Big Time Rush Season 1, Episode 2: “Big Time Crib”

It's nice to be in the "real" series now! I thought I was going to be stuck reviewing episode one forever.

Highlights: Shenanigans abound, Bandana Man makes his first appearance, and the guys get an apartment makeover.

We begin at the Palm Woods pool, where the guys have just returned from an exhausting day of rehearsals. Before they can get any time to relax, they're kicked out on account of a dog food commercial being filmed there. Several of the commercial's crew members pick up the boys and deposit them into the Palm Woods lobby.

I happened to pause the episode here to write that above paragraph and had to screenshot it. I'd mentioned in the previous post how I remember there being a clear pairing of Kendall & Logan and then James & Carlos, and whaddya know? There it is again. Also, I like Kendall and Logan's matching poses.

Since it's after 9pm, Bitters kicks them out of the lobby, leaving the boys no choice but to retreat to their ugly apartment. I totally forgot that 2J looked terrible in the beginning!

Also, the theme song! It's been so long since I've seen this opening theme song. So fun. Really brings back memories of my dad walking into the room and going, "This silly show again?"

YES, DAD.

The boys are upset that they're stuck in a dump while other residents get much nicer accommodations. Bitters attempts to point out all the positives of their apartment, but it doesn't sway the guys. Moments after Bitters leaves, a pipe bursts, and Carlos responds to it in a way only Carlos can.

This brings back another vague memory of the times my dad would sometimes sit and watch BTR with me and ask, "What's wrong with him?" whenever Carlos did, like...anything, lol.

The guys need a better place to live, and they get a glimpse of that possibility the following day at Rocque Records when they see a drawing of an apartment set that's going to be used in an upcoming promotional video. Griffin wants each of them interviewed for it.

James thinks they should all wear bandanas. This is another thing I'd forgotten about; James had a bandana obsession. I do remember Bandana Man!

The reaction on their faces to James's suggestion is great.

Not gonna happen, James. Keep dreaming.

After the meeting, the guys get right to scheming on how to get the set built in their apartment instead. Well, it's mostly Kendall doing the scheming. Logan thinks it's never going to work, James thinks bandanas will somehow solve their problems, and Carlos is just along for the ride.

They end up recruiting Camille to help with their plan, and she instructs the builders of the set to bring it to the Palm Woods instead. Logan impersonates Griffin (against his will) and then voices his displeasure at this whole entire plan. He does not want to get into trouble. But, like...shouldn't he be used to it? This is what you sign up for when you decide to be friends with Kendall, James, and Carlos.

We hear the "Logie" nickname for the first time in this episode!

Logan points out that a major problem with their plan is that Mrs. Knight is certainly going to take notice of a bunch of people in the apartment from 11-3. We cut immediately to Mrs. Knight informing the boys that she's going to be out job-hunting the following day from 11-3. Cue Kendall throwing Logan this look:

Logan, don't you know by now that things always end up working out for Kendall?

The guys end up getting the interviews moved to the Palm Woods pool and proceed to split up in order to tackle the remaining tasks. And I must say that one of my favorite moments is when Kelly goes to check on how the set is coming and we get that little scene of Carlos and Katie in the studio just making construction sounds.

This is one of those scenes that's lived rent-free in my head for 13 years for some reason. I've forgotten so much about this show, but Carlos sitting there running the power tools and hammering that pile of wood boards earned a reserved place in my brain. I don't know why. But it's a scene that has popped into my thoughts every so often over the years.

Meanwhile, at James's interview...

This show is peak comedy.

Lots of shenanigans happen from here, and for a moment, it looks like the plan is going to fall apart. James Bandana Man saves the day by locking Bitters in a supply closet that, for some reason, has a very simple latch lock on the outside??

This makes absolutely zero sense. For what reason would you choose this type of lock for a supply closet? Literally anyone can open it?? This is serving no purpose.

Anyway! The guys get their super cool new crib installed, they film their music video, and Gustavo has the crew immediately take the set apart and revert the apartment back to its previous state. Sadness once again reigns supreme in 2J.

Their video and interviews are a success, but Gustavo still needs his dogs to face consequences for all their sneakiness. He has them practice harmonies for ten hours with no breaks, which sounds illegal to me?? The boys are only 16, right? Idk, this feels like it's violating some kind of law. Needless to say, they're all tired and bummed when they arrive home. That is, until they see that their apartment has been transformed back!

Gustavo explains that it's a "bone" being thrown to them but not to expect any more. Kelly notes that Gustavo likes the boys but he insists that he does not. Yeah, right. Gustavo loves his dogs.

And that's where the episode ends. It's an enjoyable one for sure—lots of funny moments. Totally different feel to "Big Time Audition" though, and I'm already mourning the loss of Original Kendall. He was still scheming and manipulative in this, but it was in a purely goofy way. There was none of that "fire" that we saw several times in BTA. No edge. First Episode Kendall had an edge. Why has the edge been smoothed away by EPISODE 2?? Does it come back in some spots during the series? I can't remember. I still love him, though.

so i've assumed for the longest time that 2x7 must take place in march of 2020 because in 2x9 DC, gil refers to march 12th as the night that tom sent greg the "can't make a tomlette" emails, and of course a deleted scene from that episode is the only time we would have ever seen that phrase mentioned otherwise. it also makes complete sense, narratively, to essentially do a little fakeout: "tom, is [the date that you burned the documents] significant to you?" "nope! (feeling confident bc there's no proof of him having done that on that day)" "well that's the day you sent all these batshit emails, and how i know for certain you are well acquainted with greg hirsch." "uh oh"

ntm the fact that it makes a lot of sense as a character choice for tom to specifically send greg that email over and over again on the night that he's kinda trying to punish greg, and where he's probably totally unable to sleep.

anyway, there's a But incoming... i fucking wish there wasn't, but. somehow i've only just now realized that in DC, gil refers to the thanksgiving of 1x5 as "last year." which would indicate that it's still 2019, and therefore the march 12th he's referring to should be a day very close to tom's wedding. and, admittedly... it's not totally out there that tom's initial reason for coining the phrase was because he learned about the Greg The Egg nickname, from shiv having told him after hearing it from caroline. hell, maybe it was when they first started at ATN and it was tom's anxiety spilling out to match greg's Principles.

obviously it's a lot of personal bias that mainly makes me not want this to be the case, like... the sheer amount of fic i've written just confidently using the timeline where a year has passed in the first 7 episodes of season 2, which would be fucked to hell if i accept that DC is in 2019 lol

however..... it IS pretty undeniable that at least a year passes in season 2. do the math: exactly 2 years between the pilot and 4x1. ~5 months pass in s1. 2 and a half weeks pass between 2x9 and 3x5 (according to frank). the rest of s3 takes place - MOST LIKELY - over the course of no more than 4 months. about 3 months pass between s3 and 4, based on knowledge of shiv's pregnancy. and no gaps between seasons otherwise... that's a year left. there HAS to be at least one months-long timeskip somewhere in there. and it's always seemed very plausibly to be between tern haven and argestes, given the notion of pierce "fucking them about." for the longest time i've even specifically imagined argestes as being after the holidays and in january of 2020, partially bc that's convenient for why any notion of logan's 81st bday, the recny ball of 2019, and the holidays are all completely missing. the holidays would also be a good excuse on pierce's end not to rush a deal, and finally, i took into account the weather in that episode.

frankly, i consider the climate heavily when i'm working out the timeline of a show. especially this one. if they wanted to make it plausibly deniable what time of year it was, they'd set the episode indoors. or they'd pick a different part of the world for the roys to visit. and in the season 2 finale, they're on a yacht and explicitly swimming in the mediterranean. it's VERY unlikely that they'd be comfortable hanging around in swim trunks and swimming in those waters if it was any time between october and march. going off of that... if s3 begins in late 2019 as opposed to april/may of 2020, then caroline sent out her wedding invitations no less than 6 months early.

basically it's split between this:

what gil said has more weight. we can assume that the seemingly conflicting weather is a metatextual flub to be ignored. DC is in 2019, the emails were around the time of the wedding, and the huge timeskip containing the holidays is in s3 which also means that caroline sent out her invitations very early

settings and characterizations have more weight. we can assume either that gil misspoke or that it's a metatextual flub to be ignored. DC is in april of 2020, the emails were sent during The Return, and the huge timeskip was in s2 and took the holidays of 2019 with them

Hey, I was wondering how do you feel about Logan and Haru’s relationship?

