It kinda annoys me how Naruto had that whole speech about defying fate during his fight with Neji in the chunin exams, but then later on it was “prophecy this” and “toad’s dream that”
I think it would’ve been cooler if they had leaned way more into Senju’s/Uzumaki’s being at odds with the Uchiha (Hashirama and Madara being friends plus Kushina and Mikoto being friends was phenomenal, but it weakened the whole “natural enemies” and “cycle of fighting” for me) and if all the prophecies including Naruto were supposed to end in a tragedy
Like if it was actually fated that Sasuke was going to kill Naruto
But then it didn’t happen, even with a situation in this au of Hashirama and Madara being right there and trying to force the two of them to fight, both of them said no and made their own path

"kazuki please hear me out!" he placed a hand on his best friend's shoulder as they entered the elevator, music playing softly in the background. a ding ringed throughout the box as the door closed.
"absolutely not shinya, i can't listen to another conspiracy theory today," kazuki sighed as he ran his hands through his soft, brown hair. "you've already told me ten this week alone." he shoved his best friend to the side, grinning and rolling his eyes.
"it's not just another theory, i have solid proof!" shinya smirked, placing proud hands on his hips before stepping in front of his friend. "you'll wanna hear about this one, i swear!"
shinya had always been interested in theories about anything and everything, it was what he lived for. he loved researching to see if the theories he'd seen were really true. so far, none of the theories he'd looked into were true, but this one, this one was real.
kazuki raised a brow. "oh yeah? that's a first for you." he always complained to shinya about the theories he'd gush about, but he never meant it. he adored seeing shinya so excited, it gave him life, something to look forward to everyday.
they made a promise years ago, that no matter what, they would always be together. so, the pair decided to get the same job in the same office building. it was a well established building, many different kinds of people worked there. But nevertheless, the two always enjoyed every coworker they'd had.
"just listen, okay?" kazuki leaned against the elevator wall, watching as shinya fumbled to get his phone out of his pant pockets. he admired shinya for being so clumsy even at work when they had to act perfect and professional, going as far as to wear full suits to work. "so, you heard about the massacre that happened last night, right?"
kazuki's smiled faded, the atmosphere in the elevator getting heavier than he'd like. "yeah, the news said there were a ton of people dead." his brows furrowed, crossing his arms in confusion. "good thing that king wasn't there, that would've been horrible if he died."
"2,500 casualties, no survivors, but just before the king arrived," shinya scrolled on his phone, seemingly reading from an article. "the police couldn't figure out who did it despite the first death being approximately one hour before they arrived."
"they were all diplomats, weren't they?"
"yeah," shinya was so focused, his eyes glued to the device he had in his grasp. "here, take a look at this." he handed his phone to kazuki before taking a step beside him. it was a video. kazuki tapped his finger on the screen, making the video start.
the screen showed five different men, each different heights behind what he assumed was the building where the diplomats were killed. kazuki's eyes widened as he realized who the shortest man was. the chief of the police department. he began talking first.
"please, i'm begging you kita-" his voice cracked as he pleaded. the silver haired man in the video grabbed the chief's arm, twisting it harshly and making him fall to his knees. he whispered something the video couldn't capture. "sir! sir! i'm so sorry!"
"good boy, now which one of your heathens knows about us?" the silver haired man's voice was deep, menacing, filled with malice as he spoke. it made kazuki's stomach turn just by watching a video. the man grabbed the chief by his hair, pulling him back. "answer me."
"kaito, akimatsu, minato..." the chief was so quick to give the names of his comrades, the man letting go of his hair and throwing his head forward, making the chief leave his head hanging.
"twins," the man hissed. "kill 'em."
"yes boss!" two of the men behind the silver haired man spoke, playfulness in there voice before they ran into the building once more.
the silver haired man walked towards the last man standing, once again whispering something the video couldn't pick up as the last man grabbed the police chief by the collar, beginning to drag him away. "yessir."
"what?! we had an agreement! i tell no one about the mafia's whereabouts and you let me live! please!" the chief cried, being slightly choked as he was being pulled away.
"well, how did your men figure us out then?" the silver haired man's eyes seemed to glow a bright yellow in the darkness, shining and boring into the police chief. he cried, whining, begging and pleading to survive, all the while the silver haired man, the leader, smirked. "aran, make him writhe in agony."
the video cut out after those last words. kazuki felt his hand tremble as the phone shook in his grasp. "shinya, these people...are the mafia..?"
"yeah, just hearing the screams of that guy make me sick no matter how many times i watch it." shinya sighed, taking a step back, giving his friend room to breath. "but, i do know that this is true, it's not just a theory this time."
"shinya." kazuki's voice was deep, serious. "did you record this?" shinya grinned, nodding his head before hearing a thud on the ground as kazuki grabbed his shoulders. "you need to stop this!" his voice raised, his eyes wide with a mixture of worry and anger. "stop doing dangerous things, you're going to get yourself killed."
"i can't stop, this is what i live for kazuki. i can't just stop now! i would happily die if it meant those bullies get justice." kazuki scoffed, shoving shinya against the wall before turning towards the front of the elevator.
"you're such an idiot, shinya." he shoved him hands into his pockets, his mind fuzzy with frustration. he couldn't stop himself from speaking. "what about me? if you die, i have nothing." there was no response, only the painfully joyful elevator music filling his ears.
he sighed. "okay i'm sorry, no need for the silent tr- shinya?" he turned, his face filling with confusion as he glanced around. he was alone, shinya was gone? he looked up in his panic, not being able to register the large hole in the corner of the elevator.
kazuki's forehead wrinkled, his eyes becoming watery as his face lost all the color he'd had mere seconds ago. with a large thud, shinya's bloodied body fell from the hole in the elevator. splashes of warm, red liquid appeared before kazuki's very eyes.
his scream was raw, painful as veins appeared on his tense neck. sweat dripped down his forehead as he fell to the ground, crawling over to shinya. his eyes were lifeless, staring into kazuki with no remorse. "shin.." the elevator ding mimicked his cries as the door split in two.
kazuki held his cold, dead friend in his arms as he felt a pit in his stomach, anxiety creeping into his blood. his mouth hung open at the sight of the first floor of his office building.
crimson red was all he could see.
he stood, gently setting shinya down as he stumbled towards the scene. "no..." he couldn't help but stare at all the innocent and lifeless faces he recognized in the sea of bodies. "how did this happen..?" he whispered, unable to speak any louder.
his question was answered by a sharp pain in his abdomen. the sharp point of the knife stuck out of him, letting his fingers dance around the blade as another wave of immense pain washed over him, his scream echoed throughout the building, the bodies absorbing his sound.
his body gave in to the strained muscles that were keeping him up. he fell flat, giving the knife room to move by itself. his blood intertwined with the puddle of blood from his best friend as the knife ripped him open little by little. a stream of red flowed from his lips as the only thing he could think about was shinya.
he felt the rumble of a footstep near his head, making him turn to see the cause. a man. a hooded man wearing the color of death, step out of the elevator. "you..." his hoarse voice made the figure turn. "the mafia...right?" the hooded figure did not reply, instead he leaned down taking shinya's unlocked phone that kazuki had dropped what seemed like hours ago.
kazuki laughed, a crooked smile on his lips as the blood continued to spill from him. "the mafia killed us.." he coughed. "i guess we'll stay together forever now...shin."
the hooded figure watched the video of the mafia briefly before pocketing the device. he let out a sign as he turned fully glaring down at the manic character before him. "goin' up." his voice was hoarse, but deep. it would make anyone tremble before him just like the man in the video.
kazuki used the last of his strength to pull himself slightly out of the elevator and stare up at the man as he heard the click of a button. his jagged smile quickly turned into a horrified frown as the elevator doors began to close with a loud ding.
"no..." he whispered.
"no.." the doors were getting closer.
"NO!" he shrieked.
the doors were on either side of his body, determined to close and get the man to his destination. his screams were filled with agony of his bones began to bend and break, shattering anything in its path. the hooded man watched, his foxlike eyes boring into the man being broken before him.
he cleared his throat as he turned on his heel, stepping over the dozens of bloodied bodies on his way to the front door. he placed his hands into the pockets of his hoodie, steadily turning the corner before the crowds could appear.
a sigh fell from his lips as his hood fell from the wind, revealing his black hair in a messy bun on the back of his head, his baby hairs swayed as they tickled his forehead. with a few swift movements, he tore off the large, baggy hoodie, revealing a black suit that fit him almost too perfectly.
he rolled his shoulders back, flexing his sore muscles as he reached into his pocket. as he did, he threw his blood spattered clothes behind him and into the air, pulling the lighter he’d taken from one of the men in the elevator from his pocket. with a quick flick of his wrist, the flame of the lighter caught his clothes, lighting them ablaze.
the flame caught the side of the office building, setting it ablaze as he walked down the civilian ridden path. shouts and cries were all he could hear as the building collapsed, sirens nearing their destination from blocks away.
it wasn’t long before he arrived at the place he’d been looking for. he stopped, opening the glass door to the red telephone booth that sat on one of the back alleys. he grabbed the phone, his slender fingers tapping at the numbers as he dialed the contact he’d been given. he held the phone to his ear as it rang, soon to be picked up on the other end.
"codename: fox."
"nicely done fox, we're sending a car to your coordinates."

