𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐧
Fast talkers
Great poker faces, they know how to play cards
Knows all the drama whether they want to or not
Really inclusive people
Lots of empathy and acceptance. If you have something you feel like most people will judge and reject, chances are you guys won't
Plus, they're used to so many people and such different things, chances are you won't surprise them
People-skills, but borderline manipulative
Like yes, you can make people feel worthy and nice, but you can also sweet-talk your way into getting pretty much anything
At the same time though, pathological people pleasers
You want to keep everyone happy, you want to make everyone feel accepted, you want to make sure that everyone is excited and comfortable and enjoying themselves
And also at the same time, possibly pathological liars
Or just very good ones. It's as easy as breathing
Despite that however, the truth and honesty is important to you guys. You hate fake people, and you want to know how people really feel or what's really real, not some fabrication
Connects most with the funny side characters that actually are lowkey struggling under their facade
Spontaneous, always down for a new adventure
Really curious too. They'll be the ones to suggest trying something new on the menu, or going to a new cafe
Dimples when they smile
Great athletes, especially fast runners
Probably the most diverse set of kids because as Hermes is so acceptingly eclectic, he doesn't really have a type and goes around everywhere....
Got in trouble when they were kids (even if they were innocent), because they just have that wild, troublesome spark about them
If you get them angry, watch out, because best believe they have an intricate plan to your downfall? Is it super violent? Maybe not, but trust me when I say you will suffer
Words of affirmation is your love language. You guys need to communicate and can't function when everyone's feelings are all cloudy and you're not sure how people feel about you
Probably have a list of roasts and pick up lines just in case-
Can communicate with sheep as a little shepherd's blessing
You like shoes and probably have good-branded ones
Subjects such as economics, commerce or finance you enjoy
Playing the harp is another little blessing you have
Good secret keepers
Stealthy
Persuasive, like you guys can go far in advertising and communications
A bit of an ego, but definitely some insecurities too
Loneliness is something they deal with. They like having a group, and fitting in and laughing along withe everyone, and if people aren't connecting or they're on their own a lot, chances are they'll suffer a bit

As someone who hasn't done a lot of in-game RP before, I thought I'd just type up a little bit about my experiences so far for folks like me who are a bit newer to that scene! So far I've managed to go to 4 RP events over the past couple of months! 1 was the open world RP at the Gold Saucer, which was just a small gathering but loads of fun! I've also managed to check out three venues now! I'm just going to mention them all here, both for me to keep a record and remember what I've done, but also to link their deets for folks who might be looking for places to peep into! Details below the cut!
Tonight we met up with a German friend to meet their OC and checked out a performance event at The Still and Strings, which was really impressive! It was loads of fun, but not as easy to meet new OCs without prior arrangement like the event at the Saucer. We kept most of our RP to party chat because we didn't want to interrupt the performers and their routines, but it was definitely cool to have the atmosphere of a bar with a "live band" going on while our OCs talked. Also the mix up of songs was a great, eclectic vibe, there was a style of performance for everyone's musical preferences! Last month we visited The Jabberwocky on Zalera, which is a really gorgeous venue with such entertaining bar staff (I used to tend bar so I am always impressed when bartenders can rp some good flair haha) Plus it has a fun little gambling idea which can serve as a neat premise for attending in and of itself! We also checked out The Fireside on Balmung last month, which is just the coziest place with the cutest menu! The staff are super attentive too and very good at giving the place a nice homely atmosphere with their interactions! Also, they run things in the late night NA/OCE/SEA timezone so if you're like me and in a weird part of the world that's very handy c': (They are also having a thing next week which you can find the info about here!) On the actual roleplaying part, if you're very new to in-game RP there are a lot of things that can be overwhelming. The chatscroll being one of the biggest offenders. I like to give the people I know I am going to be interacting with a little icon by using the "Assign Friend Group" function. (You can find that by going to your friends list and right-clicking their name.) That let's me scan easily for their posts between everyone else's. Of course if you don't know anyone there, that won't be an option. In that instance I tend to just make my chatbox as big as possible and pray c': (If I find any good resources for making in-game RP more user friendly, I will post them for sure!) Open world was a bit scary at first, but then once we got started and got into the flow of things, it was really fun. I did keep my shout chat in a different window to keep things from getting confusing and I think that's a very good option for people who are venturing out into open world RP for the first time. Both the Jabberwocky and the Fireside have a bit more of an easy premise for interacting with strangers than the Still and Strings did, so for brand new people to the community, I'd suggest either of those as great venues to dip your toes in without being intimidated by a lot of chat scroll from different directions like the crowd and the performers. But if you're in a little group, the Still and Strings is a really good option where you can enjoy some RP with entertainment as well!

