I am so very bad at actually doing these things, but I was tagged by the lovely and talented @gavotteangel, so I finally got off my butt and went to town.
Fanfic Writer 20 Questions!
1. how many works do you have on ao3? A measly 31. But in my defense, I’m ancient, so I have posted at least twice as many on LiveJournal back in the day.
2. what’s your total ao3 word count? 162,236
3. how many fandoms have you written for and what are they? Six are represented on AO3, including a mix of various RPF fandoms, Hannibal, Law and Order: SVU, A Series of Unfortunate Events, and recently Loki. But back in my teenage years I wrote fic in the Lord of the Rings fandom, Harry Potter, and as I got older even more diverse RPF, mostly centered around US political media and, uh... Top Gear. Look, I have a past, okay, leave me alone.
4. what are your top five fics by kudos?

5. do you respond to comments? why or why not? Almost always. If you took the time to comment, I will take the time to say thank you. Especially when I get the really juicy comments, like those that quote favourite lines and stuff. I love those comments, they’re so helpful!
6. what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? I’m really bad at following through on angst, I wrap that shit up with a vaguely happy ending. That said, Control You is pretty bad. It’s also locked, because I lock RPF religiously. kill them; kill them with fire is technically still a WIP, so it doesn’t count, although it’s some of the angstiest fic I’ve written.
7. do you write crossovers? Not so much these days, but I used to
8. have you ever received hate on a fic? Oh yes, before the US Pundit fandom hid all the RPF away in secret, thoroughly locked LJ communities, there were some pretty ugly instances of hate going around.
9. do you write smut? if so, what kind? Ahahaha, yes, I do. 23 of those 31 fics are rated E. And it was the same back on LJ.
10. have you ever had a fic stolen? Not as far as I know.
11. have you ever had a fic translated? I’ve received requests for a couple of fics to be translated into Russian. I gave my permission, but I have no idea if they followed through with it.
12. have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes. Way back when I was 18 I had a 42 year old BFF from California who shared my brand of absurd humour and we co-wrote a sprawling 20K+ Pundit RPF comedy zombie AU, where we took turns writing the chapters as we went along, playing off what the other person had written in the previous chapter. I was a great experience, like the fic equivalent of improv comedy groups. An entire story based on ‘yes, and...’ as a concept.
13. what’s your all-time favorite ship? I can’t possibly answer that question, I’m a bit of a whore in this respect. I mix and match. Although judging from my AO3 account it’s ChillyWilly and Barisi, and it’s true that I love those ships.
14. what’s a wip that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will? kill them; kill them with fire probably. It’s a ASOUE Zombie AU with stand-alone chapters focusing on different characters in different locations, but in a vaguely chronological order. Can you tell that I adore zombie AUs? Anyway, I was very proud of this one, because this particular zombie apocalypse is totally “realistic” in-universe. It takes an existing killer-fungus danger and replaces ‘certain death’ being the result of infection with ‘zombies’ being the result. So yes, it’s The Last of Us-style “zombies”. I actually stole the terminology from there as well, because I couldn’t be bothered with creating too much lore. I never care about the actual zombie horror anyway, I care about the human reaction to a deadly crisis.
15. what are your writing strengths? A writer I admired very much in ye olden days once told me that I was good at blending genres and moods organically, in those day it was combinations of action, humour, and smut. She then asked me, me, for advice on a fic. I still think about that every single time I feel down.
16. what are your writing weaknesses? Definitely a tendency for overly detailed, flowery, self-indulgently elaborate prose. I spent years forcing myself to use a plain ‘said’ more often, because God knows I struggled with the concept from the beginning. And commas. So many commas. I often joke that Ernest Hemingway would fucking deck me if he was alive and reading my stuff. Oscar Wilde would you rather discuss writing with? Case closed.
17. what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in another language? I think it’s fine in controlled doses, especially if you consult native speakers to confirm that google translate isn’t about to make you look really silly to native speakers of the language in question.
18. what was the first fandom you ever wrote for? Lord of the Rings, I think? At least in English. I was 14 when the first film came out, so it was around then. It was really bad. English is my second language, and my grammar... left something to be desired. Okay, technically I wrote fic for The Hobbit first, because our teacher was pretty cool when it came to assigning various writing challenges, and in this case he made us all write fanfic that should be a twist on the pretty anticlimactic (according to him) ending of the book. I proceeded to literally kill off half the dwarves in a gruesome Smaug-fight. Very indiscriminately, I might add. Completely random. Just piling up dead, scorched dwarves for shits and giggles.
19. what’s your favorite fic you’ve ever written? Okay, bear with me here, but I’m just really proud of Young Police Cadet Bottoms for Busty Blonde. Probably the smuttiest smut I’ve ever written. I enjoyed every second of the writing process, I had a wonderful time, and it lives up to its title in terms of balls to the wall PWP insanity. A Guide to Recognizing Your Ghosts and Unfortunate Living Arrangements are also up there, because I’m still a Chilton fangirl at heart.

Catch Up Meme

Three ships:
I don't know, I'm not in a very shippy mood at the moment... I guess I'll go with things I've recently seen where I saw a connection between two characters.
* I'm friendship shipping Lyra and Will from His dark materials. I love seeing how they support each other and work so well together. They really have each others backs completely.
* Benji and his sweet emo boyfriend Lukas from Björnstad. Lukas is the complete opposite of the guys Benji spends time with and you can tell it's where he can really let down his guard and be himself.
* And then my fav ships that never really changes... Natalie/Henry, Liz/Josh, Kate/Anne, Lucas/David. I think Lena/Daniel from Så som I himmelen has snuck into that list too... The more I think about their relationship, the more I see how good it really is.

