The rhythmic croaking of frogs accompanied the princes' frantic pacing, his webbed feet splishing and splashing as he moved back and forth in the small pool. Stopping briefly, his eyes a lit with an idea and just as quickly shut tight as he shook said thought away, feeling his cheeks heat slightly in embarrassment.

“No, no, that won’t do either.”, he grumbled coming to plop down on a nearby rock.

Prince Sidon was starting to feel more troubled than he had the past few days combined. Resting into his large palms that had been propped up on his knees, the Zora thought back to the source of his current predicament. (Y,n), a Hylian male who he met sometime ago through Link and Zelda, had ever so quickly taken up root in Sidon’s heart. At first, he thought it had been due to simple admiration like with Link, but soon came to realize that it was something much more with the boy. Not only was (y,n) physically attractive to Sidon, but more importantly he had a very enchanting personality. Kind, funny, strong willed, were the simplest of definitions that came to Sidon’s mind if asked to describe his infatuation. It was of course much more than that, but for once, the Zora Prince was at a loss of vocabulary to depict just how much (y,n) gleamed in his eyes.

With a heavy sigh, Sidon looked to the hotfooted frog resting on a lilly pad beside him.

“Oh to be a whimsical frog, living life without the trouble of a heavy heart. Or perhaps you feel complex love just as well as I and others?”

The amphibian only stared back with two, slow blinking eyes, leaving Sidon wondering if the creature was even aware of its existence, but continued nonetheless.

“It’s just. . .I’m so used to receiving such fondness from the girls around me, but never another guy. Hylia, I don’t think I’ve actually ever felt this way about someone before him!”, Sidon exasperated, throwing his arms up but his little audience didn’t even flinch, still sitting with blank stares.

“I’m usually so confident, even in the face of adversity. Yet, whenever (y,n) is around, I feel like a youngling again about to swim up their first waterfall. He makes me feel a way I’ve never felt before. It’s like my heart is about to jump out of my chest! And while it is most thrilling it is also somehow so terrifying. However, I some how feel a deep sorrow or emptiness whenever he leaves. Whether it’s just the room or the domain all together.”

The little frog before the deeply fallen Zora, blinked one eye, and then the other, before shooting out its tongue to moisten one of them. Shaking his head slightly bewilder from such a weird action, Sidon released yet another sigh before turning to look down at his feet, watching the gentle ripples of water around his ankles.

“I really mean it when I say I’ve not felt this way before for anyone. (Y,n) is wonderful, beautiful, handsome, charismatic, you name it. Though I doubt you could come up with any words to encapsulate how truly magnificent he is of a person. If only it were easier to tell him how very fond I am of him. Just walk up to him and say. . .”

Sidon’s expression turned determinate, a frustration at his own lack of courage to confess his emotions to his closest friend bubbling up with in. Standing up quickly, the Prince looked straight down towards the little frog, who still blankly peered back and with a ferocity to his tone, he loudly professed.

“I love you!”

A silence befell around Sidon, the only sound being the tranquil waters around him and other melodies' of nature. Then, out of no where, a firm cough, one used to get the attention of another, and in absolute horror, Sidon turned around so fast he could have given himself whiplash.

“(Y-y,n)!!”

Said Hylian stood there, his cheeks flushed a handsome hue of scarlet, as his gaze followed the quickly retreating frog from beside the large Zora.

“You know, I’d be pretty jealous right now, except. . .”, (y,n) peered back to catch the panicked gaze of Sidon. “I doubt you were confessing to the frog."

Despite his racing heart, the cheeky grin adorning (y,n) face, had Sidon release a light laugh.

“How long have you been there?”, he cautiously asked, feeling his own cheeks alight like his adorations.

“Long enough to know it’s okay for me to do this.”

Sidon confused by (y,n) statement did not have time to question, as the Hylian swiftly walked over to gently pull the large man down and plant a gentle kiss to his lips. The Prince could not believe what was happening, and it took him a quick second to register that all of this was real. That his deep, heartfelt emotions were being reciprocated by his closest of friends. The friend who made all of his charismatic bravado evaporate simply by entering the same room. As soon as it did all register however, Sidon was quick to return the kiss with just as much love if not more, kneeling down for ease of his new partner and holding him close as ever.

