do you have any particular headcanon about elrond's cloak? it's so worn there are holes in it so obviously it has history and significance and I hope we'll get to know it in the show. and that pin - is it supposed to look like feanor's star?? I'm not sure how to feel about it if it is. I mean I get that elrond's fond of his kidnapper dads but still. or maybe it's earendil? like on that tapestry in lindon? I like that option better:)

sorry it took me so long to get to this one! I assume we're talking about the teal/blue cloak which I have a lot of thoughts about. Thank you for giving me an excuse to ramble.

The production have all been very clear that they've hidden allusions to Elrond's heritage pretty much everywhere in his costuming, so I've spent a lot of time picking it apart and thinking about it. As far as his blue cloak goes I've seen the headcannon that it's either originally from numenor or possibly even used to belong to Elros, and while I like that idea for the Feels(tm) I don't think it holds up due to the fact that in this scene below, it seems to be a shared item among Gil-Galad's entourage.

The Cloak:

the cloaks the others are wearing aren't an exact match and seem significantly newer, so it's not guaranteed they're related (and may just be there for the scene's color palette), but considering how much work this show has put into the costuming across the board I don't think its insignificant that the fabric seems to be the exact same. Elrond kind of seems to almost be wearing his inside-out though? Anyway this leads me to think that it may simply be a signal of a specific function in Gil-Galad's court. I think these women may be pursuivants, which is the court position directly under herald. The position has a similar set of duties (cataloguing genealogies & lore, running diplomatic messages, issuing warrents, attending personally to the king, etc. etc.) but they just aren't as highly ranked.

That isn't a particularly exciting answer but it does offer an interesting clue as to how long Elrond has been a member of Gil-Galad's court/how old he might be. This hasn't been specifically mentioned yet but considering his "work cloak" seems old and worn we can infer he isn't brand new to his position of herald (further supported by how familiar he is with Gil-Galad/confident in asking for favors. They seem to know each other very well on a personal level and have rapport, even if Gil is being a cranky this season).

Being a kidnap fam enthusiast there is a lot of fun to be had with the fact that there is a giant Feanorian star on the back, which I personally like to imagine is a jab at everyone who might have qualms about Elrond's background. A big ol: "deal with it! I was kidnapped and fostered by Feanorians and NO that does not make me a traitor but also they are part of me & raised me & I don't hate them sorryyyy. However I am in fact very loyal to the king thank you very much and have no kinslaying urges" -- and also an interesting distancer from Earendil. HOWEVER the cirth on the cloak seems to read "Earendillion" so...

(which again, leads to fun headcannons about how much of this specific clothing item has the potential to be Elrond going 'yeah, I have a very messy and mixed background and I accept all parts of myself. deal with it' ... but that may just be wishful thinking on my part).

Everyone's been pretty up in arms about the usage of "Feanorian" stars across the costuming, but I've been examining Elvish heraldry recently and to be quite honest I don't think it's a Feanorian star specifically. It does look UNCANNILY like what all of us, as a fandom, have collectively decided Feanorian heraldry looks like, but despite what collective Silm fanon would have us believe, Feanor doesn't have a monopoly on the usage of eight pointed stars, and actually Feanor's heraldry looks like this:

sure, it's an eight pointed lozenge technically, but it looks nothing like the symbol the show is using -- and again, eight pointed stars are everywhere among the ruling noldorin houses because in Tolkien's heraldry 6-8 pointed stars simply signify royalty.

I wondered if maybe it's Earendil's sigil all over everywhere, but Earendil has a six pointed star, not an eight pointed star. So that rules out Earendil's heraldry.

Upon further digging the symbol the show's been using nearly universally looks a LOT more like Finarfin's sigil:

Which I find especially interesting considering Elrond wears it and Elros seems to have adopted it EVERYWHERE. Elros and Elrond are descended from the line of Fingolfin (via Turgon on Earendil's side), not Feanor or Finarfin, however the show has made a pretty big deal about their showcanon (headcannon????) of just how close Elrond and Galadriel are and how maternal she is toward him (to the point of possibly even raising him and Elros for a portion of their childhood depending on where you interpret the "beach event" to have happened in the timeline) so I'm wondering if this perhaps is another way to signal just how deep that affection and loyalty runs. That seems most likely to me.

The Pin:

The pin is another puzzle as it didn't seem to match with any of the major shapes. The four-point is unusual. Again, upon further digging, the only heraldry that uses a four pointed star with that really long tail is Gil-Galad's.

So my guess is that the cloak designates that he's in service to Gil-Galad as a member of the heraldric "division" for lack of a better term, and the pin is a sign of status of being in direct service to Gil-Galad as chief herald-at-arms.

Sorry if you've already answered this or if its rude, but is there any particular reason you havent updated skeleton sisters and the architect?

Life stuff, honestly. I’ve got health problems and most of the fall was kind of consumed by a ton of medical junk, and then months of me trying to force my way into being no-longer-almost-malnourished. It lead to me being sick a lot, and/or exhausted. Thankfully, I had at least a little success after months of… bad stuff and kinda desperately trying a lot of different things. I can eat some more stuff now, which is allowing be to apply to a vocational school and get trained in work I’m interested in so I can actually, y’know, make a living! It’s exciting and exhausting, but after the last half year I’m… much, much happier to be on the other side of it, and admittedly a little proud and a lot grateful (especially to my bro, he’s helped me more than I can express) that I managed this much.

That said, it really does just come down to ‘life stuff’, since there’s more beyond that. I just don’t publicly talk about it a lot, and in my ‘free time’ (I bust my ass trying to do commissions to help make ends meet & save up for the program I’m trying to get into), I do my best. Since my last update, that’s been more art and interacting/expanding on the Lilytale crew via asks and smaller posts. It doesn’t mean I’m not going to continue it (the next chapter’s already partly written, and I went back and edited the outline a bunch to make things even more fun/interesting), just that… well, life’s rough sometimes, and as much as it really bums me out, the time I had just wasn’t able to be applied to writing my usual 7k-14k updates.

But seriously, major thanks to anyone who has left comments on the fic/asks/art about the Lilytale crew. I can’t begin to explain what it means to me.

Even if I don’t reply to comments on the fic always, I go back and read them and… it’s a hell of a reminder that this story is something people care about and enjoy and… well. I would’ve stopped writing longer stories long ago if not for the fact that there are people out there that say that they like my work and interact positively with me/my work.

That said… please do keep that in mind for the next time you consider asking a question like thisto another creator whose work you follow!

I… understand where you’re coming from, and other people who ask anything along the lines of ‘update when??’. I understand - and so do many creators - that it’s a form of ‘I want to see more because I enjoy this!!’

And. Remember that fanwork is a work of passion that is borne of the creator’s free time applied to something that they get no money or other ‘I can live off this’ sort of reward. The only thing we ‘get’ is, ideally, the shared excitement of other fans. Saying that you enjoy a person’s work goes so, so much farther than ‘when/why haven’t u updated’, y’know? The former feels like our time and work is appreciated, while the latter feels like… a demand, a discounting of what we pour into it, the time and work it takes to craft a story (or piece of art, etc).