I wasn’t expecting an ask after my post so fast lol, hi

Logan and Haru honestly radiate brother energy to me.

I know that’s not what a lot of people will wanna hear, but it's my own opinion and if someone can’t handle that, they need to accept that not everyone sees the same thing as them. This post is just gonna be me elaborating on why and also how I perceive the two.

Before I get accused of ignorance or anything worse than that- I do have gay family members, I was in a major that was filled with predominantly gay or bi men (honestly a surprise to me for some reason, and I had close friends growing up during my grade school years who never had an issue expressing themselves or hiding who they were (we grew up in a more accepting community).

The ship between the boys is neat, but I don’t ship it, just like how I wouldn’t let myself ship Mi-An and Elsie, but I can see the ship after Elsie’s character growth. Or how I’d actually love to see Amirah with Grace.

I ship based primarily upon if they’d fit together psychologically and what their dynamics scream to me. I don’t like to randomly throw characters together just because it’s new or A looks like this and B is the opposite. I don’t believe looks make a relationship- they can make a trope, but a trope only works if characters actually mesh well together. It’s a common misconception I’ve seen over the years.

But in the case of Logan and Haru- they scream found family and brothers to me.

Coming from someone who has witnessed or experienced found family, it’s actually something beautiful and profound. My uncle isn’t really my uncle, my abuelo’s family took him in when he was laboring away as a kid and sleeping in a cargo shipping container. My sister-in-law didn’t click well with her own family but is perfect in ours and she is one of us. My dad’s friend grew up being babysat by a woman across the street and that whole family essentially became hers despite having a sister and parents of her own.

Found family does exist- and it’s often a concept not considered.

Tbh, the two of them remind me of Sylvain and Felix from Fire Emblem: Three House. Which is another case I think is found family/brother bond over romantic.

While Haru does seem to understand Logan and he seems like the balance to him- that’s often a case for siblings. Siblings can be opposites. My sister and I are, my brother and I are- and my brother and sister are the same as one another.

I don’t think Haru could stand dating Logan’s ass BECAUSE he knows him. There’s nothing wrong with Logan, but something in their dynamic hints that Logan can be a bit annoying. I hc him as pestering Haru when he’s bored while Haru is trying to work on something.

And while Logan appreciates Haru helping to guide him, that he makes up for the areas Logan lacks in and vice versa, I can see Logan getting into a tiffy with some of his issues as well. Not like a relationship style of learning to accept one another’s flaws and areas they lack in, more like I can see the two annihilating the shit out of one another in a ruthless sibling like way. And it’d be hilarious and they’d forgive one another because they know they’ll do it again. There’s acceptance and accountability held between the two.

I think the softness they have with one another stems from grief, but also their personalities.

Logan, while blunt and to the point, is caring and protective of those he sees as family. It’s evident in his lines and voice that there’s shifts the more you progress with him unlike some characters (no disrespect to them). Logan is a survivalist who knows he has to accept his own shortcomings and ask for help when he can’t do it himself- because how else will he achieve what he needs done? He’s cocky, but he’s honest and knows he needs humility to stay alive.

I do not believe his gentle demeanor towards his friend is anything romantically coded. He seems to speak like that to some others as well in Act III from what I’ve seen so far.

As for the concept of them being Andy’s parents- while it’s evident that Logan is Andy’s father figure despite the man being young, Haru and Andy seem like siblings as well to me. They honestly give off the vibes of the brothers from Big Hero 6.

Both are incredibly intelligent, both have a similar personality to that of the character they correspond to in the movie, and one leaves so the other can achieve things by himself. Just, in this case, Haru isn’t gonna be in an explosion like the brother was. Haru helped hone in on Andy’s brewing intelligence, but it’s obvious to both men that Andy needs proper schooling as well and to grow up as a kid. Andy cannot follow in either of their shadows, Andy cannot become the next Haru. Haru even radiates big brother energy and is less guiding in Andy’s life like Logan is (I.e. when he tries to do what’s best for him and his safety).

So, in conclusion, I think Logan and Haru are that of found family and brothers. I don’t read any romantic connotations from them or hints of it. And while Logan serves the role of Andy’s father, Haru seems to be that of the big brother. Any “hints” of them being that way, to me, is just this heavy set of shared guilt and burdens between the two of them. I think their need to protect Sandrock and avenge Howlett, as well as taking in Andy, helped to alleviate them in a way, but it’s a dark moment in their lives that is gonna be between the two of them.

I have some friends within this fandom who ship the two, and that’s honestly more than fine. We all see and perceive things a different way. I respect them and thankfully, I receive it back. I worry for this ship to become similar within the fanbase akin to Felix x Sylvain or Dean x Castiel in terms of fans arguing with one another, and I know it’ll occur either way because some are strongly for the ship, and some are vehemently against it. My only hope is that it doesn’t reach that level and we can respect one another’s opinions.

Hi! This is going to be interesting, because it's actually been a while since I've watched Gilmore Girls, so there's no way it's gonna be comprehensive in any way, but I'll have fun thinking about it.

Some favorite moments... I really like the conversation they have in season 7 after Rory has her "crush" on that professor(?). It just feels really mature and healthy. I love how completely unfazed Logan is by all of it and how sure he is, that he belongs with and that as long as she's sure she belongs with him, it's all fine. And I like that he apologizes for an earlier fight and takes accountability for the fact, that maybe he didn't handle that great, but that was on him and not on her and it shouldn't make her feel weird. I have some thoughts on that earlier argument, but absolutely, he didn't handle it perfectly. Sometimes emotions get the better of us and we do things we shouldn't. And while emotions themselves can't really be wrong, the way we act on them definitely can be, so it's good to own up to that and apologize. It's a good basis for a healthy relationship, because adressing it and genuinly apologizing for it allows both parties to actually move past it, rather than letting it fester and gradually turn into something bigger.

I also really like the scene in the beginning of Vineyard Valentine. Actually I really like most of their scenes in that episode. I know people have some thoughts on it, because of Luke and I'm not arguing the writing isn't heavy-handed, but the Rory and Logan parts are very nice. You can just feel the way they fit together and how well they know each other. They're different, but in a way that goes really well together and they're both kind of amused by and fond of their differences. And it's really sweet (and again, healthy) that Logan is so genuinely cool with taking Lorelai and Luke. He knows how close Rory is to her mum and he doesn't mind at all. He doesn't complain about having to share his time with her family or having to make an effort to get along with them. This is important to Rory, more than than it is a part of Rory, so of course this is now a part of his life too. It's just a given for him and as long as he also gets some time with her, it's all good.

Random scene I really like is in Season 5, when he calls her after he's come back early from spring break. First of all, it's very obvious that he's just in that phase of "i really like you and i just wanna spent time with you" (that phrase was a total accidental quote by the way) and so is she obviously based on her reaction and it's just so cute. And you can see in their earlier scene that episode and during their phone call why. They have fun together. They tease each other and argue about stupid stuff and they're so smiley during all of it. They genuinely have so much fun just the two of them being together and I think that's a big part of being in a relationship.

I love Rory making a big deal over his birthday in season 7. It makes so much sense that growing up Logan would never be celebrated for being himself, but only ever for achieving and even there I'd guess rather sparingly. So it's so sweet that Rory very explitly goes "you existing is a big deal and I am so glad you do. Not because you did something, not because you gave me something. But just because you being who you are is fantastic and it makes my life better". I have a headcanon, that Logan is superfically very confident, because there's a lot of things he's sure of. He knows he has the family name, the family money, good looks and he can be very charming. And for most people all of that together is more than enough, so he very happily moves through life certain in the knowledge that he'll be fine. But I think one thing he learns during his relationship with Rory is to actually just be confident in himself without all of those more superficial trappings and maybe even find out who that actually is and what he wants out of life. So it's really great for Rory to basically go "we need to celebrate YOU. Just YOU. Because despite everything you were told growing up, you are definitely worth it." And because I now can't stop thinking about it, I need to mention that the song 'Sweet Nothing' by Taylor Swift really makes me think of them.

