I really liked Oppenheimer. I know it's not for everyone, but as someone who is interested in STEM and STEM history, especially pertaining to physics, this movie pushed all of the right buttons for me. I think it did a good job at showing just how flawed and utterly human many of these mythologized historical figures were in real life, and how the Manhattan Project was riddled with internal and external political factors from even before its conception.

I also appreciated just how utterly fucking powerful and eldritch they made the bomb. Obviously a significant portion of the movie is dedicated to the creation of the bomb, but it's often sort of a looming figure in the background. It's the increasing number of marbles in the jar, it's the steady theoretical and experimental progress, it's the dropping of dates for those who know the historical timeline of events. And when it's finally revealed, it's Fucking Terrifying. You pretty much never see the full mushroom cloud in frame; it's always a small portion of it or the flash of light shining on our characters. And the sinking feeling you get when the screen is lit up and you just know, you're anticipating that deafening blast from the shockwave because sound travels slower than light. And you feel guilty in a way because you have the privilege of knowing what's coming, while in your mind you know the victims of such devices had no idea before they were either vaporized on the spot or severly traumatized. It conveys so well the perspective of the scientists on the project, that you've challenged god and, although maybe not surpassing it, made something equally as terrifying.

Character-wise, I don't really have much to say. I do like that the latter third of the movie slowed down a lot to focus on the accusations made against Oppenheimer, which helped to flesh out a range of characters who were sort of just set pieces to Oppenheimer himself before the interviews. And despite my previous statement about breaking down the idolization of historical figures, I was indeed excited like a Marvel fan whenever one of my physics blorbos showed up on screen. "Holy shit it's Niels Bohr!!" "omg Lorentz my scrunkly wunkly!!!" "ITS BONGO GUY OMG BONGO GUY I KNOW HIM" like yeah a lot of them turned out to be Not Great People in their personal lives but I can acknowledge that while also geeking out at their recognition in mainstream media.

All in all, very good movie. I intend to watch it with my mom when I get the chance.

Been feeling like posting some doodles that are not necessarily the most recent for a while so I guess I’m finally doing that. Merry-not-Christmas here are my scraps

^ a couple of my sploon agent interpretations, Eight being less finished and also the one I wasn’t as proud of at the time of making but in retrospect I did the best I could come up with,,

My personal favourite agent is Four if you couldn’t tell by how much more detail I put into their design, I became interested in splatoon around when Splatoon 2 came out so perhaps it is a bit of bias, - what can I say though they’re under appreciated

^ I will also include this one despite the fact it is probably the oldest doodle here, I actually gave this one a name at the time where I didn’t with the others, (Salm intended to be like,, salmon, without the ‘on’, which is the only reason I remember)

Maybe I’ll expand more on my sploon agents interpretations in the future but no promises

^ Onto something non Splatoon related - a while back I doodled concepts for two tadc ocs, one based on a puzzle cube and the other on one of those wind-up mouse toys which honestly seem more like cat toys but I’m too much of a rodent enjoyer to pass up. Both of which I think are pretty silly goofy.

In typical-me fashion, I never came up with names for these girlies at the time, so if I ever take another swing at them I will make the effort to try and actually name them. For now they are blank slate scrunklies

The Jojolands: Weapons-Grade Lovable Dorks

Had to get caught up on Jojo's with a little breaksky from One Piece. I know I've said it a lot but holy crap is this part drawing me in right off the bat solely off of the strength of the characters. Dragona is a total treasure, and it's cool because you don't see Araki doing cute a whole lot but he's doing it very well! We're eleven chapters in and I still want to watch this whole group develop. Jodio's a great contrast and it is refreshing to do more of a sibling Joestar dynamic, Paco's developing into a good heavy, and Usagi? Well, it isn't called Jojo's Mundane Adventure you know? He's a little freak and it's starting to come off as the right kind of scrunkly.

