What do you think Hiccup the younger's relationship is like with his niece and nephew, Zephyr and Nuffink? He lowkey looks like one of those fun uncle who lets the kids get away with alot of things. Also Zeph and Nuff are going to be so confused that their dad and uncle share the same first name lol 😂
Younger ADORES those kids. And he comes in a package of three, so Elder's kids not only get Uncle Hiccup, they also get Uncle Fish and Aunt Cami <3
Tumblr media
They spoil those kids. Little Fish loves to take them on walks and naps and the kids pick up the bad habit of ankle-biting from their dear aunt Camicazi <3 And Minicup definitely lets them get away with a lot of things, using the royalty card to justify it, of course
He'll teach them dragonese, too, because these kids get to grow up around dragons!
Tumblr media
The kids are certainly confused as to why Hiccup and Hiccup share the same name, but they call Elder "dad" anyway so it's not too life changing, lmao. If anything they're going to be mixing up the Fishlegses names! Probably have to call one "uncle Fish" and the other "uncle Legs", lmao!

Sometimes I think about how bittersweet it must have been for Zuko to see the reunion between Sokka, Katara, and their dad given what his own relationship with his father and younger sister is like.

tìloho [English] n. surprise
Anonymous Request: “Hi! Love your stuff :) Can you do one where it’s everyone’s reaction after they find out that neteyam & y/n are bonded/a couple?”
Adult Neteyam and Y/N, a little known member of the Metkayina clan, announce their bond - to almost everyone’s surprise.
1,248 words
His mother was the only one who wasn’t surprised, because she was the only one who had been paying attention. Neteyam had not been focused lately. He had been returning empty handed from hunts, missing family meals, neglecting his siblings, and generally being more secretive than he typically was.
She knew exactly what it meant, but she hadn’t known who was the cause of it, until today. Neytiri had considered carefully whether she should be angry with Neteyam, when he finally revealed the truth to them... and decided against it. If her son could find happiness here, with the Metkayina, there was no reason for her to deprive him of that.
Neteyam arrived to his family’s pod, hand in hand with Y/N, both looking sheepish but unable to hide their smiles.
“Mom, Dad...” Neteyam said as they walked through the entrance.
“Y/N,” Neytiri said, stepping forward with arms open to the girl, who was shocked that Neytiri knew her name - but Neytiri was observant, and made it a point to remember everything and everyone. This girl was not the daughter of a chief, or a healer, but the daughter of a fisherman; in the ranking of the tribe, she was inconsequential - but Neytiri knew that everyone had value, importance, and a place at the table. Neytiri had seen her. one or twice, and remembered the way Neteyam smiled at her when they first met, and how the girl had blushed at his grin. “Welcome,” Neytiri said.
Jake looked up from where he sat, confusion plain as day on his face.
“Thank you,” Y/N replied, her voice quiet, and she touched her fingers to her forehead, and then lowered them.
Neytiri returned the gesture, as her husband stood up to join his family.
“Y/N, it was?” Jake said. He had never seen this girl in his life, and here she was, holding his eldest’s hand and earning a sign of respect from his wife - which was not an easy thing to do.
“Yes,” the girl replied.
She certainly was pretty, if not a little shy, but he couldn’t miss the look on his son’s face. His boy was beaming with pride, gripping this poor girl’s hand so tight that it had to hurt.
“We are mated. Before Ewya,” Neteyam said finally.
Jake whistled. He was a little surprised that Neteyam hadn’t told him before but then again, Neteyam was very private. He wouldn’t have made this decision lightly, and Jake couldn’t help but consider that the fact that he was no longer Olo'eyktan had taken some pressure off of his son when it came to finding a mate; it had allowed him to find someone he truly loved, and make that choice freely.
Neytiri embraced her son, and Jake followed suit. “Welcome to the family, kid,” Jake said to Y/N. “Good luck.”
--
Neteyam’s siblings were next.
“You... you what?” Lo’ak asked when Neteyam told them.
Neteyam tried not to roll his eyes, and Y/N squeezed his hand.
She was even more nervous than he was. For weeks, they had practically snuck around. Neteyam wanted to escape the prying eyes of his family, and Y/N was too nervous to meet them. Who was she, to suppose she could secure for herself the daughter of Taruk Makto? What made her special enough to think she could be deserving of his love?
But whether or not she deserved it, she had it - and she had it for the rest of their lives, as they had pledged themselves before Ewya just the night before.
“I - holy shit!” Lo’ak exclaimed, and Y/N winced. She wasn’t sure quite yet whether he was excited, or angry - not until he threw his arms around the both of them.
“I mean, I have enough sisters already, so I guess one more is fine,” Lo’ak said with a smile. “Welcome to the family!”
--
Kiri and Tuk were thrilled, and a little confused at why Neteyam had hidden Y/N from them for so long - they loved her instantly.
“Oh, you’re beautiful,” Tuk said with the innocence of a child, and Y/N bent down to her level.
“I have been begging your brother to let me meet you,” Y/N said with a soft smile. “He has been keeping me all to himself. Isn’t that selfish?”
Y/N was a naturally shy and cautious person by nature, but had such a deep love for children, that she had been eager to meet Tuk since the moment she’d met Neteyam.
Tuk giggled, and reached up to touch Y/N’s soft hair. She kept it unbraided, and it was usually a little wild. “Your hair is so pretty.”
In turn, Y/N reached for one of Tuk’s braids. “Maybe you can show me how to do these lovely braids sometime, yes?”
Tuk nodded, and with another smile, Y/N stood up.
“I knew something was going on,” Kiri said with a huff. “I can’t believe you didn’t tell any of us!”
“I am sorry, Kiri. I wanted... one thing, for myself. Just once,” Neteyam said, and Kiri’s eyes softened.
“Mom knew, though, didn’t she?”
Neteyam laughed. “Is there anything mom doesn’t miss?”
--
Later, the two sat on the beach, the water up to their waists, finally alone after telling their families.
“That went... much better than I thought,” Neteyam said.
Y/N smiled, leaning her head on his shoulder. “Your family loves you very deeply, and they can see that you’re happy. Though, why I make you happy, I still don’t know.”
Neteyam reached down, turning her face up to meet his. “No more of this talk, Y/N. You are mine now, and you must see yourself how I see you.”
Y/N winced. “And, how do you see me?”
Neteyam smiled, ready to unleash a monologue on his poor mate. “The moment I first saw you, I thought you were the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen. Never have I seen such delicate features, such full lips, wide eyes, and soft hair. I was stunned by you, I felt as if I could not breathe, and I knew I had to have you. I knew the moment I saw you, I would make you mine. When I finally worked up the courage to speak to you, your voice was as delicate and soft as your face.
“You were so nervous, and it almost made me... made me want to cry, how scared you were. It made me want to protect you, and I will protect you until I die, Y/N.
“You are the smartest woman I have ever met, and you are endlessly kind and thoughtful. You are so skilled in everything you try, it amazes me how fast you can learn anything you want to.
“I am in awe of you. Ewya has blessed me beyond measure, beyond what I deserve, to deliver me a mate such as you.”
Y/N was tearing up by the end, and even though she knew Neteyam loved her, she had never felt it so deeply before.
“I knew my family would have to accept you, because they could see plainly how deeply I love you. I’m just surprised at how quickly the acceptance happened, is all,” Neteyam said, and leaned over to kiss his mate on her soft temple.
“I love you, Neteyam,” she said, wrapping her arms around him.
He felt like the luckiest man on the planet - and he was.

“We announce the birth of a healthy girl…Princess Y/N!” Chief Arnook announced as the crowd cheered for their new princes alongside Yue. What the crowd didn't know was the difficulties of even keeping her a healthy princess. Once the baby was born, she couldn't stop wailing and crying. It was like every bone of her body was in pain. All the medical help didn't do anything, they didnt know why the Chief’s daughter was in so much pain. Yagoda suggests going to the Spirit Oasis, it's their only chance. Chief Arnook sweats as well as his wife, as if they're bound to be unlucky for every life they give. The royal parents of this princess used the same technique as they did with their previous daughter. Dipping her in the Spirit Oasis while praying for her life to the moon spirit, the color of the girl's hair turned from brown to a graceful white. Silent cheers and cries as they held their newest child close to them, happy the moon spirit gave another one of their daughters a second chance.

