I can just imagine while everyone is sitting in the RV just waiting for their fight the following day, Robin sits and sketches in a notebook.
Initially no one pays attention, too busy in their own heads. Then Max gets curious because she had been drawing for over 40 minutes now. She leans over and catches a glimpse of it and says to Robin, "hey thats really really good!"
Robin obviously didnt notice her presence as she jumped and quickly hid the book. She gave Max a stare which said 'don't you dare say anything'.
That evening when they are sitting eating food, Nancy is beside Robin. When all of a sudden Robin hears her name being called.
"Robin? Hello didnt you hear what I said?"
"Oh sorry Nance, was in a world of my own there. Everything okay?"
"What were you drawing earlier? You seemed super focused on it."
At this point robin starts getting flustered and a blush begins to creep over her cheeks because she thought Max was the only one who noticed , "I- oh it was... nothing really. Just a sketch. I have loads in that book. It just keeps me busy and out of my head."
To which Nancy obviously replies, "well can I have a look?" With such a genuine smile on her face that Robin can't say no.
She sheepishly hands over her sketchbook and Nancy begins to flick through, complimenting each and every one she sees.
Just when Robin knows she is about to reach her most recent sketch she goes to reach for the notebook but Nancy notices and holds it just out of reach and with one final page turn she is faced with a sketch of herself sitting in the RV. Her hair framing her face in the perfect way it always seems to. Her worry evidently written across her features despite the smile on her face and the slight glint highlighted in her eyes.
Nancy is speechless.
Robin starts to worry at the lack of comments which were endless with her previous drawings.
"I'm sorry, I should have asked you if it was alright to draw you but I dunno... you just looked so beautiful and the way the light was hitting your face and yeah you just made me want to draw you... but I can totally get rid of it if you dont like it.."
But before Robin can continue, "NO!.. No Robbie, I love it. It's really beautiful."
"You think so?" Robin replies, with a small smile and bringing her eyes up to meet Nancys.
"Definitely, but not as beautiful as the person who drew it." A smug smile starting to spread across Nancys features, making Robin even more flustered and just as speechless as Nancy was just moments ago.

“Tonight is the night,” Nancy says.
She says it with so much gravity that it makes Eddie look up from his spot on the couch, drawing his attention away from the email he’s reading (lyrics from Jeff that he wants input on). He whistles.
“Damn, Nance, you look good,” he says. She has her hair and makeup done and she’s wearing her favorite dress, the one that looks black until the right light hits it and reveals it’s actually purple. Eddie may be as gay as they come, but he can recognize that she looks sexy as hell. “The night for what?”
She takes a deep breath. “I’m going to ask Robin to be my girlfriend.”
“Hell yeah!” Eddie says, putting his hand out for a high-five. She returns it before sitting on the couch next to him. “You have a date tonight?”
“No, remember? It’s the party.”
Right. Nancy spent twenty minutes the other day trying to convince Eddie to come with her to the party that Robin and her housemates are throwing. He refused. He’s met Robin a few times and really likes her—and he knows Nancy is completely head over heels for her—but he’s not big on house parties where he doesn’t know anyone. Especially because it’s a guarantee that Nancy will abandon him immediately to be with Robin.
“Do you think that’s a terrible place to do it?” Nancy asks, “And do you think it’s too soon?”
Eddie shrugs. He’s shit at relationships, so he doesn’t know the rules. “I think you’re fine,” he says, “You guys are clearly crazy about each other. I think you could take her to, like, a sewage plant and ask her to be your girlfriend and she’d still be over the moon.”
She gives him a tiny smile. “Will you please come?” she asks. “I’m just so nervous about it and it would really help to have my best friend there.”
Unfair. She’s giving him her biggest doe eyes. It shouldn’t work on him because he knows she only makes that face when she’s trying to manipulate him. But even though he knows what she’s doing, she’s just so adorable. He can’t say no to her.
He sighs. “God, fine,” he says. He looks down at his worn out t-shirt and hole-riddled sweatpants. “I probably have to change, huh?”
Forty-five minutes later, Eddie is circling the block looking for a spot to park. Normally Nancy drives when they go somewhere together because she hates his driving, but he insisted tonight because he has a feeling that she’s going to end up staying the night and he doesn’t want to be trapped. As they drive, Nancy has been giving Eddie the rundown on Robin’s housemates. There’s Max and Lucas, the couple who are Nancy’s brother Mike’s age. She’s convinced that they would get along really well with Mike and his boyfriend Will, so she keeps trying to figure out an organic way for them to meet. She tells Eddie that she invited them to the party but never heard if they’ll actually be there. Then there’s Steve, Robin’s best friend who works with her at the same library where Robin and Nancy originally met (because Nancy was doing research for a story and had to access the archives for some records that were never digitized). Nancy keeps telling Eddie that she thinks he’s either going to fall madly in love with Steve or hate his guts. So Eddie guesses he’s about to find out which one it’ll be.
He finally finds a spot on the street around the corner. He squeezes his van into the tiny space and puts it in park before glancing over at Nancy. She looks nervous, taking slow, even breaths to steady herself while her hands shake.
“Hey,” he says, putting his hand out. She puts her hand in his and he squeezes it tight. “You’ve got this. Robin’ll be a goddamn idiot if she says no.”
She gives him a small smile. “Thank you,” she says, then tosses her shoulders back. “Let’s do this.”
They get out of the van, where Nancy makes him stop so she can fix the collar of his battle vest that’s standing up. It’s a pretty warm night, so he’s had to forgo his favorite leather jacket plus vest combo. Instead, it’s just the vest over top of a Nekrogoblikon t-shirt paired with his favorite black jeans. He feels really underdressed next to Nancy, but she told him it was fine when he showed her the outfit for approval.
Inside, the house is pretty packed. Right away, Eddie sees that Mike and Will made it after all, along with Will’s sister El. They’re all sitting side by side on a couch talking to three people who are sitting cross-legged on the ground in front of them.
“That’s Max and Lucas,” Nancy tells Eddie, pointing out two of the kids on the ground. “Not sure who the other one is.”
As they get closer, Mike glances up and waves. But the group seems pretty engrossed in their conversation, so Eddie and Nancy move deeper into the house.
Eddie feels Nancy clench his wrist. “That’s Steve,” she hisses, nodding significantly in the direction of the kitchen. His eyes find the guy she’s pointing out, ladling punch into a red Solo cup and—
Fuck.
He’s the most beautiful guy Eddie’s ever seen. Nancy way undersold him. He gets that there’s a certain amount of leeway he needs to grant to her as a lesbian since she can’t really tell, but come on. Eddie could be full on blind and still recognize that Steve is unreal. His swooping brown hair catches the last of the setting sun coming in through the window and turns it all shades of honey. His eyes are the same, amber in the dying light. And it’s like his face has been sculpted from stone—not marble—something better than that. Some stone they haven’t invented yet because nothing else currently on this earth could capture him.
Belatedly, he becomes aware of Nancy laughing at him. Somehow, she can always follow his thoughts. Always knows when he’s composing terrible sonnets in his mind. But just as she’s opening her mouth (definitely to make fun of him), Robin appears in front of them. Eddie watches her cheeks flame as she looks Nancy up and down.
“Hi, Nancy!” she says, “Glad you made it!”
