just finished my dps rewatch!! have some of my thoughts (if you like 👀)
firstly, time is EVERYWHERE in this film, if you rewatch and note every time a church bell ringing out the hour, or a shot of a clock or watch or a scene where there’s a prominent clock featured? ALL THE TIME!! (get it? haw haw) it’s really missable as a detail but once u notice it you cant UNnotice it, its so gorgeous as a method to drive home the message of seizing the day!! of making much of time!! because it passes and its always passing. time time time
thought it was so cute how knox was studying the old portraits while waiting for hager to drop him to the danburys
todd is ALWAYS in the back of the group pre the society meetings. when they all squat to join keating when hes explaining the dps todd is the only one who remains standing, he also trails lacklustrly in a good few scenes, at least two steps behind everyone. in the scene where theyre getting ready for neils play todd is leading the group out!
charlies standing position also changes, at the start during keatings classes he remains lounging behind everyone casually, but over time he moves to push ahead to the front of the group
lots of globes in scenes too, and maps. theyre in neils room and keatings classroom and nolans office.
neils scene where he tells keating his father let him do acting was part of the extended deleted scene where the boys were all blindfolded listening to the a record, you can tell by the eyemask neil is fidgeting with on his desk that its the same scene, just chopped
stick fences! hes in that blink and you miss it shot of two guys sparring
charlie looks like hes wearing knoxs sunglasses in the scene where he’s regaling the story of what nolan said to him
also! when theyre in the attic waiting for cameron after his meeting with nolan, they’re in similar positions to how they’d be in the cave, with todd taking neils position of sitting slightly above everyone. neil im pretty sure in at least two of the cave scenes sits on a rock that raises him higher than everyone, in the attic todd mirrors that atop a stack of suitcases :(
who is knox’s roommate? is it stick? why is stick everywhere?
charlie telling the girls “this is my cave” calls back to the original screenplay where he just claims it stating “carpe cavem”
very blatant bird symbolism also
charlie and neils friendship is so wonderfully done, its never said that theyre best friends but in everything they do its so clear how deep their bond goes
charlie does a little shake of his head to meeks and knox when mr perry pulls neil out of the room
they standing ovation todds poem! idk if that was common knowledge but you can see people start to get up
may add more as i remember them! big love to this little movie (and to u for reading thus far!)

Taylor is so Tiktok-y. She is a culture vulture yes, but she is... also in it.
See, whenever something is popular, especially in the culture of white women, she will release an album with similar aesthetic.
In 2014, Tumblr was major and we have photos with these kinds of faded filters and Polaroid pictures. 1989 follows that too, but it looks off yk not like a deliberated attempt to create an artistic statement for the album like other artists. But what do I expect from a goofy ahh album title wdym your special trait is being born in the year 1989? Are you Christ?
And then in late 2019 early 2020 the cottagecore aesthetic was trending and she released folklore... like she wore long flowery dress and touched grass and stuff.
Then the Fall/Downtown girl/Rory Gilmore aesthetic. Miss girl wore thick jacket standing among trees 😭.
Then the whole 80s era came back and people loved it hard. Of course the next album must copy what the most mainstream aesthetic is trending! The lighting must mimicks the dreamy, glowing vibe of 80s pictures, with lots of contrast to create a vintage air. Tabloid of course must be sitting in a room with vintage interior design she damn well never lives in and even with a bloody vintage keyboard piano to complete the look 😭!!
And here we have the rise of #booktok and literaturetok community where people quoted Dostoyevsky and Kafka and Jane Austen and stuff. Is it a coincidence that Swifties start to chant about Taylor's pen and compare her to Emily Dickinson just by accident? Idk. But there she is promoting a whole album which is essentially about making literature an aesthetic, and she did it in a very surface-level way, like what do we imagine when we think of literature? Books, typewriter, fountain pen, cursive writings right? She basically grabbed them all and display it everywhere in the blandest way possible. Like, there's nothing visually artistically stimulating and curious. Black and white filter, paper, typewriter? Ground breaking. This MV should be preserved as a cultural relic. Even when a movie or video game tried to take an aesthetic but wrong, they still intertwine some modern twist on it to look more interesting.
So my take is that Taylor has no artistic individuality. She hops from trend to trend like a chameleon. She thinks of herself as an aesthetic enough of its own. Of course nothing is wrong about wearing what everyone is wearing but as an artist? You know how important personal artistic style is, it's to establish your own image. I think her signature is her blond hair, that's all. So despite being very famous, the general public just don't recognize her much except for being a white blond woman who sometimes sings with guitar... and there are many white blond women singers with guitar, they're just not as famous or insufferable as.