Perhaps, he should talk to frogs more often.

Doodle Dump: Misc. Edition

Time for misc. doodles~

Notes under the cut.

1: "Ikigusare Idols". Like many people, "Injection Girl" randomly appeared in my Youtube feed, and I was admittedly charmed by them. It's like they're from a bygone era, but they just put out another music video last month. Currently, my favorite song is "スーパーZ指定ガール". (Content warning for mass violence in the lyrics.)

2-4: "Clown Doll Redesign". So, since I've started doll customizing as a hobby, I tend to lurk on the Dolls and CustomDolls subreddits on the lookout for inspo and info. Not too long ago, someone posted asking for advice/critique on their doll ideas. So I sketched these (and some notes on the original design, which are not included here) as a response. In the end, I never did reply because I don't actually have a reddit account, and I thought it would be weird to make one solely to criticize someone, so I'm just posting them here.

My main critiques were that there wasn't a lot of contrast in their color choices and that the blue and red hair seemed random when the rest of the design was pink/green. So, my main goal was to increase the contrast between the pink and green, so the different patterns would stick out more and to unify the pallet a bit more. The skintones differ from the reference because the doll they said they were going to use was a G3 Frankie Stein, who has bluish skin and a prosthetic left leg, so I'm not really sure why their sketch uses the original green skin or why the silver leg is on the wrong side, but it is what it is.

The first 2 are straight pallet swaps, but the 3rd is based on a second design that the OP made. They originally asked for users to pick between the two. Most people said they preferred the blue and yellow design because it was more cohesive, but the OP replied that they really wanted to make the pink and green one work somehow, so that's why I focused on using that one as the base, but I still included a version with the alternate pallet and patterns.

5-8: "Music Junkie Soundwave". In a similar vein, there was another user on the subreddit that wanted opinions on a potential Transformers fashion doll line, citing a video that one of their friends made on the idea.

Now despite having a limited knowledge of Transformers, and I'm still pretty green to the fashion doll world, I wrote a whole-ass dissertation on the idea because magical girl/boy robot dolls are totally something I'd be into.

But, for a similar reason to the clown doll, I didn't want to make a reddit account just to critique someone (though I still have the original response in my drafts).

When I finished writing that response, I decided to sketch how I would go about the idea as it'd been proposed, and created this Soundwave doll idea. Admittedly, he's very inspired by Giacomo from Pokemon Scarlet/Violet (never played it, but I do like some of the character designs in it). I dunno if the overalls are a little dorky, but I couldn't think of another way to represent his chest-deck in a meaningful way.

9-10: "Kingsley and Mamuta". I tried to make some human? designs for them, but it's not going great. I really wanted Mamuta to still be monstrous, but designs like that aren't my strong-suit... Kingsley I'm just not satisfied with yet.

11: "OC Line-Up". Just a few OCs of mine. From left to right: Carol, The Prince Formerly Known As Frog, Shapeshifter, and Fizz.

12: "Rival". An idea for a rival to Kun3h0, ala Shadow the Hedgehog and Wario. I made another sketch recently that goes in a very different direction, but I kinda want to finish that so I haven't included it in this dump.

Any thoughts on The trio of Lily, Petunia and Sev's life in industrial cokeworth? Like right up until Lily and Sev's graduation from Hogwarts?

I have seen so many takes on Lily being a doormat in just taking the abuse from Petunia but... I don't know.

Well, they weren't exactly a trio from what little we see of them in the Prince's Tale. There are the sisters Lily and Petunia and their dynamic and then there are Lily and Severus and their dynamic. Severus and Petunia just seem to dislike each other.

Severus drops a branch on Petunia and clearly looks down on her calling her in his head: "just a muggle" as he almost slipped and said that to Lily. Petunia views Severus in contempt, she thinks of him as a freak and makes fun of his second-hand clothes and poor background:

Then a small rustling noise behind Harry made him turn: Petunia, hiding behind a tree, had lost her footing. “Tuney!” said Lily, surprise and welcome in her voice, but Snape had jumped to his feet.

Petunia was breathless, alarmed at being caught. Harry could see her struggling for something hurtful to say. “What is that you’re wearing, anyway?” she said, pointing at Snape’s chest. “Your mum’s blouse?” There was a crack. A branch over Petunia’s head had fallen. Lily screamed. The branch caught Petunia on the shoulder, and she staggered backward and burst into tears.