Currently watching:
I have watched quite a lot of series during the holidays, here's three that each had something special about them.
* Björnstad (Beartown) is a Swedish mini series set in the north of Sweden in a small town where most things and peoples lives are connected to the local ice hockey club. I never thought I would watch a series about ice hockey (since I don't get ice hockey at all) But it's about so much more than hockey. It's really the story about the people of a small town and what happens to them and the whole town when something big and traumatic happens that has connections to the junior hockey team. It sounds a bit vague, but I don't want to give too much away. It's actually the best Swedish TV serie I've seen in a very long time. Swedish TV series usually aren't very good.... There's just something about the direction/script/dialogue that can make a really great actor sound really stiff and unnatural. But this is the complete opposite. This one is very well written, directed and acted. Quite a lot of new faces and people that actually are from the north of Sweden, too. Plus it's shot on location in the north.
* Season 2 of His dark materials. I love the books and the first season was fantastic, so I was so excited about this. Season 2 is even better, it's hard to explain or give an example. I think it's the overall feel, the complete package. I don't want to say too much, because I don't want to spoil it for anyone. But there's so many great characters and they're really, really well casted too. I just love these series so much, they've adapted it really well and just thinking about it makes me smile. Plus, it just looks so good. The scenery, the daemons, the set...
*Us is a serie that I didn't know much about beforehand. I read a short summary about it. It's about a British married couple with a teenaged son (who's about to start university in the fall.) But before that they will spend the summer doing their dream tour of Europe, taking the train and visiting different countries and cities. I didn't have a lot of expectations beforehand. I mostly thought it would be fun to see the cities, seeing places I want to visit, and recognise places where I've been... But I was pleasently surprised. It's a beautiful, funny and sad story about this family. It felt genuine and not over the top or silly/fake. I really enjoyed it. Plus the scenery with pretty European towns is just lovely.
Currently reading:
Lisa och Lilly - En sann kärlekshistoria (Lisa and Lilly - a true love story) by Mian Lodalen. It's a beautifully written (although sad) book about two working class teenage girls in Stockholm and is set between 1910-1911. The girls did exist in real life and it has later been revealed that they were in love and in a relationship, but it was quietened down. I could go on and on about this book and how well written it is and how the characters and Stockholm in the early 1900's is described so well and vibrant that you really feel like you know them and that you're there. I'll stop now, but it's one of my absolute favourite reads. I can't stop thinking about it.
How’s it going:
Okayish, I think. I'm grateful that the store has survived the pandemic (so far) and that I still have a job to go to, back in february-april I wasn't sure of that at all.Happy that I'm healthy and have not gotten the virus. Worried and sad about some things and a bit tired. Missing the theatre, cinema and just sitting at a cafe or a restaurant. But it could be worse...
What are you looking forward to in 2021:
The vaccine and that the pandemic situation will start to turn around.
I'm looking forward to spring. It's a very special feeling when you start to notice that the days are getting longer and brighter and the air just smells so fresh. Spring is such a beautiful season. I don't know if it's because of the pandemic, but I'm more tired than usual of the long, dark and grey winter months. Also, a photographic exhibition that I really want to see is opening where I live during the spring. Hopefully, that won't be cancelled. It's a big space where they can control how many people they let in, so...
If it's possible (but I don't dare to hope too much) I would like to travel somewhere in Sweden to see a musical or two or three...
I love where I live, but I really want to visit another city and see something else even if it's just for a day or two...
I'm not optimistic about overseas travel. But, if it's possible, and this feels very far away at the moment, I would like to go to Finland in the fall to visit @starlene and see a Finnish production of a certain musical with her.
Any new year’s resolutions?
I’m very bad at deciding on new years resolutions and keeping them, so not really...

