3 | Pro-Cheerleader or Pro-Zombie

Series: A Zombie's Serenity

Paring: Zed Necrodopolis x OFC Buchanan!

The more Zed kept winning games it let zombies be more included and liked by the school. Bucky kept his eye on me like a damn hawk which was ridiculous. Now he was getting annoyed he had to keep an eye on Addison as well because he could tell she had a crush on him. As I walk by the cheer table wanting to go sit with the zombies, Bucky stops me then grabs Addison as she tries to walk over there too.

"You're either pro-cheerleader, or pro-zombie. Decide now." He tells us.

Addison tries to talk back but he won't have it. "I... I wanna be a cheerleader. That's all I ever wanted." She tells him.

"Good. Sis?" He stares me down.

"I'll return the uniform tomorrow after I wash it." I smile at him and he looks at me shocked so does Addison as I walk over to the zombies. "I just wanted to let you know I won't be cheering for you at the next football game on the sideline." I walk up to Zed.

"Why?" He looks upset. "Because I'll be cheering for you in the stands out if this uniform." I take a seat across from him.

"You got kicked off?" He ask shocked.

"I quit. Bucky said pro cheerleader or pro zombie. So I told him I'll return it tomorrow after I wash it." I smile.

"You shouldn't have done that." He tells me.

"Who cares." I mess with my hair letting down the white part and people look at me.

"That's your natural hair?" Eliza asks me.

"Yeah." I smile.

"It's cool. Also if you want to sit with us at the football game you can." She says shocking me.

"Really?" I ask.

"You picked zombies over cheer so I guess you aren't bad." She makes me smile.

Before the football game I had time to go home and change clothes, while my parents weren't there to ask questions. "Serenity!" Eliza waves for me to join them so I jog up the bleachers. "This is Zed's dad and little sister Zoey." She introduces them to me.

"The girl that got lost." His dad remembers me.

"Yep." I laughs taking a seat with them.

"Eliza said you quit cheerleading to be friends with us?" Zoey asks me.

"I did because my brother is mean." I give her a smile.

"Your outfit isn't very pink or blue pastel..." Eliza eyes me.

"My parents don't even know I own rip jeans. Plus the same three color get so tiring." I huff.

"I got you cover." She give me a wink.

"Go Seabrook! Go Zed!" Zoey cheers as the football team comes out and the crowd cheers for him.

"Wooo! Lets go Seabrook!" I stand up and shout. As the game goes on I see Zoey pouting trying to see around people. "Want me to pick you up so you can see?" I ask her.

"Please." She gets a big smile so I place her on my hip. Eliza looks at me giving me a smile, "Let's go zombie!" Zoey chants making a few around us chant.

Zed look over as the team hurdles and points at us making Zoey wave her arms around cheering. I found her so adorable. As Zed wins the game the crowd goes wild. It felt nice seeing the school win because before him it's been years. "Will you sit with us at the next game?" Zoey asks as they wait for Zed to come out to go home.

"Of course I will. I'm going to sitting with you guys till there's no more games. Is that okay with you?" I ask bending down to her height.

"Are you kidding me? Of course not." She wraps her arms around my waist hugging me.

"Zoey, don't scare her off now." Her dad chuckles.

"She won't. It's okay." I pick her up and give her a hug.

"Serenity!" We all look over at Bucky in the distance with Addison looking down as they head off.

"I feel bad you're related to him." Eliza shakes her head.

"Me too." I laugh. "I gotta go." I turn to leave but bump into Zed.

"Hello, there." I look up at him.

"Good game. I would chitchat but Bucky is ready to go home and tell on me for quitting." I give him a hug before jogging off.

As soon as we got home my parents freeze in place when they see Bucky in uniform and not me. "Care to explain?" My mother motions at me.

"Yeah, explain sis." Bucky crosses his arms.

"I quit the squad because Bucky gave me the option to." I tell them straight up.

"You gave her an option?" Dad looks at him.

"I told her cheer or zombies and she picked them over cheer!" He shouts.

"You pick zombies over cheerleading? Something you love?" My mom gasps.