“Of course I did!” Nancy says, eyes practically turning into hearts and popping out of her head. “I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
Robin reaches her hands out to grasp Nancy’s. “You look gorgeous,” she says, “I love that dress.”
Eddie can tell this is going to veer into territory where he can’t follow very quickly, so he cuts in. “Hey, Robin, nice to see you.”
Robin blinks at him. “Oh, hey!” she says, “I didn’t see you.”
That was apparent. Not that Eddie’s upset about it. He loves seeing the two girls like this, loves that Nancy has found someone who matches her intensity.
They get through the bare minimum small talk (work is good, yes they all watched that new episode of that show, yes it was crazy), but Eddie can see that Nancy and Robin want to be alone. So he lets Robin drag Nancy away, presumably to her bedroom. And now he just needs to figure out what he’s going to do now that the only two people he knows here are preoccupied.
Well, that’s not entirely accurate. He knows Mike, Will, and El. He looks over, but they’re no longer sitting in the living room. He scans the crowd for them and sees Mike and Will have moved to the kitchen (apparently Steve has moved on—that’s unfortunate) where they’re talking to Lucas and the other guy Eddie doesn’t know. Eddie makes his way over to them, stopping by the punch bowl on his way.
“Eddie!” Mike says as soon as he sees him. “Lucas and Dustin here play D&D. Can we invite them to Hellfire?”
Eddie crosses his arms and surveys the two guys, sizing them up. Dustin looks like the type, with a Star Wars shirt and a goofy grin. Lucas looks way too athletic to be into D&D though. Not nearly enough of a loser.
“I don’t know,” he says, “Are you guys any good?”
That causes both boys to launch into tales of their various past exploits on campaigns, apparently not giving a shit that they’re yelling over each other so Eddie can’t tell anything they’re saying. He feels the passion, though.
“Alright,” he concedes, “You can sit in for a session. If you’re good, we’ll let you stick around.”
Whooping, Mike and Will high-five each other, then Lucas and Dustin.
“Where’s your sister?” Eddie asks Will.
Will nods over to an adjacent wall. “Over there talking to Max and Steve,” he says. Eddie follows his gaze and sees the trio. More specifically, his eyes are drawn to Steve. He’s so goddamn beautiful, even in the artificial light now that the sun has disappeared below the horizon.
Well, isn’t this a perfect opportunity? “I’m gonna go say hi,” Eddie says casually, nodding in farewell to Will, Mike, Lucas, and Dustin. Then, red Solo cup in hand, he starts heading in the direction of El, Steve, and Max.
In a way, it’s just too damn predictable.
Eddie is walking toward the group, feeling pretty good, doing his best to look cool and nonchalant. He’s about five feet away and Steve glances up, eyes flicking over him. And Eddie’s so caught up in the euphoria of being seen (and maybe admired?) by Steve that he completely misses someone’s purse on the ground. He trips over it, doesn’t manage to right himself, and goes sprawling. To add insult to injury, he doesn’t manage to keep hold of his cup of punch and manages to spill it all over himself and Steve.
Great.
“Fuck, man, I’m so sorry,” Eddie says, hopping to his feet and putting his hands out like he can—what? Wipe away the bright red punch from Steve’s white shirt? God, he’s so stupid.
Steve is looking down at himself in surprise, then back up at Eddie. “It’s cool,” he says. Fuck, his voice is so sexy. Eddie can’t believe that the first thing he did when trying to approach this guy was spill punch all over him. When did he become such a mess?
Max laughs. “I told you not to wear white, dingus,” she says. Steve scowls at her.
“Only Robin gets to call me dingus,” he says. “And you told me not to wear white because you think I look ugly in it, not because you thought I would spill on it.”
Max shrugs. “Different reasoning, same end result,” she says breezily.
Alright, Eddie is definitely gonna need to befriend this girl as soon as he stops wanting to die of mortification. If that happens.
“Seriously, man, I’m so sorry,” Eddie says, “I can, like, buy you a new shirt, or—”
Steve waves him off. “Seriously, it’s cool,” he says, “Honestly, I got this shirt in a pack of five from Target so it’s not a big loss.” He looks over Eddie again. His all black ensemble probably doesn’t reveal the punch as much, but Eddie can feel the wet patches sticking to his skin. “C’mon, I’ll lend you something to change into.”
Not about to complain about the prospect of seeing the inside of Steve’s room, Eddie follows him down the hall and through a door. It’s a nice bedroom, tidy without feeling sterile. There are posters for bands on the wall that Eddie doesn’t listen to but doesn’t disrespect either. An acoustic guitar is leaning against a desk that’s stacked with neat piles of books. There are twinkle lights along the bedframe, giving the room a cheerful glow. And it’s a comfy looking bed, with a thick white comforter and fluffy pillows.
Stop staring at his bed, you absolute creep.
“I’m Eddie by the way,” Eddie says, looking back over at Steve. Who is very shirtless. Apparently having peeled his wet shirt off, he’s now standing facing the closet. Goddamn. The smooth expanse of his back is on display, toned and freckled. Eddie wants to bite it.
Steve looks over his shoulder at Eddie. “Yeah, I know,” he says.
“You do?”
“Yeah.” Steve grins, turning more fully around. Don’t stare at his chest don’t stare at his chest don’t stare at his— “After Robin met Nancy she made a whole ass PowerPoint of her Instagram photos. You’re in some of ‘em.”
Eddie feels a little flustered that Steve knew who he was before Eddie knew him. What did he think? Did Steve think he was good looking? Or was he even paying attention? Then Eddie wrinkles his nose, the rest of the context registering.
“A whole PowerPoint, huh?” Eddie asks.
Steve shrugs (his shoulders are so pretty, fuck). “Yeah, it’s kinda what we do,” he says, “Anything significant happens, we share it with each other in excruciating detail. And Robbie knows I’m a visual learner so slideshows work pretty well.”
“Fair enough.”
Steve turns back to the closet and rifles through the hangers. “Good news is I think we’re about the same size,” he says. He produces a plain black t-shirt. “Does this work?”
“I’ll take whatever you give me,” Eddie says (God, he hopes that comes off less horny than it sounds to his ears). “I’m the one who spilled punch all over us.”
Eyes fixed on Eddie’s chest, Steve comes back over. Eddie resists the urge to cross his arms over himself. But obviously, Steve’s just looking at the stains, not him. “Your vest was mostly saved,” Steve says. He touches a spot below one of the buttons on Eddie’s chest, making Eddie’s heart leap into his throat. “There’s a bit, but I think Max has some stuff for stains we can borrow.”
“Cool,” Eddie says. His voice definitely sounds unnatural, and he thinks Steve notices, eyes flicking up to his. Those pretty, pretty eyes. Up close, his eyelashes are so long. And his face is dotted with moles. Eddie wants to touch every one of them. “I’m not really that worried about it,” he chokes out.
Shrugging, Steve hands him the black shirt. And then he just stands there, watching. “Um,” Eddie says. Does Steve really expect him to just strip down right in front of him? He can’t present his incredibly mediocre shirtless self to the most beautiful man he’s ever seen.
Steve lifts his eyebrows. “What’re you waiting for?”
“Uh, nothing,” Eddie says.