I’m not mad, just - I wanted to take the time to explain that, to encourage you to think about rephrasing it the next time you interact with the creator behind a fanwork that hasn’t updated in a while. Life happens, and trust me- the best fuel and inspiration is hearing that someone liked what we did - not being questioned as to why we might not have updated in a while.

Trust me… why we haven’t updated weighs a thousand times heavier on the creator than it does on even the most eager of fans.

Bucky Barnes x Autistic daughter reader

Request: My special interests are frogs, can you maybe write a fic where Bucky and his daughter go to a zoo to see the frogs because she has been really stressed?

Note: Not every autistic person experiences autism the same. I'm autistic and I am writing from my perspective of how I personally experience autism, but not everyone feels the same as me or has the same perspective as I do.

I put my head in my hands and kicked my heels against the floor in frustration. None of my school work is making any sense, and I'm already behind on multiple assignments as well. I know that I could ask Bucky for help, but he's so busy that I feel bad asking him. He looks so tired and worn out by the time he gets home, and he doesn't deserve to spend his time helping me with school work, he should just be able to relax.

However, Bucky has taken note of how stressed I've been lately. He's noticed how I'm in my room more than usual, that I won't eat anything other than yogurt and energy bars since those are my two safe foods at the moment, and how I just seem so overwhelmed all the time. So, he decided to do something about it.

I jump when I hear a knock on my bedroom door, but once I get over the initial shock I tell them to come in, knowing it's Bucky. He walks in with a soft smile on his face, but his eyes are darting around my room, looking for any signs of what has been stressing me out so much. Of course, his eyes land on my table with my school work spread out all over it, and it all makes sense.

He sits on the end of my bed and I stay in my chair at my desk. I pull my knees up to my chest and face him, curling in on myself to make myself feel safer. Not necessarily from Bucky, he always makes me feel safe, but more so just from the world.

"So, I've noticed how stressed you've been recently, and I just wanted to check in? I'm sorry I didn't do it sooner." His tone is soft and genuine. I bite my lip and try to think of what to say. "It's just school... but it's fine! I'll be fine." I frantically add on at the end, not wanting to worry him.

He sees through it of course, and gives me a sympathetic smile. "You don't have to be okay. If something is bothering you, I want you to be able to tell me, yeah?" I nod, but mostly just to satisfy him. Again though, he sees through it.

A small smile creeps onto his face, making me look at him curiously. "Why don't you take a break for a little bit? I know exactly where we can go for the day." I think about it for a moment. I have a lot to do and none of it is even making any sense, but a break does sound really nice. But I also have no clue where we're going, sometimes going places only makes me more stressed.

But I know Bucky wouldn't purposefully bring me somewhere he knows I don't handle very well. So it has to be somewhere I'll like.. right? So, I eventually nod my head, breaking out into a smile as well.

A bright, wide smile forms on my face as Bucky pulls into the parking lot and I can finally see where he is taking me. I bounce in my seat in excitement, my eyes scrunching shut, stimming happily. Bucky smiles when he sees my reaction, he knew I would love it, but he was still a bit nervous.

When we get out of the car I hold onto his arm and practically bounce from happiness while I walk. The large sign comes into view, and I get even more excited as I see the words "Zoo".

I love frogs, they have been a special interest of mine for a while now. Bucky knows this and has always appreciated my special interest. He lets me rave on and on about everything I know about frogs, even if he doesn't really understand. Whenever he sees something related to frogs he always shows me, or if it's at a store he buys it for me.

So, I knew the reason he brought me here was because of the frog exhibit. As we wait in line for tickets and entry, I sway side to side on my feet while clutching onto his arm tightly. Bucky asks leading questions about frogs, since he knows it'll lead to me infodumping.

I've always been made to feel bad for my special interests and talking about them, like I'm too annoying and a burden. And even when I feel safe with someone, it can be hard to completely let go of that nagging thought in the back of my mind that I'm being too annoying. Bucky knows how important it can be to infodump, and he also absolutely loves how entrapped I get while talking about my special interests. So, he asks leading questions to get me to start talking, he doesn't want me to feel bad or annoying for infodumping, he wants the opposite.

"Which frog are you looking forward to seeing the most?" Bucky asks happily. I reply after taking a moment to think, but that one answer quickly turns into much more. It leads me to my other favorites, debating which one deserves to be higher on the list, which leads into their capabilities in the wild and all of that.

Before we knew it we were at the front of the stand and bought out tickets. As soon as we were inside we went immediately to the frogs. We both have never been to this particular zoo, so it took a while to find our way, but eventually we got there. But only after getting distracted by the adorable otters on the way.

As we stepped into the exhibit my eyes went wide and I looked around. I wanted to just see every single frog at one time because I didn't even know where to start. While my eyes were transfixed on all of the frogs, Bucky's however were on me. His heart warmed seeing me finally get a break from all of my earlier stress, and he loves seeing daughter so happy and content.

He follows as I pull him behind me to the first tank, deciding to just go around in order. "Can you tell me about this one?" Bucky asks, looking at the frog. I nod with a smile, bouncing on my toes happily next to him.

The whole rest of the exhibit went like that, me telling Bucky everything I know about each frog we see. He actually gets really interested in my words, asking more specific questions because he's genuinely curious.

Although frogs aren't necessarily something he is interested in, he still had a great time. It made his day seeing me finally be myself and happy. He didn't even really care much about the zoo part, he mostly appreciated getting to see his daughter happy.

 Where have you been all his life?

To say that Chuuya would simply be attracted to you because of your height sounds shallow, so let me phrase it this way; Chuuya is so used to having look up to people since many are taller than him all his life, both men and women, so it kind of does something different to his psyche when he sees you, being shorter than him.

Not to sound stereotypical but it's a given instinct that when you see someone shorter than you, you get the impression that they're cute and it triggers your protective instinct, right? This is what Chuuya feels about you. And since this sensation is new to him, he cherishes it.

Also, since Chuuya leans more towards masculinity, in your relationship with him, you're making him feel more manly. To speak a bit bluntly and in a nutshell, you boost his ego.

You make him feel even more confident and comfortable with himself. It's not that he wasn't confident before he dates you, you're just making him bolder with more sense of control and masculinity, making him feel validated. More dominant and more alpha.

But what does all of that mean, you ask? Here's the highlight of this post; Chuuya will pamper you as your prince charming while simultaneously being your playmate. Perfectly balanced.

Why? Because seeing you being petite, smaller than him, makes you appear as someone he should protect, but the romance doesn't replace the fun. When it comes to being Chuuya's darling, things never get overly cheesy. Yes he can be romantic (he is), but he's not the type to use sweet talks 24/7. He uses his "rough" ways to communicate his romanticism, one of them being your equal, hence the "playmate" dynamic.

