_________________________________________
It was a daily and the usual afternoon... A very usual daily afternoon of the agency, well just simple workspaces filled up from desk to desk of the current employees doing the usual like any other regular people would. No new cases were brought up for the time being so it's just the normal work just needing to be piled up and passed to the chief and the other higher-ups in the police alongside with the agency policies. For clearly, it was a normal afternoon within the busy streets of the city with the brighten of the sun sharing its rays to spread throughout the city till for a couple of hours for it to enter its sunsets upon it. Apparently one of their best detectives and is also a female detective is currently on errands at her family's restaurant and is quickly busy right after her shift ended and now entered her second afternoon schedule, which many wondered within the office how she'd managed to get more energy for the whole working long hours within the morning till lunch and proceed to do her restaurant job? Well that's their 'best detective' being a busy worker.
Well the sounds of the chattering of the employees were within the workspace as the door eventually opened, revealing the pink-haired girl within her usual clothing attire and was carrying rather lots of packaged food, it appears she's on her last delivery which it was supposed for the agency she's working on. One of the officers stood up from their seats the minute they saw the young girl holding their orders in neatly packaged boxes and placed in plastics that were easy to carry for the young girl. She managed to offer the remaining ones to her co-workers, including one very happy Leroy who managed to get a catch of his sushi order from her, after knowing her cooking skills were, he didn't hesitate to grab a snack from it. And eventually he was the last one to get his box as Leroy managed to grab it with a cheeky smile which Lynette gave a chuckle.
"Sup, Lynn. Busy as usual, eh?" He smiled as he held his sushi box with the usual smile which Lynette gave him a good laugh.
"The usual as you know it, but then again at least I'm busy for a while till a new case comes up soon." Lynette replied as she then checked on her list of orders, that seems to be the last one to be settled with.
"Sometimes you gotta get the flow you on the go, but then again. That's you being you, Lynn."
"The same goes for you when it comes to relaxing daily, I should probably have a small break or two."
"Haha! you gotta follow it the Leroy's style~!"
As the two fist-bumped each other, Lynette then took a turn within the workspace and eventually noticed that someone isn't here in the office while Leroy eventually opened his delivery and dig in with delight as he started chewing his food.
"I don't see Mellow around here.. Strange." Lynette stated as she mumbled, that is till Leroy answered her question.
"Oh about that, Little Mel is under the weather. So he's on leave due to catching a cold right now." The purple-haired male replied before he could take a bite of his food.
"He's sick today...? I see..." Lynette repeated after getting the news from him as she then saw Leroy and her other co-workers eating the delivered pick-up food, she was looking rather surprised to hear that coming from Leroy who is also Mellow's childhood best friend but remained calm afterward. The reaction was rather interesting to see from another's perspective. Leroy took a glimpse of her expression towards it and pretty much had an idea of it, because he saw an extra order that was meant for Mellow who isn't here in the office.
The thing was Mellow was Lynette's assistant on the job within the agency and its cases within this office by the two, despite the fact that he got the job from the help of Leroy without any rebuttal, he only worked as one of the assistants for a while... Except on that day when Lynette got in as a new detective from the recruiting by the chiefs of the agency Quinn and Henry, but the pink-haired girl's recruitment in the agency was rather a huge messy one due to a murder incident that Lynette was involved with before it went smoothly.... What's much more unfortunate is that the killer had clearly almost dragged both Mellow and Lynette into the mess as well but it was then both of their talents blossomed during the investigation. Lynette alongside with Mellow had to prove their innocence without backing out, what's more surprising is that Lynette also identified and caught the killer that led her on a chase at them which Mellow had to call back-up for assistance since Lynette herself was kind of take life-or-death risk which it was enough to worry for, poor Mellow had gotten to a nearly heart-attack from seeing it himself which led Leroy and the others knowing that girl has a strong sense of justice but in a cost price with her own life. But in the end with the arestment, Quinn had offered her a job and even let Mellow to be her assistant after that.
