4. Take photos! Candids, selfies and posed group shots. They’ll hold the best memories.
“Merde, what are you doing?” Logan asked, resting his head on Leo's shoulder as he peered at the laptop.
Leo grinned, tipping his head back slightly so he could press a kiss against Logan’s cheek, “I’m getting inspiration.”
“That cleared a grand total of nothing up,” Logan huffed, circling the sofa so that he could flop next to Leo. “Oh my God, no. I thought I had deleted everything from back then” he groaned, reaching to close the lid of the device.
Leo swatted his hand away with a scowl. “First of all, I am offended that you never told me that you used to have bangs,” he gestured to the image of a young Logan on the screen, laughter bubbling in chest. “Second, I think you may have caught most yours, but you failed to check your tagged photos.”
Logan sighed again, apparently resigning himself to the fact Leo was going to trawl through the photos no matter what. “Is there at least a reason that you are torturing me like this?” he asked, curling into Leo’s side.
“It started off as me finding inspiration for classic high school photos to take with Reg, but now I’m just looking at how adorable you were at 14.” Leo chuckled.
***
“I want to be on the top!” James yelled, earning a snigger from Finn.
“No, Logan needs to go on the top, he’s the smallest and I’m not breaking my back for you idiots,” Kasey said from where he was braced on all fours.
“He’s actually very heavy. Like a tiny ball of muscle,” Finn said. Logan seemed conflicted as to whether he should be thanking his boyfriend or reprimanding him, the confused frown making Leo smile, but he figured he should intervene before a full on argument broke out.
“Maybe we should ask Regulus where he wants to go? These are his photos after all,” Leo suggested, turning his gaze onto the man in question.
Regulus threw his hands up, shaking his head. “I was coerced into this madness,” he defended. “But if I must participate then I want to go on top. At least then I don’t get squashed when this goes wrong.”
“O, yee of little faith,” Thomas scoffed, making a dramatic show of stretching his limbs.
“I’m retiring after this season, I’m too old for this,” Dumo groaned as he joined Kasey on the floor.
“You say this every season,” Kuny laughed, taking the spot next to Pascal and nudging him in the shoulder.
“Alright, Cap. I think you better go on the base too,” Leo said, laughing at the scowl he earned. It appeared that Sirius had been trying to make himself blend into the cushions in the hopes he might get out of the photo, but Leo wasn’t about to let him off that easily. “For Reg?”
“Regulus doesn’t even…” Sirius began to argue, but he was interrupted by his brother’s low chuckle.
“I have suddenly changed my mind. Come on Sirius, don’t be a spoil sport,” Regulus teased.
Sirius opened his mouth to start a rebuttal, but all that came out was a resigned sigh, and the man heaved himself to his feet, getting a loud cheer from the rest of the team. Once he had taken his spot, the rest of the pyramid seemed to form easily. James, Remus, Leo, Logan and Finn all climbed on, until eventually it was Regulus’s turn. With a little help from Timmy and Olli, the man managed to take his place at the top of the pyramid.
“Okay, Sergei, take the photo,” Leo instructed, feeling parts of the pyramid begin to shake.
“Which button is -” Sergei asked, before a semblance of a smile crossed his face. “Oh, found it.” Just as the words left Sergei’s mouth, Leo found himself tumbling to the floor, several of his team mates on top of him, a chorus of grumbling in several different languages erupting as they clutched various body parts.
“If anybody has broken anything, I am not explaining this to Coach,” Sirius declared, from under James and Finn.
“Did you at least get the photo?” Dumo asked.
“No, we need to do again,” Sergei grinned, a groan reverberating around the room from the rest of the team.
***
Regulus wiped his hand across his cheek so subtly that he nearly missed it, but the redness in his eyes was obvious.
“Are you crying?” Leo asked quietly, feeling the muscles 0f his forehead tense into a concerned frown.
“I’m fine,” Regulus said, blinking rapidly, shutting the scrapbook perched on his lap with a little more force than necessary. Leo had spent hours compiling the photos taken over the last few months into it: the forming a pyramid, two dozen or so polaroids taken at various events, a fair few with peace signs; the transition of Regulus slowly becoming more comfortable with the action obvious with each one, another was a take on the classic shoe circle only with hockey skates. Somehow James had snuck several selfies of himself into the mix.
“No, Reggie, what’s the matter?” Leo pulled the book from Regulus’s hands and put it on the coffee table, turning so that he could face his friend more easily.
Regulus shrugged, playing with the sleeve of his shirt, a nervous habit Leo had picked up on over the past few months. “I...I just never really had any friends in high school. It’s kind of hard when you’re taught to see everybody as competition, you know? So, I don’t really have any photos that aren’t stuffy family portraits or media shots. I didn’t realise that bothered me until now.”
Leo bundled Regulus into a hug, his friend making a disgruntled sound as he found himself pressed against Leo’s chest. “Just accept it,” Leo huffed, wondering how he had managed to find himself saddled with so many emotionally constipated hockey (or ex-hockey) players.
5. Find your style - change your hair, get a new piercing, buy a new outfit. Go wild!
“Hey, Reg,” Finn waved, mumbling through a mouthful of cheese.
“Harzy! Do you know how much that cheese cost?” Logan scolded, his expression somewhat more horrified than Leo would deem reasonable, “Please respect it.”
Leo grabbed his jacket, patting the pocket to ensure his wallet was inside. He rarely used his physical cards anymore, but it gave him far too much anxiety to rely on just his phone. “We’re leaving now. Try not to kill each other while we’re gone. It would be tragic to lose both of my boyfriends in one day,” he said, dropping a kiss first on to Finn’s cheek and then Logan’s.
“Bye Reg,” Finn waved again.
***
“Thank you,” Leo smiled at the cashier as he took his purchases from them. He looked down, noting that between the two of them they had amassed nearly twenty bags. Leo wasn’t usually one to spend money frivolously, but he had found himself swept away by Reg’s enthusiasm. Apparently when he wasn’t being stuffed into tight button ups and tailored pants, Regulus really rather enjoyed fashion. Finn would have been proud of the multiple pairs of trainers they had acquired so far. Still, they probably had enough for today.
Before Leo had a chance to suggest a change of activities, Regulus beat him to it. “Do you want to get some food?” he asked, the grumble of Leo’s stomach answering the question with no need for any words. Regulus laughed, “I’ll take that as a yes. Are you good to get Thai?”
Somehow over the course of filling their stomachs with curry and Pad Thai, an innocent comment about how Regulus would look cute with a piercing resulted in them walking into the nearest studio that had decent reviews. Regulus had changed into one of his new outfits: a loose black and white striped shirt, a pair of black pants cuffed at the legs and chunky white sneakers because his old outfit was deemed unsuitable for getting a piercing in.
Leo had just finished up getting his lip done, pamphlet of aftercare instructions clutched in his hand, and was waiting for Regulus to come out of his room. The boy had refused to tell him what exactly he was going to get done, and the anticipation was killing him. A few minutes later, Regulus pushed out the door to the small room and Leo’s eye was immediately drawn to the light catching Regulus’ eyebrow.
“Oh my God!” Leo exclaimed, wincing as the movement sent a surge of pain through his lip. “You look so good,” he added, moving to inspect the barbell peeking through Regulus’ brow.
“Thanks,” Regulus blushed at the approval. “Yours is cool too. Logan and Finn are going to freak out.”
“They sure are,” Leo chuckled. “Alright, I’ll settle this and then I’ll drop you back home?”
***
“I can’t believe I let you talk me into this,” Regulus scowled, reading the instructions on the back of the box of dye for what Leo was sure was the fiftieth time.
“I told you, you haven’t been a teenager unless you have made some questionable fashion choices,” Leo countered. “Except I’m going to look amazing with blue hair so it’s not really questionable.”
“Well, it can’t be worse than this anyway, right?” Regulus grimaced, gesturing to his bleached blond hair.
“Noughties boy band members would be jealous,” Leo laughed.
“It’s a shame it is neither the noughties anymore, nor am I a boy band member,” Regulus replied, shoving the box into Leo’s hands. “Just do it.”
A little over an hour later, Leo was nudging Reg in front of the mirror. “Okay, this was definitely not a mistake! We look amazing. I am taking up a career in hairdressing if I get injured,” Leo declared, holding his hand out for a high five. Whilst Regulus did return it, it was less enthusiastic than Leo had been going for. “You don’t like it?”
“No, I like it,” Regulus shook his head, dragging his fingers along the short sides. The cut wasn’t that different to what it had been before, other than a slightly more dramatic fade. “Just feels weird. My parents would die if they could see me.”
“Well, I think we look badass,” Leo said, running his hand through his own blue hair. He’d left the front long and floppy, deciding to go wild and undercut the back. “Come here, let me take a photo.”
Leo was glad that Regulus had finally learned that while he was not one to throw a tantrum, he did have his ways of getting what he wanted and it was easier for everyone if Regulus just compiled most of the time. The post had barely been up on their Instagram pages for more than 3 minutes when Leo’s phone began to vibrate, Logan’s flashing onto the screen.
“Regulus! Why did my little brother just call to tell me that he wants to dye his hair blue?” Remus yelled up the stairs as Leo picked the call up.
And if drug stores all over the country sold out of blue hair dye the next day? Well, Leo guessed there were worse trends to have started.

Ooooh boy! Welcome to a new side to writing from me!
This little one shot is probably the most angst ridden one I’ve ever written. It’s okay though, promise! This is also the first time I’ve ever written about the characters as Sides instead of a Human AU... Plus the main premise of this was based off a scene in Thor 2, a film I absolutely adore!
I hope you enjoy reading it. I loved writing it! <3

Logan rubbed his neck, it was still sore from where Janus yanked him away during the video. That wasn’t the only thing that was sore, his heart felt bruised too. He was ignored, skipped and still seen as an inconvenience. Hell, he turned himself into a textbox so he was out of the way. Was that not enough?
Despite the rage and the heartbreak he felt surging through him. He couldn’t help but feel a need to check on Patton. Even though he was angry when he appeared back one final time, he noticed that Patton wasn’t… himself. The way he desperately tried to beg Logan to stay, the pleading in his eyes… something must have happened when he was taken away. He needed to find out what.
He walked through the Mind Palace cautiously, he could still feel the anger swelling in his chest and he didn’t want to take it out on anyone unnecessarily. He couldn’t do that to the others. Their intentions were in the right place, but all of them got clouded by their own judgements… by their own emotions, including him. He chuckled bitterly, Janus was right in the courtroom all along.
‘I don’t feel anything.’
‘Oh, of course you don’t.’
Right now, it was impossible to deny that Janus has been right all along. He was feeling more than it was possible to express. Including a sense of relief when he walked down the corridor and noticed that all of the room doors were shut tight. Everyone must be wallowing in their own problems, so he wouldn’t need to speak to anyone apart from the one person he was genuinely concerned about. He reached Patton’s door and knocked softly three times, one long, two short. He heard a sigh from the other side of the door and he wasn’t expecting what he saw when the door swung open.
“Logan!” Patton shouted in an overly positive voice. His smile was plastered onto his face, as if he was wearing a mask. There was a soft, yellow glow around him and the room had the same glow. Almost as if it was covered in gold.
“I didn’t think I would see you today! We… didn’t exactly treat you very well earlier. I wouldn’t blame you for being angry with all of us for a while.” Logan stared at Patton, the smile didn’t falter… didn’t change at all. He knew that none of this was real. The mask was slipping, the voice didn’t match the ‘happy-pappy-Patton’ he knew. That’s when he realised, he needed to try and help.
“Is… there something you needed?” Patton laughed gently, but the gold outline around him was begin to crackle and his eyes were shifting back and forth, almost willing Logan to leave… practically begging him to leave. To let him fight this battle alone. Logan wasn’t going to let that happen. He took one step forward, gave Patton a soft smile and called out into the room.
“Patton, enough. Please. No more illusions.” His voice projected a sadness he didn’t even know he could feel. The fact that Patton needed to hide how he was feeling to such an extent, even from him, showed that the events that happened after he was removed must have been catastrophic.
Patton sighed once more, he bowed his head and the façade cracked, shattered and melted away. The gold outline started to fall from the ceiling. Patton began to disappear, leaving a gold shimmer in his place. The room fell into disrepair causing Logan to gasp. He knew that Patton kept a lot of different things in his room; photos, old books… pretty much any and all memories pertaining to Thomas. So to see such anger in a generally positive space, it was quite hard to look at. The books that were usually so delicately kept on bookshelves were tossed onto the floor, the dents in the wall showed the sheer force that some of them had been thrown across the room. Photos that were kept in piles based on the year they were taken were scattered carelessly around the entire wall. Frames with Thomas’ accomplishments were shattered, the things that Patton was proudest of, reduced to target practice. Logan claimed to not feel anything. The state of the room was a shock to be sure, but when he looked over at the bed, his heart broke right there on the spot.
He heard a small laugh, something that made him shudder as he saw Patton sit up on the bed. The sheets torn up, and the pillows ripped in half. His eyes were red raw from crying, his voice came out as a hoarse whisper. The cardigan normally lovingly wrapped around his shoulders was tossed into the bin, along with his polo shirt with his logo on it. A large hoodie covered him instead, he looked up at Logan, waiting for him to make some kind of comment.
“Now you see me, Logan.” He laughed in a monotonous way. Logan slowly took steps closer to the bed. He took his steps cautiously and Patton noticed the hesitation.
“I’ve hurt everyone… I- I couldn’t control myself. Janus was asking so many questions as you. I- I didn’t know the answers. I turned into Lilypadton. I hurt Thomas, something I swore I would never do. I’m supposed to be… good. I’m supposed to help protect him. I- I- I hurt you! I skipped things you were saying, I didn’t realise you were replaced. I didn’t mean to hurt everyone. I- I don’t know what to do… I’m a monster, Logan.” Patton’s body wracked with sobs, this uncontrollable pain radiated from him. As he started to glow a dark blue, Logan raced over and wrapped his arms around Patton as tight as he could.
Patton was rigid for a little while, but eventually he caved in and buried his head into Logan’s chest. He rubbed his back and told him repeatedly that everything was going to be okay. This was new for Logan, it’s been a long time since he felt this… helpless? He didn’t know if that was the right word, but he definitely felt unsure what to do. All he knew is that Patton needed him.
“Hey, listen to me. You must have been so overwhelmed and confused. Morality isn’t a cut and dry concept, you’re doing everything you can to help Thomas. Getting overwhelmed sometimes is nothing to be ashamed about. It’s part of nature. You can’t know everything the whole time. Thomas will end up in scenarios that will cause all of us to stumble and be uncertain.” He pushed Patton back so he could look him in the eyes and reassure him that things will be okay. He brushed his hair out of his face so he could look Patton right in the eyes. He couldn’t help but smile as Patton reluctantly looked up at him.
“You are not a monster. You can never think that, Patton. We’ve all made mistakes… but we grow as we go… we grow and learn with Thomas. No one thinks you’re a monster, least of all me. Okay?” Logan held Patton by the shoulders, and he seemed to relax more with every word. The tears were slowly stopping, but he could tell that Patton was trying to figure out how to say something. So he waited until he was ready.
“B- but, I hurt people. I hurt the people I care about most.” It was almost as if he was looking for any reason to keep beating himself up, to keep feeling miserable. Logan wasn’t having it.
“Patton, we’ve all been there. We’ve all hurt people, and we’ve been hurt in return. That’s just how things go. You are good, Patton. You apologised to Thomas, you worked out things out. You made some very clever observations about morality with Thomas. ‘A more mature person comes with more mature, moral questions…?’ Being able to admit that you don’t always know the answer, but you’ll still keep fighting anyway. Now that’s brave.” Patton smiled, it was a relief to see he smile and genuinely mean it this time. Logan wrapped his arms around Patton once again and he immediately hugged him back.
He had to admit, this was nice.
“I’m going to use yours and Thomas’ words against you. So bear with me… Look, Patton. You’re not perfect, just like the rest of us… but those imperfections, don’t make you any less worthy of love. I want you to remember that.” He could feel the happiness radiate off of Patton, there was a light blue glow surrounding him, and he pulled away from Logan.
“Thank you, Logan. I don’t know what I would do without you.” Logan smiled, it was nice to feel appreciated again. Despite everything, he felt infinitely better now.
“You’re most welcome, Patton. Would you like me to go now?” He secretly hoped the answer would be no. They needed each other, even if it was just for a night.
“Actually… Could you read to me? Can we carry on with Lord of the Rings?” Logan felt relieved and immediately grabbed his book off Patton’s bookshelf. He climbed onto the bed and waited for Patton to get comfortable next to him. He turned to the page they left off on while Patton eventually rested his head on Logan’s shoulder.
After a while, Patton fell asleep so Logan put the bookmark on the page and gently placed it on the table next to the bed. He carefully removed Patton’s glasses and took his off as well. As he drifted off to sleep as well, one last thought entered his mind.
Patton had his moments, but all in all, he was Logan’s hero too.

