Im mentally chewing on the fact it's now Commander Scorch on his own working for Hemlock.
Like it'd be really fucked up if the reason he stayed and the others either didn't (as in they took a path similar to the books and got out altogether, they're some of the first clones eligible for retirement after all given their service records) is Sev and having to leave him behind. Or maybe the other's have since died. and he's the only one left to keep going. hooooo

Writing a fic where the main changes are that Obi-Wan and Cody and Luke all moved to Alderaan with Bail and Breha and Leia after the war, and Vader never destroyed Alderaan. So post-Empire, Alderaan opens the first temple the galaxy has had in over 25 years and five years later Luke and Leia are going over the semester’s teachers they have to put into rotation (with Cody and Ghost Ben living with them at the temple because Breha and Bail can’t stand the twins being alone (either sets of twins, they have two sets, one of which is Obi/Cody war babies who were born nearly a year before Luke and Leia, and they’re off with Uncle Rex and Auntie Soka to see the rest of aunties and uncles rn) when Luke suddenly starts getting sick. Like throwing up all the time sick.
Well, Leia and Ben take one look at him and go ‘oh he’s pregnant’ and so they make him take a pregnancy test and Luke is so sad about it that Leia giggles and takes one in commiseration too, only to come out of the bathroom with her own positive test and it’s. So. Funny.
Also like ten minutes later Din gets there to pick up Grogu for hometime (baby is coming with him to Nevarro for a month at least they deserve to still have their house maybe a couple months out of the year Grogu solidly lives there with Din and they visit the rest of the year because they can holocomm into classes okay Grogu deserves both a home and schooling lmao) when he asks why Luke looks like shit (Ben gave him Stewjoni pregnancy tea and it’s the first time he hasn’t been clutching his stomach praying to keep something down all day so that’s saying something) and Luke is all ‘I’m pregnant’ and Din’s FIRST fucking reaction is ‘it’s not mine’ shfkeiejordjdonr ‘okay???? I have a wife it’s hers’ ‘oh thank god’ ‘why did you feel the need to tell me it wasn’t yours????’ ‘I have had some weird interactions in the galaxy and it’s really weird cause I don’t have a sperm making part’ ‘…you’re trans??’ ‘Yes.’ ‘…so am I.’ ‘…huh. I sorta just assumed you were Stewjoni like that ghost that follows you around…’ ‘…my relation to him is through adoption.’ ‘Oh. Well. It’s not mine. Congratulations on the new tumor.’ ‘Thanks’
And through this interactions they are now the bestest BFFs ever.

