Sleepy Baby Part 6
Tumblr media
a/n: It’s a little less fluffy.
Pairing: Jake “Hangman” Seresin / Reader
Warnings: None
Word Count: 1500 ish
Summary: Jake and Kisses talk about their pasts.

Netflix’s ‘are you still watching’ screen had long since timed out and was now flashing through images of the various shows on the streaming service. Tucked under Jake’s arm and wedged between his body and the back of your couch you watch the changing light from the TV flicker across his face. He is gazing down at you as he runs his fingers up and down your back
“You know, I’ve been with you every evening for the last two weeks,” Jake said, breaking the silence. “When did you stop going to your therapy mandated one hour weekly bar socializing sessions?”
“When some weirdo I met at a bar three months ago tracked me down at work two weeks ago.” you grin up at him as his eyes light up.
“He sounds like a creep, you should stay away from him.”
“Yeah I should, but unfortunately he is really good looking so I went and gave him my number and my address.” You shrug, “I can’t get rid of him now.”
“Good looks are a blessing and a curse.” Jake sighs dramatically and you lean up to kiss his chin.
“It’s ok that you stopped, though, right?” Jake looks down at you, “I don’t want to… I don’t know, impede your progress, or something.”
“It’s ok, she wanted me to go out and meet someone.” You grin up at him, “When I see her tomorrow she will probably be more excited than you were when I gave you my number.”
“Not possible.” he declares. “That was the best day of my life.” You snort at his response.
“Do you want to know why?” You shift so you can rest your chin on his chest. “You can ask, you know.”
“You’ll tell me when you are ready.” Jake shrugs, “I’m in no rush and you’re worth waiting for.” He goes back to running his fingers up and down you back.
“I want you to know. Long story long?” You ask, “or long story short?”
“Long story long,” he replies. You take a deep breath. You want Jake to know, but sharing always gives you a weird feeling, like you are looking for pity. Part of you wants to just info-dump the story and move past it. You are also unsure of how he will respond.
“I started dating my high school boyfriend, Ian, at seventeen,” you tell him on your exhale. “We lived outside Seattle and almost our whole friend group ended up moving there for university.” His eyes are searching yours and you turn your head so your ear is pressed against his chest. The steady beat of his heart is soothing and it is easier to talk without looking at him.
“We got engaged at twenty-three and had the whole wedding planned for when I was twenty-five.” Your breath is shaky as you inhale again. “My mother got really sick about four months before the wedding.” You blink and a tear hits Jake's shirt. “Breast cancer, it was already Stage 4 when they found it and she died about two months later.” You sniff and wipe your eyes. “My father was devastated. He had a heart attack and died about a month after my mom.”
“Oh, Kisses,” Jake wraps both arms more firmly around you and holds you close. “I’m so sorry.”
You relax into his arms, allowing yourself to be held. “They were pretty good parents as far as parents go.” you look up at him. “They had rules and all, but everything was done with humor.” You smile in memory. “Every rule had some kind of dire and completely unrealistic consequence if it wasn't followed. They would tell me to wear my coat in the winter or I would freeze solid and they would turn me into a Christmas lawn ornament and leave me out there until spring, stuff like that. There was a lot of laughter growing up.”
“Must be where you get it from," he says.
“Yeah,” you say sadly. “Not gonna lie, you brought some of that back.” You put your head back on his chest. “We postponed the wedding for a year. The vendors were surprisingly good about it.”
“Ian and Beth, my best friend since the second grade, got me through their deaths.” You laugh humorlessly. “I remember feeling so lucky that my fiancé and my BFF got along so well.” I started seeing Jenn, my therapist, and I was doing a lot better.
“A month before the second wedding date Ian and Beth were killed by a drunk driver when Ian was driving her home one night.”
“Oh, Kisses–” Jake goes to speak but you cut him off.
“That's not the best part.”
“The best part?”
“I mean you could also call it the worst part,” you sit up and look at Jake. “She was giving him a blow job when they were hit.” Jake’s jaw drops and he is staring at you with a horrified expression. “Yeah,” you say wryly. “It turns out they had a little thing going on since high school. All our friends knew but no one told me; I don’t talk to anyone from home anymore.”
“How did you find out?” Jake sits up too, arm resting on the back of the couch.
“The police told me. I was with his parents when I found out and I just started laughing hysterically. They were so mad at me for laughing. I just stood up and walked out of their house. Didn’t help cover the funeral or anything, just left and cut contact.”
“Is that when you moved here?” Jake's eyes are searching your face.
“No, I stayed in Seattle for about a year.” You tell him. “The really funny thing is that it turns out I was the sole beneficiary for one hell of a comprehensive accidental death insurance policy, and since the other driver was speeding and three times over the legal limit when his truck hit their car it paid out in full.”
Jake whistles under his breath. “At least you got something out of it.”
“That’s the way I choose to see it. His parents were upset that kept it all, but I feel like I've earned it.” You shrug, “Money doesn't buy happiness but it did make me feel a little better, it paid for lots of therapy in any case.”
“So after a year of me complaining about Seattle, Jenn asked me why I didn't just move. So I applied for every library position I could find in the country and got hired here and moved to San Diego. We do video call sessions now.”
“For what it is worth, I am so happy you ended up here.” Jake takes your hand in his, kissing your palm.
“Me too,” you grin shyly at him. “I was here for four months before Jenn talked me into going out to bars to socialize. I had been going every week for about two months when I met you. And I played our song.”
Jake makes a face. “In the Navy is not our song, we can’t dance to In the Navy at our wedding.”
“Wow….  You are jumping the gun a bit there with your wedding talk, but we can dance to any song we want at our wedding, if you are not a coward.” You tell him with a grin.
“I’ll find a better song for us,” Jake assures you.
“What kind of experience do you have picking out songs for your relationships? I want to make sure I am trusting an expert.” You tell him.
“I’ll have you know I picked Taylor Swift's Our Song for me and my high school girlfriend.” Jake says smugly. “I’m practically the authority on relationship songs.”
“That song’s a little on the nose. How did that relationship end?” You ask, “Did the song play a role in the downfall?”
“No, with Stacy and I, it was very amicable.” Jake smiles fondly. “She was my neighbor and we started dating when we were like fourteen. We broke up after graduation when we realized that what we wanted from our future careers would not fit together. She is a professional barrel racer now and happily married to a team roper.”
“Did you grow up on a farm, Jake Seresin?” You're grinning ear to ear, trying to picture him in a cowboy hat. Maybe holding a calf.
“No, we lived next door to Stacy's parents' horse ranch.” He says, “Our families are pretty close. I even went to her wedding where we danced to Our Song for old times sake, proving that I pick good songs.”
“Then I shall leave our song choice to the professional,” you tell him dramatically.
You stretch and check your watch, it reads 2:30AM. “It’s too late to drive,” you tell him. “Do you wanna stay the night?” He looks up at you in surprise, it's the first time you have invited him to stay over.
“Yeah,” his voice sounds hoarse and he clears it. “Yes, I do.”
“Then come on,” You take his hand and lead him to your bedroom. You try to hide how fast your heart is beating, but when his fingers shift over the pulse in your wrist and stay there you are sure he knows.
“Do I get to finally see those PJs you described to me the other day?”
You laugh, “No, I’ll save that mystery for another day, you will get to see the sloth PJs. though.”

You’ll Be Okay
Tumblr media
Pairing: Charlie Dalton x FemReader
Warnings: self doubt, language, mentions of trauma, established relationship, mentions of pregnancy, mentions of suicide
Summary: Charlie absolutely breaking down when you tell him you’re pregnant which is the complete opposite of the reaction you had expected.
word count: 1.8k
a/n: for my Charlie girlies, I know it’s been a while but hopefully this holds you over <3
Masterlist
Tumblr media
The bundle of nerves in your stomach was becoming too much to bear. This was visible as you nervously bounced your leg in the waiting room of the doctors office. Everything was so white and your heart rate was starting to pick up. You weren’t normally a fan of doctors but you felt you had justified reasons for your visit. Considering you period was late, you woke up queasy every morning, and your emotions seemed to be heightened, so it gave you all the excuses in the world. It also made sense because you and Charlie had agreed to stop using protection a few months ago. You had discussed being ready for kids and not wanting to rush into pregnancy, so you stopped using protection, and prepared for it to happen when it happens.
“Take a breath” Chris whispered, the small baby boy held to her chest. You had called her the minute you put the context clues together and she agreed to accompany you since she had already been through this twice now.
“I know, I’m trying” you forced a smile, your hand instinctively moving to twist your wedding band around your finger. It was a habit you had picked up since it became a permanent part of yourself.
“Remember, you and Charlie are ready for this. You should be excited” her soft smile radiated towards you and you felt comforted by her the same way you did the day you met. Without Chris you never would’ve met her boyfriend, now husband Knox, and Knox would’ve never introduced you to your now husband Charlie.
“I am, it’s just scary to think about. I’m already so attached and maybe I’m not even pregnant” you voiced your fears, admiring how she cradled her 10 month old baby as her 2 year old girl slept against her side. She was a super Mom, taking it all in perfect strides, the same way she mastered everything. Where she thrived, you struggled, and you worried motherhood would be the same.
“A mother’s intuition is never wrong, and you are going to be a great one” Chris’ hand moved to cover your stomach and you felt butterflies erupt because everything in you believed that a tiny piece of life, that you and the man you loved created, was growing in there.
“Mrs. Dalton” you nearly jumped out of your seat as the doctor called your name and you quickly stood, following him to an exam room.
“Good luck” Chris called out after you.
“We’re gonna do a blood test and then an ultrasound to see if we can find anything” you nodded, trying to numb yourself to feeling because you didn’t want to be disappointed. You’d rather not be heartbroken if he told you, you weren’t pregnant. So you tried to lessen your hopes as you let them take the blood test.
You could’ve sworn your heart was about to bust out of your chest as he prepped you for the ultrasound. Too scared to find there was absolutely nothing in there. Your eyes flicked nervously across the small, fuzzy, black and white screen as you waited.
“Would you look at that” the doctors voice nearly stopped your heart as a small blob appeared on the screen. A small thumping sound filled the room and you felt tears begin to form behind your eyes. “Judging by the size and the heart beat you’re about 6 weeks along. Congratulations Momma”
“Are you serious?” the dam broke as tears flowed freely down your face and the doctor smiled.
“Very serious” you leaned over and hugged him, him taken aback as he let out a chuckle. You couldn’t wait to tell Chris as you quickly got yourself back together to rush out to the waiting room.
“Well, what did he say?” Chris jumped to her feet as you returned to the waiting room. You tried to keep your composure but as soon as she asked you began to cry again.
“I’m 6 weeks along” shock flooded Chris’ features as she heard this.
“Oh my, you’re having a baby!” she squealed before hugging you as tight as she could with her son in her arms.
“I can’t wait to tell Charlie!” you spoke as you pulled away, already excited to cook the two of you dinner and tell him the good news. After that you and Chris wasted no time getting back home so you could prepare to tell your husband.
You nearly burned the chicken cutlet about five times as you prepared it, bursting with excitement and anticipation of Charlie coming home. You were going to have a baby, you had wanted this for so long. It was the whole reason you had stopped using protection, you were ready. So when you heard the door knob turn you realized you wouldn’t be able to wait until dinner was served to share the news.
“Hey baby” Charlie smiled at you, abandoning the brief case at the door as he loosened his tie. You couldn’t help but smile wider at the name baby.
"Hey sweetheart, how was work?" you asked as he walked over, wrapping you up slowly in his arms as he began to kiss the side of your head.
"Long and tiring, I couldn't wait to come home and see you" Charlie had ended up a Bank Managaer despite his best efforts not too. You admired that he was able to strip the work away the minute he stepped into the home. He still read and wrote poetry and played the saxophone every once in a while. You admired that he made an effort to continue doing the things he loved. Life was about work, of course, but it was also about the good, enjoyable things.
"I've been dying to see you too" you told him, finally pressing your lips to his in a soft kiss. He hummed in relief, as if the action just removed all of the stress from his entire day.
"You seem extra happy today, what's got you all smiley?" Charlie asked as he pulled back from the kiss, searching your eyes as he looked at you with adoration.
"I got some good news" you grinned and Charlie rose his eyebrows, curious as to what could have you with this wide a smile on your face.
"News? Well hit me with it sugar, don't leave a man hanging" he told you and you chcukled, excitment and nerves bubbling over as he continued to hold your waist.
"So me and Chris went to the Doctor today?" Charlie furrowed his eyebrows, confused that good news could come from a doctors visit instead of bad. "I wanted to get checked out.
"But you’ve been fine, you haven't even had a cold?" Charlie was still confused, unsure where any of this story could be going. He didn't need to worry and going to the doctor without telling him worried him.
"Not cold symptoms, but pregancy symptoms" you explained and suddenly all the color seemed to drain from his face.
"You're pregnant?" you nodded, the huge smile still painted perfectly on your face and he felt his heart begin to quicken. Suddenly his arms loosened their grip around you and he took a step back, the smile instantly falling from your face.
"Charlie? What’re you thinking?" you nervously asked as he backed to the dining room table and calmbered into a seat. He stayed silent, looking anywhere but your eyes, and suddenly you felt the tears begin to burn behind them. "We talked about this, you we're ready. We stopped using protection"
The tears started to fall and Charlie finally looked to you, a hand over his mouth as he sat there stunned. Yet between your tears you saw he had tears in his eyes as well. You wished you could read every thought going through his head as he looked at you, a broken look across his face.
"Charlie, tell me what's wrong?" you begged as you moved towards hm, grasping his hands in your own.
"I thought I was ready" he muttered, tears now falling down his cheeks as well. He shook his head, removing his hands to brush his tears away.
"So you don't want to do this?" you asked and he sighed heavily, his heart clenching from his thoughts.
"Of course I do, I just don't want to hurt our kid" it was your turn to furrow your eyebrows in confusion. Bending to your knees in front of him you grabbed his thighs, practically pleading with him to look at you.
"Baby, how could you ever hurt our kid?" you ask and he sighs, his fingers running through his hair, leaving it a mess compared to his perfectly combed look.
"We could make them feel trapped, like they don't have a future, they could decide to leave us" and then it hit you. Charlie was scared to raise a kid, do it wrong, and lose them exactly how he lost Neil.
"Charlie that could absolutely never happen. You are not Neil's father, in fact you are the furthest thing from it. I know I can trust that you will keep our childrens happiness before anything else" you tell him, trying to reassure him of this and he sighs, tears still staining his face as he lifts you up to sit in his lap.
"I know I'm just scared, I didn’t think it would happen this soon" he says and you smile as you wrap your arms around his neck, pulling him close.
"We've been trying for month Char, I think we are just on time" you tell him and he nods against you, a hand reaching over to press against your stomach.
"There's really a baby in there?" he asks and you smile, happy this didn't mean he didn't care.
"Yeah, 6 weeks old. Only the size of a pea" you tell him, a hand running through his already disheveled hair.
"If it's a boy can we name him Neil?" Charlie asks and you smile, brushing your own tears away.
"Of course baby" you tell him and he finally lifts his head from your chest to look at you.
"And if it's a girl, can we name her Nuwanda?" you laughed at this question, head tipping back in amusement, unsurprised that he said it. He was still the same guy you fell in love with.
"Absolutley not, but I don't hate Wanda" you tell him, your hand tucking under his chin to lift his head and look at you.
"Wanda is perfect" he said before leaning forward and pressing his lips against yours. You smiled as he kissed you hard and good, more than likely trying to erase the mess he just made. He knew he should've been excited but the fear was suffocating the minute he heard the word pregnancy.
"I promise you'll be a good father Charlie, I just know it" Charlie smiles softly, holding his girl that was carrying his baby. The baby he would make sure didn’t grow up with the same fears of life like he did. Like Neil did. The exact fears that killed him.
"I'm going to do everything I can to gurantee that"