Henry and Leroy were wondering why he'd done it but, to Quinn who is odd in the eye but fun to hangout with but quite a troublesome fellow for Lynette's workload, he stated that he sees the potential in both of them as partners for incoming cases in the future, although the two couldn't get that question across but it seems that get got most of words, well that's for Leroy though not Henry who got confused but he went along with it in the end. And as a result, Lynette became one of the young recruits for the detective workload in the company with Mellow as her fleshed newly assistant. Of course, Lynette had apologized to him about the mess that happened since she was waiting for a chance to talk to him but Mellow told her that none of it was her fault and this resulted for the two to become friends afterward and eventually worked for the agency. Though a few such as Leroy and Quinn might have noticed but then- there's something else that had blossomed aside from their potential as well but Lynette didn't see it.
"Man, I thought he was around in the office by this hour... But nevermind, I still need to deliver mushroom stew to him before it gets wasted." Lynette muttered as she looked at the last box which was meant for Mellow, but since he was sick and on temporary leave due to his fever Lynette was rather stuck.
"Well then, how about drop by his place?" Leroy stated that Lynette turned around by the time he said his word, eventually he was almost finishing his plate.
"Guess that's quicker to finish the job, but I don't know his address and location though..." Lynette stated as Leroy then stood up from his seat and then took a piece of paper and then wrote it down with a pen, this made Lynette know that he was writing the address down for her.
"Here, I'm pretty sure you know where this neighborhood is, but his house is on the right side near where the general park is," Leroy replied as he handed the paper to Lynette she looked at the address as Leroy explained where to start looking around the neighborhood, eventually Lynette her thanks to him as she left the office with her scooter to mark her last delivery.
.
.
.
Passing by the quiet town of the neighborhood within the written address from Leroy, Lynette noticed the sunsetting within the atmosphere which made the lovely neighborhood in the city rather beautiful to look at. This neighborhood is located to where the lighthouse is across the island nearby at the west in this neighborhood, which is why it has said to believed to be the best spot for romantic dates for a couple's aniversary day. The pink-haired girl was admiring the view from her scooter as she drove around the neighborhood as she looked from house to house till she arrived at the last one which it was colored red and was filled with gardens of crops and flowers, she then had arrived at her stop.
"...so, this is Mellow's home." She muttered under her breath, apparently she's okay on visiting her friends houses whenever a delivery is over for her stead, but she never stepped foot in a boy's house before such like Mellow or her other male co-workers back in the agency, most of her stay houses were her female buddies on her break stead. Lynette then went up to the door and eventually rang the doorbell and was about to wait but instead the door opened, there stood a red-haired woman who seems to be similar to Mellow's red hair, the sudden surprise startled Lynette as held Mellow's food box order, eventually the red-haired woman was surprised to see a visitor this hour of the sunsetting but it was then she recognized the box that she was holding and eventually noticed her startled face.
"Are you the delivery woman for my son's food?" She asked which Lynette had silently nodded.
"Yes, I am.." Lynette muttered, trying to recover from the surprise that happened earlier. It was then she was greeted with a gentle smile.
"I see, my poor son was hoping for his delivery that he couldn't leave the bed since he needed to rest, but I thank you, young lady." The woman replied looking rather worried for her son, which it was enough to Lynette to puzzle it in her mind, the woman standing at the door here is Mellow's mother.
"I see..."
"By any chance.. Are you the detective that my son has been paired with?"
"...uh- yes...? It's hard to explain- Especially the mess that was settling on me-"
"To think my son has met a fine young girl like you! I was wondering what kind of girl you were after he'd mentioned that his partner was a girl. But you're absolutely adorable!"
The pink-haired girl then eventually stayed pure silent as she looked of how happy Mrs. Mildew was, even her , Lynette was not expecting this sudden sunset event after her busy morning and afternoon till night routine. Despite herself, this was the first time for her... Well someone from Mellow's family that is. The girl has no idea of what to say next since the conversation had go keep going. But before she could talk, Mrs. Mildew then spoke another question.
"Are you planning on heading back, my dear?"
"Yeah, it's getting late for me right now, I'll be heading back to my home now-"
"It won't be much but, would you like to join for dinner tonight?"
".... Huh? Join you... For dinner?"
This was eventually sudden for Lynette, she was invited to dinner... In the Mildew household? As if her brain was trying to process a bit, she then blinked as Mrs. Mildew answered her question after that.
