Welcome to the Zine O’Biology

A multi-fandom Star Trek Zine.

Do you have strong opinions on Vulcan fra’als, Cardassian tails, or how the heck Trill symbionts reproduce? We want to hear from you!

The Zine O’Biology is a fictional comparative xenobiology academic journal set in the Star Trek universe. If you’ve always wanted to wax eloquent for up to 3000 words about your theories on alien biology, welcome to your new home!

We want all your theories about all your favorite aliens! This is a friendly but competitive academic journal where the content of every paper is a little bit suspicious (is this paper based on rumor or fact? What is the methodology?) and some competing authors leave snarky comments on one another’s work. So just like a real academic journal, except ours features the Great Green Anthurium.

We welcome xenobiology articles on all Star Trek aliens from all series!

The final format will be a PDF that you can scroll at your leisure or print at home in order to have a physical copy of the Zine. (This way there is no money involved.)

ALIEN BIOLOGY ARTICLES

How do Andorian genders work? Are Cardassians actually lizards? Why do Klingons have so many redundant organs? What’s the biological purpose of Bajoran nose ridges? What’s the best cement mix for emergency surgery on a Horta?

You’ve been pondering alien biology for years. This is your chance to infodump all your favorite theories to an eager audience of your fellow nerds!

Articles will be separated into two categories: reproductive biology or general biology. Yes, we also want all your theories on what every species is packing downstairs…and how they use it.

Journal articles should be fun and engaging, but also written in your interpretation of a pseudo-academic style, since this is a highly respected Federation xenobiology journal. If you want to keep things more lighthearted and less academic, check out the section on Letters to the Editor.

ALIEN BIOLOGY ARTWORK

If you have independent illustrations about alien biology we would love to see them! If you would like to provide illustrations for one of our journal articles, tell us what species you want to illustrate and we’ll do our best to match you up!

Art should be in a square, scaleable format, printable at high resolution at 4x4 inches.

JOURNAL ADVERTISEMENTS

Even in a post-need future, academic journals will need a little extra funding. Submit your ads for Ferengi Oomox Creme, Self Sealing Stem Bolts, Gently Used Federation Technology, and, of course, “reproductive aids.” The weirder the better! Have fun with it!

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Do you have a great idea, but it’s not enough to fill out a 3000 word article? Submit it as a “reaction” to a previous journal article. Feel free to lay into a mythical researcher who does NOT understand why their biological theory is wrong and yours is right!

Max length 800 words. Enjoy making these plenty frothy!

WE NEED SUB-EDITORS!

The creators of this Zine are all notorious Vulcan Fuckers. Since we want the Zine O’Biology to be open to all alien species, it is only logical that we seek your expertise.

We’re seeking fans from all over the Star Trek universe to spread the word that yes, it’s time for us to all come together in the spirit of explaining how our favorite aliens come together.

Sub-Editors will be in charge of helping us solicit articles and art for their specific race of aliens and editing those articles in order to fit into the Zine. If we don’t have a sub editor for a species, we’ll do our best, but the chapter on that species won’t be as good as it would be if folks with real fanon knowledge were involved.

Fill out the Art or Writing Google Form letting us know your interests or reach out to the Editor in Chief at [email protected]

DEADLINES:

August 1, 2024: Last date for everyone seeking an art or writing partner to submit their request. We don’t guarantee you’ll be partnered up. It depends on how many people are interested and what aliens they want to draw/write.

August 18, 2024: Art/Writing partners notified. NOTE: it’s both fine and encouraged if you want to submit as a team from the start! This is for people who do not have a partner and would like us to find them one.

August 30, 2024: Final call for all journal authors, artists, and advertisers to let us know what species they’re working with, how many submissions they plan to send, and whether their submission will be general or reproductive biology.

October 20, 2024: All art, advertising, and journal submissions are due

We hope to have the Zine O’Biology ready for your enjoyment by New Year’s Eve 2024. We all have full time jobs and lives, so that date may change depending on the volume of submissions.

FAQ

What if my biological theories are totally different from another author’s?

Yes. Perfect. We love it.

We want to see everyone’s theories! Canon gave us scraps, but together we will make a meal! Expect to see many mutually contradictory articles. That’s part of the fun!

What about Smut?

Yes, we are accepting E rated submissions! The journal will be separated into two sections:

General Biology

Reproductive Biology

General Biology is everything but the genitals

Reproductive Biology should include actual descriptions of the mechanics and biology. Think of it as creating reference material for smut writers and artists.

Hello! I'm bored and realized I never wrote a get to know me so here we go!

My name is Lana, which is not my real name, lmao. I'm a teen writer, I spend a lot of my time coming up with ideas and writing and it brings me joy!

I'm a shifter, writer, and I find comfort in both and music especially!

I started my account a few days after my birthday if I remember correctly, and it was because I wanted to share my writing and have people see it to tell me if it was good or not, and here we are!