'Remember Me Now?'
Tumblr media
Pairing. Sunghoon x fem!reader
Genre. Fluff
Warnings. None
Synopsis. It was your sister's wedding- and you expected it to be quite exhausting. Except this certain man made your day better, not realizing he was the boy you spent your childhood with.
Tumblr media
So, the day was finally here. The day you were dreading ever since your future brother in law proposed to your sister. Yeah I know it's rude but, it takes a lot of effort to prepare a wedding, right? Your family wasn't the ordinary. Normal families would have have the couple arrange the marriage- well this family makes the couple sit on thrones the entire time while the rest of the members arranged it. I mean- who can go against tradition?
You were the next in line, which meant you were the one to socialize with every aunt and uncle who was present- not even knowing how they were related to you. You asked your mom uncountable times that you'd help her behind the scenes, but she won. Now you have to smile and talk to everyone. You have to be in everyone's display as 'the bride's sister'. I'm telling you it's an introvert's nightmare.
Atleast you won over something- not going to a salon.
Yeah you do not like other people dress you up- and paying for it too? Who does that?
"Momm" you called her as you ran to her room. "Mom zip this for me" you asked.
She did, right after that she turned you around and started ranting about how you should put on some makeup.
"You're the bride's sister! Dress up for once y/n" she said.
"Alright alright" you groaned as you went to your sister's room to take some of hers.
You immediately took a call to your best friend- who is an expert in this stuff.
———————————————————
"Awhh you look so pretty!" Wonyoung said after she instructed you on how to apply it.
You sighed.
"Oh cheer up, I bet boys would be drooling over you bestie- I promise you it'll be fun alright?" She assured you.
"Thanks bae" you said as you started doing your hair. "I'm leaving in 20 minutes so I think I'll have to hang up" you said.
"Mmkay- I love you bye!" She replied.
You took a deep breath as you got out of the car.
'This is it y/n, this is where you die' you thought to yourself. You helped your sister get off the car, then made your way to the hall. You followed your mom everywhere, pretending to be busy as you weren't ready to socialize yet. Your mom then called you to arrange a few things, and you went gladly.
"Hey y/n" she said.
"Hm?"
"Remember Sunghoon?" She asked you.
"As in.. Mrs. Park's son? The ones who's studying in China?"
"Yes. He's arrived in Korea for the holidays, I hope you can speak to him as well"
"Him?? He's way older!"
"Oh he's only two years apart, besides, you used to play with each other all the time"
"That was years ago mom- I don't even remember how he looks"
"Okay okay, now go on and talk" she pushed you into the main hall. You looked back at her, terrified. She gestured you to walk forward.
Not even 2 minutes and you found yourself in a group of three middle aged women.
"Look at you! You've become so pretty!" One of them said, holding your right arm. You smiled. Just like that you had to smile at every person who spoke to you.
———————————————————
After what felt like hours, it was finally dinner time- which meant you could take a break.
You were tired. Exhausted. You went out to the garden to get some fresh air. You already fell in love with the place. It had greenery everywhere you turned, and a fountain in the middle with benches next to it. The area was lit up with dull lights- you finally felt at peace.
You sat on a bench which faced the city. Oh how you loved the sight of the city- especially at night. You removed your 3 inch heels, your feet swollen from all the walking- only to find a scratch on your right ankle.
"Ouch!" You whispered as you tried to move your foot.
"Hi there"
You flinched. You looked up to see a tall man wearing a black suit, one hand in his pocket and the other holding a glass with grape juice in it.
"H- hi" you said.
"Are you okay?" He kept his drink on the bench as he knelt down to take a look at your wound, his dyed silver hair falling perfectly on his face. He took out a tissue and folded it into four, then placed it on the wound. You furrowed your eyebrows- he chuckled at the sight. He carried your foot and put it back into the shoe.
"Here, it'll make it easier to walk" he said, placing your foot down. He got up and sat next to you.
"Thanks" you said.
He smiled at you. Gosh- why was he so good looking though?
"Uhm- well-"
"Bride's sister huh, must be tough" he said.
"How'd you know?"
"You don't remember me?" He said pretending to be hurt.
"Uhhh"
"I won't tell you"
So, you two spoke for the next 10 minutes- you didn't even know his name yet. You didn't realise how fast time was passing until you heard 'Kataware doki', your favorite piano piece, playing from the hall.
"Oh the dancing" you mumbled. "This song is so pretty, listen"
He stared at you for a moment, then got up and stood in front of you.
"May I have this dance?" He asked, bowing with his hand reaching out.
"Of course" you giggled, taking his hand.
The swelling was long forgotten once he placed his pretty hands on your waist and shoulder.
"I'm not the best at this" you said chuckling.
"You'll get the hang of it, just follow my lead" he said, raising your chin up with his left hand.
Soon, you were twirling in his hold, and you didn't want it to end. Except it did. You locked eyes with him, his hand still on your waist, and faces just inches apart. His eyes were now on your lips, you observed how his eyelashes fluttered as he looked back and forth at your eyes and lips. Your eyes couldn't keep still either, and they did the same. You two got closer by the minute, it was like you were in a daze. Your noses were brushing on each other, his lips now parted.
'Just kiss me already' you said in your mind.
The next song started playing, which made the both of you come back to your senses. You took a step behind, looking down as you played with your fingers.
"I- I need to go" you said, avoiding eye contact.
He took a step forward, taking your hands in his.
You let go, giving him a soft smile. You made your way back to the hall, where your work awaited you.
As you opened the glass doors, the sound of people's chattering instantly filled your ears. It was as though you had woken up from the most beautiful dream, and now having to face reality. You let out a deep sigh as you had to put on that fake smile again.
After half an hour of socializing, you saw your mom calling you from a distance, a familiar woman by her side.
"Y/n, remember Mrs. Park?" Your mother said, introducing you to her.
"Oh hello!" You bowed at her.
"Oh my gosh y/n! Look at you- you've grown so much! You're so pretty now!" She said, pulling you in for a hug.
"Awh Mrs. Park how've you been!" You asked her, still in her hold.
"I've been great!" She replied, parting the hug. "Have you met Sunghoon yet? I hope you still remember him" she laughed.
"Of course I do!" You told her, chuckling.
She then gestured someone behind you to come.
"Here he is!" You turned to look at him.
'What. The. Hell.'
The guy you danced with- WHAT?
Your eyes widened. You shook his hand, your mouth slightly parted out of shock.
"Remember me now?" He said, leaning in with a small smirk on his face.
End.

OUR LIFE SWAP OUR LIFE SWAP
Another part to the Swap AU in which Baxter is your best friend that grew up across the street, Cove is the friend you met when you were 13 and Derek is the boy who moved in for a summer.
More Swap AU here -- and here -- and here.
You'd been best friends with Baxter for ten years, so you'd seen him in almost every imaginable mood. Happy Baxter, sad Baxter, anxious Baxter, you knew them all.
But giddy Baxter ... that was one of the rarer versions.
It was, however, the version that you got on your prom night.
"Are you ready yet?" you heard him ask excitedly. You had him on speakerphone as you roamed around your room, putting the finishing touches on your look.
"Not yet, hold your horses," you told him.
"I don't have any horses, just my car keys," he answered. "Perhaps we will have horses at our wedding, they can pull the carriage."
You rolled your eyes, and although he couldn't see it, it seemed like he imagined your reaction -- he laughed.
The two of you weren't dating, had never dated or even talked about liking each other in that way, but he liked to tease you like that. He called you "darling" and "sweetheart" regularly, always offered you his arm when you were walking anywhere, talked about your future wedding and the children you'd have.
It was just what he did -- he teased. But you'd had a crush on him for years, and despite these kinds of jokes being a regular occurrence, they still made your heart flutter.
"You're so funny," you told him wryly, taking a last look at yourself in the mirror. "I'm ready."
"On my way!" he said cheerily, ending the call.
You made your way out to the living room, preparing yourself for your moms' reaction, and they didn't disappoint.
"You look so beautiful!" Mom said, gripping your shoulders and pulling back to get a good look. "Baxter isn't going to know what hit him."
"He's seen me practically every day for the past ten years, he'll probably have a pretty good idea," you told her.
She shot a look over to Ma, who giggled. Before she could add in her thoughts, the doorbell rang. She rushed over, pulled the door open, and there he was.
Baxter was smiling -- a full smile, showing his teeth, very different from his trademark smirk. He was wearing a classic black suit, well tailored, and his matching black and white hair was swooped carefully across his forehead.
You were so busy looking at him in awe that you didn't recognize that he was taking you in with the same reverance.
"Pictures!" Ma called out, breaking you out of your shared trance.
Baxter grabbed your hand, pulling it up to put your arm through his as you followed your parents outside. "You look amazing," he said quietly, leaning in so only you could hear.
"Speak for yourself," you replied.
Your moms made the two of you pose for photos out on the poppy hill. Ma had her phone and Mom had the proper camera, and they directed you to a variety of positions and locations across the little field.
"Sorry, I know you want to go," you told him as Mom looked through the photos she'd taken.
"No need to apologize," he said. "Honestly it wasn't so much that I wanted to go as it was that I was eager to start the experience."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean that it's the idea of spending this night with you that I find thrilling."
You weren't sure what to say to that, but you felt a blush coming on. Your moms caught it, it seemed, because you heard a few clicks and some laughter.
When that particular torture finally ended, Baxter escorted you back into the house, through the front door, and out to his car. As your parents waved, he opened the door for you, made sure you were safely seated, then closed it before jogging over to the driver's side.
"I'm very excited," he said as he started the car, flashing another bright smile your way.
"Is it the fanciness or the dancing?" you asked, knowing his love for both things.
"It's the fanciness and the dancing. And getting to do all of it with you," he said. "Usually all my dancing happens with a competition partner, not someone as dear to me as you are. And it is rare that you'll indulge me in a bit of formal wear."
There it was again -- "someone as dear to me as you are." A flush made its way to your face again. It was going to be a long night.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
When you got to the prom, held in a large room at a nearby hotel that had been decorated extensively by your fellow students, Baxter was practically buzzing with anticipation. He parked, jumped out of the car and raced to the other side to open your door before you had the chance.
He led you inside, and when you opened the doors he actually let out a little gasp. There were little lights hanging everywhere, flowers all over, and a soft, slow song was currently playing as the other attendants who'd already arrived danced in the center of the room.
"Magical," he whispered, barely loud enough for you to hear.
Unable to hold himself back from one of his favorite activities, he grabbed your hand and gently pulled you to the dance floor as well.
"Is this all right?" he asked when you got there. "Did you want to do anything else before?"
"No," you laughed, "I figured this is what we'd spend most of the night doing."
"Excellent," he grinned, then guided one hand up to his shoulder as he held onto the other. He put his free hand on your waist and started leading you in the same sway the others were doing.
"No waltzing?" you asked, half joking and half genuinely surprised he wasn't trying to jump into one of his routines.
"No room. Besides, there's something to be said for something simpler, don't you think?"
The song lasted a bit longer, and by the end of it he'd pulled you closer, close enough that your cheek was resting on his shoulder. When a faster song started, you felt him smile against your hair.
"Do you think your classmates would be opposed to us staying like this?" he asked.
"I'd be opposed," you said, pulling yourself away from him. "I want to see you dance to this."
"It won't be very pretty," he said with a grin.
"I doubt that."
You saw him warm at your words. He grabbed your hands again and started dancing, something so different than the smooth, graceful ballroom style you knew he loved, but something beautiful all the same. He jumped around, shook his shoulders, yanked you back and forth in turns and twists, laughing the whole time.
When you invited Baxter to go to prom with you -- as friends, you'd told him, not willing to risk putting yourself out there enough to ask for an actual date -- you imagined you'd spend most of the night dancing, and you were right.
There was the occasional break to get drinks, and he'd insisted you get your pictures professionally taken against the backdrop that had been set up in the corner, but for the most part, you danced. And it was wonderful.
You stayed even as people started leaving and workers started backing things up. At one point, the rooms regular lights were turned on, but the music kept playing a nice ballad, and Baxter didn't make a move to stop, so neither did you.
"I don't want this night to be over," you heard him say, a touch of sadness in his voice. It was the first time he'd been less than ecstatic the entire night.
Someone shut the music off, and the handful of other students that had stuck around started unsticking themselves from each other and moving towards the exit.
"I don't think we have much of a choice," you told him.
With a sigh, he let go of your waist, but kept your hand in his. This time, he held onto it as you walked back out to his car.
The ride home was odd. He was still excited about the night, that was clear, and he was disappointed it was over, but there was something else going on with him too. Something that made his hands tense on the steering wheel and had his jaw clenched, even as he smiled when you talked about how much fun you'd had.
When you got back to the neighborhood, he parked in his usual spot on the street in front of his house, then once again opened your door for you. He helped you out, then walked with you across the street and up to your front door.
"I had a marvelous time," he told you. "Thank you so much for inviting me, it means the world."
"Who else would I have invited?" you said, laughing at the idea that you'd want to share the night with anyone but him.
"I don't know, I imagine there's a gaggle of boys at that school of yours in line to sweep you off your feet."
If you didn't know better, you'd thought that almost sounded like jealousy. As you were thinking about it, you heard yourself say, "There's no other boy but you."
You bit your lip, nervous at how forward that had sounded. You saw him glance down at your mouth, then take in a breath.
The next thing you knew, he had a hand on your hip, lower than the spot on your waist he'd been holding all night. With his other hand, he he cupped your cheek, brushing his thumb softly against the skin there. You stepped closer to him, and he pulled you closer until you were flush against him.
He was leaning in, and you knew there was nothing else he could be doing except going in for a kiss. You shut your eyes, waiting.
"Hey guys, what are you -- oh no."
Baxter jumped back, and you did the same. The interruption was brief -- your mom had peeked through the door to see why you were both waiting outside, then snapped it shut when she saw what was going on, but the moment was gone.
"I better go inside," you said, beginning to twist your hands nervously. "But thank you, for tonight. For everything."
It took him a moment, but he smiled at you. He reached over across the distance you'd both placed between you and stroked your cheek again.
"Until next time," he said, then left to go into his own house without another word.

