I'm new to Codywan. Doyou have a list of Must Reads or Fandom Classics or anything like that? (Bonus points for longfic!)

Funnily enough, I'm not sure I'm an expert on Fandom Classics, but I do think that the long Clone Wars rewrites/fix-its are a perfect way to start! (And then you can move on to shorter fics and crazy AUs haha) So these are all longer, and can be fit into TCW continuity, even if they diverge at some point because the writers can't help themselves and will fix canon (as they should).

in our hearts some ancient song by whimsicalimages (@keensers)- Fives discovers the chips, he's on the run and gambles his life on the assumption that there's something going on between Cody and his general, so they would help him. Some amazing lore in this fic. 40k words

Golden Shield of Brightness by NerJetii (@nerjetii)- Soulmate AU, your soulmates' (romantic and platonic) names are written on your wrists. "Only" 15k, but I would recommend it even if you're not a fan of soulmate AUs (=they don't fall into each other's arms just because they're soulmates). Focuses on Obi-Wan, mostly, but we also learn a bit about how the Kaminoans treated the clones.

I am teaching myself how to be free by tattooedgreenhouse (@gershwyndl) - this might be THE Clone Wars rewrite for me because the author has taken upon themselves to literally retell the whole series from Cody's AND Obi-Wan's POV. It's ambitious, I'm pretty sure it's technically canon compliant, but we do get our happy ending. Appropriately, it's 113k long.

i'll orbit your flickering star by sunskippa (@sunskippa) - Also a Clone Wars rewrite (by this I mean that it goes through the events of the series from Cody's POV), also canon compliant, 78k words. Might be my favourite ending in the genre, beautiful. I don't even know how to sell this, but it's a must-read imo

|to failure sweet victor| by littlekaracan (@cillyscribbles)- 20k words. In case you've read all those rewrites and you just want to skip to the part where Cody leaves the Empire and they find each other again on Tatooine *with a twist*

you read my mind, I'll read yours series by sospes - This is very much canon divergent. Starts off as a mission fic, Cody and Obi-Wan discover an artefact that creates a Force-bond between them. Misunderstandings ensue. Look at the tags/ratings, some of the works later on are spicier/angstier. But you could also read the first one and call it a day if those aren't your jam. (The whole thing is 166k long at the moment.)

will you be an anarchist with me? by a_alene (@birdiedoessw) - an outsider POV (Rex's) on Cody's and Obi-Wan's relationship. With the extra twist that they can't stand each other at the beginning of the war. This is something I would've loved to read when I was getting into codywan, it's a great way to start. (25k words)

shoulder the sky series by Night Fury (@shootingstarpilot) - Last but not least, an ongoing series (all but two works are finished, more than 200k words atm). You'll have to "get through" the first work to read the more codywan-focused fics (and I don't mean this in a bad way because the story is a m a z i n g. Just so you know.) To be honest, I think it might be a bit confusing to read at the moment because as far as I can see a work was removed from the series, but it's still up? I'm not sure what happened there, but I suppose you could simply read all the author's works in chronological order :D This series is pretty much Obi-Wan AND clone troopers focused and relies a lot on the Jedi Apprentice series (which isn't canon anymore) but you're gonna be fine if you haven't read it.

Hi I've been reading a lot of long Codywan fanfics and adding them to storygraph when I finish them so I wanted to make a masterlist so other ppl can read them and include them in their storygraph for this year because fanfiction is reading and you should never feel like you can't include 50k+ word fanfiction in your reading goal for this year.

Obviously the number of pages is pretty subjective so if u wanna add a new edition in order to make it fit with how many pages you would expect for the word count that seems like a good solution.

do you personally make any groupings or distinctions between parts of your religion that just are the religion, and parts that you think are maybe there because the church was once in charge of providing a lot of its societies’ structures? And if you do, does that trickle into more/less severe heresies when those rules are broken

sorry if you’ve already discussed somewhere, or if that doesn’t make sense, but I’m always curious to hear people’s thoughts on this

I’ll start with the first part. I like that there is an answer and structure for everything. If you had given me a Bible and told me to only follow the rules in it, I feel a lot of those biblical stories don’t perfectly align with the modern era. The Church provides a guide since it is composed of human beings who live in the same times as us.

Severe heresies? I think all heretical sayings are severe. There’s obviously a difference between true heresy and a little off color joke if that’s what you mean.

I haven’t discussed this yet, but even if I had it’s interesting. I like being asked these sorts of questions because I would’ve never thought of them myself. I sometimes get an ask and pour over all my Catholic literature to figure out the answer and that’s fun for me. It’s like investigative journalism.

Always in motion is the future by arrowupmysleeve: (G) I love Obi-Wan inserting himself in Mandalorian business, you love Obi-Wan inserting himself in Mandalorian business - this is a fixit for the whole Galidraan disaster, featuring Padawan!Obi and bestest space buir!Jaster Mereel. It's eventual jangobi, and also a series, and the second part is in progress.

The Weeds in the Wilderness by ealcynn : (T) This one is a WIP as I publish this post, but I still would recommend you give it a go. It has such great worldbuilding, and such an interesting cast of OCs - it's Obi-Wan who doesn't remember who he is, stuck on a planet full of strangers as he tries to remember himself. No ship, just vibes.

For the Right Price by ShaeTiann: (M) This is the Epic. The long read you should try. If you're on the fence about Sith!Obi or Grey!Obi, then I think this fic will probably do a good job at convincing you of the appeal. This is Obi-Wan toeing the line between Light and Dark, making friends, falling in love, making his own path. It's a jangobi masterpiece, who also happens to be a series in progress.

