You should have started with the prequels smh (this is false do not listen to me)
There are prequels??? I just got here dude you can't throw these Opinions and Alternate Options at me I'm still processing how many series and books I've just added to my tbr you can't come in here with prequels on top of it all
Either way, regardless of the veracity of your statement I do intend to read the series in chronological order, or as close to that as I can get. However it was published to the world is generally how I like to read things--the mere fact that people have a specific suggested watch order for Star Wars that differs is a major deterrent for me. Aside from the fact I just. Don't care about Star Wars.
but anyway! i guess there are also prequels I gotta keep an eye out for now my goodness so many cat
also there's a lot of cats dying in these books damn. when the book about fighting cats actually has cats fight and get injured and die

is anyone else up thinking about how pei ming is aptly named as the god of love not for his affairs but for how open he is with his friendship and his devotion to people especially in comparison to the cold detachment of the rest of the upper court. how the three tumors are the only real honest friendship that we see in the upper court and how pei ming is the most openly affectionate of those three. how pei ming is consistently looking out for shi qingxuan even as she disdains him. how pei ming is both an ally and a friend to the main group in the last act just because he's sociable like that. nobody else? just me?

It feels like every day I read attempts to debunk the social model of disability that fundamentally misunderstand what the social model of disability is and who the people who developed that model were, including what the nature of their disabilities was, and I want to scream.
But I don't, because yelling at people on the internet is basically pointless. Instead I check to see that I'm not mutuals with whoever reblogged said misunderstanding and vague about it.
#'but [x impairment] would still exist and have [y implications] even if the world were completely accessible!'#okay well yeah but equating impairment and disability is explicitly the opposite of the social model of disability#the union of the *physically impaired* against segregation who developed this model#*were* by and large privileged in ways many other disabled people are not‚ yes#mike oliver who wrote the fucking book on the social model of disability#(social work with disabled people‚ published in 1983)#was a white man with a phd who pioneered an academic field‚ for one#and there *are* criticisms about the limitations to a purely social model of disability to be made#but like... our pal mike oliver was also a wheelchair user who broke his neck in a swimming accident as a teenager#which caused paralysis that affected his upper and lower body#not a clueless 'physically abled' autistic who didn't understand how physical limitations work#he lived the first 17 years of his life as a physically abled person#so I think he was aware of the difference between what his body could do before and after his accident#and like 'disability is socially constructed'#is not saying that differences between people and what they are able to do or do easily do not exist??#my eyesight is so bad that if I could not access corrective lenses I would be functionally blind#and even with glasses my myopia and astigmatism cause a lot of tangible effects on my body#e.g. migraines‚ eyestrain‚ so many floaters that even looking through pristine glasses is like the lenses are scratched to hell#but my eyesight is not considered a disability#because the accommodations that enable me to participate in society fully in this area are so standard as to be invisible#can I magically see without corrective lenses? no#does wearing glasses not being considered a disability mean that I do not get migraines and eyestrain? no#so the arguments the thing I am vaguing are trying to debunk are not what is being argued!#well seems like I screamed about it after all#oh well