Michael Amott: “I like Depeche Mode, but I don’t want Arch Enemy to sound anything like them. I love Jimmy Page, but I don’t want to play like him. I’m happy being me”
“They said I ruined the band”: Michael Amott looks back on his days with Carcass and recounts the creation of Arch Enemy’s explosive new album, Deceivers
Tumblr media
With his long black hair covering his eyes and much of his face, Arch Enemy founder Michael Amott sports a wide grin that belies the savagery of the band’s melodic death metal as he saws into his white blood-spattered Dean Tyrant Bloodstorm signature guitar.
Whether rooted in place next to vocalist Alissa White-Gluz, swaying along with fellow Swedish extreme metal veteran, bassist Sharlee D’Angelo, or playing back to back with guitarist Jeff Loomis, Amott unfurls rapid-fire riffs and sky-piecing solos with equal finesse, delighted to be onstage again in front of thousands of fans.
This particular gig, August 14 at the Alcatraz Festival in Kortrijk, Belgium, comes two days after Arch Enemy released their 11th studio album, Deceivers, one of the band’s strongest and most eclectic offerings – which is saying a lot.
Since he formed Arch Enemy in 1995, Amott has been the primary writer for the band’s 11 consistently high-caliber albums, and the architect behind nine other records by his and D’Angelo’s soulful stoner metal supergroup, Spiritual Beggars.
Working with such a diverse range of rock has kept Amott creatively sated and helped him to weather various storms: stressful lineup and label shifts, shifting industry trends and, most recently, the Covid pandemic that prevented Loomis, the band’s lead guitarist, from joining Arch Enemy in the studio.
“I don’t like all the complications, of course, but writing a new album is super fun for me every time, no matter what,” says Amott from his home in Sweden. “And I enjoy it so much, so there’s never any lack of interest or ideas.”
Amott’s enthusiasm is infectious, and his abundant energy – at age 53 – resounds through Deceivers, the band’s first album since 2017’s Will to Power. Deceivers capitalizes on Arch Enemy’s greatest strengths – crushing riffs, hooky guitar licks and an abundance of crafty rhythmic shifts, atmospheric arpeggios and multifaceted vocal cadences  that create a striking balance of euphoric energy and unrelenting aggression.
As soon as it was released, Deceivers was greeted with universal praise and continues to enthrall listeners, whose devotion has turned Arch Enemy into one of the most popular extreme metal bands.
Deceiver, Deceiver has been streamed almost 7.5 million times on Spotify, and two other songs from Deceivers, Handshake with Hell and House of Mirrors each have accrued more than five million streams. For Amott, the goal wasn’t to increase the band’s profile or craft Arch Enemy’s raison d’etre, but simply to use familiar elements to create a new batch of great authentic songs.
“We still have the same team and it’s the same chefs in the kitchen,” Amott says with confidence. “We all know what we can make, so we just said, ‘Okay, let’s come up with a new menu for this season.’ And then you try to use all your ingredients in the best way possible.”
In addition to talking to Guitar World about the excitement that fueled the creation of Deceivers, Amott addressed the challenges of being unable to get Loomis into the studio, Arch Enemy’s unique approach to writing and recording, and whether there’s any life left in Spiritual Beggars.
Five years have passed since you released Will to Power. Were you itching to put out a new record?
“Absolutely. This has always been my passion. It used to be a hobby and then it became a career, so I’m really lucky. But I’ve always really enjoyed making new music, whatever I’m working on.”
Were there any challenges you faced in creating the songs for Deceivers?
“The only time it’s a little bit daunting is in the very beginning when I have no ideas and it’s just like I’m staring at a blank piece of paper. But then before you know it, you have half a song together. Soon after, you have two or three songs. And then you’ve done six or seven and you think, ‘Okay, shit, we’re halfway there.’ And you keep on going.”
What effect did the pandemic have on Arch Enemy?
“We were not so badly affected. We ended our tour for Will to Power on December 15, 2019, and we always planned to take a year off and write an album, so we were not going to play any shows during that time anyway. I guess we got away easy in the beginning. Then, of course, moving into 2021, it became more of a problem for everybody.”