“Stop touching the edge of your coat” My mother instructed as she pulled my hand from the cuffs. I whined but one stern look from my mother stopped me. I huffed as I stood up straight leaning more so to my sister, Yue who took my hand graciously. In books and stories becoming a princess sounds like a dream. You have money, attention and you could do whatever you want. Everything is accurate except the last one, I couldn't do everything I wanted. I had to be restrained to the guards and my parents eye, even Yue doesnt get this treatment as much as I do. However I forgot to mention how I even got into strict confinement in the first place. “What are you doing?” My father grabbed my hand making the water orb splash at both of our feet. “She's a water bender…” My mom whispered as my dad's eyes widened. “Y/N…” He spoke softly as he held both of my shoulders in a kindly manner. “Do not water bend, it's not allowed for people like you”. I furrowed my eyebrows as I looked at him confused. He sighed as he took my hand. “Y/N, where we live only men are allowed to use waterbending, that's their job…to protect” My father shows me to the boys training their bending. “Especially people like you and your sister, you're both very important to this nation”. I didn't listen, it's not like I didn't understand what he was saying, I just didnt understand why it had to be like this. I zoned off as I saw the male benders. Envying that they can use their gift while I couldn't use mine. I snapped out of my zoned out space with a little pinch given by my sister. I flinched lightly as she slightly giggled earning a hush from our mother. I don't understand us needing to come to these royalty meetings, neither Yue and I are close to 16. Well she is closer to 16 by what? 6 years? That's still a whole 6 years till 16! I'm only younger than Yue by a year, however people treat me like a polar bear dog, cooing at me constantly for doing the littlest task while Yue gets treated so much more maturely. Some might say I have it easier but honestly I just feel dumb. Once the meeting ended we respectfully bowed and got up following our father. I held back my yawn as I saw the now night sky, looking how beautiful the moon is. ҉ ☾ I woke up in the middle of the night, groaning as I looked at the moon. I brush through my tangled hair with my hand while walking outside near the river. Is anyone there? I internally thought as I scavenged the area to see if there were any witnesses. I double checked and took a deep breath. Opening my eyes I hold the water orb, feeling the calming air around me. “You're going to get caught if you keep doing that”. I yelped and dropped my water orb. I turn around immediately with widened eyes meeting Yue. “Oh Yue” I sigh in relief as she glared at me. “You could've gotten caught by the guards and gotten in more trouble then you already have”. I sigh in understanding but also in annoyance. This isn't the first time I have snuck out to try out waterbending. Some days I have been caught but some days I haven't. “I'm going back to bed” I sigh with my head down “Are you?” “Yes, I am” Yue giggled as she patted me on the back. “I believe you can use it one day Y/N, I really you” She whispered sweetly as I nodded. “Thank you”

The similiar struggles of Merida & Hiccup
Just my two cents because I love talking these movies. I find it interesting how both Merida and Hiccup share similiar conflicts/themes in their movies. They both feel pressured to become leader figures by their parents, while also stubbornly sticking to their own ideals. Merida is trained by her strict mom to become the perfect princess, and is also expected to carry out her duties through marriage. Hiccup in HTTYD2 is expected to become the next chief by his dad while Hiccup himself feels it's not for him and he can't meet the expectations. They both have other dreams and yearn to keep their freedoms. Merida wants to live her life like she wants to, and Hiccup wants to keep exploring and spreading his findings about dragons. They also have parents that at some point have refused to listen to them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They also act in defiance to their families in order to maintain their own ideals and freedoms, wanting to do things their way instead of traditions. Merida argues against her mom, breaks the clan traditions by shooting for her own hand, and asks the witch for help to "change her mom" to agree to Merida's views. This ends up endangering her mother and the peace between the clans. Hiccup in turn refuses to listen to his parents about Drago, both who know him much better than Hiccup. Because Hiccup keeps believing anyone can change, that if he's just given the chance he can make it happen and everyone else is just hindering him in their warmongering blindness. Hiccup believes so strongly in his position as the pacifist peacemaker that he doesn't budge until it's too late. Neither Merida nor Hiccup really stops to think of the possible consiquences of their actions, they only see the positive outcomes. They feel like they're not being listened to, but they also don't listen to others either.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So they both try to escape the expectations and restrictions put on them by actively defying and being stubborn about it, that it ends up endangering everyone. The main difference is, that while Merida gets a second change and has everything fixed in the end, Hiccup ends up paying the heavy price for his mistakes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Merida's actions get her mom turned into a bear and almost loses her completely. In the end when all seems lost Merida finally admits her fault aloud and to herself, owning up to her mistakes. Before that she also admits her careless actions against the clans and is ready to accept her duties as the princess. Merida finally sees the bigger picture outside her own point of view, that she's in a position where she simply can't think only about herself. She manages to reverse the spell and fix her relationship with her mom, who has also come to see the error in her own ways, thus ending things perfect.
Hiccup's mistakes sadly don't get as happy resolve as his stubborness ultimately ends up getting his dad killed. It's the cruel wake up call to Hiccup, how some people are simply beyond help and fighting them is the only way. It's what his dad had tried to tell him throughout the movie. Had he listened to his parents, things might have ended better, and he has to carry this guilt with him probably his whole life. Drago is the real villain and culprit, but Hiccup did play a part in how everything turned out. His part is more nuanced than Merida's, who is more clearly at fault in Brave along with her mom. After Stoick's death, Hiccup has no choice but to face the reality, own to his mistakes by stopping Drago and accept his duty as the chief. It was a harsh lesson for him, that sometimes you just can't force things to go your way, but maybe it was one he needed before becoming the leader for his tribe. Just like Merida needed to face hers to fix everything around her and correct her ways.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So yeah, like said I find it interesting how Merida and Hiccup's stories and their character growths follow similiar themes. I'm glad Merida got her happy ending, but damn now I really want to give Hiccup a hug! ;u;

Blood of my Blood pt.1
Pairing- Sully family x sully!reader
Summary- There is so much you would do for your family even at a young age but there is one thing you just couldn't do so you do the only thing you find reasonable you run.
A/N- so this is lowkey just a prologue but i hope you guys like it 🤭
Pt.1 Pt.2 Pt.3 Pt.4
Tumblr media
Your mother, Neytiri sat you down and Jake, your father, held a contemplating expression on his face. ''Hi mama, dad.'' You said as your missing tooth smiled up at them. ''Y/N we have something to tell you.'' Jake began and you peered at him with big eyes looking up at him with childlike gleam in them. ''We have made an agreement with the Kekunan clan, you know the tribe we visited last week and you and Neteyam played tag with the chief's son Entu.'' Jake said and you shook your head. ''Yeah he kept hitting me and he played with and injured animal it was really mean.'' You say and Neytiri looks upset and she sees your thoughts of the boy.
''What about it dad?'' You say looking at him again as he takes a deep breath in. ''You and Entu are betrothed when you become one of the people you shall be his mate.'' Neytiri finished and all the joy you felt seeped from your body and into the earth. ''W-what do you mean mom?'' you knew what she meant, but you prayed to Eywa that it wasn't what you thought. ''You and Entu with be mates in a few years it is done daughter be happy.'' she smiled and you did the same getting up and running to Neteyam.
You lived normally existing as if the news your parents just delivered to you didn;t fill you with despair. Though, it was only one day you could see that Entu would be cruel, cruel to you, cruel to the clan. You couldn't subject yourself to this, you would do anything for your family even at your young age but this is one thing that you couldn't and wouldn't do.
It was late you fought the sleep that simmered in your mind and waited till you heard your dads loud snoring. Slowly crouching out of your cot grabbing a bag you packed a few days ago its intended use was for a get together at another clan but it would do for getting away. You opened a window flap and stepped onto the grassy earth that surrounded your home. You walk to the Hallelujah mountains, you knew it was too early for your Iknimaya but you had to get away somehow.
You stepped into the pit, all of them were awake skin glowing and bright eyes peered into your soul. They moved as if upset by your presence, they would attack you if they wanted you to be their rider but none attacked. But one didn't move.
He was small, wings looked weak, but his beak was strong enough to crush a grown Na'vi skull as he hissed at you getting in attack mode. 'Better than nothing." You whisper before you hiss back at him loudly as he stood up on his short legs. Getting your rope you wrap it around his beck jumping at him onto his back.
He threw himself on his back making you gasp. Grabbing your queue quickly connecting it with his, completing tsaheylu he flew off the rock and then your eyes widened as you though, ''Slow, slow.'' He balanced in the wind as he went forward at a slow pace.
Your back straightened as you reached behind you grabbing the bag that managed to stay in you. Opening it you grab a leaf scroll, unrolling it having the directions to a clan. ''Mangkwan Clan known for letting people in hm.'' You whisper and the Khal, that's what you named him, chirped. ''You how where it's at.'' He chirped twice in response and you just trusted him as he turned left and farther from your old home.
It was a week's journey, you felt yourself going hungry but you held hope when Khal stopped his flapping wings in front of a hometree very familiar to yours but with key differences. A blow of a horn took you from your amazement as many surrounded you so worried, some excited, two of three hissed at you. But then a man and a woman stepped between the swarm of Na'vi they must be the Olo'eyktan and Tsahik as everyone bowed their heads in respect.
The woman had goddess braids that stopped at her hips with intricate gems and jewels in it, her long skirt went up at the sides and shined with the amount of jewls that went through it, and a tattoo that started at her wrist and wrapped all the way up to her neck. Her wide eyes peered at you, studying your face and body language.
The man stood more protective than curious like the woman. He has a huge scar on his left upper arm, he has huge ear gauges, he had a head dress that shined like a million diamonds, truly the brightest thing you've ever seen that sat in his long dreads.
They stopped in front of you and you quickly bowed your head and the woman smiled before touching your bicep with her tattooed hand, making you flinch at the touch. ''Child please tell me why you've come, one of you put this young ladies ikran with the other.'' She spoke to the guards around you as she wrapped her larger arms around your smaller filling your body with warmth. ''May I please stay here I can pull my weight, I can hunt, paint, sing, weave anything but can I please-''
''Shush child, tell me your name and why you seek to live here. Is something wrong?" Her eyes looked bug full of wonder and concern for the young girl in front of her.
"My name is Y/N te Suli Neytiri'ite." You whisper looking down the woman's back straightened as she looks at the man who walked behind you, his eyebrows furrowed even more. "Y/N why have you come here?" The woman crouched to your height. "Um," you debated telling her the truth would she send you back.
"Um, well back home I'm betrothed to someone, someone I can't just can't be mates with. He is cruel, and my parents just don't see it." You look at the ground in shame.
The two adults looked at each other and tye man had a much softer look on his face now as the woman looked uo waiting for his final answer on the whole thing. He tilted his head down and she smiled. "Well you shall stay here with us." She said and you looked at the two and smiled. "My name is Peyral and his name is Kamun."
-6 years later-
Jake held a picture in his hand and then the sound of a leaf crunching pulled him from his thoughts quickly flipping the picture over not to show the image. "Ma Jake." Neytiri spoke and he rubbed his eyes. "Hey baby." He said and Neytiri looked puzzled. "What is wrong?" She asked and he only shaked his head opening a drawer to put the picture up but ahe snatched it just in time. Her face softened as she smiled, caressing the picture, it was of you jumping at your parents after your first time swimming and Neytiri finally figured out how a polaroid works.
She gulped and placed the picture in the drawer and grabbed his hand dragging him into the meeting with Mo'at.
"Ah JakeSully, Daughter.* She said bowing her head formally greeting them.
"Mother." Neytiri responded as she and Jake bowed their heads.
Sitting down around an unlit fire pit. "What have we come to talk about?" Jake asked and Mo'at lifted her head. "Yes, well some clans are threatening to battle over a few things." She said to the two and Neytiri's eyes widened as she now sat up straight as did Jake. "What should we do?" Neytiri asked Jake who ran over ideas in his brain. "You meet with them, you talk and you compromise." Mo'at blurted out and they looked over at her.
"Meet, Talk and compromise." Jake repeated and Mo'at shook her head up and down slowly. "Yes and I suggest you go to the Mangkwan Clan last." She said, looking off to the side. The two of them look at her curiously. "There may be something there for you, all of you." She said before blinking multiple times as Neytiri helped her up.
Neytiri and Jake stepped out of the tent and Neytiri went in her way as Jake did. But what Mo'at said simmered in his thoughts. What did she mean there's something there for him? For all of his family? He had no idea.
But he would soon find out.

