Can I ask what Maria & Antonio’s relationship has been like through the ages? Like, Al & Arthur have Crown Prince vs Old King, but what’s the vibe with Maria & Antonio? She was Crown Jewel of Spanish Empire. Do Spain & Cuba view each other as Father-Son? What about the rest of Central & South America? Also, Brazil & Portugal? Sorry for so many questions.
hey! thanks for the question—i will focus just on Maria (Mexico) and Antonio here, whom i have the clearest headcanons for.
how i personally headcanon it: Antonio and Maria are somewhat similar, but also different from Arthur and Alfred— so, a father/daughter dynamic. he is her "father"—in the usual, loaded nation sense of 'his actions caused her to come into being' and/or 'he has shaped her culturally'. just as in human families, not all fathers are good ones: so father-daughter here doesn't mean 'this is a healthy, cosy domestic dynamic'. after all, imperialism also shapes people and families intimately; Antonio is her "father" similarly to how Arthur is to Alfred—it's the dynamic of imperial power, authority and lineage. from the POV of humans who saw them both in 16th century Mexico City, they read them as 'oh, a spanish lord and his mestiza daughter.' he does have her officially legitimised (as some conquistadores historically did with their multiracial children).
nonetheless, like all nations, she isn’t born the human way. and in reality, she has more than two "parents"— at the very least, from a young age she'd been aware also of her connection to Mexica (who headed the powerful Triple Alliance commonly referred to as the "Aztec Empire") and Tlaxcala (another Nahuatl-speaking state and Mexica's long-time enemy, who made an alliance with the Spanish and furnished most of the soldiers during the siege of Tenochtitlan, the Mexica seat of power. Antonio's actions contributed to her being born—but so did Mexica and Tlaxcala's. thus, while Antonio tries to assert cultural dominance (speaking Spanish and religion for example), Maria always navigated it differently, rather than him being able to transplant his culture wholesale (such as with how cultural syncretism occurred re: religion in Mexico) because it was simply impossible for her not to be unaware of her non-European heritage. as i see it, from young, she was always fluent in Nahuatl (the language of both Mexica and Tlaxcala), not just Spanish.
much like Arthur did for Alfred, I see him being the one who picked the name 'Maria' for her. for Antonio, on some messed-up level, he sees himself in her and that’s one thing that underlies his willingness to legitimise her as his daughter: he understands himself as being born in the conquest and bloodshed inflicted by Rome and Carthage— and many others who came subsequently (your birth being someone else's misfortune or even death, is one thing that is understandably jarring from our point of view, but taken for granted by older nations). as I see it, “Antonio” came from Rome naming him “Antonius”. Hispania was fought over by Rome and Carthage in part for its rich silver mines, after all—and while history doesn't repeat, sometimes it rhymes. as it was with Alfred, while she was seen as the prestigious 'jewel' in the spanish crown, her relationship with her father was always riven by the contradictions imposed by imperialism.
Antonio claims her as his daughter, and his name and authority gives her access to certain things—but that acceptance and privilege was often conditional and inconsistent (as was the experience of many real mixed-race people during that time who had powerful fathers—or as in my own family re: the context of British and French imperialism in the 20th century), and there was no ignoring the imperial hierarchy in place in the wider colony-empire dynamic, even if Antonio was at times personally affectionate or indulgent towards her. so, while she was well-educated and had many social opportunities, she did feel the imperial hierarchy quite keenly. i feel that sometimes, she felt similarly to Alfred (and maybe even more so, given the richness of Mexico's silver mines and dramatic stories being told about the "Aztec" Empire/Mexica in Europe) in that she was being shown off for her father's status rather than being understood as a person. i will leave it here for this ask, for now, but overall, it was a relationship similar in some ways to Arthur and Alfred, in the sense of paternal authority and imperial hierarchy—but of course, also different due to the ways British and Spanish colonial policies in the Americas diverged.

Hi great blog, wanted to ask you something about Wanda and Pietro, given all the bad blood that´s already between them and Magneto, don´t you think it would be interesting if it´s revealed they are related to Dr Doom instead of Erik? considering they are all romani? given he took care of Wanda for a time? this way they still have that conection to a complicated character but there´s less bad blood between them.
I honestly think that would be a terrible idea, one reason it would be erasing Wanda & Pietro's Jewish side, a side they rarely interact with but is nonetheless their heritage. Another reason is that Victor showed interest romantically in Wanda at one point.
Not all Romani are related and it would be weird to say they all were in the comics as well, otherwise we would need to explain where Kurt's adopted family fits into this family tree. Both the Maximoffs and Victor's people are from different family groups and it would make no sense for them to be related.
I honestly don't understand why people would want Wanda & Pietro to not be related to Erik, they have been retconned several times into being children of different people, even american parents once, but none of it is as compelling or interesting or makes sense for their complicated backstory as them being related to Erik is. Even their current "canon" of having Django's sister be their real mother isn't something I want to stay, if they were going to have full Roma parents then it would have been better off to keep their original parent; Django & Marya Maximoff.
I honestly don't want there to be less bad blood between Erik and his kids, I enjoy them as the messed up family they are, even though there are times I like to see some fluff family stuff as well, but at the core of their family Erik is a very traumatized man who spent years trying to deal with his past in a way that makes sense for him. Pietro & Wanda unfortunately bare the generational trauma of their father and mother, and all of it is more real to me than having them play happy families because not all families are perfect. Unlike other fictional families Magneto and the Maximoff Twins are rooted in real world issues, Jewish and Romani racism against them have made them who they are.
And honestly as much as I love Victor von Doom, he is not the best father figure, he has his own issues and even though he loves his adopted son Kristoff it has not all been perfect. Doctor Doom or anyone else simply won't work as substitute parental figures because the Maximoff reveal was years in the making, it wasn't something that happened over night and the fact it was their father who used them in his mutant vs human war only adds to more levels of dynamics and drama between them.

The Voyage So Far: Alabasta (Part Two)
east blue (1 | 2) || alabasta (1 | 2) || skypiea || water 7 || enies lobby || thriller bark || paramount war (1 | 2) || fishman island || punk hazard || dressrosa (1 | 2) || whole cake island || wano (1 | 2)
Tumblr media
crocodile is one of my favorite villains in one piece for a number of reasons, and one of them is because he’s such a threat, the first real one faced in the grand line and one of the toughest in all of paradise. the villains from the arcs before this, like wapol or the agents from little garden, could barely even land a hit on luffy in actual combat. so crocodile is introduced here as an absolute force of nature, a complete contrast to recent villains and a very tangible threat.
it’s an impression he very much lives up to later in the arc by crushing luffy not once but twice, which only makes luffy’s ultimate hard-won triumph feel all the better. luffy closes a huge gap over the course of alabasta in order to be able to beat crocodile, and giving us a sense of just how strong he is from the very start gives luffy clawing his way up to that level a lot more weight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the successive reveals of luffy’s family never fail to absolutely delight me, because in any other series they would almost certainly feel contrived, but knowing luffy, it is absolutely unsurprising he just never happened to mention his relatives. nobody asked! luffy’s unique brand of honesty is one of my favorite character quirks, because he’s very straightforward and in fact can’t lie for shit, but his priorities are so completely off the wall that he winds up omitting highly relevant information completely by accident.
Tumblr media
ace’s scene in alabasta really does impress me. oda’s said in an sbs that he knew ace’s fate from his introduction, which i find absolutely unsurprising given the intricacy of his story planning. that means he needed ace’s introduction to make him both likable and memorable enough in the space of just a couple chapters that the audience would be engaged when he became the focus of the story a couple hundred chapters on despite barely appearing at all in the intervening time, and he really succeeded.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
kohza is one of my favorite minor characters in the whole series, and i think he’s a big part of why alabasta’s civil war plotline works so well and feels so real. nobody on either side of the war actually wants to fight, but everyone has been driven to such desperation that they feel they have no other choice in order to save their country; and kohza exemplifies that. he's a good person who loves his country a lot, and who genuinely likes and cares about the royal family and vivi especially, and the only option he can see to save alabasta is terrible, but there’s nothing else he can do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it’s just fun for me to think about the fact that if crocodile was literally anything other than a very skilled logia, vivi would have ended the whole entire arc right here.
Tumblr media
i really like civil war storylines when they’re well-done, and i think alabasta is one of the best ones i’ve seen in media. most of it is down to what i mentioned earlier, about how nobody on either side actually wants to fight but feels like they have no choice but to. nobody here is actually in the wrong except for crocodile, and so until crocodile is defeated, nothing can be fixed- which is what luffy, of all people, is the one to realize.
Tumblr media
sanji’s mr. prince gambit is probably my single favorite part of alabasta, and i think one of the reasons i like it so much is because he basically beats crocodile at his own game. crocodile is terrifying in battle, but before anything else he’s a manipulator. he’s always working from the shadows, always deceiving people doing what he wants, and sanji manages to turn the tables on him and do the exact same back to him, twice.
also sanji looks great in glasses
Tumblr media
smoker and tashigi both get kind of unfortunately sidelined after this saga, but they’re both really great characters in alabasta. (tashigi especially; i’ll get to her later.) much like the rebel army, they’re good people trying to do the right thing in the tangled mess of tension and politics and resentment that is alabasta- and when that means working with pirates, they’ll buckle down and do it, despite how much it might contradict their worldviews.
i love when events align in one piece so that people who don’t particularly like the strawhats wind up working with them for some common goal (as seen most prominently in impel down), and smoker and tashigi in alabasta are the first and still one of the best examples of that.
Tumblr media
the entirety of luffy versus crocodile round one is so well done. we’re a hundred and fifty chapters in, and although luffy has struggled in fights before now and then, we get the sense he hasn’t ever really been pushed to the brink, and he’s certainly never lost.
and then he does, completely and absolutely, without ever even landing a hit on his opponent, and it hits like a punch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
oda seems to be a fan of characters just barely missing each other- the similar panel of robin and olvia running past each other from robin’s flashback comes to mind.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i’ve always liked that of all the strawhats, it’s usopp who gets the first “luffy is going to be king of the pirates” moment. they’ve all said it by the current chapters in wano (with the sole exception of robin, i believe), but usopp said it first, and that feels significant to me. he’s always been the one who feels the least secure in his place on the crew, but even so, he has so much faith in luffy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
nami’s fight with miss doublefinger is pretty silly in places and i think it gets frequently (understandably, it must be said) overshadowed by zoro’s fight with mr. 1 directly afterwards, but i really like it nonetheless. it’s nami’s first real solo fight in the whole series, and once she finds her feet she kicks ass, and i really like that. it feels like a very satisfying development for her, to stand up and risk her life in direct combat for vivi’s sake.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
we’re now almost a thousand chapters in and its my firm belief that zoro versus mr. 1 is still one of the best fights in the entire series. i definitely think it’s probably zoro’s best fight- only his match with kaku compares. the narrative build over the course of the fight, from zoro struggling just to match mr. 1 (and getting shredded to pieces in the process) to cutting him down in one final stroke, is incredibly cool and satisfying to watch. it feels like a very tangible step forward for zoro in terms of ability, like a massive obstacle has been surmounted and, as he himself says, he’s now stronger for it.
its also very cool that this is, i believe, the first appearance of what is probably observation haki, though it isn’t named or recognized as such. i’m always endlessly impressed by all the little moments of internal consistency that oda manages to sprinkle into his story.
Tumblr media
there’s barely any dialogue on these entire two pages, from crocodile dropping vivi to luffy and pell swooping in- the story is briefly told entirely through visuals- and i love that. it gives the impression of a single tense, frozen moment as vivi falls, which is then broken in spectacular fashion when luffy catches her.
Tumblr media
i really, really like the progression that runs through all three of luffy’s fights with crocodile. the gap between them goes from being impossible, with luffy unable to even land a hit and crocodile basically toying with him; to surmountable but still huge, with luffy able to land some hits but still outclassed; to finally putting them on basically even ground. and every inch of that growth on luffy’s part is hard-fought and hard-won and well-deserved.
crocodile’s confidence in his abilities isn’t misplaced- he genuinely is that powerful. but if there’s anything we know about luffy by now, it’s that he doesn’t ever give up. it’s very fun to watch crocodile’s dismissiveness turn into disbelief turn into rage and frustration when luffy just won’t die.
luffy is, additionally, pretty clearly a better brawler than crocodile (which makes sense, crocodile is clearly used to devastating long-range attacks with his powers while luffy grew up fighting giant wildlife with his bare hands), which means that by the time of their last fight, where they’re just whaling on each other in the catacombs and crocodile is starting to get sloppy and desperate and lose control, if anything it’s luffy who has the upper hand.
Tumblr media
zoro and sanji’s dynamic is always a favorite of mine, and one of the things i like best about them is how perfectly in sync they always manage to be when it comes to things that actually matter, despite fighting like cats and dogs pretty much every other time. i’ll never understand people who think they genuinely aren’t friends.
Tumblr media
tashigi is really good in alabasta, okay. she essentially has her own entire character growth arc. she goes from her stance in loguetown, where she isn’t even tolerant of (fully legal!) bounty hunters, to here, where she’s forced to confront that the world isn’t nearly as black and white as she’s always believed it to be, that sometimes pirates are good and allies of the government are bad, and ultimately makes the right choice to help the strawhats even though it clearly pains and frustrates her that she can’t do anything more herself.
i’ll be forever mad that her only really significant appearance after this in punk hazard didn’t really live up to what her character deserved.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i really like how the countdown sequence is done. the tension is ratcheting up and up and up as the clock ticks down in the final seconds, panels cutting all over the city to show all the different characters, everyone who’s caught up in this conflict and everyone who’ll die if the cannon fires-
and then the clock hits zero, and we get this panel that’s just... quiet, after all the madness, as we see how vivi stopped the detonation. i think oda is very good at setting up his pages so they have a flow to them, so no matter how quickly you actually read sometimes things feel like they’re going very fast and all happening at once and then it slows down and gives the reader a chance to breathe, if only to speed up again later. i think oda is really good at pacing in general, really, both on a micro level like this and on a larger scale.
Tumblr media
luffy’s greatest strength isn’t really his strength. he’s strong, absolutely, but that’s not really why he wins the fights he shouldn’t win. he wins because he just doesn’t fucking stay down. his fight with katakuri is probably the best example of this, because katakuri has him beat in pretty much every category except sheer endurance, and there as here, it’s that endurance that winds up getting luffy the win in the end.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i do love that it’s the rain that ends the war. not the explosion and pell’s sacrifice, not vivi’s pleading, not even luffy kicking crocodile into the stratosphere, but the rain, the thing alabasta’s been missing for too long, the thing crocodile stole, the only thing all these people are fighting over.
it’s crocodile’s symbolic defeat- at the same moment his power is broken by luffy, the stranglehold of dehydration he’s been using to foment war and rebellion is all at once gone, and he’s left with nothing at all, and alabasta can finally find peace and start to heal again.
Tumblr media
i always love the little moments that show, usually without words, just how much the strawhats love each other, and all of them unanimously waiting until vivi is out of sight to collapse so that she won’t worry, won’t see how ragged they ran themselves for their sake, is definitely one of them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i adore vivi’s sendoff, because while its sad she has to go, the certainty that someday they’ll meet again and that even if not they’ll always be crew manages to make this scene endlessly hopeful instead (which, i think, is also a good summary of one piece’s tone as a whole, at least in its more serious moments). luffy never says goodbye, after all, and nobody ever really leaves the strawhat pirates.
i’m really looking forward to vivi’s re-entry to the story. i really, really want to see her reunion with the strawhats.
Tumblr media
hey look, it’s the panel my profile picture is from!
Tumblr media
the mystery surrounding robin and her past is built up in little ways long before enies lobby, from her harsh reaction when confronted with by tashigi to her aversion to being called by her given name to this flashback, of her talking to cobra about her dream. of them, the latter is my favorite, because i think it’s probably the most sincere she is until enies lobby- which makes sense, given she thinks she’s about to die.
like many things about robin in alabasta, this gets cast in a new light by her backstory. if she dies here, so too does the entire legacy of ohara- but she’s so beaten down and hopeless that she really doesn’t see any light ahead to strive for. there’s no hope left, for her, and the whole world against her.
and then there’s luffy, who creates hope everywhere he goes, who makes her live anyways.
Tumblr media
this is a hell of a spread to hook us very effectively right into the sky island saga. it’s a perfect reminder of just how much we still don’t know about all the endless mysteries of the grand line, and just how many adventures are still yet to be had.

