mike wheeler is one of the best characters ever. he’s complex and realistic. like. i hate when people hate on mike. i hate when people say he’s not the heart. i hate when people say he’s been worse since s3.

even if you’re homophobic and refuse to see how mike is dealing with internalized homophobia and comphet he’s STILL a FANTASTIC character. hes STILL so COOL and WELL DEVELOPED and WELL ACTED. this is going to be a ridiculously long post bc i have so much love for mike wheeler so buckle the fuck up.

mike wheeler who shouts and falls down and acts when he’s dming. mike wheeler who insisted on looking for will, even in the pouring rain, even if it was dangerous. mike wheeler who took in el after finding her in the woods even though he’s more stressed out than he’s ever been. mike wheeler who listened to el when she could barely communicate. mike wheeler who figured out the upside down, a literal alternate dimension, at twelve years old. during the most stressful week of his life. with barely any information. mike wheeler who sobbed on his bike after seeing his friends dead body. mike wheeler who makes lucas and dustin and el look for will, when everyone else thought he was dead. mike wheeler who refuses to apologize to lucas over an argument. mike wheeler who insists that they’re all his best friend. mike wheeler who pushed troy down, in front of the entire school, knowing he’d be beaten up for it. mike wheeler who jumped off a cliff to certain death to save dustin from bullies. mike wheeler who yelled and kicked and shouted when the bad men tried to take el away. mike wheeler who was willing to give el his family and his bedroom and his life after a few days of knowing her. mike wheeler who stayed awake for hours in the hospital until he knew will was okay. mike wheeler who looked government officials in the eye and said he would never tell them where el is.

mike wheeler who called el every night for 363 days. mike wheeler who steals nancy’s money and shows up to the arcade late. mike wheeler who notices immediately when something is wrong with will. mike wheeler who graffitied the bathroom stall and plagiarized an essay and argued at the dinner table. mike wheeler who was the only person that will felt understood by. mike wheeler who hates max because he doesn’t want more people in the party, because she reminds him of el, because she reminds him of him. mike wheeler who is so angry about being the same ghostbuster as lucas. and when he has to get rid of his toys. and when max comes trick or treating. mike wheeler who knows something is wrong with will. who notices when his best friend is quieter than usual. who calls his house when he doesn’t show up to school. who goes to his house when no one answers the phone. mike wheeler who organizes the search for dart. who makes the plans. mike wheeler who doesn’t take joyce’s “nows not a good time” for an answer. mike wheeler who refuses to leave wills side. mike wheeler who sleeps on the floor of wills bedroom. mike wheeler who makes his best friend feel like a super spy instead of a problem. mike wheeler who has to watch his best friend scream and convulse in pain. who looks so heartbroken to see it. mike wheeler who sleeps by his hospital bed. mike wheeler who realizes that it’s a trap before anyone else can. mike wheeler who tries to forcibly throw himself through the guards to let everyone know they’re in danger. mike wheeler who suggests putting will to sleep. mike wheeler who drags an unconscious will out the doors of the lab so hopper can help joyce. mike wheeler who somehow finds time to be angry with max for existing. mike wheeler who has the idea about tying will up in the shed. mike wheeler who pours his heart out to his best friend, possessed and tied down, in an attempt to save him. mike wheeler who picks up a candle stick to protect himself, like a dork. mike wheeler who looks so so so relieved when el walks through the door. mike wheeler who screams at and hits and cries into hopper. mike wheeler who reminds everyone that will is in danger when closing the gate. mike wheeler who watches his best friend and the person he just got back drive away to danger and possible death and decides he HAS to do something about it. mike wheeler who stands, shocked, when billy is beating up steve. mike wheeler who gains so much respect for max. mike wheeler that trips and falls in the tunnels. mike wheeler who sees the demodogs leaving and is immediately concerned for el. mike wheeler who refuses to smile in photos. who makes fun of dustin’s hair at the snow ball. who encourages will to dance with a girl in the most dorky way possible. who sulks and pouts. who dances with el and says they can learn how to dance together.

mike wheeler who is throwing himself head first into a relationship. mike wheeler who dings the bell at scoops ahoy with the most bratty look on his face. mike wheeler who sneaks into the movies. mike wheeler who notices immediately (AGAIN) when something is wrong with will. mike wheeler who throws a surprise party for dustin’s return but looks so bored when dustin is showing him all his cool science stuff. who is just as “you have a girlfriend??” as everyone else but then obnoxiously makes a show of leaving with el. mike wheeler who pisses off hopper so much. mike wheeler who whispers in el’s ear and makes snarky comments and giggles when hopper is trying to talk to them. mike wheeler who calls hopper a piece of shit for lying and then tries to walk back into his house. who listens in terrified silence when hopper threatens him. mike wheeler who lies to el because he feels like he has to. mike wheeler who calls lucas and will because he doesn’t know how to fix his own relationship problems. mike wheeler who doesn’t know how to balance being in a relationship and being him and having friends. mike wheeler who gets broken up with and laments about it on the couch. mike wheeler who lets out a gnarly burp. mike wheeler who makes a big show of not being interested in dnd. mike wheeler who begs will not to leave when he finally gets pissed off. mike wheeler who says some mean homophobic shit because he got angry. mike wheeler who sees he hurt wills feelings and immediately apologizes and tries to make it better. mike wheeler who bikes across town in the down pour to apologize. mike wheeler who learns about will being in danger again and immediately makes a plan. mike wheeler who calls the girls and makes them join. mike wheeler who directs everyone to listen to will and then they do. mike wheeler who comes up with the sauna test plan. mike wheeler who makes dumb jokes about the dummy in the pool shed. mike wheeler who says “conspiring” like 10 million times in one episode. mike wheeler who notices (AGAIN) when something is wrong with will. mike wheeler who tells max to step away from the door before anyone else realizes something is wrong. mike wheeler who hits billy with a pipe to get him off of el. mike wheeler who holds el after she collapses from exhaustion. mike wheeler who doesn’t understand when to apologize to el so lucas has to tell him. mike wheeler who declares because i love her and i can’t lose her again in front of everyone he knows but can’t say “love makes you crazy” to her face. mike wheeler who is so so concerned that el might be using her powers too much. that’s she’s putting herself in danger. that she might feel obligated to do things she doesn’t have to. mike wheeler who does apologize to el. who tells her she should be her own person. mike wheeler who hears dustin’s code red and, even though he doesn’t look like he’s in danger, insists they find and help him. mike wheeler who argues with lucas about new coke. mike wheeler who finds time to say “they’re conspiring against me!” (again) in the most serious situation. mike wheeler who calls and calls and calls on the radio to reach the scoops troop. mike wheeler who helps el stumble out of the mall. mike wheeler who stands between el and billy and gets knocked out of the way like a fly. mike wheeler who wakes up from being unconscious and immediately finds el. holds her while she cries. mike wheeler who is so happy when will doesn’t want to join another party. mike wheeler who tries to comfort el about her lost powers. mike wheeler who says he’s going to steal cerebro all of the time. mike wheeler who sobs into his moms arms because the byers and el are moving.

mike wheeler who wastes too much time reading el’s later before school that he’s late. who’s snarky to his parents. who protests curfew. who rolls his eyes at sweetie pie. mike wheeler who is playing dnd again and growing his hair out and wearing converse and black skinny jeans. mike wheeler who feels so (stupidly) betrayed when lucas chooses basketball over dnd. mike wheeler with a c- in spanish. mike wheeler who barges into the newspaper room way too loudly. who says that’s just bullshit media propaganda. who runs after dustin to the middle school in the middle of the day. mike wheeler who once again is yelling and reacting and acting at dnd. mike wheeler who wears the stupidest outfit to california. mike wheeler who picks flowers in hawkins to bring to el. mike wheeler who’s so painfully awkward around will. mike wheeler who can’t pick up on el not being friends with angela but as soon as wills tells him about it he runs to the dj and demands that they turn the song off. mike wheeler who runs to the skate floor to help el but she leaves. mike wheeler who gets mad at will for lying to him, even when it was el who was lying to him. mike wheeler who is so shocked when el hits angela even though he’s literally seen her kill people. mike wheeler who is a little shit at dinner and makes everything worse. mike wheeler who makes el her favorite food and tries to talk about it and apologizes. who remembers to leave her door 3 inches open and tries to relate to her and tries to not be mad about her lying. mike wheeler who can’t say he loves her, even with her crying in front of him. mike wheeler who chases the cop car and promises to fix this. mike wheeler who apologizes to will in the best way. who says they should be a team. friends. best friends. mike wheeler who still doesn’t know how to fix his relationship so he keeps turning to will for advice. mike wheeler who holds a government agent as he dies in his arms. mike wheeler who is 14 and burying a body in the desert. mike wheeler who keeps saying if she would’ve taken me with her because he wants to be there. to help. to try and protect el. mike wheeler who figures out the number for nina. mike wheeler who figures out they’re calling a computer. mike wheeler who directs them to suzie. mike wheeler who tries not to curse in their house because he knows they’re religious. mike wheeler who doesn’t understand wills love confession but looks at him like he’s the goddamn sun. mike wheeler who spots el right away in the desert, shaved head and far away and all. mike wheeler who says i’m here, we’re all here. mike wheeler who makes el laugh in the pizza place even in the most serious of situations. mike wheeler with his stupid pizza glasses. mike wheeler with his distaste for pineapple pizza. mike wheeler who pulls el out of the water but has to be told to keep talking to her. mike wheeler who finally says i love you but it’s all wrong because she’s dying and she can’t respond and he’s scared and now he can’t stop saying it and you just have to fight el, fight. mike wheeler who will opens up to about the mindflayer. mike wheeler who stands next to his best friend and watches as the world caves in.

anyway. mike wheeler is the heart and anyone who says otherwise is wrong.

Buck NEEDS Trauma Processing, Stat!

Because of Buck’s really surprising 516 discussion of his 218 leg injury and early s3 blood clots etc, the impact of the shooting and hostage situation on Buck have been on my mind A LOT lately. The floodgates are opening for him…wider than before apparently. We’ve known for a while that Buck needs to process the traumas he’s experienced but his graphic overshare with a patient on a rescue (combined with Eddie’s overwhelm & plea for Buck to stop!) really drove that point home for me.

I can’t stop thinking about Buck’s various reactions to Eddie being shot in 414. Buck was shook to his core!

