I am not a religious person, but sometimes you get a weird and interesting podcast in that vein. So... Let's talk about The Gospel of the Flood from Jonas Kyratzes and @astronautdown . The Gospel of the Flood is an philosophical, apocalypse, religiously-framed fiction podcast that seems to be set inspecifically in the modern day. On the day the continents started to sink into the ocean, our main character, a priest, loses his faith. It just evaporates from him. Gone. And so, he travels to visit his brothers in faith. He wants to see how they're fairing, do they still have their faith? What are they doing now that the ocean is rapidly rising? Now that the world is literally and metaphorically sinking. Can he do something/ anything in the face of global death? Can he/should he reclaim his faith? The show is introspective, gentle, and philosophical. As an atheist who was brought up Christian, believe me when I say, I'm not looking for "God" based content. But this is an interesting one. What does a miracle mean when someone survives a large scale event above all those other people? Can something be a miracle for one, when hundreds, thousands, millions die. Surely God can't have only looked at one person. It's desturbing when you zoom out and think about it for too long. What does a prophet look like? What would you do in the face of global annulation? 7, 15 minute episodes of moral philosophy that will either confirm your faith, or your atheism, depending on how you look at it. *Shrug* So, if you like thoughtful philosophy, maybe like if Almehem had a baby with The Tower? Or maybe with Still Lives? Then, The Gospel of the Flood is for you! #drama #dramapodcast #postapocalyptic #specfic #speculativefiction #fictionpodcasts #podcastsunday #trypod #podcasts #podcast #podcastrecommendation #podcastrecommendations #recommended #podcastsunday #audiodramasunday #gospeloftheflood #moralphilosophy #religion #christianity #christianityasaframingnarrative #jonaskyratzes #chrischristodoulou https://www.instagram.com/p/CpzEcInOjBG/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Clockwork Outlaws Their eyes glowed ominously in the twilight. Shades of blue and orange flickered, casting an unnerving light. Neither heroes nor saviors; they were the outlaws, the misfits, the feared. . . . . .

Although the battle lines have shifted down through the years from heliocentrism to evolution (and let’s not get started on the age of the Earth), it feels like there’s a fundamental conflict between science and religion, especially with respect to the Abrahamic religions like Christianity and Islam. I (Christina), the host of this podcast episode, as a scientist and atheist who tends to assume all scientists are atheists—because how could they not be?—am definitely guilty of thinking this.
Yet, there is a long tradition of curiosity, inquiry, and, yes, science within the Abrahamic religions and no shortage of devout scientists working hard to this day to understand the workings of the world and cosmos. I decided that it was time to confront my assumptions by talking to one of my religious colleagues. Thank you in advance to Dr Norm Nelson—an oceanographer whose Christianity is a core part of his life—for discussing whether or not there is a conflict between science and Christianity, and where the roots of that conflict might lie.

I think this is one of my favorite weekend reads in a while!!! I adore Afrofuturism and African futurism, and all forms of speculative fiction, so when I heard about this one, I had to read it! It has vibes of Lois Lowry's The Giver, Natasha Bowen's Skin of the Sea, Nnedi Okorafor's work, Octavia Butler's Kindred, and more! Yetu is the Historian of her people, merpeople born from enslaved African women thrown overboard while pregnant. She is the keeper of the memories of their traumatic ancestral past. Similarly to The Giver, her role is to protect the people from pain - but the task is overwhelming, and slowly killing her. Every year, her people hold a ceremony where she gives the people back the memories for a few days, temporarily easing her burden, but then she must mire herself again - and this time, she wants to escape. Yetu's journey, her attempts to reconcile her own identity with the painful memories that threaten to consume her, her love for a "two-legs" woman, her healing, and her final decision make for the kind of story that won't let you go til you've turned the last page - and then you wish for more. If you like speculative fiction, this is your next read! #speculativefiction #africanfuturism #Afrofuturism #mermaid #blackmermaid #bookstagram #librariansofinstagram #librariansfollowlibrarians #readersofinstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CjLzoFWvce6/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

