i saw your tags on that post, can you tell me about the homestuck quadrants? i was hugely into homestuck like 10 years ago but i’ve forgotten almost everything. i want to remember the ancient ways

Matesprit ❤️ is easy, its just what humans see as romance and true love etc. One of the two reproductive quadrants, yadda yadda you get it.

Examples: - Morticia <3 Gomez - Ruby <3 Sapphire - Darcy <3 Elizabeth, with arguably some grey/black romance thru the story but thats what makes it so enduring

Moirails ♦️ is my personal favorite quadrant and is fairly straightforward, tho the canon definition is different from fanon. In fanon, its interpreted basically as best friends/queerplatonic, which, yeah, can and usually does happen with that proximity and thats why I love it, but in canon its more a power balance to prevent violence and death, typically with one figure reining back a more chaotic one. When applying to humans and other fandoms tho its better to lean toward the slightly fanon interpretation since Alternia's violent culture is so different from ours.

Examples: - Nepeta <> Equius - Aziraphale <> Crowley (obvi the situation is changing but lets leave this here) - Dean <> Castiel (obvi i'm team matesprit but canonically they belong here up til cas declares his love) - Joel <> Ellie (this is a strictly platonic quadrant dw) - Caleb <> Nott/Veth (I want to shake liam and sam so bad and explain that the relationship they were looking for was right here and they didnt have to awkwardly choose between romance and friendship)

Auspictice ♣️is the one everyone gets wrong and drives me the most insane. It's a tricky and very specific balancing dynamic thats hard to find, except maybe on the CW. Canonically, its a group of three people, two (left and right leaves) want to outright kill each other. This does not make them kismesis, I cannot stress that enough, kismesis don't want each other dead, but we'll get there in a sec. The third person is meant to prevent them from killing each other, being the mediator. Its rare for this dynamic to not be outright toxic, esp in human examples, but its a healthy option on Alternia to prevent unnecessary murder. I think this dynamic is meant to be temporary tho, even in that culture, as it weighs on the mediator a lot.

Examples: - Eridan <3< Sollux ^ Feferi, unfortunately unsuccessful showing how difficult and straining this relationship type is (also everyone who said eridan and sollux were kismesis owes me $5, I'll become a millionaire instantly) - Edward <3< Jacob ^ Bella - Pearl <3< Greg ^ Steven, a happy ending example of an auspictice (ignore the ptsd)

Kismesis ♠️is. man where do I begin. its so good. its such a fun dynamic, especially when you have a pairing that gets it just right. Kismesis is perfect enemies, arch-rivals that share a mutual respect and drive each other to improve themselves to better outwit their opponent. Its when a captain sees one of their ships on fire and smiles, knowing just who did it. Its tipping your opponents head up by the tip of a sword. Its the bad guy showing up at your doorstep because theres no one else they trust more than their greatest nemesis. Its the other reproductive quadrant because its just as deep and passionate as true love, and it can in fact switch between love and hate very easily and often.

Examples: - Quark <3< Odo (imo the BEST non-homestuck example) - Batman <3< Joker (friend hates when i say this but i'm right, esp with lego batman) - Xavier <3< Magneto - Light <3< L - God <3< Satan, why not lmao

I wish homestuck was seen as less cringe bc the quadrants are SOOO FUN to apply to ships and dynamics in other fandoms and contexts. At the same time, people get the quadrants wrong constantly, especially between kismesis and auspictice. And the quadrants aren't static, you don't have to lock a ship in just one forever! feelings change and very easily turn from black to red to black again, its all so complicated and fun to watch.

Sokka: A:tLA: Okayyyy so as someone who is Inuk she whole S/NWT meant so much to me as a kid and still means so much to me now but Sokka just hits on a different level because he’s the oldest sibling (as am I) and therefore charged with everyone else’s safety in one way or another. He also is the one who deals the killing blows bc the others can’t or won’t stomach it which I relate to hevily

2. Bolin: LoK: He reminds me of my husband what else can I say? They think he’s a pretty, strong, stupid, earthbender/ which to an extent- he is. But he’s just smart in different ways than others and genuinely has a heart of gold and just wants to give everyone endless love

3. River Song: Doctor who: we have the same hair so immediately yes. She also has one of the best and most heartbreaking arcs in cinema history and I will fight about it. She destroyed the universe to save her husband then said “I don’t do weddings” and honestly…I get it bc same

4. Castiel: Supernatural: MY SON DESERVED BETTER. He lost his home, his family, his faith, everything he had known for THOUSANDS of years because he fell in love with humanity Dean. He constantly tried his best and yes messed up but was always treated so harshly as if he didn’t have to LEARN how to have human morals and the only people he had to base off of was the boys who are in no way a good bar to measure that by

5. Amber: House of Anubis: oooh pretty ditzy blonde girl comic relief character- but she becomes one of the most fully fleshed out deep characters and ends up being the reason they solve most of the riddles and find the artifacts. She loves her shopping and texting but when the heat is up she always rises to the challenge and shows out. Queen of my heart