"You guys love cheer... I just like doing it for fun. It's not that serious. Plus zombies aren't bad." I tell them.

"You're grounded." My mom huffs.

"For quitting cheer? Seriously?" I laugh.

"Yes." My father says.

"Fine." I go to my room.

"Have you seen your girlfriend?" Eliza walks up to Zed at his locker.

"She's not my girlfriend." Zed looks at her.

"You want her to be." She winks at him.

"Why do you want to know where she is?" He asks.

"I had an extra jacket lying around and made it up for her." Eliza shoes him the jacket.

"I thought you don't like humans. What makes Serenity so special?" He closes his locker.

"She's different. She liked us before you started winning football games. Maybe I was too quick to judge." Eliza admits to him.

"Here she comes." He nods his head as Serenity walks up.

"Morning." She smiles at them.

"For you." Eliza shows her the jacket.

"Really? I love it. Thank you." She gives Eliza a hug.

"I'm thought you would. I gotta find Bonzo." Eliza leaves the two.

"Zoey hasn't stopped talking a you." They walk together to her locker.

"She's the cutest by the way." They stop at her locker.

"She is." He smiles.

"You still grounded since you quit?" He asks leaning against the lockers next to hers.

"Yep. I still can't even hang out with with Addison past a certain time. By the way she still cheers for you in the inside." Serenity lets him know as she shuts her locker.

"She's being a good friend from afar." He makes her laugh.

"She still has a crush on you." Serenity puts her finger to her lips.

"And I have a crush on her cousin." He smiles as they walk together.

"You have a crush on my brother?" Serenity decides to joke around.

"No, I meant the one with half white hair and quit cheer. I'm actually walking with them right now."

"Well, I hear they have a crush on you too." She nudges him as they walk.

"That's great to hear. I'll see you." He winks walking off as Addison and Bree join Serenity.

"You like him don't you?" Addison gives her a look.

"He's nice." Serenity starts to walk with a smile across her face.

"But you remember, Addie said she liked him first." Bree makes Serenity look at her.

"It doesn't matter if I said it first because he obviously like her back. Zed's cool even as a friend but I'm too scared to be straightforward about being friends with him in public because of Bucky." Addison sighs.

"You need not to care. Like me. I got class." Serenity leaves the girls.

"You're jealous he likes her, aren't you?" Bree looks at Addison.

"Of course I am. He's cute, nice, and funny. No matter how hard I tried to flirt with him he always ended up looking at her. I love Serenity because she's family but... I've always been jealous of her growing up. She had it easier to fit in with our family secret. Now she shows it off and no one says anything about but for me it would be different. She has never cared about what people thought about her. She's comfortable going against family. I never feel like I know who I am while she seems to have herself figured out." Addison rants to Bree about her personal feelings.

"Does she know you feel that way?" Bree asks.

"No. She's never done anything wrong. It's just all me." Addison walks off to class.

Serenity laughs watching Zed signing autographs for students as they all sit together at a table during break. "Just don't end up like my brother signing all these autographs. If you do, I can't talk to you anymore." She laughs at him as he finishes up.

"I won't even talk to him anymore." Eliza stands up with her laptop, "Okay, I'm off to computer club. Me. I think I might be happy?" She leaves makes the three laugh.

Bonzo gets up and heads off to music, "Have fun." Serenity tells him.

"You know zombie tongue now?" Zed laughs as they get up from the table.

"Sorta." She smiles at him.

"Hey, zombie chic. I like it! Give me some! Boom! Boom! There it is." He tells a group as they walk by.

"Yeah, I can't be friends with you anymore more." Serenity laughs but stops at the Acey's walk by with Addison bumping into her on purpose.

"Who cares about the three." Zed opens his locker and confetti pops out. "Cheering for you on the inside. XO, Addison." He reads the paper. "At least she let's me know, not through you for once." He puts the paper away. "So I was thinking that," He gets cut off as Bucky goes over grabbing her arm dragging her off.