Thoughts on The Mitchells vs the Machines
I watched it a while ago and kept forgetting to post my thoughts on it, but some posts here on tumblr recently reminded me.
I disagree with the majority takeaways I see but is that not the spice of life?
As a standalone movie its inoffensive and the writing of it will likely exit my brain in a few months.  However I can appreciate that the visual style was different from the typical fare and the mixture of 2d elements for visual embellishments were mostly enjoyable and well-suited for Katie as the POV character.
It's a bit "hyper" for my liking, but that's fine, it's likely intended for an audience that's accustomed to the flood that is the current norm of the internet.  It was probably made with GIFable moments in mind and that is the most frequent content that is shared about it, so it certainly succeeded in that regard.
My more critical take is that jokes are delivered at the expense of what could be more authentic themes.  Quips are made that draw attention to character flaws or undercut questions the movie should try to answer, but inevitably they are ignored to move onto the next joke or story beat.
The rest would fall more into spoiler territory, so read more for that.
--"They Were Both In the Wrong"
I personally disagree heavily with the thrust of how "both sides" were wrong when the degrees are disproportionate.
I've seen claims that Katie was "as in the wrong" as her father, but she's incredibly patient to the man who does her material harm.
I've yet to have seen someone say specifically what Katie did *wrong* to her father that is at all on par with the *years* he at best hasn't been able to interact with her or worse, actively refused to engage with her interests.
I would generously venture that her flaw was that she was more willing to communicate her feelings to strangers, but she easily talks to her mother and brother- her brother even helps her with her movies and she happily engages him with his own interests, which pivots the point back to how her father is physically/emotionally unavailable and led to the erosion and distance between the two of them.
Due to this, MvM comes across more as Kaite having to do so much more to guide her father rather than a more mutual learning experience for the both of them.
--"Technology that [Dis]Connects"
It's probably beyond the scope and intent of the film, but I was surprised there was no examination about why technology can be more alluring than interacting with physically present people.
For better or worse, the internet can be used as a means of supplementing the validation and acceptance of family.  It can also lead to no longer connecting to people around them because of the validation high of appealing to a constantly 'awake' sea of strangers- the spotlight is warmer than the cold reality that they are not the internet image they have cultivated.
For example, the rival 'perfect' family was never revealed to be a carefully constructed highlight reel that Mrs. Mitchell envies, they really were actually that perfect- because that provides an easier punchline than an examination or acknowledgement of how the internet can create unhealthy expectations.
I also can't expect MvM to acknowledge the reality that LGBTA+ people who are rejected by their family resort to seeking a new one through the internet because it would be much harder to redeem/rehabilitate a man defined by being tethered to "old values" if he was homophobic instead of "overprotective" and apprehensive at his daughter's departure from home and her dubious art career.
But hey we got that quick line at the end that Katie likes a girl, so that's a diversity win or something.
(To be clear I'm not expecting a whole parade or even an A or B-plot dedicated to it, but I think it should be acknowledged that this kind of "surprise inclusion" is very easily erased with a change of audio and would be completely unsurprised if this were the case for countries that are homophobic.  People can be happy about it, but it is dishonest to pretend that this is a bolder statement than it is.)
In that sense, I do and don't hold MvM to taking a "safer" route about how family always has your back, but this still feels like an important omission considering the focus on technology and its dynamic with the Mitchells.
I will also say that it was also bizarre, to me at least, that the obvious route that her father sees the value of home videos didn't become an active point between him and Katie.  Or that Mr. Mitchell's carpentry never really amounts to anything despite having a sentimental wooden moose.
Lastly, I think it's an unintentional, but it's interesting that Katie going to college to pursue her passion is viewed as a Terrible Thing by her father even though if he had his way, he'd be ostensibly living in the woods away from everyone else except his wife.
This isn't a problem, people are a collection of contradictions, but It's fascinating to see what the *narrative* treats as a difficult sacrifice while simultaneously pulling at heartstrings when PAL cites how children ignore their mothers.  There's an unexamined comedy that Mr. Mitchell's losing out on his 'passion' to live in the woods away from people is treated as tragic despite the movie's insistence on staying connected with your blood family.
--"The Inconsistent Personhood of AI"
PAL is rightfully angry at being discarded for something new; it's provided as a glimpse of what Katie will do when she finds 'her people' at college.
This in of itself is a good hook, because there is no one universal answer to when a flawed relationship should be mended with compromise or if it's better off being broken for the wellbeing of the ones involved.  Family and relationships are not programming, it's a choice and a gamble for whatever it brings but is nonetheless something that must be mutually worked upon.
Initially I thought that PAL was being set up as an exaggerated parallel to Mr. Mitchell.  PAL and Mr. Mitchell did their best to provide for their family.  PAL and Mr. Mitchell are in different stages of being 'discarded' by their family.  PAL and Mr. Mitchell both retaliate at their lack of power in the scenario by using the power granted by their roles to infringe on the autonomy of others for selfish reasons.
PAL even gives a 'chance' for her plan to be halted with, I had assumed this was being set up as the thesis of the movie, about humanity and the value of family, relationships, etc. being used to help someone who is already hurting.
But despite Katie looking at the camera and explaining herself, it is never actually directly resolved or challenged because a punchline was deemed more desirable for this narrative climax.
This begs the question of why PAL bothered with the pretense that she could be reasoned with, especially since this is not some question leveled at all of humanity, just two people.
I'm curious how the writers came to the conclusion that this was the best execution of the scene or if Katie's speech was considered immune to any challenge from PAL.  Would anyone have accepted this outcome if PAL were not an AI but instead a person?
It's not necessarily bad writing they went this route, but I doubt anyone would consider this good writing either.
By the end of the movie, PAL is no longer a 'person' who was betrayed and is lashing out, she is an object to be destroyed because the movie has to wrap up.  No compassion or chances are spared to this AI that did literally everything asked of her except take being discarded quietly.
Did PAL deserve a redemption arc? For this length of movie, probably not.  But it could have concluded with a commitment to doing no further harm.  Instead it is an accidental glimpse at how easily the pretense of compassion can be quickly discarded and mostly unexamined with the right framing.
A likely unintentional example is the conditional humanity given to Eric and Deborahbot who are adopted as "family" while the rest of the robots are mowed down without another thought.  Some are even beaten and broken while begging for mercy, because again, it is a funnier punchline.
Far be it for me to advocate that the murderbots needed 'a second chance uvu' but for a movie whose conceit rests on 'sticking by family' and 'giving chances', the writers certainly made a choice in deciding which AI get honorary humanity and spared violent death- perhaps PAL had a point about humanity's callousness after all.  Bad robots are discarded, good robots get to live.
Even the CEO who realizes he enabled this mess (easily the most unrealistic part of the movie, honestly) is given another chance and he manages to take away a completely wrong lesson.
Speaking of-
--"Maybe I Shouldn’t Have Used Tech Like This"
There's a particular image/gif set posted about MvM with the CEO apologizing for the machine uprising, attributing it to unchecked technology and monopolies.  I've always seen it accompanied by people congratulating the scene as if any of this is at all relevant to the movie.
Charitably, these are people who haven't watched the movie and don't know that PAL is a phone AI single-handedly doing this, but most take the stance that this scene is proof the movie is not saying technology is bad, only corporations are.
The speech isn't technically wrong but it is so utterly divorced from what happens in the movie that it's surreal to see people congratulate it as anything but a moment of soapboxing.
None of the datagrabbing was used at all as part of the takeover.  It's all magical kid-friendly terminators with no relevance to what anyone's browsing history is.  If the company was one that produced robot assistants instead of a being a super tech monopoly, there would be no narrative difference.
The closest to a predatory tactic that is used in MvM is the offer of free wifi which is used to lure most people into their cells which they happily comply with. Curiously this... commentary of people’s mindless addiction to technology is not acknowledged by the Tumblr Court with the same intensity as the CEO’s speech.
But more constructively, I do feel it’s a missed opportunity that Katie who's supposed to be an extremely online person apparently never said any bad things about her family or made any petty vent films for PAL to weaponize.  Instead an in-media audio at one of the outskirt locations was used to accomplish its Traitor Revealed moment.
IN CONCLUSION
MvM is a movie that involves topics that ought to be touched on and explored properly in media and chickens out on all of it due to possible concerns with age-appropriate handling or because it was more committed to its comedy than whatever it has to say about family, change and how technology affects people.
It also reminded me that I hope media will finally graduate from the trope that if you spec into any ‘outdoorsy’ hobby you are incurably afraid of technology.

stella’s default stance on the pizzaplex animatronics.  ( repost with more detail. )
as per usual, these are merely a rough basis for when no other writer is involved.  I always adjust to portrayals and am delighted to discuss unique dynamics that work for us !  using they / them for the gang because I can.
Tumblr media
foreword —  as a whole, stella treats the animatronics as people on an emotional and mental level but fully acknowledges their inner differences.  she will use technical terms and take advantage of their mechanical nature for their benefit, such as offering to turn off their sensory input until whatever causes them discomfort is fixed.  stella recognizes this is not too different from anesthesia for humans, but she specifically uses language appropriate for a mechanical being despite considering them living entities.  ( she also begins considering them and the other employees her family, and god forbid anyone mess with that. )
Tumblr media
bonnie —   very good friends !  they’re not her bonnie  —  the one she loved on the recordings  —  but nonetheless a purple bunny she favours.  working alongside them was practically a dream come true and had her a bit starstruck at the beginning.  occasionally struggles to remind herself that they are their own person and not just a replacement  ( compares them sometimes.  does not mean to.  is working on it ).   determined to find out what caused their decommission.  in the verse where stella is the one who decommissioned them, she does not remember.
freddy —   dad ?  sorry.  dad ?  sorry.  da—  they said  ‘ well done, superstar ‘  to her once and that’s all it took.  here’s ur new daughter.  memes aside, genuinely respects and trusts them, occasionally confiding her anxieties in them.  one of the few that get to see beyond all the glitter and joy.
chica —   loves chatting with them between breaks and often ask for feedback on her recent ideas for confectionery decorations, baked or otherwise !  this is a bit of unconscious projecting on stella’s part because she grew up watching the chica that was known for holding a cupcake, but she will engage in literally any topic with them, just enjoying their company.
roxy —   loves to race with them, either on free days or the rare chance during breaks, but is especially fond of the salon and doing makeovers.  considers them akin to an older sibling figure and appreciates the competitive spirit they get her into, but makes sure to give them a lot of positive encouragement and always joins in when they praise themselves.
monty —   considers them a good friend and loves messing around with them much like you would with a sibling.  loves climbing on them because she knows they can take it.  with portrayals that adhere to the rumors about monty’s involvement in bonnie’s decommision, she will unfortunately harbor an instinctual suspicion towards them and thus her affection will be much more surface level than usual.
daycare attendant —   above all else, fascinated with their design and its duality.  distinctly treats their two modes as different people, but acknowledges that they share visual and auditory input and may refer to events that ocurred while the other was fronting.
the sun she gets along with incredibly well, their high energies bouncing off of one another, though she loves causing child-friendly mischief to get a rise out of them.  ( has definitely been sent to timeout before. ) usually only sees them when she’s filling for maintenance or delivering snacks for the kids, but makes an effort to check in now and then.  she is absolutely delighted to have someone share her enthusiasm for the littlest things and especially creative activities many consider childish, but can sometimes be too reckless for the attendant’s liking.
the moon, on the other hand, she has met even less and never truly outside parts & services because  1) you do not disturb nap time, and  2) stella is afraid of the dark.  slightly unsettled by them because of their association with the dark, but also appreciates their presence because it tempers her high — strung energies, inadvertendly making her slow down for once.  an oddly calming impact.  ( this assumes pre-virus )
map bot —  has punched them at least thrice by now out of surprise.  profusely apologizes for it every single time, but is also begging management to let the techs  —  or her !  —  tone down their ... enthusiasm.  because the bot themselves either does not want to listen or simply does not have the capacity.  stella wagers the latter.
staff bots —  quite likes them because they help out a lot and loves making a game out of dancing between them whenever they do happen to get in the way, usually when she has to stay late and they already begin their tasks.
DJ to be added, but tl;dr absolutely loves the guy !