Hi, I wanted to say first off I love your analysis on films and storytelling! Second, I'm curious on what your thoughts are on the movie Moana?
Thank you!
I like Moana. I think it’s a really fun movie and it’s enjoyable to watch over and over again. The main character wants something relatable, she’s flawed, and she’s believable. The visuals are probably what keep people coming back, because Disney flexed so hard with animating the water and the sand and the glowing monsters.
Tumblr media
I will say, there are some pacing moments I think aren’t great, some filler stuff in the movie that I don’t think add anything to it. Like, for example, Pua. Pua doesn’t add anything to the movie. You could take him out and lose nothing. Also, the entire scene with the Kakamora.
Tumblr media
They are appealing and the giant-boat thing is interesting, but that whole sequence doesn’t really tell us anything about the characters or the world or the story that we don’t already know. It’s just an action sequence. In it, you learn: Moana is capable and committed to keeping the Heart safe, Maui is capable but a show-off, and there are monsters that are drawn to the heart. You already knew all that stuff without that scene. See what I mean?
But that doesn’t mean the movie is bad. It’s just not airtight, and that’s okay, because it still gets it’s point across.
I think the Main Idea of the movie is: “Who you truly are is a combination of where you’ve been and where you choose to go next.” Something like that.
Moana has to pick who she’s going to be and what she’s going to do from the first moment we see her.
Tumblr media
She’s already a character “born with” some traits that the other characters don’t have: she likes to explore and she’s not as afraid of the ocean and it’s dangers as everyone else. You could say she “inherits” those traits from “where she’s been;” her tribe and their Voyager Heritage.
Tumblr media
So while Moana is figuring out how “where she comes from/where she’s been” applies to “who she’ll choose to be now,” you have other characters doing the same. Her grandmother is an example of “getting to make that choice regardless of what your community is doing; you don’t have to be a product of your environment.” Meanwhile, her mom is just a “product of her environment.” And her dad had the same fearlessness Moana has, once, but after something bad happened in his past (where he’s been) he lets that bad thing inform who he chooses to be for the rest of his life: the chief that won’t take chances.
Tumblr media
Then meanwhile, Maui is letting his origins define who he chooses to be. He has to be a hero, and earn everybody’s love, because he came into the world Unloved. Ironically, the gods and the ocean helped him. But their love isn’t enough for him.
Tumblr media
See, just like Moana’s dad, Maui has a choice. He can look at the parts of his past that are good, (the ocean chose me/I’m descended from voyagers) and choose to move forward based on that, OR, he can look at the parts of his past that are bad (my own parents thought I was worthless/being a voyager killed my best friend) and choose to move forward based on that. And how you move forward, combined with where you’ve been, is what the movie says your “identity” is.
Tumblr media
I mean, think about Tamatoa, obviously. His song describes how he didn’t always used to be a living-legend monster. But now he finds his identity in the literal treasure he piles on top of himself, like trophies of conquest. Then think about Te Fiti. She’s stolen from, and misused, and lets that fact of her history turn her into a monster. A monster who can’t be calmed down enough to be transformed until Moana reminds her of “who she is.”
Tumblr media
And by the end of it, Moana ultimately decides who she’s going to be, based on the things that are true about her. Is she a powerful goddess or demigod, like Maui? No. Is she a good-enough navigator to get past Te Ka on her own? No. Is she bulletproof because the Ocean chose her? No. Does she want to be chief of her island and stay there forever? No. All of those things are true. But, what’s also true is that she wants to do something to help save the world, she does love her island at the same time as she loves the sea, and she’s willing and able to keep trying even after she fails. So she’s going to act on those things that are also true.
Tumblr media
Same thing with Maui. He’s made mistakes and he’s ruined things, including his own reputation, and he’s finding his identity in his powers, which get jeopardized. But by willingly sacrificing those things, he re-defines what his identity is. “Maui” is not a hero who has the power to do anything for mortals, and deserves their adoration. “Maui” is a good guy who’s going to keep trying to be self-sacrificial even after he makes mistakes.
Tumblr media
There’s other elements in it too, that I think deserve analysis. I mean, the movie is saying you have inherent worth. You have an identity, objectively, regardless of what you choose for yourself. Hei Hei is funny but he’s a prime example of what the movie is saying about that. He’s a stupid rooster who seems completely useless, but by the end he shows that he was worth taking along.
Tumblr media
Also, when Moana calms Te Ka, she does say “who you truly are.” And all the problems with her village stem from the fact that they don’t know, or have repressed, a part of their history and cultural identity. Her dad is ignoring something that is true about himself: he has Voyager in his nature. So the idea in the movie is that you can choose the right identity, one that lines up with “who you truly are, whether you like it or not,” or you can choose the wrong identity. What puzzles me is how “the gods” and “the ocean” fit into all of that.
I don’t love that Moana insists that the gods “don’t make you Maui. You do.” Truth of the matter is, Maui would be dead if not for the gods—never mind his powers. So in one sense, he would not have anything he has without them, including his life. Additionally, Moana would not be Moana without the ocean. She wouldn’t have the Heart of Te Fiti. She wouldn’t have found Maui in the first place, because she sucked at navigating. She wouldn’t have made it to Te Fiti if not for supernatural help. So what Moana should have said, to be accurate, is, “The gods made you Maui, and you can choose to agree with them or live a lie.”
Of course, the movie doesn’t set Moana herself up like that. She’s not dependent on the gods or the ocean for her very existence, like Maui was. But you see what I’m saying. There’s this tension between what you can choose, and who gets to decide what’s right to choose. Tamatoa probably wasn’t right to choose to be a grandma-eating, mortal-killing monster, but that’s what he chose to identify as. Te Fiti definitely wasn’t right to choose to try and melt everyone who came near her; she’s supposed to be a goddess of life, not death. That’s her “right” identity.
But Moana? Of course the most satisfying choice for her was “be the hero and keep on trying.” But the movie does set up the grandmother’s ghost, there to lead her home in case she wants to give up. And it sets that up as if it would be an okay-thing to do. Not necessarily the wrong thing—even though, if she had chosen to give up and go home, she would essentially be exactly like her father. So why is it hinted that the Chief was wrong to want to burn the voyager boats, hide from the rest of the world, and act on fear…but if Moana wants to give up, that’s okay? Because she tried? The Chief tried to be brave and be like Moana, too, and someone died because of it.
So I think some of that portion of the narrative is sloppily handled. It’s not smart to have both ideas in your movie: “You are meant for something” AND “you can choose who you want to be, and whatever you choose is what you’re meant for.” If not for Moana herself, that last part, in bold, wouldn’t be in there presenting a problem. But that scene where the Grandmother is willing to let her choose the wrong identity, yet it’s not portrayed as the “wrong” identity, messes it up.
The idea presented by all the other characters (Maui, Grandma, Te Fiti) is, “you have an identity and worth that is assigned to you by something bigger than yourself. You can either agree with it, or suppress it, live a lie, and try to find identity/worth in something else.” But Moana’s grandmother, gently allowing her to give up and acting like that’s okay, sort of ruins it.
But I’ll dive into that more another day, if you’re interested.