6. Flame Princess: Adventure Time: raised to be evil but falls in love and has to learn how not to harm people even though it 100% goes against her nature. And even after all that she is still treated like a villain by everyone but Finn basically. I have ASPD and I constantly feel like I also have to be something I’m not in order to not harm the people around me and the ones who let me be me are few and far between. She is me I am her

7. Sherlock: See above lol, he has ASPD (sociopathy) and so do I. Plus I’m studying to be a CSI. Seeing a character with my same illness shown in the real raw form and not like the “yeah they’re a sociopath but their character arc is learning how to be a good person!” Ew. They let him be cruel and clever and just authentically HIM. Of course he’s checked when necessary but ultimately no one ever tells him he needs to be fixed because of it bc they understand that part of him can’t be changed

8. House: kind if similar as above. I don’t super love the drugs but he takes no shit and dicks around because he knows he’s the best there is. Endless pranks, self destructive tendencies, smartest person you’ll ever meet, what more could you ask for? It’s also super awesome to watch a character/show that isn’t so focused on being “politically correct” that it forgets how to make good jokes.

9. Sejanus: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (book): People say Katniss is Lucy’s revenge but NO she’s Sejanus’ revenge, and so is Peeta. Sejanus was the one who hated the games, tried to actually help the tributes and districts and stop the games. He wanted revolution way back when Snow was a teenager and didn’t even live to see it. The only difference between him and Everlark is the fact that they had a whole rebellion ready to back them. He should have been alive to take the place of Coin/Snow and I stand by that.

10. J.B. Merlin: Bundle of Joy: this is so crazy niche if anyone knows it DM me immediately I’m begging you. An absolute icon this entire movie. The center of a comedy miscommunication trope. Has no idea what’s going on but refuses to let his son walk out on his baby (that’s not actually his but he thinks it is), immediately assumes the baby was named after him, then delivers the iconic line “I don’t care who the father is! I’M the grandfather” homie wanted a grandkid and didn’t care what he had to do to get one 😂 10/10 wholesome character

i need you. i watched goodbye stranger live and that is MY episode of television ever. it was soooo crazy at the time.

not the confession i don't like the confession actualyl like i mean theyre in LOVE but the confession itself is hard for me to watch it makes me cringe but okay. dean crying on the floor all night after the empty takes cas. yea.....ALL NIGHT. im insane.

the phone call when cas thinks dean is going to do the ma'lak box with michael thing and hes like DEAN ITS SO GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU and dean is like repression um okay good. and then they have their conversation. but then when they're about to end the call and dean is like 'and cas? it's good to hear your voice.' whew. and then i will count this concurrently in the same number cause its the same episode when theyre in the hospital and cas stops dean to talk and he s like so this is goodbye?? the look they share.....and then YOU TAUGHT ME THAT. no one talks about this episode but omg it makes me like. bonkers truly.

'and how is it that you lost dean, i thought the two of you were connected at the.....you know....everything' so basically the demons canonically all think dean and cas are fucking idk the first time i watched that my eyes bugged straight out of my head

i cant pick a fifth bc there are so many. THE VERY TOUCH OF YOU CORRUPTS. im gonna cure you of your human weakness the same way i cured mine by cutting it out. cas colette parallel and next youd kill the angel castiel now that i imagine would hurt something awful. the FUCKING purgatory prayer. the whole widower arc ugh. im most likely forgetting some really prominent moments bc its 12 seasons of destiel but this is just whats in my head rn.

also not necessarily a destiel moment but the car/diner scene in lily sunder has some regrets is. SOOOO fucking funny the ladies are FIGHTINGGGGG. its literally hilarious i could watch it every day. poor sam.

Vol. CX

It was a love story from the very beginning.

The Destiel Reunion after the Possession

(14x03)

Hi there! Another volume from season 14, this time this meta will be Dean centric because season 14 was plenty Dean centric. And episode 3 showed us the demage Michael left on Dean. It also talked about the Destiel reunion after the Possession.

As I said in my previous volume, season 14 is the one I started writing meta, so this will be a resume of it and some new addition in retrospective.

The after Possession damage

I remember when I saw Dean in this episode 'The Scar's it was as if I was looking a semiology book of Psychiatry.

First of all because Dean was acting erratic, anxious, always in alert.

"I've never seen Dean in so bad shape. The anxiety was evidently exposed, and the partial lost of memories and the flahsbacks (...) he's weak, as Kaia noticed, mentally weak... "

I wrote this in one of my metas, and as I said in the previous volume, we will have here another reading of Dean's thoughts. This time by Kaia.

(Remember this is the episode in which Dean asks willingly to Castiel to get inside his head. Subtextually, to Dean, Castiel is the only one he allows to go deep inside his thoughts. It's based in trust and love.)

But let's check AU!Kaia and Dean dialogue:

Kaia: You’re no different from him. Threats, violence anything to get what you want.

Dean: I am nothing like him.

Kaia is reading Dean's fears here. Treating him like an angry killer. All his toxicity is exposed at Kaia's reading.

Kaia: Yeah you are: you always have been!

(...)

Sam: Wait a second: you’re a dreamwalker, too? Your powers, they connected you.

