TRUST — Talos
Tumblr media
Summary: Barely learning about the Skrulls living among humans, you know deep down Earth is a dangerous place for them. Talos doesn't think the same.

"Have you lost your damn mind?!"
Talos sighed. "That's what Fury said..."
"He's right!"
"Listen, I had to do something. I had the chance to make the call and I did it."
You tried to laugh it off, sipping on your glass of water and putting it back into the sink.
"This is ridiculous."
"What? That we've been looking for a place to call home for three decades?" Talos snapped back.
"No! Of course not- forget it," this was your turn to sigh heavily. "I'm sorry, it's been a wild day... I didn't expect you here. Any of this."
The skrull, in his human form, came closer to you, standing by the kitchen island. He decided to see you after his small discussion with Fury. It wasn't on his plans to tell him his secret that way, but Talos understood his displeasement. So he decided to look for you, even if it was dangerous to come by your place, he still felt the need to see you again. An old friend, if that's what you could call it.
"You're the next person I trust," his voice came hardly as a whisper. You locked eyes with his own, filled with a little hope. Hope that you'd wish you had.
"I'm not Carol Danvers. And I am not Fury, I was barely behind Maria... and she's gone."
Hesitating, Talos reached for your hand, and your skin was soft and warm, as he always remembered. Years passed since you decided to be something. Something that had not worked. You left for SHIELD missions around the world and Talos was busy, either assisting Fury or looking for his own people, and now you knew. You knew why he disappeared sometimes for weeks, months even. Not to mention his daughter, who had a difficult time after her mom passed away. It wasn't going well. Somehow, Talos also had to let go of his now gone wife. Get over the grief, and until today, that was still difficult.
"There has to be something... A peaceful manner to be free, get a new place, or be here- I know it."
A bittersweet smile was on your lips.
"You know, I always admired your courage. And the faith you put on us, humans, because a lot of us lost that already."
Talos shook his head, standing even closer to your figure if it was possible. "No, you don't see what I see on them."
"Talos, humans can't stand each other. People can't tolerate different religions, skin colors, or cultures... You've seen the wars and catastrophes around the globe. We can't stand the solely existence of each other. Do you think they will see you like I do?"
Maybe, just maybe, you were getting in his head. But he was foolish, centuries foolish and he still thought humans and skrulls could co-exist. You waited for Talos to speak, but his words never came out.
"Do you, really, think this beautiful of us?" you asked again.
"I do," he said. "I do because I know you."
He leaned in to press his forehead against yours, and you'd be lying if you say you didn't miss his touch.
"As much as I love to hear that, I'm afraid not everyone is like me..."
A silence embraced both of you, in the loneliness of your kitchen. Suddenly, Talos started to think what could have been. If destiny would have been able to give both of you the chance you needed... Maybe G'iah would be here, with you – as her mother figure – and him like an almost normal family, and not joining the rebellion, risking her life.
"I only ask you to trust me like I trust you," Talos whispered against your lips.
"You're asking way too much... but I can try."
Softly, you caught his lips in a kiss. A kiss you both desired to happen since a long time ago, and you wished it would never end to stay then and there forever. His embrace was too comfortable to escape.
"Just tell me where are you going and I'll follow," you said after pulling away. He smiled, beautifully, exactly how you remembered him.
"Thank you."

Captain Marvel: Final Part
Pairing: Carol Danvers x Female!Reader
Word Count: ~1.2k
Warnings: canon violence and angst
Author’s Note: For the sake of the rewrite, Howard and Maria Stark dies on December 16, 1997 instead of 1991. Tony is 23 when they die.

x
With the Skrulls now saved from the Kree, at least for right now, you and Carol met Maria and Fury back at Maria's house for a last-dinner kind of thing. Most of the Skrulls decided to go back to Mar-Vell's lab to prepare to move again while Talos, Soren, and their child join you back at Maria's house. She did a really good job flying the plane to avoid whatever Kree was on her ass, and Fury won't let her forget it.
"That's some nifty flying you did out there. SHIELD could always use a good pilot like you."
"I'll consider it, as long as you don't call my flying nifty again."
Fury's eye is all scratched that you assume came from Goose.
"How's your eye?" you question the agent.
"Getting better every second. I'll be fine."
"Is it true that Goose scratched your eye?"
"I will neither deny nor confirm the details of that story."
"She did. I saw it happen," Maria confesses, making you cackle.
"Just so I'm clear, you were Soh-Larr and the SHIELD agent?" Carol asks Talos.
"Yeah, he tied my boss up and stole his identity," Fury interjects, ignoring your teasing remarks about how a cat got the better of him.
"I borrowed his likeness. I'm no thief."
"It's a little like a thief," Soren shrugs.
"Whose side are you on?"
"You're good to go here until you recover, but you and your family will need a new look."
"I could go back to being your boss."
"Please don't."
"Come on. I love sporting his beautiful blue eyes."
"I'll help you find a home and finish what Mar-Vell started," Carol offers.
You open your mouth to agree but nothing comes out of it. First, you think about Bucky and Steve and how you left this planet to get away from the pain it caused you, but then you think about how you promised yourself that this would be your new home away from Xenia and Markus. You fled once, you can't do this to Earth again. It needs protecting, and who will protect it if you leave?
"They can stay here with us, can't they, Mom?" Monica asks from the stairs where she and Talos' daughter are.
"They won't be safe here, baby. Auntie Carol is right. They need their own home."
"I'll be back before you know it," she says.
"Excuse me," you whisper.
You grab your plate of unfinished food and walk into the kitchen to do the dishes. Carol and Fury look at each other before getting up and doing the same. Leaving Carol behind and staying on Earth hurts differently than when you lost Bucky. Bucky died and you didn't have a choice but to move on with your life. You're deciding to leave even though it hurts you to do so.
"Are you okay?" Carol asks.
"Yeah."
"Let me help you with that," Fury offers and takes the wet dishes to dry.
He notices dry tears on your cheeks and gestures to Carol to talk to you.
"We beat the Kree and Ronan. What's wrong?"
"I don't know if I can go with you when you leave," you whisper.
This is a conversation to have privately so she puts it on the back burner for now. She rubs your back in a comforting way and takes out the pager that she took from Fury. She's modified it a bit so that he can always contact her whenever she may be.
"Here, there is something I want you to have. Plus, I need you to keep the Tesseract hidden here on Earth." She hands him the pager. "I upgraded it. The range should be a couple of galaxies, at least. For emergencies only."
"What? Do you think I'm gonna crank call you?"
"For emergencies only. From the looks of it, you'll have Y/N in case something goes wrong."
"Well, if you're ever passing back through this galaxy, be sure to give a brother a shout," he says. "I can finish up here. You two can take off."
"Come on."
Carol takes you outside to have a private conversation with you. She knows what you're going to say but lets you say it anyways.
"As much as I want to go with you, I can't leave Earth. The universe needs you, Carol but Earth needs me. The Tesseract is here, so someone is going to come for it sooner or later. She'll need someone to protect it."
"I agree."
"I'd be too selfish if I kept you from everyone else," you sigh sadly, "but I don't want to leave you. I love you."
"I love you, too. I'm not asking you to choose but I do have to leave. I can't stay on this planet knowing wars are going on out there that I can help fight."
"I know."
She pulls you in for a hug and allows you to cry on her shoulder for however long you need.
"This doesn't change anything between us. I want you to live your life. I don't know when I'll be back, but I don't want you to be lonely. I want you to meet someone, fall in love, and live your life. You'll always have a special place in my heart."
"So will you," you sniffle and pull away from her.
"If we are meant to be, we'll find our way back to each other. I can guarantee that."
"I should go, then. I wish you the best of luck, my love."
"Same here."
You kiss her one last time knowing this will be the last in a while. If you stay any longer, you're going to cry so you pull away from her and take off toad the sky. With no viable threat over your life, you can pick a place and settle down. You haven't had a home for at least fifty years.
New York has too many painful memories and London reminds you of Bucky. When you first came to Earth with Carol, you landed in Northern California. The beaches there are beautiful so maybe living in that state won't be such a bad thing. You can get a place along the beach and enjoy your life by yourself.
Malibu is nice this time of year, and you settle in quicker than you thought you were. You have a bit of money saved from the 40s that you never got to spend, so you use it to buy yourself a house on the beach. The town of Malibu is compact and busy but you don't mind being surrounded by this many people. It gives you an opportunity to learn about humans from what you missed over the years.
It takes a week after moving in to explore the town, so you're walking along the coast when you pass by a tall man sporting white hair and a mustache and a shorter woman with blonde hair.
"Y/N?"
You stop and face the couple with a confused look on your face.
"Yes. Do I know you?"
"It's me. Howard Stark."
"Howard? Wow, you've grown."
"You stayed exactly the same."
Hearing him say this makes you a bit sad knowing you'll probably never grow old. You'll always be the same age as you were when you first injected Markus' serum.
"Well, you know..."
"Wait, I thought you died. I thought you and Steve died when the plane went down. We searched for you two for months after the wreck."
"Steve died. I left Earth for fifty years."
"She's the one you were talking about?" Howard's wife says. "She's the Avatar?"
"That's me," you shrug.
"What are you doing here?"
"I bought a place on the beach. I spent the last sixty years fighting in wars I shouldn't have been fighting in. I figured what harm will it do if I take a few years to myself. What have you been up to?"
"I'm retired now. I have a few billion dollars to my name. I got married and had a son. Would you like to meet him?"
"Of course."
Howard and his wife, Maria, take you back to their house where their young adult son is.
"Tony? Come down here. There's someone I want you to meet." Tony comes down the stairs with a bored expression on his face. "Tony, this is Y/N."
Tony's heard the stories his father used to tell about a righteous man with super strength and a woman who can control the elements. He didn't think those stories were true until he sees you. There are very few pictures of Howard back in the day, but some of them contain you and Steve.
"Is this the same Y/N that you worked with back then? The one with Steve?"
If you're going to be in Tony's life, then he has a right to know exactly who you are.
"Yes, it is." You stick your hand out for him to shake, and you give him a polite smile. "It's very nice to meet you, Tony."

“Do you remember what happened?” you ask him this with a whisper, unable to hold back your curiosity even if he is already starting to fade out again. You have been asking this same question over and over again ever since you stitched him back together, and it has been circling inside your head during the long nights you stayed awake by his side to watch over him and make sure that he wouldn’t get worse the moment you looked away.
You watch him as his expression grows tense, as if he is trying to remember something. “Vaguely—” he finally answers. “It’s a long story,” he adds after a beat of silence, then he turns his head to look at you. “Did you see anything or anyone when you found me? Did I say anything else other than the hospital?”
Scoffing, you shake your head at him. “I only saw a bleeding man in the water and pulled him out,” you answer with a chuckle. “And the only thing you said was ’No hospital’, instead of telling me what happened to you or why you were washed off nearby.”
He gives you a bitter chuckle, though his voice fades a little when the painkiller and his meds slowly kick right back in. “You’re either crazy or dumb that you actually took me in and stitched me back to one piece without knowing anything about me.”
His words make you chuckle. “Maybe I’m both,” you tell him, though he already has his eyes closed shut as he finally gives in to sleep, barely conscious enough to catch it when you add with a soft whisper, “But I suppose we’re both the same. Both of us are just crazy and dumb and terribly reckless. Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait and find out which one I really am—Ghost.”