okay done with homework time for more avatar oc lore!!!!
- avatar lusa’s name means ‘midnight’. you’ll never guess what time she was born at
- being from the southern water tribe, which has always been a bit more lax on letting women learn waterbending, she did learn how to fight. sort of. mostly defensive moves, though
- she was brought to the northern water tribe to learn healing
- her healing teacher was a woman named panninguaq, the chief’s eldest daughter
- the chief of the tribe also had twin sons, paruk and panuk
- the twins have a different mom. panninguaq’s mother gave birth to her and then was unable to conceive again. the tribe elders insisted the chief take another wife in order to produce a male heir. they rejoiced when she had two
- panuk is close with his older sister, paruk is not. paruk is the eldest by a few minutes, making him the heir. panuk and panninguaq both feel shirked by him, and so their relationship with him is best described as frosty. lol
- paruk is a decent guy though, and does his best to live up to his duties to the tribe. lusa finds this very admirable, hence why she started falling for him
- to learn earthbending, she was sent to ba sing se to live with the royals while she trained
- lusa kinda sucked at bending tbh. she found it really difficult and was also very hard on herself
- prince haoyu, a nonbender, helped her with her overall confidence, and also was always there to take her mind off bending with something intellectual, like reading or pai sho
- and oopsies he fell in love with her too
- lusa headed to the fire nation to learn firebending from the crown princess, nyzah
- hearing about the avatar’s… warm welcome in the other nations, the firelord’s only instruction to his daughter was: don’t fall in love with her
- nyzah, two weeks later: dad i fell in love with the avatar
- anyway lol
- lusa heads off to the eastern air temple to learn airbending. she meets with chesa, who is one of the youngest spiritual gurus the air nation has seen
- chesa sees that crooked avatar grin and knows she’s done for
- they’re all very funny to me
- so yeah that’s how avatar lusa got her politically complicated polycule
- as for the future
- lusa ends up officially marrying 3/4 of her partners
- people are like ‘can she do that?’ ‘i mean she’s the avatar i guess she can do what she wants’
- the only one she doesn’t marry is nyzah, simply due to the fact that nyzah is an only child and therefore must produce an heir for her country
- nyzah marries a very chill fire nation guy who’s a nice person and a good father, and they remain very friendly even if there’s no romantic love between them
- fun fact: asami and mako and bolin’s mothers can both trace their lineage back to firelord nyzah
- nyzah had a son who became the next firelord, and two younger daughters. one daughter is an ancestor of naoki, one daughter is an ancestor of yasuko
- not that this matters at all, or that they’d ever be able to trace their ancestry back that far. this is like ~1000 years before canon
- but it’s fun
- as for paruk and haoyu’s lines
- lusa did have a few kids
- but all were barred from the lines of succession because there was no accurate way to confirm who their father was. and no royalty was gonna put someone on the throne who they weren’t absolutely sure was supposed to be there
- so paruk’s siblings did in fact sort of get to rule, because one of their heirs got the throne after he died. who’s laughing now
- and haoyu had a younger brother whose kid took the throne. he and his brother were closer though, so he wasn’t nearly as bothered lol
overall though they all lived pretty chill and happy lives
so there you have it 👍

KNB Characters in ATLA
Okay pretend this is like, when the 100-year war is about to start, so the Air Nomads are still around.
Kuroko: Non-bender from the Southern Water Tribe. He's really determined about stopping the Fire Nation and learns how to use long range weapons that are easy to carry. I really want to say Boomerang.
Kagami: FIRE-BENDER there is literally no other option. He's actually the son of an Fire Nation soldier and Earth Kingdom woman and was supposed to be from the colonies but his parents died, and he got adopted by Alex, who's an Air Nomad.
Kise: Waterbender from the Northern Water Tribe. He's not a prince but he's definitely nobility. He's mastered pretty much every form of sub-bending for waterbending; except the plant manipulation and blood-bending.
Midorima: Earthbender, like, what else? He's the son of an Earth Kingdom nobleman who's ruling a Fire Nation colony, therefore he's sort of friends with Fire Nation royalty.
Aomine: Waterbender from the Southern Water Tribe. His mom is chief and he's a bit of spoilt brat. He's the best bender they have and he's itching for adventure outside of their home to really test out his waterbending skills. He joins Kuroko when Kuroko heads out to check wtf is going on with the Fire Nation recently.
Momoi: Non-bender scholar, trained in hand-to-hand. Though she isn't a bender, she observed the waterbender healers and figured out how to do chi-blocking. She joins Aomine and Kuroko when they head out to ensure they don't do anything extremely stupid and die at sea.
Murasakibara: Airbender who sticks to the the Air Temple he was born in. Hella chill, very mellow, he's an expert in pulling pranks whenever he's bored and very good at baking pies.
Akashi: Prince of the Fire Nation, Firebender. He's mastered lightning-bending and is extremely obedient to his dad. He used to be friends with kids from the other nation(*ahem* GoM) when he was around 10 but his dad cut off all connection because he was, ya know, planning on starting the 100-year war.
Haizaki: Waterbender from the Northern Water Tribe. He's not a noble and is highly competitive with Kise, whom he can never defeat. Their training was very similar and they're both some of the best benders but Haizaki is heavily focused on combat and never even attempts healing(which is why he can't reach Kise's level, Kise figured out newer techniques because of the healing thing).
Kiyoshi: THE AVATAR!!! No it's not just because his name sounds like 'Kyoshi'. He's from an Earth Kingdom town and knows he's the Avatar pretty early but he doesn't make a big deal about it. Then the Fire Nation starts decimating the Air Nomads and RIko urges him to start learning. Kiyoshi is honestly the only person who can be trusted with this amount of power and is closest in temperament to Aang. He's froma humble background and just wants to ensure everyone gets to live peacefully.
Riko: Non-bender who's a student, she learned about all sorts of bending styles out of curiosity and even trained with a sword on her own time with her dad. She's the one who plotted the training regimen for Kiyoshi's Avatar training.
Hyuuga: A Fire Nation, non-bender soldier who Kiyoshi and Riko run into on their travels to find a firebending teacher. Hyuuga is getting very suspicious about his new orders about conquering Earth Kingdom territories, but is initially reluctant to defy. But then he sees Kiyoshi and Riko, and the three get into some trouble and Hyuuga decides to join the two, having realized that the Fire Nation is getting ready for an all-out-war against the Air Nomads.
Himuro: He's the illegitimate child of a Northern Water Tribe noblewoman. She had met a Fire Nation soldier and the two had an affair. She had Himuro but abandoned him, and he was taken away by sailors to be raised in the Earth Kingdom. Himuro grew up on the streets and on pirate ships, with only a betrothal necklace from his mom to know of his heritage which was given by the soldier. He hates the water tribe for abandoning him, and is later taken in by Alex. So he sorta grows up with Alex and he later realizes Kagami's dad is actually also his dad, and that his dad was chased away from the NWT and began another life with Kagami's mom.
Nijimura: Earthbender who's from a downtrodden background. His dad works in crystal mines but is growing weaker. Nijimura had to take over his dad's work and while mining, he became an expert in bending crystals and other non-generic forms of earth.

They climb over a few large spirit vines to discover they’re in Little Wolf Cove, a mostly Water Tribe residency before Harmonic Convergence took it out. Now, just another dead zone. Chief Sokka’s statue greets them as they enter, cracked and tilted by the vines wrapped around it.
Beifong moves to get a closer look. Mako expands the fireball in his hand to brighten their surroundings. She scoffs at the sight of it. “He’d be begging Korra to free it from the vines. Or, have Raiko commission another one,” she tells him. Grief briefly haunts her as she stares up at him. “If he were here, anyway,” she adds before moving on.
Mako takes a moment to look at it alone as Beifong resumes her search. The boomerang once in his hand now lays in the dirt, small vines clinging to it. He thinks he remembers seeing him once as a kid. During a parade, honoring some Water Tribe holiday. Mako waves. Chief Sokka waves back. Dad—with Bolin up on his shoulders—ruffles his hair when he looks up at him, prideful. Mom laughs.
It was yesterday…