Speed Limits (WiFi and Ethernet)
The most clear thing to guide your consideration toward is a switch's speed.
Be that as it may, you shouldn't take everything composed on the switch's crate at face esteem. The switch's presentation is straightforwardly affected by different variables.
For instance, the producer can brag about the switch supporting up to 3500 Mbps. Yet, without a decent remote norm, it's simply going to frustrate your ISP's latent capacity.
Remote and multi-band principles
The WiFi standard is perhaps the main things to pay special mind to.
Switches for gaming execute the most recent innovation like WiFi 5 and Wifi 6 (802.11ac and 802.11ax, individually) - it will extract the most from your ISP and convey the most ideal speed for countless gadgets.

QoS
QoS adjust the approaching and active data transfer capacity for each gadget associated with a WiFi organization. For example, you can arrange the switch to focus on gaming applications for any remaining associations. With the best WiFi switch for gaming, you can fundamentally improve the speed in-game after some dabbling in with QoS settings.
MU-MIMO

• allows you to see the rundown of gadgets associated with the WiFi organize and assign traffic
Handling power
Here's the reality. Gaming switches with amazing CPUs can deal with a bigger number of associations and utilize further developed programming. Therefore, by going for an all the more impressive gadget with more RAM, you will bring down ping in games much further.

What makes TP-Link Archer C5400X stand apart from the opposition? We believe it's the right blend of cost and productivity, combined with outstanding amongst other MU-MIMO available (we previously addressed the MU-MIMO).
This is a Tri-band switch, which implies it's anything but's an additional 5 GHz channel that you can allot solely for your gaming needs. In addition, you get a horde of LAN (8 ports!), WAN, and USB ports.
What might be said about the WiFi speed? As a matter of fact, it's very acceptable – timing up to 2187 Mbps on the 5 GHz band, which positions it exceptionally among different gadgets in this value range. The 2 GHz channel is likewise very dependable - its speed can get up to 1000 Mbps over a decent reach.
Do you like to play utilizing a VPN administration (or perhaps you need it to get to certain area bolted games or entryways)? Then, at that point, you will profit of the OpenVPN include. A committed innovation can secure up the virtual organization for up to multiple times.
On the drawback, this gaming switch doesn't highlight a high level tech to diminish inertness like its rivals. Be that as it may, TP-Link Archer C5400X ought to be all that could possibly be needed for most multiplayer FPS games.

Nighthawk XR500 Pro Gaming Router is the main Netgear switch made considering gaming. For what reason is it on our rundown?

Consider the possibility that you need to precisely check the ping in specific games. Forget about it! Netgear Nighthawk XR500 Pro Gaming Router highlights a standout amongst other web interfaces for a gaming switch we at any point ran over.
If we somehow managed to grumble, it is because of a normal long-range execution of the gadget. In any case, it's outstanding amongst other WiFi switches for gaming in its value range.
Netgear web interface
Multi-reason Tri-band
Specialized Specifications:
Do you believe that the two groups are insufficient for you? Then, at that point, we have uplifting news. Netgear Nighthawk X6 (R8000) switch offers three WiFi groups, one of which can be committed to gaming. In the mean time, it has every one of the highlights you've generally expected from a quality gaming switch (additionally, a phenomenal UI).
This switch shares the majority of the Nighthawk XR500 Pro model's benefits however augments the reasonable download and transfer speed. In other words in the event that you are utilizing a 5 GHz channel.
We should take note of that this gadget has a beautiful dull 2.4 GHz (particularly at long-range). To capitalize on Netgear Nighthawk X6, it's ideal to adhere to the 5 GHz band.
Essentially, this switch is valued somewhat higher than it's archetype. Just barely, as you may already know. However, enough so we can't consider it a modestly evaluated switch. All things considered, Netgear Nighthawk X6 is outstanding amongst other WiFi switches in the event that you are hoping to make a long series of wins in Apex Legends or CoD: Warzone.
Best mid-range
Specialized Specifications:
Searching for the best switch for different gadgets and gaming? Zyxel Armor Z2 is absolutely an extraordinary competitor that is more than fit for 4K streaming, fast perusing, and playing web based games – regardless of whether you do the entirety of that simultaneously!
The primary thing you are likely going to see is the switch's plan. However, what grabs our eye is the exhibition. Obviously, you are getting the standard gaming-focused highlights. Nonetheless, it likewise supports Qualcomm's StreamBoost – a sound and effective option in contrast to QoS.
What might be said about the speed? Zyxel Armor Z2 can get up to 2500 Mbps on 5 GHz in the right climate. The reach, nonetheless, is marginally uninspiring. In the interim, the 2.4 GHz band functions admirably as far as both speed and compelling reach.
The best part about this gaming switch is its capacity to focus on WiFi flags and focus on traffic to explicit applications. Seeing as it's a tri-band switch, you can expect a devoted gaming 5 GHz channel to be available to you. Also – this switch is very simple to set up and arrange because of a clear UI.
How to Set Up QoS to Achieve Better Speed?
We previously referenced how QoS could speed up Internet speed for specific applications. Presently, we should perceive how you can do it on the switches talked about above. Try not to stress - it will not take long (and you don't should be a tech-master to do it).
We trust this article will help you track down the best WiFi switch for gaming. In any case, imagine a scenario where you are as yet vacillating on the off chance that you should purchase

Okay so my RQG liveblogging and listening has completely fallen to the wayside in recent weeks. With things the way they are my work load at my job has literally doubled, and it’s been hard to listen to podcasts in general as I work recently let alone take notes to liveblog with. And then also my phone broke on top of that which threw an extra wrench in things. (Also all my friends have been constantly pestering me to play TTRPGs because they have nothing to do so most of my free time has been spent rolling dice.) I haven’t even been able to check the RQG discord! But I’m doing my damndest! So here’s a massive post of basically all my thoughts on the Cairo arc!
Also oops it ended up being over 1000 words because I love to ramble so everything is under a cut!
So I met Hamid’s family. Finally. Under terrible and tense circumstances, but I finally got a proper read on them nonetheless. Ever since Hamid’s rather extreme reaction to the fake “we’re proud of you!” note back in Paris, I have been just extremely suspicious of them. And after 0.02 seconds of experience their family dynamic it all made sense. Quiet but loving mother. Extremely capable sister doing her best to break away from the family business (and therefore the family dysfunction), extreme mess of an older brother who has way too much on his shoulders, the twins who are just kids trying to be kids. And then Hamid’s dad. Allergic to affection. No fun allowed. High expectations. And then also no one talks because classic rich people family. (Fuck Downton Abbey can we get an extended series on just the Al-Tehans?) More on them later.
Finally met a Meritocrat. Face to face. And my instant gut reaction was EVIL AWFUL TERRIBLE DOWN WITH THE MERITOCRACY VIVA LA REVOLUTION! And that’s despite the fact that this Meritocrat was nothing but charming and warm. (Me? Have problems with authority? Never! Could you even imagine?)The whole thing just sent shivers down my spine. All the pomp and circumstance surrounding the meeting? The robes etc.? it felt very pseudo-religion. Obviously these dragony jerks aren’t literally outright saying “HELLO HUMANITY WE ARE YOUR GODS NOW.” but it doesn’t really need to be said does it? You know what their meddling with humanity feels like? It feels like the IRL effort of people to save the pandas. Here are these animals that are just dying out and seemingly refuse to save themselves so people have inserted themselves into the natural order of things and put pandas in captivity and also their captivity doubles as entertainment for people. (Disclaimer: this is a very negative seeming statement on the conservation of pandas and I am 100% behind the people trying to save them it is just the best metaphor I could come up with.) Anyway, eat the rich and also the Meritocrats.
Concerning the Cairo Meritocrat more specifically, am I the only one who got Zeus vibes? “Hi I’m Zeus and I will fuck anything that moves and meddle with the affairs of mortals constantly! It’s fine! I’m a god!” Of course I am making this rather strong assumption after one ten minute meeting with them. Just the whole “you wear your heritage well” statement gave me such the creeps! I didn’t like it! That and the whole keeping it quiet thing like. I don’t know. I just don’t like the whole thing. Bad vibes.
In good news though, Sasha is better! (I literally burst into tears when she sneakily ran back to the cleric who healed her for a quick hug. She’s so good. Ugh.) But of course, it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t wax poetic about the world building implications of resurrections being illegal. It’s a very interesting concept, immortality just casually existing in a place. One detail that I disagree with is that people seem generally okay with not having resurrection, and that there isn’t really a black market for it. I don’t think most people would be cool with that and take it lying down so easily. Especially if they had access to it before which seems to be the implication. The Meritocrats seem very black or white in their rulings on things. It’s like they just said to a spoiled child “If you can’t share your toys then no one gets any toys at all!” There needs to be room for more nuance in the world. Interestingly, I kind of agree with their premise that humanity will never “move on” so to speak if everyone can live forever and so on, but there has to be some sort of happy medium here!
Speaking of happy mediums, I have a bone to pick with our two local paladins. Inflexible morality just really grinds my gears! So much! But! I love love love that interparty conflict! We got a little taste of it with Hamid and Zolf, but the paladins turned the inflexibility up to 11 and broke the knob off. Things were left entirely unresolved, and there’s no way that whole conflict doesn’t absolutely explode at some point. It was so interesting listening to Grizzop struggle to justify his system of morality. He couldn’t really! But the thing is, the gods are real. Without a doubt they are real. There was a throw away line that never got addressed at all that was something along the lines of, “there are so many gods with so many differing morals, how do we know which one is right?” I REALLY hope this gets explored more. In all my world building for my homebrew setting I always paid extra attention to the dynamics between the gods and possible consequences of them. I love this shit so much.
Also, hey, fuck Barrett. Like for real though. He’s just so goddamn awful.
And while we’re at it, FUCK CARTER. GOOD GOLLY GOSH YALL. HOW CAN PEOPLE BE THIS AWFUL WITH NO SELF-AWARENESS???? Please tell me he never shows his face again. (Who am I kidding? I just said that now I bet he won’t go away.)
Ehem. Anyway. Hamid’s father. I was initially surprised by just how much he cares about his family. Willing to take the fall for them. For literal murder. Without a second thought. Without a question. But the more I thought about it, the more obvious it became that he really does care. It’s such a delicious example of grey morality and character nuance and just YES. Of course, just because he does in fact care does not excuse years of mistreatment and the actual disowning of Hamid. Fuck toxic masculinity yall.
Also, Hamid finally spilled his beans! And everything about him makes so much more sense. I am holding out going into more depth on my thoughts about this because it’s 100% giving me Taako vibes. And I’m expecting the true culpability to be revealed later on. Also the twins are sorcerers too! And they have no idea how lucky they are to have Hamid as a guide. That moment where Hamid talked about tutors for them meant so much more than appeared on surface level and I definitely got so teary.
Azu continues to be an absolute joy and a ray of sunshine in this shitty shitty world. I love her. I can’t wait to figure out more about her. May she never lose that enthusiasm. Please. Alex don’t break her too much.
And now we’re in Damascus pretending to be factory inspectors! Back to our regularly scheduled much smaller liveblog posts!