A big box o’Gwenvid AU ideas: A is for "Aww” and “Angst” and “AAAH”
This post is fucking rad as balls, and I started thinking of fun AU ideas . . . until I remembered that I already have approximately 2 billion WIPs already and don’t necessarily know if any of these have legs as actual fics. But it was fun to think about, so here we are! This is the first of . . . presumably 26 of these? Who knows, but this post we have:
Accidental Marriage AU
In which Campbell convinces incredibly wealthy investors known for their focus on “family values” that the Camp is a sweet family business run by a husband-and-wife team of counselors. The problem, of course, is that it isn’t sweet and its head counselors aren’t married. Campbell only has enough booze to fix one of those situations.
He’ll figure the rest out in the morning. He thinks better with a hangover, anyway.
(Yes I think this one would be awesome in Campbell’s POV. You cannot change my mind on this.)
Actor AU
Okay, real talk this would just be @whiskyarts‘s gameshow AU. Because I kinda love the idea of Jerk!David who just pretends to be a sweetheart for the cameras. Except I would cover it with my filthy Gwenvid hands and make it shippy in that antagonistic-hatemance-eventually-turns-into-something-resembling-feelings. There would be lots of angst and snark and sparkly clothes and I would love it and probably no one else would.
Alien AU
An Interplanetary Anthropologist, Gwen, manages to land a position on the Campbell after years of education and networking and plain old hard work. She is an employee of the most impressive warship in the galaxy -- sure, it’s gone to seed a little bit in the last few decades, but it still has its shine if you look at it sideways and squint a little -- and more importantly, it’s work experience! Paid work experience . . . as a janitor.
When the Campbell picks up a POW that the ship’s commander plans to (illegally) sell to the highest bidder, Gwen decides to treat it as an opportunity to build a real-life case study on one of the universe’s rarer life forms while it’s within arm’s reach. But the more she learns about the strange, sunny alien who was his platoon’s only survivor, the more uncomfortable she is with letting him disappear into her captain’s nefarious dealings and --
Oh fuck, this is The Shape of Water, isn’t it? I mean, I’ve never seen The Shape of Water but I’m pretty sure that’s what this is. Fuck. Goddamn it. Fuck.
Amnesia AU
David takes a rogue bus to the . . . well, everything -- something that’s more or less routine by now -- and hits his head hard enough to knock him out for almost a full day. When he wakes up, he’s the same cheerful David the camp is used to . . . except for three strange new things:
He doesn’t know where he is or what he’s doing -- doesn’t, in fact, remember anything after some vague memories of childhood.
He’s completely terrified of the forest, and especially of Spooky Island.
He has no idea who Cameron Campbell is, but he’s quite positive he hates him.
Android AU
Actually @ciphernetics and I put this idea together a little while ago! Basically Camp Campbell has a state-of-the-art off-brand helper android named David, who is a perfect camp counselor, childcare provider, and comes equipped with the finest Forest Survival software Cameron Campbell could find for free online in half an hour.
Gwen, the new (requisite human) hire, hasn’t ever really interacted with androids, and doesn’t especially want to now. David is used to the distrust, even outright hostility -- very few of the campers seem to like him, and he knows that his presence can be unsettling to humans, and look, it isn’t a D:BH AU okay? It just looks like one, and acts like one. And is one.
Angel/Demon AU
Um the perfect Angel/Demon AU literally already exists, but they only wrote one chapter back in 2017 and never updated, and that makes me absurdly sad. Regardless, David being very bad at being a demon and Gwen being very bad at being an angel is the ideal setup for this kind of AU, in my humble opinion.
However, David being an angel trying to reform his fallen ABFEL (angel buddy for eternal life!), who probably became a demon over something stupid and probably horny, also sounds extremely cute. They’re still friends, even though that is against literally all of the rules, and they secretly meet and hang out. David is convinced he can bring her around, and Gwen insists that she hates having him hanging off her nonexistent wings all the time.
Honestly, probably neither of those things are true. Gwen wasn’t cut out for heaven -- and probably, neither is David.
Apocalypse AU
Cameron Campbell was probably doing something dangerously stupid in the hopes it could make him money. That, or the Quartermaster was doing something dangerous for reasons only he could ever understand. Hell, maybe that’s what that weird Daniel guy’s cult was trying to do. Whoever was doing what, they ripped a hole in their dimension at the bottom of Lake Lilac, and all sorts of awful things start creeping through.
There were signs, of course -- that weird fish-monster certainly didn’t come in through customs -- but an inopportune explosion, or wayward firework, or the rumblings of Sleepy Peak Peak, or something ripped a hole in the fabric of reality big enough for Lovecraftian monsters to start crawling through. There’s no stopping it. Really, there’s no chance of even fighting it.
The second the rift opens, the story becomes one of just trying to stay out from under the Elder Gods’ feet.
Arranged Marriage AU
I think the easiest way to make this one work is by making either David or Gwen Campbell’s actual biological child -- maybe an heir, albeit to a highly illegal fortune and a mountain of credit card debt. But Campbell gets in trouble, the kind of trouble where he’s gambled everything and the only collateral he has left is a kid he got saddled with because their mother had better lawyers. A kid he’s been more than happy to put to work for the last 20-something years, who happens to have caught the eye of a ludicrously wealthy magnate -- not for her own sake (though Campbell would’ve been open to that too) -- but for her child, one she loves more than anything and keeps carefully shut away until the Right Person comes along.
His kid isn’t necessarily the right person, but for the first time in his life Cameron Campbell has a genuine treasure on his hands.
And, like all the fake treasures he’s passed off over the years, he just has to find a way to shine them up and make him a fortune.
Artist AU
Gwen is a starving artist living in a rat-infested hovel in the city, scraping by on a series of uninspired landscapes she paints on postcards and the goodwill of friends, family, and significant others. One day, a bright young man bounces up to her “studio” (it’s a cardboard box outside the park) and tells her excitedly that he’s been looking for her for weeks; he thinks her postcards are the most beautiful things he’s ever seen, and he would like to know if she’d be interested in moving down to a cabin by the lake. He runs a summer camp, he explains, and he knows they’d all be honored if she would teach them art lessons -- and of course paint in her spare time! The views are indescribable, and he’s sure she’ll have no shortage of inspiration.
She weighs the cost of what little artistic dignity she has remaining against room, board, and a steady paycheck for three months, and takes the job immediately.
Art Student AU
Put them in an art college -- maybe condense the ages so that the campers are like, younger students? -- and have Gwen as the Serious Art Student who cares a lot about theory and form and doing things right, and she’s constantly irritated by her classmate David, who sits at the same table as her and has declared them art buddies, and is convinced that the point of art is just to have fun and do your best! Maybe force them to do a group project together and really see them clash.
(Alternatively, there is the infinitely more shameless route of one being an art student and the other being a newd model for figure drawing. I am obviously much too classy to ever insinuate such a thing, but if someone was really looking for a way to write smuht . . . it’s sitting right there. On a table. nekkid. I HAVE TO CHANGE THE SPELLING TO MAKE THIS GO IN THE TAGS ARE YOU KIDDING ME)
Athlete AU
There are 4 major ways this one can go, I feel like:
Basically HSM: Gwen is a small part in her school’s musical (techie, maybe, or the orchestra) and lanky jock David -- which is the most hilarious phrase ever but he’s probably a runner or tennis player, something light on muscles and heavy on speed and springiness -- who’s well-mannered and cheerful but not the brightest, is put into the show as an extra-credit way to bump up his GPA so he can keep sporting his sports, and it turns out he’s both very good at and super enthusiastic about it.
A little like HSM, but as grown-ups: Gwen is the head of the drama/art department, which has just faced heavy cuts to support the superstar sports program, and she furiously storms over to the head coach’s office to let him know exactly what she thinks about him and his stupid meathead jocks. Of course, when the man who opens the door is a sweetheart beanpole with big eyes who already knows her name, she finds it hard to keep up her righteous indignation. And when it turns out that he was completely ignorant of the hit her department took from the budget cuts (or maybe not ignorant, just terminally oblivious) and is almost as upset as she is to hear about it, she’s forced to reconsider everything she’d assumed about Coach Greenwood; maybe he’s not the enemy after all, but someone with whom she can formulate a new battle plan.
Reporter/Famous Athlete AU: Either Gwen is a professional sportsball person and David is the shy, bumbling photographer eager to prove himself, or she’s the plucky, intrepid reporter and David is a good-natured professional athlete who she’s determined to interview.
Teammates AU: Professional or amateur sports team, and they’re just trying to scrape their way out of the bottom of the league without killing each other.
Author AU
There are a lot of potential interpretations of this AU, but my personal favorite is Gwen as a novelist with two distinctly differing careers: as G. E. Santos, the high-concept writer whose books are critical darlings in the maybe 3 publications that care about such things but whose sales can’t quite crack the triple digits; and as Annabelle Elizabeth, whose steamy erotica regularly tops the bestseller lists and is reviled by all of G. E.’s colleagues as “populist genre trash.”
The only person alive who knows about her Jekyll-and-Hyde author personas (besides her older sister Audree, who plays the part of charismatic and sensual Annabelle flawlessly) is her editor, David. He’s an odd choice, as her colleagues in both fields have pointed out -- reading her romance novels with his pen in one hand and the other covering his eyes, peeking through his fingers to write tremulous notes in the margins; stumbling through her ponderous literary works with a dictionary in his lap and his tongue between his teeth, poring through them like he’s learning a new language -- but he’s the only person Gwen will allow to touch her writing.

