FIC RECS | Namjoon Nerd AU

This is based on a recent ask I received from @monovcut.. Thank you! I had fun making this list

I almost included other fics where he’s the smart dude, the genius, the scientist, the smart professor, etc. but I focused on scenarios where Namjoon is smart but has this quality about him that’s either shy or weird or awkward that makes him oh so adorable? Maybe not blatantly so in some of the fics, other times more pronounced. I also read various genres so you will be surprised at how the list will feature fics from sugar daddy au to fantasy-themed.

Namjoon has this image of being a “geek” or “nerd” but OC just has heart eyes for “her nerd”. I guess, this story is about timing too. I really like this and I can’t wait to see how the story will turn out

I just love how the writer described the perfect way to simp and thirst over Namjoon - respectfully and also crazily. Okay wait I was supposed to talk about Namjoon and how he fits this fic rec list.. Okay, I actually like our OTP!!! They just have this smart and quirky vibes to them that leads to quirkiest conversations like talking about bonobos and going over kinks and orgasms while doing lab work (lol). For two people who are super smart, they are so oblivious and this makes their whole fwb situation interesting. I just love how these two smarties are just perfect for each other and being the Christmas-enthusiast that I am, it’s such a perfect setting to realize a thing or two.🥰

🌷This is a classic fandom fic for this kind of trope and it’s actually one of the fics I first thought of when I got this ask. You get your stereotype nerd (also labeled as a “loser” by others) and one popular MC who gets the pretty but dumb and shallow image (she’s actually smart though). The dynamic and how these two seemingly mismatched characters, by society’s standards at least, get to develop their relationship is a wonderful process to witness (I guess I should put “slow burn” in the tags too).. As MC discovers more about Namjoon and how much she likes Namjoon, MC goes through this self-awareness and realization too. It’s nice to see her thought process because she is more than the glossy and glittering image people associated her with. Namjoon has this line about how we overthink things when we feel our actions do not align with our beliefs and we just need to be more self-aware about our limits and what we want. Okay I guess this is becoming a full review but if you like to see good character and relationship development between the nerd x popular trope, then this is such a great read =)

The Rich Man’s Crochet Club @kpopfanfictrash - one shot | 32.4k | College AU, virgin!Namjoon, comedy, crushing on OC | f, s

🌷This is really more of an OT7 fic to me? It felt like watching an American sitcom with this group of virgin guys as the lead characters and how they lost their v-card. In this episode, we focus on Namjoon as the only remaining virgin in the RMCC. It’s such a fun read to see how the boys draw up a “battle plan” for Namjoon. They kept putting these strategies that don’t seem to work only for them to realize that Namjoon just needs to be his nerdy self to get the girl. OC is kind of nerdy too so it was cute to see their few interactions (the boys’ reactions are making it so comedic tbh). The other members get a spin-off and we reunite with the gang later at Namjoon’s wedding to OC in The Monogamy Monologues (it’s a Jungkook story though)

Banks. Barclay. Barker. Bowen. They’re all names staring at you as you try and grip their spines with sweaty hands.

This must be a dream. Professor Kim fucking you against one of the stacks of books in a hidden corner of the library. You were just supposed to show him where that one geology book he requested was. His grip on your hips tightening, the material of your skirt bunched around your waist, your pants slipped to the side the material rubbing across your clit as it’s stretched taught, his trousers are only opened enough for his dick to be out. You fancied him and his smart brain, thought you made it pretty obvious whenever he came into the library to borrow books off you. You just never thought he felt the same way back, thought him sticking around for chats was him indulging you and being kind.

It seems you were wrong, what with him currently bending you over and shoving his dick in and out of you. They always say it’s the quiet ones that surprise you the most.

“Not even finished with you yet and I already can’t wait to do this again.”

His hand comes to your clothed breast and squeezing it he pulls you up so your back is pushed flush with his front. His dick is so deep now, his pace a lot slower as he grinds into you. His lips by your ear you’re in the perfect position to hear those little whimpers escaping him.

“Want to feel you come around me.”

One hand massaging your breast, the other starts to rub at your half-covered clit. His hips start to snap up into you. Short, sharp movements that have you moaning and searching for some sort of purchase.

“That’s it,” he mumbles, obviously feeling you tightening around him. “Come on, baby.”

It’s as if the words are a spell. Or maybe it’s just that nickname again, this time mumbled right against your ear. Or it’s possibly his dick doing amazing things as it attempts to rearrange your insides. Or possibly either of his hands which are working away at every and any sensitive bundle of nerves they can find. Whatever it is you come undone around him, moaning out about how great it all feels.