Tumblr media
Jung Hoseok keeps his eyes on the man sitting before him, wearing a smile on his face that is neither warm nor challenging. Just the same old mask that the hacker had always worn when he is met with a new company. His gaze remains unwavering as a waitress comes to drop two shots of drinks—each one containing a clear liquid that looks way too conspicuous to be pain water—placing one right in front of Hoseok and the other for his guest before sashaying away with her empty tray.
“What’s this?” the man asks, while Hoseok merely widens his smile.
“Shots. One shot for one question. Sounds easy enough, don’t you think? To make it even better, to every shot you take—” he grins as he raise his glass to his companion. “I’ll take one too.”
The man scoffs, and takes the shot glass, raising it for a toast against Hoseok’s drink before he downs the liquor to the very last drop. Not expecting the strong taste and the strong kick of the alcohol, the man winces and coughs for a moment, earning a chuckle from the hacker who seems pleased to see him struggling while he takes his drink smoothly.
“Not used to drinking hard liquor?” he teases his guest when the man puts his glass down with a bang.
Hearing Hoseok’s words, the man openly glares at him then leans forward as he recovers. “First question,” he says with a soft wheeze. “Five years ago, there was a group of underground vigilante who crashed the network in order to send the authorities a message. The group claimed themselves as ‘ghosts’, who had the ability to see everything, to hear everything, and to know every single secret there was in this country. During which, they were also responsible in hiding a whistleblower, someone that the higher ups had been fighting hard to find. You were a part of that group, weren’t you?”
Something flickers in the hacker’s eyes. A flash of recognition and acknowledgement, before a secretive smile replaces their presence when the hacker leans forward to answer, “Yes and no.”
The other man frowns, no doubt expecting more. But Hoseok merely sits back and smiles in his silence. “That’s it? No other explanation?”
To his surprise, the hacker has the audacity to simply shrug his shoulders and say, “I never said that I’d be giving you an essay to each question you’re giving me.” Hoseok resists the urge to chuckle when he sees his companion’s reaction, knowing that he seems to have struck him at the right spot. He wasn’t exactly planning to play a game with him, yet the man had come to him looking all curious and defiant and the same time that he couldn’t stop himself.
For a moment, Hoseok expects to see him walking away, refusing to play his game, but then he surprises him by lifting his chin, a sign that he is still willing to play along. Chuckling to himself, Hoseok lifts a finger, beckoning the waitress to return. This time, she comes back with two shot glasses for each of them, each one filled to the brim that a few drops come splashing onto the table as she puts them down for both men. She gives Hoseok a sly grin as she walks past, one that he returns subtly before he turns his attention back to his new friend.
The man mirrors his movement as Hoseok raises his glass, taking his shot down slowly while his friend takes his share just as roughly as the first one. With a groan, he puts the glass down and challenges Hoseok with a glare. “The money embezzlement case that happened three years ago. Your signature imprint was subtly hidden in the codes that was left behind during the transfers. So not only were you capable of hiding a whole person or group, you also magically made the money disappear, didn’t you?”
Hoseok hides the smile on his face by rubbing his chin. It is quite obvious, judging from the slurring words given to him, that the man sitting with him is starting to feel the affect from the drinks. Which means that he doesn’t have that much time left to play.
“I can do many things,” Hoseok answers him, once again coming closer so he can keep his voice down when he continues, “I can do magic. I can look into people’s lives, I can find those who don’t want to be found, and I can even tell you all the secrets that your own family had never told you about.” Hoseok leans closer, releasing a menacing chuckle as he adds, “I can even make you disappear.”

  Placing your hands on each side of your hips, you smirk at the popped-up screen in your office. Another project you just nailed. Ever since the promotion, your productivity has increased tenfold and you feel as motivated as ever, your creativity on a top level. Also, the last few weeks, after you decided you needed some time alone, you did set more focus on yourself and your own projects. Work being one of them.
It’s weird to say the least… you’ve been busier than ever and yet, it seems like you actually have much more time to yourself now. You’ve been reading books you’ve bought but never really got to read them, eating ice-cream at 3am as you watch The Return of the King for the millionth time, your drawers are finally organized and so is your precious DVD collection. You got to explore a great number of parks and spots you’ve never been before, even living in New York for so long. You’ve been going out a lot and catching up with friends and family.
It was a good decision. You remember in your relationship with Eddie there were always obstacles for you to hang out with people outside the small inner circle of you as a couple. Sometimes the obstacles were subtle, and not always brought solely by Eddie, but also by you who let yourself get involved in that dynamic. You had no idea how much you missed people that were yours only, and not yours and Eddie’s.
It’s been great to be single. Really, really single for the first time in your adult life. No boyfriends or fiancées, no booty-calls or deals. Completely single… A title and state of mind you didn’t really get to enjoy in the first months of being broken up, being too heartbroken to even think of everything you could do with your life then.
Deciding to be alone for a while…It was a great and reasonable decision.
You have to admit something to yourself, though.
Sometimes you just wanna throw “great” and “reasonable” out of the window. Because you do miss him… A lot.
Finding out how he’s changed his mind and predisposition towards your relationship has messed quite a bit with your mind… and heart. You weren’t expecting that at all and now you don’t really know what to do with the chaos that’s bringing upon your feelings. And what’s making it even messier is the other guy who also changed his mind and predisposition towards your relationship… you weren’t expecting that either… however, that particular change of heart hasn’t been making your own heart jump each time you think of it…
Squeaky little yells and an animated chattering sound of female voices catch your attention to outside your office. Your previous smirk turns into a smile while you shake your head to yourself. That type of commotion only ensues when a certain someone drops by the Tech Department.
With a wave of your hand, you shut down the screen you’ve been working on, before moving towards the sound. What you come to find a few stops outside your office, at the Department’s common area, is a little circle of your female coworkers around a Super Soldier. He’s always a hit among your coworkers, but today it seems like they’re even in a bigger frenzy, fussing around something that he seems to be holding in his arms. You attempt to catch an eye of it, but the bodies in front of you make it quite hard.
He spots you as you approach them and opens a huge grin at your sight.
You smile back at him just as widely and after you come closer and some of the girls make room, your eyes widen and a small little gasp slips out of you when you finally find out what the fuss is all about. They are all cooing and marveling at a beautiful cat on Bucky’s arms, white as snow on a mountain peak, standing there like royalty, staring back like they’re nothing but proud of being where they are.
“Hey,” Bucky greets, prompting your eyes to focus back on him.
“Hi, there,” you answer back while your gaze carries an amused question mark at him.
He lifts a hard drive with his free hand to your vision field, “We collected this last mission, it’s some alien stuff,” he offers you the drive, keeping his eyes on yours.
As you gaze at each other, you reach for the little device. His fingers brush against yours and that’s precisely when the chattering around both of you becomes nothing but a distant and vague noise that barely reaches your senses… until a loud clear of throat sound stands out.
“Alright, girls, let’s get back to our desks and let these two, ahm… work,” Camilla, your closest friend there, gives you a pointed look and a discrete curve curls the corner of her lips as she leads the group - which looks far from happy about it - away.
When your gaze meets Bucky again, he’s got that shit-eating grin of his that tells you the little interaction between you and your friend didn’t quite skip from his attention.
You bite your lip and are about to say something when he beats you to it, “Sorry, I had to bring her with me.” He looks down at the cat on his arm and gives it a gentle shake, grinning down at her while she looks up at him before her incredibly blue eyes shut in what looks like sheer contentment, “This little girl right here started whining at the door when I was leaving… she just can’t leave my side anymore.” Bucky shrugs and ticks his tongue, before winking at you.
You chuckle, finding the surprising scene before you nothing less than adorable. The fact that you enjoy being in the presence of his charm again doesn’t go unnoticed by you, but you say nothing about it, “It’s ok, of course. I love cats. What’s her name?”
“Y/N, this is Alpine. Alpine this is Y/N,” he introduces you two with pride lacing his voice.
“Oh, hello, Alp-” your attempt of petting the cat comes to an abrupt halt with you withdrawing your hand at the loud hiss the animal aims at you.
Your eyes snap at Bucky to see his jaw dropping and his eyes widening with a mix of shock and fluster, “Fucking Christ,” he gasps, before looking down at the cat who now licks its paws absentmindedly, “What the hell, missy? Apologize. Apologize now,” he scolds, gaining absolutely no reaction in response.
He scoffs, looking back at you with incredulous lifted eyebrows.
You laugh, mainly at his attempt of making Alpine apologize, “Don’t worry…” You wave him off, “How did that happen, though? I don’t remember you having a cat.” You narrow your eyes just when your head tilts.
He bites his lower lip before an almost cringing smile forms on his lips, “Oh well…”
 A FEW WEEKS BEFORE…
 “Weren’t the Skrulls, like, actually good guys?” Bucky frowns, shoving one of his post-missions Oreos in his mouth and crossing his ankles over the spaceship’s dash.
“Every bunch has its bad apple, I guess,” from the pilot’s seat Natasha shrugs, eyeing the apple in question from over her shoulder.
“You’ll regret this,” threatens the prisoner, who’s actually a Skrull slaver named Gragnon and has his hands and feet securely tied up, stuck on a sit at the back of the ship. Still, he tries to get up and advance towards the front, but a shield of red mist surges in front of him, making him fall back on the chair again with a growl.
Wanda, the third member of the party on that mission, smirks from her seat right behind Nat’s.
Nat rolls her eyes, “What a douche… Talos has been leading a search for him for years now, he’d be thankful we’re taking him to them. Feet off the dash, please.”
Bucky quickly obeys, pulling down his legs to the floor as Wanda snickers.
“In fact… we should thank the success of this mission to a certain someone, who came up with a device to break alien codes.” The cheeky smile on Wanda’s face as she started speaking only fades so she can shoot a glare back at the prisoner, who’s now revolved by a red mist dome.
“Damn right.” A dreamy little curl pulls Bucky’s lips as he swings on his seat and passes the bag of Oreos to Wanda.
“Jesus,” Nat scoffs, setting the ship on autopilot, before swirling her chair to see both Bucky and Wanda, “Could you ever imagine this could be possible? That this guy would someday be that smitten over someone?” she questions Wanda.
“Not in a million years. I don’t know Y/N that well, but I bow to her.” Wanda mimics the gesture before shoving a cookie in her mouth.
Bucky doesn’t even drop the dreaminess of his smile. He is smitten… completely… utterly… and fuck if that doesn’t feel damn good. He always thought that kind of feeling would be a pain in the ass, boring and painful. It is not. He feels like singing, dancing, hugging every human being and alien he comes across. Fuck, he would hug the Gragnon dude if it didn’t mean to get a kick in the ass from Natasha. It’s been ages that he doesn’t really get high on anything, but that feeling… he’s definitely hooked on it.  There’s not a doubt inside him anymore and he’s in love with being in love with you.
“So, spill it,” Nat crosses her legs, swinging on her chair “You really went to her place and poured your heart out to her? Right after her ex proposed to her?” She questions, “What did she say?”
“Well, first she thought I was kidding and laughed her ass off…” He shakes his head with the same dreamy little smile on his lips, “Then, when she realized I was not, she started crying and, of course, so did I.” He shrugs, ignoring when Nat and Wanda exchange looks, “She wasn’t expecting that from me at all, and, we can’t really blame her can we?”
“Definitely not.”
“Nope.”
Bucky chuckles at the unison response from her friends before leaning over and snatching the bag of cookies from Wanda, before giving them the details of his talk with you, having their undivided attention.  “And she said she needs some time alone, being single, I mean, to sort her feelings out… Also, it seems like she doesn’t think I can’t deal with the kind of commitment that being in love requires,” he says with a mouthful.