Avian (Bird People) AU
Centuries ago, it was said, avians were a rarity, an aberrant mutation to be locked up and intently studied but never trusted. Some people thought they were antichrists, a sign of the end times, when all normal humans would be destroyed and only the strange bird-people would remain.
In a way, maybe they were. Because when the earth’s crust ripped open and flooded the planet with magma and boiling water miles deep, avians were the only ones who could take to the sky.
Not all of them, certainly. In fact, most were locked up in detention centers and laboratories when the Swamp formed, and were unable to escape in time. Considering the people who could get to high enough elevations to escape the deluge, there were decades afterwards where the decimated human population outnumbered the avian one. Those were periods of tension, outright war and tentative alliances -- even romances, the kinds of great love stories that dragged both avian and human populations a few generations along when one or both of them should’ve died out.
That was over two hundred years ago, however. Now the Swamp is a murky expanse of scalding water and the boiled remains of civilization transformed into unrecognizable muck, with islands of “land” cobbled out of what remains. This is where the avians live, now. And humans don’t live anywhere, not anymore.
At least . . . that was what they thought.

9. Who are some characters you ship your muse with?
At the moment, I only have a handful of ships with Rosie. Given shes difficult as hell to deal with, shipping is not always easily (1. because of the nature of her doesnt make her easy to love and 2. Because I'm a babu and dont like to feel like I'm jumping the gun on people to love her askgifn)
She varies by fandom, but I have about 4 at the moment
- The main ones are with Guts (@cecidesent) is one of the first ships she had when I got here to tumblr. Berserk fandom has died out but it still is my first love before the fandom like tore itself apart. Although my Guts isn't around publicly, the verse where they shared their immortal lives together and Rosie spends her lifetime lamenting him in the modern day is the :V: The Fall: verse.
- My most common one you probably see on my blog is my Marvel verse, where Rosie is married to Eddie Brock(aka. Venom) (@osteum) and they have a family of 6 kids( 4 birthed, 2 adopted) all together. It has a lot of development behind the scenes but it's kind of my go-to if I'm not using my main verse because I love my symbiote kids and it honestly leaves a lot of room for exploring because of the up and down of their parents relationship, but also because of the anti-symbiot policies in the Marvel universe and how people see them. Rosie is still a leader of the angel squad and real deal always ready to throw down because of the bad reputation symbiots have the the people that shit talk about her Eddie and Venom. Its wild. This verse is found in the :V: Fate can be kind: tag.
- My other Marvel verse is with Wendell Vaughn (@quantahope) where Rosie and Wendell are still in a developing(long distance) relationship. Its honestly really sweet with the two of them sharing that burden as protectors, and it's full of jokes and their two strange families coming together. Mia and Malakaid love Wendell and Epoch, and Mia is an especially bad influence now that she has the power to convince her naive siblings to cause trouble with her. And lastly is a plot driven ship with Lauren(@sunflcwcrr) which started out as sweet but Rosie is a crazyass bitch and the ship has lowkey turned toxic mainly of Rosie's part( Aka. She keeps wanting to impulsively hurt and kill this girl every time they're even slightly intimate) , but 2 single moms coming together after heartache and using each other for comfort for what is no more is a true angst trip.
Those are my only ships at the moment, while Rosie may playfully flirt and have relations with people (aka @maxskulline and @skulldxddy) that may seem border shippy, true ship with her is fairly difficult. Its honestly at a point where like.. Rosie really doesn't want to always be the first one to be chasing the other, she isnt too crazy about one sided pinning because noe shes an older lady, so for now those may be the only ships I got going on now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
In her own canon, ships that occur are mainly with:
- Kasimir( now an ex-husband)
- Rocky( verse dependent, but deceased in main canon.),

Quiz question for you Abbey! Do you reckon Rose and Charley would've gotten on well together?
This question is super duper hard to answer, but I've actually thought about it A LOT.
Because, in order for them to meet, the circumstances under which they'd each meet and get to know know the Doctor would be wildly different from canon. So it's hard to know exactly what their individual relationships with him would be like. And that's the thing about Rose and Charley; they're both deeply possessive of the Doctor, though they show it differently. So, assuming the Doctor is between them... I think they'd be a very effective ass-kicking team together, I'm assuming they'd mutually agree that they'd do ANYTHING to protect their boy, and they might come to a grudging understanding of one another, but I don't think they'd get along, per se. Charley is just so... confrontational. Because of that, I don't think Rose could ever get to the point with her that she got to with Sarah Jane. And Rose is so blatantly in focused the Doctor, that I don't think Charley would ever feel she could let her guard down and forge a relationship with Rose outside of him.
BUT! I'm shippy garbage, and I don't give a fig about canon, so I'm going to assume none of this is true!! I'm going to assume that Rose, Charley, and the Doctor would become a happy throuple, traveling through time and space, and that Rose and Charley would forge a strong relationship in their own right, based on their mutual desire for justice, their compassion in the face of suffering, and their shared spirit of adventure!
Also, I'm tagging @lotsofthinkythoughts because she's been essential to the birth of this OT3 alternate universe that I happily live and thrive in, and I'm sure she can contribute to the Rose and Charley debate!

New question: Why do I dislike Misha and his fans?