Kaia: Our whole lives, what she saw, I saw. I know where it comes from your anger, your impatience: it's fear. You’re scared and you’re weak

The fact that this while scene was linked to the scene in which Jack and CAS discovered how to save a young girl from a spell. Graphically releasing her by breaking an amulet, is foreshadowing Dean self release from his second Possession. Kaia saying 'what she saw I saw' is practically giving a clue about Michael spying them through Dean's eyes.

So anxiety and depression cohabitate in Dean after Possession.

"Did you see how Dean was like running all the time? He didn't listen to Sam or Jody, he needed to do things quickly. Running here, there, it doesn't matter, bc he was running from himself, and to find and kill Michael was just an excuse."

That was the image of Dean I got from this episode. Then, this dialogue in the car whit Sam in which he describes how it was to be possesed.

He mentions "drowning" that was his desperate battle to conquer his own thoughts and own body. We'll have a lot of recallings to this word throughout the season 14, a lot of monsters representing AU!Michael and his own toxicity trying to drowning him.

Purity and Purge

Before jumping into my idea of what it meant that cold reunion (cold because it didn't have a hug) I wanna talk a little more about how Michael brought the Purgatory into season 14 as a prelude to episode 15x09, but mostly, as a symbolic representation of what being posseses meant to Dean too.

"I was expecting Michael to be the new Purgatory exposure in this season, an opportunity for Dean to bring back the purity from his heart, as he did in Purgatory, the place where he realized he was in love of his best friend.. (sighing)."

This definitely happened and had his conclusion in season 15 with 15x09.

But, the purity of the heart Dean will expose throughout this season wasn't the purity Michael wanted to bring to Earth.

"We could confuse purity with basic Instincts when we talk about monsters. Bc basic Instincts are pure, indeed, there's no contamination in what the monsters wants: hunt, eat, survive. Like animals."

This is directly related to the idea of PURGE Michael wanted for the world. And it also was showed in Dean's behavior in the woods when he was searching for Michael. Basics instincts an animal would use to find his prey. Dean was in basic hunter mode.

The Destiel Reunion

The Destieo reunion had a bittersweet taste.

First of all, when Castiel arrived to the scene, a dramatic music started to play. This is usually used to point out at a romantic couple playing the scene. And because it was specifically played when Castiel arrived and Dean and him exchanged weird looks, it's obvious it was there to show the audience HELLO, THIS IS A REUNION OF LOVERS.

Until now, everything was sweet, Dean is really happy to see Castiel. He looks as if he was breathing for the first time. His face is showing relief and his heart eyesbfor the angel are out of control. 'There you are. The love of my life.'

And Cas, well, remember when I said he was more emotional?

He smiles at him. Like... Very happy but then... Dean's face turned into... Recrimination.

Cas: I’m sorry. I wanted to be there, but we feared that Michael would sense my presence.

Dean: Sam told me. Ain’t no thing.

Dean is mad at Cas, because Castiel didn't go to rescue him. Even knowing it could be bad for the plan, deep inside , Dean wanted to see CAS in that barn. That's why their looks. Castiel csn see this perfectly. He even explains this to him. I didn't want to see this but then in episode 14x04 (the next meta) I will explain why Dean was feeling sad, one of the causes was he was feeling Castiel didn't pay attention to him. The 'jealousy' starts to burn (yes, Dean was kind of jealouse of Jack because Castiel spends now more time with him) and this will end up with their break up at the end of the season when Jack will be the one killing Mary accidentally.

Dean being mad with Cas could be the cause of why we didn't have a hug. But also, because Dean felt dirty and ashamed, his mind had been ripped by Michael. Maybe he felt too dirt to go Cas a hug.

Now... Let's jump to the sexual innuendo scene...

There's a huge parallel between this episode and 4x01 in which Dean realized he had a hand print on his left shoulder. Here, Dean noticed the scar in his right shoulder and uncovered in the same way he did in 4x01. I called this Michael's mark vs Destiel mark. And is a blatant representation of why Michael couldn't possesed Dean's vessel completely. And mostly because the scar looked like two phalanxes. As if it was trying to complete a handprint. But he couldn't, because Dean is already taken by Castiel. If this is not romantic trope, I don't know how to call it.

And now... Dean asking Castiel to get inside his head, as an act of trust, marking a foreshadow for 14x10, when Castiel and Sam will enter in his mind.

Dean: Cas, c’mon hit me.

But this will end up being a scene with sexual innuendo, mostly because Misha and Jensen acting choices...

Dean's face if one of whom just had the orgasm of his life. His face after realize the sensation that that intrusion by Castiel had made him feel is showing he is aware they just had had an experience. It was OBVIOUSLY very exciting. He even tries to compose himself a little, feeling ashamed, but collecting his hands together towards his own chest. His left eyelid drops a little, just after experienced a very amount of... well... Sensations. It looks as if Dean ejaculated after having great sex with his angel.

This was fanservice, thank you Lord Berens.

To Conclude:

This episode showed us a very bittersweet Destieo reunion. I infer it was because Dean was mad at CAS for not being in the barn to rescue him.