Chapter 7:
Fast!
Bar Playlist: Youtube, Spotify
Fishing In the Dark
“Okay Logan, we are going to be on Peanut together. Sound good?” Leo held a kiss dazed Logan’s face in his hands as they spent the last hour convincing Logan to go on the trail ride with them. Kissing him until he couldn’t focus on his fear was seeming to work the best. Finn got in on it too before he had gotten on his own horse, along with most of the team. Celeste and Dumo decided to stay behind and help Judy clean up.
Leading a still dazed Logan over to Peanut he helps him up, Leo following soon after. Hands under Logan's arms holding the reins. Lo was leaning back into Leo’s chest and only noticed they were on a living vehicle when said vehicle started moving to join the others.
Leo rubbed a soothing hand over his side to let him know he was okay. Finn and Clay trotted over to Leo and Logan with a smile on their faces. There was a brown Burmese cat that was lazily stretched across Leroy’s rear behind Clay.
“It’s about time! From what I’ve heard Logan is pretty good at riding, should transfer over to equine.” Clay winks and Logan smacks Leo’s arm as he tries to hide his laugh. “Just know that Leo tells me everything… even stuff I don’t want to know. But I do the same with him.” Clay shrugs and turns around going over to Thomas, Noelle and Reg, the cat just fully relaxed as Leroy bumped it around.
“How long have you had him?” Thomas vaguely gestures to Clay and his posse.
“About 4 years, found him in the woods eating a rabbit.” Clay smiles at him as they ride side by side down the trail Leo and Logan were leading. Jerry, a little song bird that loves to ride with Leo anytime he goes down the trail perching himself on the rim of Leo’s hat.
“Wha- I thought horses were herbivores!” Clay looks up at a confused Thomas and raises an eyebrow, then it clicks.
“Oooohhhh, you think Leroy is a HE! Nope, she’s a mare! Had her since I was 9 years old. Tina is a man though, fathers all the kitties around the farm.” Smiling his million dollar smile at him. “I also have a sand boa named William-”
“Snakespear?” Clay blinks a few times and laughs nodding.
“Is it that obvious?”
“Maybe to some of us who… maybe still browse Tumblr on occasion.” Thomas winks at him causing Clay's face to heat up, swallowing the happy feelings that he knows he can’t have. He smiles back and trots ahead to be next to Logan and Leo.
Logan was gripping Leo’s wrist the entire trail ride, Finn was so distracted at one point Kuny let go of a tree branch and it smacked him across the face because he didn’t listen when he was told to duck.
It was a nice relaxing ride through the countryside, nothing fancy, just an easy going adventure. Everyone made it back to the pasture in one piece, thank god, everyone was hopping off and unsaddling the horses.
Leo got off Peanut first just for a moment, in that moment he watched Logan completely freak out when Peanut took three steps to the left to graze. Hiding his smiling by sucking his lips in between his teeth, walking over to Lo he helped him off of the horse. Logan was clinging to Leo like a koala, and tight enough it was hard for Leo to breath.
“You okay?” Leo put a hand under Logan’s booty to support him and ran his other hand through his soft curls. Hoping he felt safe now.
“I am now.” Logan looks up at him and smiles before lightly nipping at his jaw. Leo laughs a little and nods a thank you to Reg who is un saddling Peanut. Leading everyone inside to relax until they go out later tonight. Walking into the entrance hall and kicking off his boots all while holding Logan still.
“I thought these were school pictures!” Jackson, or Nado as the team calls him, points to the bunches of framed photos of Leo. “Are these… mugshots!?” He laughs in disbelief. The rest of the team starts to examine the pictures more closely. Some pictures had Leo with bruises or blood, some had him smiling with a middle finger up or peace signs, others had him looking annoyed. His younger one from when he was like 12 -13 years old were of him looking scared or crying.
“Yeah, they are all my mugshots from when I was, I think, 12 to this year. The Sheriff doesn't like us at all, arrests Clay and I for random reasons and even if, like when we were younger we would call the cops because someone vandalized the gate to the ranch and tried to break in. I got arrested for a false call. I was 14 I think. The cops are definitely not afraid to use force with us either… I hope he fucking leaves us alone while y’all are down visiting.” Leo is looking at his first mugshot ever of him sobbing at 12 years old. The week of his birthday, someone threw a rock through a window at a shop and blamed him.
“Is this your sister?” Timmy points to a mugshot of Eloise from last year and Reg bursts out laughing, Clay snorts and Leo looks confused.
“That’s my mom…”
Hours later, the drunk trio had already left for the bar to get a table and to talk to some of their friends they haven’t seen since the beginning of summer. The team was in their little ranch hand house getting ready, the speakers in the house all blaring Fast! By Sueco the Child because they know… they know there will be nothing but yeehaw music to assault and molest their ears tonight.
Thomas was pulling his grey shirt over his head, smoothing the fabric down as Noelle chills in her sweatpants and his t-shirt. People who didn’t want to go out are going over to Clay’s house to learn a bunch of mixed drink recipes and to talk shit. It was mostly the girls who didn’t feel comfortable getting harassed by middle aged men with beer guts, Dumo and Celeste who have become close friends with Judy overnight, and people who didn’t like going out in general. Like Olli, Adam, Timmy, and Sergei.
“We should talk to him.” Thomas sits down next to her and wraps an arm around her shoulders, kissing her forehead. Looking at the ceiling all he can think about is how easy they got along with Clay. How his smile and Noelle together made his heart speed up. When they both turned to look at him earlier he thought he was going to have a heart attack.
“I think you need to talk to him first, this is something new for you. To like a man. I- I’m not going to lie the thought of Clay and you separately give me the same feelings, but you two together. It makes me feel the happiest I’ve ever felt. Do you maybe want to talk to Lo or Finn before we talk to Clay? To make sure this isn’t just us… I don’t know, using Clay in a way we don’t mean to?”
“Yeah, I think that's a good idea. But when can we get them away from Leo long enough to talk to them?” Looking at his watch and hearing all the thumping down the stairs he gives her one last kiss before standing up and stretching.
“You could try to corner one of them tonight?” She smiles at him and winks at him as he shakes his head. “Have a good time tonight, Babe.”
“You too.” He heads out the bedroom down and down the stairs. He was riding with James and Coops to the Bar but maybe he would try to switch and ride with Finn and Logan.
“Red-ay!” James slings his arm around his shoulders and ruffles his hair. He thinks for a moment, then sees Finn swinging the keys to his rental car on his finger as Logan is on the ground struggling to yank his boots on. He was wearing heavy combat boots to dance around at a ‘Honkey-Tonk’ as Leo calls it. Seems like a bad idea.
“Actually I think I’m gonna tag along with Finn and Logan.” He smiles at James who shrugs and slaps his back before running off. Walking over to Finn, he looks down at Logan and gives Finn an ‘is he serious?’ look.
“He doesn’t want to be called short by all the hot cowboys and these are the tallest shoes he owns.” Sighing he looks back at Logan who is laying flat on the ground out of breath from fighting with his shoes. Reaching out he helps him up. “What’s up?”
“I’m gonna ride with you if that's fine.”
“Sounds good, let's go.” Finn skips to the car while Thomas and Logan walk side by side. Getting in the car, Thomas was squished into the backseat. As soon as the doors close he is asking questions.
“How did you guys know?”
“Know what?” Logan looks back at him as Finn starts the car. Thomas looks out his window watching the other cars pull out and start driving towards the gate.
“Know that three was the perfect number for you…” He looks back at them and sees them share a look for a moment, having a silent conversation before Logan climbs into the back with Thomas.
“It took us a long time to figure out, but we knew that Leo was for us because we could barely function as a couple without him. Like we could do it but, it just wouldn’t be the same. There was always something missing after we both started getting feelings for him.” Logan sighs a little. “It's hard to explain but it was like there was always a perfect Leo sized gap wherever we went. Once we both realized we wanted him, and he wanted us… it was a no brainer to ask him to be with us.”
“It’s definitely a feeling of loss when they leave and it's just you two together. So maybe it will cement your feelings when you get away from that person for a while. If they are the main topic of conversation when it's just you and Noelle… maybe three is the perfect number for you as well.” Finn smiles at him as he drives past the gate and follows the google map to the bar.
“What if we have already had time without them and.. We- I don’t know, we want to talk to them but I’m scared because.” He gulps and wipes his sweaty palms on his jeans. “Because I’ve never felt this way towards a guy before.” Finn blinks a couple of times and Logan nods, making a noise of understanding.
“ It’s a scary feeling at first, I freaked out for a long time until I finally met Finn. Then I freaked out even more and actually tried to leave the Frat. Then I finally let myself fall and I fell fast and in the stupidest way.” He laughs a little remembering when he realized he was in love with Finn. “Basically Finn had this mini basketball hoop in our dorm room the first year we had to share a room. Second semester I finally gave in to my desire for him. We had sex, honestly it was terrible because neither of us had any fucking clue what we were doing. But after, this bitch!” He starts laughing as Finn starts getting red on the tips of his ears from embarrassment. “He got up after like two minutes of cuddling because he had so much energy and started playing basketball! I was curled up in my duvet watching him with a sore ass, and a stupid smile… That's when I knew he was for me.” Smiling at Finn, just absolutely in love he turns to look at Thomas who is still laughing a little.
“I think I realized I liked… This person after they sent me a video of them playing a harmonica really annoyingly and another person in the car threw it out the window and he pulled another one out of his pocket.” Snickering, he smiles at them. “Thanks for not freaking out on me, Noelle told me to talk to you guys because she also really really likes Clay.” He realizes he just said the name he was trying to avoid and looks at them a little worried.
“It was pretty obvious how she was flirting with him all afternoon, and you just kind of watched and looked like a little puppy following them around.” Logan moves out of the way as Thomas tries to smack his arm and puts his hands up in surrender. “Sorry! Sorry! I meant like the big strong manly man you are.” Laughing, Finn pulls into a parking spot in front of the bar and shuts the car off.
Walking into the bar the smell of sweat and beer washed over them, making them scowl for a moment. They spot Reg talking to a blonde girl with a red cowgirl hat on. Leo and Clay are already hustling a game of pool with some people who look about the same age as them. The team made their way to the tab Reg was at and got comfortable. Ordering drinks and listening to music. Leo and Clay stopped by after losing $100 on the pool game. Chatting for a few moments when suddenly a sound like bagpipes came over the speakers.
Thomas watched as Clay's face completely lit up, dragging Leo out onto the dance floor. Everyone got into orderly lines and started stepping and dancing to the song all the same. It was mesmerizing. Thomas would be lying if he said he didn’t watch Clay completely lose himself in the music and didn’t have to take a drink to cure his cottonmouth. Especially when those goldish lights would land on them.
Making them even brighter than before, the lights giving Clay’s skin a bronze glow. When Clay pulled his tank top out of the waistband of his jeans, he choked on his beer. Patting his back Finn was chuckling as he watched Leo dance.
He moved so easily, like it was second nature, the dance didn’t look hard but Finn was known to have two left feet off the ice. The lights were amazing, making Leo’s hair poking out from under his hat look like gold leaf.
He was beautiful.
It was obvious that Leo and Clay were platonic soulmates, they mirrored every move perfectly. They had fun and acted like they were the only ones on the floor and whipping their heads back and forth to the beat of the music made Clay kick Leo by accident and he would just laugh.
Once the song was over Logan, Leo, Sirius, Thomas and Clay all went to smoke outside. Sirius and Thomas were out there to get some fresh air while Logan and Leo traded a cig back and forth. Clay puffed on his own and closed his eyes looking up to the sky. Hearing Footloose come on over the speakers Logan and Leo rushed inside because that was one song Logan actually knew how to dance to.
Leo joined him on the floor and would laugh but catch him anytime he would stumble with his boots. He would end up spinning Logan back into place and singing off key from behind him.
Reg was watching his friends as he spoke with Kuny about the wildly different styles of boots and hats people were wearing when a panicked looking Clayton came up to him. Grabbing his arm and walking towards the one dark lit corner of the bar and kicking a couple who was making out, out of the corner. He turns to Reg. Watching someone behind Reg walk towards the door and leave.
“You alright?”
“Thomas just kissed me…” Looking at him with wide eyes looking so lost, Reg grabs his arm to make sure he doesn’t bolt. “He kissed me and he has a girlfriend Reg! I- I’m not a homewrecker I swear!”
“Whoa whoa, hey Clay. Look at me.” Clay makes eye contact with him and starts to relax. “Thomas isn’t the type of person to just kiss someone out of nowhere, and I bet he is going to tell Noelle right away. It’s okay.”
“But Reg, I really like them… like in the way Leo likes both Logan AND Finn. I don’t want to lose them. I just figured it out the other night. I was never going to act on it because, its pretty fucking rare, but now Thomas did and- and what do I do!”
“How about we go and sit down for a couple of songs? Maybe dancing might help you out because it always seems to relax you. Okay?” Clay nods and follows Reg back to the table, after a few fidgeting moments he goes to the bar and orders a couple of shots and takes them all in a matter of seconds. Taking a deep breath he starts to relax. He feels a familiar hand run from his shoulder to his hip.
Ashley.
“Long time no see, huh.” She smiles a sly smile at him and leans her back on the bar. She was wearing a low spaghetti strap tank top and painted on blue jeans with red boots that look like Clay’s. He swallows a little. She did look good, and he was getting to be just drunk enough to be horny.
“What do you want?” She catches him looking at her boobs and smirks; he flushes red and turns around to also lean his back on the bar, looking out to the dance floor where some of the team has joined Leo in dancing to Hillbilly Bone by Trace Adkins. He looked at the table and noticed Reg staring directly at him.
“I just wanted to say hi, looks like you’ve really been taking care of yourself.” She feels his arm that he unintentionally flexes and she squeezes his muscle. He looks at Reg one last time, making his decision, he looks back at her and nods towards the door.
He leaves with her.
“Are you fucking kidding me.” Reg watches him leave. Absolutely shocked. He gets up from the table and walks onto the floor, walking over to Leo he taps his shoulder. Leaning down so Reg can talk into his ear, Reg tells Leo exactly what happened.
Looking up and around the bar he can’t spot Clay anywhere, he excuses himself from the group and walks outside with Reg. Seeing Clay’s truck is still there they walk over to it and knock on the window before looking in. Empty. They left.
“Fuck. I’m texting Judy.” Leo does exactly that.
Leo, having taken a few drinks to calm down, lets himself relax. He was at a bar with his friends and boyfriends, he could have a little bit of fun. They all decided they were leaving in an hour anyway.
So when Fishing in the dark by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band starts he grabs Finn and pulls him close swaying to the beat of the music as he mumbles the words into his neck, still stressing about Clay leaving like that. Holding Finn as close to him as he could he let himself just forget about anything but the man in direct contact with his body.
Once the song had finished he stood there still holding Finn for an extra couple of moments, letting Finn kiss the top of his head, his hat being on Logan’s head who was sitting at the table because his feet hurt. They eventually pull apart and start back towards the table.
“Oh fucking Christ!” Leo sighs as he notices who has taken his chair at the table. Ashley’s brother and the Sheriff’s son. David. He walks over and stands next to the chair. “What the hell are you doing over here?”
“I’m socializing with some new people, you didn’t bring them. Why would they want anything to do with you?” He laughs and his lackeys on the other side of the chair also laugh and slap his shoulder.
“Actually they did come here with me.” He crosses his arms and the rest of the team is looking a little uncomfortable and confused. “So if you and your shithead friends would oh so kindly leave. I would appreciate it.” Narrowing his eyes David stands up in a way that is sizing Leo up. Leo raises an unimpressed brow because David is a good five inches shorter than him and a scrawny man.
“Do they know you’re a fucking faggot? That you’re a cockslut? A fairy?”
“Why do you think we are here?” James pipes up and the three idiots across the table look at him in shock.
“You’re a whore, I could never!” David looking back at Leo and jabbing a finger in his chest. Looking David up and down slowly with a cringed face he nods.
“Yeah, you couldn’t. Now, I believe I asked y'all to leave.” Leo points with his thumb behind him.
“You’re dad would be so proud.” Leo grabs him by the collar of his shirt and aggressively pulls him closer to him with a look of pure fury on his face.
“What the fuck did you just say?”
“I said. you’re disgusting dad-” Leo is pulled away from David by Sirius.
“At least my dad wasn’t a murder!”
“AT LEAST MY DAD DIDN’T KILL HIMSELF!” Leo stops fighting against Sirius’ grip and calmly gets away from him, storming out the doors, kicking them open and walking towards his truck. Kicking rocks up and trying his best to hold himself together. Getting into his truck he slams the door and grips the steering wheel, pressing his forehead against the hot plastic and squeezing his eyes shut as tight as he can.
Minutes later Finn and Logan crawl into the truck in silence. Leo goes to apologize but they hush him and just give him understanding smiles and both of them cup one of his cheeks. He was so close to crying but he just couldn’t. Not in front of them, the people who are supposed to see him at his best.
Once they get home everyone goes to their rooms and Leo walks down behind the barn to the pond.
He spends the night by himself under his dad’s tree.

A/N: this is my first writing of smut. It may not be too good but I've not seen many Henry Cavill and Sebastian Stan x Reader smuts. Also if I stole your gif please inform me.
Word Count: 3740
Summary: You are best friends with Henry and Sebastian. You are a famous actor that is acting in a movie with both where there is a threesome sex scene. After the premiere, Henry and Sebastian decide they want the real thing.
Tumblr media
"You, Avyanna, are a beautiful woman. Don't you think so, Rand?" Henry says as his character, Logan. His voice was deep and sultry, his pupils blown wide, only a bit of blue showing.
"Very much so,” Sebastian says as his own character, Rand. His voice a bit less deep than Henry's but still in a lower octave. His bluish grey eyes showed the same desire as Henry's, full of want.
Sebastian and Henry have been your friends for a very long time, and you'd be lying if you said you didn't want this moment to be real. Though, as much as you wanted it, you valued their friendship too much and refused to ruin it based solely on wanting their cocks buried inside your holes. Every chance, every joking suggestion, anything they’ve ever said that alluded to them wanting you just as mush as you wanted them- you remembered it. Their words and actions flow through your train of thought making you forget what you’re doing.
When you came back to yourself in the scene, Henry was kissing your chest while Sebastian was working on getting your dress off. You were letting out little whines, wanting them to do more to you. Once your dress was off, Henry started to kiss more of your breast, biting down gently on the soft flesh.
Sebastian managed to tear your bra off. He didn’t know if that was his own strength or if it was because his character was supposed to be strong and full of desire, but regardless, he managed to do it. With the bra out of the way Henry moved his head to start sucking on your nipple, swirling his tongue around the bud, making you moan loudly.
You stood in between them, silently begging for them to touch you. There was no answer to your pleas. Instead, they continued to stand there, talking about how beautiful you looked in your maroon gala dress.
After Henry deemed your nipples abused enough by his mouth he picked you up and carried you to the couch. He laid you down and moved to get his shirt off. Sebastian already stood their naked, although the crew had him put something over his cock to make it invisible to the audience. Henry had the same thing because well, Hollywood.
Sebastian looked at you both as he walked over and kissed you roughly. Henry continued to undress as he watched the two of you, immensely enjoying the view.
Once Henry's clothes were fully off he tapped Sebastian's shoulder to tell him to move. Sebastian kisses down your chest and to your ankle missing your mound. He kisses up to your thigh and runs his fingers through your folds before moving his head between your thighs and flicking your clit with his tongue.
Henry kissed you deeply, swallowing your moans as one of your hands went to Henry's hair and the other went to Sebastian's and tugs on it wanting him to continue. You let go of his hair when he tapped your thigh.
You got up from the couch for Henry to sit down. You make it look like your taking his cock in your ass and Sebastian makes it look like he's putting his cock in your pussy. They both make it look like they're waiting for you to be used to them. After a good few minutes they start to thrust as Sebastian thrusts in, Henry pulls out and vise versa. It goes like this for a long while before you scream out in pleasure and cum hard. And it wasn't no Hollywood fake moaning shit, no you actually came. Henry and Sebastian held back their shocked expressions and faked their orgasms.
After the director called cut you ran off to your dressing room, quickly. You sat in your dressing room, bawling your eyes out thinking you had just ruined your friendship. All sorts of horrible thoughts went through your head.
Henry and Sebastian, however, sat there shocked that you had just came on camera. They look at each other before getting up and grabbing their clothes putting them on. "That was fucking hot." They mumbled to themselves as they walked away and went to their rooms.
------------------------------------------------
As you guys continued to film the movie, you avoided them like they were the plague. Every time they were near you off set, you moved to go stand next to another co-star. It was clear in their eyes that they were hurt but they couldn't say anything; of course, they couldn't, they were scared you would tell them you didn't want to be friends anymore.
------------------------------------------------
Finally, on the last day of filming, you talked to them.
"Henry, Sebastian." You addressed them
Henry looked at you, surprised that you were finally talking to him. "Y/n..." He trailed off wanting to ask what happened but he couldn't. He was scared it'd make you run off.
"What happened?" Sebastian asked bluntly, a bit annoyed that it took you so long and fusterated because he didn't know why. "Why'd you stop talking to us and started to avoid us like the plague?"
"You two should know damn well why." You said in a cocky tone.
"Because you fucking came on screen? Because you came while we were fucking you in a scene? So fucking what? That doesn't mean it changes anything." Sebastian kept his voice at a normal volume for him. He didn't want to make you run off if he yelled or raised his voice.
"Yes! Because I shouldn't have! I should've faked it like you two did." You mumbled the last part
"Hm, I've gotten used to sex scenes." Henry says and shrugs. It was true but he was also trying to make you feel better.
"Same here. I've gotten used to doing them. Plus when your just ramming your cock against some you kinda get turned off. I mean, it's just ramming your cock against someone." Sebastian says with a shrug
"Well... I.. I've never acted in one like that..." You say softly
"Niether have we but, like we said, we've gotten used to sex scenes." Henry says and looks at you.
Henry moves to wrap his arms around you. Sebastian does the same and kisses your forehead in a friendly way.
"there was no reason to avoid us for cumming on camera. Especially with us." Sebastian says and holds you close wrapping an arm around Henry.
"We should get going, the sets gonna close down then we gotta go to our houses and get ready for premieres." Henry speaks up after a good five minutes of cuddling up to each other. Henry is the first to let go then Sebastian then you.
After looking at each other for a good minute, you all went your seperate ways.
-------------------------------------------------
After about two months, the premiere finally happened. You wore a beautiful purple dress that showed off your breasts and your legs with gold heals. Your stylist picked the color because it went perfect with Henry and Sebastian's dark grey suits. You liked the dress but the long slit was starting to get a bit annoying as sometimes it would move in the wrong way and showed off your black lacy panties.

You took pictures with the two men and a lot of interviewers were asking about the sex scene and how good it would be. Henry and Sebastian did their best to not answer the questions but if they had to, they kept it extremely vague. The answer they gave the most was "you'll have to watch the movie." You mainly ignored the questions and moved on to the next interviewer if the previous one pressed.
After all the interviews were done, you guys decided to do a bit of photos with fans and signed some things for fans. After finishing with that, you guys rushed to the movie theater and went to the seats.
All up until the sex scene you three enjoyed the movie immensely and complimented each other on how good the acting was. Then came the sex scene, you three were silent and just watched it. You couldn’t see it since it was so dark but your best friends’ pants were tented. Henry was shifting in his seat trying to get it to go down but as the sex scene went on, it just got worse. Sebastian was having the same problem, but he didn’t bother with it trying to just let it go down on its own. It wasn’t until it came to the moment when you came hard and with a scream that they both just say, “fuck it” and put their hands on your thighs. You looked at them quickly with desire and shock. You decided not to say anything until their hands went higher. You grabbed their hands and looked at them, “What are you doing?” you ask a bit louder than you meant to which made people “shh” you.
“Isn’t this what you wanted?” Henry whispers in your ear and you can hear the smirk in his voice.
“For us to touch you. For us to fuck you like the movie.” Sebastian whispers and kisses your neck making a hickey on it.
You blushed red like a tomato and looked at them. “Yes but… I didn’t think you guys wanted that…”
“Oh, I’ve always wanted you but seeing you cum like that, for us, I finally see that I really do.” Henry says and kisses your neck making a few marks on it before turning to watch the rest of the movie fingering you.
Sebastian ignored the movie and sucked on your neck rubbing your clit and using his other hand to massage your breast in his hand.
 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
You all arrived in a limousine so you didn’t have to worry about who would get to your house first. Once you were all sat in the limo and it was driving off, Henry was fingering you with those thick fingers and Sebastian was rubbing your clit while you palmed them through their pants and went back and forth between kissing them deeply and kissing their necks leaving your own marks. All the way to your home, they didn’t take their hands off of you.
Henry started to suck on your nipples just like the movie, he nibbled on the soft flesh of your breast, and he continued to finger you. Sebastian made hickeys on your neck as he continued to rub your clit letting Henry have most of you for now. You knew by the end of the night you would be filled with hickeys and you didn’t mind one bit.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once you guys arrived at your house, you all rushed out of the limo thanking the driver before rushing to the door. You unlocked the door and near body checked it open as it wouldn’t budge at first. Henry was the first to walk in, then Sebastian, then you. The second the door was shut, Henry had you pinned to it and kissing you roughly as you locked the door. Sebastian was getting his jacket and shirt off not daring to waste anymore time. Henry pulled away when you both desperately needed air and Sebastian got to his knees in front of you kissing the soft flesh of your thighs. He pulls you up so your legs are on his shoulders as he licks a stripe from your pussy to your clit and sucks on your clit. He moves to lick your hole and slides his tongue in devouring you like a man who hasn’t eaten in days.
Henry got his suit off down to his boxers before he walks over to you both and starts to massage your breasts in his hands. He starts to suck on the sweet skin of your breast and makes some hickeys on them.
Soon you cried out their names, arched your back, and came for the first time that night and it sure wouldn’t be the last.
They both moved away from your body and stood up. Sebastian moving your legs from his shoulders to around his waist and carrying you up to your room. He placed you down on the bed and smirked at you, admiring the view. Henry admired the view from afar as he shut the door. He knew no one was going to come into your house but he felt more comfortable that way and you wouldn’t dare comment on it.
Once they were both on the bed, their hands were all over you.
Sebastian ran his hands over the outside of your thighs as he kisses your neck while Henry kissed you roughly and massaged your sides gently wanting to give your breasts a quick break. Sebastian moved his hands from the outside of your thighs to the inside and slowly moved them higher pushing two fingers into you slowly making sure you could take it. He made sure to open you wide enough that you could take either of their cocks. Henry had you flip over, and he started to run his hands over your ass. He smacked it a few times and another few times after you let out delicious moans.
Henry moved to look you in the eyes “how do you feel about anal?” He asks bluntly not wanting to beat around the bush.
“I’ve never done it but it’s something I’m open to.” You admit and look him in the eyes to let him know you are serious.
Henry nods and gives you two of his fingers to suck on before moving the newly wet fingers to your hole and starts to push one finger in. He slowly moves it making sure to watch your face for any signs of wanting to stop or long bouts of pain. Once he deems you’ve gotten used to it he pushed his next finger in and slowly moves them, again watching your face. He kissed you roughly and started to move his fingers a bit faster swallowing your moans. Once he deems you open enough to take either of their cocks, he pulls them out.
Henry and Sebastian look at each other for a moment before moving to claim their holes. Sebastian claimed your pussy and Henry claimed your ass. They knew they’d have you go again if you were up for it and would switch holes then.
You moved from your spot on the bed and let Henry lay down. You moved and slowly took his cock into your ass. Sebastian moves and slowly enters your pussy. They both wait for you to be ready before they start to thrust. As Sebastian moves out, Henry moves in and vise versa. They alternate between kissing you, devouring your sweet screams and moans, and kissing your neck marking you more. You had a feeling they wouldn’t stop until you were fully covered in them and you were right because once they ran out of room on your neck, they moved to your shoulders. You knew you were getting close after a while as you started to clench around their cocks screaming out their names and arching your back into Sebastian. You held onto Henry’s hand and Sebastian’s shoulder as they whispered sweet nothings into your ear. You cried out their names and came hard, your thighs twitching with the aftershocks. After a bit came Henry then came Sebastian who whispered something about breeding you.
“I’m going to fill you up with my cum and watch you grow with my babies.” He growls right before he came with a loud groan of pleasure.
Henry and Sebastian continued to thrust a little bit more after that to help you ride it out. Once you were settled they switched holes and Henry started fucking you so hard and fast, Sebastian actually had to tell him to slow down and give him a chance. Once they got back into their old rhythm they both picked up the pace allowing you no time to get used to them. Henry was a bit bigger than Sebastian, but it just added a little more pleasure as he filled you up so full it was actually visible in your lower abdomen. You cried and screamed out their names as they allowed you no mercy as they thrusted in and out of your precious holes.
Soon enough you came again and actually blacked out, they got worried for a second before realizing what it was and calmed down, finishing inside your holes. Sebastian pulled out first and looked around your room for anything that was like a plug. Once he found an actual plug he walked back over. Henry pulled out and Sebastian pushed the plug in gently. He smirked knowing you could possibly get pregnant with one, if not both, of their children.
Once they were done admiring your body, Henry went to the bathroom and grabbed rag wetting it before bringing it over and cleaning you up. He found your underwear draw and put some panties on you. He went downstairs after to grab his and Sebastian’s suits as well as some water and snacks for when you wake up.
Sebastian held you close and kissed your forehead whispering sweet words to you. Once Henry was back, Sebastian grabbed his shirt and put it on you then Henry grabbed his blazer and put it on you. Henry put the water and snacks on the side table before looking at you fully and pulling the blanket over you.
“I’m staying, are you?” Sebastian whispers to Henry and looks at him.
Henry looks at Sebastian like Sebastian has just asked the stupidest question in the world, which he did. “Of course, if she wants us gone in the morning then we’ll leave but until then I’m staying,” Henry answered.
Sebastian and Henry nod to each other as they lay on either side of you and wrap an arm around you. They cuddle up to you and each other and talk for a good half hour before finally starting to drift off to sleep. As they were entering the last moment between slumber and awake, they hear you whisper “I love you..” and then all of you go to sleep.
-----------------------------------------------------
When you wake up in the morning, Henry was downstairs making breakfast while Sebastian was still sleeping next to you. Henry finished the breakfast a good half hour later and after you took a bath. He walks up the stairs, tray in hand bringing you breakfast in bed. You sat there looking up at him as you were dressed in his shirt as well as a matching set of underwear, you weren’t really cold but you didn’t want to leave Sebastian out so you put on his blazer. You smiled seeing the tray and sat up more for it. Henry placed it on your lap before going downstairs and grabbing two more plates. At this point Sebastian was already awake and had been taking tiny bites of your food. Sebastian takes his plate when Henry hands it to him and you all start eating together.
After you all finish, they look at you and smile. Henry was the first to speak up.
“Good morning beautiful.”
“Good morning, handsome. Good morning, hottie.” You said to Henry and Sebastian respectfully.
Sebastian smiled at you and Henry, close-mouthed, in response having a mouth full of food.
Henry looks at Sebastian with a smirk “Shall I tell her what we discussed yesterday?” Sebastian just gives him a nod in response, and you have a look of confusion and worry.
Henry chuckles, “Don’t worry, it’s not bad. In fact, I think you might even like what we discussed.”
You look at him, same look of confusion but much less worried. “Okay… well, what’d you discuss?”
“We want to do that again some time.” Sebastian pipes up, finally, taking a break from his food to talk.
You were taking a sip of apple juice as you heard Sebastian say that and spit it out all over Henry’s chest making the two men laugh. Their laughs always made you smile so instead of focusing on being embarrassed you focused on that.
“Well, that’s not what I was expecting.” Henry says, honestly, through laughs.
“S-Sorry, just shocked. Was expecting you to say that you didn’t like it.” You looked down at your food which you stopped eating when Henry asked if Sebastian wanted him to share what they discussed.
Both men’s faces went dead serious, they looked at you with confusion and surprise.
“Not like it? Baby, we fucking loved it.” Henry says and Sebastian nods. One of each of their hands went to your face cupping it. “You are the most beautiful, amazing, and crazy women we have ever met,”
“And we fucking love it.” Sebastian finishes Henry’s sentence to which Henry just nods.
“Did you mean what you said when you were falling back to sleep?” Henry asks looking you in the eyes.
You tilted your head; you clearly didn’t remember what you said. “Don’t remember so I can’t say.”
“You said ‘I love you’” Sebastian reminded and looked you in the eyes
“Yes, I did.” You nod and look back down at your food “But-“
“I love you too.” Henry and Sebastian say at the same time.
“I’m sorry it took so long to realize it but I do, I truly do. You make me feel like no other woman can. I feel loved, adored, and honestly, I love that you’re able to come to movie sets and auditions and stuff when you’re not working on your own.” Sebastian says with a big smile
“And I love that you’re able to watch me at the races and challenges. And come along for rides. Kal loves you too.” Henry admits with his own big smile.
“So the only question that stands is, who do you choose?” Sebastian asks thinking you only want one. The question makes you roar with laughter and they both look at you confused.
“Choose? Oh no, honey, I pick both.” You say with a straight face before you start to laugh again.
Henry and Sebastian look at each other, shrug, then give you one word to end all your wishful pining that you used to do. “Okay.”