Can you elaborate more on how Amelie is indulgent with Felix?
In Felix (the episode), after Felix does all that awful stuff including trying to make Adrien's friend's hate him via impersonating him, we get this:
Adrien: That video you sent to my friends... Unforgivable, Félix. (Félix doesn't look him in the eye, only looks down, upset and ashamed) Amelie: Now that his father isn't here to stop him from getting into mischief - (Félix stops her.) Félix: I don't deserve to be forgiven, mom. I put my favorite cousin in danger. He's right. No apology can ever be enough.
Now, we don't know exactly what Amelie was about to say, but Felix's interruption makes it pretty clear that she was about to defend everything he did or at least downplay it. Otherwise why would he say that he didn't deserve to be forgive and that Adrien was right?
This is further supported by the next scene in which we see Felix and Amilie. They get on the train and what does Amelie do?
Félix: I've got a surprise for you, mom. (He reaches behind her ear and pulls out Gabriel's ring.) Amelie: (gasps) But Gabriel refused to hand it over to me! And after everything that happened - (reaches out and cups his face) My little magician. I can never understand how you always manage to get what you want. (closes her hand over his) Keep it. It's yours now. Félix: But... you wanted it so much. Amelie: Only to give it to you. You've always been so fascinated by them. How many times have you asked me to tell you the story of the Graham de Vanily twin rings, huh? (she kisses his forehead) I'm glad it's back in the family where it truly belongs. (She winks at him and then rests her eyes. Félix smiles deviously out the window.)
She praises him for stealing and doesn't say a single word about all of the messed up things he did. If this were my kid, we would be talking about his actions were and trying to get him to explain why he did all of that. We'd also be discussing his punishment.
We also learn that Amelie only demanded that her recently widowed and still grieving brother-in-law give up his wedding ring because Felix wanted it. Even though, arguably, the rings should go to Adrien or at least stay with Gabriel until someone in the family is ready to marry. Amelie had no need for them other than "baby wants it, baby gets it."
This was before the sentireveal, so it's debatable if the original intent was to take it this far or if this is just another victim of the retcon, but it's canon now and the writers claim to have planned it all from the start, so I'm going to treat it as fully intentional and discuss the sentistuff, too.
We never see Felix or Amelie learn that the rings are Adrien's amoks, but Felix very clearly knew that's what the ring he had was. Based on that, it's not illogical to conclude that Amelie knew that she was asking for Adrien's amok and didn't care. Baby wants his cousin's controls, baby gets it.
Moving on!
The start of season five sees Ladybug and Chat Noir try to track down Felix since he knows Monarch's identity and gave him all of the miraculous. Kinda a big deal. When they get to London, this happens:
Amelie: My son wasn't here this morning, when I woke up. I didn't worry though, because I thought he might have gone to see his cousin Adrien in Paris. Those two are so fond of each other, but Félix wasn't returning my calls, though I contacted his uncle Gabriel; he told me he hadn't seen him. Cosmobug: And yet he was in Paris I talked to him. Amelie: Oh, Cosmobug, Astrocat, I hope nothing's happened to him! Cosmobug: Don't worry, ma'am. He'll probably end up at his uncle's. Astrocat: Or he might already be on his way back home to London. Amelie: Thanks so much to the two of you for your support!
Then the heroes leave. At the end of the episode, we cut back to London and see this:
Amelie: Tea break. (Félix comes out of the room holding a laptop and follows Amelie to the main hall. Amelie pours tea into a cup, while Félix sits on a sofa and works on his laptop.) Amelie: (putting her hand on Félix's head) Don’t worry, my Félix. Mom is here to protect you from those superheroes who think you’re a villain.
Who cares about saving Paris from a terrorist? If her baby wants to hide away, then Amelie will help him hide away.
Also, if she had forced Felix to talk to the heroes here, then Gabriel wouldn't have died because this is before Destruction. Not saying that his death is her fault, but Amelie did inadvertently let to her nephew be orphaned because she didn't want Felix to face the consequences of his own actions. Remember that as you read this next bit.
And then we have Emotion, which sees Amelie storm into the diamond dance and cause a massive, confusing scene:
Amelie Graham de Vanily: (struggles to make her way in through the guards) Gabriel! My son Félix has been missing for weeks now! (storms towards them) Not only have you and your friends been no help with the search! But now I'm not even invited to the ball?! You haven't been the same since my sister Emilie disappeared! Why are you rejecting us? Gabriel: This is not the place nor the time, Amelie. Nathalie will see you out. (Nathalie begins to walk towards Amelie, and grabs her by the wrist, walking her outside of the ball) Amelie: I don't understand how Gabriel could've become so cruel, let alone why you're still complacent in his actions. Nathalie: Sorry, Amelie. I have no choice. (hands Amelie to the guards) Amelie: There's always a choice, Nathalie.
Ignoring the massively hypocritical "you're still complacent in his actions" line, this is a weird scene. Amelie waltzed right into the mansion back in Felix (the episode). If she wanted to talk to Gabriel about the fact that Felix was missing, why not do that again? It's not like this is urgent. She's apparently waited weeks to come talk to him. Why now?
Cut to the end of the episode and we get our answer:
Amelie: You were right: I did everything you told me to and Gabriel didn't do or say anything to help me. He despises me. He's a monster! They're all monsters! Argos: Hold my feather. (He de-transforms into Félix and goes to hug Amelie) Félix: Not all of them. (smiles)
So Amelie was just doing what every good mom does: blindly follows her child's instructions.
What were you expecting Gabriel to do, hon? Stop the event? This is such a weird test to pull. It'd be different if Felix had just gone missing, but she literally says "weeks". Why is she shocked that Gabriel correctly said "this is not the place nor the time, Amelie"?
I don't like to give Gabriel points, but he gets them here. I wouldn't cancel my event either. I'd tell her to come talk to me tomorrow or ask an assistant to talk to her. Of course, I'd also have been helping with the search before this, but that brings us to the second issue: Felix isn't missing.
What have the search efforts been? What does Amelie want Gabriel to do? No one has ever mentioned an ongoing search and our heroes would absolutely be involved in that since Felix, you know, aided a terrorist, but they're not so this all feels like a shit test.
Also, please remember, this is right after Felix snapped humanity out of existence as Argos and he detransforms in front of his mother. Either Amelie was living in a bubble or she saw everything her son did and was just like, "That's cool, baby! Mommy loves you! Go commit genocide! Your song was so good!"
This is all probably Amelie overcompensating for Colt's abuse, but you asked this in response to another post where I said that Amelie and Andre are the same, so that excuse doesn't really hold water. Andre spoils Chloe for the exact same reason. Aubrey's abuse may have looked different, but it was still abuse.
The only difference between Amelie and Andre is that Andre abuses his mayoral power for Chloe's sake and Amelie doesn't do anything like that. But then, Amelie doesn't have that type of power to abuse. If she did, then I have no doubt that she'd do the exact same thing, so I'm not giving her that point. She is exactly the same: overly indulgent to the point that she's made her child rotten.
Overly indulging an abused person like this isn't going to help them get over their abuse. That's what therapy is for. I adore the magical power of love, but only when it comes to magical threats. Love is not enough to fix anyone's mental health. You can't love away things like PTSD.

Day 10 @flufftober - “love of my life” Tianshan drabble. MO’s POV
It took distance to make me finally admit just how much Tian meant to me. To think, a relationship that began with a fight and ending up as lovers was not something I could have imagined. Not ever, and certainly not with another man when I’d been simply scrapping by as a loser under the thumb of a heartless gang leader like She Li. Back then I didn’t have much of an opinion about myself other than ending up working some low wage job behind a stove somewhere and living with my mother. No one else but her cared, well, except maybe Buzzcut. It certainly wasn’t enough to make me care about myself. Why should I have? I was no genus at academics, pretty good cook and able to clean, but that just made me a servant, a slave— Big deal.
At first, He Tian wasn’t much different from She Li in that he pushed me around too. Cook for him, clean for him, drug me around on whims, scaring the hell out of me on too many occasions. And yet, it was… different. For starters, Tian paid me which was great for me and my mom since we could use the money. Tian didn’t beat me or use me for illegal stuff like getting into fights with rival gangs. But I have to say the turning point started with standing up for me and refusing to let me take the fall for something I didn’t do. Tian and Jian and Xi, the trio fighting with the school administration and using their connections, took me completely by surprise when I didn’t think I deserved their help. Buying me things and showing me another side of the world I never experienced before slowly pulled me in. Showing me what friendship really meant, well, isn’t that what we all want?
But… it’s when I saw the pain in Tian’s eyes when he found me broken and battered, and the anger he unleashed on She Li for breaking my body and spirit, then the ferocity he showed when they hurt Jian, just wow… how could it not have sucked me in? This man cared so damn much, taught me so much, it felt amazing when I scored that 80 on the test and the glimmer in his eyes of how proud he was for me. Damn, I knew then I was falling in love.
Then his brother had to take him away from us— from me, and send him to another school where I couldn’t follow. The bastard, I was so angry at first at Chen. Couldn’t the bastard see how much we meant to each other? Tch. Yeah, okay we kept in touch by phone and Tian would come home to visit during breaks, but for the majority of three years I had to endure without him. Just Jian and Xi as company, it wasn’t the same damn it! I really started to miss the times he would sneak into bed with me or watched me when he thought I was asleep. The kisses he’d sneak in or touching me and grabbing onto me when it was dark… I really, really missed it, him, and counted the days till I’d see him again. But most of all, I just missed the company and his support. Of him pushing me to do better in school and simply be a better man. So, I did what he hoped during our time apart and did my best in school, biding my time till the day we could reunite.
What will he think?
Jian Yi answered the knock on the bedroom door. It was Qi letting us know it was time to head down to the backyard.
“Ya ready?” Jian asked me and I nod yes… nervous, but ready for what was next. So he grins and straightens my tie before patting me on the shoulder. “Let’s go, your man awaits,” he teases.
Tch, I sneer but with a blushing grin. My man? Yeah, that man alright. I follow along as I’m lead then told to wait just inside the door to the backyard. We can hear the music starting to play. Oof, the nerves are kicking in. Excited nervous energy that’s making me grin from ear to ear— Dun, dun da dun, dun da da dun… Jian claps me on the back seconds before they door opens to the crowd of onlookers staring back at us from He Cheng’s backyard adorned with the makings of a garden wedding venue. A swallow hard to drench my parched throat as I see the love of my life standing at the end of the flower-laced aisle waiting for me with the biggest smile I think I’ve ever seen.
I take a deep breath and walk forward with a smile. Thank you, He Tian for choosing me…

From this post from earlier this week (...okay, now returning to my writing break :) )
“Now rub your hands together so the soap can bubble up and get your hands clean.”
“The water won’t be too cold this time, right Mommy?”
“No, I’m gonna make sure it’s just right while you make sure there’s no yucky germs on your hands.”
Sasha stood in the open doorway of the bathroom as she watched her wife and her daughter at the sink. She smiled to herself as she watched Delia splash water around the counter, neither knowing that she was watching them.
Potty training was a lot easier than what Sasha anticipated. She talked to other parents, and got countless vents about how much work and time it takes. But Anetra seemed to already know all the tips and tricks of potty training before they even started.
Within a month of buying a small potty for their toddler, Delia was already almost ready to start using the bathroom by herself.
Anetra shifted her eyes to see Sasha’s reflection in the mirror. She turned the water off as she looked down at Delia. “Looks like someone is home to see you.” She said.
Delia’s eyes brightened as she saw Sasha in the doorway, hands still dripping. Anetra grabbed the small towel from the rack and placed in her daughter’s hands. “Dry off your hands first, I’m sure Momma doesn’t want to be soaked.”
Sasha didn’t mind feeling slightly wet hands hug around her waist. “Did you have a good day, sweetie?” She asked as she gently moved her daughter’s long brown hair behind her ear.
Delia nodded, “I used the big girl potty this time.” She proudly said.
“Good job, I’m proud of you.” Sasha smiled at her as Anetra wiped the water on the counter. “You wanna meet us in the kitchen and help with dinner?”
Delia nodded as she started going down the hall. Once she got to the stairs and out of earshot, Sasha turned to her wife as she finished soaking up the water.
“You really have a knack for potty training, huh? You made this way easier than every other parent has told us about it.” Sasha pointed out.
Anetra shrugged, “I guess, but it’s like my fifth-time potty training someone.” She said casually as she put the towel in the hamper. “It just gets easier the more I get used to doing it.”
Sasha tilted her head in confusion as she followed Anetra out of the bathroom, “Wait, five times? What other kids have you been potty training?”
“My siblings. I was the oldest kid, so I had to teach them.”
Sasha stopped in her tracks and tugged on Anetra’s sleeve to get her attention. “You potty trained your brother and sisters?” She asked in disbelief. "Why couldn't your mom do it?"
Anetra turned to look at her wife, puzzled by the confusion in Sasha's eyes. "I helped her at first with my sister, but she got busy with taking care of the house and getting involved with the church. So I ended up taking over with my other siblings." She explained, but Sasha's face did not change.
"Neech..." Sasha sighed, finding a way to express her frustration in learning this. "That's not normal, and I think your mom took advantage of you by doing that,"
"What do you mean? I wasn't taken advantage of, my mom was busy and I wanted to help her out." Anetra said in defense.
"Would you make Kerri potty train Delia?" Sasha asked, hoping a rhetorical question could help her point.
"No, why would I do that? It wouldn't be...fair." Anetra said as she came to the realization of what Sasha was trying to point out to her. "I see what you mean now." She said, her eyes filling with sadness. She cleared her throat before continuing to walk down the hall.
"I need to start making dinner." The younger woman said with her arms crossed, looking straight forward.
Anetra was quiet while making and eating dinner. She only spoke when she needed to, but not for very long. She was quiet when getting ready for work, and simply waved goodbye to her family before leaving.
The next morning, Sasha woke up with the other side of the bed untouched. Part of her worried that Anetra didn't come home, but saw a shirt with the bar's logo and black skinny jeans thrown on the floor.
She found Anetra sitting on the living room couch in the darkness, wearing her old company T-shirt and boxers. The morning sunrise was just peeking through the closed blinds.
Sasha was the one who had more insomniac fits that caused her to miss out on sleep, so it felt different to see Anetra in this position. She felt more worried about her wife as she sat next to Anetra on the couch.
"Couldn't get any sleep?" she asked.
Anetra shook her head, "Too much on my mind right now."
Sasha didn't say a word. Instead, she opened her arms, letting Anetra move closer and place her head on her chest. She ran her fingers through Anetra's red hair, as they both sat in silence.
"I'm so stupid, I should have known my mom knew what she was doing by letting me pretty much raise my siblings," Anetra said, in a quiet voice. "Now it makes sense why they always put me in the daycare during church instead of the youth group," she said her thoughts out loud.
"It's not your fault all that happened," Sasha said, running her fingers lightly over Anetra's shoulder. "You were young, and didn't know any better."
"But I lost out on being a normal teenager." Anetra said, "Well, as normal as a Mormon teenager can be." she shrugged.
"You were able to get out of the church and your mom's family, and you aren't doing that to your own kids," Sasha said, sitting up slightly. "I know it was really hard for you, but I'm so proud of how far you've come."
Anetra sat up, moving to look at Sasha. "You always know the perfect thing to say, don't you?" she said with a slight smile, her hands enveloping Sasha's.
"That's because I married the perfect person for me," Sasha responded, squeezing her hand back. They enjoyed watching the sunrise through the living room window, and both were okay with the thought of moving on from the past.

Parenting in La Pluie, Episode 11
Last week, Tai finally, finally got The Explanation from his parents, and hoo boy, did they NAIL IT. He threw a spectacular tantrum as an adult man at his mom’s wedding and his parents did not immediately disown him, which is impressive in its own right. What’s more impressive is how they talked sense into him, undoing the knots of confusion in his head about their divorce, and how it has shaped his understanding of the concept of love and relationships.
Tai arrives at the wedding, and immediately throws side eyes at his mom and her now-husband, Nu. He sits down at the table with his brothers, and when his brother Nuea asks him about his fight with Patts that led to their breakup, he deflects by saying it was nothing special, it just didn’t work out. Nuea then says “You got a soulmate as your boyfriend. That is precious” and Sangtien and Saengchan emphatically agree with him. Tai then asks Nuea “As it comes down to this, do you still want me to believe in soulmates?” implying their parents’ separation. Their dad arrives, and Tai observes his parents and Nu happily interacting with each other and then asks his brothers “As you see this, don’t you feel something? Dad is congratulating Mom on her new wedding”.
Tumblr media
It is clear from Tai’s behavior and his words that he does not understand how a person can love someone and wish them happiness, even when they cannot be the one who gives it to them. Tai gets increasingly upset as his mom gives her wedding toast, and walks away when Yadfah says “They (Warun and her children) are still my beloved ones, I love them, forever”. He walks away because he thinks she is lying, if she still likes Warun, why would she break-up with him? And how can she fall in love with Nu and marry him? It does not make sense to Tai and it does not fit the idea of love he has in his head.
Nu sees Yadfah’s heart breaking into a million pieces, as she watches her son essentially shrug off her declaration of love for him and walk away. He then tells her “The most important thing for him right now is to understand us. If Saengtai is happy, we will be happy. Now Saengtai is my son too” (we love Uncle Nu in this house, ladies, gentlemen, and my non-binary frens).
Tumblr media
So, Yadfah and Warun follow Tai to Saengchan’s room, and Warun asks him how he is feeling, since Tai excused himself from the table saying that he is feeling dizzy. This is a tiny but amazing detail to show us how they have been patient and understanding of Tai’s struggle with their separation. They leave the ball in Tai’s court, waiting for him to ask them, when he is ready to really listen to them. When Tai gives them that opening they have been waiting for, by saying “You know I lied. I don’t have a headache”, Warun and Yadfah look at their son, look at each other, nod, and then Warun starts talking. I’m a big fan of parents establishing and reassuring themselves as A TEAM before they try to talk sense into their fucked up child’s head.
Tumblr media
A quick detour: this is not the first time I have talked about divorce and the effect it has on the children in the family. I have done it before when Step by Step had a similar scene where Pat’s parents talked to him about their separation, when Pat was having his quarter-life crisis breakdown on their shoulders. I concluded that piece saying that divorce must not always be demonized and blamed as the root of trauma for whatever difficulty children face in their adulthood. And I noticed a few people in the notes, rightfully pointing out that divorce can be a traumatic experience for the children even when it is amicable. I fully agree. I do and I understand. But the reason why I am so defensive about this narrative is that it can be easily reduced and twisted into “divorce is bad, it traumatizes children, so no one should get divorced”. Divorce can be a deeply traumatizing experience for the children, but their parents staying in a marriage that does not work anymore is worse. Nobody wants to break up a perfectly good marriage. Couples who contemplate divorce know that this is the option that will get them and their children out of this unhappy situation with the least amount of pain. And when children are made aware of this, they will eventually grow and heal from this pain. And they will see that their parents still did whatever was best for them, even if that meant separating from each other.
Warun echoes this exact sentiment in his explanation. He apologizes to Tai, telling him that he and Yadfah thought not bringing their problems to Tai was the right thing to do, which in retrospect, is decidedly not. He says “We thought it would be better if you know nothing” and Yadfah adds “especially you, who has hearing loss”, which, as @shortpplfedup notes here, implies that Tai might’ve gotten some special treatment from his parents, being their only kid with a hearing loss. Warun continues and clarifies that he never lied to Tai, a callback to their conversation at the restaurant after Tai’s dinner date with Patts, where he told Tai “I do still love your mom. I don’t lie to myself about it. And, I’m glad for her (relationship with Nu). And I don’t lie to myself about it, either”. He says “Marriage is not only about love” and we see the argument between him and Yadfah in the flashback scene. It shows how even though their lives are centered around their children and their shared goal and desire to provide the best life for them, their points of focus have led them to drift apart in different directions, leading to them spending less and less time together. We finally hear Yadfah say the words “Maybe we should separate”.
Tumblr media
At this point, I was ready to be disappointed because I wanted Tai to confront his idea that his mom is the instigator of this divorce and therefore the villain in this narrative. And if Yadfah is the one who uttered the S word first, I was afraid that Tai would latch on to it and regress back into his immature stance. But no, the show surprised me yet again because the writers are so. fucking. smart. The scene shifts back to the present and Warun says “But that is not the day we separated. For a year after that we tried to talk, adjust and move forward”.  He explains that he and Yadfah realized that though they are on different paths now, they still share the same goal. And then he says it. He says “I told your mom that we should get a divorce”. And we immediately see the seismic shift in Tai’s mind, his entire understanding of his mom, his dad, their love for each other, their marriage to each other and their family, crumbles to dust. He looks completely shaken and stunned. The world does not make sense to him anymore.
Tumblr media
Yadfah now joins the conversation and reiterates how even though they are separated, they will always care for each other and their children. She says “Our love has just shifted to a different form”. She then adds a statement that shakes the foundations of Tai’s belief system for the second time. She says “Although we are separated, we will still be soulmates forever. When it rains, we still talk to each other” and we see Tai immediately realize how monumentally he has fucked up with Patts. He broke the soulmate bond. He wanted to be free of this destiny and he screamed it out into the universe with so much hate that the universe obliged. But he forgot that destiny is not the only thing that’s tying him to Patts. Patts chose to love him, and Tai could only see that love through the veil of destiny that binds them. He did not understand that Patts loved him in spite of the soulmate bond, not because of it. To quote the ever eloquent and lovely @liyazaki, real love is freedom.