It also had a Destiel sex scene, their first time... 🤣

But it spoke too about the amount of psychiatric damage AUMichsel left on Dean.

what's your all-time favourite ship?

okay so since all the questions are about my own writing I’m going to narrow this down to the most fun ship to write about, for my own sanity. the answer to that would be rhys/zer0 of borderlands fame just by sheer amount of fics written. what can I say, against my best interests I do love a genderless nonhuman character and rhys is an idiot, so both are fun to write

Yes, I always reply to comments! Mostly because I love a chance to talk about my own work, but I feel like people are more likely to comment on older fics if they can see that the author is still actively responding to comments.

fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

okay I LOVE writing angsty endings it must be said. Ignoring the shitty edgy sherlock fic I wrote when I was a tween that I don’t want to be reminded of, my angstiest endings are probably my two danganronpa fics, Treading Water and Promise Me a Place, where I un-kill my favourite character two different times just so he can live to be sadder about his other half. I have no excuses for my behaviour ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

fic you've written with the happiest ending?

I wrote a destiel fixit after the finale aired, you will still be here tomorrow (but your dreams may not), and it ends with castiel resurrection and bunker family reunion so that probably qualifies as my most cheesy happy ending. It’s what we all deserved after that shit show

do you write crossovers?

I haven’t yet and while I’m not strictly opposed, it’s not something I’m usually interested in! I try to keep things pretty canon compliant with my only AU fics hinging on one decision made differently, so big crossovers usually aren’t in the cards

have you ever received hate on a fic?

not really, thank god. If people hate me they have the good sense to do it behind my back

do you write smut? if so what kind?

no, I do not. Half the reason is that I’m too ace with no concept of what’s sexy and the other half is that some of my tumblr mutuals are people I know IRL and it’s bad enough already to have my ao3 linked, I’m not posting porn haha

have you ever had a fic stolen?

I’ve never had a fic lifted wholesale and posted to another site (afaik) but I have a grudge against someone who basically posted the same fic as me a few days after I did (it was a quick oneshot) and like... it’s technically different but it has the same premise, general structure, and a few bits of dialogue and it STILL pisses me off but not enough to do anything about it bc it could be a coincidence : /

have you ever had a fic translated?

yes! I had a couple of my old sherlock fics translated to chinese! My deepest apologies to chinese readers that that is your only exposure to me

have you ever co-written a fic before?

no, I haven’t had the pleasure yet!

what’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

back before I realized that, personally, I need to write a fic in its entirety first before posting it bc I get sidetracked easily, I had an ongoing 11th Doctor/River story that ended up abandoned on ff.net (yeah, vintage). I don’t care enough to finish it, but it’s my only WIP that people can see online and it’s my great shame lol

what are your writing strengths?

Oh, dialogue definitely. My fics are so dialogue-heavy I might as well accept my fate and write scripts lol

what are your writing weaknesses?

I am terrible with scene transitions. I have no concept of when a scene has gone on too long and end up in the trap of writing everything in real time if I’m not careful, which can drag a lot

what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I’m not opposed to it, though I haven’t had an occasion to do it myself, I don’t think. My Hot Take™ is that people need to be better about making fic with other languages more accessible bc I HATE scrolling down to the bottom for translation footnotes while I’m reading and losing my place. Obviously exclusion is a valid artistic choice sometimes but if you want people to know what you’re saying PLEASE make use of hyperlinks to jump between translated text, footnotes, and back, or just put the a translation in the body.

honestly my danganronpa fic Promise Me a Place is some of the best work it’s a shame the fandom has a reputation for being cringe haha I’m really proud of the melancholy tone of this one and I think I managed to be really angsty without feeling pointlessly edgy. It’s the fic of mine I’ve re-read the most, like it doesn’t feel like something I wrote anymore and I sometimes just pull it up to read for fun (or, well, not FUN exactly it’s too depressing for that)

also no one reads my samurai flamenco fic bc the fandom is dead, so I feel the need to plug my fic from this year’s gift exchange, In The Kind of World Where We Belong, bc I’m super proud of that one as well

hi jo !!! Pastels, Peaches, and Pain is one of those sambucky wips i have mostly fully fleshed out in my head because of one (1) extreme moment of clarity after a rogue ‘what if’ tangent thought but havent written anything of yet out of restraint / knowing i need to finish at least one of my current sambucky wips before i start it or none of them will get done

this was the rogue tangent thought: “what if Sam is haunted by Figaro’s ghost and has been since he was a kid?”. i’ve changed the ghost cat to not be Figaro but that’s the premise !

i refer to the fic as the cat fic ‘cause the whole plot is based around sam’s ghost cat companion insisting he adopts nat’s cat Liho after endgame and then Figaro later and then [insert redacted because plot spoilers but just know it relates to Alpine]. no im not projecting my feelings about cats idk what youre talking about

here’s some note snippets just for you:

the cat, inexplicably, takes a liking to bucky, which is really annoying bc sam doesnt know how to explain to him that all the oddly soft gusts of wind are actually sam's dead cat insisting on getting pats

bucky getting shade thrown at him by said ghost cat during all of tfatws + them making up (and not out. yet)

starts when sam's a kid & follows him as he grows up w/ a ghost kitty as a companion only he can see & interact with + angst with an undertone of comedy + getting together

he whispers to ghost kitty, who simply mmrrs happily

for the among us first draft thing, what basically happened is i saw this tweet and this video and my brain latched onto these dynamics so hard i had to write about them.