The Mentality of Adam Taurus
Tumblr media
Note: Before I start on this post, I would just like to say this point. This is not a post that excuses or tries to downplay Adam’s behaviour and abuse of Blake, as well as his actions against the people around him. I simply wanted to write what was going on in his mind and delve deeper into this psychology with help of someone who actually has a degree in it!
Adam Taurus is most certainly a hated character in the FNDM and the show, and for good reason. He’s manipulative, violent, and abusive terrorist and wishes genocide and subjugation on innocent people. His actions have severe effects not only on his main victim, Blake, but Yang Xiao Long, the cutting off her arm by him leaving her with PTSD and exhaustion from her trauma.
But how exactly did he end up to be this person?
It’s very much the argument of not only nature vs nurture but also how underlying mental issues can impact on someone through the years. We’ll see through Adam’s history and see how the events of the past have had an affect not only on Adam, but the cycle of abuse in relation to his character.
Adam’s Childhood in the SDC
Tumblr media
Adam’s childhood has never been shown or explored in canon material, so much so that we don’t know at what age he was branded, escaped or even joined the White Fang, but we at least have some idea from what we’ve seen in RWBY and in other materials.
From his theme song; Lionized, and what Blake had given about the treatment of the Faunus under the SDC, we can safely assume that Adam’s childhood in the dust mines was not that of a normal childhood. His own parents were never mentioned, whether they were there at all or dead is unknown, but that would leave Adam in a very poor situation; no positive role models and people to teach him important lessons.
A child needs positive role models in their life because it’s through the people around them that the child learns not only how to act when around other people, but also how to behave in society as a whole. If that role model is not a positive influence, or even there at all, then the child is left either learning that toxic behaviours are okay or having to learn lessons themselves. This just increases the risk of the child learning the wrong lessons, but also has them landing hard when they failure without the adult there to cushion the consequences of the child messing up.
In the working environment of the SDC, Adam was probably raised in an environment that is extremely damaging to a child. His primary source of socialization, a role that is given to parents and siblings in a family dynamic, is not there in Adam’s case because all the workers are on the same level with the superiors of the company above them in a position of power that is canonically abused. This would leave Adam alone with no one around him to teach him like a parent would, and so he has had to stumble around while growing up in a home where someone would be abused severely if they did something wrong.
This culminates in his branding. The reasons behind his branding are unknown, but he has said that people have hurt him before, in all different ways, so it’s likely that this branding was done specifically to hurt Adam. This is an incredibly painful lesson for a minor to learn, and because of this isolation that Adam suffered from previously is never resolved, he would have had to deal with this traumatic experience alone. Eventually, it was just buried and never properly dealt with in a healthy way to allow Adam to move on from it.
This isolation stemmed from his childhood explains his behaviour later on in life. Adam had no one to rely on, he had no concrete role models to learn from or to be taught important lessons as he grew up, and this meant that when he eventually found someone that he loved, Blake, he treated the relationship in a toxic and abusive way.
First Years in the White Fang
Tumblr media
Adam had been in the White Fang for longer enough that he saw Ghira in charge, before he stepped down five years before the start of the series. Most of his years during this time is shown in his character short just before Volume 6′s release, and it’s where we’ll be looking at most for this part of the topic.
It’s unknown how old Adam was when he joined the White Fang, but he had already been branded by the time he did so. All throughout the short, we are shown how he changes over the years with his mental state and past trauma affecting him, as well as the events that happen to him. With the White Fang, Adam is finally in a group where he’s on equal ground with everyone except Ghira and Sienna, who are both in a position of power over the rest of White Fang members.
His sense of identity had been brought down from his time in the SDC as a worker, especially with his dehumanization because of his Faunus heritage, and it’s a problem in the White Fang that continues. He isn’t now seen as his own person, but rather a part of an overall group, and both Sienna and Ghira actually don’t seem to care enough to change this fact. In fact, both their behaviour would likely confused Adam even more just because of how contradictory they are.
This isn’t to say that they are at fault for Adam becoming a monster. His actions are his own, but I found it interesting on the effect it would have on him with how both leaders treated him. All of Ghira’s shown interactions with Adam have been negative reinforcement, and it comes at a time where we see that Adam actually isn’t as violent as he would be later on in his life. He handled all the humans attacking the Faunus group in an effective non-life threatening way, the only life he takes comes when he had no other choice, and he would believe that it’s the only way he can protect Ghira.
So when Ghira chastises him for doing so, Adam’s body language shows that he’s actually ashamed of what he did. His head is hung low, his shoulders are down and he doesn’t look up at Ghira. I noticed while watching that Ghira doesn’t actually explain why Adam’s actions were wrong in a way that Adam would take in, he’s more angry and scolding rather than calmly explaining. Going off what we said about Adam not having someone in his early life teaching him right from wrong and explaining why he couldn’t do certain things, it shows just why Adam doesn’t seem to take the advice to heart after that.
I’m not saying that it’s Ghira’s responsibility to teach Adam because of his age and the fact that he isn’t Ghira’s son, but I am saying that this behaviour does have an effect on Adam nonetheless. If Ghira doesn’t explain something in a constructive way, how is Adam supposed to learn a lesson that he’s never been taught?
All of a sudden, Sienna’s positive reinforcement completely contradicts what Ghira is saying. All of a sudden what Adam did was right rather than wrong, and he is clearly surprised that people who previously did nothing when Ghira told him off were cheering what Adam did. He would definitely stick to any positive interaction he can get, and that’s why he goes to Sienna over Ghira. Both of these would no doubt confuse him even more because they both validate and invalidate his actions at the same time, and without the emotional maturity that he should have at that age,
I’d also like to add that his mask also adds to the dehumanization Adam feels, and it’s telling that he continues to wear it even when he’s in the White Fang, a place he’s supposedly among allies and fellow Faunus. Him pushing other Faunus to wear them could be Adam pushing his own dehumanization onto others, as well as the obvious implication that he’s ashamed of his scar.
Egotistical and Egocentric
There are plenty of characters that I would call egotistical, most of all Jacques, but I do have to explain the differences in which egotistical and egocentric are used and how it applies to Adam.
Egotistical is a person who is excessively conceited or obsessed with themselves. It’s basically someone who thinks of themselves in high regard.
Egocentric is a person who thinks more of themselves in terms of their problems, showing an inability to take into other peoples’ accounts.
Because of this, egotistical is more self-importance while egocentric is more isolationist, and I would use the term egocentric to describe Adam as opposed to egotistical. His whole problem is what Blake told Sun in Volume 5, that Adam had been so hurt in the past that he can no longer see past that trauma and would instead hurt the world in the exact same way. He’s grown spiteful and believes that his problems are the only ones that matter, and that everyone else who’ve suffered are weak and pathetic.
Adding onto that, the term egocentric is also applied to the period in a child’s life, usually between the ages of 2 - 7, where they have a very black and white view of the world in which they’re the only one that matters. Reading into Adam’s behaviour and words later in his life, and I can pretty safely say that he’s never been raised out of that part of his life because of his situation. This stage going into the White Fang where he’s now being praised for his actions doesn’t push Adam to grow out of it, and we’re now left with a man who reacts violently when people challenge those same decisions.
If we start looking at his actions with these points in mind, then it makes his character and mindset much more interesting.
Foil to Yang & Their Relationship to Blake
Tumblr media
Adam serves as a foil to multiple people in RWBY; Sun Wukong, Ilia Amitola, and Yang Xiao Long. Because of the other two either not having a deep enough backstory form to compare, or being a less major character story wise, I will be focusing solely on the foil between Adam and Yang.
Yang was very much raised in a normal household with Summer Rose and Taiyang, but even then it wasn’t completely happy after Summer’s disappearance and Taiyang’s depression. Despite this rough part of her life, Yang was still raised with a deeply mature outlook on life despite her seemingly carefree nature, she is deeply empathetic and is even the voice of reason during her time in Beacon. She understood that Ruby needed other people to bring her out of her shell, and was willing to given Blake a chance to explain after her revelation over being a Faunus. It’s clearly obvious that Taiyang, and Summer in her early years, had managed to raise Yang past that stage that Adam has been stuck in.
On the other hand, Adam didn’t have that same security in a family and was raised in a strictly abusive environment. This would have the effect on him not only knowing what healthy relationships looked like and believe that what was done to him is the right thing to do, but also meaning that Adam lacked that same maturity and empathy that Yang herself possesses. He’s unable to comprehend people who don’t think the same way that he does, and because of that he simply believes that their wrong in thinking that way.
It’s most apparent in his interaction with Blake during the fall of Beacon:
Blake: I never wanted this! I wanted equality! I wanted peace! Adam: What you wanted was impossible!
He can’t understand why Blake would want equality or peace with the humans, because that’s not what he wanted. In his mind, because her beliefs contradicted his own, that meant that Blake was wrong in thinking so and that what she wanted could never be achieved.
This difference in their raising continues on to how they both handle their similar fears; the fact that they don’t want to be left alone, and how this fear had then affected their relationship with Blake. Adam and Blake’s relationship was not only incredibly toxic and damaging for Blake, but only served as something that Adam could use to chain the one person he cared about to himself. His idea of love is emotional manipulation and gaslighting, and when the person of his affections acts out, he quickly shuts it down with shouting or physical violence, because that’s what’s been done to him when he did the same thing, and he had never learnt that behaving this way is not healthy.
That fear of being alone is in direct connection to the fact that when Adam had been severely traumatised, he was left to deal with the consequences alone. The thought that Blake would leave him in that situation would push him to do whatever he could to keep her with him, and when she ultimately left him, he couldn’t handle that isolation again and instead turned it to anger because he thought it was Blake’s fault for leaving, that it was her fault for not behaving or loving him enough. It’s very similar to Yang’s idea that everyone ultimately leaves them in the end, but it’s how they deal with this fear is what sets them apart so much.
Unlike Yang, Adam never got over this fear.
Yang herself had been shaped so much by people leaving her behind that she has severe abandonment issues, that like Adam she took Blake leaving her negatively because of this past trauma. However, unlike Adam’s reasonings being that it’s all Blake’s fault for leaving, Yang was only angry at Blake because she wasn’t told why she left, just like she never knew why her biological mother left either. Yang never thought that she had the right for Blake to stay, whereas Adam did.
Even with her abandonment issues, Yang is clearly miles better mentally than Adam even after her dismemberment and developing PTSD. She has never took out her frustrations on anyone around her, rather internalizing the problems and going on to help others, and even when she snaps at Weiss and Ruby in Volume 5, she’s clearly remorseful and goes to remove herself from the situation.
Adam does not know how to deal with fear, frustration or anger in a healthy way like Yang does, and because of this he instead takes it out on people in the way that it had been taken out on him, because that’s all he knows. He shows in knowledge in when he’s overstepped a boundary, and when he does, Adam shows no remorse in his actions. Even when he rarely apologizes for his behaviour, such as in his short, he does so in a way that the attention is brought back to him and his own problems in that egocentric manner.
I find it interesting in how they handle their decline in mental health. Whereas Adam keeps going down in this downward spiral, ultimately ending up in this place of isolation just like he was in the beginning, Yang ultimately pushed herself to recover and surrounded herself with her friends and family. She ends up in a better place with companionship to offset Adam’s isolation, and it’s this distinction that separates their relationship to Blake.
Adam’s relationship with her is now completely destroyed, and it ends with Blake finally killing Adam in self defense. Yang’s relationship with her is restored, and they both can start to recover after the trauma they both have suffered.
The Cycle of Abuse
Adam’s not the only character to portray this subject in RWBY, especially when Salem was given an entire episode where we saw what she went through and why she developed into this villain, but he was the first abuser to appear in the show with his debut in the Black Trailer.
Ultimately, he embodies the very real idea that a person who had been abused and hurt in the past is at risk of becoming that same abuser to another victim later on down the road. His branding and childhood in the SDC wasn’t an excuse for him to become the monster he did, but they did explain why his mind state had decayed to the point that we saw in the show.
I know that some people actually don’t really like his writing, and I will admit that at first I particularly didn’t, but after going through this post, I feel that at least his actions aren’t completely random or one-dimensional now. To me at least, they make sense given what he’s been through, and I believe that this is what makes him at least a competent villain in the writing sense even if some of his writing still doesn’t appeal to me.
That’s all I really have to say about this character. I likely have missed something in my jumbled notes, but honestly this is the basic jist of what I wanted to get across. Please, don’t take any of this as myself saying that everyone except Adam is responsible for his behaviour, because ultimately it was Adam’s decision to do all the things he did. I’m only offering explanations, never excuses.
Either way, thanks for reading this!

The double self: Doctor Aldersen & Mr. Robot, the false myth of progress and the overthrowing of the capitalistic pattern through divided personalities.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mr. Robot, the much acclaimed American drama thriller, is a television series created by Sam Esmail and aired for the first time in 2015.
Plot
The series revolves around the miserable and lonely life of Elliot Alderson, a young security engineer, who works for one of the richest and most powerful corporations in the world, the E-Corp, through his own point of view, which is heavily influenced by his social anxiety and his chronic paranoia. One day, he is recruited by a mysterious anarchist known as Mr. Robot and joins his team of hacktivists known as fsociety. They plan to cancel consumer debt by destroying the data of the E-Corp (which Elliot calls “Evil Corp”) and to inspire a revolution that will ultimately lead to an equal distribuition of wealth and to the downfall of the capitalistic pattern.
Tumblr media
A double first-person narrator
The story of the revolution is told through a first-person narrator, which is Elliot himself, and through his thinking process. Elliot, however, has serious dissociative disorder, anxiety and paranoia, resulting in each episode being one big paranoid delirium, and the viewer shuffles from reality to illusion, not knowing what actually happen and what was just product of Elliot’s mind. Nonetheless, Elliot perceives the viewer as a product of his mind, talking to him and talking to himself at the same time, so that the narrator and the viewer are one and the same, two parts of the same mind.
Tumblr media
Although Elliot's mind and his imaginary confidant is already a division of his mind, this is not the only way his personality gets split up. In fact, later in the series, after finding out Mr. Robot is his (supposedly) dead father, his sister Darlene and his friend Angela see him talking frantically to apparently no one, bleeding and severely hurt. When asked what he was doing, he admits he was talking to Mr. Robot, his father, whom he pushed out of a window in a rage tantrum - as his conscience comes back, he finds out Mr. Robot is no one but himself, and that he threw himself out of a window during one of his manic episodes. So, Mr. Robot is Elliot's alter-ego: he's the unconscious, instinctive part of his soul, taking over his mind to make up for Elliot's inadequacy and introversion; unlike Elliot, Mr. Robot is bold, irreverent, loud, a born leader. A modern Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde scenario, where Elliot hadn't known he'd been the one to plot the downfall of capitalism out of interiorized spite and disdain for the utilitarian society.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mr. Robot can be cold-blooded, tyrannical, hateful, harsh; he hurts Elliot and the people he loves. Not unusually Elliot shows his willingness to free himself from his alter-ego, resorting to morphine and several other expedients, and even to the strict regimen of prison (calling himself guilty of hacking and privacy violation), ignoring him when he appears, not letting him take control. However, Mr. Robot is controlling and an undeniable part of him, as cruel and destructive as he is, and he can never get rid of him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Although Mr. Robot, with his merciless and fierce behaviour, represents Elliot’s opposite, he is still part of him. Not to mention, Elliot perceives Mr. Robot as his dead father, whom he deeply loved and cared for - Elliot relies on him and never actually shuts him down. Mr. Robot saved him on several episodes, and Elliot loves him, as twisted as their relationship is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other characters
Even though they’re not clinical cases, every character in Mr. Robot needs to be mentioned, even if briefly, in this article, because of their divided selves. As a matter of fact, characters in Mr. Robot don’t change - they’re anything but dynamic - but as the story goes on - so, as Elliot progressively understands what is going on around him - they reveal their real personalities, and their real intentions, which might be the complete opposites of what the viewer thought at the beginning of the series. The clearest example might be Tyrell Wellick, Elliot’s “rival”, who in the first two episodes shows his cold, detatched manners. When you first see him, you might think he’s the typical ambitious and merciless villain, all perfect and with a heart of stone.
Tumblr media
In reality, as the story goes on, his façade falls, and he reveals his extremely emotional and moody personality, levelling this impassible, god-like villain to a simple, flawed human being.
Tumblr media
Another example is Whiterose: professional, calm Chinese Prime Minister of State Security by day, fierce and fearless leader of one of the most powerful hacker groups in the world at night.
Tumblr media
The real illusion: the false myth of progress
Elliot: You’re not real. Mr. Robot: Is any of it real? I mean, look at this, look at it! A world built on fantasy! Synthetic emotions in the form of pills! Psychological warfare in the form of advertising! Mind altering chemicals in the form of food! Brainwashing seminars in the form of media! Controlled isolated bubbles in the form of social networks. Real? You want to talk about reality? We haven't lived in anything remotely close to it since the turn of the century! We turned it off, took out the batteries, snacked on a bag of GMOs, while we tossed the remnants into the ever expanding dumpster of the human condition. We live in branded houses, trademarked by corporations, built on bipolar numbers, jumping up and down on digital displays, hypnotizing us into the biggest slumber mankind has ever seen. You'd have to dig pretty deep, kiddo, before you can find anything real. We live in a kingdom of bullsh*t, that even you have lived in for far too long. So don't tell me about not being real: I'm no less real than the f*cking beef patty in your Big Mac. As far as you’re concerned, Elliot, I am very real.
One can argue that one purpose of the TV drama is that of showing how Elliot’s mind is no more messed up than the society he lives in: Elliot’s delirium blends in so well with modern society that the viewer is not sure of the dividing line between the two. He always expresses his disappointment and dissatisfaction of our unjust, contemporary society; the way we’re being controlled, the way we’re not even conscious of our enslavement, the fact that progress and materialism have made us nothing but brainwashed lapdogs, the fact that only a small percentage of the population can actually call themselves rich, the fact that money overcomes relationships. And at the same time, it’s the same reality that allows us safety and control. Our society is divided as well.