"Of course, my sister and husband won't mind a visitor like you joining us for tonight, and surely my son will be surprised to see you once he wakes from his bed!" Mrs. Mildew explained, which Lynette was rattled but then again she can't refused her invitation. Huffing at least one breath, Lynette agreed to her invitation as Mrs. Mildew offered her inside of the house as the sun then set from the view.
-------------------------------------
Mellow eventually sighed while sweating and in a bright feverish red color around his cheeks, laying on his bed in his room as he noticed the day slowly ended as night time entered. He cough this fever during the rain on his weekends till the next morning his aunt noticed his being drowsy and feverish which resulted him to take the leave from the agency. He was awake for a while till then he felt drowsy and fell asleep to rest more after taking his medicine that his father gave him. Mellow felt pretty much on himself rather stupid for getting soaked on the rain and now he got this situation. Plus, he was supposed to pick up his delivery order from Lynette back from the agency and wondered if she ever got it delivered here in his house, but then again he didn't give her his home address and wondered for a while...
In his bedroom, the lights were turned off but the fireflies light around at some parts of his room were light up in a soft dim glow, just to soothe the red-haired boy's eyes from the brightness from turning on the lights if he ever flipped the switch to turn on the lights or nor, however he feels that his fever is being effected by the medicine he took earlier but Mellow was still drowsy as his eyes were closed as time then eventually passed on, but little did he know that something rather happened while he was resting on his bed for the whole afternoon till sunset.
He was sleeping on the other side of his bed near at the wall, sleeping soundly and in peace but little did he know that an hour ago while sleeping to rest for a while, something or someone entered in the dim room rather unannounced, well more like they stood behind the bed as they eventually only sat beside the bedside and eventually fell asleep alongside with him...
.
.
.
About two whole hours has passed as nightfall entered with the full moon appearing in the dark sky as the lights then filled up from one after another, and eventually Mellow slowly woke up from his long hour nap, he then touched his forehead and realized that his fever eventually died down and went back to his normal body temperature. He sighed in relief that his fever is now gone and eventually glad, he could go back to work and will pick up his delivery tomorrow... Or so as he thought as he was about to reach for his lights with a flip of his fingers- a sudden surprise awaited for... Two.
Once Mellow turn on his lights in a very drowsy state, he was now facing rather another face near his bedside of his bedroom. A certain pink-haired girl was also napping peacefully but only her head on the mattress alongside with her arms as the rest of her body laid on the floor, but the pink-haired girl's face was covered with her arms but as the lights were turned on, caused her to flinch- as the two drowsy ones looked at each face to face.
Both eyes went wide awake immediately.
"AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH-!!!!"
Mellow was startled as Lynette backed herself away from him, causing both faces to be rather flushed in both pink and red. Well for likely more for Mellow than Lynette though if you think of the picture here.
"L-L-L-LYNETTE?! WHA- I- HOW DID YOU-?!" Mellow stuttered, becoming much more red to match to his red-colored hair, he wasn't expecting to see his detective partner in his house- no, in his own bedroom right now. His eyes surely went spiralling immediately as Lynette got her composure back.
"Mellow! There's an explanation for all of it, and please don't pass out or you won't hear it from my perspective!" Lynette yelled back, as Mellow then eventually stopped himself as Lynette explained what had led her here to his house. Eventually this led him to know the whole picture afterward. This called Mellow down as he took a breath to calm down. But the atmosphere in the room felt rather awkward for him now that she's here...
To tell the truth in his POV by eye of vision or mind of thinking, ever since he first met her back on that highschool case months ago, truly it was nothing more than serious mixed with chaos in between for much that Mellow couldn't handle it but that's when he met Lynette midway in the process till they got dragged into more trouble than before... But the sheer minute he witnesses of her life-or-death risks during the arrestment of the true culprit, Mellow couldn't help but get into rather twenty-five stages of shocks mixed in grief of worries and many more. He could have gotten another heart attack if it weren't for the other officers in the agency to finish the work right after Lynette and her deductions alongside with Mellow with his assistance by each suspects. Mellow wasn't expecting to become her assistance and partner in hand afterward, well as time goes by... He eventually gained rather a simple crush on her but then it turned into true feelings of love after she managed to rescue him during on a bombing case and stayed by his side at the office till nightfall, naturally he fell for her actions and personality of a human being but Lynette was a bit dense like a rock for herself to notice something he's taking his time to prepare. He'd still remember those crazy memories with her during work and free time but didn't managed himself to find the courage to confess to her himself but he needed the timing... But it always gets stopped by work or chaos piling up much for his luck for everytime as he tried.