At this point, the other Saeng brothers and Nu enter the room, and it’s interesting that Saengtai and Saengchan (the tantrum throwers) stand on one side and Saengtien and Saengnuea stand behind their dad, on the same side as their parents. Warun then tells them that he is happy for Yadfah and Nu, and that he would still want this even if he can go back in time. “This is my love for your mom”.
Warun then addresses all his children and says “Being soulmates is not more important than what we believe in”. Oh, so he does know that all his children (but one) are knuckleheads who think soulmates are precious, huh. That’s not to say the one who does not believe in soulmates is not not a knucklehead, he is just a different type of tool than his brothers. Anyway, Warun is an excellent dad who knows exactly how his sons might think and preemptively clarifies before they can do (more) damage.
Finally, Tai unfreezes and tearfully apologizes to his parents. Warun, being the absolute best, immediately says that he and Yadfah were never angry at him, and that they should’ve spoken to all their children before and it would’ve made things better. Tai then tells his parents “No matter what happens, please don’t leave each other alone”, no doubt thinking about how he has left Patts alone. And then we see the most adorable family group hug that has ever graced my eyeballs.
Tumblr media

Tien, my adorable, yet deadly sweet-and-sassy boy, invites Nu to join, but Nu stays put. I told my fellow La Pluie clowns that I would’ve LOVED to see Nu in that group hug, given he had just proclaimed an adult toddler who was ruining his wedding as his son. But @bengiyo pointed out that while Nu may be ready to embrace his new family, Tai was not. And he’s right.
This is not the end of Tai’s journey. He will still have a lot to unpack and understand about love, relationships, family, and so on. He will have thoughts that conflict with this new context and perspective he has just gained and he will have to talk them through with his loved ones. He will have to unlearn old patterns and behaviors that hurt the people in his life, the ones he loves. But it all starts with an open and honest conversation. And what a gloriously beautiful conversation it was.
Shoutout to @lurkingshan for beta-reading this post

Can you do prompt no 8 with Sebastian please🥺
Hello, hello. Remember I said I couldn't decide between two scenarios? It was for this one. So, since you're an anon, I'll post that one just after this one! :)
As long as people are patient, I'll keep taking requests <3
Amelia had picked up painting in the past few months after finding an old easel and some paintings of her grandfather's. Sebastian had moved in a season and a half ago following their wedding. Robin had offered to upgrade the house as a wedding present, though Sebastian admitted to Amelia that his mom wanted to upgrade it 'so we'd be ready for any additions to the family.'
Amelia and Sebastian talked only briefly about having children. He was not-so-subtly anxious that he'd be a bad father, but Amelia saw that he would make an incredible father.
He started his frog sanctuary and they had adopted another dog from Zuzu. It wasn't the plan but she saw the look in Sebastian's eyes when he saw the little corgi in the window. She had gone back the next day to surprise him.
If he held as much love for their pets, she knew that he'd be an incredible father.
She spent the entirety of last Saturday hiding in the community center bouncing between crying and pacing. She wanted desperately to be excited but she was terrified both of how she would be or how Sebastian would react.
She had gone to Harvey after being nauseated for the entire week. He didn't seem too concerned until his face paled looking at her results.
Pregnant.
How was she going to tell Sebastian when he expressed how anxious he was? She stared at the little shapes on the sonogram… and she planned.
She had four days now to get herself together and actually found herself growing excited to be a mother. She had grown a little ravenous recently, both for food and for her husband. Needless to say, he certainly wasn't complaining.
She stood out beside the house, facing her fields with the easel and canvas in front of her. She really only had black, white, and gray paints, which was all she needed. She had the tiny, glossy sonogram taped to the front, just below the canvas.
Sebastian walked out to bring her a glass of iced tea for the third time, planning to attempt a peek at the painting. Before he could, she walked around, taking the glass and standing on her toes to press a kiss to his cheek.
"Are you painting the farm?" He smirked, endlessly curious about his wife's newest project.
"No. And stop guessing!"
"Is it Miso and Loaf?"
She laughed at that, "no, and you know I won't tell, love."
"Is it me?" He smirked, teasing, "am I nude?"
She rolled her eyes and sighed, "no, love. Though maybe next time."
"Ugh," he groaned, pulling her body against his, "am I even close?"
"Not even a little bit."
He gave a small sigh, glancing behind her and considering sneaking around the cabin to peek. She poked his chest, catching on quickly.
"Don't even think about it, Ainsley. It's a surprise."
He laughed and made a show of rolling his eyes, bending to kiss her forehead, "fine, but I miss you, so take a break soon."
She smiled up at him before turning back to return to the canvas, "I'm actually almost done, so I'll be inside in maybe an hour. Or I'll just call you out to show you."
He shot her an incredulous look before turning back toward the house.
She was right: it only took maybe 25 minutes to finish the painting. She stood, sonogram in hand as she compared the two. Honestly, for not having painted in so long, she was proud. She could see and understand each part of the scan. She gave herself a solid 15 minutes to gather her courage and text him to come outside.
It felt like seconds after she sent it that he was out the door, rubbing his hands together.
"Alright, Ainsley," he teased, his smile wide. Thankfully, he didn't see her slip the real sonogram into her pocket, "I actually get to see it now?"
She beamed, knowing she'd never get tired of hearing that. She held her hands out for him to take, which he complied with immediately.
"Close your eyes," she stopped him directly beside the painting, guiding him in front of it once he closed his eyes, "okay, you can look."
Her voice felt too small and she hoped he didn't notice. Their fingers had laced together, his thumb brushing over the back of her hand. He opened his eyes, his thumb stilling as he did so. He stared at it for what felt like hours before she squeezed his hand.
"Seb..?"
"It's an ultrasound, right?"
"Yeah," she paused, "well, a sonogram."
"It's… done really well, love," he tore his eyes from the painting and looked down at her, his eyes undeniably a little panicked, "does… is this… are you saying you want to try to…?"
Her heart sank a little at the low, unsure tone he had. She couldn't stop her eyes from stinging, tears threatening to fall. She wasn't usually someone who cried, so when Sebastian saw that she was tearing up, his panic increased tenfold. She didn't know how to tell him it was her actual sonogram. She didn't know how he didn't know or if he just pretended it was random.
His eyes widened and he pulled her into a tight hug, "fuck, Amelia, I wasn't saying we can't, I just.. I worry you know?"
Tears had spilled over as he held her, staring at the painting with his head resting on hers, "Yoba, I've never seen you cry and I really don't kn-"
She pulled back and pulled out the actual sonogram, pressing it into his hand. He stared down at it for what felt like hours, focused between the little white blobs and her name at the top.
Ainsley, Amelia
Amelia studied his face like there would be a test on his reaction. Finally, his eyes moved from the paper up to her, still wide and definitely panicked.
"This.. is it real? It's you?"
She bit her lower lip and nodded, all previous confidence she had fading. They just stared at one another for a moment before he looked back down to the sonogram, then up to the painting.
"You replicated it perfectly," he spoke. His voice was low and a bit shaky. He lifted a shaking hand and pointed to the larger of the white shapes, "is this…?"
"The head."
He exhaled, trailing his hand down to the blob below, "this the body then.."
She nodded, her eyes not leaving his face for a moment. His eyes met hers once more, surprising her with the glaze over his eyes, but more so with the break in his voice, "I'm really gonna be a dad?"
She nodded slowly, startling a bit when he laughed, reaching to wipe tears from her face. He pulled her into a tight embrace before almost immediately pulling back. She could feel his hands shaking as he held her arms  "wait, i.. are you okay? I didn't even ask.."
"You're not upset?" She interjected, her own voice unstable. His hands moved to cup her face in his hands, leaning in so his forehead rested against hers.
"I'm going to be honest," he sighed, "I'm fucking terrified. But that's not going to change that it's happening. That you and I are having a baby."
It felt weird to say, unusual to even think it was even possible.
"All I know for certain is how much I love you and the fact that I will love this child more than I even can fathom at this moment."
Amelia couldn't stop herself from kissing him if she tried, his shirt balled up in her fists. He made a surprised noise before melting into the kiss, forcing himself to pull back after a second, much to her dismay. He kept her close as he looked over at the painting again, pointing over to another random white area.
"What's that?"
She gave a small shrug before he pointed to the other round. White lump before looking at her. The question implied.
"Seb, Harvey said that.." she paused, trying to find the words that won't freak him out, "he said that it might be another head.." she was practically whispering, "it's too soon to tell. It's pretty much a little bean right now.."
The sudden flood of emotions left him dizzied. His mouth hung open as he stared. He looked downright terrified.
"They're beans…?" He asked, knowing the sentence was probably not what she was expecting.
"I.. yes. Well one app says a bean and another says a grape," she rambled, his eyes falling to her abdomen, still not showing at all, "I'm about nine weeks which would make me due…" she paused, doing quick math in her head, "around your birthday.."
His eyes shot back up to hers, eyebrows raised, as he did some of his own math, his voice quiet, "around the flower dance?"
She paused before laughing, remembering specifically when he was talking about, "maybe? It's not the only time we had sex though around that time.. you moved in like a month and a half before."
He let out a laugh, shaking his head, "well, I'm going to pretend it was then for now," he smiled, a small smirk playing at the edge of his lips, "one of the more memorable times, in my opinion."
She laughed, stepping forward to wrap her arms around his waist and slipping her hands into his back pockets, "I'll say. It's not often we fuck while the entire town is around the corner and could catch us at any moment."
He laughed then, bending to steal a kiss and lingering, "maybe it should be more often."
She pulled back and curled her lip, "Seb,  I'm about 75% sure the wizard was watching," she shuddered dramatically, "the way he looked at us when we came back to the dance freaked me out."
Sebastian laughed again, pausing for a long moment before he spoke again, his voice still timid though his face seemed to be filled with adoration, "so we're gonna be parents? You and me?"
She smirked, reaching up to touch his face, "I sure as hell hope it's you and me. Otherwise, it'd be immaculate conceptio-"
He cut her off with another kiss, deepening it for a long moment before pulling back, taking advantage of her surprise, "don't make fun of me. I just found out I'm going to be a father and I'm a little bit of every emotion right now," he stole one more quick kiss, "surprisingly, I'm really excited more than anything."
Her expression faded into a wide smile, "you're not scared anymore?"
"Don't be silly, I'm terrified," he chuckled, slipping his hand in hers before heading toward the front door, "it's getting cold, we need to get you inside."
She bumped his hip with her own, teasing, "oh, you're gonna be that kind of dad," she smirked, "overprotective of me the whole time?"
"Of course I am," he furrowed his brow, opening the door for her before following her inside, "babies are fragile and your body's working overtime to grow a kid."
She held her hands up in surrender, walking backward toward the bedroom before smiling mischievously, teasing, "does this mean I should start calling you daddy?"
He walked past her, slipping his hand into hers, a sour look on his face.
"Absolutely not."