And Lily is kinda stuck between them calling out both of them when they're being mean. Lily is trying to play peacekeeper between Severus and Petunia and while she isn't as aggressive as Severus or Petunia, she's far from being a doormat. Lily loves both Severus and Petunia and wants the people closest to her to get along, but she doesn't allow herself to be treated badly. When Petunia really hurts her, Lily swings back with venom with something she knows would bother Petunia:

“—you think I want to be a—a freak?” Lily’s eyes filled with tears as Petunia succeeded in tugging her hand away. “I’m not a freak,” said Lily. “That’s a horrible thing to say.” “That’s where you’re going,” said Petunia with relish. [...] “You didn’t think it was such a freak’s school when you wrote to the headmaster and begged him to take you.” Petunia turned scarlet. “Beg? I didn’t beg!”

(DH, 565-566)

And she calls Severus out for his treatment of Petunia:

But Petunia was running away. Lily rounded on Snape. “Did you make that happen?” “No.” He looked both defiant and scared. “You did!” She was backing away from him. “You did! You hurt her!”

(DH, 564)

“I don’t want to talk to you,” she said in a constricted voice. “Why not?” “Tuney h-hates me. Because we saw that letter from Dumbledore.” “So what?” She threw him a look of deep dislike. “So she’s my sister!”

(DH, 566-567)

In the memories we see of the young Lily, Petunia, and Severus it's very clear Lily just wants everyone to get along. This doesn't seem to work for her.

I mentioned here how I think Severus stayed with the Evans family during the summer, like during the day, he went back home in the evening. This is how he probably had the chance to retrieve Petunia's letter to Dumbledore mentioned above. But again, they weren't a trio. They were two duos that Lily tried to marge into a trio but Severus and Petunia never got along.

Also, after Lily starts her first year, I think her relationship with Petunia gets much worse. The scene I quoted with Petunia calling her a freak in the train station is just the beginning. Petunia is clearly bitter and jealous even years later:

“Knew!” shrieked Aunt Petunia suddenly. “Knew! Of course we knew! How could you not be, my dratted sister being what she was? Oh, she got a letter just like that and disappeared off to that — that school — and came home every vacation with her pockets full of frog spawn, turning teacups into rats. I was the only one who saw her for what she was — a freak! But for my mother and father, oh no, it was Lily this and Lily that, they were proud of having a witch in the family!”

So, I think after Lily started Hogwarts her relationship with Petunia just soured. She still loved her sister, but the relationship was strained. I think during these vacations after 1st year but before 5th year, Lily actually spent more time with Severus than Petunia, Petunia was never really part of it.

Lily tends to leave situations she doesn't like, she doesn't stick around to hang out with people who upset her — she cuts them out of her life like she did with Snape after SWM.

With Petunia, it was different. She was her older sister, whom she loved, and Petunia loved Lily too. I think a lot of her initial antagonism of Snape and telling Lily she shouldn't do magic before they knew what it was comes from a protective place. Petunia is the older sister and she is protecting Lily in the way she knows how. But then she becomes jealous and bitter over all the attention Lily gets, all the wonders of magic she could never have...

As I mentioned, I think Lily gave Petunia more chances than she gave Snape after SWM. I think Lily kept trying to reach out to fail every time before she gave up. It doesn't make her a doormat, it makes her someone who cares about her sister. But even then, at some point, she probably didn't make as much effort as before and drew back as that seems to be how Lily handles these things.

We know Lily and James were present at Petunia and Vernon's wedding, so it seems Lily never fully gave up on her sister. The same can't be said for Petunia who refused to attend James and Lily's wedding. Lily was noted as upset over Petunia not wanting her as a bridesmaid. So, even after Hogwarts Lily still made an effort to have a relationship with Petunia, but Petunia didn't let her. Again, it's not that Lily's a doormat, she just cares and is trying to reach out to her sister whom she used to love as a kid and doesn't want to lose. I think that's completely reasonable behavior, and it's clear from what we see of them as kids and from how Pottermore words their interactions in the wedding:

The evening ended with Vernon and Petunia storming out of the restaurant, while Lily burst into tears and James (a little ashamed of himself) promised to make things up with Vernon at the earliest opportunity. This never happened. Petunia did not want Lily as a bridesmaid, because she was tired of being overshadowed; Lily was hurt.

