Forgot about seeing this gem out in the wild west of fucking Walmart. I was showing my friend there's a Lucas tag just for "Momma's Boy" to be under it.

Isaac is one of the most interesting Tazmily villagers, now that I think about it. He is established very early on as feeling like an outsider, but I didn’t realize how fast he latched onto Fassad because he felt that someone was being nice to him for once. That’s basically what it feels like— Fassad takes advantage of someone who already feels isolated by doing this seemingly very kind gesture (wanting Isaac to be happy and giving him this item which should help him with that– for free!) when it’s all just to manipulate him into listening to Fassad.

Isaac initially seems interested in a Happy Box just for the hell of it, but I think he’s a lot more unhappy than he lets on, and Fassad being nice to him made a major difference in how he feels. It’s a shame that you won’t see this line of him offering to be a follower of Fassad immediately after getting a Happy Box if you don’t go out of your way to look for it, because it sets up a very crucial arc for him later on after the timeskip.
Tumblr media
It says a lot that Isaac genuinely thinks that the town (and really, I think he actually means himself more than anybody) is nothing without Fassad. Fassad is the only thing that brings meaning to his life, so he’s latched on intensely to Fassad and to everything he’s brought to Tazmily.
It’s also very interesting if you look at Donna as a foil to him because she’s the other villager who expresses that she was already extremely unhappy here.
Tumblr media
But nothing ever seems to make a difference for her. To be honest, she doesn’t seem happy after the timeskip either. She doesn’t have a job, she has no money, so she’s just always sitting around at home, wanting to go to New Pork because there’ll be more happiness there. Nothing makes her happy because, well, materialism isn’t going to solve her depression. Ollie is the same way, to the point that he almost constantly talks about being depressed. In fact, he seems more depressed than he ever was before the timeskip.
Tumblr media
But the changes to Tazmily help Isaac because it isn’t the materialism, it’s the fact that he is actually given meaning and community that makes him deeply loyal to Fassad. He feels like he’s finally grown as a person and has found a place in life that is fulfilling to him. However, what it’s really done is make him an arrogant and unkind person.
Tumblr media
This is why he ultimately winds up joining the Pigmasks by chapter 8. Isaac is desperate to feel like he fits in, and this is the extreme end to it because his entire village encourages support of Fassad and the Pigmasks. Isaac fits the bill of a loner who is radicalized by extremists since they are the ones to accept and (seemingly, although not really) truly care about him. It’s really sad. I feel genuinely sorry to see Isaac be manipulated in this way. He wasn’t a bad person at first. He was simply a vulnerable person taken advantage of by the worst kinds of people.

just found out that utopia, on an etymological level, means “nowhere" (or, literally, “no place”). interesting to think about how the Nowhere Islands were considered a utopia prior to the Pigmasks.
if you think about it like that (insert “it’s not that deep” image here), it feels like Nowhere’s utopian nature inherently forewarns its own demise.  no place can ever be utopian, and even Nowhere, paradoxically existing as utopian and not at all times, can’t escape that.
like, even prior to the Pigmasks, i get this feeling that Nowhere was never able to be a utopia forever. Tazmily was built upon the notion of destroying one’s memories in hopes of creating something better. it inevitably led to its own destruction in ignorance of suffering and evil. ignorance of that begets those things, i guess, so inevitably, the utopian paths leads down towards dystopia. inherently, utopia is its own undoing– at least in Nowhere’s case it is.
there is no such thing as utopia. to have a loving, kind society takes active effort and energy. i don’t think the villagers were selfish for how they chose to go about creating Tazmily; it’s understandable. but it was a lesson to be learned– that they can’t avoid the effort of kindness. without active choice towards kindness, they became cruel with ease.
it’s why Nowhere can only improve if the people who live there– not just villagers, but everyone left behind there– choose to make the world better than it once was. the core of Mother 3 is Lucas choosing kindness at every possible turn no matter the cost, after all.

Thinking pre-timeskip tazmily was some quaint utopia tainted by Porky/capitalism flattens the story quite a bit. In my opinion, the point was since the Tazmilians chose to forget history instead of learn from it, they were susceptible to the same downfalls as before, Porky just accelerated it.
Tazmily likely would have lasted much longer without his involvement, but their ignorance made them easy to persuade into speedrunning inhumane industrialization and consumerism, so they may have made the same mistakes more gradually without his interference.

thinking about my ness' future, he is definitely Gets Married core and Raise A Family pilled, but i don't care to pair him with any of the canon characters. i think ness is gonna grow up and marry some nothingburger accountant named Steve or some grocery store customer service lady named Brenda. all his super cool interesting unique friends come over to visit their suburban home, and ness hypes up his sawdust-boring spouse like they're time magazine's person of the year, while his 2.5 kids and labrador retriever cheer and clamor for the delicious burgers he's cookin' up on the grill he bought from home depot last month