We only have 2 more eps left in s5 and we have still only gotten honorable mentions of the shooting, but no actual discussion of either of their specific feelings about it! Both men are still incredibly reticent to get into. There are a host of character and narrative reasons why I guess, but if the silence around it was loud at the start of s5 then it’s deafening now in the 11th hour!

Eddie’s run in with the well back in s3 affected Buck but the show didn’t really show us much of the impact beyond the episode in which it happened. The shooting was different. We have gotten tidbits of quiet reactions from Buck that I think are specifically related to the shooting (and of course is pinging things that came before and after).

In 502 when Eddie talks about the panic attacks, Buck suggests that it could be about the shooting and Eddie dismisses that. I couldn’t find the exact gif I wanted but Buck looked away like he needed to hide the fact that the shooting did indeed still affect him, even if Eddie claimed to be fine. It was like he was in a low-key version of “stow it away and save the next one” mode where Eddie was the next one in that case because of the panic attacks.

Then in 506 Buck is worried out of his mind about Eddie again. He spends the whole ambulance ride staring at Mitchell’s gun and then just waiting in the hospital for Eddie to make it out of the deadly situation alive. While he’s waiting he looked terrified most of the time but also like a man who was reminded of the shooting and his terror in that situation too. But he swallows it.

Eddie of course has a TON going on this season. I think Eddie is working his way up to talking about the shooting and hostage situation with Buck if Eddie’s conversation with Carla in 510 and his therapy session in 513 with Frank are any indication. Eddie’s going through a slow, measured, therapist-guided ascent from the depths of his pain. He’ll get to the shooting (and by extension the hostage situation) eventually I think but he’s not ready quite yet. There’s an order of operations and he’s working the problem.

Buck seems different. He’s stowed it away. Maybe he’s avoiding the hard topic for his own sake, or waiting for Eddie to be ready to process it with him, or both. Either way, Buck does seem personally invested in pretending like he’s fine. I mean - the man did say sometimes “I hide my true feelings from others” at the start of s4. He was leveled by the shooting in ways I don’t think he can quite put into words yet. On top of that, it’s like if he can’t start the conversation in terms of Eddie’s well-being first and foremost (rather than his own) then it’s not worth bringing up.

Buck mentioned the shooting in 514 but it was just a mention and expressly for the purpose of helping Eddie to see that he’d given Charlie a second chance. Even when Buck raised the issue of the shooting in a practical and focused way, he broke eye contact for a second and ducked his head way down in what seemed like intentionally non-threatening (and maybe guilty?) body language. It stood out to me because Buck is tall and takes up space but he seemed to be working hard not to in that moment. Like he wanted Eddie to know without a doubt that this wasn’t Buck’s time to feel his feelings about the shooting, but Eddie’s time to gain some healing perspective.

I would imagine that Buck still harbors feelings of fear, shame, and guilt over the shooting and then the hostage situation compounded that because he had to leave Eddie with Mitchell. I don’t think he feels like he’s allowed to be wrecked too over how afraid he was and how helpless he felt and over almost losing someone who means so damn much to him.

Even in 516 when Buck was worried about Bobby after the dispatch ceiling collapse, later at the hospital, something about the way Buck looked at Eddie while everyone was talking about Bobby how luck Bobby was made me think that conversation was probably talking about both Bobby and Eddie being lucky to be alive! Like Buck was taking that moment to acknowledge/celebrate Bobby’s new lease on life and bask in Eddie’s too!

All the moments above where it looked like Buck was actively swallowing or hiding his feelings for Eddie’s sake, they all stood out for me because I think that pattern of Buck pretending with Eddie has to break this season, just like Eddie’s pattern had to break with Buck.

I wonder if the Buck issue that some folks been predicted at the Henren vow renewal (thanks @stagefoureddiediaz & bts pics of white-shirt clad Buck!) will have something to do with Buck’s emotional dam breaking down and his trauma being forced to the surface! Perhaps a trigger event like cocktail sauce all over his perfect white shirt ?!?!?! Bonus points if Eddie causes this or sees this happen and has to whisk Buck away due to dissociation or a panic attack!

The last thing I want is for the Henren vow renewal to be highjacked by Buck’s feelings but I think there are some creative ways to have a moment where something happens with Buck and they have to at least broach the fact that there are unresolved shooting issues/feelings for Buck too, not just Eddie.

Post S3 Billy survives somehow and going to back to school wasn’t something he thought he could do. Not with the constant nightmares he has of everything that happened when the mindflayer was in him. Has nightmares of it coming back for him. He’d wake up screaming and then take a beating from Neil if he wasn’t too tired. But that wasn’t the worst of it. It was during the day where Billy would suddenly look down at his hands and they’d be covered in blood. Or when he’d see Heather from the corner of his eye while he is in school. Or when he suddenly couldn’t breathe anymore. His vision would go blurry, his chest would hurt and he’d be gasping for air. All of it was just too much for him, he couldn’t continue living like this.

“I need some shit that,” Billy shifts on his feet awkwardly. Billy had stopped sleeping to escape the nightmares,but the tiredness got to him. He caught himself washing away the blood from his hand that wasn’t actually there. “Shit that makes-“ the nightmares stop, the delusions stop. “That-fuck.”

Eddie watched Billy struggle with a raised brow. This wasn’t the Billy Hargrove he had come to known. The Billy Hargrove he had known was in the basketball team. Went to parties. Was loud and able to get everyone’s attention once he enters the room. From what he saw in school, Billy cowered away from crowds, stuck to himself if he wasn’t with his red headed sister, quit basketball, quit going to parties and always looked on the edge in his oversized clothes. He watches the way the blonde’s hands shake even when Billy looked warm with the amount of layers he is wearing.

“Something that calms you down?” Eddie suggests. Billy twitches.

“Yeah,” Billy then looks away. “So you…you got something?” Eddie stares at Billy some more. He heard how Billy couldn’t speak when he woke up, how Billy couldn’t walk and how Max went to see him everyday in the hospital. He got all that from listening to the 3 new talkative D&D club members. He now notices more than the dark circles under his eyes and the bruises cheek, Eddie notices the look in his eyes. Distant and nervous…no, not nervous. It’s paranoia.

“Yeah I do.” Eddie hums tapping the table lightly. “You want someone to smoke with?”

Billy stares at Eddie like he had misheard him. Then he looks away again. “Will it…will it be on…the house?”

This makes Eddie chuckle, shaking his head. “Only this one time though, Hargrove, only this one time.” This would not be the only time.

a brain dump for nini's scream verse is below the cut. spoilers are very present but this is also severely canon divergent when it comes to a plot point in the movie. i do not suggest reading this if you have not seen the movie yet. this will also spoil season three of the scream tv show.

the beth and kirby mentioned in this brain dump are specifically the beth and kirby that i write at @maskedsocio and @wylmn respectively

okay so for this verse, nini is kirby's cousin. biologically at least, but until she was 18 and met her dad officially, she didn't know. so she decided that even though her dad wasnt really up to being her dad, she wanted to know his family, bc theyre her family, too, and if he's not against her telling his family that she's his daughter, then she's gonna try to forge those relationships bc family is important to her and hers was always so small, so.

kirby, having been in atlanta, invited nini to come stay with her for a month or so that summer after senior year and nini was so excited. she'd heard about kirby before. woodsboro was a bit far from salt lake city, of course, but she'd heard the stories. she was actually a little stunned when she learned she was related to kirby reed.

so, nini is hanging around atlanta for a couple months, and she meets a girl named beth, who kirby introduces her to. they're not that close in age, there's like... a 3/4 year difference. so basically the sam/kirby age gap (which i think has been retconned a little bit bc its been a year and now theyre saying sam is 26 but she was only only like 22-24 in the last movie, but i digress)

anyway so nini and beth kinda hit it off and then after the summer, nini heads off to nyu. since her ties arent to the scream 5 kiddos im not sending her to blackmore tbh. specifically, she's enrolled at tisch and will be pursuing drama as undergrad before pursuing a cinema studies degree as a grad student. nini doesnt really think anything of beth and goes about her life.

so here's a little canon divergence: beth should def have been dead for like 4 years at this point so im converging the scream s3 timeline w/ the scream 5/6 timelines to make this all work. therefore, after nini leaves to head to school in new york, beth commits her murders, and is "killed" (i still dont believe this and had hoped they were gonna ref her in the movie but... its fine)

so basically, some more divergence, the whole time, kirby was actually beth's mentor. while she was in the fbi, she was also connecting with beth after she was fired and declared mentally unstable (because i will be going that route for these portrayals) so nini is kinda blissfully unaware of this and they write off the atlanta murders as a copycat who was just really into the stab franchise and the true crime story of woodsboro. kirby being in the fbi benefits her because she can cover up any trace of her involvement with beth and she's one of the police officers on the scene when beth is declared "dead" (she's taken to a mental hospital where she will be for a while) but kirby decides to follow nini to nyu and start enacting her own requel/spinoff bc why not??

kirby has snapped and she's ready to avenge charlie, who she kinda sees as her guardian angel. she's definitely romanticizing the guy who killed/almost killed her and in her delusional state, she has convinced herself that they were supposed to die together, but now that she's alive, she should be continuing the legacy.

nini, for her part, is blissfully ignorant about beth's murders and kirby doesn't mention it on the phone. but when the murders begin anew in nyu and kirby comes on the scene pretending to be with the fbi, nini is happy to have her cousin back in town. she gets to know the core four + friends this way and kinda worms her way into their circle. of course, they like her, but they dont necessarily trust her, and like... of course they shouldn't, that's just good logic.

but nini is just happy to hang out with some people her own age who have a connection to kirby. and kirby doesn't let nini in on her little murderous secret, so nini gets attacked at some point and "left for dead", but also kirby calls in the attack bc thats still nini and she's no jill roberts she's not gonna leave her family to bleed out and die.

kirby does survive and there's a showdown bc the kirsch family are still involved, but she frames them all for all the murder so that she doesn't get arrested or sent to a psychiatric facility of her own like beth. but she has plans... she's kinda growing her own little online group of ghostfaces around the world to start a reign of terror. meanwhile nini really has no clue but she's def be emerging as the sidney prescott of this verse when she does realize what's going on and steps up to the plate.

so. post s3 angst. we're just gonna pretend i didn't already write most of this shit out in the tags earlier because tumblr wouldn't let me post ALL my thoughts

billy living in hop's old trailer, out in the middle of nowhere by himself. joyce suggested it. the place was just sitting out there empty, and max went and blabbed their business to everyone when owens started talking about billy going home soon. his doctors decided the fresh air would be good for him.