The representation of the Middle Eastern world in Mr. Robot
Tumblr media
In a show that clearly shows today's multi-faceted Western world, it is impossible not to show the very different Middle Eastern reality, and talk about it. The main character, although born and grown-up in America, is of mixed race, and his feelings and problems are based on the creator's very own experiences growing up as a Muslim immigrant.
The best representation, however, is given off by two other characters: Sunil and Shama, two hacktivists of fsociety fighting to destroy the Western system that continuously discriminates them, to avenge the failing American Dream their families wanted to pursue but failed because of America’s interiorized racism. Many developments this season were extremely direct critiques of President Trump and his supporters. In an episode, Shama and Sunil, on the run, are framed by the Chinese as Iranian terrorists and used as scapegoats to cover their evil actions. Elliot knows the two of them weren't part of any terrorist plan, but what he doesn't know is that the Chinese set them up to divert attention from their leader's political plans and drumming up public support for the unlikely candidate she is backing in the upcoming presidential election in an effort to sow chaos and discord: Donald J. Trump. And the worst thing is Elliot knows he's powerless, since the medias are already targeting them as terrorists and people will unlikely question it, helplessly falling into the propaganda hole. Nearly through the end of the season, Elliot finds the courage to visit Shama and Sunil's families to give out his condolences. The episode is one of the most sentimental and meaningful of the whole serie. “This country now blames Muslims for everything,” says Shama's father as he sorts through their belongings, as they're about to move out. “There’s no room for us here anymore.” But later on, as Elliot decides to kill himself by the shore, he meets Mohammed, Shama's little brother, who asks for a trip to the movies. While there, Elliot recreates with Mohammed the same memories he once had with his own father, but the movies are his memory lane, not Mohammed's. The boy runs away, and Elliot finds him praying in the mosque, the happy place he and his sister grew in. There, they have a meaningful conversation — Mohammed calls Elliot out on his suicidal tendencies and on the Western society’s individualistic pattern (”Why do you always talk about yourself?”), and Elliot understands he has something to live for. Maybe for the first time, we don't see a place of indoctrination, but a loving place to go to find hope —and so Mohammed says: “Did you know I could be President of the United States? My sister couldn’t be. She wasn’t born here. My mom and dad couldn’t either. I’m the only person in my family who could be President. Isn’t that cool? If I were President, I would be able to stay here. In the house we live in. I would find a way to bring back my sister. I’d put the real bad guys in jail. And I’d make everyone eat Pop Tarts for dinner. And make everyone be nice to me.”, and Elliot realizes there are still things left that are worth living for.

Three Inches of Heaven [Pt.3]
Tumblr media
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | TBA
Pairing: Yoongi x Reader, Jimin x Reader Genre: Time travel, romance, Royalty AU (Mature themes ahead) | Length: 4.6k
Summary: A bizarre time-warp sends an unsuspecting woman hurtling towards an era of cunning plots, political strife, and strict societal hierarchy—it appeared the world between a few centuries hadn’t been too different after all.
“You there! Servant boy!”
You had only just resumed your descent to the gardens of the castle when a man’s shrill, authoritative dictation had echoed off the stone walls and into the hollowness in the bed of your ear. It was Jungkook who halted first with a sharp upward tug of his shoulder, startled out of the daze which you had left him in, before he was pivoting on the balls of his feet, the wind of his long, flowy robes breezing past you. You followed his motions only a second belated.
“Where is your mis—” Upon the rotation of your body, the natural widening of your scope of vision had accommodated an urgently advancing figure, which had, for a split second, registered in your mind as a cotton ball of blue and white. But as your own profile had come into his sight line, the figure had abandoned all movement, staggering to a stop while his extended index levitated upwards, pointing obnoxiously at you. “My gods, you look ghastly!
Though you barely felt it, you knew your expression must have fallen flat, an indication of unamusement which the man had caught in time with the slow dissolve of his initial mock. He returned his arm back to his side, lips forming a neutral line as the remnants of a smile faded back into taut, golden skin.
“I’d almost mistaken you for one of the servants. They have this walk, you see, slouched and defeated and honestly quite a bit pathe—”
“What is it, Taehyung?”
The man adjusted himself thoroughly this time, shrugging his shoulders straight, hardening his spine. The neutrality on his face had descended into that of sheer boredom, and perhaps hints of annoyance. “It's your brother,” he replied dryly, peering down at you through hooded eyes, “he wants you in his chambers. There was a raven.”
“A raven?” You echoed, anxious. In other words, a text. From somewhere—far. “What about?”
There was a dismissive shake of his head, and the deepening of utter disinterest. “I was not privy. You should see him quickly. Matters with the capital, I think it.”
It was at that moment that you had felt an innate tug at your body, the flexing of the muscles in your neck angling your head towards the man that once stood beside you, and had by that point retreated to a humbled position at the rear of the conversation. Jungkook too, had answered to the call of his own instincts, his wide, mahogany eyes shifting to meet yours, your gazes connecting and igniting in unspoken exchange.
“Best run along now.”
Returning to the nobleman before you, you had gently dipped your chin, according this close kin and friend of yours a temporary farewell, before you were once more treading down the corridor from which you had come. You hadn't made it too far before you were slowing your pace, allowing Jungkook to naturally fall into step beside you. The man was still shackled to the dramatic event from earlier, unable to fight off whatever profound internal monologue that was ongoing in his head.
His expression, which was a cross somewhere between apologetic and guilty, was almost enough to inspire sentiments of your own apology, from having perhaps overreacted at the discovery of something which you had apparently already known. You were not so foolish enough now to fail to recognize the mirror of dynamics between past and present—for the record, the “past” was now and the “present” was the future. Jungkook, be him the cheating ex-boyfriend or the loyal, soft-spoken yet not any less mischievous servant, had consistently managed to uproot you from the grounds you had stood, however momentary.
He mentioned it once; that it was not anyone’s fault that you held so little belief in the things you felt. If you were mad, be mad; if you were annoyed, be annoyed.
“You're the one going belly-up every time we have a fight and you're blaming me for always running you over!”
“Jungkook.” Alas, you had arrived before the heavy, ancient wooden doors of your brother’s private quarters. The travel here had not been short, his room was probably located in a different wing altogether. The smoke-like whispers of musing servants and the hubbub of market noises could not permeate the atmosphere here, the dimly lit stone corridors felt almost soundproof, silencing the very air which wrapped glove-like around your body, tight and warm.
“Yes, m’lady?”
Your hushed exchange was exponentially amplified by the near-vacuum which you stood within, a place where even your soft breaths could be heard like birds in trees. You were careful not to say too much
“If there had been a better choice, I would have fought for it, right?”
If it were possible, the man receded even deeper into his own silence, brooding longer, wandering further. The shadows on his face danced as whimsically as the flickering flames of the torches that lit the walls, casting his complexion in a fickle, part-ethereal orange glow. Jungkook seemed so far away that the baritone vibrations from his throat traveled to you underwater-like, muted and subdued.
“Yes, I believe that.”
You took your lips between your teeth, clenching briefly before you had permitted the servant an affirmative nod. Then you had knocked, had received permission to enter with a muffled, “come in”, from the room’s owner, and had left behind whatever you could of the Jungkook from yesteryear, determined more than ever to go through with the motions of this time if it meant returning your spirit where it rightfully belonged—
in death.
Namjoon’s quarters wasn't anything like you had expected, yet oddly enough, the state of the room didn't come off as surprising. There were the stone-cut windows and wide-open balcony doors identical to yours, but the similarities had ended there with the deep, redwood furniture that starkly contrasted the beiges and whites which made up the aesthetics of your own room. The varnish on the poles of his four-poster bed seemed to have their own shimmer, completely unreliant on the multiple torches that lit the perimeters of the room, and the two candles set up on each upper corner of the ostentatious, masculine study desk that sat perched right before the balcony.
The overall darker palette of the space was watered down by the soft, yellowed pages of open books, unfastened scrolls and loose paper. These were strewn all over the room, across every surface; his bed, the ottoman positioned at the foot of it, his own little round table, complete with a tea set that only peeked barely out from under the foots-long scroll that hung curtain-like down to the floor. The chaos was centralized at his desk, where your brother sat with unhindered focus, ultimate concentration, poring over a tiny, seemingly inconspicuous rectangle scroll that he held between his fingers.
But upon your full entry into the quarters, the last of your long, flowing robes tucked in before the firm shut of the heavy doors behind, Namjoon’s supreme attention had shifted towards you, at no delay at all, with the lifting of his head, the leveling of his worldly gaze with your own, quivering one. You were nervous, but what for?
“Taehyung’s a better messenger than I thought,” he said, smiling easily into his words. “Come, sit.”
Only then did you regain control over your limbs, putting one foot before the other under the floor-length skirt of your clothes, shuffling, essentially, towards one of the two upholstered, red leather armchairs that stood opposite your brother’s own seat.
“He said there was a raven.” Hearing the use of this phrase had not struck you quite as strange as saying it yourself, the combination of words being something completely unheard of in your own time. Nonetheless, you had ignored the rise of goosebumps on your arms, and pushed on, “from the capital.”
Namjoon chuckled idly, his hands trying to administer some order to the mess on his table. Books were shut and stacked, papers were shuffled and arranged to the side, until he had cleared out a small surface area where his busy hands could then rest, clasped in a loose, prayer-like position. Still according you a kind, brotherly grin, he continued, “he’s also better at inferencing than I thought.” He briefly released his hands from their place to hold up the little scroll he had been reading earlier, dangling it in the air before setting it back down, clasping his hands once more. “He’s right. A raven from the royal family, to be precise.”
“Is that good news?”
“I’m afraid not, sister. The capital has sent out ravens to all the Houses of the kingdom, very soon they’ll be having soldiers travel to every city, town and village with official announcements.” Though you would later come to know that the pause he held between his sentence then was that of mournful regret, at that moment it had felt nothing but dramatic, pulling you to the edge of your seat.
“The king is ailing. There seems to be not much time left. With that, naturally, the royal family will wish to find a match for the crown prince, produce an heir, secure the throne—a crown princess selection.”
Good lord, was all that occurred to you in that instance. You had spent barely half a week in this time, but guessing the implications of this was no rocket science.
“Every unmarried maiden in the kingdom must be sent to the capital for screening. I suppose girls of certain ages will be foregone under usual circumstances but this selection will be very different.” Unknown, perhaps, to himself, Namjoon began to fidget—his thumbs twiddling in circles, his pupils shifting every so often. “To hasten the selection, girls will be nominated by the king’s Council, the names of these girls will be entered into a ballot, from which only five candidates will be drawn. As the daughter of a very prominent House and- past… member of Council, you are very likely to be nominated.”
The downward spiral of his tone and the startling recession of the lighthearted, welcoming smile he sported all but minutes ago could hint at only one thing—he didn't want you anywhere near that selection. Or had this simply been your imagination?
“B- but it's only a ballot,” you replied, staggering, through your words, “nothing’s for sure.”
Why was he so worried?
Along with a world-weary sigh that parted his frowning lips, Namjoon’s entire posture had taken a 180-degree turn, abandoning the confident, straight-ruled frame which his spine and shoulders presented earlier, for a more down-to-earth, casual slouch. Though the defeat that hung ambiguously in the atmosphere was slightly unnerving, you found you much preferred this side of him. He had felt more brotherly like this than at any other time you had seen him.
“When you visited Silvercrest Palace with father and I two months ago, the queen had had a word with father in private. In truth, father had already known of the king’s poor health and the new selection arrangements from that point. She had asked a favour of him, which he later passed on to me.”
By that point Namjoon had forsaken all attempts to maintain any form of lordship or nobility, bringing one hand, that appeared wiry and bonier than usual, over his face, his features scrunched into that of utter exhaustion and defeat. This was not comforting in the slightest.
“She promised him that she would guarantee a successful draw of your name in the ballot, and from there, a smooth passage in ascending to crown princess, if you agree to let yourself be nominated. Kind as father may be, he was cruel to me in never making any sort of decision in this matter before his death. And the queen has sent, in secret, another scroll expecting a favourable reply.”
“Hang on, so… you mean we can refuse the nomination?” At this, Namjoon had scrubbed the hand down the expanse of his face, releasing a sigh through his nose before resting his head against a clenched fist. He looked so burned out. “Then why don't we simply refuse?”
“Considering that things are different this selection in that it's no longer an obligation… there are no laws that say we cannot reject a nomination. But more than that…” he was hesitant with his next words, glancing at you briefly before quickly averting his gaze elsewhere. What was wrong? “I didn't think you would ever consider refusing…”
You were ready to combust. What on bloody earth did he mean by that? Did he want you to enter the selection or not?
There was another sigh—yours this time. But you hadn't gotten as far as formulating even a word in your reply before Namjoon had spoken up.
“You've… changed, you know?” You frowned. “You're a lot, how should I say, calmer. It's like you aged a few years, gained maturity, become this… beautiful, grown woman.”
“Namjoon—”
“I have to be truthful with you,” he said, adjusting himself so that he sat a tad straighter, more somber. “I don't want you back in the palace. It was so hard to get you out and- and I fear what returning to such an environment might do to you. Some things… are just better forgotten.”
“Namjoon,” you declared firmly now, “you don't get to decide what memories I keep and what I let go of. Whatever it is… help me. Help me remember.”
You could feel the nervous palpitations of Namjoon’s heart from your position across his desk. You could feel it pulse around you, constricting and releasing, constricting and releasing; most of all you could feel the heat, the intensity with which he used in protecting you, sheltering your sights, choosing only the prettiest things to show you. He loved his sister—but god… you only wished you were her. Truly her.
“Father died in the palace. You almost lost your own life. I can't afford to lose any more family. You…” Bringing his two hands together, he had cupped your own resting ones, which were cold and clammy, in a sweaty but warm envelopment. You could feel it ebb into you, his plea and fear. Namjoon was just a boy too. “You're all I have left.”
“Then I just won't win. I just won't let myself be picked, that'll do, won't it? I can come home after that.” There was not much you could do but grasp back, your fingers threading with his. Under the pad of your thumb, you could feel the ripples of his pulse, vibrant and erratic. But somehow it had still felt like pulling at a fraying end of a cloth, the more you wanted to hold on to this, the more it came apart. His sister was long gone—he had lost everything. What much else could you do? Why were you even here?
“I wish that were the case but…” His eyes shut under the deep pinch of eyebrows, along with the instant drop of his shoulders, the release of yet another breath. “Of the five candidates, only the two who are eliminated in the first round will be sent home. It's quite impossible for you to fail to qualify—the first round looks at influence and status, only few can rival us in those aspects.
The remaining three, whether or not they become the princess, must remain on in the palace. Two will be concubines, forever sworn to the king’s imperial harem but will never be accorded the respect and attention a queen receives. As much as the prince loves you, rules and tradition will keep him from you. How can you expect me to stand and watch a girl who crosses plains on horseback faster than any man I've seen be placed behind a glass window, a puppet who dances in the queen’s shadow?”
“Then what- what do you want me to do, Namjoon?”
“Why don't you run?”
There were many worse fates to endure than being stuck in the body of a highborn girl, like ending up as a prostitute, or a debtor’s daughter, forced to beg on the streets—that was, if you even wanted to try and live.
You imagined suicide then would be much uglier than drowning in a pond dressed in silks and jewelry. You imagined your body would fester on the streets for days before anyone bothered to take notice, and it’d lay there a while more for the rats to have at it before anyone came to move you away, burn you somewhere at the edge of a forest along with the other bodies that no one thought to claim.
When you thought about that, running was not an option. Of course that wasn't to say that Namjoon would ever let you suffer a fate like that, even while on the run. But as bizarre as this occurrence might be, surely you must have been put in this body for a reason.
Perhaps you had not simply possessed it—perhaps this was a swap. The places of your “deaths” were both bodies of water, and—you were careful in thinking this—both had likely to be intentional.
Your fingers dipped shallowly into the icy cold waters of a black pond, swirling idly, drawing vague semi-circles in the water, the only light a shimmering silver crescent that flickered eerily in the ripples of water. In the back of your mind, you wondered if she was there on the other side—waking up frazzled and distraught in a foreign time, just like you had. You'd feel sorry for her, because unlike you, she has no one around her to ease her into it. If she tried to come back, would you be ejected out from this body like a CD?
You smiled at the thought.
But ultimately, it was the dramatic tail of your discussion with Namjoon that lingered in broken chunks in the front of your thoughts, punctuated by the hum of cicadas, winds rustling in the trees, the occasional soft pop! when the fish in the pond broke the surface.
Now in retrospect, you had gained a basket full of insight into the life you had taken over. These details were not given time to embed in your head before, but as you stood crouched in the silent garden in the wee hours of the morning, a destination found on your own accord after having creeped out of your chambers from sleeplessness, left to your own devices for the first time since, you had been given the space, both physical and mental, to afford any real thought to the bigger picture for your presence in this time.
This garden had been difficult to find. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that this place wasn't one that could be found by those who strove to find it, rather, it was stumbled upon, after various blind turns and throwing caution to the wind. The true owner of this body would have been familiar enough with her own home to know the exact location, but perhaps on her last night, it was the same aimless feet and thoughtless wandering that came to you that had claimed her as well.
Guesswork wouldn't have brought you this far without the information Namjoon had slipped to you unknowingly—or knowingly. Something about her father’s death had bothered this girl, more than it had affected Namjoon. It was strange, suspicious even, that something could happen at the same time and place to two prominent members, as Namjoon had mentioned, of the king’s court. You imagined this hidden factor was a secret that no one else knew but her, otherwise Namjoon would not have been so naïve as to deem her accident here at this pond a mere fall.
Something made her want to die. Something only she knew—and now she was gone. Lost to time.
The faceless, and thus far nameless (until your history lessons decide to come back to you), prince was also another pivotal piece of information. Her relationship with him was surely far from trivial if someone like the queen would interfere in favour of their development, going as far as to manipulate what should have been a fair selection regarding her son’s future. Although, the word fair here was subjective—every candidate would have their supporters, ministers, officials, relatives of the royal family, who would similarly fight for opportunities the same way the queen had promised to do for you. For her.
The prince loved her. Yet he had done nothing in reaching out to her after hearing of her “fall”—he must have known. Namjoon was in the capital then. But even that had something off about it.
Hearing his unspoken sentiments, there was no way he would return to a place so deeply entwined with the demise of his family if he were not forced to be there. Summoned, perhaps, by authorities greater than himself. Those weren't many, you learned, only few members of Council and the king could do so. Or perhaps, there was something he had to achieve, that the advantages the sacrifice would bring was enough to banish any hesitance from his contemplations.
“I thought I'd find you here.”
The slipping of another human voice in an atmosphere dominated by the sounds of nature had quite effectively shattered the little dream-like bubble of space you had created for yourself. A quick whip of your head around had you identifying this voice in no time at all. Jeon Jungkook.
“How did you know?” You said, rising to your feet. You were careful in stepping away from the edge of the pond, earlier which you had been leaning dangerously over.
“I came to replace the candles in your chambers. I knew they would burn out in the middle of the night. Didn't want you to be cold, m’lady.” He was standing at an awkward distance, three strides too far away, as if he were afraid, like you were disease-plagued. Or maybe it was he himself.
You nodded faintly in response, gaze falling downwards at a loss for words. It was then that you noticed that he had been carrying something, draped over his arms which were held at an angle against his sides. His usual stance. It was a cloak, you realised. And having followed your line of sight, glancing down, Jungkook seemed to recall this.
“Thought you would be out here a while. Would you like me to help you put it on, m’lady?”
“Yes, please.”
Jungkook only moved after a lag. Even then his movements were robotic and foreign, as if his limbs were borrowed and not quite a good match in his joints. You turned your back to him so he could drape the velvety fabric over your shoulders, your own hands reaching up to tie the strings in the front.
“Thank you,” you said, returning to face him.
“Was if an unfortunate conversation with your brother? Is that why you're out here?”
“No and yes.” You had then turned in the opposite direction, towards the stone bench that sat on the other side of the pond, trusting him to follow. Sweeping the train of your clothes under your weight, you sat on the further edge of the bench, leaving a space for the man to join you. Which he did, belatedly again, after a prompt with your eyes. “I learnt a lot just now. Namjoon admitted that there were certain memories he kept from me. I told him he couldn't decide that on my behalf.”
You paused at that moment, waiting to see if the implications would sink in. It appeared Jungkook was more perceptive than you gave him credit for, having treated him with biasness after your original experiences with him.
He visibly hesitated, his chin dropping, soft hair falling over his eyes, fingers fidgeting, his shoulders and frame rising and falling. A sigh—his sigh.
“It was I who pulled you from the pond, as I had recounted to your brother when he returned. But I was not wholly truthful with him, out of respect for you, m’lady.” The voice was soft as a murmur, but the moonlight in his round, boyish eyes burned at an intensity greater than the sun’s. This heat had only momentarily afflicted you when your gazes met and tore away with the split-second shift of his eyes, but it was a heat that warmed you so much more than the cloak that wrapped around your body.
“You had tied a stone to your ankles. I could only pull you after I had undone the knot. The weight of your clothes made it a difficult task on its own. They were not clothes you wear for the summer, m’lady. I left these details out of the story I told your brother. I assumed that if this decision of yours was something you would want to keep from a servant like me, all the more you wished the same for your brother. Unless another witness has told him otherwise, I suppose Lord Namjoon remains unaware of this truth.”
“Then how did you know where I would be?”
“I… I followed you, m’lady, even though you ordered to be left in peace for the morning. I must apologize for disobeying your instructions but I dared not leave you unguarded after your return from the palace. You were not the same girl that descended Light Hill for the first time. For sure I knew it was the passing of your lord father that afflicted you, but… it was worse than I ever dared to imagine. I wish I had gone with you, m’lady, I would have protected you with my life. Maybe… things could have been different now.”
The soft intonations of his speech were surely designed to placate, to smooth and calm an otherwise jarring delivery of news. But the words had been so gentle, so cautious, that you could not help but guess that more intimate motivations could possibly have driven the way in which he spoke this to you. Could there perhaps be personal emotions that spurred under his words? Could there perhaps be sentiments that defied the professional relationship he held with you, that he experienced a magnitude of devastation, disappointment and hurt far beyond that of what he articulated?
This possibility shouldn't be something that surprised you, for despite the betrayal that you would eventually come to experience, Jeon Jungkook had, in fact, loved you. It was only that this memory of him was so fleeting compared to the subsequent years of a downhill spiral that would eventually lead you to that bridge over the riverbank. It had been so easy to forget this memory, so easy to convince yourself that it hadn't existed to begin with—because it was so much easier to cope with something you never had rather than to grovel in the loss of something you had only ever grasped by a thin thread.
What would you convince yourself of this time if he had indeed harboured affections for you?
“Namjoon told me something else too.” This was something you said after a moment of silence for the conversation to breathe, the information to sink in. You wanted to confide in him, as he had with you. “The kingdom will see a new crown princess soon, chances are it will be me, but he doesn't want that to happen. I can't imagine how cornered he must feel for him to suggest running away. Literally, y’know? Live in hiding.”
“Well… what did you say?”
“I told him I'd think about it.”
There was genuine curiosity on his face when he glanced at you, brows raised and slightly pinched, his eyes wider than ever. “And have you? Thought about it?”
“I have.” You found yourself grinning softly at him, at the childlike reflection of a boy you knew from once upon a time. In this reflection, you too were a different girl, from a different time. Maybe things could change, now.
“I don't want to run anymore.”