REUNION
PART 2: The Map Room
Tumblr media
Late is the hour when a Warrior of Light finds his way to my study.
Good evening Ren, G'raha said while placing down his books on the desk already wondering what the WoL might be up to.
Evenin' G'raha. Quite late for studying ?
Could say the same about you, a cheeky laugh escaped G'raha's mouth. I ran into Erenville on my way here. He mentioned he saw you at Thaliak's Arcade all alone and was worried about you. So I will ask: are you alright? Lately you have been a bit absent and reserved.
Deep sigh
Ren let out a deep sigh when he heard G'raha say this. As if these words were just the drop that were needed to crack and shatter into pieces.
No G'raha, I'm not okay. But I'm going to change that.
Tumblr media
By staring at the world map ?
Hahaha, cheeky catboy, Ren could not help grinning.
Come on, you know you can tell me Ren. What is suddenly so interesting about this map ?
Dalmasca.
Dalmasca?
But, but ... Thats so far away from here and not really easy to reach. Not to mention that it might or might not be a war ravaged land. If I recall correct then The Garlean Empire also invaded the Kingdom of Dalmasca and by extend also your homeland, the Skatay Range.
While G'raha meant well, and only mentioned this in scholarly excitement, it made Ren's stomach turn upside down. All he kept thinking was: "I should never have left, Sequoia, Mom, Dad ... my sisters, the Treehouse Club, are they safe?"
I once travelled from the Range to Kugane - no - I only travelled from the Range to Kugane. By boat. The journey across the seas is not so difficult, if the Navigator allows us safe passage. Apart from that, I know that The Range borders to the Fringes in the West, be it a small border. Travelling trough the Fringes is not a problem, I have been there not long ago. The Range might be much trickier. My other option would be sailing to Othard and going via Golmore. But that would also mean i have to cross Rava territory. Our peoples never had any trouble with each other, but I also know that neither Rava nor Veena likes intruderers in their respective lands.
So this is what you are brooding about? Going home ?
Yes.
Why ? Why now ?
Tumblr media
Oh Raha ... (silence)
Ren tried finding his composure and trying not to burst out in tears, maybe he could tell Raha his story?
I grew up like any other Viera, in a tribe, in the vast woods of the Skatay Range. My father however bears a foreign family name: Kimura. A family from Hingashi.
Wait. That's why you have so much affinity with Hingan Culture? How ? I tought that Viera tribes are generally averse against outsiders?
Yes, but according to my father we Kimuras are explorers, so being an "adventurer" is kind of in my blood. The first Kimuras wanted to leave the Range and explore more of the world outside. Tough, they did not bear that family name in those days. It is the people of Hingashi who gave these curious "rabbit people" the name Kimura. It means "from the tree village" I guess that was the best way to describe our home.
Fascinating, please continue Ren.
Yes. My father has always been a merchant working for the Kugane Markets and trade networks there. He often travelled from Kugane to Dalmasca. One day he got an offer where he had to travel to the Skatay Range for rare goods that are only made by the Greenleaf Tribe. My father succeeded in finding the tribe and ran into a woman whom he later married. My mom. She captured him and brought him back to the tribe. Our chief back in that day was relentless and ordered my father to be executed. The chief was of the opinion that my father was a traitor and spy. My mom however found this a harsh verdict. She pleaded the Council of Elders to spare his life but force my father to stay among the tribe. Her influence as the tribe healer proved useful and they decided that he could stay, on one condition. He had to keep the Kimura name, which was a punishment worse then death because with this everyone knew he was an outsider making it difficult to interact with out members of the tribe, let alone get food. But yes, long story short; they got closer to each other, married (surprsingly !) and they got three kits: Natsumi, Yumi and me.
As kits we often got bullied by the others, my sisters not so much. They were quite fierce and sort of earned the respect.
Me on the other hand ... I, always was a little bit a strange duck. At my 13th, like other kits i turned out to be boy* and was sent to live and train with the other boys. I was a failure at most things but i survived. most days i spent alone, hiding, exploring on my own, and spending time with my sister Yumi who tried to help me with archery. Our chief had lack of respecting the tradition of keeping boys and girls apart and we often trained together.
Its also at this time that i met Sequoia.
(*Viera kits have till their 13th no visible gender. )
Tumblr media
(flashback to that day)
Hey, you're Ren right ?
Go away.
Hmm, what ? you think i'm one of those bullies? Yeah, i saw them. I saw you. No one deserves that, and you look really kind and sweet Ren.
I said, go away, leave me alone ...
Sorry Ren, but can't do. You look like you could use a friend. Why don't you stand up and walk a bit with me?
Feeling that this Viera might not give up, Ren slowly gave in to his questions.
Tumblr media
I'm Sequoia by the way.
I know. You ... a-are the chief s-
Son ... yes but please, don't remind me too much of that. I rather am just Sequoia.
From this day you will come with me, okay ? I see you way too often being alone, and sad and that how a Viera should live.
Tumblr media
That day, I did not realise I just met the most wonderful person ever in my life so far.
The blink in your eyes when you tell about him, betrays your feelings for him, Ren. (G'raha could not help but giggle)
I ... how ?
Just a wild guess, but that blink in your eyes thats something; alright.
This is why I am here G'raha. I want to go home and try find my tribe, my family, my friends, Sequoia. Him most of all. There is something i must tell him.
I think your best bet would be going via The Fringes.
As G'raha said this, Ren smiled and they stared a little moment at the map again.
I'm running home to you...
Will continue in Part 3: The Fringes.