This isn’t weird. Right? It’s only weird if he keeps acting all weird about it. But he can be all cool and casual about this like Steve was. So he shrugs out of his battle vest, draping it over the desk chair along with the borrowed shirt, and then tugs his own shirt over his head. Steve’s standing a little closer than Eddie realized, so his arms bump against him as he untangles them from the shirt. Totally fine, totally normal. Totally not gonna obsess about the feeling of Steve’s skin against his for the next 3-5 business days.
As soon as Eddie has laid his shirt over his battle vest, he feels featherlight fingers brushing over the demon tattoo on his chest. He sucks in a breath, frozen to the spot. What is happening right now?
He risks a glance at Steve, whose eyes are trained on Eddie’s tattoos. “I was curious what these looked like up close,” Steve says, “I should admit I actually have seen you shirtless before. I kind of stalked your Instagram.”
What? That’s not computing. First of all, Steve, most gorgeous man to ever exist, stalked Eddie’s Instagram? Second of all, Eddie has shirtless pics on his Instagram? He doesn’t have the confidence to post that kind of thing. Except no, there is a picture on there from when he went to the beach with Gareth and Jeff a month or two ago. But what? Steve has seen it? And it was significant enough for him to remember?
Steve looks at Eddie, eyebrows furrowing. “Is that creepy?”
“No, but—” Eddie shakes his head. “Me?”
“Yeah.” Steve grins. “I think you’re pretty.”
Maybe Eddie hit his head when he fell. Maybe he’s hallucinating this. Maybe he’s gonna wake up on the floor out there, and Steve calling him pretty will all have been a delicious, far-fetched dream. Because there’s just no way.
“You think I’m pretty,” Eddie says. When Steve nods, Eddie almost laughs. “And have you happened to look in a mirror recently?”
Steve laughs. “Yeah,” he says, “But somehow, I’m not my own type.”
He keeps leaning in closer and it’s making it very hard for Eddie to come up with something intelligent to say. He should make a joke or something to prove that he’s very cool and collected, but his brain turns more and more to static the longer he stares into Steve’s eyes.
“Um,” Eddie says. Clever. What’s wrong with him? He doesn’t usually get this flustered. But then, he doesn’t usually talk to guys who look like Steve.
Steve’s smile is very self-satisfied as those gossamer fingers of his trail down past Eddie’s tattoos and brush over his nipple. Eddie takes in a sharp breath. “You often invite strangers who you’ve been stalking into your room to get ‘em shirtless and feel ‘em up?” he asks, aiming for aloof and entirely missing the mark.
“Hmm, just the ones that spill punch on me,” Steve says, pinching Eddie’s nipple slightly. “And just the ones that I catch staring at me.” He leans in, putting his mouth inches away from Eddie’s ear. “I don’t think you’re as subtle as you think you are.”
Unable to resist any longer, Eddie slides his hands around Steve’s waist. His skin is so smooth, so velvety. “Who says I’m trying to be subtle?” he asks.
Grinning, Steve wraps his free arm around Eddie’s neck and pulls him in. Eddie kisses Steve eagerly. His lips are heavenly, so much softer than most guys Eddie has kissed. He tastes like strawberry lipgloss and punch. And he kisses like they have all the time in the world, which maybe they do. Nancy’s off with Robin somewhere, so there’s no reason Eddie needs to rejoin the party any time soon.
They wind up on Steve’s bed, Steve on his back under Eddie. Eddie gets the fingers of one hand tangled in Steve’s hair. So silky, just like everything else about him. The man defines the word soft. It makes Eddie a little crazy, makes him want to dig his teeth and fingers in, ruin the undisturbed perfection. He goes after Steve hungrily, attacking his jaw and throat and collarbones like he’s starving. Steve seems happy to let him, pulling Eddie’s hips down flush with his and rolling his own hips gently up.
Eddie’s just thinking that he’d be happy to never stop kissing Steve exactly like this when there’s a knock at the door. He pulls away and looks at it while Steve sighs.
“I have to answer that,” he says, sounding resigned.
“You sure you have to?” Eddie asks, brushing the hair back off Steve’s forehead. He looks sort of wrecked, red marks already starting to form on his neck.
Steve nods. “If it’s Robin or Max they’ll just let themselves in after thirty seconds.”
He edges out from under Eddie and crosses over to the door. Eddie feels vindicated that he has to adjust himself in his jeans before opening the door a crack.
“Hey, Robbie,” he says, “What’s up?”
“Steve! I have huge news!” Robin says from just out of sight. “Nancy asked me to be her—wait, why don’t you have a shirt on?”
Steve is forced back as Robin pushes the door open farther and pokes her head in. She looks over at the bed, sees Eddie, and grins. “Oh, that’s why,” she says, mischief in her voice.
“Hey, what’s up?” Eddie says, trying to sound casual.
“Eddie?” He hears Nancy’s voice from the hall, and then her head is appearing in the doorway next to Robin’s. As soon as she sees him, she gives a triumphant laugh. “I knew it!”
Eddie buries his face in his hands, sure it’s burning.
“Alright that’s enough,” he hears Steve say. Then there’s the overlapping protests from the girls before the door clicks shut again.
Removing his hands, Eddie risks another glance and sees Steve coming back over to the bed, shaking his head. He slides onto the mattress next to Eddie and puts his arms around him. “Can you believe them?” he asks, not quite managing to hide his smile.
Smiling back, Eddie pinches Steve in the side. “You sure you should have closed the door on them?” he asks, “Sounds like they had big news.”
Steve shrugs. “It’s fine,” he says, “They can tell us in the morning.”
“Morning, huh? Think we’re gonna be occupied until then?”
Smile turning devious, Steve kisses Eddie once before rolling him onto his back. “I think I can come up with a couple things to keep us busy,” he says.
And as Steve kisses him again, Eddie’s pretty sure he agrees.

Yolo swag another drawing I dislike but ronance? Anyway, firm believer that Robin reads French, Italian and Spanish queer literature to Nancy. (Not actually sure of the French queer literature scene in the 80s but I know this books came out in 1966 and tho was eventually censored until the 2000s imma pretend Robin had an uncensored version)
[I.D. Robin and Nancy cuddling laying down. Robin holding a book laying against Nancy. Robin is wearing blue sweats and white shirt with The Cure band design. Nancy is wearing a light rosé / red skirts with purple cardigan and purple shirt. In speech bubble Robin says “I contemplated her, I was remembering her in this present, I had her beside me from last moment to last moment. When you are in love you are always on a railway platform.” In French]

lover boy pizza
A follow-up to the ask “fuck it make em all gay” ft @willelbyers reply: “no no no jonathan and argyle as a couple but they don’t know everyone else is also coupled up and they’re high as shit trying to act normal on this now-quintuple date they think is just-bro-time.”
They were meeting at a pizza place, funny enough. Robin-- the one to blurt out the location when the suggestion of them all meeting up came about-- had no idea about Argyle’s “career” back in Lenora. It was just apparently the only place in Hawkins with booths big enough to fit all of them: Jonathan, Argyle, Steve, Nancy, Robin, and Eddie.
The Byers had flown in two days prior. And Argyle just the day before. His arrival to Jonathan’s hometown was meant to be a surprise-- except for the fact that Jonathan saw his plane ticket in the cupholder of his van while Argyle was driving them all to the airport for the Byers’s summer trip to Hawkins.
