I spent the whole day deep cleaning and tidying and sorting the flat. A tidy environment makes me so happy. And now I deserve internet enrichment time.

The Laudna and Georgie bit is *so* delightful to me.
I love that Orym is actually willing to recreate this plan at all, never mind with someone who isn’t Opal (the fact that the plan explicitly involves him being called Nancy makes me think that he and Opal pulled this a couple times - probably to even greater success thanks to that becoming her nickname for him).
I love that it’s Laudna he ends up recreating it with - not least bc I think of the current group she was probably the best option to pull it off; she can commit to the bit and frequently unsettles people to the point they often avoid questioning her deceptions in hopes she’ll go away quicker.
[Dusk is an unknown quantity; while Imogen has proven very adept at deception I think Orym would hesitate to ask her given her whole thing with her mom; this far Fearne’s deception outside of stealing things is very much reliant on people being either too charmed to question her lest it drive her away or charmed enough to indulge her.]
The moment of pause Orym gives, mentally bracing himself before saying “- and you’re gonna call me Nancy” is just. Guy who accidentally levelled up in Tired Dad friend preparing himself to take further levels.
(And also as far as I am concerned taking a moment to acknowledge and then swallow down the fact that he misses and worries about Opal (& the rest of the Crownkeepers))
I love the fact that one of Laudna’s first suggestions for his name is “Freddie”.
I love that the name she settles on (unknowingly) is Opal’s birth name.

A song came on and it reminded me of waiting for the bus as a kid and how, depending on which bus stop I waited at, there were different things to do while I waited. At one, I walked in a little creek. At the other, I would climb the apple tree and eat little apples. Anyway, after that it reminded me of how fortunate I was that after a while, the bus drivers started dropping me off right outside my house even though it wasn't a bus stop - I was the only kid that got off at the actual bus stop, and my house was along the route, so they just dropped me off at my door instead. Anyway, I dunno why I'm sharing this other than I was thinking about and wanted to share about something that brought me joy as a kid and how lucky I was then to have those little moments.

zāl and simorgh
زال و سیمرغ
One of my favourite tales from the Šahnameh… Simorgh is a powerful mythological bird, and in the myth she saves baby Zāl from dying after he is abandoned near the Alborz (البرز) mountains. She raises him as her own, until she returns him - when he’s grown - back to his father and kingdom.
She gifts him some of her feathers before he leaves though, so that when he is in need he can burn them and she’ll be summoned to aid him.
Later, when Zāl’s wife Rudābeh (رودابه) is having difficulty during child-birth, Zāl burns a feather and Simorgh arrives, she then helps perform… the world’s first c-section.

I just wanted to do something nice and did the dishes in the middle of the night.
My sister came in and suddenly left the kitchen..
Apparently she had nightmare in nightmare and when she woke up to see me do the dishes, she didn't believe that I would do it and thought it was another dream and went back to bed...