But she's invited in his own house by his mother, which it crumbled him as he can feel his heart beating out of rhythm and is about to explode but Lynette took the word to break off the silence.
"You seems to feel better Mel, how's recovery going for you?" She asked as she shook her head, taking this conversation slow and steady.
"Y-Yeah... My temperature lowered a bit so I'm okay now, sorry to worry you. Did I missed anything back from the agency?" Mellow replied as he pick up his glasses that were nearby at his desk.
"No, just usual paperwork but due to your sick leave it's being handled by Quinn for now, so you're okay till you get back in top shape." Lynette stated as she sat herself down properly to make herself comfortable.
"Ah... I see. But Lynn... It's hard to believe that you're in my room, you know..." The red-haired boy muttered rather in a shy voice.
"Well about that- Your mother alongside with your aunt had invited and agreed for me to join you and your family for dinner for tonight." Lynette mentioned as she avoided eye-contact as Mellow eyes went wide the minute she'd spoke it.
"Huh?! My mom-?!"
"Mel, I can't turn her down like that!!"
"I know! But-"
"Wait just a minute. Mel don't move."
Before another word was spoke Lynette stood up, it looks like she'd noticed something that was off of place which Mellow eventually stopped his words as he noticed her coming forward which his heart then went out of hand.
"L-Lynn..?" Mellow spoke which it sounds like a stutter of missing words as she reached her hand out for his hair, making him flushed in red and wondered what she's doing.
"There's a speck on your head, don't move for a bit." Lynette then went through his hair to get the dust of his head, her balance was tipped over due to the floor since she was wearing socks- causing the pink-haired girl to lose her balance on her stance on the bed and tripped over on the red-haired boy. Which caused the two to panick and scream again once more... The situation became... Different.
Lynette managed to stop her herself from landing on Mellow's body but as her eyes we're closed shut till she stopped the impact on herself- but as she opened her eyes, there stood herself on top of him, seeing Mellow's flushed red face but to her it looked rather...charming in her perspective. Mellow also opened his eyes as well to find Lynette's startled but for him it was... Very attractive than her positive cuteness. But they went back to reality like a snap, both stayed silent as their faces didn't flushed as much like before because it was too close of their faces to handle but this?
Was a hold new different level for them .
"..................eh? Wha-"
Before they say another word, both eyes went wide to realize but then they heard footsteps coming- The one who opened the door was eventually Mellow's father, who looked rather in concern due to the double screams that he and his wife and sister-in-law kept hearing from the kitchen and dinner room. But when he opened the door just to see Mellow still on the bed but stood up in a sitting position and Lynette distanced herself away from Mellow just as the door opened. The two were sweating and red which made Mr. Mildew pretty confused of the situation.
"Son? Is everything okay? We hear you both screaming.." The father asked, which he pretty much went confused to see their red faces flushed more than the previous ones.
"N-Nothing Dad... Just an accident or two... It wasn't serious..." Mellow stampered, hoping to hide what had actually happened as Lynette stayed in pure silent.
"I see... For some reason, you both looked like there was euphoria being settled here... Or was I seeing things?" Mr. Mildew added, which the arrow had been struck by the two or a giant rock crashed their mind which caused them to say silently no at him quickly as they could, hoping really he doesn't get the wrong idea.
"Maybe not, but I'm here telling you both that dinner is almost finished. We'll call you down afterward." The man mentioned as he then left the room with footsteps being heard going down stairs. Both Lynette and Mellow sighed in relief... But with the word 'euphoria' was enough to cause the two to shake and sweat a lot, which it sounds like they were both crossing the deed.... Which it was not true.
".......sorry about before. Slippery on socks on floors." Lynette spoke which it was an apology.
"...it was an accident, it's nothing to be sorry about..." Mellow replied back as the two then looked at each other in the eye directly in contact, then Lynette laughed awkwardly as she then flashed an awkward-like smile at Mellow.
