Earlier today I was thinking about the way that hobbits treat Frodo post-Quest.
The books say that few hobbits know or care to know about Frodo’s adventure, and that is heartbreaking by itself. He suffers all that torment and sacrifices everything out of love for his people, and they react with indifference. And it wouldn’t surprise me if some hobbits treated him with open disdain.
In the first chapter of LOTR, before Frodo himself enters the story, we see hobbits gossiping about Frodo and about his parents’ death. His parents died more than twenty years earlier, but the townsfolk can’t resist speculation that their deaths started with one parent pushing the other into the river. If they use such a tragic event as an opportunity to gossip and cast judgment, then they probably do the same with Frodo’s journey.
I can imagine hobbits staring pointedly at Frodo’s four-fingered hand, gossiping and making false assumptions about what misadventures he faced during his adventure, gossiping about his mysterious illnesses, maybe even whispering about him when he’s in sight and possibly within earshot.
Frodo wasn’t exactly a welcome member of hobbit society before the Quest, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if that gets worse when he comes back so visibly changed.

wrote the first two paragraphs of priory with tolkien’s elvish script. it’s not perfect but I’d like to think I’m improving!
Tumblr media
[ID: the first two paragraphs of the priory of the orange tree written with the tengwar. it reads:
The stranger came out of the sea like a water ghost, barefoot and wearing the scars of his journey. He walked as if drunk through the haze of mist that clung like spidersilk to Seiiki.
The stories of old said water ghosts were doomed to live in silence. That their tongues had shrivelled, along with their skin, and that all that dressed their bones was seaweed. That they would lurk in the shallows, waiting to drag the unwary to the heart of the Abyss.
the ink is black, except for the last word (abyss), which is red. /end ID]

Nolofinweans RPG stats:
A sequel to my Fëanorian RPG stats post. (@outofangband ask and you shall receive)
All Nolofinweans have a high defence bonus against ice damage (except Idril and Maeglin) and high resilience in ice based environments (except Maeglin).
All players are locked out of dialogue options in Alqualondë. Diplomacy malus with Doriathrim interactions.
Fingon: basic HP bar + extra Song bar, functioning as a mana bar for song based attacks. Bonus attack power against Morgoth's forces. Defence malus against balrogs. Bonus diplomatic dialogue options are available with the Fëanorians.
Special Thorondor Summoning action allows the player to call upon the Lord of the Eagles during rescue missions.
Special High King ability allows the player to summon all Noldor in the nearest proximity to help in combat.
Turgon: basic HP bar. High siege defence bonus against Morgoth's forces, but defence malus against balrogs. Diplomacy malus with Fëanorian interactions.
Extra settlement options are available to the player in landscaping mode. Special Dream ability allows the player to easily discover and unlock new areas of the map.
Moving around certain ice based areas of the map will cause unskippable flashback cutscenes (this can be resolved choosing one area of the map to settle into and never ever moving from there).
Special Thorondor Summoning action allows the player to call upon the Lord of the Eagles, but only dialogue options are available.
Special High King ability allows the player to summon all Noldor in the nearest proximity to help in combat.
Aredhel: basic HP bar + special tracker pointer to locate hidden enemies and npcs at all times. Extra dialogue options with the Fëanorians are available to the player.
Some locked areas of the map can be explored by the player but the compass option will not be available.
Low defense against poison damage and pole weapons.
Argon: short HP bar. Attack bonus against orcs, but defence malus against Morgoth's forces. A special Charge attack combo will sacrifice half of the available HPs, leading the player through the enemy's forces killing them in a single strike.
Idril: basic HP bar. High wisdom stat. Bonus diplomatic dialogue optons are available with Vanyarin interactions. High healing bonus if the Elessar is equipped.
Extra secret landscaping options are available to the player.
The player can easily fast travel between Beleriand and Aman if Tuor is equipped or played in the party.
Maeglin: basic HP bar. All self crafted weapons have different and special attack bonuses if equipped in combat. Bonus forging options and abilities are available to the player. The player can create and equip Siege defense bonuses in landscaping mode. Attack bonus if Anguirel is equipped in combat. Defence malus against Morgoth's forces. Low defence stats if the character is positioned upon battlements or city walls.
Extra Sindarin abilities can be unlocked by the player.
Special Treachery ability allows the player to switch sides during combat.
Fingolfin: big HP bar. As HPs get lower ice damage to all enemies increases exponentially. Bonus attack power against Morgoth's forces. Defence malus against Morgoth. Extra speed bonus if Rochallor is equipped in battle.
High charisma stats with Noldorin interactions, but diplomacy malus with Fëanorians. Highest diplomacy bonus. Noldorin interactions unlock extra royalty based dialogue options. The player gets locked out of some dialogue options with Fëanorian interactions, options can be unlocked after a certain amount of visits to Lake Mithrim.
Special High King ability allows the player to summon all Noldor in the nearest proximity to help in combat.
Special Summoning action allows the player to summon enemies on the battlefield or out of Angband. After the Summoning the player can choose to engage the enemy in single combat. Special 7 Hits attack combo is available to the player.

I think one of my favourite things about Haldir is that looking at all the other elves, they’re kiki. Looking at him? He’s a bouba elf.
The other elves are all super skinty with sharp features n shit, and even though I love that too…
When Haldir rocks up with his soft features, a little extra cushioning and the possibility of there being a bit of a tummy and some thick thighs under that armour?
I am a feral creature, crawling through the tv screen to get to Lothlórien. I want him to fold me and not stop until I’m pretzel shaped. I am a man unhinged and I need the thicc elf sat on my face tyvm.

I recently saw a poll in the Frodo Baggins tag asking if Sam could have destroyed the Ring on his own if Frodo died along the way. Currently people are overwhelmingly voting yes, and I’m sorry but that’s just not true.
Sam bears the Ring for about 24 hours. During that time, he puts on the Ring three times. And even if you have only seen the movies, you can tell he does not want to give the Ring back to Frodo - not necessarily out of concern for Frodo’s well-being but because the Ring is already tempting him, already calling to him to keep it for himself.
Also, even if the Ring hadn’t started to take hold of him so quickly, Sam would still succumb in the end, just as every other Ring-bearer succumbs. Even if he made it all the way to Mount Doom, Sauron’s power would still overwhelm him, and he would not be able to resist because nobody could resist.
Sam is a wonderful character, but he is no more immune to the Ring than anyone else. And it shows a poor understanding of the source material if you think that he (or anyone else) could successfully destroy the Ring on their own.
