So I don't know if you gotten a few asks about this, but are you sure you won't have any trouble with your social media networking given the recent Florida HB3 that passed?
While I'm aware that it doesn't go into effect by January 2025 and that it will likely get challenged in the process, I was wondering if you have a contingency plan in case if something were to happen.
While that bill is terrible and a massive overreach, I don't particularly see it having any direct impact on me as an individual seeing as how I am neither the owner of a social media site nor a minor under the age of 14. The bill is also absolutely going to be challenged in court, and hopefully it'll be deemed unconstitutional and thrown out. The same thing already happened in Arkansas last year. I know there are always concerns over the "protecting kids" angle being used by conservatives to censor things like any mention of queerness, but there is no way they're going to pull that on such a wide scale without it getting labeled a violation of the first amendment
Even if it did meaningfully impact me, I'm not sure what kind of "contingency plan" you expect me to have here. I can't exactly leave Florida. I know messages like this showing concern over the political climate in my state are well-meaning, but they really do not help me at all

Is the TKP revival and accompanying video essay still in the cards for this year?
They are. They're just not my focus right now, because they'll be a huge undertaking. I'm probably going to have to reread not only the entire TKP archive but also all of Ken's actual Sonic comics as a refresher before I can make any real progress on the video or resume regular updates. It's been anywhere between five and ten years since I last read any of Ken's Sonic comics, and I don't want to just recycle things I said on the blog in my 20s in the video. There are things I missed, and things I would articulate differently at age 30 than I did at age 20. All this will take some time. But, I mean, the year's not even halfway over
In the meantime, I'm working on a long piece about both the original FF7 and Rebirth, which is taking longer than I'd hoped because I'm making very slow progress with Rebirth. And for TKP, I know I'll have to write something about the Knuckles show this week, and after that I still have a half-finished review of Sonic Dream Team, and I might post something about the Fang miniseries as well

What is, in your opinion, the biggest JRPG franchise that actually writes female characters well? (Sorry if this is too controversial a question to ask)
I would probably just point to Final Fantasy, if you just ignore the lack of female party members in 15 and the terrible writing the women get in 16. Prior to those two FF was always known for having a lot of great and compelling female characters in its casts

I completely agree with everything you said in your "memory hole" response post.
But also Infinite needs to come back. I love him. I love that he hates Shadow, and I love that he's super edgy, and I unironically love his theme song
Infinite can come back because 1) his defeat in Forces was so anticlimactic that nobody was even really sure what happened to him until the damn Encyclo-speed-ia clarified it years later and 2) it would be funny to see Shadow curb stomp him again

Do you think the Sonic franchise should memory hole certain characters? Like, Chaos Gamma, Elise, Mephiles for example (I would’ve put Black Doom here but uh, he’s a bit more around now huh)
I mean, lots of one-off Sonic characters like these already ARE memory holed. They only really exist in the games they originate from. (Ian Flynn bringing up the thought of using them in a podcast does not count as them being relevant again)
I get the desire to play with all the toys in the toy box and give old ideas a second chance that fans (and Ian) have, and there are definitely a handful of currently unused or underused characters I'd like to see come back. (We REALLY need Sticks back, and the Classic comics desperately need more Honey.) And I'm glad we're in this era where the Sonic series is less ashamed of its weird history. But also, like. Some of those were genuine missteps, and we've moved on for a reason
It feels like every month I see more and more Gen Z Sonic fans who weren't even old enough to have played the games when they were new reminisce about how "cool" it was to give Shadow a gun, or how "awesome" 06's story was, and how we should go back to that "peak" era for Sonic, and I just cannot get on board with that. It was called the Dark Age of Sonic at the time for a reason. I had to actually play those games when they came out. I was hyped for them and really, REALLY wanted to love them. But they were janky, ugly, unfun games with terrible stories that abandoned so much of Sonic's identity in favor of chasing contemporary trends. They were Sonic games that wanted to be anything BUT a Sonic game. There may have been some stuff I liked in that era (the Rush games, and honestly I always liked Black Knight), but it was miserable not knowing if we'd ever get another truly good 3D Sonic platformer again
Maybe it's easier to look back on certain elements of those games fondly now that time has passed and we know we did, in fact, get more Sonic games after them that were actually good. But Sonic is in a WAAAAAYYYYY better place now than it was when I was in middle school. I do not yearn for Mephiles and Elise to come back. It would be funny if they did, but I don't think we need them

Suppose you were an increasingly popular rap artist who simply wanted to interact with his fans on twitter, but every single one of them was named after a homophobic slur... that you aren't allowed to say.

are you gonna play through the stormblood expansion of ff14 now that it's free (it has some of my favorite instanced content tbh)
I definitely wanna go back and do the rest of the MSQ past Heavensward at some point, yeah. (I'm pretty sure Anthony bought me all the expansions up through Endwalker already when he got me back into FF14 last year.) I've just been putting that off because it's time consuming, and I tend to play very little else when my brain is in MMO mode. Got a lot of other shorter games I wanna get through right now after Rebirth

when you download a pdf and it's called like 1328723486basdf12.pdf but then you gently rename it to what it's supposed to be. that's forming a bond with a hurt and wild mythological creature and reminding it who it is.

I don't think this has any actual direct implications for IDW Sonic, but something I noticed is that the IDW Gen 5 ongoing ended last year? Like they're still making Gen 5 comics, but it looks like they've pivoted to making a bunch of miniseries instead of having an ongoing.
I would say this is more of a sign of the general lack of enthusiasm for MLP G5 than a sign of how IDW is doing
They seem to be shifting the art style to match the 2D series on YouTube, since by all accounts that seems to be more popular with kids than the actual main show on Netflix, so the clean break from the old ongoing may partially be to account for that. As for the move to a string of miniseries, I have to assume they just wanna sell kids the TPBs of those miniseries as standalone graphic novels, hoping that the MLP-liking kids who weren't following the ongoing might still wanna pick up a random MLP graphic novel at their school book fair or whatever
By comparison the ongoing seemed to be aimed more at a mix of kids and older fans, jumping straight into an arc about finding Discord in the ruins of Canterlot and learning more about what's happened in the time between generations and watching him be sad that Fluttershy is dead. I have to assume adult fans didn't stick with it very far past that initial arc, if they even bought those - which is a problem for an ongoing, because kids ain't buying floppy comics in 2024. So if that's the case, trying out something different that might be more appealing to kids makes sense
This is my armchair analysis as someone who isn't even reading any of these comics, anyway