Wait wait, can I hear more about the itachi not using shisui’s eye thoughts? Because honestly, for a character that’s supposed to be a pacifist, itachi seems to be written much more like an Angel of Death esque serial killer?
Uhhhhhhh okay I'll try to get this down before tumblr makes me wanna gouge my eyes out (why is dark mode just as painful to look at as light mode make it stopppp)
-It is very clear that Itachi was originally intended to be a Pure Evil character with different motivations. In Naruto OG we *really* have no reason to think he is anything other than a nutjob who murdered his family and tortured his brother for the lols. NOW. This isn't actually an irredeemable factor for him as a character, with a show as long as Naruto it is perfectly possible to rewrite him and tweak him into a tragic villain or even the tragic hero Kishi wanted us to later believe he was. *IF* proper work is done to explain why the so called pacifist resorted to so much violence.
-Which obviously never explicitly happens even though with how Itachi's backstory is set up it honestly wouldn't be that hard.
-Moving on from the meta perspective may I put forth to you this answer to All the Itachi Questions:
-Danzo.
-No seriously. I already suspected this when I was reading just the fanfic, but actually watching the arc where we see Itachi's spiral there are some Key Things I noticed happening that are literally never mentioned or expanded on that would make Itachi choosing Massacre over Brainwashing make perfect sense.
-Gonna have to backtrack just a bit for this, but when I say that Danzo wanted the Uchiha dead, I *mean he wanted them dead*. Not just in a "the village and the Uchiha were starting to butt heads anyway and he took preemptive murder action" way but like- "intentional years long plan to kill off this entire clan" way.
-One of the big things that fueled the rumor that the Uchiha were at fault for the Kyuubi attack, other than the old story of Madara controlling the Kyuubi, is that the Uchiha were not present for the defense against the Kyuubi. A lot of clans took heavy losses trying to fend the biju off or drive it out of the village until Minato could arrive, but the Uchiha were literally not there, and people got suspicious as to why. The answer is literally Danzo. Fugaku was planning to marshal the Uchiha *because* he hoped he and his clan would be able to mass genjutsu the Kyuubi into being docile, but at the last minute he received orders from *Danzo* through one of his Root, to instead take his clan and.
-Guard the civilian underground shelters and the village outskirts "in case an enemy tries to sneak in in the chaos". I'm sorry but uh. YOUR CHUUNIN COULD DO THAT WHILE THE PEOPLE WITH MIND CONTROL POWERS HELP WITH THE BIJU PROBLEM? But no. Danzo specifically ordered them to the two places they could not help against the Kyuubi and would be mostly out of sight/would be accused of using civilians as an excuse to save their own skins.
-No explanation is ever given to the general populace for why the Uchiha were not there, even though it was a direct order from the man who was, at the time, Sarutobi's known SiC and primary advisor. All Sarutobi would have to do is say 'they were following my orders' and it would clear up. He does not. Which indicates that Sarutobi *possibly* did not even known Danzo did what he did, and the Uchiha never told the Hokage because Danzo is his SiC and this would not be the first time people just assumed Danzo is operating on Sarutobi's orders/permission.
-We see multiple mULTIPLE times in this arc that over the course of literal years, starting from the Kyuubi attack and on to the Massacre, that Danzo was intentionally orchestrating the tension in the village. The isolation of the Uchiha compound wasn't Tobirama, it was Danzo, who had them relocated post the Kyuubi attack for "better reconstruction of the village". They were so far removed they were outside the chakra barrier/radar thing that Pain used Itachi's passcode for in the Pain Arc. That's how far removed they were from the village proper. They were under 24 hr, intense surveillance, cameras on their streets, watch towers hidden around their compound border, cameras even looking *into* the windows of their houses. And they were aware of it, because the Uchiha are not dumb and also have really good vision thank you. They can see that. Their one foundational position in the village, the Police Force, was being forcibly and slowly taken from them with Danzo pushing Sarutobi to insist they take on officers from other clans like Inuzuka and Aburame, and some of their traditional patrol beats were being straight up reassigned to ANBU. You know, the guys who are supposed to be busy assassinating Konoha's enemies, not breaking up bar brawls.
-I could go on with this but if you actually watch that arc and watch Danzo, he is very intentionally *trying* to force the Uchiha to plot a coup. He is trying to get an excuse to kill them all. AND on top of that, we already know he has a sharingan eye already, yes even before Shisui. In fact he steals Shisui's eye because his current one is going blind *presumably from overuse*, which means he's already spent who knows how long subtly influencing/genjutsuing Sarutobi and other high ranked shinobi into looking the other way or agreeing with him on policy stuff.
-Enter *Itachi* and Shisui, who are trying to juggle this entire situation at ages like- 11 and maybe 14 when this starts and later Itachi at a lonely 13 by the end. Every time they come up with advice on how to help lower clan tensions to Sarutobi, Danzo railroads it and makes the situation worse instead. There's literal dialogue for it, where he'll interrupt them or just later on dismiss the idea and bully Sarutobi (who lets himself be bullied) into doing something else that is clearly just going to make the Uchiha madder.
-Somewhere about ... halfway I'd guess? Halfway at the earliest through this train wreck, Itachi gets pulled from Kakashi's ANBU squad and given, by Sarutobi, *to Danzo* and his ROOT shinobi, who at the time were not only known about by Sarutobi but implicitly approved of, they've worked alongside normal ANBU for several missions in the past. So now Itachi, the pacifist, the clan heir, the linchpin to this entire disaster, is directly under the command of Danzo Eye-Stealer and Genjutsu User Shimura, is within his reach and probably in his presence for *long periods of time* to receive orders/get pontificated at. Remember that point.
-Okay so now, NOW we get to Shisui's eye and Itachi not using it. To start with, Itachi was fully on board with Shisui's plan, he *wanted* this plan to work, he and Shisui were gonna meet up, go to the Clan Head, and do the thing. But Shisui, poor naive soul, reported to Danzo first, to inform him that "hey we're going to fix this problem". Danzo's response is to attack Shisui and rip out his eye to replace his now mostly blind current sharingan. Shisui runs, suicide by dramatics yada yada, his dying words are for Itachi to take his remaining eye and DO THEIR PLAN.
-Itachi straight up ... does not do it. In canon there is no actual reason stated. I don't thing we even get Itachi doing a long-winded monologue (which Kishi usually adores doing to kill us with boredom) about why he thinks the plan will fail. Instead we hit a *timeskip* of anything from a few weeks to possibly a few months, and then we have Itachi approaching "Madara" for assistance in the massacre.
-Madara who, iirc, Danzo is also aware of, I believe he bargained with Madara at least once in canon for something but I don't remember where that shows up.
-Funny how the guy who now has a fresh new brainwashing eye suddenly is not going to be responsible for the final blow to the Uchiha. Funny how the 13 year old who is under his direct command and influence goes from wanting to fix the problem without bloodshed to *recruiting a rogue shinobi* to help kill everyone, and then handily removing himself from the village entirely to go spy on the Akatsuki and make himself Konoha's enemy #1 for years to come.
-Funny how no one ever heard the massacre take place, and how the Uchiha compound was already conveniently outside the barrier radar so no one would notice the Uchiha chakra signatures going out en masse.
-Funny, how the first people on the scene of the massacre? Are Danzo and his root agents.
-Funny, isn't it, that the man with years of experience using a stolen eye to influence people in secret suddenly has everything he wants, and the talented but much less experienced *child* directly under his command goes against all his previous ideals of pacifism to do something that will fully benefit Danzo and then removing himself from the situation entirely to serve as a spy against Danzo's other potential problems.
-Funny isn't it that the one thing Itachi loved enough to defy orders for, Sasuke, almost *died* from the trauma of the Tsukuyomi anyway (iirc he was in a coma for a few *days*, but that could be fanon I'm misremembering).
-Funny that, over the years, this one single loose end of Danzo's, this one last thing Itachi would be willing to destroy Danzo for even after all he has done and abandoned, is systematically isolated and then later hunted by a missing ninja who *also* spent a lot of time in the past working for Danzo. Including being able to send the Sound Four in to get him in the heart of the village without any alarms going up in the barrier radar thing. For which Danzo has the codes for his root ninja who are also now not supposed to exist.
-Funny how this one loose end keeps running into circumstances that by rights should either kill him or make him *also* a missing ninja that Konoha should hunt down, and the only thing that keeps Sasuke from being declared an enemy of the village and slaughtered for a bounty is the unanticipated attachment of Tsunade to Naruto, who loves Sasuke enough to beg for clemency for him.
-Funny how one of the *first* things Danzo does after becoming temporary Hokage is put out a bounty on this one boy that survived his plotting and was the only threat left to him from Itachi, even after Itachi has died.
-But sure. It was all Itachi's idea to massacre the clan and never use Shisui's eye to fix the problem. No sir definitely no brainwashing of a baby Uchiha involved there, nope. Nada. What are you talking about. Itachi totally did this all of his own choice and volition.

[ It's The Same Tale, Once Again ]
Tumblr media
Pardon my mistakes, English is not my first language.
Summary : (This story takes place a year after the Uchiha Massacre happened.) Kakashi is dead. All thanks to his ANBU mission. However, a mysterious man named Roku, whom he met in the limbo, gave Kakashi a second chance to fix everything from the beginning. Kakashi expected to be back one day before the Kannabi Bridge tragedy happened.
He was wrong. He was back when his mother died one day ago, and he had to face his father, again.
Could he save his father and himself? At this point, he could only hope.

Death was the least of his worries. But Kakashi never thinks it would be hurtful to die when someone is with you. In his last moment, he said his last wish to Tenzo. His wish was simple: "Please protect this village and be better than me." Forgive yourself and keep walking until the end. I wish you all the happiness that may come to you. "
2 - 3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But rather than dead, Kakashi found himself in limbo. A man introduces himself as Roku. And Kakashi told the story about the tragedy that started when his mother died until his death. Roku was patiently listening and sometimes made some weird commentary about how he and Kakashi were particularly the same.
And since Kakashi never heard Roku tell him his story, he asked him, "What kind of person were you when you were alive?"
Roku simply answers, "Let's just say I'm lost on the road of life. And I'm here waiting until I'm ready to take my second chance. "
Hearing such words, Kakashi feels a little jealous, yet happy. "It must be nice to have a second chance."
4
Tumblr media
Roku: "Haha, not really. I have never been ready to face my second chance." After all, I made a lot of mistakes. And I don't think I've ever been ready to forgive myself. "
Kakashi: "Ah, I see... Regret is hard, right?"
Roku : "I know, anyway, do you want it?"
Kakashi: "Excuse...?"
Roku: "Do you want my second chance?"
Kakashi: "... Pardon, but I must be mistaken. It's your second chance, right? That is to mean, it was all for yours, not mine. "
Roku: "Nah, I'm actually able to give someone my second chance. Well, let's just say how grateful I am to Rikudo Sannin for giving me a second chance. But, I'm not ready. Could you deny that? "
Kakashi: "... I'm not ready either. I mean, Facing them again, I... I...".

Tumblr media
"I know, you, or I, or people there, have never been ready to face the same things again. But Kakashi, you were brave and "kind." I'm proud of how much you tried to learn and change."
Kakashi shows him a sad smile behind that mask. "You flatter me too much."
And with that, Roku placed his hand on his cheek. "And because of that, I'll give you this chance. Please use it wisely, and... Remember, save what you can save. Not everyone. You can change some of their fate, and you can also change your life. "
"... Huh, so I can't deny your offer?" Kakashi nods. "Alright, I will do this—."
By the second time his word was not finished, a particle of light started to surround him. "Thank you for telling me your story, Kakashi."
"Wait, wait—."
"Promise me, be happy in this life..."
"... I promise..."

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kakashi heard a familiar voice around him. It must be Minato-sensei. 'As I thought, this is the Kannabi Bridge mission. '
He was glad until... "I'm so sorry for your loss, Sakumo-san."
'... Father? What—? '
"Thank you, Minato-san. I'm also sorry you came to my wife's funeral. "
'Mom?'
"Please don't mind it, Sakumo— Wait, I think Kakashi-kun is awake...
"Huh? Ah, right... Can you wait here for a while? I'll go get him...
Kakashi can hardly open his eyes. So puffy— he must be sobbing over his mother's death— dear God! Please let him open his eyes.
"Kakashi..."?" His father's tender voice made him feel something stingy, sweet and bitter in the heart.
"Kakashi?" He could see the blurry vigor on top of him. And when he finally saw the full image... "You awake... Wait, I'll take some water... "
Before Sakumo moves, Kakashi tucks his finger into Sakumo's sleeves. Sakumo looks back. "Yes, Kakashi—?"

Kakashi couldn't help but cry (again).