You helped Sharon clean up after dinner. Well, you actually did most of the work. She was on her second margarita and you had filled your glass with water. She was regaling you as you washed the dishes with a story about how Hailey down the street had torn her pants in front of her very attractive trainer.
You wondered for a moment if it was inevitable. In this neighbourhood, as dulcet as it was, that one’s eye should wander eventually. Or was it some innate flaw of humanity? You finished drying up as Sharon showed you where it all went. You were reluctant to leave the shiny, marble kitchen.
Steve and Logan barely noticed as you and Sharon entered. Steve stood by the mantle over the artificial fireplace, his hand on the brick as he watched a dusty player slide for third. Logan grumbled at the out and adjusted the leather recliner. Sharon sat on the sofa and you followed her meekly; as if she could protect you.
“How about that selfie?” Steve’s eyes found you as his hand slid along the wooden mantle. He tapped the old metal propped up on its stand. “I promised.”
“Oh, you and your war toys.” Sharon rolled her eyes. “I never took trophies.”
“You never were much for sentiment,” Steve flicked two fingers for you to get up. “Come on.”
He lifted the helmet and the straps hung loosely. You glanced at Sharon and she rolled her eyes. She gulped a mouthful of the melted cocktail and you stood. You crossed to Steve and came up before him shyly. He lowered the heavy helmet onto your head. He fumbled with the straps, his fingers tickling your neck and chin as he did it up.
“Your phone?” He asked.
“Oh, shoot, it’s in my sweater,” You huffed as you reached up to the helmet.. “You know what, I don’t need the picture.”
“Stay here,” He held up a hand to stop you from moving. “Right back.”
He strode quickly into the hall and you waited quietly as Sharon finished her drink. Logan flicked to another game and you picked at your braided belt. Steve returned with your phone. He handed it to you and you swiftly unlocked it and gave it back.
“Smile,” He said.
He stepped back and framed you with the lens. You gave a thin smile and he snapped the photo. He took another and returned the phone to you. You thanked him quietly and loosed the strap under your chin. He removed the helmet and placed it back on the mantle.
“Now you can brag to all your friends,” He chimed and you went to sit on the sofa beside Sharon.
“Steve, I’m her friend,” Sharon snickered. “And I don’t care.”
He laughed but there was something in the glimmer of his eyes that told you it wasn’t genuine. He crossed his arms and paced across the room.
“I’m sure she has lots of friends,” He stopped just behind the corner of the couch where you sat. “I bought some ice cream bars for dessert if anyone’s interested.”
“I can’t,” Sharon replied. “I’m still shedding my baby weight.”
“I’ll have one,” Logan accepted. “And I’ll have hers too.”
“And you,” Steve tapped your shoulder.
“Sure,” You kept your head down. “Thank you.”
🏠
Logan was well past buzzed by the time you got home. You didn’t feel bad that he had to get up early for work the next day. He stumbled into bed on his own as you hung your sweater on the hook on the back of the door. Your hand brushed something hard in the shallow pocket and you stopped.
You’d already plugged in your phone as it sat on the night table. You peered over your shoulder and slowly reached into the pocket. Logan’s breaths got heavier and longer. You scooped out the tubular object and a paper fluttered to the floor. You knelt and turned the lipstick in your hand.
You stood and unfolded the square of paper. The border was framed in red and blue. The letters scratched across the white space was slanted cursive. ‘I hope you think of me as much as I think of you.’
You stared at the lipstick and popped the lid of. The tip was plastic and you felt along the end. You hit the small button there and it buzzed against your hand. You flinched and looked over at the bed. Logan was snoring.
You hit the button again and again. Several times before it stopped. You were mortified. You ripped up the small paper and tossed it away in the bathroom bin. You put the fake lipstick in your makeup box and shoved it back under the sink.
You went back into the bedroom and changed into your loose cotton nightie. You turned off the light and laid down next to your husband. Your phone vibrated beside you and you ignored it. It vibed again and you sighed. You grabbed it, careful not to unplug it and looked at the screen.
‘Lights out, honey,’ The number was unknown but you could guess at the sender. ‘Hope you have fun with your new toy.’
You deleted the text and muted your phone. You placed it face down and rolled onto your stomach. You should’ve drank more; at least then, you would be able to sleep.
🏠
Logan left early. You stayed in bed until he was gone, pretending to sleep as you heard him downstairs. You drank your coffee as you stared at the fridge. The drawing Kayla had made for you weeks ago hung from a flower-shaped magnet. You smiled as your eyes pricked.
How had everything gone to shit so fast?
Your mother said she’d bring Kayla back just before dinner. A day alone was a rare luxury but now it was purgatory. You needed the distraction of your daughter’s insatiable curiosity. You could work and keep your mind on your computer. At this rate, you’d be ahead of schedule. Ahead of schedule and listless, great.
You leaned back in your chair as your eyes turned bleary from staring at the monitor. You touched your temples and the wheels squeaked as you pressed yourself against the worn pleather. You sighed and dropped your arms. Your mind flew back to all the thoughts you were avoiding, not that they ever truly relented.
“Busy?” Steve’s voice frightened you.
You nearly overturned the chair as you spun around and rolled it back until it was touching the desk. You gripped the arms as your lip trembled.
“What the hell? How did you get in here?” You snarled.
He leaned against the doorway, his arms crossed and one foot leaned against the other.
“Looks like you’ve got an empty house.” He commented.
“I… have to go get Kayla soon,” You lied. “You should go.”
He smirked and hooked his thumb in the top of his jeans pocket.
“Hey, I just came over to chat,” He said.
“And you just walk in without knocking?” You asked.
He chuckled and stood straight.
“I texted you.” He raised his eyebrows as he came closer. “You didn’t answer.”
“Yeah, that’s usually a hint.” You stood up. “Go. Now.” You reached behind you for your phone just beside your keyboard. “I will call the police.”
“Why, officer, she asked me to help her out with some stuff around the house? You know, he husband’s never home and she has a broken faucet. I was just being neighbourly,” He feigned innocence as he neared. “Then she just… well, I guess she was lonely and when I reminded her that I had a wife, that she’s married too, she just changed. So angry.”
“You’re insane,” You breathed. “Fine, I’ll call Logan.”
“Do you think he’d leave her to come sate your paranoia? Do you think he’d believe you?”
“Please, I’m begging you, leave me alone. I have a daughter. I can’t--”
“Shhh,” He was before you in an instant, his hands on your arms. He eased you back to your chair and pushed until you sat. “I just want you to answer a few questions, honey.”
“You’re really scaring me,” You leaned into the chair as if you could dissolve into it. “Why are you doing this?”
“Because I like the way your ass looks when you’re bent over my pool table,” He retorted as he stood and his hands went to his hips. “Now, let’s calm down.”
You watched him pace back and forth. He looked at the framed flowers along your wall. A rose from your wedding bouquet hung by the window. You stood and he turned quickly. He was on you before you could reach the door. He wrestled you back to the chair and sat you down. He knelt in front of you, his hands on your thighs as he held you in place.
“No,” He warned as his eyes bore into yours. “So… did you use it?”
Your lips parted. You were breathless. You shook your head and his tongue poked out between his lips. His fingers kneaded your thighs. You still wore the night shirt you’d slept in, they barely concealed the polka-dot panties beneath.
“Did you want to?” He asked.
You frowned and blinked at him.
“Honey, just answer me.” He coaxed.
You looked down at his hands, his fingers rubbing along the hem of your nightie. You bit your lip as he squeezed your legs and you nodded. Your stomach was in knots.
“Use your words,” He urged.
You kept your chin down. “Yes,” You quavered. “Okay?”
“So why didn’t you?”
“Steve, stop,” You grabbed his hands as they crawled higher. “Go home. To Sharon. Your daughter.”
“I would if Sharon would let me,” He sneered and you glanced up at him. “We just got into some spat about her return to work. You know, she’ll find any little thing to bitch at me about. I give her everything and what do I get?”
“She’s still your wife,” You argued. “And I still have a husband.”
He tilted his head and his face darkened. He stood slowly and let out a long breath.
“Where is it?” He asked.
“What?”
“The toy.”
You swallowed and shivered at the tone of his voice.
“The bathroom attached to my room. Under the sink in the make-up bag.” You said quietly. “Upstairs. Second door on the left.”
He smiled again and took careful steps towards the door. He turned back as he gripped the door frame.
“Stay here.” He ordered. “I don’t want to have to stop you, honey. And you don’t want that either.”
His knuckles whitened as the door frame groaned. The trim suddenly fell away in his hand and his eyes rounded.
“Oops,” He said dryly. “Don’t worry, I can fix that.”
He left and you listened to the soft creak of the stairs. You felt as if you couldn’t breathe. You clamped your lips shut and looked around the room. You reached for your phone. Your finger hovered over ‘emergency call’. His words replayed in your head. You didn’t need Kayla coming home to cop cars.
You set your phone down as you heard him coming. He entered with the faux lipstick and twirled it between his fingers. You made to stand and he tutted.
“Stay,” He said. “I told you.”
You sat back and clung to the arms of the chair. He got to his knees again and you shuddered. He touched your knees and you pushed your legs together tightly. The vibe pressed against your skin and he pushed harder.
“Honey,” He cooed. “Don’t make this difficult. I can tell by the way you’re shaking how bad you want it.”
“I don’t--” You gasped as he pulled your legs apart. He was terrifyingly strong.
He rolled the vibe along your inner leg as he shushed you. His eyes followed his hands as they crawled up your thighs. He pressed the toy against the front of your panties and clicked the button. You inhaled sharply and your nails dug into the arms of the chair.
“Please, Steve, I have to--”
“I don’t want to hurt you,” He said as his other hand slipped under your shirt. “I just want to make you feel good.”
He tickled your stomach and cupped your breast. He moved the vibe against your panties and you let out a wispy moan. The friction sent a buzz through you and you closed your eyes in shame. You threw your head back as he clicked the button again and the toy sped up. He flicked and teased your nipple as your heart raced. You felt as if you were floating, waiting for the steep descent.
Your orgasm shook you. The noise which escaped you was strangled and desperate. Your legs closed around Steve’s hand and you arched your back as you topped the peak. You panted as he slowly drew away, dragging his fingers along your panties as your cum soaked through them.
“Take your panties off,” He stood and admired the wet toy. “Now.”
You hesitated but his blue eyes startled you as he turned his attention on you. They were dark, dilated. You rose and shakily rolled the cotton down your legs. You lifted them and Steve snatched them from you.
“Something to tide me over,” He smiled as he tucked them into his pocket. His jeans could barely restrain his erection. He shoved the vibe into your hand.  “And you, too.”

Home Is Where The Heart Is (Sanders Sides)
Based off of WandaVision (this AU is in a world that isn’t quite the mind palace and isn’t quite the real world. There are no spoilers for the actual WandaVision show and I don’t think you need to have watched the show in order to read this)
Past Romantic Logicality
Warnings: Patton is dead, angst, Remus’ dirty jokes
*Sigh* This fic has taken me what feels like ages to write. I wrote most of it all in one go but I just couldn’t manage to write the second half. And so it stayed in my drafts for months. But it’s finally finished!
I hope you don’t mind me tagging you, @jessibbb. I saw your post while I was writing the beginning! I’m pretty shocked we both chose the same ship for this AU.
Anyways, enjoy!
***
Roman didn’t realise anything was wrong until he woke up one morning and the mind palace was empty and quiet. No one was in the kitchen making breakfast and no one was on the sofa.
For the past couple of weeks, Roman had been non-stop working on a screenplay that he had had in his mind for at least two years. He was afraid his motivation would suddenly slump so he had been spending more and more time in his own room, writing away.
Roman quietly began making himself a fried egg, trying to wrack his brain to figure out what happened to everybody. Did they all go on a trip somewhere? Without him? Maybe they didn't want to disturb him when he was in his writing groove.
As Roman sat down at the kitchen table, he only just recalled Virgil telling the rest of the sides that he was going to try to help Logan after what happened to Patton...
Had Roman seen Virgil since then? Roman honestly couldn’t remember. But then Roman remembered scarfing down his supper one day and Janus telling them that he was worried about Logan and Virgil.
As for Roman’s twin brother, Remus wasn’t really one to tell the other sides their plans.
Roman ate the rest of his fried egg in silence, trying to piece together the last few weeks. By the end of it, Roman had a broad idea of what he had missed. Logan had locked himself in his room after what happened with Patton. And Virgil, who had been worried for him, went in a couple days later. Then, Janus, worried for the both of them, went in next.
In both events, Virgil and Janus had gone into Logan’s room and not returned, at least as far as Roman knew.
Roman tried to ignore the feeling that something was wrong and wrote another couple of pages of his screenplay. But the silence of the mind palace nagged at the back of his mind so much that he decided to take a break at 11:30.
He feared that he would spiral into a writer’s block because of this. But he was more worried for his friends who walked into Logan’s room and hadn’t come out. He missed the domesticity of the mind palace. Virgil was always one for night time snacks. And Janus always came to the large bay window in the afternoon when the sun was the strongest.
Roman stood in front of Logan’s door and hesitantly knocked. “Lo?” He asked. “Are the others in there with you? Are you okay?” Roman knocked again on the door to no answer. He contemplated coming back to the door later that night but Roman slowly laid his hand on the doorknob. It twisted open.
Roman slowly pushed the door open. At first glance, the room looked normal, if not a little messy. But Roman could see a breathing lump in the bed that resembled Logan’s sleeping position—sleeping on his back, like a log.
But, at a closer look, the doorway looked to have some kind of shimmery film over it. It reminded Roman of when he would create worlds inside his own room to explore. His door was always there, no matter the world, and that silvery film would be across his doorway. All Roman would have to do is step through that silvery barrier and he’d be back in the mind palace, right in front of his doorway.
Roman frowned and brought his face up close to Logan’s door, his nose almost passing through the barrier. As far as he knew, he was the only side who could create worlds from his imagination. He was creativity, after all.
Roman straightened up. Maybe Logan somehow got the powers to create worlds and he and the others were lost and couldn’t find their way back. It was the only possibility Roman could think of. He closed his eyes and stepped through Logan’s door.
When Roman opened his eyes, he was in a hallway that resembled the one in the mind palace that held each side’s rooms. But, when Roman looked closer he found family pictures on the wall.
Roman was taken aback as he noticed these pictures were all of Logan and Patton in different places—at the park having a picnic, laying on the beach, in the library, at a Build-a-Bear.
None of the places were familiar. They didn't even live near a Build-a-Bear.
Roman slowly inspected each photograph. He halted at the last photo in the hallway. Logan and Patton standing behind two pearly-teethed children.
“That’s little Arthur and Connie.”
Roman spun around and legitimately pinched himself at the sight of Patton in front of him. His smile was uncannily large and he looked real...lifelike. Roman resisted the urge to tackle him into a bearhug.
What had Logan done?
“Uh, I’m Roman,” Roman extended a hand. Surely this was just some kind of fake Patton. Something like a ghost.
But Patton shook Roman’s hand happily. He was as solid as Roman himself. “Nice to meet you, I’m Patton.” Patton didn’t look the least bit confused as to how Roman got inside this weird house.
Roman swallowed. “Um, excuse me,” he managed to say. “I-I have to go. Sorry.” He turned to find the first window he saw, the hallway window. It was tiny but Roman pried it open and wiggled through. He could feel the sweat bead down the back of his neck. “I’m sorry,” he said again and ran as far away as he could.
Roman ran a hand through his hair as he ran through an unfamiliar town. He past familiar faces on the way. Joan going into the grocery store. Tayln on the bench talking to Jamal. Valerie and Terrence buying samosas from the man on the side of the street they always passed when going on their runs. Roman could see people in a nearby cafe and in an office, drinking their coffees and clicking at their computers. Everyone seemed completely unconcerned.
Everyone here must be created by Logan, Roman rationalised. Roman could often create people in his own worlds too, solid ones like the occasional royal for his story, but they required incredible mental strength and they all took a toll on him because he was the one who had to control their every move.
Creating all these people and controlling them all? Roman had been creating worlds since he was a child and he still could only create and control seven people, max.
Creating and controlling an entire city? It was impossible. How had Logan done it then? Roman couldn’t wrap his head around everything.
He passed a gas station and almost did a double take. Virgil was blowing bubble gum behind the counter.
Roman raced inside the gas station and the bell tinkled above.
“What pump?” Virgil asked boredly, not looking up from his phone.
“Virgil! It’s me, Roman!” Roman exclaimed, running up to the desk, out of breath. “Where have you been? What has happened to Logan?”
Virgil blew an especially large bubble before looking up at Roman. “Look, man, I’m just a minimum wage worker. Just choose what you want to buy and I’ll ring you up.”
“No, that’s not—”
“You want to rob the joint?” Virgil opened the cash and turned to look back at his phone. “Go ahead, I don’t care.”
Roman leaned over the desk. “Your phone isn’t even on! Virgil, what is wrong with you? You’ve got to help me! I think Logan is stuck in this world he accidentally made!” Roman placed a hand on Virgil’s forearm.
As if waking up from a bad nightmare, Virgil jolted like he was electrocuted and he blinked rapidly. His breathing became erratic. “You have to help us, Roman.” Virgil’s voice was hoarse and pained. His eyes were wild. “It’s Logan! You have to stop him!”
“What do you mean ‘it’s Logan’?” Roman asked, shaking Virgil a little by the shoulders. “I know he created this world. Have you seen Patton? And they have children?”
Virgil opened his mouth to reply but, as if someone grabbed him by the neck, he gasped for air. Roman stepped back, scared. What was happening? Virgil blinked a couple more times. He rolled his eyes and blew a large pink bubble. “So, what is it that you’d like to buy?”
Roman looked at Virgil incredulously. “What the hell,” he muttered, waving a hand in front of Virgil’s face.
“Dude, if you aren’t going to buy anything, just leave. Go annoy some other random minimum wage worker,” Virgil said dryly, looking back at his phone.
Roman put a hand on Virgil’s shoulders again and the other side jolted again. “Ro! He knows you’re here. You have to go,” he gasped in a strained voice. His face changed and he popped another bubble. “I won’t hesitate to call the cops,” Virgil said, leaning sourly on the counter.
Roman sprinted out of the gas station as fast as he could. He stood in the middle of the empty street and desperately looked for a hiding spot. His eyes saw the large brick building of the library. Probably not the best place to hide; Logan could be in there for all he knew.
Roman ran inside the building next to it, a squat little one room schoolhouse. When he came inside, the wooden desks were completely empty except for the teachers desk which held...
“Janus!” Roman exclaimed, fast-walking down the aisles of tiny desks to the larger desk where Janus was sitting, a grin plastered on his face.
“Hello,” Janus greeted, almost robotically. “Are you here to sign up your child for school?”
Roman reached out to touch Janus’ shoulder, to break whatever hold Logan had on him, but paused inches from the yellow cloth. It seemed that Logan could detect when people were no longer under his control. Example: Virgil.
But Roman needed somebody else’s help. As much as he boasted about being the knight in shining armour and being able to, single-handedly, save damsels in distress, Logan was an actual person who was going through tough emotions—not a figment of Roman’s imagination.
He stood in front of Janus’ still body, staring into his blank stare. Was it worth trying to get Janus on his side? He’d always have to be near the side so Logan wouldn’t try to control him again.
“I didn’t know Mr. Stick Up His Ass had a sense of humour. Putting Janus in the role of a school teacher?” Remus snort-laughed. “I need to hang out with him more after he’s through with his crisis.”
“Remus?” Roman exclaimed, spinning around and seeing his brother leaning against the large bookshelf. “Wha—How?”
Remus spun his moustache around his finger. “Thought this world might be fun. Instead, I get a dead side returned, a brother who’s too stuck in his own world to realise anyone’s missing, and a side who is too love-stricken that he manages to create an entire world.”
“But how are you not under Logan’s control?” Roman said, turning his attention away from Janus and to his twin brother.
Remus frowned and placed a hand to his heard. “I’m offended, Ro, I’m also creativity. Whatever you can do, I can do.”
Roman paused, thinking this through. Remus did have a point. “How long have you been here?”
“A couple of weeks, in this world’s time. We’re as stuck in Logan’s world as a wet booger on a finger.”
“And you haven’t tried to talk to Logan?” Roman asked, exasperatedly.
“Who do you think I am? A therapist or something? I’m just a fun guy who eats fungi.” Remus blew a raspberry.
Roman wiped off Remus’ spit from his own face and began dragging his brother out the door. “Two is better than one. C’mon, we need to help Logan. He’s grieving.”
“Isn’t time the answer to everything?” Remus asked, shaking free of Roman’s grip. “Just leave him be. He’ll eventually figure his stuff out.”
“And how long will that be? A month? A year? No, Remus, we need to help Logan. He’s created a fake Patton, that isn’t healthy.”
“Well I think that Logan is getting through this in his own way,” Remus said. “We shouldn’t try to push him too much. Who knows what he’ll do? He could create a Godzilla for all I know.”
“We need to go speak with Logan,” Roman stated.
“We?” Remus repeated.
“Fine. I’ll speak with Logan. You can just be there for moral support,” Roman said with a sigh. He felt stronger with his brother next to him and maybe he could get through to Logan by himself.
***
Logan’s house was painted a bright blue and had kids toys littered around the yard. The flowers around looked almost fake. Neighbours around the cul-de-sac smiled and waved from their porches.
“Logan looks happy here. What if we just left him in this alternate world?” Remus’ voice was quiet and surprisingly serious as they climbed the couple of stairs to Logan’s doorstep.
Roman turned to Remus, mouth agape. “Are you kidding me? Logan has created an entire town with kids and a husband who is actually dead. You don’t see a problem with Logan living in a lie? Besides, we’re stuck here too. Or have you forgotten?”
Remus leaned against the house and dug his hands into his pockets. “I dunno. But I just think reality will catch up with him soon enough. Anyways, he can’t keep up this charade forever. And living here isn’t too bad. There are no repercussions to anything I do.” Remus grinned toothily and was inches away from knocking on the door.
The door swung open itself. “Hello! Is there anything I can do for you?” Patton asked, looking down at Roman and Remus curiously.
“Is your…erm…husband home?” Roman asked, suddenly uncomfortable. He didn’t like seeing Patton alive again. It made him miss the old side who used any opportunity to make cookies.
“He is! He’s making supper now for us and the kiddos—”
“What do you want, Roman?” Logan’s voice came from behind Patton. His voice seemed strong and concise which was nothing different. But when Patton moved over a little to make space for Logan, Roman noticed a clear tiredness behind his facade.
“I want to speak with you…privately,” Roman replied, glancing over at Logan. Whether or not Patton was fully under Logan’s control, Roman wasn’t sure he wanted to openly talk about Patton’s death in front of Patton.
“I want whatever you’ve made for supper,” Remus interrupted loudly, elbowing his way around Patton and Logan, disappearing down a hallway.
Logan pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed deeply.
“Do you know those guys?” Patton asked quietly, his eyebrows drawn down in confusion. “Are they friends from your time at uni?”
Uproarious laughter came from, presumably, the kitchen. “Patton, can you go check on the kids and make sure Remus isn’t teaching them anything inappropriate?” Logan nodded his head in the direction of the kitchen.
“Oh, yeah. Sure.” He made his way down the hallway, glancing back only once.
As soon as Patton was out of view, Logan grabbed viciously at Roman’s shirt sleeve and began dragging him across the living room. “You’re lucky I can’t control you,” Logan muttered through gritted teeth. They made their way to a closed door which banged open as soon as Logan flicked his wrist.
Logan pushed Roman down onto the bed. He crossed his arms. “You have five minutes to talk to me and then I’m going to kick you and Remus out and will not be allowing you two back in.”
The entire monologue Roman had been planning out in his head on his way here completely evaporated. Whatever he had been planning to say was logical and coherent. But now that he was facing Logan, he couldn’t remember anything. His eyes found a picture to the left of Logan’s furrowed brow.
It was a glossy photo of Patton in Disney World, a Mickey hat on his head, and laughing into the camera. Another event that never actually happened.
But Roman’s eyes were drawn to it. His words came out before he could stop them. “I miss him. He always knew what to say to us to make us feel better.” Roman couldn’t count how many times Patton had helped him get over a break-up or through an especially rough writer's block.
Logan’s strained face softened, following Roman’s gaze to the photograph. He took the frame off the wall and stared at it. When he looked back up at Roman, his face was even stonier than before. “Then you understand why I have to do this.”
“Logan…I…I know what you’re going through. We all do. Patton was our missing puzzle piece. With him gone, it does feel empty. But we can’t change what’s already happened,” Roman tried, gently pulling the photo of Patton out of Logan’s grip.
“You don’t know anything about what I’m feeling,” Logan grimaced and yanked the photo back. “And I’m perfectly content in this alternate universe I’ve created. It was going great before you arrived.”
“Logan, I’m worried for you. Virgil and Janus and I are worried for you. Remus probably is as well. Patton wouldn’t want you to be like this. He’d want you to come back with us.”
“Don’t you dare speak for Patton,” Logan growled, jabbing a finger in Roman’s face. “And if Patton can’t come back, I’m not coming back.”
“Is that the kind of life you want to live forever?” Remus’ voice came from the doorway. Even Roman was surprised to see his brother. Logan whirled around. “To live with a man who has died with children who don’t exist? To be constantly feeding them memories about their fake life and then feeling left out as they talk about them because you can’t give yourself those same happy memories?” Remus’ voice was like a viper and his words were much more intense than what Roman had been planning.
Yet the words actually seemed to get through to Logan. His Adam’s apple bobbed and he quietly placed the framed photo back up on the wall, meticulously straightening it.
Logan’s next words came out soft and broken, staring at Patton’s photo, pointedly avoiding Roman or Remus’ gaze. “I can’t just go back and forget about him.”
“We aren’t asking you to forget about him, Lo,” Roman begged. “We would never ask you to do that. In fact, once we all get back, we should keep his memory alive.”
“Figuratively alive, of course,” Remus interjected, a slight smirk on his face.
Roman silenced Remus with a glare. You aren’t helping. “Do you remember how Patton always knew our hot chocolate orders by heart during movie night?” Roman asked. “Extra marshmallows for me, milk in Virgil’s, piping hot and whipped cream in Janus’—“
“—Mine with some marshmallows and filled to the brim with,” Remus tried and failed to hold in his laughter, “cream.”
“I’d have plain and Patton would have extra everything,” Logan reminisced with a smile.
“Remember when I accidentally spread some kind of sickness with my…prank…and Patton, even though he was also sick, made the time to help all of us?” Remus poked a toy on the floor with the tip of his shoe.
“He always gave the best gifts too,” Logan continued, a nostalgic smile on his face. “I still use my antler pencil when organizing everyone’s calendar.”
“I love the deodorants he gave me!” Remus exclaimed.
“Logan,” Roman began in a gentle voice, meeting the other side’s eyes. “Why don’t we all head home and sit around the couch, telling each other our memories of Patton?” He began to stand up and gently laid a hand on Logan’s forearm. “Come on, let’s go home.”
Logan’s arm flexed under Roman’s grip. Uh oh. “What’s that saying?” Logan said slowly, his voice growing icy. “Home is where the heart is?” He jerked his arm away from Roman and pushed him backward onto the bed. “I can’t go home. There is no home anymore because he has my heart.” Logan’s voice broke and his legs collapsed underneath him. Roman and Remus barely made it to soften his fall.
“Patton is dead,” Logan managed to choke out, hiding his eyes with his hands. Roman squeezed Logan into a hug. Remus began to awkwardly pat his back. “This is the only place where I feel anything worthwhile. Without Patton…I’m…I feel like a robot. Like an empty shell of myself.”
“Logan?” Patton’s voice was small and all three of the sides whipped their heads around to see Patton standing outside of the doorway. His eyes were wide and his hands were shoved in his pockets. “What did you mean when you said that I’m dead?”
“Patton, I—I can explain,” Logan instantly stood up from the floor and wiped his eyes, taking his glasses off to clean them in his shirt. He then took a step towards Patton, an arm outstretched.
But Patton stepped away from Logan’s hand, fear clearly written on his face. “What’s happening? While you were inside here, it’s like the world froze. Even Connie and Arthur. When I ventured outside, I saw two other men running towards our house, telling me that I had to talk some sense into you, Logan, and that I was dead.” Patton paused and Roman saw that his hands were shaking. “I don’t know what’s real anymore. Am I dead?”
“Patton,” Logan started, glancing behind him at Roman and Remus. “I—I’ve not been entirely honest with you. Actually, I’ve been completely lying to you.” Logan gently took Patton’s face into his hands and when Patton re-opened his eyes, Roman had a sense that Patton knew. He knew everything.
“After…after you died, I couldn’t handle it. I stayed in bed for days on end, not doing anything but think of you and cry. I hardly slept. I don’t know how long this went on for until, one day, I woke up, and I walked down this street where you, Connie and Arthur were playing outside. When the three of you saw me, all of your eyes lit up and began exclaiming, ‘dad’s home! Dad’s home!’”
A tear ran down Logan’s cheek and he frantically rubbed it away. “It was like my perfect fantasy. You were alive and well and we had a beautiful family. As time went on, I remembered conversations I had with Roman and began creating an entire city around us, with people, businesses, and schools. I started giving you and the kids memories of trips we didn’t take, things we didn’t do.
“It was exhausting but I was actually happy. I was laughing and, even though it wasn’t real, I was living. You taught me happiness. I feel like I’ll never feel it again” His words hung thick in the air.
“Pat,” Logan said, this time too many tears on his cheeks for him to wipe away. “I don’t want to go back home if it means leaving you. I can’t do it again. I’m not strong enough.”
Patton brought Logan in for a hug and quickly kissed his nose. “You are strong enough. You, Logan, are one of the strongest people I’ve ever known. And you can and will leave. You’re destined for great things out there, Logan Sanders. And I will be forever proud of you. Promise me you’ll try to live life to its fullest, to stop and smell the roses, to be happy once again. Maybe it’ll hurt less as time goes on, maybe it won’t. Maybe you’ll smile when my name is mentioned after a few years, or maybe it’ll still leave your chest aching and your eyes stinging. I can’t promise you it won’t be hard once you leave, but you have to promise me you’ll try to be okay.”
Patton’s lip quirked up. “Besides, think about it, because you conjured me up, I’ll always be a part of you once you leave.” Patton placed a hand over Logan’s heart. “I’ll always be inside of you.”
Remus snickered and Roman elbowed him in the gut.
“I promise,” Logan said, either not hearing Remus or deciding to ignore him. “I’ll try for your sake.”
Patton smiled and hugged Logan one last time. “Come, the kids are all ready for bed. How about one last goodnight?”
Logan seemed to want to reject the idea but bit his tongue. He nodded curtly and glanced at Patton, “one last bedtime story?”
Patton smiled and nodded as well. The two of them began to walk down the hall, their arms around each other’s waists.
Once Roman could hear voices in a nearby room, he began to sit up from the bed that he had slowly made his way to once Patton appeared. “I can’t believe you,” he muttered to Remus. “You have to turn everything into a dirty joke, don’t you?”
“I’m not sure what you mean,” Remus said, fluttering his eyelashes. “Besides,” he said, shaking his head, “everything turned out alright, didn’t it?”
Roman sighed as they made their way outside to give Patton and Logan some privacy. “I suppose it did. And…you did good back there, Remus.” Roman awkwardly rubbed his neck. “Thank you.”
Remus’ eyebrows shot up in surprise but, before he could say anything, Virgil and Janus came barrelling towards them.
“Roman!” Virgil exclaimed, “you did it!”
Roman shrugged his shoulders and glanced at his twin brother. “Honestly? It was a team effort. Remus was the one to get through to him at first.”
“Really?” Virgil asked while Janus just smiled a little over at Remus.
Roman nodded and then asked, “are you two alright?” He couldn’t imagine what being under Logan’s “spell” was like. He didn’t think he’d ever ask. He was glad everyone else in the town was completely imaginary or copies of other people in the real world.
“A little drowsy, to be completely honest with you,” Janus replied with a half-smile.
“That was not my experience,” Virgil grumbled, arms crossed. “It was like I was in a constant battle. ‘Walk,’ Logan’s voice would tell me. ‘No,’ I would tell him back. Back and forth and back and forth.”
The four sides went silent as the door to Logan and Patton’s house opened. Patton and Logan exchanged one last word with one another before they kissed and Patton closed the door shut. Logan jogged down to where Roman and the others stood.
“It’s time to go home,” Logan said, trying to sound brave but his wobbly voice gave him away.
Logan made a flourish with his hands and an opened door appeared in front of all of them. “I think this might be the first and last time I create a world,” he said. “My hypothesis is that I was going through such a great deal of grief that I touched into a power that all of us have but only Roman and Remus have access to it easily and on a larger scale.”
Roman smiled and placed a comforting hand on Logan’s shoulder. “Let’s all sit on the couch together. We can watch a movie and talk about our memories with Patton.”
“I think I have a bunch of photos in a box under my bed and pinned around my room,” Virgil added in. “You could make a scrapbook.”
Logan took in a deep, steadying, breath. He turned around to look at the blue house behind him before saying, “I’d like that. And, um, if you guys want, I can prepare everyone some hot chocolate.”
And, with that, Logan stepped through the door.