“Oh, honey…” Nat tilts her head.
He notices the sympathy on hers and Wanda’s expressions and waves his hand to brush her worries off, “No, no. None of that. All in all, it went pretty well. As much as I wished it would be different, I think her decision is fair. At least she didn’t say yes to the jackass with the ring,” he huffs, “I wasn’t really expecting her to throw herself in my arms. At least, not just yet.” He smirks.
“What?” Natasha shoots a look at Wanda before turning to him, “You’re not stepping aside?”
Bucky snorts at the question, “Are you kidding me? The first broad I ever fall in love with and you think I’ll leave the path free for that short little clown who thinks ten years matter?” He lets out an exaggeratedly loud laugh, “I’ve lived more than one hundred of them. Ten years mean nothing to me, and soon enough she’ll realize it doesn’t have to mean much to her, either.” A small smile rises on his face, “Of course she can have the time for herself she wants, find out what’s like being single. She deserves that. And she can think and figure out all she needs… have her fun... It’s all good…” He nods, “But in the meanwhile? I’ll be around romancing the shit out of that woman,” he states, right before tossing another cookie in his mouth.
“Holy shit,” Wanda addresses Natasha, with both eyebrows high on her forehead.
“I know…” Nat answers with an equally dumbfounded look on her face, before turning to Bucky, “Listen,” she sighs and tilts her head, “I hate to be such a killjoy here, but… I get you’re in love, and I know this is new and exciting for you.” She’s smiling before her lips tighten, “Having said that… I think she might have a point about you not being ready for commitment Bucky, you never wanted that. I’m gonna be honest here, I’m the one who set what you two had up because I thought it wouldn’t lead to this…” She waves all around him, “Feelings, I mean… and I would hate myself if you two ended up hurt because of it.” She focuses an apprehensive gaze on him while Wanda also rests her attention on him, looking like she agrees with her friend.
Bucky takes a good look between the two of them before putting into words the answer that’s so clear on his head now, “I know it may sound weird and uncharacteristic of me. Trust me, I know that.” He nods at Natasha, taking a moment to silently communicate with her in the way that has been always so easy for the two of them, “You’re right, I’ve never wanted that. Settling down to just one person, commit to a long term relationship…But with her,” he sighs and the corner of his lips curl up without further notice, “I want her and I want all of that with her, the whole package. I’m ready. I’m not afraid. I think the reason I didn’t want all of that before is because I hadn’t met her yet. That’s it. Simple as that. I know it’s not going to be easy, but to hell with easy. I want her. And I want her hard.”
Wanda already has a huge grin on her face when a satisfied little smirk twists Nat’s lips, “That’s what Amanda said.”
Bucky’s eyes widen before he squints at her, “What’ve you been up to?”
Nat puts on a nonchalant face and reaches forward to grab a cookie from the package. She takes a bite and shrugs, “Poor girl… needed some comfort after being let down by your buddy down there.”
Bucky lets out an outraged scoff and throws a cookie on her way, from which she dodges easily as she laughs, “I bet you were of great help in consoling her… Jesus… Amanda and you? The world isn’t ready.” He shakes his head.
Natasha sports a smug smile on her face when she nods her agreement, “You’re not wrong.”
“Alright, as much as I want to hear all about this Amanda girl, we’re getting close to the Skrull base now and we need you to land us, Nat,” Wanda nods towards the dash.
“Copy that,” Natasha makes a military salute at her, before shifting her seat and taking control of the ship again.
“And as for you,” Wanda turns to Bucky, “I don’t need to read what’s on your mind to know you’re telling us the truth. You’re ready for commitment,” she offers him a soft smile, which he reciprocates, “And if you really wanna show her that, I may have an idea.” Her smile turns into a devious little smirk and that’s enough to pique Bucky’s interest.
~~~
“Are you sure this is a good idea?” Bucky asks, shoving his hands in his pockets as he walks alongside Wanda through the busy sidewalks of Manhattan, “I mean… I know I said yes, but it is one hell of a commitment, what if it’s not for me?”
“Don’t worry, Bucky,” she smiles, “We’re just gonna take a look around, feel the vibe, and then see what happens. You don’t have to decide anything just yet,” she assures, wrapping an arm around his elbow as he looks down at her, “I just think it’s a good idea for you to get to know a bit more of this sudden inclination to commit…to experiment, I guess,” Wanda shrugs, “Besides, a dear friend of mine runs the shelter and the girl knows her stuff. If she feels like you’re not ready, she won’t allow you to get out of there with one of her babies.”
Bucky lets out a laugh. Feeling a little lighter about the subject, he places his hand over the one Wanda has wrapped around his arm, “Alright… I’m not opposed to the idea of having a dog, I guess. I always loved Labradors…” he frowns, “I would have to switch apartments, though…”
“Look at you.” Wanda nudges her shoulder on him, “Already making plans for your child…”
“Child…” Bucky can’t help but snort. He had agreed to Wanda’s idea of going to an animal shelter because he thought it would be a good way to show you he’s ready for commitment and, like he said, he’s always been fond of dogs and he’s sure if he ends up taking one home he’ll treat them well. But he also never understood how some people could be so attached to an animal to the point of considering them a child, or family…“I don’t know… I’m definitely not taking a pet home today. I agree with you, I shouldn’t decide anything just yet.”
As they walk past a small alleyway, Wanda halts, forcing him to stop with her.
“What?” Bucky frowns down at her.
“Shhh,” she brings a finger to her lips, staring towards the alleyway, “Listen.”
That’s when Bucky’s enhanced hearing catches the thin and shaky little sound coming through the trash cans.
“Come on,” Wanda pulls him to the alley and towards the cans.
What they find behind one of the containers, among all the filth around is a ball of white fur. Curled up and shaking just like the meows they heard seconds ago. A cat, a young adult white cat looks up and a pair of baby blue eyes meets Bucky’s and he just can’t look away from the plea on them and it’s just when something clicks inside his chest.
“Oh, no, look,” Wanda points at the tail, that has an evident injury on it, but when she leans down to examine it further, the animal flinches and rushes towards Bucky’s legs, letting out another trembling and weak meow. Bucky freezes as it starts climbing up his calves.
Given the poor coordination on their back little legs – probably from the damage on the tail- it can go much higher,  but keeps trying. After the initial surprise, Bucky can’t help but to smile at the little fighter, who seems to reach out at him for protection. Next thing he knows, he’s leaning down and picks it up with all the caution he can muster.
“Hello, little lady… what happened there, huh?” He coos, nodding towards the small injury, which looks like a bite, having the cat meowing while bumping and rubbing the head against his chest.
“Is it a female?” Wanda tilts her head, an amused and questioning expression on her face.
Bucky smirks, not taking his eyes away from the animal, who is now quiet and seems much calmer, but digging her little claws on Bucky’s shirt, “I know a beautiful lady when I see one. Don’t I, gorgeous?”
A purring sound comes out of the now contented animal, the small injury on her tail apparently not being a problem anymore while she climbs higher and practically hugs Bucky with her little paws, whose fur is smudged by dirt, making his heart take a flip in his chest. Damn his heart nowadays…
“Aww, Bucky…” Wanda smiles, placing her hand over her heart, “What are we going to do? Should we take her to the shelter?” Wanda offers, with a bit of tentativeness on her voice.
Bucky’s eyes widen largely, before they snap to her friend. A protective tightness laces his hold on Alpine, who lets out another weak meow. Shit… Alpine? When the hell did he even come up with a name? Fuck if he knows, all he knows he’s done for and can’t possibly think of parting from that white furry little thing, who seems to have gone through a lot in her life already and probably has never met with human kindness before.
He doesn’t need to say anything as understanding falls upon Wanda’s face. He would even guess there’s a bit of pride adorning the smile on her lips now, “Alright, alright… we do need to take Alpine to the vet, though, Mr. I’m not gonna take a pet home today.” She winks.
~~~
PRESENT DAY…
“Oh well…” Bucky scratches the back of his neck while you keep your beautiful interested eyes on him, “I found this beauty on the street… she had an injured tail, poor thing… probably bitten by a dog. But she’s fine now, aren’t you, sweetie?” He coos, putting on the new tone of voice that belongs to Alpine now and loving the sound of your chuckle, “You know… I’m fully committed to taking care of her. I’m a cat dad now.” He says, putting some effort to highlight the word “committed”.
“I can see that…” you comment, nodding with a glimmer of fondness in your gaze at where Alpine is cuddled against him with eyes closed, completely relaxed.
Bucky looks down and smiles. That one is too cute for her own good, but he’s definitely having a talk with her later, for hissing at you like that, like he hadn’t given her a lecture about good behavior and how incredible you were before they left home.
“So, it’s been a while, huh? How’re you doing?” He asks softly, boring his eyes on you and holding back every ounce of him to not pull you to his arms and shower you with all the intense love he’s gathering in his chest at your sight in front of him. If it was up to him, he wouldn’t have spent those long weeks apart from you, but he met with missions and an Alpine in the way. Also, as much as he’s resolved to show you he’s the one for you, he understands you needed time for yourself. But, hell, he missed you so much.
“Oh, I’m good, I’m good… pretty good,” you ramble, brushing a finger behind your ear, that thing you do when you become a bit self-conscious, which happens often when he places his gaze so intently on you.
He can’t help but smile, his chest impossibly swelled with his feelings for you, because that woman who becomes all flustered with his attention is the same woman who whined to suck his dick while shitfaced after a party. Damn, he’s so in love with you.
“That’s great...Are you free tonight?” He asks, smoothly, “Wanda and Sam will make hamburgers, they’re one hell of a team in the kitchen, you’ll be welcome to come if you want to.”
“Oh… I…” You falter.
“I’m not trying anything, I promise,” He’s quick to add with a chuckle and raises his free hand up, noticing the trepidation in your voice. “Everyone’s gonna be there. We’re just gonna eat and hangout.” He shrugs.
“Oh… no, it’s not that, it’s just…” You tighten your lips “I’ve got plans.” Something Bucky guesses to be disappointment or something like that sweeps into your voice. As for him, he holds his breath, bracing himself for the news that you’re going out with that douche of an ex, “I’m gonna meet some friends from college tonight. I got a reservation for us for dinner and then we’re gonna go dance…”
Bucky lets out a breath and the smile that grows in his face is wide when he says, “Oh, alright. That sounds like fun.” Really, really fun, especially if that jackass isn’t involved. He’s not disappointed. Far from it.
You smile back at him, matching his mood. It doesn’t slip from his attention that you seem a bit surprised by his reaction at you declining an invitation from him in favor to hang out with your friends, but he says nothing of it.
“Yeah… I’ve been getting reacquainted with them lately,” you say, excitement plastered on the little curve of your lips and the glint in your eyes, “It’s been fun. I’d love to get to know Wanda and Sam’s talent in the kitchen, though….Maybe some other time?” You offer.
“Sounds perfect, sweetheart.”
The term of endearment brings the effect he was aiming for when you promptly does that thing with your finger on your ear again, but it was also noticed by the other girl in the room and currently in his arm, who seems to wake up from her comfort slumber against his chest to hiss at you again.
You look at each other in widened eyes.
“What the hell,” Bucky scolds down at the cat, glancing at you briefly, catching your now amused expression, before addressing Alpine again in a whispery voice, “We’re gonna have a talk back home, young lady.”
