I am sitting on the mother of all WIPs rn and cannot talk about it so for STS this week I want to know about what you guys are up to!
Reblog this and share what you’re excited about this week! (An excerpt, a bit of world-building, new OCs—anything goes!)

Happy Storyteller Saturday! This is your invitation to share a little bit of information that exists in your head about one of your characters but that doesn't get mentioned in the book itself 💜
Ohh, thank you. ^.^
That is a difficult one. I tend to stuff as much as I can in there, or allude to it.
But there is one thing that just plain doesn't come up (but might in the series with modern buildings getting awfully tall and airplanes being a thing) which is that Lucient is afraid of heights.
It is a death he's not experienced and one he'd rather not, ever, so you can keep your terrifying skyscrapers and metal birds far from him, thank you.

Happy Storyteller Saturday!
When you finish a first draft, how does it look? Is it readable or does it have more holes than a swiss cheese? What are your next steps, and how much changes?
(If you haven't finished one yet, what do you think how it'll look when you get there?)
Happy Storyteller... Sunday? (:
(Sorry for the late answer!)
Usually, my first drafts are very messy but readable. I may skip a few scenes, or add quick notes instead - what I know the characters need to do, or what I don't know they are going to do, so that I can figure it out later. After finishing a draft I usually take the time to try and write in some of those skipped scenes, do a bit of editing to polish off the writing for the second draft, think of what went "wrong" or what I really enjoyed about certain scenes, or just like, erase whole chunks of the story that don't work anymore and think about what scenes could take their place, that sort of thing!
Then, depending on how I feel about the final version of this first draft, I may set it aside for a while and start some other WIPs (a hiatus, so to speak, to let the ideas for the next draft rest and develop, so that I can come back to it some months later with a fresh mind. For example, my WIP The Last Wrath is in that kind of hiatus rn!), or - if I'm really, really full of ideas and excited to write this next draft - I just move onto the second draft. (:

Can't remember if I've asked you yet (I have the memory of a goldfish) but it's STS time!
What's the solar system like in your setting? Anything funky? If not, do people have any cool myths about constellations or celestial bodies?
Have a wonderful day <3
This is going to be a long post, sorry about that. A lot of this is information from way back when I first created this blog, though the information has been updated.
This is an explanation for the Creation, Cosmology, and some of the Races of my WIP. Lots of Worldbuilding nonsense if that's what y'all like.
Ask questions, if y'all want!
The Universe of the Testaments
Tumblr media
Pictured Above: An Approximation of the Solar System of Kobani. Kobani is signified by the Green dot. Note that this is by no means at scale and the 5 planets of the solar system should have far wider orbits and should be far smaller in comparison to the central star.
Understanding the Cosmological makeup and function of the universe in which Kobani resides requires that one first understand the magical and divine aspects of the universe and its ultimate creation. For the purposes of this post I will be using the terms used in the Kishic faith to describe the mechanics of the universe.
Most of what humans know about the greater universe and its magical elements come from the testimony of spirits and other ancient beings including the Dragon, Ilhumba, The Storyteller. (I will probably give more details about Ilhumba in a later post, suffice to say that Ilhumba is responsible for many of the myths and religions of Kobani but also for most of the terrible things)
Continues below the cut!
The River of Creation, The First Ones, and The Heavenly Gods
The Universe (in truth a conglomeration of distinct dimensions/mini-universes clustered around a singular point) exists within a torrent of cosmic creation, The River of Creation.
The River, known by the people of Kishetal as the Shobiash, has always flowed through the Endless Void that is the Chaotic Nothing, its source and its end, if they exist, are only be known by those beings who wander its far shores. The greatest of them are Law and End, who oversee that which is, that which will be, and that which must be.
The River is all, it is existence, matter, energy, and time. All mortal things are born from the River, and all mortal things one day return to it. Worlds, universes, pantheons, they have emerged and sunk back into the golden eddies. The current universe, that of Kobani and the other celestial spheres emerged in the same way and will, in time, return. There are countless universes doting and permeating the River. The Universe of the Testament can be considered just one of these universes, a fragile island in the torrent.
The separation of the Testament Universe into distinct dimensions was instrumented by the first set of "Gods" to emerge from the cosmic current and inhabit that particular universe. They constructed and shaped these dimensions around a singularity, which allowed for these places to be connected while also existing in their own space and time. There are 13 distinct dimensions, each with their own countless stars, planets, etc.
These First Gods would then return to their River, their fate unknown, whether they merely melted back into the current or journeyed to a different universe. What is known is that, they left in their wake offspring, beings born of a mixture of the Cosmic chaos and Universal "Scraps." These would become the Heavenly Gods.
The Heavenly Gods are the arbiters and keepers of order and natural law, most notably the Awakened cycle of reincarnation and the proliferation of life on the mortal and spiritual worlds (this will be explained further below). Gods cannot die except by their essence being forcibly returned to the Great River or with the ending of the Universe. The appearance and even number of gods are in constant flux as a god, through choice or circumstance, may split into multiple entities or else recombine into a greater entity. However, their essence and soul are static. As an example, a god such as Fepacha may simultaneously be seven beings while still being of one essence and soul. This is part of why so many gods appear in various religions across Kobani.
The sheer magical energy which radiates from these beings when in their whole forms is intensely powerful; most of the lingering “wild magic” in Kobani is the result of multiple gods visiting the planet while in their whole forms. As a result, the gods rarely venture outside of their spheres and take little interest in the matters of mortals, with a few exceptions.
The Gods inhabit the singularity, and domain which lies within it, which is itself shrouded by the central star or sun of these dimensions and their solar systems. Thus the gods of Kobani in some sense reside within the sun.
The Awakened Cycle of Reincarnation
The Awakened is a term used to refer to the five races which stem from a singular primitive species which developed and evolved naturally on Kobani. Similar occurrences happened in the other worlds as well. These primitive beings were exposed to powerful magic by the gods and, in addition, were given mortal souls that could not only continue the process of reincarnation through the mortal worlds as all living things do, but could now permit for the soul to ascend out of the mortal worlds, with soul or 'het', being reincarnated a number of times before coming to inhabit the world of the gods. It is not entirely clear why the gods created the awakened races, though it is believed that mortals in time come to serve the gods with the collective experience of several lifetimes. How many lives a het will experience before this time varies, though typically a soul will reincarnate at least 7 times, thus explaining Kishic mythology.
The Awakened Races of Kobani
(Any of the groups below which is exposed to and drastically changed by magic is referred to a forestfolk, though most typically the term forestfolk is referencing groups descended from magically altered humans.)
Humans: The most populous of the awakened, incapable of using magic themselves but capable of communication with spirits. Humans are also unique in their ability to produce offspring with spirits which are known as Spiritbloods, or more inaccurately Demigods. Those humans which can communicate with spirits naturally and use channel spirit magic are known as sages and seers.
Giants: Massive humanoid beings, like humans, they are incapable of using magic themselves; however, much like a Spiritblood, their physical form is supported by magic, allowing for their bodies to reach massive sizes without the biological or physical limits and drawbacks which should affect them. After the Calamity, giants are rare and much reduced in size, though they are still far larger than the typical human. Giants are never born as sages, and are typically unable to commune with spirits except via the use of magical potions and herbs.