When esteemed researcher Logan Crofter needs the help of a musician, famous saxophone player Roman Sanders gets ready for the most unusual project of his career.
-
Logan looked over the application again. Roman Sanders, respected saxophone player, winner of the Australian Jazz Bell Awards 2015 and 2018, with record sales in fifty countries. He outshone every other applicant, but that was what was worrying. Logan knew that his budget could not stretch to the kind of money Sanders would make at his average performance. Still, the musician had known their budget when he applied.
Trying not to overthink it too much, he dialed the number.
After a few moments, it picked up. "Hello? This is Roman Sanders speaking," said a clear, deep voice from the other end and he froze. He had not- expected him to sound like that. Whatever he had expected his voice to hold, it was not a timbre which seemed to be set to the resonant frequency of Logan's heart.
"Hello? Can I help you?"
"Yes-yes-" he snapped back into focus and cleared his throat. "Yes, this is, uh, Logan Crofter, I am accepting your application. You have reviewed the details?"
"I have! It all seems to be very organised," Roman replied. Logan felt his cheeks flood with heat.
"It is very organised," he said stiffly. "It's not your usual caliber of work, I know, but it is very serious. Very important. To me and others."
Roman laughed, not like he was mocking Logan, but in a genuine expression of excitement. "I know! It's important to me too! I always want to do something different, stretch my creativity, so this stood out to me. I think the idea is amazing. How did you come up with it?"
"Oh, you know, research- but more than a little hope. I had to also be creative, in my own way." Desperate times led to desperate measures, which for Logan were increasingly far from the approval of established methodology.
"Wonderful!"
He was suddenly afraid that Roman could hear his heart racing over the other end of the phone line. "Indeed. Indeed. So, I will email you the relevant audio files, then I can set up the studio for you for the 15th."
"Of course- I'll try and immerse myself! Truly get the feel! Any documentaries or anything you can recommend?"
"Oh, I-" Logan adjusted his perfectly straight glasses. "I'll send you a link to some," he said in a high-pitched voice. "And I can- set up the studio for you."
"Thank you, I appreciate it, Logan."
At the sound of his name in Roman's voice, he completely short-circuited. "Yesthankyougoodbye-" He hung up.
For a long moment, he stared at the blank screen of his phone almost breathless. I appreciate it, Logan.
He stood up, irritated, and wondered what in the name of Darwin had come over him. Attraction, he supposed. The musician's voice was simply...attractive.
Would it be egotistical to send Roman a documentary he himself had been interviewed in? It was most informative due to his consultation, but...perhaps it would not look best. Then again, research would probably cause him to stumble upon Logan's name-
He shook his head. He did not have time to deal with this. There were more important things at stake, and Roman Sanders could wait until the 15th.
*
Writing a love song would be stressful enough with a conspicuous and oft-mourned lack of a lover in his life, but as Roman trawled through the articles and videos Logan sent him, what had started as an exercise in eccentricity began to take on larger importance.
As the two emailed back and forth, the nervous, uptight voice Roman had spoken on the phone to morphed into a complete nerd delivering informative ramblings, or, in one YouTube video he'd stumbled upon, a slightly younger version of Logan almost lit up by a kind of tender curiosity.
Therefore, Roman wanted his song to be perfect, and between days practicing and nights researching, he managed to finish the piece only the day before the 15th.
*
As soon as he caught a glimpse of Roman's cloud of hair in the distance, Logan took a deep breath, and pulled on his best cool and professional approach. "Roman! I’m glad you were punctual."
Roman grinned at him. "I thought you'd appreciate that."
And, despite himself, he grinned back. He coughed, and then opened the door so Roman could carry his saxophone case through. "We rented out the space for hours, to give you as much time as you need."
"Thank you," the musician stepped through into the cool air-conditioned reception and wondered why Logan was flushed. "I hope you weren't waiting outside long? I am usually on time! I neither lag nor rush," he joked.
After a moment, the corners of his mouth twitched up. "Ah. Jazz joke. And no, please do not worry. I was not outside long."
As he led Roman down the corridor, he was trying not to look like he was watching him- though he also wanted to be polite- so he walked just ahead, turning his head every now and then. "Everything is prepared for you. We will overlay the drums afterwards, that idea is...really quite impressive."
"Well, the video you sent me gave me the idea! But yes," he admitted, with a bow more flamboyant than polite, "I do think the way I've worked it is quite unique."
They stopped outside the door. "Well-" Logan began, and Roman looked at him with interest. As they made eye contact somehow all the words he wanted to say fell down to bounce around his stomach.
Roman frowned in concern. "Are you alright?" Maybe the researcher got anxious, like Virgil did. "Would you rather I didn't make eye contact?"
"Oh," He adjusted his tie and looked down. "Thank you. No, I am alright with it. It is a threat display in many animals, but not necessarily humans-" He tapped the door-handle. He dimly knew he should cut off now but his clarification was already falling out his mouth. "It is especially seen as a threat among primates, and among those that is most pronounced with chimpanzees- which is why you must never look a chimpanzee in the eye and why zoos should in my opinion warn about body language of primates better, because visitors can upset them. But, then, many animals do become desensitised.” He shook his head. “But really, anthromorphising animals at all is a fool's route." His eyes darted up to meet Roman's once more.
Oh no. He was very, very cute. Roman would never have thought being informed about primate threat displays would be very interesting, but it was incredibly endearing. "You never think animals have their own thoughts and feelings?" he gently prompted.
"No, I know they do," Logan said sincerely. "But they are not the same as human thoughts and feelings."
"This isn't a little like that?" Roman teased.
Logan drew himself up. "No, this is research based."
"Have you set up the studio for me?" Roman asked with a twinkle of humor in his eye.
"I have. For you, a human-" But Roman just caught on you.
Logan unlocked the door, to reveal that the inside of the studio had been decorated with potted plants, the floor scattered with rose petals, a few candles lit, and a framed photo sat on a side-table.
"This is for your inspiration," Logan said with a slight smile. "You may serenade the photo."
Roman burst into a peal of laughter as he put down his case, then blew a kiss to the photograph.
It was a picture of a bird. It had mossy green feathers around its face, then brown ones around beady black eyes and a little beak with nostrils in it.
"I have played love songs for many people in my lifetime," Roman announced to Logan. "But never for, or on behalf of, a parrot."
The kakapo parrot is remarkable for many reasons- it is the only flightless parrot, as well as the heaviest one, and it is historically significant to the Maori. It ought to find mates with males booming to win the attention of females in arenas, but with critically diminishing numbers, competitions to attract mates are not replenishing or increasing the population. And therefore, conservationists must become creative.
"It is not a method which has been proven," Logan clarified, once again. "But any assistance in creating optimal conditions for the kakapo to meet mates is gravely needed."
Roman winked at him. "Don't worry, you already know that I can help set the mood."
"I don't know what you are-"
He undid the clips of his case, then picked up some of the rose petals. "And so, it seems, do you."
"It is of great importance this goes as well as it can do," Logan replied primly.
"Of course, of course, we need the rose petals," he said, with wide, sincere eyes. "For the atmosphere! Here we are, in the arena of love..."
"Actually," Logan couldn't help but add, "the arenas are very large. Each "court" is on average 50m apart, so I would have to be down the street from you."
Roman pouted. "But the benefit of this is you hearing me up close, not at the distance of a music arena. You have front-row tickets to one of the biggest names in Australian jazz." That was, perhaps, arrogant, but Logan appreciated him saying it like the fact it was. He said it like it was a gift to Logan that the musician wanted him to appreciate, not something he didn't deserve.
"Well," Logan conceded, "I suppose that the bird being serenaded is closer to the court."
"I am a proud parrot in my court then!" he said.
Logan nodded. "That is accurate. Judging by your voice, I am hoping your saxophone playing will also be attractive."
Roman paused. "By my voice?"
"It is objectively attractive," Logan said, completely objectively. "Therefore, I hope that your playing shall attract the kakapo parrots. To each other."
"Oh." Roman's eyes widened, then a soft smile spread on his face. "Thank you."
He bobbed his head into a nod, then gestured to the recording booth. "I have been instructed in how to use this, so I am going to go and set it up. You can start when you are ready."
"Just give me a moment to warm up."
"Of course."
As Logan fiddled with the controls to set up the recording for a new song, Roman warmed up, playing through a few scales. He didn't use anything to check his exact pitch, but it sounded right to Logan as he adjusted.
Then he paused, and nodded to Logan through the glass. "I'm ready."
Roman started with a few low, humming notes, similar to the booming of the kakapo, and Logan looked up from the controls, his heart in his chest all of a sudden. He could remember those long nights in a hide close to the arena, hearing the courtships- it was a sound which by rights should be common all throughout New Zealand. Then, the musician overlayed a few long notes, swaying and closing his eyes as he leaned into the music.
It was upbeat, with big dramatic swells every now and again, and Logan, whose mind was always leaping from thought to thought, from analysis to evaluation, was transfixed into stillness.
The smooth sounds, Roman's swaying, the way the dim light of the studio glinted off the saxophone and that earnest expression on the player's face…
All too soon, it came to an end with a final little trill.
*
To ward off stage fright, Roman had closed his eyes against the cute researcher and instead lost himself to his music. As he opened them again, he was met with a beaming smile and round of applause. A residue of nerves mixed with pride to thrill through him. "What did you think?"
Logan beamed. "I think it was perfect."
Roman's face heated, and his eyes crinkled as he returned a genuine smile. "Thank you! So- I'll have some water, have another take or two, and then we can see about overlaying drums and chirping?"
Logan nodded. "I think that is a good plan."
The two of them worked well together- in all honesty, Logan didn't have to input much since Roman was the expert on composition, but he was happy to cede control on a project if he was confident in the abilities of his partner. He was happy to listen to each deliberation, and provide questions if not answers.
They were finished and ready to vacate the studio half-an-hour before they needed to, since Roman helped Logan carry his props back to the van. "No- they just pair for the mating season."
"For now!" Roman declared. "My funky music will create love for a lifetime! That's a joke," he clarified.
Logan laughed. "Well, at least they have great genetic variation."
It was late afternoon creeping into evening outside the studio, and the warm air had begun to mellow and cool. "Are you staying in Auckland long?" Logan inquired.
"Only a few nights. I want to catch a show, but I don't have anything to do tonight. How about you?"
"I should be back at the sanctuary tomorrow. I would recommend the square a few streets from here if you're looking for a good restaurant. I can give you directions?"
"Oh, I don't know," Roman adjusted his saxophone case with a faux innocent expression. "I have to have this back at the hotel for safekeeping, and then it might be harder to find my way there..."
Logan furrowed his brow. "I can give you an address if you wish to use Google Maps?"
He couldn't quite work out if this was a genuine suggestion, or a gentle refusal. His hotel was close, and Logan's van on the curb. It was now or never- "You could take me," he said, with a confidence he didn't feel. "Tell me more about, uh, parrots."
Logan's heart thudded in his chest. "As a social event? Not to do with the project?"
"Social, yes."
"I'd like that." He adjusted his glasses. "I would like that very much, Roman."
They walked back to Roman's hotel, so that he could protect his saxophone, then wandered out along a quiet avenue on the way to the restaurant. The sky had dimmed to soft grey and purple, clouds scudding aimlessly across it. Side by side, they talked and laughed, glances catching on lips, on hands, on each other.
As a tentative test, Logan moved closer, so that their hands brushed together as they walked. When Roman faltered in the middle of his story about a concert, he offered his hand for him to hold.
Roman took it, raised it to his lips, and turned Logan red. Then, Logan mirrored, pulling Roman closer by their joined hands and pressing a kiss to his knuckles. For a long, still moment, they met eyes and forgot how to speak.
"I liked your playing, today," Logan said softly.
His lips parted for just a second before he could manage to say, "And I liked talking with you. Even over the emails...it has been a pleasure-" He cut himself off with a nervous laugh. "A pleasure I can't quite describe."
"We don't always need words for things." Although his hand was shaking, and his heart loud in his chest, Logan's voice was steady. "Music, body language, mutual company...there are many ways to communicate."
"Oh?" Roman murmured.
He nodded, and stroked his thumb over the back of Roman's hand. "I think so."
"Then, may I..." Slowly, he brought their joined hands over Logan's heart, and he moved his other one to cup his face.
Logan's eyes darted up to meet his, all shining with wonder. A breeze shivered through the trees, and although the evening was still balmy, he drew closer together, wrapping his arm around Roman's waist.
They stood in a tenderness of quick breaths and racing hearts, until Logan breathed, "Yes."
Roman dipped his head, and Logan tilted his up, their noses bumping into each other so the kiss was met with the beginnings of laughter. It was gentle, and curious, and as much about their clasped hands and chests pressed together and weak knees as it was the kiss itself.
They drew back for a beat. "How was that?" Roman asked, although his face was hot and Logan was starry-eyes, and he felt like he could faint.
"It was perfect," he said, thrilling again at Roman's voice so close to his face. "Just perfect. But, with these things I suppose..."
Roman stopped breathing.
A mischievous smile crept onto his flushed face. "I suppose we would be remiss for not, ah, testing further."
He burst into laughter. "Of course! Of course! Practice is the key to anything..." And they kissed again, more secure and passionate than before.
This is all based on a true story! Here is an article And here is the song!

