some thoughts on photography and memory in utena:
Tumblr media
on the wall in nemuro memorial hall, there are pictures of real people. i'm not sure who they are, but i assume they're of people involved in making the show. either way, they're obviously not real; in the close-up shots of them, they change into pictures of the black rose duelists and other imagery from the show. i imagine it's there as a fun detail by the creators, but also to show how weird and inconsistent reality itself is in the black rose arc.
Tumblr media
as for the black rose duel images themselves, it's possible that they are literal as i've talked about in a previous post, but what i think is more likely, is that utena noticing them is a visual representation of her connecting the dots of what's really been going on in this arc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
when mikage brings up the idea of memories and eternity, we see the picture on the wall behind utena, of her at her parents funeral. and behind mikage we see one of his own defining memories.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
a pretty clear line is being drawn between memory and photographs. in fact, memories are so important to mikage that photographs are his black rose duel symbol. it's the one he keeps of mamiya and tokiko, altered to look like anthy's disguise, just like his memories are. through mikage we see both how memories of the past can keep you trapped in it, as well as the malleability of these memories. let's look at everybody else:
Tumblr media
saionji has a framed photograph of him and touga as kids on his desk. he values their friendship, or at least the memory of how it used to be. he idealizes the time touga was less cruel (or maybe just the time saionji wasn't aware of his cruelty.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
miki doesn't have any literal photographs of kozue or the sunlit garden, though his memories of them are often framed as such. he also keeps a picture of anthy amidst his sheet music. she is his idealized memory now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
juri has the locket of course, inside of which is a cutout of shiori from a picture captured in the moment that ends up defining their entire relationship. is this the version of shiori that juri idealizes? not really, but she is fixated on her resentment of shiori's percieved cruelty, just not the cruelty of taking the boy away. juri keeps this photograph closer than anybody else does with theirs, but she also keeps it hidden. this could mean she treasures her memories the most out of everyone, and is also the least open about it, although i'm not sure i believe the first part.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
nanami has the photo-album of her and touga; she idealizes her relationship with him, as well as their childhood. when she makes the connection that touga is adopted, the photos are scattered all over her bed, probably to represent her emotional state.
Tumblr media
touga doesn't keep any photographs from what we see, which makes sense with everything we know about him. unlike the rest of the council, he doesn't have any idealized memories of his childhood. but he does use akio's camera, so let's talk about that.
Tumblr media
the camera is, much like the car, a tool that only akio is shown to own (although, wakaba does mention a photography club in episode 34.) like the car, it is used to facilitate his grooming (specifically of touga and saionji when he takes those shirtless pictures with them.) and, also like the car, he offers to lend it to touga, to make him feel more like an equal part of the whole thing. unlike the car though, touga accepts the camera.
the photoshoot scene in episode 37 has a transition where the camera shutter sound effect is played over the previous scene. over the shot of utena and anthy holding hands after confiding in each other about akio. i think it's to show that he's always watching, and that they can never truly be free of him as long as they're in ohtori.
i think it also shows the idea of akio framing the narrative of the show as a whole. he plays a sort of director role in it, in that he directs the events happening, as well as how they're portrayed. it's no coincidence that he is quite literally behind the "camera" in episode 33. like the car, a symbol of akio's power and sexual abuse (which is not-coincidentally also present in all of the photoshoot scenes,) his camera (his narrative, his biased framing of events) is ever-present.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and then there's the most important photograph in the show, the frame it all ends on. the picture utena and anthy took together is, unlike every other photograph, used as a look into their future. the reason they take it in the first place is because utena realizes she has no photos of anthy, which distresses her, presumably because she worries that their friendship might not last forever, and she wants something to remember anthy by. this obviously comes with the risk of making anthy an idealized memory, like every other person put in a photograph in this show, but instead it ends up as a symbol for their love. akio may have set up the camera, but anthy (with the help of chu-chu) manipulated their positions so her and utena could hold hands. she also cuts akio out of the frame, much like she cuts him out of her life in the last episode. she doesn't want his presence to tarnish her and utena's memory anymore (although he isn't completely gone from the photograph either, as he will never truly be forgotten.)

Chrissy Ran Away - 1/3 - Fic
Chapter one: 2 a.m, we were pounding the pavement
Tumblr media
Eddie wasn’t being so friendly to her now. He’d barely spoken to her since she turned up covered in mud and leaves with a fucked up knee. He seemed to be doing his best to avoid her completely. What if Chrissy ran from Eddie after her vision? What if it pushed them apart? They share a joint and it gets much much worse. My take on 'Chrissy lives'.
Word Count: 7,644 (sorry)
Chapter: 1/3 (?)
No warnings. Will be drug use. (See at the end for notes)
Also on Archive of Our Own.
Next chapter 2/3 here.
------------------
Chapter one: 2 a.m, we were pounding the pavement
A dark wizard wanted to destroy the world. He lived in a world that Nancy Wheeler said was ‘upside down’ from their own.
And she, head cheerleader and queen bee Chrissy Cunningham, had very nearly been killed by this wizard and it was only by mere chance she was still alive now. Chance. Luck. A miracle. Whatever you wanted to call it. Thank God that when Eddie Munson stepped away in horror from her floating body - he’d unknowingly stepped back on the TV remote and a championship basketball game was playing. The excited shouting of the sports commentator, the wild cheers from the fans, the buzzer when someone scored a point. These were sounds that Chrissy recognised instantly. They brought her back.
It could have so easily played out a different way.
What if Eddie had moved back an inch the other way? What if the remote was placed neatly on the coffee table instead of discarded on the floor? What if it clicked to the news or some show Chrissy had never heard of?
What if Eddie hadn’t been there? She wasn’t supposed to have been there.
Would she be dead like that poor kid Fred? She’d felt like throwing up when Nancy told them about his brutal injuries and linked it right about to the same dark being that stalked Chrissy. Subconsciously she started tracing her fingertips around her wrists, her jaw, the hollows of her eyes (smearing her blue eyeshadow at the same time). Checking. Reassuring herself that, yes, her body was still in one piece.
She hadn’t recognised the name Fred Benson. He went to the same school as her and walked down the same hallways every day but she still hadn’t known him. The others seemed to - at least the ones closest to her age. Why was that? She thought she knew everyone at Hawkins High and the other cheerleaders were always gossiping. Robin said he worked for the school newspaper which meant they’d surely crossed paths when he attended pep rallies and games? When she became head cheerleader it was plastered all across the front page in bold black print above her smiling photograph (her mom had it framed).
How could she forget an entire person? Had Fred been simply…below…her sphere of notice? That thought made her cringe with shame.
Fred had been murdered just after her almost attack at Eddie’s trailer. Since then her entire world had been turned upside down (she tried to find humour in this phrasing, but couldn’t).
This upside down world, Nancy explained, was filled with horrors and monsters. She thought back to church meetings and camp where they preached about heaven and hell. Chrissy didn’t pay much attention to the meaning behind the pastor’s sermons as he droned on, but it sounded like this upside down world was hell. She’d said something along those lines and the look in Nancy’s eyes had been kind.
Chrissy appreciated it. Especially as Max just rolled her eyes.
Nancy had become somewhat of a lifeline. They all had. Didn’t that usually happen after a tragedy or during times of need? People who went through these scary things together often formed a bond or connection. She didn’t really know the people around her (she couldn’t tell you their birthdays or favourite music) but they were still here together. She found herself trusting them right away.
Nancy and Robin she knew from school and Robin played in the school band (they might even have study hall together). She knew Steve back when he played on the basketball team - though who didn’t? He’d been the king of the school just like Jason so desperately wanted to be now. Then there were the younger kids - Dustin (and didn’t he have the cutest smile?), a girl called Max who had long red hair (her brother had been Billy Hargrove), and Lucas who played on the team with Jason. Lucas was a surprise for sure but he’d given her a polite smile when she said hey.
There seemed to be other names thrown about too - Will, El, Mike, Jonathan - but she’d figure out how they were connected at a later time.
She knew Eddie from school too though he didn’t attend much. Everyone seemed to know Eddie and there were all sorts of bad rumours about him. Jason called him a ‘punk’ and a ‘criminal’ and told her to keep away from him as ‘nice girls like you don’t mix with his sort’. She hadn’t asked him why. Eddie had a reputation for being mean and scary and even now Steve seemed to be giving him the side eye as though any second he might start shooting up. Yet he’d been nice to her when they sat together in the woods. Funny, even. He’d actually asked her if she was okay and seemed to care when she told him she was losing her mind.
After the last day’s events maybe it wasn’t as clear cut as being a punk or being a good person?
He wasn’t being so friendly to her now.
Eddie had barely spoken to her since she turned up covered in mud and leaves with a fucked up knee. He seemed to be doing his best to avoid eye contact too. She couldn’t blame him really. It was her fault he’d been dragged into this horror story. She could respect that she wasn’t his favourite person right now.
She’d ran from Eddie’s trailer afterwards.
After waking up from her vision or trance or whatever it was, she’d ran away like the devil was chasing her (maybe he was?). She could still hear Eddie shouting after her.
"Chrissy! I need to talk to you, Chrissy! "
She’d sprinted right out of Forest Hill trailer park and along the main road leading out of Hawkins and just kept going until her legs (strong and toned from all that cheerleading practice) turned to jelly and collapsed beneath her. Like a wounded animal she’d then limped into the tree line to find somewhere safe to hide and she screamed and screamed into her hands. She only stopped when she made herself hoarse.
Steve and Robin were the ones to eventually find her limping back along the road edge (her knee throbbing). They’d been looking everywhere for her apparently. They’d told her to get in the car if she wanted answers. She’d be safer with them.
It was like one of those science fiction films her brother liked. That or yeah, a biblical apocalypse.
They’d taken her straight to Nancy’s home where they all congregated like it was some war council at The Pentagon. It turned out Max had heard the shouting from Eddie’s trailer and used her walkie talkie to alert the others when Eddie (after two cigarettes and a bottle of beer) finally managed to tell her what happened.
Chrissy’s heart ached when she heard that. She could imagine how frightened and worried he must have been.
Dustin asked her what she saw and she told them about the ticking, the spiders, and seeing her mom and dad with her eyes sewn shut. She admitted how she’d been seeing these visions for the last few weeks but this monster (a dark wizard, Dustin corrected, clearly trying to help) was new. She tried describing his grey slimy flesh and the pure look of hatred that radiated from his black eyes. She told them his voice had been smooth, though, like he was trying to charm or hypnotise her. "He said he wanted to help me. Wanted to at last end my suffering. But then I heard the game on TV and a white light just sort of appeared. I jumped through it and woke up…and then Eddie was there". She’d huddled into Robin’s side throughout (having not let go of her shirt the whole time in the car) and by the end of her speech she was breathless and crying again.
"It can’t be real," she’d hiccuped as someone handed her a glass of water. Another kind soul was pressing something cold to her swollen knee. "I’m just going crazy, right?" If only it were that simple. It turned out the rest of them (minus Eddie) had been dealing with this big bad for years. They’d actually been in this upside down world and fought some of the demons.
It was only then that Max raised her chin and admitted she’d been hearing ticking too. When she said that everyone noticeably sat up straight and stared at her. She stared right back. Lucas’ hand twitched like he wanted to hold her hand but Max ignored him and put her headphones on, indicating clearly that she didn’t want to talk about this anymore tonight.
They all slept in Wheeler’s basement that night though it was well beyond midnight already. They were worried about Chrissy (and maybe Max) having another vision so kept a radio close by just in case (the TV was upstairs and Nancy’s parents wouldn’t be pleased if they moved it at this late hour and woke them up). If anyone started having a vision then someone would search through the radio stations until they found something she recognised.
Steve suggested someone should keep watch and it was Eddie who immediately volunteered. “I’m too wired up to sleep. Seriously. Might as well take on guard duty.”
Steve seemed surprised by this and offered to take the next shift. He clapped him on the shoulder in that macho way men seemed to do. “Just shake me on the shoulder, ok?”
Nancy leant Chrissy a nightshirt to wear so she didn’t have to sleep in her muddy uniform and they both hurriedly got changed in her bedroom. Chrissy was tiny - the result of constant practice and careful calorie counting thanks to her mom - but she had longer legs than Nancy and the shirt barely graced her mid-thigh. She was very conscious of this as she padded back down to the basement though really it wasn’t any different than her cheerleading skirt. She was going to be sharing one of the low couches with Robin and she noticed Steve giving Robin a funny thumbs up which made the other girl blush for some reason. Chrissy gave Robin a friendly smile though as she stretched out under the thin blanket beside her, making sure that her knee was propped up. Luckily the blanket was big enough to cover them both and afford Chrissy some modesty.
“Sleep tight, kids,” Steve said, turning out the lamp from where he was wedged in between Dustin and Lucas on the floor. “No dramas please. No snoring Robin, no flying Chrissy, no drooling in your sleep Henderson. If I don’t get my beauty sleep I’m going to look like Munson.”
“Fuck off Harrington. Wait until tomorrow morning when there’s zero hairspray and you’ve got a wicked case of bed hair.”
“Oh he’s definitely got a can in his car.”
“Shut it Henderson.”
Chrissy could feel Robin sniggering.
Though she was earth-shatteringly tired, it took a little while to fall asleep someplace new. Every so often she glanced over to where Eddie was slouching on a fold-out chair, the radio sat by his feet in case he needed to grab it in a hurry. She couldn’t make out much in the dark but he seemed to be deep in thought. No shit.
She wondered again why he was refusing to meet her eyes. Did he resent her? Was he afraid of her? Did he look at her and see cruelly broken limbs, a severe dislocated jaw, bloodless vacant eyes?
She nestled further down on the couch. Sleepily she thought that this movement might have drawn Eddie’s gaze but her tired eyes were already closing before she could check.
She woke early the next morning. They all did. Nancy explained they couldn’t stay there another night as her parents would ask too many questions but they had some time to have a think while they had breakfast and washed up. While the night had gone by peacefully and with no further visions it didn’t mean they were safe by a long shot.
Chrissy liked Nancy’s parents though.
Her mom made her a fruit bowl for breakfast when she saw her not touching the fried eggs and bacon. She’d heard of Chrissy Cunningham from the other mothers and knew she was a superstar cheerleader, no doubt buried beneath cheer scholarships for prestigious colleges. “Your parents must be so proud”, she said kindly. Her dad was grumpy at first when he saw all of them emerge from the basement but he soon softened up and let Chrissy take a peek at his newspaper which had the words ‘Hawkins high bring home the trophy’ on the cover.
After that they washed up quickly and returned to the basement to brainstorm.
They decided right away that they could not just ignore everything and hope it would go away (Eddie’s idea - though Robin seemed keen on it too). Neither did they think it was a good idea for any of them to be alone. Though Chrissy and Max were the only ones who’d had visions so far, this monster could target any of them next. Like Fred.
Dustin was set on finding this girl El.
“She’s lost her powers though,” Robin pointed out.
“She’ll still know what to do,” Dustin insisted. “She’s our Superman. Our Optimus Prime. Our Jean Grey.”
“Compelling argument,” Steve replied. “But she’s not in Hawkins, dummy. You really want us to load up the cars and drive all the way out there?”
“...Uh. Dude, we could just phone her.”
“Oh. Yeah, not a bad shout.”
Nancy said about doing some research about the Creel family. Apparently a man called Victor Creel might know something. He was in a mental hospital though so she’d have to figure out how to get there and be allowed to question him.
“Wait - sorry - I know that name,” Chrissy said hesitantly. “Creel…I think there’s a house on my estate connected to it somehow. The manager at my parent’s club talks about it. He made it sound like an old ghost story.”
“The Lodge?” Steve asked and Chrissy nodded. She remembered Steve’s parents - the Harringtons - had memberships at the snooty golf club too. “I can get in there. Might be able to do some detective work Scooby-Do style.”
“I can help. The manager Mr Lawrence has…well…he’s always liked me. He called me…ugh… Sugarpie the last time.” She felt herself cringe as she said it.
Max pretended to throw up, muttering rich people.
“Let’s see if we can avoid that, Chrissy. I’d rather not dangle you as bait unless it’s a last resort honestly and…yeah, I don’t want to see that. It’s a good idea though trying the club and asking some questions. Saves you having to speak to some maniac, Nance.”
Nancy nodded and clapped her hands together. “Right. Good brainstorming! So we phone in El for the rescue, I do some background research on the Creel family, and Steve you go and flirt with some old creep. We still need to figure out where to go and wait for El though. Someplace safe.”
“My buddy Rick’s in jail,” Eddie piped up. He’d been very quiet through the conversation and she saw he was fiddling with the rings he always wore. “Reefer Rick. He’s got a place out by Lover’s Lake we can use. It’s secluded, quiet. I’ve stayed there a few times. He’s a good guy. He won’t mind.”
“Awesome. Let’s stay at Reefer Rick’s,” Steve said, a little sarcastically. “This will be fine. Get ready everyone and let’s get packed up. We need to pick up supplies too.”
That seemed to settle it. Steve and Nancy were clearly the leaders here and if they were in agreement then that was the plan. Chrissy was fine to go along with it. It wasn’t really a change for her, really. She was used to being told what to do and having things decided for her. It sounded like they knew what they were doing anyway.
She didn’t even contemplate what it was she was agreeing to really. In her mind she wasn’t really putting herself at risk as she was already at risk. She’d escaped this monster once but there was no telling if he’d come back to finish the job or move on to stalk someone new like Max. If going with them maybe helped - maybe helped end this dark wizard and nightmare - then she would follow them gladly. She didn’t want another Fred.
And she owed Eddie in a weird sort of way, even though he wouldn’t look at her or seemingly want her around. He’d saved her life without even meaning to. If he stayed then she owed it to try and help him. What if he was the one stalked next?
Her fingers fluttered over the bones of her wrists. It was okay.
She would have to come up with an excuse for her parents though. They wouldn’t have noticed her absence last night - presuming maybe she was with Jason even though she’d never stayed at Jason’s - but they would soon.
By ‘supplies’ Steve meant food and ammo.
To her surprise (and really this wasn’t unfounded) Nancy revealed she kept three guns hidden in her bedroom. She also wanted to go to a place called War Zone to pick up some more but that could wait until after they’d spoken to El. Which is what she did, along with Dustin.
Robin, Max, and Lucas were all sent to the store for food supplies and ‘a shit load of blankets and pillows and stuff’ as they were preparing to hunker down at Rick’s until the cavalry arrived. At the last minute Eddie offered to drive them in his van. He needed to do something, he said, or he would go crazy.