You never would have thought Professor Kim Namjoon would make you come, let alone in front of the Geology books in the library. But he does. And shit, if it isn’t the best feeling you’ve ever felt.

you know

now that you think about it, it probably wasn’t a good idea to break up with namjoon because a) he is the absolute love of your life and you can’t imagine going on without him but aLSO b) …the two of you are co-workers

so it was a little awkward coming into the library this morning and seeing namjoon sitting behind the counter

and it was a little awkward saying good morning to him when four days ago you told him that it’d be better for the two of you if you didn’t see each other anymore

and it was especially awkward having to put books back into their slots while namjoon was pushing the book cart along right behind you

he usually reads the serial number out loud so that you know exactly where to put the book back in a quick and efficient manner but instead he just handed the books to you without a single peep

you’re finding it pretty hard to (no pun intended) read namjoon

usually it’s easy to tell how he’s feeling whenever you look at his face but right now it’s just… nothing.

you see nothing

there’s so much that you want to say to him but it’s pretty clear that he doesn’t want to talk to you right now

which is completely understandable, of course

every time you close your eyes you just see namjoon’s sad little face staring right back at you

and-

“i will accept this breakup if you can give me one logical reason as to why we don’t belong together.” the sound of books being ploppED onto the counter has you looking up from the monitor

“what?”

namjoon props both his arms up onto the pile of books before resting his cheek against his fist, “you heard me.”

“i-“ you clear your throat before letting out a chuckle, “i really don’t think right now is an appropriate time to be discussing-“

“no, now is the perfect time. we’re in the middle of a global pandemic. there’s literally nobody here.” namjoon reaches up to push up his glasses, “go on, y/n. just one good reason to explain why our relationship didn’t work out.”

“fine.” you lean back against the chair and cross your arms, “we’re complete opposites in terms of everything. you like classical music, i like pop. you like mustard, i’m more of a mayonnaise fan. you like oranges, i like apples. you prefer a night in, whereas i prefer to go out. it’s as simple as that, namjoon.”

you think that was a pretty solid point

you give yourself a mental pat on the back before looking up at namjoon with a particularly cocky smile

opposites attract, sure… but not complete opposites, right??

you can’t be with someone who supposedly isn’t compatible with you whatsoever!

“that would’ve been a good argument, except for the fact that you love that we’re complete opposites.” namjoon points out, “you once said that it adds more spice to our relationship.”

you poke your tongue against the inside of your cheek when you realise that namjoon is (unsurprisingly) correct

you DO love that the two of you are like water and oil because it just makes you appreciate and love namjoon more!!

you love hearing him talk to you about the history of the fibonacci sequence (well, you don’t loVe hearing about it, but still) because it makes you think about how lucky you are that you get to learn about new things every day!

okay, well…

you can come up with something else, right?

“we’re breaking up because… you’re too dorky for me and… i don’t vibe with that aesthetic, you know?” you shrug before shaking your head

yeah okay

that definitely wasn’t a good reason

now you’re just grasping at straws

namjoon scoffs and resists the urge to burst into a maniacal CACKLE

that’s a funny joke!!!

“hey, remember that time you wore my glasses AND one of my cardigans while riding my-“

you immediately shoot up from your chair before slapping a hand over namjoon’s mouth

“okay, fine, whatever-“ you grumble as you pull your hand away, “i don’t know, then. i guess i… i don’t know.”

namjoon is quiet for a couple of seconds before he speaks up again, “do you love me?”

that question has you looking straight up at him and you find yourself nodding before you even know it, “of course i love you.”

“okay.” namjoon nods, “and you know that i feel the same way about you, right? you know i love you.”

you’re not sure why but your throat is starting to tickle and you can feel your eyes starting to glaze over a little

you immediately lower your gaze

“y/n…” namjoon reaches over to cup your cheek with his hand and you nuzzle into it instinctively, “i love you, you know that. i just… i’m struggling to understand why you… why you’re giving up on us… you have to meet me halfway here-“

“-i feel like i’m not good enough for you!” you’re bursting into tears a millisecond later and namjoon’s heart clenches in his chest at the sight of you being so clearly distraught over him

“baby, no-!” namjoon abandons his books to join you behind the counter, “how could you ever think that??”

he sits down in his own chair and you let him plop you down onto his lap

“you’re just- you’re so sm-smart and i, i literally don’t know an-anything and i-i always feel so stu-stupid-“ you sob and reach up to wipe at your hot cheeks, “i just- i just feel like you’d be happier with someone who’s more on your l-level and i’m clearly not that person-“

“y/n-“ namjoon shakes his head, “you-“

“i j-just want you to be happy and i thought this would be the right decision-“

(I’m not sure but I think my ask got cut out in half) Can you please write a Namjoon Drabble where he is really really in love with kinda insecure reader, and one time a random man makes a random disrespectful/mean comment about her and Namjoon gets angry and really protective? He then would comfort or reassure her! Sorry this isn’t smutty, I just wanna read some fluffy domestic stuff so bad 🤣

It was probably the sixth time that week when he went to that library, the sixth book he read that week, the sixth bottle of orange juice he bought from the jukebox in the corner of the full of book shelfs room.