Newlywed Games with Bree - Halloween Edition - Tobias & Casey
Tumblr media
Old-school-ish fandom members remember these! I completely redid mine since I had a different FC last Halloween, and I was at the beginning stages of creating an HC for Tobias & Casey - I didn't even know if they were endgame! Can you imagine? So, they needed a redo (so do Ethan & Kaycee, I'll be working on that next!) Thank you again to @jamespotterthefirst for this magnificent template that inspired so much creativity!
Their "interview" takes place just after their first Halloween together. So they're dating for about 7 months, but the two fools were in love a good 3 months before that. By this time next year, they're engaged with a baby on the way. They moved fast. lol
Tumblr media
More below break...
Tobias loved Halloween as a kid, mostly because of the free candy and the legendary parties his mother would throw. Momma Vivian was very, very extra about his costumes. But his mom's costumes were not as much fun once he started school. Fortunately, his dad (Charles) stepped in and asked his wife to tone it down. Tobias was then able to simply be his favorite superhero or ballplayer, and Vivian no longer had to call in favors from her friends from Broadway.
As a tween/teen, he would get into trouble on mischief night (I know, you're shocked!) In his later teens & college, he'd plan an attention-grabbing costume in advance, hitting up local bars where he took home many best costume prizes and usually a pretty fellow contestant as well. This only amplified when he hit med school and got Ethan on board. Though most of those antics were behind him once he became an attending, he still loved a good Halloween party and a good costume.
Casey grew up with parents who doted on her and made a full event out of Halloween each year. It wasn’t just about the day but the hayrides, corn mazes, and pumpkin carving parties that led up to it.
Her love for the holiday carried on into her college years and beyond. There has never been a year where she did not have a costume, and on most, she had 2 or 3. One was usually a fun/tamer choice for daytime, and another racier option for the parties she attended and sometimes hosted. Dating Casey meant you’d have a couple's costume. It was not up for debate.
These two are a match made in Halloween Heaven. Unfortunately, the first year they knew each other, Casey had broken up with him before Halloween, so they didn't spend it together (I have a fic coming up about that). The following year, they went all out. They had a couple's costume ready, and they had numerous parties to attend, but they only made it to one... you can imagine why. In year three, they were weeks away from their wedding (though secretly married) and had a baby on the way, but they still celebrated. Then after that, it was always a big family affair.
Tumblr media
Favorite Song: (Tobias laughs) C: What’s so funny? T: Nothing, It’s just that I went 36 years of my life not realizing that I never really lived until I saw you doing the Time Warp. C: Hmm. (Grins) But it’s the pelvic thrust that really drives you insane? T: No comment. C: And let me guess, your favorite Halloween song is... Ghostbusters? T: (Shocked) How did you know? C: Please, I caught you prancing around the bedroom pretending you were Ray Parker, Jr. T: What can I say? Bustin’ makes me feel good. (They fall into a fit of giggles.)
Favorite Movie? T: Don’t say it. C: The Nightmare… T: I said don’t say it… C: The Nightmare Before Christmas. T: Yes. Christmas. It’s a Christmas movie Case. C: Tell that to Jack the Pumpkin King. T: I’d have to talk to myself since that’s what you have me dressing up as this year, Sally. And I say, it's a Christmas movie. C: And what are you dressing up for? HALLOWEEN! You just proved my point! So what’s your favorite? T: Ha! Clearly, I win because you don’t know my answer. C: It’s the Adams Family. T: Wait! How…. C: It could be because you always want to roleplay Gomez and Morticia. T: Hey, Gomez is my man! We have a lot in common. C: Such as? T: We both know what we’ve got, and we appreciate it! (He winks and pulls her close, trailing kisses up her arms.) C: (Laughing) And I don’t even have to speak French!
Favorite Candy?
C: (Immediately screams) Kit-Kat!!! T: Then why do you always steal my Butterfingers? C: Because they’re equally delicious. T: Then share your Kit-Kats with me! C: No.
Tumblr media
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE FUNNY COSTUME ON YOUR PARTNER?
(Casey flips over a picture of Tobias dressed as Prince.) T: OK, you need to tell me what is funny about Prince. C: There is nothing funny about him, but you dressed as him... that’s a whole other story. T: You told me I was sexy, we ... you know what we did... for hours. Now it's funny? C: It's funny in a very sexy way. T: Whatever. (Shakes his head and flips over a picture of Casey dressed as Elle Woods.) C: Now, what’s funny about Elle Woods! T: (Picks photo up, leers at it lecherously with a lecherous grin on his face) Not a damn thing. C: (Smacks his shoulder to bring his attention away from the picture.) So why did you pick it? T: It’s just funny to think of you in law school.
C: I can't really disagree with you on that. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE HOT COSTUME ON YOUR GIRL/BOYFRIEND?
(Tobias tries to flip his picture of Casey over first, but she beats him, dropping a photo of him dressed as a shirtless baseball player.)
T: Wait, this was the year before we were dating. C: I know. T: But we were at that party together... I knew you were checking me out. C: I was not checking you out. T: Casey, we're together now. You can admit it.
C: OK, I was not checking you out... much... until you took your damn shirt off.
T: (Chuckles) Pretty irresistible, right?
C: You're an ass. Of course, YOU were all over me that night, and you didn't even know it was me.
T: I knew it was you. But I had to pretend I didn't know it was you because you weren't talking to me at the time. C: But I knew it was you. That makes no sense. T: Can we get back to how hot I looked shirtless. C: No. T: Ok, so let's talk about how jealous you were of that nurse who was flirting with me. C: I was not! T: Were too. What was her name again? C: (Instantly) Sophia. And I was not jealous. T: Which is why you recalled her name instantaneously. Sorry, Case, you just should have gone out with me sooner. C: (Appears annoyed but laughs.) Yeah, we probably missed out on a hell of a good time that night. T: I’m sure. At least you eventually came to your senses. C: (Swatted at him and laughed) So what do you have to share? T: (Flips a photo of Casey dressed as a very sexy angel.) C: T!!! (She grabs the photo). That wasn’t a Halloween costume!! T: Oh? Do you mean our roleplay costumes don’t count? Damn it. (He laughs.) C: You know damn well they don’t! (Raises her eyebrow at him.) Because I know damn well you have some others you liked more than this one. T: Yeah (grins), but I’m not sharing them. (Both laugh) WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COUPLE’S COSTUME THAT YOU HAVE WORN WITH YOUR BOY/GIRLFRIEND?
(Tobias tries to flip his first, but Casey wins again.) T: Damn it! C: That’s the thing about youth; we’re quicker! T: I’ll remind you about how dissatisfied you are with your old man's moves later. What have we got here? (He picks up the picture). C: T, we’ve gotten dressed up together once; we haven’t been together too long, remember? T: And whose fault is that? (Grins) C: That’s why I was so anxious to go first, now I have shown the world our amazing Beetlejuice & Lydia costume, and we’re done here. T: Yes, it’s amazing, but no, we’re not done. C: We’re not? T: No. (He flips a photo of them dressed as Aladin & Jasmine.) C: Oh my God! I forgot about this! T: You lie like the rug we were sitting on. C: It’s a carpet, T! I just didn’t think of it because it wasn’t Halloween. We were just cheering the kids in peds up. It was so nice of you to offer to be Alladin after Raf got sick and couldn’t come. (She kisses his cheek.) T: Yeah, I’m just that kind of guy. Do you know what my favorite part of this picture is? C: The cute little therapy dog on my lap? T: No. He was a nuisance. I was thinking positioning. C: (Smirks.) Really? T: Don’t act all innocent! Look at that hand action going on there. And in front of the children, Casey! I'm disappointed in you! C: It was nothing inappropriate! I was holding on because we were on a magic carpet ride and… T: Heh, heh, heh… C: Well, we did start dating shortly after this. T: Yep. POSITIONING.
Tumblr media
Monster Mash or Thriller?
In Unison: Thriller. T: If there were any question, we’d have to break up on the spot. (She hits him.)
Apple Treats or Pumpkin Treats?
C: Pumpkin! (Simultaneously) T: Apple! C: That’s only because you’ve never tried pumpkin. T: And I never will. C: Yes, you will. T: How? C: Food play. T: (Shrugs shoulders) OK, maybe I’ll like it. (Casey laughs)
Fruit Candy or Chocolate Candy?
In Unison: Chocolate. T: Again, if there were a question, we’d have to split. C: You’re so full of it. T: What? I have standards!
Trick or Treat, or Hand Out Candy?
C: Both. T: I’ve never handed out candy before. But I have been informed that I like it now. C: Damn right you do. T: You see.
Horror Movies or Kid-Friendly Movies?
C: If I had to pick, kid-friendly. T: Casey hates horror films. C: I HATE them. T: That’s what I just said. C: I was emphasizing. T: OK (he rolls his eyes)
Creepy Costumes or Cute Costumes?
T: I can go either way. They both won prizes for me in the past. C: Hmmm. T: What? C: Prizes. (In air quotes.) T: (Lifts her hand and kisses it.) Long before I met you, dear. And like you never had "prizes" of your own. C: Next!
On your partner: Sexy or Funny Costume?
T: Heh, heh. C: His answer is sexy. T: And yours? C: It has to be sexy, baby. You’re sexy in everything. T: So, if I got a Fred Flintstone costume, you’d… C: Let you go all caveman. T: (Smiles and shakes head). God, I love her.

5 | Spirit in the Sky
Pairing: Hinata x Fem!Reader
previous | next | greatest mixtape
The following Wednesday you’re summoned to spend more time yet with your family. Though it’s often torture to be around one parent, let alone two, you suffer through it for the sake of Sawamura and Fuyuko. Besides, it’s at Sawamura’s house and he actually has a television there like a normal human being so your dad will most likely be distracted.
I got a friend in Jesus
So you know that when I die
He’s gonna set me up with the spirit in the sky
When your song ends, you put your car and park and take the key out of the ignition. You sigh as you look over at the front door, dreading what’s to come. But like the big girl you are, you pull yourself together and open the car door.
When your finger reaches the doorbell, you pray to the clouds above that Sawamura or Fuyuko will answer the door. However, no such luck occurs when you find your mother’s botox-looking face open the door.
“Y/N, honey, you’re here. I thought you weren’t going to show. It was almost a quiet night,” she hums passive-aggressively.
“Yeah. I was just about to ask who died,” you smile back fakely at her. But when her smile drops into a frown, you pull out your fake laugh to complement. “Only kidding!”
After that, you push your way through the door and drop off your things. You say hello to Sawamura and Fuyuko, who also look surprised that you’ve actually shown up. Then, you hear the television coming from the family room. Knowing it can only be one person, you begrudgingly shuffle over.
When you see the back of his head from behind the couch, you take a deep breath before approaching him. “Hi dad,” you smile as you walk around the side of the couch.
“Oh, hi Y/N! Wasn’t expecting you here. I didn’t know your mother invited-“
“Will you shut up,” your mother intervenes before he can finish his sentence. “Of course I invited her. She’s always invited here.”
“Yeah, 'cause it’s not her house,” you smile at your dad, hoping he’d side with you. But sadly enough, he never does.
“Y/N, why do you always have to make everything about you,” he sighs. “You know your mother loves you. She’s just looking out for you.”
“Do you even know what you’re saying or is that just your default response?” you grumble. However, just when he sits up in his seat- meaning trouble’s about to start- Sawamura saves the day.
“Dinner’s ready!”
You break your eyes away from your dad as you make your way over to the dining room table. If there’s one thing good about tonight, it’s the food. Or else, yeah, you might have been too busy to make it.
Thankfully, the table is quiet as everybody eats. And that your mom doesn’t say something corny like “it must be good since everyone’s so quiet” like she used to when you and Sawamura were kids. But that was back when you all actually wanted to be around one another.
“Are the two of you almost ready for the wedding?” she then asks as you all finish up your plates. “Anything we can help with?”
“Actually, if you could double-check my numbers for the final guest count it would be really helpful,” Fuyuko speaks up. “All that math makes my brain go crazy.”
“Oh, well, Y/N’s good with numbers. She is a teacher, after all. I’m sure she’d be happy to,” your mother volunteers for you.
“I would love to, don’t get me wrong, Fuyuko, but I’m going away with my friends this weekend. To the beach. Sorry,” you tell them. No way you’re going to let your mom push you into helping out for a wedding that’s not even yours against your will. It’s not that you don’t want to help. Sawamura’s your brother. But volunteering you? God, she gets on your nerves.
“The beach? You didn’t tell me that,” your mother scoffs.
“Didn’t think I needed to seeing as I’m a grown woman and all,” you roll your eyes as you look down at your empty plate.
“Grown woman?” she chuckles aloud. “A grown woman would be able to find herself a date to her brother’s wedding without needing him to go out of his way to get one for you!”
“A grown woman shouldn’t need a date in the first place,” you hiss. “And I certainly don’t need you sticking your nose where it doesn’t belong.”
“Settle down. God, can’t we ever just have one peaceful dinner? One fucking dinner without screaming at each other?” your dad begins to escalate the situation, slamming his hands and utensils down on the table. “Why can’t we ever just get alone for one fucking night?”
With that, he storms off leaving the rest of the group in a stunned silence.
“I’m going clear my plate,” you nod in Sawamura’s direction before standing up and taking your dishes to the kitchen.
“I think I’ll do the same,” Sawamura nods back. “Fuyuko, Mom, I’ll take yours, too, while I’m up.”
“Thank you, son,” your mother smiles up innocently at him.
You shake your head as you walk to the kitchen where you place your dishes in the sink and your trash in the garbage.
“Well, that went better than I thought,” your brother sighs as he follows suit.
“Mhm, it was nice and quiet after dad stormed off. Hey, Sawamura, you know, if you and Fuyuko ever want kids maybe you could adopt mom and dad,” you tease with a big grin.
“No way in hell,” he chuckles at your comment. “Besides, I think they’d rather be with you.”
“Yeah right,” you scoff. “Only right thing I ever did in their eyes is go back for my Master's so I could teach at the university. I can’t think of a single other decision they’ve approved of. You, however, Mister Detective, are their pride and joy.”
“It’s not a competition, Y/N,” he shakes his head as he leans up against the sink and crosses his arms.
“Do mom and dad even know you smoke?” you then ask.
“Of course not. You know mom used to be a cop, too. Who’s to say she wouldn’t turn me in? She knows some of the older guys around the station,” he whispers back to you.
“Well she never did anything about it when she found out I was smoking back in high school. Except, you know, smashing my phone on the ground with her foot and dad cursing out my boyfriend at the time. Hey, maybe if he never did that then I’d have a date to your wedding.”
“Yeah, ‘cause any guy with a J name is such a catch,” he laughs.
“Beats going with some guy I don’t even know. Are you okay with me going with him anyway?” you then ask genuinely.
“Of course I am. He’s a good guy, I think you’ll have a good time with him. And I’m happy it’ll get mom off your ass. I know how that stresses you out,” he replies, meeting your level of sincerity.
“Thanks, Sawamura,” you smile. “When you put it that way, I appreciate the help.”
“Anything for my little sister,” he nudges you. “Now, let’s go back out there. We can’t hide forever.”
You let in a deep breath before nodding your head and exhaling. “Ready when you are,” you respond as you follow him out.

for a few episodes of oc we meet a woman named tia that elliot worked with in italy, there’s a flirty vibe but he’s weird the whole time, eventually they get drunk together and the next morning she tells him he told her there was a woman he was in love with (😀)
svu ep 9 noah finds out he has a half brother on his dads side, meets him and stays with him for a weekend in woodstock, amanda and carisi get married, amanda officially decides to leave svu for a teaching gig (built up for the past few eps) and drives to woodstock to spend time with liv and tell her in person, they have a conversation about livs feelings about elliot and how she wants to be as happy as amanda is now, liv says she felt like elliot was her Home, that kathy was the boundary, and that she’s not over elliot leaving her
svu eps 10-12 the gang arc, fin takes noah upstate to stay with his brother and liv asks elliot to bring noah home when they’ve finished the case. elliot and liv in livs (new!!) apartment, he wants to know why she didn’t call him when she got attacked. “because i knew you would try and protect me?” “there’s something wrong with that? i care for you.” then they almost kiss and do a Lot of face nuzzling and whispering. liv tells elliot she Wants to but she can’t because she’s scared things won’t work out. she tells him she’s not ready for this.
in the oc ep immediately following this scene we see liv in elliot’s call log - at the top above all his kids - he almost calls. liv sends a woman elliot’s way to help her with a case - she tells elliot “captain benson speaks very highly of you”
svu eps 11-20 several vague references to trauma and healing and abandonment that seem to have eo implications, we know liv has been working on stuff
oc ep 20 elliot has been taking care of his mom at home lately, bernie accidentally sets a table place for kathy, elliot sees kathy’s GHOST in the occb interrogation room (she’s in her hospital gown, in the interrogation chair)
svu ep 21 liv finds out oc is investigating the same suspect as svu so they team up, she meets elliot outside the new york public library (which … so romantic to me 🥹) and it seems like it’s the first time they’ve really spoken since he was in livs apartment. she also finds out amanda is pregnant bc carisi can’t keep his mouth shut
start oc crossover liv and elliot in occb going through files, she can tell something is off and eventually sees he’s wearing his wedding ring again, he tells her he saw kathy, there’s a Lot of eye contact and little jokes. they go talk to the guy who greenlit liv to the gang from ep 10 (in jail. where elliot throws him into a shelf). liv breaks up another fight by literally just walking in front of elliot, who folds so immediately it was almost embarrassing to watch. she says she wishes he hadnt done that, he says if someone tried to kill him - she interrupts and says she kill them. she tells him to protect the case not her. in the promo for next weeks ep we see liv get shot while with elliot, she says she’s hit
also elliot has enlisted amanda’s help in building a psychological profile for their suspect, they have a conversation about how she’s bored at her job and hasn’t been talking to liv. liv congratulates her on the pregnancy
this is so long sorry

Fallin' All In You (Alec Volturi x Cullen Reader)
A/N: This Idea came to me while I was in the shower one day and I finally had the creative spill to write it out. This is set around 80 years after the events of Breaking Dawn. The reader is Renesmee's daughter that she had with a human who she fell in love with and ended up turning into a vampire. I don't like the idea of Jake and Renesmee together because it is weird in my mind. I didn't intent for this piece to be as long as it is but the words were just flowing out of me. I hope you like this because I needed to get this off my chest, I was having a hard time focusing on request but now I should be able to write them no problems. I have more ideas on how to expand this so if you were interested in a part two just let me know, I love this idea so much. Bold Italics are song lyrics to Fallin' all in you by Shawn Mendes ~🖤Kenzie🖤