Now their similiarites... They both really enjoy "arguing" about silly stuff. They enjoy the back and forth, the clever quips and getting one over on each other.

I think they want a lot of the same things out of life and I think they both really anchor to each other when they get together. I know how they end originally, but I think apart from that you really see them hold on to each other quite strongly and for different reasons they end up being a very safe and secure place for each other, which is something they maybe weren't conciously looking for, but both still really wanted. Generally speaking I would say once they actually get together, they have very similar ideas of what their relationship is and what they want out of a relationship.

Their main complementary difference I would say is that Rory is fairly tightly wound whereas Logan tends towards being more laid back. And that Rory relax and breath a bit, have some fun, let go of some the things she's been carrying around for some time a very long time. He naturally pulls her into new experiences, that she'd shy away from by herself, because he's the one who goes looking for them and she tends to really enjoy that. I think partly, because she learns fairly quickly, that she's safe with him, so there's less reason to be anxious when he's with her and she can just let go for a bit.

On the flip side, I think Rory gives Logan some much needed structure in his life, because she's there and she's doing her thing and he wants to a part of it and that means he needs to make space and time for her things to fit in and I think he finds he actually really enjoys it. He's enjoying being being accountable to someone other than himself, because it's her, and he's enjoying taking a beat sometimes and just being home with her and a good book, even if it isn't his most natural inclination. And I think he's really surprised by that, because with his parents structure was always a really painful, restricting thing, which is why he spent so much time rebelling against it, and this feels really... different.

As to how they would parent themselves... I don't know. I think Rory would tend toward being anxious. Both when the kids are little and she'd squeeze Logans hand a lot, when they climb up and down stuff and start really exploring and jumping off of things and all those lovely things. Because she knows they need to do it, but it'd still be hard for her to watch them do something potentially dangerous. And when they get older, I think she'd tend towards being anxious for their future and how they're coping with the general and more specific difficulites that life brings. And I think that would make her want to meddle or just be very involved in certain things because she wants to help. Not too disimilar from Lorelai and Emily actually in some way.

I think Logan would be good at keeping her calm-ish (see above) and reminding her that this is just life and she can't hold on to too tight because it's not good for anyone involved. I think something he'd really struggle with is trying to figure out how to "discipline" his children, because I don't think he has ever really seen that done in a healthy way that he could model himself after. He just knows that the way things worked in his family definitely isn't how he wants to do it. I think he also knows that while he had been far too restricted in some way, he'd also had way too much "freedom" (others might call it neglect) in others and that's why a lot of things didn't klick for him until he met Rory and while I don't think he minds his "misspent youth" (he certainly had a good time misspending a lot of it) I don't think he would want his kids to celebrate getting kicked out of every possible boarding school. So finding a healthy middle ground and where to set boundaries and how to deal with a kid that probably doesn't always love those boundaries, even if it needs them, without feeling like he's being his dad will probably take some working through of issues.

I think one big issue they would have to deal with as parents together is money. Because it's gonna be there. They're gonna have money. Lots of it. And that's gonna be the enviroment their kids grow up in. And Logan know what a childhood and young adulthood with unvettered access to lots and lots of money is like. And while again, he'd definitely say he had a good time with all that money, as an adult he'd probably also knows, that it wasn't very sound parenting. At the same time I don't think he'd be for artifically restricting their kids access to money. I think Rory is really going to struggle with her view of trustfund babies and what it means to grow up in high society with lots and lots of money and is going to be a bit uncomfortable with her kids growing up very well of. I don't think that's going to be an issue for Logan, he doesn't think the having money and spending money by itself is the problem, it's everything surrounding it. So he definitely wouldn't want to give his kids unlimited access to the family bank account, but I don't think he'd mind them having credit cards when they got older and treating themselves occasionally to expensive things, he'd just want to be sure to still teach that money means something, that earning money also means something (or maybe more, that having a purpose whether it makes money or not means something), and that there are still things they can't just have simply because they think they want them. So that having patience and being able to prioritze and to weigh their wants and desires against each other are still skills they learn, because you're going to need them in life.

I don't really know which of my opinions are unpopular, so this is going to be really hard.

I think Logan had a lot of really good reasons leading up to his proposal to assume they were on the same page. Is that unpopular? And kind of based on that, I can't really blame him for walking away when Rory said no. That definitely feels like an unpopular opinion. I made a long post on a forum about this ages ago, but basically, I don't think he's actually the one who turned it into an all or nothing thing. I think that was actually Rory. Because she was the one who knew she was going to say no, who knew she going to say they were going to be long distance again, and other than saying yeah, sorry, I don't want this. You're kind of holding me back, actually. She doesn't really have anything else prepared. She's giving him a really big rejection, not just with saying no to marrying him, but by saying no to coming to San Francisco (and again, I think he has really good reasons for thinking their on the same page here, so I get why he is blind sided by all of it) despite the fact that right now she doesn't have anything else lined up. She just doesn't wanna be tied to him like that. She'd rather be on the east coast by herself figuring it out, than on the west coast with him figuring it out, because that might mean she has to think about him and their relationship and she just doesn't want that. And I don't think she's giving him a whole lot to convice him, that despite that she still loves him the way he loves her, that she still sees their future together the way she has said she does and that there is an actual concrete plan for getting there. She's not saying, ask me again in a year. In two years. She isn't saying, I wanna do things and go places, but I want my home base to be you. So let's go to San Francisco and build a home together there and also let me explore things somewhere else, knowing I'll come back to you and what we're building. And then there isn't really a lot of middle ground. Because he wants to build something with her and she doesn't. She wants to just be responsible for herself and no one else. And that's fine. But it's not really a relationship is it? So I get kinda frustrated when she knows what she's saying, she know's he's gonna be hurt and feel incredible unloved and rejected and yet it's somehow his job to have a back-up plan ready for them? He had a plan. He told her what he wanted. She said no. And again, that's perfectly fine. She apparently wasn't in a place to commit to someone else and that is entirely valid. But she doesn't offer a counter plan for what she does want. He's the one who says, what we'll do just do long-distance, seeing each other occasionally for the unforseeable future, because she hasn't given him anything else. And she weakly nods and says we've done it before. She doesn't try to convice him, tell him how much she wants to make this work, tell him she'll make time, to have room for her in his place, because she's going to be there, even if it isn't all the time. She doesn't offer anything, despite the fact that unlike him she's had all night to think about what comes after the no she knew she was going to give. And I think that means she didn't have anything to offer. She just didn't have room for him in her life. And I think it's fair, that after she just said no to his proposal, he then didn't start asking for something less so she can say no again. "Okay, let's not get engaged, just come to San Francisco" "No, I don't wanna be tied down by you." "Okay, let's do long-distance, but let's have an end date in sight" "No, I don't wanna be tied down by you." If she wanted any of those things, any kind of middle ground that was still something resembling the actual relationship they were already having, she could have offered it. But she didn't. And that left them with all or nothing. Because that's what she was offering that moment. Nothing and the vague hope that eventually at some point she'd be ready for something. And that's my unpopular opinion on the two of them together.

I'm not sure I have unpopular opinions on them individually, they tend to be very linked in my head.

Summary: Something's upsetting Logan. Virgil doesn't like that.

Notes: Day 1 of @analogicalweek 2022! This is for the prompt “fear.” (Also, keep an eye out for day 7, when I will post the tally for how many times I use the word “husband” across the week lol.)

Something was wrong with Logan. Virgil could tell.

Not that it was difficult to notice—Logan was terrible at hiding his emotions, even though he often struggled to process them; Virgil could often tell when Logan was upset before his husband even knew it himself.