Chrissy wondered if this was a dig at her? Even unintentionally. Eddie didn’t seem the type to be outright mean - "you know, you’re not what I thought you’d be". "Like, mean and scary?" - but she felt it all the same.
Nobody asked anything of Chrissy. They hurried around her. They didn’t ignore her - everyone kept asking if she was okay and if she needed anything - but they clearly thought she was unable or unwilling to help.
Do you need anything Chrissy? Are you sure? You can have a rest on my bed, if you want? Let me know if you need a drink or snack or anything.
They weren’t to know her dad was a member of the NRA. He’d taught Chrissy how to fire a gun when she turned sixteen for self defence. She was a pretty good shot too.
So Chrissy took this time to have a shower (though Nancy was firm to keep the door slightly ajar so she could help if needed). She washed all the fear from yesterday away and changed back into her cheer uniform as it was all she had. She brushed her hair (borrowing Nancy’s hairbrush) and even re-painted her nails. Nancy had the exact same shade of bubblegum pink she liked. She plaited her hair back so it hung down over one shoulder neatly.
She asked Steve if she could borrow his car so she could grab some things from her home. The others had had time to grab their bags and pack but she’d gone straight from school, to Eddie’s, and finally here. He’d shaken his head though. It wasn’t a wise idea to be alone right now, he pointed out. Could she wait until the others were back and then he’d happily drive her? She watched as he lined up all the weapons and supplies and carefully noted everything down in a book. She felt she could only agree.
Nancy’s little sister Holly spotted her then and asked if she could see her pom’s. She wanted Chrissy to teach her all the moves. Chrissy gladly spent an hour with her outside in the garden (again with the door left ajar) watching her do little handstands and showed her how to cartwheel properly without causing injury. It was kind of cute and it made her forget for a second about last night. They were still outside when the others came back from the store and started loading up the cars (and Eddie’s van). Again, Chrissie wasn’t asked to help. When it was time to leave though (Dustin called her in) Holly followed Chrissy outside and gave her the cutest little wave. “Bye Chrissy! Nancy please bring Chrissy back, okay? She still needs to go through my stances.”
Chrissy laughed and she gave the little girl a smile, promising she would.
Steve, true to his word, picked up his keys and gestured for her to follow him to his BMW. He was trying to balance three bags in his arms and she quickly hurried over to help. “Just swinging by Chrissy’s. She needs to grab some stuff,” he called. She slid into the front seat. “We’ll meet you there.”
The others nodded. She turned around to put the bag on the backseat, and as she did she noticed Eddie lingering for a moment by his van. Did she imagine it or did Eddie throw them both a funny look? He seemed annoyed about something.
That’s fair, she thought. He’s stuck with just the kids now. Robin’s riding with Nancy. He’s probably tired after last night too. She’d offer to do a night shift tonight if let her.
Swinging by Chrissy’s actually wasn’t as bad as she thought it would be because thankfully her parents weren’t home. She asked Steve to wait in the car while she ran in and grabbed some stuff at random - clothes, pyjamas, towel, underwear, hairbrush, some lipgloss. She grabbed an old magazine too (for the night shift). She also took all the cash she kept in her jewellery box (her savings really - from allowances, birthdays…). She scooped some of the gold jewellery out too. She could always pawn them if needed. She’d need someone to show her how to do it though. Without much hesitation, she also went into her father’s office and took some cash from there too, though not enough for him to notice. She couldn’t contribute much to the group but she was from a wealthy family, whereas most of them clearly weren’t. She had money and from her privileged experience she knew it made the world go round.
She also took the handgun her father bought her for her seventeenth birthday. It had been carefully locked away all this time but now she wrapped it in one of her towels and shoved it at the bottom of her bag. Maybe she could pawn this too. Or use it.
Steve smiled when she hurried back. “I left a note saying I was staying with Amanda from the team. There’s a lot of parties and things going on right now as it’s spring break. It’s a good lie, I think. She’s on vacation with her family so they won’t see her around.”
“Good thinking.”
“I don’t want her to get in trouble though,” she said. “I hope…maybe… this will all be over before she’s back?”
“Yeah…maybe Chrissy.”
He didn’t sound so sure.
They made easy conversation on their way to Reefer Rick’s (Eddie had given Steve directions beforehand). They had similar interests and were from the same background so it made sense.
Reefer Rick’s was actually quite a large place and it was positioned perfectly right by the lake’s edge. Though the building itself looked a bit dingy and dark (she wondered how long Rick had been in jail for) it also looked sturdy. Which was exactly what they wanted. It was also very secluded and Steve mumbled about hiding the cars away from the road once they’d settled in. Especially Eddie’s van as it definitely stood out.
The others were huddled by the door and Robin seemed to be dancing from one foot to the other. “Hurry Eddie, I need to pee.”
Eddie was kneeling down by the door and trying to pick the lock. It didn’t shock her that he knew how to do that. He muttered that he’d lost the key he usually used when picking up more weed...and then groaned. “Damn it. I’ve busted it.”
“Is there a back door?” Robin asked, glancing around. She went to check but that was locked up too. Probably to keep intruders like them away.
She picked up a rock and looked at the windows. “We could use this as a key?”
Eddie raised an eyebrow though Chrissy could see he was trying not to laugh. He seemed to like Robin. So did Chrissy for that matter. “I’d rather not, you know, destroy the place. He’s a decent guy and… though he doesn’t know it due to being wrongly caged by the American justice system… he’s doing us a favour by letting us stay here.”
“He’s in prison,” Nancy pointed out, her arms bundled with bags. “He must have done something wrong.”
“Mere drug charges only, I assure you. Police loathe that more than…you know, actual criminals who hurt people. Trust me, he’s a good guy. I’ve known him a long time. So no window breaking.”
“How do we get in then? I really don’t want to pee in the bush. There could be squirrels or coyotes or bears in there.”
“Robin, there’s no bears around here…”
While they debated the natural wildlife around them, Chrissy looked up and noticed a boarded up window upstairs. One of the boards looked loose and there was a tiny crack she could probably squeeze through if she was careful. Maybe she could finally do something to help?
“I’ve got an idea?” she spoke up hesitantly, eyeing them as though she expected them to talk over her but it didn’t come. They were listening. “See that window? I can pull myself up through that gap and unlock the door from inside? I’ll need a boost though.”
“Like a ninja?” Dustin asked. “Man, I’ve got to see this.”
Chrissy began walking over to stand beneath it and plan her route.
“No way, I’ll do it,” Eddie offered, quickly stepping in front of her. He was a great deal taller than her. “I’ve sneaked inside my share of shitty bars and music venues before.”
“I can do it. There’s no way you’ll fit through there,” she added. Eddie looked her way (his eyes just skimming the top of her head) and she was reminded that this was the closest they’d been physically since…well, last night when she woke up on the floor of his trailer. He looked like he was thinking the same thing.
“You might fall, Chriss. It’s pretty high…” Nancy pointed out. Chriss? That sounded nice. “Or break your neck.”
Fred. Fred lying on the tarmac road with his body crudely twisted like a spring. His jaw broken and slack. Chrissy’s hands fluttered up to her own jaw again and saw out of her peripheral vision Eddie visibly flinching away from her. Honestly…she couldn’t even begin to unpick the series of harsh emotions that flickered across his face.
She felt a little dizzy herself.
None of the others seemed to have noticed her reaction though. Or Eddie’s.
She tried to remind herself about what the counsellor Ms Kelley said about her breathing. “Look, I’m a flyer which means I’ve been tossed around plenty and I know how to land without hurting myself. I’ve trained hard and got a good amount of muscle in these legs. This way we don’t have to damage the house and Eddie’s right. It’s this…Rick’s home...and even though he’s in prison it’s not fair to mess up his home. I know I can do it. Steve, give me a boost?”
She picked Steve instinctively, knowing that after her he was probably the most in shape and he’d mentioned about subbing for the cheerleading team in the car. Without a word, Steve crouched down before her and she placed her sneaker in the cradle of his hands. She quickly loosened up her arms.
“You sure? You busted your knee last night,” Steve said quietly. He was offering her an out.
But her knee would hold. She knew her body and what it could take before it snapped. “On three.”
“Go go Power-Cheerleader!”
On three, Steve boosted her up as high as he could and the momentum helped her fly up into the air. It was just like cheer practice really and they were going through the standard drills. She quickly caught hold of the window pane and used her strong arms to hoist herself up. Bracing herself, she reached out and wiggled the loose board out of place fully so she could make a sizable gap. She then used her core muscles to swing a leg up and with a flick of her strawberry-blonde plait, she was inside. She heard someone whistle.
She very carefully climbed down into what looked like a bedroom and hurried downstairs, careful to not disturb anything. After a few seconds of pulling and pushing, she managed to twist round the stiff lock on the front door. The door swung back and there they all stood.
“Full of surprises, Cunningham,” Eddie muttered as he came through. She thought it might have been a compliment.
“With Nancy’s gun collection, Eddie’s lockpicking skills, and Chrissy climbing through windows, we’re well on our way to make a baddass crime gang,” Lucas said. “We should hit a bank next. Or a museum. Steal some fancy precious jewel and make some serious cash. Steve can drive the getaway car.”
Max made an impatient noise. “With our luck it would be cursed and haunted by ghosts or some shit. No thanks. Will you just get inside? My arms are aching.”
They dumped their bags and set about exploring Rick's home. The front door opened into a decent size lounge with a kitchen tucked away at the back and upstairs Robin shouted there were two double bedrooms and an office (though what did a drug dealer need an office for?). There was also a bathroom which had - Chrissy almost sighed at the sight though it was so so impractical - a bathtub and shower unit. They quickly brought in more bags and pillows and blankets from the cars and Robin and Dustin put away the food and water bottles (“Did you buy beer, Eddie?” Robin asked, “Huh. But no milk. Awesome”). Steve and Eddie went outside to hide the cars and when they came back in Eddie made sure to lock up the front door and bolt it shut.
That wasn’t the end of it though. Nancy, Steve and Robin set to barricading the rest of it, though Steve said they’d need to work on ‘the defences’ more tomorrow if needed. They lugged bookcases, counters, drawer units in front of the windows and stashed the weapons they’d brought upstairs in one of the bedrooms. Steve and Eddie shoved a wardrobe in front of the window Chrissy crawled through. She watched it all, leaning against the couch, and rubbing her arms. It felt like gearing up for war. Like they were in the trenches.
It was beginning to get chilly but they weren’t allowed to build a fire up in the fireplace. Nancy said it might alert the wrong kind of attention. Rick wasn’t supposed to be home so what would people think if they saw the smoke? That meant no big lights either  though they could use the torches and lamps.
They were hunkered down now.
And then Nancy told them El was on her way. Along with her brother Mike and Jonathon (Chrissy recalled a quiet nervous guy with floppy hair). They’d be there as soon as they could but it might be another few days.
That seemed to definitely lighten the mood.
Chrissy helped Nancy heat up some food for dinner using Rick’s ancient stove. Though neither had much practice in the cooking department, they managed to rustle up a pretty basic casserole and Chrissy even prepared a salad (reminding Dustin and Max who rolled their eyes that they needed to eat healthy food if they wanted to be like Rambo and fight monsters). Nancy even set the dining table.
Chrissy was about to carry the heavy casserole through when hands reached out and took the ceramic dish away from her. Surprised, she managed a quick “Oh…thanks” to Eddie’s back as he hastily moved away and placed it in the middle of the table where everyone was starting to sit. Oddly Eddie then pulled out a chair closest to the kitchen but instead of sitting in it himself he left it out and plonked himself down next to Dustin and Max on the other side.
Huh.
They ate in silence but it was a good kind of silence where people were happy to just eat and relax. Eddie pulled out a six-pack from one of the shopping bags and offered them around to the ‘adults’. Steve took one and so did Nancy surprisingly. Chrissy, thinking about the crazy amount of calories in a beer, politely declined. She’d only plated herself up some of the salad and a tiny tiny sliver of casserole.
It was dark by the time they settled in the lounge and Dustin and Lucas suggested working on their D&D characters to pass some time. Max tried turning the TV on but it looked like the aerial needed poking (“I’ll do it tomorrow,” Dustin said). So Max, Chrissy, Robin, Nancy and Steve settled down on the couches and pillows and blankets to watch. Eddie seemed happy to play along with Dustin and Lucas if it meant them keeping their minds off the possible end of the world.
Chrissy had no idea about the game or what any of it meant, but was happy to just curl up on the couch by Nancy and listen. They spoke about warriors, clerics, orcs… it was strangely interesting. She found herself being sucked in a little and she peeked over Dustin’s shoulder (he was sitting by her feet) at what he called his character sheet. His character was an artificer. She wasn’t the type of person to look down on anything that made other people happy, even if she didn’t understand it. She knew some of her friends did though. Jason did.
She also noticed that Eddie was really good at being…what did he call it?...a D-M? He seemed to know all about the game and made it sound funny and interesting. It was cute. It made the freshmen smile anyway. She noticed that his foot was twitching though and he kept nervously playing with the ends of his curly hair. The only tells that indicated beneath his cheerful silly mask he was not altogether at ease. She wondered if he regretted buying only a six-pack.
She suddenly felt very protective over the people in front of her. Once back at school (they would go back, wouldn’t they?) she would be sure to stick up for…the Hellfire Club?...if needed.
She stood up to get some water and made sure to clap Dustin on the shoulder as she rose. Strangely, it was actually quite cosy in the house now. Despite the horrors and darkness outside that locked door, it felt like a little haven inside. It reminded her of the family camping trips they used to take when she was a kid. They’d been happy then. Her parents had loved each other. They’d loved her.
It got late and plans were made for the next day though everyone was pretty tired. Eddie and Steve looked beat though they still offered to keep watch tonight out of some macho sense of pride which Nancy quickly called them out on. Robin called the first wake shift and Nancy the next. Chrissy also offered, remembering her thoughts from earlier, but her offer was waved away (not unkindly - just matter of fact). They told her she needed to rest after yesterday evening.
Are you okay Chrissy? Do you need anything Chrissy? Let us know, okay?
Steve wanted them all to sleep in the lounge again together. He pointed out that if someone (and he glanced at Chrissy and Max) started seeing visions then someone needed to be alert. “It’s silent, right? You didn’t hear any shouting or…anything creepy?” he asked Eddie.
Chrissy once again traced her wrists. Her eyes. She hoped they just thought she was sleepy.
“Yeah, totally silent. I only saw what was happening when I saw Chrissy. She didn’t make a peep. The lights flickered weird though, even Max saw them from her trailer.”
“Okay then, so whoever is awake can carry the torch and if it flickers we’ll know something is up and check. I had a good sleep last night so I don’t mind,” Nancy pointed out. “Steve, we need proper sleep in beds. We need to stay ourselves. It’s important we’re rested and not run down. It sounds like Vecna is targeting people who are…well, not at their best.”
Chrissy looked at Nancy curiously and by the way she grimaced and shut her eyes she could see Nancy had said something she meant to keep hush hush. She swore and then looked at Chrissy and Max apologetically. Behind her she noticed Steve shuffling too which meant he already knew what she was going to say.
“We were trying to think if there were any similarities between the students having visions…there was literally nothing at first. Max, Chriss, Fred…you don’t have any friends in common or hang around the same places. We thought it was a dead end but then I remembered Max you mentioning seeing Chrissy come out of Ms Kelley’s room. We managed to look up Ms Kelley’s schedule on the computer and saw you were all seeing her. Then we started thinking…maybe that’s the similarity? That you all needed to talk to someone…and I promise we didn’t look any further though,” she quickly added. “We turned off the computer before we could see any notes or anything.”
Chrissy wasn’t sure what to feel. She didn’t feel angry though she could see Max’s cheeks were flushed red. It made sense that they’d been trying to work out this dark wizard’s patterns (was it Vecna now? Is that what she should start saying?). And it sounded like a likely theory. It was the only thing they had in common, after all.
She was embarrassed though. When she started counselling (after being referred to it by her cheer coach) her parents were mortified. They never spoke about it. Even Jason seemed to ignore it and told people she was getting extra tuition instead “My babe wants those A’s,” he’d said.
Really though. She had bigger things to worry about and what was done was done.
Chrissy nodded at Nancy to show she was okay. She didn’t look around at the others though.
Nancy hurriedly suggested she, Max, and Chrissy share one of the bedrooms upstairs. That meant Steve and Eddie could share the other and Dustin and Lucas could sleep in the lounge. Eddie and Steve seemed uncomfortable about this at first but then agreed. Eddie playfully asked Steve who was going to be the big spoon and Steve told him to get lost.
She changed into her own nightshirt tonight and used the bathroom quickly to brush her teeth and wash. Nancy was already crawling into the double bed with Max stretching out beside her. They’d be sleeping top to tail. It was a stretch but it would be far more comfortable than on one of the couches downstairs and Nancy was right that they needed to sleep on beds if they could. Chrissy let herself lay down too and listened to the quiet sound of Max’s breathing beside her. She tried snuggling back against the pillows (they smelled reassuringly clean) but couldn’t get to sleep.
She’d never been a big or little spoon before. She wondered if that might help but when she pictured Jason’s arms around her (strong and sturdy) she only saw a heavy weight. Like one of those funny white jackets people in mental institutes wore.
She kept thinking about the dark wizard. Last night the come down of adrenaline had helped her fall asleep but tonight she struggled not to think about the slimy creepy face. The dead black eyes.
Vecna.
Giving him a name seemed to make him more real for some reason. It held power.
Tick. Tick. Tick.
Chrissy tried to shut the noise up by twisting her head further into the pillow. She knew this wasn’t a vision - she could feel the warmth of Max’s body and heard Nancy sigh in her sleep - but she was suddenly terrified to fall asleep.
"Let me put an end to your suffering, Chrissy…"
His voice had been like velvet at first. Almost purring. But he was lying. He wanted to hurt her. Kill her.
She was still awake when Robin came up to wake Nancy for the next watch shift. Chrissy sat up instead.
“Let me do it. I can’t sleep anyway,” she whispered. Robin hesitated for only a second, her face drawn with tiredness, and then nodded. As soon as Chrissy stood up Robin slumped down in her place.
There was a white blanket on the chair by the window and she pulled it on over her nightshirt before grabbing her magazine and quietly padding downstairs. The sound of snoring and deep breathing told her that the freshmen were asleep. She smiled - good. Even though she was actually the same height as Max and Dustin it felt right that they should have a good night's sleep. It was scary for all of them but she, Nancy, Steve, Robin and Eddie had to be the grown ups here. The least they could do was look after them a bit. Or try to. She knew the others felt the same way too, especially Steve and Eddie.