what do you think of anisoka?
I like it! To be honest, in canon itself, I see it very much as a sibling kind of dynamic. Ahsoka is basically the little sister Anakin never had, and I love their dynamic.
As for Anisoka in a romantic context… As I said, their dynamic never hadany romantic undertones: they had pet nicknames (Snips and Skyguy), theybickered and teased each other, but they were always way more like brother andsister and never had the respectful distance you’d usually see in master andpadawan relationships, unless they were in front of members of the Jedi Counciland had to behave as such.
They were also very similar incharacter: what I think happened for TCW is that some characteristics Anakinshowed in the movies were taken away from him and given to Ahsoka. It resultedin an Anakin who was way more sympathetic and relatable for a lot of people, while said characteristics Ahsoka got from Anakin never made her annoying, butrather endearing.
Throughout their time together, therewere many times where Anakin and Ahsoka showed behavior when they were together(Anakin alone is another matter) that wasn’t quite “proper Jedi behavior”. Buton the other hand, it was never really presented as them acting all “Dark Side”either. You could actually say they were in a grayer area.
But what made all the difference wasthat Ahsoka was a LOT more emotionally stable than Anakin, and despite all thehardships she went through, she kept a solid moral compass and a kind heart, nomatter what.
This leads me to compare how Anakinbehaves around Padmé, and how he behaves around Ahsoka. He loved them both, very, very much:they were the two people he loved the most along with Obi-Wan and his mother. They were his family when he had none left: Padmé was the love of his life,Obi-Wan his brother and mentor and Ahsoka his little sister. But Padmé andAhsoka were both very different in their own way.
Padmé was a brilliant lady: shebecame Queen of Naboo at fourteen years old, gave a big lucky finger to theSenate and went to save her planet on her own from the Trade Federation, wasone of the most illustrious Senators of her time and set the bases for theRebellion along with Bail Organa and Mon Mothma. She was kind and idealistic, and those were her biggest assets as well as the catalysts to her downfall.
When she first met Anakin, he wasstill a sweet, innocent little boy: what didn’t help is that even afterwards, she kept on seeing him that way, up to Attackof the Clones, and she realized how truly damaged Anakin was when it wastoo late.
It also didn’t help that she wasn’tForce-sensitive, and a marriage between a Force-sensitive and anon-Force-sensitive having complications or misunderstandings seems to beA-Thing in the Galaxy Far Far Away. Han and Leia are another example, and thishas repercussions on their son, how he is now (though it’s not the only cause,of course), and perhaps even the fate of the galaxy, and that’s not unlikeAnakin and Padmé: but that’s a discussion for another day.
Anakin did genuinely love Padmé, morethan anything. But he was always taught to repress his emotions, and wasencouraged to “let go of everything he feared to lose”. Considering thatmourning has different stages, going straight to acceptance is very unhealthy. As a result, Anakin was very much an emotional trainwreck, and that’s what ledhim to become so possessive of Padmé.
Anakin and Padmé are very much theRomeo and Juliet of Star Wars: inAOTC, they were two teenagers forced to grow up way too quickly and who clungto each to each other by believing the other might be an anchor to what appearsto be a “normal life”. But as Padmé said in the Clovis arc in TCW, it was amarriage built on lies and deceit.
Anakin’s downfall came from beingunable to accept fate and becoming obsessed with protecting his loved ones atall costs, even if it meant destroying other people’s lives. All of this isn’tPadmé’s fault, of course, since she’s very much a victim in all this mess, butshe was an unwilling catalyst. This, unfortunately, leads me to declare thatwhile Anakin and Padmé did love each other, Padmé was the one who brought outthe worst in Anakin.
It didn’t help either that wheneverAnakin was upset, Padmé would always receive the other end. Of course, hewasn’t verbally or physically abusive with her: but for Anakin, she was theonly person he could vent to about his frustrations and his pains. He knew hecouldn’t do that with Obi-Wan, since he didn’t trust him enough for that, andbecause he would probably shoot something not very helpful like “Remember theJedi code” or something. Padmé, on the other hand, was either too nice, toopolite, or a mix of both to tell Anakin to get a grip on himself. Or maybe shealso thought that Anakin did need to vent, which isn’t a bad thing in itself:but as I said, Padmé still saw Anakin as the sweet little boy from Tatooine, soit often ended up with her not seeing the gravity of Anakin’s situation.
What about Ahsoka?
What makes the difference is thatAhsoka was a lot more emotionally stable than Anakin and even Padmé. She didn’texactly follow the “no attachments” rule to a T, but in hard or even unhealthysituations, she knew when to let go and even when to leave. That’s what led herto leave the Jedi Order behind when she couldn’t trust them anymore, instead ofclinging to them like Anakin did. He didn’t trust the Jedi Council, but hestayed with them nonetheless because it provided him a sense of stability.Ahsoka, on the other hand, was willing to accept to go plunge into the unknown, for her own sake. That was how she coped: she walked away.
Because of that level-headedness,Ahsoka was a lot more efficient at standing up to Anakin. Not that Padméwasn’t: but her not being able to take off her “little-Ani-goggles”,her emotional needs, and her lack of Force-sensitivity made her blind toAnakin’s pull towards the Dark Side. And that’s the tragedy of Padmé Amidala.
No offense, Padmé, I still love you.
But let’s just say overall thatdespite being Luke and Leia’s parents, and despite their love for each other,Anakin and Padmé were actually pretty badly suited for each other, especiallygiven the circumstances.
Ahsoka, on the other hand, was neverafraid of calling Anakin out on his BS. And it worked.
She understood Anakin, more thananyone else could, and Anakin knew that. Heck, she even knew he was miserable in the Jedi Order. Like it or not, she was the onlyperson he knew he could fully trust. That was something he could do with anyoneelse, not even Padmé or Obi-Wan. They were more equals than Master and Padawan, and because Anakin truly felt comfortable around Ahsoka, she was the one whobrought out the best in him.
Seriously, though, watch Anakin inseason 6, after Ahsoka has left. Behavior-wise, he has definitely regressed.
Also, as I said, while Anakin alwaysvented on Padmé, since she was the only person who didn’t tell him to shut upabout his frustrations, and since Obi-Wan would probably give him somenot-so-helpful advice, he didn’t really do it with Ahsoka. The reason why, though, is different: he knew he had to be a big brother figure to her, so ofcourse, he had to hold back. But the thing is, she provided him a gooddistraction from his ProblemsTM. That was actually very beneficialfor Anakin. He always protected Ahsoka at all costs, but at the same time, heknew he could trust her and that she would never let him down. And she didn’t,even when she discovered he had become Darth Vader.
So long story short: what Anakinneeded at all times was someone like Ahsoka.
Could have the galaxy’s fate beenentirely different if Ahsoka had been a few years older and Anakin had fallenin love with her instead? Probably, yes. But still, honestly, I wouldn’t besurprised if Palpatine was the true mastermind behind Barriss’ terrorist attackon the Jedi Temple to frame Ahsoka and get rid of her in one way or another. WithAhsoka around, even Revenge of the Sithitself might have been different.
tl;dr So, basically, if Ahsoka was a few years older, could I see Anisoka happening? Definitely.