Afternote
This is my longest piece that I have ever written in English. I humbly apologize if I made a lot of grammatical mistakes (which I did).
But here, some notes about this story (the draft that I keep/before revision of this story or what might happen next).
1. Originally (I think), Kakashi's death was caused by his own sacrifice. If you ask why, here are the short stories: Shisui is saved from committing suicide by Kakashi, who knows the Uchiha Coup plan (but if you remember, in the novel, Shisui was killed). He managed to keep Shisui hidden and work with him. He also worked with Tenzo and later with Itachi. Kakashi has a plan to expose Danzo's crimes (stealing doujutsu), and with that, he wants to show that it is not really Uchiha's the one who has a problem. And perhaps it will persuade Lord Third to reconsider. But that mission is not what Tenzo, or Shisui and Itachi, thought would be accomplished. Kakashi sacrifices himself to bring Danzo down (which I imagine Kakashi used himself as a trap and would rather Itachi, Shisui, or Tenzo finish the rest).
> Because of this, the Uchiha Massacre never happened, and Lord Third changed his mind. Shisui regains his one eye and works as a Jounin, while Itachi serves as an ANBU. Tenzo is still in mourning for Kakashi and has taken on the role of Jounin teacher for team seven.
> If this happens, When Kakashi is back in the past, the main goal after saving his father and his teammates is to remove Danzo from this existence.
> But since I thought this idea was ridiculous, I stopped using it and made Kakashi die because of the mission. And if you'd like to use it, sure you can.
2. After this event happens, I will add a lot of fluff. Kakashi and Sakumo deserve so much happiness (and I can't really write action, so I instead write scenarios about fluff and family feelings/bonding).
3. For the future event about Sakumo's mission, I'd rather change it. Well, you could say it was like patrolling around Konoha's border (while someone else takes his original mission). But knowing that the mission was a total failure, even for Sakumo, the attack suddenly happened and Sakumo almost died due to chackra exhaustion.
> This accident caused Sakumo to return to an active jounin routine for a while. The village didn't shun him, but pity him. And the village blame the person who takes Sakumo's original mission because that person is the one who start the war and Sakumo couldn't get back to "become a hero for this war" since his condition.
> The person who takes Sakumo's original mission is sort of a Jonin who enviously looks at Sakumo. His child is years older than Kakashi's and still in academies. That child sometimes bullies Kakashi, telling him his father is a coward for taking on a simple mission (that child thought patrolling the Konoha border was a simple mission). But when the situation changed, Kakashi could only blatantly think this was irony for that child's family.
I will add something in (maybe) the second part~ Thank you for reading this far! Have a nice day!

i feel like posting something, so here's one of those "everyone is impressed with sakura!!" scenes but it's from a wild AU
the AU is wild in that it's an AU of another AU. the "main" AU is one i've posted snippets of before (here and here), where Sakura is Kakashi's apprentice. The main gist is that Kizashi dies saving Kakashi's life and asks him on his death bed to watch out for Sakura, and things spiral out of control.
This is from an AU of that AU where Kakashi and Sakura transmigrate into a NEW AU where Minato lives. Yes yes, shut the fuck up, it was summer 2020 when I started this and my life was weird. The main points of this is AU are: Minato survived but Kushina didn't. The Uchiha coup didn't happen but ""someone"" massacred everyone but Itachi and Sasuke. Itachi is.... team 7's sensei 0:)
This scene is from a team lunch at the Namikaze house.
***
“Are you seriously talking about different types of soap?” Naruto asks, sounding offended.
“What else would we talk about?” Minato asks, bemused.
“Something cool,” Naruto replies. “What’s the point of you having cool ANBU guys over if you just talk about soap?”
The other genin seem similarly unimpressed with the conversation.
“Maa, we can talk about something cool,” Kakashi tells him. “For example, I recently bought a cast-iron pan.”
The genin quickly excuse themselves off the back porch and into the yard. They start a game disguised as training, where Sakura and Naruto test Sasuke’s new sharingan with various ninjutsu, trying to get a hit in. It’s mostly Naruto trying to overwhelm Sasuke with clones while Sakura hangs back, occasionally substituting out with a clone to try and take a jab at Sasuke.
Kakashi watches them out of the corner of his eye while Itachi describes some sort of misadventure with the mission office. That’s a pretty good formation for Sakura, Kakashi thinks, especially if he figures out a good finishing jutsu for her…
“Who did you say you talked to?” Minato asks, frowning. “New teams should be getting priority for D-ranks.”
“Tsk, tsk, Sensei,” Kakashi interrupts. “You said no work talk.”
Minato sighs, a grin tugging at his lips. “You’re right. I’m getting out the sake.”
“I don’t…” Itachi starts, but a drink is poured for him nonetheless. Naruto shrieks in dismay as his real body narrowly avoids being set on fire by Sasuke. Minato pauses for just a fraction of a second, glancing over at his child.
Itachi stares in dismay at his cup of sake while they chat. Kakashi is reminded almost painfully of his time on Team 7, before Minato was the Yellow Flash and when they had down time to just talk. It’s not the same, of course, because Itachi is nothing like Rin or Obito, but it’s still something that Kakashi had previously thought he’d never have again. He’d never appreciated it when he had it, and he wishes he could stretch this moment out forever.
Minato is cut off mid-sentence when Naruto abruptly screams in actual pain.
Here’s how it went down, as far as Kakashi can tell: Sakura, carefully pacing around the fray of Sasuke versus several Naruto clones, had determined which Naruto was the real one based on past patterns of behavior. When Naruto had charged in to take Sasuke on with his own body, Sakura had decided to give him a hand by substituting out with his hitai-ate, positioning herself on Naruto’s shoulders and therefore above Sasuke and angling to smack him in the face with the broad side of her sword.
She hadn’t been expecting Naruto to suddenly yell and jerk in pain, though, and she slips. Sasuke is also distracted by Naruto’s yell and does nothing to dodge the sword, now coming blade-first at his shoulder. Sakura moves to correct herself, looking panicked, and she doesn’t get to find out if she was about to accidentally stab Sasuke or not because Kakashi flash-steps over and yanks her back.
“What did I tell you about being reckless with a sword?” he asks her.
“Sorry, Sasuke-kun,” Sakura tells him sheepishly, dangling by her armpits from Kakashi’s hands.
Itachi, on the scene as quickly as Kakashi, has not stopped his brother from falling over. He does, however, offer him a hand up.
“What even happened?” Minato asks, perplexed. He’s squatted behind his son, also fallen on his ass, examining the back of his head. “You’re bleeding.”
“I don’t know!” Naruto replies. “Sakura, what the heck.”
“You need to tie your hitai-ate properly,” Minato scolds, gingerly touching the back of Naruto’s head. Naruto’s hitai-ate is in Minato’s other hand, because the Namikaze house is so littered with Hiraishin seals that Minato had been able to grab it out of the air before teleporting to his son’s aid, all before Kakashi had even gotten his hands around Sakura’s arm. “Another ninja can’t grab it with substitution if it’s secured--”
“Dad, I know,” Naruto cuts him off. “I know how to tie my hitai-ate, you know!”
Minato looks down at the hitai-ate in his hands. It’s indeed tied correctly, with several gold hairs sticking out of the knot.
“Did you tie it into your hair?” Sakura asks, affronted. “How was I supposed to know--”
“Sakura,” Kakashi cuts her off.
Sakura twitches but apologizes for ripping Naruto’s hair out. She seems unconcerned about hurting Naruto physically, but her apology does turn gravely, comically genuine about the hair. If Naruto had yanked out Sakura’s hair, Kakashi is not sure even Minato would be able to save him from her wrath. Hair is very serious business for her.
“Am I bald?” Naruto asks, sounding horrified, and Sakura’s eyes widen in horror. Sasuke snorts.
“It’s not like you can look any worse,” Sasuke tells him with a smirk. Naruto sticks his tongue out at him, and Sakura relaxes.
Now that it’s clear no one has been seriously injured or emotionally scarred by hair-pulling, the genin collapse into juvenile name calling. Minato stands, turning his son’s hitai-ate over in his hands with an oddly curious look on his face. The hitai-ate is still knotted at the back, with several of Naruto’s golden hairs sticking out.
“Did you not notice extra resistance?” Itachi asks Sakura with a tone of disapproval. “You shouldn’t rip things off your allies like that.”
“I thought…” Sakura waves her arms in a sort of helpless gesture. “I noticed it was on better than Kakashi’s, but Kakashi doesn’t tie his right.”
“Oi,” Kakashi objects at the same time Naruto squawks, “So you just ripped it off my head?!”
“Maybe that’s your finishing mood,” Sasuke says, crossing his arms and turning his mocking smirk to Sakura. “Just substitute yourself with someone’s hair--”
“Sakura,” Minato interrupts, and everyone goes quiet. “How did you do that?”
Sakura shifts nervously. “I’m not sure what you mean?” she says, voice carefully polite. “It’s just the substitution jutsu…”
“Most people can’t move something that well-attached,” Itachi tells her. He sounds dismissive, like he thinks this limitation is due to a lack of effort from other people. Maybe to a genius like Itachi, being able to push the limits of the substitution jutsu is just a matter of practicing it. Kakashi had, being a genius himself, been conceptualizing Sakura’s experimentation about the same way.
...although, now that Kakashi thinks about it, he’s not actually sure he could dislodge someone’s properly attached hitai-ate with the substitution jutsu. At least, not on the first try. He forms the hand signs.
“Sempai,” Itachi snaps, whipping his head around to frown at Kakashi when he tries to take Itachi’s hitai-ate.
“What’s her range?” Minato asks, even as he shoots Kakashi an annoyed look when Kakashi tries it on him next.
Neither Kakashi nor Itachi answer, currently distracted by trying to substitute with various pieces of the other’s uniforms. Neither of them are successful.
“What are you two doing?” Sasuke, sharingan still active and eyes darting between them, asks.
“Sakura,” Minato tries next, apparently fine with his shinobi trying to pull petty pranks on each other instead of listening to him under these circumstances. He shoots her his friendliest smile. “Can you substitute out with my hitai-ate?”
Sakura stiffens, and Kakashi drops his attempts to take Itachi’s shoes.
“Respectfully, I’d rather not,” Sakura says flatly. Kakashi puts a hand on her shoulder, and Itachi yanks so hard at his weapon’s pouch that he has to shift his stance ever so slightly.
“What’s going on?” Naruto asks, leaning his head back to blink up at his father. “Can I have my hitai-ate back?”
“I’ve just never heard of anyone using the substitution jutsu like that,” Minato says mildly, handing Naruto back his hitai-ate.
“Yeah, Sakura-chan is really smart, you know!” Naruto agrees.
Sakura’s face is pink. Kakashi is sure it’s more from the Hokage’s words than Naruto’s.
Naruto picks at the knot of his hitai-ate, looking forlorn as hair falls from it. Minato very deliberately puts his hands together in a hand sign, and then suddenly Itachi is staggering back and Minato’s weight is on Kakashi’s shoulders.
Kakashi’s eyes are bare, his hitai-ate now on the ground where Minato had been standing. Sakura has done this to him countless times, which is about the only reason he stays on his feet. It’s a close call though, as Minato is a full grown man and not a preteen girl, and he also did that so quickly Kakashi didn’t have time to brace himself. Kakashi does some embarrassing teetering, and Sakura yelps in surprise and jumps back.
“Oh, interesting,” Minato says. “You really don’t tie your hitai-ate very well, Kakashi.”
“In my defense,” Kakashi replies, trying to keep his cool with the Hokage squatting on his shoulders, “I do have to take it on and off a lot.”
“Hokage-sama, please,” Itachi hisses. His hitai-ate has been jerked to the side slightly by a failed attempt from Minato, but it’s still in place.
“Sakura, can you substitute out with Itachi’s hitai-ate?” Minato asks, leaning his elbow on the top of Kakashi’s head. “I can’t seem to get it.”
Sasuke’s eyes are darting furiously around the whole group, trying to demystify the Hokage’s interest. Even Naruto looks suspiciously around as he re-ties his hitai-ate.
“Uh,” Sakura replies. “I’ve never… tried…?”
“Go on, then,” Minato prompts. Kakashi can practically hear the smile in his voice. “I promise you won’t get in trouble.”
Sakura only hesitates a few moments. Itachi crosses his arms as his student appears on his shoulders. Sakura looks less sure than the usually gleeful look of chaos she reserves for Kakashi, and Itachi levels Minato with an unimpressed look.
Minato, however, is clearly entering whatever excited fugue he gets into when he’s developing new and horrible fuinjutsu experiments.
“Alright, Sasuke,” Minato continues in his best sensei voice. He drums the top of Kakashi’s head with his fingers. “Can you tell me what Sakura is doing that I’m not?”
Or, perhaps, Minato is having flashbacks to being a jounin sensei himself, because he’s clearly now guiding Sasuke through analyzing the situation with his new doujutsu, instead of Kakashi who has his out and has had it for years.
Sasuke looks taken aback for a moment. Then he straightens and says, “I’m not sure. I can’t… really see in that much detail yet.” He shoots his brother a look, as if asking if that’s normal. Itachi just tilts his head. “Sakura’s using a lot less chakra than you three, though.”
“Ah, so maybe us old folks are doing too much,” Minato says, and he shifts on Kakashi’s back.
Sakura very awkwardly and gingerly slides off of Itachi's shoulders.
“It’s not like moving a big object,” she says. “It’s like-- um. The difference between pulling the headband harder and undoing the knot.”
“Hmm,” Minato replies, like this metaphor makes perfect sense to him.
“I don’t get it,” Naruto says loudly. “What’s so interesting about-- DAD!”
Minato is suddenly holding his son under one arm. Kakashi snatches Naruto’s hitai-ate out of the air.
“This is some really impressive chakra work, Sakura,” Minato says, even as he grins cheekily down at his pouting son.
Sakura doesn’t preen like she would if Kakashi complimented her. Instead, she looks more quietly pleased, her cheeks going pink and a smile tugging at her lips.