Robin had set up camp by the door so she could get a clear view of the lounge and Chrissy settled in the armchair there. She used the light from the torch to look at the magazine idly. It helped to keep her thoughts away from ticking.
The house was very quiet. Apart from the snores.
It felt like a hush.
After an hour - maybe? She didn’t have her watch - she thought she heard something move upstairs. She felt herself tense. She relaxed when she recognised it as footsteps. She kept very still as she heard someone walk down the stairs, trying their hardest to be quiet. She couldn’t make them out at first because the stairs faced the other way, but when they reached the bottom she saw a tall figure that could only be Eddie. He seemed to be looking in his jacket pocket (left hung over one of the dining chairs) for something. He was still wearing his ripped jeans and some band shirt though she couldn’t make out the name. She wondered before she could stop herself if he or Steve had got undressed to sleep...did they even own pyjamas? She blushed at that. It really wasn’t her business.
She hadn’t moved an inch, but Eddie’s gaze eventually found her.
She raised a hand and gave him a very awkward little wave to show she wasn’t sleeping on the job.
In turn he held up something (a lighter?) and gestured to the backdoor. He was sneaking out to smoke. He unlocked the door quietly before stepping outside and closing it behind him.
She watched him go.
Getting to know the rag-tag bunch of misfits around her had been nice. She genuinely liked Nancy and Robin (though sometimes she didn’t really get Robin’s humour). She liked Steve. Dustin and Lucas were sweet, and she liked Max’s attitude. One of Chrissy’s talents was getting to know someone and picking out the good. She could see traces of kindness, trust, heroism in each one. It didn’t mean they were all friends yet - it had only been a day really - but she would already feel saddened by their absence. She hadn’t felt that way about any of her friends from the cheer squad. She wasn’t sure she even felt that way about her boyfriend.
They seemed to like her too, despite their initial wariness of her being a cheerleader and popular. Even if they sometimes treated her like she was made from glass. Which, considering what happened last night, wasn’t totally unwarranted.
Yet Eddie seemed to be keeping his distance. He wasn’t being mean or rude and as far as she could make out none of the others had noticed anything off. He was polite when he spoke to her, using a measured even tone. But he didn’t meet her eyes. He didn’t seek her out to talk to. He kept his metaphoric shield up.
He was acting so differently to the man she’d met in the woods for a drug deal. Where had that funny and nice guy gone? He’d made her cheeks hurt from laughter.
He’s gone, she answered. Banished by this dark wizard.
And she would be lying if she said it didn’t make her a little sad.
God, what was her problem with always wanting to be liked?
She took a deep breath and got to her feet, holding the magazine to her chest like it was her own shield (flimsy/cheap). She checked the kids were still asleep and then carefully traced his footsteps outside. She shut the door behind her with a gentle click.
Eddie looked round. She could smell the earthy burning scent of weed.
She bit her lip, steeling herself, and then murmured softly. “Can I have a hit?’
Now that made him meet her eyes.
Next chapter here
-------------------------
A/N: So yeah, my version of ‘Chrissy lives’. Apologies for the length but I wrote this in a total spiral of Chrissy/Eddie fever. There’s going to be about three chapters I think and I’ve already typed out the skeletons (to be padded out when inspiration hits). Prepare for a bit of angst with this one.
A few points:
Love not drugs.
Chapter title from The Beths
Eddie and Chrissy have been through a seriously traumatic moment. They’re going to be processing this throughout these chapters. Chrissy’s response was to run away and sob and let the others take over. Eddie’s response is to stay silent,  be broody and keep it all tucked up. Both are totally valid responses to trauma tbh. But I just wanted to explain why Eddie is avoiding Chrissy right now.
Chrissy is not a proactive or forceful person (as far as I can tell from the tiny glimpse we got of her in the show. Hell, maybe she’s a firecat). In this fic she’s very used to people making the decisions for her. Was her climbing through the window a stretch? Could there have been an easier way? Probably but hey ho. I have this image of Chrissy being the prototype for Buffy not Barbie. Lipgloss? Check? Cute skirt? Check. Abs of steel? Oh yes. No vamps though.
I wasn’t around in the 80’s but have some Transformers and Power Rangers references.
The timeline is way off. Sue me. I’m bending it to suit my needs.
The plural of pom pom’s is pom’s apparently. Who knew.
I figure Chrissy would get along well with Nancy and Steve and have a lot in common with them. I can also see her getting on with Jonathon for some reason as he’s quiet and calm. Obviously she gets along best with Eddie though.
Have some American-isms. Take the ‘mom’ and words like ‘gas’ and ‘sneakers’. As Harry Potter would say - take the lot.
Thanks for reading :)
Ignore the story banner shitness. I have zero skills.

The Rolling Stones Cover exposed Harry Styles for who he really is. We all as a collective have been sold an image that I don't think is really Harry Styles. You cant stand on stage and preach one thing and walk off when the curtains are closed and go against everything you are telling fans to be.
My point:
2022: "When I’m working, I work really hard, and I think I’m really professional.
Sleeping with your boss is not professional or your boss sleeping with an employee isn't professional it causes a lot of uncomfortably within the work place, and not everyone is treated equally.
2022: Styles is not the most online person — he uses Instagram to look at plants and architecture posts, has never had the TikTok app, and calls Twitter "a shit storm of people trying to be awful to people".
The shit storm Harry is referencing to is his own doing, Harry could have squashed rumors involving old band members and the bullying that Olivia has been receiving, politely without tapping into his private life, but he hasn't and wont because he is playing both sides.
2022: "[about toxic corners of the internet and their treatment of people closest to him] That obviously doesn’t make me feel good.
Harry not once has came to the defense of any of his band members he's been romantically attached too nor his ex's such as Kendall, Taylor, Camille or Olivia the only person I have found that Harry has ever publicly defended was Caroline Flack (via twitter) So yeah I would say you do feel pretty shitty and you should.
2022: Sometimes people say, ‘You’ve only publicly been with women,’ and I don’t think I’ve publicly been with anyone. If someone takes a picture of you with someone, it doesn’t mean you’re choosing to have a public relationship or something."
Harry's relationship hasn't been private in a year in half how bold of him to even make the statement. Olivia has excessively worn Harry's merch and photographed in LA, NY, London and Italy. Olivia has made herself seen at 90% of Harry's shows, Olivia has linked herself to Harry thru social media post, by liking or sharing pictures and promos. Every time Harry or Olivia have merch drops, or promo for something there is a walk in the busiest parts of the town to be seen. Plus Harry allowed her to speak in his personal interview with Rolling Stone. There is absolutely nothing private about this relationship.
2022: "[about toxic corners of the internet and their treatment of people closest to him] That obviously doesn’t make me feel good. Other people blur the lines for you. Can you imagine going on a second date with someone and being like, ‘OK, there’s this corner of the thing, and they’re going to say this, and it’s going to be really crazy, and they’re going to be really mean, and it’s not real…. But anyway, what do you want to eat? It’s obviously a difficult feeling to feel like being close to me means you’re at the ransom of a corner of Twitter or something. I just wanted to sing. I didn’t want to get into it if I was going to hurt people like that."
1. If you don't want people to comment or hold the people you associate with accountable for there toxic behavior then keep your private life PRIVATE, there are tons of celebrities that have stayed private for years, it can be done if you chose to do so, Harry has not nor has Olivia kept any part of there relationship private, so much that now a very public custody battle is in plain view for everyone to speculate on.
2. If Harry doesn't want fans calling out the toxic people he surround's himself with then word of advice “ STOP SURROUNDING YOURSELF WITH SHITTY PEOPLE, People who have horrible connections within the industry linked to pedophiles, rapist, domestic abusers, or who make questionable comments on there own personal social media accounts and personal interviews.
In closing I don't agree with the on-line bullying, or body shaming someone's appearance, but calling someone out with facts about there toxic behavior is necessary..
Harry's fans are not 13-16 years old anymore they are adults who grew up with him, who pay attention, and see the red flags, Harry is insulting there intelligence by feeding these magazines bullshit and the fans see right through it. The back lash Harry is getting he rightfully deserves. Don't gaslight your fans, don't treat them like cash cows, and don't feed them bullshit in interviews. Fans need to stop treating him like a 16 year old boy. Fans need to stop defending bad behavior.
one last thing, stop with the conspiracy theories. Unless you work in the industry and understand how contracts work stop with the excuses of him being forced, Harry is very much in control of his career who he associates with and the career moves he makes is 100% all him.

Earth's oldest minerals date onset of plate tectonics to 3.6 billion years ago Scientists led by Michael Ackerson, a research geologist at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History, provide new evidence that modern plate tectonics, a defining feature of Earth and its unique ability to support life, emerged roughly 3.6 billion years ago. Earth is the only planet known to host complex life and that ability is partly predicated on another feature that makes the planet unique: plate tectonics. No other planetary bodies known to science have Earth's dynamic crust, which is split into continental plates that move, fracture and collide with each other over eons. Plate tectonics afford a connection between the chemical reactor of Earth's interior and its surface that has engineered the habitable planet people enjoy today, from the oxygen in the atmosphere to the concentrations of climate-regulating carbon dioxide. But when and how plate tectonics got started has remained mysterious, buried beneath billions of years of geologic time. The study, published May 14 in the journal Geochemical Perspectives Letters, uses zircons, the oldest minerals ever found on Earth, to peer back into the planet's ancient past. The oldest of the zircons in the study, which came from the Jack Hills of Western Australia, were around 4.3 billion years old--which means these nearly indestructible minerals formed when the Earth itself was in its infancy, only roughly 200 million years old. Along with other ancient zircons collected from the Jack Hills spanning Earth's earliest history up to 3 billion years ago, these minerals provide the closest thing researchers have to a continuous chemical record of the nascent world. "We are reconstructing how the Earth changed from a molten ball of rock and metal to what we have today," Ackerson said. "None of the other planets have continents or liquid oceans or life. In a way, we are trying to answer the question of why Earth is unique, and we can answer that to an extent with these zircons." To look billions of years into Earth's past, Ackerson and the research team collected 15 grapefruit-sized rocks from the Jack Hills and reduced them into their smallest constituent parts--minerals--by grinding them into sand with a machine called a chipmunk. Fortunately, zircons are very dense, which makes them relatively easy to separate from the rest of the sand using a technique similar to gold panning. The team tested more than 3,500 zircons, each just a couple of human hairs wide, by blasting them with a laser and then measuring their chemical composition with a mass spectrometer. These tests revealed the age and underlying chemistry of each zircon. Of the thousands tested, about 200 were fit for study due to the ravages of the billions of years these minerals endured since their creation. "Unlocking the secrets held within these minerals is no easy task," Ackerson said. "We analyzed thousands of these crystals to come up with a handful of useful data points, but each sample has the potential to tell us something completely new and reshape how we understand the origins of our planet." A zircon's age can be determined with a high degree of precision because each one contains uranium. Uranium's famously radioactive nature and well-quantified rate of decay allow scientists to reverse engineer how long the mineral has existed. The aluminum content of each zircon was also of interest to the research team. Tests on modern zircons show that high-aluminum zircons can only be produced in a limited number of ways, which allows researchers to use the presence of aluminum to infer what may have been going on, geologically speaking, at the time the zircon formed. After analyzing the results of the hundreds of useful zircons from among the thousands tested, Ackerson and his co-authors deciphered a marked increase in aluminum concentrations roughly 3.6 billion years ago. "This compositional shift likely marks the onset of modern-style plate tectonics and potentially could signal the emergence of life on Earth," Ackerson said. "But we will need to do a lot more research to determine this geologic shift's connections to the origins of life." The line of inference that links high-aluminum zircons to the onset of a dynamic crust with plate tectonics goes like this: one of the few ways for high-aluminum zircons to form is by melting rocks deeper beneath Earth's surface. "It's really hard to get aluminum into zircons because of their chemical bonds," Ackerson said. "You need to have pretty extreme geologic conditions." Ackerson reasons that this sign that rocks were being melted deeper beneath Earth's surface meant the planet's crust was getting thicker and beginning to cool, and that this thickening of Earth's crust was a sign that the transition to modern plate tectonics was underway. Prior research on the 4 billion-year-old Acasta Gneiss in northern Canada also suggests that Earth's crust was thickening and causing rock to melt deeper within the planet. "The results from the Acasta Gneiss give us more confidence in our interpretation of the Jack Hills zircons," Ackerson said. "Today these locations are separated by thousands of miles, but they're telling us a pretty consistent story, which is that around 3.6 billion years ago something globally significant was happening." This work is part of the museum's new initiative called Our Unique Planet, a public-private partnership, which supports research into some of the most enduring and significant questions about what makes Earth special. Other research will investigate the source of Earth's liquid oceans and how minerals may have helped spark life. Ackerson said he hopes to follow up these results by searching the ancient Jack Hills zircons for traces of life and by looking at other supremely old rock formations to see if they too show signs of Earth's crust thickening around 3.6 billion years ago. Wedding Night
The date was August 21st. The time was around 7:30 pm. The sunset was slowing peaking out from the mountains that surrounded the banquet hall me and my loved ones were currently in. And my dress was....
Well, my dress was currently being zipped up by my maid of honor
Tonight was my wedding night with the love of my life, Nagito Komaeda. We've been together for about six years and engaged for a near two years. We've graduated college just earlier in the spring and the two of us will finally be joining in holy matrimony at the aisle. I felt the zipper being tugged all the way to my shoulder blades by my maid of honor and best friend, Sonia Nevermind. I turned back, smiling at the soft fabric hugging my skin
"You think he'll like it, Sonia?" I asked the blond, my nervous interior breaking out on my face. She gave me a reassuring smile, nodding
"Don't worry, (Y/N). Believe me when I tell you Nagito is still head over heels in love with you, even after all this time. It's been six years and he can still go on about you for ages," She let out a small chuckle, making me feel a lot more at ease. Normal couples usually move on from the 'honeymoon phase' after the first few weeks of dating, but me and Nagito were not a 'normal' couple. We were stuck in a never-ending honeymoon cycle to put it more precisely. But we would never change our lovey-dovey, sappy ways for anyone
As Sonia clipped my veil under my tiara, I heard the door click, revealing Mikan wearing a (F/C) bridesmaid dress, identical to Sonia's. Her dark purple hair was in a high ponytail. I was surprised how she got her hair to look natural in an updo, despite some strands being different lengths
"Umm....(Y/N)? It's time," She flashed her usual meek smile at me, making my cheeks blush. I turned to Sonia, who gave the same smile she showed my earlier. She linked my elbow with hers, taking me out of the dressing room, to the main hall
**********************************************************************************************
As I linked elbows with Hajime, he walked me to the golden colored banquet hall, leading me down the white carpet with red rose petals scattered all over it. My smile never left my face as we walked down the aisle together, every step leading me closer to Nagito. He wore a white tuxedo with a gold tie and red rose pinned to his right breast pocket. I have no idea how Hajime and Kazuichi managed to tame his marshmallow locks back in a neat low bun, but it was working for him
"Thank you for walking me down the aisle, Hajime. It means a lot since my father couldn't be here," I sighed, whispering a thanks to my closest guy friend. Hajime gave me a sad smile, knowing that my father was on active duty overseas, but also knew that if he could, he would definitely be here with me
"It's no problem at all, (Y/N). You look stunning. Take good care of this one," He nodded his head lightly towards Nagito before giving me a quick kiss on the cheek, taking his place with the other groomsmen near Nagito. I took a few steps up the stage so I was directly under the silver arch that shined an elegant lighting over me and my future husband. Nagito's facial expression was enough to tell me what he was thinking
Just like that adorably loner back in high school.....he was in love
"You look like the angel of hope...." He muttered under his breath, taking in every single inch of my body adorned in white fabric, diamonds, and silver jewels. I blushed, looking down, only to feel his fingers lift my chin up, making my (E/C) orbs met his green ones
"Don't you look down, (Y/N). Otherwise, how am I going to kiss my angel?" He chuckled lightly, making me blush an even deeper red. We stared into each others' eyes a bit longer, time standing still, as if we were the only two people in the world. It was perfect
Until.....
"HEY! ARE YOU FREAKS GONNA GET THIS WEDDING STARTED OR WHAT?!"
Hiyoko shouted at us from the middle row of the left side. Mahiru shushed her, giving us an apologetic smile, making sure that the short blond didn't act out of line on our special night
"Remind me why we invited Hiyoko again?" Nagito asked me softly, making me flash him an apologetic smile of my own
"She's....sorta, kinda apart of my friend group....I guess. Hey, she hangs with Ibuki, Mahiru, and sometimes Mikan, that has to count for something" I shrugged, making him shake his head, but let out one last soft giggle before the priest cleared his voice, opening his bible between us
"Dear beloved, we are gathered here today to join this man and this woman in holy matrimony......"
*Twenty minutes later*
"Nagito Komaeda. Do you take this woman to be your wife, to live together in holy matrimony, to love her, to honor her, to comfort her, and to keep her in sickness and in health, forsaking all others, for as long as you both shall live?"
Nagito didn't hesitate for a millisecond as he nodded, keeping his signature calm smile on his pale face
"I do,"
"(Y/N) (L/N). Do you this man to be your husband, to live together in holy matrimony, to love him, to honor him, to comfort him, and to keep him in sickness and in health, forsaking all others, for as long as you both shall live?"