Will and El were hanging out with Mike for the day-- maybe the rest of the Party too? Jonathan couldn’t hear very well when Will was explaining. He was talking a thousand miles and hour, El talking over him about maybe meeting up with Max at the Arcade-- no need to worry though, they’d all be back at the Wheeler’s house by 10pm.
Jonathan didn’t think their pizza outing would take that long. What would they even talk about? How Steve and Nancy had rekindled their relationship over spring break-- right after Jonathan and her had mutually ended their own relationship? How Robin and six-year-senior Eddie fucking Munson had suddenly discovered each other across high school social circles and sparked a relationship? Well, and then there was Jonathan and Argyle. A something of a mistake coming-together neither of them expected or regretted. But that wasn’t a conversation starter either.
Jonathan thought he’d be running into Steve and Nancy solo, which was manageable. Then it became the couples and Jonathan which was somehow fine but worse. But now that Argyle had flown in-- and he couldn’t not bring him-- it felt like a trap. A surefire way to look like California changed him and made him into a stranger...
So Jonathan was coping, the best way he knew how, in the alley behind the Pizza Station.
“Just relax, Jonathan. If you don’t think it, you won’t say anything. Then no one’s gonna know anything.” Argyle said once they were walking back to the front, pretending to have only gotten there.
“Right right. Don’t even think it.” Jonathan nodded and clenched his jaw. He really wanted the high to hit now, before the awkward hellos. He felt as if every muscle in his body was tensed and made of stone. “That’s easy for you to say.”
“What do you think about us often or something?” Argyle laughed. It was a quiet laugh, not overly tickled or amused by some granular, non-specific moment in the conversation. He was sober and endeared, just a little bit. And yeah, Jonathan was too-- and that’s what he was always thinking about, whenever Argyle was around.
“Shut up and get inside.” Jonathan held the door open and pushed him in.
Inside, it was pretty easy to spot his friends. It was always easy to spot Nancy in a crowd. Her bright eyes and soft outfit colors were a magnet. She was sitting next to Robin on one side of the booth. Jonathan had never really looked at Robin for very long to truly notice what she looked like before meeting her in the Mall. He almost didn’t recognize her now that she was open-mouth laughing, leaning and gripping onto Nancy’s shoulder for support. In their initial hours of meeting one another, no one was laughing. It was a nice sight to see. Steve and Eddie were on the other side of the table. Which meant Jonathan and Argyle had to split and sit across from each other. Jonathan wasn’t sure if that was an improvement or somehow worse: he’d only be able to stare at Argyle.
Oh fuck this wasn’t going to be easy. Not at all.
“Hey! Jonathan!” Steve had turned around in the booth at the sound of the door. He had one arm stretched along the back of the seat behind Eddie and the other raised and flagging him down. “So is this A-Argyle-- am I saying that right?”
“Yeah, man. Argyle’s the name. What’s up?” Argyle reached over and high-fived Steve’s raised hand.
“Oh, uh, thanks.” Steve slowly lowered his hand before running it through his hair. “This is Eddie-- and uh, this is Nancy and Robin.” They all collectively waved before moving over in the booth to make room.
“You look different.” Robin said shortly.
“You look nice.” Nancy said, holding her hand out across Robin. “I think the long hair is nice.”
“I didn’t say it wasn’t! It’s just very different than what I remember. It was all cropped and bowl-ish. Not that that was bad either. Just. You know. Different than this look. You know?”
“I can see where he got the idea.” Eddie flipped the ends of Argyle’s hair as he slid into the booth beside him. Jonathan took the seat beside Nancy. Great, now he was going to be sitting next to his ex-girlfriend while sitting across from his current secret boyfriend while his ex-girlfriend’s no-longer-ex-but-back together-boyfriend sat diagonal to him... This was hell and the weed just wasn’t hitting fast enough.
"Did you guys, uh, order yet?” Jonathan asked.
“Yeah, we just got two pies-- plain and pepperoni-- is that okay?” Nancy asked.
“Dude, have you ever tried pineapple on your pizza? Because honestly I think it’d change your whole world. It’s so good. So tangy and sweet and--”
“Argyle.” Jonathan said. “Maybe now isn’t the time for the Surfer Boy spiel.”
“Oh, but I think anytime is a time for mind-opening revelations about pizza consumption.”
“Like pizza, huh.”
“He works at a pizza place back home.”
“Back home?” Nancy echoed. “Oh, so Lenora is home now?”
“Uh, well, I mean,” Any place love lives would have to be home, right?
“I’m kidding.” Nancy placed a hand on Jonathan’s arm. “I’m glad you like California that much. Glad to see you’re making friends, too.”
"Oh, yeah, Jonathan’s got loads of friends that aren’t me.” Argyle said. He offered no follow-up, only nodding silently. Eddie looked at him, carefully eyeing him up and down. Steve was doing the same but with far more scrutiny. Or maybe it was confusion. It was hard to tell with Steve sometimes. It gave Jonathan very little confidence in how Steve would react if he knew the truth.
It wasn’t that Jonathan was scared of Steve’s reaction, he just didn’t think he’d understand. When had Steve Harrington ever known a gay person in his life-- or whatever Jonathan was. And what about Nancy? What would she think about her ex-boyfriend suddenly being with some guy? Jonathan was less worried about Eddie and Robin, but still concerned that they’d turn their nose up and spill rumors all over Hawkins High. It’d get back to everyone-- the Sinclairs, the Hendersons, the Wheelers...
"So, tell us about California.” Eddie said, waving his hand out to them both. “Any good music out there? Anything we’d envy?”
“The girls.” Argyle said, still nodding.
“Yeah, yeah. The girls are,” Jonathan swallowed thickly. “Nice-- friendly.”
“Oh really?” Robin laughed, lifting an eyebrow.
“Cool it, champ.” Steve reached over and snapped in front of her face. “She’s right here.”
Jonathan laughed along with the others, but felt like he was behind on something. And it didn’t help that at that moment he felt his head become carbonated like a can of Sprite. He fixed his vision straight-ahead just as his vision started to sink into two dimensions. Argyle’s outline in the overhanging lamp light became like a mold to his vision, and anything else he looked at didn’t fit quite as well and didn’t feel quite as right as it felt looking at him and only him...
Jonathan’s vision was disrupted by someone coming and placing two pizzas on the table. Her outline didn’t fit the mold so Jonathan barely looked at her. He kept his eyes forward and waited for Argyle to come into uninterrupted view again. To calm the wrongness of seeing anyone else. His face was a softness that felt like a balm over every anxiety itch in his brain.
Fuck, don’t think about it. Don’t think about it and you won’t say anything.
“God, I’m starving.” Steve muttered, folding a pepperoni slice and immediately taking a bite. “Fuck that’s hot.”
“Yeah, Steven, it just came out of an oven.” Eddie said, grabbing a napkin at the end of the table and holding it underneath Steve’s chin, as if he’d spit the pizza out. Steve resisted but Eddie just lifted the napkin and placed it over his mouth. Jonathan hated the way they were moving-- and not fitting in the settled mold of his eyesight-- and looked away while they wrestled. He was back to looking at Argyle, who was now eating his own slice of pizza. He was pulling the slice back and stretching the hot, gooey cheese out as far as his arm could reach.