you know what really makes me ship a ship? the fandom. like i may or may not ship it from just the show/movie/book/etc but the fandom will almost always sell me on it.
klance? at first i was like “idk…” but after listening to ya’ll talk about it i was like “OOOOOOHHH I GET IT NOW!” and now i giggle and squeak when i see them interact
kagehina? my first watch i was like “i don’t see it” and then with the help of the internet (plus some more watching their relationship develop) i became like “aaawwwwwwww YES!”
drarry? okay i have to admit i don’t really ship them much in canon, but i love the fanart and fanfics and headcanons so much! so fanon drarry is also a favorite
plus like, a lot of ninjago ships (i love them all)
case in point, fandoms are great keep doing what you do whether your a fan artist, fic writer, or just a member of a fandom! you are awesome!!

So I guess ultimately my question is why are we assuming that Nayuta specifically meant “Denji belongs to me definitively, and you are trying to take his attention away from me?”
Aside from the fact that narrative misdirection is a thing and that I think it would completely contradict all the themes of the story thus far to just have her be Makima 2.0 and inherently evil...
We don’t actually know if she and Yoru recognize each other or not? Even on a subconscious level. If she does recognize Yoru (and, reasonably, knows how her powers work) calling Yoru a thief could have meant that “You are trying to steal Denji’s spinal cord to make a weapon” or even “You have stolen this random girl’s body to use for yourself.” (Even if she doesn’t know specifically that Yoru is sharing Asa’s body, she might still be able to tell that something weird is going on?)
She’s still a child, she might have just impulsively said the smallest amount of words that would sort-of convey what she was feeling.
I’m not worried yet.
Yet.