Custom Toonami Block Week 175 Rundown
The Witch from Mercury: So IMMEDIATELY after Sul’s duel with Gaston everyone goes ‘wait aren’t the suits that suck the life out of you banned because our war chief is a bloodthirsty dictator?’ and she immediately gets arrested and kicked out of school. Meanwhile Mio’s been told that she’s no longer forced to marry the school’s top pilot and her father is cutting out the middleman and just arranging a marriage for her which she’s like what 16 even for a high business monarchy style thing it seems a little early to lock that down that hard. Also just kinda wondering what the point of even playing at the ‘oh it’s whoever the best is’ if you’re just gonna immediately cut the façade whenever it’s someone you don’t want like why not just force a marriage from the start. Anyway Mio’s like ‘bitch I wanted to marry the gay girl how dare you take back your orders and give me new ones’ like she doesn’t like being told what to do but explicitly seemed a lot more chill about it when it was Sul. Gaston gets beaten by his father for losing and we allude to him being slightly less shitty than we were initially led to believe since he did send some people to clean up Mio’s garden. The bigwigs are all having a NERV-style meeting of shadowy figures and our resident obligatory Masked Gundam Character Prospera is like ‘yeah it looks and functions exactly like a Gundam but it didn’t suck her soul out so it can’t be one, right?’ and no one’s fucking buying that and also it’s a bunch of old men high on their own power so they’re just like ‘well you’re under arrest for building something that functions exactly like the thing we banned then’. Meanwhile Mio shows up, redicrecting her escape attempt to Earth to save Sul and telling her father off and basically having a badass teenage tantrum in a shareholder’s meeting, like it’s kinda cool how blatantly petty and personal her grievances are that it takes some balls to bring it up the way she does surrounded by the most important people in the world that just sentenced a masked lady to jail for technically not breaking the law. She challenges her dad to fight the Aerial and reinstate her engagement to Sul which he has absolutely no obligation to accept given idk if Corporations should really work on Klingon rules anyway and if you’re gonna take shit from him say if you win you get the whole company, go big or go home. But the group discusses that the illegal suit is pretty dope and they wanna get some more data out of it so they agree to let Sul fight to save her Gundam and her lesbian fiancée so that’s good.
Inuyasha The Final Act: Inuyasha and co. are still soaking in Kikyo’s death and Koga gets an admittedly nice sendoff where he gets to leave on good terms with Kagome as well as get enough out of a rise out of Inuyasha to snap him out of his post-Kikyo coma and get him to resolve to make Koga’s sacrifice worthwhile. I like how Koga intentionally says the most triggering shit just to piss him off at this point like he’s really become self-aware as a character and knows what his role is. Also as another character that embodies the ‘the power to achieve your dreams is inside you’ moral of the story he started out seeking the jewel to obtain the power to unite the wolf demon tribes and ends up so strong that losing his jewel shards is basically just a minor inconvenience and ends up in a relationship that does in fact unite the fractured parts of the tribes. Meanwhile Sesshomaru is talking to his mom about trying to master Meidou Zangetsuha and ends up getting Kohaku and Rin dragged into the underworld during the training. I feel like Sesshomaru’s mom is such wasted potential like she has so little screentime and is basically a plot device they could’ve done so much more with. Once she reveals that Rin can’t be revived again by the Tenseiga Sesshomaru’s grief and compassion evolves both the healing and the meidou side of Tenseiga so he can purify a hundred souls as it was originally stated and create a much larger Meidou Zangetsuha, though Rin still has to be brought back with Mommymaru’s necklace of convenience. It’s really funny that Jaken takes it upon himself to be Sesshomaru’s emotion translator at this point since he knows he’s stoic enough not to cry when Rin dies despite wanting to and also won’t  thank his mom for saving her despite being thankful. Last but not least she tells Kohaku he also can’t be saved by Tenseiga in case people were starting to think that now that he and Sesshomaru are together, apparently you only get one free get out of death free card regardless of the source so yeah. Inuyasha’s group make it their new mission to hunt down and protect Kohaku so they can figure out what to do now that Naraku has 99.9% of the jewel.
Castlevania: So I’mma be honest, this is where the Internal Vampire politics get kinda frustrating, like I’ve had it in the back of my head that all this infighting may just be a way to ruin Dracula’s otherwise impregnable plan and have a heroic victory while both evil sides are fighting each other and I’m still worried about that considering we’ve spent more time with them than with Trevor this season but in this episode we even find out that all the shit Carmilla wants to do Dracula would’ve just let her do anyway like he doesn’t give a shit, she wants to usurp his armies and the one move that she’s been gunning for since she walked in the door they’re just like ‘sure go nuts’ and the planning of the past like three episodes has basically been for that. I’m getting ahead of myself, Trevor’s group stuff first since we actually make some progress on that this episode. Basically Alucard gives Sypha the reverse speech that Trevor gave her last time about how he’s a dick and they can’t really trust him and like 75% of this show at this point is untrustworthy vampires telling people they can’t trust people. Sypha wisely asserts they’re both morons and they’ve gotta suck it up and get to world-saving or else everyone’s fucked. But yeah back on Carmilla’s weird warpath they don’t know Godbrand’s dead and Isaac is called by Hector to get him to sign off on going to Braila and get in on the Carmilla cult. Isaac is not down for Carmilla but he is for the Braila plan since it means everyone can shut up about it and Carmilla can stop whining so the politics of it don’t functionally matter, like it’s been such a long fight for this and it doesn’t functionally matter because they just do it anyway. Granted Isaac does it because it means their traitors are all in one place with a name and a face and Hector does it because everyone that talks to Carmilla is like ‘Carmilla is always going on about how she doesn’t trust or respect anyone but I’M DIFFERENT, I’M THE SPECIAL ONE’ like Godbrand was a fucking moron so that was fine but geez she’s not even being seductive enough for them to be thinking with their dicks they’re just idiots, she’s not even good at the manipulation considering if she’d just asked Dracula to do it he’s so done at this point he prolly would’ve. She doesn’t even bother to pretend this was Hector’s independent idea and follows him into the room coaching him and shit. Like the only functional thing this does is make Carmilla the Commander in Chief for this fight for… some reason, and like it’s not even a good argument because the two sides are ‘do something’ and ‘do nothing’ and Carmilla has the balls to be all ‘haha now you’re in too deep Hector so I don’t have to pretend to like you anymore’ like BITCH AS LEAST WAIT TILL YOU ACTUALLY HAVE THE REINS like holy shit all you did was convince Dracula to do something he wasn’t all that adverse to doing in the first place you’re not exactly Sosuke Aizen and she has this weird girl power bent to some of her speeches and I’d really rather girls just do the badass girl power thing instead of talking about how girly and empowered they are all the time. Long story short I don’t really like Carmilla and this plot had a really weird end to this section of the season for basically taking up half the runtime. Meanwhile, actual girl power girl Sypha found a way to trap Castlevania in one place as long as she can jerry-rig an ending to the spell that’s like 80% done but she doesn’t have a lot of time because the castle just showed up like… five minutes ago.
Jujutsu Kaisen: It’s Mahito versus Nobara time and apparently Mahito’s clone can’t transfigure souls and can only do the Clayface body warping shit and Nobara actually figures this out and uses the clone’s body as a substitute Straw Doll like she did with the other guy’s arm cause semantically the clone is basically Mahito’s arm and she wrecks him up from long distance, saving Yuji from an ambush in the process and giving him the opportunity to beat the shit out of Mahito while he’s stunlocked. Rather than keep going through that shit, Mahito employs the Joestar Family’s Secret Technique and books it the fuck out of there. The two Mahitos actually meet up and switch, the real one attacking Nobara while Yuji beats the other one’s head in. Mahito gives Nobara’s face a quick tap and isn’t sure if he killed her, like this whole exchange is excruciatingly vague about whether she’s dead or not but we jump straight into her backstory which isn’t a good sign. It’s basically a fleshed-out version of the story she told in the beginning of the series. I feel like this happens a lot where characters in long-running series have simple backstories at the beginning and then have a secondary supplemental flashback to beef up the tragedy or reframe the original flashback, half the cast of One Piece has done this at this point but for Nobara it’s an interesting retelling of her story through the eyes of her friends and giving a ‘this is your life’ type deal about who she’s loved and why she’s done what she’s done that gives a lot better of an idea of who she is than her original introduction. But yeah her eye fucking explodes which is weirdly not how we’ve seen Mahito’s powers work anywhere else but it was just a light tap while he was in a hurry and maybe her energy resisted it or something. Given that and the vagueness where even Mahito’s not sure if it was enough to kill her I’m tempted to say she’s not dead because usually you don’t want to be ambiguous about that shit unless you’re gearing up for a big return but as far as I know the manga’s already fighting Sukuna at this point and she’s yet to make a comeback so who fucking knows.
Delicious in Dungeon: After Laios’s sword gets busted he tells the story of how he got it fighting a bunch of living armor in the dungeon and how he fucked up and died the first time, confirming that death does indeed have no consequences which explains Marcille’s dialogue in the first episode and why no one seems too worried about rushing to get Falin. Still I’d say if death has no consequences in your series that’s something you’d want to establish right away because that is kind of an investment breaker, something like how DBZ put limits on the dragon balls at first and made loopholes harder so death isn’t just meaningless like it is in the Buu Saga. Still I kinda like this episode since it’s mainly focused on one thing and the food stuff doesn’t get in the way of the storytelling too much. They manage to sneak past the living armor colony and Laios fights Ornstein and it turns out it’s a bunch of mollusks living in the layers of the armor and doing weird goopy Alphonse Elric shit. They cook them and Laios gets Ornstein’s sword but it has a mollusk living inside it still so he’s basically got a living weapon which is pretty neat.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End: Frieren confronts Aura and surprisingl the Autistic Elf Power Hour has its second encounter with Living Armor this week, what’re the odds? Aura basically has the Millenium Scales except instead of summoning a demon to eat a Musuem Curator she weighs their power level and just instantly controls anyone weaker than her with the caveat that if someone stronger than her shows up she just automatically gets controlled instead. I’m kinda sad this means Aura doesn’t actually have a demon army like this was just a plot by four guys and not a whole organized force but I guess it’s fine. She uses an anti-spell spell to dispel the control instead of blasting nameless husks into the ground and desecrating their corpses because Himmel yelled at her last time for disrespecting the dead. Aura asks her why she cares what a corpse thinks and oh it is ON now. Meanwhile Fern and Stark are preparing for Stark to book it out of dodge and try and get Frieren back to fight the other two demons when they get caught in an ambush by Blood Sephiroth and the little girl. Turns out the little girl’s powers are Unlimited Blade Works/Sharingan shenanigans where she can create a weapon and mimic a fighting style by watching it enough and she’s just so happened to have copied Eisen’s style during the first war and decks Stark with his own moves but better. Meanwhile it seems Fern’s ability is Quick Draw and she can just fire off spells crazy rapid and puts the push on Blood Sephiroth in a really cool fight that creates literal fireworks. Stark takes Eisen’s words of “Just don’t die, stupid” to heart and does that thing from Samurai Champloo where if you leave yourself wide open enough it leaves the enemy wide open for their counterattack and destroys the little girl so yay, two down two to go.
Vinland Saga: War has reached Ketil’s farm and he’s got about 300 farners with pitchforks versus Canute’s 100 Jommvikings and Royal Theigns so yeah it’s basically the coughing baby versus the hydrogen bomb. Luckily Thorfinn’s met up with Leif and Leif’s a fucking chad and agrees to take on all of Thorfinn’s extra baggage he’s gathered over the past season and transport Arnheid out of there while the fighting’s going on. Snake tells his men that Ketil is a fraud and was never a war hero because he knew the guy his name was actually based on and came to him for help but at the same time he feels indebted to the family that’s taken care of him all this time and it’s really funny to watch his speech about how Ketil’s a fraud and not worth dying over right as he goes out to die for him fires his men up more than anything, like actions really do speak louder than words. Ketil’s kinda bought into his own hype at this point and isn’t listening to the dozens of people telling him he’s going into a meatgrinder and yeah it’s a fucking massacre, I imagined Thorfinn would be more upset watching this or trying to actively broker peace talks but I guess he’s got other shit on his plate right now since Arnheid’s on death’s door and got her ghost husband’s permission to go say her last goodbyes. Meanwhile Thorgil’s just gonna pop out of the ocean buck naked with a sword and try and cut Canute’s head off behind enemy lines so that’s… a plan I guess. I have no clue how he intends to get out of there even if he succeeds but okay, you do your naked regicide.