Chuuya tells himself that you're his cute, little darling. He will say this to you straightforwardly except the "cute" part. If he casually and accidentally calls you cute from a slip of his tongue, you can definitely tease him back to get even.

He can be the big spoon and the "top" of your relationship, but he will be a switch if he's feeling sluggish. Being the "lead" sometimes makes him need a break, not from you, but from the energy it takes. Chuuya is an emotional guy and can be downright hysterical, and that takes energy, so he will turn to you for solace when he's worn out. To achieve that, Chuuya will utilize your height to bury his face into your neck or lean his forehead on your shoulder when work wears him down.

"Stay like this for a while," His voice blurs into mutters with his face on your shoulder. "Just three minutes."

Pat his head. Do it.

If you're the one feeling low, just put your head against his chest when you're both standing. Chuuya will be confused at first, but he'll silently ruffle your hair with your forehead still against his chest. It will be calming, I promise you.

Whether you're Port Mafia or a regular civilian (I find it easier for him to date someone from the PM though), you can count on Chuuya to be protective. He's already a protective guy by nature but when he sees you, his shorter darling, anywhere close to danger, that protective instinct doubles or even triples.

In fact, he wants you to rely on him. It's not that he wants you to be dependent—Chuuya just wants you to know that he always has your back. He's the combination of loyal and protective, so he wants to prove those qualities he takes pride in to you. Trust is a strong element for him, and by letting him know you count on him, you’re already securing his utmost loyalty and love.

One of the highlights of this post is his hat. You're shorter than him and it makes it easier for Chuuya to just plop his hat on your head on random occasions. No words, no thoughts, just putting his hat on you. It's the subconscious acts of love like this that makes him feel whole with you.

Kouyou will like you for colouring Chuuya's life. She'll make comments about how you both are fun to watch at, especially when you're both doing your silly dating antics, such as "My, my, energetic as always, aren't you both?"

Speaking of dating antics--Emotional maturity? We don't know her.

Doesn’t matter if you're only 2 cm or maybe 10 cm shorter than him. He will take any height advantage and have fun with it. A little too much, in fact.

Chuuya is not above using his ability to put objects in places he knows you can't reach but is close enough for you to struggle, just to watch you squirm. Confidence does things to this man, mischief being one of them. On the instances where you really can't reach up and it's not because of his tricks, something like this is bound to happen ;

"Huh, can't reach the top shelf, can ya? Don't worry, I've got you." He says, chest huffing with pride, before getting a ladder himself.

"...."

Mostly will lift you up to help since he wants to take the small chances to bond with you over simple moments. Short people solidarity. The height boost isn't much since short + short doesn't exactly equate to being tall, but hey, it's the thought and the comedic moments that count.

Speaking of comedic moments;

"Have you reached it yet?!" He asks loudly, craning his head from below you to see upwards. You're sitting on his shoulders and he's making sure he doesn't move around too much, or else you'll fall.

"Just a little bit more—!" You grunt, arm stretched. "Lift me up more, will you? Jump or something!"

"Do you want to fall? Forget it! Just reach higher!

"Maybe I can stand on your shoulders. Hold still--"

"Oi, this vest is 60,000 yen! And this is already the highest I'm lifting you! That's enough, I'll lower you down and just use my ability!"

"No! I'm already grazing it!"

And then you both will proceed to bicker in that weird, eye-catching position, for at least 2 more minutes. It will end if you either jump off him or he floats you down using his ability, and usually it's the latter.

[Sometimes the positions will switch (you lifting him up) but he's a solid 60 kg, it will be a challenge for your muscles and a good workout routine. Good luck getting him to agree to it though.]

[If that happens, chances are your legs will wobble just within seconds from lifting him. Good thing is it increases the humour and mischief in your relationship, downgrade is that it's too silly and stupid to look at to make it feel romantic]

Want to get back at his pranks? Here's a solution. Chuuya will vaporize if you use his clothes. He's taller than you, so let's say his shirt looks like a dress on you.

"W-What do you think you're wearing?!" Is what he shouts, but his flustered face says otherwise. [Bonus: for more critical hit, wear his choker(s). It does ‘things’ to him]

Yeah it's the little things like this that boost his confidence and optimism, and you don't mind him acting like the prince charming in an armour.

If anyone calls you (or even both of you) short, Chuuya will be pissed and defend you and himself since he assumes you also don't like being mocked for your height. He takes it upon himself to "fight" for you too. He has the "we're in this together" mentality.

And so do you. If any Port Mafia's enemies try to waver your confidence or Chuuya's by mocking your heights, it's going to be hell at that point.

If Dazai ever spots you and Chuuya together in public, he will say "Congratulations, Chuuya! You finally found someone shorter to date!" just when Chuuya mumbles "What's that shitty Dazai doing here?" under his breath.

Chuuya will try to kick his face while yelling "Huh?! What'd you just said about us!?"

Don't take what Dazai said personally, he did it to get on Chuuya's nerves, not yours. Instead, why don't you hold Chuuya back so he doesn't chase Dazai?

“Don’t you ever get bored arguing with him?!” You struggle to pull him back. You have to shout to outmatch his shouts.

Chuuya will be interested in height-related shenanigans with you, such as actually reading obviously fake advertisements that promises height growth and asking you if you're interested. He will only do this with you because he knows you won't make silly/berating comments about him. As I've said, trust is the secret ingredient in dating Chuuya.

"Hey, do you think this is real?" He shows you the poster he picked up. The dirt left by his sole on it is still there.

"Chuuya," You try really hard to stop sighing. "At this point, we have to stop lying to ourselves,"

But if the advertisement doesn't sound fake, let's say it utilises supposedly "effective acupuncture techniques", you will lessen the mature act and entertain him a bit.

In short, you and Chuuya will have an energetic and youthful relationship. It doesn't matter where you two are, be it in the cities or the ground zero of battle; if you two are there, people will see one hell of a lively, energetic, short duo.

Today we're going to look at what you need to hear. Gonna be honest, all the piles seem related. It could be that they all hold a message for one person, or they're continuations of the others? Or they could be messages for people in situations that are related to one another? I'm not sure, but there's some connection between all three tbh. Oof I just got REALLY warm. I'm not sure what that means, but I think some are you are furious at someone. Well, you're asked to release the negativity (Full Moon in Scorpio), and also the bottom of the deck of the Moonology cards was Bring Love Into the Situation. The song on currently is Are You on Your Way by Middle Class Rut, and I take this to mean...are you coming home? Like, to yourself. I think some of you have allowed others to influence who you are, losing sight of who you are. There's something coming, or maybe this has already happened, but it's good. Possibly an achievement? However, there are underlying issues within this or around you. I take this more as outside voices, that part about being influenced by others again. I think the Voices card is one thing to look at about this. From this, I get two things. The first being that you need to listen to your own voice, your own judgment. The second is that you should ignore any voices on the outside. By this I mean, like family or friends. I really get that some of you have family or friends around you that are giving you their advice, but that it's no good. The Picollus card talks about long-standing feuds (specifically family feuds) and the Alastor card talks about not being vengeful. So I think maybe there are some not-so-kind things that are being said, either about you or others and you're being asked to not listen to them.

