Getting into Rusty Quill Gaming after having fully listened to the Magnus Archives is fun because nobody realizes what’s about to hit them wrt Magnus.
Like, first of all, Alex doesn’t realize that he’s living in a countdown to asbestos goblins, which is the real TMA lore. And then Lydia and Ben don’t realize they’re about to get typecast into “somewhat aloof boss with a supernatural patron he needs to appease in morally dubious ways in exchange for powers who gets sent to jail at one point” and “girl with trust issues who likes breaking into places and stabbing people and uses body mutilation to escape a toxic job.”
I was fast-forwarding through the mid-episode ads and heard Jonny’s little teaser for TMA and rewound just to listen to the full thing while grinning. I just got to the episode that was released right after TMA dropped and they’re saying that they hope people check it out :) that it might be something people will enjoy :) :) :)

Listen guys this is all good fun but booping can be dangerous. I heard of a guy that booped another guy's nose and the guy headbutted him in the face and gave him a bloody nose. Then he died. Then he came back to life, then he died again, came back to life again, and then they got married. I'm just saying booping can result in lifelong devotion, please boop responsibly.

I finished the RQG epilogues yesterday and there was so much more crying even than the last episode T-T Bryn was so emotional during the intro, I already was tearing up.
Here's your warning for spoilers!
Alex toned down his energy, using a much softer voice and speaking almost cautiously. You can tell how much these episodes meant to him (and the rest of the cast of course).
And oh my GODS Helen's voice acting for Azu as she ages through the different time jumps is beautiful. She speaks slower, with more thought and effort. Helen is so wonderfully talented it brought me to tears. Alex did something similar with Wilde, but to a lesser extent as he obviously doesn't age as fast as Azu.
Don't even get me started on Wilde and Zolf and their domestic life together. They're so good for each other. Zolf has mellowed out so much by the last epilogue, actually getting along with Hamid and working with him. There's so much growth and healing and I'm so proud of him.
Speaking of growth, Hamid character arch has meant SO much to me as someone who has been naive in similar ways to Hamid and has grown in the same way he has.
Speaking of things that mean a lot to me, I can't tell you how happy I am with Ben and Alex's decision with Wilde and Zolf's relationship. As someone who has a platonic life partner, I think they handled it incredibly well and I was so happy to see that kind of representation!

azu’s holy whisper in rcq 207 literally making the difference between life and death for both hamid and wilde wrecks my shit every time. just like, open weeping over two-point differentials in dice rolls.
buffs and debuffs save lives, y’all. love and cherish your support characters, for truly without them we are lost.

10 or 13 for zolf and wilde, gimme the angst Zo <3
#13: “You could’ve- could’ve stayed. You could’ve helped me fix things.”
(set before the first epilogue)
Oscar can’t deny that he put this house together with the thought of Zolf joining him. That he took a place that was merely somewhere for him to return to at the end of the day and turned it into a home.
Now that Zolf’s been here for a few days, though, it’s more than apparent that he’s not ready to make it what Oscar longs for. They’re closer… but gods, they’re not there yet.
“I, uh…” Zolf starts, putting down a meal in front of Oscar that’s better than anything he’s eaten in the months they were apart. “I picked this recipe up in a little village outside of Salisbury. S’nice.”
“It smells delicious, Zolf.”
He watches his beloved smile under the praise, can’t help but wonder how often Zolf hears kind words when he’s out on his journeys. From the look of him, probably not very often.
They eat in pleasantly companionable silence, but he’s plagued by the feeling that they’re on the cusp of something the entire time, like they’re not getting out of this kitchen without at least a little heartbreak.
“I’m thinking about moving on.”
Gods, he hates being right.
Oscar nods, sipping at his tea to hide the worst of his reaction. It’s barely been a week—.
“Soon?”
“Yeah.” Zolf murmurs, glancing down at the table, at his plate, everywhere but Oscar. Gods, Oscar wishes he would just make eye contact like he used to. “Heard about a job south of the river, then might just… keep going.”
Zolf continues not to look at him, even when he sighs and rests his chin on his upturned palm. “I wish you’d stay.”
Boldly going for honesty doesn’t seem to be entirely the right approach, but it feels best in the moment. It makes Zolf shrink away from him, wincing a bit, and that feels good too - even if it shouldn’t.
“You could’ve… you could’ve stayed.” Oscar says, his voice trembling a little. It’s so damn exposing to be in love. “You could’ve helped me fix things.”
Zolf frowns, extending his hand until his palm covers Oscar’s. It does absolutely nothing to make him feel better. “S’what I’m trying to do, Oscar.”
His heart clenches. “Do you have to do it so far away?”
For a horrible moment, he worries that all he’ll have managed to achieve with his longing is to chase Zolf away even sooner. He closes his eyes and lets his head drop, tears prickling behind his eyelids.
Then there’s a hand against his cheek, urging his head up. Oscar opens his eyes and looks straight into Zolf’s stormy green gaze, tumbling so deep that he fears he might drown.
“I’m not leaving because of you. You’re what I need, Oscar. But I’m not…” He sighs. “I’m not fucking ready.”
Zolf’s thumb deftly catches up the tear that tracks down his cheek.
“I am.”
“I know,” Zolf says. “I know. Wait for me?”
Oscar leans heavily into the support of Zolf’s palm and is the most honest he dares to be.
“Yes, darling. Always.”

Rqg Barnes is so fucking funny. He shows up in Season 1 as a straight laced Commander, seemingly kind and patient but still slave to the system. He sends Zolf to prison. They leave. Nobody thinks about him again until he shows up in Season 4 with very little explanation. He's a sexy radicalized pirate now. A few episodes later the party (and Alex) realizes they forgot to give him a first name. They go "ehhhh fuck it well just call him James Barnes like the Marvel character." He wants to own a houseboat and go fishing on it. He has a thing for the pyromaniacal alchemist. He's Northern. He's autistic coded. He's even bisexual.