Jonathan almost forgot he could eat a slice too. He looked down and found a piece on a paper plate in front of him, Nancy’s hand trailing away.
“Oh, thanks.” He said, turning to her.
She smiled at him and for a moment the mold broke. The brightness of Nancy’s smile and warmth in her eyes broke through and Jonathan felt immense relief. She was still his friend. She still loved him, but the way they all loved each other. The love that was built on goddamn happiness that they’d survived-- and were the reason the other survived. Maybe Nancy wouldn’t feel betrayed if she found out-- No, don’t think about it and you won’t say anything. Jonathan wasn’t going to say anything. He couldn’t risk it getting back to his brother’s friends and then, worse, his brother.
“So, Nancy,” Jonathan said between bites. “You and Steve again?”
“What?” Nancy said, her hair tickling Jonathan’s face as she turned.
“Pardon?” Eddie said.
Steve coughed up a similar noise of confusion.
“What?” Jonathan said. “You two are back together, right? I mean, isn’t that what this is? A double date?”
“Triple, bro.”
“Argyle!” Jonathan snapped, kicking him under the table.
“Uh, Steve and I aren’t together.” Nancy said, furrowing her eyebrows. “How did you get that?”
“We’re... at a pizza place and you two are here. And so are Robin and Eddie.” Jonathan said. It made sense to him; if there were four people, four was divisible by two, and those two sets of two people only made sense if they were Steve and Nancy and Robin and Eddie. And those pairs had to be couples. That was just how things worked.
“Jonathan, we’re not dating.” Nancy repeated. “I’m not dating Steve.”
“Oh. Okay. So you’re not dating Steve.” Jonathan nodded. “Robin, are you?”
“No.” Robin said slowly, drawing the word out. “Getting warmer.”
Was Jonathan feeling warmer? He didn’t think so.
“Wait, what?” Jonathan strained his focus. He looked back at Argyle, who was still just quietly eating his pizza, following Jonathan’s confusion around the table.
“There’s only one person left at this table.” Steve said with a sheepish laugh.
“Where?”
“He’s talking about Eddie, man.” Argyle said suddenly and very loudly. “I think Steve’s telling you he’s gay.”
“Okay, can you not scream?” Steve hushed, leaning forward to stare at Argyle. He didn’t move his arm from behind Eddie though. “Because that’s not exactly what I’m saying, but thanks for the connections.”
“Sorry, man. But dating a guy is kind of gay, historically.”
“It is not.” Jonathan cut in. He wasn’t gay. Like, not the same way other people were gay. He didn’t think so...
“Exactly, Jonathan gets it.” Steve said, motioning to him. “It’s just. Something that’s happening.”
"Respectfully, as the only non-delusional, mildly un-repressed gay person at this table, I don’t really think that’s how it works. Sometimes it means something.”
“Just a little something, though.” Nancy said.
"Wait,” Jonathan said blinking. “Why are you guys talking like everyone at this table is gay?”
“Aren’t we?” Argyle said, crunching his pizza crust.
“No! That’s what we’re saying!” Jonathan cried, swinging his arms out. Nancy pushed his arm down, eyes darting between Jonathan and Argyle.
“Wait, was that a ‘we’?”
“Huh?”
“Oh that was so a ‘we’, Byers.” Steve clapped a hand over his heart as he leaned back and laughed.
“What was? What’s going on?”
“Dude, they figured us out.” Argyle whispered.
“Because you told us!” Eddie cut in, pointing at Argyle with two wiggling pointer fingers.
“I’m so confused.” Jonathan sighed, holding his head in both hands.
“Jonathan,” Nancy said slowly. She was serious but still amused, Jonathan thought. “This is Robin. We’re... going out.”
“She says she experimenting but I think we’ve proven the hypothesis at this point.” Robin added, leaning forward on the table and propping her head up. She winked.
“Shut up!” Nancy said with a giggle. A giggle.
“And Jonathan, dude I barely know,” Eddie said with a slow lean into Steve’s side. “This is my boyfriend, Steve. You know Steve. Ladies man, local hottie. Secretly into dudes. Into me.”
“And everyone this is Jonathan!” Argyle held both his hands out to present him to the table. “We hang out a lot.”
“Right...” Steve nodded. “We got that.”
“Most of the time we make out.”
“Dude!” Jonathan hissed. He lifted a hand to cover his mouth but didn’t lower his voice. “They weren’t supposed to know that.”
“Oh, oops. Forget I said that.”
“Oh, that’s not likely. I will not forget that yet another Byers is gay.” Steve chuckled, grabbing another slice of pizza.
“Wait... Another? Who else is gay? M-My mom?” Silence fell over the table. Argyle kept chewing and crunching his crust. “Oh my god, my mom.”
“No...” Nancy said. “Uh, have you not been noticing when our brothers hang out? I mean. Not to spill their business but I’m pretty sure they call each other every other day and end it with I love you.”
“Little William’s gay for the lanky kid?” Argyle laughed. “Right on, man!”
“My brother is not gay.” Again, the table was silent. “He’s not. We can’t both be gay.”
“You’re gay?” Argyle asked. “Like for real?”
"Okay, maybe this is a conversation you two should have on your own.” Robin said softly, shaking her head. “And maybe a lot less stoned.”
“We’re not!”
“Guys... You came in holding hands.”

you’ve ruined my life by not being mine
Nancy asked, and Steve told her. Because it was only fair, really. She shared this big thing of her own, of course he’s going to give her something in return. Of course he’s going to tell her in so many words that maybe he’s a little bit gay and maybe Eddie Munson of all people does it for him.

🌻august bookshelf🌻
july recs | recs tag
I really enjoyed putting together a little fic rec list at the end of last month and decided to do it again!
🌻driving in your car by @kkpwnall - when I say the ultimate pining Steddie fic I MEAN IT. the use of the car as this sort of central, grounding force within Steve's world and the way the testing of his tether to Hawkins and the people in it plays out here is stunning, not to mention the HANDS and the ronance going on stage left and the complete and utter tenderness lying just beneath the surface. perfection I am swallowing it whole
🌻clueless by @gothbat99 - such a lovely short & sweet slice of life in the summer after they win the war, it feels SO important in its simplicity that Nancy and Robin are getting to behave like young people, all free and hopeful and discovering how to want/ be wanted. made my heart so big and warm in only 1k words like THAT !!! is so impressive, so worth your time, will make your day better guaranteed
🌻Faces Freedom with a Little Fear by @fragilecapric0rnn - literally Steve family-centric character study of all time, come swoon over big sister JJ Harrington and watch as her presence in his life creates a fullness and richness of growth and self-realization LIKE. I could bask in this world for the rest of forever and never get tired of its sincerity and depth and siblingisms, what a heart-squeezing delight from start to finish
🌻haunted hawkins by @hellsfireclub - starts with the brilliant premise of "what if it's not just Hawkins?" and RUNS with it, giving not just beautiful ruminations on both Nancy and Robin as they start a journey towards figuring out just how far the paranormal spreads and also a journey towards mutual self discovery and (: lesbianism (: READ THIS FIC.