I know Jared and Jensen have been there since the beginning and yes, there have been times where his character has been pretty useless but I don’t hate him and you’re being really mean to some Destiel shippers and like I know that it’s obviously never going to happen and Cockles is a big no no for me but I am confused about why you really don’t like him? I’m honestly just curious
Thank you for the question. Let me point out before hand, that my irritation towards Misha has nothing to do with a ship. I used to read destiel slash. I used to like Cockles AU. I don't ship wincest. I ship AUs. Its my favorite slash subgenre. So no, this is not a ship argument. Ship whatever you want, but mind your manners. There are many things that I don't like about Misha. However I am choosing to answer only from a SPN perspective because that is the primary way that we know him.
MISHA AND SLASH FICTION
You may not realize this but Supernatural has been on the air for so long that it, plus its fan base, has experienced and initiated a few changes and trends. In the space of fourteen years, filming became digitalized. Social media, which was a fledgling thing back then, is the norm now [I have a disdain towards social media]. To put it into perspective, the child actors that played Asher, the Antichrist kid [I forget his name] and Little Lillith from the early seasons are likely in their 20s now. Trends in entertainment changed. Hollywood seems poised to implode upon itself, geographically, with major entertainers moving house to outlets like Netflix. Netflix, not bound by geography, is likely to become the next Hollywood. Slash, too, has undergone change. And as far as SPN is concerned, that change has not been organic. It has been by design and at the hands on Misha Collins.
When Castiel came on board, there were already two prevalent pairings in Supernatural: Wincest and Bobby/John. There were other pairings. But these were the most prevalent. So Supernatural had slash fans already. These fans were already aware of what slash fiction was, and they were a self-monitoring group. They realized that the actors were aware of slash and didn't want it to be the focal point of their con appearances, because they didn't want the fans to think they were hinting at anything. The fans understood and ever since, they have respected the actor's wishes. When some fans liked Dean's interaction with Cas, they started shipping destiel.
Destiel's old fans were just like all the other shippers. They were treating destiel the way it should be treated. Like a fantasy. They did artwork and literature about it and kept it to themselves, as they should. Misha never knew what slash fiction was, until he looked on Tumblr and found Destiel. In his words, he used destiel to ''keep this gig for longer''. He kept talking about destiel even though he was instructed not to, and pulling the LGBT into it, to make it look like destiel was about gay rights and queer art, when it isn't. There are various kinds of destiel written by different people, from different perspectives, for different reasons. That is true for all pairings everywhere. By making destiel about the LGBT and waving the ''no shipping question'' rule in convention panels, he did two things.
He turned destiel into a vehicle for LGBT activism. Instead of being a pastime, now destiel is used to fight for LGBT representation, even though, many of the LGBT people within my own circle despise him for it. Most of the people fighting for LGBT representation are actually quite homophobic and insulting in their thinking and logic. And they are not even LGBT. They are just a bunch of straight girls for whom, their fantasy has become a drug, and they wont stop until destiel becomes canon.
He turned Jensen into the bad guy. Misha spoke openly about slash. Jensen chose not to. He didn't want any part of it, and this is true about all the pairings he is a part of, not just destiel. Because of his choice, Misha fans make negative comparisons between him and Misha, even saying that Jensen is a homophobe/biphobe because he doesn't want to talk about destiel or make it canon. They ranted about it on social media and mass media picked up on it. The University Of Sydney has an academic paper, under Celebrity Studies, dedicated to Jensen's supposed homophobia. The destiel shippers are literally Jensen's reputation.
Misha should have left slash alone. Any fan of his will know that he overindulges the slash fans. And the one thing that I noticed about slash fans, is that you don't give them excessive attention, or they will go completely crazy. It doesn't matter what they slash.
Harry Styles and Liam Tomlinson learned that the hard way, because the Larry fans destroyed their friendships when they over-emphasized the fan servicing. They did the fan servicing because Modest Management told them to, they ended up hating their fans for what the fans became. They have since severed ties with Modest. Even on a day when one of them was mourning the loss of a parent, the fans who pushing the other guy so they could have a ship moment. These two boys were very young when they entered the band. Harry was 15 years old. They had youthful ignorance to blame for making the decision to blindly follow the manager's instruction. Misha cannot make any of those excuses.
Misha got into the show at age 35. He was already a grown man. He was not a pivotal part of the show and therefore the only notes he was getting, was for his acting. He wasn't being coached by anyone as to how he should engage his fans. He was too small a fry for that. In fact, no one was sure how long he would last on the show. So these notes were only acting, including one telling him not to adlib his lines. Whatever transpired between him and the destiel fans, happened because he orchestrated it.
MISHA AND SUPERNATURAL
When Cas came on board, he was fun new character. By the end of season 5, he had run his course on the show. The show didn't need his character because [and as a writer I understand this] the presence of Castiel hampered the progress of the story. Sera Gamble dealt with that frustration during her tenure as showrunner. Cas was an angel. If he was an ally to the boys, the boys should have a more powerful nemesis. After all, they have an angel buddy to help them. Unfortunately, they couldn't keep coming up with more and more powerful bad guys and negative elements, especially on a show where the biggest bad guy, the devil itself, and the worst case scenario [the apocalypse] has already been dealt with.
During 6 and 7, they had Soulless Sam, Sam's wall, the leviathans, Metatron, the demons, Crowley, Dick Roman and even the Alphas, if I am not mistaken. So many bad guys and bad situations, because the good guys had a powerful angel. They could make him lose his power, so he wont be such a powerful ally. And they did exactly that. But Misha has very few skills to show off. Imagine if Osric was Cas. Even without power, he would still be able to taekwondo the stuffing out of bad guys. He wouldn't be useless. Cas, without his grace, didn't help the story along. He didn't bring something extra to the story. He was pointless. So they made him a bad guy and for the first time in a long time, Cas was pivotal to the story.
Eventually, she got fed up of shoehorning him into the script and just did away with the character. But, rumor has it that Singer brought him back. And he was welcome by the worst Q score measurement ever. That would tell you that he was not appreciated as an actor by everyone, just his shipping and cult fans. Since then, Cas has done nothing important in the script until recently where he made a deal for Jack. Other than that, he has been an add on, and that is Misha's fault. Every time Jensen and Misha did a scene, Misha would overemphasize the destiel aspect, either via social media or during his panels. And eventually Jensen got fed up and cut the scenes short. Basically, Misha shot himself in the foot. The DeanCas fan service made for annoying television for people who didn't want to deal with shippy nonsense while they were watching their favorite show.
If they didn't add anything shipping related, the hellers screamed. If they did, the hellers screamed canon and queer baiting. Misha's interference did that. All he had to do was stop talking, and he couldn't do that, because his fan base will lose interest in him. In order to keep that one group of militants, Misha isolated all other fans and potential fans.
MISHA AND THE DESTIEL FANS
Misha's fan have sent Jensen various death threats, the receipts of which are on my blog. A few days back, a heller was setting Jensen's picture on fire because Misha tweeted a lie that there will be a turning point for Dean and Cas in the upcoming episode. So even though Misha was the guilty party, this psycho is punishing Jensen. These fans have also discussed kidnapping Jared's children. When they bully Jensen and Jared, they tag Misha in many of the tweets. Misha randomly does Q and A sessions based on his tweets, but he has never seen a single threat and bullying remark??.....in ten years??.....really?? Nah, I am not buying that. Frankly, I think the man just doesn't care. Acknowledging them will mean he will have to stop them which means he will eventually have to stop peddling destiel which means he will not have an audience which means SPN will kick him right out. The funny thing is, I think he is wrong. He might actually have more fans if he didn't alienate them with his special brand of shippy vulgarity. I could fill a page with all the receipts of the death threats. And Jensen doesn't deserve that.
I also call out destiel shippers on Tumblr so that everyone else can block the problematic ones. Have you noticed how many names there are for the destiel pairing? DeanCas, CasDean, DeanxCastiel and recently I discovered Dastiel. Have you ever wondered why? It is because they don't want you to block them. If you filter destiel, they will use another name. Why is that? That is not a ship. That's a cult. They want to indoctrinate. They tag destiel in other fandom names. They are trying to create more fans for a ship. That is why I call out specific people. Especially the ones that tag AKF in their destiel garbage. I have no issues with the good shippers. I have done posts about them. The bad ones might do something criminal one day, which is why they bother me.
This answer, only just scratches the surface. I am not telling you everything. I am not telling you about Jared, Robert Berens, Kim, Briana, Travis, Sera Gamble, Ben Edlund, Ty Olsson etc. I am just telling you the brief basics. I hope this answers your question. WHAT IS YOUR OTP FOR YOUR CHARACTER?:
My OTP for Faith is definitely Sam Winchester, and I’m exclusive to @samattheend. They work so well together, are each other’s canon ‘type’ and their universes don’t need much massaging to make them fit. Plus, Jan’s the Sam to end all Sam’s on the sheer fact that he actually understands the character. He is lovely and I <3 him.
WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO WRITE WHEN IT COMES TO SHIPPING?
Nothing that I’d have to wildly stray from canon for. I’m not a ship ho, never have been, and I’m ridiculously picky about shippy things. It can’t just be ‘hot’, it’s got to be ‘right’, and chemistry’s not enough for that. I don’t really care about smut, I’m more concerned with whether or not the ship in question could really happen if given a shot on screen.