QuinFox Week Part 5/7 - First / Previous / Next
Day 5: Healing + Battle Couple Track: 'Deep Water - Acoustic' - American Authors (Spotify / YouTube)
He woke up to the sound of a ship.
A low hum told him they were in hyperspace, that somehow he had gotten back. All he had were fleeting moments of clarity, starting with the jab of something sharp into his arm and the distinct voice of a clone swearing.
Fox.
He groaned trying to remember more, blinking blurry eyes and trying to sit up.  He stopped startled when a hand on his shoulder stilled him.
“Don’t, Quinlan, just- just rest okay?”
Quinlan breathed deeply, trying to relax at the knowledge that he was with Fox and Fox wasn’t panicking, so surely they must be safe wherever they were.
“Fox?”
Vision clearing further he picked out that familiar profile, lined with worry and beautiful gray hair spreading from his temples.
“Yes, I’m still here Quinlan.”
“Where’s here?”
“Back on the ship, en route to Coruscant using the pre-made flight path you set.” Fox was speaking like he had already said the answer before, eyes locked on the data pad in his hand. “I’ve already forwarded the information we received and updated the Council on your condition. You don’t need to contact them again until you reach the temple in a few days.”
Quinlan slowly lolled his head to the side, carefully taking in Fox’s tense posture as he sat at the edge of the bunk by Quinlan's hip. He was only in his undersuit, the special regulating fabric hugging his lean and lethal form. Quinlan had always found that interesting about Fox, how he seemed almost sleeker than other clones. Minor differences that just spoke of how he had tapered himself to what he was skilled in, and, combined with how he swore Fox could be a Jedi shadow in a different life, really just fit that namesake so well.
Before he could say anything in response though, Fox had continued on, answering unasked questions. “Yes, it’s our ship, I wasn’t leaving my helmet behind. Yes, I have your lightsaber. And yes, I brought you back. I carried you, you aren’t misremembering. Yes, I know you think my hands are pretty, and finally, yes, I am very much okay. Only minor injuries.”
Quinlan felt a blush rise to his cheeks just as much as the smile that began to lift his cheeks. “I guess I was saying those things out loud then huh?”
Fox’s head snapped up, eyes turning to the Jedi. Finding whatever he required to recognize Quinlan truly had awoken, his brilliant first statement was “Quinlan?”
“Did I add the part about wanting to kiss your scar then?”
Fox’s nose crinkled, stubborn, and as adorable as usual, in Quinlan’s opinion, especially when he caught how there was now the smallest hint of a blush on those cheeks.
“Yes, yes you did. You weren’t exactly of a sound mind though, so I won’t hold it against you if-!”
At this, he tossed the data pad on the counter across from them, then turned fully to Quinlan with one accusing finger wagging at the bedridden man.
“If you never, ever, do that to me again, got it? I don’t care that it wasn’t GAR business, that was too close, and I refuse to have you collapse like that again.”
“I did it because it's you.”
Fox blinked, stilling.
Quinlan took it as his chance to continue, head still a bit unfocused and heart somehow untethered. “Yes, your hands are pretty. Yes, I would kiss the scar. No, I’m not joking. Yes, I’m coherent, I have done this enough times to know. So yes, it's because it is you, and you are brilliant, can even handle my lightsaber better than most Jedi I have seen, so I trust you. And as for GAR business, I understand, because it wasn’t GAR business, but… well…”
At this he smiled, eyes a tad heavy again and knuckles weakly brushing out against Fox’s leg. “It’s me, and it’s you. And though it wasn’t GAR business, I have definitely made myself your business, just like you’re mine.”
Fox’s hand fell slowly, landing on the bed just shy of Quinlan's forearm. He looked like he was debating something, and Quinlan figured it was a moment of truth. If Fox would deem him unwell and they would drop whatever was happening, or if he would give in and push forward.
Fox’s own worn knuckles gave the softest brush to Quinlan’s arm.
“Yes, yes you are my business. You… you are my friend. So you should very well know by now I’d fight every droid the separatists have to get your ass out of trouble, you jerk. That I wasn’t going to let you make me go back to the Council alone. General Kenobi would be all sad too and Cody would be a blasted pain about it. So don’t ever go doing risky things without me. I’m not falling for the Jedi business line anymore, got it?”
Dark eyes locked on his, and despite his weariness, Quinlan was able to pick up the pain there and tried to prompt Fox further. “Don’t like me leaving you out of all the fun?”
“I don’t like hearing you say goodbye over a comm, Quinlan, damn it-“
Fox heaved a heavy breath, and for once Quinlan stayed silent. He let Fox work through what he needed and gave him the mercy of silence to make his decision on his next words.
“Who else is gonna actually challenge me in sabacc? Poke and prod at me every chance they get? Or even drag me out to do insane things, drink and bitch with me? Smuggle me in different and new foods, even if it’s late at night, just cause you're so excited for me to try it that even your tattoos look like they are smiling? Well, I’ll tell you what, it doesn’t matter who else, because none of them would be you.”
This time the back of Fox’s hand pressed against his forearm was clearly intentional, Fox’s gaze turning fully to Quinlan, who was feeling a dozen different things from within himself and in the Force surrounding Fox.
“They wouldn’t be you, and so it wouldn’t be the same. Because it’s you, Quinlan Vos. It’s all you, and I refuse to go on in this galaxy without… that, if I can help it.”
“And what is… that?”
Fox’s hand was flippant, gesturing in Quinlan’s general direction with a huff, and the blush was now very clearly there for a reason that Quinlan suspected he could finally piece together.
Softly, with a hint of their usual banter but enough heart to be clearly different, Quinlan spoke. “I think you’re gesturing to all of me.”
Eyes flickering up quickly, then away as Fox turned to try and hide the smile Quinlan could practically feel. “Yeah, all of… that.”
Quinlan snickered, quiet and childish. “Well, I think we make a great couple then.”
Before Fox’s mouth could finish whipping back around Quinlan cut in again. “Because I don’t want to face the galaxy without all of… that, either. Dream team, best battle couple, taking on the galaxy and all the idiots in it together.”
His eyes were slipping closed, but not fast enough to miss the rare soft gaze Fox gifted him and the gentlest murmur of “Yeah, a… great couple…” from those beautiful lips.
Quinlan fell back into the dark without a single ounce of fear.