The Hillfolk: Small fur-covered beings naturally capable of minor magic (true magic, not sagecraft). The Hillfolk were once a numerous nomadic race that roamed Kobani, but their numbers were greatly reduced by human oppression and then the Calamity. A few small bands still exist, but they are typically confused for forestfolk.
The Stonefolk: About human-sized but broader with larger eyes and powerful arms, well suited to their preferred underground environment. The stonefolk were the only group that regularly interbred with humans, and indeed they were eventually bred out of existence. All modern humans of Kobani have some stonefolk ancestry, as a result the humans of the post-calamity era are typically shorter and broader than their ancient counterparts.
The Forest Tenders: Slender and tall green-skinned beings. The Forest Tenders, as their name suggests, preferred the forest and often dedicated themselves to its care. Though the most magically capable race, their child-like intellect and emotional capacity largely limited the Forest Tenders from expanding past their groves and forests. The Forest Tenders were annihilated by humans and stonefolk prior to the Calamity and are now extinct.
Note that these examples are just on Kobani, each world has their own array of awakened races, and some may only have one. Some dimensions may have multiple worlds containing awakened species. Not all planets inhabited by Awakened peoples are in the same solar systems as the Singularity, though most, like Kobani, are. A mortal does not need to reincarnate into the same species so long as it is sapient, and except for in rare occasions when the soul is reincarnated on the same world, they won't.
Unlike the Unawakened, these new beings, the Awakened, would retain their memories and experiences as they reincarnated. However, such memories would become dormant until reaching the worlds of the Gods, where a soul would then become the amalgamation of all of its past lives and experiences.
The exception, it seems, comes from the judgment given by the Deity of Death. If a lifetime is considered wicked or undeserving, or if the soul wishes to forget that lifetime, they could be born again in the same world as the previous life, with their past experiences in that world vanishing from their collective soul. Upon a being’s death and after being judged, the soul is transported to the next world in the cycle and given new life. As a result, a sudden increase in deaths in one world will inevitably lead to a burst in new births in the other worlds.
As such certain actions, such as the destruction of souls by humans before the Calamity, can have drastic effects on other worlds, and indeed a single war or similar event may have rippling effects through all of the mortal worlds.
Not all souls will follow the same path or go through worlds in the same order. While the people of Kishetal believe that souls are first born or created on Kobani, this is not necessarily true and a soul may begin its journey on any of the four mortal worlds.
Animals and plants may only reincarnate within the mortal worlds. Should a spirit be killed it will reincarnate on the world on which they were first created and may then travel to other worlds via the singularity or through various other tears and bends in the dimensions. Unlike mortal beings, a spirit will retain its personality and most of its memories upon reincarnation. A spirit cannot reincarnate into a mortal and a mortal can not become a spirit. There are certain worlds which lack sentient species but do contain spirits. Stories of these worlds from spirits, is the origin of the Kishic concept of the "spirit world(s)."
Spiritbloods, though the product of hybridization with humans and spirits, reincarnate in the same way as normal mortals, and a spiritblood does not need to reincarnate as a spiritblood.
The Cosmology of the Solar System of Kobani: Myth and Reality
Tumblr media
Pictured Above: The Kishic Conception of the Cycle of Reincarnation. Green planets in the outer ring are the mortal worlds, blue planets in the middle ring are spirit worlds, and the golden planets alongside the star, Re, are the worlds of the Gods.
The people of most of Kobani’s cultures are under the impression that the other worlds all exist in the same solar system, though of course this is not actually the case.
The Kishic conception of the solar system
It is a common belief in Kishetal that the solar system, which they believe holds all worlds in the cycle of reincarnation, consists of three Great Walls, which separate the disparate worlds from each other.
Devami: The Wall separating the First Realm; home of the four mortal worlds, Kobani, Sebani, Robani, and Mobani; from the rest of the universe. Note: Ko, Se, Ro, and Mo originate from an archaic form of Shabalic. Each refers to a time of day; Kosa: Morning, Sesa: Noon, Rosu: Evening, and Mosa: Night. These terms have largely fallen out of use in Kishetal and only exist in compound words. Bani is the Kishic word for world or planet. Ami originates from the Shabalic word for wall, Amiha. Dev comes from a Kishic word for other or foreigner.
Bisami: The Wall separating the First Realm from the Second or Spirit Realm, home to the 4 spirit worlds, Kobashi, Sebashi, Robashi, and Mobashi. Bashi originates from the Kishic word for spirit, babashi.
Shinami: The Wall separating the Second Realm from the Third Realm, Home of the Noble Gods and its four worlds, Kochani, Sechani, Rochani, and Mochani. Chani originates from the Shabalic word for god: Chan (Chani pl.) The Kishic equivalent to this is Kan (Kani pl.)
The Actual Solar System of Kobani
Tumblr media
The Actual solar system of Kobani consists of 5 planets, each with its own satellites. The closest planet to the star, Re, and the smallest, is known by the people of Kishetal as Sebani; the second farthest planet is referred to as Robani; and the planet which lies beyond Kobani is called Mobani. There is a fifth planet and, beyond it, several dwarf planets that are unknown to the people of Kobani. Beyond that still is an extensive asteroid belt. Kobani is largely protected from asteroids by the Unknown planet and Mobani, though there have been instances in Kobani’s ancient past where the planet has been struck.
The Unknown planet and Mobani are both primarily formed from gasses, while the three interior planets are rocky. Kobani is the only planet in that solar system with life. Kobani’s satellite, known in Kishic as Son, is the largest moon in the solar system.