But, with the 6 of wands, wheel of fortune and Flying without wings, I see that there's something you're about to achieve or have just done. The bottom of the deck for the tarot was the tower, so for some, this is sudden. Maybe a promotion? Or, graduation, so a culmination of things leading up to something. But, I'm seeing that this can only be good if you're careful with where you get advice from and how you act. I'm not saying to ignore all advice, but I think when you hear advice, you're aware of what's good for you/will work for you and what won't. With the eclipse card, I can see that there are some things that may be unknown to you right now, and maybe this tower card on the bottom is coming energy (or past, depending on where you are at). I was going to say that it feels like some of you are moving on from something, and maybe it's a breakup or a past failure, but now you're moving into better times like you're succeeding with something else. Moving on. But, I think there's a bit of fear here. For a few, there's resentment. I'm not saying you don't have the right to be resentful, but in the cards, there is a warning to be careful not to allow that to overtake you. The bottom of the Witches Oracle is Greet the Darkness, and this tells me that if you are feeling that resentment, you're being called to feel it. I don't think you can just ignore it, because it will eat away at you. However, you're being asked to feel it and then let it pass. So, again, kind of goes back to moving along, right? You also are being asked to find your voice and not use other's voices to dominate your thoughts/actions.

You know, it's not even a song that came on, but I was thinking about Harry Styles' song, Treat People with Kindness and I kind of am getting that message here? Like, I think overall, this is just a call to be good. Like, to discern what you hear, but also to be the best you can be. Do not to give in to the temptation of being a less than stellar person. I think it's a warning to be careful. Like, an ego thing?

I feel like there's something missing though? Like, I'm at the edge of what the overall message of this pile is, and they all seem to connect, but it's on the tip of my tongue and it won't come out? So, I wonder if there's also a need to speak up? We did get Voices. Also 7 of Cups can be about having too many choices that you're stuck trying to decide. It can also be about being stuck in the clouds. So, maybe there's a need to figure out what you want to say and say it? As concise as possible, but not too blunt? I had to go back and pull a couple more cards from some other decks (so, the Moonology cards are part of that). The other two cards I pulled from my Affirmators! deck and they were Joy and Friendliness. So!!! Yes, please treat people with kindness! But I also think this is kind of a treat people the way you'd want to be treated, so like, greeting meanness with a smile? Don't Take the Money came on, and I'm really noticing the line: "Buy back the secrets". This song is ultimately about not giving in to greed. Like, not choosing greed over love, and I think that's part of this message. I can see this resentment bubbling under the surface and I sound like a broken record by now, but? I think you're not really meant to allow it to bubble.

Also, I think you guys are my music group because I got SO many songs for you? I also was all ready to wrap this up, thinking "Well, there's that, I think I'm done." But again, I was still feeling like I was missing something and then a song called Something Left To Give by The Starting Line came on, so here I am pulling more cards. We got Page of Wands, The Emperor, and The Hierophant. But then...the bottom of the deck was The Tower again? So, first off. I think a lot of you are definitely ignoring something, like a lesson you're meant to be learning? And I think it has a lot to do with surrounding your ego and maybe reaching into the shadows. But I also think it has to do with holding grudges while also holding onto toxic things, such as thoughts or people? I think, with the Emperor and the Hierophant here, you have the ability to be kind while also upholding your boundaries, but I think this is less about how you are and more about how you need to be. And sometimes...that's about upholding boundaries with yourself, whether it be letting go of certain behaviors or thoughts, or making sure other people do not cross those boundaries. Another thing I'm getting is that there may be certain beliefs you hold about yourself or others, or even the world, that need to be changed. I get this "My way or the high-way" feeling from the Hierophant and the emperor, and I think that if you have this attitude, you're being asked to really rethink that. It's okay to not be right all the time, and it's also okay to make mistakes. It's also okay to change your mind. To find that what you once believe doesn't really hold up anymore. I just think it's SOMETHING to get the tower on the bottom of two different decks, and I think this is about well, I'm getting shipwreck imagery in my mind. Crashing those beliefs? Wrecking them? Burning them down and starting over. Saying to yourself: "Hey, I don't really need this anymore. It doesn't match who I am now and where I want to go. I can let this go now." And, this can apply to more than just beliefs. I am using the Daemon tarot and the bottom deck energy was brooms which has the same meaning as the Witches Oracle Brooms card: Cleaning. It can mean physical cleaning (and it IS spring. I know I need to clean lol), but it also can talk about purification. So, purging those beliefs that do not fit anymore and getting rid of what does not serve you. What is not working for you anymore? What isn't helping you be the best person you can be? It's not about quitting things cold turkey one morning. It's about slowly allowing those things to fall away. So I'm not saying you need to get up and both physically and metaphorically clean your life. I'm just saying, to start that process. Ya know? Getting a garbage bag ready and filling it as you go.

I really think there is something good happening for you but I think you need to keep yourself grounded in reality and to be the best you can be while this is happening. I also think you need to not allow others (or your own self) to get to you. I don't see anything in here saying you are a bad person, I just see that there's a reminder being made to be good and be the best you can be, which also includes making sure that what you have in your life is good for you. Nothing drastic has to happen (if you don't want that), but mindfulness is needed.

This group has a very specific message that comes out. It took a bit to get there, but I wanted to say that this is a specific situation. If you were called to it, then by all means carry on reading. However, if you find that you do not vibe with what this is saying, then this might not be your pile. However, I think there also might be a few bits here and there for some people, and not the whole message, so maybe try it out first.

First off, I get similar vibes to pile 1, but this pile seems more to be in a victim mentality. I'm not saying you don't have a right to feel that way, but I'm getting that there's a line and that you're either already past it, or you're near it. That line draws a boundary between feeling sorry for yourself and on the other side: feeling sorry for yourself that you play victim, never taking responsibility for yourself/actions. Get a defensive energy (I wouldn't be surprised if you were reading this and thinking that it may not be your pile because you're denying it? Hey, I do that all the time. I'm pretty guilty of this). I think a lot of you have had a tough time recently, or are still in the thick of it. I'm here to say that it will pass, but that you can't allow this to turn you bitter. Nor can you use this to take it out on other people. There's a strong message about making sure you don't do that. Also, not to manipulate others? I think there's a possibility of falling into this mentality that you're the victim and may be manipulating people into feeling sorry for you. I just get a weird manipulative vibe and I think maybe some of you can have the tendency of doing this, possibly even without being aware of it.

There's also a message of lightening up, allowing yourself to have fun. To stop focusing on the negative aspects of a situation, and find the humor in it. It may be something hard to do right now, but I think you'll find that maybe one day soon, you'll be able to do so.