"I do,"
"We will now begin the exchange of the rings. First, the man will place the ring on the woman's finger and repeat after me," He nodded towards Nagito as he pulled out a white gold halo ring with a princess cut diamond. He gently took my hand, slipping it on, hearing what the priest was saying to him. He didn't let go of my left hand as he put the ring on, but rather, took my right one too, squeezing them softly
"I give you this ring as a token and pledge of our constant faith and abiding love. I, Nagito Komaeda, take you, (Y/N) (L/N), to be my wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part," He vowed. After Nagito was done, I did the same, slipping on a white gold wedding band on his left finger, hearing the priest repeat the same dialogue to me, only switch the place of mine and Nagito's names
"I give you this ring as a token and pledge of our constant faith and abiding love. I, (Y/N) (L/N), take you, Nagito Komaeda, to be my husband, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part," I told him with every ounce of my heart, earning a few awes from the crowd
"By virtue of the authority vested in me under the laws of Tokyo, Japan, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride," The priest closed his book, taking a step back allowing Nagito to pull me close to smash his lips onto mine. Which is exactly what happened before I could even process the whole thought in my head. Before I knew it, I felt a pair of soft lips meet me glossy red ones
It was absolutely romantic and perfect. Nagito usually loves to take his time with our kisses, only giving me the best and heartfelt experience that he claims I deserve. Yet this one was different--we were married now. This kiss sealed the next chapter of our lives. And from the immense amount of passion he put in...I can see a hopeful future for us
Nagito pulled away, a bit of cheekiness in his usual smile. "I put on the chapstick like you wanted," He chuckled, making me smirk
"I thought there was something different," I mischievously teased him, but it was cut short by a cheerful voice in front of us
"Hey! Hey! You guys stand still, so I can take some pictures!" Mahiru smiled, kneeling down to get the best angle. "Come on, the happy couple, show me those smiles!" She encouraged, focusing her camera. Me and Nagito both blushed, as we posed with each other, allowing the Ultimate photographer take our wedding pictures
**********************************************************************************************
After we took our wedding pics, Nagito carried me to the dining hall where we had our dinner. We were greeted by many congratulations and applauses as our loved ones cheered for us, allowing us some room, as we were the guests of honor. After dinner was over, Sonia popped some champagne, pouring herself, us, and Hajime a glass. After a long sip from her glass, she took a microphone, turning it on
"Good evening everyone! Thank you all for coming to the wedding of Nagito and (Y/N) Komaeda," She cheered, making everyone clap. My blond best friend turned to me, flashing me a smirk, knowing the words "(Y/N) Komaeda" would make my heart beat out of the control for the first few weeks of my new name. It was hard to believe Sonia was so naive and didn't fully understand foreign idioms and teasing. Well, it has been almost a decade since she settled down in Japan
"Now, it is honor the maid of honor and best man share speeches about the bride and groom. Please, if you allow me, I have a few words I would love to say about (Y/N)," She calmly stated in the microphone. She cleared her voice before she started her speech, everyone word clear and making my blush deepen into a dark red
"(Y/N) was the first friend I've made here when I moved to Japan. I honestly had no idea what was going to happen when I first attended Hope Peak's academy. I'm not denying that I've had great friends that stuck by my side and treated me well. They didn't see me as Princess Sonia Nevermind, but as Sonia Nevermind, the seventeen year old high school girl. I was so afraid to come out of my shell fully, despite everyone welcoming me with open arms. However, (Y/N) was the one to inspire me to be myself. She was the one who showed me not to be embarrassed about my origins or weird ways of thinking. I've confided in her more than anyone. She was my shoulder to lean on, my problems became hers, and her advice is what shaped me to be who I am today. In fact, without her, I probably wouldn't even be here in Japan still. It's all thanks to her that I can confidently call myself a bright young woman who got to where she is now not because of my status, but because of my hard work and determination. Two things I wouldn't have without this beautiful, intelligent, sweet lady that I had the honor to call my best friend," She moved aside, showing me to the party guests. Everyone cheered as Sonia finished her speech, only to fluster my even more, hugging Nagito closer so I could hide in his chest. I heard his laid back laugh, as he stroked my hair softly, whispering in my ear
"Don't be embarrassed, (Y/N). Every word Sonia says is true. You're truly the embodiment of hope for everyone. Especially for me," He assure me, making me pull my face from his chest, but still staying close to him. Mostly because his arm was on my waist and, from his grip, it seemed like he had no intention of letting me go
"And now, we will hear from the best man, Hajime Hinata," Sonia introduced the brunette man to the audience, as she handed him the mic. Hajime was greeted with applause as he tapped the microphone before sharing his speech
"Thank you, Sonia. Now, I would like start to by saying that being Nagito's best man is such an honor. He....we've may have not been the most popular people in school, but I can say with absolute certainty that it was an honor to be his best friend. Nagito was the first person to show me around and introduce me to everyone that I came to know as my classmate during our time in Hope Peaks academy. I can also say that it was during our time in high school that we've grown closer to each other and I've learned that Nagito wasn't that 'lonely weirdo' that everyone thought he was. He was just someone that wanted to be loved. And I trust that (Y/N) was able to give that to him. It was an honor to see my close friend grow as a better person with the love of his life by his side. We've supported each other and came to each other when we needed it the most. And as time went on, I've saw a shimmer of happiness bloom inside Nagito, his hope opening up inside of him. And I would like to believe it is because (Y/N) showed him what it's liked to be loved...along with much more. Thank you everyone...and thank you (Y/N)," Hajime turned to me, a smile plastered on his face "Please keep giving him hope" He nodded, turning off the mic. The crowd erupted in applause again, as the four of us drained our champagne glasses, finishing up our dinner
**********************************************************************************************
(Third person POV)
"I'm so happy for you, Nagito!" Hajime exclaimed to his best friend, clinking his wine glass with Nagito's. The white haired boy smiled, a faint pink blush being painted on his cheeks
"Thank you, Hajime. I just can't believe it. I married the literal angel of hope....I feel like I can do anything with her by my side..." He sighed happily, taking a sip of his red wine
"Do you think you can get Miss. Sonia to marry me, Nagito?" Kazuichi asked him, pointing to her talking to me. Sonia must've heard their conversation as the blond princess winced at his words, moving closer to the bride. Nagito just chuckled, putting his glass down
"I think it really depends if she wants to, Kazuichi," He gently broke his spirit, as the pink haired man just grunted, crossing his arms. Gundham gave him a death glare, as Fuyuhiko tried to ease the tension between them by starting a new conversation
"I still can't believe Nagito out of all of us got married first. Well, I guess if this crazy bastard can get married, there's hope for our asses after all," He smiled lightly, shoving his hands in his pockets. Nagito's eyes light up, but this time, a mix of hope and despair twisted in them
"Did you say....hope?" He grinned, making all the guys roll their eyes, grimacing
"Seriously--Really?!" They all scolded-asked him, making the white haired man chuckle
"Sorry, sorry. I just....can't believe trash like me got married to a literal angel. She's the ray of hope I needed in my life...my savior...my everything. I love her so much. How can someone as gorgeous, smart, and hopeful as her love someone as worthless as me?" He questioned, his pink blush turning red as he watched the (H/C) haired girl clink her red wine with a group of her closest friends. Nagito was literally snapped out of his gaze, as his best friend snapped his fingers in front his face
"Hey, (Y/N) wouldn't like you talking about yourself like that. But I think now is the best time to stop gushing about her to us and go get your...hope," He gave Nagito a smile, nodding towards (Y/N)
"Ah, you're right, Hajime. I'll see you guys later," He excused himself from the groomsmen, going over to the group of girls. He saw his new wife talking to Peko, and waved in her direction
"(Y/N)!" He hollered, making his way towards her. The ultimate swords-woman put her glass down, not wanting to get in the way of the newly wedded couple
"I think I'll go and find young master. Congratulations again, (Y/N)," She told the bride one last time before going off in the opposite direction. Nagito took both hands of his angel, pulling her close to him
"I think it's time we have that first dance, don't you think so, my stunning hope?" He asked, making her nod
"I think you're right, marshmallow. Come," She gestured for him to follow her, as the made their way to the dance floor. Classical music filled the room, as the bride wrapped her arms around her husband's neck, his hands making his way towards her waist. They held each other close as they started to slow dance, gazing into each other's eyes
"I'm so glad you didn't let Ibuki play for our wedding and just hired a DJ. She can get a bit...eccentric with her music," He chuckled softly, making (Y/N) let out one of her own
"Yeah, we wouldn't want a repeat of my 19th birthday," The happy couple both slightly shuddered at the temporary loss of hearing all their friends and them included had when the ultimate musician played for (Y/N) during one of my birthday parties. Nagito nuzzled his nose with hers, before kissing her once again, whispering one more thing that made her blush
"This is hope, huh? Geez, how did I get so lucky?" He asked himself softly, dancing the night away with his ray of hope, looking forward to a hope filled future with his angel
(Bonus/Epilogue)
"Time for the bouquet toss!" (Y/N) cheered, brandishing her bouquet of red and white roses in her hand. All the females crowded behind her, already ready to brawl over the bundle of flowers. The (H/C) turned away, closing her eyes before throwing the flowers behind her. All of a sudden, the group of girls fought like wild animals, kicking and pulling each other's hair for the bouquet
"...........Maybe we shouldn't have included that, angel. I heard it was a bit played out too," Nagito winced, seeing Hiyoko kick Mikan in her crotch area
"I thought my bear crashed the wedding, but this.....how low can these mortals go for a small collection of earth floral? It's not like it's the lost jewel of the underworld," Gundham stated, watching the fight unfold with his arms crossed
"Wow! Who knew Miss Sonia could double leg takedown someone so hard?!" Kazuichi flashed a lovestruck smile, as Sonia smashed Mahiru to the floor by both her legs
"Peko! Go for the stomach! No, lower! Dammit!" Fuyuhiko yelled at the woman who was like an older sister to him, watching her use her bamboo sword on Akane
"AKANE! YOU GOT THIS! YOU MAY NOT HAVE A SWORD, BUT YOU HAVE DETERMINATION AND STRONG WILLPOWER! SHOW SOME SPIRIT!!!!!!" Nekomaru screamed, rooting for Akane during the fight between her and Peko
Hajime was the only man that remained silent as he was drinking the last of the orange juice at his table, trying to focus on reading a book on his phone. The fight went on for what seemed like a century only to end in....
"H-Huh?!"
Chiaki, who was fast asleep at her table and the only one not fighting over the bouquet, felt the flowers land on her lap. She rubbed her eyes, and picked up the bouquet in her hands. Smiling softly, she got up and walked over to Hajime
"Hajime. Look what I got," She showed him the flowers, making her boyfriend gasp, looking up from his phone
"Chiaki, I...." He grinned, taking it. "T-Thank you. I promise....maybe one day in the near future..." He turned to Nagito and (Y/N) "Don't take off those wedding decorations yet. We may have another couple using this place soon," He chuckled, making everyone (except Sonia, Mikan, and Hiyoko who were crying over losing the bouquet) cheer
Yep, this was definitely a night to remember

As we approach the anniversary of Heath Ledger’s passing, I would like to use my platform to discuss a few things I find increasingly important that we, as fans, keep in mind: Do NOT mock his death. Do NOT harass his family, friends, etc. (don’t ever do this, but especially not this week or the day of.) Do NOT use his death to signify your online presence. Those of us who appreciate this hard-working, loving, giving soul deserve the freedom of expression granted to us, given that we remain within the bounds of positivity, consideration for others and for Heath Ledger himself.
Tumblr media
(image: Heath photographed for The West Australian on June 9th, 2001.)
I implore you to treat everyone with respect and to honor Heath in a way in which you would honor a loved one; be kind, courteous, respectful and tactful whenever you are discussing his passing and remain conscious of others and their feelings regarding this subject. It is a subject of sensitivity for many and I ask that you consider how others might feel when approached with the topic. Do NOT pass around photos of him that the paparazzi took on that fateful day. This is a blatant disregard for Heath and his privacy; He was unable to consent to having those photos taken, for obvious reasons, and I am certain that he would not have consented, given his distaste for the paparazzi and having felt as though his life was ‘on display’.
Remember to treat him and others with respect. It is the bare minimum of common courtesy when dealing with such a raw topic; Heath would be honored by how most choose to remember him and I think that he would be humbled by the legacy he’s left behind.
On another, more important note, we must to remember a few things regarding the late Heath Ledger:
He did not die because of his role as The Joker in ‘The Dark Knight’.
He did NOT die of a suicide.
Heath was struggling with insomnia, illness, his break-up with Michelle and (presumably) depression (though I don’t believe that was ever officially confirmed) at the time of his passing and we must remember how sensitive a subject this is, for his family, loved ones, friends and fans alike.
For more factual information on his passing, I recommend visiting these links provided:
Friends and Family Remember His Final Weeks
Some important quotes from this article to take into consideration:
“Gerry Grennell, Ledger’s friend and dialect coach who lived and worked with the star while he was shooting The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus in the final weeks of his life, spoke with PEOPLE in 2017 for a cover story on Ledger, nine years after the actor’s death. He recalled his friend being “exhausted, emotionally and physically” while battling a lingering pneumonia-type illness.”
“Grennell said the star’s mood was low. “He missed his girl, he missed his family, he missed his little girl — he desperately wanted to see her and hold her and play with her,” he added, referring to Ledger’s former girlfriend Michelle Williams and their then-2-year-old daughter, Matilda. “He was desperately unhappy, desperately sad.””
But in his final weeks, Grennell said Ledger knew he was spiraling. Still, he couldn’t stop himself from taking the pills. “He said, ‘I got to stop, it’s not helping, I’m not well, it’s making me feel more upset,’” Grennell continued. “It wasn’t helping with the relationship issues, it wasn’t helping with missing his kid, it wasn’t helping his sleeping — and he knew that.”
“Being such a social guy, having to be a bit of a hermit, or wear hats and glasses was super annoying,” he added, describing the lengths to which Ledger went to avoid the paparazzi. “His happiest I remember was times like when we were in Bondi on the beach catching waves, and nobody really looking his way, and when he moved to Brooklyn and could walk around with nobody bothering him.”
Heath Ledger’s Father Kim Speaks of Son’s Death - Trigger Warning: Kim Ledger mentions seeing EMS removing Heath’s body from his home in new York. This video and its message is EXTREMELY important; if you choose to view no other material listed here, please watch this short interview.
Statements Made by Heath Ledger’s Sisters
Heath Ledger’s Sisters Clear Up Rumors About His Death In New Documentary
Some important quotes from this article to take into consideration:
Though the doc doesn't elaborate on the "demons" that plagued Ledger's final days, it does change the narrative about his mental state at that time. According to the actor's family, Ledger's role in The Dark Knight didn't depress him, as so many tabloids had reported. It energized him."It was coming out that he was depressed and it was taking a toll, and we were going, 'What?'" Bell said. "It was the absolute opposite," Kate Ledger added. "He had an amazing sense of humor, and I guess only his close family and friends really knew that. But he was having fun. He wasn’t depressed about The Joker."
That's about as far as the film delves into Ledger's death. Instead, I Am Heath Ledger chooses to focus on his life. It may not be a complete picture of the actor, but after nearly a decade of rampant rumors and tabloid gossip, it's nice to see Heath through his own lens.
Speculation into Heath’s passing has been vast, leaving much to the media to exaggerate and perpetuate; there is very little evidence or proof that lends to the fact that Heath was an ‘addict’ as has been portrayed, however this statement can be found on his Wikipedia page:
“Ledger was "widely reported to have struggled with substance abuse.” Following Ledger's death, Entertainment Tonight aired video footage from 2006 in which Ledger stated that he "'used to smoke five joints a day for 20 years” and news outlets reported that his drug abuse had prompted Williams to request that he move out of their apartment in Brooklyn. Ledger's publicist asserted that some reportage regarding Ledger and drugs had been inaccurate.”
When discussing his death, please keep in mind that a large portion about his personal life has been over-exaggerated and therefore, research is key.
Heath’s private life is not something we should pry into and we should be respectful of the fact that we simply do not have the information to conclusively determine certain theories. It is among human nature to ask questions and want answers, but it is our responsibility to know what is appropriate and how we should go about researching such a topic.
Do not pry into Heath’s private life; be mindful of the information you choose to share and treat him as you would treat any other person. Just because he is a “celebrity” does NOT mean that every detail of his life should be public access. Treat him how you would want to be treated; you are not entitled to his private life, nor is anyone other than those he was closest to.
We have countless interviews and testimonies to his character from family and friends, those of which prove to be the most accurate.
Check out this video: Famous People Talking About Heath Ledger to hear some of these positive testaments to his character.
Drug abuse is a very serious matter; I do not condone Heath’s decision to abuse prescription drugs, nor should any fan; his death provides a testament to the dangers of prescription pills and we should remember to be mindful of their effect. Prescription drug abuse is a serious matter and we should not overlook the seriousness of it.
If you or someone you know is suffering from Opioid drug abuse, visit the link provided for the CDC’s help and resources
Please remain respectful while researching his passing and use discretion. Information perpetuated by the media has proved time and time again to be harmful to those in the limelight and Heath was a victim of that as well. Respect the fact that we do not know of his private life and accept that we do not have the right to know. There is a large amount of information present, providing speculation into this subject and I advise you to research with caution, as some of it is damaging to Heath’s character.
Most importantly, use this time to remember Heath for the incredibly gifted and talented soul that he was. As fans, it is important not only to understand his passing, but to keep his legacy alive through the ways in which we choose to honor and remember him.
Heath Ledger’s death was a tragedy. His family and friends still grieve his passing and his daughter, Matilda, is without a father due to his premature death. Please be respectful and courteous of this and honor Heath in a way in which he would be proud of.
Thank you for taking the time to read this lengthy post. With much controversy surrounding Ledger’s death, I felt it necessary to speak out on a couple of things, especially with the anniversary of his death coming up. Please feel free to add onto this post any way you would like, especially if you find more information that is factual and important to share within the community.
I will reiterate: BE RESPECTFUL. BE COURTEOUS. BE KIND. Do NOT harass his family and friends. Do NOT mock his death. Do NOT share offensive/upsetting images or media that is damaging to his character, now or ever. Respect others who choose to use this time simply to remember this wonderful man for all that he was and do not discuss his passing with anyone who might be triggered by the mentioning of it.
This community is a loving, caring and amazing place where we choose to remember Heath in our own ways and keep his memory alive through the creations and art we all share. Build each other up and listen to one another; treat each other as if you are looking at Heath directly and show the world the same kindness he showed while he was among us.
Thank you.

I have so many bnha fanfic ideas, they’ve just been popping into my head every few days for weeks now
So I’m just gonna share them all on this one post instead of making a million new fandom posts out of nowhere (ok, it’s closer to, like, ten - but still!)
If any of y’all want me to actually write any of them, don’t hesitate to say so - or if you just want to ask questions and talk about the ideas I’d be totally down for that too
Also, if any of them inspire you to write or draw something, please send me a link when you’re done!