Virgil didn’t think that that was the situation this evening, though; he’d caught Logan sending small, worried looks at him all through dinner every time he thought Virgil wasn’t looking. Whatever was up, Logan was aware of it. Now Virgil had to figure it out.

Virgil shook his head to bring himself out of his thoughts and handed his husband the last clean dish to dry. He moved over to wrap his arms around Logan from behind and stood on tiptoe, hooking his chin over Logan’s shoulder as he dried the frying pan. Logan did not speak, but pressed his temple to Virgil’s in acknowledgement of the hug.

Virgil, running his hands up and down Logan’s arms, could feel tension in them, more than was usual. He let go of Logan when the pan was dry so that he could put it away, then offered his hand. Logan took it and linked their fingers together.

Virgil swung their hands between them as they made their way from the kitchen to the living room, and when they made themselves comfortable on the sofa, he guided his husband’s head to rest on his shoulder. He wrapped an arm around Logan and handed him the remote—it was Logan’s turn tonight to pick what they watched. His husband nestled against him, scrolling through their Netflix profile (on Janus’s account) and selecting The Princess Bride.

Virgil half paid attention to the movie, but kept his attention on Logan, who slowly began to relax as he grew more absorbed in the film. The top of his head was perfectly positioned for Virgil to press kisses to it and bury his face in it, which was certainly an added bonus. Logan’s hair smelled of the product he combed through it every weekday to keep it neat and in place, a fresh and vaguely sprucey scent; his hair was not as soft as it was when it was freshly washed and had no product in it, but Virgil could hardly complain. Not when his husband was curled up against him, leaning a little more securely on him every time Virgil pressed kisses to the top of his head.

By the time Westley and Buttercup escaped the fire swamp only to fall back into Humperdinck’s hands, though, Virgil was pretty sure Logan’s focus had drifted away from the movie; his husband’s shoulders began to tense again, and he began fidgeting with the fringe of the throw blanket draped over the back of the couch.

Virgil tried to wait and see if Logan wanted to bring it up on his own. He really did. But it was hard; his husband being in distress was possibly the number one item on the list of things that made him anxious. Which was saying a lot.

He lasted for maybe another ten minutes before he reached for the remote and paused the movie. “Hey, babe?”

“Hmm?” Logan tipped his head back to make eye contact.

Virgil took the opportunity to lean down the inch or two necessary to peck him gently on the lips. “You good? You seem, uh, kind of stressed out.”

Logan’s eyes slid away from his at once, and his hands fisted in the blanket.

“You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to—” Virgil began at once, half panicking even though it was only Logan and he knew better.

“No,” Logan interrupted. “No, I—I think it would be—beneficial, to discuss.” His lips worked for a moment, trying to stifle a frown.

Virgil did not feel entirely satisfied with this. “Okay.” He shifted on the couch, turning his body inward to face more towards his husband. “I’m listening.”

Logan hesitated. “I… feel,” he said at last, haltingly, “like I made… a poor choice. At work. Today. In a social situation. And. I feel—bad. About it.”

“Okay,” Virgil said, mind racing, trying to figure out what kind of thing Logan could be talking about to have upset him this much. “That’s probably okay.”

Logan’s mouth turned downwards. “I don’t think it is.”

Virgil put one finger beneath Logan’s chin and tipped his face up gently, pressing their foreheads together. “Babe, what’s the matter?”

Logan reached to clasp both Virgil’s hands in his, drawing them up to cup Logan’s face. He closed his eyes and drew in a deep breath. “One of my coworkers was talking about her plan to surprise her boyfriend with an outing for his birthday,” he began.

“Okay…?” Virgil said.

“And then after that, several people began sharing stories about their significant others,” Logan went on, his voice getting quieter. “And someone asked me—if I had a girlfriend.”

“Ooooohhhhh,” Virgil breathed, at last beginning to see where the distress was sourced from.

“And I—” Logan swallowed and closed his eyes. “I said no. And—did not say anything else. And changed the subject.” One of his hands went to his sternum, where he wore his own ring on a necklace tucked under his shirt. He wore it there because he didn’t like hand jewelry, and when he wore teeshirts it often hung out on full display. But in the buttoned-up shirts he wore to work, it was tucked inside, where it could rest against his heart all day—and where, Virgil realized as Logan fell quiet and shrank in on himself, it was not visible to his coworkers.

Virgil was quiet for a second, trying to think of the best way to phrase himself. “Babe, do you think I’m going to be upset about that?” he asked at last.

Logan hesitated. “No,” he admitted, which was a relief. “But I—I think you should be.”

Virgil felt an almost physical pain in his chest at that. “Hon,” he said, soft, a little wounded.

“I could have said something,” Logan insisted. “I should have said something. I—I want to discourage heteronormativity, and I—I don’t think anything bad would have happened, I just—I didn’t know, and I—” His voice cracked. “I was scared,” he finished, with a great, shuddering exhale.

There it was. The root of the thing. Virgil leaned in and pressed a soft, slow kiss to Logan’s cheek. “That’s fine,” he said.

Logan sniffed loudly. “I disagree.”

“Babe, coming out is scary,” Virgil tried. “Even in the best of situations.”

“I know,” Logan admitted after a moment. “But—I feel like—it should be different now.” He traced a finger along Virgil’s wedding ring.

Virgil hummed acknowledgement, not quite sure what to respond to that with.

“I am not ashamed of loving you,” Logan said, pleading, like he thought Virgil needed to be persuaded of it. He clung to the front of Virgil’s shirt.

“Of course you’re not,” Virgil said at once, heart aching.

“But I was afraid,” Logan said. He swallowed again. “And—I am ashamed. That I was afraid to say that I love you.”

Virgil tugged his hand free of Logan’s, wrapped his arms around him, and gathered him close until he was properly hugging him. Logan slid his own arms gratefully around Virgil, squeezing a little too tight, and buried his face in Virgil’s shoulder.

“I like it when you feel safe,” Virgil said after a quiet moment or two. “Just so you know. It—it’s okay if you wish you’d felt more confident, or whatever, but—L, I know how much you love me.” He kissed the top of Logan’s head. “You show me every day. I don’t give a shit what your coworkers know or think about us.” He ran a hand up and down his husband’s back. “I think you feeling safe is way more important than Brittany or whoever knowing you’re gay.”

“Her name is Brandy,” Logan said in a small voice, somewhat muffled from how his face was hidden in the material of Virgil’s shirt.

“I—okay. I still don’t think she has any right to know anything about you or me unless you want her to. And unless you feel comfortable talking about it,” Virgil added quickly, foreseeing the next objection. “I know you love me, and I love you, and that’s—I mean, that’s kind of all I care about, babe.”

Logan was silent for a long moment, punctuated with a single sniffle. “Are you sure?” he whispered at last.

Virgil’s heart panged at the question. He squeezed his husband tight, pressing a kiss to his forehead. “No matter what happens. I’m sure,” he promised.

“Oh,” Logan said wetly, at the same moment as hot tears soaked through Virgil’s t-shirt onto his shoulder.

Virgil pressed his face into his husband’s hair. “It’s okay, babe,” he whispered soothingly, holding him tight. “It’s okay. It’s gonna be okay.”

And he meant it.

You said that you had seen a lot of people putting piercings and stuff on the sides that didn't necessarily make sense, and that it was a special interest of yours. Do you have opinions on what would be cool/interesting/possible for the sides, and could you share them?

Well man if we are going by Thomas’ anatomy, then there is a few things he would be able to get.

Using this shitting image idk he wouldn’t really be able industrial just because of that little bump in his ear. He’s got a good curve tho it’s open enough to have a crown like shape like this

And he would GENUINELY look SO GOOD with a rook of daith I mean come on

Pretty much this is what I would recommend if you want piercings to be accurate to Thomas

The red ones are maybes. His ear lobe is a weird enough shape that he could put too more, but they would be separated. And the orbital and tragus are just cool and would be nice if done correctly.