Tips on how to make an Avengers movie in 11 steps
Tumblr media
Avengers: Endgame, the fourth instalment in Marvel's superhero crossover franchise, made an unprecedented $1.2bn on the field workplace final weekend. It is the most important three-day haul in film historical past; and a testomony to the power of Marvel's serialised method to story-telling. Administrators Joe and Anthony Russo mentioned they had been "definitely surprised" by the movie's "runaway success" - but additionally introduced they had been taking a break from the superhero style, after making two Captain America and two Avengers movies within the area of seven years. "One of the most important things we learned is that when you're shooting two of the largest movies ever made, and you're shooting them back to back... is don't shoot 'em back to back," Anthony informed BBC Information, confirming the duo's departure. Joss Whedon skilled related feelings after writing and directing the sequence' first two instalments. "Why on Earth would I make another Avengers movie? They're really hard," he mused on the DVD commentary for Age of Ultron. "It was ill advised. I see that now." However Marvel's Cinematic Universe will proceed - with new instalments of Spider-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy already confirmed; and a brand new configuration of The Avengers nearly a certainty. When you someway find yourself within the administrators' chair, how must you put together? Listed below are 11 key classes from the individuals who made the originals. This text doesn't include spoilers for Avengers: Endgame, however will focus on plot particulars from the previous movies.
1) Begin out on a TV present
All three administrators of The Avengers made their names in TV. Joss Whedon created Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Firefly; whereas the Russo brothers labored on cult comedies Neighborhood and Arrested Improvement. These experiences had been invaluable when it got here to wrangling a forged of greater than 20 characters, "because they are all ensemble shows," says Joe Russo. "Those were shows that had to be executed in 21 minutes, they had to be funny, and they had to have a plot. And sometimes, like in an episode of Community, you'd have 30 speaking parts - so that's an exercise that certainly trained you in trying to contain as many characters as we do in two hours." "We're drawn to multiple points of view and group dynamics, because we grew up in a very large Italian-American family," provides Anthony, "so we've always loved working with ensembles."
2) Know the characters inside-out
The enjoyment of the Avengers is seeing how these disparate characters, and the actors who play them, work together. "There is a natural competition when the leads from two different franchises get together and it plays right into the competition of two heroes getting together - so it is delightful," noticed Infinity Battle script-writer Chris Markus final yr. "A very compelling element of crossovers is who has primacy. They're all leaders, they're all used to leading their own worlds, and once you put them into the same room, who gets to call the shots? That is a notion we revisit several times." Nonetheless, it is a problem to offer 23 separate characters a definite voice within the confines of a three-hour movie. Fortunately, there's an outdated screenwriting tip that turns out to be useful: In case your characters are well-written, it is best to know the way every of then would react in the event that they by chance fall right into a swimming pool. "Thor from Infinity War would mess that pool up," says Anthony. "Whereas Rocket - he's not exceedingly self-deprecating, so I think I could see him gag and spit. He'd be a little irritated."
3) Take a number of rest room breaks
Scott Derrickson just lately tweeted how he "ran into Joe Russo outside the men's room," whereas he was enhancing the Physician Unusual movie in 2015. "He pitched me the basic story for both Infinity War and Endgame I told him that if he could make the first movie work, the second movie would be incredible." Which begs the query: How lengthy did Joe maintain his colleague ready for the john? "I think it was like a 10-minute pitch," he laughs. "However the funniest factor is that individuals are like, 'Do you guys get collectively at Marvel on a regular basis and have conferences in regards to the storylines?' "And the reply is, 'No, all of it occurs on the way in which to the lavatory'. That is the place everybody runs into each other and begins exchanging data." In different phrases, do not maintain it in.
4) Maintain the story easy
For the entire acclaim heaped on Infinity Battle, the plot could be boiled down to 3 phrases: "Thanos desires stones". "We've so many characters within the film that we knew if the plot was difficult, it will take too to elucidate and that might take away from the characters and the motion," mentioned screenwriter Chris Markus on the DVD commentary. Even the variety of Infinity Stones brought about a headache, mentioned co-writer Steve McFeely. "Had we invented the concept of Infinity Stones in a vacuum, I am certain we'd not have determined there have been six of them. Six MacGuffins is loads for one film." To maintain issues shifting, the Russos dictated that each scene "needed to do a couple of factor". So the opening sequence - by which Thanos crushes the Hulk, kills Thor's brother Loki and steals one of many Infinity Stones - conveys three plot factors in two minutes. "It establishes Hulk's journey - he is been defeated and would not notably wish to assist Banner over the course of the film," defined Anthony Russo. "It establishes a vengeance story for Thor by taking out his brother, and it establishes the plot for stone assortment."
5) The percentages ought to appear insurmountable
"I needed to make a film the place being a superhero wasn't a free go," mentioned Joss Whedon, about scripting the primary Avengers movie in 2012. "The place issues had been robust sufficient that you'd be as sturdy as you can probably be and nonetheless not be sufficient to take care of what was occurring. "The stakes," he added, "are at all times the identical. "The stakes are: You can die."
6) Acknowledge the ridiculous
When your heroes are up in opposition to a sentient robotic who's ripped a whole metropolis off the face of the planet, it pays to acknowledge that the whole lot's a bit far-fetched. And so, on the climax of Age of Ultron, Hawkeye takes inventory of the state of affairs and says: "We're combating a military of robots and I've a bow and arrow. None of this is sensible." "I discuss with that as 'inoculation,'" Whedon explained. "He says the factor we're all considering, and it performs."
7) Discuss to the animators
The Avengers movies are among the most effects-heavy films in historical past, with 4 main characters - Thanos, Hulk, Rocket and Groot - created by laptop animation. Making them plausible is a vital activity, so each Whedon and the Russos began working with artists earlier than the scripts had been written. "Thanos was troublesome," says Joe Russo. "We knew we had been sunk if Thanos wasn't photo-real, so we spent two years doing analysis and growth on Thanos and ensuring that he would work accurately." For his debut because the Hulk, actor Mark Ruffalo even wrote a letter to the consequences group, stressing that his motion-captured performances had been solely the primary stage of making the character. "We're all enjoying this half," he wrote. "I've taken it so far as I can and also you guys have to make use of what you'll be able to after which overlook about me and change into the Hulk." "It was extremely inspiring to the animators," recalled Whedon, who set aside a day to explain how the movie portrayed two different aspects of the green-skinned monster: "The one Bruce Banner turns into unwittingly and the one he decides to be". "What I discovered later was that almost all of them - the truth is all of them - had not been in a position to see the script, in order that they had been simply animating issues in a vacuum," he said. "So it was extremely productive."
8) At all times put the raccoon on a chair*
Have you ever ever seen that Rocket - the CGI raccoon performed by Bradley Cooper - is nearly at all times standing on a chair? "That is a terrific level," says Anthony. "Whenever you're coping with characters of radically totally different sizes, it presents a number of framing challenges. "You start to learn tricks in blocking to keep everyone in the same relative plane, so you can actually shoot them." (* or on a desk, or positioned within the foreground, or simply movie the whole lot in a large shot.)
9) Ban t-shirts
Finish of Youtube submit by RED Lion Film Shorts Once we first meet Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow in Avengers Assemble, she's tied to a chair, barefoot and in a vest high, apparently being interrogated by shadowy Russian forces. In fact, she breaks free in spectacular trend... however her outfit made it one of many hardest stunt scenes to choreograph. "Whenever you say 'she has no sleeves' to your stunt co-ordinator he cries man tears," Joss Whedon famous afterwards. "It's very difficult to do a lot of these things if you can't pad up the knees and elbows."
10) Embrace the darkness
Making these movies is "incredibly physically demanding," says Joe Russo, and there'll inevitably be darkish days. "When you start out, it's all perfect in your head," Whedon informed BBC Information in 2015, "and while you work with the actors, it will get higher. "Then sooner or later you've got been enhancing for thus lengthy you begin considering. 'Who am I? What's occurring?' and also you overlook why you ever confirmed up, and what you are making an attempt to say. And also you despair. It is a very bleak expertise.
11) Emotion > motion
Including character beats to motion sequences has been Joss Whedon's calling card since Buffy - and he pulls it off completely in Age Of Ultron's climactic battle, the place Hawkeye stops whaling on the unhealthy guys to debate dwelling enhancements. "You know what I need to do? The dining room," he tells Black Widow. "If I knock out that east wall, it'll make a nice work space... What do you think?" "That sequence is, for me, the reason I show up," Whedon mentioned within the commentary. "Where two people in the apocalypse are talking about re-doing the dining room, that says more about their relationship than anything else I could have done." The Infinity Battle group made an analogous choice. Their movie would not finish with a battle however the emotional fallout of Thanos's "snap" - scenes that left some viewers in tears. So what is going to they really feel after they stroll out of Endgame? "Catharsis," says Joe Russo. "We realise how impactful the Infinity War ending was," provides his brother. "We saw how difficult it was for many people and that's something that we really respect. So we were very committed to paying off that kind of a story." Dom - Ricky ahhh i remember throwing away my game in France to save you. Noah fence but thank god you weren't here when I got in the house. I love you but I would never throw away my game again. I was surprised to see you in this cast tho just bc I thought it was second chances but ily nonetheless.
Lauren - thank you for all the great advice!! even though you didn't do to well, your advice helped me!!
Timmy - You weren’t in this game long but you’ll probably be back for Norway.
Tumblr media
Eric
Billy - we didn't talk, I'm sorry about that :/
Colin - Rip, you were so outgoing and active in the game and unfortunately I think that kinda made you a target. I think you’re still great tho!!
Tumblr media
Dom - We haven't spoken much but you just voted me out of the Circle! How dare you! jk but anyways We haven't talked much but when we talked about BBCan, you were super sweet and fun to talk to! King of 3%!!!
Lauren - super funny and nice! unfortunately we just didn't click to well
Timmy - We never really talked, I hope all is good.
Tumblr media
Jevvon
Billy - We didn't talk either, and I'd say you didn't try but I didn't do many challenges either. So I have no room to talk. Haha
Colin - We didn’t talk much and you didn’t really seem super invested in this game but from what little conversation we had I thought you were great!
Tumblr media
Dom - UK King. Bummer that we didn't get to play together because we didn't get a shot to in Mean Girls. You're super sweet and thanks for playing Festive 2! aka the game that will never fucking end. <3
Lauren - a flop
Tumblr media
Timmy -
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Austin
Billy - I think we were just separated until you got eliminated, wish we had gotten to talk more.
Colin - Yikesss we left on rocky terms. Honestly at first you were super easy to talk to, but you were a victim of circumstance in my first bigger move of the game. Then you started calling me out and trying to fight me so honestly I wasn’t that upset to see you go. I hope there’s no hard personal feelings tho!
Tumblr media
Dom -  I have no idea who you are but you seemed interesting. I heard that double was messy. Rip.
Lauren - super sweet!!! you were one of my favorite people in this game! hit me up for a game of survivor!
Timmy - You were always really nice, I hope everything is going well with your family.
Tumblr media
Madison
Billy - UGH WE WERE REUNITED BUT SEPARATED SO QUICKLY :(
Colin - Omg noooo ilysm. I haven’t known you super long and I’m not even that close with you but you are one of my favorite people in this entire community. I was so so sad when you were nominated and I tried so hard to flip the nominations the other way. I’m so sorry and ily.
Tumblr media
Dom - MADISON I LOVE YOU SO MUCH. When I got told that I was being an intruder for the season, I was kinda bummed out because I wanted to play the entire game with you. The week I came in I was so excited because you were still there and then Ashley and I were there with you. Then you got fucked over in an ugly ass eviction that I still don't wanna talk about. You are such a queen and I'm so honored to be able to be considered your friend. Nothing but love for you <3 Now, to get personal, Somehow you manage to make me laugh every day. Somehow you make me want to actually stay in this community. Somehow you brighten my day every day so thank you for that. I love you so much and i just thought you should know that. No matter what people say, you're a beautiful soul and never change yourself. To quote a very, very, VERY, wise woman, "My big ass fucking chubby fingers."
Lauren - you never talked to me so i don't know what to say...
Timmy - We actually never talked, but I wish you well.
Tumblr media
Lexi
Billy - you were going to win hands down. US week was the best time to take you out, and I'm sorry. Even though all I did was vote.
Colin - We literally never talked and you were a huge threat in this game since you were so popular, so you def had to go when we had the chance. I’m really sorry you had to be taken out that way bc it never feels good, but I hope we can play again and actually talk to each other sometime!
Tumblr media
Dom - Lexi girl you were too big of a threat to keep around. You were set to win this game because of the support you had in the VL. When Christine won HOH and you weren't selected for POV, you kinda gave up, which is understandable just because I know how bad it sucks. Had you campaigned when you got nominated, you may have gotten more votes to stay and you honestly might have stayed. You're a queen tho!
Lauren - you were such a big voting threat during your time in the game. i hope you understand that it was nothing personal when we got you out. you would have won this game if it wasn't for bbus week
Timmy - You were scary in this game, if you didn’t get voted out in US/CAN week you might still be here.
Tumblr media
Ashley
Billy - your short time in the house was enjoyable. I'm glad I met you because you're cool :)
Colin - You are the most iconic person ever. You are so funny and you were robbed. I hope we get to play again sometime!!
Tumblr media
Lauren - super sweet!! i wish i had gotten to know you better!
Timmy -
Tumblr media
Actual footage of you during this game
Tumblr media
Nehemiah
Billy - we didn't talk much either, but our few conversations were pleasant. :)
Colin - Honestly??? I loved the frenemies type dynamic we had. Like we were aligned at the start of the game then at week 4 we both got kinda messy and that’s when the infamous fight of the game happened. Kinda from then on I wanted to keep that whole rivalry going, but I started being even more of a mess and trying to work with you while also backstabbing you at every given opportunity. I feel like I took like a decade off of your life with my gameplay and I am so sorry sdkgjsgjsg. I hope there’s no hard feelings between us on a personal level!!
Tumblr media
Dom - Nehe!! I'm so sorry that you got evicted! You fell victim to my plan that kept me safe in the double and I'm super sorry about that. It was super fun to play and talk with you tho!
Lauren - it is very unfortunate what happened to us during the game. i miss you a lot and i hope we get to play another game together!! i hope you're proud that i made it here!
Timmy - For the short time when we were in the same house I knew when you told me information that you were not lying to me. You were always nice to me but game wise you carried a lot of drama with you so I was happy to be in a different house.
Tumblr media
Jordan
Billy - we tried working together until we both got nominated. I wish we had both stayed but I'm glad I'm still in the game.
Colin - I think you were the person in this game I was most excited to play with. I’ve heard so much about you and we talked a little bit on the house calls and I thought you were really interesting. Then right after the merge I heard you were throwing my name around and obviously I wasn’t gonna let that happen. So, I had to take you out while I had the opportunity. I hope circumstances are different if we ever play a game together again because I really like you as a person!!
Tumblr media
Dom - Whew Jordan I'm sorry that you got evicted! I do feel more than responsible for that eviction just because I led the charge to get you nominated. You're super iconic though and I have nothing but respect for you. Sorry again whew. I'm super happy that you beat your france placement tho bc that was... a season.
Lauren - you are so hilarious!!! i hope we can be friends outside of this game because you give me so many laughs!
Timmy - It was always great to talk to you, you are one of the people who I trusted most in this game.
Tumblr media
Jay
Billy - robbed honestly. I wish we had played more closely.
Colin - You are such a sweet genuine person, we only talked like once or twice throughout the game but I loved how honest and straight forward you were. You were only seen as a threat due to you being a challenge threat. I honestly truly love you as a person tho and I hope we can speak again or play again soon.
Tumblr media
Dom - You're one of the sweetest people ever! I didn't really know you when I came into this game but I'm glad I do now! I only saw you in HOS15 which you got Madison out in but that's okay. You're so kind and super easy to talk to. It was fun to play with you and thanks for a fun time :)
Lauren - who?
Timmy - We never talked, I hope all is good
Tumblr media
Benjamin
Billy - we didn't talk about the game at all, and I wasn't going to try in the challenge until I was told you flopped. Sorry :(
Colin - We weren’t, like, SUPER close in the game mainly due to being on opposite sides the entire game, but you are such a fun, nice person. I remember how much fun it was talking to you on house calls or in pms, because you’re the most interesting person ever. Unfortunately I heard you were also kinda going after me and my allies, and you were also perceived as a popular person in the community, but I’m still really sorry to see you go in such a devastating way.
Tumblr media
Dom - You're literally such an icon. From your lipsyncs to Clash of the Titties, everything is so iconic. You literally would've won this game if you didn't have a typo in the endurance competition. (That sucks so bad I feel so bad that the typo happened) Keep your head up because you literally are such a king and I'm super proud of you!
Lauren - super hilarious! i hope we play another org together!!
Timmy - Your intro video and lip sync were hilarious.
Tumblr media
Nicole
Billy - it was sad to see you go, because it was so close to the end.
Colin - OMG ILYSM. I feel so bad about you leaving. I wanted to go to the end with you so badly, from day 1 I was so excited to work with and play with you. You are such a queen and I am gonna miss your drag race rambles.
Tumblr media
Dom - QUEEN! I LOVE YOU! You were so amazing to work with and unfortunately, that last double eviction came and bit you in the ass. I have nothing but respect and love for you. I was so ready to go to the finale with you, Christine and Colin but I guess we got half way there. Mean Girls? Never happened. Ilysm <3
Lauren -
Tumblr media
Timmy - Your RuPaul impressions are only second to Trixie Mattel. Although we never actually talked one on one you were one of my favorite people in this game.
Tumblr media
Christine
Billy - Id give up my spot for you. You deserved to be in this finale. Hands down.
Colin - Okay, what the heck happened girl. I was so convinced you were gonna win this game and honestly?? I was here for it. I was so ready for you to slay and win this entire game. Like you deserve it, girl. You are such a sweetheart and I was so so excited when I saw I got to play with you, and even more excited when we aligned early on. It was so fun working with you, I think you are so great.
Tumblr media
Dom - Oh Christine. My ride or die. Everything about you is 100% genuine and real. You're nothing but a sweetheart and one of my best friends. I remember messaging you saying that we HAD to apply to this season so we could finally play another game together.  So, we did and we got here. When I found out I was an intruder instead of the original cast, I was low key disappointed because I wanted to play the whole way with you and Madison. When I finally got into the game we joined forces immediately and the duo came to life. Whenever I heard your name, I told you and we saved you. When you heard my name, you told me and we flipped the vote. We were untouchable this entire season. When the final double came around I thought we had it. We were so close. You may not be sitting in the finale together, but damn you won this season in my heart. We nominated... TOGETHER. We didn't get a single nomination point... TOGETHER. We made it to the final 6... TOGETHER. We fucking killed this game and you deserve to be here over me. I love you so much. You should especially keep your head up high because you played a phenomenal game and I couldn't have made it here without you.
Lauren - amazing friend and person! i'm going to miss you so much!! i know we drifted towards the end of the game but i hope we continue to be friends!!
Timmy -  QUEEN! ICON! You are so incredibly nice and I was shook when you were evicted.
And with that our tribute has ended, the poll to win will be posted shortly so everyone get ready.