Leap in the Dark
(This is another crosspost from my Ao3 account! You can find it here! It’s partly based on personal experience, because concerts are stupid and dysphoria is even stupider and I want to project onto my babies for some second-hand comfort and satisfaction. Like a normal well-adjusted human would.I don't think I'll return to this exact AU, but if you'd like to explore this storyline or some of these ideas, be my guest! Title comes from In the Dark by Anna Blue and Damien Dawn.)
Summary: Virgil isn't the mood to make friends. He's trying not to panic and/or cry over the band concert.
Then a classmate asks him to introduce the band. Which involves speaking. Onstage. In front of literally everyone. Yeah, nobody's getting him in front of that microphone.
But if he doesn’t, Logan has to. And Logan’s also not eager to be seen.
Pairings: platonic Analogical, could be interpreted as romantic. Implied past Anxeit (in like one line, though.)
Warnings: dysphoria, anxiety, self-deprecation, a borderline panic attack, very minor self-harm, and one mention of making out.
Word count: 2678
Virgil Acevedo regretted every single decision he had ever made. He’d tried to do his best at life, and since he was still alive after fourteen-plus years of existence, he had thought he’d done okay. Now he realized every choice that brought him here was a wrong one. He had created his own personal hell through a combination of hubris, naivete, and choosing Band back in sixth grade.
Now he sat in the front of the audience, surrounded by the entire flute section, who were extremely chatty girls. He felt a phone flash behind him and winced. Even though he knew it was another selfie, Virgil hated photos.
He hated a lot of things. Anything that put the spotlight on him. Virgil Acevedo liked to lurk in the background. Performing was not his idea of fun.
Yet here he was.
Clenching a silvery flute, his knees knocking together and his fingers shaking, watching the terrible orchestra play their terrible pieces and dreading the moment those flooding stage lights would illuminate him.
Yeah, logically, he knew nobody would look at him. He wasn’t exactly the most popular kid in the school. And his mom had a late shift and couldn’t make it, thank god. But what if? What if someone just happened to glance in his direction? And they would see a skinny, sweaty boy with floppy black hair he’d tried to comb—still slightly purple from that dye the bottle said would have washed out by now. Playing a flute in a section full of girls, two seats from last chair, barely fumbling through the pieces. Wearing a too-small shirt and a pair of old black sneakers.
Virgil shuddered at the thought.
The orchestra finally screeched their way to a halt. Now someone was introducing the chorus. Roman Prince from Spanish class. He had way too much enthusiasm for the time at hand. He even cracked a terrible pun, which Virgil knew wasn’t in the script, because Roman looked away from the small paper in his hand before telling it. Only one person in the choir laughed. Patton from Biology. Everyone else glared at Patton, who looked unperturbed.
Virgil shifted slightly as the choir broke into song. They sounded truly hideous. Not that his flute-playing was anything stellar, either. But at least he could hide behind the rest of the band. Nobody heard the flutes.
Only a few more songs and Virgil would be up there. Did he remember the fingering for the first piece? What about the second? Did he still have his music? What if it all fell out of his folder? What if he bumped into the girl next to him and she hated him forever and—
Virgil closed his eyes and took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. He was spiraling again. It would be fine. It would be fine! Just three songs, barely ten minutes long, and it would be over. He’d never have to do this again.
Virgil looked down and realized his hand was clenched into a fist, nails digging into his palm. He slowly uncurled it. Four red crescents marked where the nails had struck the skin. Virgil winced at the sting and rubbed at the marks, feeling his palms get sweatier as the chorus neared their close. Great—sweaty hands. Exactly what he needed to play the flute.
Someone tapped Virgil on the shoulder, and he almost screamed. Thankfully, he muffled his shout before it left his mouth. Turning around, he squinted towards the back of the auditorium to see who had tapped him.
It was a boy Virgil recognized from History class. He had dark hair and a sharp face, accentuated even more by his black-framed glasses and the honest-to-goodness tie he was wearing around his neck. Clearly a nerd of the highest proportions. What was his name again? Logan—Logan.
And now Logan was looking at him expectantly, oh god had Virgil forgotten something was he supposed to say something Logan probably thought he was so weird—he needed to be nice and smart and say something that would make Logan forgive him.
“What?” Virgil hissed.
Well. So much for that.
Logan blinked at the harshness in Virgil’s tone, but he didn’t immediately turn away. “Sorry to bother you, but do you have any interest in introducing the band?”
It was Virgil’s turn to blink. “What?” he repeated.
“Well, I was chosen, but would you like to say this speech instead of me?” Logan held out a small white paper. “It is quite short. You just stand up before our song and greet the audience.”
Virgil looked from the paper to Logan’s face. Logan looked serious and sincere, which ruled out the possibility of a prank.
“You…want me to…talk to them?”
Logan pressed his lips together. “Of course, if the idea is uncomfortable to you, you are under no obligation to fulfill my request. It is simply a suggestion.”
The boy talked like a dictionary! Virgil’s mouth twitched in both humor and gratitude. Logan may have been overly formal, but he was also being pretty nice.
Which meant he wanted something. Of course he did. He wouldn’t just ask Virgil about this unprompted. Virgil didn’t exactly have a reputation for being approachable, with his perpetual scowl, large headphones, and baggy purple sweatshirt.
“Why me?” Virgil blurted out before he could stop himself.
“I beg your pardon?”
It was too late to back out now. “Why are you asking me?” Virgil said. “I mean, people don’t usually talk to me, and you seem smart so you should know not to talk to me, and I’m still confused why you want me to do the script especially since I’m…not good at that,” he finished lamely.
Logan tilted his head. “I asked you because you are nearby, and because I know you to some extent. We are in History together. You ask good questions in History.”
Virgil smirked. “You know all the answers, though.”
“Hardly.” The barest flash of a smile lit up Logan’s face. “I just have a tendency to share them more than other people might deem wise.”
Virgil snorted, twisting around in his chair so he could talk more. He certainly needed a distraction at the moment, and Logan’s blunt way of speech was refreshing. No double meanings or tricks, no hidden feelings or blatant falsehoods like with…like with other people. Other non-specific people who definitely weren’t Virgil’s ex, definitely not, no.
“So…I just go up there and read off the script?” Virgil asked. Just the thought made his stomach twist in knots. “Sounds boring.”
“Please?” Logan fidgeted with his glasses. “I can repay you later.”
“How so?” Virgil raised an eyebrow and smirked. “Better choose wisely, Logan.”
“Hmm.” Logan stared into the distance, tapping his chin. “There are several options here. I could give you money, food, or some other tangible object that might please you. I could give you an intangible, such as friendship, though I have no idea whether you lack in those areas. I could also promise you a favor. Perhaps tutoring, or giving you answers for tests? I am quite capable of such things. I have done them in the past for friends and people who have blackmailed me.”
Virgil widened his eyes. “Blackmailed? What?”
“Or,” Logan narrowed his eyes thoughtfully, “I could repay you in…other ways.”
Virgil stared for a second before bursting out laughing. “Oh my god, are you implying—like, we’ll make out if I give that speech? Dude!”
Logan chuckled too, his face flushing. “I have heard it is a useful bargaining chip when dealing with teenage males.”
“Dealing with teenage males,” Virgil repeated, still chuckling. “You sound like Jane Goodall. Maybe Im not gay, did you think of that?”
Logan shrugged. “Are you gay?”
Oh no oh no what do I tell him what do I say he started this conversation so he’ll probably be okay with it but what if—no, Virgil, just play it cool.
“So what if I am?”
No, that was not cool. That was borderline aggressive. Way to go, Virgil, you came off as super defensive.
“There would be no problem if so,” Logan clarified. “I am also homosexual.”
“Intellectual and homosexual?”
“Exactly.”
Virgil smiled and let out a breath. “Yeah. I mean—me too. I’m…gay. Maybe not the intellectual part.”
“You do well in History,” Logan said with a smile. “I’m sure your intellectual capacities are above average.”
“Is that your way of saying I have big brain?”
“Actually, the size of one’s brain does not correlate to intellectual faculties—”
“I know, I know.” Virgil waved a hand, still smiling. “Back to the topic at hand. Would you actually tutor me?”
Logan nodded. “Of course. I enjoy helping others. What subjects do you have trouble with, may I ask?”
Virgil stared at his hands. “Math.”
“A common answer. You’re not alone.” Logan paused. “So if I give you my tutoring skills, in return you will give this speech?”
Virgil bit his lip. “I dunno, Logan…tutoring would be nice and all, but I’m not exactly a big fan of public speaking.”
“Well, no worries, I can ask another student.” Logan looked around. “Does anyone wish to say my speech instead of me?”
Nobody looked in his direction.
“Disappointing.” Logan adjusted his tie. “I guess I’ll just have to say it myself, then.”
The dejection and anxiety in his voice caught Virgil off guard.
“Are you…” Virgil began. “I mean…do you…why don’t you want to say it?”
“I don’t want to,” Logan said briskly. “I’m not a fan of public speaking.”
“What part?” Virgil asked too loudly. He began to fidget with his sleeves, avoiding Logan’s gaze as he tried to explain. “Like, for me, I’m scared of everyone watching me and that I’ll mess up or start crying or something. If it’s something specific, maybe I can…help? I have some…experience with getting nervous about things.”
Logan’s expression was unreadable. Finally, he spoke.
“Thank you, Virgil.” His voice was soft and quiet, different than the confident tone of a few minutes ago. “I appreciate that.”
“Do you want to talk about it?” Virgil asked.
Logan blew out a huff of air. “It’s not the public speaking that scares me,” he confessed. “I’m usually okay with attention, although I don’t seek it out like some of my more…exuberant friends. But today, I guess, well—” Logan ran his fingers through his hair and looked away. “Never mind. It’s illogical.”
Virgil reached forward tentatively and placed his hand on Logan’s shoulder. “I bet it’s not. However you’re feeling, whatever’s bothering you, I know it’s valid. You don’t…have to tell me, ‘cause I’m just a weirdo who sits near you, but—”
“I’m not wearing a binder!”
Logan’s face was screwed tightly and his eyes were shut, as if bracing for a storm.
“I’m not wearing a binder,” Logan repeated, more quietly. “So I can have more breath to play clarinet. I volunteered before I remembered. I don’t want to—I don’t want to go out there looking like—”
Oh. Oh.
Logan’s eyes were still closed. He rubbed his face.
“Never mind. I’m sorry to bother you, I will just figuratively ‘man up’ and perform the speech myself—”
Logan looked dejected. He looked ashamed and desolate and waiting for Virgil to turn around and run away or call him names or just treat him differently. Like he was used to it.
He reminded Virgil of himself.
Before he could stop himself, Virgil reached forward and snatched the paper.
“You don’t have to. I’ll do it.”
“Really?” Logan’s eyes opened, and for a second, Virgil saw the pure relief on his face. Then his eyes darkened with worry. “Are you sure? I don’t want to put you in a tough position.”
“You’re not,” Virgil assured him. “I promise. Just—you’d better be a good tutor, Lo.”
“I’m the best.” Logan crossed his chest. “Nerd’s honor.”
“Then we’re all cool here.” Virgil glanced down at the script. “The song’s almost over, what do I do?”
“Just stand onstage, take the microphone off the stand.” Logan spoke slowly and clearly, as if he could see Virgil’s increasing heart rate. “Click the button on the bottom, hold it and say your part. Turn the microphone off, put it back, and go to your seat. If you need help, ask the conductor.”
“Okay. Okay. Okay.” Virgil nodded to himself. “I can do that. I can.”
“Are you sure? Are you good to do this?”
“I think so.” Virgil closed his eyes and took a deep breath. “It’s a short speech. I think I’ll be okay.”
Logan leaned forward intently. “Please, Virgil. If this is upsetting you, please tell me. I do not want to force you into this because I can’t face my own fears—"
“No!” Virgil interrupted. “It’s completely cool to not do things you’re uncomfortable with. You’re not a coward. You’re being reasonable. And, I mean, it’s not exactly what I’d have chosen, you know? But it’s for a friend. I know we just met!” he added hastily. “I hope it’s not weird, and I mean, I don’t really know you, but you’re the nicest anyone’s ever been in a while, so…it makes me happy to help you. That’s what…friends do. If we’re friends. Because…I’d like to be friends. With you.”
Logan’s mouth opened slightly. He looked speechless.
“I’d love to be your friend, Virgil,” Logan finally said. “Thank you.”
Virgil found himself smiling, and Logan smiled back. He reached into a pocket and pulled out a pen, taking Virgil’s music folder and scribbled down a sequence of numbers.
“My number,” Logan explained. “For the tutoring, and for…anything else.”
Virgil nodded. “I’ll text you when this is over. Promise.”
“Thanks.”
The choir hit a truly terrible pitch and finally silenced, enjoying the dull applause from the parents around them. The band around Virgil stood up, and he walked onstage with the rest. His hands were sweating again, and shaking, and he felt his fingers slip from his folder and flute. He tightened his grip and walked faster, placing his things on his chair before making his way to the front of the stage.
The auditorium was almost full. Virgil scanned the crowd briefly. Faces stared back at him. In the front few rows were the orchestra and choir students, sitting down to watch the band. Roman whispered something to Patton and both of them giggled.
Behind Virgil, he heard the rustling and clinking of the band getting ready. Soon the sounds faded away. The conductor caught Virgil’s eye and nodded, gesturing for him to start speaking.
It took a second for Virgil to turn on the microphone. He clasped it in one hand. How close should he put it to his mouth? He didn’t want a feedback squeal or to be too loud. But if no one heard him, that would be a problem, too. He was running out of time! Everyone was staring, behind and in front of him—he felt trapped on this stage with the too-hot lights and a small crinkly script he’d barely glanced at. He glanced at it now, feeling his heart pound. His mouth was dry. Maybe he’d try to speak and nothing would come out, or he’d just lean forward and puke. He’d never live this down.
There was a loud thud behind him. Virgil turned automatically and saw Logan had hit his stand with his clarinet. Virgil stared at him in confusion. Logan smiled back.
“You can do this,” he mouthed.
Virgil felt a bit of his nervousness ebb away. Logan had put the spotlight on himself just to encourage Virgil. He could see Virgil was panicking and he helped.
Virgil turned around, holding out the script, reading the words over and over. It was only five sentences. Five sentences.
Five chances to mess up.
Five sentences. For a friend.
You can do this.
Virgil closed his eyes. Took a deep breath.
And spoke.

Flame - Part One
A/N: Here’s a photo of who I picture our main girlie to be :)
Tumblr media
“Logan, come on – you're going to get us in trouble!” Your best friend Bridget hissed at you, her hands on her hips as you climbed over the fence. You were straddling the top playfully, glancing down on the other side at a very drunk frat boy.
“Oh, relax.” You shrugged down at Bridget, quickly easing yourself down the tall wood planks. “The cops are at the front of the house, just be quiet and... RUN!”
Bridget let out a giggle as you gripped her hand and took off down the sidewalk that led down the middle of campus. The frat party the two of you had been at had inevitably been busted; like it was nearly every weekend. You had already gotten one citation in your short month on campus and your parents would ring your neck if you got another already.
As the two of you sprinted towards your dorm, you let out a huff hearing a pair of footsteps behind you – really not wanting to turn around to see who was behind you. Bridget did the job for you though, her bright red hair whipping around to see who could possibly be following the two of you. The small smirk on her lips let you know it was nothing to worry about, but the sound of police sirens said otherwise. You let out a small shriek and pushed even harder, sliding into the front door of your dorm at the last minute – the police car turning its lights off and turning the corner.
“Close call.” An unfamiliar voice spoke up next to you, clearly just as out of breath as the rest of you. You lifted your head up to see a brunette boy with a killer jawline leaned over, his hands on his knees, breathing heavily.
“No kidding.” Bridget laughed, sinking down onto the floor and resting her head on her knees. “You’re gonna kill me, Logan.” She shook her head in amusement as you rolled your eyes and leaned your head back against the brick wall.
“You guys live here?” The other boy following you broke his silence, he was much taller than the first – lanky and skinny with dark black hair.
“Yeah - you?” You raised an eyebrow at the two of them – they didn’t seem like they’d be friends.
“Yup.” He nodded back at you, motioning to the guy still crouched down next to him. “That’s Ethan and I’m Kyle.”
“Logan - that’s Bridget.” You nudged your friend on the ground as she giggled shyly. “Are you guys even in that fraternity?”
“I am – he's not.” Ethan spoke up, pushing himself up off the ground to stand next to his friend. “Just joined actually... are you both freshmen?”
“Yea.” Bridget nodded, still sitting on the ground with no intention to move. Her cheeks were bright red and you knew it wasn’t from the running – you had known her for nearly 10 years now and it seemed like every time she even spoke to a guy this happened to her.
“Well - I think we’re gonna head up to our room... nice to meet you guys.” You smiled at the pair and nudged Bridget again, taking off down the hallway to the staircase.
- “What’d you think of Kyle?” Bridget muttered, her voice the only sound in the pitch black room as the two of you tried to sleep.
“Skinny boy?” You questioned her, a small chuckle following. “Seems nice enough; why?”
“He was cute.” She said firmly, knowing you’d pick on her.
“That’s your type now, huh?” You raised an eyebrow even though you knew she couldn’t see it.
“Shut up.” She huffed, turning over in her twin sized bed dramatically. “He was cute.”
The next Monday morning of classes was nearly unbearable. It was a rainy day, there was a chill in the air, and all of a sudden you regretted not going to school somewhere warmer. Your black rainboots sloshed around in the puddles as you shuffled to your humanities class; it took everything you had to not turn around and go crawl back in bed. Especially because Bridget didn’t even have class until noon; it wasn’t even 9AM and you felt like someone had placed you in your personal hell.
 “Logan?”
You turned your head around to see the pair of boys – Ethan and Kyle – standing at the entrance to your class.
“You’re in this class?” You raised an eyebrow at both of them.
“Yea...” Kyle quipped, confusion in his voice. Isn’t it funny how you can have a class for a month and honestly have no clue who is in it. Truthfully, you had skipped quite a few times and made a habit of sitting in the back of the lecture hall, so it wasn’t completely far-fetched that neither of you had noticed each other.
“Cool.” You shrugged, slipping past them to go sit in your normal seat at the back of the class. As you heard footsteps behind you, you turned around to see the two boys following you. “Oh, so now you’re gonna steal someone else’s assigned seats?”
“Shut up.” Ethan rolled his eyes and blew a fat bubble right in your face. “This isn’t 2nd grade, we can sit wherever we want.”
“Sheesh,” You held up your hands in defense, an amused smirk on your lips as you slid into the uncomfortable chair. Kyle sat next to you, Ethan taking the spot next to him. “Hey, Kyle?”
“Yeah?” The black haired boy had a beanie on today, his skin was pale – probably the exact same color as Bridget’s.
“Can I get your number? Bridget wants it and will never have the balls to ask.” You held your phone out to him with your contacts page open.
“Oh, yeah.” He smiled softly and gripped the phone, typing his information in quickly. “Tell her to text me, I’d like that.”
“Soft.” Ethan scoffed from the other side, making you shake your head and smirk. As much as you wanted to tell him off, you were in complete agreement.
“Wait - you TOLD him I wanted to talk to him?!” Bridget shrieked, her face bright red once again.
“It’s not like you were going to do it!” You shouted back at her as you face-planted into your bed.
“Says who?” She shot back, letting out a huff and folding her arms dramatically.
“The last 10 years of knowledge.” You laughed. “It’s okay, Bridget – he said he wanted to talk to you too so TEXT HIM.”
“Ugh - fine!” She groaned, sinking down into her desk chair and slipping out her phone.
Not even ten minutes later, Bridget was calling your name again – her signature small smile on her face letting you know she wanted something.
“Hey, Logannnn?” She smiled, pushing herself up off the chair and moving over to your bed.
“What is it?” You deadpanned, knowing she was going to ask you to do something.
“Kyle asked if I want to come up to Ethan’s room to hang out... but I don’t really want to go alone?” Her bottom lip was tucked between her teeth and as badly as you wanted to veg and watch Netflix, you knew your best friend was useless with men and needed you.
“Fine.” You sighed, rolling out of bed and slipping your plaid pajama pants on – the make-shift crop top you wore exposed your lower abdomen.
A few steps up some stairs and a knock of your fist later, you were being greeted by Kyle. As the two of you stepped inside you noticed a third boy in the room, he had his headphones in and his back turned away from everyone. He was flipping through a textbook quickly, the glasses on his head were pushed up onto his head – clearly not being utilized.
“Is this not your room?” You questioned, wrinkling your nose in confusion as you sat down next to Ethan on the futon.
“It’s my room.” Ethan muttered, annoyance evident in his voice as he tried to focus on the video game he was playing. “That’s my brother studying – don't bother him.”
“So, where do you stay?” Bridget questioned Kyle as the two of them sat down on the edge of what you presumed to be Ethan’s bed.
“A few doors down – my roommate is pretty weird so I am in here most of the time.” Kyle shrugged, his attention fully on Bridget as she started to tell him about her day.
“How is he studying with everyone in here?” You glanced back at the brother before looking up at Ethan who was still fully engrossed in his game.
“He won’t walk to the library at night so he really has no choice.” Ethan shrugged, tossing his controller aside as he died in the game, a low groan of frustration leaving his mouth. “Why are you here?”
“Rude.” You rolled your eyes at him, but answered anyways. “She asked me to come and it’s not like I could give her a valid excuse.”
“Well...” Ethan glanced around the room, seeing Kyle and Bridget in their own little world and his younger brother pretending two girls hadn’t just walked into their shared space. “You smoke?”
“Weed?” You confirmed before saying yes to him – he shook his head yes quickly and you smiled mischievously. “Hell yeah I do.”
Ethan stood up quickly, shuffling around in his bedside table drawers before nodding at you to follow him into the bathroom. The two of you were sharing a joint quickly, he had turned on the overhead fan as if that was going to help anything. You were about halfway through when you realized how close he was to you; you were sitting on the edge of the sink, his body was between your legs as you passed the small wrapped paper back and forth. You knew the affect you had on men and it was usually pretty fun for you to take advantage of how easily you could have them on your knees for you. You knew Ethan’s eyes were trained on your lips with every puff you took, he would lick his lips in hesitation as you pressed the tip back to him – not letting go of the base as he took his own.
As he slid one of his hands around your bare waist and started to speak, the door to the bathroom flew open and the similar face of what you could only assume was Ethan’s brother was on the other side. His glasses were pushed back down on his face – his very angry face – as he glared at the two of you.
“Ethan - you can’t DO that in here!” He huffed, not bothering to flick the thing away from the two of you – he didn’t want to burn anything.
“Grayson, come on.” Ethan groaned, stepping away from you and putting the j*int out in the sink. “It’s not a big deal.”
“Yes it is, Ethan.” Grayson spoke roughly again, his eyes flickering up to you for a moment. “We aren’t even supposed to have girls in here this late.”
“Well, Kyle is also here?” Ethan shot back, trying to reason with his very upset brother.
“No he isn’t, they left – said something about going back to her room.”
“Ughhh,” You threw your head back in annoyance, knowing you weren’t going to be able to go back to your room for a while.
“You can just hang out here, don’t worry about it.” Ethan shrugged at you, stepping past his brother and patting his back playfully. “Relax, Gray.”
“Hi, Grayson – I'm Logan.” You hopped off the counter and extended your hand to him, but he looked at it with disgust before rolling his eyes and sauntering off to his desk. “Alriiight.” You chuckled awkwardly as you shuffled back over to the futon and sunk into it – Ethan was on the edge of his bed watching something on his phone.
“What’s his deal?” You questioned Ethan.
“Oh, nothing... he’s just Mr. Goody Two Shoes.” Ethan giggled, the effects of the drugs taking affect as he poked fun at his brother who was no longer wearing his headphones.
“He’s never done anything bad?” You raised an eyebrow, glancing at him again – his hand was gripping his pencil tightly. His white knuckles exposed him.
“Nuh-uh.” Ethan shook his head. “Perfect, golden Grayson.”
“Ethan could you shut up?” Grayson whipped his head around, you were sure you could see tears in his eyes behind those thick-rimmed glasses. Ethan winced and crawled up into his bed, throwing the blanket over him to pretend to ignore his brother. Grayson’s eyes flicked to you and he blinked a few times, what you could only imagine was to get whatever tears in his eyes to go away.
“Sorry.” You chirped, giving him a tight-lipped smile before curling up on the futon and shutting your eyes.
-
“Hey...please wake up... jesus.”
The soft voice woke you up from your rock solid sleep, there was a hand on your shoulder, shaking you back and forth. You managed to peel your eyes open, a dark pair of glasses the first thing in your line of vision. It took you a few seconds to realize where you were, but there was a small blanket on top of you that you hadn’t put there and a pillow under your head as well.
“Thank god.” Grayson sighed, leaning back on his knees as you slowly sat up. “It’s 11AM and I really have to get to class... Ethan is already gone and I didn’t want to leave you in here alone.”
“Oh - yeah – yeah.” You nodded your head, rubbing your eyes sleepily before moving the blanket away from you and reaching around for your phone and keys. “Sorry - I’ll head out. Thanks for waking me up.”
“Sure.” The quiet boy nodded at you as you fumbled around for your shoes and shuffled out of the door.
A few days later and Bridget was claiming she was already planning her wedding to Kyle in her head. You wanted to warn her; knowing she did this every time any guy showed interest in her, but you didn’t want to rain on her parade. You hadn’t seen any of the boys again since Monday evening, you’d skipped your class Wednesday morning and surprisingly didn’t have any others with them.
Friday was here before you knew it and you and Bridget were getting dressed to go out – Kyle had begged her to come to Ethan’s frat, so that’s where you were going. You had settled on a nice pair of jeans and a white crop top; not bothering too much with your shoes because they were bound to get ruined.
“Logan, please don’t get too off your ass before we leave.” Bridget groaned as you took another pull of your Evan Williams. “I really don’t want to have to spend all night holding your hair in the bathroom.”
“Oh, shutup. I’ll be fine.” You rolled your eyes as you tucked the bottle into a Kroger bag and followed your friend out of the dorm.
“Bridget! Logan!” Kyle’s excited voice rung in your ears as the two of you wandered into the kitchen of the crowded frat house. You smiled at him softly as he pulled Bridget in for a hug, both of them immediately forgetting you were even there. You truly didn’t mind – you were able to entertain yourself at these things alone pretty easily.
Somewhere along the way, you had finished your bottle and made your way down to the basement where everyone was dancing. You weren’t sure who you were pressed up against, but you really didn’t care – sweaty bodies moving together with bass pounding was enough to distract you from anything. Whoever was behind you decided to step away, meaning you stumbled backwards into the hard wall – a loud oof leaving your chest as your head connected with the drywall.
As you steadied yourself, you glanced around the nearly pitch black room – faces only lighting up with the occasional flash of a neon strobe light. You were nowhere near sober, but you were sure you couldn’t be hallucinating Ethan Dolan curled up in a ball in the corner of the room. A small giggle left your mouth as you stumbled over to him, your face wrinkled in confusion as you kneeled down next to him.
“Ethan?” You shook the boy covered in who knows what liquid in front of you, he was definitely awake but definitely not okay. He glanced up at you, his eyes were pretty glossed over but you managed to sit up with his back resting against the wall. “Why were you on the floor?”
“Tired.” He shrugged, glancing around the room. “Why are you on the floor?”
“Because... you were on the floor.” You slurred, shrugging and deciding to join him on the ground – not really caring about how you were definitely ruining your jeans. “How much did you drink?”
“Can’t remember.” He shrugged again, leaning his body into yours and letting out a sigh as he rested his head on your shoulder. “We should go home.”
“I want fooood.” You nodded, resting your head against the wall as well.
“You have got to be kidding me!” Bridget’s voice cut through the air as your eyes shot open, a gasp leaving your lips as your eyes landed on her face that was maybe 2 inches away from yours. “How did you two fall asleep in the middle of a party?!”
“Wha-?” You twisted your head to see Ethan also attempting to wake up – there were still people dancing around you, but Bridget and Kyle were crouched down in front of you.
“Both of you – up.” Kyle snapped his fingers, reaching his hands down to help the both of you stand up. Bridget’s arm wrapped around your waist, Kyle’s around Ethan as they helped you both upstairs. “Grayson is coming to get you.” Kyle explained as the four of you stood on the lawn.
“Mr. Goody Two Shoes?” You gawked, crossing your arms in frustration. “He’s not gonna be any fun.”
“That’s the point.” Kyle muttered, his eyes brightening as a white Jeep pulled up in front of the house. “See, here he is.”
You and Ethan stumbled up to the car, you immediately got in the back as Ethan climbed into the front. Grayson had a hoodie propped up on his head, his glasses covering his puffy eyes. His jaw was clenched and you weren’t sure if it was the alcohol in you or if he looked hot angry, but you couldn’t help what tumbled out of your mouth as he pulled away from the party.
“Ugh, fuck – in a car with two hot ass twins.” You threw your head back against the headrest and moaned. “The things I’d do.”
Ethan started giggling hysterically while you were positive Grayson’s face was blood red. Ethan slapped his brother’s arm playfully and turned back to wink at you. “Hear that Gray? BOTH of us, not just me.”
“Aw, come on Ethan.” You shook your head as Grayson pulled into the parking lot of your dorm. “Maybe I was just including you to be nice.”
“Shut up.” Ethan rolled his eyes as he stumbled out of the car. “No one in their right mind would pick Grayson over me.” He smirked as he took off towards the building, his hands in his pockets as he swayed back and forth.
“Can you walk?” Grayson muttered from the front seat, his eyes briefly making contact with yours in the rearview mirror.
“Yeah.” You nodded at him before jumping out of the Jeep and walking next to him up the long sidewalk. “Why do you let him say those things about you?”
“He’s not wrong.” He shrugged, opening the door for you. “He’s drunk and just being honest.”
His answer made you sigh and you headed towards your room, but soon realized you had no idea where your keys were. Grayson was standing at the end of the hallway to make sure you got to your room and raised an eyebrow at you as you turned on your heel with a pout.
“I don’t have my keys.”
“Come on.” He sighed, turning around to head up to his room.
As the two of you entered the shared room, you immediately heard Ethan’s loud snores – he was sprawled out on the futon, drool sliding down his face. You wrinkled your nose up at him, letting out a sigh as you went over to jump onto Ethan’s bed.
“You don’t want to lay there.” Grayson warned you.
“Why?” You looked at him, confused.
“Let’s just say... probably 10 girls since school started and he hasn’t washed those sheets once.”
“Ew.” You grimaced, stepping away from the bed. “Okay, well I will just wait til Bridget and Kyle get back so she can let me in.”
“She’s not gonna let you in that room all night.” Grayson rolled his eyes and pulled his comforter on his bed back and held his hand out to you to help you step up. “Just sleep here, don’t worry about it.”
“Where are you gonna sleep?” Grayson just shook his head at you as you asked. “Okay, well – let me at least take my pants off so I don’t ruin your bed.” You drunkenly shimmied your jeans down your legs, not noticing Grayson’s eyes bulging out of his head as he stared at your butt. You quickly gripped his hand and stepped up into his bed, sliding into the warm blankets.
You watched quietly as Grayson shuffled around the room, brushing his teeth and setting up a collection of pillows on the floor to sleep on. He flicked the light off and got down on the ground, resting his head on the pillow and pulling the small blanket over his body. It took about three uncomfortable sighs and flips of his body for you to sit up and switch the lamp next to you on. He looked up at you, his eyes now fully visible as he had removed his glasses – they were hazel – just like Ethan’s.
“Just get in the bed, Grayson.” You spoke firmly, moving the blankets back and sinking as far into the side of the bed against the wall as possible. He went to speak but you held up your hand and slapped the mattress again. “Come on.”
He sighed and pushed himself up off of the floor, his grey sweatpants and white t-shirt clung to his body tightly. His face was much softer than Ethan’s, but his body actually seemed a little more built somehow. He was usually in awkwardly fitting clothing and oddly styled hair, so seeing him in casual sweats made him look like a new person.
He lifted himself up into the bed, his knees knocking against yours as he got comfortable on his side. He leaned over and turned off the lamp before resting his head back into the pillow – you could hear his heavy breathing and felt his heart pounding in the veins on his wrist as it rested against your forearm. “Thanks.” He muttered softly, letting out a deep breath of air as you leaned over and pressed a kiss to the shy boy’s cheek.