It has to be part of a larger story. One of the reasons I don’t do 1x1s very often is that people expect a ship, and it has to be true love or their feelings are hurt. I just happen to have one of those ‘one night stand, lost your number’ type of muses where true love is usually not in the cards. As the person I stole this from said, if I feel like you’re not particularly enthusiastic about our ship I’m likely to lose enthusiasm, too.

Sebastian and Ciel, shipping not intended. Preferrably canonverse. Sebastian thinking of how everyone else sees him as deeply caring for Ciel's wellbeing, which he does with only one intent in mind - seasoning Ciel's soul to add to the 'delicacy' level he desires. Ciel knows this, so even despite living together for three years, he knows Sebastian's 'worrying' and 'affection' are all feints. However, maybe after a particularly bad nightmare, or after Sebastian doing something kind out of apparently no reason, Ciel seems to genuinely be grateful. What are Sebastian's thoughts on this? Maybe something dark and manipulating, kind of in the league of his words in the Green Witch arc when he's burning the laboratory? Or the other way around? Your choice. What I meant with no shipping is because I would prefer if this 'affection' I mentioned wouldn't be taken by you as romantic.

[Positivity Day] Shippy Fic Recs
In honor of Voltron Positivity Day, I’m sharing some of my all-time favorite Voltron fics with you! Here are the shippy ones. I have a heavy Shatt and Klance bias, so this list has a lot of those. If those aren’t your jam, no worries! I also have a list of Gen Fic Recs right here.

Why You Should Read:
This is my absolute favorite Modern AU in the fandom for SO many reasons. This writer is an absolute master of domestic fluff. I know “you will laugh, you will cry” is kind of a cliché, but it’s 900% true: you will probably very literally laugh and cry your way through this series. It’s cute and hilarious and highly relatable. There are some bittersweet moments (especially the Broganes backstory), but even the angsty fics end on a hopeful note. And it’s all written in an easy-to-read snapshot style full of delightful, clever dialogue.

Boy was he fucking wrong.
Why You Should Read:
BPD KEITH! BPD KEITH!!! Very well-written and highly relatable BPD Keith. My ultimate weakness. Seriously, this is such a good fic and a good painful-but-hopeful depiction of mental illness.

Shiro and Matt thought they were the luckiest people alive when they found out they were going to Kerberos together. But Shiro hasn't seen Matt's untidy scrawl on his arm in almost a year, and he has no idea if his soulmate is even still alive.

Why You Should Read:
You should consider reading this one even if soulmate AUs aren’t your usual jam. Trust me. It gives everybody a spotlight, and platonic relationships are given just as much attention and importance as romantic ones. Plus, the worldbuilding is just fantastic! The author clearly put a lot of thought into how soulbonds would alter the flow of events in this canon-adjacent universe.

Character/Relationship Focus: Matt/Shiro, Shiro & Keith, Matt & Keith
Summary:
When Shiro gets accepted to his first job as a teacher, Matt and Keith decide to make him a surprise dinner.
It doesn't go as planned.
Why You Should Read:
If you like domestic fluff and kitchen disasters as much as I do, you need to read this. Trust me. It’s so fluffy your teeth will rot, and there are so many hilarious lines. A pure and cheerful read.
All That’s Left to do is Burn by Qpengsin89 (T, 4.5k)
Character/Relationship Focus: Keith-centric (implied Keith/Lance)
Summary:
Keith has terrible impulse control. He knows it, and so does everyone else.
Why You Should Read:
This is such a cathartic read. It deals with some really heavy mental illness feels, but it still ends on a hopeful and comforting note. Also, I appreciate that Keith’s relationship with Lance doesn’t overshadow his closeness with Shiro.