📓 📓 two, one for nart and one for other fandom
sneaky, sneaky, cheating like that.
for naruto:
this is sort of a cheat, too, since i technically posted a very small portion of roads not taken, but it's not really within the greater context of what i'd hoped to do with it.
originally, that would have been a multichapter au fic in which kakashi abandons konoha for several years after rin's death, becomes a bit of a hermit in the woods somewhere, growing his own food and taking "missions" from people who need his help in exchange for whatever they can offer him. he lives freely - no mask, no anbu, no killing unless he has to - and finds greater peace much faster than in canon.
the idea was always that he would return to konoha when gai appeared at his front door one day (turns out the leaf always knew where he was and left him alone thanks to intervention from minato who was alive at the time of his defection). gai begs kakashi to return just before the uchiha massacre when the political tumult in konoha is palpable, unteneble. kakashi initially refuses, but then does come home, realizing that was always his purpose.
it's sort of a fix-it where itachi doesn't slaughter his clan and kakashi ends up hokage much earlier (hiruzen steps down in the wake of what happens and we skip tsunade entirely, my bad a;sdkflj). i'll never write it, but that's the gist! ahaha.
for trigun stampede (which i still have not finished thanks to crunchyroll being a whole dick):
i have always wanted to write something from vash's perspective about identity. i think it would be such a cool thing to delve into how he perceives himself and others, which parts of him feel human, feel plant.
which parts are only his, or maybe his and knives'.
he's such a deeply emotive character; so raw and open in some ways while being supremely guarded in others. i just think it would be such a fun experiment.

Little summarized info post!!!
[ Note: Majority of this was discussed with @kamuito / @gemdeus / @kakuchiwa and @norxii and @allgather!!! So when I’m talking about certain characters, I’m talking about their muses!!! ]
Let’s start with. The biggest bit of info. She’s Obito’s younger sister and was practically raised by him for the first couple of years of her life until Minato goes ‘alright, I can’t let these kids live like this and adopts her and takes her in. she’s 5 years younger than her brother.
She oftens watches Rin, Obito and Kakashi’s training!!! And likes hanging out with them outside of the training as well!!!
Girl is devastated when learning about her brother’s ‘death’ and gets genuinely upset whenever someone talks about it as if he died like a true shinobi. rip anyone who dares to do it because she will bite.
When she starts her own training, she’s put in a team together with Makio and Hinatsuru and eventually the three fall in love and start dating. at some point they also meet Tengen, who has had a different and much more extreme training and fall for him as well and he falls for them and BOOM. all four of them are dating.
after Minato and Kushina’s death, she proceeds to take care of Naruto just like how Obito took care of her.
the massacre happens and she is one of the two survivors together with Sasuke. she’s knocked out at the start by her own brother, recognizing him right before she passes out.
she starts claiming that she believes Obito is alive, to with the majority of the village responds that she’s a fool-- and they even start treating her like one.
it all becomes too much and she and her partners choose to leave the village. of course, she makes sure Naruto is save first and promises to keep contact through letters. she joins the demon slayer corps with her partners and starts fighting and slaying demons together with them.
the red light district arc happens etc etc etc. and the couple retires after the demon siblings are defeated.
a few more peaceful months pass by until the final battle against Muzan starts. upset because she’s tired of losing people, she awakens her sharingan and runs into the battle. she survives but definitely not without injury.
Several more peaceful years pass by until she learns about the war and who is involved and once again chooses to take a break from her retirement and joins in as well, to do what she can.

Catsuke AU HCs/ideas for the taking!
The last Uchiha disappears from the village because the ninja cats took him to the further safety of their clowder.
Possibly all the kids were taken into the clowder and what was killed by Itachi was elaborate substitutes.
Itachi planned that out with the elder shinobi cats because they made way more sense and were more rational than the humans. Ita would totally just stab the adults and continue on as if nothing had happened if he could get away with it.
Shisui lives and all the Sharingan left in the massacre are also elaborate fakes. shinobi cat mystical sage art stuff going on to make them.
Danzo can’t help but feel like he’s got eyes on him (intentional pun) because there is always a ‘random straying cat’ watching. waiting. playing the long game.
Possible Shisui and Itachi being the only ‘adults’ means we’re getting some chaotically weird ass feral Uchiha kids, here. esp of Itachi takes the undercover mission into the akatsuki to keep watch on that threat and leaves Shisui in charge as the eldest adult in his stead (human teachings wise, as they all know they for sure are kittens still to the cats of the clan).
Feral Gremlin Uchiha Cat Children coming across Naruto who went hiding and dragging him along back home. He is One Of Them™︎. They know it deep down.
Shisui recognizing the Uzumaki kit and begins the stories of Kushina. And Minato, too, but Kushina was like. So much more Badass™︎ aka full of Wild Energy™︎.
You ever had the thought Team Shisui was to be feared? Well, now he’s helping to Raise the human party’s if the clowder. The Chaos Level just jumped tf up.
Younger the saved Uchiha the more cat-like they are in traits.
Imagine Sasuke holding a younger cousin by their scruff and growling/hissing a warning for their bad behavior.
Shisui teaching the kids the basics of chakra and then letting them loose in the Uchiha Library to find something and go nuts with. Which is how Naruto finds the Shadow Clone technique and Sasuke finds some obscure soulmate jutsu and looks to Naruto before pocketing it and moving onto finding something more arson-y.
Hey. Naruto’s the only one not related around and he is Keeping Him. Just look at him! He’s perfect. (The orange, which is toned down because of early Uchiha intervention, is obviously tiger like in ways of camouflage. His future mate is stealthy as fuck, after all.)
Did these ideas just turn SasuNaru in two points? Yes. Yes they did.
One look at his little cousin trying to court Naruto and Shisui is halfway amused and halfway chuckling because he’s in danger. He can feel Itachi death glaring him with Protective Brother Instincts™︎ all the way from Ame.
The amusement wins out because he is a Chaotic Gremlin Cat at heart, too.
Plus, Ita always likes Kushina and now he’s going to be related to her in the future. Win-win, as far as Shisui’s concerned.
I… may of had more but I am very tired, hungry qnd allwey making way too many typos to keep up with. Sorry for those!
❤︎ Grae
Look no all of these are perfect and I hope cat!Anon uses a bunch cause I might just have to work some into my own AUs

Have you seen those fics where basically if "characters react to their show"? It's pretty fun the crazier the show is lol XD can you imagine the cast of Naruto starting from episode one, watching the entirety of Naruto in one huge cinema where they have to deal with each other (violence is not allowed lol) and there's like 30 minute breaks each season to recover from what the fuck just happened, Can you imagine them reacting to the plot twists? XD Sasuke and Itachi having to sit there as the uchiha massacre flashbacks happen dozens of times- layers of added confusing details as time goes on- itachi's death- and until finally danzo's involvement of it all, the drama jesus christ XD I'd love to see episode-one-Kid!Naruto reacting to meeting Kushina and her last words to him when she was dying T.T imagine how uncomfortable Hiruzen would be lol, Sakura seeing her personal growth rand realizing she can do so much more would be astonishing 😭😭
Of course noone would be as uncomfortable as Kakashi over at the corner XD he's just there at the beginning, trying to keep cool, surely they aren't actually going to show everythin- aaand they are. shit. Sakumo, Team Minato, his nightmares and guilt all out in the open. i mean at least he's not alone with everyone's personal laundry hanging out and about awkwardly in the air but still-
(all hell breaks loose once the tobi situation comes around but honestly too many things and reveals have happened already and almost everyone is numb as shit to it now, not really of course but close, as if- yep just think of the worst case scenario and- yeah. it'll probably happen except ten times worse)
Imagine them making guesses/theories about what would happen though. Like, Naruto screaming he’s going to become Hokage at the end. Even betting he’ll be Hokage after Tsunadr and absolutely losing his kind when Kakashi’s named Hokage before him XD
Imagine Ino screaming at Sakura from across the room when the first shippuden episode starts playing ‘get over Sasuke and date me instead!” While Asuma falls over cackling
Or Shikamaru, Choji and Ino realizing their parents die (choza comes back but Choji still see’s his dead body and that’s probably an image that sticks with him forever)
Kakashi just wanting to sink into the floor when Kakashi gaiden starts playing because this is no longer just flashes of his life. This is his life being laid out in the open for everyone and he is not doing ok.