"Stay away for him, I mean it. I'm done being nice. I'll get mom and dad to send you away. It doesn't take much." He holds her wrist tight.

"That's funny hearing you say, done being nice, when you haven't been. Make them send me away because until then, I'm still friends with Zombies. Grow up Bucky. It time things change. You're just pissed because it's not all about you. That's a reason you treated me terribly growing up because you weren't the only child anymore." Serenity gets her wrist free marching off.

For the football game, Serenity sits with Zeds family, Eliza, and Bonzo like she normally does. But this time she wasn't much in the mood because of Bucky. She still cheered from time to time but anytime she looked over at him with the squad her blood boiled.

"The Mighty Shrimp have scampied their way to a perfect season! Led by Zombie Zed. The big Homecoming game is next!" The guy announces as the game ends.

As Serenity leaves the bleaches to head home Zed grabs her pulling her aside while the team ran back to the locker room. "You ready to break every rule in the book?" He smiles at her.

"Huh?" She tilts her head with a slight chuckle.

"Meet me at barrier 7pm. Tonight." He winks before running off leaving her alone.

13: Which one likes to surprise the other with a lot of small random gifts?

Eliza x Athenna

So Athenna is definitely That Warden that gives her friends random things she finds, but she never expects anything in return. Which is why she’s very pleasantly surprised when Eliza gets her something and she’s smiling for like the next week

Val x Marianna

Marianna absolutely gives Val lots of small (and not so small) random gifts all the time once she has money. A lot of them are suspiciously weapons or armour.

Val x Cassandra

They’re not big on openly giving the other gifts, as their relationship is for them and them alone. That said, they both like to surprise the other with small thoughtful gifts; it’s part of their courting ritual tbh, although really for Cassandra she just wants to do something nice for her lover, get her something nice. It’s difficult for them both to find gifts for the other–they’re both very practical people–but they find a way. A lot of the time, they’ll get back to their room and discover some flowers waiting on their desk.

bio: the trevelyans, despite originating from antiva, are one of the most prominent noble families of ostwick. because of their strong ties to the chantry, the family does not hesitate to send their children to the circle when they discover the gift of magic. luca felt betrayed when he was sent away at just 12 years old and left on bad terms with his mother, who he was extremely close with. growing up with his father's strong disdain for magic and fearmongering from the templars caused luca to develop a fear of his own magical abilities. luca's mother passes away from illness before luca has a chance to reconcile, intensifying the guilt, fear, and nightmares he already suffered with. before he was even considered to do his harrowing, he begs the templars to make him tranquil so he won't be a threat to anybody, and won't have to further deal with his pain. when kirkwall's circle rebelled, ostwick quickly followed suit, and luca was forced to join the rebels for his own survival. he eventually joins the senior enchanters at the divine conclave as an unbiased voice. when the anchor is accidentally fused with luca's hand, his severed connection with the fade was restored, curing him of his tranquility. after being tranquil for a decade, luca must relearn how to live, how to feel, and how to be a leader, as he's thrust into reverence as the only hope to save thedas.

bio: all callie has known is the stage. for as long as she could remember, she has been performing at the witchlight carnival, hoping that one day she can be on the biggest stage in all the realms. she had been so deeply involved in her dream, it never occurred to her that she doesn't quite remember anything that came before. after being tasked to save zybilna, the founder of the witchlight carnival who had gone missing in her realm in the faewilds, callie comes to the realization that she does not remember her family. she had no memories of who she was and anything that occurred before she arrived at the carnival. she discovers, after speaking to a powerful spirit, that her parents had made a deal with endlyn moongrave, one of the hags that overthrew zybilna, so they could conceive a child. when her parents backed out of the deal after calliope was born, all three of them were cursed by the hag. calliope - who was born of pure, now-cursed fae magic, lost all her memories of her family and her identity. her parents were transformed into hideous monsters that still roam the faewilds to this day. callie must now find a way to break this curse without erasing her very being, rescue the parents she never knew, as well as save the realm from the hags that have taken it over.