I was tagged by @fryferbfringefan44. Now, I have to post 10 characters from 10 fandoms. I’m gonna take some liberties here and bend the rules by not necessarily picking top faves, but faves nonetheless and characters I want to talk about that I don’t really get to in other memes. Be ready, I’m gonna use this to let off some steam. :V
1. Isabella Garcia-Shapiro (Phineas and Ferb): I can’t help but feel controversial here because while I’d hardly call her unpopular, I always get the feeling that most people either don’t care about her much or that the main reason they like her is because they ship her with Phineas (or Ferb, or some other character even). Meanwhile I’m sitting here cringing at my old Phinabella days, and am in that odd sliver that seems to really like her but don’t really focus too much on the Phineas aspect, even if I still have some dreaded Phinabella inside me I’m trying to suppress? I mean, I didn’t even realise she had a crush on Phineas until a year after I discovered the show (yep, I didn’t see crush episodes like how Linda never sees Phineas and Ferb’s inventions).
So anyway, I just think she’s really damn cool. She’s hypercompetent like the rest of her peers, she cares about things that matter (in particular the Fireside Girls) as well as her friends, she’s not afraid to speak her mind (well, besides one thing), plus she’s funny, cute and while probably being the most “normal” out of Phineas and Ferb’s group of friends can still have her moments of quirkiness (just watch Return Policy or Face Your Fear, lol). I also find some of her flaws quite interesting, like a lot of her friends we actually see she cares enough about the Fireside Girls to the point where it has given her anxiety over potential failure, and sometimes she has a need for attention (I really like the episode where she’s competing with Candace over attention for Melissa the young Fireside Girl because of this).
Granted her central character arc still revolves around Phineas and I understand why some don’t really care for that, but admittedly I like that kind of stuff too (in b4 “problematic fave” comments from people). On one hand I feel like we focused only on her crush at specific times and not nearly as much as some people make it out to be, but on the other hand her crush on Phineas is just super adorable? I think it might actually be because I kind of relate to her (I often remind myself of her at times admittedly, even if there’s other characters I’m more like XD), like there’s loads of characters that exist as love interests but Isabella actually managed to engage me probably because we actually followed her and her feelings instead of her just being some random girl for Phineas to try and impress (I guess I’m saying she was at least active in her own romance storyline, before then I had only really seen boys chasing after girls)?
IDK if I’m making sense, but I guess I’m saying even if I think she’s able to stand on her own with her other attributes and is admirable in that regard I can’t help but really relate to the crush stuff too, which is maybe why I like her more than some people (and again, still not in the super shippy wants-her-to-be-with-Phineas-at-all-costs way). But yeah, as you can see I think Isabella is awesome and she’ll always have a special spot as a fave.
2. Jasper (Steven Universe): I choose Jasper because I feel like some people are being somewhat unfair on her? Like, I feel like some people are underestimating how complex she is and that she’s not going to be the “true villain.” Steven Universe never works that way, not even with characters like the Diamonds, you can even ask the writers and they’ll say they don’t do actual villains. Plus, lots of people have gone “true villain” on characters like Peridot when she first appeared, and now look at where she is!
Anyway, Jasper’s story is honestly really gripping and also quite tragic. Sure, she works as a great antagonist against the Crystal Gems, but when we piece together where she came from we really get to see why she is the way she is, and she’s actually quite sympathetic. I mean, in her last appearance in Earthlings, I was on the verge of tears. She’s not just some thug, she has things she cares about and has experienced real hurt, and has become quite messed up as a result.
Oh, and I can’t wait for her to come back. She’s gotta be back eventually.
3. CT-5555, aka “Fives” (Star Wars): I always enjoyed the clone troopers, but one of my favourites was always Fives. I was always invested in the Domino Squad storyline, and how they rose through the ranks and eventually became ARC Troopers. However, when things got really interesting for me was the Umbara story arc.
Here, we not only saw Fives’ capabilities as a soldier, but with Pong Krell taking control of the 501st Legion he actually started to show more colours to his personality. In particular, we got to see that he cared more about what he thought was right than simply following orders without question.
Unfortunately, even if that saved him and his fellow clones on Umbara, it would doom him when he learned about Order 66. Fives may have done the right thing, but when the entire Republic is against you for trying to reveal what they perceive as some conspiracy theory, you’re not going to go out well (especially if you have the Sith involved). I just really liked seeing a clone grow rebellious and then renegade but still cared about his duty because it’s either all loyalty or fuck the army, it was a nice balance. It was just committing the crime of asking questions that doomed him (and gosh his death is so sad).
At least Rex seemed to listen to his warning though. :’)
4. Bradley Nicholson (Milo Murphy’s Law): IDK if I’ve talked about Bradley much, but he’s just such a blast to watch. Of course there’s the added bonus of Vincent Martella voicing a character radically different from Phineas, but even then he’s just really funny, the voice acting just enhances that. He’s also quite interesting, given that he’s jealous of Milo and the attention he gets, plus he seems kind of lonely. I really want to see him interact with Milo in the future and see whether he changes his opinion on him, or if he somehow grows even more envious while he grows on the others.
5. Makuta Teridax (Bionicle): Yeah, Teridax here is a pretty standard villain with standard villain traits. Selfish, arrogant, wants power, views his subordinates as nothing but tools, associated with darkness, etc. The reason he has left a mark on me is because he’s not only good at what he does, he’s epic at it.
They could’ve just had him be some typical dark lord type, but he ended up developing into a character that is able to plan things out to a ridiculous extent. As a result, he would always find ways to be steps ahead of the heroes, and he would even go as far as letting himself be severely defeated and letting them win if it meant achieving his ultimate endgame. Everyone was being played like a puppet, he was powerful but his manipulation and planning is what made him so competent. Oh yeah, and he ended up winning. It literally took a moon to the head to finally take him down, but even then he had already unleashed so much terror on the world that was now his.
6. Keith (Voltron: Legendary Defender): I’m pretty new to VLD so I might not really be as in-depth here now, but Keith is definitely one of my favourite characters in the show. For starters, he’s just really badass. Seriously, he might be reckless at times, but at least he’s not to the point of being foolish, he’s really good at what he does. Also the whole storyline with him being Galra was really interesting, The Blade of Marmora is probably one of my favourite episodes of the show so far. I was already invested in his need for answers, but there he was willing to go to dangerous lengths to get what he wanted. At least the hell he went through was worth it.
7. Alister Azimuth (Ratchet and Clank): Most of the final bosses in Ratchet and Clank games are villains, but here it was literally the mentor character for Ratchet. Granted I’ve never been too savvy with video games, but this twist here when I first saw A Crack in Time blew me away. He’s one of the last of his entire species and has lost everyone who was ever close to him, but when he sees the chance to go back in time, he can’t help but take it. Problem is that he will rip apart time if he actually tries that. It’s actually really dramatic to fight him at the end because throughout the entire game Azimuth had been helping out Ratchet despite stuff from his past slipping into the open (oh yeah, he also feels personally responsible for unwitting helping the one to get rid of the Lombaxes), but when Ratchet and Clank tell him using The Great Clock to alter time would be dangerous, he decides to stop playing nice. He’s rough throughout the entire game, but now he’s not taking anything from anyone. He needed to go back and undo the mistakes of the past, but he had to end up fighting someone who is the son of his once best friend to do it. Granted he’s brought to his senses by the end, but he does end up dying to reverse the time travel process.
8. Connor Temple (Primeval): I don’t remember much of Primeval, but I always liked Connor. Sure, a lot of the time he was there to be goofy and provide comic relief, but he was also really intelligent and knew his stuff. It’s also cool seeing him grow more important with each series, even if in the end his technological skills almost fuck up the Earth since he was being played by the antagonists. Just a fun and cool character.
9. Max Jerry Horowitz (Mary and Max): Mary and Max isn’t a film for the faint of heart (...like me), but Max has always meant a lot to me. He was the first time I had ever seen an Autistic character that felt real, and not just some stereotype or gag. We get to know him and all of the stuff he’s been through, and you can’t help but feel for the guy. He also wasn’t afraid to be himself despite how much hell the world put him through, which is really great to see. Also yay for a character that actually supports neurodiversity in some shape or form!
10. Donna Noble (Doctor Who): Donna was the first companion I got to know on Doctor Who, and she’s still my favourite. I enjoyed seeing someone with a relationship with the Doctor that was platonic but still strong and obviously meant as much as any other kind of relationship, and she was a lot of fun. I understand some found her annoying at first, but if she didn’t start there she wouldn’t have had such great character growth, learning to grow more confident in herself and overcome her insecurities. She was really funny as well, not to mention unafraid to speak up about things. The way she left the show was absolutely heartbreaking though...