Y/n Pov
"Y/n/n it's time!" I hear my mother call up the stairs to me.
"Alright mom, I'll be down soon!" I yell back even if it is not needed, I know my father and mother can hear me from any where in our little house.
I then speed around my room and quickly pack my things before my mother or father can come see that I wasn't packed yet even through they asked me too a week ago. Moving around is something that isn't new for me, we move around every ten years or so because we all look like we are eighteen years old. I mean hell I have been in high school since I was seven years old, could you imagine redoing high school over and over again.
"Y/N Y/M/N CULLEN ARE YOU JUST NOW PACKING!?!" My mother yells as she walks up the stairs towards my old room.
"No, I am all ready, I promise," I say as I just finished packing, luckily enough.
I can see that she looks surprised that I am all packed up. "Your father is waiting for us by the moving truck, let's get your things in there then you are going to follow us in my car." She holds out her car keys for me.
"Mom where is my car?" I ask taking the keys from her hands.
"It is in Forks with your Grandparents," she says before grabbing some of my boxes and disappearing.
Right, we are moving in with more vampires. Well I am one to technically but I prefer being like a normal human being; I like food to much blood isn't really my thing, but I guess living forever is kind of cool.
I look around my room for the last time for probably a while, at least long enough for the people of this town to forget all about us. I don't have any friends because we move around so much, it is hard to plant roots anywhere. It gets very lonely, yeah I have my family but being with them all day every day can get old; no matter how much I love them. I just crave someone that I can have to be my own, I mean everyone in my family has a partner; Rose has Emmitt, Alice has Jas, Edward has Bella, Carlisle has Esme, my mom has my dad, and then there is little old lonely me all by myself. The last Cullen who hasn't found their mate.
I walk out of the house and walk out to my mom's car. I open the driver's door and start the car to let it warm up before we start our long journey to Forks, Washington. I haven't been to Forks since I was a kid which was over fifty years ago. I am excited to see everyone again. After my mom decided to go off on her own for a while we only saw our extended family during the holidays and weddings that they insist on having even though they have been married for centuries.
We are starting out at Forks High School, everyone else is going to be juniors while I am going to be a Sophomore, the reasoning for this is that the younger we can play the longer we can stay without being noticed.
"Alright, Kiddo are you ready to hit the road?" My father asks me before mom starts to pull out of our driveway in my father's car.
"Yes sir, am I following you?" I ask before walking over to my mom's car.
"Yeah, I think so, if not then you are following your mother. Just keep your GPS on in case you get separated from us for a bit," he says before walking at a human's pace to get to the moving truck.
"Sounds Good!" I yell before closing the car door and getting everything situated. I connect my phone to the car so I can play my music while I drive. I check all my mirrors and adjust my seat just a bit, before putting the car in drive with my foot on the break waiting for my turn to drive out of our driveway.
I gently pull my foot off the break and gently press a bit of pressure onto the gas pedal, only braking again when I reach the bottom of my driveway to look both ways to make sure I am going to be in the clear. When I know it is clear I turn on my blinker and go for it, before I know it we are on the highway. We drive for a total of ten hours before my mom and I have to stop because we needed to sleep. My father is going to keep driving all the way to Forks because he doesn't need sleep anyway. He will be there a day before my mom and I will be and that is okay.
*Time skip*
The next day mom and I leave in our separate cars early in the morning, we managed to lose each other on Highway 101 but that is fine because she told me just to follow the signs and I see that I will be in Forks in 66 miles, meaning less then a hour for me if no one is on the road. I stop at one of the little hole-in-the-wall gas stations to get gas, use the bathroom and get some snacks for the rest of my trip.
I make it to Forks in time for when school ends, which means I can follow one of my great uncle's and Aunt's home as I don't want to get lost. I park just before the school's entrance and pick up my phone to call Rose.
She picks up on the Second Ring, "Hello Auntie Rose, I am near the Highschool, can I follow you home so I don't get lost."
"Of course, you know what my car looks like right? " she asks
"Is it the Red one that just pulled out on to the street?" I ask putting my foot on the break.
"Yes ma'am that is me, I'll see you when we get home."
"Alright, sound peachy. Thank you!" I hang up after we say our goodbyes and I carefully follow the nice red car that is in front of me leading me to my new home.
* 4 months later*
"Carlisle, you have mail!!" I exclaim through the home as I walk into it.
I hear Carlisle appear in front of me, "Who is it from y/n/n?"
"There isn't a return address so I couldn't tell you." I say as I pass him the envelope.
Carlisle studies the envelope before flipping it over I see his brows furrow at the seal. He pops open the wax seal and pulls out what looks to be an invitation to something. "What is it Carlisle?"
"It is an invitation addressed to the family to a ball in Volterra Italy, from some old friends of mine." he states as his golden eyes run over the cardstock.
"Are we going to be attending?" I ask hoping that we would not be attending.
"I am afraid we don't have a choice, when the Volturi sends out invitations it is more of a demand then an invite."
"Will I have to attend?" I ask
"Are you apart of this family?" He asks back
"Well, yes."
"Then there is your answer, we leave for our flight in an hour."
"But Carlisle I don't want to be alone, I am the only one in our family who doesn't have a date to this ball. Do you know how lame it is to go to a dance solo."
"It will be okay, maybe you will find someone at the ball, now go get packed kiddo, I will tell the others what is going on." Carlisle says before disappearing from my sight.
Sighing I make my way upstairs and pack enough clothes for three days plus an extra outfit in case of an emergency, I decide not to pack a dress because I know Alice already has one picked out for me, because she likes these sort of things.
I drag myself downstairs with my packed suitcase for Italy. I see the rest of my family is already waiting for me with their own bags already packed.
"Don't you worry Y/n we are going to find you the prettiest dress when we are in Italy." My great aunt Alice speaks.
"Alright." I say trying to hide the disappointment I feel. I know I don't do a good enough job when I feel my mood start to lift and a smile breaks out on to my face. I look up at my uncle Jasper and narrow my eyes, 'I'm watching you Jas.' I project my voice in to his mind.
'why are you so upset?' he asks me silently in his mind.
I look away to continue our conversation without letting everyone else know. 'I'm just not looking forward to going to this ball alone, I will probably be the only person with out a partner.'
'Hey don't be upset, you could meet someone there who is in the same boat.'
'doubtful, I am just going to hide out in the corner during the night. But thank you for trying to make me feel better.' I wait to hear his reply before I release the projection in his mind.
My gift is like of my Grandparent's and mother's mixed in to one. I can shield people from reading my mind and those around me minds, then I can get in to some ones head and make them see what I want them too. I also have been practicing reading minds, I don't hear what they are thinking though, I see it like a movie in my own mind as they are thinking it. I am also trying to learn how to break shields, I have almost gotten through my Grandma's but she has far more practice with her gift then I do mine but maybe one day, if I get enough practice
The drive to the Airport was quite, I put in headphone because I wanted to keep to myself a bit. My mother checked on me a few times to make sure I was okay, to which I just nodded. When we get to the airport I stand in line with my dad while we wait to go threw security. On the plane ride I was seated by the widow, I wasn't seated next to anyone so it allowed me to get some much needed rest.
We get to Italy and it is a overcast day meaning that everyone can go out. Alice took me to go get a dress for tomorrow, while everyone is exploring what has changed in Italy before we make our way to Volterra. We are going to be staying in a few hotel rooms near the castle where the ball is being held, I am kind of dreading meeting the Volturi, I heard that they are ruthless and they are like some sort of Vampire Royalty.
I am in the dressing room trying on another god awful dress that Alice had picked out for me. This one is purple and it isn't very flattering to my body shape, "I don't know about this one Alice, I feel like an alien in it." I say while walking out of the dressing room.
I see her purse her lips shaking her head, "Yeah not this one, um I still have two more right here. Try this one." She says handing another dress.
"Okay." I huff grabbing the dress hanger and disappearing in to the dressing room, again.
I look at the dress she handed me, it was beautiful. It was floor length and looks as if it will hang slightly off the shoulders exposing my neck there is black bead work that is on the sleeves and down the front. I carefully get in to it, I slowly pull up the zipper that is located on the side, (it is like the dress even knew I was alone) I reach around me to quickly tie the sash in place, which also tighten the dress just a bit. When I look up I freeze, it fits like a glove and I, I look perfect in it. With a slight smile I open the dressing room door and walk out to where Alice is.
She gasps when she sees me in the dress, "Awe! you look so beautiful, that is the one for sure."
"Thank you Alice, I actually really like this one." I say having a hard time controlling my smile.
"Perfect, now let's get you back in your clothes and I will buy it for you." She says while smiling.
"Really?" I ask
"Yeah, that is the whole reason we even came here in the first place silly." she says as if it was the most obvious thing.
"Right, well I am going to get changed." I say heading back in to the dressing room.
*The Next Day*
It is the evening of the ball and I am actually excited about it. Ever since we arrived in Volterra I have felt like I belonged here, like it was home. I allow my mother to do my hair while Rose and Alice do my make up. I see Alice disappear for a second then she comes back with a box in her hands. I get my dress on then turn around to see Alice with shoes in her hands, they are heels.
"Are those for you to wear?" I ask
She shakes her head with a smile, "Alice, no! Please can't I just wear sneakers?"
"Absolutely not, you never dress up so we all are going to bask in it together." She puts the black Red Bottoms on the floor in front of me.
"you won't even be able to see them with my dress on." I whine out
"They are Red Bottoms, one of the most comfortable heels, just please wear them." she states while helping me in to the shoes.
I look around with the extra inches that were added to my height. It has been at least twenty years since I wore heels this tall. I walk out of the hotels bath room and see everyone is dressed and ready, "Wow you guys all look amazing." I say as I join them.
"Awe my baby! you look so Beautiful." My mom says as she gently hugs me.
We all exchange complements before leaving the room and locking it. We all walk down the streets of Volterra until we get to the castle. Once we make it inside I see a man in a grey cloak leading us down a hallway. We have to walk two by two so naturally I am the very last one in line as it is just me. We enter the beautifully decorated ballroom and I see my family all go in different directions leaving me alone. I glance around the room and find an open table off to the side, so I take the liberty of sitting down away from everyone else.
I take a slower glance across the room, I see couples dancing and Vampires socializing. I look to the left because I can feel eyes on me, my eyes soon meet blood red ones, I scan the face that they belong to.
Just as I was about to get up I hear my mother, "Y/n, this is Aro Volturi he is one of the three Kings, he wanted to meet you."
I peel my eyes from the man in the opposite corner and carefully get up from my chair. "It is nice to meet you Aro." I say not really sure how to greet him.
"It truly is a pleasure, would you mind." He holds his hand out for me.
"um- sure." I say as I looked confused at my mother, when she nods I hand Aro my hand.
He brings it closer to himself and I can feel his presence scanning threw my thoughts. "Truly fascinating. Have you met Alec yet my Dear?"
"No sir, I have not, was I supposed to." I reply honestly.
I see Aro look around and make eye contact with an older looking Vampire whom I assume was Marcus. I see the elder nod with a smile, "I think you will find him to be to your liking, he is over there in that corner." I see Aro point to where I was looking before.
"Oh, well May I." I ask trying to excuse myself in a polite manner.
"Of course Dear, please do enjoy the Ball." Aro responds before walking off.
I give my mother one last glance before heading to the corner that had been pulling my interest in. I slowly make my way threw the dancing bodies until I am in front of the man who is standing. I admire him for a minute, He is absolutely stunning and he feels very welcoming.
I feel him study me too until I hear his voice, which sounds like a god themselves, "Hello, my name is Alec."
"Hi, my name is Y/n Cullen, it is nice to meet you."
"Well, y/n would you like to dance with me." Alec says while holding out a gloved hand.
I place my hand into his and I allow him to lead me out to the dance floor, "I apologize now, I am not the best dancer. It has been nearly ten years since I been to an event like this."
"you haven't been to a dance since you were eight?" He asks confused.
"No, I was eighteen." I reply as he places on of his hands on my waist while I put one on his shoulder.
"You have heartbeat, aren't you a human?" he asks even more confused now.
"No!" I giggle slightly before responding, "I am a hybrid, Renesmee is my mother, I have been alive for at least sixty years. Time kind of blurs together when you are alone."
"Yeah tell me about it, but I think we won't have to worry about that any longer." he replies as I feel my dress flow around us as we spin.
"what do you mean by that?" I ask with my brows furrowing.
"Can you not feel the pull too, like you belong here in this moment?"
"Yeah, I have felt more at home here in Volterra then I do in Forks, but what does it mean?"
"You feel that way here and now because we are meant to be together, I have been waiting for you. It has been quite lonely since my sister Jane had found her mate."
"We're- we're mates?!?" I ask shocked
"Is there something wrong with that?" Alec asks almost sounding hurt.
"No! please don't misunderstand, I have been waiting for this moment for years and now that it is happening it is just a lot to take in." I say as we stop dancing and start to walk off the dance floor.
"Well don't be afraid to take it all in, we have forever together, if that is what you wish." he says before gently kissing the back of one of my hands.
"I would love nothing more, I just don't know how my family would feel about it." I reply making eye contact with him.
"We will handle that when if comes to that. Now why don't we go some where more quite to get to know one another?" He asks nodding towards the door.
I just nod at my mate in reply. He then gently leads me out of the ballroom and through the castle. I look around in wonder as we pass through the hallways until we make it outside. I see that we are in some sort of garden,
"Alec, it is so beautiful out here." I say as we sit on one of the concrete benches looking at all the flowers in the solar lights around the garden.
"Not as beautiful as you Cara Mia." he says gently moving some of my fly away hairs that fallen out of place.
"I am sure you have seen people that are more beautiful then little old me."
"Why would you say such a thing, you are by far the most beautiful creature that I have had the pleasure of laying my eyes on." He says getting off the bench and crouching down in front of me.
He gently lifts my head up to look at him instead of my lap, "Who has told you otherwise? Who hurt you Cara?"
With tears in my eyes I pull my face from his hands, "It was a long time ago and it isn't important anymore." I look up to stop the tears from falling from my eyes.
"If it still upsets you this much it is important to me. I know we just met and for that you don't have to tell me but what can I do to get blessed enough to see that perfect smile again."
"Thank you. Um well for starters I want to get these devil sent shoes off my feet." I laugh a bit before continue, "And a hug would be greatly appreciated."
"What do you mean Devil sent shoes." He laughs
I gently pull the skirt of my dress up to reveal the six inch strappy Red Bottoms that Alice made me wear. "These are Devil sent, I wanted to wear sneakers but no."
"Why would you torture yourself if no one would see them anyway." He gently starts to reach down, "May I?" he asks permission before continuing.
"That was my point exactly, and yes please." I say as I watch him gently unclip the straps before relieving the pressure from my feet by taking the shoes off. He gently puts them on the bench next to me before standing.
He holds a hand out in front of me, "Now to fulfill my loves second wish tonight."
"Be prepared because I am about to be six inches shorter then I was." I say before taking his hand allowing him to gently pull me up in front of him.
"I think it makes you cute that you are this much shorter then me." He states before lifting my arms to wrap them around his neck.
"Of course you do." I tease while gently playing with the hairs at the nape of his neck.
He smiles before pulling me closer by my waist until our bodies are touching. I raise to my tip toes to make the hug more comfortable. I let out a squeak when he lifts me up off the ground a bit before spinning us around.
we both giggle as he places me back on the ground. "I am just so mindblown that I finally have gotten the opportunity to meet you. Now that I have met you I don't know how I survived without as long as I did."
"I know I feel the exact same way, I don't want to leave." I say while gently placing my forehead on his as he gently sways up back and forth in the slight night breeze.
"you don't have to go, I am not going to send you away. I was actually hoping that you would be staying here with me in Volterra." he says before gently bumping my nose with his.
"I hope my family will let me." I reply pulling away so I can play with Alec fingers before I take the chance to intertwine them with my own.
"Cara, you are a full grown adult, you don't have to ask their permission to do what you want to do." He says while leading me out of the garden and back in to the stone castle.
"I know but I just don't want them to feel disappointed in me, oh I have to go get my shoes."
He stops walking and turns my body to face him, "you need to stop thinking about how to make other people happy and focus on putting yourself first, and stay here I will go get them for you."
"It is harder then you may think." I reply maintaining eye contact as he walks backwards to get my shoes.
"I will show you how and I will be here to remind you how beautiful you are everyday." he says as he hands me my shoes, "Now come here."
"Can you keep me steady while I put my heels on?" I holding on to his shoulder.
"Silly girl, you are not putting those back on, I'll carry you." He says before placing one arm on my mid back and the other under my knees, lifting me up as if I weigh nothing.
"I am so lucky to have you, I just know that we are going to very happy." I smile as I place my arms around his neck as he walks us through the castle.
"I want to show you something Cara." He says as he leads me further and further in to the beautiful castle.
With Alec coming into my life at this point in time I can feel things are starting to fall in to place. The things about myself that didn't make any sense are starting to become clearer.
Jane's pov
The Ball is in full swing when I finally realize something is missing, my brother Alec hasn't asked me to dance yet. It is a tradition that we have had because when we hadn't known our mates we would dance to at least one song to enjoy the night. I decided to keep the tradition going even through I have found mine.
I feel the tail of my dress flow behind me as I walk, I come to an abrupt halt and look all around the room, scanning for the familiar brown hair of my brother. I start to panic when I realize that not one of the vampires in this room is him. I quickly look for Demetri, once I find him I march over to him on a mission.
"Demetri!"
"I didn't do it Jane I swear!" He turns around to face me.
"What? Demetri what did you do?"
"Nothing! What can I help you with Jane?"
"Alec is missing, can you help me find him."
"Now? like right now?"
"Yes now." I deadpan
"Okay, I need to get out of here first." Demetri says and starts to walk toward the exit.
I follow behind him until we are out of the Ballroom. I see him focus on what I assume is Alec's Tenor. We both start walking when he suddenly stops in the middle of the hallway.
"He goes in two different directions here, this way is the most recent, he had someone with him too." Demetri says before turning to the right
I follow him further still confused as to who could be with him, maybe an old friend that was invited. I just am wondering what could have been so urgent that he didn't tell anyone that he was leaving.
Y/N pov
When we reach our destination Alec gently places me back on my feet so he can open the door, to what appears to be a room. We both enter the room; I look around and I see a desk with art supplies on it a bookshelf and a fireplace. There is also a bed over by the window.
"I thought Vampires don't sleep." I tease Alec lightly.
He closes the door behind me, "Us vampires have more than one use for them." He winks at me before he goes over to his desk.
I feel my cheeks get warm then he starts talking again, "Relax Cara, over the years I learned how to allow myself to be in a deep meditative state, it allowed me to see things." He shuffles through some papers before pulling out a few.
We both walk over to the bed and sit down side by side. He places the papers in front of me in a row. I lean over slightly to get a better view of them and when I see them my breath hitches. Imprinted into the paper were delicate lines that mapped out....my face, "Alec is that?"
"Yes it is Cara, I have been seeing your face in my mind for the last eighty years or so, I have almost one of the pictures for every day. I drew one every night I saw you because I wasn't sure if it would be the last time I saw you or not."
I gently stack the pages and put them carefully to the side, so I can move closer to Alec. I place one of my hands on his cheek to tilt his face towards mine. I look into his red eyes before trailing my eyes down his face to stop on his lips, "Alec, would it be okay if I kissed you."
Instead of getting a response I feel Alec slowly close the distance until our lips touch is a soft kiss. I pull away and Alec's lips try to follow mine, I giggle and kiss the tip of his nose before getting up off the bed. I look around and notice that he has a cd player and a ton of music. I turn on the cd player and hear a soft familiar voice and guitar. I hear Alec get up as he turns up the volume a bit before he pulls me in by my waist so we are dancing around his room.
I hear him softly sing, "you are bringing out a different kind of me There's no safety net that's underneath, I'm free, Falling all in you. You fell for men who weren't as they appear. Trapped on a tightrope now we're here, We're Free, Falling all in you. Every time I see you, baby, I get lost, If I'm dreaming Baby please don't wake me up."
Jane's pov
Demetri leads us to the door of Alec's bedroom but pauses before the door, " I am not going to barge in there but if you want to fine, I am not going to be on Alec's bad side."
"Hmm" I hum before I quietly open the door and peek inside, I smile when I see Alec slow dancing with a woman to a song in his room. Without disturbing them I quietly back out of the room and silently close the door with a smile.
Tumblr media
"What was it Jane?" Demetri asks
"He finally found her Demetri, after all these years; He found her."
Demetri opens his mouth in shock before smiling, "That's great, do you know who she is?"
"No I never seen her before, but that doesn't matter. What matters is that he found her." I say as we both walk back to the ballroom with smiles on our faces.
The smiles are short lived when Renesmee walks up to Demetri in a slight panic. "Demetri can you help me with something?"
"What's wrong Renesmee?" He asks
"My daughter Y/n is missing, we can't find her anywhere. I was wondering if you could locate her tenor through me?"
"Yeah I can do that, I am sure she isn't far." Demetri says before leading Renesmee out back the way we came.
Renesmee's Pov
"Thank you Demetri I really appreciate this." I state as he leads me through the castle.
"Of course it is what I do..." He trails off as he comes to a halt.
"What is it, is something wrong?" I ask starting to panic.
"No everything is fine, she is actually coming this way now." Demetri says pointing at the top of the stairs.
I can't see my daughter yet but I can hear her laugh, a sound that I haven't heard for a long time. It almost brings tears to my eyes at how happy she sounds. I see her and a tall figure starting to walk down the stairs while look at one another.
"Oh, this changes things." Demetri says as he sees who is with my daughter.
"What do you mean?"
"Jane asked me to track Alec for her just before this and she says that she seen them slow dancing in his room, she's his mate." Demetri explains.
"Oh...yeah this does change somethings." I say before I hear my daughter's voice.
"Mother, is every thing alright?" She asks as she walks to stand in front of me, I watch Alec come to stand next to her.
I smile at them both, "Yes, I was just worried about you. I couldn't find you and no one knew where you ran off to. Alec it is nice to see you again."
"It is nice to see you again as well."
"Y/n/n I hate to inform you but the dance is over, it is time for us all to go back to the hotel room. Everyone else is out front still and you have a bit of explaining to do when we get back."
I see her frown slightly and it breaks my heart to separate the two so soon, "Yes ma'am," she sadly says before pulling Alec in to a tight hug.
"Y/n/n I promise you can come back and see him tomorrow if he doesn't have any duties." This makes Alec and Y/n smile again as they pull away.
"I will come get you tomorrow Cara Mia." I hear Alec whisper moving some hair out of y/n face.
"I will see you then." she responds before very slowly walking away from him and toward me.
We both walk slowly to the exit, when we are out of their ear shot I ask, "Was he treating you right?"
"Yes he was very kind and sweet."
"You know the rest of the family isn't going to approve right?" I ask her sadly.
"I know mom, but I don't want to have to live with out him, for the first time in I don't even know how long, I- I felt complete. I felt like I am finally....Home" She says as some tears slip.
"You are my daughter and the only thing I can wish is for you to be happy, I have not heard you genuinely laugh in a long time. I will help you talk to the family. I am not prepared for you to stay here in Volterra but if it will make you happy, I can't get in the way of that." I state hugging my only daughter tightly.
"I love you mom." she whispers
"I love you too baby, more then you will know, now let's go to everyone else before they tear apart the castle looking for us." I joke walking us outside to everyone else.
Y/n pov
Now that I know that I have my mom's support confronting the rest of the family does not seem so scary anymore. I just hope that they can look past the rivalry with the Volturi and see this as an opportunity for our two clans to unite. At this moment I know that I won't be able to live without Alec, even the thought brings a pain in my chest. I will do what ever I have to do to stay, I just hope it won't cost me any family members in the process.
If they try to make me chose between them and Alec, I already know who it would be and the thought of living without my family is not any more pleasant then living without my mate.

