Setting January Up for a Good Year
Welcome to 2024! Now that it’s been two weeks into the new year, how are we doing with the New Year resolutions?
As we navigate the early days of the year, it's the perfect time to lay the foundation for your dream life in the 12 months ahead, starting with some actionable steps that will set you on the path to achieving your goals and dreams.
Identify Your Vision
Visualize your Dream Life: Take a moment to put yourself in a world where everything worked out the way you wanted it to? Who are you? Who do you associate with? Where do you live? What do you do for work? For fun?
Imagine your Daily Routine: Consider the habits and routines of someone who has achieved what you aspire to. What does their day look like? What do they do when they wake up? When do they go to bed? What would they wouldn't be caught dead doing?
Create Your Resolution
Set Attainable Goals to Meet Vision: Craft resolutions that are realistic and directly contribute to your vision. Instead of broad resolutions, break them down into smaller, achievable goals. For example, if your vision involves landing a better job, set specific goals like updating your resume, networking, or acquiring new skills.
Monthly Checklist: Develop a checklist for each month to stay on track. Bonus points if you break your attainable goals into quarterly targets. Highlight key milestones and tasks. Revisit and adjust your checklist based on your progress and evolving priorities.
Habits & Discipline
Detailed Habits & Discipline Post: Motivation is great, but it's only half the battle. You need to build routines and habits that keep you disciplined when motivation isn't enough to get to your dream life. Let me know if you lovelies want more information about this.
Align Your Habits with Goals: Your daily habits should align with your goals. If your goal is to learn a new skill, then set a time every day, ideally the same time, to work on that skill. Discipline plays a vital role in consistency. Cultivate discipline by setting realistic expectations and staying committed.
I'm committed to making the most of this year. As we finish up with January, let's be intentional about the choices we make. Remember, the habits you build today shape the success you'll achieve tomorrow. Here's to a purposeful and thriving 2024!

You don’t have to change yourself to enjoy the new year. 👏🏼
You don’t have to start a new diet or cut out a new food group. 🥦
You don’t have to buy a gym membership if the gym isn’t your thing. 🏋🏻‍♀️
You don’t have to set goals to measure your worth by a smaller clothing size or a different number on the scale. In fact you don’t have to weigh yourself at all. 🔢

Image description: a three panel comic with polaroid frames. The panel shows a red brick building in front of a nearly white sky. the text on the panel reads: “This year is on the verge of being the best one I ever had. Which means nothing: last year sucked.” Text underneath reads: “J. krupitza / inspired by asofterworld.com” end Image description

Reposted from @nationalparkservice “Tomorrow I’ll get up and workout at 6:00 am!” Me at 9:00 am. There's always tomorrow. Where does the fox sleep? A fox can sleep more than 8 hours a day. They sleep near brush, or in low areas, near their den, so to not be seen by predators. Most foxes keep to themselves and avoid other animals as much as possible. Sounds like a good way to ease into the new year. Image: Snoozing fox at Lake Clark National Park & Preserve, Alaska. NPS/J. Today at the winery I asked a girl what her new year's resolution was. She said, "Fuck you!"
So, I'm pretty excited for 2024

Healing is a Nonlinear Process
When we focus on healing instead of focusing on “curing,” we have a greater opportunity to learn and grow on our wellness journey. If we choose, healing can be a beautiful journey towards wholeness not just a destination. Healing is more than simply treating symptoms. In looking at the root cause, we begin a deeper process of inner work. Healing involves the mind, body and spirit. Healing allows us to find greater meaning in all parts of our lives including our relationships and our life purpose. How can we learn to love ourselves, be aware, nonjudgmental, forgiving and curious? How can we be open to the message or lesson of what is missing or in excess in our lives?

I usually don't do the whole New Years Resolution thing, but this years it's different. Dr. Jordan Peterson has a "top 100" list of recommended literature, and I am going to go through them one by one, to see how many I can complete. I am including film adaptations and listening on Audible. So many of these I remember reading decades ago as required reading for high school or my college literature classes, but most will be first time reads for me. The last 2 days I read A Farewell to Arms (Ernest Hemingway). I still want to see both versions of the movie, one made in the 1932 with Helen Hayes and Gary Cooper, and another made in 1957 with Jennifer Jones and Rock Hudson, the latter being more fluff of the two, according to critics. The ending of the book slayed me. But it is great fun to read sad books and day drink. Here is a sampling. The rest can be found on his website.

As we start 2024, we are being hit with an onslaught of ‘New Year, New You’ themed messaging that suggests our best self is just around the bend. Whether it is advertisements selling us weight loss programs, coaches touting productivity hacks, or influencers hawking “health” tonics, the message is the same—our current self isn’t enough. As consumers have become savvy to the fact that diets don’t work, diet companies have tried to obscure their messaging, claiming to be “anti-diet” or “mindful eating” despite promoting plans that involve calorie counting, food restriction, and a focus on weight loss. Don’t be fooled, if it looks like a diet, sounds like a diet, and tastes like a diet, most likely it is a diet (hint: promises of weight loss are usually a clear giveaway something is a diet). And we all deserve so much more than a lifetime trying to shrink our bodies over and over again. Here’s to 2024 being a year we leave dieting behind and embrace our fullest most authentic selves 🎊🥳🎉🪩