it isn't. he hates it. it's too quiet, and too loud in all the wrong ways. every tree branch waving in the dark sets off alarm bells in his head. he can't sleep, not with the constant creeping feeling that he's being watched, and the sounds of animals skittering around in the woods.

he spills it all to steve, who's been unsubtly fishing for weeks, talking about his own nightmares with pointed looks and expectant eyebrows. it only works because it's steve.

long story short, steve gives the bat to billy. it's gotten him through a lot of shit. toting it around in his trunk after that first demogorgon made him feel safe. he figures billy went through so much more than he did in his first run-in with the upside-down, he could use that sense of security.

and it works. sort of. billy keeps it close. feels good to have something to grab when he hears weird noises in the night. feels better knowing he has it because steve wanted him to feel safe.

but it's barely a bandaid. he still has nightmares. he's still only able to get behind the wheel of a car without breaking down about fifty percent of the time.

the camaro is a wreck. sitting on the edge of the driveway, grass growing up around the wheels. it's got a cover on it, but looking at it still freaks him out. he's been driving an old beater he bought with his goverment hush money because the first time he sat in the camaro after getting out of the hospital he had a full-on breakdown and was bedridden for three days.

but he keeps it around. it's a relic of his old life. it's something he used to be proud of. or maybe he just likes torturing himself. looking at it every day and being reminded of everything the mind flayer made him do. shoving heather in the trunk. full-tilt speeding across the starcourt parking lot intending to crash right into nancy wheeler, and the car full of kids behind her.

some days it's worse that just uncomfortable to look at. some days it haunts him.

and one day he has enough. it's all too much. he can't sleep here, but he can't fucking leave, he's exhausted and wide-awake, hyper aware and out of focus, hazy. agitated. the cold weather is making his scars ache, his lungs burn, his knuckles protest when he grips the bat hard enough that his fingers go numb.

and he snaps. loses his shit. tears the cover off his car and smashes all the windows.

steve comes over later that day, and there's broken glass glittering in the driveway. the nail bat is lodged in the hood of the camaro, handle up, a sizable dent where it made impact. it's hard to tell what damage was there before, but it definitely looks worse than it did when he helped max get the thing out of impound.

he finds billy inside, washing blood off his hands. and he doesn't ask. he just helps billy clean up. he makes a mess with the tape and gauze but billy doesn't seem to mind sitting there and letting him work, so he keeps at it.

a few hours later they both fall asleep on the couch, nail bat laying on the coffee table and a grainy infomercial prattling in the background.

"It's been hours! You have to know something!"

"It's been forty minutes since you arrived and-"

"I DON'T CARE! THAT IS MY SISTER IN THERE! And if you don't tell me an update I'm going to sue you! Not this hospital! I am going to sue you personally-"

"Ma'am, you need to calm down-"

"That is detective to you!"

You ignored the calls towards you. JJ was the first one to try and get your attention as she walked over to you with Hotch and Reid. They were all looking at you as if they had just seen a ghost. JJ was the first one to approach you and tried again, but failed.

"It has been at least over an hour!"

Then Hotch tried, in a more demanding tone but you still ignored it.

"If you don't tell me any updates I swear-!"

It wasn’t until you finally heard Spencer call your name, softly placing his hand on yours, trying to not upset you any further. You finally turned to look at the three of them, realizing for the first time that they were next to you. You looked at JJ, then Hotch, and finally, Spencer.

"They won't tell me anything" you said, angrily. "She's been in there forever and they won't say anything!" you started raising your voice.

"It's okay" JJ assured you. "Why don't you go with Spencer and you can change your clothes?" she said, looking at the blood all over you.

"But P-Pen-"

"There's not much more we can do for now" Hotch said. "Go with Reid, okay?"

You sighed, nodding, knowing it was more of an order than a suggestion.

"Come on" Spencer said, gabbing your hand but you quickly pulled away.

"I don't want to get blood on you" you muttered. Spencer noticed your tone going softer and he smiled slightly.

"It's fine" he said, grabbing it again.

He walked with you to the nearest bathroom and waited outside for you to change. You walked out in BAU clothes and looked up at Spencer. He felt his heart breaking when he noticed how lost your look seemed. He could tell you tried really hard to wash the blood off you but he could still see traces of it in your hands and your arms.

"I'm c-cold" you muttered. Spencer quickly took his sweater off and put it on you. "Thanks" you whispered. Spencer knew this was bad. You would normally argue with him for a couple of minutes before accepting his sweater.

The two of you walked in silence back to the waiting room where Emily and Rossi had joined the other two.

"Where's Morgan?" Spencer asked Hotchner.

"He's not answering his phone" JJ told him.

"You okay, kid?" Rossi asked and you only nodded.

"What happened?" Emily dared to ask what everyone was dying to. You opened your mouth to say something but, nothing came out.

"You don't have to tell us right now" Hotch insisted and you smiled gratefully at him.

"What the hell happened?!" everyone turned around to see Morgan practically stomping his way to them.

"She's still in surgery-" JJ started, trying to calm him down, but he walked past JJ and made his way towards you.

"What the hell happened!?"

"You need to stay calmed" Spencer said, stepping protectively in front of you.

"Don't tell me what to be!" Morgan snapped before he looked back at you. "I know you were there so, what the fuck happened?"

"Morgan!" Hotch warned him.

"I don't know" you said in a small voice.

"You don't know?" Derek raised his voice again.

"N-no-"

"HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW IF YOU WERE THERE? HOW COULD YOU LET THIS HAPPEN?!"

"MORGAN!" Spencer said, fuming.

"ANSWER ME!"

"I DON'T KNOW, DEREK!" you snapped. "I w-was waiting for Pen to come back from her d-date! She told me I should wait up! A-and when she was being dropped off, I heard a gun- gunshot!" you yelled. "I ran outside and tried to look for the person who shot her but I c-couldn't find anyone!" you said, with your eyes welling up. "And then I came b-back to her and she was-" you sobbed, with tears escaping your eyes. "She was b-bleeding!" you continued. "She was bleeding so m-much and so I tried to make it s-stop" you said, breaking down.

"It’s okay" Spencer said, pulling you towards him.

"It wouldn't stop, S-Spence!" you said, looking at him and breaking everyone's heart. They all knew what you were feeling right now and they knew nothing they said would change your mind. "I tried! I really did" you said, looking back at Derek. "I'm so sorry!"

"You, come with me!" Hotchner said, pulling Derek with him.

"I'll see if they have an update" JJ said, walking away as well.

"Why don't we get some coffee for everyone?" Rossi said, pulling Emily with him and leaving you and Spencer alone, knowing if anyone would be able to calm you down, it would be him.

"I'm so sorry, Spencer" you said, as more tears kept coming down.

"No, this is not your fault" he said, softly. He felt his heart breaking with each tear that fell down your cheeks. In the time the team had known you, they had never seen you cry. Ever.

"B-but I could have done something more! I could have-"

"You did everything you could" Spencer assured you. "And Penelope is going to be okay" he tried to convince you. You nodded slightly as Spencer wiped away the remaining tears from your cheeks.

"Okay" you whispered.

After a couple of minutes, JJ came back, still without any news, and Rossi and Emily brought back coffee for everyone. JJ and Emily were sitting together on the chairs, Hotch and Rossi were still trying to get information on the case, Derek was sitting away from the group in complete silence, and you sat on the floor, with your back against the wall, gripping your cup tightly. Spencer soon joined you when he realized you were still crying.

"Hey-"

"I can't stop" you muttered.

"I'm sorry?"

"I can't stop crying" you said, hitting your head lightly with the wall. "I keep replaying it in my mind" you explained. "I've heard gunshots thousands of times but, I can't stop hearing it" you told him, your hands trembling and he saw you were trying really hard to make them stop. "I keep seeing her lying on the floor- there was so much b-blood-" you said before breaking down again.

"Come here" he said, pulling you onto his lap. What surprised him, even more, was the way you automatically clung yourself onto him as tightly as you could.

"I can't lose her, Spence" you said, sobbing into his shoulder.

"You won't" he said, stroking your back softly with his hand. "It's going to be alright" he whispered, letting you cry on his shoulder and resting his head against yours.

"Are you seeing what I'm seeing?" Emily said, nudging JJ on her arm.

"I can't help but" she said, both of them with a bright smile on their faces, forgetting where they were. "They look adorable" she whispered.

"I have no idea how he managed to calm her down. I thought she was going to break down when Derek yelled at her" Emily said, still looking at the pair.

"I believe you owe me $50" David said to Hotch.

"That means nothing" Hotch insisted. "They've always been this close-"

"Oh, come on, Hotch! You need to admit defeat!"

"Agent Hotchner?" the doctor said, coming towards the group. Everyone stood up as quickly as they could. You never let go of Spencer's hand.

"The bullet went in her chest and ricocheted into her abdomen" he said and Spencer felt you tighten the squeeze on his hand. "She lost a lot of blood. It was touch-and-go for a while, but we were able to repair the injuries" he explained.

"So what are you saying?" JJ asked.

"One centimeter over and it would have torn right through her heart" he said as the entire group let out a sigh of relief simultaneously, "Instead, she could actually walk out of here in a couple of days. And I'd say that's a minor miracle" he explained. "Who rode in with her?"

"M-me" you said, nervously.

"Good job, kid" he said. "If it wasn't for you, she probably wouldn't have made it here" he explained. "She needs her rest but you can all see her in a while when she wakes up" he said.

"Thank you, doctor" Aaron said as he left, and then he turned back to the team.

"I don't care about protocol. I don't care whether we're working this officially or not. We don't touch any new cases until we find out who did this" he ordered. "David and I will go to the scene. I think the rest of you should be here when she wakes up" he instructed.

"Sir, I can go with you-" you started.

"After she wakes up" he said. "Reid will drive you" he said and Spencer nodded.

"Yes, sir."

"She's up" JJ said after about thirty more minutes. "And asking for you" she said, looking your way. "Let's go" she told everyone and Morgan didn't need to be told twice. But you stood frozen in place.

"You okay?" Emily asked, looking at you.

"I can't go in there" you muttered.

"But she's asking for you" she tried to convince you.

"N-no" you said, nervously.

"Hey" Spencer said, grabbing your hand again. "Penelope wants to see you, And she's okay. She's awake and she's fine" he assured you.

"And it's thanks to you" Emily insisted.