If you want to see like face piercings just send me another ask this is kinda long already and I’m not even done lmao

If you don’t really care about that or you want some human au piercings, you have to take in account the way you draw them. I see some people draw very deviated noses with bridge and septum piercings which wouldn’t work or would get very infected and rejected. Certain piercings that take work or have certain risks would need to be taken in account too. Labret and philtrum piercings (snake and spider bites, medusas, smileys) can cause damage to gums and teeth so those aren’t something sides that care deeply about their appearance would get.

Also think about hoops if they are fresh piercings. They do not heal well. After healing is fine tho.

Hears what I believe each side would maybe get and probably not get. These are just what I think via the personality and aesthetic they have, but if you don’t NEED to listen to me, I’m just talking lmao.

Patton - I believe he’d have an appreciation for piercings, but I don’t believe he would get any. Maybe classic lobes, but I believe he’d only have clip ons or fake rings.

Logan - Previously, I said I don’t think he’d ever get anything more than lobes because he’d think they were unprofessional, but I think now he would maybe get a few stacks and flats on the cartilage, but small and simple. No face or body piercings.

Roman - He’d definitely wear a bunch of funky earrings. He would look SO good with stacked lobes too, but if you want him to wear large and flashy jewelry, he’d have to have the simple one lobe. I imagine his ears would look a lot more interesting than his face. Maybe one simple nose piercing, but I don’t think he’d poke too many holes in his face.

Remus - This little shit wouldn’t care about “anatomy” for his piercings. He’d stab himself and jab shit in and if they reject, they reject!! I gave him a lot of piercings that wouldn’t work for Thomas’ anatomy, but Remus would love to have them bc he has close to no care for himself. He’d definitely have face piercings and I wouldn’t put it past him to get a few dermals and surface piercings too. Go nuts with this guy.

Janus - Canonically?? I also don’t believe he’d have much. He’d have some classy piercings like fancy little dangles in his lobes and a helix and/or rook (I just love the thought of Thomas in a rook okay). Nothing on the face just because idk have it would be piercing scales lol. Human wise, similar to Remus except he’d actually care about his body lmao. I did give him some labret piercings, but I think he’d take care of himself enough to have them.

Virgil - This guy is a tricky one lmao. I definitely think he would want them, but would worry himself ragged. He’d get them because he likes them, then take them out outta fear. I’d imagine him getting almost every one, but again taking them out, but keeping lobes in. Stretched lobes would be good for him. He could put in gauges or hang heavy earrings, it would work well for his worrying but edgy persona.

In a nutshell. Conflicted. ESPECIALLY if you swap all the other sides too. I feel like Janus and Virgil would be supportive but concerned because DS Logan is much more orderly and strict, they just want LS Remmus to be happy though. A swapside Patton and Roman would nearly feel betrayed by DS Logan "fraternizing with a light side" almost.

Also the whole "why are you dating my brother???" Thing is weird in all universes for Roman lmao.

Logan has the knowledge, and Remus has enough stupid chaotic energy to do it. They dont care, and it can lead to some chilling moments.

They genuinely want to look after the other. While DS Logan is cold, LS Remus doesnt give up easily and hes. Uh. Persistently annoying, so he just never leaves him alone, so he learned Logan and knows how to make him happy. While because of his persistence, Logan has grown protective over someone who put in the effort to get to know him. The others would think Remus is Logan little puppet, but Logan would do anything for Remus.

4. Something you are SURE they'd do that hasn't been intrudced or obvious in y'all's vids?

Repeat from above. DS Logan is very protective of Remus. Not possessive because he knows Remus is his own happy chaotic bubble. But. If anyone dared hurt him. Or step over his boundaries. Logan would make it so they were never going to make that mistake again.

They talk a lot.

5. What do you think their sexualities/gender would be? The same as cannon, or would they shift?

Probably the same, I don't think canon or light side remus give either a fuck about those and canon and dark side Logan dont care enough to really do much about it. They like what they like and honestly its open to interpretation.

6. The most important thing about their dynamic?

It is basically a 24/7 dom/sub relationship. That's the point of the collars in the videos, to show Remus is willing deferring his power over to Logan while wearing it. And Logan has accepted and willing taken responsibility for it.

It would make a lot of people think it's an abusive relationship, how much Logan orders Rmeus around and how he just does it. But it's a power dynamic they are both consenting to. Remus could easily take the collar off.

7. How do you think they'd affect Thomas if they were switched sides?

If Remus was Thomas's light side, hed probably have a more fucked up sense of humor and might have darker themes in his videos. If Logan was Thomas's dark side Logic, again, Thomas would have a lot of knowledge he probably shouldnt have.

DS Logan: too black and white thinking. If it doesn't make sense, then it doesn't matter.

LS Remus: warfstache mentality. It's all a joke and game.

DS Logan: Calm and efficient, great for grounding and remembering.

Big Time Rush Season 1, Episode 1: "Big Time Audition" PART 1

Well, here we go! I'm super excited to be revisiting this show after so many years. I was so deep in the fandom back when the show was on, but it feels like going into it with a blank slate at this point. I have no idea what the fandom is like anymore and also forgot so many of the episodes. Ugh, I wish I could remember what my BTR blog from like 2011 used to be called (and if it even still exists; I might have deleted it). It'd be so cool to take a look at it.

I'm gonna try to just jump right in here. A few things first: I'll be pausing the episodes perodically as I watch in order to write up my posts on here, so it'll be a very "real-time" depiction of my experience, lol. Posts will also always be put under a "read more" on account of length.

Y'all the smile on my face at just the beginning few seconds of the episode. It brings me right back to 2009, watching the premiere with my sister. And I love how there's really no time wasted in making it loud and clear what each of the boys' roles are in the group and what their personalities are like.

Kendall's first line is literally a little motivational pep talk. He's trying to motivate them to do something that's going to get them into trouble, but still...it's in character. (btw, I will absolutely be focusing in on Kendall's character development—and my criticisms of it—as I move through the series)

Anyway, continuing on down the line: Logan counters Kendall's words with math, thus promptly labeling him as The Nerd of the group. Carlos jumps at the chance to cause some chaos (very Carlos. he was my favorite, btw) and James is just not paying attention to any of it. He's just standing there preening.

James is another one who changes a good deal from this first episode, I think. I mean, if I'm remembering correctly, he stays sort of self-absorbed and concerned with his looks, but not quite to THIS degree.

Also, the guys all work well together and fit, but I can't help but wonder how this group came together. It's such an oddball mixture of extreme personalities that you'd be hard-pressed to find in real life. In fact, if it were real life, they probably wouldn't be able to tolerate each other at all, let alone be friends. But that's the beauty of the show.

They do all eventually help Carlos turn the sprinklers on.

Troublemakers. Oh! And I spy plaid on Kendall. He wears plaid in like every episode, doesn't he? I remember that being a thing.

Logan's hair looks very dark. Was it dyed for this episode? I don't remember it being that dark.

I'm only ONE MINUTE into this episode. Yikes; these are going to be long posts, aren't they?

Yes, Carlos gives James the helmet right before they get pummeled by the mob of angry girls! Kendall knows James has to protect his face! Just a little over a minute in, and we have a leader of the group firmly established.

I love him.

Meanwhile, the guys are nursing their injuries back at Kendall's house. It's so funny to me the way that Kendall seems to have the rest of them (mainly Carlos?) "trained" in a way? He tells Carlos to give James the helmet, and Carlos does do without hesitation. Then, when James starts dancing on the couch, all he has to do is say Carlos's name, and Carlos tackles James to the floor.

But when you've got a group of buddies like that, someone has to step up and take the reins, and that someone is Kendall Knight.

Look at these goofballs smiling as Carlos and James beat each other up.

The FLIP PHONES

Amazing. This show already kind of feels like a fun little time capsule.

I'd be remiss to not talk about this specific moment (when James and Carlos are throwing hands again) that I recall the fandom latching onto back in the day. As things start spiraling and glass starts flying, Logan simply calls Kendall's name, and Kendall immediately runs to Logan's side.

This is the point in which I probably start overanalyzing, but. Well, that's half the fun of this project, isn't it?