What are the villain origin stories you can see?
Well, outside from some crack-ish idea (the one I posted about clan head Shisui killing the Elders wouldn't really happen, it was just fun to think about) so far I think I only have three AUs where Shisui is honestly a villain:
The first one is an Akatsuki AU where Itachi dies protecting him from Danzō. Obito, witnessing it all happen, approaches Shisui with promises of a better world, one where Itachi would be able to live again and be happy, and Shisui, clutching Itachi's lifeless body against his chest, thinking of all the times the village, the clan and everyone else has let them down, decides to join the Akatsuki to help Obito achieve the Tsuki no Me;
The second one is also an Akatsuki AU, where Obito watches as Shisui (who I hc being his younger brother) has to grow up alone after Obito's supposed death, and after Shisui awakens the Mangekyō and no one steps in to help him through this traumatizing experience, Obito simply decides to take him away from the village. Mikoto sees this happening while she's going with Itachi to the graveyard to pay her respects to Minato and Kushina's graves, she sees little Shisui and (masked, unrecognizable) Obito standing in front of the Memorial stone and she isn't fast enough to reach Shisui before he gets taken away with the Kamui
Years later, after so much time passed with an Obito who was manipulated and molded by Madara and Zetsu, Shisui has completely embraced the Tsuki no Me plan and while Obito uses Madara's name for himself, he uses Izuna's name as a placeholder until his identity is revealed during the Fourth War.
The massacre never happens in this AU, because the Uchiha clan joins forces with the Hokage and the Inuzuka to try and find Shisui even years after he got kidnapped, and by doing so they slowly mend their bond with the village, and during the war Shisui listens in disgust as Mikoto tells him about how much they tried to find and save him, while Shisui tells her that they never cared about him and only about his power, otherwise, clearly, a ten years old boy who just watched his best friend die and awakened the most traumatizing version of the Sharingan wouldn't have been congratulated on the 'achievement' and would have been helped and treated like the kid he was instead of a weapon to use;
The third and last AU is a Mokuton AU where Danzō approaches Shisui after he awakens the Mangekyō and promises him to help him, using his old friendship with Kagami as an excuse, saying how much he loved his friend and how much Kagami would hate him if he let his descendant alone in such a time of need. Shisui, alone and a kid and scared of how fast Fugaku is pushing to make him take the Chunin exams now that he got 'stronger' thanks to the Mangekyō, immediately trusts Danzō on his words and is coerced into joining ROOT and getting experimented on with Hashirama's cells.
Fast forward a handful of years, Shisui is completely loyal to Danzō, the only person who ever even remotely showed him any kind of affection (no matter how toxic it was), actively working from within the Uchiha clan to make things even worse, using his Mangekyō to convince Itachi to kill off the clan and trying to manipulate Sasuke into ROOT just like Danzō did with him. However, he fails, and after Sasuke kills off Danzō he takes up the position as the new ROOT leader and undermines Konoha from the inside, going as far as to try and brainwash Tsunade (but either Ao or a Hyūga catch onto it) and then trying to kill her when that doesn't work.
He purposefully orders every single ROOT operatives to not partecipate to the war and not give their aid to the Shinobi Alliance, and after the war has finished he gets banned from Konoha and branded as a traitor, and while most of ROOT comes with him (Shisui having used Kotoamatsukami on them to make sure that they'll never betray him), he still has some spies inside the village. Most of his hatred is for Sasuke because he killed Danzō, but he also has it for the village as a whole because they never understood Danzō's greatness and never understood his actions, with Homura and Koharu being the only two exception since they always were on Danzō's side. And yet, despite hating the village, Shisui wants to rule over it because that's what Danzō wanted, and his only wish is for Danzō's dream to live on.
When he was around thirteen he used a kunai to carve Danzō's name into his left hip while actively holding the Mokuton's healing factor back just to show him how much loyal he was to him. He still has the scar.

So long, good luck, goodbye
Sad girl hours today made me think of an AU with my OC when she does not leave the village after Obito dies and instead stays and dies in the Uchiha massacre. Kakashi finds her dead.
Kakashi found her on the steps of her family home. Somebody had covered her head with a white towel and carefully placed her down, both arms straight down her sides. It was completely different to the other dead that lay scattered throughout the Uchiha compound. For some reason, whoever killed her, had made an effort for her.
He fell onto his knees right beside her, fingers grabbing and clutching a still, cold hand. Just yesterday he had seen her briefly, walking by on her way to the academy. She was supposed to be an instructor soon at first only at the school and then eventually with her own team. She had joked about the book series he had recently started reading - a series of romance novels- and he had told her off. Now she was dead. Slaughtered on the steps of her own house.
Too late again, he thought. Too damn late. The red string through Kakashi’s life had always been his failure to protect the ones he cared about. Obito, Rin, Minato, his father and now Sayuri too. A row of dead corpses at his feet.
Her wounds were visible all over her arms. Clearly she had defended herself against something heavy and made of metal. Maybe chains. Kakashi ran his fingers over the bruises. Sayuri would have never gone down without a tough fight. She probably fought tooth and nail against her attacker.
Now that he moved her the towel stlipped from her head exposing her wide opened, dead black eyes. Her hair was unbraided and spread out under her back. Maybe she’d just come out of the bath when the attacker came to their house and she had no time to braid it. He picked up a strand of her hair, spinning it around his finger, the way he had done sometimes, but it felt empty and hollow.
He could feel his head spinning at the look of her. A sharp pain stabbing at his heart, choking him up until he felt like he was drowning without any water. There was no air to breathe. The pain was strangling him to death. An ache he was too familiar with. He’d felt it too many times.
Memories started flooding his mind like a sudden rainfall. The anger in her eyes when he had told her that Obito had died. The night they had spent sleeping next to each other after what had happened to Rin. The worried look on her face when he became ANBU. “Are you sure this is for you?” The day of the fox attack when she’d been with Gai and him, unable to help the village. When she cried at Minato’s funeral for him because she knew he couldn’t himself.
The many nights she had stayed at his place, face next to his feet in his bed, when her family became too much or his nightmares kept him awake. That time he’d first noticed that she’d grown up. Curves and hair and that wild look on her face. “That Tenzo one is in love with you, you know that right?” Maybe they’d been something, someday, in a different time and place. But not this one.
If only Sayuri had been with him last night. If he had invited her over for ramen and a beer, she might still be alive. It would have been so easy to call her in, keep her safe. Now he had broken all his promises to Obito. Neither Rin nor Sayuri had survived.
He wanted to cry. Grief pulling and ripping him apart from the inside out, but he couldn’t. Kakashi had been here before. Crouched next to the dead corpse of a person he loved. Too late to help. He’d cried himself empty in younger years.
“Senpai”, a soft hand placed itself on his shoulder. He almost jerked away from it. “Tenzo”, Kakashi breathed without looking around. “I think you should let her go now”, Tenzo said, softly stroking his fingers over Kakashi’s shoulder. “ANBU operatives are collecting the corpses to prepare them for a funeral.”
Kakashi clutched Sayuri's hand even tighter to himself. “Why was ANBU not called?” he asked, feeling anger bubble up from his core. “I thought they had eyes on the Uchiha clan at all times.” He moved his eyes back to look at hers. Void of everything he had liked about them. No longer wild, angry or worried, just a lightless hole. “I think you know why,” Tenzo said finally.
“So I will not give her over to them, I will do it myself.” He got up, pulling her lifeless body up. Her head tilted back, spreading her hair all over his arms. He strained his muscles against her.  “I’m not going to let Danzo have her eyes.”

