yeah i made him a fish lookin thang whatcha gonna do about it
#mother series#giegue#earthbound beginnings#yeah im proud of this so im putting it on tumblr too. hiii mother times server how yall doing#ignore that he doesnt have a back leg i tried but it looked kinda weird and cramped#anyways i gave giegue gill things and a more fish-esque appearance because i hc his species is aquatic#like they come from an oceanic? aquatic? unsure. well its a planet that is almost entirely water im talkin subnautica levels of sea#that's why he had that capsule orb thing in mother 1. he needs it to live and the weird engine-esque things at his side are like purifiers#making sure the liquid is suitable. not too focused on much else (why bother when you're a super powerful psychic) but isn't exactly fragil#like the material is flexible and rubbery even. you hit it and it bounces back a good amount#we don't really get an explanation for why earth itself was chosen to get invaded. at least i don't remember if there was one sorry 😭 BUT#i hc also that the reason giegue's species decided to invade here specifically was because of territory. i mean we've got a lot of water#maybe they took george and maria to test humanity in a sense. if they reacted positively to an alien child mayybe they wouldnt have needed#to straight up eradicate humanity maybe this time we wont need to fight too much. would be inconvenient to waste firepower on these#simple creatures. they're not even that smart. can't even use our epic brain powers lol (aged real well)#once again they aint found him yet but when they do they gon be surprised#anyways its like 4 in the morning i cant keep doing this. thanks for reading my brainworms over a game ive never played 🤙

Mother 3 Headcanon of the Day: After getting mauled by the Mecha Drago, Claus developed Broca's Aphasia, a speech disorder where the person afflicted has extreme difficulty forming sentences and words. While as the Masked Man, he gets a machine installed in his head to smooth out some of his difficulties with speaking, it isn't perfect and he still struggles with forming very complex words and sentences.
In any post-game scenario where he lives, this machine got fried by the lightning and he can't rely on it anymore.

Well that’s one less up arrow key :/
#That's not great#Considerably less than ideal#It's been stuck and only half-functional for about a week now so I decided to look up how to remove and replace#Figured it'd be a fairly easy one and done - there was in fact gunk underneath and for a moment I was like#''Hella I'm such a handy repairperson'' lol#And then I snapped one of the Extremely Small and Delicate connectors and felt a whole lot less handy and repair-y#Still can't figure out how tf it's supposed to go together it's three fucking pieces and it's confusing as all hell#It's like playing the world's worst game of Operation except rather than getting zapped (thank goodness) you just can't go up a page - ever#That's not entirely true the little rubber nub does still work but it's not a /key/ y'feel#Which is especially not great since that's how I have Mother 3 mapped currently#Yeah roast me w/e I played all of Earthbound with the arrow keys and I'm not about to stop now#Also Mother 3 and Deltarune??? The UI tho#Which makes sense for Earthbound and Undertale's relationship I guess lol#Oh yeah and more technology frustration - my computer decided to restart without telling me and didn't save my Mother 3 session#So I got to replay for like a half hour to get back to where I was /when I had last saved/ ////game////#I'm fine I'm not frustrated at all#At least I use the up arrow with my middle finger and I've gotten into the habit of pressing down with my nail#Basically turning my finger over to use the arrow - it's like a home-grown key replacement lol#I will look up how to replace this mechanism but not tonight I'm too mad

I know it kinda sucks seeing Mother 3 rereleased in Japan and given nothing anywhere else, but
Honestly as a massive huge Mother fan, I dont really think it matters if Mother 3 gets an official release. The fan translation fills the void in more ways than people know. In the documentary Earthbound USA (which you need to go rent and watch right now its amazing. I backed the kickstarter 10 years ago and it was worth it) Itoi himself reveals he actually suggested to Miyamoto and some other big wigs at Nintendo to release the fan translation to the west, but he was told "it isn't as simple as that." Nintendo always knew about the translation, however due to Itoi holding rights with the franchise and his deep love for the fan community, it was never taken down and never will be. Same with most any Mother fan projects too. But still, Itoi has all but given the fan translation his blessing. He knew about it and suggested to Nintendo it be official. We got Mother 3, translated by Tomato, the most perfect man for the job, and given everything but the blessing by the series' creator. All its missing is the Official Nintendo Stamp of Approval, and at the end of the day, does that change much? I mean if they did release Mother 3 officially I would buy it right tf now lmao. But still. Side note: Habonichi ships internationally and is rarely if ever scalped, so you should have no trouble getting those cute plushies they are releasing.