here’s a sketch of my two main imposters, Black (left) and Cyan (right):

The thing having Cyan pause and stare out at the asteroid field is how the colors stretch to family. When they and Black came aboard, they had thought every crewmember was an adult working on the planet-change project. That the patch of off-white with a black something-pattern-or-shape signified status. In a way, Cyan supposes it does, but just not the way they expected. They had expected it to show what rank an individual held within the hierarchy of the crew, from deckhand to division leader to captain, not to show that you're family of the crew and not actually part of the crew itself.

There are innocents on this ship. Children. It was not something any of them had anticipated, and not something Cyan had been prepared to deal with. They and Black boarded this horrible place to eradicate a threat, believing each and single one of the humans were accomplishes and dedicated to the goal of destroying Cyan and Black's species, and their planet. But, now?

marvel meets warframe meets a bunch of tumblr posts... doesn’t have a wip title or seperate document for itself yet cause it’s been stuck in my ‘story ideas’ document since its creation. so ‘marvel meets warframe meets a bunch of tumblr posts’ is literally just me describing the vibe of an original world gjkerfkds

the world came to be for two reasons. firstly, i want to do make take on a superhero universe because the plot and complete lack of communication in both the dcu and mcu piss me the fuck off. secondly, needed a place to dump ocs with elaborate backstories or fantasy / sci-fi abilities that dont fit into any of my existing worlds

which sounds super competent but trust me, it isn’t. it didn’t gain any solidity at all until i decided to do a personal ‘how different can i make spn castiel look & still retain the same vibe?’ challenge. i have my own cas now

however, the reason i said ‘marvel meets...’ is because i’ve snagged a couple of different things from the mcu, most notably: enemies to reluctant coworkers to lovers, yes our best friend have the same name. no they’re not the same person, secret evil org is controlling the government, and the assassin that tried to kill you several times is now your best friend

warframe was added to the world because i got attached to my Volt build, gave them a name, and have some headcanons idk what to do with because i refuse to interact with that fandom. also because the friend i made through discussing warframe lore + plot dicked me over so it feels Bad to create for

the glue to this whole mess is that one “in every friend group there’s a mean bisexual, an even meaner lesbian, a she/they, a he/they, a himbo, an astrology bitch, a short king, and a token straight” tumblr post. my main group of superheroes ala the avengers consist of these people. the token straight is the only one i havent figured out who is yet

ever since i figured that out ive been throwing story / character ideas and weirdly specific aesthetics from popular tumblr posts into this world’s notes. here’s some examples:

that trope where someone’s really nice and acts super well-adjusted to society but then they do something super whack and dangerous and you realize ‘oh they’re secretly a little bit insane, actually’

tommy joe ratliff → he was the bass player for adam lambert during his glamnation era (think of songs like for your entertainment and if i had you) idk why exactly i liked him so much but i just did.... however i searched him up again quite recently and found out he’s one of those republicans that says the dumbest shit on twitter so Big Yikes

harry styles → “baby you light up my world like nobody else, the way that you flip your hair gets me overwhelmed, and when you smile at the ground it ain’t hard to tell...” and BOOM 13-year-old me was sold for well over two years

louis tomlinson → basically i liked harry most until around 2013 when for some reason i started to like him a little less, and i got more focused on louis tomlinson, and although i didn’t like one direction anymore louis tomlinson always had a special place in my heart

harries twins → the harries twins (jack & finn) are basically the reason i started spending a lot of time on youtube, they were funny and pretty and they just had good videos in general, so for almost two years i’d watch their content regularly

jc caylen → surprise! another youtuber! jc caylen was part of o2l (our2ndlife) a youtube collaboration channel on which each of the 6 members posted videos on a certain day in the week (mondays with connor, tuesdays with ricky, wednesdays with sam, thursdays with jc, fridays with trevi (my 2nd favorite member bc she participated on the x factor), saturdays with ricardo, and then they had surprise sundays every week) and i remember how much joy jc & the others always brought me with their silly videos

misha collins → up next, you might know him as the gay angel that was sent to superhell after confessing his love to the homophobic hunter on supernatural, it’s misha collins! basically misha was a huge source of comfort for me, and i even went around calling myself emmisha for almost two full years (cringe)

henrik holm → he played even bech naesheim in skam and my crush on him reached that level of ridiculousness where i actually tried my hand at learning norwegian (i can only remember how to introduce myself and some curse words i would make a great first impression on him)

kim namjoon → oh man i remember thinking namjoon was cute and a very good leader and then BAM he dressed like THAT at the 2016 mma’s and i fell in love. hard

just a rushed, not proofread meta inspired by a rewatch of the escalation of events at the end of s14

warnings! spoilers for season 14! and idk this is a mess and basic and i’m actually kinda alsjdlaksdj to post it lol rip

this has probably already been mentioned but, isn’t it interesting that the difference in dean’s expression of grief between castiel’s death and mary’s death was different? when cas died, the dude fell apart not in the sense of keeping it in but more in the sense that he was struggling to deal with emotions he was experiencing? and when mary died, he’s the first to hold his emotions out, have the funeral and the gathering and take the time to deal with the emotions he’s deal with? this difference is valid because a control was present both times: jack. in both scenarios, dean regarded jack as the cause and in both scenarios dean reacted towards jack with the same anger (arguably the same level of “being blinded by anger”).