"Y-you guys go" you said, trying to keep fresh tears from falling. "I just need a minute" you said. Emily walked towards the room, but Spencer stayed with you. "Please, Spence" you whispered. "I just need a minute" you insisted. Spencer nodded and kissed your temple before he walked into the room.

You stood by the door only hearing what they were talking about and Penelope asking everyone not to cry. You knew she would ask that which is why you couldn't go inside since apparently, you couldn't stop. She gave her report to the team and you felt sick to your stomach when you realized Penelope's date was the one who shot her. Emily and JJ came out after a while and JJ looked at you.

"She keeps asking for you" JJ insisted.

"You should go in there" Emily added.

"She asked us not to treat her like a victim" JJ warned. "This just doesn't make any sense" she said as the three of you tried to make sense of it all.

"I know, why would someone do this to Garcia?"

"I'm gonna call Hotch and tell him the updates" JJ said.

"I'll come with you" Emily told her. "You have to go in there before you go meet Hotch" she reminded you and you nodded.

You went back to look at the room where Derek and Spencer still stood, chatting with a still fuzzy Penelope.

"Good news, bad news" you heard Penelope's foggy voice. "The morphine's wearing off" she continued. "When I was in the ambulance, I could hear the song Heroes playing in my head" she giggled. "I kept flashing in and out of consciousness. Everything was really bright. And I remember thinking wait... Is David Bowie really God?" she asked making everyone in the room laugh.

"He is" you said, entering the room and making her laugh again.

"There she is, my sweet love" she said, reaching her hand out for you. "My knight in shining armor" she giggled.

"Hi, Penny Lane" you said, smiling as tears fell down your cheeks.

"I always knew you would one day save my life" she smiled brightly at you.

"I always told you I was better than these two" you replied, earning glances from Spencer and Derek.

"Hey!"

"Shut up! She is!" Penelope told them.

"I am so sorry, Pen-"

"No" Penelope interrupted you. "You saved my life" she told you. "You don't ever need to say sorry for anything ever! Not even to them! You have my absolute permission to do whatever you want to them and not apologize" she said earning the glare from the guys now.

"Hey!"

"I love you, my little sugar plum" she smiled at you.

"I love you too, Pen" you said, holding her hand. "And I promise you, we're going to find this asshole" you assured her.

After a while, they let her rest and Spencer was going to take you to meet Hotch and Rossi, but Derek held you back. With a warning glare from Reid, he pulled you away from him.

"Hey, kid-" he said, softly.

"It's okay, Derek" you smiled weakly at him.

"No. Is not" he insisted. "I had no right to speak to you the way I did and I'm sorry" he said. "I was just..." he sighed, looking back at Penelope.

"I know" you smiled, placing your hand on his arm. "I was too" you nodded before wrapping your arms around his waist and Derek hesitantly wrapped his around your shoulders.

"I'm sorry, kid" he said with his voice breaking a little.

"I'm sorry too" you whispered.

"Hey" Derek said, pulling away and placing his hands around your face, wiping away your tears. "You have nothing to be sorry for. You saved her life" he reminded you. "Okay?" You nodded, trying your best to stop the tears from falling and Derek kissed your forehead. "Now let's go before pretty boy wants to kill me again" he said, making you laugh. "Don't think I didn't notice you two being all cuddly on the waiting room" he said, placing his arm around your shoulders and leading you back to the hallway.

"Shut up. We have an asshole to catch" you reminded him.

"I know. And I will kill him once we do. And then, we can go back to you and Reid making romantic faces at each other-"

"Shut up, Derek!"

"I'm up!" you said, sitting up from the dining room table at the apartment you shared with Penelope. "What? What did I miss?"

"I said, you should get some sleep" Spencer repeated with a small chuckle.

It was the night Penelope came back home. The team had left for the night and Derek was helping Penelope get settled in. He hadn't left her side since the accident and Spencer hadn't left yours.

"I'm fine-"

"You’re not. You have not slept in about 48 hours-"

"Neither have you! I just need more coffee" you insisted, getting up to get another cup.

"I think we have reached the point where coffee is doing nothing to you" he said. "This isn’t up for discussion, you need to sleep-"

"I can't!" you snapped.

"Why not?" Spencer said, worried. "Penelope is going to be okay. She's home now. You saved her life-"

"I told her to go" you muttered.

"Excuse me?"

"On the date" you said, looking at Spencer. "She was hesitant about it and I told her to go on the date" you repeated. "I told her to take a chance and that- that... fucking shithead shot the person with the purest heart in the world and we can't find him, Spence-!"

"We will" Spencer insisted. "Listen to me, there's no way you could have known what would happen to Penelope" he said, wiping away your tears. "You just gave her an advice any best friend would" he smiled. "We will find him and he is going to pay for what he did to Garcia" he said, softly. "But you need to get some rest" he repeated. "Please?" he pouted and made you laugh a little.

"I'm sorry I keep crying in front of you" you laughed.

"I'm actually a bit honored" Spencer said, kissing the side of your head. "Come on" he said, getting up and pulling you with him.

"Spence-"

"Morgan and I are here. We are not leaving until this is done so you are going to get some rest" he instructed.

"Fine" you said, rolling your eyes. "Um... Spence?" you asked, sitting on the edge of your bed and looking everywhere but at him.

"Hmm?" he asked, at your door.

"Would you... s-stay here?"

"I'm already staying here-" he said, confused.

"No. Not... outside with Morgan" you added. "Here... with m-me?"

"Oh" he said, glad that it was dark and you couldn't see his cheeks blushing. "Sure, I can stay on the floor-"

"For God's sake, Spencer. Get on my bed!" you chuckled. "Is not like you haven't before" you reminded him whenever you two did movie marathons and he ended up staying the night.

"I know. I'm just letting Morgan get to my head" he said before he could stop himself.

"What? What did Morgan say?" you asked, now fully awake.

"Nothing?"

"Spencer!"

"It was nothing important" he assured you. "I just... don't want to make things awkward-"

"Why would they be awkward?" you asked and Spencer sighed. "Spence-?"

"I love you" he blurted out, making you sit up.

"Y-you- you love me?"

"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to make things awkward I just... with what happened to Penelope, I don't want to wait any longer in telling you and you should know. I completely understand if you don't-"

"I love you too" you interrupted him.

"You do?"

"Spencer, I have loved you since I started working at the BAU" you admitted.

"So... you have loved me for two years, seven months, three days and... what, two hours?"

"Really?" you said, with a chuckle. "Well, to be quite exact, two years, seven months, three days, and about an hour and thirty minutes" you said. "I mean, I liked you since I saw you but you really made me love you in the first thirty minutes you talked to me" you smiled.

"Wasn't I doing a physics magic trick with JJ and Garcia?"

"Yes. Yes, you were" you laughed. "You were using an old camera roll container and it hit me on the head" you reminded him.

"I remember" he laughed as well. "I remember thinking there goes my chances to ever go out with that beautiful woman" he said.

"Well, look at that. You were wrong, Dr. Reid" you smiled.

"Was I?" he said, leaning closer to you. You only nodded before you closed the gap between them and crashed your lips against his. Spencer wrapped his arm around your waist deepening the kiss, both of them too distracted to hear your door opening.

"Hey, kid- whoa!" Morgan's voice was heard before he closed the door. "Dammit! Couldn't you wait one more week! Now I owe Rossi $50!"

"Shut up, Derek!"

A/N: This is my first angst drabble!

Pants and heavy breathing filled the bedroom, growing quieter as the sounds of the bedposts hitting the wall and hip thrusting had come to a halt. Your knees gave out minutes ago, now only being supported by your husband’s firm hand lifting your hip.

You’d lost count on how many times you had climaxed, senses and memories growing fuzzy from hours of play. You collapsed onto the sheets as Erwin rubbed your back. He has also released inside you a couple of times, leaving you full of his seed, too full, even, as it was overflowing and dripping out your pussy.

As he pulled out, the gush of sperm spilled also, leaving him displeased and pushing them back in with his fingers. After he was satisfied, he lowered himself and kissed you on the nape lovingly.

“Are you alright, my dear?”

“Mm-hm,” you nodded weakly with your head on a pillow, muttering under your breath, “I love you.”

“I love you, too,” he said as he got up and began to clean the mess.

The two of you had been trying for a child for some time, feeling that you both were ready for the responsibility. That wish, however, had not yet been granted upon, leaving you in tears one time because of it, but Erwin was insistent.

His blue eyes shone with thrill when you told him you were pregnant the next week. He grabbed you by the waist and pulled you in, enveloping you into a bear hug. You couldn’t see his face, but you knew he was happy, maybe even in tears.

“I knew this’d happen. You’d be such a great mommy, and I’ll never leave your side.”

“Erwin,” you chuckled. “Thanks, but you have a job.”

“I’ll still be there for you. I can’t wait for them to be born, and teach them everything I know,” he tightened his hug. “I love both of you.”

The months passed, not only with your baby bump growing, but with surprising advancements of the survey corps. News spread like wildfire of the Jaeger boy who plugged Wall Rose and later fought the Female Titan, leaving the interior in pieces and Erwin disappearing for weeks. Each time he got home he kissed you and made sure of your comfort, then talked about the revelations the survey corps had made and his theories. You always enjoyed listening to him, feeling as if his wit could pour down onto you. Each revelation was baffling, and at times brought more questions than answers. But the worst one was when your husband came home missing an arm. That was the first flag his job as a commander had put up, striking you with terror of the dangers he’s always gambled his life onto.

But of course, you had to be strong for him. That night, you wrapped a blanket around the two-three of you- and cuddled with him after so many nights of worry, wondering if your husband had survived the expedition. The news came late to you that he’d been tortured by the Military Police. It was heart crushing, but he looked at you and smiled, saying that he was one step closer towards the truth, after overthrowing the corrupt government.

“It’s okay,” he smiled. “If it meant our girl would be born with no mysteries left to crack, no more lies to uncover.”

You shook your head sternly. “Or boy.”

“It’s a suggestion.”

He held your hand and said, “We’ll be there for them, you know? We’ll see them laugh and cry. We’ll send them to their first day of school. And if it’d be a ‘her’... I’d walk her down the aisle, one day.”

After a couple weeks, you began to feel heavy and struggled doing daily things. Erwin was busy with plans and advancements of, well, his career, but he always made time for you, spending more time at home than usual, kissing your tummy and talking to the baby as if it could hear him, leaping in joy whenever you said there was a kick. You wondered if he was overwhelmed with everything happening.

Doctor checkups began and became more regular as you were close to labor. The lack of technology and science at the time meant the doctors could not predict the exact due date, but they can have a pretty accurate guess. They advised you to stay at the hospital for two weeks in case of contractions.