What Mother games have you played, and in what order would you rank them from Best to Bestest?
I've played some of Mother 1 and generally know what happens throughout the rest of the game, I've beaten EarthBound, and I played through the vast majority of Mother 3 but then at one point in Chapter 7 my emulator fucked up my save and I lost progress and felt really discouraged and just went and watched a let's play of the rest on YouTube. I'll never forgive that damn 2012-era emulation handheld I bought off of ThinkGeek that I was playing it on at the time. Someday I'll go back and actually play the whole game from start to finish for myself. Maybe even pick up a flash cart or a reproduction cartridge to play it on the actual hardware
Anyway, I would say they're all absolute classics, but the series got better with each new game. Mother 3 is my favorite. I generally consider either Mother 3 or Undertale my favorite game ever made. Yes even though I didn't quite beat it myself don't @ me

Every Deltarune fan by this point has an idea of who the Knight could be. I think just about every theory under the sun has been expressed by this point, and even a few that aren't... mostly because the only concrete bit of information we have about the Knight is that they're a Lightner, if only because whoever they are, they can create Dark Worlds as only Lightners can... that we know of, anyway.
Otherwise we got nada. No hint of a motive, and any possible clues to who they are is conjecture at best.
I myself got a million ideas, but one I keep coming back to comes not from in-game info or hints, but from the very nature of Deltarune... and Undertale, for that matter.
See, as we all know, Deltarune is a spinoff/quasi-sequel to Undertale, though it doesn't quite fit either of those definitions.
Tumblr media
Famously, Undertale is strongly inspired by the Earthbound games...
Tumblr media
... and Deltarune in some ways is even closer, being a straight up RPG compared to Undertale. But besides that, Deltarune is something of an homage to classical JRPGS in general, including the none other than Final Fantasy.
Tumblr media
Heck, our supposed antagonist is basically a boiled down version of Final Fantasy's very first villain- the corrupt knight Garland.
Tumblr media
Heck, within the universe of Deltarune itself there seems to be its own version of FF, a game called Dragon Blazers, to say nothing of the small shoutouts you see to the series here and there.
However, Earthbound and Final Fantasy both have a shared plot element down the line, and this fact is the most consequential for Deltarune itself I feel, and hints strongly towards the potential nature of the Knight.
Now, while Garland was (ultimately) the main threat of the very first game, a Knight is ultimately a warrior a service into someone higher than themselves, to a liege of some sort. Symbolically, any antagonist who serves a bigger, badder antagonist is a 'Knight'- think Darth Vader to Emperor Palpatine.
This comparison is no coincidence, because both Earthbound AND Final Fantasy dipped its toes into this dynamic- via Golbez from Final Fantasy 4, and the Masked Man from Mother 3.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Golbez and The Masked Man are eventually revealed to be Theodor and Claus, respectively, the Long Lost Brothers of the games primary heroes.
And this is where things get interesting for Deltarune, and the Knight. Because we have three characters with a sibling whose absence looms over the plot...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kris, Sans and Noelle alike have a sibling, one at college, one seemingly isolating himself in the house, and one lost under yet-to-be-determined circumstances...
Now obviously, we're too early to make any kind of real judgement call, and what we know is too scant and obscured to have a solid picture of who the Knight is and why they're doing what they're doing.
But given the influences of Deltarune? I got a pretty good pool of suspects that I'm pretty confident about, though in the end we're only going to know when the rest of the Deltarune gets here. I could be entirely wrong, and I kinda hope so... I've grown attached to the notion that the Knight is completely independent from anyone pre-established.
But we'll see.