What was the reason of all of these? You. You were working there. You, the shy girl no one usually notices, with your cute and simple outfits, with your cute round glasses you used to wear when you were reading or typing on your white computer, you, the simple, yet so kind and heartful girl. You, his secret crush.

He first saw you when his friends took him in that library, weeks ago, because they were in urgent need for materials, for finishing a project for the Chemistry class with Miss Green. Namjoon had already finished his project, of course, he was such a smart and hard working boy, but there he was. Sitting at a table, in the quiet place, filled up with shelfs, the smell of ancient books and dust, watching their friends, murmuring, in what it looked like being a useless try of finding the right materials.

Namjoon was honestly asking himself what is he doing there. It was not like he wasn't a fan of libraries, or books, in fact, he was spending most of his time in the library from beside his block, but that day he really didn't want to be there, when he could do something else, like writing some lyrics he would lately put into a song, somehow.

Holding his notebook, full of random thoughts and some lyrics, he got up, ready to leave, but while he was careful to sneak out, without his friends noticing, he bumped into someone, his note book, flying from his hand, his nose being hitten by a forhead, almost making it bleed.

"I-I am so sorry!" You sttutered, half bending, into a bow, glasses falling from your face, right on top of his note book, making your cheeks heat up even more. Namjoon picked up your glasses, handing them to you, his heart beating faster when he catched a glimpse of your flushed face, a shiver running through his body, when your delicate fingers touched his.

You picked up his notebook, as well and gave it to him, eyes avoiding his. He wanted to thank you, but you turned around, heading to your desk, where you took a nouvel and started to read it.

That's exactly the book he finished reading today, in hope he would finally gather the courage to talk to you, that book looking like a good subject to start with, the other books he read that week following, moving his usual place from his usual library to this one, your work place. He didn't usually read romance or fantasy, but now, because that was your favourite type of books, he ended up accepting it. Taking his heart in his hands, he rose up from his seat, eyes fixed on your figure, who were busy talking to a costumer.

The library was empty, you two being the only three left. Namjoon sighed, ready to turn around and leave, calling it another day, when he heard you whimpering in pain. He turned around faster than ever, glare fixed on you and the man beside you, who was gripping your wrist tightly, pressing you harshly against a shelf, his figure covering yours, dangerously.

"Who are you trying to fool with your round glasses and grandma like outfits, huh? You are a whore, we all know that!" The man almost barcked in your way, making tears run down your cheeks. Namjoon fist colided with his jaw, making the man fall off of you, into the floor.

"What the- "

But Namjoon kicked him again, this time right into his nose, breaking it. "No one can touch her or talk to her like that!" He almost growled

"Do you understand, you piece of shit?!" He hissed, between greethed teeth, making the man curse, holding his bleeding nose and leaving the library, leaving you two alone.

Namjoon turned around, staring at you, concern ridden on his beautiful face, his heart breaking seeing your cheeks wet of tears. His hand moves its own way to your cheek and reaching for it, he wiped away the tears, making you slightly jump, staring at him.

Namjoon couldn't resist anymore and taking your wrist in his hand, gently, not like that guy, he pulled you to him, embracing you into a warm, bear hug, one of his big hands resting against your back, rubbing circles on it, the other one gently caressing your hair, keeping your face burried into his neck.

"Y/N... you are so gorgeous, so smart, so kind, so sweet, such a well educated girl, don't listen to that jerk. I know you probably don't know me, but I came here every day to see you. Wanted to talk to you the whole time... I really find you amazing, Y/N" he said, hugging your smaller frame closer and tighter to his firm chest.

"I actually didn't like these books, but they were your favourite ones, couldn't stop thinking about you, I literally like everything in you and I know you probably don't- ...."

"I like you too, Namjoon." You said, making him pause, his eyes widening in shook, causing you to let out a giggle who almost made him drop into his knees.

"I also spied you." You said, wrapping your arms around him, making his heart beats grow faster and a huge, bright smile to rise on his face.