~~~
“What a number you put out there, huh?” His voice is gentle despite the reprimanding intention in his words while Bucky crouches and fills her little plate with the special food the vet recommended.
With her crystal-clear eyes glued on the plate, Alpine doesn’t really acknowledge his half attempt of admonishing her before digging in.
Bucky chuckles, “She’s cute, isn’t she? But so are you,” He scratches the back of her ear and she stops eating for a moment to brush her head against his hand, “You don’t have to be jealous, doll. You’re so cute, you’re my girl, too, you know?” he coos, still petting her, “But you gotta help me out there buddy. Ok? She’s really special and I know you’ll love her, too.”
Alpine lets out a weak meow before getting back to her plate and Bucky swears to God he sometimes wonders if the cat is some sort of shapeshifter in disguise, understanding every little thing he says.
Letting her out to eat, he stands up, “Hey, Friday,” he calls.
“Yes, Bucky?”
“Could you search for a table reservation in the name of Y/N Y/L/N tonight? I need the address of the place.”
A small silence ensues before the A.I speaks again, “Isn’t it a bit creepy?”
He sighs, placing his hands on his hips, “Friday… babe…” He smiles at the giggles that resound in his kitchen, before bringing a hand to his heart, “I’m in love, ok? I’m not gonna ruin her night…If anything, I’m just going to make her night out with her friends more… interesting.”
“Alright, you know I can’t say no to you,” the A.I concedes, “You can find the address in your phone’s map. Good luck, handsome.”
“Thanks, babe,” Bucky grins, before turning to Alpine, who’s now about done with her food, sprawled on the floor busy with cleaning out her paws, “And you?” He calls, catching her attention before he points at her, “You’ll have burgers with your aunt Wanda. I have plans for tonight.”
“Two Weeks” (Galmar Stone-Fist X Female!Reader)
For the lovely @cassiewolfe208! You didn’t say whether or not you wanted female, male or neutral reader so I went with female. Anyway I’m gonna go drown in Holy Water. Enjoy!
WARNING: NSFW UNDER CUT!
---------------
Galmar paced the floors of Hjerm, swearing as he did. It had been 2 weeks since he had heard anything out of you after you told him about raiding a Dragon Priest den. Finally, you sent a letter yesterday, telling him that your all good and you’d be back today.
Galmar was mad, to say the least. You could’ve sent a letter earlier or something. He did nothing but worry about you for the entire week. He couldn’t eat, he couldn’t sleep, he couldn’t focus on his work. He was gonna make sure you never heard the end of it.
The door clicked open and Galmar turned on his heels and took a deep breath, preparing himself to yell at you. But, after he saw you, he had no words. You had bruises on your face and arms and bandages around your torso that had blood on the outside. Galmar looked at you shocked.
“Baby…” he whispered. You smiled at him, almost holding back tears.
“It’s not as bad as it looks,” you said, trying to make him feel better, “you should have seen it last week” you laughed. Galmar stood in silence. You sighed and walked over to him and hugged him.
“I missed you,” he whispered, “a lot.” He placed his hand on the small of your back. You made eye contact with him and cupped his face.
“I can see that,” You said, gesturing to the exhaustion in his eyes. “Why not show me how much you missed me?” you said kissing his neck and wrapping your arm around the other side.
“Are you sure?” he whispered, running his hand lightly against your bandages. You chuckled against his neck
“Ah that healed two days ago,” you whispered, “the only thing left to heal is deep inside of me.”
You pulled Galmar by the arm all the way upstairs to the bedroom. You nudged him slightly, suggesting he lay on his back in the bed. Galmar held his hands up in defeat.
“Yes ma’am” he said, laying down on the bed. You took off your boots and pants and threw them to the side. You straddled him and unbuttoned his shirt, leaving his abs exposed. You slid your arms over his and grabbed his hands and leaned in to kiss him.
As the makeout session got even more heated, you grinded your hips on his, earning a moan out of both of you. Galmar grabbed your hips with his hands and you ran yours up his chest, trying to keep yourself balanced.
“Fuck..” Galmar moaned, “you're always so good.” He bucked his hips up to yours, hoping to get more friction. You lifted yourself up slightly and unbuttoned his pants and pulled them down to his knees.
Galmar reached down and held himself up as you positioned yourself and slowly went down. The air in your throat hitched slightly as his cock entered your ass. The muscles in your legs tightened up as you tried to catch your breath.
“How is it…” you breathed, “how is it everytime we do this you always seem to feel bigger somehow?” Galmar laughed. You put your hands on his chest and rocked your hips back and forth, biting your lip. Galmar ran his hands up your sides under your shirt.
You bounced up and down on his cock, practically screaming as it hit all the right places, with Galmar in the same situation.
“Oh god...I’m gonna-” you moaned out.
“Me too baby…” Galmar moaned. You both screamed as you hit your climax, him cumming inside of you. You leaned forward and laid your head on Galmar’s shoulder.
“You ok?” Galmar asked. You leaned up and pulled his cock out.
“I’m fine handsome.” you winked. Suddenly, you heard a noise from the other side of the room.
“My Thane are yo-OH BY TALOS!” Calder yelled as he saw the sight. Calder was in shock and didn't move. You pulled off one of Galmar’s boots and threw it at him, just barely missing him.
“Out!” you screamed at him.
“I’m so sorry My Thane!” Calder yelled as he ran out. Galmar started laughing like a maniac. You looked at him in annoyance, hitting him on the chest.
“What?!” you yelled.
“I think the kid pissed himself!”
Hey. I have a request for a Carol Danvers x fem!reader....? Maybe where Carol is feeling guilty about her past and how she hurt the Skrulls before she found out what the Kree were doing, and reader comforts her and it’s just super soft?
Forgotten Past- Carol Danvers x Female! Reader
Tumblr media
Warning: sad! Carol :(, a little angst, mostly fluff
Summary: Carol reminisces on how she hurt the skrulls after being lied to by the kree and you help her remember who she really is
Word count: 757
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Carol was sitting on the couch, with her legs crossed, watching tv when she heard you curse out. "SHIT!" Carol turned around, towards the direction of the kitchen. She pushed her legs off the couch and walked to the kitchen.
She reached the kitchen and leaned her arm against the wall, watching you. "What happened this time?" You looked up at Carol then back at the mess the blender had made on the floor. "I think i broke the blender." Carol rolled her eyes and smiled. She walked over to the blender, put the lid on and pressed the button. The blender came to life and it worked like normal. You smiled, embarrassed. "Well...at least one of us knows how to work the blender." Carol laughed and walked back down to the couch.
On her way to the couch, he passed by a picture you had framed on a little table. It was of Carol talking to talos. She remembers the picture like it was yesterday
                           ~~~~~~~~~~~~
Talos and his family had come to visit Carol. It was the first time you would meet the skrulls. Carol was very concerned on how you would react.
Talos had landed the ship and walked out to greet Carol. "Long time no see." Carol said. She reached out her hand and he took it, shaking it. "It's nice to see you again, captain." She smiled. Talos then turned his attention to you, standing behind Carol, holding goose and stroking her. You smiled and reached out your hand. Carol smiled and looked back at talos. "Talos, this is my girlfriend, y/n this is talos."
He took your hand and shook it. "It's very nice to meet you." He smiled at you then looked down at your arms to see goose and he backed up a little. Carol snickered and leaned over to whisper in your ear. "He's afraid of goose." Your eyes widened and you were quick to put goose down. She lifted her tail up and strutted back towards the house. "I'm sorry." He waved his hand. "It's fine." He then started talking to carol and you saw the perfect opportunity to snap a picture. You secretly pulled out your phone and took a picture of them talking. It was candid but it described their relationship perfectly. Carol was smiling while talking to talos. It was rare to get Carol to smile.
                                 ~~~~~~~~~
Carol snapped back into reality when she heard the blender stop and your quiet celebration. She looked at the picture and felt guilt. She had hurt the skrulls because of the kree lies. She had killed so many. Why couldn't have she seen the signs before.
She didn't hear you walk up on her and as soon as you saw the guilt on her face, you quickly put the cups down on the table and walked back over to her.
"Carol, what's wrong?" She looked over at you and tried to mask her sadness. "Nothing. Just thinking." You looked at her and raised your eyebrow, clearly examining her. "Ok. Tell me the truth. What's wrong?" She sighed and decided she couldn't hide anything from you so she just told you. "I feel bad. About how i treated the skrulls." You sighed and looked at her with sad eyes. You grabbed her hand and pulled her over to the couch and sat down. "Carol, don't feel bad. They understand that you were lied to. They're not blaming you. You were brainwashed and kidnapped by the kree. The kree are the bad guys here." She didn't seem at all convinced so you got up and walked to you guys bedroom. You rummaged through the closet until you found what you were looking for.
You walked out of the bedroom and into the living room with her suit. "Tell me, this is you're suit, correct?" She sighed and nodded. "Yeah." You smiled and continued. "You're name is captain marvel, correct?" She nodded again, still confused. "And captain marvel is a hero, am i right?" She nodded. "Then why are you talking about you being the bad guy? You're a hero. You're my hero. You'll always be." Carol smiled. "Thank you." You pulled her into a hug and kissed her head. "I'll always be here for you, love."
A/n: i hope you like it :)

Just Another Soldier Chapter 7
Yon-Rogg x reader
Summary:  Post-snap
Word Count: 1621
A/N: Okay, this was written before Endgame came out, so it was just me speculating. I might eventually branch off and write another that follows the plot for real, but this one IS NOT CANON COMPLIANT IN THE SLIGHTEST. Also, since it was written before, it’s got no spoilers, but I doubt anyone that cares has still not seen it by the time this goes live. ALSO, as usual, this is all I’ve got for the time being on this one (as of 28 May 2019), and I’m not actively planning more. Later down the line I might add to it, so check the Masterlist if you’re reading it a decent amount of time after the listed date, but as of that date, I’ve got nothing to add to this.
“We’re going to need backup if we’re going to make this plan work,” Steve was saying. What remained of the Avengers after the snap—Carol and Nebula included—were gathered in the meeting room. “We need an army strong enough to act as a distraction. Anyone got any ideas?”
Carol was the first to speak up. “I might have a couple strings I can pull, but I don’t know if they made it through.”
“Find out. Right now, I don’t care where they come from.”
“Enemy of my enemy …” Scott muttered.
“Exactly.”
It was a matter of hours once Carol sent her messages and already there were two simultaneous proximity alerts announcing two arrivals. The others were resting, but Steve and Carol stepped outside to greet the two ships.
A skrull left his ship first.
“Steve, this is Talos. He’s an old friend.”
“What’s this I hear about you planning on attacking Thanos?” the alien smiled. “It’s good to see you, Carol.”
“You too,” she replied, happily hugging her friend. “Your family?”
“All safe. We all escaped alive, surprisingly. Many others were not that lucky. That’s why I’m here.”
“Thank you for coming,” Steve said earnestly.
“Of course.” Talos glanced over his shoulder at the other ship. “Am I mistaken, or is that a Kree vessel?”
“It is,” Carol’s voice was noticeably on-edge. “You’ll want to get behind me when they come out. Just in case. I’m not sure who it was that picked up my call.”
“Oh, now that’s just delightful.” The hatch of the other hip hissed as it started opening, so he moved as instructed. “I’ve got a ten-man squad in my ship, by the way.”
“That’s gr—” Carol cut herself off at the sight of the person that was descending the ramp. “Oh, no . . .”