"Anyways, put all of that aside... I'd look forward to dinner fun with you tonight... If it's not much.."
"....yeah. You'll be just okay.."
As a simple day turns into a night of a ball between them once they were called down for dinner, to the both...?
The heart lies to where it's going...

[Love at first... murder? - part 12]

Part 1
Ao3
---
Somewhere else, in a seemingly abandoned building on the outskirts of the city, a figure shrouded in darkness and wearing a dark cloak plots.
In front of them is a whiteboard. It’s covered in pictures, sticky notes, and illegible texts. Some of the notes thrown about that are legible are ‘fight…’, ‘draw blood.’, and ‘DEATH!!!’.
There’s a crude stick figure drawn in the corner of the board, it’s impaled. Other small doodles can also be found all around the board.
Most of the information and pictures are connected by red strings, like you see in movies.
In the middle is a picture of 2 people sitting on a motorcycle, the arms of the person sitting in the back are around the waist of the person sitting in the front. The picture has some arrows pointing towards it and the people in the picture are very obviously circled.
Though the face of the person driving the motorcycle is obscured by their helmet, the other person seems to be heavily blushing and grinning broadly.
“Yes… yes! That’s it! I know what to do…” They seem to be speaking to themselves.
Quickly, the person scribbles down a barely legible ‘sacrifice!!‘.
They start cackling.
“Mwuahaha!”
It’s an evil laugh they’ve been working on for quite a while now, and they’re pretty proud of it.
However, the effect is slightly ruined when a fly enters their mouth, cutting off their cackling with choking as they gasp for air, grasping at their throat.
A few good thumps against their chest, with some coughing out their lungs, helps them dislodge the fly from their throat and they spit it out on the ground. They take a few deep breaths before straightening up again.
“Curse you” the person exclaims, angrily waving their fist at the fly as it flies away.
---
Bruce’s face gives off nothing as he stares at the streets down below. He’s dressed as Batman, crouched at the edge of a building with Damian by his side as Robin. Spoiler, Black Bat, Nightwing, and Red Robin are further back on the rooftop.
They watch in silence as another group of the Joker’s goons passes by. They’ve been all over the city, wandering around, not doing anything obviously illegal.
They don’t stay in one place and they don’t seem to have much of a purpose. No attacks… No stealing… No smuggling or transport of goods… No, instead they’re inspecting every single inch of the city.
They don’t seem to have any weapons on them. All they’re carrying on them are some flashlights. While most don’t give anything away with their body language or expressions, some seem to give off a bit of anxious energy.
Spoiler claimed she even saw some of them climb down into the sewers earlier and then climbing out again sometime later somewhere else, but this time ‘dejected and stinky’.
One thing seems clear to the Bats.
They’re searching for something… or someone.
“This basically confirms that not even the Joker’s henchmen know where he is. He’s missing.”
“I’m not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing”
“Good… thing?”
“It’s… something. That’s for sure.”
“We don’t know if he’s really missing. For all we know it could be a trap. What if the Joker is hiding, pretending to be missing to have us bring our guard down? Besides, how could he be missing? He’s the Joker. No one’s just gonna kidnap him”
“For all we know he could be lying dead in a ditch somewhere”
“I highly doubt that”
“Everyone, focus” Bruce speaks up, having them draw their attention to him.
“It’s unclear whether the Joker is simply hiding away or missing. Instead of focusing on the why, we need to focus on the where. Missing or not, we need to find him and get him back to Arkham. Oracle, have you managed to find out anything from the footage yet?”
“Nope, still nothing. All the files from the moment he enters Crime Alley are wiped and any attempt at recovering them only brings back corrupted files.”
“We need Red Hood. Where is he?” Bruce asks.
“He still has his phone on silent and he has removed the trackers and cams. We haven’t placed any new ones on him yet”
“Let’s visit him on his turf then. And keep an eye out for anything suspicious in the meantime. Oracle, try recovering the missing files. If that doesn’t work, go back to the breakout footage. Perhaps he left some kind of clues about his plans or whereabouts behind there.” Bruce states.
“Roger that.”
---
Red Hood has his arms by his sides as he gazes down upon the street below from the rooftop of a random apartment building in Crime Alley.