Welcome to the dog days of summer! Therefore, it's a great time for Certified Dog Facts (tm)! Everyone, please welcome Mick (Ninten's dog) and King (Ness's dog)!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Id: Two clay models of white dogs with grey spots. The one on the left (Mick) has pointy ears, a curled tail, and a black spiky collar; while the one on the right (King) has no collar, a long, loose tail, and floppy ears.]
Aw, look, they said 'hi' in lovely JPEG quality! (Best pictures I could find.)
However, the dogs themselves are not what I wish to share. Did you know that both Mick and King are pretty old by dog standards?
As for Mick, this little (translated) tidbit of Mother Encyclopedia reveals his age relative to Ninten, who is confirmed to be 12 in the same document.
Tumblr media
[Id: A translated screenshot of text from Mother Encyclopedia reading, "When you — that is to say, when Ninten was born in the rural American town of Mother's Day, the family dog Mick was one year and five months old. When he got to meet the zero-year, zero-month-old Ninten, who was raising his first cries, Mom and Dad felt like they could have kissed God. It wasn't long before Ninten got kind of big, climbing up onto Mick's back and vice-versa."]
Therefore, Mick is older than Ninten, being 13 years old!
As for King, his age is revealed in-game via Ness's Magicant flashback. Between regions, Ness is either 12 (JPN) or 13 (US), and when he was a baby in said flashback, we can see King as a puppy wandering around, meaning that King is also likely older than Ness.
Tumblr media
[Id: A black-and-white screenshot of EarthBound/Mother 2 taking place in the living room of Ness's house. King, but as a puppy, is wandering around.]
This makes King at least 12/13 years old as well! Some old dogs up in here. No wonder King's always so tired!

Thoughts about Porky?
my thoughts on porky are such a vast tangled web of forever spaghetti that i'm not even sure where to begin or what to pin down. the premise of a tormented child ascending to near-godhood out of sheer misanthropic spite towards the whole wide world makes my brain do backflips like a sea world dolphin. i'll ramble a bit about him.
he's ness' foil. just two chubby kids who probably grew up with their (un)fair share of bullying. the only thing distinguishing them was the familial abuse porky suffered, which he inevitably regurgitated. then destiny comes along, choosing ness over porky, and the jealousy just eats porky alive. watching his bestie accumulate friends and accolades, unable to accept it's his own rotten behavior that's driven a wedge between them. gotta imagine the burden of cutting porky off was almost unbearable for ness. somethin' that keeps him up at night, wondering if he'd just been a little kinder, or sterner, or more understanding - maybe he could've saved his old friend? not quite yet realizing it was Not At All his responsibility to "fix" someone who'd dug his grave and laid in it. porky's the kinda bad guy you love to hate, but considering his upbringing, you hesitate to blame the poor schmuck. all he knows is authority and manipulation. if you gave any ornery ostracized thirteen year old unlimited power - instead of empathy and guidance - they'd probably go down the path of vengeance, too.
he's lucas' foil. both of 'em were given plenty of reasons to hate the world. when faced with an unhappy childhood, do you choose love anyways, and move forward? or do you let it become your villain origin story? porky refuses to grow up, to such an extreme degree, that he's gotta drag everybody down into neverland with him. thinks he's got human nature all figured out, when really - kid dropped out in eighth grade - his expertise starts at the middle school lunch table and ends at Lord of the Flies. where lucas seeks to bring about a brighter future, porky's terminally obsessed with the past. barfs up the same old hierarchical capitalist bullshit he grew up with. hoards memorabilia. makes monuments to his warped nostalgia, as if anyone on the nowhere islands knows or cares. even tries to mold lucas into a makeshift ness - one last final battle, one last chance for destiny to stop me, here, take this baseball bat, come get me, let's play. but it doesn't worrrrk, because the gilded past he aches for is long buried, and these people aren't actors in his self-aggrandizing biopic. where lucas wakes up and says, "i don't have to be the same coward i was yesterday," porky says, "me? change? not a chance in hell." even if it costs him everything. porky's real worst nightmare is a world that moves on without him. once he's trapped in his time capsule, that's exactly what he's got in store.
i think he's the sunk cost fallacy incarnate. the sheer momentum of a thousand horrible decisions he can never turn back on. earthbound porky might get a little bit of slack, sure. but given a bazillion years worth of opportunities to change, mother 3 porky actively chose to get worse. what fucks me up most is how real he is. can't call a villain like this "insane", or even terribly exaggerated, when i'm lookin' out the window these days at billionaires, covid deniers, fuckin' terfs and maga hats. some people really would sooner die, or become all-consuming monsters, than admit they were wrong. it's all or nothing. in his eyes, either he's a visionary hero, or everything he's ever done was irredeemably reprehensible - and all the torment and criticism and loneliness he endured was therefore deserved. he can't bear the weight of it, so he simply doesn't. that's what underpins his character, to me. like. the moment he'd admit fault, or apologize, or express an ounce of regret? he'd cease to be porky. denying himself the human capacity to grow, forever, just to spare his fragile ego. could almost pity him. almost.
a perfect villain for both of the stories he terrorizes, and my favorite villain in anything ever. when itoi said "porky is truly a poem in himself" he wasn't kidding.