Also, there's another side note about someone else? This can be a father figure, a boss/ceo figure? This could just be someone who embodies the King of Pentacles (he's the CEO type, has his shit together, is stable, more on the materialistic side of things, etc.). Whether this is you (could be!) or someone else you know/will know, I don't get bad vibes. I mean, I pulled the 4 of wands with that card, so I think it's kind of this stable energy whoever this is. However, there also is the Knight of Pentacles reversed, which can represent carelessness. The Full Moon in Gemini talks about being careful with one's words, like that whole "Less is more" idea when communicating. I think these two go together, and I think it just is someone who is a little too direct and blunt. I get work vibes tbh, so I think this could involve your workplace, so possibly a boss? Passing Notes talks about gossip/rumors, so I think this is like...A warning not to gossip or even to not believe everything you hear? I don't get any romance vibes but I think this could involve something that never took off? Oh, I was going to delete that, but I actually listened to what the song I was hearing was saying, Contagious by Boys Like Girls. This has sent me down a whole other path for another message lol

So, this might apply to some of you, but I think you may be involved with someone (or want to be?) who is the King of Pentacles, but they're kind of horrible at communication (or one of you is). I think they're more money-focused, and maybe they hear shit about you that has shaped their opinion about you (or vice-versa). But despite this, they like you. I think they don't quite know how to express themselves, and maybe you're feeling down about this because maybe you don't think they're into you? I still think this is work-related though. That, or this is someone who is just super focused on their work. But, I have 9 of cups and 6 of cups, so I think you're kind of what they're looking for and maybe they feel at home with you.

For some, you're being warned about this person. They can be manipulative/play the victim. For others, maybe they do that, but I think it's something being worked on. Either way, someone in this situation is having a lot of trouble expressing themselves. There is anxiety surrounding this situation. I get it on both sides. I got Ten of Pentacles, which talks about that happy family, but like. More-so, the material aspect, like needs being met. With the Knight and Page showing up, I think that if this is work-related, you're under them in terms of position? I get this message a lot actually, about a boss/employer relationship? Just crushes on unavailable men. Anyway, I think that whoever this is, they can't express their emotions. This could be because of someone else in the picture. There are a lot of court cards here, also, bottom of the deck for this is The Empress. So a mother, either there is or the mother of their kids if they have kids? Or someone who they see/saw as the mother of their future kids? Could be roles reversed, and that this is the father. Take whatever resonates doesn't have to be a woman and the king does not have to be a man. But, I think this burdens them. Like, they have a lot of responsibilities that rest on them, and they're unable to express what they want to express to you because they're "chained" to these feelings. You know, I almost get like...Less another relationship and more a social standard, or company issue because in both the Page of Hazards (pentacles) and the Empress, there are kids being chained to something (They ARE zombies but...interesting that two cards that have chains are pulled...). Even more interesting is that the kid in the page of hazards is chained to a mailbox with cobwebs, so I get communication issues with that. I think it's both hard to express their feelings because they're not someone who does so openly or easily. But also, they just cannot because of external circumstances. So, like If you came here because of some work/love situation...Then. There ya go...The feelings are there, but cannot be expressed. At least, not at this time. And maybe that's where that victim mentality comes in? Like, a "Why me?" or "Why can't it be easier?" Because I kind of relate to this pile, and I get how fucking annoying it is to hear "The feelings are there but can't be expressed". It hurts, I know.

But. Here I am to remind you that you got that Beauty card, right? I wasn't sure how it really factored into all of it, and was just going to use it as a reminder of your beauty, and I guess I am doing that now. But I'm also going to tell you something someone once told me: You deserve someone that will give you their time. By that, you deserve someone who feels for you and can openly express how they feel for you. I'm not saying this King of Pentacles person is a bad person, or that they're not for you, but it just seems like right now is not the time for this to work out. I don't see anything that says it won't work out, but on the other hand, I don't see anything that says it will. I think its just one of those things where you're going to have to be patient with. The song I ended your reading on is Space Travel by Yellowcard. It's about getting lost in someone and loosing who your are within this other person. Like, loosing your personality. I'm not sure where you are with this person, but I think this is reminding you to take care of yourself first. Whoever this person is, they have other things they need to take care of first, too. I also think they're putting themselves first. I don't want to say move on entirely, because that can be hard. It can seem impossible some days. I do want to say, however, that you need to make sure you're not waiting around on this person. There are so many other people in this world, and I find it impossible that you only find "it" (whatever "it" is that you found within this person) with this one person. I'm not sure why but all the piles had this weird "Spring cleaning" theme, about clearing what isn't working. But this pile seems to specifically be about love. So, I think if you're trying to move on from something/someone, this is a sign that things will be turning in your favor. Firstly, we pulled the emperor AND the empress. However, similar to how in Pile 2, where I felt the King of Pentacles in that pile was someone unable to express their emotions (its so odd that I got that, because I also got an emperor vibe but didn't pull it, but here it is in this pile?), I get that...this could be you? Because the New Moon in Libra suggests that someone is coming into your life that CAN express their emotions, but in one of the songs that came on, Headphones by WALK THE MOON, there's a line where he sings: "I wanna open my heart, but you won't open the door." Similarly, there's a part in Eyes are Red (Don't be Afraid) by Deep Sea Diver, where she sings "Don't be afraid". I kind of read into this song is about expressing one's feelings. But, we have the 4 of pentacles here, and it can be about hoarding. And in this sense, I'm getting...hoarding feelings? Like, keeping them in. You closed your heart and you're afraid to express yourself, but I think you're being asked to allow yourself to heal while being open about your feelings. I always get that "nurturing" vibe from that card, but I definitely am reading this as you nurturing yourself, but maybe this involves you keeping things inside? Nevertheless, we got a pair, the Empress and the Emperor, so I could also read this as counterparts. I'm reading them as mostly you but I also can see this as you and someone else. One interesting thing is that I see the guy on the 9 of wands following the King of Wands. Not sure if that makes you feel of anything, but I read 9 of wands as persistence. I don't really see too many action-oriented things, but I see that being social is kind of something that needs to happen? I do get a Fool vibe from this, though. Like, taking a leap/risk? I don't know what kind of a risk, but I can see that you're being called to action in some way. In Pile 2, one of the messages was this need to not allow a victim mentality to take over. I KNOWWW I know she's 14 (and I had a very annoying phase like this, I think I mentioned in a previous post, I GET IT) but they're HIS powers, and messing with (1) dealership will not really put a dent in sales overall because they can just move the cars to another sales lot, and it certainly wont change the industry anyway, it's more of a minor annoyance for (1) location. Also, usually people who work at car sales places work on commission, so if they dont make a sale, they don't have money to pay bills, or eat. sam baby if u wanna be an activist you need to like, actually look into these things. with as much money as her parents have, she could be doing a lot..more useful things for causes she cares about? it's frustrating to see someone with resources who doesn't know how to use them. but shes 14 so again. cannot be really upset :/

I know, he also agreed and walked into the portal. but. she made the choice to redo it SO quickly (even if it was because someone had to beat desiree) and danny, during their fight, brought up a lot of stuff sam's done in the past, meaning he was holding onto those memories and resentment was building. (I KEEP SAYING HE LOWKEY NEEDS THERAPY, BUT I THINK MOST EVERYONE IN THIS SHOW KINDA DOES) which...is a red flag? and then they didnt even GO to the party URGH I know she tried to make up for it, but it really felt like Sam fucked up and barely faced any consequences and got everything she wanted in the end. I KNOW it's a kids show obv they aren't going to go too in depth, and she undid the damage, kinda, but...I DUNNO how to articulate it but it rubbed me the wrong way.