🌻then I see you, you're walking 'cross the campus by stellarpoint (@heybluechild) - a lovely little peek at Steve and Nancy's friendship coming back together after they've come into their own a little bit and Nancy being so, so brave in coming out to him. truly this made my heart so big and full and warm i am carrying them gently in the palms of my hands
🌻this must be the place by @judasofsuburbia - JARGYLE CAMPING. the tenderness of this, the peace offered to Jonathan when he hasn't ever really known such a thing, the way they just sort of slot together and find and choose and become each other?? it's got me all soft in the heart and THAT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN. illegal actually. I'm weak in the knees :((
🌻Young, Scrappy, & Hungry by @fragilecapric0rnn - politics ronance rivals to lovers WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT ME TO SAY?? perfect dynamics already and I can't wait to see where these girls go. the characterizations of them is so REAL despite the very different world of Washington they've been dropped into and my lesbian, TWW-loving ass is feeling soooo normal about them SO normal don't worry about it
🌻The Warmth Pulls by TheDeathsWish - I'm not fully caught up on this one yet, but it is genuinely one of the most unique AUs I've come across so I have to mention it here. It's still 1986 and it's still Hawkins, but the sci-fi overlay is switched out for more purely fantasy elements, including some very cool and beautifully revealed eccentricities and abilities of the characters. Steddie but also so hugely dependent on the ensemble of it all, which you know I eat up, I'm excited to keep working my way through this one!
P.S. if you read and enjoy any of these, please remember to tip your writers in kudos and comments!💛

No offense to Vickie but when people say they ship Rockie(because the narrative told them to) but said they can't see Ronance as anything more than friends or don't see the chemistry....I just.
Most people who talk about Rockie talk about the *potential* of the actors, so like nothing that was given on the show. I'm not high and mighty on my ronance pedestal, ship as you ship(we love sapphics here!) And we're all here to enjoy our characters.
But it's in the way people try and disregard/ignore the true "show, not tell." aspect of Ronance.
The way Robin and Nancy look at each other with full eyes. The little fond smiles they share(in the woods and at the bottom of the stairs in the wheeler basement to name a few instances)
The tone in which Nancy says "you really are a weird runner. THE TONE! Her expression. Please explain that.
Robin when *she* put Nancy in charge. Like SHE did that. Her tone there, it's so definite but in a soft fond manner??
Robin getting down on one knee for Nancy, Robin snooping through Nancy's room and then remembering Nancy's music taste(they could've easily instead had Steve know anything about Nancy's music taste, but no it was Robin), the hand hold in the upside down plus immediate soft reassurance from Nancy. It's just in the way they naturally find comfort and safety with each other??
Robin stepping up in the Ruth and Rose interview thing. The way Nancy is impressed and definitely a little hot and bothered(like please jot her down because those expressions in that moment... just yes)
Nancy is usually the one always having to stick up for herself. To fight while someone by her side doesn't stick with her. But in that moment Robin says *I'm right here with you Nance* and just steamrolled the operation towards success.

Cold sheets + ronance (please! xoxo)
I was going to write something sad for this, and then I remembered that I could just write smut LOL Thank you for this, dear @crushcandles! I hope you enjoy it! Thanks to everyone who's already sent me Stranger Things femslash prompts! I've already got a few more lined up, but please keep them coming! Explicit sex behind the cut. No serious warnings, although if the thought of someone putting their whole body weight on top of you isn't for you, maybe give this a miss. Also I guess it kind of vaguely counts as temperature play?
Robin wakes to find that the other side of the bed is still empty. When she slides her hand across the sheets, they’re cold under her fingers. If she listens carefully, she can hear the clatter of Nancy’s typing from the living room. So she’s still working, then, at—Robin squints at the luminous display of Nancy’s alarm clock—two-thirteen A.M.
Robin groans into her pillows and reaches blindly for the covers, which seem to have wandered off while she was asleep. The bedroom is surprisingly cold, the air raising goosebumps on the bare backs of Robin’s thighs. She rubs one socked foot against her ankle and whines. It’s not that it would be difficult to get up and pull the sheets off of the floor, it’s just that she’s loathe to give up what little warmth is left between her body and the mattress. Still half-asleep, she can’t stand the thought of getting all the way out of bed to retrieve the sheets, only to climb back in and find they’ve lost their last vestiges of heat. She’d much rather lie here and feel sorry for herself that Nancy’s not here to warm her up—just for a minute or two.
“OK?”
Robin cranes her neck to look over her shoulder, and can just barely make out Nancy standing in the dark doorway of the bedroom. She’s wearing Robin’s stretched-out old IU sweatshirt, which is oversized even on Robin, almost comical on Nancy.
“’S cold,” Robin mumbles, her sleep-muddled complaint coming out petulant.
Robin can practically hear Nancy’s amusement at her expense, but she just hunkers down against the mattress and says, “Someone should come warm me up.”
A moment later, the mattress sinks down beside her, and then Nancy is pressed against her back, so warm she’s almost a brand on Robin’s chilled skin.
“Like this?” Nancy murmurs into Robin’s hair.
“Mm-hmm.” The weight of Nancy’s whole body is delicious, pressing her hips against the mattress.
Nancy dips her head to nuzzle Robin’s neck and says, mock-saccharine, “Did you miss me?”
Robin whines again—pathetic in a different way, this time. “Uh-huh,” she says, and squirms a little for good measure.
Nancy laughs, and then slips one hand between, Robin’s body and the sheets, past her hip, finding the seam of her with unerring precision. “Is this what you want?” she breaths against Robin’s ear, her voice husky, not teasing anymore.
“Yeah,” Robin gasps, jumping under Nancy’s touch.
Nancy doesn’t hesitate after that, working Robin’s clit roughly in the tight space beneath her body. It’s unbelievable how fast Nancy can turn her on. Robin wasn’t even thinking about sex a minute ago, and now she’s aching for it, so eager for Nancy, and, fuck, it’s good, as she rocks her hips into Nancy’s touch, their combined weight bearing her down against the quick, sweet movement of Nancy’s fingers.
“Feeling warmer now?” Nancy asks, and all Robin can do is nod, sweating where Nancy’s breasts are pressed against her back, and slick between her clenched-together thighs. Her breath comes in shuddering gasps, flaring humid across the sheets. She feels wrapped up in Nancy, held, lit from the inside.
“I’ve been thinking about you all night,” Nancy breathes as she leans down to kiss Robin’s neck. “Kept telling myself that when I got to a stopping point, I’d come in here and wake you up so I could fuck you.”
Robin sobs, her cunt hot and tense under Nancy’s touch. Every inch of her skin tingles, and she feels sure if someone were watching, they’d see sparks crackling where she’s rubbing against the sheets.
“I can’t believe how good you looked, all sprawled out on the bed like that, waiting for me,” Nancy continues. “Almost makes me want to leave and come back, just so I can admire you some more.”
Robin fucks her hips back against Nancy’s hand, desperate for even more friction. “Nancy, please.”
“Please what?”
How can Nancy’s fingers move so quickly? Robin’s head is spinning, her hips trembling. “Please, please,” she gasps. She can’t remember what she was supposed to say.
Nancy’s breath is hot against her cheek. She’s hot, she’s so hot, she’s going to die of it, she’s sure. “Did you want to come?”