He’s lucky to have avoided the Bats so far. But he doubts his luck will last for long.
Red Hood stiffens as he suddenly feels something clamp down on his arm. As a reflex, his other hand has already drawn his gun.
He slowly raises the arm he felt something clamp down on and looks at it, only to make eye contact with a girl with black hair and blue eyes who has sunk her teeth into his arm and is now hanging off of it.
The teeth are sharp, as the girl seems to have some small fangs. They’ve gone through his jacket and sunken into his skin.
It doesn’t really hurt all that badly though, probably hasn’t even drawn much blood, and that’s one of the only reasons Jason hasn’t flung the kid off of him yet. Another reason is the fact that it’s a kid.
They both stare at each other for several seconds.
As Jason takes her appearance in, he notices that she seems rather familiar. In fact, she looks like a more feminine version of Danny, or if Danny had a twin.
The person hanging off of his arm looks younger than Danny though, probably a teenager around 13 or 14, if he had to make a guess.
Slowly, he puts his gun away and takes out his phone with his other hand, watching the random girl’s eyes follow his movements. He raises it level with her face and snaps a picture, quickly sending it to Danny and ignoring the girl’s curious gaze while she’s still hanging onto his arm by her fucking teeth.
---
Meanwhile, Danny checks his phone to see Red Hood sent him a message. He opens it and is greeted by a picture of Ellie in human form biting down on Red Hood’s arm with the caption ‘this yours???’

a 1.4k Strollonso ficlet in this trying time. some slightly tenderhorny introspection, really.
It’s in the way every living soul keeps patronizing him.
It’s in the way, when Sebastian says his heartfelt goodbyes at the end of the season party, he clasps Lance’s shoulder and bids him good luck for the year to come. It has nothing to do with him driving; it’s about who he’ll be driving with.
It’s in the way his father never gave him the talk but when Fernando Alonso gets signed to Aston Martin, Lawrence sits him down and they talk for an hour or two, touching on the entire history of the F1 that Lance knows already, for the love of god, and he’s pretty miserable by the time his dad sings praises to Fernando’s skills, underlining his holy like importance to the team.
It’s in the way he can’t fucking log on twitter in the off-season without being hit by a barrage of insanity and, frankly, poorly made memes created to feed a certain narrative while Lance hasn’t even met Fernando in the role of his new teammate, even though they’ve shared the grid for years.
Lance doesn’t really care; that is, basically, his whole brand and he lives the good life, untethered and unbothered, surrounded by wealth, love, a particular thrill.
And yet.
Fernando Alonso is a perpetual wildcard and Lance builds his attitude around this little image, prepared for some sort of psychological warfare but it never happens. Fernando is in his space every day — testing, meetings, strategy planning; once at a get-along dinner his father planned. Lance should be bored and bitching his way out but he’s stuck with this enigma of a man, sitting in front of him, sharing a meal and some wine while Lawrence explains the unexplainable things the team did to the car.
His mind wanders to the reasons he’ll be brushed off this season, just a young brat racing alongside a living legend again but then Fernando raises a toast and Lance’s name falls off his lips with that lilting accent and–
It’s the wine or something in the air or a shell inside his chest that cracks open to let a little light in, all while Fernando talks, spilling niceties and compliments, and that image Lance built somewhat falls apart.
Maybe it’s because Fernando hasn’t run him off the track yet or glared at him in a way some people that have been around long enough call a death stare; maybe Lance hasn’t spent enough time in his company to earn a reputation, to become a part of the feud that’ll go down in history. So many teams, he knows, have fallen by the wayside over less.
Oh, but it’s such a good play because Fernando has eyes only for him like the rest don’t exist, and Lance finds himself caught like a fly in a glue trap, an object of his sole undivided attention, and Esteban fucking warned him profusely, that’s how Fernando operates. Lures you into a manic little game only he can win.
And all those precautions are mushed together in Lance‘s brain, he knows, he knows but Fernando’s usual sharpness doesn’t cut him into bits and pieces, the lack of malice he was preparing to meet like an unwanted guest non-existent in the space between them, in the constant close proximity. It’s confusing and Lance is a shit actor. He can’t bring himself to feign ignorance or pretend to put on the face of someone he’s not.
