classifying soukoku as purely romantic or purely platonic is so.....strange to me. ive been trying to find the right word to describe their relationship and if im being honest? there isnt one. they're soukoku, dazai and chuuya, double black. but they're also dazai and chuuya, two people living their own separate lives.

I've seen a lot of people say they're soulmates, and i used that for a while too. but after more thinking, that doesn't fit either. the relationship they've formed with eachother is entirely their own. they're not enemies, friends, or lovers. i think they would gag just thinking of the last two. they hate each other but they also love each other, in their own weird way.

im not sure if im making any sense, to be honest. i guess the best way to summarize it would be: there is no label for dazai and chuuya. they just....are

thinking now and forever about jmart clinginess

in the safehouse, Jon is the clingy one. after a good old fashioned What Are We talk, Jon goes in hard with the physical affection. not to mention, Martin's fresh out of The Lonely so he needs that grounding at times, though he's rarely the one to initiate it himself. he's happy to cuddle, but he still feels strange asking for it after. everything in his life. meanwhile Jon is sick of everything in his life and Dangit He Wants To Hold His Boyfriend, so he does <3 often <3 he hugs him from the front and buries his face in his chest, he hugs him from the back and buries his face between his shoulder blades, he alternates between being the little spoon tucked in Martin's arms and the big spoon clutching Martin protectively in his own. Martin is more than happy to indulge. especially since Jon likes to have his hair played with.

maybe at Upton House things are a bit different. Jon's clingy, but maybe a bit less so if only because he's wary of Annabelle. Martin's a bit more used to their relationship now, so he can stand to hug Jon from behind and press a kiss to the top of his head without needing to ask, sure in the knowledge that Jon would like nothing more than for him to do that.

somewhere else, Martin gets clingier than ever. arguments are had, things are said, but Martin still can't leave his side. and once things quiet down again and forgiveness is given as it's due, he goes back to hugging Jon from behind, though much more carefully now. his fingertips ghost around the edges of that scar on his chest before pressing his palms down gently across Jon's front. Jon leans his head back against his chest and smiles as if the scar wasn't there. as if Martin hadn't caused it. they go to bed and Jon gets in the habit of stroking Martin's hair as he rests his head on his chest, carefully listening in case a heartbeat disappears. Martin is practically glued to his hip, those days, and Jon would only ever mind it if he could see the guilt in his eyes. And if he could, he'd have Martin lay his head in his lap and stroke his hair until he fell asleep with his nose buried in his stomach.

eventually Martin is able to just ask for the affection he wants without guilt or apprehension once more. and by then they're both evenly insufferable in their displays of affection <3.

I want to see art of Tumblr as a physical space. It's a building. The popular blogs are sitting on their thrones. The hall of fame is the reception of it because departamental building. You know when you got to a building and there are sofas on one side the receptionist in front fo the door? Imagine he sofa side is incredibly big but it's actually a library, because everyone here seems to love libraries, and each book is a famous post, but they're all disorganized entirely so they randomly appear on a table of the library and someone grabs it and says "hey look at this!" and then continue to share it; sometimes they don't share it and instead put it back in the shelf but soon it appears on a table again. Each apartment is a person and each room in them is a blog they have, and if you only have one blog? Worry not! Slider curtains or magical walls, so it's technically one room but it's made perfectly to fit you. The apartment has all accommodations needed for the person (wheel chair, painkillers, pads, tampons, you name it and it's there.) and you can have your pronouns and your name written on the door and next to it a list of the things you love the most and want to talk about with people. There are pride flags inside and outside if you want to have them. Your wardrobe is whatever you want to wear for the day; Cozy pajama? Sure! Wizard robe! There you go! Victorian outfit? Lovely! Beetlejuice cosplay? Neat!

The dash is the halls. We wander around the building whenever we leave the room. When you post something, you're just saying out loud your thoughts, and if you get notes, that's just people wandering near your apartment who happen to have heard you. Likes are people literally leaving heart shaped stickers —with the paper still on— under your door with a little note saying "I heard you saying this and I liked it". Reblogs are people hearing you, then going back to their rooms and saying "Hey I heard this and I want all of you to hear it too! Also, I may have something to add to it!". Your neighbors are your mutuals, because they can hear you more easily.

In the main hall there are, like, papers hanging on one VERY big wall. The wall has written at the very top of it "POLLS" in big font. The wall is divided in "FINISHED" and "AVAILABLE". The papers on the available side come with a pen so you can vote, but no one sees you while doing so and no one will know what you said except for you.

The asks are people sending you letters under your door. Your door is uh magical so you can say if people have to sign it or if it's okay to put it anonymous. You then proceed to read the letter out loud for everyone who passes by to hear and you answer.

The drafts is you having a thought but instead of saying it out loud you write it down, and put it on a shelf with the other drafts. Every apartment has a shelf, as high or as low as the person wants it, the color and the shape and everything is to appeal the owner of the apartment.

And uh.. I think that's it for now I can't think for much else except uh

@hellsite-detective has two types of asks. The simples ones like "Hey can you find this?" "I love what you do!" are the usual letters, the other type is the people who prefer to go ask for help themselves. They knock on the door and present the evidence for the case, trusting our dear detective.

There's so many people in here... Tumblr is pretty much a city with how many buildings there are... People can go on to other buildings and wander around too and participate if they want.

The gimmick blogs have different wardrobes in their rooms. There's the main one where they go as themselves, and there's the other where they can put on costumes and change their names.

There's also a more secluded part of the city... That's where the misfits live. Bigots, transphobes, homophobes... People who we don't want to be around, so they hide in their little corner of the city. Most know better than to interact. Those who are curious put on a custom to not be seen when they wander around, and they try not to engage.