bman and jason have a seriously strained relationship as is, and our braindead coma patients at DC have no interest in fixing it because Drama Sells, so what do you think would genuinely help these two get back to something real?
Ooh, great question, Anon! Thank you :)
So, right if the bat (pun intended) we know that Bruce and Jason don’t get along well, specifically because of their dissimilar morals.
In DC comics, Bruce only sees in a black or white, this or that way of thinking. It’s either ‘continue to fight crime and leave the rest to the justice system’ OR ‘focus on controlling crime and killing criminals to protect others’. Jason on the other hand sees both of these as opposing morals, and he also recognizes that there is a middle ground which is ‘get rid of the absolute worst of them’. Because Jason understands Bruce, he knows that nothing will make Bruce take a life or do things differently (I mean, his own death didn’t make a difference to Bruce’s morals), but Jason also believes that Bruce doesn’t have to change who he is, he just needs to accept that Jason’s methods are right for Gotham. Ultimately Bruce killing Joker for Jason would have helped their relationship, because Jason would have known that he was loved and his life was worth more than the clown’s. And in UTRH Jason says “I’m not talking about cobblepot or riddler or Dent… I’m talking about him, just him” Bare with me, I know that Jason says this regarding Bruce killing Joker for a different reason being -Joker’s crime was a lot more personal. However I still feel like regardless if Joker hadn’t killed Jason, Jason would still feel the same way about Joker- meaning he’d still think Joker deserves to die because of the sheer brutality and sadism and absolute power the clown has on Gotham & it’s people. (More than any other Gotham city rogues!)
So back to the point, if Bruce acknowledged (like Jason does!) the middle ground of killing the worst of the worst, then that would bring the two closer together.
Listen, I get that Bruce killing would forever change ‘The Batman’, but Bruce doesn’t have to kill people to accept the ideology because he knows Jason is right, he knows crime is down because of Jason. But NO!, DC has to make him beat the shit out of his son instead of having a fucking conversation.
Which brings me to this point. For some reason DC seems to think that these two have to fight no matter what. If they went to have soup with Alfred they’d still end up punching each other for whatever reason. It’s ridiculous. Is this what they think readers want? I completely agree with you, Anon. Drama sells, unfortunately.
The next point is that Bruce needs to actually have faith in his son because guess what?, Jason needs his father’s support to do good. Actual good. Bruce second guessing Jason and not trusting him with missions is exactly what gets Jason frustrated, causing him to feel inferior, worthless, or unlovable in Bruce’s eyes. From a psychological perspective, if Bruce trusted Jason and told him he trusted him, Jason would feel so much better about himself and their relationship. It’s so much better for a child to prove their parents are right for trusting them (motivating them positively) than having a child strive to prove their parents wrong (motivating them negatively). Bruce needs to stop being so condescending and Jason will finally feel heard. Bruce treats him like a child which is just so wrong and demeaning.
Last point is that Bruce needs to spend more time with Jason as Bruce and not as Batman. Sometimes Jason needs his father and that’s okay. It’s up to Bruce to be there for him. Whether Jason is an adult or not, he should be able to feel like he can call or visit or ask for help from Bruce without Bruce getting angry or telling him he’s off the mission.
At this point DC just needs to get the whole family seeing some therapists.
In conclusion, things that would help mend Bruce and Jason’s relationship:
Finding a common middle ground among their morals
Bruce should not beat his sons regardless if they are ‘criminals’ in his eyes or not
Bruce killing the Joker (this would bring Jason closer to Bruce, but it does cause some changes in Bruce’s character).
COMMUNICATION (this is the first step in therapy probably)
Having them be partners and act like partners. Bruce needs to get off his high horse and stop being so condescending to Jason.
Similar to the above-Bruce needs to trust Jason and make sure Jason knows Bruce trusts him.
Spend more time outside of crime fighting. Idk go watch a baseball game or go fishing. Have some family dinners and talk about the times when things were easy and fun and silly, before everything went to shit. Jason deserves his dad and Bruce deserves his son.
Therapy (The whole family would benefit).

people seem to have some mixed interpretations and feelings about today's entry. but my reading was that it was absolutely heart-breaking and emotionally charged on multiple levels.
to me this felt like a mirror of the suitor-squad proposal day. that day was full of happiness and excited love, hope for the future, with some bittersweetness of Lucy having to say 'no' to some; this one was full of mourning and painful love, with dread of the future, but a bittersweetness of connection, devotion, and 'yes' to Mina from some.
I feel like the polycule can be read as platonic, romantic, or a combination of relationships involving either/both. but regardless, these scenes show the interconnectedness of our characters and their care for each other. the men are kneeling in front of Lucy/Mina and making a vow. we tragically were denied a wedding rite for Lucy because of her (un)death, yet we (also tragically) get a funeral rite for Mina despite her (half) life.

Sometimes I still think about how sweet it was when that anon checked on me last year when I was posting overly dark jokes. Thank you whoever you were, that was kind
#i am so much better now but last year was a bad one for me#there was a time in the fall where i literally couldn't get out of bed just because it felt pointless#anyway my mom also forced me to make a doctors appointment and luckily my doctor is super kind and got me on a good medication#but it also was just from stuff like losing my job struggling in school and going through the hurricane etc#im just so glad that i was pushed through that by concerned folks because im enjoying life much better now and that wasnt that long ago#anyway if you're struggling badly right now pls know its not hopeless#reach out for the help youre given and try to see yourself as worth it to fight for#take it little steps at a time#celebrate the small victories like having a shower or taking a walk or answering a call#the best thing for me other than the doctor was just finding ways to be around other people more#instead of feeling defeated i had to think of ways i could fix the loneliness that was affecting me so much#i had to get proactive like i started volunteering and started a book club etc#also i just made myself be very honest with the friends i already had about my struggles and it helps with feeling closer to them#and less alone in it all#because its not that uncommon to have those kinds of struggles and it helps other people open up about their own or just know how you are#the hardest things to do were the most rewarding things in the end#volunteering gave me a reason to get out of the house meeting new people and trying new things and feeling good about myself and#i had to remind myself that i was able to offer things of value and that other people like having me around actually#like the book club is something my friend group looks forward to so much and made new friends through and i started that!#even though i was nervous about it and didnt know if theyd like it at all#other people need you just as much as you need them and thats the truth bby#p