I know they always have horrible side effects as most genie-granted wishes do, but...c'mon, I'd at least TRY to be like 'I wish no ghosts would hurt anyone in my town' or 'I wish vlad would lose his ghost powers forever no matter What and also forget about my mom' LIKE. I want to make my own perfume, that's so cool. even if his first attempt isn't good, he's pretty consistently shown to have an inventor/entrepreneur streak in the show, so like. I can see him inventing or making something (or several somethings) that make him $$$ when he grows up :) proud of my creative son

-I know the 'creepy abandoned hospital on the edge of town' is a joke and the creepy hospital trope is so Worn Out, but in my town we actually DO have a hospital like that! my dad was born in it, but its not in use and hasn't been for, like, 20 years! it needs to be torn down but I think the city doesn't wanna pay the money. the inside is horrible, spray painted and broken glass and shit everywhere. but there's still like, rusty equipment and fucking DOLLS all over the place. the cops drive by it pretty frequently to make sure no one is like, breaking in. (because of water damage, some of the areas really aren't safe. also, asbestos, but people still go in anyway) but also, some of my town was used in a filming for a stephen king show. So it's lowkey spooky all over. just a fun personal tidbit :) to lead into saying, any hospital abandoned for any period of time is NOT safe to quarantine these kids in JKSAHDKF like I KNOW it's a ghost trying to do this, but NONE of these parents are even like, 'well, why dont we keep them in the regular, working hospital'....YIKES. this hospital looks pretty accurate to the one in town. grungy and spooky.

(how did you DIE ALSO?? im always lowkey curious about that. we know desiree died at an old age, but her ghost form is young, probably mid-20s, so I wonder how that sort of thing works...its a more mental thing, isn't it?) but ghost team-ups are always cool to see, even if ember bailed after danny took her guitar. I guess she probably thinks youngblood can handle it (which, he's been owning danny this far in the ep, so...fair)

-tucker got that sponsorship from nasty burger for their radio!!! again, opportunistic money maker king, love to see it!!!

-danny taking control of the kids SO FAST. he makes a pretty great leader. no one is surprised, im pretty sure I said I think he's the most mature of the trio, once again, correct, because he's taken on so much responsibility already. all the teens suiting up in the jumpsuits to go save the adults and taking the ship over with a BLIMP. OKAY LETS GO. this feels like it should be a mid finale or straight up finale.

-...speaking of finales. why is ep 4-5 of s2 combined into a 50 minute episode? I havent even clicked play and im concerned. weird placement, like, this season JUST started and we're getting a two parter? okay...why are the episodes placed like this? why not put this at episode 10 or something, for a mid-season thing?

-this is also a cute dress. possibly my fav dress so far. can her parents give ME cute dresses, I'LL wear them.

-it turns out the castle fright knight was in is called pariah's keep and there's something worse than fright knight in there! lovely! fuck off vlad wtf are you doing <3 your hubris <3 is going to literally get you killed <3 'ring of rage' and 'crown of fire' are great names tho. ...vlad turning into a super polite guy when he was scared of mr. pariah was hilarious. and fright knight doing the same...I mean, it makes sense, he's a knight, he serves a king? happy to see fright knight again either way :) vlad telling him to call him tho, lmfao. you WISH HE WOULD. (I wish hed call me, too. 😔)

-so...jack being genuinely concerned about vlad...maddie really didn't tell him what happened at the cabin, did she. damn. if I was her id immediately come home and be like 'YOU WONT BELIEVE THIS SHITTTT THIS CREEPY GUY--' like, I feel like that stuff you need to tell your partner!!! I know she didnt want Jack to think she was an irresponsible parent putting danny in danger at that time, but STILLLL. maddie spilling boiling tea on him. get his ass. how is jack this oblivious to his wife's discomfort with vlad!! ughhh

-DANNY AND VALERIE BEING FRIENDS??? :D that was a cute moment. 'hey val <3' and 'if you like him like him, make a move, or someone else will ;)' at sam...damn!! I love her. valerie go for it girl!!! I hate how sam and tucker treat val also, like I GET IT YOURE PROTECTIVE AND DONT TRUST but if anything him befriending valerie will help when she finds out or he tells her like I feel like she'll be more understanding that they think! ALSO I feel like her reason for not liking ghosts is valid, like you haven't really explained the full story to her anyway! she doesn't seem to have any other friends after being booted from the a-listers so im like :( but seeing them kick butt together again was nice <3

-the ghosts all RUNNING FROM PARIAH DARK IS NOT GOOD, I thought he sent them to attack or something, but no. why doesn't someone just tell desiree 'hey i wish pariah dark would die' lol. once again I think she can solve every problem <3 but seeing all the enemies in one place, being civil and hiding together? love it.

-you just know danny's gonna have to clean up vlad's stupid mess. also, jack being willing to put on the ectoskeleton pants to help maddie, as soon as vlad heard it could kill him, he suggested jack do it instead of helping maddie himself? this is why jack got the girl, my man.

-ghost skeletons. how do you end up as a skeleton ghost in your afterlife instead of a humanoid like most the ones we've seen? lmao

-the ghosts just making new homes in various stores. I'd totally be setting up in an expensive clothing store if I was a ghost.

-valerie's dad is possibly the most useful adult so far, with that ghost shield expansion!!! and valerie saving vlad and danny, even tho shes been thru it already, shes still so good!!! this family rules.

-valerie being direct with sam and challenging her? kinda love that, even tho I normally don't like 'catfight' type situations. because sam has been very passive aggressive about it which is annoying. valerie knows wtf she wants and wasn't even embarrassed to tell sam, but she did tell her, giving sam time to make her own move! and sam denied it and got embarrassed/mad! and sam did have a chance when danny was about to go off and fight, and she hesitated and didn't tell him. I feel like she's hesitating because they're friends and it might make it weird between the trio (poor tucker would be third-wheeling) but if u snooze u lose, u gotta GO after what u WANT girl. smh this is a No Tsundere Zone. 😤

(Y/N) and Shouta met when she was in her 1st year at U.A. He was a Big Three, thus he had to train her class and help them with hero work. They became the interns of the same hero, and that's when they started dating. When the girl finally graduated U.A, they moved in together. Their life was most of the time peaceful. However, when Shouta became a teacher himself, he got very busy. It was already something that hurt (Y/N), even if she knew it wasn't his fault ; he was even trying to be with her as much as he could, despite her being a pro hero as well. And she was kind of famous !