So does Kishi officially hate NH and SS? Because I can't help but think like that when I see them in Boruto. Like no way he wants them to be seen as happy or content. Also, it seems like he still hates Sakura because just just look at her, she hasn't really changed. Her dynamic with Sasuke hasn't really changed. She gives chase, Sasuke ignores. Except Sasuke looks more depressed.
Hey, after fifteen years of us chasing after the story and characters we invested in so much, at least give us some indication that they are least happy after sooo many sacrifices, like they deserve that happiness.
But no, if anything, they seem totally miserable. What made Kishi do that? Yes, he can't show them ooc, but Sasuke marrying Sakura is already ooc. Naruto being a bad father is already ooc. Like why go to the extent of showing Sasuke trying not to touch Sakura and pointedly showing that they never kissed? That's just like a determined effort on Kishi's part to show that their marriage is not working. Naruto works way more than any of his predecessors and sleeps in the office or couch so as not to disturb Hinata, when Hinata is specifically designed to accommodate anything that Naruto might require.
Don't get me wrong, I think Boruto is trash. But I am still in interested in SNS in Boruto because that's still canon. Just makes me wonder how Kishi will finally conclude SNS, because their bond still shows clearly in Boruto. Do you think he will kill them any time soon?
Good ask, Anon☺️☺️❤️❤️
Before answering this, I am going to tell you that I don’t watch Boruto. But I know what happened so far, vaguely. Like, Gaiden arc, Karma seal, Kawaki adoption, Kurama’s death, loss of Rinnegan, Time travel arc. Anyways, I might have missed many interactions between Sasuke & Sakura in the filler episodes or other canonical episodes. I would be happy If you send me an episode list or timestamps in where they interact, so that it saves my time instead of me, watching that entire shit show.
So does Kishi officially hate NH and SS?
In this post, I dissected SS from a non-SNS perspective. It seems Kishi went all out of his way to make their interactions too insincere, blunt and toxic. I mean Sasuke’s absolute lack of interest in her was very evident even until chapter 693. That is right before, their final VoTE fight. And even after Sakura comes to heal their injuries, he just said ‘Ummmm..... I guess Sorry’...
Kishi could have made Sasuke say some corny shit to Sakura like how he felt bad inside for hurting her, how he missed her, wiping her tears or whatever (Puke!!!! 🤮🤮🤮). Because in the previous chapter, Sasuke basically confessed to Naruto internally about how he felt about Naruto when he was a child. Kishi could have done the same for Sakura in just 4, 5 panels. But anyways, my point is, Kishi’s moment to salvage that ship is chapter 699.
But he didn’t.
Did Kishi tried to build their bond after marriage?
He definitely could’ve. But he didn’t.
This shows his clear distaste in SS.
As for NH, Kishi is indifferent. He neither hates them nor loves them. Kishi created Hinata as a pairing fodder and she still is.
Also, it seems like he still hates Sakura because just just look at her, she hasn't really changed. Her dynamic with Sasuke hasn't really changed. She gives chase, Sasuke ignores. Except Sasuke looks more depressed.
Hmmm, I don’t know whether Sasuke hates her, anon. Again, maybe I’ve missed those parts. But when he looks at her, it’s always filled with regrets and an urge to avoid her (like Itachi avoided Sasuke, but for totally sad and genuine reasons).
But this again begs the question, ‘Why feeling regret or hesitant even after 12 years?’.
Believe me anon, Love/Bonds/Understanding can happen at anytime of your life. From where I come from, not everyone marries out of love. Arranged marriages are common. But still, many couples make effort and work out their difference, and find love. Kishi could’ve done the same for SS too.
Is Sasuke that heartless? No.
He was once a boy who bear hugged his brother every time Itachi comes back from the Academy. Itachi’s presence itself made Sasuke so happy.
Did he become heartless after the massacre? Also no.
Even after the trauma, Sasuke just became aloof and cold. But he always becomes a child who can pout, be silly, becomes animated, bicker around Naruto. So, he can be lovely, but only around the people he choose by himself.
Still, Sakura is not that person. So, he looks like he is depressed and wants to escape from her at any given chance because of a certain guilt.
To answer, this goes way back, anon.
Kishi is a person who prefers to write love through intense friendship, sensei-student dynamics and brotherhood. He can occasionally write cute and sweet romance but it can only be short like 2 or 3 pages... or a chapter, max. He can’t go on doing it for 70 chapters for romance. Which was evident from Minato & Kushina, Dan & Tsunade, Obito & Rin.
But the real deal of Naruto manga is the bond between Naruto and Sasuke. The bond between Itachi and Sasuke also played a huge role in this series. And then comes Hashirama and Madara, Jiraiya and Naruto, Kakshi and Obito, Kakashi and Naruto and many more. So, Kishi pretty much gave an ending he wanted for a long time in chapter 699. He successively pulled off a great manga without corny and shitty romance but with just friendship and brotherhood alone. He didn’t give two shits about NH or SS before chapter 700.
Naruto series’ another success lies on it’s characters tragic backstories. I simply loved them all and most of them made me cry.
Kishi wanted to move on from Naruto.
But then Money played a big part. Naruto series can be milked in a lot of ways. Editors wanted all the characters to become some baby making dolls. So you have to create pairings. Based on the popularity polls, they decided NH and SS.
In my opinion, Sasuke is a goal-oriented person. He is a wanderer who works on his own accords. Ever since he left Konoha when he was 13, that was his path, so you can’t make him stay in one place. At every stage of his life, he had different goals.
At age 8-15, he had one goal. To kill Itachi. Can he have a romance here? Nope.
At age 16, his goal is to destroy Konoha. No chance of romance in that dark path.
At age 17, he wanted to Revolutionize the shinobi system. Since he wanted to be alone for that goal, no possibility of romance.
At age 18, he adopted Naruto’s dream as his own. To make all shinobi cooperate and look out for Kaguya remains. Romance cannot happen here as he was constantly wandering around and he prefers to work alone.
This is how Kishi designed Sasuke’s character throughout.
Now all of a sudden, if you ask Kishi to go OOC by asking him to write corny romance for his favorite character Sasuke just for the sake of making him relevant to Boruto series, what will he do?
Since Boruto is a series which is a sequel to Naruto, you pretty much know everyone’s backstory. Those 12 year old New Gen kids possibly can’t have tragic stories like Naruto or Sasuke.
Kishi being a troller, used this opportunity to create a piss poor sob story for Sarada by making Sasuke as an absentee father and an unloving husband.
He created a sad story for Sarada and he gets to shit on SS ship. Two birds, One stone!!!!
Now, Sasuke being an unloving husband is OOC ? Nope. He was never a marriage material in the first place. So he is perfectly in-character.
Sasuke being an absentee father is OOC? No and Yes. No, because it’s the effect of the cause I mentioned above. Yes, because unlike Naruto, Sasuke once had a father. He can try to reach her out now and often. but he prefers not to do instead he cares more about Boruto. LOL.
Sasuke being not family oriented is OOC? Nope. He is a goal oriented person. His goal is same as Naruto’s dream. He will go to any extent to fulfill it, even at the expense of his family’s happiness. Because that’s what he learnt from Itachi. What Itachi taught him was, even at the expense of his own happiness and Sasuke’s trauma, he preferred Konoha and Shinobi World’s peace. That’s what Sasuke is doing now.
Naruto works way more than any of his predecessors and sleeps in the office or couch so as not to disturb Hinata, when Hinata is specifically designed to accommodate anything that Naruto might require.
As for Naruto,
I think it’s very funny. And I guess, I know why.
Just like Sasuke, Naruto is also a goal oriented person.
Remember, in that Boruto movie, Sasuke knocks Naruto’s door at the midnight?
Imagine if Naruto opened the door.
Sasuke will be like, ‘Alright mothafucka!!! I wanted to die in the VoTE itself. You wanted me in your dream world. Am working my ass off for your stupid dreams and trying to reach you without even meeting my own family. And yet here you are, sleeping well and sound. Am just gonna Chidori you!!!’ LOL.
I think you get my point.
If you make Sasuke to be an hardworker, then Naruto must work even hard to fulfill his dream. So you possibly can’t have Naruto playing duet with Himata or whatever trash.
So kishi pulled his Two birds, One Stone for NH here!!!
In short, Kishi gets to make his New generation shine through this pathetic sob stories and at the same time, kept his favorite characters without going OOC.
So, it’s a polite way of Kishi showing middlefinger to SS and NH for making him do this. He is saying, ‘Alright folks, you wanted this all along. But this is what you will get!!!’.
Just makes me wonder how Kishi will finally conclude SNS, because their bond still shows clearly in Boruto. Do you think he will kill them any time soon?
I think about this all the time. How will they end?? How will they die??
Now, don’t think I am some sadist for wanting them to die. I am just being practical and honest here. This is a new generation series. Of course, at some point, Naruto and Sasuke has to die for the sake of character development. And I will be happy if they die because I don’t like their miserable portrayal in Boruto at all.
Naruto series has a pattern when it comes to death portrayal. Meaningful characters (except Neji) always die protecting someone/something they cherish. Jiraiya died for Naruto, Yahiko died for Konan & Nagato, Itachi died for Sasuke & Konoha, Haku died for Zabuza, Obito (younger) died for Kakashi & Rin and so on.
Ever since Naruto became Hokage, his death is pretty much plastered on his head. He will die protecting Konoha just like all the Hokages from First to Fourth who sacrificed their life for Konoha.
But Sasuke???
I am going to say he will die protecting Naruto or the village. But for Naruto mostly. Either way, Sasuke will die first.
Dying for Naruto, the reasons are crystal clear. He already died protecting Naruto once in the Zabuza arc. He will never hesitate to do it again. Which was evident from the way he told Naruto in the Boruto movie while giving his Susanoo, ‘If they capture the real you, then everything is gone’. Somewhere in Boruto Manga chapter 38 (I don’t remember properly), Sasuke was yelling at Naruto, ‘If you are gone, it’s pretty hopeless’ and was praying ‘Naruto, don’t you die’.
So it’s pretty much Sasuke saying to Naruto, ‘I’ll protect you, You protect everyone’
But why the village?? Why will Sasuke die for Konoha which caused him so much pain?? I know anti-konoha stans wont like this, but that’s the reality.
It seems many Sasuke fans never paid attention to his character. After hearing the story from all the Hokages, Sasuke said, ‘I will not let Itachi’s life and this village into nothing’. He really meant it. Because for Sasuke, Itachi was more precious. Itachi died saying, ‘I’ll have protected my village as Uchiha Itachi of Konoha once again. I have no more regrets’. Sasuke wanted to respect his brother’s wish finally and that’s why he openly claimed in the battlefield, ‘I am going to protect Konoha and become it’s Hokage’. Sasuke’s another precious person is Naruto. He is the Hokage now.
Don’t you think Sasuke will die protecting something Itachi and Naruto values so much??
He even claimed it openly in Boruto Manga. ‘I would die anytime for Konoha, as has your dad (Naruto)’
Sasuke even said to Boruto, “I will stop you even if I have to kill you”. And do you think Sasuke is just pouring out some empty words??? Sasuke will not let Boruto to turn into an Otsutsuki monster and destroy the village.
Like I said, Sasuke will go out first. And eventually Naruto will follow him. Or they both die protecting the village together. I don’t see them dying for their wives or children. Because, their relationship with their family is not too strong and their ambitions are far beyond their own families.
Maybe for this reason, Kishi is trolling NH and SS in Boruto. LOL.
Naruto’s bond with Sasuke was formed even before his birth, when Kushina asked the 3 month old Baby Sasuke to be friends with Naruto.
However, One thing is for sure. One will not live very long without the Other or Both will die together. That’s how their bond should end.

How to you do with changing canon things or the whole plot in your dr? For example, I’m going for a Naruto Reality but I’m thinking about having no Uchiha Massacre, what do you think of that?
[thank you for this ask!]
well, i sorted out the timeline by generation.
the ōtsutsuki (kaguya, the twins, indra & asura) + the tailed beasts
warring states—pre-founders (tajima, butsuma, etc.)
founders
the 'boomers' (hiruzen, danzō, kagami, etc.) [i couldn't think of another name for them, lmao]
the sannin's gen. (dan, dai, sakumo, etc.)
middle-aged adults (minato, shikaku, etc.)
kakashi's gen.
the main cast
for your first question, well, i didn't really change much of the plot, only the more major points. these include: the uchiha massacre, the senju’s extinction, and uzushio's downfall.
regarding the uchiha’s, i simply scripted the whole isolation and slaughter thing out entirely. some of them’ll still be uptight assholes, as is usually portrayed in both canon and fanon, but they’ll live. I’m not the biggest sasuke fan, nor do i dislike him too much, but i do think he didn’t deserve the torturous shit he received.
as for the senju—I’m definitely not happy with how their clan just...i don’t know, disappeared? what happened to them after hashirama passed away? surely, tsunade couldn’t be the only one left. I’m not buying that. i also scripted that itama survived; i mentioned it in a previous post that i managed to save him at some point, preventing his death, and goes on to awaken the mokuton. what he does with his adult years is entirely up to him, and I’ve yet to see what happened to him in my DR.
on the matter of uzushiogakure; i didn’t script out the attack on the village, but i did put that konoha was able to send reinforcements just a little bit ealier than what happened in canon, and that more citizens escaped. most are probably still scattered across the elemental nations, but some decided to seek sanctuary in konoha. it’s not just limited to the uzumaki clan, either.
regarding your second question, well, go for it. I’ve already mentioned my take on it in my DR earlier. the kyūbi attack does still happen, but the dislike towards their clan isn’t as bad. i plan to have itama live at least until after the attack, and with what i scripted for him, he should be able to do some major damage control. I’m genuinely curious on what could’ve happened if itachi didn’t go nukenin, and if shisui survived.
those are the only things that i really changed. obito’s still tobi, and naruto’s most likely staying with someone from uzushio. i think itama would petition to up the standards of the academy, though.
see—the reason why i sound uncertain on some points is that my DR self, kyō, isn’t actually present for most of the plot.
initially, i wanted to incorporate some ATLA details, as i had been too lazy to actually make another DR script for that. so i tried compensating by utilising elemental bending in naruto instead. that, and i scripted pulling off an aang/steve rogers; meaning i would’ve been trapped in ice for decades, until someone found me. I’m not going to elaborate much on that, as I’m still kind of uncomfortable with sharing why i scripted it in, but it does have something to do with zetsu. my DR self is around the same age as the founders, exactly the same as itama’s. i am/kyō is found during the time when the uchiha massacre should’ve happened. one thing about my DR self is that I’m presumed dead before konoha was even founded, so i really shouldn’t have a reason to know about what happens after i ‘die’.
[i am very aware that having that in my script sounds weird, but i really want to know what it’s like to be encased in ice for almost 100 years].
i just changed some major plot points that i wanted, and left other details to fit according to the mercy of my subconscious. i mean, it’s the one that’s going to decide the things i desire, and i just wish to be surprised, is all. i also plan on having no romantic entanglements in this DR, mostly just adventure. this is one of my what-if’s DR’s, and i have another one dedicated for romance.
thank you for this ask anon!! ❤️