(under a readmore cause it’s long and also there’s spoilers)
Fae courts AU
Nedzu - Spring King
U.A. / The Spring Court - also known as the Court of Lost Children, all members of the Court were once human children or children of one of the other Courts and they view it as their duty to care for the lost, neglected, and abused children of the world (one of two child stealing Courts)
All Might - Summer King
All For One - Winter King
Objectively, the Summer and Winter Courts are not as different as they like to believe - a Summer fae is just as likely to trick or turn on you as a Winter fae, they just prefer to play at benevolence while Winter fae make no secret of their nature
Shie Hassaikai / The Autumn Court - used to be more like a lesser version of the Summer and Winter Courts, until Overhaul put the King to sleep and made his research into humanity the Court’s focus - they’re now the second child stealing Court
Eraserhead was once human but has made enough deals over the years - most notably with Nezu himself - that he’s practically fae now
Deku and Kachan are human children who were taken in by the Spring Court, though Deku only after catching the attention of All Might
Endeavor - High Fae in the Summer Court - wants to become Summer King but knows he’s not powerful enough to overthrow All Might, married a High Winter Fae in hopes that combining their powers would make one of their kids powerful enough
Dabi fakes his death and eventually becomes a High Fae in the Winter Court
Shouto seeks sanctuary in the Spring Court’s halls
(I don’t actually have a plot for it, but I’m enjoying figuring out the world and stuff)
Evil All Might AU
The underworld knows that young Yagi Toshinori is a con-artist, and a very good one
The kid’s quirkless, and from a bad neighborhood, so of course he gets involved in shady dealings to get by
But he never ever gets caught
See, he’s mastered the eager, innocent, “I know I’m quirkless, but it’s my dream to be a hero! To fight crime! To be someone people can look up to, put their faith in! To be a… a symbol!” act, he’s been running that con any time he’s found in the wrong place at the wrong time since he first started walking - no one with even a single good bone in their body ever questions it
He gets involved with AFO, who’s like “I could give you one of my lesser quirks in exchange for your loyalty, or you could do a long undercover mission for me and get one of the most powerful quirks in existence out of it”
His mission: pulling his signature con on Shimura Nana, being given One for All, becoming a hero, becoming the Number One Hero and Symbol of Peace and the singular pillar holding up hero society, maintaining that status for long enough that everyone grows a little complacent, finding a weak and manipulable child to pass One for All on to, setting them up to fail, and then retiring
(I’d either have this one be All Might-focused and end with the reveal, or have it be Izuku-focused and give it a happy ending where All Might totally chose the wrong kid, cause nothing about Izuku is weak)
Commission analyst Izuku au
Member of the commission overhears him muttering/catches a glance at his notebook while watching a hero fight, strikes up a conversation
The commission tracks him down, shows up at his home with a similar offer to the one they gave Hawks - but instead of a hero they want him to be an analyst for them
Like Hawks, they take away his name, only calling him something like Eagle Eye or something (I’d go with Hawkeye but Hawks already exists so it might be weird?)
(Basically this fic idea is just an excuse to have Izuku and Hawks as the ultimate team, and helping each other get out from under the commission’s thumb - maybe revolutionizing hero society along the way)
Canon rewrite w/ Monoma as main character, somehow
All I have for this one so far is just:
Monoma copies afo, uses copied afo to steal afo, AFO is now defeated
After getting better at controlling her quirk, Eri rewinds Kurogiri back into Shirakumo Oboro
But he’s the age he was when he died
So he joins the current class 2-A
As in Izuku’s class
Basically it’s just his old best friends having to teach him and him making friends with all Aizawa’s problem children
Time travel
(I have multiple cause I really like time travel)
Aizawa-centric time loop fic
Loop stretching from day before Oboro’s death to towards the end of the liberation war (diverging from canon in at least the first loop cause he fucking dies during the fight)
At first he thinks maybe he just, like, dreamt up those 14(?) years
But then things are happening the same way and so he starts changing things and he dies and wakes up the day before Oboro’s death again
He experiments a lot with the loops, figuring out that they’re definitely not time based - unless it’d loop back at the end of the liberation war even if he survives? Requires further testing
Details he changes throughout the loops (culminating in a loop in which he successfully changes all of them):
Oboro’s death
Shimura Tenko being taken in by All for One, All Might’s injury(?), Izuku accepting One for All, and more I haven’t fully decided on
Time travel fic where Pro Hero Deku accidentally time travels back to just before Aizawa’s first year as a student at ua and somehow gets hired as a teacher
Gonna be a two-parter
Part one: Izuku has to teach teen versions of his old high school teachers, channels their future selves a little
Part two: Aizawa, Yamada, and Kayama have to teach the teen version of their old favorite high school teacher, and end up channeling his future self - in different ways
(I’ve come across a couple different “Izuku gets accidentally sent back in time to when his teachers were students” fanfics and they keep making me think about how Aizawa & co would react to meeting him in canon timeline after meeting him in high school and then I took the natural step forward from there to “let’s parallel their nostalgia, make him their high school teacher so it can really hit hard”)
Izuku is related to rooftop trio aus
(I’ve come across a bunch of “Izuku is the biological son of at least one member of the rooftop trio” aus but only one acknowledges that in canon he’s only 15 years younger than them and that one has a very angsty explanation, so I wanted some that fit with canon and also aren’t too heavy - cause like, sure you could go with the complex extremely angsty trauma reason or you could go with the “these 13-16-year-olds(idk Inko’s canon age and as long as I never look it up I can pretend I’m not going against canon by making her only 2-ish years older than them) did what teenagers do and went to a party and made some relatively innocent mistakes and ended up with a pregnancy”)
Dadoro
Oboro and Inko have been neighbors and best friends their whole childhood, despite being a couple years separated in age
The fall before Oboro starts high school, Inko takes him along to a party with her high school friends
They get drunk and sleep together
Inko gets pregnant
They talk it through with each other and their families and agree to keep the baby (they’re both actually pretty excited to be parents) and raise it together platonically
Some months into first year (maybe second), Oboro tells his friends about his kid
Spends the rest of his life gushing about Izuku to all his friends (sorry for the word choice fjdhshshx)
Oboro dies and his friends make pact to help Inko take care of Izuku once they have steady income and stuff
But Inko’s family has moved and she’s married and they can’t find her
They keep searching, for roughly 14 years
And then Midoriya Izuku enrolls in UA’s hero course and his big green eyes and curly green hair match the pictures Oboro used to show them and his smile is identical to their old friend’s
And his mom’s name is Inko
But they’re not sure (His quirk doesn’t match Oboro’s nor his Inko’s after all)
Not until after the first term and the summer training disaster camp and Kamino, when All Might and Aizawa go house to house talking to parents about the dorms and All Might tries to insist on visiting the Midoriyas alone but Aizawa insists right back cause this is the closest he’s come to confirmation
and then he’s face to face with a woman he’s only ever seen in photographs
And then they talk about everything or something idk I haven’t got that far
Dadzawa and Dadmic (trans!aizawa)
A year and a half before he starts high school(I know I changed the timeline a whole year here but shush, how’s he supposed to get into U.A.’s hero course while pregnant?), Aizawa’s middle school and one or two others have a Joint Event, at which he meets a loud but cute blonde who keeps flirting with him
They hook up
He gets pregnant
His dad insists he get an abortion but he doesn’t want to and his mom supports his decision, they convince his dad to let him go through with the pregnancy on the condition that he gives the baby up for adoption immediately
He has twins, both boys (one with green eyes like the blonde’s(but darker) and the other with purple like Shouta’s mother’s)(that’s right, Shinsou is also their son in this, you’re welcome), and he gives them up for adoption to separate families
But with conditions
No one from his blood family is allowed to initiate contact with either boy without the kid’s knowing consent (he’s terrified of his father changing his mind, tracking them down, and hurting them)
With the one exception being that he’s allowed to send each one a birthday present and card every year
Which he does
Then he starts at UA and then gets into the hero course and there he is… the blonde… the father of Shouta’s children… who does not recognize him now that he’s started transitioning
This time Shouta’s the one who flirts - or tries to, the kid’s a little too oblivious
Of course they do eventually get together, and even end up married! (Haven’t decided if they get together during high school or after they start teaching there or what(probably the latter, for plot reasons))
The first time Midoriya Inko contacts Shouta is after Izuku is diagnosed quirkless - she knows the young man loves her son as much as she does and might be able to reassure him where she already failed
His next birthday, Izuku’s mystery card says he can be a hero even without a quirk; it makes Izuku’s year
Hitoshi’s parents also contact Shouta that year, the boy struggling to make and keep friends ever since his quirk came in; Shouta’s birthday card to him isn’t much different from Izuku’s, really
The Shinsous get in an accident and Hitoshi is placed in foster care and suddenly Shouta can’t send him his yearly gift and card anymore cause nobody will tell him where the boy is now because of the contact portion of the adoption contract
They also won’t tell Hitoshi that he was adopted and his birth father is out there looking for him, so Shouta’s pretty sure they’re trying to hide that he’s being mistreated wherever he is
Inko continues to contact Shouta now and then whenever she thinks Izuku will need extra encouragement come his birthday (she never tells Izuku about being adopted - even after he enters his teen years - cause after his diagnosis, everyone but her left him and she doesn’t want him to internalize the idea that his birth parents didn’t want him - Shouta’s not happy with the decision, but he understands)
Then one year he sends Izuku a Present Mic figurine and she writes him to share how excited the boy was and how Present Mic is one of his favorite heroes and he listens to his radio show all the time and Shouta simultaneously melts and has a minor breakdown at the realization that he hasn’t told his husband that they have sons, he can’t tell Hizashi that their son listens to his radio show regularly when Hizashi doesn’t know Izuku even exists
So of course, being the rational man he is, he finally tells Hizashi about Izuku and Hitoshi
Hizashi freaks, of course (in a good way(mostly))
And then, one of the worst days of Shouta’s life
He’s on patrol and sees a figure on a rooftop and rushes to get there - just in case it’s a jumper - and it’s his son, his Izuku
They talk(it doesn’t breach the adoption contract, he didn’t know it was Izuku when he approached and the kid spoke first) and Izuku tells him “everything” about his encounter with All Might, Shouta tells him to tell his parents - they’re there to support him - and also that All Might’s full of shit and a quirkless hero is totally possible with the right training and enough willpower
Then after they leave the rooftop his kid gets in trouble again, rushing in to save a classmate from the same sludge villain that attacked him earlier that day
Of course Shouta swoops in and pulls the kids out of danger before All Might arrives to “save the day”
This time Shouta insists on walking Izuku home to make sure he actually gets there safely
But then All Might shows up again wanting to talk to his kid privately and he wants to tell the man to fuck off but he’s not legally allowed, really, so when Izuku says it’s fine he reluctantly leaves
Inko asks to meet him just days later
She tells him that Izuku told her everything about what happened that day - including what Shouta told him - and she tells him that she’s realized she needs to properly support her son in pursuing his dream
She understands that Shouta wouldn’t feel comfortable training him one-on-one with the kid not knowing who they are to each other, and she’s still not ready to tell him yet, so she asks for a list, for him to help her get in touch with people who can train Izuku or ways for Izuku to train on his own, ways for her to help
He puts her in contact with seven pro heroes (Midnight, Gunhead, the Wild Wild Pussycats, and - somehow - Sir Nighteye) and a vigilante team (the Naruhata Crawler and his team), all of whom he talks into helping - and has to tell about his connection to this boy they’ll be teaching
(Each have something important to teach him: Midnight - using words and body language to throw off opponents, Gunhead - martial arts, Wild Wild Pussycats - stamina, teamwork and use of your environment when out in nature, Sir Nighteye - analysis and planning, the Naruhata Vigilantes - use of gadgets and weapons, use of your environment when in the city, having the heart of a hero, and - most importantly - that quirkless people can be fucking strong and skilled and terrifying and certainly aren’t weak or useless (they were trained by a quirkless vigilante after all, they’re bound to have a different perspective on the idea of a quirkless hero than anyone else, a perspective Izuku could really benefit from))
Ten months later, Izuku passes UA’s entrance exam and is placed in Shouta’s class (he’s pretty sure Nezu did that on purpose)
When the school year starts, he and Hizashi discover that Izuku isn’t the only one in one of their classes - Hitoshi is in Hizashi’s homeroom
They are, of course, fucking extatic
They just need to, y’know, figure out how to tell him that they’re his parents and maybe possibly would love custody of him if he wants
(Again I haven’t gotten any further than that yet)
(Also, if you can’t tell, in this au Izuku turns down All Might’s offer of One for All, cause Eraserhead said he could be a hero without a quirk and was honestly a lot kinder and more responsible (like, making sure the kid got home safely instead of leaving him on a roof) and stuff than All Might and honestly might be his new favorite hero)

Amusement Park Date🎢 (Ushijima Wakatoshi/Reader) ➸sfw, gn!Reader, 1.3k+ words  ➷fluff, established relationship, lil kisses, really just a cute drabble that got too long, introspection into your relationship with Ushiwaka   ➷Ushiwaka mini playlist:  Airplane Mode♫  Daft Pretty Boys♫  Rings♫  I LOVE YOU 3000 II♫
Tumblr media
You snort, trying to stifle your laugh with the back of a hand when your eyes catch the display screen showcasing images of the park’s guests. Some coasters have a hidden camera installed to catch you when you least expect it, at the steepest drop during the ride, the collection of photographs are then displayed at the rollercoaster’s exit for purchase (or in your case, a quick snap of your phone’s camera).
The slideshow took it’s sweet time to shuffle through the images, but once it landed on your coaster’s photo, you couldn’t help the giggle that bubbled up.
Ushijima is stone faced in the image, a severe juxtaposition to your animated features. Upon any normal person’s inspection, they’d see the image at face value, thinking ‘that man must be seriously unbothered!’
Though after dating Ushijima for a few years, you’ve learned to pick up on the most minute details.
He’s got a death grip on the rails, hands tightened around the seat bars as if the 190 pound guy could fly out the top. His perfectly cut jaw is tightened, teeth probably gnashing as he bites back a scream. His eyebrows are raised ever so slightly, similar to his widened eyes. All nearly imperceptible signs that show just how wildly uncomfortable Ushijima felt during the ride, and you’re changing your lockscreen to it.
It seems he isn’t familiar with the jarring spins, jerks, and dips that amusement park rides entail—you start to recall he may have mentioned he’d never been on one before, and that he was looking forward to experiencing new things on your date.
A sentiment he is surely taking back at the moment, though it does please you with a chest-encompassing warmth that he still followed along, toughing out the rollercoasters on your checklist.
You’re surprised he lasted through all the rides you completed without making his discomfort apparent, the sun’s already started setting and you’ve explored a majority of the park. You mentally scold and punch yourself for failing to recognize Ushijima’s unease sooner, you probably should’ve stopped at the fourth or fifth ride.
When you notice his brows are furrowed tighter than usual, a pang of sympathy envelops you. Before you can ask if he wants to grab water, or rest somewhere, his deep voice fills your ears,
“Can we...” Ushijima pauses, deliberating for a second, “Grab something to eat?” he blinks, expression neutral as ever.
You sense he’s actually asking for a break from the rollercoasters rather than craving for something, but he’s asking in a roundabout and not so subtle way. You’d already eaten fairly recently, after all.
The method surprises you, considering he’s usually straightforward to a fault.
“Of course Wakatoshi,” you have to lean up to his height to wrap your arms around his neck, coaxing him into a soft kiss.
He presses his lips to yours without hesitation, accepting the gesture. You take it in stride with a bright smile, corners of your lips turning up into the kiss. You almost giggle when you feel his long lashes brush against your delicate skin.
You suspect Ushijima didn’t want to hold you back from having a good time, which is probably the same reason he suffered through 6 rollercoasters with you, and as a result suggested an alternative for you to enjoy instead. Spinning death traps are not for everyone, you suppose, and you aren’t opposed to trying one of the myriad of dessert places you spotted earlier.
“I’m craving something sweet, actually. You can pick where we go!”
“Doesn’t matter to me.”
Ushijima pulls back from your kiss, serious countenance making its comeback.
From an outsider’s perspective, Ushijima probably seems like an aloof or indifferent boyfriend, but you knew better. It was his acts of service that enabled that sunny smile to cross your features, the way he wholeheartedly steps out of his comfort zone for you, how he’s learned to stray from his reserved habits in order to make things work.
Ushijima links his hand with yours, and you feel as thrilled as the first time he did it. Initially, he never bothered with hand holding. It took a while for Ushijima to understand the domesticity of something simple, like holding hands, and how special it could be for you. When he figured it out, he made sure to interlock your hands more often, fingers laced together and held steadily at his side.
“Alright, this way then!”
You usher him along, tugging his palm gently to make way for the ice cream shop you had in mind. Ushijima accepts the change of direction as he walks in step with you (a difficult task for someone so tall, and you appreciate the sweet yet silent gesture).
Walking along, weaving between couples and groups, Ushijima’s hand remains linked with yours. When you peek at him, your heart almost fully stops in your chest.
He looks stunning. Every neon sign and coaster you pace by paints Ushijima’s features with the vivid shades of every color on the spectrum.
The brilliant purples suit him best, but you think the crisp evergreens and hazy red glows are equally striking, illuminating his features so well. You didn’t think you could fall in love with him again and again so easily, but something as simple as the lighting in the area proves that theory wrong.
You whisk him away to your go-to dessert spot before he can catch you staring, eager to continue your amusement park date. On the other hand, Ushijima is just content to be close to you and away from the dizzying, literal head spinning rides.
“Let’s share a sundae! This one has a lot of treats and candies that go on top... tons of whipped cream, edible sparkles, not to mention it’s huge too!”
You gush, eyeballing the lurid stock photo picturing the absolute monstrosity of an ice cream sundae.
“Alright.”
Ushijima looks to be impartial to your request, relaying the order to your server. But his gaze is soft, at a complete loss for the harsh edges he naturally maintains. The subtle shift in his expression clues you in to his endearment for your ice cream enthusiasm, and you preen to yourself upon the realization.
You know Ushijima is subject to being labeled as that indifferent, aloof, and stone faced boyfriend.
But to you, he doesn’t need a smile that’s a mile wide. You can clearly see the soft glow in his hazel eyes, the kind that usually accompanies a grin anyways.
He doesn’t have to be experienced at showing public displays of affection, when he practices the underrated gestures–always carrying your stuff, opening doors, walking closest to the road, matching your pace–which are equally as special.
“I love you, Wakatoshi.”
And when you tell him you love him, you’re absolutely enamored as you’re caught up analyzing the little details his expression might give away. Your eyes flick across his features, as if you don’t already have every attribute and imperfection committed to memory and stamped onto your heart.
He doesn’t need to feel obligated to say it back immediately.