Hiiii cee, so question, we been knew that all of the couples are some kind of soulmate and are in that shit for life bUt, if u had to think of one or more -for whatever reason- who do you think would be more likely to break up for good?

hmMmm out of all of the couples i feel like maybe librarian!joon and y/n??? i know that opposites attract but in this case they’re literally comPLETE opposites so that might be something that could make them butt heads and eventually break up :-(( like y/n will get too into her head about how she’s not smart and well-read enough for joon which has always always been one of her biggest insecurities in their relationship and joon might find it difficult to make her feel better just because he’s?? not very good at comforting people?? and the argument will start off with something small like namjoon teasing y/n about how she said romeo and juliet was a “trajectory. what’s the word? tramedy?” (she was thinking of traGEDY) and joon would be like heeheehaha how do u not know the word tragedy u silly dum dum >:D but after all this internal buildup y/n will finally snap and just be like yeah!!!! yeah i am stupid!!!! okay!!! i’m a frickin idiot i get it!!!!

“i was kidding!! it was banter!!! you know i’m no good at banter- i just don’t understand why you’re getting so hyped up about thi-”

“well, you’re clearly the smarter one out of the two of us. i’m just the dumbass, right? i’m always the dumbass!” you snap as you slap your book shut, “god, you always have to rub in my face how much better you are than i am-”

“i have never- when have i ever done that?!” namjoon gawks before scoffing, “you’ve been so... so on edge lately and i don’t know if it’s something i’ve done or if it’s something to do with your courses because you won’t talk to me about it-”

“why don’t you go figure it out??” you cross your arms and huff, “you’re the one with the bigger brain-”

“i don’t want to figure it out if you can just tell me the answer right now!” namjoon throws his arms up into the air, “y/n, just talk to me, you know you can talk to me-”

you resist the urge to throW your book at namjoon as you get up off his couch

you can’t explain why you’re getting so worked up over his harmless little comment

it’s just... you know he doesn’t do it on purpose and his intention is never to hurt you but you always feel so inferior compared to namjoon whenever you guys are together

and it’s hard to pretend that everything is okay when the question that’s always on your mind is ‘am i good enough for him?’

he deserves to be with someone who can keep up with all his novel references

someone who understands all the dorky philosophy jokes he makes

it’s not just because you don’t understand what he’s talking about half of the time that you’re feeling this way

it’s hard to explain

you feel like you’ve wasted his time

you feel like he knows he can do better

you feel like he deserves to be with someone who...

who isn’t you.

maybe you’re just being dramatic about this but you know that you can’t be here right now

there’s just a loT going through your mind and you need to figure this out on your own without namjoon freaking out in front of you

“oh, i see, so you’re just going to leave, then?” namjoon shakes his head when you start shoving your things back into your purse, “just do what you always do, y/n - panic and leave when things get hard-”

“i think we should break up.” the phrase slips from your mouth before you even realize it and you’re able to pinpoint the exact moment namjoon’s heart splinters in his chest

(his eyes flicker and his shoulders droop)

“wh- what?” namjoon blinks cluelessly, “what do you mean-”

you shrug as you chew on the inside of your cheek anxiously, “we should break up.”

“but- but i-” namjoon’s eyes start to glaze over and you swallow the lump growing in your throat, “i-i don’t- i don’t understand-”

this’ll be better for the two of you in the long run, right? (no)

namjoon will find someone better suited for someone of his stature and you’ll...

well, you’ll probably find someone.

you’re making the right decision, right? (no)

you’re 100% sure about this, right? (no)

if you truly loved namjoon, you know that this is the right thing to do... and you do love namjoon with every fibre of your being, so...

“You’ve seriously got it bad,” Yoongi chuckled at you as he walked towards his seat next to you at the information counter.

“What? Got what bad?” You furrowed your brows at him as you set down the book you were reading; well, more like staring at the past hour and a half.

“That handsome man over there,” he pointed over to the cute guy wearing a green sweater and glasses, “has come in every other day, 11 o’clock on the dot and you stare at him the entire time he’s here.”

Immediately you felt your entire face burn in embarrassment. While it was true, he was definitely one of the frequent patrons of the library you worked at, always arriving at the same time. He’d definitely caught your eye as you reshelved books, so you’d always spare him a couple glances, just in case he might need help or anything, but he never did. “I do not stare at him!” You hushed in defense. Yoongi raised his eyebrows at you, a silent challenge. “Okay, but not the entire time.” You rolled your eyes as you picked up the book you set down, ready to return to your cover.

“That’s obvious, because if it was the whole time: you would’ve noticed by now that he stares back.”

“Excuse me, what?” Your head spun around so quickly, your glasses nearly fell off your head. It was Yoongi’s turn to roll his eyes at you before letting his eyes flicker over to where the handsome stranger sat. Focusing all your attention to the corner of your eye, you managed to spot him directly looking back at you! He must have caught on to you looking back because he quickly reverted his eyes back to the book in front of him, attempting to hide behind the cover of his novel. “Holy shit.” You whispered.

“Yeah, now go ask him out.”