Illusions
(Yayyyy. Another one. It’s been a while, sorry. just wanna preface this by saying that like... I usually don’t really give a shit about Obito, but I figured this was a natural progression of the story and I kinda wanted to try and dive into Obito’s psyche a little so. here we go. tell me what you think. @ghostjellyfishheart here’s the next chapter lol. pls mind the tw’s)
TW and CW for: MAJOR UNREALITY, seriously stay safe, Obito is kinda spiraling a lot, grieving, struggling with morality, drinking, alcohol, less then stellar coping mechanisms of all kinds, don’t do this kids, child death, ghost child, dead kid, you don’t like... see her die but Rin is very much not alive, references to suicide, implied suicide, the uchiha massacre is its own warning, murder, its bad. its just. its just bad. did I mention unreality? a lot of that, death of a family member, obito is having a hard time with feelings, probably dis@ssociation, pretentious symbolism, scratch that, definitely dis@ssociation
Obito Uchiha is upset.
And that is, frankly, ridiculous. Obito does not get upset. What does upset even mean? Is he sad? Mourning, perhaps? Or is he just worried? Either way, its borderline impossible. He shouldn’t be feeling anything. Obito doesn’t feel anything. Sure, he plays at it, when he’s Tobi. He feigns and pretends, he’s good at that. That is what he is, that is all he is. To Itachi, he is Madara. To Konan and Nagito, he is Obito. To everyone else, he is Tobi. Obito has taken on mask after mask after mask on in his life, both figuratively and literally. Sometimes he doesn't know where Obito ends and another begins. Obito does not feel anything, not for anyone that isn't Rin. Never for anyone that isn't Rin, and he left her behind a long time ago. And yet this boy, this child, has him reeling somehow. Has him… well, like before, the only word he can use is upset. He is rattled. And it has been so long, so long since he’s felt anything at all, that he doesn't know what to do. He doesn't know how to fix it. He kept seeing Sasuke in his head, kept remembering memories from years ago when he thought about the kid being gone forever. He remembered the first few years Itachi brought Sasuke to the compound, he remembered spontaneously discovering his obsession with tomatoes by accident with Kisame (who would not stop laughing. He had just never seen anybody. Put an entire tomato in their mouth. And Sasuke did it like it was the most natural thing in the world! Kisame wouldn't shut up about it for at least a week). He remembered helping the boy train with his newly forged chokuto, he remembered the grim determination towards his family and how much it reminded Obito of himself, he remembered all of it. And none of that should have mattered, because it wasn't real. None of it was real, the next world would be. The next world with Rin and Kakashi and Minato-sensei still alive, a world without… without Sasuke. Or any of the other Akatsuki. And that was what he wanted. He was sure that was what he wanted. Only in his room could he show the weakness tightly coiled in his stomach. But there was a knock on his door and it made him straighten up, instantly putting the mask that he just took off back on his face. He walked to the door and opened it, only to find the older Uchiha brother staring back at him. Obito blinked.
“Itachi-san. What are you… what are you doing here? I- uh… come in.” Obito and Itachi sat down at the small table in Obito’s room and stared at each other awkwardly. “So… how can I help you?” Obito tried to ask, unsure of whether to say it like Tobi or just let his guard down and talk like himself (whoever that was). Itachi cleared his throat.
“You are the only person in this godforsaken place that has sake that's worth a damn,” Itachi explained calmly. He looked away. “It has… been a long week.” Obito could tell the truth in that statement just from his cousin’s voice. Itachi sounded exhausted, and the perpetual mask of indifference had begun to slip when his little brother went missing. The two of them looked at each other and came to an understanding. For the next few minutes, there was no talking. Obito grabbed some glasses and poured his strongest sake out for the both of them, and they drank in silence. They only actually picked up a conversation once they were both drunk enough for the awkwardness to melt away.
“He’s likely not dead,” Obito commented bluntly. Itachi only sighed.
“If he is, I have no idea what I'd do,” Itachi grumbled casually, like it was an ordinary thing to say. “Certainly wouldn't stick around here. Probably follow in Shisui’s footsteps.” Obito only nodded, knowing better than to pry on that particular bit of insight into Itachi’s life. They were silent for a few more minutes before Obito spoke again.
“The massacre,” Obito started. “I was long gone by the time it happened. What… are you and Sasuke really the only survivors as the rumors say?” Itachi nodded, throwing back another glass. Obito thought about that bitterly, about his grandmother who wouldn't have been spared. Itachi sighed.
“Right. I've never really talked about this with anyone, and Sasuke and I don't speak about it much. You know how sharingan awakening works, yes?” Obito nodded, mind involuntarily flashing to his own experience.
“Well I made some genuine friends on my genin team. It was the first time I ever had any friends.” Obito closed his eyes and took another sip. Friends, sharingan awakening. Being crushed under a boulder with your crying teammates looming over you. Thinking, no, don't cry, it doesn't hurt. It really doesn't hurt. I can't feel anything, please don't cry. Watching a particular white haired individual (a traitor, that traitor) desperately try to save you. Losing a part of yourself, a part of yourself you didn't even know you had, and giving it to someone else. Forever living with that, knowing that your other eye is somewhere, because you can still feel it, but not knowing much else. The aching absence that grows from that. He opened his eyes again. “I watched them die, right in front of my eyes. That awakened my Sharingan, and when I went home, my father congratulated me. He congratulated me. It was a nightmare and he was proud. I don't know, that always stuck with me. But anyway,” Itachi paused to drink more sake as the room spun. “Sasuke’s eyes woke during the massacre. I didn't get there in time. He watched our parents die, managed to hide in the closet and keep quiet the whole time so they didn't find him. I got there in time to stop them from killing him, and realized his sharingan had awakened because of everything. I wasn't able to save anyone, but I was able to save him, and that's all that matters.”
“I understand,” Obito replied evenly. “I know what it's like to be too late.”
Itachi’s eyes slid over to him. “Yeah well… whatever. The Uchiha had been planning a coup for a while. Danzo, he gave me a choice. Either kill everyone myself and have Sasuke be spared to live happily in the village. Or, to let them kill everyone, Sasuke included. I didn't… I refused either option and tried to get there but I was too late. They killed everyone in one night, a bunch of Anbu who were deployed for the massacre. Like I said, Sasuke managed to hide. I knew that Danzo would be after us, so I grabbed Sasuke and we got the hell out of dodge. He didn't speak for months afterwards. Not a single word, other than screaming during his nightmares. It was probably a little selfish, but I… I missed him. There was no more ‘Itachi, look at the score I got at the academy!’ or ‘Itachi look, look I learned a new move!’ There was just… nothing. He was so vacant. If he's dead- if he’s dead after everything we’ve been through, I don't- I have no idea what I'll do. We have to find him, and we have to kill the people who took him away from us. We have to.” I know, he wanted to shout. I know, I feel the same way, but I don't know why! Itachi left not long after that, stumbled back to his room, and Obito fell asleep in his armchair. That night he had a dream, a dream of Rin. it had been years since he dreamed of her, usually they were memories and bits and pieces, but this was different. He opened his eyes in his dream to a dark plane filled with ink, darkness stretching in every direction. It was a frequent setting he found himself in, usually the dream would be about him sinking into the oily substance until he couldn't breath. But this time it was low enough to wade in, his feet touching the ground, whatever that was. In the middle of the expanse, there was a bone white skeleton of some creature he didn't recognize, and Rin. He staggered towards her, and she hugged him without a word. In dreams like this he was always covered in blood, the Obito from years past. But now he was just him, and he was maskless.
“Just what have you gotten yourself into now, Obito?” she asked, and it sounded just like her. It wasn't her, he was fairly sure of that, he was dreaming for god’s sake, but it sounded like her. It seemed like her, and that was enough. “It's okay to be worried about the kid,” she said, running fingers through his hair while he tried to calm his breathing.
“It's not real,” he managed hoarsely. “None of it. Nothing in this world is real, I shouldn't feel anything. So why… Why do I…”
“Does it matter if it's real?” she asked. “It feels real. Maybe it is, Obito.”
“Obito is dead,” he whispered. “At least the one you knew- Obito doesn't exist anymore.” Rin only shook her head, looking past him at nothing at all and smiling sadly.
“I don't believe you,” she said evenly. “You're still Obito. No matter how many names you take or how many masks you wear, I know who you are. And I think you do too.”
“It's not real,” he tried again, weakly.
“If it's not real, then why do you help Konan with the dishes? If it's not real, then why do you want to save Itachi’s brother so badly? Why do you make plans for Nagato’s dream in the supposed next world when you don't have to? Why do you stick around Deidara to make sure he doesn't get killed? Why do you help Sasori with his puppets? Why, Obito?”
“I can't be Obito,” he muttered quietly. “He’s dead. He died with you.”
“He is right here. He is sitting here with me. You're still you. You'll always be you.”
“B-But…. But Madara-”
“Madara is dead,” she said with finality, shaking her head. “Madara is a dead man now. You are the only thing that can bring him back, and you have a choice.”
“I've never had a choice.”
“You do now. Madara isn't here.”
“This is all just an illusion.” She smiled sadly.
“I'm an illusion, Obito. Your world is not.”
His dream didn't fade out from there. One second he was sitting in a dark dreamscape with his dead friend, and the next he was in the Akatsuki lair, laying in an armchair, sitting up and gasping for breath. His back hurt and his neck was aching from the weird position he dozed off in, and Obito could already feel the nausea of an inevitable hangover coming on. Still, he sat up properly, stretching his neck and running a hand through his short hair. Itachi was probably passed out in his room or throwing up already, and Obito had a hunch that he’d be feeling the same way pretty soon. He looked down at the floor and forced his eyes to focus. He didn't have time for a drunken hallucination within a drunken hallucination. But when he turned his head, he felt himself recoil and raise his hands to his face. The orange plastic from the ground winked back at him. Obito had taken his mask off. And now it was cracked.

KAKASHI & HIS TIMELINE. // DO NOT REBLOG.
trigger warnings: suicide, child soldiers, murder, depression.
age four:
starts the academy.
sakumo commits suicide a few weeks before kakashi graduates from the academy.
age five:
kakashi becomes a genin.
moves out of the compound into a really small apartment because he kept on getting flashbacks to when he found sakumo’s body.
enters an apprenticeship with minato ( who is seventeen ) because he was a family friend due to sakumo being close friends to jiraiya.
age six:
right after his sixth birthday, minato picks up two students from the academy ( obito and rin, both who are four years older than kakashi ).
takes the chūnin exams. becomes a chūnin ( battles and wins against gai in the prelims, who is two years older than him ).
continues to be a part of team seven, but he also occasionally runs solo missions.
age eight:
rin and obito finally make chūnin, but kakashi and minato sometimes run missions by themselves ( or together ) without them while they were genin.
age nine:
kakashi becomes jōnin a little after his ninth birthday.
the fateful kannabi bridge mission.
age ten:
a little bit after his tenth birthday, rin commits suicide via chidori.
kakashi is held for a few days in t&i due to the “suspicious” circumstances around rin’s death.
kakashi joins anbu a few months after.
age eleven:
kakashi is ordered to protect kushina during her pregnancy.
age twelve:
the kyūbi attack. minato and kushina die.
kakashi really goes into anbu shit. starts running a fuckton of dark and classified missions.
age fifteen:
becomes anbu captain ( the youngest until itachi at thirteen ).
age eighteen:
his team at this point is tenzō ( one year younger ), yūgao ( two years younger ), and itachi ( seven years younger ).
is kind of darkly amused that they’re “team anbu prodigy” since they’re all really young, even for anbu.
age twenty:
itachi becomes an anbu captain. soon after, the uchiha massacre happens.
kakashi is one of the anbu members who helps to “clean” the uchiha massacre.
kakashi is asked to retire from anbu due to his ten years of service, which is a pretty long time for sandaime’s service anbu. ( the sandaime’s protecting anbu runs differently and don’t really run missions since they’re just protection detail, while danzō’s root anbu are essentially in it for life ).
becomes a jōnin-sensei, but fails his first team. thus, continues running missions, but usually b-ranks so he can adjust to jōnin life.
age twenty-four:
gets team 7, and the rest is history.

