First gourd (and radish) I carved in my life 31 October 2019

#the drawing I class i was in in undergrad had a pumpkin carving day that year #i decided to be rebellious and buy a pumpkin to carve for the first time but when i went to the store there were no more pumpkins :') #so i got a gourd and a little skeleton for inside caude i wanted a scene #it was the first time i had carved anything for Halloween ever and i remember feeling so sinful at the time #there was this one person Maddie who was also giving tarot card readings and they were one of my major events(?) to realize i was gay #i didnt get a reading from them cause i was scared that was going too far and I would be too far gone messing with the 'occult' #and they made me nervous but i wanted more and couldnt figure out why (i chalked it up to them being 'cool' and wanting to be their friend) #anyways maddie gave me the radish cause they also didnt bring a pumpkin and had two radishes (cause they were buy 1 get 1) from Winn Dixie #i still think about maddie now and we talk sporadically i told them if they're ever in Chicago to come and visit me but they live in Canada #their art inspires me and i believe they could design a fantasy game or novel because of their work (i own a weird little dog of theirs) #i never mentioned anything to them at the time about being infatuated with them in class and i doubt i would now bc our life goals dont mesh #but i consider them to play a important role in my life and i appreciated the radish and wish i got the readings done #its wild how much growth can happen in just a few years -- i bought a mini pumpkin in September because i wanted to celebrate early #back then when i got home the gourd and radish was forcibly thrown away (and i didn't dare tell of my encounters in class with the lesbian!) #(i hold that memory in my heart & think of it fondly cause i hadnt realized yet i have much compassion for younger me who was never sinful) #now in grad school there is a new Maddie 🍈 who told me she didnt know why she keeps looking at my face in class and i think i know why #but she has yet to get there <3

From using terms like stalker to express their dislike of her, slutshaming her, want the other Sonic characters AKA her own friends and allies to murder her for no reason but the fanfic author having a hateboner for Amy (therefore throwing away their canon morality save for Eggman and the other villains), being demonized not just for shipping but also to paint her in a bad light to even wanting SEGA to retire her whole entire character completely!

A tarot deck of dubious make, it's immediately obvious to anyone who beholds the cobbled together set of cards with different backs, shapes, sizes, aspect ratios, compositions, and conditions, that they were never meant to be taken together and used as a singular divinatory tool; and yet, anyone who beholds it can feel the power radiating from it. If one took the time to sort through the deck, they'd find nothing to sort because in it there is nothing except for The Tower (XVI), each card painted in a different style and paired with a different back, but each card The Tower all the same.

Each Tower in this deck was once part of another tarot deck, freely given up to become a part of The Towerot, sacrificing a bit of divinatory power from it's original deck to The Towerot. With each card, the Towerot grew to more perfectly embody the aspect of The Tower, the pile becoming more and more untenibly Tower-like, and with that growth came an exponential increase in power, eventually surpassing what was sacrificed but at the cost of being more specialized, more difficult to harness, and more difficult to interpret.

Each card had, in its original context, a number of symbols tied into it surroundings arcane. The sacrifice severed those symbols from theat context and set their meaning adrift. The key to interpreting readings from The Towerot is grasping a new meaning for each of these decontextualized set of symbols which makes sense within their new context; reading the subtle changes between each card's depiction of The Tower.

Be warned however and do not misunderstand. Each card in the The Towerot is The Tower into and of itself, and they should all be interpreted as such; do not play with the deck lightly: The Towerot is a powerful but specialized divinatory tool which can only be properly used after determining that SHITS FUCKED!; It's purpose is understanding the way shit became fucked, is currently fucked, and can be unfucked. If shit ain't fucked, powerful though it may be, it can't help you.

#A proper towerot would stand at least a foot tall #but getting that many towers in one place would be difficult #tarot readers don't give their towers away willy-nilly

Meg and Apollo tarot card designs for @ferodactyl <3 I'm not an expert when it comes to tarot cards (this was actually the first time I looked into the full deck) but hopefully I got it right!

The explanation of the cards' symbolism is under the cut because it's a bit lengthy oof

Meg's card is the Knight of Swords, one of the minor Arcana, I think? Upright, the Knight of Swords refers to a person who is action-oriented, determined and unstoppable in what they set their mind to; however, when it's reversed the card also indicates a person who might be blind to the consequences of their actions and charges into things without having fully considered their options. Meg's choices throughout TOA point to her being exactly this sort of person: while her determination and lack of hesitation were exactly what was needed to balance out Apollo's occasional self-doubt, her impulsiveness was also what got them both into trouble multiple times. The fact that, eventually, she learned how to rely on others and slow down when needed goes hand in hand with the warning this card poses.

Apollo's card is instead one of the Major Arcana, and it's Death. The Death card is a symbol of change: it indicates a time of transition and new beginnings that are sometimes unexpected and difficult, but still necessary. Reversed, the card indicates that the person is resisting that change, and unwilling to let go of the past, which makes the journey all the more painful as the transformation that they're going through is inevitable and cannot be reversed. One of the major points in Apollo's character arc, and the biggest change he goes through, is the transition from the god he used to be to the one he would be in the future. It's a slow change, and one he didn't fully lean into at first—after all, if he chose to give up all that he had been up until then, what would he have left? However, ironically enough, death is exactly what set things in motion, and let him finally shed away his past beliefs to embrace his new sense of self.