Indeed, she was one of the top 20 heroes, and the man not wanting to be in the spotlight, he was trying to avoid wherever she was going -as paparazzis were always nearby. Still, their couple and their love for each other was much stronger than busy schedules. It was Shouta who asked his partner to marry him. That night, they had gone to a fancy restaurant, they had watched a movie (Y/N) had been wanting to see for a long time, and the brunette was wearing a blue suit. It wasn't typical of him to wear blue, but it was a suit the woman had bought him. He wanted her to be happy. And after that night, it became 'the suit you asked me to marry you in' as she called it. Shouta didn't mind the name.

Their wedding was so beautiful. They both referred to it as the best day of their lives. All of their friends were there, the music had been perfect, the food had been perfect, and Shouta had even managed to dance perfectly, impressing even his now wife. He couldn't forget the smile she had worn the whole night, and even the two days after. She even got pregnant, yeah. It was a girl, and they had named her (D/N). But (Y/N) was 7 months pregnant when she had a miscarriage. Villains attacked their house, because of her rank. And Shouta couldn't do anything. Their lives couldn't be the same after that.

After what happened, (Y/N) kept training and training, her quirk affecting her sanity. It was a dangerous quirk. The legend said that whenever she was angry somewhere, the sky would turn into storm. When she would be sad, it would turn into rain. But it would only be where she would be standing, not affecting the rest of the town. And Shouta knew ; that legend was true. (Y/N) got depression. Maybe he did, too. But one day, he woke up, and she was gone.

She only left him a letter : ''(H/N) is gone. Tell the news I'm dead, that villains killed me in front of you. I'm not coming back'' it said. And Shouta knew that losing his daughter was one of the worst day of his life, but losing his wife had been even worst than anything else. He knew (Y/N) wasn't gone for real. Some nights, while he was doing his hero work, she would attack him, out of the blue, for fun. She looked like a villain, her hero costume was just a memory to him, now. Her quirk had left some traces on her ; her eyes looked crazy. She looked tired. She looked insane. And Shouta knew that that smile was fake, as the sky would always turn a dark purple with scary clouds, whenever she was.

She never got caught. Even after 5 years, she didn't get caught. As he had new students, Shouta had to investigate on the League of Villains. And weirdly, she had managed to befriend them and they were now a part of her own villain relations. They were so many. But weirdly, never once they attacked heroes he knew. The League of Villains attacked U.A, yes. But (Y/N) and her own minions ? Never once. He didn't know who they attacked. He didn't care as long as she wasn't caught.

Mr. Blue, I told you that I love you.

Please believe me.

Mr. Blue, I have to go now.

Darling don't be angry.

A few years later, it was Midnight's wedding. Everyone was having fun, and even some students had been invited as they had graduated U.A. Still, Shouta wasn't someone who partied, even after all those years. He just went outside, and stood on a hill nearby. The sky was beautiful. He was lost in his thoughts when he heard footsteps. Thinking it was Hizashi, the brunette turned his head carelessly. But how wrong he was. ''How did you hear about the wedding ?'' He asked. ''I hear about a lot of things. And I wouldn't miss Nemuri's wedding.'' (Y/N) replied, standing next to him, but far enough not to make it too intimate.

Knowing he would break at seeing her this close, the man turned his gaze back to the stars. ''She never heard I was a villain. I retired, anyway.'' The woman continued, Shouta's eyes widening. ''What do you mean ?'' He asked her, confused. ''It's over, for me. My quirk is worst than before. I may die if I use it again. I used drugs, you know ? I used to talk with the yakuzas when I was at my villain peak.'' She said, a little smile on her face -maybe nostalgia ? ''Did you like it ?'' Shouta asked, calmly. ''Well, it was nice while it lasted.'' She replied, smiling. ''Just like our relationship together.'' She continued, making the brunette sigh at her words. To him, the relationship wasn't really over. Sure, they weren't together, but there was still something

''I never broke up with you. You just... left.'' He said. He was right. It made (Y/N) uncomfortable that he was right. So she decided to make him uncomfortable instead ; it was what she used to do. ''You're wearing the blue suit. The suit you asked me to marry you in. Were you expecting me ?'' She asked, chuckling. ''Maybe ? I don't have many suits. You were the one finding them for me. Hizashi isn't really good at it.'' He explained, making the woman smile. But he kept talking. ''I loved you, for 17 years.'' He said. ''I wasn't even 17 when we met.'' She replied, chuckling.

I know that you're tired.

I know that you're sour and sick,

and sad for some reason.

''There were so many things I wanted to tell you. But now that you're here, I don't know what to do.'' Shouta said, not being able to put words on what he was feeling. ''You just feel... comforting, you know ?'' He tried to illustrate his emotions. ''Do you remember, when we started dating, you said you liked being in the same room as me, cause it was a peaceful room ?'' The woman asked, making him nod. ''I guess even after all this time, it's still peaceful.'' He said. ''Why did you never try to attack me ? You are a hero, after all.'' (Y/N) asked. ''I didn't want to. And you never did something that made agencies send me. You never attacked the school, nor our friends... you've always been clever.''

''This discussion is shit. Can you believe that ? We went through so much shit together, that we don't have anything else to say. And still, it's comforting.'' The woman said. ''I don't see why it wouldn't be comforting. I've never been mad at you. When you left, the only thing I thought was : '(Y/N) is gone, and now everything's worst.' But I don't blame you. Our life was hell. It was surely better for us to stop being together. It couldn't work, even if we still want it to work.'' Shouta said, admitting in the same time that he still loved her. He guessed she had admitted she still loved him too, as she never once said the room wasn't comforting.

''Thank you.'' She said. ''I'm sorry. Thank you.'' Those were just a few words, but they meant many things ; how grateful she had been to live with him. He was so understanding and was so in love with her, he wasn't even enraged when she left. ''Thank you, too. I'm not as socially awkward as I was in high school. You helped me a lot by making me humiliate myself in front of many people.'' Shouta said, smiling. It even made (Y/N) laugh. ''Did you want to see me ?'' He asked. ''Yeah. To tell you that I'm leaving. I've left once without telling you. I can at least see you in person now that I'm okay.'' She replied.

So I'll leave you with a smile.

Kiss you on the cheek.

And you will call it treason.

''You're okay ?'' He asked ; his memories of her being a happy person were very old, as their last moments together had just been her drowning more and more into insanity. But she did look sane, now. All the marks of her quirk were gone. Even her face looked peaceful and rest. After they lost their daughter, after she became depressed, and after her quirk drove her crazy... she was now okay. ''Yes. Are you ?'' She asked, and he nodded. He wasn't lying. He really was okay. ''We have to, anyway. We're not young anymore. We can't afford it.'' Shouta started.