Hi there! I recently finished reading the Black Butler manga for the first time and I’m completely blown away!!! One thing I’m curious about and would like to know from a long-time manga reader: When did people start to seriously theorize that Ciel had a brother? I binge read the manga in less than a week and all of the foreshadowing/clues went completely over my head, so I would love to find out what made people start to get suspicious and what kind of theories started to pour in! 👀
Wow, that's a lot of reading in less than a week! I would have missed a bunch of little details, too, if I had tried that! 😯
When did 2CT start?
Well, I didn't join the fandom until sometime in 2015, and some people were already talking about various hints that there was probably a twin brother. @kurotwins and @akumadeenglish who are both not active here anymore (at least not on those blogs) we're talking about it, as well as some others I'm not as sure about. Apparently, the Japanese chunk of the fandom didn't really debate there being a twin; it was sort of accepted very early-on. It might be a matter of translation issues, like "sons" translated to "son", etc.
Anyway, I recall reading a bunch of their posts, and then I started paying more attention to a scene in ch1. Chlaus shows up with the packaging for a game called "Mouse3" by "Ninkyodo". Well, that's a parody of Mother3 by Nintendo, which was released in Japan on April 20, 2006. Unlike the previous two versions of the game, Mother3 never got localized as part of the EarthBound series. Which is why Chlaus tells our earl the "game" was so difficult to find in Italy. Of course, that packaging contains the drug evidence that our earl needed to show Scotland Yard. To put Azzurro Vanel (and potentially the Ferro family) away.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The irises are used in both Victorian flower language and Japanese flower language to mean a few different things, but one meaning they share in common is something along the lines of "I have a message for you." Well, that message is the game packaging shown on the very next page.
Mother3 is about mirror twin boys who deal with tragedy soon after their birthday (9th or 10th). Their mother is killed by a monster, and their father is so distraught about her death that he goes into a rage and end up in jail for a while. Soon after the dad gets out of (escapes from) jail, he finds out the older mirror twin had gone off by himself to kill the monster, but now he has gone missing. Everyone is searching, but no body has been found. However, the player of the game can see Claus' broken body at the bottom of a cliff. It's understood that he's dead. The main characters still don't know, though. Not for another three, almost four, years. After losing his wife and being unable to find his older son, the father becomes kind of useless. Notice that the guy in Kuroshitsuji is Chlaus, and the older twin in Mother3 is Claus.
Three years later, Lucas (younger mirror twin) is about 13 years old, and he sets off on his own quest for revenge, along with the loyal family dog, Boney. The rest of the game takes place during this one year, then it ends just before his next birthday. The last thing Lucas has to do before he can "win" is defeat his own older twin brother, who had died, been turned into a Fascinating Chimera, and had been pitted against him.
So, I started coming up with my Mother3 theory for Kuroshitsuji back in December 2015. Back then, I was already theorizing that not only is there a twin brother, but he's a mirror twin. The missing twin is older, dead, reanimated, and will pop up again as an adversary.
Soooo, idk how long some version or other of 2CT has been around, but a very specific version of it came to me (and became very serious to me) in December 2015. And it's canon now: mirror twin brothers; one lives while the other dies; the dead one is reanimated; they end up having to confront each other.
Even Sebastian gets to parallel the roles of both the loyal family dog, Boney (under contract) and the Dark Dragon who must be given your "heart" to follow your will (as the demon who demands a soul as payment).
That's why I'm so into my Mother3 theory, which started out kind of small and grew and grew... because the similarities don't stop there. Not even close. Numerous characters and plot lines have strong parallels to Mother3 characters and plot lines, while a few are better paralleled in Mother and Mother2. The timelines are essentially the same between Kuroshitsuji and Mother3, too.
Maybe check out my "Why I theorize" post and my "Masterpost 1" for more on that, to get more into it. There are several masterposts and addendums, plus a few more masterposts on the way... eventually. When I first started posting about it, I didn't expect it to be such a big finding, but here I am, still talking about it! 😆