interesting, eh?

so what’s the classification of the difference? yes, mary has been dead before, but this is a form of reaction that has been seen before with more characters.

so what’s the cause of the difference? first things first, seeing that there is a difference means that dean’s feelings towards cas and mary are not the same. seeing that dean’s reaction towards mary’s death has been similar to other deaths shows that the difference isn’t one that separates cas from family exactly.

with cas’ death, dean lost a part of himself. with mary’s death, dean lost a person in his life.

with the (and i’m going to quote gotg2) “unspoken thing” between cas and dean, cas’ presence is more or less an anchor for whatever’s dean’s “different” feelings towards him is. knowing that cas is alive and well gives dean something to hold on as he shuffles through his own emotions. whatever it is that is holding dean back is only strong when he knows he can see cas and be with him in the near future. with castiel death or risking death, we see dean sort of struggle with expressing whatever it is that is misplacing his emotions (i’ll insert examples later if i remember, this is v rushed and i’m just winging it before i have to leave).

with mary, dean understood his feelings towards her. she was his mom. she was his family. she was someone he knows he can look up to and trust. in fact, with her presence at this age of his, dean more or less held her at two positions in his life: as his mother and as his companion in terms of being a hunter (lol that’s not worded right). either way, he understood how he felt about her and when she died, as much as it was to his dismay, he knew what her absence meant to him and knew what the emotions were that he was feeling. yes, he closed himself off, but when he did, he didn’t do it out of confusion and some form of frustrated desperation. he did it out of acknowledgement of the emotions, knowing that, according to him, these were emotions he needed to properly deal with in private. i mean bobby literally said “bein’ teary in public’s not my style” in the context of relating to dean. so what did he do? he "nah, i need to get outta here”’d and processed the emotions/cried in private.

my friends, just as everyone is saying, the narrative is all there! differences have been set and it’s just a matter at how these differences are looked at. before anyone tries to tell me that dean dislikes castiel or anything of that sort lol, dean’s already stated his liking and care for the angel. this will contradict me a bit, but, our dean winchester understands a part of his emotions for cas. he knows that, regardless of how confusing it is, that cas is family to him. what he doesn’t understand is why there’s a lot more behind that simply emotion. with mary it’s a parental familial love and care (wow adjectives). with cas? well, what’s the other type of familial love that’s not parental (lmfao hint hint it’s not friendly lol)

just a note: i’m not banking or raising my expectations for a destiel reveal lol. the cw is “progressive” but idk man. it’s better to be cautious with one’s emotions and to put oneself in a place where disappoint is hard to achieve (lol this is my opinion). me writing this post is just to put it out there that, regardless of the ending of season 15, the destiel narrative has still been in development in the more recent seasons and that, if anything other signs are to come in the final season, it’s not a stretch or a surprise bc the signs pointed towards them all along. if nothing happens, well, no surprise there either bc at least these things (not a good word but meh) exist.

Cas, do you remember after we put Lucifer in the Cage? After Sam jumped in the Pit, you popped into my car. You remember what you said? You said that I "got what I asked for. No paradise, no Hell. Just more of the same." That wasn't what I wanted at all. I wanted my brother safe, and I wanted you.

I still do, and I'll never stop. But, that's not an option. So, instead, I'll do what I can to protect you.

Dean can't say goodbye to Cas. He's gotta tell him how he feels, though, so he writes Cas a letter.

I’m as unswervingly indifferent to SPN as it can be (it doesn’t remotely engage me primarily because neither of the main characters strikes me as well rounded enough to be invested in his story) but on objective level, both actors are only moderately skilled & decidedly mediocre. It’s not even about Drew’s external looks making him clearly superior, it’s the fact that his performance is haunting in terms of how realistic his displays of Chris’ fear, anger, devastation or pain were. In Chris-Crossed the shift between the defiant expression he attempts to maintain after Bianca drags him back to dark future to face Wyatt vs him instantly starting to tear up upon seeing Wyatt is still an evil tyrant & knowing his mission of saving him has been sabotaged and he likely dies at Wyatt’s hands before he can complete it (bc Chris would never enable his brother’s reign of terror) was masterful. Same for the way Drew portrayed Chris’ determination to remain a decent & compassionate person even in the most drastic circumstances, i.e when Chris was exceptionally friendly with Clarence when he thought the latter was a cleaner (going as far as to converse with Clarence when Chris was already getting physically weak due to mixture of exhaustion & actually starting to fade from existence). And how prominently his body language & voice changed when Chris had learned Clarence was actually an Angel of Death & a yet another person in the position of power over him who came there to assert said power & take Chris away before his time. Which is when Chris becomes as defiant as he was when faced with Bianca- when she temporarily relapsed back into her old ways - and Wyatt as Chris doesn’t tolerate power abuse & stands tall even when he’s entirely powerless against his aggressors. Notably in the end of the episode when Clarence visits Chris again the latter doesn’t display any hostility towards the aforementioned. His first reaction is FEAR bc Chris finds it hard to believe someone has come to wish him well instead of trying to hurt him or tell him again how his destiny is to die/disappear on behalf of saving Wyatt & everyone. He then genuinely thanks Clarence & comes back to treating him like before. This versatile & nuanced acting made Drew’s performance outstanding. What originally put me off where Supernatural is concerned was the lack of variety when it comes to the actors bringing their characters’ emotions to screen. The main duo hardly has more than four basic facial expressions to convey different feelings.