Happy STS! Do you associate your MCs with any specific songs?
This is gonna be a short answer but I don’t have a very deep answer lmao
I don’t usually associate songs with specific characters, I do often think of Arsioly when I hear COLOSSAL CONFLICT by Lil Darkie though
I also associate the songs Katyusha and Smuglianka (specifically the Red Army Choir versions) with Biting the Bullet as a whole and I’d like to sincerely apologize for that 💀 I wish I had a better explanation but the entire reason is that I feel like Kristalyc nationalist propaganda songs would have the vibe of those songs and I keep imagining rebel soldiers singing them in terrible mocking accents while trying not to laugh

Happy STS!
Which on of your OCs do you most relate to and which one do you wish you could emulate more?
Dude, thanks for the ask! I probably most relate to poor Doctor Pertwee. Like him, I've already had most of the "adventures" that any one person could ever need or want, and I'm trying to settle down into something quiet and relaxed. And when a younger person in my sphere starts having adventures that they're not ready for, it's now my job to try to help them survive that. As for which one I'd like to emulate more? Billy. Billy Jameson, who minds his own business on a farm so far out in the backwoods that if you don't know where he already is, you'll NEVER find him. He grows his veggies, pets his livestock and his dog, and smokes his weed. That's a life I'd like, you know?

Happy STS! What was the first part of your world, not necessarily your characters, that you started worldbuilding?
I guess I have sort of two answers for this. One of the first things I came up with in my setting is the Trench - a vast network of underwater caverns that serves as a prison for Illaros's unkillable problems and bloodiest criminals who deserve worse than death. I based it off a mobile game I played a lot when I was younger.
Another thing I came up with concurrently was what would eventually become the Republic province of Skolan. I had a crazy dream about being a wizard apprentice and watching my master die in a duel, and I thought this was a good enough plotline to base a story around. I didn't really know how to tell a story yet, so that combined with all the quarantine free time led to a lot of worldbuilding.
Skolan went from kingdom to province, which would eventually connect with the sea that covered the Trench, until all those little fragments turned into Illaros. It was only once all that was done that I started on characters.
I still have a thick notebook full of a few hundred pages of worldbuilding. I've changed some of it over time, but the core stuff is all in there.
Thanks for the ask :)

happy storyteller saturday!
do you find that there are certain themes, tropes, or motifs that tend to come up in your projects? are they intentional, or do they more show up on their own?
Happy STS on monday, Saran!
Uhh, hmm. Very little of my writing is done with purpose, aside from the purpose of telling the oc's story (and maybe slipping in some torture... *ahem*)
That being said, I like to write with at least two MC's. I write with a certain relationship or goal of a relationship (in whatever form that might take) in mind, be it central or secondary to the plot... if I have one lol.
So far, everything I've written deals with captivity in some form, and although I generally take that literally (:D), you could also argue that one or more oc's are held captive by their own fears, pasts, traumas, etc. Breaking free of physical bars isn't the same as breaking free of the mental ones, and I do like to explore that. Angstily. (yeah, i think i made up a word there, oh well XD)

What does a first draft look like for you? What changes do you make between a first and second, or second and third (etc) draft? How much does your WIP change between each draft?
I'm sorry I took so long to reply!!!! I had a draft of the answer typed up 3 times and kept deleting it on accident!!!!!!
Technically, it's Saturday today. Just not the Saturday you asked this on, or even remotely close.
I'm currently writing a first draft, so I can say that it's kind of a brainrot-fueled obsession with a WIP that dies down once The Beast (aka the story) is satisfied. Idk how but I never write casually. I either do not write or write NaNo levels of wordcount every month or two until it's over. The 1st chapter of "Black and White" was written in two days and it is genuinely bigger than most of my multi-chapter fics. Wtf.
On what changed from draft to draft, I'd say that I usually rewrite some scenes but mostly leave the structure of the plot. My biggest concern is usually the pacing in a 2nd draft, but this may change in "Devourer of Souls" because I no longer feel the need to infodump and there's nothing really holding up the pacing. It's gonna be a new experience, idk. I usually also develop characters and make them more consistent, along with foreshadowing stuff I came up with halfway through.