Tradition, Tradition
(Different First Meeting AU) (but not that different lol)
“Son, we need to talk. Sit down,” Stoick ordered. Hiccup perched on the seat. Stoick rubbed his hands together. “Now then. As you know, you’re going to be sailing to Dragon Island tomorrow to bring back your own dragon. So I want to go over a few things first. One: try and get a strong, mighty beast, like Thornado. If you can bag yourself another Thunderdrum, so much the better.”
Hiccup shrugged. He hadn’t really been planning on trying to get one of those. “I dunno, dad… they’re a bit too loud. I might go deaf,” he joked half-heartedly.
“Fair enough. Alright. Try and get a Flaming Nightmare. Only the best dragon riders try to tame one of those. In fact, I heard from Spitelout that your cousin is planning to get a Nightmare. You don’t want him to show you up, do you?”
He thought about how insufferable Snotlout would be if he got a Nightmare, and grimaced. “No… but hey, what about a Nadder? They’re fast, spiky…”
“Aye. That would do,” Stoick nodded. “Just, for the love of Thor, don’t come back with a Zippleback or a Gronckle or, gods forbid, a Terror,” he added.
Hiccup’s brow furrowed. “Dad, what’s wrong with Gronckles? A lot of people on Berk ride them.” He could at least understand why taming a two headed dragon, or a dragon that couldn’t be ridden on, would be kind of a problem.
“Oh, nothing’s wrong with ‘em, so to speak. It’s just… I’m the chief, and you’re my heir. So whatever dragon you end up with reflects on me. And on our tribe. And on your ancestors. Remember who you’re named after,” Stoick urged.
“Hiccup Haddock the First befriended dragons by rescuing a Terror.”
“Aye, but he rode on a Windwalker,” Stoick retorted. “And then Hiccup Haddock the Second rode a Flaming Nightmare. Which means you, Hiccup Haddock the Third, have a lot to live up to. I know you won’t let me down.”
He wasn’t sure whether to feel pleased or under pressure. “Okay, but on the off chance I don’t manage to tame a rare and or ‘strong, mighty beast’, you’re not gonna, y’know, disown me and kick me out of the house, are you?”
“Well…”
“Dad!”
Stoick roared with laughter. “Oh, I’m just kidding! So, do we have a deal?”
“What, I tame a dragon that won’t embarrass you and you don’t disown me?”
“You tame a dragon we can both be proud of, son. Is it a deal?”
“This bargain is feeling very one sided.”
“Deal?!”
Hiccup sighed. “Deal.”
The next day, he and the other teens set off with Gobber to head for Dragon Island. Ever since his ancestor had shown their tribe how to tame and ride the mighty beasts, the Hairy Hooligans sent the young people of the tribe off to find, tame and fly home on a dragon. It was a coming of age ritual for them.
On the way, everyone else began talking about which dragon they were going to try and tame. “I’m gonna tame a Flaming Nightmare,” declared Tuffnut. “It’s my destiny. See?” He lifted his tunic to reveal a mark on his side that, if one tilted ones head and squinted, vaguely resembled a Flaming Nightmare.
Fishlegs’ eyes widened. “Your mom let you get a tattoo?”
“It’s not a tattoo! It’s a birthmark.”
“Uh, I’ve been with you since birth, and that was never there before,” said Ruff.
“Sure it was. You’ve just never seen me from this side before now.”
Astrid interrupted to say “aren’t you two just gonna share a dragon?”
Tuffnut pulled a face. “Share? With Ruffnut? Eww.” She hit him. “Ow!”
Fishlegs inquired “what kind of dragon are you going to tame, Astrid?”
“A Nadder,” she replied at once. “Beautiful and deadly, just like me.”
“That is so true, Astrid,” declared Snotlout, leering at her. "Hey, you'll never guess what kind of dragon I'm gonna tame,” he boasted. “I, Snotlout Jorgenson, am going to tame and ride… the Night Fury. Dun dun duuuun!”
His words were met with disbelief. “I thought you were gonna tame a Flaming Nightmare,” said Hiccup. “That’s what your dad told my dad, anyway.”
“Pfft. My dad thinks I should tame a Nightmare cos he doesn’t believe the Night Fury exists. Well I say it does, and I’m gonna be the first to ride it. Let me guess; you’re planning on taming a Gronckle or something, aren’t you?”
Behind them, Fishlegs looked hurt. “What’s wrong with Gronckles?”
Hiccup calmly replied “actually, I was thinking maybe a Nadder, like Astrid.”
In truth, he didn’t really know what kind of dragon he wanted. If it weren’t for his dad pressuring him to get an impressive one, Hiccup would have just been glad to have a dragon at all. Gobber interrupted them to say “I think maybe you lot should put your backs into it! We’ll get there at sundown at this rate!”
So they rowed harder (well, Hiccup tried his best) and at last, they made it to the towering, imposing pillars of rock that surrounded Dragon Island. Gobber guided the longship through the sea stacks, and they all got off onto the volcanic black sand beach. “I’ll see you all back on Berk. Good luck!” he said.
Fishlegs asked nervously, “you’re not gonna wait here for us?”
“Nah. If you’re not back by sunset we’ll come look for ye. Probably. Ah, there you are, you great big lummox!” Gobber beamed at a large, rust coloured dragon asleep on the beach. “Wake up, Grump. C’mon, wakey wakey!”
The teens left him to it and set off. They split up and went wandering across the island by themselves. Hiccup walked slowly through the trees, keeping an eye out for Nadders or Nightmares or even a Gronckle. There was no sign of dragons anywhere. “Oh, the gods hate me,” he complained. “Some people can’t find their knife or their mug, no, not me, I can’t find an entire dragon!”
He didn’t look where he was going. Suddenly he tripped and fell down a slope, rolling to the bottom of the scree, landing against something warm and…
Hiccup gasped and scrambled away from the sleeping dragon. He had never seen anything like it before. Jet black, with faint grey dapples; a smooth and streamlined hide; rounded ear-flaps and triangular dorsal fins… This, Hiccup truly and honestly thought, was the most beautiful dragon he’d ever seen.
It’s him… the Night Fury, he thought in awe. Hiccup couldn’t believe he was the one to find the islands most mysterious resident… or that the Night Fury was just sleeping out here in the forest. He’d have thought they would sleep in the mountain, in a deep dark cave; not in a sunlit clearing. As quietly as he could, he took out his notebook and charcoal pencil, and began to sketch the Fury.
Hiccup glanced at the dragon and flinched - it was staring right at him, with a bright green eye. He didn’t dare move. Then it stretched and rose to its paws. He scrambled backwards as it turned towards him until he couldn’t get any further, not without trying to run. Somehow he doubted that would work.
“Uh… nice dragon. Please don’t hurt me,” Hiccup rambled. He cringed when the Night Fury sniffed at him; then he realised it wanted the fish he had tucked in his belt. “Oh, err, here,” he said quickly, holding the fish out. The dragon opened its mouth, revealing pink gums. “You’re toothless? Huh. I really thought you’d have”- a set of conical fangs sprang out and snatched the fish. “Teeth.”
It gulped the fish down in one bite, licked its lips, and peered at him again. Hiccup stiffened. “I don’t have any more,” he said apologetically. Only to wince when the Night Fury coughed up half of the fish into his lap. It stared at him expectantly. Hiccup sighed. He’d been warned about this. Might as well get it over with he thought grimly, steeling himself to take a bite of the raw fish.
Eww, Eww, Eww! It was cold and slimy and disgusting. He resisted the urge to spit it out again and gulped it down, even though it made his eyes water. He couldn’t help but grimace. The dragon peered at him curiously, and he forced an awkward grin. Then he realised he’d just bared his teeth at a dragon. Oops.
To his relief, the Fury didn’t get aggressive. Instead… they mimicked him, pulling their gums back into a lopsided smile. Hiccup’s smile relaxed into a more natural expression. “You’re not what I expected,” he remarked. “I mean, I wasn’t expecting anything in particular. Most of my village doesn’t even believe you exist. But I figured a Night Fury would be more, well, furious.”
They snorted. “No offence. It’s just, no one knows anything about you. I was trying to draw you, actually.” He showed them the sketch he’d been making, and they perked up. He watched in bemusement as the dragon snapped a branch off a tree and dragged it through the mud. They were… drawing?
Well, scribbling. Then they sat back looking satisfied. “You like drawing too?” Hiccup wondered, before finally realising “Wait. Can you… understand me?”
In response they looked at him in a way that screamed what do you think? “Wow. That’s amazing! Can - can all dragons understand humans?” he asked. They rolled their eyes and proceeded to warm the ground with their fire, before settling back down for a nap. May as well finish the sketch, thought Hiccup.
When he was done, he couldn’t resist edging closer to the snoozing dragon and reaching out to touch them. Just once. His hand was hovering inches away from their snout when their eyes snapped open once again. He snatched his hand away. “Sorry. I just, uh… oh, what the hell. If you really can understand me, then - truth is, I’m supposed to train and ride a dragon home from here.
“I was just gonna try and get a Nadder or something, but I couldn’t find any dragons and then I fell down that slope and you were here and it feels like I already know you so well and I thought maybe you’d let me… ride you.” Hiccup sighed. “But of course you won’t. What am I thinking? You’ll probably be flying off any minute now, just to get away from the annoying, babbling human.”
They didn’t fly off. Instead they just looked at him, calm and intelligent. Hiccup tentatively reached out again, averting his gaze. He held his hand up, waiting, hoping… and then a warm snout pressed against his palm. His eyes opened.
A warm nose rested against his hand. Bright green eyes gazed into his soul. His breath caught in his throat. “Wow. Um. My name’s Hiccup, by the way.”
The Night Fury purred and showed him their gums. “Yeah, I know, you’re toothless… oh! Wait, is that - is that your name? Toothless?” he wondered. They purred. “I’ll take that as a yes. Uh, are you a boy Night Fury or a”-
Growl.
“… Boy?”
Purr.
“Huh. Well, my dad won’t be able to complain about this. Thanks, Toothless.”

