Worked myself into a fit when I lost my Apple Pencil right before the weekend started and got a lot of it out when I opened it yesterday 🫠

Avatar OCs without any art because I Cant Draw For Shit

Avatar Shi

Earthbender

Does not originate from the Nations, instead from a small faraway island that doesnt even know about bending.

After Korra manifested for them, they started to learn to bend.

Great bender, but cant fight and doesnt know about money.

Age: 23

Heng

Shi's wife and voice of reason

Nonbender

Also an islander. Married Shi after years of them being friends and, when they reach the nations, is the main thing keeping everyone together.

Age: 25

Kun

Adopted daughter of Shi and Heng

Earthbender

Around 8

A prodigy, and the thing that helped Shi realize that there must be other benders out there.

So these three decide to make a little island-boat and take it over to the mainland, with Korra helping in the decision.

Korra acts as a translator in this.

So they make it to the Fire Nation.

Korra died in their 130s, and technology has stayed pretty similar with a few things becoming more widespread and films being in color, as expansion further would encroach on Spirit territory and we don't need another General Old Iron incident.

Airbenders are a lot more common though.

So one of their first encounters is with Raito, a firebender conman. He joins Team Avatar to evade the cops and hopefully make back his money. He acts as Shi's teacher and a big part of how they experience the world.

He's a very proficient lightningbender, with a technique that allows him to accelerate his own muscles to move faster.

Their next encounter is with Jamyang, an airbender musician who can control sounds.

He's really just along for the ride.

Hanako, the team's second nonbender, is an antagonist for a bit.

Kun perfectly matches the description of Hanako's "soulmate" as given by a soothsayer. Hanako's an aristocratic child who tries to date Kun for a while, and the Team's response is often to run away.

Eventually, Kun decides to go save Hanako from another antagonist and Hanako joins the team but remains a bit of a hopeless lesbian as Kun really just wants to fight people.

So that's the team. There's no waterbender right now because reasons.

Their adversaries include

The cops, chasing Raito

A spirit, also chasing Raito.

A dickish airbender whose goal is to train Shi for the publicity.

The Dai Li, because if Shi becomes more well-known their puppet avatar gig is up.

Eventually Shi decided to relearn bending from the original masters and bring back the spiritual side of things as most bending has devolved into "yeet element". They get one of Wan Shi Tong's foxes along with them as an animal companion. Tell me what you think!

I have a couple questions: 1. Did Oni Guy ever get a name yet? 2. Which of your characters are normal human ages, and which are Ancient Ones? I know your OC Sandy is really old but looks young, but what about the others?

1. I actually hadn’t! But I thought that would be a really sad answer so I decided to take a quick look at some names and these are the ones that I like/caught my attention:

Jamyang and Rinchen I like mostly because the name meanings match his younger version. Palden I think is a good fit for his older version. Jampa I think matches both versions and the meaning I think goes a little well with what I want for his narrative. I like the sound of Tashi and Tinley although idk how much Tinley would match to his older version in particular.

2. So actually I never completely decided that for Sandy! I’m surprised you remember that anon (assuming you’re the same one from that really old ask) I was thinking about that for Sandy and Pigsy because I really like the origin story for both in the original “Journey to the West”. Pigsy however I’ve kind of moved from his origin a bit to something else so he’s probably not an ancient anymore. Sandy I haven’t completely moved from yet because the whole banishment over accidentally breaking a vace has so much potential and I love it. All that said I don’t like working with technical stuff so having to keep up with how old a character has to be to do X or things like if character is doing X thing at X age then that means they were babies when they started! Or if it’s been so long since X event then why is the character still look young??? So I’ve strongly considered taking the dragonball saiyan approach and being like slow aging is a thing and they all have it! lol. Some characters can/will have excuses for this like the Azures who have dragon God blood in them which can and probably will be used as an excuse to slow aging. Other characters obtain blessings or other such things from Gods which can also cause slow aging but characters like Oni boy above won’t start that way and so he’d be normal aging human if I axe the saiyan thing :p

The Rise of Avatar Singi OCs - Research and Subtleties

Animal hybrids included, there is a (tentative) THIRTY-ONE original characters in my fanfiction trilogy, The Rise of Avatar Singi. What with the trilogy being currently two-thirds of the way done, and a (subtle?) desire to go on a bit of a rant, here are some factoids that go into just some of my OCs for this trilogy, as a fair amount of work went into creating them.