What is your favourite genre to read? Is it the same as your favourite genre to write?
What subgenres within that genre are your favourite to read? Are they the same ones you like to write?
Happy STS!
My favorite genre to read and write is fantasy. Within it, I like dark fantasy and high fantasy. I’ve only written dark fantasy because high fantasy can be a lot to keep track of!

Happy Storyteller Saturday! What is one (not plot-relevant) thing your OCs need?
Happy STS!
I think the Tomb of Light gang desperately needs a vacation to somewhere warm and sunny, or a big group hug. That’s a little plot relevant but mostly they’re all just sad, lonely weirdos who need friends.

Happy STS! You asked me this yesterday, so I'm going to get you back; are there any fun swears in your world? Or any otherwise innocuous customs that are considered rude in certain parts of the world?
There are many different curses and swears, however for the interest of brevity, I will be focusing just on a few used around the southwestern shores of Lake Shebali in the land of Kishetal, more specifically the area around Labisa, homeland of Ninma, Narul, Zatar, Suru, etc etc.
This will in essence just be a list of insults and swears and their appropriate uses within Kishite society.
Note that insults and swears are different from curses, which are specifically meant to elicit harm through some sort of ritual. While most curses are mere superstition, with the proper funds and access to sagecraft, certain curses may actually provide the desired effect. As a result, "cursing" or other forms of dark magic are strictly banned within Labisa, though this has not stopped the proliferation of underground "curse mongers". An example of a curse: hum akir shukalaf tiwaz kadaf er akir tatunuf alpanunuf (hoom /ahk-eer/ shoo-kah-lahf / tee-wahz /kah-dahf/ er /ahk-eer/ taht-oon-oof/ ahl-pah-noo-noof) May his spear be broken and his arrows dull A fairly common curse, usually carved on things like broken pottery, meant to cause impotence.
Before you continue reading CONTENT WARNING: PROFANITY AND ADULT REFERENCES YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
To keep this short I will only address the words Tuk, Sush, and Balka with a few variations (though certainly not all) as well as a couple of rude gestures and some random swear words:
Tuk/Tuki/Tukut: Fuck/ Fucking/Fucker (specifically in an animalistic or barbaric manner)
Shabalic origin, identical to that used in Shabala. Seshit/Seshiti is the more polite/proper way of saying this
Tukipahut: Father-fucker (more accurately "daddy" fucker, paha being the diminutive version of pa or father. This particular insult is typically used in reference to people who are spoiled, rich, or bratty, in some sense it can be thought of as a nepotee, someone that relies on a more powerful relative or partner.)
Tukimahut: Mother-fucker (similar to above, though without the nepotism angle, typically much more generally used)
Tukikihut: Child-fucker (The reverse of Tukipahut, an insult applied to nepotists, those that favor their own children. Can also be used in the more literal sense.)
Tukizubut: Pig-Fucker (A filthy or disgusting person, pervert, or literally what it means. Pig, Zubu, is a popular insult itself and is interchangeable with the word Balka below)
Tukijabut: Sheep-Fucker (derogative word for people that do not live in cities/ "hillbilly")
Tukisaramukut: Butter-Fucker (Specifically used in reference of Makurians and Kishites who live on the other side of the mountains, this is the even more insulting version of Ukishut Saramuk "butter eater")
Naholitukut: Dead Fucker (Literally a fucker that is dead, when written or spoken as a single word this is used to refer to someone that is impotent or otherwise unable to perform thus "dead")
Tukwa Dab/ Tukwa Dabub: Fuck you / Fuck yourself
Sush/Sushi/Sushut: Shit/Shitting/Shitter (Specifically human)
Shabalic origin. Duz/Duzi is the more polite way of saying this
Ukishut Sushub/Ukisush: Eater of Shit (A general insult, a disgusting person, a jerk)
Ukishwa Sush!: Eat shit
Akkut Sushub/Akksush: Speaker of Shit (A particularly vulgar way of saying "liar")
Mishuzut Sushub/Misusush: Kisser of Shit (A suck-up, sycophant)
Pabakazut Sushub/Pabsush: Hunter of Shit (A poor person, someone who digs through refuse on the street for scraps or other valuables)
Balka- Dog (unwanted, feral, dirty, not quite equivalent to the English use of the word bitch closer to something like mutt.)