Erwin always made time to visit you at the hospital during nighttime, managing his time quite well between work and family. He gave his all to comfort you as the time grows nearer, worrying each passing day if the contractions would come.

But during your labor, it was a shame he was at work, too far to reach. You had to endure the pain, the burn, the stretch alone, with only doctors and nurses around you, repeating the same orders over and over again.

“Breathe, push, breathe, push.”

It was torture. Your back and lower abdomen ached, the stretch burned and pressured your pelvis. Controlling yourself not to scream and instead, take deep breaths was near impossible given the growing ache. As if the physical torment wasn’t enough, to top it off, you had no one to give you emotional comfort and support at the time, not even your husband. Perhaps it would’ve been less excruciating had he been there, giving you a hand to squeeze mercilessly.

The tears of the tiny baby helped you forget the pain after it was pushed out of your uterus. You cradled him in your arms after he was wrapped in a blanket. The prospect of being a mother, the dream you’ve always had in the back of your mind for years, was relieving, joyful, and sad at the same time. You held your baby close as if it was the most important thing to you, and it was, and it always will be.

“Do you want to name it now, ma’am?” one of the doctors asked you.

“No… not until my husband comes.”

“We’ve sent for his office, he should be here as soon as the message gets to him.”

The doctors left the room after everything was set, leaving you alone with your son. Tears of joy streamed down your face as you held him close, kissing the little face and hands gently as you waited for Erwin, unable to contain your joy, not knowing how you would phrase the words to break the news to him.

You recalled the last time you saw your husband. It was just yesterday, the night before your labor.

That one particular night¸ as always, Erwin had sat next to you by the hospital bed. He held your hand, listening to you talk about your day at the hospital, how bored you were, and how you wished the baby would come sooner so that you could get out and get on with your life.

“What do you think we should name it?” you asked him.

“You carried her for nine months, you should name her,” he replied.

“I carried him for nine months, the least you could do, my love, is save me the trouble of thinking about names.”

He chuckles, listing some names he’d thought of and the meaning and philosophy behind them. His voice was dreamy, and you were really grateful to be able to hear that voice almost every day since you were married. The night stirred, and you began to yawn.

“Are you staying here for the night?” you asked him.

He froze quite still for a second.

“…No.”

The answer was never shocking, but also never failed to disappoint you. It was engraved onto your brain that ‘no’ meant he had an expedition to go on to. It was hard, and almost crazy that this had to happen in an interval so near to your still unpredicted labor.

“We’re retaking Wall Maria tomorrow,” he said.

If only you'd known what that meant.

Just seen a post about S6&S3 parallels and @rachaeljurassic made some super interesting points in the tags about Giles’ departure and how INFURIATING it is that I really want to expand upon, so I guess this one’s for you :) I get it, the mentor figure needs to be gotten out of the way in order to progress Buffy’s own arc, that’s fine. It narratively makes complete sense, but it was handled badly.

@rachaeljurassic suggested that maybe we could’ve gotten him out of the way with a coma. I vibe with that. Let’s have the head injuries catch up to him and have him totally incapacitated. Big battle, dire injuries, that works. We could still have Buffy spiralling after, but this time she’d be blaming herself because Giles got hurt as a result of her being the Slayer (even though he’d never blame her for it and it isn’t her fault except for like twice). That also works better because it would be more in character than having Giles go “I know you can’t even breathe right now but I’m gonna flake because you need to be a grown up. Even though when I was your age I was raising demons, doing dr*gs and having orgies so like lmao.” Plus, have a couple of gratuitous scenes of a very injured Giles being visited by someone to pepper throughout the season that were pre-recorded so we don’t get confused as to why they wouldn’t be sat there with him at least every now and then to make us cry. Imagine a scene with Buffy in a hospital room watching a ventilator force air into her Watcher to keep him alive and pouring her heart out because she’s terrified with no idea what to do and he always knew and she needs him and just cries. You could even have it where he’s like slowly deteriorating or something and Dark!Willow uses her magic to cure him so that would explain how he just got better and was like... fine.

I also love the idea of him having a total breakdown after Buffy’s death. I absolutely thrive off him becoming a completely numb droid (he probably was and only bothered to put on façade for the Scoobies but that’s for another day) and the Scoobies decided it’d be better for him to try and find a new purpose in life by sending him to England. We could’ve had like the first episode of them helping him settle with the Coven or something and it’d have been AWFUL to watch, but it would make sense and then when Buffy gets resurrected, they just don’t tell him and they tell Buffy that the grief killed him or something like that? idk... or having them explain that Giles isn’t Giles anymore and he’s doing better (because Tara gets updates from the Coven) but being in Sunnydale was killing him and they never told him that Buffy was resurrected. That wedges the group dynamic enough tbh and would cause Buffy to turn to Spike because he’d have had no clue about anything except that Giles had gone off the bloody rails big time and it was good he was away from this hellhole.

Family emergency? Let’s be honest, the Giles family are probably scum so I’d buy that way less but it’s still more convincing than what actually happened.

Another suggestion was having the Council snatch him. I also adore this. That would make sense. But let’s have them make it look like they killed him because I love that. So they send in a team, take him away but make it look like he’s been completely murdered.

My idea is that they put a glamour or something on a vampire to make it look like Giles (but the audience don’t know this yet) and so Buffy drops by and finds a body that is in every way identical to Giles in a destroyed apartment and just breaks and is like clutching at him or something and there’s blood and its horrendous. Then you could either have swoopy Council guys come in and take Giles away when he ‘wakes up’ as a vampire because “there’s a procedure to this Miss Summers” or have her stake him herself then and there because after Angelus she’s taking no chances. Could you imagine the emotional payoff of that? She then has to go and tell the others, who don’t believe her but they all see the apartment, bloodstains and pile of dust and they all have to cope with the grief of losing him throughout the season in addition to everything else.

But wait! There’s more. Travers ends the episode with a folder in front of him, a report from the team that carried out the operation and smiles saying something evil like “I warned her of dealing with grown ups” so the audience all thinks that Giles got offed by the Council.

BUT REALLY Giles was taken and held in a like prison facility thing, very much alive. Then we get like a showdown of Giles chained to a chair in this cell being forced to watch the video footage of the whole operation and Travers telling him that it’s over and his oh so precious Slayer will end up killing herself with guilt/grief and the Council can have a new start because they’re going to off Faith too. And the last shot is Giles crying in a dank hole.

As far as the audience goes: imagine having Giles showing up at the end of S6 if THAT had been the departure? It’s already an “AAAAAHHHHHH HOLY SHIT!” moment but it’d be magnified tenfold. Then Buffy being completely confused because “I killed you!” then having that moment when she ends up hugging him and he’s warm and breathing and not dead. And Dark!Willow being really confused but trying to kill him anyway because if he was alive all this time why didn’t he come back? That’s when we get the scene with Giles watching what happened on the monitor. Everyone is confused and Giles explains that the Council kept him in one of their facilities and now Buffy feels sick because she’s like “they tortured you... for months!” and Giles is like “Well yeah but it’s fine because I’m here now and I’m so sorry for abandoning you all.” Still can have Evil Willow being evil and Xander saving the day. I don’t care that much but we could’ve had this worked in.

Because the Council would’ve tortured him for fun. Not necessarily physically but they would’ve paraded him around as the example of what happens if you don’t toe the line. They could’ve completely humiliated him and it caused like cracks in the Council because some of them hate that Travers is abusing his power like this on one of their own and others finding it good that such a strong message is being sent. At which point, Travers would give the order for the Special Ops team to start the beatings. Of course, Giles is used to having the seven bells kicked out of him, but to be used as a training dummy by other human beings? They’d practice on him and that’s as far as I think the physical side of it would go, the rest would be mental/emotional torture. Or having hexes/curses tested on him and all the while, Giles genuinely wants them to kill him because everyone he cares about already thinks he’s dead so it makes no difference if it’s the reality. All the while, he’s being kept vaguely up to date with the events of Sunnydale so that he can hear how his Slayer is edging closer into just giving up and it breaks his heart. So Giles spent a year either being locked in a cell translating texts or being used as a punchbag to teach the S.O. team how to interrogate people. That’s how I see it going anyway. We could’ve seen like flashbacks of parts of it in S7 or something idk.

That would explain why he’s so distant in S7. Because he was kept prisoner for almost a year by the people who practically raised him (because the Council kind of did) and how that would mess anyone up and the First tormenting him about how he should’ve gone through with any attempts to end it instead of being a coward because Buffy doesn’t need him and she already thought he was dead.

I dunno if this is actually what you were going for but it’s where my mind went and it would’ve given Tony Head something really juicy to do by playing a slightly crazed version of Giles who freaks out if there’s more than five people in the room because a year of living on your own in the dark drove him mad. He would’ve completely nailed it. Way better than sitting there going, “I’m headed back to England, and I plan to stay indefinitely”. Ugh we were robbed.