how could i hate you?
pairing: sebastian stan x reader
request: “would you mind writing a sebastian stan x reader fic? i had this idea where the reader & him have been dating for a while. he meets her parents & the readers parents are super rude & small minded. the reader is worried about how he’ll react. you decide the ending. can it be angst & fluff? it’s personal” - 🥺 anon
word count: 2k
warnings: controlling and derogatory parents, swearing (use of the word f***ing, but it only occurs once)
Tumblr media
“Hey, sweetheart? You almost ready?” Your boyfriend called to you, from the other room. You were trying to put on a necklace, but you couldn’t get the clasp to close because your hands were so shaky. “Almost” you croaked, trying to push back the tears.
Tonight, you were taking Sebastian to dinner with your parents. He was going to meet them for the first time. Your nerves had consumed your entire body. Your hands were shaking, and you could feel your heart in your throat.
You loved your parents, but they tended to be hypercritical. They had both lived in a small town their entire lives. Small towns breed small mindsets. They weren’t the most supportive when you decided to move to Los Angeles. They didn’t understand the appeal of a big city.
You could handle their criticism, but the last thing you wanted was for them to be rude to Sebastian. He cared so much about their approval, and you wanted him to have it.
Sebastian peeked his head into the bathroom and saw the tears that were welling up in your eyes. Before even saying a word, he enveloped you in a hug. He kept his arms wrapped tightly around you. “What's wrong, sweetheart?” He asked, while rubbing your back.
You took a deep breath and pulled out of the hug. Sebastian had a worried expression on his face. He cupped your face and left a soft kiss on your lips. “You can talk to me” he said, softly. You nodded.
“I’m really fucking nervous about tonight” you told him, your voice breaking. He pulled you back into a hug and pressed kisses into your hair. “It’ll be okay. I promise” he assured you, but you couldn’t even let yourself believe his words.
You held the collar of his shirt and buried your face in his chest. “I know how they are, Seb. They’ve always been super critical. I don’t want them to say anything rude to you” you mumbled into his chest.
He hummed, letting you know that he understood. “I’ll be fine. I’ve dealt with criticism before. Besides, how could they not like me. I’m pretty amazing, right?” He joked, causing you to giggle.
You pulled away and lightly hit his arm. “There’s that smile” he said, smiling to himself. He took the necklace out of your hand and gestured for you to turn around. He clipped the hook together and then spun you around. “It’ll all be okay” he said, before taking your arm and pulling towards the front door.
As you drove down the highway, you started to tap your fingers on your thigh. It was your tell tale sign that you were nervous. Sebastian, knowing all of your little quirks, noticed instantly. He reached his hand over and interlaced his fingers with yours. “It’s just one dinner” he said, softly.
The words brought you comfort. Your parents could attack every part of Sebastian’s character, but it was still just one night. You both could home and pretend it never happened. While you wanted their approval, you didn’t need it to be happy.
He pulled into the parking lot of the restaurant. Before unlocking the doors, he looked over at you. “I’ll be right by your side the whole time” he said, giving you a gentle kiss. He let you take a few deep breaths, and then you both got out of the car.
You saw your parents sitting on a bench outside. They smiled when they saw you both walking towards them. You could tell it was a fake smile, but you allowed it to go unmentioned.
“You’re only ten minutes late. That’s a new record” your mom whispered, as she pulled you into a hug. You pulled away and kept an equally not-genuine smile on your face.
“Mom and Dad, meet Sebastian” you said, introducing them officially. He gave your mother a hug, and then moved to your father, shaking his hand. “That’s a nice car you have. A little expensive for my taste, but nice” your dad said, giving his signature backhanded compliment. Sebastian noticed, but just thanked him, trying to make a good impression.
Sebastian quickly opened the front door to the restaurant and allowed you all to walk inside. His hand found its familiar spot on the small of your back as you all waited for the hostess. He gave you a hopeful smile when your parents looked away.
Eventually, the hostess walked over to the stand. “Hello. I have a reservation for four. It should be under Stan” Sebastian told her. She nodded before grabbing a stack of menus and leaded you all through the restaurant.
You made it to the private room that Sebastian had requested. “Oh a private room? He’s already trying to win us over with his money” your mother sharply remarked, barely above a whisper. Sebastian pulled your seat out for you, and you all took your seats.
“So why did you pick this restaurant?” Your dad asked, at least trying to make conversation. Sebastian lit up as he remembered the story that followed along. He gestured to you, letting you tell the story.
“This was the restaurant that Sebastian took me to on our first date. I remember how nervous he was. He wanted everything to be perfect. He ordered me one of every dessert, so I wouldn’t have to pick” you said, resting your hand on top of Sebastian’s on the table. Your parents smiled as you told them the story, and you hoped it was a good sign.
“So how did you two meet?” Your mom asked you. Sebastian looked over at you, as if asking permission to tell the story. You gave him a reassuring nod. “We met at a wedding. We both knew the bride and were invited to the wedding. We got seated next to each other during the reception, and we got along really well. The rest is history” he said, smiling over at you.
It was heart warming to watch Sebastian reminisce over the night it all began. A lot had changed since then, but he was still your rock.
After a dinner full of snarky remarks and subtle insults, you were about to blow. Sebastian had his hand on your thigh, and he was trying to calm you down. All the insults had been directed towards him, but he was the one who kept a level head. You, on the other hand, wanted to scream at your parents.
You were almost done. You just had to wait to pay the check, and then you could go home and pretend this night never happened. You were so close. The waiter set down the check, and it was like you could see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Sebastian reached for the check. You heard your dad scoff under his breath. You snapped.
“Alright. Out with it. What could you possibly have to say?” You asked, finally breaking. Your mom looked taken aback. “I’m just not shocked that Mr. Hollywood is trying to pay for dinner. He’s made it clear that he thinks he’s better than us” your dad said, crossing his arms.
It made your blood boil. “He’s buying you dinner. Why can’t that just be a nice thing?” You asked. You genuinely wanted to know why they were so offended by every nice gesture Sebastian made.
Your mom's expression changed as though she had been insulted. “It’s not just about paying for dinner. He’s trying to show us how much money he has. He thinks he’s better than us because he’s a fancy movie star. So what if we live in a small town? At least we appreciate the small things. All he does is spend Daddy’s money. He’s probably never had to work a day in his life. You actors are all the same” your mom chimed in.
Now, you were glad you were in a private room, so no one had to hear your screaming fest. You instinctively reached for Sebastian’s hand. You stood up from the table, taking him with you. “We’re leaving” you said, before heading towards the door. You pulled Sebastian with you.
You stopped before you grabbed the door handle and turned around to face your parents. “You know what? I have dealt with your criticism all of my life, but you are not going to attack Sebastian. He took you out to a nice dinner, and he has done nothing but be polite and kind to you. Also, he has earned every bit of his success. He left Romania at eight years old, and he built himself an amazing life. So, don’t sit here and tell me who he is. He is a loving boyfriend, and that is all that should matter to you” you said.
You turned to leave the restaurant and had to fight back the tears. Sebastian kept his arm wrapped around your waist as you exited the building. “I’ve got you” he whispered in your ear.
When you finally made it outside, he pulled you right into his arms. “Please, don’t hate me” you mumbled into chest. He pulled away from you, and all you saw on his face was confusion. “How could I hate you?” He asked, his voice softening.
“Because I was the one who said yes when they asked to meet you. I should have said no. I should have made up an excuse. I should not have made you sit through that excruciating dinner. I am so sorry” you apologized, genuinely. He cupped your face, and you could see his heart break. “Baby, I could never hate you. None of what happened in there was your fault” he assured you.
You felt a tear run down on your cheek. You felt responsible for your parent’s actions. “But they were horrible in there” you told him, confused. He wiped away your tears, hoping to wipe away the whole experience with them. “I don’t need anyone’s permission to love you” he said, before leaning in to kiss you.
“Thank you” you said, pulling him into a hug. Sebastian was always there for you when you needed it. He always knew how to calm you down. “Of course, sweetheart. Now, go sit in the car. I left my phone inside. I’ll be back in five minutes” he said, kissing your temple. You nodded and headed towards the car.
Sebastian walked back inside, but it wasn’t to grab his phone. His phone was right in his back pocket. He had kept his cool throughout dinner because you were at his side, but he had to stand up for you and himself.
He walked back to the room and found your parents still there. They were talking to each other and wore disgusted expressions. “Oh, he’s back” your dad said, his voice filled with disappointment.
Sebastian took a deep breath and maintained his composure. “I know you don’t like me, so I’m going to say this once. I love your daughter. She's the reason that I sat through this entire dinner and continued to be polite and smile. I don’t care if you approve of me, but in front of her, you will at least be civil with me. I had to watch her cry in the parking lot because she was worried you two would scare me off. I had to watch her worry that I might just walk away. You broke her heart tonight. If you do it again, I won’t be this polite” he said, before walking out of the room. He walked straight to the car, without any form of expression on his face.
When he got in the car, he simply gave you a smile. You were still worried. “Did they say anything else to you?” You asked him. He shook his head and took your hand in his. “They had already left” he lied, dismissively.
You nodded and gazed out the window. I love you, you know that, right?” Sebastian asked, causing you to look over at him. “Of course I know that. I love you too” You asked him, confused.
He shrugged. “I just wanted to remind you that I’m never going to leave you” he told you, genuinely.