Wait if Big Mac is applejacks half-brother, does that mean one of her parents cheated?? Also who’s the zebra parent?? I’m so curious 👀
Well its complicated for sure!
Big Macs mom is a pony, who originally fell for a zebra, and had Big Mac, but his dad passed away from magic consumption (basically he messed w too much magic and it k*lled him) and yk- everyone bullied the zebras kid after tht
Later on when Big Mac was… about 10-12 years old, his mom met a pony, and had applejack- and Big Mac did his best to protect her when both their parents passed away (yet to decide why…)
Alsooo… the zebra dad? He’s kinda important :]
He was the chief of a zebra tribe (yesss I made it a tribe thing) and Big Mac has yet to find out he was supposed to take that role :]]]

Shameless characters with the aux:
Fiona: lotta standard top 50s 2010s shit. She doesn't have time for music. Probably likes 50 Cent, Ke$ha, Outkast, Rihanna, Britney Spears, Nelly Furtado, Jasoooooooon Dureeeellooooo, and of course Kanye. Arctic Monkeys for when she wants guitar music.
Lip: definitely a Post Punk Revival / Alt Rock guy, he's so horny and angsty. Lotta Interpol and The Strokes, some Kings of Leon, Queens of the Stone Age, maybe a little Psychadelic Rock too. Fucks with William Crooks and Kendrick Lamar the most as far as rappers go.
Ian: lotta guitar driven Shoegaze & Noise Rock, some Queercore, maybe some Post-Hardcore & Melodic Hardcore after being besties with Mandy Milkovich for so long. Title Fight, Fleshwater, Black Eyes, Limp Wrist, Lightning Bolt, Midori, Loathe, shit like that. Arguably the one in the family who likes music the most due to being a poor gay kid with no outlet outside of violence.
Debbie: Influenced by a lot of her older sibling's tastes and it shows. Lots of little sister pop and girly Hip Hop and a little Screamo / Punk. Avril, Paramore, No Doubt, Ting Tings, Blind Girls, P!nk, Bratmobile, 7 Year Bitch, Lizzo, Megan Thee Stallion, and Rico Nasty.
Carl: Hip Hop and (diet) Metal mostly. Eminem, Hollywood Undead, Trivium, Suicide Silence, I Declare War, Korn, Slipknot, Tyga, Pop Smoke, Lil Durk, T.I., Relaye, Nas, Bobby Shmurda, Chief Keef, Tupac. Your standard angry / horny / macho shit with a little dash of angst.
Liam: is genuinely pretty ok with everything being he's from a family full of white people, but has a clear bias towards Ambient and R&B. Panchiko, Aphex Twin, Brian Eno, Akira Yamaoka, The Floaters, Isley Brothers, 112, J.O.E., Mos Def, and the Roots. World's chillest 11 year old.
Kevin: Mac Miller, J.I.D, J. Cole, Drake, ODB, Kid Cudi, maybe some Sublime, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, and Smashing Pumpkins? I can see him being a relatively in touch dad but a dad nonetheless.
Veronica: Lot of Aaliyah, TLC, Kanye, Tribe Called Quest (especially when her daughters are around), Fugees, Erykah Badu, Lil Kim, Noname, Mary J. Blige. Lotta Pharrell too cus she thinks he's sexy. Standard cute mom / badass big sister jams.
Mickey: Definitely a -core guy. Would prob bump a lot of Crust Punk too. Emmure, Hatebreed, Pain of Truth, Sunami, No Retreat, Pig Destroyer, Cryptopsy, fluoride, Extreme Noise Terror, and of course Slipknot. He also really rocks with Kesha but he's super embarrassed about it.
Mandy: Despite the cast being full of deeply traumatized and pissed off individuals Mandy Milkovich is really the only one I can see being an emo girl (she certainly dresses the part and has the backstory for it.) She'd like a lot of Screamo and Post-Hardcore tbh. Blind Girls (she's definitely the reason Debbie fucks with them), Deftones, BMTH, Flyleaf, Damones, Kittie, Fleshwater (she got Ian into them), fluoride (Mickey got her into them), and Envy. Outside of that she probably fucks with Hole.
Frank: why the fuck would you let him in your car.

lore & canon - divergent storylines
shape-shifter lore
Jacob is not a werewolf , he is instead a shape shifter stemming from spirit warriors of his tribe . the legend tells that the spirit warriors would leave behind their bodies & travel until a chief was betrayed and his body killed . this chief eventually merged with a wolf - learning he was able to share the body with the wolf . he had been able to control animals in spirit form before & found that he could do the same inside the wolf as well and so the chief merged spirits with the wolf creating the wolves of la push .
All wolves are hotter than natural humans - enough to feel feverish and can cause concern . however it is not so much that a human would think something was unnatural .
Shape-shifters can exist in other tribes & the Quileute's did not have to take the form of a wolf . because the first chief chose the wolf , however , & others followed his lead it stayed in their descendants genes so now when they phase for the first time they become wolves by default .
The first transformation for a shape-shifter often happens after puberty . the gene lies dormant in the child if there are no other supernatural creatures ( not just vampires ) in the area . it is believed the gene is a defense mechanism that triggers the first phase to help protect the tribe .
Often the transformation is triggered by a large amount of emotion . this does not always mean anger - although it seems to be the easiest way to boil over . the children of the tribe tend to be extra hormonal around puberty regardless of if the gene will be triggered or not .
The first transformation is disorienting & painful . It grows easier over time which is why it gets easier to control phasing over time . Intense emotion can cause a shape-shifter to phase without meaning to in the beginning .
After the first phase the shape-shifter tends to fill out . they grow in size & mature quickly . their aging also slows ( in the books it stops altogether . ) If they want to continue aging at a normal rate they can stop phasing altogether , but even if they continue to phase the shape-shifter will still age .
Tumblr media
Jacob's canon is pretty much the same up until New Moon . His father tries to have him warn Bella Swan against the Cullen's but is very vague about his reasonings . Jacob does it because he is bribed with money for car parts ( he's a young teen he can't help it ) and because he has never known his dad to be so unreasonable and is actually worried about her .
In New Moon , Jacob does take Bella under his wing & try to help her . She reminds him a lot of his mom before her untimely passing at this time & he's very concerned about her but never pushes for extra information . He understands that it seems there are some secrets she cannot share .
Jacob has had a crush on Bella for as long as he can remember - but unlike book Jacob ( who deserved better ) he does not push his feelings . He understands they may forever be unrequited & although he believes he would never leave her like Edward did he also knows he does not know the full scope of the situation . He is simply a friend . ( this develops based on plotting / timeline / etc . )
He does go to movies with Mike & Bella - however he is set off instead because of Mike seeming to want to push Bella into a date . Although Mike is harmless & doesn't really do anything Jacob starts to feel sick . After dropping them both off he races home . His father asks him a simple why do you look like that ? and Jacob explodes . Billy is quick enough to barricade himself in the back room & Jacob ends up running to the woods . Billy then gets a call off to Sam who phases after calling the pack & they spend the next few days calming Jacob down & explaining things .
A few things register to Jacob after he finds out what happened : Bella lied about things way more important than he thought , he cannot trust himself around her any longer , and he does not want the responsibility of being the alpha of the pack . Sam does offer it to him as he is bound to do - but Jake hates being a wolf . He feels it changed everything about his life & he feels unstable which he never felt before this . It irks him that the other guys seem to love phasing & as soon as he phases back it takes awhile before he's willing to go back . Because there are no patrols at this point since the Cullen's have vanished , he is allowed to be on his own to cope .
Jacob & Billy's relationship deteriorates at this time . He is angry his father never even hinted of what could happen & even angrier that now he is stuck in La Push forever . He was the one to stay back with Billy while his sisters went off & although he knew he would have to probably stay since Billy needs help , he feels trapped . He is also angry at Bella . He feels lied to by everyone & as if she & Billy have been in on the secret this whole time . He feels like a pawn in their supernatural games .
When Eclipse comes around Jacob does try to make amends with Bella . They got close in New Moon but any crush he had for her vanishes as soon as she lets Edward come back . He had begged her not to go to Italy because he did not believe it was human's place to save a supernatural creature . Besides , Jacob feels a deep hatred for vampires . They are the reason his life is in shambles & the reason he is a different man now . He cannot forgive them & takes the enemy stance to a whole new level . He is more unforgiving towards vampires than the others of his tribe . Sure they don't like vampires but he truly hates them .
Unlike the books , this does not change for Jacob . They took away his future & what he considers his personality for the most part . Things are tense with Bella ( unless plotted Jacob does not have romantic feelings for Bella during Eclipse ) and it is Sam that has to convince Jacob to work with them against the newborns . Jacob does not go to the graduation party , etc . He does get hurt protecting Leah ( at this point Jacob & Leah have a very close friendship . They both feel similar in regards to becoming shape-shifters & feel as if their lives have been ripped from them . I do ship leah x jacob hardcore . ) and has to stay at home to be healed . Against his wishes , Billy lets Carlisle heal him & explains that is due to not wanting any questions to be asked by a regular doctor .
The biggest canon change my Jacob holds is at the end of eclipse . He leaves as soon as he is healed - before he gets words of Bella's wedding . He cannot stand La Push any longer & he fights with Billy too much for it to be beneficial for him to stay . Billy even tells him to go - wanting his son to come back eventually but knowing that Jacob needs to find happiness & find himself . Jacob checks in with the pack every so often ( preferring to speak with Leah or Seth ) but otherwise ignores them . He hardly calls home .
Timelines change for Jacob . This is where AU verses come in - sometimes he ends up in mystic falls, beacon hills , etc etc . sometimes he eventually comes home once the vampires have left . He has no knowledge of any events in breaking dawn & loses contact with Bella for a very long time if not forever .
