Then he sees his neighbor. His neighbor is the most handsome bear he's ever seen. He's seven feet tall, at the very least, and is broader than a chimney. Steve falls head over ass in love immediately.
And then it turns out his neighbor is literally a bear. Not just a bear, but a real, furry, snarling, honey-stealing bear. Bucky, it turns out, is a werebear.

Hydra has Captain America in their custody, subdued into a medical coma. They have technology that will allow one of their agents to enter Rogers' mind, to perform espionage as Rogers dreams, with the goal of extracting a secret from him dangerous enough that it could topple his entire image. Once they destroy Captain America socially, they plan to replace him with a new role model, one a little more aligned with Hydra's goals, and then have the replacement run for US President. Alexander Pierce can feel victory in his fingers. Once they have that secret, they'll make sure Rogers can't remember the abduction and then release him. Then they'll expose him. Their new world order looms so close, Pierce can smell it.
Pierce himself chose the agent to infiltrate Rogers' dreams. The perfect agent, one recruited especially because Rogers had a weak spot for him. Pierce sent the Winter Soldier into Steve Rogers' dreams.
When the Soldier was pulled from Rogers' dreams to give the mission report, James Buchanan Barnes opened his eyes.

Barnes's co-workers are surprised when Steve Rogers, short and skinny and bespectacled, shows up at the Avengers compound to take him home when he gets injured jumping off of an exploding building.

Barnes leaves his hand where it’s barely touching Steve’s crotch, and Steve isn’t going to let him know, either, that he’s more than completely fine with it. He rests his head against his arm, curled around Barnes's neck, and lets his legs hook over the arm of the chair and turns his disinterested gaze on the ring again. Steve Rogers, who would have rathered stayed dead, cursed them.
In 1945, just a few months after the death of Bucky Barnes, Steve Rogers drove the Valkyrie into the ice without a second thought because it was the end of the line. Not because he was a brave Alpha, but because he was a grieving Omega.

hey guys, i’m trying a little self-promotion, and i’d like to rec my series the same story; told different ways over on ao3 (under moonythejedi394). it’s a collection of different takes on a/b/o stucky, looking into like society and politics and psychology of the a/b/o world. atm there’s a short modern-au, missing in action; presumed dead, and then a lot longer post-WS compliant two-parter, intertwined and edges blurred; the first part of that fic was featured on a touch-starved fic rec a little while ago and that absolutely made my day. i have a few other fics in the works for this series, and it might turn out to have five or six different fics in it. thank you guys for running this blog!

As property, the King of Brooklyn had the right to offer the treasure that was his only child, an insolent boy in the King's mind, to the invading conqueror Barnes as a plea for mercy. Barnes's military outnumbered Joseph's 10-1. Steve was 17, a few months from 18, and even Barnes admitted Joseph was slime for using his child as tribute.
That did not stop Barnes from actually taking Steve. Barnes, as he later admitted, was not a good man, either.