It was Y/N. Or rather, it looked more like the ghost of Y/N. Her once practically glowing emerald suit was dulled by scorch marks and scuffs. Old bloodstains that hadn’t been cleaned surrounded tears in places like the abdomen and left leg.
I really hope she isn’t hurt, Carol thought.
The most striking feature, however, was her face. The warrior captain was pale, her eyes red and tired. Memories of that conversation Carol had eavesdropped on danced around her mind. Back then, Y/N had said she’d never seen her husband look so tired. Now, it seemed it was her turn.
“Y/N …” Carol breathed.
“Vers,” the woman greeted stiffly.
Carol didn’t bother to correct her old friend. “What happened?”
“I think you can guess. He didn’t make it, and I didn’t get to say goodbye. I just woke up to a bed full of dust.”
Steve winced upon hearing that. He knew nothing about this beaten-looking stranger, but he knew how it felt to watch his best friend vanish. Just waking to that … The pain would be unimaginable. He could infer that this mystery man was someone both females knew, but this woman was obviously involved with him romantically.
“Thank you for coming despite … everything, I guess.”
Talos wanted to make a remark about how this woman was Kree—a ruthless one at that he’d learned from the one time they’d crossed paths on the battlefield—but it was clear that she was still mourning. As vicious as her kind could be, no one in the universe had deserved the fate bestowed upon them by the Titan.
Cold, Y/E/C eyes met Carol’s. “I just want my husband back.”
That was all the prompting Carol needed to jog forward and hug her friend. “We’ll bring him back. Him and everyone else.”
The soldier met Talos’ eyes over Carol’s shoulder. Worry lanced through his heart for an instant before the woman nodded. It was a clear sign between the old soldiers that they would find no enemy this day. He solemnly returned the gesture.
“Let’s head inside,” Steve announced once the moment passed. “Talos, bring your troops. Everyone needs to meet to make this plan work.”
It was the night before they put phase one of the plan into action, and of course Steve couldn’t sleep. And from his ensuing wandering around the base, it looked like not many people could. Clint was holed up in the air vents, Natasha in the gym, Tony and Rhodes were in the shop with Banner. Steve could almost believe it was a normal night. If not for the hollow feeling that haunted almost everyone in the building, that is.
So really, it shouldn’t have been a surprise when he stumbled across a certain Kree captain on the room, standing by the railing and looking up at the stars.
“Couldn’t sleep?” The words left his mouth before he thought about how cliché they were.
She didn’t seem to mind, though. “No.”
He took up the place next to her. “It’s still amazing to think that you guys came from up there,” the man from another time admitted, eyes gazing up at the stars in wonder.
“I suppose it would be impressive around here,” she mused. “Where I’m from it’s pretty standard.”
“Where are you from?”
“A Kree colony at first. Descended from Asgardians somewhere up in the family tree … Moved to Hala after the colony was destroyed. Called it home ever since.”
Steve chuckled. “Descended from Asgardians, huh? That have anything to do with Carol telling me she could never beat you in a spar?”
Y/N actually laughed. “Maybe, but don’t tell her that. Got to keep some of the mystery somehow. At least, that’s what my husband used to say.”
“Would it be rude if I asked you about him? He’s obviously important to you.”
“It’s fine. We’d just celebrated our 34th anniversary he week before it happened. Known each other since we were fifteen …”
Old memories started to play behind her eyelids. That time on Volda, that first spar, even all the times Vers had woken them early itching for a fight. The one that stuck out however was the time he proposed.
They’d been on leave on a war, frosted planet she couldn’t recall the name of not long after finally finishing their time on Volda. She’d complained that she wanted to enjoy the local sun’s warmth after all that time in the cold and mud, so they spent part of the day dozing on the cabin’s porch.
At some point, she ended up lying with her head in his lap as he watched the local fauna walk by obliviously. The yellow sunlight made his hair appear almost blond, and made those golden eyes practically glow. “This is perfect,” she’d murmured, hand squeezing the one he had resting on her stomach.
He inhaled as if to say something as he looked down at her and seemingly cut himself off. One of those smiles that only lasts a second but leaves the corners of the lips quirked up for hours flitted across his face. “Yes, it is.” The love in those molten eyes could not be mistaken as anything else. “Have you ever thought about marriage?”
She shook her head, having an inkling of where he was going with this. “Not really. You know as well as I that it’s not exactly the norm for soldiers.”
“Fair enough,” he chuckled. “Well, what would you say if I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you?”
“I think I’d have to ask you to marry me.” She sat up as she spoke, eyes never leaving his as she moved to straddle his legs.
“Then what are you waiting for?”
“Yon-Rogg, will you—” She was cut off by his lips meeting hers. The scruff of his beard scratched at her skin as they kissed.
“Of course I will,” came his reply hours later once they were snuggled together under the large bed’s plush covers.
She pressed a sleepy kiss to his shoulder. “Good.”
The memory ended, and she opened her eyes, returning to the present where Steve was still standing quietly beside her. “Sorry,” she apologized quietly.
“It’s not a problem. My best friend was lost … I’d just gotten him back … He was the only one I knew back before I went into the ice.”
“I’ll show you mine if you show me yours?” she tried to joke. The smile was half-hearted, but he appreciated the effort.
“Deal.”
Steve was the first to fish out a couple pictures of his best friend. One was old. Black-and-whit old. And it showed a rather handsome man in a military uniform. The other was clearly new. Crystal clear, full color. It showed the same man, this time tired around the eyes and scruffier, with longer hair. “James Buchanan Barnes. Pulled me out of so many fights when we were kids. Hydra, real bad guys, took him and made him a weapon. I just got him back. He was recovering before Thanos came.”
“Handsome guy.”
“Easy now,” Steve chuckled. “You’re a married woman.”
“Speaking of,” with that, she used her suit’s computer to display a hologram of her husband. It hurt, looking at the three-dimensional rendering of him standing there proudly in his uniform. The photo had been taken a handful of days before the snap; he’d just gotten a promotion. Mischief sparkled in those golden eyes even in the hologram, and a smirk pulled at his lips. She hadn’t looked at the photo since she woke up without him, covered in his remains. She couldn’t bare to. Even now, she felt nausea creeping through her very being, forcing her to close the image after a few moments. “Sorry, I can’t—”
Steve seemed to understand. He gently squeezed her shoulder in solidarity. “Handsome guy.”
She could only fight back a sob.

Best Friend (Carol x Reader)

Fandom: Marvel
Character: Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel)
Persona: Female
Word Count: 1,050
Request:   can u do carol danvers x reader base on rex orange county's "bestfriend"?
A/N - A link to the song is here --> Best Friend - Rex Orange County. It will be quite long due to the length of the lyrics so apologies in advance! <3
THIS WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR CAPTAIN MARVEL
You weren’t even supposed to be working on that fateful day but unfortunately Phil Coulson was sick and Nick Fury really needed backup for this investigation, even though he insisted he didn’t. When your alarm rang out this morning you sighed, contemplating if you should even bother going; Fury said he’d be okay right? Then you thought about how angry your director would be if you didn’t turn up and that was something you didn’t want to deal with. Sighing, you left your bed.
I should've stayed at home 'Cause right now I see all these people that love me But I still feel alone Can't help but check my phone I could've made you mine But no, it wasn't meant to be and see, I wasn't made for you And you weren't made for me Though it seemed so easy
You thought she was really strange at first, not just with her attire, it wasn’t the fact she was talking about aliens either and it wasn’t her name, (even though you thought Vers was quite a strange name). There was just something about her that you couldn’t quite put your finger on, maybe it was the way she made you laugh with her attitude like when she blasted her way into the archives room and made Fury mad. Maybe it was the way her hair fell perfectly despite having just fought off multiple agents or maybe it was her quick thinking and intelligence.
There was just something about her so...wonderful and inspiring.
And that's because I wanna be your favorite boy I wanna be the one that makes your day The one you think about as you lie awake I can't wait to be your number one I'll be your biggest fan and you'll be mine But I still wanna break your heart and make you cry
You finally realised what it was on your ride to to Mar-Vell’s ship: you were in love with her, even though you’d known each other for a short amount of time it felt like you’d known her your whole life. She was everything you wanted to be.
As Talos was reuniting with his family, you tentatively touched her arm. Carol’s calm expression softened even more, “You good?”, she asked placing her hand on top of yours. You wanted to tell her, you wanted to scream it at her but you knew the timing wasn’t right; you still needed to get the Skrull to a safe place. “Yeah everything’s good”, you forced out with a smile, “I’m just glad we’re doing this together”.
She returned your smile in an instant, beaming back at you, “Me too (Y/N)”.
But won't you wait You know it's too late I'm on my own shit now Let me tell you how it feels to be fucking great I feel great Woah, woah, woah, woah, woah You need to be yourself Love someone for loving you instead of someone really cool That makes your heart melt Who knows what you truly felt? You're still my favorite girl You better trust me when I tell you There ain't no one else more beautiful in this damn world In this damn world
Watching her say goodbye was one of the hardest moments of your life. The guilt you felt from your selfishness was horrendous, but you couldn’t help yourself, “Can’t you stay? We’re gonna miss you”.
Carol reached out and touched your shoulder gently, her face sombre, “I wish I could, but I have to help them. They need me (Y/N)”. You plucked the hand from your shoulder and held it in your own, almost like you were savouring her touch, “We need you too, what happens when Earth’s in danger?”. Carol’s thumb rubbed your own in an attempt to soothe you, “Well for a start there’s you and Fury, you both already kick ass”, she said making you chuckle although the laughter was only short lived. “But what if we really do need you?”.
She looked over your shoulder to Fury, nodding at him she looked back to you, “If you need me I’ll come, I promise”. Carol’s free hand swiped at the tears on your cheeks which had started to fall, “You better”, you mockingly threatened. Carol smiled at you, “I never break a promise”.
You're gonna wanna be my best friend, baby You're gonna wanna be my best friend I said that You're gonna wanna be my best friend, baby You're gonna wanna be my best friend (best friend) You're gonna wanna be my best friend, baby You're gonna wanna be my best friend Best friend You're gonna wanna be my best friend, baby You're gonna wanna be my best friend
You stood, arms wrapped loosely around your body, as the ship with the Skrull took off. Dread was filling you; time was running out.
You didn’t care that you were fully weeping now as you turned to look at Carol. She offered you a small smile, one which you tried hard to match but you could barely move the corner of your lips. She pulled you into a warm embrace, your arms gripped onto her like she was the last thing in the world, her scent was sweet with a hint of smoke, something which you burned into your memory.
“I’ll see you soon alright?”, she whispered into your ear as her hand rubbed your back, “So stop crying or Fury’s gonna realise you ain’t so tough”. You laughed a sob into her hair and involuntarily tightened your grip, “You better Carol or I’ll build myself a spaceship and I’ll kick your ass myself”. Her laughter was such a joyous noise. She started to pull back and sadly you had to let go.
“Oh I’d like to see you try (Y/N)”, Carol winked, making your heart flutter. She then turned to everyone else and started saying her goodbyes while you watched dully.
“Look after Goose for me”, Carol grinned hovering slightly above the ground, “I’ll see you guys around”. Instantly she blasted off leaving a brilliant hue of colours behind and you with a broken heart.
Surprisingly, Fury was the one to console you, “She’ll be back”.
I say that I'm happy I say that I'm happy But no, no, no, no No, no, no, oh

i. In which you wake up
In silence, you sat down in the dark, hospital-like room. Two days passed and he was still sleeping, unconscious. Nothing more you wished but seeing his eyes again. His real eyes.