Shabalic origin. Kuba is the polite equivalent.
Balka-Duwushut: Stupid Dog (Someone that is uneducated and typically poor, the more vulgar version calling someone Duwushut/Duwush: Stupid)
Balka-Maluwut: Dirty/Filthy Dog (What it sounds like)
Ushbalkut: Dog food (Typically used to refer to an enemy, someone that is going to be killed and thus "eaten by dogs" this can also be used as a threat or a curse)
Sushbalkut: Dog shit (a nuisance, an annoying person)
Kip Balkub: Child of a dog (What it sounds like, when Balkub is replaced with Zubub, thus Child of a pig, this is used to mean, bastard)
Random Swears/Insults
Kunpu/Kunput: Ass (Either the body part, a person acting in an annoying matter, or on rare occasions a "bottom" though this is more often hurpu/hurput literally "hole")
Ikuwa: Ass (animal)
Pibisa: Piss
Olbi: Drunkard (stemming from Olibis meaning wine)
Gur: Ugly
Nahsha: Barbarian/Savage/Forestfolk (Literally no bread)
Duwush: Stupid
Kip: Child (Context)
Luya: Prostitute/Whore (Used for people of any sex or gender, the more polite or even dignified version of this is Luluya)
Bushku: Cock (The more dignified version of this would be Uluku)
Yusha: Cunt (The more dignified version of this is Uluma)
Kiluki: Rat (Thief, a sneaky person)
Kilukuki: Weasel (Popular pets/pest control, name is used to refer to a foolish person)
Pefu: Fart
Rude Gestures and Actions:
Holding the index and middle finger up with all other fingers tucked in and the palm facing a person (The peace sign) is the equivalent of calling someone Luya or else an adulterer, the two fingers being representative of multiple phalluses. Two thumbs up has a similar meaning.
Showing a person the bottom of your foot at any time is rude as it implies a disparity of status.
Sticking out one's tongue is considered vulgar, and may be used by prostitutes as a way of attracting customers.
Covering one's head while indoors is considered highly rude, the exception being helmets and if status permits, crowns.
Hissing (like a cat or snake) is considered a sign of deep disrespect if done between adults, as this is typically associated with grabbing the attention of naughty children.
Always greet the oldest person first when making formal greetings, addressing someone else is considered rude.
Mixing wine or pouring beer only for oneself is considered rude, it is customary to offer to pour for at least one other person, and only after they accept or refuse can you prepare some for yourself.
When eating if a person takes a bite off of a piece of food and then sets the rest of said piece back on the serving dish from whence it came this is considered incredibly disrespectful, thus why Kishic food is served in a manner that allows for it to easily be either eaten in bite sized pieces or broken into pieces without the use of teeth. Basically if the food leaves the plate, it cannot go back, even if that means you must hold the food until you finish eating it all.

Happy STS! What's the most nuanced relationship you've written so far?
I somehow missed this in my inbox, which is a shame because I HAVE SO MUCH TO SAY ABOUT THIS ONE--
Anyways, hi Tori! Thank you for the ask!
I have written so many extremely nuanced relationships, most of them non-romantic—although I usually don't have a plan whenever I write the dynamics between my characters. It just kind of... happens?
That being said, I'm pretty sure the most nuanced relationship (in a story that I can talk about without major spoilers) is in Minding Q's (of course): my lovely side characters, Nic and Chase.
And it turns out, this post I made forever ago is now coming in handy! (It's basically just me rambling about them and also the entire backstory of their relationship, which has pretty much stayed the same.) I think the only thing that's sort of changed is that Nic does not like labels, and he does not like being perceived incorrectly, which leads to a lot of tense situations when other people pry about the relationship. (Chase uses the labels panromantic-asexual, but just when people ask about it.)
The important thing is that they refer to each other as "companions," and they care for each other. The rest is honestly hard to describe outside of the story, but it's all there in their words and actions. (Also this post ended up a lot shorter than I thought it would be because I forgot I had that post I could link 😭)