BNHA/Naruto reincarnation au
Ok ok so the trope is that one character is reincarnated into another world, either as another character or as a new insert in the world right?  I had a kind of cracky idea for this one.
It’s a bit long but basically a ton of characters from My Hero die during the War arc and are reincarnated as Naruto characters, which changes canon timeline but not a ton at first because they all think they’re the only one. Like, literally Minato is All Might, Aizawa is Kakashi - Team 7 is Izuku (Naruto - trust me I know it’s weird, but nearly-adult Izuku in a child’s body is here to cause problems on purpose), Bakugou (Sakura - the temper and eventually the ability to smash boulders? Yes. I know Naruto and Sakura could be flipped but I have Reasons), and Todoroki (Sasuke - evil older brother, fire stuff, kinda stoic) - there’s more under the cut because I don’t have the energy to write an actual entire fic but I need to put it down. Maybe at some point I’ll write the rest.
Yagi thought it was a dream for a while.  Thought it was a nightmare, some days - but being Namikaze Minato was oddly satisfying in that he earned every bit of his power along the way.  He was proud of it, the strength and speed and intellect. The only person he ever told about his old world was Kushina - and she believed him.  His heart ached when his team fought and died and fought more - he tried to reach Kakashi in his grief, but the boy wasn’t happy.
Aizawa doesn’t tell a soul that he’s someone else, that he’s a fraud, not a genius.  He doesn’t dare make a friend in Obito or Rin, still aching because all he can think is Mic and Oboro and his fucking class all gone.  Minato’s sunny smiles in the midst of being a deadly destroyer of armies makes him think of All Might and Izuku, the heroes, the best of them.  It hurts when it’s all taken away, and he uses his knowledge of how not to strain eye-related powers to cover his Sharingan when not in use and dives into ANBU to avoid thinking too hard about everything.
Touya aches. He’s a genius of his clan, blew his first fireball so hot that it charred his throat for a week and glowed blue-white instead of red. This world doesn’t leave him burned beyond repair, and killing isn’t what makes a villain - but he still becomes one, for his little brother’s sake, because while Fuyumi, Natsuo, and Shouto are gone, he still has Sasuke. (Another suicide mission fueled by revenge - only this time it’s him that has to die in the end, not his father.)  Itachi’s new flames are black, not blue.
Hawks is tired of lies.  So tired of being loyal to a system that’s full of false promises.  He might be a shark instead of a bird now, but he still flies the coop and joins up with a group that comfortably reminds him of the League.
Izuku grieves everyone - of course he does - in the quiet of his little apartment. He’s reminded again and again of the fact that he’s different for whatever reason.  This time, instead of crying, he shouts - he laughs - he pranks the shit out of everyone to just be noticed for something that’s actually under his control.  If he can’t be the #1 hero, then dammit he’ll be Hokage - the strongest leader he can manage to be.
Katsuki doesn’t know what the fuck to do. One, he’s become a girl - gender didn’t really matter all that much to him compared to strength and intelligence before, but it was still weird. What frustrated her more was his lack of quirk - explosions had defined Bakugou for so long that frankly, she was still going to research Iwa’s explosion corps and do something about that to add to her repertoire. Somewhere along the line Ino attached to her like the limpet Kirishima and Mina always had - getting up in her personal space without caring one way or another, understanding when she refused to speak, encouraging her temper every once in a while. The one annoying thing is that Ino interpreted her need to get stronger than the current projected Rookie of the Year as a crush.  Which - no. Sasuke was objectively good looking for a kid, but he was also intellectually a hell of a lot younger than Katsuki-Sakura, and he always uncomfortably reminded her of Todoroki.
Shouto thrives at first - glad not to be the only one with expectations, even if he winces at the idea of an older brother shouldering so much responsibility.  He lives for having an older brother to look up to, to get close to.  He’s a little miffed that his clan’s specialty is fire-based, but hey, at least his father doesn’t expect him to be his successor - until he does. Until Itachi starts going on more and more missions, poking his forehead and saying “Another time, little brother,” more and more often. And then the massacre happens, and Sasuke wonders why he ever trusted that things would be so stable and ok.  He’s going to get strong, drag Itachi kicking and screaming back to Konoha, and rip his eyes out so he never does that again.
...
Kakashi is late again. Sasuke was more irritable than usual - after Wave, their sensei had promised to help him learn the Ice Release that Haku had done, and he’d really wanted to have that in his arsenal to have something more familiar. Sakura and Naruto had begun sparring in their boredom, and in the middle of it, Naruto slipped and hit one of Sakura’s sore spots from the mission.  She snarled.
“Fucking deku, what the hell!” she said.
Naruto yelped and fell forward, following through too far on a punch, eyes wide.  Sasuke stared, blinking.
“Interesting,” said Kakashi’s voice behind them.  Sasuke was staring at Sakura in shock, and Naruto looked like he was staring at a ghost.  Sakura’s cheeks were turning pink.
“What are you looking at me like that for?!” she demanded.
“Problem children,” Kakashi said.  All three faces whipped to face him, mouths gaping, eyes wide.
“ . . . Aizawa-sensei?” asked Shouto quietly.
“What?” demanded Bakugou.  “All of us?  Who the fuck are-Icy-hot? Deku?”
“Kacchan!” Izuku’s expression on Naruto’s features was - well.  Kakashi cursed inwardly - had things gone well, fuck, he’d be the kid’s older brother figure.  This wouldn’t have gone this far.  But the elation of not being alone was too much, even with that sting of he was right in front of me and I did nothing.
“If we’re all back here,” Sasuke said quietly, “Who else might be?”
“Well, this changes things for us, but not for anyone else,” Kakashi explained.  “As far as the world knows, we’re the same as we’ve always been.  However, you studying Iwa explosion tactics and you wanting to learn ice release jutsus makes a lot more sense now.”
. . .
Gaara had always had it in him to destroy.  From dust to sand to death - it was all the same.  The Ichibi raging against a jagged seal had only exacerbated an already damaged mind, one that couldn’t handle the empty space where All for One used to be. Instead stood rage.
Yashamaru had helped, for a while. Gaara had almost even considered telling his greatest secret to his siblings - that he was once a terrible monster of a human, Shigaraki - but his uncle’s death shattered that thought quite thoroughly.  That was all it took to turn him once again into a monster, until a kid with another tailed beast inside him raged against his pain hard enough to scrape at his most protected secret: He didn’t want to be a monster or a villain.
Naruto had that blinding smile as he fought he’d only seen a few times before - on Midoriya Izuku.
. . .
When Itachi next faced Sasuke, he had expected pain and rage.
Instead, his little brother created a prison of ice mirrors, Sharingan flashing as he finished the sequence of signs.  His teammates screamed from outside the dome, and Itachi grimaced as he readied a stance - when had Sasuke learned anything about ice?  Why would he -
“You’re going to give me answers, aniki,” he said.  “One of which is this: Touya, what the hell?”
Itachi stared.  And stared.
“You-Shouto?”
“Apologies for not having the hair dye remover and livestream set up, but yes,” he replied.
. . .
Shikamaru was . . . well.  He wasn’t an idiot.  Talking about reincarnation and heroes and another life was a way to get a trip to T&I and never leave.  It didn’t mean he didn’t use his skills - Aizawa would be proud of how lazy his son had gotten in his next life, he bet.
So when he saw Team Seven act a lot differently at the beginning of the chunin exams than he recalled, he was on high alert to find out what was going on. Naruto had learned some level of volume control, Sakura had tempered whatever her issue with Sasuke was, and Sasuke had - not softened, but definitely cooled off.  Seemed more attentive to his teammates.
And Kakashi had certainly become more present, if the way they were presenting themselves with high-quality gear was any indication.
Chunin Exams, Sports Festival - didn’t matter, he was still going to prove himself. No matter the fact he didn’t have his quirk anymore, he still kept asking questions.
“Hey, Sakura.  Naruto. Sasuke. You ready for this?”
“We’re going to pass,” Sakura said. “No other option.”  He raised a brow.
“You sure about that?”
“Sakura-chan said it, so she means it,” said Naruto.  Sasuke nodded.
“What about you and your team?”
“Well, it’d be a drag to take the exam again. Guess I’ve got to get the promotion now,” he sad, sticking his hands in his pockets. “Gotta scope out the competition - I’m not here to make friends.”
All three stiffened, and Naruto’s eyes lit up.
“Shinsou!”
Shikamaru spluttered.
“Wh-what?!”
“You’re not the only one,” said Sakura immediately.  “Shoulda figured, eyebags. Would have thought Aizawa would be a Nara too, but it still fits.” Shikamaru was, of course, reeling.
“Aizawa’s here?!  Wait, who are you three, then, if you know?”
“I’m Deku,” said Naruto, and yeah, that tracked.
“Who the fuck else?” asked Sakura, and yep, her temper and Bakugou’s were just about the same amount of hair-trigger.  Which left -
“And you’re Todoroki,” he said.  Sasuke nodded.
“Kakashi’s Aizawa.  He’s gonna be really glad that you’re here, Shinsou. Talk to him when you get the chance.”
. . .
“You might be a monster, but so am I,” Naruto insisted as Gaara’s wild gaze turned on him.
“No, no, I was born a monster,” Gaara insisted. “I destroyed everything I touched, it all was decay, I ended a world -”
Oh. Oh.
“And All for One’s gone now,” he said.
The Ichibi’s form flickered, and the sand surrounding the boy flailed whiplike and dangerous.
. . .
Naruto entered the seal and frowned.  It - his body, his spirit felt different. Somewhere between Naruto and Izuku. The mindscape shimmered, and a blond figure stepped forward - the First Hokage. But another step forward, and he shifted into someone else equally, no, more familiar. Naruto choked.
“All Might?!” he gasped. “You’re the Fourth?  But - how - how is this?” he was helpless for words. Minato stiffened, staring at how the spirit before him shifted back and forth between a young man with whisker marks and blue eyes and a mop of green fluffy hair.
“Izuku? You’re Naruto?” he asked quietly. His son nodded vigorously.
“It seems I’ve bestowed quite the power and burden on you twice over,” he mused.  “Come here.  It’s not every day a father gets to see his son for the first time in over a decade,” he said, arms open.  Naruto blinked.
“My - my father?”
“Yes,” he said with a sad smile. “I only ever told your mother about my past life. She even believed me!”
Izuku-Naruto stumbled forward and sobbed into Minato-Yagi’s shoulder, clutching him tightly.
“It’s not just us,” he said, “Aizawa and Todoroki and Kacchan and Shinsou and - there’s more out there, I’m sure of it. Not everyone, but more. And I’m going to save them all this time.”
Minato smiled.