You and drummer Daniel Erlandsson started working on new songs in January 2020. Did you finish writing the album before Covid shut down the music business?
“We accumulated a bunch of riffs and fragments of songs, and over the beginning of the year we put most of the songs together before we got stuck in Sweden. But Sweden didn’t have a lockdown the way the rest of the world did, so me and Daniel could still meet up and work on the demos. We did that through the summer and then we got over to Denmark and recorded the drums. Then, of course, I did my guitars, and we did the bass and vocals.”
Why didn’t Jeff Loomis join you in the studio to record his parts?
“We tried to get him over. We had the correct paperwork, and everyone was tested, but Jeff was not allowed to board the plane. We booked three different flights for him, but it was at a time when everything was shut down and they wouldn’t let him fly to Denmark.”
Did you and Jeff send files back and forth or work over the internet?
“I sent him the parts where I wanted him to record a solo, and then we worked remotely on them. I prefer to record face to face, of course, because in person you can see exactly what’s happening and give immediate feedback based on what you both just experienced in the room.
“When someone’s in America and you’re in Sweden and he’s uploading solos while you’re sleeping and then overnighting them, you don’t have that kind of feedback. When we’re all together, maybe I get inspired by the last part by something he plays. And I’ll go, ‘Well, fuck it. Why don’t you do something at the end of the song as well as an outro. You can just let it fly.’
“That doesn’t work as well when you’re not both there. We tried and did our best and I think his solos on the record are great, but I missed the vibe of recording together.”
You both play solos on the record. How would you compare your styles?
“We have very different, contrasting styles, and I’ve always loved that. It’s like in Iron Maiden. I’ve always liked Adrian Smith’s style compared to Dave Murray’s. Sure, I like Dave Murray, too, but I enjoyed Adrian’s more hard rock, blues style compared to Dave’s legato stuff. I always make sure Jeff has a whammy bar to play with, so we have a lot of Floyd Rose dives.
“I don’t do that, but I like to hear it in the music. He’s in a category of his own, but it comes more from the ’80s shredders. And then, I have the wah pedal, which fits nicely with my sound because my main influences are the classic hard rock guys like Michael Schenker, Uli Jon Roth, Gary Moore and Frank Marino.”
For your rhythms, you draw from classic thrash in addition to Swedish death metal.
“I think my main influences rhythmically are thrash people like James Hetfield, Dave Mustaine and Slayer. That’s the stuff I grew up on and I love that intensity and that very speedy riffing style. But I also really like Florida death metal guys like Chuck Schuldiner [Death] and Trey Azagthoth [Morbid Angel].
“I’m also influenced by a lot of Judas Priest, Saxon and the other New Wave of British Heavy Metal bands, plus the first few Motörhead records and Accept guitarist Wolf Hoffman. I love a lot of kinds of metal, and I think it all finds its way into the sound of Arch Enemy.”
Did Jeff record any of the rhythm tracks on Deceivers or is that all you?
“I always do them all. I think it works for straight-ahead rock bands to have both guitarists play the rhythms, but this isn’t the Rolling Stones. There’s not that playful interplay between guitarists. It’s more about getting everything really tight. And since I’m writing it, I know exactly how I want it played and sometimes it’s hard to teach that to someone else so it’s as precise as it needs to be on the album.”
Do you write songs one at a time or do you work on multiple pieces simultaneously?
“I always find it really easy to start a song, and then it’s more difficult to wrap it up. You have to come up with the right middle eight, the solo sections, the outro. That’s a lot of stuff that’s got to work together. We usually go into the verse, the pre-chorus, and the chorus and that happens quickly. And we often write a bunch of those before we decide what other parts work in the song. It’s a very emotional process. It’s from-the-heart songwriting. It can’t be a methodical or mechanical thing. For me it’s got to be instinctive and mean something.”
When you hit a creative obstacle, did you ever dip into the riff vault for inspiration?
“No, it was all fresh from the ground up on this record. Daniel also writes music so there are always ideas going around. And I never get tired of playing and playing until something strikes me, so there’s never a shortage of riffs.”
What was the hardest song to play?
“In Sunset Over the Empire, the riff on the verse is a bit demanding. There’s a rapid pattern, and you need a bit of stamina to keep that going.”
Is it ever hard to replicate something onstage that you recorded?
