When you whispered, “I love you,” your words were barely audible. You sat beside him, hands almost touching. His pinky finger brushed against yours, and neither of you could meet each other's gaze.
He sighed quietly, as if something was annoying him. Had you done something wrong?
“I bite,” he spoke.
“I'll eat you alive, you know.”
His words were oddly serious, his tone quiet for him.
“I know,” you whispered back, reaching your hand out, reaching for something- anything, in the warmth of his hand.
His fingers curled away from yours.
Your hand met the air.
“Bite me. Tear me apart, eat me a thousand times… as long as you're fed.”
Your tone was meek. Weak, and he could tell. It wasn't his fault you fell in love with him. Like a baby deer, not yet smart enough to recognize danger, you were wandering right into his gaping maw. Perhaps it was love that made you blind.
“I'm warning you, you know,” he snapped. How could you be this naive? This trusting. It was sickening.
“And I understand,” your voice broke, almost a whimper. You kept your hand on the bench.
He sighed, heavy- as if you were a burden. You didn't want to be. If he was a buck, you'd be a good little deer and follow him into the forest. If he turned out to be a wolf, you would trust him when he snarled, and if he was a hunter, you would step right into the bear trap if he asked you to. Blood seeping from your wound, he would finally praise you, and his hand would stroke your head. If he wanted, you would let him use every part of you. Your beautiful coat, your flesh for meat, if he would just take you he may see how useful you are.
“I can't love you like you want me to. I can't be kind, or tender.” He stated, and despite his distant tone, his fingers came over yours, like they hadn't in a very long time.
"I'll only hurt you."
Your tears were cold, sliding down your unbearably hot face.
“That's okay. I'll love you still, as long as you'll let me.”

c!scott is a "good partner" in that being allied with him will substantially increase your chances of victory in the deathgame youre trapped in but he has such a transactional/strategic view of relationships/friendship/loyalty that he thinks this equates to him being a "good partner" in an emotional sense outside the context of said deathgames which is something that he decidedly is not

Adventures in de-girlbossifying female BSD characters, pt. Gin Akutagawa. I've already talked a bit about how I think people tend to write Gin fairly simplistically: as the supportive and sometimes protective younger sister of Ryuunosuke, who is also a badass assassin who rarely speaks.
I think what people tend to gloss over is the implication of Gin being situationally nonverbal. Please correct me if I'm wrong (I've done what research I can as someone who doesn't experience this), but selective mutism tends to correlate with social anxiety, which generally is a trait that I rarely see Gin portrayed with, despite the high likelihood that she has some degree of anxiety surrounding social situations. It even makes sense why she couldn't speak in the beginning of the series, but was able to hold a conversation with Tachihara later on. Gin is the younger sister of one of the Port Mafia's elite, and it can be inferred that Gin only joined the organization because Ryuunosuke was recruited by Dazai. Even someone without a pre-existing disability would probably feel nervous about how they're perceived by their coworkers (accusations of nepotism, general misogyny, etc).
This is just my oc-ification of Gin based on limited canon portrayals of her, but I think Gin would struggle with a fear of receiving criticism or contempt a lot. She's comfortable with speaking within the Black Lizards, and maybe a little bit with the ADA, because she's grown to understand and expect what their responses to her will be. It's not that she doesn't speak because she's shy or reticent (though she can be these things as well), but that she can't speak, because there's the sense that whatever she has to say won't be received well.
Personally, I also agree that Gin isn't innately timid or meek by any means, but I also think that people, once again, oversimplify her because she's a female character into a girlboss caricature that is infinitely capable and strong, when she's portrayed in the series as someone with multiple layers, personas even, in a literal sense.