- Maybe it’s like you said. Maybe there is something out there that explains why, no matter what, I still want to be here with you. I will always ... always ... want to be here with you.
- So what? You’re just gonna ignore everything else? You could be anything, anywhere. Why not go somewhere where your ... where your grandson is more than just ... this?
Everything Everywhere All At Once x One Piece AU
more thoughts under the cut < 3 (includes more explicit spoilers about the movie btw)
I have so many feelings about Garp and Ace’s relationship .... it made me think of parallels between them + Evelyn and Joy in EEAAO
The AU doesn’t follow the movie exactly but Ace become Jobu Topaki-esque because in his universe (the Alphaverse), Luffy actually dies at Marineford instead and that’s what splits his mind across the multiverse. Ace blames both himself and Garp for Luffy’s death, and upon learning about the existence of other universes + giving into his subsequently amplified self-hate, trauma, and nihilism, he starts reaching out to other multiverses to keep himself and Garp away from Luffy out of a deeply misguided desire to protect him.
But much like EEAAO, the reality is that Ace is searching for a Garp in the multiverse that understands his feelings self-hatred and pain and anguish and loss. Removing himself and Garp from Luffy’s life is ultimately secondary to this.
Luffy actually kind of turns out to be the Waymond of this. He is the one, out of his bright optimism and ways he finds happiness in the small things, who shows Garp (and eventually Ace), that there is a life worth living out in the world and there's hope and love out there for them too.
Sabo's also here but he fits multiple roles. Him in the Alphaverse is close to Alphaverse Gong Gong (seeing it necessary to remove/kill Ace for the sake of the multiverse's stability, and so the Everything Bagel doesn't consume everything), but him within the Protagonistverse fills in the role of Waymond as well. Not as much as Luffy, but he does want to save Ace in the Protagonistverse rather than kill him.
The Protagonistverse version (so the version we follow) of Garp, I like to imagine, quit the Marines to raise Ace and Luffy on Dawn, and ofc Sabo showed up along the way. But the sort of Gong Gong-esque force that drives him is the sort of concept of him questioning if it was the right decision to leave the Marines behind and if the Marines ever was actually a good choice in the first place considering how they acted when he decide to retire (also the whole thing of him taking in Ace + having to hide it from them), and him still sort of enforcing his idea of Luffy + Ace (and maybe Sabo idk) becoming Marines, even though he himself isn't one. Because he has an actual presence in Luffy and Ace's lives rather than just Makino or Dadan or even Shanks, they don't actually ever like, leave to become pirates, but they're not Marines either - they're sort of just civilians, which lends itself to a lot of the mundanity + boredom that Ace and Luffy and Sabo experience. But this also makes Ace stew in his feelings of being undeserving of love and his feelings of being a disappointment more since he doesn't meet Whitebeard. Garp, as much as he loves his grandbabies, is an imperfect guardian - his expectations for the boys (either become a Marine or lead a civilian life) do not help Ace at all and it creates conflict between them since they don’t see eye to eye on anything ):
I’m still trying to figure out Protagonistverse Garp’s entire deal so if this point conflicts with the previous one then Oops but like ... he’s dealing with the boys growing up (they’d be the ages they’d be pre-timeskip, so Sabo and Ace are 20 and Luffy’s 17), their desire for independence while simultaneously wanting to stay close with him bc that’s their grandpa yknow?? He’s also still hiding Ace from the Marines (you could even say he’s hiding Luffy from them bc of Dragon, and he’s hiding Sabo from his parents in Goa too) so the idea of them going off on their own could be so terrifying to him. There’s also the matter of him feeling disappointed in himself for not being as good a grandfather as he could’ve been - wondering if he’d raised the boys well - and even like ... the Marine side of things potentially being disappointed or angry at him for trying to raise these boys only for them to become pirates. And kind of like how Evelyn questions her decision to leave her family to be with Waymond, Garp questions his decision to leave the Marines to raise Luffy and Ace and Sabo ..... THERES LAYERS, OKAY.
I’m not sure who the Deirdre of this would be either. I am imagining Sengoku though but the lead up to him showing up in Garp’s life again considering my ideas is up in the air right now. Part of me thinks he’s showing up at Dawn as a half-favor and half-last ditch attempt to get the ASL bros to join the Marines. Like, Sengoku is just generally grumpier than Garp and the idea of the two of them ending up together in other universes is so intriguing to me ... also the exchange in the movie of like “it’s unlovable bitches like us who make the world go ‘round” and then the “you’re not unlovable! there’s always something to love!” ..... but with Garp and Sengoku ..... yeahhhhh. Maybe in this case it’s not a divorce tht leads Sengoku to believe that, but instead its a wedge was driven between him and Rosinante bc he’s putting his Marine duties before his family like Garp had been doing........ hmmmmmm!!!!
I have more thoughts about this AU but this is all I’m gonna write under this lol. I might actually write a fic of this heehee we’ll see! ur free to like, send asks about stuff btw im down to answer any. 🤷

Can someone please tell me why mostly Americans always say it’s pretentious when people (especially actors) name foreign or not well-known films as their favourite?
#I’m really trying to figure it out#The only way they’re pretentious to me is when they boast about knowing more films than the average person#Or having quote unquote more refined taste#but ive never seen that and yet the comments under videos like this are#ugh so pretentious#?????? I’m so sorry#first of all#these are actors#it’s their LIFE to make movies and LOVE movies#some of them have been in the industry for decades and you’re surprised Cars 3 isn’t their favourite film?#like please be so serious#and even if it was an average person#like#you’re acting as if pirating doesn’t exist#also yk what#getting access to foreign films isn’t as hard as Americans want it to be#you just don’t want to look for them! or even watch them#idk it just pmo when people label liking something different or complex and/or foreign as pretentious#you don’t even know the real definition of that word do you#just because it doesn’t appeal to you / you don’t understand it / don’t think it’s valid as a piece of art#does NOT mean people who like it and the art itself is pretentious#and this is coming from someone whose favourite film is skull island#like pls#also you’re not dumb for not understanding a piece of art the first viewing or even after multiple viewings#it’s okay to not understand things#i sure don’t get a lot of things but that doesn’t stop me from TRYING to understand#and consuming art to see what it means for me / how i experience it#the world is so much bigger than you think it is#surely bigger than one country!!!!#♡ fairy speaks ♡