Now this is going to sound hella stupid, but pretty much only Buck being with Eddie if he gets shot is giving me a lot of hope, if not for Buddie then at least for an EddieAna breakup. These kind of near death experience / major injury scenes are usually used to emphasise a certain bond between characters, (more often than not romantic) so if they actually show us Buck’s reaction... I’m not saying that that would be a confirmation, because platonic love is a thing, and Eddie and Buck are canonically really really important to each other without there being a romantic relationship between them. I’m just saying that if they wanted to have Ana be the real deal for Eddie, they could have found a way for her to be involved in that scene. (Or write a different one, so it would make sense for her to be there) The could have have found a way to at least not emphasise, time and time again, the importance of the one guy people would rather see with Eddie.

i definitely agree! i don’t think eddieana is meant to be eddie’s endgame, especially given how her character has been treated since she was introduced. it seems wildly suspect to me that at every turn that the show introduces even the bare minimum of a story featuring ana, they then spend the rest of the episode bolstering up eddie and christopher’s connection to buck.

like, she’s introduced in 3.12 and after the skateboarding incident her advice is basically that chris can’t skateboard and he should find other things he’s good at. which is then directly contradicted by buck talking about jim abbott and then helping eddie build an accessible skateboard for chris. literally that episode narratively is like “lol, ana is flat out wrong”

and then she’s brought back in 3.15 for that tiny little cameo during christopher’s show and tell...but it comes after you have buck literally digging in the mud with his bare hands to save eddie, the 118 treating buck like the loved one of a victim, and buck being heavily featured in eddie’s family montage while he fights for his life. it’s not comparable!!

she’s re-introduced in 4.06 right after...buck talks about becoming buck 3.0 and wanting to move forward with his life? and eddie asking for buck’s advice on ana? and buck outing eddie re:ana to the whole crew? and buck telling eddie about how the ~*universe*~ is screaming at him? and buck’s look back when eddie doesn’t join them for breakfast? this episode is probably the only one that gave ana any serious amount of attention, but i still find it noteworthy that buck and eddie got so much attention together

she comes back for the dreaded 4.08 but...what do we get? a cringe-y math date where she calls chris a ~*sensitive*~ boy and talks about how she understands that no one’s been in christopher’s life since shannon died...which then leads into a scene where we see buck and eddie being totally domestic with each other and talking about christopher’s bedtime routine. and THEN after eddie tells chris, you’ve got ana immediately suggesting they end their relationship and chris running to buck for comfort who promises that chris will always have him. like this episode just underlines how central buck is to the diaz family in contrast to ana.

she’s brought back again for that 10-second scene at the end of 4.10 but??? literally who cares when we got a whole ass scene of eddie AND buck sharing their opinions.

now she’s coming back for the last 2 episodes and we know that, once again, buck and eddie are going to be getting some major scenes together no matter what happens with ana. and i definitely find it interesting that you’ve got ana in the promo saying something along the lines of “i think there’s something wrong with this woman” (i’m like 95% sure they’re talking about the mom from the promo) but eddie clearly goes to BUCK about his concerns. i’m kind of curious if maybe they’ll bring back ana’s tendency to want to bail on things that are hard (does it count as a tendency? it’s happened twice re:the skateboard incident and suggesting they take a break) and maybe she’ll try to talk eddie out of going back to the mom and kid. clearly he does, and with buck who’s off duty. i’m just so curious! as to how that happens???

(i’m also hoping??? that the carla dinner scene will introduce SOME conflict into the eddieana plot bc jesus, it has been so boring. again, i really think they know the breakup storyline they wanted to tell and that these last 2 eps are what they’ve been waiting for, so i’m hoping things finally get interesting. i’m also not sure what to make of that bts photo of ana w/ abuela + carla + eddie + chris with the implication that buck (and possibly taylor? but i REALLY don’t trust that) is in the scene too. if it’s not in 4.13 my only assumption is that? maybe it’s a scene of eddie coming home from the hospital and they’ll pull a 3.18 parallel with eddieana breaking up upon the return home the same way buckalli did in s3).

Mulder regained consciousness by degrees. First, he heard the beeping of machines and the scuffling of non-slip shoes on linoleum. Then, he felt the scratchiness of a cheap pillowcase beneath his cheek and the prick of an IV needle in his hand, which made him realize he was in the hospital. Mulder’s other hand was in much better shape - there were soft, warm fingers grasping his and if he concentrated on that light touch, the pounding in his head lessened.

When Mulder finally opened his eyes, eyelids batting away the last of the fogginess, his suspicion was confirmed. He was lying in a hospital bed and to his delight the warm fingers encircling his were Scully’s. She had pulled a blue plastic chair all the way to the edge of his bed, close enough that her knees were touching the mattress. However, Scully was fast asleep, which provided Mulder the opportunity to observe her. He was amused at how she had contorted her body so that she could reach across the bed to hold his hand and still stay seated in the chair. Despite the awkward position, Scully looked softer, her hard edges eroded away in sleep. He didn’t want to wake her, but he knew she would need several visits to the chiropractor if she stayed in that position for any length of time.

Mulder squeezed her hand and said her name, which first came out as a croak until he cleared his throat.

“Scully,” he tried again.

She sat up quickly, as if part of her brain had been on alert. Like any true military daughter and former med student, Scully could fall asleep anywhere - rental cars, airport terminals and apparently even hard hospital chairs - but she roused just as easily.

“Mulder,” she stated after realizing that he was awake. “How are you feeling?” She pulled her hand back to rub at her eyes before leaning closer to look him over. Even in the low lighting Mulder could see that the sharpness had returned to her face as she pivoted to serious Dr. Scully mode and he was determined to soften those edges once again.

“Like I got hit by a car,” he said with a chuckle.

“Very funny,” she said, trying to sound stern but it didn’t work because she was fighting a small smile. There is it, he thought.

“How long have I been here?” he asked.

“Only a few hours,” Scully said with a yawn that she tried to hide behind her hand.

Mulder glanced at the clock: it was almost one in the morning. He looked closer at Scully and realized that she was paler than usual and her eyes were bloodshot, clear signs that she was exhausted. Not only was it late, but they had been working round the clock on this latest case. Until now, of course.

“Scully, why don’t you go back to the motel and get some sleep?” Mulder suggested. He felt guilty that she was missing out on sleep while he was in the hospital for doing something stupid again.

She sat up a little straighter in the chair. “No, I’m fine! You can go back to sleep, Mulder, and I’ll just stay here. Maybe I’ll take another nap.”

Mulder knew that Scully didn’t trust some of the small-time hospitals they ended up in on out-of-town cases and she must have insisted to the nurse that she be allowed to stay past visiting hours, probably flashing her badge authoritatively. The image of Scully bossing around hospital staff so that she could tend to her partner warmed Mulder’s heart, the same way that sunlight through the car windshield on an otherwise cold winter day warmed one’s face.

“Well, if you’re going to stay, you can’t sleep in that chair,” he said pointedly.

Scully raised her eyebrows, looking confused, so Mulder patted the bed next to him.

“There’s plenty of room here. And you’re small enough.”

Scully shook her head, “No, Mulder, you need to rest. Plus it’s against hospital policy. I already had to bully my way to stay in your room and I don’t want to give the staff another reason to kick me out.”

Mulder smiled; he was right about the badge and the bossiness. Even more reason why he had to convince her to take him up on his offer.

“Aw, come on, Scully. I’ll be better able to sleep if I know that you aren’t sitting in that uncomfortable chair all night. You don’t want me to be stressed about your back, right?” he needled.

Scully seemed ready to give in, because she peeked at the door. Not hearing or seeing anyone, she gingerly sat on the bed next to Mulder. He wrapped an arm around her and pulled her closer.

“Mulder!” she whispered urgently, keeping her voice low so no one would hear. “I don’t want to hurt you.”

“You won’t,” he said. He figured he was allowed certain liberties since he was injured in the hospital. He knew Scully would just blame it on his pain medication, which would allow her to give into his whims without overthinking anything.

She settled slowly into the bed and laid her head gently on his chest. “You’ll tell me if you need me to move?” she asked softly.

“I won’t,” Mulder replied. He was already feeling better because Scully was nice and warm pressed against his side, an analgesic to his sore muscles and bruised limbs.

“I’ll just stay until you fall back asleep,” she claimed, but Mulder could already feel her breathing slow down and even out, indicating that she herself was falling asleep. He chuckled lightly and brushed his fingers once through her hair. Mulder found her rhythmic respiration to be very soothing. He tried to match his breaths to hers and he felt his own eyes closing, heading back to slumber.

The nurse entered the hospital room of her patient F. Mulder (male, DOB 10/13/61) and realized that the FBI agent who demanded to be allowed to stay past visiting hours was curled up in bed with said patient. She sighed; it wouldn’t be the first time she would have to evict a visitor for impeding a patient’s recovery. But since they were both asleep, she decided it could wait until she finished her duties.

The nurse checked the patient’s chart and then the monitors beside his bed. Then she checked them again. All of his vitals looked surprisingly good. Both his heart rate and blood pressure were the lowest they’d been since he’d arrived, now back in normal range. His oxygen saturation had also improved, so the nasal cannula could be removed once he was awake.

The nurse glanced back down at the sleeping couple for a moment and then quietly left the room without waking either of them up. She closed the door on the way out, so they wouldn’t be disturbed by anyone else until the morning rounds.

A COLLECTION OF BEN AND LESLIE HEADCANONS

PRE-RELATIONSHIP/S3

basically canon but leslie definitely had a crush on a young benji wyatt and followed the story religiously for the first couple months before she started college

ben is only slightly jealous leslie had ann go out with chris to try and get more money for the parks budget rather than leslie asking him out with the same goal. he knows it’s insane, unethical, and illogical but he’s still excited that he gets to spend the night with her on a date plus two other people even if it is to accuse her of bribery.

ann realizes early on that leslie was attracted to ben and teases her mercilessly about it. she thinks it’s absolutely hilarious that leslie wants to make out with "mean ben.” after april and andy’s wedding, she realizes it's more than just attraction and she lays off.

before ben can even think rationally about what he’s doing, he’s in line at bed, bath, and beyond with a crock pot in his arms, calling stephanie to ask her to send him their family’s chicken soup recipe

ann knew ben liked her from the beginning and was totally positive when she ran into him in the hospital asking for leslie’s room number while holding jj’s waffles and a tub of homemade soup.

ben realizes he’s falling in love with leslie when he is at city hall with her until 3am one night trying to budget for the amount of cotton candy machines she wants for the harvest festival. in his exhaustion, he naively believes her when she tells him she’ll go home in a bit so he leaves. he never gets a text from saying she made it home so he stops at jj’s the next morning and brings a takeout container of waffles and a coffee complete with an outlandish amount of whipped cream and sugar to the parks department. he finds her asleep in the conference room. he starts trying to convince sweetums to donate more cotton candy machines that afternoon.

chris had to have known ben liked leslie. he’s not an idiot. in the deleted scene from their wedding, they read out emails from their “tumultuous first week in pawnee” and chris writes to ben saying, “why are you so focused on leslie knope?” ben replies saying, “i’m not. whatever. shut up.” there’s no way chris is this oblivious. ben takes her out for a beer. ben pays out of pocket for a children’s performer to help her out. ben shows up on chris and ann’s date just because he thinks leslie might be there. chris can’t be this dumb. but when they take the city manager jobs in pawnee, he knows it can’t happen so he cuts ben off when he starts to ask about dating someone in city hall. he cracks down on the rule in front of leslie after the tom incident to hammer it in. he starts setting ben up on a bunch of dates to try and head it off. he sends them to indianapolis for the little league pitch because, realistically, he knows they’re the best bet for success but makes sure to interrupt their dinner and invites them to his apartment to continue to run interference the rest of the night. after their fights in 4.06-4.08, he hopes he won’t have to worry anymore. the next work day, they come into his office looking nervous and happy and he knows he’s about to lose the partner and best friend that’s been by his side for the past decade.

april and andy knew they were secretly dating. it went unspoken aside from a few implicit teasing remarks from april and a few suggestive attempted high fives from andy but leslie assured ben they wouldn’t tell anyone despite their ostensible behavior.