1) Yes, agreed, and it’s unfair that Drew is such an underrated actor.

2) I can already tell I’m gonna get in trouble with the SPN fandom for posting this (even though it’s not going in any of the tags) bc trust me, they’d find it somehow.

and I’m just saying, Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester) & Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester) are still far better actors than Misha Collins (Castiel; aka the one-off character Eric who asked Phoebe if she was an angel)

Hello my dear! How have you been? I'm here with another volume from this Chronicles.

This time I want to talk about the truth as a recurrent topic in the first half of this season.

I'm gonna mix some bi Dean concept too, this will be mostly a Dean centric meta.

O want to give thanks to my friend @agusvedder , she couldn't make me the gifs for this meta but we discussed a lot about this topic. Thank you girl!

Let's start...

Saying goodbye to Lisa and Ben

Ok, I will collect here an amount of observations I made in several chapters in which we can see Dean breaking up with Lisa and Ben as his family.

In episode 6x06 Live Free or Twihard , calling back to 6x02, we had Dean feeling himself a monster and becoming one.

At the beginning of the episode, the Winchester brothers went to investigate to a house, a girl's room, vampires fan. Dean found a book and this is what he reads...

DEAN. Look at this. He's WATCHING her sleep. How is that not rape-y?

This is very significant because when Dean is turning into a vampire, he decided to go visit Lisa and Ben to say goodbye... So when he arrives, he just stays there by Lisa's bed watching her sleep. As a real monster. After this we all recall he pushed Ben violently and ran away. This was the beginning of the end.

In episode 6x06 "You can't handle the truth" written by Sera Gamble, even when it was a very Wincest episode, it had a very interesting topic about ASKING THE TRUTH YOU CAN'T EFFORT.

And related with Lisa here, he called her, and because he had asked for the truth, he receives the truth from her. A very hard one. She snapped at him this...

LISA: You've got so much buried in there, and you push it down, and you push it down. Do you honestly think that you can go through life like that and not freak out? Just, what, drink half a fifth a night and you're good?

DEAN: You knew what you signed up for.

Dean is excusing himself with her, she knew, he's like this. He won't change. Hunting is his life.

LISA: Yeah. But I didn't expect Sam to come back. And I'm glad he's okay. I am. But the minute he walked through that door, I knew. It was over. You two have the most unhealthy, tangled-up, crazy thing I've ever seen. And as long as he's in your life, you're never gonna be happy.That came out so much harsher than I meant.

Here, we have the pathologic codependency between them, but as it was written, and here's my opinion, is screaming Wincest all over, we know Sera was a fervent fan of the boys, and this doesn't surprises me. Lisa is being very hard and honest with Dean. Things are not Al right between them.

DEAN: It's not your fault.

LISA: I'm not saying don't be close to Sam. I'm close to my sister. But if she got killed, I wouldn't bring her back from the dead!

DEAN: Okay, Lis... I'm not gonna lie. Okay, me and Sam, we... we've got issues. No doubt. But you and Ben --

Here is Dean saying "Everything you had just said is truth", so more Wincest for the bag.

LISA: Me and Ben can't be in this with you. I'm sorry.

And this was the end for sure.

In this same episode, we had this scene...

The woman is dressed in lavanda color, si, basically, is a Lisa's mirror here,asking for a lot of attention and Dean is giving her that not very hopeful answer... So yeah, Dean had decided which life he wants for him. Maybe, and as I said before, he doesn't feel he deserves a good life, or maybe because he feels like a dangerous monster that can destroy good things.

Now... Let's jump to 6x07 "Family Matters"...

There's a singular quote by the Alpha Vampire:

DEAN: I didn't realize we were on a first-name basis.

ALPHA VAMPIRE: Of course we are. After all, you were my child... for a time. Dean, tell me... did you enjoy it?

Ok, I know this is a creepy way to see it, but... Immediately after episode 6x06 we had this. And beacuse Dean is in the break up process with Lisa and Ben, this could be taken as a Dean/Ben mirror... Ben was the "monster's son" for a while, or at least that way is how Dean see it inside of him. So, symbolically, we are talking about that here.