With a desperate shudder, that’s exactly what Robin does, a hot, slick clench against Nancy’s fingers, hips jerking helplessly. She feels Nancy buck on top of her, almost thrown off Robin’s back by the intensity of the tremor that shakes her.
“Oh, fuck,” Robin gasps, when she can breathe again. Nancy is still touching her, lazily now, with none of the wicked intent of a moment ago, just appreciating how luxuriously wet she is. “Fuck, Nance, you’re so good to me.”
Nancy kisses her hair, breathing in deep the scent of her sweat. “Not too heavy? Want me to get off of you?”
“Not yet,” Robin says, though her eyelids already drooping. “Just a little longer.”

only bought this dress so you could take it off
(lil Ronance modern AU, neighbors kinda thing)
Robin’s already in pajamas when someone knocks on her door. And by pajamas she means she’s wearing boxers and a bleach stained shirt she stole from Steve. So she’s not exactly thrilled to get up. And why should she anyway? Sunday nights are sacred, especially now that classes started back up. It’s the one night of the week where Steve’s gone for basketball practice and she can watch whatever she wants on the TV in the living room. She loves Steve, platonic soulmates and all that jazz, but she can’t for the life of her get him to enjoy the wonders of competitive cooking shows. Like right now. A woman on the screen tilts a skillet over the fire, cooking a steak to absolute perfection as Robin pops another handful of M&Ms into her mouth. It’s quality entertainment. If she gets up now, she might miss something important. What if that woman overcooks her steak? Maybe if she keeps quiet the person will just go away. “I can hear the TV!” the voice comes through the wall, too muffled to recognize. “I need some help!” And then, after a short silence. “Please?” She rolls herself off the couch with a groan, doesn’t even care if the mystery guest can hear it. She runs a quick hand through her hair to make herself somewhat presentable opens the door and- Oh fuck. It’s her. Nancy. Their new next door neighbor and coincidentally the most beautiful person she’s ever laid eyes on. Robin clutches the doorpost so hard it hurts because her elevator crush is two feet away from her, dressed in deep blue, skintight satin. Nancy’s hair is pinned to the side and she’s holding her strapless dress up at the neckline. “Can you zip me?” she asks with a sheepish grin. “I’m running late and I’m all by myself.” Her heels make them almost the same height, but Nancy is still an inch short, leaving her to look up at Robin through her thick, black lashes. She doesn’t usually wear this much make-up. Wherever she’s going, she’s trying to impress someone. When Robin doesn’t speak, Nancy turns her back, revealing a long stretch of exposed skin. The zipper goes all the way down to her lower back. There’s a little mole next to her spine, which is a thing that Robin knows about her now, and it feels far too intimate. “Uh sure…” she mumbles. “Just… What do you…?” “It’s just a zipper, Robin.” Nancy’s back is turned, but she can hear the grin is her voice. “I’m you can figure it out.” She swallows hard. Nancy knows her name. Of course she does. They’ve talked a handful of times when they happened to enter the lobby at the same time. She came to introduce herself when she moved in last month. Still it’s weird that she takes up any mental real estate for this girl so beautiful it physically hurts. Robin takes the end of the zipper between two careful fingers, but it doesn’t budge. “It’s a bit finicky,” Nancy says and she tilts her head to the side, exposing even more of the bare skin around her neck. “Just give it a good tug.” Fucking hell. Robin places a hand on Nancy’s waist for leverage and zips the dress along the curve of her spine. She’s not wearing a bra, strapless and all, and Robin’s trying really hard not to think about that. “So where are you going?” she asks and then she just keeps talking. “You got a date? A boyfriend?” She clenches her jaw and crosses her fingers that didn’t sound weird. Just polite conversation. Making acquaintance. Right?  “Oh, God no.” Nancy turns around and smooths down the fabric over her hips. “I have yet to find a man in this city worth dressing up for.” “Tell me about it,” Robin says in a lame attempt at a joke. Nancy no doubt has different reasons for her lack of interest in the men around these parts. Like being objectively out of everyone’s league. Unlike Robin, who realized she was a lesbian back in middle school and hasn’t looked at a man since. Well, she’s technically looked at Steve, if you wanna get literal about it. But he doesn’t count. That’s practically her brother. “Nah, I’ve got a work thing,” Nancy says and she rolls her eyes. “Office party I can’t really skip.”  Robin vaguely remembers an elevator conversation where Nancy told her she worked in publishing. “Well, you look great,” she squeaks. Nancy smiles, showing off the dimples that kickstarted the elevator crush all those weeks ago. “You’re so sweet.” She doesn’t even break eye contact as she says it. Robin can feel her cheeks flush and she mentally prepares herself to scream into her pillow the second this door closes. “Which reminds me,” Nancy adds with a coy smile. “I have a little housewarming coming up next Friday. You and uh…. Steve was it?” Robin nods. “Well, you and Steve are definitely invited.” For a brief moment, Nancy’s eyes flick past her so she can sneak a glance into the living room. “Starts at eight, be sure to ask him too.” Oh. Was that her goal? Was she hoping Steve would answer? That makes sense. “We’d love to,” Robin says with a polite smile. “I’ll tell Steve, I think he’s free that night.” Nancy runs her hands along her sides one more time, smoothing down the already flawless curve of her dress. “That’d be lovely,” she says and before she turns she adds; “Can’t wait.”

Strong Grasp of Social Cues
I'd like to thank the anonymous person that send this prompt. Gonna be honest I slightly struggled with this one so I really hope you like it. If you don't feel free to let me know and either just complain about it or give me a second chance. I understand either way. The prompt was Robin being oblivious to Nancy flirting with her.
As always you can send me any and all ronance prompts here.
I don’t have a filter or a strong grasp of social cues.
That’s what Robin had said. It had been an explanation, or maybe an excuse, at the time. She had been trying to ease the tension. When she had said it Nancy had been annoyed. And scared. And she had barely known Robin.
Now she thought back to that moment with a new clarity. Because that must be why Robin hadn’t responded as Nancy had so hoped these past two months. The only other option was that Nancy had been reading it all wrong, that Robin just really wasn’t into her, and that couldn’t be possible. At least Nancy was hoping it wasn’t possible. She wasn’t sure what she’d do if it was possible. So, she chose not to think that way.
The bell above the Family Video entrance rang through the store. The empty store. Entirely empty. Nancy frowned at the front desk where Robin was supposed to be. She knew Robin always worked on thursdays. Even if she didn't, there ought to be someone present to help with picking out movies and to make sure no one was stealing anything.
She tapped her fingers against the surface, waiting, thinking, contemplating what her next move should be. When Robin would eventually come out Nancy had to be prepared.
“Just a second.” A voice sounded from the back of the store. Not just a voice. Robin’s raspy voice. It didn’t take long for the girl to rush into view. “Nance? Hi.”
“Hey.” Nancy responded, slightly thrown off by Robin’s bright smile. There was no way that Robin wasn’t into her. She had to be into her. Please let Robin be into her.
“Renting or returning?” Robin asked, having positioned herself at the other side of the counter. Too far away.
“Neither. I just wanted to see you.” She slipped into that sultry tone she had perfected before the world collapsed.