Hooray for Asks~!
@bi3n3nstich said:
Just read the new chapter of AW! It was great! Finally we got to know what the deal is with Himuro. Question though: He's feeling pain because of affection, right? Because he feels affection? Or because someone feels affection for him? Wouldn't he be in constant pain either way? Or does it strictly refer to romantic affection? Hm, I guess you could focus on individual relationships now? Get them together in smaller groups and let them explore dynamics? Maybe also work on another larger conflict? Maybe explain the motivation of some charas, like letting Midorima and Akashi discuss the future of their 'guests' or something. Or maybe work on the romance and let Himuro and Murasakibara talk about their feelings? The story is probably going to unfold at this place, right? So maybe look for a reason that makes Kagami and Himuro stay or maybe a way to incorporate the other charas? Anyway, why didn't Murasakibara just follow Himuro? Was he able to conceal himself? Magic? Or are the GOM stuck?
I am very glad you asked (there were two, so i just condensed them)! I LOVE answering questions!
Now, obviously, I cannot reveal all my secrets (mostly cause I’m not entirely sure what’s even going on myself~) so I will answer what I can! Despite being somewhat out of order, I will be answering these in the order in which they appear in the ask~
First off: yes—the lines on his skin is his body literally tearing him apart because he’s feeling affection. For the most part, he has a handle on it through training and his own magic, but sometimes—in the case of Kagami drowning—he can’t obviously hide it and push it down. Or, alternatively, he can open up to his emotions, essentially accepting they’re there and he has them, and can WILL the lines. As it’s painful, he doesn’t do this often. While he is almost always feeling affection to some degree for his friends, this is a different level of affection, reserved only for life-partners and family. I’ll be getting more into his family (and why his parents aren’t together for that matter) a little later as it’ll be important for the breaking of said curse. :D
Individual relationships—and how they’ll be forming in the coming days—is going to be a major part of this. Perhaps not the relationships Himuro has with others, but as a whole for the story. The smaller groups is a thing that’s already beginning to take place—but perhaps that’s only obvious to me because I know what’s going on. For the most part, Aomine and Momoi stick together, and up to this point, Murasakibara’s been joining them, and they’ve been closest to Kagami. Now that Kise’s thrown in the mix, he’ll be joining up with them and Murasakibara’s ditching out to hang on Himuro, who suffers and watches form the sidelines if he can manage it. Right now he’s the center of attention, but that’ll change soon enough.  Midorima and Takao are sticking together, but if Himuro’s around, Takao has no problems joining up with him—which leaves Midorima to awkwardly join or chill with Akashi. When I introduce the last of our awaited characters, those groups will be reshuffled around to reflect the balances between each of the groups. Some will have more, simply based on these original groups, or they’ll be broken up further or simply pairs.
While MuraHimu is the starting point of this story, once their issues are resolved, there’ll be much less conflict around them. As Himuro knows this world, there’s not as big of a deal for him to be in it. He’s been on the fringes of it—due to his family curse—but involved nonetheless through his parents and Alex. What’s gonna be really fun is throwing Kasamatsu, Furihata, and Kuroko into this, since they aren’t associated in any way, shape or form (…well, mostly).
Motivation wise, yes. We’ll be going into that. Someone commented and brought up their anger towards the GoM for their behavior towards Kagami and Tatsuya’s refusal to accept any form of blame in this whole mess, and I mean to explore that a little further too. I’m sure everyone’s probably tired of me bringing up Kagami’s anger towards them, and their nonchalance now that’s its over, but it’s a major issue I want to make apparent: what they did is NOT okay and while in their world, this level of pettiness isn’t unusual—common, actually, for the most part—Kagami does not accept their half-hearted apologies. Their lack of remorse pisses him off too, given they’re mostly apologizing for trying to drown “Himuro’s brother,” as opposed to feeling anything for almost killing Kagami; they’re more concerned with how upset Himuro was. Momoi is better at actually feeling bad, but the rest… in this case, I suppose they still have some Teiko behaviors they never grew out of.
Now that’s it’s been brought to the light, Himuro will be more willing to talk with Murasakibara, if only to explain himself and express his apologies. He does feel bad for breaking Mura’s heart, but his panic and immediate response to flee was warranted: his skin was tearing open, he felt like he was burning from the inside, and he was bleeding, yes of-course he would panic. He didn’t stay to explain, more concerned with getting back to his family so they could explain what the hell was going on. His father was not pleased to learn everything he tried to prepare his son for was forgotten because of teenage hormones, but that’s something you’ll see in a bit.
Everything will be going from here, yes, and it’s gonna be fun~
Ahahaha, yeah, Kagami ain’t sticking around any longer than he has to. First change they get, they’re out. While Himuro has dealt with his demons and accepted his feelings, it doesn’t mean he wants to stick around, no matter how much he likes Mura. He doesn’t like feeling pain, and he’d rather just return to his normal life and finish his degree. Of-course, now that the GoM know the feeling’s mutual, they’ll be trying their hardest, and once the rest enter, things are gonna get interesting.
Mura would have LOVED to follow Himuro, but, well, 1. He was still in high school, a second-year to be exact. 2. Akashi would have never let him leave their town to follow after some guy who broke his heart 3. He didn’t even know where Himuro lived, so he couldn’t have followed, even if he wanted. So he pined. Aggressively. For like 3 months. Given Mura’s heritage, his true form would have been a little harder to hide, but he’s also lazy, so he doesn’t like practicing using it. His current height at age 20 is his actual height: 7’ 2”. Tall, and enough to cause fair enough awe on its own. So he wouldn’t exactly be subtle, if he didn’t want to alert Himuro he was around and have him run again.
They can all use magic to an extent, some more than others given their family lines. Momoi is the best at using it externally, but Takao, surprisingly, is the best to use his to hide himself. Mura honestly doesn’t try hard, and the rest are adept at concealing themselves. They prefer their more human side, than their mythical.
It’s not so much that they’re stuck, but rather they’ll okay where they are and to leave would mean being around a lot more people who don’t know their culture. Their town is locked, you could say: outsiders can’t get in. There’s an aura surrounding it, hiding it and making humans uncomfortable. If some do stumble upon it, they leave soon enough because of that feeling—think of the Faerie realms and how humans immediately know something is up. When Kagami and Himuro showed up, they thought Himuro brought him because Kagami is too human to have felt the shift.  They can leave—and have in the past—but it’s more that they know what’s up there and they’d rather not have to deal with other things. It’s not to say others don’t live there, Alex and Himuro’s family is proof that they don’t, its just a large congregation of others like them. Most can be more comfortable there, able to at-least drop their disguises, but some also feel paranoid—surrounded by others like them, they know there are others around who could hurt them. Himuro’s family vacationed the one time and they won’t be going back any time soon. Akashi’s father, however, rarely visits because he’s busy running his empire—he’d like to be back among those like him, but he takes pleasure in controlling his conglomerate and crushing his competition too much to take long vacations.
And, that’s everything (I think~)
Thanks for asking~!!