DEAN: Cas, I just can't...
[youtube]
dean's perspective on godstiel arc. the way cas failed him. the feeling of abandonment. the obligation to control. affection for cas souring on his tongue as the imaginary idol he built in his mind shatters. the trials and tribulations of being the center of the universe.
that is not my lover and that's not even my friend.
#spn#vid#so. director's commentary. this video is mostly about dean's control issues with a couple of other themes.#like it's both about how dean feels responsible for cas (see: 'clear my name' over 'cas you child why didn't you listen to me' and also#death blaming dean for godstiel (????)) but it's also about how cas used to be someone dean felt he could control and that's no longer true#like cas used to be someone dean felt like he could just get to do anything. and now he's not and that's kind of a shocking revelation that#renders cas mysterious and unknowable and scary#like when dean felt he could control cas. when he felt like they were in it together. then it could just be the two of them against the#rest of the world (we made love in the tower of babel and it fell down). but now cas isn't doing what dean says#and worse: he has other loyalties. loyalty to god/heaven which is NOT acceptable in dean's book. it means there's a part of cas dean can't#have and dean can't deal with that. it's also bound up with another theme of this video which is: dean and cas' relationship is on the#rocks in s6 because sam died and cas didn't and cas didn't fix it and also he's still loyal to angels/god (very different things for cas#but the same to dean) and dean blames them for sam's death. and then sam continues to be not really back for most of s6 so dean's still mad#plus cas and dean haven't seen each other for a year so dean has had tons of time to massage his memories of cas to be more pleasing#so dean has all these idealized memories of cas and a cas who obeyed him when he threatened to withdraw affection and a cas who was alone#in the world and only his and now he's faced with the real cas who values other things higher than dean's approval and has other commitmnts#and he hates that cas for not being the cas in his head who is perfect. and also now that they're having this big conflict dean is denying#that cas was ever anything but his enemy and the object of his hatred. because he's so angry and also because he blames himself for#anything his loves ones do that's outside his control because he has huge control issues so the only way to assuage the guilt is by#denying that cas was ever one of his loved ones#oh and also the montage of dean refusing to help cas/helping very grudgingly/demanding things of cas is there as a contrast. to show that#the ideal cas who needed nothing from dean and did everything dean wanted never existed. he's an invention in dean's mind#and also that sequence is the explanation for WHY cas didn't go to dean (which is what dean's maddest about because it takes away control):#he had no reason to think dean would help. and if dean actually thought about it he'd realize that. but dean's self-image is OFF the WALL#and cas in 4x18 is THEE idealized image of cas because he's breaking ranks to be with dean he's choosing dean and doing what dean wants#because dean is able to get through to him EMOTIONALLY ('we're done') which is what dean likes. rationality is nothing to dean#and dean denies 'are you god' not only because he's denying any former affection for cas. he's also denying that he would ever put anyone#(god. heaven. cas.) in an authority position above himself. only he can be the authority. because he's angry and so all the cracks in his#shell close up. he has to maintain his identity as a Real Man invested in Freedom and Power harder than ever. he can't be told what to do#oh and 'under the bridges of fame it's always nighttime.' that's about dean being The Protagonist. & the consequences cas suffers from that

Unpopular opinion: the heavy push toward anti-advertising on Tumblr does nothing to harm the advertisers you hate but is doing a huge amount of damage to small businesses who rely on reblogs to get the word out about their stuff.