BREAK UP

ben had commissioned the li’l sebastian plush for leslie after he had died but the toy shop didn’t finish it until after they broke up. he felt bad not going to pick it up so he did despite not being able to give it to her. he kept it for all those months and sometimes thought about getting rid of it but could never bring himself to do it.

when leslie made personalized copies her books for her friends with individualized annotations and notes in the bylines, she had two copies for ben. there was one that she gave him during their breakup that was very simplified and watered down where the note basically just said “i’m really glad you decided to stay in pawnee.” then there was a second copy that she kept while they were split up that was totally covered in notes and random thoughts she couldn’t say during their time apart. she gives him that copy when they get back together and it may or may not be the best gift he’s ever received.

april was much less abrasive with them during the break up because she’s a sweetheart and wants her friends to be happy.

the first time leslie admitted she was in love with him was during a long night of drinking and crying at ann’s house

ben craved the taste of sugar during their breakup because he got used to tasting the sweetness when he kissed her

ben found himself unable to sleep at night without the sound of leslie talking in her sleep to comfort him

april texted leslie the night of the halloween party to let her know that ben and andy were at the hospital after a fight and everything was fine and she didn’t need to worry. leslie was mad at andy for a few days after and he couldn’t figure out why.

the only photo in ben’s bedroom was of himself, leslie, and li’l sebastian at the harvest festival. if he got caught staring at it and crying, he would just say he missed li’l sebastian so much.

april and andy started having star wars and star trek movie nights to try and cheer ben up

DOMESTIC

ben and leslie got in the habit of having weekly game nights with april and andy during the campaign since they were all basically living together. it became a tradition that kept going as often as they could make it happen, even after the kids were born. they try to have game night at least once a month. april pretends to hate it.

one of my absolute favorite ideas about them is that she sleeps much better when he’s around to keep her grounded. after they get together for good, she starts getting closer to 5 hours of sleep a night.

another favorite involving leslie’s sleeping: ben is typically accustomed to tuning out incoherent nonsense that she babbles in her sleep but she also has some of her best ideas when she’s not busy trying to focus on a million different things. when he hears her coming up with legitimately good ideas or making speeches or having solid debate arguments, he takes out the notebook he keeps in his nightstand to record her thoughts and quotes. he revisits and revises the notes to strengthen her statements and make them more professional and less rambling but makes sure to keep her distinct voice apparent in them.

ben prefers pancakes to waffles but he will go to the grave with that secret

this isn’t a headcanon because nbc posted it but one of ben’s holidays on leslie’s calendar is watch synchronization day which is the day they celebrate syncing their watches to, as leslie puts it, “always be in harmony, like our hearts” which is just one of the sweetest fucking things in the world

leslie makes ben read and watch all the harry potters because he didn’t get into them when he first tried. ben is much more of a success than ann. she buys him a ravenclaw scarf for christmas.

their first fight as a couple was a historical debate gone awry

since ben clearly has some affinity for custom stuffed animals, he has some made for the triplets.

they’re both dog people but they adopt a cat because sonia and stephen beg for one and it does fit their busy lifestyle much better. they love the cat. they get a dog when the kids are older and life is slightly less hectic.

they both love striped shirts and sweaters so much that they have to make a conscious effort to avoid wearing them on the same day and matching

leslie makes sweets and bakes desserts while ben typically handles cooking the actual meals

BASED ON EPISODES, QUOTES, AND THROWAWAY LINES

i always loved the ann/ben dynamic in bus tour because there’s been such an obvious shift in ann’s attitude towards him in this episode. maybe it’s because she and tom just broke up and she just turned chris down again and she’s frustrated with relationships but i think it’s her realizing ben isn’t going anywhere. since the campaign is winding down, she realizes that things aren’t gonna go back to the way they were because ben is now part of this and he’s clearly in it for the long haul. ann’s definitely jealous that ben is just as important to leslie as she is and she now knows she’s never gonna get that full attention back. ann sits ben down to have a real “don’t you dare hurt her” speech after this ep and before win, lose, or draw. this is when he tells ann he wants to marry her.

they discover they both adore the princess bride after ben says “as you wish” to her one night and after that it becomes their movie.

the wildflower mural becomes a thing between them when ben says he considered that to be their first date, prompting leslie to tell him what the mural means to her.

ben puts banjo boogie bonanza on one of the mix cds he gives leslie at the beginning of their relationship

harrison ford movie nights start after they both reveal they had a crush on him as a kid. ben was obsessed with han solo and leslie was into indiana jones’ whole history teacher vibe.

they basically hate each other’s taste in music and stop exchanging mix cds once that becomes apparent that they aren’t gonna find much common ground. they both love tom petty, al green, and etta james and music in that vein though.

ben makes leslie watch game of thrones just to try to explain why he’s called her khaleesi. she gets into it, not so much because of the show itself, but because of how passionate her boyfriend is about it.

they start learning basic french during the s4 campaign because they think it will be useful to have a basic multilingual vocabulary for their political careers and because leslie confesses she has always dreamed of seeing paris. they study spanish next.

ben makes leslie watch the star wars prequels just so he can complain to her during them. he doesn’t think she’s paying attention and then he reads about midichlorians in the paper.

ann is also in on ben’s plan to sneak vegetables into leslie’s waffles.

they will sometimes jokingly refer to themselves as the “dream team” or “dynamic duo” because, despite chris’s absurdity, it’s true

i’m open to literally any origin of this because no matter what it’s perfect but i like to think that “i love you and i like you” started at some point in season 4 when, at some point, leslie went “i like you” and ben replied “you like me?” “mhm” “hm just like me?” “yes i like you. i love you and i like you. both.” “mmm i love you and i like you too”

i barely even register some of these things as headcanons since they just live so solidly in my brain

The Twelve needed Villanelle back more than Villanelle needed The Twelve.

Question: Tell me this, do you also believe the 12 were right not to give her any position of power and leadership in their ranks?

The ONLY conceivable reason The Twelve would have given Villanelle a position of power and leadership is they are following Don Corleone Rules and keeping their friends close, but their enemies closer. Maybe to get V on a tighter leash or a little closer when the time comes to take her out. Who knows? That's for fanfics to figure out. The third season of Killing Eve sure didn't.

Looking at Felix, Rhian, Anton, Dasha, Konstantin, and Raymond, I am highly unimpressed with the shallow talent pool The Twelve has to draw upon. I wouldn’t pick these fuck-ups to run a McDonald’s. Surely they have one or two other psycho killers like Villanelle ready to come off the bench and take the ball?

Hélène is the only person in The Twelve who brings any swag to the party. She is super confident she could take Villanelle out, and it wouldn’t even be a major effort. I believe her. Hélène is a scary woman and I look forward to the time when her path crosses Villanelle and Eve in Season Four--whenever that finally gets going!

Whatever comes next there are two things the next season absolutely has to be about: getting E&V horizontal on a soft bed or vertical against a hard wall and finally paying off whatever the threat is this mysterious cabal supposedly poses. That, and doing right by E&V who were seriously short-changed in all the Family Matters madness the S3 writing crew wallowed in.

Heathcote gave us some vague suggestion that Villanelle wanted to get the power that came with being a Keeper (even though its not clearly defined what that power even is) and she wanted to smell like a centurion and hold that power, then she got fascinated with babies as if she couldn't figure out why people even like babies, and Eve kissed/head-butted her, and yeah that happened too, and she got a sudden urge to go off and see her peeps and murder/death/kill her mama and blah-blah-blah.

Meanwhile, Dasha couldn’t kill one civilian even after sneaking up behind him and skewering him with a pitchfork. Then Villanelle couldn’t kill Dasha with a golf club to the dome; a sloppy mistake compounded by Eve failing to finish off the senior citizen slayer by stepping on her chest when she should have stomped the shit out of her.

It was--to put it kindly--a bit of a mess.

“What I've come to realize is that one cannot destroy The Twelve.“ Carolyn declared Despite Carolyn’s change of heart coming out of nowhere in the S3 finale, it doesn’t mean she’s wrong about The Twelve.

The Twelve is supposedly this powerful, insidious, and unstoppable criminal cabal. To believe Dasha and Raymond, they were working for the baddest of bad asses.

The Threat: They will take you apart for this. Both of you. And everyone you know. Inch by inch.

The Result: The Ginger Goon gets turned into kindling by Eve. Not only do The Twelve not take Eve and Villanelle apart and everyone they know by inches, they welcome Villanelle back with open arms, instruct Dasha not to touch a fabulous hair on Eve’s head and Sugar Ray is never mentioned by anyone in Season 3.

The Threat: She's moving up in the world. You'll never touch her now. You think you are winning. You will never win at this game. You can't beat us. You understand? I can kill you... any time.

The Result: Dasha gets touched all right. Touched with a golf club up against the head and a shoe squashing the shit out of her. Her double humiliation ends with Dasha lying flat on her ass, looking all beat-up and sad before coding out in the hospital (and presumably dying). See what your shit talking gets you, Dasha? No reunion with your son in Russia, but instead a toe tag on a cold slab.

What everybody fails to see until it is a little too late is that you do not tell Eve Polastri what she can and cannot do. She will kill you just to prove how wrong you are.

The Twelve is weak. They aren’t scary. They aren’t even all that competent. Except for Hélène. She is scary and if you would tell her I said so, I’d appreciate it.