How? It didn't matter how, either in his real skin or his human disguise, you missed him and he was once everything for you. And that never changed. A book was lying on your lap but your attention was focused on other things. On him and the memories you were trying so hard to forget, until you realized that would not happen. His memory was strong in your head.
You wished somehow your paths would cross one more time, to give yourselves a chance again. However, this wasn't how you wanted it to happen.
Years before, Fury presented both of you for a mission. You started with SHIELD at a very young age, so this was a huge step in your career inside the organization. But it was also the downfall of your heart.
Talos and you spent more than a year together in Europe, him in his human skin most of the time as it was required. And you fell for him - hard. The thoughts of your last night together in that hotel room were vividly in your head... it was perfect. His touch, his words, his warmth, his lovely words... Until you woke up to an empty spot on the bed, with a small note on the boudoir saying:
"I'm sorry, I have to go."
And that was it.
Until Fury called you, inexplicably, and you didn't have a heart to say no to this situation. So Talos was sleeping on the bed of this room, with you taking care of him until he would be awake again. A sigh left your lips, wishing he would finally open his eyes and you'd be able to see him, and talk to him, to feel him. With a sigh, you went back to the book you had, looking over his serene figure sleeping on the bed by your side. Hopefuly he was going to wake up soon.
It was about half an hour later than you forgot about your book and observed how he slowly blinked, trying to get used to the dim light in the room. He was back, just a little. Weak, but it was something. He started to move his hands slowly, looking around the place and feeling strange.
"G'iah..." he whispered with a raspy voice.
"She's okay," you soothed, lacing your hand with his own, carresing his real skin in a tight grip. "She's fine, you need to rest."
Your name comes out of his dry lips and it was hurting you. Quickly you took a glass of water from the nightstand and pour small sips on his lips while you helped Talos to sit down on your mattress.
After a moment of realization of where he was and what had happened, he looked at you as if a ghost appeared in front of his eyes. Your hand cupped softly his cheek and he leaned into your warm touch.
"Rest, we'll talk later."
"How many time..." he whispered, but couldn't finish the question.
"Just a couple of days. Rest, you need it, G'iah is fine," you assured him, taking again his hand between yours.
"Fury?"
"He's doing fine too, don't worry about that old man," you smiled sweetly. "Fury called me, he brought you here."
"Where?" Talos breathed, you squeezed his hand softly, afraid of what would happen next.
"My home."
Tumblr media
ii. In which you confront
You were not ready for this, but you accepted to take care of the former general skrull during his recovery. It was a hard thing to do, considering your history together and the fact that somehow you never got over him. Even if you forced yourself to do so.
It wasn't an easy task to do. G'iah somehow sent you a serum to inject his father as he came unconscious to your place. He was healing at a slow pace, but he was looking better now that he was up having a small dinner in your dinning room.
"So a super-skrull, huh?"
"That's what she is now, at least as far as I know."
Talos nodded completely focused on the food on his plate, he was really hungry. Poor thing, a lot of things were happening in his life. "This might be a bit shocking or weird for you..."
He shook his head, looking at you with his big purple eyes. "Not as much as I thought," he said while he took a bite. "Y'know, things are crazy after the Blip... And being honest, I thought I'd be dead by now."
You tried to chuckle, but brushed it off. He was still here. Alive. With you.
"Your daughter is so brave. She really saved you, Talos."
He breathed, you were sure he didn't know he was holding all that air inside his lungs.
"I really don't know what to say to that. She's gone again. Feels like I never had her back."
"Hey, I will contact her."
"I'd love that, but first, could we talk?" Talos locked his eyes with yours for the first time that day.
"About what?"
"About what does this mean," he whispered.
"You're the one who left and years later I am here taking care of you, and now you're questioning me?" it was more an affirmation than a question. "Incredible. You should sleep now."
"I'm not- Listen, I'm not trying to make you say something. I know I'm the one who has to apologize," Talos stuttered with his words, he looked and felt guilty.
But you also did feel that same way for years.
He was with you during your long mission, pretending something was happening between you and him, but he was still married in the end. Talos had a wife and a daughter, and for some time you ignored the reality. His reality. And you knew you were selfish, hurting someone you didn't even meet before just to feel loved and safe once in your life. However this was a game for two. And Talos never pushed back, he wanted it as much as you did.
Maybe the guilt suddenly appeared. Maybe it was Fury calling for him because of an emergency. Anything. After he left, you received a message stating the work was done. So you went back to your reality. Talos was still the general when you messed up, and he was looking for a new planet to call home so nothing was guaranteed. He would never give up his family or his people for a human like you. But in the end, you accepted his words. Because they were true to you. And he was all you had right now.
"I want to say sorry too," you mumbled. "We did bad things and they were not right."
Talos accepted your apology in silence. He knew too well what both of you did. Soreen eventually found out, but that was another story. Still, he loved her until her last day. He would love her forever. But she was long gone now.
"Maybe we should start again," he suggested after a moment of silence.
"Maybe."
Tumblr media
iii. In which you start again
Seven days passed after Talos woke up at your place and he was basically healed by now.
The wound on his chest was almost gone and you were glad he decided to take a break before speaking to Fury once again and running behind him.
Talos started to get his human form again, with the face of the former boss of Fury. You liked him both ways, in his own skin or not. He was still as beautiful and kind as you remembered.
Though the routine was the same every day, you felt peace beside Talos, something you were missing in your life. His presence did make you feel better. So here you were, head on his shoulder while he read a book, both of you sitting on the couch of your quiet living room after dinner.
His voice soothed you, and for the first time in years you felt at home. Talos was reading a very old book of fairytales that he found fascinating for some reason. It was nice to see him enjoy something as mundane as a human book. But then, meanwhile his deep and soft voice read the words on the pages, you remembered that this was not going to last forever. It was already a problem that you wished it would continue.
Talos was going to leave someday, encouraged to find the home the skrulls missed and you will have to move on one more time.
"What's on your mind?" Talos voice interrupted your thoughts.
"Nothing."
"I just finished this chapter and you said nothing."
You chuckled. He was waiting for your comment or random fact that came out of nowhere.
"Sorry... I guess I'm sleepy right now."
Sitting properly on the couch you still remained by his side, he was warm and for some reason, he remained in his human disguise since a couple of days ago. You knew his face was another person you never met, but you couldn't stop yourself from admiring him when you were this close. You were so close you could kiss him.
"Your eyes are so blue," you mumbled. "I like them."
His lips curved on a smile and his puppy eyes were shining in the dim light, looking directly at you. "Maybe I should stay like this forever," he joked, referring to his human form.
"Whatever you prefer is fine for me. I wish you could stay with me though..."
His gaze fell down to the book on his lap. You knew that was not going to happen, but how you longed it after everything you shared. Kisses, personal secrets, lonely nights where your bodies gave to each other, even your sins...
"You don't have to answer that," you added.
"I wish that too," Talos said, locking your eyes with his own one more time. "You know I would... but-"
"What?"
"I have to help my people," he looked guilty.
"I know, Talos. I know that. And it's okay," in reality it wasn't. But you had to trick yourself to believe it in some way.
He mumbled a soft 'thank you' and kissed your forehead sweetly, embracing a strong arm around you and you allowed yourself to feel safe and sound after so many years. Words were not needed. You both knew what was going on, but he had to leave someday and just the thought of him running away again was hurting you.
Talos kissed the top of your head, inhaling your scent, and you remained like that for some minutes until he broke the silence.
"I love you."
"I know."
You pulled away from his embrace and pecked his lips softly, cupping his cheek with your hand. He had a silly smile as you kissed him.
"I love you too," you said after kissing him one last time. At least for the night.
"Let's get you to bed," he pecked your cheek and grabbed your hand heading his way to your bedroom. You chuckled following his steps knowing what he meant with his words.
If he was going to leave someday, then it was better to enjoy every minute together.

Hiding [Carol Danvers X Reader]
Tumblr media
Prompt: A lovely anon requested a Carol X Fem!Skrull reader where “you admire her and the effort put in to help your people but you're also shy and when you get nervous you tend to transform out of habit”.
Word Count: 1,571
Rating: General
A/N: This is my first time writing for Carol so please be gentle! I’m definitely still working on getting her character down. And I apologize this thing turned out to be wayyyy more of a character backstory than anticipated. Let’s just call it a warm up for future Carol fics...
Hiding was the one thing you knew you were good at. After all, it was all you ever seemed to be able to do.
Having the vicious, heartless Kree Empire chasing after your people day in and day out made it impossible for you to live a life of comfort and confidence. You’d spent years on the run, jumping from planet to planet and taking on the form of the native population. Every single time you moved to a new settlement, you prayed that it would be the last time you had to run.
C-53 was the closest you had come to finding a home in a long time. You had taken the form of a young human female, a visage you were almost perfectly comfortable in. You and your family found a perfect little house on the outskirts of a small town in California where your neighbors paid no mind to you. It was there that you stayed for the better part of a year.
Then, against all odds, an undercover Kree scientist by the name of Mar-Vell presented your people with a new opportunity: if your people put their faith in her and accepted her help, she would develop a light speed engine capable of carrying Skrull survivors to safety beyond the reach of the twisted Kree race.
And so you put your trust in Mar-Vell and in turn, Mar-Vell put her heart and soul into helping your people.
Fearing detection by the Kree Starforce and Accusers, Mar-Vell moved your family and the other Skrulls hiding on C-53 to her laboratory. Nearly undetectable under cloaking technology, the lab floated peacefully in orbit around the planet.
Mar-Vell’s lab had little to offer comfort wise. There were hardly any beds for your family to sleep on and a limited supply of food to consume. Most people would have found the place dark and depressing but, to your family, it was the best place you could be.
But hope was nearly lost when Mar-Vell was killed.
The Kree Starforce had discovered Mar-Vell’s plans to use the energy core’s power to help your people and quickly realized there was no reason to keep their highly-valued operative alive. Yon-Rogg, the ruthless leader of Starforce hunted her down and blasted her plane out of the sky before murdering her and kidnapping the young pilot Mar-Vell had trusted to pilot the plane.
With Mar-Vell dead and project Pegasus written off as a science experiment gone wrong, you and your family were left to wait…
Six years after Mar-Vell’s death, the proximity detector on board the laboratory started to sound, signaling an approaching ship. Someone had uncloaked the lab and was going to board.
Fear consumed every one of you onboard. Mothers prepared to fight to protect their children and every young Skrull began trembling. There was no doubt that if the Kree were there for the energy core, there would be nothing to stop them from murdering every last survivor in the lab. And so, you did as you always had: you hid.
It wasn’t until the vaguely familiar rumble of Talos’ call echoed through the lab that everyone understood there was no fight to be had. No. This was a rescue.
You hesitantly followed your people out into the main chamber of the laboratory and found Talos standing at the center of the room. He was quickly introduced to his child before everyone’s attention fell on the blonde woman standing by Mar-Vell’s computer. She was wearing the Starforce crest but the colors of her uniform were not that of the Kree.
“It’s okay,” Talos assured everyone, “She’s a friend.”
The woman, Carol, took a step forward. Her stance was strong and confident but the guilt and vulnerability in her eyes made it very clear she was not there to help, not shed blood.
Before a plan could be made to use the Tesseract to flee from C-53, Starforce warriors, including Yon-Rogg broke into the ship. Unarmed and unwilling to fight, your people were surrounded and dragged to a holding cell while Yon-Rogg and his henchmen proceeded to interrogate Carol.