“I take it the sundae was good then?”
And he doesn’t, but you can see the beginnings of a smile tugging at his lips.
He doesn’t need to say I love you all the time, because you know he will when it counts. Late night haze, wrapped up in his arms in a safe space, smothered warmly by too many blankets. The moon’s glow dipping in passed the curtains and painting your cheeks with a lunar highlight, three words are whispered against the nape of your neck in spite of the comfortable silence.
“I love you ‘toshi, and I love this sundae.”
But that won’t stop you from reminding him whenever you can, if only to see the faint cherry pink play at the apples of his cheeks, eyes pretending to find something of fake interest in the distance. And without fail, Ushijima Wakatoshi will smile handsomely at every declaration of love you make to him.
Tumblr media
A/N: I wanted to play with more introspection and imagery, I hope it turned out alright! This is probably the first Ushijima fic I’ve written kadlg i hope you enjoyed iiiit

Could you please do a prompt with "I don't know who to choose" with reader, omi and masumi??
I see you, anon  👀👀👀 This prompt isn’t actually on the list – the closest would be “I don’t know which one to choose.”
If you really meant that prompt, this would be an entirely different scenario. But since I thought of a scenario already when I saw the prompt you sent in, I’ll let it slide…
But for future reference, please follow the rules of the posts I make, everyone!
Anyway, I’m not mad. I just wanna stick to the rules of my blog^^
Also, I’m gonna assume Year 3 ages so this will be less squicky for me. Therefore, Omi is 22 and Masumi is 18.
“I don’t know.” Ideas
“I don’t know who to choose.”
Your sketchbook was settled securely on your lap as you perched upon a fountain, lost in the scenery around you at the local park. As you try your best to commit the image to paper, your mind registers the faint shutter sound of a camera in the background. Used to hearing the sound around the scenic park, you pay no heed to it and continue to sketch. Strangely, the shutters of the camera slowly become closer and closer. You try your best to ignore it up until the point when the shutters become too close for comfort. Annoyed, you look up to see a (quite attractive) young man standing a few feet away from you sheepishly lower his camera.
“Er… hello…” he greets, trailing off with an awkward laugh.
You narrow your eyes at him and set your sketchbook aside, standing up to stride over and give him a piece of your mind. Probably sensing the aura of righteous fury you radiate, the brown-haired man raises his arms up in surrender as if trying to placate you.
“Wait, wait!” he cries out. “Hey now… let me explain, please.”
‘The audacity…’ you think to yourself but cross your arms expectantly, waiting for his explanation.
“I’m Omi, a photographer and actor.” he says, extending his hand for a handshake. When you refuse to offer your own hand, still pretty pissed at his intrusion of privacy, he pulls his hand back and rubs the back of his neck in embarrassment. “So, um… I came to the park looking for still life to photograph, but then you caught my eye and I kinda just thoughtlessly snapped a shot. I’m really sorry –”
“Can I see the picture?” you interrupt.
“Of-of course.” Omi obliges. His cheeks flush in embarrassment, but he dutifully shows you the picture he took of you. You marvel at his use of light, manipulating the angle to catch your sharp features as you appear to be in complete focus, fixated on your own artwork.
“Wow… you made me look great in this photo…”
Omi murmurs something that you don’t quite catch but when you ask him to repeat it, he flushes an even darker shade of pink and diverts the conversation to his interest in photography, showing you other shots of the still life that he claimed to be taking pictures of earlier. You find yourself drawn in by the passion glowing in his eyes as he talks about the photos.
Over the course of your conversation, the two of you move to one of the parks benches. Mid-sentence, Omi glances at the park’s clock and he pauses.
“Everything alright?” you ask.
“I didn’t realize the time…” Omi replies, looking at you with a troubled gaze.
“Hey, no problem. Don’t let me keep you.”
“But–“
“I frequent this place a lot for inspiration, so I’ll see you around?” you say, standing up. Feeling bold, you give him a playful wink and say, “And next time you want to take a picture of me, just ask! See you soon, Omi!”
You run off without glancing back, a bit embarrassed to find out what his reaction was.
--
Later that week you visit your favorite music store. As you browse through some vintage vinyl, you can feel someone’s eyes on you. You quickly swivel around but find no one else in the aisle with you. Warily, you turn back to the music selection only to feel someone’s presence somewhat uncomfortably close to you.
“You’ve got good taste.”
You jump at the proximity of the stranger’s voice and take a few seconds to calm yourself before facing the guy.
“E-excuse me?”
“I’ve been watching you make your rounds through the store.” He says, absentmindedly twirling the cord of his white headphones. “I prefer post and progressive rock, but I know how to appreciate some of the older gens of music.”
As he goes on, you notice that he slowly inches his hand closer and closer to your face. You close your eyes – in fear? anticipation? – and are surprised to see that he merely pulls out a record from behind you and starts scanning its contents.
‘Weird…’ you think, watching the stranger. ‘But he is kinda cute, I guess…’
Noticing the title on the case of the vinyl, you instantly perk up, forgetting your earlier apprehension.
“Hey, that’s one of my favorites!”
Before you can second guess yourself, you pluck the vinyl out of the stranger’s hands and march over to the store’s vinyl record player. When the stranger fails to follow you, you throw him an expectant glance and he dutifully makes his way over. As you play the record, a smile makes its way onto your face, and you bop your head to the beat. Again, you can feel the stranger’s eyes on you, but this time you pay no heed – actually basking in the attention this time.
“My name is Masumi, by the way.”
You smile at him.
“Nice to meet you, Masumi.”
Before you close your eyes to lose yourself in the vibe of the music, you could’ve sworn you saw a dark blush on Masumi’s cheeks as he stared at you but quickly shoot down that idea.
‘It’s probably nothing…’
--
Weeks pass since the last time you’ve seen those two – admittedly handsome and charming – strangers. Remembering yourself, you shake your head to clear your cloudy thoughts.
‘Focus. You’re here to support Izumi’s play.’ You think to yourself as you take a seat in the packed theater. You review the playbill given to you at the entrance. ‘A mixed troupe play by the Spring and Autumn Troupes, with the leads played by – ‘
Your eyes widen.
‘Omi Fushimi and Masumi Usui?!’
You’re shaken out of your thoughts by Izumi’s voice ringing throughout the theater, announcing the beginning of the play. Sure enough, the two strangers you met earlier this month come out on stage. Thankfully, neither of them seem to be able to see you among the crowded audience.
‘I asked fate to give me a plot twist this month… but not like this!’
--
“Izumi!” you yell your friend’s name, practically barreling her over when you see her after the show. “You did so well!”
“Ahahaha, hello to you, too.” Izumi returns your hug before pulling away. “But you give me too much credit – it’s the actors who carried out the show, after all.”
“Don’t you dare give me that self-deprecation, Tachibana!” you scold, mockingly shaking a fist at her. “The director is just as important as the actors!”
Izumi laughs, waving off your playful anger. “Yes, yes. Come on, I wanna introduce you to the cast.”
Remembering who exactly the lead actors were, your mood quickly turns sour. “Uh, maybe not… I wouldn’t want to bother them right after the show. They need their rest if they want to keep going for the rest of the week.”
“Nonsense!” Izumi says, linking her arm with yours. “Let’s go!”
Izumi whisks you backstage, you desperately trying to escape her grip and trying to make excuses up along the way, but Izumi has none of and before you know it the door to the dressing room is unceremoniously thrown open. Immediately, you can feel several pairs of eyes on you, and are particularly attuned to two of the actors’ gazes which you try your best to avoid.
“Great job, everyone!” Izumi greets, oblivious to the atmosphere in the room. “This is one of my friends from my old theater troupe. They said they really liked your performance, and they’re here – “
“- for me.” Two voices cut in.
Omi and Masumi stare at each other, surprised. A few beats pass and Masumi gets a feral look in his eyes, which Omi meets with a smug smirk. The two quickly make their way over to you and Izumi, who is looking more and more confused by the second.
“I had no idea my favorite muse would be coming to watch our show.” Omi says with a cheeky wink. “If I had known you were interested in theater, I would’ve invited you myself.”
Before you can reply, Masumi butts in.
“Your favorite muse?” Masumi sneers condescendingly at the older man. As Masumi focuses his gaze on you and Izumi, his entire demeanor does a 180.
“My angel of music here obviously heard about me being the lead and came over to see me. How kind of you to bring them backstage, director. You’re the best. How about the two of you join me for dinner?” Masumi says, outstretching his hands to the both of you. Beside you, Izumi sighs but seems to be accustomed to Masumi’s antics.
Omi gently nudges Masumi to the side, offering his own hand. “Oh, but it wouldn’t be fair to split your attention between the director and your… angel of music, now would it, Masumi? How about you take the director out to dinner, while I go to dinner with – “
As the two men bicker, you shoot a desperate look at Izumi, who seems to finally have a grasp on the situation. Looking at the men’s hands offered to you in invitation, you feel an internal struggle rise.
‘I…I don’t know who to choose!’
Mercifully, Izumi finally comes to her senses and comes to your rescue, slinging an arm around your shoulders.
“How about we go with the whole cast in celebration for a successful opening night?” Izumi says, more of a command than a question. The two men immediately stop their argument and defer to their director, but both have pouts on their faces, brows furrowed.
You and Izumi walk out of the theater, arms linked. Omi and Masumi are close behind the two of you, with the rest of the cast leisurely trailing after. As you chat with Izumi, she suddenly looks back with a stern expression. Omi gives a kind, but obviously strained, smile in response, while Masumi does his best to school his face into an innocent expression. You and Izumi glance at each other and sigh.
‘This is gonna be a long night…’

Gone but Not Forgotten
(I have listened to a few tma episodes and this happened) AO3
Statement of Alice Miller about the disappearance of her childhood friend, Jenny Baker in 1999 from Canterbury, Kent. Original statement given June 14th 2010.
Audio recording by Jonathan Sims, Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute, London
Statement Begins.
Jenny Baker is my best friend, well she was my best friend, I’ve never met anyone like her since.
We met in year three, it was a few weeks after we came back from Christmas and there was a new girl in the class. Jenny was taller than me, most of the girls really and a couple of the boys. I remember her hair mostly, it was really curly, she had really bright eyes as well, really dark but like… it was a pretty dark. Always reminded me a little of a night sky.
She had a backpack with a horse on it, I really liked horses and I think that’s part of why I decided I wanted to be friends with her? Anyway she sat next to me since it was the only free seat and I just remember somehow by the time we went to lunch we’d decided we were friends.
We stuck together like glue after that. Jenny somehow never missed a day of school, but the days I wasn’t at school, I missed a couple here and there, you know how it is Jenny was there but never seemed to hang around with anyone else as if she just spend the day waiting for me to show up.
Jenny only really seemed to talk to me now that I think about it... she was a quiet girl. Even then she didn't actually speak to me much actually, I just always seemed to know what she was thinking, what she wanted. Jenny never hurt me, never said anything mean. Like she had no mean  bone in her body. She seemed... lonely though. But I mean who wouldn't be if you just moved?
Jenny wasn’t my only friend, I had a few others in my class, and outside of it. But Jenny was something else, a different sort of friend, we were very connected like we were almost the same person? She seemed to get on with my other friends but not like how we got on. Jenny always seemed to be off to the side a bit if we were in a group, like she was in the group but not in the group? That make sense? Jenny seemed at her best, her most relaxed when it was just her and me.
Jenny and I seemed to like… well pretty much the same things. Horses, the Spice Girls, we both apparently wanted to be vets maybe when we grew up. We liked the same food too, her lunch was always the same as mine, if we went out anywhere and got icecream we’d always come back with the same one…
It was a bit weird but I mean you often like the same things as your best friend right?
I joined Brownies and there was Jenny, in my unit. Our birthdays were only a month apart, mine was in April and hers was in May. Jenny always came to my parties, I tended to invite most of my class, well the girls at least and most of them came, that’s what you did at that age...
I... I actually never remember Jenny actually inviting people to her birthdays, but there were birthdays and I was there at least. I was always there for Jenny, she needed me.
I spent a lot of time at her house, 37 Havelock Street, it was really close to the school actually only a street or two away, it had a blue door. Only house I’d ever seen with a blue door, at the time at least. I’ve seen houses with blue doors since.
When I think about it… I don’t remember her parents? I’m sure she had them but I can’t tell you anything about them. Don't think Jenny had any brothers or sisters either. Only child. Just like me. I always wanted a sister, Jenny was the closest I ever had.
Then, it was in year six. We were near the end of primary school by that point, everyone getting ready to go to secondary school. Seemed such a big deal back then.
It was maybe a month before the term finished, by this point everyone knew what school they were going to. Somehow I never found which school Jenny was going to but I just assumed we were going to the same school, St Anslem’s.
I went to school that day, and Jenny wasn’t there. Although she’d never taken a day off school I just guessed that day she was off sick or something?
Then she wasn’t there the next day, or the next. It was about a week later I asked about it. I was getting worried by that point. I remember at that time there was a lot of panic about kidnappers when I was growing up, I remember having to go to several school assemblies over the years about them. About what to do.
Everyone looked at me like I’d lost it when I asked about Jenny. There wasn’t anyone named Jenny in our class, or in our school. No one could remember a girl named Jenny Baker with curly hair and a horse backpack, who was one of the tallest girls in the class, who liked the Spice Girls and went to Brownies. I remember asking in all the places we used to go together. But no no one remembered Jenny, no one at all. Only I remembered her.
My parents don’t remember her either, at the time I think they thought I’d been talking about an imaginary friend, but they’d seen Jenny too, talked to her. Jenny had come to so many places with us, been in our house, at our table, in my bedroom.
I kept an eye out, no signs went up, nothing on the news about a missing ten year old. Jenny hadn’t been abducted or become a runaway. I'd had big plans for our eleventh birthdays.
Jenny just vanished like she just... disappeared. I'd learned about black holes by that point and had to wonder if maybe somehow she'd gone through one? That somehow made sense at the time. A random black hole just popped up and took her away. Poof!
I went past her house a few times, there was a house there but it didn’t have a blue door. It didn’t look like Jenny’s house at all. Jenny's house seemed a lot brighter, a lot prettier. This house looked boring, uninviting. Not like my Jenny's house at all.
Things disappeared too, things Jenny had given me. Some toy horses including the one that had feathers in it's hair, I've never seen a toy horse like it since, some bracelets, a necklace, photographs, pictures she drew. I remember having those things, remember caring for them a lot and they were just gone, they just disappeared along with Jenny.
Only thing that’s left is one photograph. It’s us at school, me sitting next to Jenny. She's right there see? She's real.
I have it with me I’d rather have it back though but you can make a copy of it?
Statement Ends.
Further investigation into this case has yelled little results. Alice Miller’s enrolment at the St Thomas’ Catholic Primary School in Canterbury was verified, but no students under the name Jenny Baker were registered at the school at the time of this investigation. The name Baker has not been recorded connected with the property at 37 Havelock Street at the time of the alleged incident.
There is an alleged phenomenon known as maladaptive daydreaming where those afflicted are said to adopt elaborate fantasies as a form of disassociation to an extent it interferes with normal human functioning. I would be tempted to place this incident as a case of this, excessive fantasy by a lonely child. Psychological assessments of Alice Miller show no signs of any dissociative conditions and Alice Miller otherwise recounted her upbringing as fairly stable and in her words ‘happy' and seems to be in sound mental health overall.
Forgery of the photograph is a possibility, but at the time of the original statement it’s noted the photograph is deemed as genuine.Owing to technological limits at the time such forgery would’ve likely been difficult for the average person. Alice Miller was able to provide the original negative but was unwilling to surrender it.
Alice Miller was reinterviewed in 2012 but no extra information was garnered. She’s been in contact a few times since but no new information has been gleaned by either party. Alice Miller as of the last contact dated 2014 still seems very invested in finding out what happened to Jenny Baker.
It has been noted that the appearance of Jenny Baker does bare resemblance to a missing child from a case reported in 1989 of a child by the name of Rachel Cooke who was reported missing from the Folkestone area by a foster carer, however no further link has been established. Both Rachel Cooke and Jenny Baker seem to have completely disappeared.

Storm of the Republic
Chapter 2
AO3 Link | 1 | 2
——————————————————————————————
Summary:  When Tup murdered General Tiplar during a battle, Anakin Skywalker and Captain Rex dispatched Ahsoka, Fives, and Yara to solve the mystery that was plaguing the Clone Army. Meanwhile, Senator Padme Amidala contacted Commander Fox, Commander Tori, Riyo Chuchi, and Dipper to help her continue investigating the death of Palpatine, suspecting that Dooku was behind the evil plot. But when Dooku send an ISB agent to stop them, the team had to race against time to search for the truth, which could alter the course of the galaxy.
————————————————————————————
Facing the wide window, Emperor Dooku gazed at the Coruscanti skyscraper, holding a file in his hands. He gazed at the white, puffy clouds floating in the azure sky as he watched the traffic flowing smoothly, taking a mental note of every hovering vehicle. The old man noticed the Jedi Temple from afar, which was left in ruins.
The scenery of the city was like how he remembered when he was first brought to the metropolis planet, where he trained to be a valiant Jedi from a young age. Dooku’s first training from Master Yoda was meditation practice, where he learned to detach himself from his physical surroundings. It wasn’t as easy as it seems, but after a few attempts, he was beaming with pride and joy towards his own success.
When Master Yoda knighted him, he experienced the same emotions he felt as a youngling after going through the challenging trials and errors he endured. Dooku could also say the same for his late apprentice, Qui-Gon Jinn, who was the apple of his eye.
The Emperor recalled the day when a 12-year-old boy with dark brown hair was assigned to him. Qui-Gon was shy and was anxious about failing his master, but Dooku wasn’t upset. Rather, he was impressed that his Padawan admitted his flaws. Not everyone has the guts to reveal their vulnerabilities, and from there, he took Qui-Gon to explore the Temple.
He was a curious boy, Dooku smiled fondly, as he glanced at the photograph of him standing underneath a cherry blossom tree. He even saw some similarities with Qui-Gon’s apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Qui-Gon spoke highly about him a couple of times. At one point, Dooku even persuaded Obi-Wan to join him and defeat the Sith, but was disheartened when the Jedi Master refused his offer.
Turning to his desk, Dooku picked up another file. Only this time, it was related to two missing Jedi Knights. According to an investigation by Agent Starros, Ava Lira and Eva Bella Young were born in Chandrila to a single mother, Kaia Young. At the age of 3, they were taken to the Jedi Temple, and the rest, as they say, was history. Based on their appearances, the identical twins resemble their mother, despite their red hair and blue-green eyes.