Sanders Sides Theory 01/15/20
You want a long theory? HERE’s A LONG FREAKIN THEORY.
To build off an earlier post of mine here, I believe we can reverse engineer the function of the next Side by analyzing the roles of the current known Sides in the context of their correlating sin.  I’ve included some flower meanings based on the shirt release but couldn’t identify them all from the photos available.  Please reach out to me if you have identified all the flowers.
Pride!Logan
Logic / Craves Stability / Reaction to adversity is to Double down
Logan is proud, but not about just anything.  He values intelligence, critical thinking, and the lofty goals of exploration: re: the astronomy class hype, and “what really is at the bottom of the ocean?” He prides himself in being right 100% of the time and utilizes information to do so.
When he missuses the word “infinitesimal” it is devastating to him.  It is brought up repeatedly in subsequent episodes and culminates in him feeling like one mistake will prevent him from ever being taken seriously again. He hates being wrong, because he believes that if he’s wrong, C!Thomas will literally fail at life, becoming destitute and homeless.  The stakes are real.
He needs to ensure success, which is why he first pushes C!Thomas to pursue more traditional careers.  His arc is about accepting that success in life can take on different forms.
Sloth!Virgil
Anxiety (Paranoia) / Reaction to adversity is to Give up
Virgil is often seen promoting activities that would be considered lazy, i.e. going back to bed in the middle of the day, staying home when they could go out, doing less work, trying fewer new things.  His makeup is a dramatized symbol for lack of sleep.  There are multiple instances showing him reluctant to spend more time even just in the presence of the other Sides; “Now I’m gonna go be cool, somewhere else.”  Ducking out is the pinnacle of sloth.
But sloth as a behavior is just a symptom of the actual condition: social anxiety and mild paranoia. Check out my short paranoia theory here.  Virgil resorts to inaction as a defense against feeling insecure about something. Wanted to go to that party, but you’re too nervous to talk to new people?  Well, actually, just stay in.  It’s safer and you need your rest.
That’s why Virgil’s arc is not about finding the motivation to do things; that would only work if laziness was the true problem.  Instead, his arc is about learning to think through fears and overcome them, so C!Thomas can do what he actually wants, which is to be more social.
Gluttony!Patton
Morality / Flower: Blue Forget-me-not / Craves Community / Reaction to Adversity is to Fake-it-til-you-make-it
Patton is about cravings. Food, pets, friends; he wants it all. He’s about enjoying everything life has to offer, gosh-darn the consequences.  He wants friends so badly he’s consistently willing to sacrifice his own well-being to put them first.  The concept of morality often focuses on giving instead of receiving.  It’s a way to prove to them that he’s a good friend, and therefore worth keeping around.  What seems like sacrifice is actually a careful prioritization of his favorite thing to indulge in: acceptance.  Being happy all the time is not just a show for the other Sides, it’s for C!Thomas’ friends as well.  People don’t want to be around someone who’s sad, right?  Gotta be happy, so they stick around.
Forget-me-nots are about happy memories and we already know Patton is a sucker for nostalgia.  One of his favorite things are memories, so he goes to extreme lengths to make lots of good memories with his friends.  Patton’s arc will ultimately be Not about diminishing his craving for friendship but realizing that he can be his most authentic self without losing them.  He can loosen the rules that he internalized.  Real friendship does not require perfection.
Greed!Deceit
Self-Preservation / Flower: Yellow Sunflower / Reaction to adversity is Sowing Discord
Deceit, like Logan, is also focused on C!Thomas’ success.  The difference is, he could not care less what that success looks like, only that C!Thomas gets it.  Where Logan is all about careful planning and preparedness, Deceit is about taking risks and seizing opportunities.  How can C!Thomas get the most out of life?  No, don’t worry about other people.  There is only C!Thomas.
Deceit’s objective is to eliminate the consequences of C!Thomas’ mistakes and increase the rewards for his effort.  He will do whatever it takes, whether that’s coaching C!Thomas to lie to others, or to be more honest with himself.  His stance is that since our society is built on lies, we should be willing to use lies to navigate it.  Deceit believes that if C!Thomas is honest to himself about what he wants, he’ll pursue it even at the risk of losing people along the way.  Simply put, Deceit must learn that no one makes it alone.  The sunflower symbolizes false riches, and this explains why Deceit’s assumption is wrong.  We all depend on others to reach our full potential, and a world where C!Thomas has gained everything by discarding or disadvantaging others is one C!Thomas wouldn’t want to live in.  It’s more difficult, but it’s worth it in the end to work with other people instead of around them.
Lust!Roman
Creativity / Flower: Red Rose / Reaction to adversity is Denial
It’s easy to see that Roman is all about finding that special someone.  Red roses symbolize love.  He’s dashing, brave, and often combats mythical creatures, not for fun (although it is fun), but to prove his manliness to a potential mate!  But this Side is actually one of the most complicated. He believes himself to be the most handsome Side, and he better be, because it is his duty to secure the end-all-be-all of C!Thomas’ life: romantic love.  Someone to spend your life with, grow old with.  The initial conflict between Roman and Anxiety is entirely because having Anxiety around would theoretically lower his chances of securing a relationship.  Once he saw that Anxiety could do what needed to be done in “Accepting Anxiety”, he was able to let go of that worry.
But remember, Roman is also about Self-Love.  The creativity that he pumps out isn’t art for art’s sake; it’s to bring himself joy and to fill that hole in his heart with some kind of excitement.  If he can’t throw all his passion at a person, he’ll throw it onto the stage.  That’s why each time his work is criticized, he’s confronted with the fear that it’s all just a distraction anyway.  Yes, he is objectively good at acting and enjoys it, but part of C!Thomas uses all these creative projects to feel something he isn’t getting anywhere else.
The Roman angst dates aaaall the way back to the Valentine’s Day Episode, wherein C!Thomas decided that platonic love was important to acknowledge, too.  Roman had already stated in the first episode that he would focus on loving himself.  But maybe on that particular Valentine’s day, C!Thomas stopped trying so hard to find romance.  Maybe he fell back on what he already had, the love of his friends, and thought to himself, this could be enough.  And each time an opportunity to feel true passion comes up again, C!Thomas rejects it. First when trying to rekindle things with the ex-boyfriend, then with the big call-back.  C!Thomas is putting his love life on hold to deal with other things right now, and it’s wearing on Roman.
The worst part is that it’s entirely possible, maybe even likely, that Roman (and therefore C!Thomas) isn’t sure what will happen once he’s found someone.  RE: Episode #1 – his greatest fear is rejection.
In “Am I Original?” C!Thomas states that if he only ever listened to Roman, he would be setting himself up for heartbreak.  That’s why Roman makes the final ruling in the court room.  That’s why he quietly accepts it every time they make a decision away from love (with impromptu exceptions – “PICK IT UP!”).  He both wants and fears love at the same time.  Roman’s arc isn’t really about what he needs to do differently, but about what C!Thomas needs to let him do for himself.  His stories aren’t about him getting his way and then finding out he took it too far. They’re about him not getting anything at all.  Once he gets the green light from C!Thomas, he will do what he’s always done; Throw caution to the wind in the pursuit of love.
Envy!Remus
Creativity / Flower: Green Dahlia / Reaction to adversity is Acting out for Attention
All the “Dark” Sides were pushed away for one reason or another, but it seems to hit Remus particularly hard.  It’s not fair that his brother should be chosen over him.  He considers himself not even just as good as Roman, but in many ways better at being creative!  His range is limitless, and he is confident in his abilities, unlike his brother.  He should be the main Creativity, not that crybaby!
Remus tries over and over again to make C!Thomas notice him.  He gives everything he’s got into each new idea, hoping that this one will be ‘the one’ to earn him C!Thomas’ recognition, but it never does.  Remus embodies envy.  It is his driving force; ALL he wants is consideration for his ideas.
Since Remus feels envious, C!Thomas does too.  If Remus wants to reach new heights of fame, so must C!Thomas!  From Remus’ standpoint, Roman isn’t getting the job done, so he’ll just have to keep throwing idea-after-horrifying-idea at C!Thomas until he gets through to the man.
Wrath!X?
Now for the hard part: figuring out what’s missing.  (You can check out my earlier Anger Theory here.)
Let’s summarize how the other Sides use their traits real quick:
Logan is proud of his intelligence that he uses to gain financial security.
Virgil is slothful as a result of his desire to feel safe.
Patton is gluttonous as the result of his goal to make C!Thomas feel happiness and enjoy life in the moment.
Deceit is greedy as a result of his goal to help C!Thomas navigate this world and come out on top.
Roman is lustful as a result of his goal to secure a loving, stable relationship for C!Thomas.
Remus is envious as a result of his goal to get C!Thomas to make a lasting mark on the world like so many have before.
For most of the Sides, the sin is directly related to the Sides’ function.  It’s their method of achieving their goals.  But there appears to be an outlier.  Logan seems different.  He doesn’t need to be proud in order to be intelligent, at least on the surface.  But, maybe that’s not true.  Maybe if he didn’t feel proud when he learned new things, he would have no motivation to seek out information in the first place.  Therefore, pride is essential to Logan’s function.
All the Sides rely on their sin to accomplish their goals.  They first have a goal, a job that they are supposed to complete for C!Thomas.  Then, the sin is their method of executing that job.  The function of the Side comes before the sin.
So, if wrath is the means, what is the goal?  What does C!Thomas need to be angry about in order to accomplish it?
What are all the instances where we see C!Thomas (not the individual Sides) get mad, even a little?
TOAwLS - C!Thomas gets frustrated with Anxiety popping up even when nothing’s wrong.
TMvTH - C!Thomas gets mad at Logan and Patton for pelting him with conflicting goals.
GU - C!Thomas acts mad at Patton for dreaming too much, but really, he’s lashing out at Patton because the others are pushing him too far in the other direction.
MOP2 - C!Thomas rudely disregards Logan for disrupting nostalgia-time.
SVS - C!Thomas gets mad at himself for considering lying to his friends.
If we’re being honest, this is a short list, and some of these don’t even really qualify as anger.  He’s more just kind of experiencing frustration as he works through things.  The most angry he gets is when it affects real people in his life; Lee and Mary Lee’s wedding.  He feels terrible about it, but he’s angry for two reasons here.  First, that the scheduling conflict even exists, because it’s denying him an important opportunity.  Second, because the situation caused him to confront a truth about himself that he’s never been comfortable with.
But we have one more example to work with; the Aside.  In ATHD? - C!Thomas got mad at Rico for past feelings that weren’t even specifically against C!Thomas.  We don’t see it, but we see the effects.  C!Thomas is so angry with himself for lashing out, and it tells us that he’s had a lot of anger before that he never released.  Anger about being in the closet when he was younger.  There are plenty of hints in the episode on this theme:
Roman calls C!Thomas a snowflake.
This shot from the movie: “You must learn to control it.  Fear will be your enemy.”
And most importantly, the lines “Don’t let them in, don’t let them see”.  Patton did purposely sing those lines of the Frozen song “Let it go”, which has often been correlated to coming out of the closet, because that was directly tied to the theme of the premier Aside.
C!Thomas had so conditioned himself to defend his sexuality that even the mention of past prejudice was enough to set him off, causing him to overreact in the situation with Rico. He was transported back to a time when he was still closeted, afraid to come out because of people like Rico’s younger self.  Now that he’s older, he feels anger toward the people he knew back then, and he took that anger out on Rico.
Let’s take a step back for a second.  What is C!Thomas’ ultimate goal for himself?  Balance. And what is C!Thomas’ ultimate goal for others?  Love and understanding.
C!Thomas got as angry as he did because this isn’t just about him anymore.  The prejudice that he remembered and was reacting to is something that people continue to face all the time.  As much as he struggled, he’s empathetic enough to know that others must be struggling, too, and his anger at Rico was actually anger at prejudice.
When the last Side is revealed, it will signal that the arc is closing and the series will eventually be coming to an end.  Will the series have made its mark?  Way back in IIADS!!, Anxiety unintentionally suggested, “using your platform to positively affect your audience the same way Disney did with you”  It’s not just about C!Thomas anymore.  It’s about you.  Us.
The biggest effect C!Thomas could have on his audience is self-actualization; becoming the most he can be and doing the most good for others that he possibly can.  Prejudice is an issue that has personally affected him and clearly affects his audience.  Fighting prejudice is a cause worth getting angry about, WORTH showing a little wrath.
Logan and Virgil have affected how C!Thomas takes in information.  Deceit and Patton affect how he moves through that world.  Roman and Remus affect how he wants his work to be seen on a personal level.  But Wrath will be how C!Thomas affects the world at large.  Wrath will lead the charge for affecting real change.  Wrath will close out the series and launch a generation of inspired viewers to go out into their own worlds and fight for their freedoms.  Wrath will be our hero.

Guys, we’re getting the band together!
Wow! Another fanfic! This time inspired by the lovely @not-so-innocent-bi-sander ‘s CALM band au, which you can find here.
summary: how Roman manages to get them all together in one place and pitch his idea.
word count: 2500 ish
Enjoy!!
“Mr. Brooks? A messenger dropped this off for you this morning.”
Logan looked up from his phone as he walked into his office and nodded gratefully at his secretary, taking the letter from him.
“Thank you Dominic. If you need me, I’ll be going over the latest mix in my office until my meeting at eleven.”
Logan Brooks: music producer, DJ, remixer, and EDM composer extraordinaire. Logan sat down at his desk, taking a moment to look out over the skyline, before turning his attention to the letter he had been handed.
To: Mr. Logan Brooks was scrawled on the front of the heavy, cream colored envelope. It was sealed with a bright red, wax seal that made Logan quirk his eyebrow. That was a bit extravagant. He grabbed the letter opener he kept in his desk and deftly opened it.
Dear Mr. Logan Brooks,
You are cordially invited to a business dinner at my home this Friday evening at 7. I am a big fan of your work and would love to discuss a collaboration with you if at all possible. Do you have any allergies I should know of? Please let me know in your RSVP.
Highest regards,
Mr. Roman Lyons
Now that was a surprise. Roman Lyons was a well-known actor, having won several awards over the past year alone. What on earth could he want with Logan’s line of work?
But still, the invite was intriguing. He figured there would be no harm in seeing what this collaboration was all about. After all, if worse came to worse he could always decline. Rising from his seat, he returned to the front desk.
“Dominic. Send an RSVP to Mr. Lyons through the same messenger service. Tell him I’ll be there.”
Patton Campbell was probably the most down to earth celebrity anyone had ever met. Granted, he was still up and coming, but he was talented and his fan base was growing fast. Even with the added attention recently, he still loved to go out and mingle with the crowd after a show, signing autographs, taking photos, or just thanking them for coming.
He was enjoying the buzz from the crowd as they slowly trickled out of the lobby and back into the parking lot, ready to go home after the concert. He was still smiling as someone came up and placed a hand on his shoulder.
“Patton Campbell, correct?”
He turned to face the newcomer and his jaw nearly dropped.
“Yeah, yeah! That’s me! And you’re-“
The man laughed. “Roman Lyons. That was a sweet concert you just put on my friend.”
“Oh wow, I mean, thank you! I- I really enjoy what I do, so it’s always a pleasure.”
“I’m glad. It’s important to be passionate about one’s career. Say, what are you doing this Friday evening?”
“Oh, I- um, I don’t think I have anything. I’d have to double check of course, but, why?”
“I’m having a dinner at my home with a couple other artists. I have an idea for a collaboration and was wondering if you would be interested in joining us.”
Patton didn’t know what to say. “I- yes! Oh my gosh, I would love to! I’ll be there!”
“Excellent! I look forward to it. I’ll have my agent contact yours with all the information. See you then!”
Patton stood in blissful shock as he watched one of his favorite actors ever walk away after, not only, congratulating him on his show, but giving him a personal dinner invitation.
He needed to sit down.
----------------
Virgil was finally happy to have a moment to relax. He had been working non-stop on his latest album and had just sent the final cut to his producer to make sure it was good to go. With a groan, he flopped back onto his bean bag chair that he kept at the studio for that express purpose. Being a solo artist was a lot of work, that was for sure. He had convinced his assistant editor to take the night off and had finished up the album himself. The punk rock guitarist had just needed some time alone.
He was dozing off, enjoying the quiet, considering playing a game on his phone when there was a quiet knock at the door and the click of it opening. Virgil’s eyes snapped open and settled into a glare when he saw who it was.
“I already told you I’m not interested,” he said loudly, relaxing back into the bean bag.
“You haven’t even heard my idea yet!” Roman replied closing the door behind him.
“Well it’s your idea so, the answer is still no.” The actor heaved a deep breath, trying to keep his cool, and Virgil smirked, pleased to get a rise out of the man.
“I know you like to work alone,” Roman finally said, voice a lot softer than expected. “But I can’t help but think that that must get… lonely sometimes. This Friday evening at 7, Patton Campbell and Logan Brooks will be coming to my place for dinner. You’re invited. And if after that you decide you still don’t want a part in it, I won’t bother you further.” He held up a business card and set it on the desk where the sound mixer sat. “I hope you’ll come.” And he left.
Well- heck.
Now he kind of wanted to go.
He and Logan and interacted a bit in the past and he had never met Patton, but the guy seemed nice enough (not that he wasn’t totally convinced it wasn’t just a front). And just the four of them wouldn’t be too awkward.
Or it could be the most awkward thing of his life.
Virgil groaned, pressing his hands into his eyes, fighting against the new emotions. He had tried working with others one time and that had led to him going to ongoing therapy for the last five years and a scandal of considerable size that had taken months to work through. So no, he was not eager to try it again.
But Roman had seemed to cut right to the heart of the issue. If he really admitted it to himself, he was lonely. He didn’t do friends anymore; he couldn’t, not after last time.
He finally stood up and stalked over to the card Roman had left. It was a business card with the actor’s address and (personal?) phone number scribbled on the back. Virgil hated this- this… speck of hope.
He shoved it in his back pocket and grabbed his jacket, flipping the lights off on his way out. Maybe this time could be different.
He doubted it though.
 ---------------------
Roman peeked out the door and into the entryway. Everything was set up and ready to go. Two out of the three of his guests had arrived and were making small talk near the door, but he had to admit, he was quite disappointed that their resident punk rocker had failed to show. Ah well. He poised himself, ready to swoosh open the doors and welcome his guests, when his phone buzzed. Odd. Roman pulled it out to see a text from an unknown number.
Running late. Be there in ten. [skull emoji]
Roman smiled. This was going to be an excellent evening.
---------------
“Friends! Welcome to my home! Thank you so much for coming.”
Logan and Patton looked up from their conversation, Patton smiling warmly, dressed in a light blue flannel shirt, and Logan, wearing a black button up shirt, merely looking intrigued.
“Glad to be here,” Logan replied, adjusting his glasses. “Are we expecting anyone else this evening?”
“Our third guest will be arriving shortly, he’s running a bit late I’m afraid. While we wait, let’s move to the dining room.”
Roman’s house was indeed quite ostentatious. Dark wood, white marble floors, with red upholstery and gold detailing really made the place seem quite lavish. And of course there was the fact that it was, well, huge.
“Your house is amazing, Mr. Lyons!” Patton exclaimed as they made their way down the hall.
“Please, call me Roman. And thank you, I’m quite pleased with how it turned out. “ His phone buzzed. “Excuse me. Please, take a seat. Our third guest just arrived.”
Patton watched Roman go, then turned back to Logan excitedly, taking the seat across from him. “Who do you think it’s going to be?”
“I haven’t the faintest idea. While you and I may be in the music industry, there is no connection between the three of us. I expect we’re in for a surprise.”
No sooner had he spoken than Roman returned toting a leather jacket clad Virgil Grimm in tow.
“Oh. My. Goodness,” Patton breathed. No one could probably tell based off Patton’s look alone, but Virgil Grimm was one of Patton’s favorite artists. His lyrics were absolute masterpieces.
“Sup,” Virgil greeted. Roman gestured for him to take a seat and he chose the spot next to Patton, almost sending the country singer into a heart attack.
“Hi! I’m Patton!” he greeted, unable to contain himself any longer and extended his hand, which Virgil awkwardly shook.
“Virgil.”
“Big fan of your work. Actually, big fan of all your work. You guys are amazing!” He stopped, realizing he had started to gush, and hoping he wouldn’t be kicked out or anything. Roman smiled.
“I have to agree with Patton. You guys are amazing. But, there’s plenty of time to talk business later. First, food!”
A couple servers came in, each carrying two plates, placing one in front of each artist. They were met with a quiet chorus of thank you’s as they ducked back out.
“Geez Roman, you pulled out all the stops, didn’t you?” Virgil asks, admiring his steak, baked potato, and bowl of fresh fruit.
“It does look quite good,” Logan agreed, placing his napkin on his lap before digging in.
Patton and Roman were the ones that kept the conversation going throughout dinner. They jumped from Roman’s most recent projects to how Logan got into the music industry in the first place to asking after the inspiration for the lyrics of Virgil’s various songs. It was a little awkward, but not for long. Virgil hated to say it, but he was enjoying himself.
“How about we take dessert in the lounge?” Roman suggested. The others followed him, Virgil and Logan quietly discussing the pros and cons of various sound editing techniques, and ended up in a comfy lounge. Bookshelves lined the walls, a couple couches were centered around a coffee table in front of a fireplace with a TV mounted above it on one side of the room, while a grand piano took up the other half of it. A small display of sweets was set up on the coffee table and they moved to sit on the couches.
“Now-“ Roman began only to be cut off by Virgil.
“So help me, if you say, “now you’re probably wondering why I’ve brought you all here today.””
“Psh, ah, I was not going to say that.” A pause. “But since you brought it up, you’re probably wondering why I’ve brought you all here today.”
“Yes, that would be accurate.”
“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t curious.”
“Very well then. I told all of you I was interested in a collaboration and that’s true, however what I didn’t tell you was that it would be a collaboration between the four of us.” They looked amongst themselves all thinking the same thing: they were all so different. What could they possibly do together?
“I want to form a band.”
All three seemed to react at once. Patton with a laugh and a surprised smile, Logan with a frank, “Absurd,” and Virgil with a growl as he seemed to sink in on himself.
“Now hear me out-” Roman began.
“Not to be rude,” Logan interrupted. “But the thought is preposterous. We all come from different genres of music and you,” he said, waving his hand, “don’t even have a presence in the music world.
“Come on now Logan,” Patton said. “We have more in common than you think. Music…”
They waited, but he didn’t continue.
“Oh he’s done. As I was saying-”
“I am Moana!”
They were all left in stunned silence as Roman belted out the random Disney line. It was surprisingly good.
“Have you ever felt like nobody was there?”
“Dear Evan Hansen?” Patton whispered to Virgil.
“I want adventure in the great wide somewhere! I want it more than I can tell!” he sung, standing up and moving to the more open part of the room.
“Beauty and the Beast,” Virgil muttered.
“You sound really good Roman,” Patton said.
“Yes,” Logan mused. “He’s not wrong.”
“Oh, ah, thank you,” Roman said, clearing his throat. “Come on, don’t you see! We could make this work! I’ve always wanted to sing, but the right role never came up. So, I thought, why not take matters into my own hands? And you three! You’re all brilliant! With me as vocals, Virgil on guitar, Patton on bass, and Logan on synthesizer, how could we not be huge?”
“So is that what this is about?” Virgil said. “Being huge? In case you haven’t noticed Princey we’re all kind of famous.”
“Which is why…” Roman drawled. “We keep our identities a secret.”
He was met with confused silence, maybe a cricket chirp.
“What-”
“Think about it. Combined, we have the resources to keep this completely internal. To write, record, and produce our own music without anyone having to know who we are. And then we can see how good we are together. Will people listen to us for our music? Or just for our names.”
“That’s not a bad idea,” Patton finally said. “And I think it sounds like a lot of fun. I’ll need to brush up my bass skills though.”
“The idea is intriguing, I admit. Assuming we can work around all of our schedules, I’d be willing to give it a try.”
“Virgil?” The look Roman gave him was pleading, but also respectful; whatever Virgil’s decision was, he would accept it.
“You know I hate working with others,” he finally said. “But, I’ll give it a shot.”
Roman couldn’t help the whoop of excitement with a rather enthusiastic fist pump.
“Thank you guys. Thank you guys so much. I can’t wait to start working with you.”