I want to continue talking about this but I don't have any more ideas right now so please continue this if you want! :)

my god. you are unleashing my analysis brain. ok.

i have a lot of thoughts in general on the "main cast" around mob (reigen, dimple, teru, and ritsu) in general LOL + how they all intertwine with e/o but i do really like teru bc of how nebulous his backstory is.. ONE pretty much just gives us this:

+ the fact that he started living alone bc of the claw attacks. everybody else has pretty straightforward backstories (except for dimple i guess, but he doesn't really follow the traditional rules of all the human characters), but teru's situation is so fucking strange. and it's never elaborated upon.

but i do think that it's very obvious that he turned out the way he Did pre mob meeting just bc he was forced to take care of himself and survive from an insanely young age. skipping childhood to become an "adult" is really the only option for him, which ultimately leads him to creating a social hierarchy at his school because gaining a position of power is "just something adults do." that plus the fact that he needs some way to prove himself to others that he's worthy of attention and praise because he can't get that validation from his parents. so the next best thing is his classmates!

from my viewpoint, a lottt of teru's behaviors boil down to doing what an adult "should" be doing / the ideal successful adult figure. which is also why he fits himself in those traditional heteronormative and masculine roles via. dating women and fighting men. this stuff helps reinforce the social hierarchy, but also creates the illusion that he's capable of being in functioning hetero relationships as people are expected be in as they grow older. teru wants to stand out, but in a "socially acceptable" way -- the way that will guarantee him praise from others.

the whole facade obviously crumbles after his encounter with mob. he's knocked off of his pedestal, being stripped of his dignity (and other things...) in front of the carefully constructed ecosystem he created with himself at the top. bigger pond, bigger fish! so once that's gone, teru really has nobody else to prove himself to or get worship from. at the end of the day, all he really has is himself to gain acceptance from. and with that, he can become an actual functioning human being and not a weird, disfigured, carefully chiseled mimic of what he thinks is the ideal adult.

obviously, remnants of this system pre-yassified teru put up is still present and we see that with teru still getting lots of gifts from girls who are kinda scared by him. but we don't really see how teru interacts with his classmates or vice versa in everyday life past that. i do really enjoy the idea of black vinegar's shadow leader coming back with a complete 180 personality. and a wig to match that change.

but all that aside, teru coming to the realization that he doesn't have much if you take away his psychic powers lets him become a kid again. not hardened by life or jaded, not held up to these wild expectations, not expected to take care of himself emotionally (which isn't kid-exclusive, but teru just never allowed himself to share that burden to begin with). i mean, he's always been a kid -- just in the way he tries to appear mature -- but he can let himself grow in his own, much healthier, way.

i think that's why teru's character in particular inherently has so much gay subtext, because the audience sees his character go from "traditional masculine figure" to... basically the opposite of that. and if the traditional masculine figure is defined by the role in heterosexual relationships, then the opposite would be homosexuality.

well, that and his general attitude towards mob. and teru's fruity ass fits. i'm not sure how he had those in his closet and thought, "yeah! i'm straight!"

and that's my two cents! my concluding statement: god, i hope we get the series of animated spinoffs ONE mentioned as a hypothetical.

i love mob's story to death, but i'd love to see more explorations into the other characters because they're usually pushed to the sideline development-wise after their respective arcs are over. i do love the omakes for this reason though lol

I can't keep quiet about this take.

I saw someone saying the only reason why Aizou has a song dedicated to his mother, why he still loves her, is to make way for Chizuru in his life.

This may get a bit long.

Ignoring the fact that just because Aizou still loves his mother that doesn't mean he doesn't have trauma with women, that's incredibly insensitive to Aizou's character.

Yujiro had said it himself. Aizou is too kind for his own good.

He wears his heart on his sleeve and, at heart, he isn't a negative person. He can't forget the abuse and neglect he endured from his mother or the consequences of living in a home full of constant screaming.

But he can't forget the happy memories either. He recalls the memories of when his family was happy very fondly (if not sadly as well).

When Yuko went out drinking, we see Aizou trying to take care of her, and struggling because...well, she was drunk and got violent sometimes when drunk.

He didn't do that out of obligation. He did it because he loved his mother.

Just look at the way he hugs her while she's drunk.

(Also, am I saying it's fair that he had to take care of her while she was drunk??? No, of course not. It's tragic and awful. But it's who he is as a character, and it happened. No point in pointing out how it never should have happened, because no one is saying is otherwise.)

Aizou was hurt and disappointed when Yuko left him and Ken to go to France with her new husband. That cannot be disputed.

But again...at his heart, Aizou is not a negative person. He got hurt, but regardless, he still loves his mother.

It's a very bitter story, and frankly, I think Aizou's kindness is his biggest strength. He forgives his mother, even though she traumatized him to the point of disliking being around girls. (Though Ken dating around didn't help matters)

And as for Chizuru...has Honeyworks not made it clear that this is a severe parasocial relationship??? I doubt they'll ever actually talk outside of fan meet and greets.

I mean, who would date anyone who has so much merch of them???

Or any merch, for that matter?

This take is, essentially, "Aizou's only forgiving his mom so that he can be with this girl who stalked him and has tons of merch of him", the exact opposite of what Aizou needs.

It's also a take that ignores the point of Chizuru's story? She had it rough, to the point of considering self harm, and LIPxLIP (Aizou) is what gave her passion and energy and motivation to be more confident in herself and learn to love herself.

Was she overly obsessive and in the wrong for her stalking? Yes.

But she's a young teen girl. She knows now how troublesome she was being.

Her "love" for Aizou isn't romantic. It's love, but it's more admiration than anything. Her recent MV may seem to counter that, but consider that this MV came out before she got called out for her behavior, before the bullying incident. This was her first song ever.

I dunno though, I just think the take doesn't actually consider Aizou or Chizuru at all.
