Meeting Dally at the Drive In

"You got a light?" You asked, glancing to your friend who was sat to your left at the drive-in.

“You know I don’t smoke,” your friend scrunched their nose at the thought. “Filthy habit.”

As you went to jump to your own defence, two arms reached around, circling you, one holding a lit match as the other shielded it from the night breeze. "Go for it, sweetheart," a rough, New Yorker's voice spoke into your ear.

You masked your momentary shock as you leant forward slightly, hand finding the cuff of his leather sleeve as you lit the cancer stick.

"Thanks," you turned to face him with a coy smile, voice dropping to one your friend recognised all too well as you turned back to the screen.

"Cute broad," the greaser spoke to his friends, not bothering to lower his voice. "Are you a real?" he leant forward to speak lowly in your ear.

You turned your head towards him, faces inches apart. "Honey, if you're dreaming of a broad like me you gotta raise your standards," you joked, taking a drag from your cigarette.

He smirked, eyes scanning you intently. "I've seen you down at the rodeos. You bronc ride,” he stated, leaning back in his seat, nodding at you impressed. “You're good.”

You turned to study him, scanning his face to try and figure out if you remembered him, smiling when it hit you. "You ride bulls don't you," you smiled, pointing at him. "I saw you in—"

"—El Paso," you finished at the same time, both grinning.

"Second place wasn't it?" You raised an eyebrow at him in question, pulling the cigarette to her lips as he nodded in response.

"Man, the guy who beat me was…something else."

Your face broke into a small grin. "He’s the best ain’t he! Ain’t no one better than him.”

“You his biggest fan or something?” He asked, lighting his own cancer stick, ignoring the slight pang of irritation that bubbled in his stomach as you smiled over his conqueror.

“Yeah and I’m is daughter too. Nice to meet ya’.”