It speaks volumes about who Kendall is, what his role is in the group, and how the other three (especially Logan) look at him. Things are getting out of hand, and Logan is overwhelmed. So what does he do? Simply call for Kendall to take control and fix it. Because that's who Kendall is, right? He's Mr. Hold Everyone Together, Fix Everything All the Time, Carry the World on His Shoulders Guy.

I'll be delving more in that in future posts, I'm sure. Many thoughts.

Also, can we talk about how James and Carlos are just. Destroying Mrs. Knight's home?? Throwing things and about to hit each other with a lamp and a...whisk?? Is that what Carlos has? As a kid, I was like, "ahahaha, funny," but now I'm like, "I hope Mama Knight made those boys pay for every item they ever broke while in her house."

I was originally going to break this up into just 2 parts, but it's already pretty long, and I don't even know if anyone will read it, so I'm going to wrap it up right here for now. I'm sure once I get into the actual series, the posts will be shorter, but there's a lot of ground being laid in this episode, and I'm also still finding my footing on this blog.

Wrote a little story to go along with it.

Story is below the ‘Keep Reading’ line.

*/M Tickle Fic (Obviously lol) "Any other surprise challenges for me today, bub? Or is that all ya got?" Wolverine smirked confidently up at the team leader of the X-men, glancing over his shoulder at the pile of rubble consisting of destroyed weaponry and dismembered sentinels and robots of all sizes. Cyclops only sighed as he shook his head and looked down at the Canadian brawler from the control room of their training facility, having exhausted almost every combination of attacks that he could think to throw at him.

These scenarios of Wolverine slicing and dicing up every obstacle and foe were quite predictable and honestly getting a tad boring to watch over and over. Scott decided it was time to try something a little different. "No, this just isn't working. These upper level programs are just all foreseeable for you. Lets try something new. I say we scrap everything and start over from scratch. How about we start you at level 1?"

Logan's smirk disappeared as he frowned up at the other man. "Level 1? Yer kiddin' me, right? That's the program the Professor uses to train the kiddies."

"Trust me Logan it'll be perfect for you. Since you've always skipped over the bottom levels you'll have no idea what they contain so you won't be able to predict them so easily. Hell I don't even know myself exactly what is on each level, but lets give it a shot! Maybe we'll both learn something." Scott actually wasn't lying since he himself had been too competent for those beginner programs when he had joined the X-men. It was likely that Logan would just blow right through them, but he was curious and quite frankly desperate for a change of pace. "Fine. But this is gonna be just a waste o' time," Logan grumbled as he lazily stretched out his arms and cracked his neck. "Don't underestimate the Danger Room and dismiss this program so easily. It may be aimed towards the less experienced, but should still provide its own formidable experience. Remember to stay alert and don't let your guard down." Wolverine just scoffed and blew off his advice like he normally did. "Yeah whatever Slim. Lets get on with it."

"Ok great. Now just a moment here. I'm initiating level 1....," Scott uttered with some fast typing on the control board before pressing one final button, "Now." They waited for a few quiet moments, but nothing happened. Logan was about to quip some sarcastic remark when finally the Danger Room began to show some activity. A compartment on the wall opened and two gloved robotic hands being controlled by metal tentacles began to slowly make their way over to him. Logan snorted in disbelief and shook his head as he looked over the two appendages and noted that they were not holding any kinds of weapons; basically looking completely harmless.

"That's it? This is ridiculous. What's next, a pillow fight? Not that I expected this crap to be any kinda challenge whatsoever," Logan rolled his eyes as he raised his hands into the air and released his deadly claws; ready to dispatch the advancing robot hands with a quick swipe once they closed in. Not even a second later he quickly found his arms ensnared as two metal tentacles had crept in from behind to successfully restrain him much to Logan's shock. He growled as he tried to slice at the tentacles with his sharp claws, but they firmly held his arms away from each other just above his head. The distraction had been just enough that he barely had time to notice that the gloved hands had now reached him as one of them wasted not a moment to grab hold of the hem of his uniform's shirt and roughly jerk it upwards, exposing his bare stomach.

"Hey! What is...?!" He shouted in confusion; his words cut off as the other hand immediately shot forward and buried it's furiously wriggling digits right into his muscular belly.

Logan hadn't listened to Scott. He had let his guard down completely when he had seen this "threat" first enter the room. His overconfidence was now going to be his downfall for mocking the capabilities of the robot hand; the hand that was now ruthlessly tickling him. This tactic was a complete shock to him, and having not put up any of his mental defenses in preparation the laughter exploded out of him as soon as contact was made. "Ahahahaahaa! Wha-Whahahat's goin' ohohohon?! Stahahap thaaat!" He howled out at the mindless hand that relentlessly continued tickling all over his sensitive abdomen; the other hand holding his shirt securely out of the way. Scott too was in complete awe by just what method the program had decided to use, though he couldn't help but grin as he saw the situation that his normally cantankerous teammate was now in. It was already a known fact by the mansion's inhabitants that Logan was surprisingly ticklish as his female team members found it quite endearing and took great delight in ganging up on the burly mutant at times. Heightened senses did have their drawbacks. Still nothing that Scott himself would partake in, knowing that while Logan might put up with it from the ladies he was pretty sure he'd be skewered on the spot if he even made a hint at attempting such a thing. In a way he now felt that he had a sense of power in having Logan in this position. "See? That's what happens when you underestimate the situation, now get to work Logan. Tickling probably isn't a real world offensive that you're going to run into, but no harm in being extra prepared." Wolverine's claws remained out, but he couldn't move his arms enough to free himself. Unable to think straight he continued to fail in his efforts to come up with a strategy to get out of this aside from yelling up at the amused operator in the control room. "Cyyyykehehehee! Tuhuhurn thihis shihihihiiit ohahahahoff!!" Arms bulging he thrashed uselessly in the grip of the tentacles, trying to block the torturous hand from his body by lifting his knee to no avail. He'd been tickled worse than this before, but never had he been this helpless to defend himself. Meanwhile Scott mused over the scene before him. It in fact was a little stupid to be messing with one of the world's deadliest mutant's like this, and he was pretty sure there would be Hell to pay later. His hand hovered momentarily over the button to shut down the Danger Room, but then he pulled back. "No, I think you just need a little more time to figure this out. I have faith in you. I mean, this program is only used to train the 'kiddies', right?" Yup. He was pretty sure Logan was going to kill him after this. "Fuhuhuhuck yooooouuuu!!" Logan cackled as he desperately tried to regain some kind of focus though was only barely able to retract his claws back into his hands, knowing that they were of no use. "Aw c'mon Logan. You're not that ticklish, are you? Can't resist just one little hand tickling you?" Scott couldn't help but tease a bit, having on more than one occasion seen Logan nearly lose his mind from just having his stomach tickled by his teenage sidekick, Jubilee. No sooner had he said that when a third hand began to move in from out of Logan's sight before grabbing the squirming mutant right below his ribs as the fingers playfully dug in over and over again.

"Bwahahahahahahahahaa!! Noooo!! Gehehet 'em offa meeheeheehee!!" Roaring with laughter from the added torture Logan was regretting not taking the lowest level of the Danger Room more seriously. With his arms being held out of the way he couldn't even use them to help guard his body no matter how hard he pulled to free them. It wasn't much longer before his legs began to weaken as he attempted to sink to the floor to hopefully get him a split second of reprieve.

He was allowed to move to the ground, but the hands were unrelenting. With a firm tug the restraining tentacles around his forearms pulled him down onto his back as a few more hands now appeared seemingly out of nowhere to join in tickling under his arms and the other side of his ribcage.