Now... Episode 6x08 "All dogs go to Heaven" a very blantant Dean mirror with the dog-man here... First of all... Remember the monster watching in silence while the woman sleeps?? We have the same again here... The dog-man (skinwalker) his name was Lucky.

There was interesting words exchanging between Dean and Lucky, and please pay attention to Dean's speech...

DEAN: Hang on, Sam. [to LUCKY (MAN)] Listen, you don't have to tell me why you're with the family. I get it.

LUCKY (MAN): Oh, you do, do you?

DEAN: You killed every threat that came near them. You care about them, in your own whack-a-doodle kind of way. It's obvious. What I want to know is, who was that guy you were kibitzing with? He a skinwalker, too?

So... Isn't it Dean talking to himself? Do he feel like a abandoned and hurted dog that needed a refuge? A family? Now... Check this other quote...

DEAN: What are you gonna do to that family, really? You gonna put your jaws around that little boy's throat? Clamp down, listen to him cry for his mom? 'Cause I'm gonna guess that these are the only people who in your pathetic life have ever showed you any kindness. So it's either that... or you can help us stop it.

Again, the scene of Dean pushing Ben against the wall when he was about to transform into a vampire (a monster) and then... Again talking to himself. Is so blantant that my heart broke instantly...

After this, Dean decided not to shoot him bc he knew that dog was him... But things didn't end well for Lucky...

When he tries to come back to Mandy and her son, this is what happened...

MANDY: Get away from this house, you psycho. And if you ever, ever come near me or my son again, so help me...

LUCKY (MAN): I know I probably deserve...

MANDY closes and locks the door.

This is the end for the monster that wanted to have a family, the difference here is... Dean really wanted to have this kind of life?

And the answer we already know...

Dean is puting salt on the windows while he's saying he's out... Tell the truth Dean.

And in 6x13 "Unforgettable" Dean said another thing to his brother (to himself) to put a final period here...

DEAN: Sam, y-y-you got to understand that all that crap last year -- all of it -- none of it was you.

Ok Dean, we get it. This last year trying to be a man with a normal life and family, it wasn't you. It was a lie.

Sam's lies and foreshadowing Castiel's secrets

Before to continuó with this meta... I promised you some bi-Dean scene... Here you have.

Look how Dean checks out the police man and he even greeted him that way. As we know... Dean likes uniforms... 😉 (This gif was made by my gorgeous friend Agus!)

Ok... Let's start with the brothers here...

We all recall that scene when Sam just watched as Dean was turned into a vampire. Ok... So Dean saw it too. And that was one of his biggest alarms about his brother. This happened in episode 6x05.

In episode 6x06, another interesting parallel with the Winchesters brother and Sam's lies.

SAM: You know what a "tell" is?

OLIVIA: Excuse me?

SAM: It's a poker term... for when you're bluffing. Like what you just did with your hair.

OLIVIA: What are you trying to say?

SAM: You're lying.

DEAN is surprised at the force of SAM's inquiry.

OLIVIA: What?!

SAM: Tell us what you did to your sister.

Ok big parallel each time Dean wanted to obtain the truth about what happened with the vampire and why he didn't take care of him.

So after this we had the big scene with VERITAS, and very very WINCEST thing right here...

Look at their hands touching... Yep very disgusting and very Sera Gamble era. 😒 I'm just pointing things here for you to see what this woman wanted to do with the show.

Let's see continue now with CAS.

In this same episode we had another confession that could be analyze as a parallel and foreshadow of Castiel and his secrets.

SAM: So, you had some idea Corey might have taken her own life?

ROOMMATE: Well... she had been going through a bit of a hard time lately... at school. And then, um, her cat, Mittens, had just ran away. But, really, it was her boyfriend. She was sure that he was cheating on her. But he was just very good at covering his tracks. Which, of course, made her completely obsessed with --

Ok we are here talking about Castiel... The "boyfriend" term will be use by Balthazar twice, one with Dean and the other with Sam, referencing to Castiel. Castiel is the boyfriend, and he is cheating on Dean and Sam.

Also, making Balthazar calling Castiel as the Winchesters's boyfriend, equally... Another SERA GAMBLE tool, "look Cas isn't Dean's boyfriend, is Sammy's boyfriend too, so... Is irrelevant."

Episode 6x07 we had the boys discovering SAMUEL was working for Crowley, so the entire episode is a big foreshadow of what was about to happen when Dean, Sam and Bobby discover Castiel's deal with the King of Hell. And is also the episode in which the idea about Purgatory and the power of souls is presented.

And ironically, we'll have Dean and Sam literally working for Crowley too, so ... A little hole in the narrative here... But hey... We don't talk about this Season, don't we?

To conclude

Dean asked for the truth and he had it with his brother and he will have it with Castiel, the problem is... Is he ready to handle it?

The first half of the season was a foreshadow for Castiel's secret and we could see in many episodes how the writers showed us what Dean felt by leaving Ben and Lisa and how he will have to handle with a big betrayal.

In Sera Gamble era we had a lot of references to Wincest and holes in the narrative, that we will see more often in the incoming episodes.