That Lily never just "took abuse", she made sure her displeasure was known, but she loved her sister and wanted to get along with her, and for Petunia to get along with the other important people in her life, whether that be Severus when younger or James when she was older.

I am very interested in Russian fairytales and movies, do you have any recomendation of a russian movie with theme similar to Beauty and the Beast? Or any good russian fairytale movie that you'd reccomend. I can't be realistic like RAIUNO Bella y la Bestia or Fantasy. I like fantasy as well ^-^. Thanks in advance!

Beauty and the Beast plot in Russia is known by Sergey Timofeyevich Aksakov's tale The Scarlet Flower (published in 1858). The story is recognizable - a merchant goes far from home and asks his three daughters what gifts they want, the youngest one, Nasten'ka, asks for a scarlet flower. Her father finds it in a garden of a mysterious beast who turns out to be a cursed prince. In 1952 the tale was made into an animated film (here English subtitles are available) - highly recommend watching. Btw, in Italian version the cursed prince is voiced by Massimo Wertmüller (Maurice Dubois in La Bella e La Bestia). Here are some of my favorite fairy tale films/cartoons: Sadko (1952) - based on a Russian bylina (epic tale); Morozko (1964); The Frog Princess (1954) - cartoon; The Tale of the Dead Tsarevna and of the Seven Bogatyrs (1951) - cartoon based on 1833 poem by Aleksandr Pushkin. A romance film "I am Dragon" (2015) also has Beauty and the Beast plot and a fairy tale-like feeling. It's beautifully made and worth watching.

Fairy Tale February: Week 2 Book Recs

Cinder - Marissa Meyer

A sci-fi Cinderella story in which Cinderella is a cyborg mechanic trying to help her prince deal with a devastating, incurable plague and the looming threat of a powerful and ruthless queen. Fantastic writing, fantastic world-building! The only thing I didn't like was the ending; I wish there had been some sort of resolution for at least one of the conflicts, instead of leaving everything loose. That said, I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

The Door in the Hedge - Robin McKinley

Four fairy tales: two retellings (The Princess and the Frog and The Twelve Dancing Princesses) and two originals (The Stolen Princess and The Hunting of the Hind). Robin McKinley writes such beautiful, rich, lyrical language that is so well suited for fairy tales. Her stories are mesmerizing!

Sherwood - Meagan Spooner

A retelling of Robin Hood in which the famed outlaw is actually Maid Marian in disguise! When Robin of Locksley dies fighting in the King's war, his betrothed, Marian, must deal with her grief and the uncertainty of her future. As she tries to protect her friends and do what is right for her people, she finds the freedom to be herself in a surprising way — by becoming someone else! I cannot express how much I loved this story! This is the only version of Robin Hood I care about now.

Wings of Fire OC options

There is a thing I have recently noticed that I don't think anyone has taken advantage of. Apparently, in the Sky Kingdom, Champion is an official title, of the ancient law of the Champion's Shield is anything to go by. So did Queen Ruby have a champion? Who?

I am going to personally present my own option, but I would be happy to see if anyone has other ideas.

A rainwing called Tree Frog. He is no ordinary rainwing though, at a very young age he was stolen by a mudwing scientist, who had found ancient scrolls about the secret rainwing venom, and wanted to study it. After years of torment Tree Frog killed his captor in a very graphic way that I would normally criticise for being too EdgeTM, but this is Wings of Fire, I can't top the Darkstalker thing. He then went on to become one of the 3 deadliest assassins in Pyhriia, and when Glory became Queen, he returned to the rainforest, hoping to earn some respect as the new rainwing queen's red right talon. (His whole thing is getting respect) However, he found Deathbringer instead, and he REALLY doesn't like Deathbringer. (Proof that he isn't a self insert) In his words, Deathbringer, who he believes only got the job due to dating Glory, is a 'pretentious, asinine, moronic, aggravating F***WING!' He later gets a job working for Queen Ruby after an incident with some Scarlet loyalists. He is very protective of Prince Cliff, and his prehensile tail means he is very good at ominously sitting on top of the throne and glaring at people.