Six months ago, the Jedi Order reported them missing after they did not turn up, and the Nurin alert was placed in order to search for them. Though there was a lead, the trail went cold and until today; they were nowhere to be found.
They don’t deserve to die, he frowned at the twins’ photograph when he heard the door hissed open. A light purple woman with chestnut hair and facial markings entered his office, bowing at him with utmost respect. “You summoned me, my Lord?”
“Yes, Agent Doherty,” he greeted cordially. “You may take a seat, please. I would like to discuss the progress of your mission so far.”
“Yes, my Lord,” Lenora answered politely as she sat down and placed her datapad on his wooden desk. “I have a list of senators I have monitored so far. Would you like to have a look?”
“That would be lovely, Agent Doherty,” he agreed as he picked up the datapad, skimming through the list of senators that sided with the Galactic Republic. Though he barely knows all of them, there were a few individuals that stood out, particularly the ones closer to the late Chancellor.
They were Senator Padmé Amidala of Naboo, Senator Bail Organa of Alderaan, Senator Mon Mothma of Chandrila, and former Senator Riyo Chuchi of Pantora. These were the politicians that were vocal in the Senate, particularly about the ongoing war they’re facing.
Senator Amidala was close confidant with Chancellor Palpatine. They knew each other decades ago, when she was still Queen of Naboo. She was most critical about the Clone Wars and even tried to end the conflict with one of the Separatist senators, before the latter was killed. Despite her background in politics, however, she was also skilled in combat.
Senator Organa was also her closest ally, along with Senator Mothma and Senator Chuchi. His home planet, Alderaan, was the most peaceful in the galaxy, and like her, he also advocated for the war to end, which didn’t come as a surprise to the Emperor.
Placing the last three names on a list, Dooku then shifted his focus towards Riyo Chuchi, who was formerly a Senator of Pantora. She was part of the Republic Senate for almost three years, before the Imperial Security Bureau labeled her as a traitor. “Agent Doherty,” he spoke, showing his interest towards the young politician. “What can you tell me about your findings on Senator Chuchi?”
“Senator Chuchi was responsible for the death of Agent Starros and fled Coruscant 6 months ago,” Lenora explained to him. “She had help from clone units CC-1010, CC-6231, and CT-1512, who were part of the traitorous Republic remnants’ army. If it weren't for Agent Starros, they would have been captured by now.”
“I’m impressed that you outdid your former mentor,” Dooku lifted his chin up. “I find Agent Starros rather emotional for my taste. I’m sure you shared my sentiment towards her, considering what she had put you through.”
Lenora bobbed her head as she recalled the torture Agent Starros had committed in the past, making her fist clenched. “I’m glad she’s dead, my Lord. She had sociopathic tendencies and was prone to emotional outburst when things didn’t go her way. It’s rather unprofessional, if you ask me.”
“And that is something we do not tolerate in our government,” he returned her datapad, along with the files related to the Chancellor’s death. “Take these back to the late Chancellor’s residence, please. It is much safer there.”
“Yes, my Lord,” she bowed, acknowledging his orders.
“And keep a vigilant eye on Senator Amidala and her latchkeys,” added Dooku. “We must let no one bring down our government, just like how the Jedi did with the Chancellor.”
“I understand, my Lord,” the ISB agent approved as she walked out of the room and stepped inside the lift, releasing her breath. That wasn’t so bad, she wiped her forehead. I’m so glad the Emperor wasn’t as bad as he seemed.
Lenora recollected the day the Republic Intelligence was dispatched to handle the case of Palpatine’s murder. Dina Starros was in charge of the case, much to her envy. She used to pour a bucket of ice-cold water on Lenora whenever she failed, and forced her to sleep outside her dorm. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, she begged. I’ll do better next time, I promise.
Thinking about it made her shiver in fright as she pictured herself in a warm, secluded desert, which soothes her. Still clinging on her datapad and files, Lenora stared at the panels when the lift door opened, revealing a familiar face she saw from her datapad. “Good morning, senator,” she chirped, catching her by surprise. “How delightful to see you here.”
“Good morning, Agent Doherty,” Padmé replied in a nervous tone. “I didn’t expect to see you here.”
“Oh, the Emperor summoned me. He wanted to know more about my progress. You know how meticulous he can be.”
“Of course he would,” Padme raised her eyebrows as the lift door was shut, leaving her at mercy with the ISB agent. Out of all people, why must I run into her?
“Is everything okay, senator?” Lenora inquired, noticing her fidgeting. “You seemed tense.”
The Senator of Naboo shook her head and cleared her throat. “Everything is alright, agent. I was just thinking about the next Senate debate, that’s all.”
“That wouldn’t be a problem, given that you are one of the best politicians we have right now. Besides, I trust you’ll do great later on.”
“Thank you, Agent Doherty,” she coaxed. “You must feel honoured to receive a mission. It’s not easy to get special attention from the Emperor himself, you know.”
How smart of her to say such a thing, Lenora bemused as she turned to her, crossing her fingers behind her back. “I wouldn’t call it special attention, really. He only told me to monitor the rest of the senators and put those files back at Palpatine’s residence, that’s all.”
Padmé’s eyes widened when her plan worked, prompting her to sneak a quick glimpse at the datapad and the files she was carrying. “What’s so important about the files that it needed to be kept at the late Chancellor’s house, anyway?”
“It’s a case file relating to his death,” Lenora spilled the truth. “Every piece of evidence that we’ve collected from the investigations is recorded here. That way, it’s easier for us to keep track of our progress. Impressive, isn’t it?”
If I could get my hands on them, I could finally reveal the truth behind Palpatine’s death to the Senate. “It is, actually. I bet there must be a lot of guards outside his house.”
The agent shook her head. “We only placed sensors by the door. The Emperor finds it a waste of resources to dispatch a couple of guards outside. Besides, I doubt anyone is going to break in.”
I’ll risk my life for that file. “That makes a lot of sense.”
Stopping at the 47th floor, Padmé sighed in relief as she stepped out the lift, grinning at Lenora. “I wish I could go on with our conversations, but I have important matters to deal with.”
“I understand, senator,” she maintained her smile. “Have a wonderful day.”

Other well-liked Korean dishes similar to bibimba, reimen and chige are also often out there at a yakiniku-ya. Sukiyaki-ya focus on sukiyaki, while Shabu Shabu-ya concentrate on shabu-shabu. These forms of restaurants are also often found in massive, Western-style resorts and tend to be on the costly side. Tempura-ya focus on tempura dishes, corresponding to tendon and various tempura. Sadly Tempura Matsui’s unique chef, after which the place was named, died two years in the past, however the restaurant has been capable of preserve its Michelin star nonetheless. The restaurant industry in Japan is alleged to be extremely aggressive. This manifests itself in various ways, as business players attempt to differentiate themselves via convenience, among other means. For occasion, the opening hours of retailers are sometimes long, and many chain eating places that supply informal eating are open across the clock. Furthermore, a good deal of the market share is owned by a handful of companies. A possible consequence is that new trade players and small businesses face an uphill battle by way of competitiveness and survivability. The market is dominated by home companies, with McDonald’s being the one exception that has made it into the highest ten concerning annual revenue. According to its website, this retailer is the oldest Japanese grocery retailer in the US, open since 1907. Today, it has two outposts, one close to Grand Central and one close to the 59th and Lexington subway station. The one near Grand Central is somewhat greater, with a stand by Japanese import Omusubi Gonbei that is devoted simply to rice balls. Grab some of their rice balls or some made to order ramen from the Brooklyn Ramen outposts in each their shops. Personally, I assume these are one of the best methods to enjoy Japanese food on the cheap. In these shops, yow will discover a wide variety of Japanese food, all comparatively inexpensive and of fairly good quality. And as an additional plus, you can choose up some packaged Japanese snacks or ingredients in case you wish to try your hand at making Japanese meals at house.

It's been 6 years :)
On March 30th, 2015 I decided I wanted a gaming side blog. (so we're early, but shush, it's the month for me)
I didn't know what I'd use it for exactly, but I had ideas- something I always have even if most of them only get as far as daydreamin' or writing out before closing them :P
For proof on the lack of direction the blog initially had- the March 30th date is the anniversary of my first post, an in-depth and lengthy review of Dragon Warrior Monsters for the GBC.
If you know the blog then you know "Extremely long and in-depth reviews" aren't the norm around here. As a matter of fact, that first post is the ONLY one I've done!
The closest I've come to ever repeating that would be the (word of the day) Directionless video I put out on Hades to get a grip on the concept of making videos, but that wasn't nearly as much of a 'review' as that first post is.
Tangent, definitely planning on trying my hand at videos some more for the foreseeable future. Probably not gonna use the tagline Full Impressions that I tossed as a whim for the Hades video but yeah- I'm excited to try my hand at a few videos :) tangent over.
It didn't take me long to come up with what I'd like to do for the blog though :)
A few months later I liveblogged a challenge run of FFT where I used only Ramza- a solo run. - Which maybe only happened because I tried a nuzlocke run a year prior on my main account-
(Nuzlocke | FFT challenge run)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thanks to that haphazard liveblog experiment I started to realize a couple things which became the primary motivators behind this blog.
1) I LOVE sharing experiences. No brainer, I'm sure, but being able to share my experiences, and compare them with others' experiences, and just that mutual sharing is uplifting and feels good to do.
2) Liveblogging is an EXCEPTIONAL motivator to buckle down and play all those games I said I'd play (cue everyone laughing because I'm still way behind and have an immeasurable backlog).
But I mean that, on both respects. I have plenty of motivators toward the blog today, but if I were to be concise it's pretty much "It's easier to beat games if I liveblog them- otherwise I get distracted and play other games" and "I love sharing experiences and thoughts with people about my favorite thing- games."
Since 2015 I've tackled around 70 games as full playthroughs, and an untold ton as one offs or just to ramble about for a bit.
I've had a lot of highlights over the years, and I don't talk much about it as an overall experience so I thought for the anniversary I'd try to do just that. Not everything- I can't say I have photographic memory that would bring all of it up without prompting after all :P But whatever comes to mind as I browse some of my old stuff- as well as some thoughts on what I'd like to see in the future.
It's gonna be a bit self-centric I assume as I type this preamble to it, so let me say outright that this blog wouldn't be half of what it is without all the people who've given it the time of day over the years.
From recommending games they love or appreciate, to comparing thoughts, to offering kind words for analysis I've done over the years, to pointing out when I'm dumb and misread a situation :P- to, yes, even the people who decided "Fuck this guy's ramble" and deleted my captions before reblogging my gifs way back during Hamtaro (Of COURSE I remember that! It's amusing lol).
This is better because of others, because of the interactions and the people I've gotten the chance to chat with or befriend. It's just a liveblog more or less, my own little bit of fun I toss out for myself if for anyone- so seeing others enjoy this or that from the work I put into sharing my experiences or thoughts is always a joy in itself :)
Anyway, onto selfishly rambling about some tidbits of the past :)
Also sorry but no, opted to not shove a ton of photos in, it does have a handful of links to old posts though :P
This'll be disorganized as heck as I'll add to it over time before I feel it's worth posting (or the tumblr post editor becomes a hassle and more or less forces me to).
First~
FFT Solo Ramza Challenge: Considering it was roughly the first thing this blog has done, it's also something that's stuck in my head a lot more clearly than most of the other stuff I've done to be honest lol.
In truth, this is partially because FFT is my favorite game, bar none. But it's also because the whole experience was pretty new to me. Prior to it I had really only done one self-imposed-challenge that wasn't requested by the game in some manner and that was a nuzlocke run of Blue version.
So adding a challenge to my favorite game was a fantastic experience!
Notes I just wanted to say today about that run: If anyone enjoys FFT I honestly recommend giving it a shot for the unique story it lends itself to. I do recommend skipping the rules until after the second battle but that's up to YOU to decide.
My first post on the subject is me complaining about spending 4 hours grinding out the second fight and, despite hyperbole being my natural state, that was NOT hyperbole.
It DID take 60~ restarts to beat. It DID take 4 hours. The reason is that that 2nd battle is RNG as HECK, you HAVE to have Delita do some meaningful actions, you HAVE to have the enemies miss and make poor plays, you damn near HAVE to crit a few instances to save yourself from taking too much damage.
It's a numbers game to the extreme, so I wouldn't fault anyone for 'cheating' and skipping the 2nd fight for the ruleset lol.
The memory that stands out the most for that run is actually isolated in a post in which Ramza (Purrick in this run) talks like a total badass as just ONE DUDE running into a room full of enemies. I just think on that as a great encapsulated view of what it was like. The run started off face grindingly difficult, but because FFT is a game that offers so much freedom to the player it was extremely easy to 'break' the game into making Purrick overpowered as hell.
That's something I love about some tactical RPGs, I love having the ability to play smart so that I can play stupid later on, and breaking the game into making him one shot god is certainly a good payoff for playing smart early on :P
RetQuick: I miss RetQuick, it was primarily a short experiment I did in 2015 where I'd play a game for a short span of time (REALLY short, like 10-20 minutes) and record that for the purpose of making gifs and saying a short piece on what I thought.
It's one of those formats where the purpose was pretty shallow- but had a reason. I wanted to try making some gifs with some tools that existed online, so I made an excuse to do just that.
I also wanted to play a TON of games, usually through emulation on my sister's PSP, and this let me do that.
These two minor goals came together and so I spent a while making RetQuicks which were honestly more fun to make than they had any right to be. I mean the gifs were tedious but the playing? The thought sharing? The end product ocassionally having more appeal than just a photoset? It was fun.
I'm thinking whenever I have trouble picking a game for the blog I'll revisit the format... sorta.
I already reused it for a short stint to show clips I had no plan on expanding into a playthrough, but that died as well as it was too similar to Tidbits posts (another tag I no longer really use).
My thought is to rebrand retquick as something of a tryout for what game comes next. Play a handful of my backlog games for an hour or so each and say some thoughts before saying which one I'll continue as the main game for that period of time.
Old Tag Stuff: One of those things that only sticks to me since I made the decisions but it's always funny for me to look back on my old posts because I was apprehensive as hell toward making my posts visible. The reason my early playthroughs on the My-Tags page are variants of Ret instead of just "The name of the game so people can find this post" is because I felt like a liveblog would just spam the tag to hell-
Something I don't remotely feel bad for doing anymore.
So I avoided getting any sort of spotlight for quite a while on the blog for little reason.
Why Retphienix?: This is just a dumb thought I wanted to share and I'm sure I've said before.
It stands for retro!
Yeah!
Ain't that dumb and also not a real shorthand? lol
I think I have some sort of deer in headlights anxiety towards naming things, I mean do you think I think Full Impressions is a good summation for a video? I don't. But perhaps that's overshadowed by the other inexperiences and anxiety driven decisions that had- doesn't matter.
Retphienix is Retphienix because I sat there in 2015 and thought "Well... what do I name an alt account?"
My main is Redphienix, which yes, is ALSO a terrible name AND is misspelled. But it's that because of sentimental reasons. As a kid I misspelled Redphoenix when making my gamertag (I knew how to spell Phoenix back then as well, I was too excited about xbox live and misspelled it) and it's become something of a sentimental misspelling.
So I wanted to make a mix on that for my game blog, but I had no idea what. In the end I thought "RetroPhienix? I don't know. Retphienix is closer to Redphienix. I'll do that" and so it was done.
And just like how Redphienix is both bad and misspelled but exists because of sentimental reasons- Retphienix has acquired the same 'flavor' in my eye lol.
Aspirations for the blog: I have no immediate ramp up plans or road map or whatever, and in truth I'll be happy if the blog stays just as it is forever- up until tumblr ends- I cry over lost posts- and I reopen it on another platform.
But I do have blurry half-considered daydreams that I'd like to see happen for the blog through some hard work or shifts on my part.
One is something I'm already doing kinda, hence my embarrassing means of bringing it up a lot lately. Videos- I want those. I wanna make some looks back on series people don't talk about that I enjoy, I want to make videos sharing my thoughts on games I beat for the blog (like what full impressions kinda was, but I don't think they'll have a unified name from here on out). Maybe retrospectives, but mostly when I think of making a video tied to retphienix or me in general it's me looking at a game that said something to me, and saying it louder with my own interpretations on it.
You know the kind, videos where they talk about a video game but not the whole thing- just a singular message they really heard loud and clear from it intentionally or not. I dig those and I know I end a lot of games having plenty to say that could be directed into such a format.
We'll see.
And I'm along for the ride on that one as well- currently I'm keeping my eyes on whatever is directly next, which happens to be "I plan on playing Omori, if it clicks as something to talk about I would like to take a shot at that in a video too!"
The other is that I'd like to build a small community. Wouldn't know the first thing on doing that in a modern sense, but just a little online friend group to chat with and play games together. Something that could open up multiplayer and coop experiences being better shared on the blog and would just in general expand my gaming to what it used to be back on the 360 when I had a large group to play with.
Since the 360 era ended I've pretty much closed off- stopped playing competitive games due to lack of interest- and slowed down to playing all games either solo, with randoms (and no mic usually), or with my cousin. It's a rare instance when I play with some good people like @gamesception or another friend of mine, John.
When I diverted from playing competitive games nonstop toward other genres I didn't intend to also cut out all my online gaming buds, it just kinda happened, and I never really put any effort into rectifying that.
So more or less I'd like to one day sit down and work on a discord server, and then buck up and put the leg work in to make some gamin' buds again, but that's such a vague concept anymore.
Sounds all sad and what not but it's more ambivalent, I made decisions that
changed how gaming worked for me after the 360 and this is just where it landed for better and worse- I'd just like to see if I can make it a little better :P
General things I think when I think retphienix: Honestly? I think of how much fun I've had over the years and how thankful I am to have had an outlet that encouraged me to explore more of the medium.
I REALLY love games. I went to college for games, I've written LEAGUES about games, I've played countless games, my childhood was games, my adult life is games- games games games yada yada yada.
So when I think of retphienix I think of how without it I probably wouldn't have explored a lot of the corners of gaming that I have.
I genuinely, and I mean this, might not have sat down and beaten FF7 for myself and would have considered the amount I played as a kid to be enough.