As it stands, as evil criminal cabals go The Twelve is all sizzle and no steak, so step yo' villain game up, you gangsta wannabees because it's looking real shaky right about now.

i’m gonna try putting this under a read more but if that doesn’t work please stop reading if you don’t want any kind of spoilers !! i’ll be using my spoiler tags, too, so remember to blacklist/filter out ‘s4′, ‘st4’, and the ‘spoilers’ tags !!

seriously -- this goes in depth about set pics, audition videos, and theories.

i’m so sorry this is so incredibly long lmao. i’m just sitting on all this s4 stuff and i want to talk about it.

bottom line, i’m excited. i’m just happy to see that they’re filming again tbh, and i hope that they’ll be staying as safe and healthy as possible and that there won’t be any more major delays.

as for the content, i’m pretty happy about that, too. i love all of these characters and dynamics pretty equally, so any content with any of them is great to me. i think there was also a pic of priah on set that day, too, but it was far away and you couldn’t really see her that well. ultimately, it seems like there will be a lot of s1 and s2 vibes with the whole school setting, as a large part of the main cast will be together at hawkins high instead of off doing their own things during the summer.

i know a ton of people want a winter season, but i personally think it’ll be spring and i think nancy’s outfit in particular kinda points in that direction. plus, i don’t think they’d skip past nancy, robin, and jonathan’s senior year or the party’s first year of high school/el’s potential first year of school ever. they could do fall again and start right where we left off in s3 with the 3 month time jump, or they could do flashbacks to the holidays and time we’ll be missing. but i think the bulk of the season will be set in spring. spring has easter, easter = resurrection, david keeps referring to hopper being alive as a resurrection, strangerwriters twitter specifically brought up making easter jokes with hopper’s name, etc.

i have to bring up the s4 audition tapes that surfaced a while ago. i know they’re a controversial topic (are they real? should we put any thought into them? do they actually reflect any part of s4 at all? why would these be open to the public if they’re legit? etc., etc.), but for this ask and for the part of me that’s grasping onto like... any potential s4 info, i’m gonna be looking at them as if they’re real.

this one is for ‘warden hatch’, who is the head of a psychiatric hospital. now, we know pennhurst is gonna be in s4. we know natalia filmed there before production shut down. people said maya was also on set that day. the scenes in this audition have him talking to two girls who happen to be very smart and have a taste for investigating. they’re obviously lying about being in college (or, at least, at that particular college with that particular professor), so i think it counts as confirmation that the two of them are still in high school, or at the very least working around hawkins. i just can’t see why nancy would be at hawkins high if she wasn’t still a student.

this one is for ‘eddie’, the ‘80s metalhead who is into metallica, loves d&d, and is a potential ally. he’s also apparently a drug dealer. so. his audition mentions hellfire a lot. ‘the hellfire club’ is the name of the first episode of s4. and now we have a picture of gaten on set in a shirt that says ‘hellfire club’. at the end of s3, in the news report, they allude to dungeons and dragons being linked to satanism. it seems like this is something the hellfire club (apparently, a club for lovers of d&d) will be dealing with. there’s also a present rivalry of ‘jocks v. nerds’ with the club and the basketball team, which we know will also play a part in s4. in the audition, ‘eddie’ is talking to ‘paul’ (”you were wearing your weird al shirt”) and ‘curtis’ (”you were wearing whatever shit your mom got you from the goddamned gap”), who are... obviously dustin and mike. they tell him that ‘fred’ (lucas) will be missing the club meeting because he has to play basketball.

which brings us to ‘jason’ and the most uh... obvious? of the audition tapes. this is a scene from a pep rally for a championship basketball game, where ‘jason’ literally name drops heather, billy, and hopper, who all “perished in that fire” (aka the cover up for the battle of starcourt). now, ‘jason’ is dating ‘molly’, a cheerleader who goes to ‘eddie’ to buy drugs (which i think is the second scene included in ‘eddie’s’ audition above). this second ‘jason’ audition has the pep rally scene as well as a scene where ‘jason’ tells the basketball team they need to hunt down the ‘freaks’ in the hellfire club (but especially ‘eddie’) because something happened to ‘molly’ and he blames them (bc of the whole drugs and satanists thing). one of the basketball players speaks up to tell him that they aren’t satanists, it’s just a d&d club. i believe this basketball player is lucas (”and how exactly is it you know all that?” “my sister, she’s like.. a total nerd. she plays sometimes.”) and the basketball team/jason have no idea that he’s affiliated with the hellfire club.

so there are a few different situations which could lead up to the scene in the pictures with dustin and max, but there’s one more audition i need to talk about first. this isn’t the full audition because the original was deleted, but mrs. kelley is the new guidance counselor at hawkins high. her audition video seems to be a scene where she’s talking to a student about their home life and their grades. the situation in the scene is very reminiscent of max’s current situation and i think the full scene even mentioned the loss of a brother or something ? so, one parent is drinking and having to work two jobs after one asshole stepparent leaves, but things are still better with them gone. i think max might be retreating a little, pulling away from the party. in fact, i think both physical and emotional distance is going to be a theme in s4. like, not only is everyone in different places, but they’re going to be drifting into new situations with new people and new interests and all these new personal conflicts, i guess.

so, if we’re operating under the assumption that the audition vids are legit, maybe the scene is after the pep rally and dustin is checking up on max. she’s been hit pretty hard by billy’s death bc despite everything, despite how messed up and complicated everything was, he’s still been right there with her for years and she had to watch him die brutally. maybe she doesn’t want to think about it and maybe when ‘jason’ mentions his loss, it brings everything to the surface. or, maybe the scene is after the hellfire club meeting. dustin could be asking if she’s seen lucas or if she wants to be his replacement at the meeting. whatever it is, it doesn’t look like it ends on a very positive note.

uhhhhh in conclusion, nancy’s outfit suggests a spring season, she should still be in school along with robin, dustin is a part of the hellfire club, max is emo, and i’m very excited and happy.

Today, by a 6 to 3 vote, the Supreme Court handed down Brnovich v. Democratic National Committee saying that the state of Arizona did not violate the 1965 Voting Rights Act (VRA) with laws that limited ballot delivery to voters, family members, or caregivers, or when it required election officials to throw out ballots that voters had cast in the wrong precincts by accident.

The fact that voting restrictions affect racial or ethnic groups differently does not make them illegal, Justice Samuel Alito wrote. “The mere fact that there is some disparity in impact does not necessarily mean that a system is not equally open or that it does not give everyone an equal opportunity to vote.”

The court also suggested that concerns about voter fraud—which is so rare as to be virtually nonexistent—are legitimate reasons to restrict voting.

We are reliving the Reconstruction years after the Civil War.

That war had changed the idea of who should have a say in American society. Before the war, the ideal citizen was a white man, usually a property owner. But those were the very people who tried to destroy the country, while during the war, Black Americans and women, people previously excluded from politics, gave their lives and their livelihoods to support the government.

After the war, when white southerners tried to reinstate laws that returned the Black population to a position that looked much like enslavement, Congress in 1867 gave Black men the right to vote for delegates to new state constitutions. Those new constitutions, in turn, gave Black men the right to vote.

In order to stop voters from ratifying the new constitutions, white southerners who had no intention of permitting Black Americans to gain rights organized as the Ku Klux Klan to terrorize voters. While they failed to prevent states from ratifying the new constitutions, the KKK continued to beat, rape, and murder Black voters in the South.

So, in 1870, Congress established the Department of Justice to defend Black rights in the South. It also passed a series of laws that made it a federal crime to interfere with voting and with the official duties of an elected officer. And it passed, and the states ratified, the Fifteenth Amendment to the Constitution, declaring that “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.”

Immediately, white Americans determined to stop Black participation in government turned to a new argument. During the Civil War, the Republican Party had not only expanded Black rights, but had also invented the nation’s first national taxation. For the first time, how people voted directly affected other people’s pocketbooks.

In 1871, white southerners began to say that they did not object on racial grounds to Black voting, but rather on the grounds that formerly enslaved men were impoverished and were electing to office men who promised to give them things—roads, for example, and schools and hospitals—to be paid for with tax dollars. Because white men were the only ones with property in the postwar South, such legislation would redistribute wealth from white men to Black people. It was, they charged, “socialism.”

In 1876, white southerners reclaimed control of the last remaining states they had not yet won by insisting they were “redeeming” their states from the corruption created when Black voters elected leaders who would use tax dollars for public programs.

In 1890, a new constitution in Mississippi, which at the time was about 58% Black, restricted voting not on racial grounds but through a poll tax and a “literacy” test applied against Black voters alone. Mississippi led the way for new restrictions across the country. Although Black and Brown Americans continually challenged the new Jim and Juan Crow laws that silenced them, voting registration for people of color fell into single digits.

These laws stayed in place for 75 years. Then, in 1965, Congress passed the Voting Rights Act, designed to undo voter suppression laws once and for all. The VRA worked. In Mississippi in 1965, just 6.7% of eligible Black voters were registered to vote. Two years later, that number was 59.8%, although there was still a 32-point gap in registration between Blacks and whites. By 1988, that gap had narrowed to 6.3%, and in 2012, 90.2% of eligible Black residents were registered compared to 82.4% of non-Hispanic whites.

The Voting Rights Act was considered so important that just 15 years ago, in 2006, Congress voted almost unanimously to reauthorize it.

But the Supreme Court under Chief Justice John Roberts, who has long disliked the VRA, has chipped away at the law, cutting deeply into it in 2013 with the Shelby County v. Holder decision. And now, with three new justices appointed by former president Trump, the court has weakened it further.

To what end are we returning to the 1890s?

The restrictive voting measures passed by Republican-dominated legislatures are designed to keep Republicans in power. Today that means allegiance to former president Trump, whose Trump Organization and Trump Payroll Corporation were indicted by a New York grand jury today, along with Trump Organization chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg, on 15 felony counts, including a scheme to defraud, conspiracy, grand larceny, criminal tax fraud, and falsifying business records.

The indictment alleges that the schemes involve federal, as well as state and local, crimes. New York Attorney General Letitia James emphasized that the investigation is not over.

Republican lawmakers are lining up behind the former president so closely that last night,

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) threatened to take away the committee assignments of anyone agreeing to work on the select committee to investigate the events of January 6 that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is putting together after Senate Republicans filibustered the creation of a bipartisan independent committee.

(McCarthy’s declaration prompted Representative Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), who appears appalled at the direction his party has taken, to respond “Who gives a s--t?” He added: “I do think the threat of removing committees is ironic, because you won't go after the space lasers and white supremacist people but those who tell the truth.”)

Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) nonetheless said she was “honored” to join the committee, along with seven Democrats. While it is unclear if McCarthy will add more Republicans, it will now get underway. The committee includes House Intelligence Committee chair Adam Schiff (D-CA), and Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD), both of whom showed extraordinary ability to assess huge amounts of material when they managed Trump’s impeachment trials.

That the Republicans have fought so hard against an investigation of the January 6 insurrection suggests we might well learn things that reflect poorly on certain lawmakers.

So, today’s news puts the American people in the position of watching as a political party, lined up behind a man now in legal jeopardy, who might be involved in an attack on our government, tries to cement its hold on power.

“Today’s decision by the Supreme Court undercuts voting rights in this country,” President Biden said, “and makes it all the more crucial to pass the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to restore and expand voting protections.”

“Our democracy depends on it.”