Genuinely thinking about attempting to do a QuinObi day or week or something because I love them and there is simply not enough content about them (in my opinion) and they're so?? Good??? Never thought Star Wars would leave me (a mostly gen fic writer) in rare (ish) pair hell but, I suppose it had to happen sometime.

Me: the Jedi order did fail many of those who fell to the dark side, especially Bariss and Anakin, but acknowledging that is not justifying their eradication. The movies exist as a commentary on wider social failings which cause people to buy into fascist ideology. While individuals are responsible for their own actions, it is true that broader social issues lead to the rise and prominence of fascist ideology, and the Jedi order was acting as one example of such a situation - with George Lucas himself holding firm to the idea that Anakin (and by extension the others who fell during the Clone Wars) were victims. The Jedi being flawed makes them more interesting. The historical context of the time when the prequels adds even more context to the message they were intended to display - the Gulf War had ended in 1991 and the Iraq War began in 2003. These movies were a commentary on American military culture of the nineties and early 00s much like how the original trilogy was a commentary on imperialism during WW2 and the Vietnam war. The failures of the Jedi to provide proper mental health training (the lacking of which is especially prominent in the books and comics published in tandem with the prequel movies, particularly those books which were line-edited by George Lucas himself such as ROTS's novelization, and while some concepts of DBT are present in Jedi teachings they are not extensive or well communicated as they would be in proper therapy), their subconscious bias towards the core worlds, and their detachment from those they set out to help were all commentaries on how those who set our to help can lose focus as well as acting as a broader commentary on social attitudes during wars which lead to the broader social context from which fascist ideas spread. No single Jedi failed on a personal level, but rather the social systems within which the Jedi operated led to radicalization of some but not all Jedi youth. George Lucas's anti-imperial and anti-fascist beliefs are integral to understanding the message of these movies regarding radicalization.
Also me: none of this applies to Aayla though <3 she did nothing wrong <3

APLAP (Assigned Pathetic Lifeform at Padawanship)
New padawan Obi-Wan trying to figure out how the FUCK to make his master listen and not abandon him to go running off following "the will of the force" when it hits him. Qui-Gon is perfectly happy stopping and taking care of pathetic life forms, but not Obi-Wan. That's it. He's always been prepared, always been dutiful, strong, self-sufficient.
He's cracked the code. He needs to be more pathetic.
The next time he senses Qui-Gon's about to run off he coordinates a scene of utmost pathetic-ness, that is, he throws himself into the nearest fountain. He trudges up to his master sopping wet, water-logged robes swallowing him, with hair sticking to his face and containing bits of algae from the fountain. He mumbles out an apology for being clumsy before looking up at Qui-Gon with the biggest, most woeful eyes possible to ask if he happened to bring any spare robes (he didn't, Obi-Wan knows this because he is usually the one to pack spare robes for them both). His wet hair is dripping water into his eyes that's beginning to turn them an irritated red, and there's algae sliding down the side of his face, it really is masterful work.
"Oh...I'm sure I'll be able to find something by myself, it's okay Master, I know you had important work to do."
Qui-Gon visibly hesitates. Obi-Wan starts shivering. He turns to walk away. He's stopped by his Master's hand on his shoulder. His Master, who walks back with him, who gets clean clothes from their hosts, who has folded like wet flimsi and even explains his stupid, stupid plan before choosing to hotwire a hoverbike with a passenger seat! Oh, Obi-Wan really has cracked the code!
Afterwards, Obi-Wan stages an increasingly pitiful accident for himself every time his patented 'Qui-Gon Jinn Bullshit' detector goes off. Eventually, his Master stops leaving him behind at all, even giving him funny looks when he turns around and Obi-Wan isn’t next to him. It never fails to make Obi-Wan grin and run to catch up. Sure, his reputation as a perfect padawan is in tatters, alongside his dignity, but it’s a small price to pay for a place at his Master’s side, for him to remember there’s a place for Obi-Wan there.
When the ray shields come up on Naboo, Qui-Gon doesn't charge ahead and leave his padawan behind, he hasn't for years. He waits for Obi-Wan because it feels wrong to do otherwise, his padawan belongs at his side.
Much, much later, when Obi-Wan is drinking to the end of the war with friends, Commander Cress will ask him how he kept General Jinn from running off for entire decade. Obi-Wan laughs, informs him, and resolutely ignores the scene Quinlan is making as the man cackles and pulls up a book to shove at them both, titled Classical Conditioning 101: A guide to subtle psychological manipulation.