I might not have played Chrono Trigger yet, and I KNOW I wouldn't have played Chrono Cross, and I'm happy as hell to have played both of those. CT was a mind blowing moment for me that showed me just how good an RPG can be, and CC gave me miles to think of in terms of innovating an RPG and how beholden to the narrative a sequel should be (I don't feel CC should have been chrono at all lol).
I DEFINITELY wouldn't have given New Vegas another chance. And I know I'm a sourpuss on NV, I've been that way since I maxed my achievements on the 360 for it, but replaying it really did reveal to me how exceedingly negative I was being.
My memories had become "It's brown and a boring location >:(" and "The factions all suck and it doesn't do anything with the idea of bad factions >:(" and became "It's... a little brown guys, not a big fan of the area" and "They didn't do enough with exploring the gray factions" while adding "Wait. This is pretty damn fun. And 90% of the additions are stellar. And I forgot about Dead Money, my favorite dlc in any game ever with a story that tears at my heart every time I think of it, NV good actually?"
Faxanadu would have remained a cool game I saw on SSFF and not a game I played to the end and fell in love with the aesthetic feel it has!
Also that's a game I cheated like crazy on lol, I would do it again! Save state scumming games meant to be rudely difficult is only fair :P
I probably would have never sat down to play through Windwaker which was such a positive and uplifting experience that I now get the most relaxed and warm feeling in my heart when I see those blue waves.
There's so many experiences I would have left on the table in favor of like... putting more hours into a live service title or something.
Maybe, and no offense to my cousin or anyone else playing it, but maybe I'd be no-lifing World of Warcraft nonstop just stagnating my interest toward the skinner box mechanics of an MMO?
Some offense, actually but lightheartedly lol.
But beyond the entire games I've played for the blog, when I think retphienix I picture all the time making gifs, all those games I played on the PSP for short stints, buying a retron 5 to add to what I could explore and being stoked when they shipped a freebie box of old controllers to go with it, getting angry at the retron for being a Piece Of Shit lol, crying at the end of damn near every game with an emotional story because I'm a big emotional mess of a person who finds investing and crying at a story way too easy thanks to empathy pulls, oh!-
Getting excited whenever I found that I had a "*controversial*" opinion that no one would care about lol. Like the one that comes to mind is that I thoroughly believe that Dragon Ball Z II: Gekishin Freeza!! for the NES is WAY better than the fandom recognized and appreciated sequel/remake Dragon Ball Z: Legend of the Super Saiyan!
How many people do you hear talking about either game, let alone saying the NES game that is roughly half of the SNES remake is the better one :P But I stand by that! The SNES one is a remake of DBZ1 and 2 for the NES but it loses all the charm and some of the fun of the NES ones by being a lackluster SNES game!
lol
I admitted wholeheartedly that this post would be a lit-
little directionless (gotta love the new tumblr poster making me break sentences like that), but to sum things up.
It's been 6 years. It's been an untold amount of work to be honest- liveblogging a game, at least for me, hasn't been the easiest thing. It's a lot of thinking out my thoughts (heh), it's a lot of learning tools to make the capturing process possible, it's a lot of experimenting, it's a lot of writing and editing, and, well, sometimes it's just tough.
I mean I went to school for coding, not video editing, not writing, not image processing, not this or that- but this hobby has introduced a lot of things even if only at a VERY base level (I admit fully to using online alternatives to make gifs for instance).
I learned a lot about, well, a lot of things in order to use this blog to learn more about games- and all that work has become part of why I've loved all 6 years of this blog.
6 years of gaming, work, and you all- and it's been worth the investment :) Here's to many more and all of you whether you stumble upon this post or not- literally anyone who's interacted in these 6 years, thank you, and anyone who hasn't I offer you well wishes as well.

Mr Miyagi and Samantha & Anthony headcanons
Since Cobra Kai tells us Miyagi died in 2011 (a rough seven years before the beginning of season 1), it leaves us with many opportunity to explore his relationship with Daniel’s kids, especially Sam, being the oldest. As stated by her Wiki Karate Kid page, she was born in 2002, making her 9 when Mr Miyagi passed away; plenty of times for them to know one another and interact. As for Anthony, I’m pretty sure he’s met him but being born in 2008 (if I trust the KK Wiki) that would leave him being 3 years old when Miyagi died so he probably would not remember him specifically aside from Daniel’s, Amanda’s or Sam’s tales.
(Which honestly, when I think about it, makes me kinda sad because that kid, although having such a rude attitude, seems left out and the fact that everybody have something to say about Miyagi and Anthony doesn’t... Well. You get me)
Anyway, here’s of a list of little things I headcanon between Miyagi and Daniel’s kids:
Knowing Daniel it wouldn’t surprise me if he told Miyagi he was going to be a father first before Lucille. Would not surprise me at all. And of course Miyagi would be ecstatic, the kind of ecstatic when Daniel takes the car and he screams ‘BANZAI” at him. But I feel he would be really emotional as well. After losing his father in The Karate Kid Part II, and said his farewell to Yukie, he truly has no one else in the world except Daniel. Daniel is like the son he should have had but didn’t because of the internment camp. So for Daniel to 1) Manage to get his way up to being his own boss with the dealership 2) Meet Amanda, a beautiful and brilliant woman with whom he’s serious and settles down and 3) Starts his own family with her, this would make Miyagi so proud and emotional because he’s a part of it, Daniel makes sure he’s a part of it.
Maybe Daniel freaks out sometimes during Amanda’s first pregnancy because he wants to be a good father and he doesn’t know for sure if he’ll be one since he didn’t have his father for long, and what if he’s not good enough. So Miyagi gently but firmly reassures him and gives a piece of wisdom. And some alcohol too.
MAYBE MIYAGI TEARS UP WHEN DANIEL PRESENTS SAM TO HIM
And MAYBE he’s at the hospital having driven Lucille from the airport, and MAYBE he waits patiently as Daniel paces and then goes to be in the room with Amanda and just waits with Lucille and MAYBE he stands up abruptly with Lucille when Daniel comes out and he’s grinning like a madman and he just says “I’m a father” like he can’t believe it and Lucille and Miyagi hugs him real tight.
Since Daniel has no siblings, that, until Louie Jr came to LA for a job at the dealership, his family lives on the opposite coast... Daniel asking Mr Miyagi to be Sam’s godfather. He’d probably be considered a grandfather but up until them there would have been no official link/ties between Miyagi and the LaRussos (not that they need any but you get my point) (though Daniel would probably ask Miyagi to be his wedding witness because you know he would lmao) and that’s another way for Daniel to show him just how much he loves him and considers him like a true member of his family.
For real tho, Miyagi would legit be so gentle, tearing up at seeing a little bundle in Daniel’s arms and he’s so happy to introduce his daughter to his father figure and it’s all very solemn and emotional before Miyagi cracks up a joke about Sam being as stubborn as his dad when she does whatever.
If you don’t think Miyagi would swear to protect little Samantha LaRusso until his dying breath, think again. He’d cherish and treasure her and yet still spreading his bits of wisdom when Daniel is too hot-headed to do so.
One time, when Daniel and Amanda have no solution, they drop Sam off to Miyagi’s and she spends the day with him. He shows her his garden, that has seen better days but is still pretty much alive and not as rusty as we see in Cobra Kai before the renovation. He tells her many funny tales about Daniel learning Karate and falling into the river, of being covered in green paint. And Sam’s listen, she has stars in her eyes (Sam may look like Amanda but she’s a LOT like Daniel). Miyagi shows her some basic movements like Wax On/Wax Off without the waxing cars part and Daniel is this close to be jealous of a five year old.
Sam being excited whenever she goes to Mr Miyagi’s or he comes around and she asks him many questions about Daniel, about karate, about Okinawa too, how it was like (since I’m pretty sure Daniel would already talk a lot about his trip to Okinawa, etc).
When Sam pouts Miyagi laughs because it really is Daniel’s spitted portrait. He always have a little hug for her though and sometimes a little sweet to comfort her.
She’s not too fond of fishing however from times to times she’ll go because she just wants to keep Miyagi company
When Daniel tells Miyagi Sam wants to do karate. That she wants to learn with her dad. Man’s legit the happiest crying mess on earth.
Daniel freaking out big time when Amanda’s expecting Anthony (I read it was apparently unplanned but I can’t remember when it was said in the show so I might be mistaken. Another good excuse to rewatch, eh :p).
Miyagi comforting all the freaking LaRussos during that pregnancy. Daniel who’s panicking a bit (lot), Sam who has your typical “what if they don’t love me anymore” and Miyagi taken her up in his arms saying NO ONE could ever stop loving her and that she’ll have a friend in Tony and that she’ll be able to teach him loads of stuff. But also Amanda. I NEED some Mr Miyagi & Amanda interactions.
Like even though Miyagi is a constant presence in Daniel’s life and is obviously very important to him and Sam that would still be Daniel’s world, something Amanda knows on the surface but not well. And I need a moment between Miyagi and Amanda when it’s heartfelt and touching and Miyagi opening on how she helps him find balance and how he’s really happy for the both of them and that it truly makes his old man’s heart soar to see Daniel, to see the closest to a son he has find happiness and stability and that’s thanks to Amanda. Also give me a lunch or dinner when Miyagi is invited and Daniel suggests something stupid and Amanda is “na nah” and Miyagi backs her like “Listen to wife, Daniel-san. Amanda very smart” and Daniel crosses his arms like a pouty child.
I’d like to think Anthony was named after Daniel’s father so, once again, Daniel’s a mess and Miyagi’s there with Lucille maybe other LaRussos.
Dealing with two mini LaRussos will be the death of Mr Miyagi he swears (even though he loves them with his life)
Sam coming in one day after she pestered Daniel to teach her some japanese word like (Konnichiwa or Samu desu, arigato, simple words you know), she’d be so proud to show him and he’d be really touched and smiling his tight-lipped smile and warmth in his gaze.
Sam helping Mr Miyagi to cook whenever he cooks a dish from Okinawa or from Japan. Sam being the best sous-chef anybody could hope for and being really focused and intense on the tasks Miyagi gives her and just him making her feel like a real pro and how he couldn’t have done it without her.
Sam and Anthony making tons of drawings for Mr Miyagi and he keeps them all, hangs them all up in his house
Anthony stopping his cries the second he’s put into Miyagi’s arms.
Mr Miyagi singing traditional songs from Okinawa as lullabies for Sam and Tony.
And his last year when he begins to get weak and can’t move as much as before, Sam always hugging for a bit longer every time. She doesn’t really grasp what really is to come but when Daniel makes him soup when he’s sick or when he comes back from an appointment at the hospital, Sam is always there to help and to bring it to him and make sure he drinks every drop with her little hope that he’ll get better.
When Miyagi dies, she’s as distraught as Daniel. She cries a lot, sometimes at random but she also cries because she sees just how sad her dad is.
That’s about when she stops doing karate altogether because it hurts too much and moves on, meeting Aisha and being passionate about physics with her
She has photographs of her and Miyagi, some with Anthony and Daniel and the whole family. She has them hidden into an old children’s book in her bedroom and there are times when she feels a bit down and she looks at the pictures and although she’s sad and misses Miyagi a lot, she remembers his kind words, his advices and his gentleness and she feels suddenly better and warm, as if Miyagi had just wrapped a blanket around a shoulder and given her some hot chocolate or tea.
Anthony knows about the pictures, found them by accident once when he wanted to read the book (before being introduced to video games) and sometimes, when Sam is not there and he goes in her room and looks at them trying to remember scenes, words, Mr Miyagi’s voice. He can’t, not really, just some faded images and sounds. It makes him sad in a way that he’s the only one that doesn’t really remember Miyagi but still, he feels a sort of comforting feeling whenever he looks at the pictures.
Anyway, just Mr Miyagi loving the hell out of Sam and Anthony and being there for all the LaRussos and being a comforting presence and thought and a positive influence on them

Jaime is a fan of actress!Brienne and her show Oathkeeper, even going so far as to cosplay at events she attends. He is not, however, a fan of her love interest, played by Hyle Hunt. YES PLEASE
“Seven Hells, mate, you look exactly like Goldenhand!”
Jaime grinned at the man ahead of him in the queue. He looked down at his breastplate; the burnished steel and actual gold lion heads. “What, this old thing?”
“Um, yes! You look more like Goldenhand than the guy they got to play him on Oathkeeper!”
As his fellow con attendee nudged his friends and pointed at Jaime’s breastplate and broadsword, his brother sighed. Jaime frowned. “What?”
“You know full well that you look exactly like Goldenhand the Just. Not only because Goldenhand was a Lannister, but because you spent more than people spend on a house on your cosplay.”
Jaime shrugged as best he could in his armour. “You’re always saying I should live a little.”
“Yes, but buy a yacht; a round of drinks in a bar. Not a historically accurate suit of armour and an actual Valyrian steel blade.”
“It’s foam. Wouldn’t get through the metal detectors otherwise.”
Tyrion hung his head, but quickly lifted it as the doors to King’s Landing Comic-Con opened. Jaime did not share his brother’s love of wine or women, and Tyrion did not share his love of fencing or boxing, but the television show Oathkeeper was something that they could enjoy together. They had viewing parties every week, and were now attending their first convention in the hope of meeting the cast and crew. Tyrion, and no doubt most of the men in the queue, were hoping to meet Margaery Tyrell, famous for playing Queen Rose on the show.
Jaime, however, had his eye on someone else.
As the queue progressed inside, Jaime rested his hand on the scabbard he hoped to get signed by Brienne Tarth, the actress playing Lady Alysanne, who would later become the Blue Knight. As a child, Jaime had been fascinated by stories of Ser Blue and Goldenhand; as an adult, he had devoured a series of historical fiction novels set in the period. The show was...okay. Far too much nudity; several factual inaccuracies that Jaime did not care for at all. But Brienne Tarth was perfect.
And today, he would get to meet her.
The line pitched forward, and the Lannister brothers entered the exhibition centre. The cast and crew of Oathkeeper were sat at a string of tables on the east side; queues already forming for autographs and selfies. Tyrion pointed at the furthest table. “There she is. Margaery Tyrell.”
“And Jon Snow beside her. He looks confused.”
“Probably can’t remember what show he’s on.” They shared a laugh. The Wolf King and the White Walkers were the most boring storyline on Oathkeeper in Jaime’s opinion. “And there’s your least favourite person.”
“I’d give up my entire inheritance to see Cersei at a convention, but I don’t think that’s her.” Tyrion rolled his eyes and pointed at the table closest to them; sitting behind it was the actor who played Goldenhand. Hyle Hunt. “Oh, that least favourite person. Smith save us all, he’s terrible. I don’t know why they haven’t fired him. He can’t act. And he has no chemistry with Brienne. None.”
“You know, I think I might have heard this before. Was it the critical reviews of last season? The online fan boards?” Tyrion tapped his thumb and forefinger on his chin. “No, I think it was you during every episode.”
Jaime glared at his brother. “Don’t you have Margaery Tyrell to meet?”
His brother grinned. “That I do. Meet back here when we’re done? We can have a look at the stalls before the photo ops.” Jaime nodded. “Fare thee well, Goldenhand. Go get your maiden.”
He flipped his brother the finger; Tyrion cackling as joined the throng of people desperate to meet the beauty playing Queen Rose. Jaime had no interest in Margaery Tyrell. Or, in fact, any of the other actors from Oathkeeper signing at the convention that day. He only had eyes for Brienne Tarth. Fuck. Jaime wiped his damp hand on his historically accurate breeches and tried to recall his plan of what to say. He’d been practising it in the mirror for months ever since Tyrion had sent him a link to the con. At least he’d have some time to wait in the queue to collect himself.
But, as Jaime approached Brienne Tarth’s table, he saw that no one was waiting. Margaery Tyrell had a ticketing system attached to her signing. Even Hyle fucking Hunt had a queue of ten people. But no one wanted to talk to the woman playing the first female knight. Fuck that.
Jaime approached the desk. Up close, he could see the freckles adorning her cheeks in a way that an HD television could never represent; the white scar above her lip that they covered with make-up. And when she lifted her head, bemusement crossing her features at his presence, he realised that Brienne’s eyes really were that blue. Fuck.
“Hello,” she greeted, and Jaime lost all power of thought and speech. “Would you like an autograph?”
He wet his top lip, struggling for the words. All he could think was blue. “Yes,” he managed to get out. “Yes, I would.”
Jaime handed her assistant a twenty dragon note. He’d intended to get the scabbard signed, but instead, he looked at the array of stills in front of Brienne. All were group shots; some of the cast, two of her and Hyle. None of Lady Alysanne. He frowned. “Do you have any stills of just you?”
This time it was Brienne’s turn to lose the power of speech. She glanced at the photographs in front of her, muttering to herself, “No one really—” before cutting off her sentence and turning to her assistant. “Podrick, do we have those stills from last season?”
“I think so; let me check.”
Podrick, good lad that he was, produced a slim stack of production shots of Lady Alysanne: one at Queen Rose’s wedding, and one in her blue armour; a gift from Goldenhand. Jaime chose the armoured picture. Brienne beamed, and warmth spread through him at the sight of her smile. “That’s my favourite, too. What’s your name?”
“Jaime.”
Brienne laughed, immediately clamping her hand over her mouth as she did so. Her blue eyes widened; her hand resting upon his wrist in a gentle touch. “I am so sorry; I didn’t mean to–it’s just, you’re dressed as Goldenhand, and canonically, Goldenhand’s name was—”
“Jaime Lannister, I know.” He grinned, staring down more than once at Brienne’s hand on his wrist. “I’m named after him. And you’re named after the Blue Knight.”
At that, Brienne retreated, leaning backwards in her seat. “I’ve never said that in any interviews.”
“You didn’t need to. I know my history. Better than the Oathkeeper producers that’s for sure.”
Brienne snorted, betraying her own opinion, but quickly composed herself as she scribbled on the still of Lady Alysanne. She handed Jaime his autograph. “I really like your cosplay, Jaime.”
“And I really like you—” Fuck, Jaime, don’t be weird. “—your portrayal of Lady Alysanne. She’s my favourite character.”
Behind him, someone cleared their throat. A couple of people had joined Brienne’s queue, now; group stills requiring Brienne’s signature clutched in their hands. Jaime nodded at Brienne and left her to continue signing. When he was out of the pit, he looked at the autograph Brienne had given and grinned.
To Ser Jaime,
You are truly a knight of the Seven Kingdoms; thank you for your bravery in approaching my table when few else would. Enjoy Season 3.
Lady Brienne of Tarth
Jaime couldn’t stop smiling, even when Tyrion returned clutching his own autograph.