TRIPTYCH is now available on @radishfiction! Kalp is a widower, burdened with an unimaginable grief, who escaped his dying world with nothing but his own life and a half-finished toy for a child that will now never be born. Gwen is a language expert covertly recruited for a United Nations initiative to integrate a ship-full of alien refugees into life on earth. She becomes Kalp’s teammate and lifeline. Basil is the engineer who lives with, and loves them, both. But he has no idea how to defend his new relationship against the ire and condemnation of a violently intolerant world. Part "District 9", part "Lost in Translation", and part "Stranger in a Strange Land", TRIPTYCH is a poignant, character-driven science-fiction story about tolerance, love, loss, and the desperate attempt to find connection in a world that no longer makes sense. Named one of the best books of 2011 by Publishers Weekly (@pwpics). Join is today as we discuss #AfricaRisen!! 445PM to 5PM Pregame with @isisasare and @brisbookish!!! 5PM to 6PM @shereereneethomas, @authorzknight, and @penprince gives us the behind the scenes on editing Africa Risen! Reposted from @seahorsestories 🚀Book Tour and Review🚀 Thank you so much to @tordotcompub, @shereereneethomas, @penprice, and @authorzknight for providing the Weirdos and I from @b2weird with finished copies of Africa Risen! I'm so glad we could do a tour for this beautiful story collection. Africa Risen is a speculative fiction collection full of beautifully written stories by BIPOC authors! As with any short story collection, there were certain stories I enjoyed more than others, but I really loved this collection overall. There was only one author I was already familiar with going into Africa Risen, so this book introduced me to quite a few new-to-me writers that I will definitely be keeping an eye out for! Here are some VERY brief and honestly insufficient descriptions of a few of my favorite stories from Africa Risen: "March Magic" by WC Dunlap: A group of witches gather to conjure a dream into reality.  "IRL" by Steven Barnes: A virtual reality kingpin burns his digital empire to the ground to revenge an IRL attack on his family.  "Rear Mirror" by Nuzo Onoh: A group of priests face off against the spirit of a dead woman who does not want to be cremated.  "The Sugar Mill" by Tobias B. Buckell: A real estate agent tries to sell a former sugar mill but is haunted by the ghosts of those who died there.  "Ghost Ship" by Tananarive Due: A woman smuggling an illegal cat onto a ship finds that getting caught with the pet is the least of her worries during the voyage. This is only a few of the stories I loved! There were some I couldn't even begin to try describing in one sentence. Africa Risen is available now! Check out the hashtags #B2Weird and #B2WTours to see more Africa Risen posts from the tour! #AfricaRisen #shortstories #bipocbooks #bipocauthors #speculativefiction #scififantasy #scifibooks #bookstagram #SistahScifi (at Sistah Scifi) https://www.instagram.com/p/ClmmAIYv4Hz/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Another Audioverse Nominee! Let's talk about 2022 Tribeca Film Festival selected podcast, Modes of Thought in Anterran Literature from @wlfdr . Modes of Thought in Anterran Literature is a spec-fic, Classical Lit (tbh more like anthro or history to me) podcast presented partly as a University class. We follow Professor (?) as he teaches a possibly questionable class on the literature of a heretofore unknown society, the Anterrans. A society that dates back to 84,000 BCE--massively well before any other known civilization. The ruins of Anterra lie deep in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, or so say the ultra-secretive (and let's be honest, sometimes scientifically dodgy) Chinese scientists who are working the dive site. But with almost no publications online or in the news, how does the professor even *know* about Anterra or its wall-carved literature, let alone have enough info to teach Classics C667?? He appears to possibly have some Chinese contacts, but is this true, or an elaborate hoax from a slightly unlikeable man who wants to make a name for himself, or is maybe slowly going insane? Is this enough to stake his reputation on, enough to risk his position at Harbridge University? He thinks so, and we'll just have to wait and see. Modes is a unique plot in podcasting, so far as I can tell. Which is always fun and refreshing! 9, 15 minute episodes so far, and Season 2 just started up--episodes every two weeks. It should be a quick catch up! So, if you like academia with an air of mystery, spies and secretive governments, and/or unreliable narrators, then Modes of Thought in Anterran Literature is for you!

HAPPY RELEASE DAY TO ME!! I am thrilled to report THE WORLD OF TOMORROW IS SADLY OUTDATED is now in the world in an exclusive digital & audiobook edition via @bryantstreetpub!
New York City: The Year is 1889.
New York City: The Year is 2089.
In 1889 a group of bold pseudo-scientists discover the "temporal current" and begin to view the distant future that await the Empire City. In the future, all life as we know it has crumbled, leaving New York City a ghost town with a populous scrabbling to survive underground. In the past it's up to an unlikely group of Victorians to preserve something of their world to save their future generations. In the future it's up to an unlikely group of survivors to take a leap of faith; discovering what their ancestors left for them with no more guarantees than love and hope.   https://www.instagram.com/p/Cpx9lMcv_3d/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