I've heard so many good things about Yume Nikki, it being the backbone behind Omori, Undertale, Lisa the Painful, all that jazz.
I played all of the Mother/Earthbound games and fell in love with pretty much all of them with maybe the exception of the first one because it's an old game and kind of bare-bones as a result, but I saw the animations of Yume by Gobou on Youtube and assumed it to be similar to Undertale and the like just because of how whimsical it all looked.
Both Omori and Undertale got spoiled for me by some toxic fans, so I never got to play those games completely blind, but because the Yume fandom is relatively quiet, I managed to avoid knowing pretty much anything about the game.
So I had little to no expectations besides it being an early 2000s "Omori-like" game just from what the fans of the said game always relate it to, and the only thing I did know was what the main character looked like.
So I downloaded it on my PC the other day and whoo boy.
Now I'm not saying it's bad, not by a long shot, but it feels like an acquired taste. I had no idea what I was doing or why I was doing anything apart from progressing (which I know is the point, since it's supposed to be a purely exploration-type game) but when there was no dialogue, no interactions with NPCs aside from them either chasing you or doing little animation before it resets once you leave and come back, I was taken aback.
I've yet to finish the game, but from what I've heard others say, there's not a story, no plot really, so I'm having a hard time trying to endear myself to the game so far.
And who knows? Maybe my thoughts will change once I actually finish it.