I'm going BONKERS and can't focus on SHIT this week so plz enjoy this list of wip ideas that I have that Will Not Let Me Rest and Focus on CS
AU in which Winter and Blaise disappear and Jack becomes the legal guardian of an INCREDIBLY angry 1400 year old Jacqueline and 300 year old Fino and Fiera who seem to be stuck in their terrible two hundreds STILL and are on FIRE and have a penchant for blowing shit up all. the. time.
Smile Shot in which Jack and Jacqueline have to chase a piece of fractured time that is hell bent on killing them for some reason through multiple timelines to defeat it, and get stuck with their younger, pre-day of darkness selves 👀👀👀
A series in which the youngest Diteline kid, Robyn, makes a funky cool friend and they go on all sorts of magical adventures that get them both into heaps of trouble. The friend is 100% human. Robyn can set things on fire. Shenanigans ensue. Diteline are acting Cupid and Jack Frost at this point, for maximum shenanigans
AU in which Jack isn't the BAD guy but is INCREDIBLY chaotic. Why? Because in this AU, in fact, the WHOLE REASON I want it to exist, is because I want to see a version of tsc3 in which Jack sees Santa's loosing sight of what's important and decideds "hey, let me help him by forcing him to use the escape clause, taking his place, so he can learn a Valuable Life Lesson about family in a very Dickens-esque way. This results in a scene where Jack explains this plan to Jacqueline after enacting it (so he's Santa) and Jacqueline just stands there, hands on her hips, absolutely furious like, "YOU THOUGHT W H A T?" (tho it does end with Jacqueline being like do u think it'll work. And Jack being like I know it will. And Jacqueline being like FINE. UGH. WHY are you LIKE THIS but agreeing to help nontheless)
Story based on when I thought the series was going to be called "Clause for Celebration" in which, to find a replacement Santa, Scott has a Santa-Lympics where the Legends pick a champion to claim the title of Santa Claus. Unfortunately, he learns too late that he can't pick Charlie. Jack also can't pick Charlie bc he gets BANNED from picking a champion COMPLETELY by the dude who is making sure it's all "fair" (most likely a mischievous evil fairy). Jack finds a loophole--Legates are technically Legendary and by those rules, can pick a Champion if they'd like to. Charlie is a school teacher and is upset about the Santa-Lympics bc he cannot participate. Danielle also teaches and knows about the Santa thing and is encouraging him to do it anyway. She's made friends with the quirky new librarian, Ms. Winters, who has these AMAZING fantasy stories during story time, and tells Charlie to ask her and pretend it's a story. She'd dig it. Ms. Winters does, in fact, dig it, and tells him he should volunteer anyway and maybe someone will sponsor him in a very hunger games-esque way because surely, there are more Legendary figures than just the ones he knows, right? So he does. Guess. guess who sponsors him. GUESS. Shenanigans ensue. Krampus is the BBEG. Diteline get eaten by Krampus. Jacquie commits atrocities. Charlie defeats Krampus. It's great. This one's too developed for my own good, holy hell.
RotG Crossover where the Legates get sucked into the Guardians universe bc of a dumb Pitch plot. Toothiana thinks Myles is the cutest thing! Jack is sus of Jacqueline. North thinks Charlie is v tiny and funny for a Santa. Charlie really wants a Yeti. Xander is super excited to interact with someone who knows SSL (sand sign language). Our Jack pops into the universe to bring back Jacqueline (and the others too, I GUESS) without telling the rest of the Council. When he finally finds his sister a scene ensues where Pitch is like, "YOU'RE Jack Frost. and YOU'RE Jack Frost (points to Jacqueline). ARE THERE ANY OTHER JACK FROSTS I SHOULD KNOW ABOUT?" and our Jack goes "Hi." Pitch whips around and gets socked in the face by him. Shenanigans and angst ensue, the latter especially on the rotg side of things >:)

I was thinking about how in hotd the writers changed entire characters arcs and dynamic just to add emotional depth to the conflict (and not all this changes were successful in my opinion) when the easiest way to do that was to add depth to the relationship between Rhaenyra and her siblings, especially Aegon. I mean obviously aging down Alicent messed up a lot of storylines and among other issues it further expand on the Rhaenyra/Aegon age gap so whatever could have been explored in that dynamic simply gets lost cause it just doesn't fit the narrative with this changes. In the book there are hints of a (strained) relationship between the half-siblings, rhaenyra even calls helaena "my sweet sister" and aegon sarcastically "my dear brother"...i don't know I just think there is a lot of wasted potential here especially if we think about how the story is ending.