The Protagonists:

- Singi (pronounced: SIN-gee, 申志):

• With Wan having haled from a fire lion turtle city as we saw in the Beginnings episodes, and being Wan’s immediate reincarnation as the Avatar (the Avatar Cycle is water -> earth -> fire -> air), Singi is an Air Nomad. As is known, the Air Nomad culture closely resembles that of Hindu priests and Tibetan monks (the latter of which most often practice Buddhism).

• Singi’s name was actually inspired by that of a female domestic yak (Bos grunniens) which I helped to take care of during an internship at a zoo last summer. When asked for any meaning behind the name, no translation was given; however, it was noted that the origin was Himalayan, which is a region on Earth in which Buddhist groups (one of the many bases for the Air Nomads) are found.

- Monk Jamyang (pronounced: JAHM-yahng, 嘉木样):

• Singi’s mentor, close friend, voice of reason, and one of the rare few who befriended Singi’s previous incarnation, “Jamyang” translates to “gentle voice” in Tibetan.

- Guilin (pronounced: Gway-lin, 桂林):

• An earthbender Singi befriends while learning how to master the element from his father, General Dao.

• “Guilin” is also the name of a prefecture-level city in the northeast Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, which translates to "Forest of Sweet Osmanthus".

The Antagonists (only ONE will be covered here):

- Maku (pronounced: Muh-KU, 马库):

• Maku is the only character in the trilogy confirmed to be left-handed, which connects with his role as an antagonist. In Chinese culture, the adjective "left" (左, Mandarin: zuǒ) sometimes means "improper" or "out of accord." While in Korean, the word for "left" is oenjjog (왼쪽), a similar word is oenjjog-ui (왼쪽의), which also translates to "sinister."

The Secondary Characters (only TWO will be covered here):

- Gekkō (月光):

• Gekkō is Singi’s waterbending instructor. The waterbender culture is heavily inspired by the Inuit-Yupik culture of the northern circumpolar region of Earth, as well as a bit of Chinese culture. Inuit-Yupik names often use heavy emphasis on Qs and Ks.

• After the lion turtles relinquished their roles as protectors and element-granters of mankind, humans needed to learn the elements from various outside-world inspirations. For waterbenders, it ended up being the moon. They observed how the moon pushed and pulled the tides, and based their manipulation of the element off of that (the actual martial art which waterbending uses as seen in the franchise is based on a style of T'ai chi ch'uan, specifically the Yang style).

• “Gekkō” literally translates to “moonlight” in Japanese.

- General Dao (道):

• Singi’s earthbending instructor, and Guilin’s father. Earthbender culture is based on that of the Chinese.

• “Dao” is also the name of a type of single-edge Chinese sword, known as "The General of All Weapons". This was the inspiration to have the character be a military general.

Animal Hybrids:

- Jiefeng (pronounced: Zhee-eh-FAWN, 婕风):

• Singi’s animal companion, and a female cranefish (the hybrid species has only been seen in The Rift comic trilogy), whose name translates to “graceful wind” or “beautiful wind.”

- Qiú (pronounced: Chee-OH, 球):

• Qiú is Guilin’s pet, and a male armadillo hare—one of two animal hybrids I personally created for the trilogy. The creature itself has the overall appearance of a hare, but the forepaws, tail, and armor of an armadillo.

• “Qiú” literally translates to “ball” in Chinese, which is fitting, see as how he is able to curl into a protective ball when provoked.