I wholeheartedly believe Asaj Ventress would have been able to kill Darth Vader. She's much more experienced in the dark side than he is I think she'd be much better at countering his force-based attacks. Plus she fought him in the clone wars, she knows how to deal with his fighting style, and I know full well she would BULLY HIM SO MUCH WHILE FIGHTING HIM AND IT WOULD THROW HIM OFF

I love how you draw quinlan. I fully support him running around and gossiping about the shenanigans he and obi wan got up to in their youth. Fully in the quinlan yelling at obi wan "YOU USED TO BE FUN BEFORE YOU GOT A PADAWAN" before leaning over to baby/adult Anakin "I don't actually blame you, I just like watching him get defensive about you when his usual setting is whining about whatever insane thing you've done. I like your style kid. Whereas Anakin is just looking up at him with Steven Universe star eyes.
It's like when your uncle comes over and starts spilling the tea about all the crazy thing he and your uptight mom got up to...that's the vibe I'm going for here.
his wild youth stopped thanks to a healthy mix of trauma and getting a padawan equivalent of a dumpster on fire <3

Honestly I really love how the clone wars fanfom just has all these intricate headcanons and fanon lore that has very little to none basis in canon. I love that shit. It's difficult to navigate at first but once you get into it it's so much fun.
What can I say? I'm a clown, I fit right into the circus.
Gimme blyla where bly is head over heels with his general but so bad at hiding it.
Gimme codywan who are the total opposite where obi-wan has the obvious crush but only when you catch his glances.
Gimme silver fox Fox who falls for Bail & Breha Organa. (I know Quinlan is most popular but I personally like the Organas better. My man needs stable people. )
Also Fox gets to shoot Palpatine, as a treat.
Gimme the wolf pack and dad Plo. And mom Shaak Ti with her cadets.
(And a few of my own headcanons)
Gimme the 501st and 212th who just adopt Ahsoka (and Cal) as their little siblings. (Cody adopts Cal as his own kid. He saw 9 year old Cal, impossibly small, and just adopted him on the spot.,)
Gimme a running joke among clones that the best place to look for missing padawan commanders is the vents.
Gimme badass Naboo handmaidens who absolutely kick ass and defend the padawans, Jedi, clones, and Senators Amidala and Organa with absolute ferocity.
Gimme Rex who falls for one of the handmaidens (Dormé) after seeing her decapitate multiple droids to protect Cal and Ahsoka.
Gimme a world where the clones gain freedom and get to live with the people they love.