Stories had been told to your people about the Supreme Intelligence and its almost mystical tie to the Kree people. If a Kree’s conscience was placed under the control of the Supreme Intelligence, there was no way they could fight their way out of the subdued state. The only way to get out was by the Supreme Intelligence’s will.
You feared for Carol. Though you had only known her for mere moments, you believed in her. She wanted to fight for your people, wanted to defy Kree rule in order to bring the Skrull race peace. You prayed for her. Perhaps, by some miracle, there was a way for her to break free from the Supreme Intelligence…
And she did.
Enlightened with the truth behind her powers and the lies of Yon-Rogg and the Kree, Carol finally unleashed her true potential. While she singlehandedly fought off the forces of the Starforce warriors, Talos led you and your people to the ship in the hanger where Carol’s companions, Maria and Fury, helped pilot you out of the lab and toward C-53.
One of the Starforce members managed to catch up soon thereafter and forced Maria into an all-out dog fight in the rocky canyons below. The plane took several hits, but Maria managed to pull a trick move using a split in the canyon and blasted the Starforce warrior to bits.
Of course, celebration was not yet in order. Having fled from the lab with Carol in pursuit, Yon-Rogg tracked the plane down and began an assault. Maria was quick, but Yon-Rogg’s ship was quicker. Another hit to the wing and your people would plummet to their deaths.
However, before Yon-Rogg could take the plane down, a small projectile soared past the plane and knocked Yon-Rogg’s ship right out of the sky. Everyone on board the plane stared in bewilderment.
“What in the hell was that?” Fury murmured.
Sure enough, the streak of light everyone assumed was a missile actually turned out to be Carol. Not only had she learned to let go of her restraints to fight with photon blasts; she was now using those powers to fly.
You couldn’t help but smile. Was there anything the woman couldn’t do?
When all was said and done and Carol had sent Yon-Rogg back to Hala to warn the Kree of her impending vengeance, you and the rest of your people took shelter in Maria’s home. It was cozy —all of your beloved friends and family nestled into the small rooms of the wooden house— and, for the time being, it was safe.
While Talos and his family shared dinner with Carol, Maria, and Fury, you wandered outside to enjoy a moment of peace. With the Starforce warriors defeated and the Accusers warded off by Carol’s immeasurable power, there was no sound outside but the distant chirping of crickets and the whistle of the wind blowing through the trees. It was, in every sense of the word, beautiful.
“Y’know, you’re more than welcome to join us.”
You nearly jumped. Spinning around, you were surprised to find Carol standing behind you with a gentle grin on her face.
“Oh.” You clutched at the fabric of your oversized cargo pants. “It’s okay. I just… I’m enjoying this.”
You turned away, hoping you could hide from her by isolating yourself. But Carol seemed to have other plans.
Taking a seat on the porch next to you, Carol let out a sigh. “There’s nothing like a gentle breeze on a clear night,” she said softly, “Maria and I used to spend hours and hours out here just listening to the leaves blow and watching the fireflies light up the sky like rogue stars.”
You glanced over at her. You had never seen someone so at peace.
“I’m sure back then you never thought you’d end up sitting next to a Skrull in the future.”
Carol let out a quick breath of laughter. “No, can’t say I ever did.”
You swallowed. “I can change. Into someone more…appealing,” you offered quietly, “If you want.”
She looked over at you. She was quiet for a moment. Then, having found whatever it was she was looking for, she sat up straight and reached out to grab your hand.
You nearly flinched at the sudden contact. Her grasp was firm but it certainly didn’t hurt. Her skin was remarkably warm and smooth: a feeling so wonderful you wanted to melt into it.
“Listen to me,” Carol said gently, “Never feel like you need to be somebody you’re not. Whether we’re here or somewhere way out there…” —she gestured to the night sky— “…if you’re around me, you never have to hide. From here on out, we get to be the people we want to be. We get to be ourselves.”
You couldn’t help the small smile that tugged at the corners of your mouth. “Okay.”
Carol grinned again —that big, confident, and glamorous grin— and nodded. “Okay,” she echoed with satisfaction before leaning back in the wicker chair.
A comfortable silence fell over the two of you. It was clear to you then that no matter where in the galaxy your people ended up, Carol was going to be there to make sure you were safe and, more importantly, that you could be yourselves.
No more hiding.

Foolish Girl - Part:One
Aela x Female! Reader
The commotion from the training yard resonated through the heavy wooden boards of the Mead hall. Skjor threw you against the rock foundation wall and pulled you onto the tip of your boots by the front of your leather armor. Your brothers burst through the doors to see the glint off the dagger you'd pressed against the warriors throat when he laid a hand on you. Your eyes were locked on eachother but you could feel the presence of the other Companions growing around you.
"I will never be like you." You hiss beneath your breath.
"Then you will never learn respect!" Skjor twists your arm backwards, turning you to face the growing crowd.
The sharp sound of Vilkas' inhale nearly drew your attention while you attempted to thrash away. The movements only forced more pain against your shoulder blade. A soft gasp breaks through your lips when the elder pulls your hair back to lift your chin.
"This is what it looks like when you lack honor!" He bellowed through the tense air.
"Skjor!" You met Aela's beautiful green eyes when she threw herself forward. "That is enough."
"You coddle her, Aela. This... coward." His steel boot dug into the curve of your leg.
The air whipped through your hair and you plummeted to the ground. Sharp pain radiated through your knee caps that split, bleeding on the cobble stone. Turning your head back, Farkas' calloused hand cupped your cheek, tilting her face back to his worry creased, painted eyes.
"She is no coward, Skjor. She needn't be in the inner circle to be a companion!" Aela became a physical barrier between you and the superior you often clashed with.
"That disrespectful welp will never be a companion."
That was the last you heard of the argument when Vilkas caught your wrist in a bruising grip, digging into the flesh and tearing you from his twins arms and into the mead hall. He pushed you forward. The thick carpets wrapped around the souls of your boots and you tripped forward, catching your weight in a delicate move no brash warrior could pull off. It was always a topic of argument between you and your eldest brother that you chose to be a rogue over a warrior. But Aela comforted you, trained you in archery. She helped you through the long harrowing nights and sided with you during fights with the other Companions. Vilkas never understood you, and there you were beneath his fierce scrutinizing gaze, licked by the flames from the lit fire over your shoulder.
"Why do you test him, Y/N?" He threw out his arms, attempting to reign in his temper in the form of pacing the length of the great table back and forth.
With a defeated sigh, you pulled out a chair, sitting weakly to inspect your torn knees. He was silent as you wet a cloth and dabbed away the blood that began to clot and scab.
"Answer me!" He rose his voice, surprising you. "How long will they house you if you keep this up?"
The door clicked behind you and Aela ran a hand through her red hair, careful of the braid. Anxiety and frustration were written across her features but she ignored your brother, stepping closer to your aching form.
"You overstepped today. More so than usual, I can't protect you if you continue down this path. He could kill you, he could disown you-"
A tonkard flew through the dim lighting, splattering wine across the wall. The tapestry clattered to the ground in the silence but all attention was on your brother's broad shoulders as he left the room. His footfalls echoed and the sound of the door slamming against the frame made your shoulders jolt against better judgement.
Aela pressed her fingertips to her eyes and knelt before you. Leaning forward on your elbows, you rested your forehead on hers and entwined your fingers through strands of her soft, shimmering hair.
"Why do you do this?" She whispered.
"I don't want to be a beast."
Your fingertips brushed back along her jaw, thumb running along her bottom lip and she covered your hand with her warm palm before tearing away hesitantly. She rested the heels of her palms on the waxed table, leaning toward the hot flames. The heat seemed smothering in the silent tension and neither of you could face eachother but you knew what was coming. It was always coming.
"Is that what you think I am, Y/N? A beast?" Aela steeled her voice with a strength she always kept stored away beneath the surface.
"Don't start this again." You sighed and rose to your feet with a slight limp. "I may be younger, but I'm not ignorant. Don't speak to me as though I am."
"You should leave." She whispered.
"I'm working on it." You grumbled back but a simple 'no' from her and you couldn't move. Your world tipped upside down, everything that was known seemed lost and beyond reach with a simple sentence.
"Leave Jorrvaskr." She was emotionless, impossible to read.
"I'll see you tonight for supper." There was a heavy weight in the finality of your tone as you forced the door open with your aching shoulder. You had to get away from this maddening place, these maddening people. Clear your head.
There was a glimpse of Farkas' frame as you descended the steps from the Cloud District and into the babbling, endless commotion of the city and boring lives of the common folk that lived there. You wondered far too often what the people of Whiterun would think, knowing their protectors are dark, blood driven animals. But you could never do that to her.
You'd played that moment over in your head, a painful, heart-breaking mantra. Words you'd hoped you would never hear. Though a few hours of drinks in the Bannered Mare and the scrapes of your knees and bruised pride seeped away off of your skin. But you swore, you swore to Ysgrammor himself that if Mikael played Ragnar the Red one more time-
"This is the first song I ever learned." He smiled toothily at you when you turned over your shoulder, more irritated than reason warranted.
It was a waiting game, and divines did you wait with baited breath for his next few words. They would surely be his undoing, and you were more than happy- honored even- to deliver him to the gods. He ignored the glare, relished in it perhaps and his sing song tone grated in your troubled, already raging, drunken mind.
"There once was a he-" Surprise flashed over his wide, frightened eyes when you leapt from your stool, successfully throwing him over the carved log bench. He sputtered up at you when you pulled the lute from his clenched, white knuckles.
"Heros are over rated." A large, meaty hand wrapped lightly around your forearm and pulled you away, knocking all of your weight off your feet.
"Put me down, Ulfberth..." You complained as he lifted you onto his shoulder. The crisp night air stung your cheeks when the taverns warmth left. The nord carried you with ease up the stone pathway despite your protests.
"Foolish girl." He muttered, though it came without malice. "That's no way for a Companion to behave."
"Haven't you heard?" You rasped, his harsh shoulder pressed into your ribs, lessening your air but you stayed where you were placed and let your arms sway beneath you. It wasn't worth fighting him off. "I'm not a Companion."
He tossed you down into the stream that was lightly flowing down from Dragons Reach. A loud gasp and you were flailing up from the splashing water, sobered from the cold. He stood in the shadow of the shrine of Talos, chuckling at your discomfort shaking the water droplets from your furs.
"Go back to your wife." You muttered and swatted his hand away when he reached to mess your damp hair. "Thank you, for taking me home."
"Call it what you will." He grinned in the darkness but didn't leave until you started up the steep stairs to the Mead Hall.
Only steps from the painted doors and Aela spoke behind you from her spot leaning against the wall.
"Where have you been, Y/N?"
"I did as you said. I left."
She closed her mouth on her next comment and stepped away without another word. The frustration seeped back into your body and you prepared for the harassment that awaited you beyond the doors. Warmth washed over your wet limbs when the door cracked open and brought life back to your cold body. But the music and laughter and chattering died down with each step you took towards the Companion quarters. Vilkas cut you off at the stairs.
"You must listen."
"I'm done, Vilkas." Your voice was soft and it was apparent he had expected you to yell. "I won't continue to fight the same battle with you, with Skjor."
"You've been drinking. Today we've delivered a blow to the Silverhands! Celebrate." He brushed your words off, pushing your shoulder in a light hearted way. It was at that moment, when his forced smile faltered, you knew he realized he lost you.