word count: 3.2k
-----
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry I’m late!” You slide into the booth and throw your bag down next to you, hoping to god you don’t look as frazzled as you feel; this restaurant is far too nice.
Nate just smiles at your words, too familiar with your family by now to know that you’re always running 5-10 minutes behind. He’s ordered a bottle of wine- a nice rosé, fitting for the beautiful end of summer day- and had already started pouring a matching glass for you the second you started sitting down. “How’d the interview go?”
You bite your lip. “Eh.”
“I’m sure it went better than you think.” Nate says encouragingly. “You’re too hard on yourself. All three of you are.”
And well, that’s not a lie. Your siblings were just as critical of themselves as you were. Sid was famously known for it and Taylor, your twin, was as bad as you. But…
“Listen to you!” You laugh at him. Nate’s just as bad as the three of you. A mini-Sid in many ways, to many people in your hometown.
But that was in Canada. This was Denver. And here, Nate was cool. Laid-back. Lowkey. Everything a professional athlete should be. Nobody knew about what a dork he really was, except his teammates.
And now, maybe you too, if all went well with this job interview.
“Don’t know what you’re talking about.” Nate says, looking at his menu to feign ignorance.
You giggle, pulling your own up toward your face. “Sure, buddy.”
It’s not often that you and Nate spend time one on one like this, even if you see him all the time over the summer. He’s usually with your brother when you see him, politely trying to decline your mom’s invites to dinner or already hanging at Sid’s house when you invite yourself over to your brother’s house for pool or lake time. Usually time one on one with Nate like this is brief, usually like in passing while he’s waiting for Sid in the kitchen while you’re eating.
It’s nice. Nate’s funnier than people give him credit for and it’s easy to relax into dinner and conversation, to forget about the anxiety from your interview as you chat about what’s new for both of you and gossip about people you both know.
By the time he drops you off at your hotel, it’s late and you’re too tired (and maybe just on the right side of tipsy) to even worry about the interview. You just barely change into pajamas, run through your nightly routine, and climb into bed, before shutting the lights off. It feels like you’re asleep before your head even hits the pillow.
In the morning, you’re awoken by the sound of your phone ringing, and it takes a second for you to place the sound, but when you do you pounce on it, recognizing the local area code immediately. “Good morning.” You say, trying your hardest not to sound like you woke up literally thirty seconds ago.
It’s human resources, from the job you interviewed for yesterday.
You got it.
-----
“Ew, no!” Your dad holds his hands up innocently, when you rush over to stop him from unpacking a box. “Why would you put that there?”
“Hey, sweetie, maybe it’s time for a break.” Your mom says gently, exchanging a look with your dad, who nods his agreement enthusiastically.
Which is fair. You’d just about almost taken his fingers off just because you didn’t like where he was unpacking colanders.
“Dinner!’” Your dad latches onto immediately. “Nate offered to take us all out tonight, I’ll let him know we’re ready.”
“Ready?” You frown, looking down at your workout shorts and baggy t-shirt.
“We’ll be ready in an hour.” He amends, already texting Nate.
Nate knocks on the door to the new condo you’re renting an hour and fifteen minutes later, sheepishly grinning when your dad tells him that you and your mom still need a few minutes. “Thought I had my timing perfect.”
Your dad snorts. “Oh buddy. Keep dreaming.”
He’s not too off on his timing, but unfortunately for Nate, you don’t have too much else going for you in your condo yet. Your dad had gotten your TV all set up, but in addition to the TV and living room furniture, you haven’t gotten much else, and that includes food and beverages. So the two of them sit in mostly silence while they wait another few minutes for you and your mom to finish getting ready.
“I told you that you should have just met us there.” You tell Nate, as he trips on a box on his way out the door.
“Oh, so this wasn’t deliberate sabotage?” He deadpans.
“You caught me. Just trying to keep you around the city full time until I have time to make better friends.”
Nate laughs, as the two of you follow your parents out the door. “Be nicer to me or I won’t introduce you to my friends.”
“Who said I want to be friends with your friends?”
“Children.” Your mom turns to look back at you and Nate smiles at her innocently, but it’s been a while since that’s fooled her. “Do we need to stay home?”
It serves to get the two of you moving, even as you laugh at her joke. Nate drives you to another one of his favorite restaurants, and dinner flies by, with Nate insisting on picking up the tab, even when your dad tries to fight him on it.
It’s started to cool down a little by the time you’re walking back toward the car, Nate and your dad still fake-fighting about paying for dinner, and you find yourself not realizing you’re smiling at the two of them as you walk behind them until your mom bumps your shoulder. “A few hours off for dinner with some good company was just what you needed.” She says.
And even though the smile on her face seems too knowing, you’re too tired to ask about it right now, so you just nod in agreement. “Yeah, this was nice.” You smile back at her.
-----
Mel Landeskog pokes her head around the corner and you wave at her, trying to catch her attention. “Jesus Christ.” She shakes her head. “I didn’t think he was serious.”
“I mean.” You bite your lip. “I did have to work today.”
“I would have picked you up!” She shakes her head, muttering under her breath, and you know Nate’s going to get an earful from her later. “But no, no. That dumbass just let you come all the way over here by yourself. Sends me a text to come meet you by the door. All casual.”
“I mean.” You send her a look. “Did you expect anything different from Nate?”
It’s the way she looks at you and sets her face that almost has you nervous for Nate. You’ve known Mel for a long time now, but really, you don’t know her from more than just years of NHL events. “I do now.” She says.
You hope Nate knew what he was getting himself into sending Mel a text to come find you earlier.
Once she leads you up into the box with some of the wives and kids, she’s back to smiling and laughing, making introductions all around. The mood all around is light and easy, everyone excited for the home opener of the season, and happy to be back with everyone again.
It’s fun to be back in this atmosphere. Hockey’s been a part of your life for so long and there’s truly nothing like the energy of the first game of the season. You feed off the energy, catching up with some familiar faces and chatting with all the other girls, probably too excited when they invite you to a girl’s night later in the week, but it feels good to have plans that don’t involve trying to invite yourself to Nate’s when you’re bored.
“Hey, good job tonight.” You nudge him afterwards, catching up with him in the family room.
He laughs, pulling you in for a hug. “A little different than what you were used to?”
“It lived up to the hype, I guess.”
“I’ll turn you from a Pens fan.” Nate promises.
It’s your turn to laugh. “Feel Sid’s wrath.”
“What’s he going to do? Check me into the boards? Bring it.”
Nate’s been hanging out with your brother and your family for years now, so he should really know better by now. “Okay, buddy.” You pat his shoulder patronizingly. “Sure.”
“I could take him.” Nate insists.
“Throw hands. Next game. I dare you.”
He side-eyes you, because you both know that’s not going to happen and it’s only a minute before you’re both laughing.
“I better see you on Friday!” Ashley Kadri shouts out to you as she’s walking past with Naz and Naylah, interrupting your laughter. “No excuses!”
“I’ll be there!” You call back. “Promise!”
When you look back, Nate’s pouting-exaggerated, albeit, but pouting. “Are you ditching me this Friday?”
“Yup. Found better company.”
“How dare you?” He cries. “There is no better company.”
“Well.” You shrug. “I’ll know for sure after happy hour on Friday.”
“Find your own ride home.” Nate says and then he starts speed walking away from you at an absurd speed.
“Nate!” You protest, jogging to catch up and he finally slows down enough for you to catch up when you round the corner, bumping your shoulder right back when you purposely bump into him in retaliation.
-----
No one lets loose like a group of moms when they’ve got a night without their kids.
Someone has mentioned this to you before, at a bachelorette party or a wedding or something, but you don’t think you’ve ever seen it really in action before until this happy hour.
“If the waitress comes back, order me another drink!” Kerry calls, before running off to the bathroom.
The waitress nods at her, before addressing the rest of you. “Another round?”
“Oh, please!” Mel nods quickly and repeatedly.
“Can we get a few more orders of mozzarella sticks too, please?” You look down at the empty plates in front of you. “And maybe some nachos too?”
“Yes!” Jackie lights up across from you. “Great call!”
It pretty much only goes downhill from there and by the end of the night, both Mel and Ashley are crying for reasons no one is sure of entirely and you’re pretty grateful to see Nate among the group of husbands and boyfriends to come to pick up all their girlfriends.
So grateful you scream his name the second you see him. “Nate!”
He winces, trying to pull his ear away from you, but he’s laughing. “Guess you had a good time, huh?”
“Uh huh!” You nod enthusiastically, not realizing how loud you are until he winces again.
Nate laughs. “Alright, I think it’s time to go home.”
You gasp loudly. “I can’t leave my new friends!”
“Your new friends are all leaving you!”
You frown, but look around and realize he’s right. Naz has already sneakily pulled Ashley out of the bar and Gabe and Erik were collecting Mel and Jackie’s things. “Oh.”
“Oh?” Nate parrots. “Come on, get your stuff, crazy girl.”
“Hey!” You protest, grabbing your purse. “I am the least crazy person in my family.”
“I hate to break it to you.” Nate says, as he guides you into standing. “But that’s not saying much.”
He’s right, but you bump him with your shoulder anyway as you walk past. That’s about sibling honor and shit.
Nate parked too far away and by the time you reach his car, you’re leaning on him, the adrenaline from hanging out with friends wearing off quickly. Nate’s nice about it, guiding you to his car and then helping you into his front seat before heading around to the driver’s side.
“You guys had a fun time then?” Nate says, once he’s started driving and you’re half asleep leaning against the window. “Looks like it at least.”
“Yeah.” You nod sleepily. “But you were right.”
He chuckles. “About what?”
“There’s no better company than you.”
-----
Nate becomes pretty clingy after that night, texting and facetiming whenever he’s out of town, and stopping by pretty much anytime he’s got a free minute. It quickly becomes something you look forward to, missing his visits when he’s out of town and looking forward to his calls, smiling when his texts come in and breaking up your work day. And it isn’t long before you realize that you’re being just the same. Sending him messages before and after games. Inviting yourself over for dinner and making Nate cheat on his diet.
In a blessed move from the NHL scheduling department, Sid and the rest of the Pens are scheduled to arrive in town on a Friday morning and aren’t leaving until the end of the weekend.
They have a practice scheduled for early afternoon, which is perfect for you to wrap up your work day before heading over to watch the end.
Geno lights up when he sees you watching from the glass, the first person to acknowledge you, and skating over in the middle of the drill, leaving behind two shocked linemates. “Mini!” He shouts cheerfully, even as you roll your eyes at your least favorite nickname. All because you happen to be the shortest of your siblings. “Great to see you.”
“You too, Geno.” You smile warmly at him, a little annoyed that you can’t get a giant bear hug from your favorite pseudo-older brother right away. “But I don’t think a few other people feel the same right now.” You jerk your chin back over his shoulder.
He turns his head quickly but then looks back. “Psh. They’ll get over it.”
You bust out laughing, which is right about when your brother comes over, and in classic Sid fashion, is all about hockey. “Stop being a distraction.”
“I was minding my own business until Geno came over here!” You protest, even as Geno starts laughing and Sid eyes you skeptically.
“Why don’t I believe that one?” Sid says dryly and sure, maybe you were making faces at some of the guys you knew well as they were passing you, but you weren’t actively being a distraction.
“That’s your prerogative.” You tell Sid, who shakes his head and pulls Geno back for the remainder of practice.
Practice doesn’t last for too much longer and you spend a few minutes chatting with the coaching staff while you wait for Sid to change. But he and Geno finally come out of the locker room and you stop mid-sentence to throw yourself at your brother.
Sid’s laughing and so are you, but both of you start laughing even harder when Geno pulls you both into his arms. “Two of my favorite people!”
“Taylor’s going to be so offended.” Kris grins, watching the three of you amused.
“Taylor?” You grin back at him, going for a hug once Geno releases you. “How about his wife and kid?”
“Those are my other favorite people.” Geno reasons.
“Now I’m offended.” Kappy deadpans.
“You’re not even close.” Geno grins, roughing his hair.
Kappy tries to get him right back, but Geno just swats his hand away and then Sid’s shaking his head, like this is just the same shit, different day. “Look what you did.”
You grin, leaning against him. “Not sorry. I’ve missed this entertainment.”
Sid shakes his head. “Then you can round them up for dinner.”
You do. Easily.
Nate had suggested one of the team’s favorite restaurants and you’re happy to see that he’d accepted your invitation to join everyone, even if he rolls in a little late. You’re deep into Kris’ camera roll, looking at pictures of his kids and catching up on stories that you haven’t heard about them recently, so you don’t even notice he’s arrived and said hello already until he blows on the back of your neck.
You jump. “What the hell?”
Nate’s grinning. “Hey.”
You shake your head at him and bump your shoulders against him. “Hey.” You mimic and then turn right back to Kris.
But your shoulder stays leaning on Nate, and it remains there comfortably all night.
-----
Sid’s a little cranky when you first meet him for breakfast the morning after the game and you’re sure it has everything to do with the last minute turnover that cost them the game (and bragging rights over Nate this summer, which is really what he’s probably cranky about).
He gets over it pretty quickly though, and soon the two of you are laughing and talking, catching up about your family and your lives.
“-and I even love my office, the vibes are just great!”
Sid shakes his head. “Vibes.”
You grin. You know he hates that word. “Good vibes.” You confirm.
“So you’re liking Denver?”
“Love it.” You confirm, smiling.
“Meeting good people?”
You eye him skeptically. “Yes dad. I already said my coworkers are great and I’ve been hanging out with Nate and his friends a lot too. It’s good”
“Geno thinks there’s something going on between you and Nate.” Sid says casually.
The jump of your heart is far from casual. “Oh yeah?”
Sid eyes you but his response to that is surprising. “You know if there was something going on between you and Nate that would be okay?” He pauses, watching you again, but your face is completely neutral, purposely not moving. “Right?”
“You know if there was something going on between me and Nate that your opinion wouldn’t matter at all, right?”
He grins, laughing as he nods, but after he takes a bite of pancakes he says, “To you, yeah. To him, it does.”
“Why?” You blurt out, giving yourself away before you can stop yourself.
But Sid doesn’t say anything to that. He grins again and then changes the subject entirely.
-----
You only make it about a day before you’re knocking on Nate’s door, pretty forcefully.
“What’s up?” He swings the door open, with a frown. “You okay?”
“Does what my brother thinks really matter to you that much?” You blurt out. It’s been bothering you ever since Sid mentioned it at breakfast. That you lasted this long was probably a miracle.
Nate blushes and your jaw drops. “It-”
“Oh my god.” You grin delightedly. “Come on, really?”
“That’s not-” He blows out a frustrated sigh. “You’re really going to make me say it?”
You nod, but you’re pretty sure he’s not going to get far into what he’s going to say.
He sighs again. “It’s not about, like, his approval, or shit. It’s just- he’s important to you. So obviously he’s important to me-”
You kiss him.
“You know that you don’t even have to worry about that, right?” At some point, you’d slid one hand to his hip and the other arm around his neck, and the hand there plays with the hair at the nape of his neck.
“I’ll argue about that with you later.” Nate says impatiently and so you’re laughing when he kisses you again.