You are starting to see more of a distinct identity form. Steel Ball Run & Jojolion felt like they took a long time to get into that, and a big reason I love Stone Ocean is how fast you get to know exactly who Jolyene is. The siblings are very mission focused and they love their mama the lovely Barbara Ann, who breaks up the tense segment beautifully. All this stuff with the watch and trying to suss out the mysterious lava rock is just plain working for me. And hey! It isn't just Dragona, Jodio really sold me on himself in this stretch:

Is it anything hugely unique for Jojos? Nah, but you are a man of action and there's a lot of charm in how steadfast he is. He's kind of an idiot and I do want to have time to play with the idea he doesn't always know what to make of Dragona, but there's also a certain wisdom and clarity behind his actions. He's feeling more like a looser Giorno and that's a great niche for your lead to hit. The current conflict with this sand stand dude is shaping up into a solid showcase for the main quartet that may be growing into a quintet depending on how the next leg of this fight goes. Speaking of:

I adore the artwork for this dude. How he manifests through these perspective-warping illusions. Type of stuff that reminds you why this author got to be featured in the Louvre. Seriously, this is some of the coolest shit I've ever seen in a battle manga and I kinda hope we do keep this guy around for no other reason than thinking this is a cool stand. I also want Dragona to get the pretty $80k watch because Dragona deserves all the nice things.

So yeah. Not too much to say now, I don't intend to just get every chapter with this because it's Jojo's so why spend months picking apart a fight that can do anything but I'm still very much engrossed in the story unfolding as-is. Hawaii is a great choice of settings and it's fun seeing such a modern group. Kudos to Araki for staying hip enough the teens feel like modern teens.

I finished catching up to dungeon meshi and I see the appeal now, Laios is relatable to many autistic people(and myself included) and Falin is beautiful and I too relate to her too(is she autistic coded too?) Chaotic adventure groups with comedy and angst that are cooked well(No pun intended). Love it, waiting for the next episode right now.

Are autistic coded characters taking over anime? Yes please be it confirmed or non confirmed, I'm happy to see that. I heard that apothecary diaries main character Maomao is also said to be autistic coded by fans. I wanna give that a watch too.

Then there's Wind Breaker that I wanna catch up Haruka Sakura is a scrunkly cat boy, I wanna see more of him. And I never watch a delinquent anime story, I wanna see what that is like.

Eggman did not design Metal to be fashionable through the ages fr. With Neo though it seems like Metal leaned into that part of himself 😂 At least it looks rad with a jacket ngl. Truly Bulma & Vegeta energy. 

Just them enjoying a day in town being a fashionable power couple <3 (and then the shitpost mini comic came along bc of brainrot). The jacket Metal wears in the first pic is actually based on a dream jacket design I thought of 😭 I am such an enamel pin hoarder and you know what, I think Metal would be too! I think he’d like having a fun little collection like that, and he’d love accessorizing but the intricacies of putting an outfit together for the day is too much effort so enamel pins are an easy constant. So it’s all because of autism you see- /j No but yeah Metal being allowed to have possessions and be an individual away from Eggman we love to see it. I struggled so much with designing the pins man, still not pleased with them overall but I had to declare this finished at some point it’s fineee Also I headcanon that Metal grows to slump his shoulders a lot because with Eggman he always had to be super rigid and perfect and stand straight as a rod, Eggman probably saying that slouching strains his mechanisms or something. But ayy now he can get a breather and Eggman can suck it, hah! Amy oils him and does other quality of life maintenance on him way more than Eggman ever did so bam it doesn’t even impact him. So yeah, Metal gets slouching rights to look even more gremlin and autistic…  /pos /lh  Also it compliments his shoulderpads lol.

No bc what if their theme color is the other’s eye color, bc Amy’s favorite color and what she wears is red but Metal’s is green bc green is associated with digital stuff and technology and oogfhbdcgsmdggdgfjjd I am so weak for them

I actually thought this was next week's doodle idea but then I checked my list on Monday and saw it was this week! SERENDIPITOUS INDEED!

lmels. Your lil guy. Your scrunkly. Was SO MUCH FUN to colour. EVEN WITH THE LIMITED PALETTE I HAVE! Trying to figure out how to make his jacket a lil grimey was fun! (I stared with PEELED EYES at SOO MANY KILLIANS while trying to do the beanie and the hair, I HOPE HE'S AT LE A S T RECOGNIZABLE!)

And yes I kNOW probably wine SHOULDN'T go into whatever warm chocolatey drink Jacqueline is having, but tbh, I was hella distracted by CR while colouring so it became wine instead of like, brandy or Bailey's or rum like I was ORIGINALLY intending. Although...I have seen rum similar to that reddish/amberish colour before so....maybe???