I got into writing because of my friend, who I still talk to on the daily, and who I love! Writing helped me deal with some shit in my life and brings me comfort, and it helped me with grief and mental health shit.

I like being an anonymous writer online because it makes me able to be myself without others knowing how I look, how my personality is without being judged.

I love writing because it helped me find friends like @blair-the-juggalho and @im-in-a-love-cult and even if they're online friends people like them help me and I love writing for that!

I'm in multiple fandoms, and love all characters as they all have a place in my heart.

I also loved reading and writing stories since I was a kid, and incorporate small struggles and things from my actual life in my writing, like family shit.

I have a pretty big family but not that much of a relationship with a lot of them.

I have seven siblings, five older and two little siblings, and I love them all, I took care of the littlest ones with my sister, who I'm closest with, for a while.

Continuing on that, I don't have a good relationship with my mom, and my dad died, and I ran away from home a while back, so people I meet on the internet like friends and followers make me happy, like it's a little found family thing, which I am a sucker for!

I'm bisexual, I may be genderfluid, it's something I'm figuring out as sometimes I feel like a guy, act like one, dress like one and sometimes I feel like a girl, act like one and dress like one, sexuality and self-expression is a hard thing sometimes and writing helps me figure it out in a way, lmao!

Multi-Fandom Event: Holiday Cheer 2022

The Multi-Fandom Postcard Exchange is pleased to present its annual Holiday Cheer event where everyone 16 and older who is interested can receive physical holiday cards and/or postcards in their mailbox–all without having to share their mailing address with everyone! And this year, you don’t have to be a member to participate! ❤

The Basics

You do not need to send cards in order to receive them! We believe everyone deserves to be included, regardless of funds/ability/etc.

You also do not need to receive cards in order to send them.

You do not need to be a member of the Multi-Fandom Postcard Exchange.

Your address is PRIVATE–it is only shared with the MFPE’s two mods (not our volunteers).

Senders only have to pay the postage to get their package of cards to us; we pay the postage to get everything to the recipients.

Every effort will be made to have the cards delivered to the recipients before the 4th weekend of December.

The Schedule

Recipient Sign-ups: Oct 2 thru Oct 15 2022

Sender Sign-ups & Submissions: Oct 16 thru Nov 7 2022

Card Ratings

Everyone who signs up to receive cards will choose an overall content rating threshold for the cards they receive. The two ratings are these:

I am comfortable receiving family-friendly cards only. (No cursing, adult themes, etc.)

I am comfortable with cards featuring cursing, adult themes, adult humor, etc.

Card Categories

Recipients will also mark which categories of cards they are comfortable receiving. This year, our categories are:

Hanukkah cards.

Both secular and pagan Winter Solstice cards.

Secular holiday cards, excluding "Merry Christmas." ("Happy holidays," "season's greetings," etc. only.)

Secular holiday cards, including "Merry Christmas."

Christian Christmas cards. (These may include crosses, Bible verses, nativity scenes, etc.)

New Year cards.

Random fandom holiday cards (of any fandom, with the exception of those listed by the recipient).

Card Requirements

After sign-ups have closed, we will announce how many cards of each category have been requested. Sender sign-ups will then open and the submission period will begin. Senders are NOT required to create enough cards for everyone–they may create as many or as few as they like.

You can either use commercial cards/postcards or create your own.

You must write at least one sentence of your own text and sign the card with either your real first name or your fandom name.

You can include a personalized insert if you’d like. When sending holiday cards, some people send out family photos/updates/etc. You can choose to include anything you’re comfortable with. Photos of pets are always welcome!

Cards do not all have to be the same.

Sending Cards

After completing the Sender Sign-up form and creating their holiday cards, senders should read through the following:

Before sending your package, you MUST complete the follow-up form to let us know how many cards you are sending, what categories they fall under, and what date they will be mailed.

All of your holiday cards should be packaged together and sent to the MFPE’s PO Box. (We love it when you separate the cards by category with rubber bands or other means and then put a post-it note on each stack stating which category they fall under. We love it, but it’s not necessary!)

You do not need to include envelopes, but if you have envelopes you’d like to donate to us, we certainly appreciate it!

You only have to pay the postage to get the package to us; we pay the postage to get everything to the recipients.

Well the plot of the (1st) story is that sun and moon find a map from an Angel called the Wishing angel (in this there are no gods just angels) the two want to complete quests given by the Map so they can wish away a very deadly and evil sickness that going around the world.

The multi-fandom comes from the fact that the world building I have is from a bunch of orginal story's and aus that are also some sort of fantasy related, so I thought "why not mush it togeather?" So we have fantasy fnaf, fantasy undertale, warrior cats, Tumblr, dnd, all kinds of things :) I just need to write the story's lmao

I hope this makes sense and isint to full of rambling 😅