What are your thoughts on webtoon obsession with the reincarnation female mc who was send back in time b4 she died and vow to get revenge on those who wrong / isekai where mc wait up as protagonist or villainess of her favorite story?I never really read them, more like heard ppl reactions to them or just speed read through certain chapters to see the fuss or see a terrible character I heard about suffer. I knows the remarried empress is popular but I heard of how some ppl stop reading because the mistress who stole the mic emperor husband was a slave who want power to protect herself and it despite the slavers as good people. I also watched videos about the problematic aspects of that genre like colorism, leading into European beauty standards, and racism depiction of poc.
I personally think that there's a cultural discrepancy with webtoons/webcomics that follow such a trope.
Like, almost all of them are made by korean authors/artists, but they don't take cues from korean culture at all (or asian culture in general). Why, though? I wouldn't the mind the genre and its clichés at all if they at least bothered to be more diverse.
You know the MOTHER/Earthbound series, right? Have you ever wondered why its aesthetics aren't eurocentric (but rather more Sci-Fi and modern in comparison), despite Shigesato Itoi himself loving Dragon Quest and being clearly inspired by the series? That happens because Itoi didn't knew anything about fantasy eurocentric elements and got more creative in his approach, molding the games closely to his experiences as a developer and as a person.
Just because it's a villainess story, that doesn't mean it should be always set in Not-Europe. Villains exist in every genre and ethnicity BEYOND Fantasy and eurocentric ones; why not work around that?
Also, why do these webtoons always have to involve romance? What if the reincarnated villainess decides to get her shit together and change her ways to avoid an unsavory death? What if the villainess uses her power and influence as a political figure to combat against injustice (slavery, racism, unrealistic beauty standards, etc...) and wants to introduce democracy? What if the villainess is sapphic, ace/aro or non-monogamous? What if the villainess just doesn't want to conquer kingdoms and is willing to give up her royal status to live a commoner's life?
And what about the drama and mind fuckery that comes with reincarnating in another person's body and having full access to their memories and intimacies? The horror that comes with briefly experiencing the cold and dark embrace of Death before entering a new world? The uncertainty and anxiety that comes with being able to start anew in your new body and identity?
Surely there are other issues that are much more concerning and interesting than who's kissing who in a story.

The Earthbound Stars 2/?
Morning Routines and Plans
this bit was originally going to be longer but i ran out of motivation T-T i still got a bunch done tho so :D
Previous Next
Ori opened their eyes and immediately closed them against the sunlight streaming in from the open curtains. With a sleepy yawn, they crawled out of bed. Their blankets got tangled in their legs, and they awkwardly fell onto the floor with a flomph and a startled squawk. With a small amount of incredible effort, and lots of squeaks, they escaped the blankets trapping them.
“Haha! I have vanquished you foul beast!” Ori declared with a giggle. “You cannot defeat the great Ori! The bestest trap escaper person ever!” They put a foot on the pile of blankets, like a hunter with a particularly hard kill. “Feast your eyes, oh terrible beasts! Upon your fate at the hands of the great Ori!”
“The great Ori is going to be late for meeting with their friend!” Lesca called from the kitchen, with a hint of laughter in her voice. Ori let out a gasp and started bouncing on the balls of their feet. They got to see Sasri today! You see her every day though. But still! It’s amazing to see her! They ran around the room packing up everything they needed for the festival.
Map? Check! Ride tickets? Check! Phone to call Mama if I get kidnapped? Check! Is it charged? They pulled it out of the pocket it was in and checked, it was at 56%. It’s good enough! Wallet for food money? Check! Money in the wallet? Gotta ask Mom for that. I feel like I’m forgetting something… Mama will tell me if I am!
They opened the door, running to their mother and hugging her. “Good morning Ori,” she paused, looking them up and down, “do you plan to attend in your pajamas?” Ori looked down at their dinosaur pajama pants and cat shirt that didn’t match at all. “Ah! that is what escaped my memory, thank you dearest mother of mine!” Lacsa burst into laughter. “I can’t handle you talking like the bards in the park, please talk normally you’re going to kill me.”
Ori giggled and hugged Lesca again. “Sorry Mom! It’s fun to talk all dramatically though.”
“Seems like it. Leave your backpack here, I’ll make sure you have everything before I go.”
“Okie! Tell the hunters I say hi! And that I’ll see them this weekend!”
“I will, they all absolutely adore you, you know that? Especially the Lady.”
“How could they not love me? I’m adorable.” They did a little pose, as if to prove their point, and promptly ran to their room to change.
When they were done, they ran back out and gave their mom a hug. “Bye Mom!” They sprinted down the hall and down the stairs. Sasri was waiting by the door of the apartment complex. Her hair was in a braid that came to a stinger, the kind a scorpion has. A small, slightly glowing, star was stamped on the base of her throat. She immediately saw Ori, despite their attempt to be stealthy, and hugged them. “Ori! Are you ready?” Ori grinned and nodded.
“Yeah! Let’s go!”