The picture everyone paints of Fernando is skewed, so when Lance catches a glimpse of his true colors, all of his plans to stick it to the man burst at the seams, crumbling like a house of cards.
For all of Lance’s naivety, for how easily he follows down that narrow path, it’s a rush no money can buy. A touch here, a not-so-friendly pat there, a show of teeth in a smile that is lethal and Lance knows Fernando wants a taste, craves to do so much more, something unspeakable, something that could turn into the nastiest paddock gossip to this day but it’s exhilarating — knowing he does that to a man by simply existing. Knows that, maybe, he wants it, too.
And it doesn’t take them long to fall into the bed together or, rather, it’s Lance who falls, perhaps for some elaborate scheme Fernando is running on him because who is he if not a villain with a plan for mayhem.
And yet.
It’s in the way Fernando softly kisses both his wrists, carefully thumbs at the bandages, smoothing them with furrowed brow, and Lance feels like he might get shattered by that fondness reserved just for him.
It’s in the way he makes a face at another flock of reporters, forever annoyed by the implications they keep oh so implicit, but a private smile tugs at the corners of his lips the moment Fernando appears behind him, a palm splayed wide on the small of his back, his own smile shark-like when he says how great Lance is doing, how the team is proud of the work he puts in.
It’s in the way he feels more than an heir to the old money, more than his privilege and some character quirks that label him as spoiled when they are alone, Lance’s long legs pillowed in Fernando’s lap and the lights are dimmed with just a TV on. He makes a dumb joke, fighting a flutter in his chest, and Fernando laughs unabashedly, swatting his thigh while all the jostling causes his phone to slip between the couch cushions, the old race reruns playing out muted in the background.
And every time Fernando pushes into him unhurriedly, surrounded by the faceless hotel room walls, it washes away everything Lance is constantly bottling down inside; the little flame burns brighter with each languid thrust, with a hand between his shoulder blades, with a kiss placed at the back of his neck. Fernando holds him through it insanely close as Lance pants into the pristine white sheets, wet from stray tears and come, patches soaked through under his trembling knees.
And every time Fernando gets rough with him, hand coming down hard on his reddened ass because Lance had been in a mood, riling Fernando up, giving as good as he gets, to the point where he ends up bent in half, cock straining and weeping from each slap, each word reaching his ears seeped in unearthly lust. The breakneck speed of a racing car doesn’t quite match the adrenaline hit, doesn’t reduce Lance to whimpers and croaky moans, doesn’t push him to the edge of begging.
And every time Fernando spends what feels like hours cleaning him up and licking traces of his orgasm off Lance’s skin before plopping down next to him, sweaty and out of breath, sucking a mark into his neck, Lance feels like his floating, finally out of his head. Fernando teases him with a twinkle in his eyes, forever kind where he looks at him, and Lance playfully bites his shoulder in return, then smiles into the pillow before sleep claims him, a heavy arm thrown over his waist, grounding him.
And it’s Fernando, Fernando, Fernando — every time, all the time, and Lance finds himself suddenly caring, wanting, feeling like he doesn’t wish for it to end, ever. Like losing at this game they play is worth having a life inside a life; something real and fragile and raw encapsulated between who they both are to the outside world.
And yet.
It spins out of control like a car on a wet track, rules to the game Lance never bothered to learn forgotten and discarded, but he knows, among the sound of the engine running, the buzzing lamp in the meeting room, or the commotion just before a race. He knows, somewhere among all the sneaking around, stealing time together under the guise of team building, the false pretense got stripped away from Fernando’s actions. Lance knows, dares to look past the man behind a legacy, past a villainous haze.
It’s in the way Lance knows they’ve abandoned the chase, the thrill, or it left them without as much as a warning.
It’s in the way Lance seeks Fernando out with his eyes only to find him already staring at him, reading his features like an open book, his heart beating out of sync.
It’s in the way there is no turning back but Lance only looks forward and Fernando is holding his hand over the car console, squeezing his knee under the table at dinner while no one is looking, embracing him from behind with a kiss to his bare shoulder blade while the ribbons of morning light stream through the kitchen window.
It just leaves Lance wondering.
How can someone love so loud, so deafening, without a single word.