Honestly the thing I'm most worried about uf they make Eggman fat in Sonic 3 is I'm 95 percent sure they're going to come up with a BS excuse.
Like yes Eggman was planned to slowly turn more game Eggman like as the movies progress (Sonic 1 gave him his red outfit in the end, Sonic 2 made him bald, gave him the signature stache and made him a bit crazy, Sonic 3 might be giving him his signature bulk and probably some other things) and it sucks that they'd have to use a fat suit in order to get Jim to look the part but I don't want it them to phone it in as something like it being an effect of absorbing the Master Emerald and I'll be real disappointed if its something like 'oh, he just let himself go'
Maybe Eggman had a scientific reason to bulk up, or maybe he just thought he looked good with some extra weight, or maybe it is a side effect of something but he knew about it before hand and was okay with it. As long as its more of a choice then I think I'd be more okay with it.
we dont really have the full context yet of course but the descriptions of the teaser going around are making it sound like they went with the "he let himself go and gained a lot of weight" explanation. and idk man maybe it just sounds bad out of context but im tired of fatness being portrayed as gross and a negative trait and weight gain being used to signify a character becoming Worse in some way. fat people are just people and the body type someone has doesnt have any morals attached to it. again maybe it just sounds bad out of context and the movie wont make his weight gain into a joke but my hopes arent high because being weird about fat people is not new for sonic media at all

#shocked with myself (maybe pleasantly surprised? is the right phrase)#at actually liking barbie a great deal more than i had prepared myself to#it was just a lot more sincere than i had expected; i was afraid it wouldn't be/be more on the snarky side of cinema lately#but it was strangely so much more heartfelt than that#of course some points felt rushed/too on the nose#but the girls and ryan gosling made me so happy#and her at the end saying (spoilers obvs) that yes YES she does want to take life by the hand and pay the price to live and live#also as a former representative of unrequited love the throughline felt a lot gentler than i was prepared for it to be#it was a lot more about emotion and the joy of growing up and growing old than i expected#i don't necessarily think its heart is as pure as a truly great movie??#but it didn't laugh AT you. it made you laugh and it also meant what it said#which idk idk in a sea of endless winks at the camera laughing obnoxiously loudly media i appreciated the at least#wanting to live and live well aspect of it all and how it took that seriously#like someone on my dash said. i don't really know if it was a good movie?? but the borders of my mind are stretched#something in me is dreaming because of it. so i think that at least is worth it all#also all the girls in the theater laughing their heads off did something to me!!!#there were countless friends (including mine) decked out in pink and it was so so so sweet to me#(anyway. you didn't need these thoughts and maybe I'll retract it later when I've come down from the high of hugging both my buddies)

for all my grievances with tangled the series, one thing i cannot criticize them for is their songs, i mean, sure, not all of them make sense in context (let me make you proud comes to mind), the songs are spectacular, from the vocals to the instrumental, all of them are a joy to listen to, whether they are just incredibly goofy, like the buddy song, to heartbreaking, like waiting in the wings, whether its a solo, a duet or a group, they are wonderful to listen to
#i like the show. dont get me wrong.#though i cant deny there are a lot of flaws to the series n character n story decisions that dont make sense n infuriate me#and i will say imo season 1 is where its at its best. although yes flaws are present they dont. idk. ruin the season for me#but i cant say the same for the later two seasons. i mean. i had fun with s2 n liked the new characters but. a lot of it again imo is fille#but s3 is the worst imo cause the stakes are so high but they spend like 2-4 episodes actually on the main plot#n the rest is just. pointless filler. i mean. did we really need to learn more about fucking nigel of all characters#n i will say i am not a fan of cass' arch at all. i liked her in the first season n most of the second season but s3 just. ruins her for me#i also dont like how they treated euguene most of the time. he deserved to be treated better. he was the other main character in the movie#he deserved to be treated better not put in the back so as not to outshine cass n rapunzel's relationship#cassunzel this it not a critique of you. i liked the ship in the beginning to n i love the poly of cass rapunzel n euguene#n you can ship them to your hearts content. im just annoyed at the disrespect of euguene lol#can you tell that im passionate about the show. i mean. the potential was there but. they didn't do nothing with it.#im upset it couldnt be better lol#anyway what was i talking about#right the songs. the songs are spectacular (despite almost all of them not making sense in the context of the shows)#n are a joy to listen to. i love them all so much that i dont think there's any i dislike really. the songs are so so good#n are really fun to listen to. its one of the things that i can never fault the show for. they're wonderful n everyone should listen to the#even if you havent watched the show lol they're great#tangled the series#tts#strawberry speaks