“That happens a lot. I write this stuff and then when we’re rehearsing for the tour, it’s just, ‘Holy shit. What have I done?’ In the studio, I’m sitting down and playing, and it’s very comfortable for me. There’s no pressure. If I make a mistake, I can start again. But then you’ve got to pull all that stuff off live in one take and you’ve got to try to look cool doing it. You can’t look lost or flustered.”
There are more soaring clean vocals and beautiful melodic passages on Deceivers than there were on Will to Power. Is there ever a point where you’re resistant to toning something down too much, or do you like the way the softer parts contrast with the heavier passages?
“I’m very die-hard. I want to keep that metal edge and that heavy vibe, so we don’t experiment with electronic beats and samples and we’re not going to work with pop singers. We don’t hear new bands and get influenced by them to do something more modern.
“When I formed Arch Enemy in 1995, I knew what I wanted to do. There was always an agenda and we’re still on the same path, so the basic formula is the same. The goal now is just to write great songs within the framework of extreme metal and have a lot of melody present, especially in the guitars.”
You were in Carcass in 1993 when the band recorded Heartwork, which is widely considered a breakthrough in melodic death metal.
“I was right there when there was a movement to make death metal more melodic. I’m still proud of what we did on that album and I’m still that simple, stubborn son of a bitch that’s happy doing what I do. I like Depeche Mode, but I don’t ever want Arch Enemy to sound anything like them. I love Jimmy Page, but I don’t want to play like him. I’m pretty happy being me.”
When you worked on Heartwork, did it feel like you were breaking new ground?
“When I was writing This Mortal Coil and Heartwork with [Carcass guitarist] Bill Steer I remember thinking, ‘Shit, Carcass is such a brutal band. I wonder how people are gonna react to this.’ I had never heard any death metal that was that melodic before.
“On Heartwork, we had guitars playing all the harmonies. That had never been done before. Now, it’s commonplace but somebody had to be the first and I think, maybe, that was one of those very first times when that happened. It was pretty cool to be a part of that. Of course, a lot of people who liked early Carcass couldn’t stand that record. They said I ruined the band.”
With Arch Enemy back at full tilt, have you and Sharlee considered working on a new Spiritual Beggars album?
“No, not really. We did our last record, Sunrise to Sundown, in 2016 and right now we have nothing planned. To be honest, it just kind of ran its course. Maybe we haven’t officially split up or anything, but I haven’t really felt inspired to write anything in that style in a long time.”
It sounds like there was a point where you lost interest. Did something happen internally with the band?
“I think it has a lot more to do with Arch Enemy. If I can blame anything for the end of Spiritual Beggars, it’s probably our busy schedule. Arch Enemy has become a much bigger band than it was before. It takes a lot to keep it going and I can’t physically be doing multiple bands anymore.
“But that’s a good thing. I’m not a frustrated guitarist who dreams of doing a solo album so everybody can hear the real me. Because what I do in Arch Enemy is who I am. I get all my energies out with the band. So, this is my real journey.”

Chapter 3: Date(s)
Bucky’s glad he didn’t buy you flowers on the first date. The sneezing fit after walking past the florist to the coffee shop was noted amongst his memories. He made notice of everything about you. Like there was a special file in his brain to remember every detail. You were a mission, but not the kind he was used to. No this was different. And this was important. He did stick to tradition and open the coffee shop door for you. Which caused you to smile and thank him.
“Abuelita!!! The usual?” called out the barista at the register. He was tall, slender, and had short brown hair sticking out from under his hat.
“Yes please, Jason. And whatever he’s having.” Bucky was looking over the small menu. You had chosen a local shop instead of a Starbucks. Their drinks were very different. Lavender? In coffee? Why was 2023 so complicated? Two more patrons had entered behind you. Bucky instinctively took note of them. Two men, twitchy with energy. Maybe from the gym? They had broad builds. There’s a bald one that looks rather calm. But the smaller blonde, he’s nervous about something, looking around wildly.
“Go ahead, guys. I have no idea what I want yet.” Bucky says to them hoping they will just move on. Quickly. He wraps his left arm around you to pull you closer. You hadn’t thought about who might be behind you. This is your usual spot, and it attracts a calm crowd. Usually. The blonde stares at you, and his gaze lingers at your waist. You tuck Bucky’s hand under your sweater but still above your leggings. A gesture he appreciates. Blondie looked like he was about to start a fight. They immediately order. Water for baldie and a caramel latte for blondie.