         ''Life's a bitch and then you die, right ?'' He asked, almost laughing at his own sentence. ''Sometimes... sometimes life's a bitch and you keep living.'' (Y/N) replied. It was true. She kept living. He kept living. ''But it's a nice night, hm ?'' She asked, as she had been staring at the sky as well. He remembered how she affected the sky around her. But this time, the night was peaceful. There wasn't any dark cloud, the stars were bright and shiny. They couldn't hear the wind, and couldn't even feel it. She really was okay. She had grown. Shouta smiled. ''Yeah. This is nice.'' He replied -it was comforting.

Mr. Blue, don't hold your head so low,

        They looked at the sky together, enjoying that it was calm and beautiful. For so many years, (Y/N) had only seen dark clouds, and for so many years, Shouta was all alone to enjoy the calm. The woman sat, as she was getting tired to stand up. Hizashi had walked outside, looking for his friend, when he saw him, on the top of a hill. He recognized the silhouette next to him. Hizashi's mouth was agape, his eyes widened. (Y/N) decided to lay on the floor completely, making Shouta turn to look at her and laugh. He laughed way too much for a simple move. But he had missed it ; she laughed with him as well.

        ''Yamada-sen- Yamada, what's going on ?'' Izuku asked, still being disturbed that he couldn't use the 'sensei' now that he had graduated. ''I can't tell if that's the happiest or the saddest scene I've seen.'' He whispered, still focused on the couple. Izuku didn't understand, but as he recognized the silhouette of his former teacher, he kept watching. Meanwhile, the couple wanted to say things to each other, sometimes their heads turning to look at the other and their mouths opening as if to say something, but they couldn't find anything to say ; they had lived everything, there was nothing left to be said. They just didn't have anything to say to one another anymore.

         (Y/N) looked at Shouta ; he was still standing, looking at the sky. But he had a bright smile on his face. She was thankful that he had been in her life. But they lost so many things together, and she turned a villain, they couldn't get back together anymore. She hoped he understood she loved him ; she had never been the type to say it out loud, and never was he. She hoped he also believed everything she had just said to him, because she had meant everything. And as he was focused on the sky, she decided it was time for her to go, quietly. But this time, she couldn't be a villain. But she couldn't come back anyway. Once the brunette turned to look at her once again, she was gone.

note that the 'room that feels comforting', the 'nice while it lasted', the blue suit, the '... is gone, and now everything is worst’, the final dialogue and the fact that they want to look at each other but have nothing left to say all come from Bojack Horseman and I'm very thankful for that show it gives very good life lessons and helped me actually to deal with some stuff so 🤧❤️❤️❤️

Pirate Theatre is Makin' It This Weekend

The students greatly surpassed my expectations at Cedar Creek High School's production of Makin' It. This play by Cynthia Mercati was directed by John T. Stephan and brought a host of veteran and green actors together to do this show.

There is more than meets the eye in any high school hallway. This play shows that in any clique, any student, any teacher, there something beneath the surface desperately trying to get out.

Direction by John T Stephan was strong last night. You could tell he really wanted a show that gave a lot of new performers a chance to shine while being supported by a core group of his stage veterans. What I always love about Stephan is that he seeks to build young artists up and develop their talent and not just to put on a great show to sell tickets.

But I did feel that even his fledgling actors were stronger than the script he was working with. There were several parts of the script that I saw him valiantly try to create workarounds for.

For example: the script stops all dramatic action to make actors walk downstage and then bare their souls under blue light in monologue. I feel it’s a problem that only exists in the show because the script says it must happen. In fact this got so formulaic that Dana and I could guess to within a second when another monologue was coming. We would have loved it much better if there were no monologues and the story could keep moving forward.

But here was my ultimate problem with them: the monologues where where I saw Stephan shine! This is a man whose directing style I know the most and these intimate moments were where I could see him dive into character work and coax some solid performances out of his actors. There are even some small one on one scenes between characters where I saw him try to create a real character driven scene despite the source material and because they were doing their best I began to really feel something. I just really hope in the future that the script chosen is as strong as this cast.

Dana and I saw a bunch of kids who are nothing like these characters who are looking for some nuggets of truth to latch onto. "But Ricky," you say "isn't acting all about portraying a character that's nothing like you?" Obviously yes but I felt some of these actors had characters so unreal and unauthentic they went beyond that and were able to tap into something deeper than anything could have realized. So let's talk about who really made us feel something.

Buzzard Fishbeck (played by Jonathan Nass) gave Dana this feeling of “why bother, if everyone thinks I’m this way why am I going to change?" She was really impressed by how sincere was even though he was our comic relief. Great job!

There really is something wonderful about Monica (played by Elisa Zapata) and I noticed it immediately. I'm coining a phrase today by saying her best acting was "behind her eyes". She found a way to make me see the wheels turning in the character's head. A great performance!

Kudos to Karl Swanson (played by Jacob Thompson) for stepping into the role only two weeks ago and giving us a strong first impression. He was just the prop master then so you could call this a huge promotion! I really hope to see him onstage again.

Travis (played by Kyle Heck) won me over with his last stand against Hunter. He finally seemed to calm down and give me chills with his honest delivery of his lines.

Hunter Dunbar (played by Cody Tittermary) did such a really good job being a scumbag that Dana didn't like him. But I know him and this is completely different from who he is. He did win her over with the honest delivery of his monologue. It was her favorite.

Brooke Benedict (played by Rebekah Allebach) made me not hate this play. Her monologue was full of feeling and passion and she poured it out generously so that we all could share. That’s the kind of acting we need all over the South Jersey High School Stage. Feel something and take us on the journey with you!

I've had the privilege of seeing Howie (played by Evan Theoharis) perform at GTMS before and I'm so happy to see him not only staying true to form but even getting better in his craft. If he digs into his characters a bit more his natural stage presence will take him the rest of the way.

We could tell that Mrs. Cozlowe (played by Violet Vogel) was trying to channel every terrible teacher she'd ever had to deliver a truly authentic performance. It's very hard to take on the role of one of the authority figures in your life and not make it look cookie cutter. She really did not disappoint.

With Vince Carnelli (Played by Nathan Carnelli) he seems like he was really trying to latch onto a similar authority figure in his own life. Either way he did it he made Dana empathize with him.

Kudos to Max Stubbe in the background creating a character that I definitely wanted to know more about. Everytime they were onstage I really hoped that their monologue would start but it never did. Thanks for making me smile!

We want to reiterate that we saw kids do an amazing job trying to relate to characters that they've never seen before. This is not to say there aren't similar kids in high school or America however those kids are three dimensional and to ask them to become one dimensional on a stage is hard. They have to bring way more into the story than the writer did. And that's what we want to celebrate right now. We're very proud of all these kids.

Costumes by Cynthia Kahn actually did make my life. Having lived through this decade as a kid I may or may not have worn these clothes once (I also may or may not have been a Howie). Thanks for taking me on a trip in the Way Back machine.

Kudos to set design by John T. Stephan and Jen Tracy who was also Head Scenic Artist. The minimal set design really served the production well while still being very visually interesting.

You really should see this show. It is a great example of good young performers delivering solid textbook performances through the support of an artistic staff that only wants to see them shine! Please come out and cheer them on!