"No!! No!! Stahahahap ihihihihit!! Lemme outtahahaha heeheeheeeere!!" The Wolverine howled as he kicked and squirmed like crazy; his armpits being one of his worst spots. Two other metal tentacles quickly slithered over and grabbed onto each leg to stretch him out and prevent him from curling up in defense. Tears crept out of the corners of his eyes from laughing so hard as so far he had made no progress in getting loose. "Very disappointing Logan. I thought for sure you'd have passed all these lower levels with ease. Well it seems we've uncovered your true weakness. Something that your healing factor won't protect you from. We'll probably have to repeat this level over and over until you get it right," Scott grinned wider, only half serious as he liked to push Logan's buttons at any given opportunity. He was hardly listening though; too focused on the incessant tickle torture. Just when he thought it couldn't get any worse two additional hands made their way over and quickly tugged off his boots, revealing his twitching bare feet as Logan's eyes bulged in panic. "HEY!! Hey hey waahaahaait a m...minute!! No don't!! Not the-AAAHAHAHHAHAHA!!" Fingers wildly scratched at his tender soles, tickling from his wide heels to up under his curled up toes with not a thing he could do to stop them. He was laughing harder than he'd ever had as the tears began to roll down his cheeks. He absolutely could not handle having his feet tickled and once had accidentally kicked Rogue for trying. Luckily she is a tough woman though she used it as an excuse to really punish him with his ankles trapped in the crook of her super strong arm while Logan hysterically cried 'Uncle'. This was more than he could stand. Being spread out and tickled in all his most sensitive spots at once with no way to guard himself was where he drew the line. He loathed the thought of what he was about to do, but he couldn't hold back the frantic pleas that came pouring out. "NAAAHAHAHAHAHOOOO!! N-NO MORE!! STOPSTOP!! PLEEHEEHEEEEASE!! I CAN'T..HAHAHAHAHAA..CAAHAAHAAN'T T-TAKE THIHIHIIS SHIIIIIT!!" Scott was just enjoying the show as he chuckled and shook his head in disbelief. "Wow. Who knew? All one has to do to defeat Wolverine is to tickle him and he'll be begging for mercy. Better hope none of your enemies ever find out about this one."

And with that he finally pushed the button to shut down the currently running program in the Danger Room. He'd have been more than happy to let it keep going, but even he could feel some sympathy for his frenemy and knew once he started begging that he had had enough. Logan instantly panted in relief as the hands all stopped tickling him while he was gently released from the restraints, everything then retracting back into the chambers that they had emerged from. A giggle escaped him here and there as he still had a phantom feeling of the fingers all over on his body.

Scott slowly clapped his hands in jest from the control room as he grinned down at the seemingly lifeless body. "Not bad, Logan! I think you almost had it there, but I'm sure you'll do better next time! So what do you think? Ready for level 2?"

The middle claw that immediately popped out of Logan's fist crudely gave him his answer.

okay i'm already procrastinating and i don't plan on sleeping any time soon so here we go.

☆ ✩ my personal ranking for every season 1 Sanders Sides episode. ✩ ☆

i think it's going to be pretty similar to @dukeofonions' but let's see if i find something new to contribute haha. i see you didn't include that one about Patton in the Big Game or whatever, so i'm not including it either xd. also i think i'm going to count Accepting Anxiety as one episode only.

edit: i finished and now i dare you to drink a shot of water every time i say the word spanish or a version of the word comfort and become very well hydrated.

#16 I'm in a Disney Show

(i agree with dukeofonions here) i always forget this episode exists. it was ok in terms of being happy for real life Thomas but as a Sanders Sides episode it didn't do anything. the sides were just giving their opinions but it wasn't very funny or interesting. also i'm bitter because it made me look up the episode he was in and i didn't like it at all. i don't know if i'm too old for those Disney shows now but Thomas was literally the only good part of it, everything else was really dull and boring imo. a waste of time.

however, Logan supporting clickbait is one of the funniest things ever, and i'll never forget it.

#15 Becoming A Cartoon

i didn't hate this episode but it was just .. meh.. you know? several factors contribute to this. one, i couldn't feel much nostalgia for Butch Hartman's shows because i watched them in Spanish, and everything feels really weird when they speak English, i don't like how my old cartoons sound in English. two, it was disappointing to me because we were all desperately waiting for Plot™ and instead they give us this short episode about nothing (oh how the tables have turned now it's the other way around haha). and three, i didn't like the style of the animation :/ their faces and expressions freaked me out, Roman's douchey face still haunts me.

#14 Way Too Adult

here i'm biased because i don't like Patton much, and i didn't back when i watched the series the first time either, so this video was a little disappointingwithout the rest. also it wasn't relatable to me because i am still too young and dependent on my parents haha. but Patton is funny and it's funny to laugh at Thomas' struggling.

#13 The Dark Side of Disney

i've never been a fan of Disney movies. i actually never watched Mulan or the Lion King or Aladdin as a kid, so meh. i liked the ending, though, it was cool to see Virgil have fun and be right for once. it does make me a bit uncomfortable because the way Thomas tries too hard with Virgil's mouth movements and his low voice reminds me of a guy that had made me v uncomfortable not long before watching that video. so an icky feel overall.

#12 A New Year of Lying to Myself

this video was actually kind of fogettable to me. i had a hard time connecting the voices in the song to the characters and idk. i don't love it nor hate it, just .. neutral.

#11 My True Identity

pretty much the same opinion as dukeofonions, again. it's a good introduction and it's good that it was the beginning of it all but on its own it's not very special. i think it's awesome on Thomas to have come up with such a clever idea, like choosing the dad, the teacher and the prince and putting them together and match them with thoughts?? that fit so perfectly?? it really is just very impressive when you think about it, that it was just a random idea he had for a short 5 minute video.

#10 Taking on Anxiety

i liked this video a lot because when i watched it i had recently been a lot on tumblr, and found out through relatable posts that i had anxiety. so watching this video was really fun and it made me happy to feel so seen, specially the intro when Thomas just talks about what it's like to have Anxiety and Virgil is so smug about it.

okay now that those are out of the way things are going to get hard... all the following i love with all my heart so i'm going to rank them based on the smallest things.

#9 Growing Up

once more, Patton isn't my favorite. so that's why i'm putting this here, plus the echo at the end askjhsahg, but i love love this video. i remember we were waiting and oh so ready for the angst of nobody taking Patton seriously. and we received!! i love that though Roman and Logan are antagonists here, they're both so happy about Thomas wanting to have a healthy life. and i just adore the way Logan admits his mistake at the end and asks Patton directly. my heart... also aw.. the nostalgia. i remember none of us knew how to spell Patton's name and were writing it in very funny ways until Thomas and Joan told us lol.

#8 The Mind vs The Heart

when i watched this video the first times i didn't like it much, because i only had eyes for Virgil, but later i came back to it and loved it. so taking that into account i'm putting it here. logicality was the first ship i ever shipped in the show because i saw a gifset on tumblr of Patton screaming "what do you know about love?!" and Logan "apparently more than YOU" and the caption said "MARRIED", and i thought hey yeah... anyway. i love them. they're both my dads since that day.

this video is so so so relatable and i love it. Logan and Patton are so much fun arguing and i love how they compromise at the end and work together. im reconsidering.. i might move it higher? no, fine i'll leave it here.

#7 Making Some Changes

this video was absolutely hilarious. i personally couldn't see it as the Sides still once they were acted by Thomas' friends, i enjoyed it more as that bunch being silly and trying to be the sides but failing in so many ways, while sometimes nailing stuff suddenly. i really don't take this one too seriously as an episode. except Joan!Logan and Valerie!Logan, my beloved... i love how Joan acted as Logan and their voice and that they kept their ace ring on.. there's a reason i had them as my icon for so long. and Valerie looks a bit (a lot) like me with the glasses and dressed in dark colors, plus she spoke Spanish and there's .. no words to describe the joy i felt when seeing/hearing that. wait i'm getting emotional...

#6 My Personality Q&A

when i watched this Virgil was my favorite side and i didn't care much about the rest lol. when i heard his answers i related to him SO much it was scary, and also his voice is so soft and it was all very comforting. it was also when i first starting looking at Logan with more attention, because when he brought up Big Hero 6 and Fall Out Boy and said he didn't sing and would recite it like a poem? it only took a couple seconds but my brain said "me" and never went back.

now this video is a little underwhelming to watch for me, most of the appeal for me was in finding out the answers, and also watching it when we didn't know a lot about the sides. now we know more and want to know more so it's not as fun to me as it was first.

i wish so bad they'd do another one, although i know it would be more difficult with a much bigger audience, i think they can manage and i just need it. the chaos.. the energy.. they all being so savage with each other, learning little random facts about them you didn't expect.. i need it.

oh boy top 5 here we go. the next three are practically a tie. i can't choose.