Anyway. Whatever's got them both feelin this kinda way is deffs directly Jack's fault. I'll leave that tidbit up to your imaginations 🤭🤭

Next week's scrimbly is a redraw! Then the week after is Into the Shadows spoilers! I've been working away at my second draft (which is notes tbh, really, really detailed notes) and I'm like 11 chapters in and so far, so good! It'll a bit of a CHALLENGE to write what with all the characters and the conflict of chaos versus order between the villains all while trying to make it a Charlie-centric story with a sorta uni au I guess, so basically the ride is going to be WILDIN >:)

Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san - Rant

I am currently watching season 2 and I have some thoughts (about both seasons).

First of all why did I start watching this anime? Erm... So I know what the target audience is, it's people who self insert as Naoto and want to date Nagatoro. As for me? Oh, it's the other way around. I think Naoto is cute and I want to bully him. I thought maybe my female friends were similar but the only friend I have who read the manga wants to make out with Nagatoro. Sorry, I forgot lesbians exist.

Uh, anyway yeah Naoto is cute and I want to be Nagatoro. Not sure if girls like me watching this was intended since these anime are usually made for lonely dudes, lol. Anyone else feel like me though?

The scrunkly.

Okay, so, my thoughts on season 1... Lemme check the episodes to bring back my memory a little bit, as I watched that to calm down from the stress that is social work during last Winter.

The first two episodes made me really scared to watch this series, for real. Nagatoro just straight up mentally tortured Naoto, and not in the hot way. I felt really bad for him because I know what it's like to be the shy nerd kid. Anyways at around episode 3, I think, Nagatoro starts showing her softer side more. And she hardcore crushes on Naoto.

The dynamic between Nagatoro and Naoto is really cute in my opinion, even if it is very simple. Nagatoro has her first crush because she finally found a guy that doesn't bore her to death but she doesn't know how to handle it so she bullies the fuck out of him. Naoto is pretty much the opposite? He doesn't really realize how much he likes Nagatoro sometimes and thinks he would rather not be around her. He tries to manage that by fighting her off in which classic anime romcom things happen. You know the "Holy crap you did something on accident, PERVERT!" thing, except it sometimes works really well. Maybe it's just because I think both of them are really cute, but I like when they have their little "Oh god, we both fucked up" moments.

Then there's the more obvious romance aspects and they're by far my favorite. The momens of honesty and the cute glances... Yep, they're adorable. I don't want to give away too much, sorry. Just know it's, in my opinion, the best thing in the series.

I don't care for the side characters by the way, but they can be enertaining when they point out how obviously both of our main characters are trying to "prove" that they don't like each other. They're the audience, the "just kiss already!" guys.

Also funny face cute. I like when she snaps. I like her. The cutesy. Okay no, for real, I love when Naoto and Nagatoro support or protect each other when they really need it. They can be a bitshitty towards each other sometimes but in the end they're actually kinda... healthy? Like Nagatoro is creepy but I love when the girl is a creep instad of the guy, since Naoto is actively watching out not to disturb Nagatoro. And how she will constantly accuse him of being a creep makes sense later when you realize that she's actually much worse than him, lol.

Okay let's get to season 2, since I keep using too many screencaps of that season anyway.

Oh boy, another anime studio took over with season 2 (now OLM, before it was Telecom) and it's very noticeable. The animation is stiff and sometimes just straight up doesn't move right, the art is a lot more bland, in season 1 there were a lot of beautiful warm colors and lineart, and the voice direction is very strange... That and also our main characters seem to regress a bit? Now being overly flustered over small things that they would've been fine with in season 1? I get it, they're supposed to be cute and awkward but it's the classic romcom regression...

I'm in the middle of watching season 2 and sadly the things I loved in season 1 just aren't that apparent anymore. It's still cute and I love Naoto and Nagatoro together, but I can hardly pay attention to that when Naoto is animated like Chargeman Ken.

Anyway, Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san will forever be my biggest guilty-pleasure comfort anime and I'm only a little ashamed.

AUs, theories and Wally x Readers galore, I doubt it's controversial to say that Wally is a Tumblr Sexyman in his own right. But how much of a Tumblr Sexyman is he really? That's what I intend to answer with this brand new poll, where Wally will go up against each of the Tumblr Sexyman from both the Twitter and Tumblr poll and see how this scrunkly little puppet can measure up. @sexymanotd-archive and their poll was the inspiration for this as well as @partycoffin themself for creating the character.