“Do you drink coffee often?” You ask, turning his attention and focus back to you.
“Yes, but everything is so much sweeter now than I remember. And there are definitely some new combinations on this menu that I’m not familiar with.” He admits.
“I love that it’s eclectic.” There’s that smile again that he loves. “You can always ask them to leave out the sweeteners. The flavorings will have their own too. Or there’s tea.”
“What do you get? What’s “the usual”?”
“Small triple chocolate iced coffee with coconut milk.” Is that slight embarrassment along with the small smile as you give you answer, Bucky wonders. Coconut milk is a new one too for Bucky. He cocks an eyebrow teasingly. “I’m lactose intolerant. You can get something else, and try mine, see what you think?” You suggest, and unknown to each other, you both have taken note of how the men have sat down. You both turn back to Jason.
“The lavender one. With no sweetener or whipped cream, please.” Jason nods. “Coconut milk. To go.” Bucky pays before you can even think about it and suggests that once your drinks are ready you go for a walk. It’s an uncomfortable wait. Even with other patrons enjoying their drinks inside and more arriving the two men that came directly after you have not stopped staring. Luckily Bucky seems ok with the silence between you. His hand is still on your side, under sweater and above leggings, and the circles he rubs with his thumb is soothing. Keeping you grounded until you can leave. Anxiety is creeping up on you as if a spider is crawling up your body. Slowly, tickling its way to the top. Bucky is using all his super soldier senses to keep track of the situation. Your increased breathing. Eyes darting around. Baldie and blondie glaring and listening. Heartbeats quickening.
“Abuelita!!” The other barista calls out, disturbing the tension and calling everyone back to reality.
The walk is uneventful. You let Bucky take you a couple blocks away before suggesting a local park to sit and finish drinking. Bucky notices that the walk to the park takes you back around, full circle from the coffee shop. It’s unlikely the two men will catch up to you unless he’s missed them following you both. He wonders if you did this on purpose or if it’s a happy coincidence. It’s fall, and not too cold yet. Trees at the park have turned yellow, orange, auburn, and beautiful.
You sit at the end of the bench. Snug in the corner by a large tree. Bucky sits close to you, and you have to bite your cheek to hold back a smile.
“Thank you, by the way.” Bucky starts, “For the coffee shop. My, uh, hand, arm….it has some feeling…….I could tell I wasn’t touching your skin. But it’s not the same. But, thanks.”
“You’re welcome. Thank you for sharing.”
“This coffee shouldn’t work but it does.” He frowns but the corners of his mouth turn up. You giggle.
                -------------------------------------------- <3 ------------------------------------------------------
“Then what?!” Torres’ excited shouts ring through your phone. You caught him between meetings with Sam. He usually walks you home on the phone. There’s just usually less exciting things to talk about. You’re glad you haven’t switched to your Bluetooth yet so you can pull the phone away from your ear a little.
“Ouch. Why are you screaming? We went to the record store, and he walked me home.”
“Is that when he kissed you?”
“Tor!!!” You stutter for a second when you look over your shoulder and spot an unwelcome sight. “Tor…Tor, that’s not important right now, but I do need you to keep talking so I can take a covert picture. And I need you to meet me at the coffee shop. Like now.”
“Sure, but I don’t like this new tone, Abuelita. What’s going on?”
                ------------------------------------------ <3 -----------------------------------------------------
“That’s when you kissed her right?” Sam’s poking for information. He has been for some time. Bucky would be irritated but at this point he’s used to Sam. They might even be friends. “You have kissed her right, man? Or was that not the custom back in your day?” Now Bucky’s irritated.
“I’m not that old.”
“Alright, alright, man. Have you noticed that bald guy following us?” Sam asks. He’s been aware of the man behind them for five blocks but just had the opportunity to ask Bucky if he noticed.
“I have noticed him. Not sure why Just glad he’s following us.” Bucky answers. His phone buzzes. He immediately pulls it out. Which Sam takes note of.
“That you’re girlfriend?” Sam fires off. “What’s the weird billboard pic supposed to mean?” He asks when he sees your message. It’s an odd angled picture of a billboard. Below you’ve typed out the phrase “It used to have an add for caramel lattes. Strange right?” Bucky stops dead in his tracks for a second. Because under the billboard is Blondie. You’re both being followed. And he’s underestimated you. The circle around to the park was intentional. How long have these guys been following you? He snaps a picture to send in return. Captioned “Mine only has water. Where are you?”
