Signal Boost for Writers: Research & Fact-checking comm on Dreamwidth

There used to be a great Livejournal community called "Little Details" that helped all kinds of fiction writers (fanfiction, original works, DMs etc.) with their research and fact-checking.

That comm no longer exists, but it has now opened again on Dreamwidth!

It's also possible to ask a question anonymously, the moderator has made an extra post for that; it's explained in the rules and guidelines post at the top of the page.

Fan works where the poster’s hatred of a character is projected onto another character whose feeling towards the hated character canonically are positive or at the very least ambiguous but unlikely to be as negative as suggested given circumstances and context. There are many other characters who’d make much more sense they could have used for their mouthpieces, but no. The mouthpiece character is often chosen not because it makes sense but because the fan/fandom loves them so they must be depicted as sharing their hatred of another character regardless of reason.

It’s bad enough so much was stolen before anyone had any idea. With fanfiction, ownership is far blurrier lines due to the legalities of Fair Use, but unless you wrote it, you definitely do not have any claim to own it.

And unless you own it, you don’t get to decide if AI gets that fic.