#5 Alone on Valentines Day

i love Valerie, and the idea of this video was perfect and so perfectly excecuted. every side just giving their crazy opinions on how to woo a random stranger, i laughed SO much. first with Logan speaking simlish out of nowhere? at that point i didn't know practically anything about the sims except that it was some video game and the whiplash of Logan going AYO and the rest killed me. then when Roman whipped out that dialogue in Spanish??? my life was completed. i've never felt more happy than i did in that moment gosh. just the hilarity of Roman's drama, the shock of them speaking Spanish suddenly like that, the absolute JOY of seeing a creator i like speak (may i say) perfect Spanish, the other characters' faces after that.. never been happier.

also the conclusion was so cute. Virgil solving the whole problem without wanting to. i loved it.

#4 Am I Original

i think this video speaks for itself. it was fun to watch them all do the ideas Roman had, plus Logan and Virgil nodding at each other, (i love them so much), plus the angst at the end of Roman's perfectionism, plus Roman's just perfect name. this video has it all.

i think Thomas posted it kind of late at night and i watched it at 7am in the classroom as i waited for my classmates to arrive and the class to start. (i usually was like 40 minutes early to school due to mom’s work). i had to contain my laughter and it wasn’t easy.

#3 Losing My Motivation

i started loving this video after a while, when Logan passed Virgil in the position for my favorite side. but once he did this episode was beautiful. it's so funny and i love Logan and Patton's dynamic so much. and the video also so damn relatable in general. i felt so seen with it because they named all the problems i have when procrastinating, down to Patton's vague explanation of his feelings, it's exactly how i feel every time i want to do stuff. and the plot twist! i can hear the dramatic sound effect and see how they all turn to Logan clearly in my head, and it always makes me smile. plus there's so much Logan angst that can be dug up and overanalized. i love to watch it over and over.

#2 Accepting Anxiety

this video was perfect. everything we wanted. we knew it was coming and it delivered perfectly, better than any fanfic done in the waiting time. the week between the parts was agonizing but in a fun way somehow. i remember precisely when i was watching part 2 in my living room. i screamed. and i cried, a lot. i was feeling terrible at that time in my life and Thomas was such a comforting presence and i can't begin to describe how this episode made me feel.

and later it is always fun to rewatch with all their different reactions to being in Virgil's room, the energy of that was on point. Thomas is such a great actor and the characters where just amazingly performed. plus it gave so much to talk adn think about, the idea of the rooms, lots lots of insight into the characters, foreshadowing, so much. it's just perfect i have nothing else to say.

#1 (for purely emotional reasons, ironically) My Negative Thinking

i think Accepting Anxiety is the best episode of the season objectively but my favorite is My Negative Thinking. because i love Virgil and Logan so much and seeing them argue together was and is great. the comfort.. i can't repeat that word enough throughout this post. it's such a soft video while not being overwhelming with Patton and Roman's outbursts. just quiet (mostly) and clear and with perfectly timed humour.

Logan my beloved.. learning spanish... helping me with my own anxiety.. and their debate was so good. and the fact that they were friends i- i can't. Virgil didn't think Logan liked him and Logan told him explicitly that he did and the casual softness of it i cant even. Logan is happy that he tried.. it's just marvelous. Virgil and Logan as best friends will always be my favorite pair, and their dynamic will always be what i strive for in any relationship i might form, with both sides silently comforting each other within their own limits and realistic perspectives. so nice.

AHHHH I'M SO HAPPY. like you know how I always wanted the lead role! I finally got it. And Janus finally didn't get it! Like finally as if he is that good of an actor. I deserve it I worked for it! Patton said I worked for the audition more than all school work last year probably true lol

ALSO Logan is now doing the big quizes. He won the school one and now goes national. He is such a nerd!!! But honestly it's cool! He was missing a school day for a quiz like I want that too for plays!

Well Honestly that's all that happened. Sorry that's so short! But I don't have much time next to the play!

Just yesterday I found the city we drew at my room wall. My closet stood there for the longest time. But OMG do you rember us 5 year Olds doing that?! We felt like the biggest artist ever. That was fun. I miss that.

College is so stressful! I couldn't just take acting, no, the other class I had to take was a language and that's so hard. But hey now I can speak a bit spanish

In all honestly college is draining. Maybe it's just the first year. But it's so overwhelming. You always told me that about school Guess now I can feel it.

And yeah that's fucking tiring. Oof. Let's hope it's gets better. Princes go to bad times and get out even stronger!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Rember when I told you that writing so many things feel wrong?

Well I figured it out.

I was still in denial.

I didn't want to touch on anything that would make it to clear that you are gone.

It's silly, I know I know.

But acting as if I'm having a very one sided, yearly email exchange is better than realising facts. You are dead. For four years now.

And I, well I couldn't, didn't want to, see it. It's easier to ignore. Ignorance is bliss and all that.

And talking about anything in more detail would make it clear, you are gone. Crazy, right?

I still struggle with college by the way. I feel like I need to always be perfect, but learning a language is so hard, I just want to major in drama.

I also haven't seen Patton or Logan in the last few weeks. The curse of different colleges. I guess that makes it harder too. You know me, I love being with my friends.

I'm a bit scared that they forget me. They nearly never talk about you, so forgetting me isn't to far away, right?

Well.. Let's hope for the best.

I don't know if you ever noticed, probably not, I had the biggest crush on you. How cliché, I know you don't like them, but I do. I planned in my head that picture percent future. I daydreamed about that quiet a lot. Then the call came. Your mother called us to come to the hospital. I did come, so did Logan and Patton, and she told us the doctors are trying to safe you. From yourself, basically. You couldn't do it anymore. And killed yourself. And my daydreams too. But even though you are dead. I know that. The day dreams for what futures we could have had don't leave. From celebrities to farms on the country side.

I know I told you that already, but I miss you. I love you. I'm sorry. I feel like I should have picked up something. I day-dream about being your knight in charming armor because I failed to do it in real life.

I wish I could have helped you.

like Logan as an accounting or printing apprentice at some fancy business (maybe a fashion-centered business?), and he’s from a much poorer part of the city, outside of downtown, and Janus as a tailor’s apprentice at the same business and his family is much more well off and he’s a little uppity but still pretty chill and they judge customers together

and Pat’s family owns the orchard outside of downtown, and maybe uhh the twins are the sons of some rich businessman who like to hang out downtown, Schuyler sister style, and Virge idk works at a printing press or on the orchard or smth it’s late and my brain isnt working aksdsklfl

Roman and Janus have just the most flawless vibes for waltzing to record player music that you’d use the word “croon” about. it’s immaculate 

i have this theory that Remus really likes the ocean. and i know most everyone else does too bc his thing is the kraken or squids or octopi or whatever but HOW COOL would it be if his room had like a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows that overlooked a bleak tempestuous ocean with choppy waves and dark skies?? how could would that be

i like to think Roman has days where ideas are so vivid in his head but he cannot for the life of him manage to communicate them effectively so he just kinda sits and ruminates on them for a while to himself. one of the others walks into his room to see him staring at the ceiling with Matt Maltese playing full volume and they just politely walk right back out

if Roman vibes with a song then he just plays it on repeat for the next week. he does not realize not everyone does this until Janus threatens to ban the song in question from the household entirely.

Logan will pull out his phone to google anything at any time. a word, where a phrase came from, scientific inquiries, anything anywhere anytime. no knowledge can escape him

Remus does the same thing but the question is always “is there fanfiction of this”

the answer is, somehow, always yes. he then proceeds to read it out to the entire famILY 

and if the answer is ever no is 100% ready to write the fanfiction himself