Skjor met your eyes from across the tables before be glanced towards Aela, sulking to grab her bow.
"I'm done, Vilkas."

Pairing: Carol Danvers x Female!Reader
Word Count: ~2.4k

x
Maria knows she has to do this with her best friend, so she calls her parents over to take care of her daughter. Maria tries to come up with an excuse as to why she's asking this, and you and Carol are off to the side with Monica.
"Your Mom's lucky. When they were handing out kids, they gave her the toughest one. Lieutenant Trouble," Carol smiles.
"You remembered!"
Carol had a whole life here without you, and seeing her with her other family gives you joy, but it also brings you pain when you think of how she was taken and the fact that she was taken in the first place.
"Is that mine?" Carol asks, noticing the jacket sitting on Monica's lap. The little girl starts to hand it over, but your girlfriend protests. "Oh, no. You hang onto it until I come back. There is something that I need your help with. I can't wear these Kree colors anymore, and since you're obviously the only person around here with any sense of style, why don't you give me a makeover?"
Carol stands and presses a few buttons on her wrist device that changes the colors of her outfit. Monica reaches over to try and goes through possible combinations such as bright red and grey stripes, orange, blue and yellow, black with neon stripes, and white with green stripes. None of them are the one until Carol sees the outfit Monica is wearing.
Red, blue, and gold.
"Well, since we're on the same team, why not those colors?"
Monica messes with the device once more, and Carol's suit changes to red and blue with a gold star on the front. This is it. This is the suit and colors that best suit her. She kind of reminds you of Steve when he got his suit, but you push back those painful memories of your best friend.
"How do I look?"
"Fresh," Monica smiles.
"We need to get going. Yon-Rogg will be here soon," you say.
Carol and Monica say their final goodbyes before everyone boards the big aircraft. Talos' science guy stays behind to pretend to be Carol to stall Yon-Rogg for however long. He knows he's going to die when he figures it out, but he's willing to risk his life if it means Talos gets home safe.
Since you're such a terrible pilot, Maria and Carol are at the front while you, Fury, Talos, and Goose are in the back. Fury is petting and comforting the animal while Talos stares at him with horror in his eyes.
"You know, you really shouldn't have that thing on your lap."
"Our little alliance with you is tenuous at best. As long as she continues to freak you out," Fury picks up the cat and shoves her in Talos' face, and the Skrull jerks back in fear, "like that, I'm gonna keep giving her all the love and hugs she needs, right?"
"Can I ask you two something?" Maria asks the two shapeshifters on board. "Do you just turn into anything you want?"
"I have to see it first."
"Those are my rules as well."
"Can you all do it?"
"Physiologically, yeah, but it takes practice and dare I say it, talent to do it well."
"Maria, I wasn't born like this. I was given a serum that gave me these powers, so there is only one of me."
"Can you turn into a cat?" Fury asks Talos.
"What's a cat?"
"That's a cat," you point to Goose.
"That's not a cat."
"What about a filing cabinet?" Maria asks.
"Why would I turn into a filing cabinet?"
"I don't know about the Skrulls, but I can only turn into living creatures no matter how small or the kind of species. If it's alive, I can turn into them."
"What else can you do?"
"Well, apart from shapeshifting, I am able to control the four main elements. Whatever you want to call it, I can do a lot of pretty awesome stuff."
"A venus fly trap!" Fury exclaims, still on the topic of shifting into things. "I'll give you $50 right now if you turn into a Venus fly trap."
"Switching engines from Scramjet to fusion. Buckle up, folks," Carol advises.
Everyone buckles up in case something goes wrong, and Carol lurches forward at high speeds. Due to the severe altitude, everyone is pushed back into their seats. The plane jerks like how a commercial airplane would.
"Is this normal? Like space turbulence?" Fury asks.
"Pretty much," Carol answers.
Talos grabs Fury's attention and shakes his head to say that this isn't normal. The plane continues to fly upward, and as soon as the plane reaches just outside Earth's atmosphere, the plane stops producing the flames needed in order to fly. Everything inside the plane starts floating due to the lack of gravity. Yours, Carol's, and Maria's hair float along with a few pens that weren't locked down. If you hadn't buckled in when you did, you too, would be floating in mid-air. Similarly, Goose is floating upside down until Fury extends his arm, which Goose eagerly grabs onto. Then, Maria flicks a switch and gravity suddenly turns on inside the plane.
"Locking in the coordinate grid," Carol announces.
However, the only thing in front of you is an empty pad of space. Maybe the coordinates are wrong or maybe the lab moved because it's not here anymore.
"Where is it?"
"It's here. It's gotta be here," Talos panics.
"Is it in front of all that nothing or behind it?" Fury asks sarcastically.
There has to be some reason why the coordinates led you to this empty space. Carol presses some buttons on her wrist device, and the process of decloaking begins. If this is where the coordinates are, and there is nothing here, then it must be invisible.
"Decloaking activated," the computer chirps.
Suddenly, a bright light appears from the empty space, and a massive laboratory becomes visible. The title "Mar-Vell's Laboratory, Kree Imperial Cruiser" appears on the screen inside the spaceship. Carol flies closer to the laboratory only to realize there's a loading dock for incoming ships. Once secured inside, you five leave the ship in curiosity.
"Are we alone?" you ask when you walk into the main room. Across the room is the Tesseract connected to a big machine, and you walk closer to it with tears in your eyes. This is what you've been waiting for for almost one hundred centuries. "I can't believe after all this time, it's been here. I thought this was in the ocean."
"Is that it? The core?" Maria asks.
"In her notes, she called it the Tesseract."
"This thing made me who I am today. This thing gave me my powers. This thing has been a pain in my ass this whole time!" you yell.
"It's okay," Carol whisper and puts her hand on your shoulder for comfort.
"No, it's not okay, Carol. This thing needs to be destroyed. All this thing is going to cause is pain."
Carol understands where you were coming from, but in order to understand its power, it needed to be saved. She grabs the cube and throws it in the air only to catch it like it was a fucking baseball and not a killing machine. This thing killed your best friend and boyfriend.
"Whoa. What was Lawson doing with all this kid stuff?" Maria asks and picks up a metal lunchbox.
Carol takes it from her, places the Tesseract inside, and locks it. You look around and take in your surroundings. There is something about this place, something off. On the glass table near the corner of the room is a mug with steaming hot tea in it.
You aren't alone.
"We're not alone."
Talos begins to sing loudly in his native tongue, and a swarm of scared Skrulls appears from their hiding places. An older one into the arms of Talos. If you had to assume, you'd guess that she is his wife, girlfriend, or sibling.
"Talos!"
"Soren," he sighs and hugs her tightly.
"He didn't come for the Tesseract." Soren calls forth a child, probably her own, and the child makes herself known willingly. Talos leans down to get a better look at the child with a huge smile on his face. "This is his family."
"We didn't know what to do. Mar-Vell warned us not to send a signal for any reason or the Kree would find us," Soren explains painfully.
"You did the right thing," Talos whispers.
When the excitement of the family reunion wears off, Soren notices the group Talos came in with. She grabs her child and holds her protectively, even when Talos calms her down.
"It's okay, it's okay. She's alright. She's a friend. They all are."
"I'm not gonna hurt you. We're not going to hurt you," Carol says.
"They led me to you."
"I'm so sorry. I didn't know."
"If only I had known," you sniffle.
"Carol, Y/N, this is war. My hands are filthy from it, too, but we're here now. You two found my family. This is just the beginning. There are thousands of us separated from each other. Scattered throughout the galaxy."
Another Skrull child approaches Carol once she knows it's safe and took her hand. She directs her over to a pinball machine in the corner. The child points to the high score in glowing lights and points to herself to say she won that many points.
"If I played the same pinball machine for six years I'd have some high scores too," Fury comments.
Suddenly, the doors to the lab open and Yon-Rogg and his team march through with determination. Upon seeing the Kree, Fury draws his gun but Minn-Erva already had hers directed at him. She gestures to him to drop it and he has no choice but to listen. Talos put his family behind him but Yon-Rogg couldn't care less about them right now. No, he's only interested in you and Carol. Seeing his bitch-ass face makes you see red, and your eyes shine red like fire as your hands glow the same color.
"Fraternizing with the enemy? Don't be stupid, Y/N, you'll kill everyone here," he points out. It's true. If you used your powers, you'll blow this entire ship to pieces. "What did you do to your uniform?"
"They got in her head. Just like we thought," Minn-Erica says.
"Oh, shut it, bitch," you growl.
"The Supreme Intelligence will set her straight," Korath says.
"You can see they're not soldiers, let them go. You can have me," Talos tries negotiating.
"And the core?"
"You lied to me," Carol glares.
"I made you a better version of yourself. What's given can be taken away," Yon-Rogg grins.
Carol tries as hard as she can to light up her fists, but they shortened out as if someone is controlling her powers from a distance. You notice something on her neck, something like a small device that is suppressing her powers. She doesn't know it's there or else she'd have taken it off a long time ago.
You turn to the other Kree and give them a malicious grin.
"I may not be able to use my fire power, but I have other ones."
The air around all of the Kree's heads begins to thin out while the air in the room stays the same. If they can't breathe, they can't fight. All of them gasp for air and fall to the ground, and you have to hold back your laughter. You're too busy focusing on them that you don't see Yon-Rogg sneak up behind you. He stabs something in the back of your neck, eliminating your powers for the moment.
"I've been waiting for this moment since I first saw you," he whispers.
He turns the device on and sends shockwaves down your body. With both you and Carol out of commission, the Kree can finally get what they came here to get.
When you wake up, you're not in Mar-Vell's ship anymore. No, you're in an all too familiar room with endless glossy floors and lights that descend from above. The man with jet-black hair stands in the middle of the room. Why does he look so familiar? When you think back to where you might know him, your head gets fuzzy and you get the worst headache ever.
Someone or something removed those memories from your head.
"There she is. I've got to say, I'm quite disappointed in you," the Supreme Intelligence says.
"There is no honor. The promise you made to me about honor and responsibilities is all a lie."
"Despite that, you performed well. You got us to the enemy. Thanks to you and jazz hands, those insidious shapeshifters will threaten our borders no more."
"I can't believe I ever thought the Kree would have the ability to change their ways. You're just as bad as Ronan. The Skrulls are just fighting for a home. You want to destroy them for what? Not submitting to your rules? Well, Carol and I won't do it."
You run at the man to attack him, but you go flying into the wall behind you with a flick of his wrist. You stick to the wall like glue so you're not going anywhere.
"It's cute how hard you try," he chuckles. "We needed you on this mission so you could lead us to the Tesseract. The power inside your veins wouldn't allow you to stay away. Plus, it is what you were looking for, yeah? You want to learn more about who you are and what Markus put into your body."
"How do you know about Markus?"
You slide through the sticky wall and come out on the other side where you can watch your memories play back in front of you.
"We know more than you think."
Each memory is of when Markus put you through each element trial. Through it all, the evil look on Markus' face never went away.
"You're no better than him," you turn to face the Supreme Intelligence.
"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn."
Okay, you're done with this shit. You need to escape or else he will keep you here for as long as he wants. You need to escape if you want to help the Skrulls win this war.
"Do you know what the difference between me and Carol is?" The fire within you heats up slowly, and your skin glows with the embers of a thousand fires. "You've been able to control her through the device you slapped on her neck, am I right? Well, news flash, bitch, you can't control me."