“It means we have a problem, Sam. Maybe a big problem.”

“Great happy hour drinks and starters. Friendly quick service at Cafe Mambo.”Susan G., October 2022 “I’ve only visited the beautiful island of Maui twice. Once with my wife then again with her family joining. Both times we ate here. I love the fun laidback atmosphere, especially by the window seating. The crispy duck burger was one of the tastiest things I ate on the Island!”Justin G., September 2022 “First family vacation to Maui we had been on the road , just enjoying the beautiful sights on the road to Hana. We stopped in for a late dinner. The people were not only friendly , they also delivered a awesomely good meal. The seared AHI Burger exceeded my expectations, the Hawaiian burger was excellent as well. We’ll definitely be coming back to Cafe Mambo whenever we come back to Maui.”Cecy C., September 2022 “Cute little restaurant with a wide selection of options. The food was presented well and tasted great. The drink selection is very strong as well. I highly recommend this if you are looking for a great meal in a casual atmosphere. Also, please note that it’s easier to get in to Cafe Mambo than the restaurants down the hill. Well worth the short walk!”Kyle C., September 2022 “We went there mid September on a Friday night around 7pm. They closed at 8pm. The had their famed crispy duck fajita and the fresh fish fajita. Both came with an assortment of guacamole, sour cream, tomato sauce, salad etc served on a different plate, along with the fajitas and the duck and fish each on different plates. We loved both! The duck was juicy and crispy; but too oily. The fresh fish unfortunately overcooked. This is a nice , original place to hang. Easy going, great after surfing when hanging out with yiur friend. The staff was super friendly even we were the last guests before closing.Chris I., September 2022 “This restaurant is such a cute little spot to get a casual bite to eat, whether it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner. We chose Cafe Mambo for an early dinner after doing the Road to Hana and were not disappointed. We ordered Onion Rings (with the Curry Sauce), Tofu Nachos, Roast Duck Fajitas. My favorite dish was the Roast Duck Fajitas. Our server mentioned this is what they are known for and I can see why. I loved how they served the fajitas in the unique metal dish for all the ingredients. The Roast Duck had a very nice sweetness to it.Also, take advantage of Happy Hour. We will definitely be visiting this restaurant again (maybe even for breakfast or brunch).”Keith K., February 2021

Enjoy Your Mornings!
Definitive advice on the “Great Transition!”
The column has been a little short lately on adjustments …let’s fix that.
Tumblr media
As I travel this road from educator to happy-go-lucky retiree, it was always the plan that it would chronicle a happy acclimation into a new life. Sometimes you have to be reminded of some super, solid lessons learned. Today’s lesson boys and girls, (I swear I never started any class with that kind of “Leave it to Beaver” line) is something our new adventure has reminded me to do daily, enjoy your mornings. I always try, but sometimes it becomes rote routine.
We are currently living in Granbury, Tx and it is awesome. Rugged, wide open landscapes …without a pine tree in sight. The town is small, but has a vibrant, active town square. This element has always been a big part of small town Texas; regrettably, far too many town squares have drifted into obsolescence as freeways and interstates have drawn the growth away. Not in Granbury. It is home to one of the major necessities of enjoying a marvelous morning for the recent retiree: a quaint, comfortable coffee shop. Not coffee made at home, which is a damn fine way to start the day. Finding a relaxing place to have coffee where you fit in and where occasional conversation is an early morning balm to the soul. When starting the day it’s good to get out of the house and to be active in the morning. The usual things like taking a jog are not likely for a guy with a knee replacement, but I can take a brisk walk to my favorite coffee shop.
Obviously, great coffee is THE major factor on selecting a great morning stop, but other considerations come into play. Does the shop have a quiet place to read? Are there a tasty selection of muffins? Is the music being played to your liking? Is the staff inviting and friendly? Do other folks come to write and read? Is a good conversation just a table away? Aannnnddd, is the coffee slightly above to well above average in flavor? If you can get all of these, then the odds of enjoying your morning just fell in your favor.