“Honestly, I’m a little relieved. Steve has the day off and I’ve gotten no more than 2 customers today. 2, Nance. It’s not like I particularly enjoy amusing the whims and demands of the people in Hawkins but it definitely beats sitting around and doing nothing for 4 hours. 4 hours, Nance.” It was easy to get lost in Robin’s rambles and usually Nancy would allow herself to. But not today. Today she had a mission.
“I hope I can make your day better.” She batted her eyelashes and felt ridiculous. But it had always worked on Jonathan.
“You always do.” Wait, was she flirting? Was it finally working? “I love having my friends around.” Okay, maybe not.
“You know what I was thinking?” Nancy continued, not giving up.
“It would be very weird if I did.”
“I was thinking, we should go out tonight.” That was quite direct. For the first time she saw confusion wash over Robin. Just for a moment before her smile returned and she nodded.
“Sounds fun. What were you thinking? Movie? Milkshakes? I’ll ask Steve if he wants to join.”
“I don’t want Steve there.” Nancy said quickly, slightly panicking.
“Why not?” Robin frowned.
“You know what, forget it. I guess I was wrong after all.”
“Wrong? Wrong about what?” Robin was shaking her head as if she was trying to convey that Nancy could never be wrong about anything.
“About you wanting to go out with me.”
“I’d love to go out with you. I just said that.”
“You want to go out with Steve.”
“Why is it such a problem if he joins? I thought you guys were friends now.”
“We are friends, it’s just that…” Nancy pinched the bridge of her nose. “It would kind of be uncomfortable to flirt with my ex’s best friend while my ex is sitting next to me.”
“Flirting?” Robin whispered to herself. “Wait, are you-?”
“Flirting with you? Have been for 2 months.” Nancy admitted.
“So when you asked me to go out you meant…”
“As a date.”
“And when you said I looked good in a tie you weren’t just being friendly?”
Nancy frowned, searching through her memory. “Oh my God, Robin. I didn’t say you looked good in a tie. I said you looked sexy in a tie. You thought that was a friendly compliment?”
“Kind of. Best friends compliment each other.” Robin defended herself.
“How often has Steve called you sexy?”
Robin shuddered before shaking her head. “Okay I see it now. Sexy is not exactly friendly. In my defense I don’t have a strong grasp of social cues.”
Nancy beamed at the girl in front of her. “I remember. So, is that a yes?”
“A yes?”
“For tonight? Movie and milkshakes and hopefully a kiss goodnight if everything goes well.” Nancy leaned over the counter.
“Oh!” Robin’s eyes widened as a soft blush covered her cheeks. “Yes! Yes. Definitely yes.”

watcha reading?
here we go! I went a long stretch where I wasn't reading much fic at all but I've been catching up lately (the past week fjdkslj) (I've been tagged in this a couple times I think but I can't recall by who I've just had this draft in progress for a while I'm SORRY :/ )
Anyway, It's About Old Friends by @fragilecapric0rnn - endlessly complex and such a feast of character dynamics and the way they shift and change and grow over time, I cannot recommend this one enough, it's the post-UD When Harry Met Sally AU that you NEED in your life
god has never loved a woman the way I do by @judasofsuburbia - the second part in a wild west au series that is so full and real and unbelievably tender that I simply don't know what to do with myself about it. For both parts (Steddie pt. 1 and Ronance pt. 2) there is so much beautiful rumination on the nature of choice for these people and the simultaneous risk and worthiness of choosing each other like. help me???
and they were roommates by @yournowheregirl - I've only read the first part in this series but I can't wait to dive further into it. Ronance finding that no matter how nervous they were to actually go after each other there is actually so much natural simplicity to touching and feeling and kissing and!!!! joyful PWP for the girls it's what they deserve
never made it to graceland by @cheatghost - beautifully, gorgeously, perpetually ominous first chapter with such perfect Eddie-isms and Munson Family Moments and prose, just the first chapter alone has me feeling deeply fulfilled while still so ready for more. I am a lover of "the world ended but we're still here" and this is already giving me that in DROVES please join me in scratching at the walls about it
I Look to You to See the Truth by @sharpbutsoft the Erica Sinclair coming of age in her freshman year of college-slash- lesbian self discovery story of my DREAMS featuring your favorite idiot4idiot steddie and dearest robin and overall what a delight from start to finish
P.S. if you read and enjoy any of these, spread the love by letting the authors know! the community of fandom thrives when we talk to each other 💜
open tag for anyone who wants to join in on this! say I tagged you and share your newest faves with us, I wanna see 'em!

I feel like people these days are getting WAY too comfortable with just expecting/demanding things to go exactly the way that they want in TV shows, and I'm seeing a lot of it in the Stranger Things fandom with season 4 coming out. Like, obviously you're allowed to be annoyed about certain plot points and character beats if you dont like them, and you can voice your opinions on what would have made them better, but I don't understand all these people that I'm seeing getting mad/disappointed with the writers because things aren't happening the way that they themself wanted. You can't get mad at the writers for writing the story that they want to tell and not the one you want to see. It doesn't make it bad writing, it doesn't make it bad character development, it doesn't make it a bad show, it just makes it something that you personally don't like and that's fine.
With Stranger Things 4 I'm mostly talking about the stuff I've been seeing people say about ship dynamics. Ship whoever you want, that's your prerogative, but don't get mad at the Duffers and the writing team for not writing your ship into canon. You ship Byler? Good for you, I'm glad you have this thing that you enjoy, but don't go around calling the writers cowards or homophobic for not making it canon. It doesn't have to be canon. You don't like the Stancy arc this season? Me neither, but I'm not mad at the writers for writing their characters the way that they want to, and I'm certainly not using faulty logic to argue with their decisions. Steddie(Steveddie?) and Ronance (is that the ship name?) are cute, and they don't have to be canon for you to enjoy them.
Obviously I'm not talking about the vast majority of people and shippers, but I've seen some people acting really fucking entitled about their shipping opinions this season and it just makes me kind of annoyed because it's not your show? Like, write fanfic if you want content for your ship. Fanon is just as legitimate a way to enjoy media as canon. A show doesn't have to do exactly what you want it to for you to enjoy it, and it certainly doesn't have to do what you want it to for it to be good.
And I also wanted to address the weird amount of Eddie hate I've been seeing because people think he's a Billy copy? I mean, if you truly believe that then fine, I'm not going to tell you that you're wrong, but I just don't see it? I see maybe 3 reasons why there could be a logical argument for that, but they're all super surface level. I don't think Eddie is anything like Billy, and I think a lot of people don't actually think he's a Billy copy but they just don't like that a new character has been brought in to, what it feels like to them, "replace" a character that they liked. Eddie is a good new character and he deserves for people to give him a chance. I don't mean to shit on your fav but canon Billy kinda sucked, and I think what a lot of people are seeing in Eddie as what makes him a copy of Billy is actually their thoughts on Billy in fanon. Idk, if you have an actual logical argument for why Eddie is a Billy copy I'm down to hear it, but don't expect me to agree.
I just think that sometimes people need to take a step back and realise that the writers are not obligated to cater to your singular opinion, and if the choices they make mean that you don't like the show anymore then that's fine, you don't have to keep watching. But honestly, I hate it when people let their opinions turn the fandom toxic and I really want to avoid that as much as possible so please please just tone it down with the vitriol towards the writers and towards each other. We're all allowed to enjoy or not enjoy things in whatever way we want.
