this is a loving reminder that just because your character is set in a specific universe, doesn't mean they have to stay there. likewise, other people's muses might be originally based in a particular world, but that absolutely doesn't mean that they want to keep them in that world. the wonderful part of the rpc is that we actually don't need to take things so seriously! what does it matter if ted lasso woke up in the same universe as tony stark? does it really make any massive issue for us to put shrek and kaz brekker into the same thread? not at all! go wild! don't let the fictional boundaries of fictional franchises stop you from having fun! the purpose of the rpc is to have a good time with one another: we don't need to have a fully fleshed out reason for these characters to interact! we can just throw them together and see what happens! so go forth, have tons of fun, and don't let logic stand in the way of anything on this dash!

because he’s observant, he notices patterns really well. this means he knows around what time you get your period, so he knows what to bring you and he always checks up on you. same thing if you get like—seasonal depression. he knows because there are certain things you do that just kinda let him know.

for example…

"what's wrong?" tsukishima asked, coming up behind you and putting a light hand on your waist.

"huh?" you hummed, reaching over to grab the lighter. "nothing, i'm fine. why do you ask?" you hated lying to him but you felt so pathetic. you were so incredibly sad and had no idea why. you just were.

he sighed, “please don’t lie to me.”

at his words, your lips began to tremble as you tried to hold it all in. biting your lip—trying to discipline yourself with pain—you simply shook your head and lit the candle. “i’m not, kei.”

you thought using his name would make your lie sound more convincing.

instead of replying immediately, tsukishima moved closer and wrapped his arms around your waist to pull you into him. his voice came out muffled as he buried his face in your neck. "you're lighting a candle. you always light candles when you're sad, so tell me what's wrong."

as if on cue, tears immediately filled your eyes. your eyelids accidentally fluttered and the salty drops began falling and running down your face, staining your cheeks.

but of course, he was right. you did light a candle whenever you felt sad. you hadn’t even noticed.

you didn’t need to say anything for tsukishima to take you by your shoulders and turn you to face him. gently, he placed his hand on the back of your head and tugged you closer to him, wrapping his long arms around you and pulling you into a bear hug.

the calming smell of your boyfriend’s laundry detergent; the aroma of your fall-scented candle; and the feeling of knowing you were safe in tsukishima’s warm, comforting hug hit you all at once, causing you to start trembling with sobs.

tsukishima didn’t speak or move—save for the soft caress of his hand up and down your back—he just stood there and listened while you blubbered and stuttered over how you didn’t know why you felt the way you did this time of year.

“what’s wrong with me?” you asked yourself, sniffling.

still holding you in his cozy embrace, tsukishima shook his head. “there’s nothing wrong with you, love. you’re not going crazy, i promise,” he said softly, loud enough for only you to hear. you felt him press a soft kiss to your temple. “your feelings are valid.”

The first time he met them, he was an absolute angel. He met them alll at different times so it woulddn't be as intimidating. Dick loves him. Tim thinks hes interesting. Jason thinks it would be cooler for me to date Wonder Woman, I thnk. But hes only joking.

In reference to that one post b/c reblogs got turned off, I’ll be real with you guys, I actually do less research for my DP/DC fics compared to my non-crossover fics for either fandom. Not no research because I can’t help myself, but I realized a long time ago that 99% of this crossover fandom simply will not recognize or appreciate the work.

I’ve been in the DP fandom for a few years now, and I’ve been into DC stuff for even longer. So I know a lot of the characters fairly well (admittedly not all of them b/c there are a shit ton of dc characters), but when I write a DC fic I’ll read whole new comic runs to make sure the characterization is right, when I write a DC/DP crossover I just use whatever version of the character is funniest or fits the vibes best, even if it’s not fully accurate.

A DC fan will complain about mischaracterization while another lauds you on how well you characterized their fave (same character).

A DP fan will complain about made-up non-canon lore not being used.

A DP/DC fan will leave comments like “I love this fic, but I wish X character would have done this completely OOC thing because it would be funny lol”

I’ll defend myself to DP and DC fans but with crossover fans it’s usually not worth it. And they’re usually right. It would be funny.

Saw a post. Got to thinking. Am now wondering how my interpretation of characters differs from the canon, and how much of that is:

Deliberate and reasonable: in a 'fighting against canon-authorial biases' way (e.g. taking queer-coded characters to actually queer, addressing the religious stereotypes and racism baked into certain characters, expanding a female characters motivations in ways that don't match up to canon but do match up to Logical Thinking Human Behavior, updating language and slang to not include slurs, etc.)

Reasonable: in a 'yeah, I guess if you stretch your extrapolation of the canon, or focus on this part of the narrative, you can get there without contradicting the rest too much' kind of way

Deliberate: started nearly canon, and then 'ooc' but as an understandable result of the fic's events

Semi-Deliberate: kind of an art style thing, where it's definitely That Character, but through the author's specific style of dialogue and prose; author-tinted glasses, if you will

Semi-Deliberate: the author was trying, but kind of juggled too many things and you can tell that they slipped too far away from canon, and realized it, but didn't have the time/energy to fix it

Deliberate: different from canon, but within an acceptable standard deviation from the canon/mean

Deliberate: different from canon, in a sort of an AU-where-character-is-X, rather than just a different lens or the result of the fic events

Deliberate: ...but you should have honestly just made an OC, this is basically a different, new character

Probably not deliberate: different, but in a way that's kind of just. off-putting, and not particularly self-aware on the part of the author.