The earlier Grue post has reminded me of an observation I had a while ago but never got around to hammering out- basically no superheroes actually featured in a parahumans story maintain a secret identity in the classic bifurcated sense. There's anonymity, sure, and as seen in the Dauntless interlude there are cover stories that their neighbors hear about their day job, but with the exception of pointed edge cases like Alexandria and Brandish, the professionalization of heroism is near total. None of these people are juggling a day job. Examples of the classic dual identity situation are actually slightly more common among the villains- Purity has a day job as an interior decorator, and Kaiser and Coil are in charge of their respective companies- but of course all of those are kinda "set-your-own-hours" kinds of situations. Kaiser's got people and Coil's literally got a power custom made to grease the wheels on two-timing in that way. The majority are full-time gangsters or mercenaries. Taylor's pre-Leviathan juggling of school and supervillainy is actually the main example of anyone trying to do it and the course that ultimately takes is instructional as to why she's the only one. Taylor mentions that people joke about her iterant teacher Mr. Quinlan secretly being a cape, but a lot of the book is spent quietly putting the torch to the idea that that kind of balance is tenable. Like at a minimum people would notice that you're running off all the time, there's a whole shell-game played with pulling random kids out of class at Arcadia to obfuscate which ones are actually the superheroes.

do you have any favorite fic recs that are fox/coruscant guard centered? there are a couple i've found that are really good but a lot of the fox tag is him in a more minor role with the focus on like cody or rex or jedi etc
Yeah i have a few! Here are some that i keep rereading - I'm putting them under the cut!
Politicians In My Eyes by jaigeye
Fox looks down at his armor, awash with blood. There are no identifying marks on him anymore. He's as red as Coruscant
CHTHONIC by catboydogma
Not even two days later, Fox revised his opinion. This wasn’t a disaster. This was a Grade-A, first order, fresh off the hot plate fuckfest. Fox’s day had gone something like this: lay in bed. Get up. Knock back some of the sludge in the mess masquerading as caf. Go through forms. Fill out forms. Bust open a closet in which the Senators for Uyter and Kinyen had both managed to get “stuck” in. Go through more forms. Fill out more forms. Get called up to the Senate dome to tell a Senator that no, the Guard did not address noise complaints. Find that the stack of datapads on his desk had somehow tripled over the last two hours. Despair at the state of his inbox. Etcetera, etcetera. And then.
dead dog (bye-bye baby blue) by batchmates
The way it happens is simple: at some point during your service in the Guard, you’ll lose time. The thing wiping the Guards’ memories gets sloppy and Fox remembers the order not to let Fives leave the surface alive. It changes everything and nothing at all.
Life During Wartime by chermit
Commander Fox has a lot on his plate: managing his Corries, filling out piles of forms, dealing with obnoxious Senators, and not thinking about the way he keeps waking up covered in other people's blood. All that considered, he really doesn't have time to deal with being investigated by the Captain of the 501st and the Head of the Jedi Order for two separate murders he (probably) didn't (want to) commit. But Fox is a soldier, and good soldiers follow orders, so when does he ever get what he wants?
Commander Fox's Guide to Touring Coruscant by kakashikrazy256
The painkiller he had been giving just half an hour prior is still working fine, leaving him relatively...alright. Nothing hurts particularly bad, but there’s a fuzziness layered over everything, making it hard to think too hard on anything beyond the first thoughts running through his head. Go inside. Find the rest. Sit down. Drink. Don’t say anything stupid. Don’t get caught. And...and just be there to properly enjoy the company of his brothers. Don’t forget these memories. / Fox gets injured but decides to keep it secret for the sake of his batchmates. For the prompt 'is that a bloodstain?!'
their days are darker by always_a_slut_for_hc
After the death of ARC Trooper Fives, an altercation at 79's leads Wolffe to spend his leave snooping around the Coruscant Guard. Fox assumes he'll drop it and leave the Corries to their fate; it's what everyone else has done. He is very, very wrong.
The Last Reason by meerlicht
Cody has a scar now, and it’s the only thing that differentiates him from Fox appearance-wise. For one, they both have the same circles under their eyes. Fox assumes that’s what comes with being a Commander. Their hands are the same, too, damaged and bruised at all times. But the biggest difference Fox sees when he looks at Cody isn’t the scar. It’s the rage. Cody doesn’t wear that same rage. Fox’s hands ache with the need to punch something.   Or: Fox dealing with Senators, little brothers, the terrifying ordeal of asking for help and a menace called Quinlan Vos.