I know I can’t stand you, but please stay anyway? (pt 4)
Pt1|Last Chapter| Ao3
Warnings: Family Christmas, Arguing (really more like bickering, though), Profanity, a lot of original characters
Pairings: Moceit
Patton hates lying. Patton never tells lies. Patton has told a massive lie. Ethan can’t stand Patton. He has no reason to ever help him. Except, of course, the most obvious one. A fake relationship, a family Christmas, and other shenanigans ensue
“Patton! Welcome home sweetheart, it’s so good to see you!”
“Mum!”
The door opened to reveal a smiling individual in a Christmas sweater who Ethan could only assume was Pauline Hart.
Almost instantly, Patton’s slightly tense expression from earlier disappeared as he embraced his mother, and the two gushed briefly about how happy they were to see each other, how handsome Patton had gotten, how wonderful the lights looked, how fun the week would be, and the possibility of snow later in the week. Neither of them stopped to take a breath or stopped smiling at any point in the exchange. Definitely Patton’s mother.
Patton finally drew away, smiling guiltily at Ethan as if he’d forgotten his presence.
“Uh, Mum? This is…um, this is him. My, um, I mean, this is Ethan.”
Mrs Hart beamed, looking at him as if she didn’t even notice how out of place Ethan’s long, messy hair and dark clothing looked in her incredibly immaculate hallway. Ethan almost felt bad that his entire acquaintance with this woman was about to be based on a lie. Did the entire family possess some kind of weird super power that compelled people around them to be nice?
Well, one could still argue that the goodness of helping and possibly wooing Patton outweighed the badness of lying to a woman he barely knew, so Ethan didn’t feel too guilty for putting on a polite smile and extending his hand.
“It’s an absolute pleasure to finally meet you, ma’am,”
She completely disregarded his hand, instead pulling him into a warm hug.
“Oh, it’s so wonderful to meet you too, sweetie! And please, there are no formalities in this household, okay? When you’re here, you can call me Pauline, or if you’re comfortable with it, you can call me ‘mum’, most of Patton’s little friends do, but either away, I don’t want to hear any of this ‘ma’am’ nonsense, alright?”
Ethan couldn’t help but sneak a glance at Patton to see him struggling not to inform Pauline that they weren’t ‘actually’ friends.
“Come on in loves, you must be exhausted, how was your journey?” She ushered them into a cozy living room, already decorated for Christmas, with what Ethan personally considered an inordinate amount of tinsel on literally every surface. He did appreciate the Santa hats taped over family pictures though.
Patton looked equal parts impressed and mildly annoyed as Pauline pressed tea into both of their hands and Ethan sat slightly too close to him as he complimented Pauline on her impeccable taste in quirky throw pillows.
(His personal favourite was one with scrabble pieces spelling out ‘puns not dead’. He was starting to see where Patton’s entire personality originated from.)
“Oh, Ethan you’re far too sweet. Patton, why on earth would you wait so long to invite him home?”
“Mum…” Patton muttered, turning slightly red.
“What? It’s a perfectly reasonable question, honey. Ethan, don’t you think it’s more than reasonable for a mother to wonder what kind of man her son has been seeing for more than three years?”
“Mum!”
“I’m just asking a question! Especially when your young man is this lovely Patton, I’m almost astounded at your lack of manners here, mister.”
Ethan decided to rescue him.
“Actually Pauline, I’m afraid that in this instance you have me to blame. Patton has been pushing for this meeting for years. I actually kept putting it off, because the prospect of disappointing two people so important to Patton was too daunting to face. I’m so sorry for any concern I may have caused you.”
Ethan gagged internally. He sounded like Roman trying to get his way. It was effective in this instance however, with Pauline giving him a touched look and waving away his apology.
“Well it’s very sweet of you to worry, but I assure you, you have absolutely nothing to worry about here. As long as you’re making Patton happy, I’ve got absolutely no problems with you.”
Ethan ignored Patton’s pointed look. That kind of thing was very easy to say, but he knew better than to take it at face value. Pauline certainly seemed like a nice woman, but so did most sweet old white ladies when one had only spoken to them for fifteen minutes.
“Well, now that you are here, why don’t you tell me more about yourself, Ethan? I feel like I barely know you at all! Every time I tried asking this one more about you, he’d start making excuses and try to get off the phone- I was starting to think you might not be real!”
Patton flushed beet red, opening his mouth as if to protest, before shutting it again in favour of burying his face in a pillow that claimed “Stay Pawsitive” (Complete with an illustration of a corgi).
He grew increasingly squirmier as Ethan made polite conversation with Pauline, about his plans for his future, surprised to find that he was actually enjoying himself somewhat. Clearly, he had a knack for impressing mothers. If things with Patton didn’t work out, he could start a very lucrative career as a fake boyfriend-for-hire.
“Mum, when does Vivian get home?” Patton cut in, apparently tired of having Ethan monopolizing his mother’s attention. “She said she’ll be arriving today.”
“She is, sweetheart, your dad’s just gone to pick her and Andre up. You know, the airport’s so far away, and they have a toddler to keep track of, so I insisted he go and give them a hand.” She turned her attention back to Ethan almost immediately. “But, Patton, you never told me you were dating a lawyer in the making!”
Patton rolled his eyes as discreetly as he could whilst Ethan preened under the attention. Was it petty of him to enjoy this so much despite how much it was clearly irritating Patton? Probably, but he was having far too much fun to stop now.
“Mum, I think Ethan is tired!” He cut in for the second time, now looking over at Ethan. “He was just saying, how he always gets worn out by travelling, weren’t you? Can I show him up to my room, and then you and I can catch up while he gets some rest?”
“That’s really not necessary-“ Ethan protested. He didn’t want to go upstairs when he’d just begun enjoying himself! When was the last time someone gushed over him like this?
“He’s just being shy mum, E’s always so worried about coming across as rude, but he hardly ever gets as much sleep as he should, and it’s really, really important to me that he use this vacation finally rest.”
Almost instantaneously, Pauline’s polite but happy demeanour gave way to a grim look filled with pure, terrifying, motherly concern. Ethan got the feeling that if he didn’t get himself upstairs immediately, he would be forcibly tucked in with a bedtime story.
“Well, Ethan, that just won’t do!”
“Really, ma’am, I-“
“Now, I know you young people are very ambitious these days, thinkin’ you can just stay up all night studying and then go to class the next day-“
“It’s not quite like that-“ It was, in fact, almost exactly like that, but she didn’t need to know that.
“But there is nothing more important than your own health! I’m sure you’re a very smart boy, but I don’t want to hear of you overworking yourself like that, okay?”
“… yes, ma’am.”
Pauline peered at him over her glasses, somehow managing to look far more intimidating than her son ever had, despite the fact that she was probably smaller than even Patton.
“And what have I told you about calling me ma’am?”
“Yes…Pauline?”
“Better. Now, I’ve set up Patton’s room for the two of you, it’s the first door on the left upstairs. I’d like you to go upstairs and rest yourself, please. As I said before, there are no formalities in this household, and I won’t hear of you depriving yourself of much needed rest for the sake of impressing me, okay?”
“…okay.” His voice came out far meeker than he was expecting.
Patton grinned at him far too sweetly. “Do you want me to show you the way?”
Fortunately, the sudden reminder that he was far sneakier than his cat pyjamas suggested only served to make Ethan more attracted to him.
He grinned at Patton, matching the other’s saccharine sweetness perfectly. “Very kind of you to offer, darling, but I think I’ll be okay.”
Not that he’d ever previously put any thought into the matter, but Patton’s childhood bedroom was exactly what he’d expected it would be. It had clearly been kept lovingly exactly the same as it must have been when Patton left for uni – from the collection of worn soft toys in the corner, to the collage of notes, postcards, and photos of a young Patton with an assortment of smiling friends. He recognized and took a quick picture of a baby-faced Logan in a too large tie to send to Virgil later.
“You know, you could probably give Ro a run for his money.” He whirled around to see Patton standing in the doorway, a wry smile on his face. “You’re surprisingly good at acting.”
“Shouldn’t you be downstairs bonding, or whatever?”
Patton pouted, making his way over to his bed. “Mum said it would be rude of me to leave you alone like this and sent me up. I expect we’ll be pushed together like this quite a lot over the week.”
Ethan gasped, bringing his hand up to his chest in mock horror. “You mean to tell me your parents expect us, a supposed couple of more than three years, to enjoy spending time together? Tell me it isn’t so!” He sat next to Patton. “You poor thing, stuck with your worst enemy all week long. Next thing you know, they’ll expect you to actually sit through a conversation with me present without getting huffy.”
Patton blushed, frowning down at his lap. “I don’t consider you my worst enemy.” He mumbled.
“Oh? Then you have someone you hate more than me?”
“I don’t hate you, Ethan!” Patton burst out, before immediately being silenced by Ethan’s hand over his mouth. “Mmph, what are you-“
“Oh, I’m sorry, have you forgotten that your mother is in the house? Or is your intention to make her think that we’re on the verge of breaking up?”
Patton looked slightly sheepish as Ethan removed his hand, continuing at a quieter volume. “I don’t hate you, I just,” he trailed off with a sigh “I do wish you were nicer sometimes.”
Ethan hummed, leaning closer to Patton and running his hand up his freckled arm. Patton frowned at the contact, but he didn’t move away. “Right, because you always react so well to my attempts at being nice to you.” He murmured the words softly in Patton’s ear, hoping his quiet voice would prompt Patton to look him in the eye.
It didn’t. He could see that Patton was biting the inside of his cheeks, an action Ethan had come to associate with his nervousness.
“I can never tell when you’re actually being nice.” Patton finally spoke, fiddling with his shirt. “You’re always making fun of me, specifically of me; you don’t mess with the others nearly as much, anyone would think you hated me.”
“As if I could hate you,” Ethan scoffed, ignoring Patton’s disbelieving look, “You’re always so nice, and kind.”
For fucks sake, he knew he was telling the truth and he barely believed himself. Why could he never just be straightforward when it came to this guy?
“See, this is what I mean! This is what I mean, you can’t even say something nice about me without sounding like you’re making fun!”
Ethan opened his mouth to protest but Patton was already shaking his head, clearly unwilling to continue this line of conversation.
“You know what, never mind. I mean, it hardly matters. Either way, I’m thankful that you’re helping me out. I’m sure we can act normal around each other for the next week, right? And then we’ll only ever have to see each other when all our friends are around!”
He offered him another obviously, horribly, fake grin, and Ethan’s gut twisted.
Yes, obviously, that’s what I want, I’ve agreed to come out with you to the middle of fucking nowhere and interact with your entire family, because I saw you distraught and couldn’t handle it until you were happy again, because I want to stop interacting with you.
Predictably, he didn’t say any of this. Instead, he raised an eyebrow at Patton, drawing away slightly. “Right, because we’ve been so good at acting normal so far, I can’t imagine that’ll present any issues at all.”
Patton frowned at him, “What do you mean?”
“Oh, nothing; I’m certainly not referring to the fact that you consistently jump ten feet in the air every time I touch you or move near you, in fact, I’m sure most normal couple dynamics also include one person consistently regarding the other as if they’re afraid of them.”
Patton blushed furiously, hissing at him, “I am not afraid of you- no, don’t look at me like that, I’m not! You just, you just startle me sometimes, that’s all! You can’t just randomly start acting all…funny, without any kind of warning!”
“So, you’re telling me that if I just asked you for a kiss right now, you’d have no problem with complying?”
Well, that definitely wasn’t pushing his luck at all.
“Actually, yeah, I think that’d be nice. You know, I’d just like some warning if you’re going to, um.” Patton drew off as he saw Ethan raise his eyebrows.
“So, if I asked you for a kiss right now…” he repeated, a smile tugging at his lips. It wasn’t like he expected Patton to say yes, more likely he’d just roll his eyes and glare cutely at him all over again, and frankly, that was fine by him.
“Okay.”
Wait, what?
Patton looked slightly nervous, but he said, “I mean, we probably will have to, um, at some point, and I’d rather the first time at least be without an audience so we don’t get to nervous, I guess, so yeah, if you want to-“
Oh. Well, he was certainly prepared for this. It definitely wasn’t like he’d ever imagined kissing Patton before. In fact, this was exactly how he’d always wanted it to go. It wasn’t like imagining it was any different to it actually happening. Oh, god, his heart definitely wasn’t beating any faster at all.
“Um, E? You okay? Were you being serious about, uh, or-“
Patton was offering him an out. He could just say he’d been joking; he wouldn’t have to-
He kissed Patton.
For someone who’d blushed and stuttered every time he tried to talk about it, Patton was kissing him back with surprising conviction, gripping the front of his shirt as he chased his lips. Fuck, now Ethan really hoped he was able to make some sort of sincere move by the end of the week, because he really didn’t want to have to move on from this.
Patton’s smiled at him shyly as they separated. “Alright?”
Ethan couldn’t resist.
“Oh, more than alright, Patton. In fact, if I didn’t know any better, I might even say you’ve done this before”
This time, his teasing had exactly the intended effect.
Patton’s smile disappeared. “I’ve kissed people before, you jerk,” he muttered, before tugging him back in so he could bite at his lower lip.
Ethan was only too happy to return the favour.
“Oh my god, I am so sorry!”
The two men jerked apart, turning towards the door.
“Vivian?”

Escape Room 123movies Review
Regardless of the banner, there is an astonishing absence of jigsaw astounds in this film. Or on the other hand skeletons, really.
So at the beginning of today, escape room 123movies I took myself to the films and saw Escape Room, which I've been interested about since the trailers were delivered. I love escape rooms, I've played through The Room and every one of its spin-offs on numerous occasions, give me some old fashioned riddle unraveling and I am SO there! While I was anticipating a few panics, I was trusting there wouldn't be anything excessively horrifying since it conveys a PG-13 rating. Ideally there would be more sharp climatic alarms than violent passing scenes, and I was correct!
Tumblr media
(Fun certainty: did you realize that there were two films that turned out in 2017 likewise called Escape Room? I didn't until I was attempting to discover pictures for this film! Evidently, those two motion pictures are… not incredible, however I can't by and by vouch for them.)
THE PLOT
Escape room 123movies begins in, amusingly enough, an escape room! It at first appears as though a richly beautified front room, and everything is quiet until Logan Miller drops through the roof. He's limping, beat-up, and in all out frenzy mode as he totters to a convoluted looking number-labyrinth lock thing on the entryway. He understands that he needs four numbers, however when he pulls on the 1, the divider inverse him begins shutting in. Fantastic. We're in that spot with him as he battles to search for hints to locate the four numbers required as increasingly more of the excellent room gets decimated and squashed behind him. He finds the four numbers required, so he thinks, however they don't work, and we watch as he gradually gets squashed… .. … ..and afterward we flashback to three days earlier. Here we meet three of our fundamental characters, Zoey (played by Taylor Russell), Jason (played by Jay Ellis), and obviously, Ben (played by Logan Miller). If you don't mind, note that Ben appears to be marginally more assembled here, as in, he's not being squashed in an escape room… yet. These three characters are unfathomably unique in relation to one another, and they each get a strange riddle box from somebody they know. The riddle box drives them to Minos Escape Rooms with the guarantee of ~fabulous money prizes~ on the off chance that they can fathom the unsolvable escape room. It is here we meet our other three principle cast individuals: Danny (played by Nik Dodani), Mike (played by Tyler Labine), and Amanda (played by Deborah Ann Woll). After Ben apparently breaks the door handle in the lounge area, the six unfortunates find that the sitting area IS the escape room, and the game has started. The remainder of the film is, you got it, an escape room! We learn all through the remainder of the film more about the characters and why they were picked for this lethal game through shockingly explicit subtleties in all the rooms, and furthermore, who sent them here in any case?
There's a great deal of extremely sullen riddle understanding. Like, a great deal.
THE REVIEW
This film is incredibly fun. That feels wrong to state about a "mental loathsomeness spine chiller," however I swear it is enjoyable. As I would like to think, the film makes a captivating showing of uncovering minor character subtleties all through without dropping the huge bend until the correct second. I love things like this where you sense that you need to focus on everything about you'll miss something and genuinely perhaps you should watch it again to truly get everything?? I live for stuff that way. It was upsetting a result of what was going on and invigorating when something at long last went right. I truly appreciated it all in all, and I think my assessment of the film showed signs of escape room 123movies improvement the more I pondered it a short time later. Those are my preferred sorts of movies, the ones that make you consider them a while later.
Presently it's an ideal opportunity to escape into the following room of this survey, (I don't know whether I'll have the option to keep up the play on words game for each audit, fam) so Spoiler Warning currently in actuality, and I truly suggest for this film you see it first totally ignorant concerning any spoilers or significant plot details!\
this room? This room directly here?? This is the most noticeably terrible room, undoubtedly
THE MUSIC
The music for this film was extremely novel when I saw it, and it's one explanation I need to watch it once more, since I'm certain there were prominent music minutes I missed. The score truly set up for anxiety and anticipation, and it helped me to remember the music played in each film where somebody's attempting to hack into a PC under a period limit. You know the one. Prominent music minutes incorporate the initial tune that sets the room we see Ben fall into, the melody that plays during the montage of Ben, Jason, and Zoey attempting to understand their riddle boxes, the end credits music, and obviously, that AWFUL contorted version of Petula Clark's "Downtown" that plays as a clock in the topsy turvy Pool Room, presented previously. Awful room. Most noticeably terrible room. Loathe it.
Tumblr media
Zoey is all that is unadulterated and acceptable known to mankind
THE CHARACTERS
By and large, there were a ton of affable characters in Escape Room, which is somewhat lamentable in light of the fact that a significant number of them don't, well, escape. All the characters were one of a kind, and I acknowledged how every one of them had various responses to the stressors in each room, as indicated by their character. Zoey is my supreme top choice, she was a joy to watch the whole film, and I so valued her being the outright brainiac of the gathering. More virtuoso WOC jobs in films, it would be ideal if you There was additionally an extraordinary character circular segment for Ben, which I incredibly delighted in, and there was a great deal of heart given to both Mike and Amanda too. Sadly, Danny isn't around sufficiently long to truly be created, and Jason ends up being a survivalist butt nugget with a significant predominance complex. Yet, for the most part, you felt for all the characters, and you needed to see them escape, which implied that their demise scenes for the most part hit you similarly as hard as they hit the survivors. Danny's passing is a stunner for every one of them, particularly Ben, and the manner in which Amanda's demise hits Zoey is grievous to observe however it puts Zoey into in-your-face survivor boss mode, which is entirely incredible. This implies, nonetheless, that Zoey is resolved to cut down the degenerate AF organization behind Minos escape room 123movies, which cool, yet in addition based off that last scene, NOOOOOOOOO!!
This scene fools you into deduction everybody will be fine.
THE SCENERY
Presently when I initially observed the trailer for Escape Room, I believed that each room would be intended for one of the characters explicitly. That is not really the situation, yet each room is definitely unique and extraordinarily fatal, with character-explicit subtleties woven-all through. They're totally structured so that you could see them being a real escape room in reality, with the exception of they all have an ACTUAL fatal curve, rather than entertainers and phony results. The little subtleties were extremely sharp and in some cases sort of tragic. The fire and stopped vent slither set off Amanda's PTSD in a truly gutting scene and prologue to her character. The tusk trophies in the room presented over each spoke to one of the notable reindeer from the "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" tune, which was unpleasant for Ben due to his flashback and harsh for the crowd since that is unmistakably intimating that the reindeer have been butchered which like, impolite, keep Christmas separate from this?? My least most loved room is the cold winter horrendousness essentially in light of the fact that it was pulverizing watching them cooperate to both arrangement with Danny's demise and attempt to dissolve the key required out of the focal point of a strong square of ice while they're sharing ONE coat among them. Ugh. In any case, a nearby second is that dumb topsy turvy pool room. Plan shrewd it's extraordinary, however generally? Detest it. Abhor what occurs. Probably not.
Goodness hello look! There are skeletons in this film!
THE TWIST
Alright, on the off chance that you've perused this far and haven't seen the film yet, trust me when I state you actually most likely wanna see it first before I proceed.
For every other person? Here we go.
Escape Room has really, two or three turns when you consider it. The underlying turn is, obviously, the way that all the risky snares are in reality genuine and dangerous. The stakes are REAL high.
The following turn comes in the room equipped like an emergency clinic. Each character is attracted to a particular bed, set up in an unexpected way. It turns out, each character invested energy sooner or later in the emergency clinic, and each bed is an ideal amusement of their room. Through conversation, they discover that every one of them was the sole overcomer of something horrendous that transpired (we get little blazes about what these occasions could be all through the film). Zoey makes sense of that whoever is running the escape room must need to see who, among them, is the "most fortunate of the fortunate."
After a couple more rooms and a couple more passings, we find Ben, who did undoubtedly endure getting squashed in the sumptuous lounge escape room 123movies (so I surmise in fact he simply didn't get squashed). He stumbles into a type of stockroom with an enormous screen that shows every one of their photos, and every one of them, put something aside for his, have a huge red "X" up and over. In his image, he is marked the "Champ." A hairy British man goes into the room to uncover the following turn: this whole thing was set up by a gathering of exhausted, rich individuals who are entranced by the human will to endure. English Beard declares that people have consistently adored viewing different people in close demise circumstances, and they have run these escape rooms on various occasions, similar to an investigation, to attempt to make sense of what it is that makes up a definitive victor (sidenote: notice how this is likewise sort of a burrow at the crowd to the film?