Remember all those decades of mornings before the work day started, when you awoke and contemplated calling in sick? Remember the ever present anxiety of being late to work? Remember you forcing a lukewarm liquid down your throat so that you could be ready to work? That ain’t no way to start the day. I have to go with Simon and Garfunkel’s instructions for handling your morning:
Slow down, you move too fast; You got to make your morning last*
This time is finally yours and all that hippie stuff you’d heard for years about the magic of the morning …it’s true! It’s a damn fine way to start the day…to get up early for you not a time clock. Birds do sing, the breeze feels fresh and the morning is bright and shining. AND the coffee is fresh and there is good conversation to be had.
Some of the landmark coffee shops that have made the grade: Nine Flags Fire Roasted Coffee Nacogdoches, Tx. Exotic, imported coffee fire roasted in a brick oven out back. Eccentric characters with which to converse. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Sadly, Nine Flags was a Covid casualty, but one thought remains: who the hell got the oven? La Bibliotecha Coffee Nacogdoches, Tx. Great setting, creative menu selections, outdoor sitting area. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The shop operated out of a food truck and thus moved on down the road. Java Jacks, Nacogdoches, Tx. Lots of activity, great coffee selection. ⭐️⭐️⭐️. The Tamp and Grind, Alexandria, La. Absolutely, eclectic artist, writer inspired coffee joint. Great staff, awesome selection, cool patrons…feels like walking into a studio.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Paradise Bistro & Coffee Co., Granbury, Tx. On the square, great coffee, nice place to write, read or shoot the bull. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Remember, I said it was a given that the coffee was above average. Take your time, smell the coffee, drink it and make a friend. The day will always start great.

JATP Mall!AU
Hey guys, I was inspired by my old, unfinished Sky High AU where the characters were just teenagers working the mall during the summer and I thought the premise I came up with it would be super cool for another Juke/Williex AU.
The characters of JATP but they all work in different stores in the mall.
I originally had it be Magenta and Warren working the book store, but I can’t see Julie working a book store.
So let’s say Julie would be working at like one of those ‘Color Me Mine’ places, helping people make pottery and get creative with their crafts.
She’s always been somewhat of an artist, and she definitely would be the last to leave and close up, blasting the speakers with her playlist, singing and dancing around as she cleans.
But she doesn’t do this as much anymore because that cute guy from the music store, the one who wears the cutoffs, caught her doing this one night and she’s been too embarrassed to face him ever since.
Luke would obviously work at the music store with Mrs. Harrison as his manager.
Let’s say Bobby works there too, but he’s a bit more critical of customer’s music taste, while Luke on the other hand has a bit more of an eclectic taste and would be down to help any one find what they’re looking for. And he’s got the perfect view of the cute pottery girl who always sits at the same bench during her break...
Reggie would work at the pizza place because it’s his one true love (besides music of course).
Although they don’t serve deep dish pizza, no matter how many times Flynn begs his manager to work it into the menu. As if they had the power to change it... He does hook his friends up with a free drink with their order.
Alex would work at a book store.
He could not handle how busy retail or food service would get on some days, but at least the book store is quiet and calm. He’ll be able to read his favorites while waiting for customers. Also you can’t beat the view of the skate shop across the way, and Alex can’t help but sneak glances at the cute guy who works there.
Flynn would work in retail, maybe something like Abercrombie or Forever 21.
She would be the employee to oh so subtly challenge your fashion comfort zones and she would give her honest opinion if you ask her. She would give her friends her discount every time. She’s dying to switch off to go to work at Hot Topic tho the first chance she gets.
Carrie would work in makeup, like Sephora.
She would be insanely good at her job and have zero patience when helping train new people. She’s the kind of employee that lays her customer service smile a little too thick but would whirl around and bad mouth them behind her back to the other employees.
Willie would work the skate shop.
He would get in trouble with mall security a lot for boarding on his way to work. But he’s been totally careful! It was just the one time when he was in a hurry to make his shift that he may skated into that cutie that worked the bookstore, knocking him down and ruining the Wetzel Pretzel hot dog that he was holding... But it was sort of worth it.
And some quick ones:
Nick- frozen yogurt or the Apple Store (since he helped Julie with her hologram problem on the show, it would be cool if he was techy).
Kayla- sportswear, but more yoga pants like Lululemon or Fabletics (do they have a store?)
Caleb- either suits department of Nordstrom or he runs the whole mall, and he’s sort of like a villain because he detests the same group of teenagers that seem to cause all kind of antics and problems for him...(ahem everyone mentioned above).
This is what I got so far, but my premise is just random wacky schemes everyone gets up to while working the mall but is centered around Juke and Willex as the ships, and maybe some side pairings along the way.