Dear Yuletide Author
Hello! This is my first Yuletide and I’m excited to participate after reading/lurking Yuletide for a few years. I’m hoping you love these worlds/characters as much as I do!
Please avoid: PWPs (explicit sex is fine if it’s part of a larger plot but I’d prefer a story that’s less explicit and not super sex-focused), unhappy endings, and BDSM/hardcore kink. If a character is injured, hospitalized or suffers a medical emergency in the fic, please warn/tag for it even if it’s a minor character and even if spoils the plot.
Some things I like: Stuff that gets inside the characters/world and explores why it’s so special. I love both romance and friendship. For fandoms with casts of supporting characters, I like stories that explore characters’ relationships to the supporting characters as well as each other. I’m all about “opposites attract.” Some of these fandoms have really funny source material, so I hope you can work some humor in.

Something shippy, fun and frothy - true to the spirit of the books. Maybe it’s getting-together fic where Bertie and Jeeves finally realize how they truly feel about each other? Maybe it’s established relationship fic and they’re navigating one of Bertie’s many disasters together? Anything goes, as long as they’re having fun and feelings together. I didn’t pick any of the supporting characters because I love them all so much and I didn’t want to limit you - any of the characters in the tagset, as well as any supporting characters in the Jeeves universe, are fair game. I’ve got a special soft spot for Aunt Dahlia, Honoria Glossop and her family, and Gussie Fink-Nottle, who wasn’t in the tagset, but go wild! Invent new horrible ladies for Bertie to be engaged to and then break off engagements with! (Oh also, no modern AUs - please keep them in the time period the books are set in.)

I love the Ice Bear - Chloe friendship with all my heart and I wish we saw more of it on screen. (The episode where they see the albino alligator together is one of my favorites.) How much Korean can Ice Bear speak, anyway? What kinds of adventures would they get up to together? What other hidden talents do the two of them have? I’d like a story that’s focused on them spending time with each other (with or without the other bears). No adventure is too big or too wacky! Please keep this gen and friendship fic only - I don’t ship anyone on this show even a little bit.
Sports Night
Casey McCall, Dan Rydell, Dana Whitaker
The only thing I love more than Dan and Casey’s relationship on this show is the relationship they both have with Dana. I’d love a fic where Dan and Casey deal with the romantic feelings they have for each other (whether it’s getting together, mutual pining, or established relationship) while also navigating how those feelings affect their relationship with Dana (and the show). Maybe they’re trying to squash their feelings because they’re worried it’ll make Dana’s job harder? Maybe Dana can see these two idiots pining for each other and is trying to get them to listen to her and ask each other out? No threesomes, though - any romance should be between Dan and Casey only, and their relationship with Dana should be strictly friendship. POV of any of the three characters is fine by me. Feel free to stick supporting characters in here too.

I’d be happy with one of two routes here. You could go the casefic route - keep their relationship strictly friends and come up with a new mystery for them to solve. (Maybe there’s another stunning European destination that needs some gardening work?) Or you could make it shippy, and have romance interfere a little with their gardening/mystery solving. Maybe Laura can’t concentrate on sleuthing because she just realized Rosemary looks really good in her new sweater. Or maybe they’re on a romantic vacation together and Rosemary goes off on a plant botany wild-goose-chase while Laura just wants to sleep in. Truly, either shippy or gen would make me happy - this show and these women are my happy place, and as long as it’s focused on their cozy gardening-slash-mystery solving and their warm hearts, you can do whatever you want. In the spirit of the show, though, please keep the mystery cozy - don’t put in a lot of blood and gore, don’t lovingly describe the murder weapon, you get the drill. Any setting is fine with me, but please keep them as gardeners - don’t put them in other professions.