Services No Longer Required
A/N: probably not the kind of smooch you thought you were gonna get with this one, but a smooch nonetheless! This is a one shot with no connection to any other Logan AU or fics I’ve posted. And it ran completely away with itself.
Warning: language, discussion of sexual assault
Word Count: 4,780 (oops)
Prompt: from @gollyderek
Tumblr media
You tried not to roll your eyes as you raised your glass to your lips. It was expensive champagne; you knew because you hated it. You could taste the pretension in the way it flaunted its dryness like no liquid should. Swallowing the whole flute in one go, you sucked air through your teeth to cleanse your palate of the cloying wealth. A server came by, skin tight dress painted onto her mathematically perfect proportions, and you plucked another glass from her tray, trading it with your empty one. The sudden fluctuation in weight distribution on the tray would have made the average attendant spill the remaining refreshments, but she adjusted beautifully. Of course she did.
“Are you enjoying your evening, miss?” the server blinked at you from behind lush lashes, her wide eyes bright, her plump lips open at just the right degree.
You peeled your eyes away from the display you’d been failing to avoid across the room, letting them land heavily on the smiling, overpriced piece of equipment in front of you. One manicured finger tapped against the glass you’d snatched as you considered how to answer her, Logan’s hand sliding slowly over the shoulder of the man whose ear he was whispering into catching the corner of your eye. Not at all, but my job requires me to be here so here the fuck I am. “Yeah, sweetheart, it’s a real blast.” You wondered if these fuckbots spoke sarcasm.
She smiled, her round cheeks shrinking her eyes as her lips drew up into a bow. Wonder if he designed this one. Picked out the tits or the mouth or… You didn’t want to think about what else Logan may or may not have requested on the particular model in front of you. “Well if there’s anything you need,” she gave a little giggle that matched the bubbles in the champagne.
This time you didn’t bother trying to hide your eyeroll. “Yeah. If there’s anything I need, doll, I’ll let you know.” She doesn’t speak sarcasm, but I’m fucking fluent. Her saccharine smile left a sour taste in your mouth. You took another sip of champagne to counter it as she flounced off, not a drop spilled as she swayed through the crowded ballroom, hips and ass trailing behind her, barely concealed beneath the shimmering white fabric. Who even falls for that shit anyway? A quick glance in either direction yielded at least seven pairs of eyes glued hungrily to her curves. You wanted to be surprised, but you’d shared a conference table with some of these men, and so you couldn’t be. Come on, Tom, you’re married for fuck’s sake.
You reluctantly returned your eyes to the far side of the palatial space, and were met with Logan’s, waiting for yours. His eyes were brown, you knew, the color of coffee without cream. But right now, his teeth flashing in a grin before clamping around the earlobe he’d just shared a secret with, they were coal black, embers flickering dangerously in their depths. Logan’s grin curved around the man’s flesh as he maintained eye contact with you. The recipient of the bite let his eyes roll closed and you felt your nostrils flare. Oh, come on Logan, really? You drained the contents of your glass and set it on a credenza as your heels clicked across the marble floor, finally unable to just sit back and watch.
.. .. .. .. .. .. ..
It had been almost six months to the day that you’d met Logan Delos. His family attorney had hired you to help “protect his image” after incriminating photos that hinted at a sex scandal were leaked to the press alongside damaging accusations that had been proven false, but still threatened to mar Logan’s- and by extension, Delos’- reputation. You thought you’d known what to expect when it came to Logan; in fact, you had even gone so far as to argue with your boss about taking him on as a client. But Delos Inc. and its subsidiaries had been using your firm for years.
“They’re one of our oldest and most important clients,” Cynthia, your boss had said in an even tone from behind her coffee mug. “And you’re one of the best we’ve got now.” She looked at you, the power in her green eyes magnified by the black rimmed glasses that were perched high on her nose. You let out a miniscule breath and clenched your jaw. You’d just received a promotion that came with a substantial raise due to the work you’d done on the last case you’d been assigned to- a pop star coming back to a wavering fan base after a stint in rehab- and you knew that Cynthia assigning you to the Delos account meant that she was reinforcing her faith in your ability to represent her firm. “This is the sort of thing you’re going to be handling now,” she told you seriously. “Playboys and pill poppers in the public eye with too much money and a penchant for extraordinary mistakes. That something you can handle?” She set her coffee down on the polished mahogany desk between you, observing every little tick and twitch in the muscles of your cheeks and lips. She’d always been good at reading people, you knew, which was why she’d been able to climb as high as she had in her profession.
You knew it was fruitless to try to hide what you were thinking. You shook your head, resigned to the fact that you’d have to take on the case. “Cyn, just tell me if you think he’s guilty before I get into this, okay? I know what the court verdict was but… what do you think?”
Cynthia flattened her hands on the desk and tilted her head. “I’d never send you into a lie, you know that.” You nodded. Yeah, I know, just… “And I have personally worked with Logan Delos in the past, and I can tell you with 100% certainty that there is no way that he is guilty. He takes his work and his career and his company far too seriously to ever jeopardize it. Is he a sharp tongued asshole who loves to flirt and dives headfirst into excess? Absolutely, so you’ll have your hands full. But under all that…” she looked for a more professional term but came up short, rolling her eyes. “Under all that bullshit, he’s a decent man. Smart, too.” She sighed. “Actually one of the few that I like to work with, because he values a professional opinion.”
“Alright, Cyn,” you smoothed your hair back. Guess this is happening. “When do I leave?”
“Tomorrow morning. You’re on the 9am to Los Angeles.” Cynthia slid a packet of information across the desk to you, your travel itinerary on top. “It’s a six month assignment, so we rented out an apartment for you.” Six months? Damn. The longest assignment you’d had prior to this one had been half that time, and you’d been able to stay in NYC for most of it, only travelling with your client when necessary. You flipped through the file as Cynthia continued speaking. “Because of the circumstances, you’ll have a temporary office within the Delos Inc. building. You’ll be working closely with Mr. Delos and several other entities, and you will be expected to attend all public appearances and events.” Working closely with Mr. Delos? You looked up from the information then, hands frozen midway through flipping the page. Usually you worked behind the scenes, putting out fires before they had a chance to spark. Actually attending events and getting that much face time with your clients was something completely new for you. You recovered, looking back down at the file in your hand, eyes scanning the printed packet and going wide when they landed on the keywords: sexual indiscretion, abuse of power, sexual assault.
It’s not true. You reminded yourself. The accuser was found to be lying, and the whole situation had been fabricated or spun grossly out of control; some assistant claiming that Logan had forced himself on her, holding her career over her head in exchange for sexual favors. You flipped another page in the packet and landed on a profile of Logan’s past relationships- a model, an actor, an heiress, another model, a member of the Russian ballet- none of them were Delos employees. Even without having met him, you knew that the accusation didn't fit his M.O.
Another flip of the pages in your hand uncovered photos that made your breath catch slightly. Oh, damn. Yeah this isn’t a man that has to force himself on...anyone. They were tabloid shots, one of Logan getting out of a gleaming black limo, long legs in perfectly tailored dress pants, one hand in the pocket of his jacket, arm bent at an angle that showed off his trim figure. His nutty brown eyes were warm above the blinding smile he wore, and even though it was just a photo you could tell that he moved with confidence from the stance that he took. The second photo was taken in a restaurant, Logan’s long fingers wrapped around a glass that he was using to gesture with. He was speaking animatedly about something to two men and a woman, his eyebrows raised and his mouth open. All three at the table with him were Delos employees according to the notes that were paperclipped to the photo page, and the female intern pictured was the one who had launched the accusations. The two men present had been called on to share their side of the story, both of them making it clear that they had not witnessed any inappropriate behavior at that dinner or at any other time. Your eyes went back to Logan, to the magnetic way that he drew the attention of those around him. Again, it was just a photo, but you could feel his energy coming through the page in the way that he so comfortably carried himself.
You looked up at Cynthia and found her studying your reactions to the photos. “As you can see, he’s quite the catch.” You cursed yourself for the color you felt rising to your cheeks. “And combined with his net worth, you can see why someone would get the idea into their head that he could be threatened for not giving them what they wanted.” You glanced back down at the pictures, and felt a twinge of sympathy for the overwhelmingly attractive young man in them. “The accusations were dismissed, and the intern has been fired and is being sued for defamation of character, but the connotations of a situation like this stick. Delos is concerned that the public memory of this incident will be that Logan can’t be trusted with female employees.” Cynthia rolled her eyes once more. “No one’s worried about his male employees apparently. Sexist fucking country we live in.” You let out a small laugh. From the list of relationships you’d reviewed, it was clear that Logan spent just as much time with men as he did with women. “So, part of the reason why you will be working so closely with him, is to improve that public memory. Of course you’ll offer advice about how he should behave for the next few months to shake this story, tell him to tone down the flirting and all that. But the other benefit is that you’ll prove that Logan Delos can work with a woman without making an advance on her.”
“Well, since I’m not on billboards or runways I’m not really his type, so that should be no problem.” You closed the information packet and set it on the desk. “Thanks for trusting me with this one, Cyn. I won’t let you down.”
“I know you won’t. And we’ll have weekly conferences so you can let me know what’s going on. I’m always available if you need advice, but,” she stood and you did the same. “I have no doubts that you can handle this one like a pro.” She’d walked you out of her office then, and the next morning your bags were packed and you were boarding a flight out of the cold and into the sunshine.
The first meeting with Logan confirmed what you’d read in those photos- his confidence was off the charts. He was entirely comfortable in any setting, because he was entirely comfortable in his own skin. He knew who he was and he made no apologies for it. He was equally as proud of his business dealings as he was of his three months of sobriety from heroin and painkillers, and as eager to leave the mess of this situation behind him as he seemed to be to show you around the building. At the end of the tour he’d shown you to your office, just two doors down from his own. You thanked him, and set your things down, starting to settle in. You thought he’d left, but when you turned back around he was still standing in the doorway, an almost tentative look crossing his handsome features. That’s different.
“Can I talk to you for a minute? About all this…” he gestured to the briefcase you’d opened on the desk.
You nodded, holding a hand out to indicate that he should go on. “Sure Mr. Delos-”
“You can call me Logan, it’s fine,” he waved you off, pulling the door closed behind him. You made sure to keep the desk between you, as even though the door was shut, the large window allowed anyone passing through the hall to peek in, and you didn’t want any of them getting any ideas about what was going on.
You nodded again. “Okay, Logan. Look, if you’re worried about my qualifications, I can assure you that-”
He cut you off again by holding up one hand, pointer finger extended. “No, that’s not… Delos has been using your firm forever. I trust Cynthia, so I trust you. I’m sure we’re gonna butt heads, but I know you’re gonna do a great job with this fucking mess.”
You cleared your throat as he kept his eyes on you. “Well, I’m glad to hear that Mr. Del- Logan.”
He took a step closer, and that tentative look was still there. When he spoke again, his voice was quieter and you were struck by the seriousness in his eyes. “I want you to know that none of it was true. I didn’t...I’d never do what she said I did.” I know… You had been skeptical only for a few minutes, before Cynthia put your doubts to rest, before you read through the packet, before you met the man in front of you. “This company means...everything to me, so I’d never do anything that would…” he shook his head, a piece of hair falling loose. He swiped it back and out of his eyes. “But more than that, I’d never use my position to manipulate someone… I’ve been on the other end of that...I respect my employees. And I’d never do anything like that to someone I respect...Hell I’d never do anything like that to anyone, respect or not.” He blinked, but you could see how much he wanted you to believe him in those dark chocolate eyes. “Look, I’ve… I’ve been with people who I’ve worked with before, but only after they’d left the company or after their services ended. I’m...careful about it…” he let out a derisive laugh. “Even if that’s the only thing I’m careful about.”
He was showing you a small crack in the confident facade with this honesty, and even though you suspected that he was right- you’d likely butt heads plenty of times over the next few months as you helped him repair the public opinion of him- you found yourself growing angry that someone would throw such damaging lies at someone as honest and sincere as Logan. You gave him a small smile that you hoped was reassuring. “I know, Logan. I believe you fully. It’s despicable, the lengths some people are willing to go to for a little attention. I truly am sorry that this happened to you, and we’re going to do everything we can to make sure that it’s entirely behind you.”
He nodded, hands in his pockets. “Good. Well, I’ll let you get settled. You know where my office is if you need anything.”
You thanked him, and he left the door to your office open as he left, turning down the hall to go to his own office, double the size of yours as it should be. He’s intense… this is going to be quite the assignment… You blew air out through your lips as you sunk into your desk chair, wasting no time in getting to work on a blueprint for this project: Cut back on the flirting in public, show up to any and all press releases to show that he’s more invested in the business than the business interns, strong emphasis on giving back to the community, large donations to foundations that support equality in the workplace, etc.
The six months had passed much more quickly than you would have guessed. The first fundraising event that you’d attended had left you feeling like Cinderella at the ball… combined with a little bit of fairy godmother as you reminded Logan not to get too physical with his date for the event, and that he should make a speech to draw attention to the cause that was being supported. He’d groaned and called you a buzzkill, but he’d done what you’d asked, and that had pretty much set the tone for every interaction. “You’re no fun,” was a commonly used phrase, and he’d taken to introducing you to certain people as his “own personal killjoy”. You rolled your eyes and played along, but you knew that he appreciated the work that you were doing, because he heeded your every suggestion. Your private meetings with him had become less and less daunting as time went on and the two of you got to know one another, allowing for less walking on eggshells and more nitty gritty facts, eventually causing Logan to eye you suspiciously from across your desk one afternoon, and say “Ya know, I think you know more about my personal life than anyone I’ve ever dated.”
You swallowed the coffee you’d just sipped and stared at him. Despite the sometimes cocky way he’d behaved, and the seemingly unquenchable sex drive, you had to admit that you liked Logan. As a person. He happened to be the most physically appealing person you’d ever laid eyes on, but you were learning things about him that you liked, too. “It’s my job to know these things, Logan.” But I’d be lying if I said I didn’t also enjoy it.
“It won’t be your job forever,” he pointed out. “You gonna just forget all that stuff when you leave? File it away in some cabinet somewhere until I make my next big mistake?” There was a mischievous spark in his eye as he asked.
Couldn’t forget you if I wanted to and you know it. You shook your head. “Still have a few weeks here.”
“Too bad,” he muttered, and you couldn’t tell what he meant- too bad that you were leaving soon? Too bad that you’d have to move on to another client? Too bad that you were still an employee and therefore off limits? Don’t be stupid, he can’t be interested in you when he’s got runway models on speed dial.
You cleared your throat. Change the subject. “Let’s talk about the Delos anniversary party. It’s coming up, and it’s the last event I’ll be on for. I’ve outlined some points that I think are important to stick to…” You watched the twitch of his lips as you brought it back to business. Is that...disappointment?
.. .. .. .. .. .. ..
When it was finally time for the anniversary gala, the unofficial end to your contract with Delos Inc. and your time with Logan, you’d felt tense in a way you’d never felt at the end of an assignment before. Everything had gone perfectly, and Cynthia was more than pleased with the updates that you’d been giving her. But the last week leading up to the gala had been the most contentious with Logan. You’d reminded him that he shouldn’t worry about who to bring, that he should focus on celebrating the Delos brand and the success that the company has enjoyed, to which he replied that he wanted you to be his date.
“Logan. That would destroy everything we’ve been working on this whole time.” Is he fucking serious?
“Would just be nice to take someone to one of these things that actually knew me, that gave a fuck about more than my money.” He shrugged. “Can’t tell me you’re not interested.”
Son of a bitch. “Logan.” Of course I’m interested but that would ruin everything for both of us. “Come on, don’t be ridiculous.”
He narrowed his eyes and pressed his lips together. “No. Wouldn’t want to be ridiculous. Alright then, I’ll see you at the party. You can take one of the Hosts as your date if you want.” Hitting the “want” with a little more aggression than necessary, he turned on his heel and exited your office then, leaving you speechless and confused. What the fuck was that about?
For the most part, he’d stuck to the plan for the party. He’d chosen a tried and true date- a model named Raife that he’d been seen with plenty of times and who had never tried to exploit him or use him or do or say anything damaging. He’d made the speech that you’d written, he’d shook all the right hands and refrained from drinking too heavily. He hadn’t occupied the same square foot as you the entire evening, though you’d felt his eyes on you plenty of times, and they seemed pleased that you hadn’t come with anyone- even more pleased at your seeming distaste for the perfection of the Hosts that were present. All in all, he’d been behaving perfectly all night. But now that the party was winding down, getting into its final hour, he seemed hell-bent on raising a red flag. The intimate way he was interacting with Raife finally got your attention, and you’d seen him grin as you set your empty glass down on your way across the room.
You cleared your throat as you came to stand before him, arms crossed over your chest. “Logan, can I have a word with you?”
He remained seated, one arm draped over Raife’s shoulder. Instead of answering you, he nudged his date and turned to him. “See? What’d I tell you? She’s here to yell at me.” He looked up at you, shit eating grin on his face. “Go ahead, then.”
“A private word, please, Logan?” You arched one eyebrow to show that you meant business.
“I am in trouble,” he joked to Raife, who matched Logan’s smile with one of his own. Despite the teasing and the hard time he was obviously trying to give you, Logan stood and followed you out a nearby door into the empty hallway. A clock on the wall showed that it was just minutes to midnight and the end of the event.
“Logan, what the hell do you think you’re doing?” You asked, thoroughly annoyed with him for how he’d been acting ever since you told him that you couldn’t be his date a few days prior. “You’re just throwing everything we worked on away? Why?”
“So it worked?” His eyes flicked up to the clock and then back to you as a smirk grew on his face.
You sighed, utterly exasperated. You liked Logan. You’d come to think of him more as a friend than a client, learning about him, learning how to deal with him- how to deal with him when he was being a shit like he was now. But you also liked Logan, and because of that, you couldn’t wait for this job to be over, to be back in New York and far away from the thing you wanted most but couldn’t have. “What are you talking about? What worked?”
He watched the second hand tick up towards the twelve on the clock before taking a step towards you. “You’re jealous.” He licked his bottom lip, running his tongue along it.
“Jealous? Logan, what-”
Another step. “Raife knows I just needed someone for the night, you know. And technically,” the clock chimed midnight as he pointed to it, eyes firmly on you. “Technically, your services are no longer required here. You don’t work for me or with me or…”
“Logan. You can’t just…” you shook your head. Is he serious? He wanted my attention? Because he… “Logan, we can’t.” I want to, though.
He took one more step until there were only inches between you. He was careful not to touch you, but you felt your skin tingle at the thought that he was close enough to. “Why not?” he asked softly, softer than you’d heard him speak for the entire six months, much softer than the tone he’d taken with you in the past few days. “Why can’t we… I like you...you...you know me…”
I do know you, Logan, I know you too well. “Logan…”
He stood straight and put on his boardroom face, speaking your name in an authoritative tone. “Your services at Delos are no longer required.” He held the face for a few seconds, then let his smirk slide back across his lips. “And as such, I’d like to take you out.”
You swallowed, head spinning. What would Cynthia say? Is this even happening? I can’t, he’s...I mean, he’s...goddamnit. “Logan, I… my career, I… I can’t see my clients, I-”
“I’m not your client anymore. And I don’t plan to need your company’s services ever again...As boring as the last six months have been,” you rolled your eyes and so did he and despite yourself you felt a grin forming. “I’ve learned a lot from you...not just about how to save face, but about how I deserve to be treated and talked to and…”
“You deserve respect, Logan, and happiness and-”
“Then come out with me. Please. No one’s ever treated me like you have and...you didn’t just do what the job required, you bothered to get to know me. You gave a shit about me and not just the bottom line. And I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think you were gorgeous.” He dropped his voice. “And I never lie.”
“Logan, you don’t know how much I want to say yes, it’s just-”
“Then say yes. We don’t have to go out right away, you can go back to New York and then I can-” he shook his head. “I don’t know, I’ll come out there in a few weeks and it won’t be connected to work at all. Just...just say yes.”
You thought it through as much as you could with two glasses of champagne and Logan’s intense stare swirling through your brain. If we wait a while...if I go back home first… if I’m no longer connected to him for work… fuck it. He was over the top and loud and unapologetic. He was magnetic and attractive and you were just as enamoured by his personality as you were by his smile and his eyes. You liked Logan Delos, more than you thought possible when you first heard that you’d be working with him, and he was standing before you telling you the exact same thing. “Yes, Logan.”
His mouth dropped open but he snapped it shut, eyes warming and smile growing. “Yes?”
You laughed and nodded. “Yes. I’ll go out with you. In two weeks. In New York. And Logan?”
“Yeah?” His smile changed the tone of his voice with how genuine it was.
“I never want to work for you again.”
He laughed then, checking both sides of the hall before taking your hand and bringing it to his lips. They lingered on your knuckles and you felt warmth spread from your hand, up your arm and throughout your chest. It was the most chaste kiss he’d ever given anyone, but the way he kept his eyes locked on yours as he let his teeth graze your skin told you that he was capable of much more. “Deal,” he promised as he pulled away, fingertips brushing your palm before letting go of your hand.

Sinking Fate
Chapter One
Chapter Two
Masterpost
Very Basic Summary : A fairly popular photographer known for his more... disturbing photos, is sent an invitation to come to the beaches of Tione, Angeles to possibly bring light to the recent disappearances in the town that no one else seems to bother with, with the locals switching back and forth between the causes, either a mass murderer among them, a siren... or perhaps both? Either way, he accepts, because what could ever go wrong?
Story Warnings : Gore, Death, Drownings, Sympathetic Remus and Logan
Thank you @themelodeeartz for sending in the idea! I’m honestly really excited for it XD I’ll answer the asks with a link to this chapter ^^
No one knew how, not even Remus himself, but he somehow suddenly got really popular.
He was a photographer, that occasionally wrote books. However his photos weren't quite... 'normal' photographs. A lot of people would probably find them horrific. Normally. But something about the way he took photos and described them seem to intrigue people, draw them in, and send them down a spiral of thoughts as they saw more.
Remus' pieces often contained much darker themes. Bones, burnt flesh, death, gore... and much more. Sometimes, a mix of what he photographed. He created collages that told morbid stories or tragic tales, most if not all true ones.
And that seemed to be what drew people in. Lured them to Remus, encouraged him to continue with his art.
And people loved his writing as well, the tales he told seemed so far-fetched, so unrealistic, until you found out he based them on past news reports he found, hidden deep within the web. And then you were reminded that this could happen to you.
But his stories weren't what he was known for, not completely. His photographs were more well-known. He didn't mind.
Remus opened up one of the letters on his desk, reading the neatly written letter. Fanmail, he originally thought it to be. Until he realized it didn't have a return address. A plane ticket slipped out from the pages, and he continued further down, unsure if it was excitement, curiosity, or worry that bubbled in his stomach.
Perhaps it was them all.
Dear Remus King,
You will not have heard of me, of that I am certain. I do hope this letter isn't lost in the undoubtedly large amount of other mail you receive. My name is... well, it doesn't really matter what my name is, it's not important.
Your work has made a lot of people think, and a lot of people worry, and become far more cautious of the world around them. And I've taken note that some of your written works contain a few more fantastical themes, that are illustrated to be a reality. Which, now that I think about it, they very well may be.
If you have the time amongst your own projects, I would greatly appreciate it if you could come to Tione, Angeles (making up a fake place). I think there's a case here you'd greatly love to see, and maybe look to the beaches?
Most are saying it's the handiwork of a siren, but then there are those that just believe mass murder. Every day there are more and more disappearances, leaving a gruesome beach behind. I feel it would fit in well with the theme of your... style, I suppose. And, it might finally draw some attention to our crisis /thank you Tione police for absolutely nothing!/
Whatever your choice, I hope you have a splendid day! And I cannot wait to see your next line of work. If you do decide to see what's been happening, feel free to stay at the hotel of our dwindling town. If you just give them your name, they'll let you stay for free, expenses payed by me! Safe travels!
Oh, and I suppose my name not being known might be bothering you? I suppose you can know what most call me. When you arrive at the hotel and if you need a tour or something, just grab someone off the street and ask for Aki /aka me!/.
Remus regarded the letter carefully.
Disappearances? Caused by a siren? That did definitely catch his interest. But Tione he knew was quite a ways away. But then again... He did have a plane ticket, practically for free.
Remus hummed quietly, placing the letter back on his desk and pulling his laptop closer. If he was to make a decision, he'd need at least some information about this place other than its location.
-
Remus rubbed his eyes, slouching over a notebook he had opened to take down certain notes. His handwriting, which was already quite messy, steadily grew more and more ineligible as the night drew on.
He read articles dating back at least a hundred years ago. That's when the disappearances began, as far as he could tell. With the murder of Taylor Smithings. The rumor about a siren drawing people in only came in around the twentieth murder.
However if he was going there to photograph the beach, he needed to look into the most recent disappearances. So their names and supposed causes of death. Most of the drowning cases were thought to be the work of a siren.
Megan Tannings - Drowning, blunt force to head
Jack Carter - Blood loss, stab-like wounds
Peter Harper - Drowning
Katherine Jake - Drowning or suffocation
Bobby Carson - Hasn't been found
Lilith Carson - Drowning
Tabitha Jenkins - Drowning or suffocation
Zeke Henson - Hasn't been found
Pepper Kord - Hasn't been found
Joanne Larson - Drowning
William Peterson - Unconfirmed
Remus also had various notes of things about sirens, so that he had a basic idea of what he'd be getting into.  How they lured people in, how they came to be. Why they might draw people in to kill them.
The lore surrounding the creatures was simply fascinating.
His phone rang, and Remus groaned quietly, glancing at the clock before picking up his phone. It was far too late for anyone he personally knew to be calling him.
Except maybe Virgil.
"Remus King, wondering who the fuck calls at three in the morning, how may I help you?"
"Remus!" Ah, so it was Virgil. "Have you checked the news at all tonight? There's something you've gotta see!"
Remus groaned again, rubbing his eyes. He felt exhausted. He didn't feel that often.
"Can it wait until later in the morning?"
"Dude!"
"Fine, fine..." Remus grumbled as he turned his computer back on, looking to the news platform he and Virgil often checked. His eyes widened as he leaned in closer to get a better look at the article, his heart suddenly gaining speed.
"Oh my fucking god, Emile?!"
"I know right! A lot of people have already started getting really mad, considering Emile's just a sweet therapist who's helped more people than anybody else. But dude, look further into this, something doesn't feel right about it."
Remus glanced at the envelope on his desk. He bit his lip. "Actually, maybe you can take this one? Emile's a friend and all, but my plans just suddenly got full for the month."
He heard Virgil sigh, could imagine Virgil rubbing the bridge of his nose. "Alright, I get it. I'll do this one. It's horrible that it happened to Emile of all people though."
"I know. Call Remy for me and ask how he's doing? He can't be doing all too good..."
"I know, will do. Mind if I ask what new project you just took up before you go to bed?"
"Something in Tione, Angelas. Night V."
"See ya whenever you get back."
Virgil hung up, and Remus set his phone down, leaning back in his chair. He would've loved to handle this case, but he knew Virgil could handle it, back in their hometown. Poor Emile and Remy though, he thought, slowly getting out of his chair to go to bed.
They deserved better, honestly.
He sighed as he flopped onto bed, burying himself in the mess of sheets, old stuffed animals, and random papers he never had the motivation to clean up.
-
At around 11pm, Remus pulled himself out of bed and started to pack.