An Elegant Weapon by RomanMoray: (T) Cody wielding a saber. Must I say more? This is codywan, and very dear to my heart. Featuring a Force-sensitive Cody, the inherent eroticism of training your commander in the arts of lightsaber combat, and Cody picking up Obi-Wan's saber - and his heart.

dark magics by savorvrymoment: (E) Oh, so you like both Maul and spicy times? I have just the fic for you: this is a wonderful work, which happened to be my intro into the Obi/Maul rarepair hell. It's got the perfect amount of angst, the perfect amount of tension. Truly perfect.

Don’t be afraid. by spqr: (T) THE FEELS. It's a burgeoning obikin with all the angst, feat. Padawan!Obi and Master!Anakin. Gorgeous, with the fluffy ending we all deserve. A re-read for sure.

i'll orbit your flickering star by sunskippa: (T) If you're looking for a longer codywan read, look no further! This is a great fic that follows the Clone Wars events through the eyes of our dearest Commander, as he falls in love with Obi-Wan. They way Cody is written is lovely: It has no flaw in my eyes.

diogenes (what makes a man?) by someawkwardprose: (T) Codywan, again, because I am in codywan brainrot, always. Also a very, very lovely portrayal of Cody. Also a retelling of the Clone Wars events through Cody's eyes, including his love for his General. I've recently re-read this, and Gods, it's good.

Binary System by Cimila: (E) You know these Open/Ambiguous endings that are somehow both incredibly satisfying and also leaves you just craving some more? Yeah? This is it - Soulmates AU, jangobi, Obi-Wan in the desert with baby!Anakin in tow. It's great. Also Spicy.

Late Night Bounty Call by eltrut07: (E) a/b/o jangobi, anyone? This is a WIP as I'm making this post, but it's being updated still! It's got Omega!Obi and Alpha!Jango hooking up (and falling in love, probably - eventually) during the Clone Wars, and baby Boba being confused. Lovely, lovely - and also spicy.

Honestly anything by glimmerglanger, though especially:

Make Your Bed (Lie in It): (T) Codywan, featuring Cody ending up in his General's bed and Vice-Versa, through the Clone Wars and beyond Order 66.

Currents and Tides: (E) MERPEOPLE! FORBBIDEN LOVE! THE 1940s! It's a codywan two-parter with plenty of snippets attached, and it is a masterpiece.

A Slow Fall Towards Grace: (E) a/b/o, endgame codywan: the angst, the eventual fluff, Obi and his kids. It's rough sometimes, guys, but it ends well.

I will stan this fic on the basis of Cody explicitly saying that he's not Mandalorian in the second part ALONE but the rest of it is also exceptional. Post-war fixit-ish.

Master and apprentice are held captive. Obi-Wan is drugged, and unable to differentiate the past, present and future. Qui-Gon is a little shocked when rescue comes in the form of a figure from his own past: Dooku. The trip back to Coruscant is full of unexpected moments and emotions.

I have a weakness for getting all these assholes in the same room. Also points for flawed but sympathetic Qui-Gon.

A Duel with Fate by psocoptera

The re-lived day is one of the strangest mysteries of the Jedi: a passage in a Jedi's life when the Force knots Time itself around their individual consciousness, allowing them to revise and repeat their actions until harmony with the Force is achieved.

VERY fun take on the Groundhog Day trope, reimagining it as a known Force phenomenon.

Several nights of bombardment later, the Council sends Obi-Wan Kenobi with Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano to uncover the reason behind these consistent attacks, while defending the outpost from the Nikto clan's ranged assaults. Ahsoka teams up with local Twi'lek allies from Florrum's northern capital to gather information, while Anakin and Obi-Wan stand by at the outpost to prevent further damage. The Sand Wraiths, however, don't let things go quite as smoothly as planned.

All Cody wanted from the Jedi was a competent, fair general; one who would allow him to focus on keeping his men safe, and maybe trying to live up to the name Jango Fett bestowed on him.

Nothing could have prepared him for Kenobi save for the experience itself: crashing across the galaxy, from insane caf-and-stims-fueled battlefield highs, to heady fluorescent ship-side lows.

But then, he supposes, this war had a habit of exceeding his expectations, in all the best and worst ways. This is that story through Cody's eyes.

Really solid Cody characterization.

I’ll Orbit Your Flickering Star by sunskippa - I honestly cannot scream enough about how much I love this! It follows along with the war from Cody’s pov and there are so many incredible scenes I can’t even begin to describe them all. Highly recommended!

Obi-Wan “The Therapist” Kenobi and How He Changed Everything by RobinPlaysTrumpet15 - Lots of vignettes from the war, featuring a variety of characters. Some angst but also lots of clone & Jedi feels.

Dominoes by @meridianpony - This fic blows my mind. The premise is that the boys of Domino Squad - Fives, Echo, Hevy, Droidbait, and Cutup - go through what happens in canon, then they all wake up back on Kamino as cadets about to ship out. The catch is that they all remember their “past” lives. And then they set about trying to change things. Meridianpony is suuuuuch an amazingly skilled writer, and that shows in the plot as well as the character development and interactions. Just - ugh! *chef’s kiss* It’s already very long, and once I started reading it I couldn’t put it down until I had caught up.

A Million Little Battles by minigami - A really fantastic Codywan series! The author is so good at filling each scene with this... Quiet intensity that's hard to describe but incredible to read!