bio: growing up, lilith had always had an immense and dangerous fascination with magic, and desperately wanted to learn it for herself. but there is not much a lowly street urchin can do when your main focus is surviving the day in a dirty, corrupt city. despite the hardships, lilith will always try to steal magical trinkets and tomes to try to teach herself magic. perhaps if she was strong enough, she would be able to make enough money for her and her mother to have a real home. however, lilith was caught stealing from a powerful noble, and - in a desperate attempt to save her daughter - lilith's mother takes the blame, resulting in her being cut down before lilith's very eyes. months pass and lilith is suddenly approached by a ghostly voice, claiming to be the spirit of her deceased mother. her mother's spirit says that she returned to watch over her daughter, and will be willing to teach her magic if lilith does what she is told. lilith accepts immediately, and is ecstatic that she is getting to two things she wants the most - her mother, and magic. unbeknownst to lilith, however, this apparition is not her mother. it is instead a fiend, taking advantage of a grieving orphan with a strong desire for magic, in order to manipulate her into doing its bidding. the fiend's goal is to feed lilith so much power that she eventually goes berserk, wreaking as much havoc as possible before she inevitably loses herself to the very magic she longed for.

So, I knew when I thought about making an HPHL oc or maybe two (haha I was so naïve!) that I would want to look into Artemis’ family background. We know a bit about her mother’s side of the family, because I’ve extrapolated from existing canon, but the Hexleys are my own invention entirely, so I wanted to explore that lineage.

In my character profile for Artemis, I’d written that she had French heritage. This wasn’t an accident, there’s a reason for it (the clue is in Héloïse’s profile but it’s subtle), so I knew I wanted a character that would be either French or french-descended. When I was looking for a faceclaim for Artemis’ mother Sara I considered using Audrey Tautou, but decided against it because she looked too French (also Rachel Weisz does look weirdly like Alison Sudol with Artemis’ dark hair and hazel eyes) but I loved the idea of using her as a faceclaim. Voila, I had Héloïse.

The idea of Jim and Héloïse’s love story is inspired by a few fictional stories, in which characters try to form a bond despite not understanding each other’s language: Colin Firth’s Portuguese storyline in Love Actually (the best Christmas movie ever), Brian Friel’s play Translations, and above all, William Shakespeare’s Henry V. There is a scene (Act 5, Scene 2) in which King Henry attempts to woo his future wife, Kate, and this was more than anything the inspiration for Jim and Héloïse. They evolved from here.

Part of the fun of HPHL is that there’s so much freedom in what we can create, so I wanted an OC I could use to forge her own path and connect with all my AMAZING mutuals’ HPHL characters. Along came Ethel, her chatty and overbearing personality, her wit and verbal dexterity, and faceclaim fully formed in my mind - she was Maya Hawke, specifically in the TV adaptation of Little Women. She and Josh O’Connor (who has the bumbling English gent quality I love in Jim) have this passing resemblance, so their appearances were sealed. With regards to fictional characters, Ethel’s mainly inspired by Elle Woods from Legally Blonde, but there’s a bit of Cher Horowitz from Clueless, and Beatrice from Much Ado About Nothing in the mix too - witty, outgoing and exasperating women, who are capable of a lot more than people give them credit for because they never seem to take anything seriously. An honourable mention also has to go to Angelica Schuyler from the musical Hamilton, particularly these lyrics:

Finally, Ophelia. Oh, my accidental but beloved OC Ophelia. Her whole appearance comes from @lifeofkaze who sent me a picture of an angry looking Mia Wasikowska in Victorian era clothing with a message saying “she looks like another grandmother for Artemis… and you don’t have a Slytherin”. I resisted, but as always, Bestie knew best.

With Ophelia, I had the idea of subverting the “ambitious woman” stereotype. She’s ambitious. Very ambitious. It’s just that her ambition is to become a trophy wife. It’s so unlike me and my other characters, that I’ve had real fun with it. Her fictional inspirations are Eliza Doolittle from Pygmalion, Catherine Morland from Northanger Abbey, and above all, Amy March from Little Women, particularly in this scene from the 2019 film adaptation:
