#let the jedi adopt people as well!

Note
hi, your post about Padawan Shenanigans was very excellent, and also im so intrigued by the bit you put in the tags about the padawans adopting a random sad mando. just. normally the trope is that a mando adopts a sad padawan but i just think the concept of a sad middle aged mando getting unexpectedly adopted by a jedi padawan is So Funny. poor mando is so confused. theyre getting smuggled into the temple like contraband snacks at the movie theater, and they go along with it because Its Been That Kind Of Day.
LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR AGGRESSIVELY SOCIAL JEDI
this is actually 100% intentional, you know. I THRIVE on trope-subversion and omg Jedi adopting random people or even mandos into their order is one of the big ones!
it's an obsession really!
you know, sometimes someone is just really jedi shaped. they don't even have to be force-sensitive. it's anout The Vibes. And also about helping people.
which is like what the jedi are all about.
Also, is there anything funnier to imagine than a Full Mando suddenly waking up in an unfamiliar place with the worst hangover ever only to realize he's been stashed under the bed of a child of their mortal enemy. But then they get the best hangover cure smuggled to them that they ever got to try, so....
poor master of that particular padawan almost gets a heart attack when they find a whole mandalorian stashed away in the spice cabinet, but it's fine bc they are very polite and also know how to make the best pancakes ever.

Clone wars hc
Been lurking on tumblr for a bit (while) and decided to throw my own clone wars hc cause the hyperfixation be hyper fixated (sorry for any spelling errors).
Kit Fisto and Obi-Wan are bffs - They both lose their robes and seem to flirt with anything that walks. meaning they have get togethers and give each other flirting advice.
Jocasta Nu and Admrial Yularen are BAMF, and are severly underrated. you don't get away with hurting someone they care about unpunished.
Rex's first thought of ashoka was "that's a child" followed by "that's a child on a battle field" and then "that's a child on a battle field with no clothes, what the kark".
One of the shinies from Monnk's battalion definitely asked Fisto (while high on pain meds) if he lactates and monnk and fisto lost their shit and couldn't stop laughing for 5 min straight.
Kix (and other medics by default) have tranq/hypo guns for any vode or jedi that try to leave med bay when on bed rest.
Fox and Amidala gossip and constantly talks shit about Palpatine
Kit Fisto Smile Supremacy, this man win's best smile, it never fails to cheer someone up.
Rex definitely twirls his guns before putting them in his holsters when he's done using them
Bly is obviously in love with Aayla, and he tries to hide it (and fails miserably) but he's so respectful about loving her and swooning, that Quinlan couldn't even give him a shovel talk.
the clones were absolutely baffled when they met the jedi's
Wolffe and Fox are twins, they might be at each others throats 90% of the time, but if you talk shit about the one of them, the other won't hesitate to beat your ass.
Monnk says the most off handed shit in a dead pan tone (ex. Monnk: well I'm not gonna live, laugh, love this. Fisto, laughing his ass off: I-I'm Sorry? Monnk: I'm just saying this is gonna be a bitch)
Plo Koon is Plo Buir, He's at least adopted the Wolf Pack and Ashoka
the 501st and Ashoka are siblings
Grey adopted Caleb Dume
The Iron Battalion/13th battalion took one look at Cal and immediately adopted him
Ponds isn't dead (cause fuck canon), he found Boba before his schemes could go off and made him a deal, He helps Boba plan the assassination attempts on Windu (he trust his general won't die, but he gave him more headaches) so there's no casualties, but slowly the attempts stop and now Boba just lives in the 91st venator's vents.
The first time Cody picked up Obi-Wan's lightsaber he thought it was so cool, and now he just wants to glue the damn thing into his hand
Hound spoils Grizzer, he absolutely adores the massif
Jesse make sure Kix is actually taking care of himself, and make sure he's not over working (and when necessary, he uses a hypo to make sure Kix sleeps, cause Kix will hold that over his head and pay him back for it)
Fox and Thorn are opposites but they are really close
The corrie guard has a list of all the good and bad senators
The most forms that Monnk and Cody (and occasionally Ponds) fill out are forms for more robes
Cody's name is Kote (but goes by Cody cause so many nat borns mispronounce it) and Obi-Wan randomly asked if that was his name, and Cody was just utterly shocked
After Umbara, Fox say a very traumatized trooper (it's Dogma) who is facing shitty consequences for doing the right thing and adopts him into the guard
After Kix woke up from his stasis and found artoo's (again, fuck canon) he would stay up on nights he couldn't sleep and watch videos of him and his vode from artoo's memory bank
Clones using their Jedi's lightsaber - Cody using Kenobi's lightsaber after he loses it for the millionth time, Rex using it to back ventress away from ashoka, Fox finding quinlan's in a dumpster (with quinlan in said dumpster)
Hound let's grizzer purposely tackle people when he can easily apprehend them because it's funny or because whoever he's chasing pissed him off and he's petty
Yoda is the ultimate menace (like srs palpitine hates his ass, but yoda -and everyone else- hates him even more)
Yoda still keeps in touch with Rys, Jek, and Thire (mainly Thire) after the treaty or smth
The Corrie found Quinlan Vos in a dumpster and now he won't stop bugging them (expecially Fox)
Fox is a walking encyclopedia of every republic laws, you do one minor thing wrong and he can quote every law you broke, word to word
A trooper (let's call him Sharks) from Fisto and Monnk's battalion can just get a group of sharks to gather around, at every planet, every time, without fail
Plo's disappointed dad sigh can make a separatist army fold into defeat
Kenobi absolutely loathes caf, he hates it with a passion
Each high ranking clone officer has to deal with something of their jedi - Cody has to deal with Kenobi flirting with seperatist and losing his lightsaber, Rex has to deal with his general constantly crashing ships, his batshit crazy plans and his general continuously using the force to throw him, Monnk has to deal with his general randomly "shedding" clothes, and all the clones have to deal with their generals and commanders not wearing armor (Except for Jaro Tapal, HE'S THE ONLY ONE WHO WEARS ARMOR)
Corrie Guard can sleep standing up, very useful when guarding in the pods during senate meetings
The nice Senators (mainly Chuichi, Amidala, and Organa) and Vos very often get things for the Coruscant Guards, and whenever the guard see's the gifts they are baffled and bamboozled
Rex called dibs on Domino squad after the moon mission
Echo and Fives without hesitation took Tup and Dogma under their wing
Fives, Hardcase and Jesse started a prank war in the 501st that accidently evolved into a GAR wide prank war (with Coruscant being neutral ground, cause the guard doesn't need to deal with that shit, doesn't mean they don't help out)
Fox holds ALL the blackmail, and has multiple informants in every battalion, plus he has the power to withhold caf shipments
Fox also regularly reads his batchmates mission reports to mae sure their ok
The Corrie guard accidently adopted a stray tooka and a loth cat, now they're the guards emotional support animals
Rex keeps complaining about his brothers flirting with their jedi's that he didn't even realized that he third wheeled between Anakin and Padme that he joined their relationship
every mothers or fathers day without fail, shaak ti and plo koon always gets presents and gifts from their children (troopers and cadets.... and ashoka)
Coric is Kix's Ori'vod, he didn't admit it at first but Kix grew on him and well medics stay togeth
Coric purposely avoided being CMO of the 501st because they are hellions, Kix wanted to strangle him after he realized what being CMO of the 501st meant
Rex was on the 212th with Cody when Anakin was still a padawan
Rex hates evals, natural blonde plus Kamino is a recipe for hell. Also he was shocked at Skywalker being nonchalant about his hair, Anakin just though it made him cooler
That's all I have for now, if you see any you've seen before my bad, I honestly just typed the first that came to mind and kinda spiraled from there. I'm just now starting to interact with tumblr, so I might upload more and maybe even some art if I can stay focused long enough.

Took a shower (thank the lord right) and accidentally created a new AU in my noggin be warned this one is super wild. Includes: Baby-Wan and ouchies and time travel
Obi-Wan goes back in time (whatever maybe he did it himself maybe someone did it to him maybe he did it on accident but it’s post ANH okay) and suddenly finds himself in his toddler body.
You know what his first thought is? Cody. And absolute grief because his soulmate HAD been there in the force with him but now he’s gone. So what does Cody make him think of? Jango. Which means he’s all ughhhhhhhhh I have to go save him, and manages to mindcontrol some guy into getting him off planet. So here he is four whole years old with all the adult emotions trapped in a baby body what can go wrong??? Pirates. Obviously.
Frankly the only reason he doesn’t feel bad about the guy he mind controlled cause he was already gonna end up here so. Whoops.
So who manages to find them of all the damn people? Jaster’s entire ship headed to Korda Six (yes I’m going there the force said ‘I’m gonna give the gays everything they want’ and started with a happy baby’) but having been waylaid by a sudden four year old WITH A KNIFE AND FERAL STUPIDITY on the bridge. He says his name is Cody, he cut Montrose on his calve and it IS gonna require surgery and he bites everyone. Especially Jango. Who is only ten and crying because an ik’aad bit him and Jaster is very torn between giving Jango kisses for his ouchie and helping catch the toddler that knows how to escape through vents and is staging a one toddler zero men mutiny and is loudly telling everyone he’s going to the Jedi.
Maybe he’s possessed. Maybe they can just take him to the Jetii for a quick exorcism and play blaster-armor-saber for who gets the honor of adopting his feral ass.
Till they come across a pirate ship beating up a stranded ship and that’s just not nice so well shit they gotta save them.
Which is how they end up with a traumatized Captain and a stowaway toddler who’s demanding to see Jango once he realizes what ship he’s on. Jango is grumpily dragged in to see him, gets baby attached to his chest (listen he is so over babies now you can let go anytime he’s not interested in getting bit again) and then the vent to the medical room and a feral toddler with a knife comes flying out and demands to get his love back right this fucking instant.
Jaster finally gets a hold of him, disarms him, and puts him in time out before asking who taught him that word that’s not an ad’ika word!
Cody, repentant because adult emotions in a baby body fills you up so much, cries and asks for cuddles. Jaster gives him cuddles before putting in on a cot with Obi-Wan who promptly forgets Jango exists and gives Cody shy baby kisses and holds his hand. Jango is relieved to not be the center of attention for a moment. Till Jaster promptly realizes no one told Obi-Wan who Jango is, why did Obi ask for him?? Obi says he’s a Jetii master trapped in a baby’s body.
Yeah so possession it is. They call up the Jetii and ask if they can come over for exorcisms n chill, the Jetii say they can give them one better can you plz pick up some stranded Jetii along the way? Don’t worry they can assess the situation and see if they need to come in for it. It’s Master Windu and Padawan Billaba! What a surprise! Obi had no idea this could be so easy!
Anyways. So he’s having trouble talking because let’s just say I’ve decided so, so he sorta throws his mental shields down and starts projecting at people, which along with giving EVERYONE a headache, instead of just Mace for once, gives the force the chance to snap a BUNCH of bonds in place. Like a master-apprentice bond with Mace. And vod’e bonds with Depa and Jango. And a Buir bond with Jaster. And a full fledged soulmate bond with Cody.
Anyways. Mace thinks he’s decided three things: he’s gotta (not wants to, but has to) get the senate to let them make an outpost in Mandalorian space so him and Obi can be with Obi’s new dad and family, he does NOT want to be a council member anymore because this is a fucking mess that’s gonna turn into a 6 day meeting for them, and yes, they need to go to the temple.
Anyways. Make Cody a small child and give him a knife is my solution to a lot of things actually.

I'm convinced that if the Jedi were a little more unhinged and thirsty that the clone wars never would have happened. Hear me out!
My timeline is more than likely going to be completely off on this, but just follow me here.
Like imagine that Mace Windu - or another jedi - for instance is a Senior Padawan or freshly knighted and he comes across the Haat Mando'ade. Let's say he sees Mand'alor Mereel and is just like "smash". Then he sneaks a picture and posts it onto the Jedi.net or whatever and with the picture puts "Smash" and then a poll that has two options: "Smash" and "Pass". Then lets say he sees Montross and is like "Hard Pass" and sneaks a picture of him as well and puts it up with "PASS" and adds in the comments that he has some rancid-ass vibes.
Then all the jedi respond by choosing "Pass" in the poll thingy and they all follow it up in the comments with "100% rancid vibes" and like "stay away" and "danger". Then there is one particular unhinged, thirsty Jedi that's like. "100% PASS... but also like, I could fix him though". And the other Jedi are like "Soldier down!" and "Force-speed Pilgrim!" and "RIP in the chat". Then that same Jedi and like "Okay, maybe I couldn't fix him, but like.... he could fix me!". The follow up responses are just like "RRRIIIIPPP" and "No, don't go to the darkside!" and like "You're taste just went and burned alive on Mustafar."
And like random people will be so confused because they'll hear random Jedi that are on missions together just out of nowhere say "Smash" or they'll randomly hear "Pass" and have no karking clue as to what they mean by that. 'Cause it's so out of context and the entire galaxy beliefs that they're magical celibate monks.
Then somehow the jedi's habit of doing that with just random ass people in the galaxy gets leaked and/or the Haat Mando'ade hack into their system and find it and they end up in tears of laughter and confusion. Somehow that happening saves the universe or something.
Like a Jedi sees Palpatine and is just like "such a hard PASS" and like "puking in my mouth and crying" and posts that the the Jedi.net and the poll blows up within like an hour with everyone dragging Palpatine in the mud for having "rancid vibes" and "looking like he sells children laced candy" and "big stranger danger energy" and like "hide your kids, hide your wife..." Somehow this leads to them figuring out that he's a sith lord and they off him with the help of the Haat Mando'ade that are just kind of there. 'Cause, these Jedi are unhinged, need an actual night of sleep, like a three month vacation at minimum, and obviously need at least one Haat Mando'ade around to keep them from getting themselves killed by throwing themselves off of karking 300+ story buildings without a jetpack and refusing to wear armor! So, they've decided to adopt/marry the lot of them and are refusing to return them to the Republic. The Jedi Order now belong to the Haat Mando'ade now and they will fight you to keep them.
And yeah, they all just kinda vibe together and save the universe and go on to kark some slavers up.

IT IS DONE!!!! NIMONA STARWARS AU!!!!!!!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ok so the story of this au! (or at least what I’ve been able to think up)
Time line: the clone wars doesn’t start until Ballister and Ambrosius are about to become Jedi knights
Ballister and Ambrosius where both trained by the great Jedi master Gloreth (yea she had 2 padawans! So what!!)
At some point Gloreth and the boys are on a mission, Ambrosius is currently separated from his Master and Ballister, and Gloreth and Ballister get jumped by separatists
When Ambrosius finally is able to find them, he see’s his master dead on the ground and Ballister holding both his own and her lightsaber with a rage in eyes
Ballister was arrested by republic authorities for suspicion of murdering his Master
(Cue that Ahsoka arc)
Ballister try’s to reason with the authorities and tell them who actually killed her, but to no avail
The Jedi council is no help either. They hold their own trial for him, he tried to reason with the council as well.
“Please Masters! Im begging you to believe me! I would never kill my master” “Ambrosius would say different.” “What..?” “When he found you, he sensed hatred. Anger” “please if you’d let me explain!” “We’ve hear enough. You Ballister boldheart, are no longer apart of this order.”
Ambrosius begrudgingly told the council that he saw the hate in ballisters eyes that day
The day before Ballister was supposed to be put on trial before the senate, he was able to escape and get off coruscant
Ambrosius was made a Jedi knight and a few days after bal escaped the clone wars stared
Note: Ballister and Ambrosius were not in a relationship cuz Jedi aren’t supposed to have attachments but they do have HUGE crushes on each other
~a few years later~ (maybe like 2 years)
Ballister has become a bounty hunter and has his own ship, bal doesn’t use his lightsaber but he has it unconstructed on his belt (like kanan)
I don’t really have a idea on how Nimona and Ballister met but it was probably on a job. It’s a good thing ballister has a extra room on his ship!!
Nimona did the foundling thing but the opposite way, child adopting the parent
Ok that’s all I got for now! Also I got no clue on how ballister lost his arm.
And as always I’m always open to suggestions!! I love hearing other people’s ideas!

"I can't file these."
"Why not?"
"These...well l...they're not considered people to be adopted."
"How do I change that?"
"You have to lobby with the Senate, and after that it's up to them. You're a very kind Jedi, and I wish you luck, but unfortunately at this moment you can't file."
"Thank you for letting me know."
Plo Koon walks about of one of the major adoption centers on Coruscant and looks at the carefully filled out flimsi-pads in his hands. His initial displeasure of learning the men that fought and died for the Republic weren't classed as people has returned triplefold, and he grips the paperwork with a frown.
No one was going to stop him.
However, he knows that fighting the Senate will take time, so he conspires with Bail Organa to do the closest thing he can in terms for his men.
-----
Wolffe looks at the small box in his hand, eyes flickering up to his equally confused men all around him. They'd been out training and returned to find wooden boxes for each of them sitting on their bunks, and none of them had to ask who they were from. No one seemed to want to open theirs, so Wolffe slowly does to reveal a leather braided bracelet with an inscription dotted along the woven strands. No bracelet is the same, some braided while others were inlaid with little slivers of colorful metal, but the base of each one is almost the same.
For my son's, my wolf pack
"Is..." No one is sure what to say, but Comet is not tearing up as he slips his bracelet on, admiring the touching gift from their buir. The boxes are all handled with care as the troopers slowly begin to slip theirs on, an excited chattering filling the room as they proudly show off to each other the differences.
Wolffe doesn't have to look to know that Plo is watching them from the hallway, and swells with pride as he slips his own one on.
While they may not be his in a legal sense, Plo hopes this small gift shows the care and love he holds for his children.

I saw your post defending the way Jedi adopt the children/accept them into their culture, and I absolutely loved it! It was so well-informed, and you are right: It is all there in the original content!
I find it very ironic that many people spew these lies about the Jedi when that’s exactly what the Empire did. Iirc, this argument of Jedi being “kidnappers” was actually fueled by Emperor Palpatine and the Empire in their campaign against the Jedi. They wanted to discredit them and make the people turn against them so that they could erase them all more easily. So I find it very ironic that these lies are now being upheld by some people as the truth. (Really, have people forgotten the Empire was created bases on the Nazi’s and their own racist strategies?)
You are not inmune to the Empire’s propaganda.
Please correct me if I’m wrong. I’m not as good at pulling examples and proof from all the SW content as you are.
Hi! Thank you for the very sweet ask! Navigating stuff in fandom like this can be difficult at times, because there has to be room for compassion and tolerance for disagreement, like it's fine if people disagree with my views, I'm not your mom, I'm not telling you want to do or say, especially since this is fiction, these are made up space stories. But there also has to be room to understand that sometimes our commentary on fictional stories are echoes of reflection of real world attitudes--we can't just go around spewing racist, sexist, homophobic commentary and be like, "It's just fiction, you can't get upset!" There's no easy line for any of this, no single hard set in stone rule for when it's truly just fiction and when it's an echo of a real world attitude, especially in Star Wars, which often draws influence from a lot of non-Western sources and traditional Western sources. (My general rule of thumb is: I think it's fair to criticize those things through the influences they have, but if your criticism is then ended with, "So that's why we shouldn't have or acknowledge any Buddhism/Black people/queer people/women in Star Wars!" then fuck right on off with that.) And I also understand a lot of the anti-Jedi attitudes (or at least what I've personally experienced of them) because I've talked a bunch of times about how I started out as pretty Jedi-critical myself! I did the whole, "They had grown stagnant and refused to evolve with the galaxy, so they needed to be wiped out." thing because nobody had framed it explicitly as what it was: a genocide. It wasn't until a friend and I were talking and they mentioned that lens of it that it just sort of crashed down on me, oh, that's literally what it was and genocide is never justifiable. I did the whole, "The Jedi failed Anakin and taught him to repress his emotions." thing as well, because I saw it all over the place in fandom and just automatically folded it into my view, until I went back and actually watched Lucas' movies and Lucas' animation (first six movies + first six seasons of TCW) and read his interviews, which blew me onto my ass when I saw Obi-Wan being supportive of Anakin, when I saw Anakin not listening to the advice he was given, when I saw that Jedi were expressing emotion all over the place, when I saw they were respecting other Force traditions in the galaxy. I can't speak to why so many people think badly of the Jedi, there's probably a thousand reasons and I'm only vaguely aware of like half of them, but I do think that it's often unpopular to promote the idea of emotional regulation already being achieved, instead of something to be struggled with. I think we're all primed by a lot of mainstream media saying that an explosion of anger is what will save the day. I think there's so much anger in the world today that we're all angry and being told to let go of it feels really insulting at times. (But, as someone who has lost years of my life when I was younger to anger, I gotta say, I am so much better off having let go of as much of that shit as I can. It was poison in my veins, carrying that anger around. I lost so many friendships and opportunities and just time to being miserably mad about stuff.)
I'm getting off topic of the kidnapping aspect about the Jedi, but a lot of it starts to swirl together in what I've experienced (especially people who try to put this stuff on my posts--thankfully, that's died down/I block the people who won't respect boundaries) and so I kind of bounce from one aspect of it to another.
I do think it's good to talk about these things--both from "it's fun to analyze the content of the story on a meta level" perspective and "here's how this echoes into and from the real world" perspective, like I enjoy saying, okay, here's what's actually said in the movies/TCW, but also I think talking about how the Jedi are Buddhist influenced is important because that means they're going to have values that are meant to be reflected in that and Western fandom has a really big problem of being derisive about non-Western influences or automatically saying they're wrong. (I come from anime/manga fandoms, let me tell you, it's a big problem.)
And, yeah, in a way where it's really awful, but I think one of the most well-done things Disney's Star Wars has done is that it's really focused on showing that the Empire was a fascist one and the propaganda they used about the Jedi are ones that are super relevant to the conversation.

Luke’s Love Life Headcanons
-Biggs was his first kiss and his first real love back on Tatooine, their relationship got put on pause when Biggs left for the Academy and Luke and was kinda looking forward to resuming and building on their relationship with him in the rebellion-and then Biggs immediately dies, WHOOPS
-Had a tiny crush on Han over the course of A New Hope but Leia staked her claim quite quickly, even if it took several more years for her to admit it, so he let that one go without much of a fight
-Luke and Wedge had a casual relationship during the rebellion, with Luke still kinda burned from his relationship with Biggs so they weren’t really serious, never exclusive and their were no deep romantic feelings there as the war always came first, but it was a good distraction and made for quite a few fun nights and a handful of dates on spare time. They kinda just naturally drifted apart after Endor when Luke got more caught up with doing Jedi stuff, but they are still very good friends
-Him and Lando also had a casual friends-with-benefits relationship that lasted about until Luke got more settled down with Din, Lando makes for a REALLY good sugar daddy, brilliant in bed and will spoil you rotten
-After the events of Mandalorian season 2, newly minted Mand’alore Din keeps visiting Luke’s Jedi school and one thing leads to another, with both being able to relate to the other’s struggle to rebuild their culture, and Luke realizes for the first time since Biggs he might be in LOVE love and that led to a confession and oh force Din liked him BACK and they kinda got in a relationship after that, though it was kinda a long distance one. Still their connection was strong enough that that did not matter and a few years later they got married, one for Luke’s people at the Jedi temple and another for Din’s people in the Mandalorian style. They don’t have any biological children but they adopt a girl Luke finds on Jakku named Rey so they have two kids, Grogu and Rey
(Also maybe he also is poly and forms a relationship with Mara as well as Din, but I haven’t decided yet, I have to work out if I actually want to do a ‘Legends-Canon hybrid AU or just ‘Canon but we ignore the bad parts’ AU)

@kanansdume, I am thinking about something. While I like the Jedi and agree with their overall philosophy on not being possessive of people and being mindful, I do have one reservation and something I have a hard time with the fandom romanticizing. I saw your post about how it was a moral failing for Anakin to not accept the Jedi as his family compared to Leia and the Organas. I am well aware of how Jedi do not kidnap babies and how similar that argument is to real life blood libel. That said, as an adoptee, adoption irl isn’t always this happy thing. Here in the states, it’s often been used by white evangelicals to adopt BIPOC kids, strip their culture from them and many adoptees do have trauma from that. I know the jedi let their members keep parts of their culture but that’s not how it goes for many real adopted kids. This isn’t a pro 50s nuclear family post btw, but is it wrong for someone irl to want to know their birth parents or even meet them or bond with them? I consider it less like Anakin being possessive of Shmi and more like Luke wanting to know his father. If an adoptive family is abusive/let you down or you struggle to truly fit in, and I am aware the Jedi were not abusive btw, is it a moral failure to not see them as your family? I know SW is for kids and meant to be a black and white fairy tale, but it also tackles some deeper sociopolitical subjects and I am a bit curious about this. I am not an Anakin apologist and don’t blame the Jedi for his crimes, but I don’t think adoption is as rosy as portrayed in SW.

Executive Cucumber's Thoughts on the Bad Batch 03x09!
Spoilers under the cut
Apologies for this being late, I worked overtime and then immediately went to rescue my sister and her kids from a car breakdown. I got overwhelmed pretty quick.
I really liked this episode, but as I was in a not great mood when I watched it, I didn't absorb as much as I normally do. (My mood really affects how much I enjoy something, regardless of quality. I was in a foul mood when I first watched Faster and was fairly critical of it. I was wrong.)
This is really the first time we've seen not beautiful weather on Pabu and that's terrifying.
CROSSHAIR IS PART OF A COMMUNITY!!! Have yall considered that he's never been a part of a community before? Like yes, he's has his family, but a community?
'Does it matter? We're not giving her up.' This man. I love this man. If Tech did not already reign Supreme in my heart, I think Crosshair would be my favorite character in Star Wars.
ASAJJ VENTRESS MY QUEEEEEEEEEN
Oh Omega, that story fell apart faster than Hunter's resistance to adopting you.
They leave a space for Tech 💔
Apparently those blood tester things that Qui Gon had were Jedi issue only.
YOU CAN DO IT OMEGA!!! Wrecker, honey, if Omega CAN do it, that means her life gets WAY harder.
They one hundred percent sent Crosshair to look at Tech's data because Hunter and Wrecker can barely do it.
'Go get a flower kid, I gotta beat up your dads'
Okay, I honestly think Hunter doesn't have the time for romance and could honestly see him as asexual, but-
HIS WAIST IS SO SLUTTY. HOW IS IT SO SLUTTY.
I don't think we've seen such well choreographed hand to hand fighting in animated Star Wars. Except maybe that time that Rex absolutely destroyed those Zygerrians. But I might be biased about that.
'SHE'S A WAR CRIMINAL OMEGA' Okay now I need to know what defines war crimes in this universe. Did they have space Geneva?
You know, good thing Echo's not here. He'd probably be WAY more pissed than these three.
'You're naive' says the man who was changed by the child saying people can change.
I love Crosshair's 'oh shoot she's right' face.
Wrecker's little gasp when Ventress looks at them is AMAZING.
I love it when Star Wars is using the Force to connect with animals.
I'm sorry, Hunter girlies, I guess we getting wet hair everyone except Hunter. (Though Ventress looks SO GOOD)
VENTRESS YOU QUEEN I LOVE YOU YOU'VE COME SO FAR (I haven't read dark disciple but my sister has, and she informed me that Vos' Dark Side training by Ventress culminated in him summoning a water monster and killing it. This is such a beautiful parallel that she calms it.)
Crosshair helping Omega on is my everything.
I really love that Crosshair has decided to give Ventress a chance, because he was given a chance. (And also I lowkey ship them in a one night stand kinda way. Crossajj is such a good ship name too)
DAD DUO.
I don't think Ventress is lying when she says Omega isn't Force sensitive. Omega doesn't show ANYTHING in this episode that implies that she's sensitive. Yes, she uses Batcher, but she'd trained Batcher with normal friend methods. I think that Ventress stops the testing prematurely before she can be more sure, because she sees the possibly unhealthy attachment the Batch have. It might also be to protect Omega to not know for sure. My personal theory is that Omega is slightly more sensitive than the average clone, but not to any natural talent degree.
Oh gosh, I'm so scared for the next few episodes. Ventress gives them such a clear warning. This episode did such a good job of getting the tension tight again.
I know some people call this episode redundant, but the characters NEED this in order to catch up. We as an audience knew that M Counts meant midichlorians. But the Batch had no idea. Sometimes, we need to let the main characters catch up with us.
(This is also why Tech as CX-2 works on a reveal level because the mystery isn't for us, it's for the characters)
But yeah, a great episode! I'm terrified for everything and everyone!
A quick note- I've seen people say that it's too late in the season for Tech to return. I'd like to remind you that it took exactly two episodes in season 2 to get us behind Crosshair's redemption. They can do a lot in a few episodes.

Round 6 *ding ding ding*
(This is where I stopped last time...)
Tup and "No one's ever going to hurt you again. I promise you that on everything I believe in."
Please and thank you, my love 💚💚💚
Never Again
Summary: You make a promise to Tup that he never asked for.
Pairing: Clone Trooper Tup x Reader
Word Count: 1745
Warnings: Reader is shot, Tup is Angry/worried, reader celebrates Diwali though I don't attach any specific ethnicity to them
Tagging: @trixie2023
A/N: I have an AU problem, I can't not make AUs they're so fun. Anyway, this was fun to write, and I think I'm happy with it. Also, I kept my description of Diwali very vague since I researched for five minutes rather than a deep dive.

Alright, let’s do this one more time.
10 years ago, when you were just a little teeny-bopper from Manhattan, you were bitten by a radioactive spider, and you became the one, and only, Arachne. You saved some people, like your adoptive mom and your grandma, but you weren’t able to save others, like your adoptive dad and your brother.
The most important thing you learned in 10 years as Arachne is to always, always get up. No matter how hard you get hit. No matter how much pain you’re in. Staying down means death.
Three years ago, while in the middle of a fight with Kingpin, something weird happened.
Well, weirder than usual for New York.
A portal opened beneath you, and you fell. And when you landed, you weren’t in New York anymore.
Hell, you weren’t on Earth anymore.
It took you three months to determine where you were (Coruscant), and another two months after that to determine that there was likely no way to return to New York.
You’ve always been pretty good at adapting to new situations, so within a year of arriving on Coruscant, you had a new identity (well, the same identity, just all your documents claim you’re from Coruscant now, rather than New York) as well as a pretty good job (ironically, the tech in your world is more high tech then the tech here, which is so, so depressing-), the the friendly neighborhood Arachne is officially retired.
After all, Coruscant has the Jedi, it doesn’t need a web-slinging superhero.
And then the war starts.
And at first you weren’t going to get involved. Not your monkeys, not your circus. Plus, you’ve read enough science fiction about tampering with things that are supposed to happen, and the last thing you want to do is make things worse for people-
And then you met Tup.
Sweet Tup. Kind Tup. Gentle Tup.
Tup, who smiles at you like you confuse him a little, but laughs at your bad jokes.
Tup, who you teach to bake cookies in your too small apartment with your side pressed against his.
Tup, who’s destined to die.
You remember the day when you realized you had to get involved like it was yesterday. It was Diwali, and it wasn’t your first time celebrating it here, in Coruscant, but you invited Tup because, well, celebrating Diwali alone is just depressing.
You cooked all of your favorite foods, or, well, as close as you could with the food available to you on Coruscant, and you sat across from Tup and you watched him try all of the food, while you regaled him with the stories you grew up with, the stories your mother and grandparents told so enthusiastically-
And he grinned at you, a lopsided smile, and asked if he could invite some of his brothers next year. He asked if you minded if the Clones adopted this holiday for themselves-
And you remembered that Tup was meant to be dead within a year.
So you smiled at him, and told him that of course he could, and that you’d be more than happy to share other holidays from your culture. And by the time Tup left at the end of the night, with an entire tote filled with leftover food, you had come to a decision.
Tup will not die. You won’t allow it.
And, well, you’re from a world where all of this stuff was a movie. You know what’s supposed to happen. You know when it’s supposed to happen. And you have the ability to stop it.
So you pull your suit on, and strap your web slingers to wrist, and you pull your hood on, and for the first time ever, Coruscant meets the one, and only, Arachne.
Of course, back on earth you had a team of people who helped you. And the people of New York loved their spider person.
You don’t have that support network here.
And it only took a few days before you were listed as a threat to the people of Coruscant.
It takes three months.
Three months of hard work. Three months of skipping sleep in favor of investigating to find proof that Palpatine is as evil as you know he is. Three months of anxiety that you don’t have enough time to save Tup.
And then you have it. The proof of the chips. The proof of Palpatine’s plan.
And then you’re shot with a slugthrower.
Not your first time getting shot, but it’s not like you develop an immunity to bullets. You use a web to stop the bleeding, and you make your retreat. You stick to the shadows, clinging to walls and only swinging from building to building when you know it’s safe.
And you eventually make it back to your apartment.
You zip through the open window, and land on the ceiling, your hand pressed over your side, where the bullet ripped a hole in you, and then your spidey sense pings.
You lift your head and your gaze locks with Tup’s.
“Oh. Shit.” You breathe out under your breath.
Tup grabs his blaster and immediately takes aim, and you swear, “Wait! Waitwaitwait!” You say quickly, and then you rip your mask off, “It’s just me, Tup.” You say, “Please don’t shoot me. I’m already holy.” You giggle at your own joke, “Get it, because I was shot?”
Tup’s jaw is slack, “What the actual hell, cyare?”
“Because I have a hole in my sid-”
“Not about that! What is this?” He gestures to you and the ceiling and the suit, “Are you wearing spandex?”
You look down at your black and purple suit, and then look back at him, “I look amazing.”
“You…” Tup takes a deep breath, and folds his hands in front of his face, “Cyare. Get off the ceiling. Now. Please.”
You flip off the ceiling, and land lightly on your feet, “Ta-dah?”
“You realize that every single member of the GAR is hunting you, right?” Tup demands.
“Yeahhh-”
“There’s a shoot on sight order!”
“That does explain why the Corries shot me-”
“Cyare! What’s going on? What is all of this?”
You fold your hands in front of your face, “Uh…okay.” You smile brightly, “Chancellor Palpatine is a Sith Lord who is orchestrating this entire war from behind the scenes. You and your brothers have biochips in your brains that are designed to overwrite your free will. Palpatine’s plan is to use those chips to order the clones to murder all of the Jedi, including the babies, and create an empire where he’s the absolute ruler.” You say, very quickly, “I have proof.”
“...what.”
“Oh, also,” You add, “Your chip is degrading. You’ll get decommissioned for the murder of a jedi, and I refuse to let that happen, so I got involved.”
Tup’s complexion has gone a little gray, “What?”
“I spent the last three months looking for the evidence I needed. And I was worried that I was going to run out of time, so I asked Rex to keep an eye on you-”
“Is that why my brothers have been hovering around me so much recently?” Tup demands.
“Yeah. Sorry.”
Tup closes his eyes, and sighs again, “You said you have proof?”
“I’m bringing it to the Jedi as soon as I finish stitching myself up.” You reply.
Tup stares at you, “You’ve lived on Coruscant for over a year, but you only recently got involved…why?”
You hesitate, and then you flash a small smile, “No one’s ever going to hurt you like this. I promise you that on everything that I believe.”
“You’re doing all of this…for me? Why?”
You meet his gaze evenly, “Because I love you.”
Tup’s hand falls to his side, “Oh.”
“And I want you to be alive more than anything else.” You continue, “Even if you don’t feel the same. Even if you hate me because of the whole…Arachne thing. That’s what it means to love someone.”
He stares at you for a long minute, and then he laughs, “You’re so…stupid.”
“Yeah…I’ve heard that before.”
He crosses the room in several large strides, and he brings his hands up to cup your face, “You could have asked for help.”
“Didn’t want to get you involved.” You admit as you close your eyes and lean into his touch. “Didn’t want you to get hurt.”
“Well,” He replies, “I am involved, and I don’t want to see you get hurt either.” Tup gently strokes your cheeks, “You said you were shot?”
“Yeah,” You gesture to your web coated side.
“Let me call Kix-”
“I have a fully stocked first aid kit in my bedroom, Tup. I can stitch myself up. I can’t…he’ll recognize a bullet wound, Tup. I can’t risk that. Not when I’m so close.”
“...fine. But I’m helping.”
“Deal.”
You allow him to help you into the bedroom, and you gratefully sit on the bed as he vanishes into the bathroom to grab your first aid kit. You strip the top part of your costume off, and you grimace as you poke the hole in your side.
“Cyare-” Tup pauses when he sees you sitting on the bed without your top on, “This is a full trauma kit,” He continues.
“Yeah, I know. There should be a sterile needle and thread at the bottom.” You reply.
Tup sets the box next to you, his gaze darting from scar to scar on your torso, “Cyare…some of these injuries-”
You smile at him as you dig the needle out of the crate, “At some other point in time, I’ll tell you about some of my greatest foes.”
“Including the one that tried to skewer you?”
“Which one?” You ask with an amused smile.
“Babe-”
“Sorry, sorry. Not funny, I know.” Your smile becomes soft and warm, “Thank you for staying, Tup.”
“Yeah, well…” He takes the needle and moves behind you, “I’m still angry. This is stupid and reckless, but…well, you do what you have to when you love someone, right.”
“Yeah…wait-” You crane your head to look at him, “Tup?”
“Hold still, I'm trying to give you stitches.”
“Yeah, I get that, can we talk about-”
“Absolutely not.”
“But-” You stop when you feel his lips, warm and soft against the back of your neck, and you feel your entire body heat with sudden embarrassment.
“Later.” Tup promises with a small laugh, “Now. Hold still, this is probably going to hurt.”

Hi! For some reason it wont let me ask from the blog I want it to, which is why the random name, but I really love your stuff! Quick question - what do you think would he Dooku/Sifo Dyas/Jocasta/Jaster’s main rule(s) for Padawans/foundling-child-thingy?
Sorry if this is boring or smthing its just Ive decided your word on these things is law!
Thank you!!! Xxxxxxx
eyyy!! never apologize for blessing my inbox with asks! especially not about the blorbos!!
Now, I'm not entirely sure on what you mean with 'what their main rules on children' are.... but that just means my answer gets to be more elaborate.
Sifo-Dyas:
In my head he is the most child loving of the bunch. He would THRIVE on taking a Padawan and honestly I could even see him have a biological child most out of all four of them. But he bars himself from either because of his visions – since there's no telling on how they would interact with a Master/Padawan bond or smt similar he isn't willing to risk a child's wellbeing for his own desires.
That being said, he lives all the more vicariously through Dooku and Jocasta when they take Padawans. (As well as visits the Crèche any day he can) In any universe he and Jaster are a thing he definitely tries his best to be of assistance there as well, even if just as a long-distance-father. He doesn't care if someone claims it's attachment. Raising children is only good and just and if he can help in ANY capacity he will do so and you'd have to kill him first to make him stop.
(And even then his Force ghost probably would find ways to meddle)
Dooku:
Dad-in-denial-supreme.
His stuck-up ass will loudly proclaim he doesn't like children and that they are too noisy and erratic and then turn around and immediately take the next best street urchin under his wing. Provided they look at a lightsaber with even a modicum of interest.
I mean, considering the NUMEROUS apprentices he has in the different flavors of canon (Rael, Qui-Gon, Komari, Sev'rance, Grievous, Assaij, Savage) this man simply is MADE to teach.
In fact, people wiser than me (hi Jess), have famously said that he'll actually go stir-crazy if he doesnt have someone to drill in makashi.
He isn't the best at emotions, but that's what he has Sifo for. And also he WILL offer each and every one of his Padawans/Apprentices/pseudo-children a place in House Serenno's actual lineage, even if just to spite his dead father and brother. But only after they turn 18/are knighted. Whichever comes first. (similarely to Jaster, he refuses to paint any more of a target on a child's back than strictly necessary)
Jaster:
As absolutely child-loving as most Mandos are. He would have adopted many more children already if not for the target that his existence as Mand'alor paints on them.
So while he tries to find them good homes, unless he is directly responsible for them or honor bound in some other way to adopt, he might refuse to say the words (even if it pains him gravely).
In any universe where he's in a relationship with the rest of the blorbos, you better bet he sees their Padawans as his foundlings-by-extension. Even if all the Jedi WILL argue that it is not the same (except Sifo, Sifo can has and will support this interpretation of the Master-Padawan bond until his dying breath). Although, again, he might not ever make it official. Politicians have many enemies. MANDALORIAN politicians doubly so. That isn't beneficial for a child's health long-term.
In any universe where he never gets to be Mand'alor tho he has like 10 foundlings MINIMUM.
Jocasta:
Last but not least. For her, children/padawans were a very distant thought most of her life. Biological ones she would never have in my opinion – either she's infertile to begin with or she got a permanent solution to prevebt pregnancy early on.
And while she did eventually take on three Padawans (yes, Olee counts even if she was stolen from her), she always considered them more students/peers than children in the familial sense. She just isn't very maternal in any capacity, but that is fine.
While she isn't involved a lot in the child-rearing aspects of whatever kids the other three drag along, she very much IS always up for bending some rules in favor of her precious nepo-niblings. Being the Head Archivist lets you get away with quite a bit.
Especially if it ultimately benefits the kid in question academically.
I hope the answer you were looking for is in here, otherwise let me know! I'm always up for talking more about the blorbos!

Writing a fic where Jango wasn’t a willing progenitor because his family is still alive on Mandalore so Palpy did some fucked up shit to his brain and now the clones exist but one day while visiting home Jaster (who I love writing as force sensitive af) is all ‘my child has something weird in his noggin I’m gonna unravel it’ and now they know who the Sith Lord is and Jango is all ‘well. Now that that’s outta my brain-‘ and wanders off to tell the alphas that they can leave with their vod’e as soon as the Sith Lord is killed and the alphas being paranoid as they are are like ‘okay what do we give you in turn???’ ‘What do you mean this is a freebie’ ‘nothing is free prime, what do you want’ ‘lmao idk just babysit the Jedi they seem kinda stupid a little’ and the clones take that to mean ‘they are stupid and get themselves killed keep them safe’ and Jango doesn’t correct them cause this is hilarious and allows them to dig into the Jedi histories as much as they want only for them to come back all ‘ahh, yes, we see the senate has them in a chokehold and barely better than slaves living in a Diaspora being forced to their Will and their numbers have been steadily declining over the past thousand years. We see. They need help’ and Jango is all ‘…they fucking what???’ Only for the clones to already be fucked off to claim the Jedi as part of their people and no they will not be leaving sure you can try and run but we are here to help you sorta thing and Anakin is very eager for this, they saved all the slaves on Tatooine and saved his mom and stopped him from getting married cause if he gets married without Obi walking him down the aisle his master WILL cry about it and Plo and Shaak are repeating the gai bal manda to anyone they come across and it’s really very annoying and Mace shoved Kenobi at the sternest clones he could find saying ‘this one bites, he’s feral; tame him and win the prize’ and tbh they don’t know what the prize is but that sounds like fun and Obi is very annoyed at all times except when they pull him into their sleepy piles because that’s nice and yea he likes these dudes, they did not tame him tho he still bites he’s still feral at least they tried.
Anyways. Alpha 17 and Cody are the most annoying jerks ever who won’t let him run off into danger without them and Miss Shmi is awesome and disgusted by her son eating live bugs too so we no longer know where Ani gets it from that’s a shame and Mace is grounding anyone who adopts a clone or gets adopted by clones everyone is grounded. The Mandalorian empire is sorta peeking in like ‘wow. Are the Jedi okay??? They look a little annoyed??? But I haven’t heard of any of them getting murdered this week so probably???’ And it’s kinda hilariously adorable. The Mandos didn’t know they needed to worry about the Jedi and they’re super pissed at the Sith for hurting their prince’s brain and so yeah let’s join the clones they look like they’re having fun in the temple?????

"I think you will be needing this..."
There was a time in fandom where people used to make tons of rec lists of their favorite fics. I discovered a lot of great fics this way! I decided to make my own, to treat my codywan fever.
I hope it helps people discover, or re-discover, some amazing fics.
So! For your reading pleasure, here are some of my favourite codywan fics, out there. They aren't all here, because we have been blessed with a lot of great fics for this ship, but I have definively loved all of those.
Good reading!!!
Canon compliant
illicit affairs
Rex catch Cody and Obi-Wan in flagrante delicto and has a lot of feelings about it. Not positive ones. He feels it threaten his brother's life and... well, he's not wrong is he?
But love, between brothers, between a commander and his general can sometimes stronger than risks or reasons.
Painfull but amazing.
It happens during the war and ends during it too, so you don't know what will ultimately happens in this world. Do they make it? You don't know. I didn't put it in canon divergence because, aside from the fact it's codywan, nothing contradict it being canon compliant.
Canon -or not- is not the point, though. The point is the love story of Cody and Obi-Wan, as seen through Rex's eyes.
But love, between brothers, between a commander and his general can sometimes stronger than risks or reasons.
Painfull but amazing.
an injury to one
deniigiq is one fo those authors whose codywan's I just can't get enough of. That weird assholes hyperarticulate characterisation is just... XD I don't know. I love it!
The troopers make a discovery of the fiscal variety, which causes them to realize that they may have more in common with the jedi than they previously thought.
The Jedi Order is a charitable religious order. Ergo, they aren't getting paid. They get 'some' stipends but with the war, they are quickly reaching the point of untenability. Don't worry, they've got a plan.
It's told mostly from from Fox's POV which I love because 1. I love codywan as told from an outside POV 2. I love Fox.
I just love him. He has so much happening to him. He is so nihilistic, deadpan and done. Yet, he never let it twist him or give up because he love his brothers and won't let them flounders. Also, he may or may not have acquired a crush on that impossible kriffar jedi.
Warning for exploitation, money, off-screen non graphic child death and clone troopers deshumanization. Jedi Order and jedi lineage fuckery. Clone commanders fuckery. Grogu briefly shows up. Fox's buir instincts are now activated. Previously, he was of the opinion jedi could sink or swim on their own not anymore. He got this.
Canon divergence
The Art of Happenstance *
Cody and Obi-Wan co-parent a lightsaber. Force Bond. I think it saves Cody from Order 66? It ends on a cliffhanger but it's hopefull.
Funny and fantastic.
Hope
The Clone Wars are the backdrop to a quiet and fragile love between a general and a clone commander.
Listen. Listen. I cannot even begin to tell you how beautifull and delicate their love feels in this fic. It's like picking up a piece of art made out of gossamerish light.
It's poetic. It's splendid. It's quiet, discreet and personnal, like the feelings of these private men. It ties up kind of quickly to give a happy ending despite Order 66 still being carried out, but it's everything that get you there that matters.
Stunning.
The Loneliest Human Boy in the Jedi Temple
Rather than let Boba go to jail, Obi-Wan adopts him.
It's told from Boba POV, which is very interesting. I love TCW period stories featuring Boba!
And it deals with Boba confronting his father's death, being adopted by a jedi to avoid jail despite the fact his father hated jedi, dealing with what's he's done to get revenge on Mace, learning to see maybe the clones as more than things, and starting to accept that if clones are not things, then his father was wrong. What he did was wrong.
Boba has to recon with a thousand things, decide what's moral or what's not and has no one he trusts to guide him without feeling like he's betraying the only parent he has ever loved. At eleven.
Boba's disregard of clones is wrong. But when you look at all he has going on and what handicap he started out with, you cannot help but feel for him.
I feel like Boba is Dudley, the Dursley are Jango, the clones are Harry and I'm Dumbledore in the Dursley's living room at the start of book 6, shaking my head. In the end, you can only pity Boba a bit and love him and be sadden by the damages Jango did to Boba out of selfish, blind love.
No Order 66
These Things Happen
Obi-wan Kenobi keeps promoting Cody because giving him courting gifts as his superior officer would be Wrong. The promotions gets out of hand, and it somehow save the universe.
When Duty is Done - serie
Post-War: settling the matter of Clones Rights, Jedi Order Reforms, Force Philosophy, inter-jedi conflicts that were put off during the war, PTSD, healing, preparing a new planet to become the clones' home, clones culture exploration which is rooted in, but not, mandalorian's culture and, of course, getting together and settling in a relationship for Cody and Obi-Wan.
Loved it!!!! Cody is MVP. Maul is there, with Yaddle, and I'm here for it. Bant, where have you been? Chirrut is my Force Follower idol. Feemor is there as more than a footnote on Qui-Gon's history and it's amazing.
Basically, all the explorations of lives for the clones and jedi and Force Users you could possibly want in a No-Order 66 post-war setting.
Listen. Some works that are the work: Remedial Jedi Theology, Luminous, Prince With a Thousand Enemies, Open Skies ...
This is the one for No-Order 66 post-war Codywan, ex-aequo with sunshine and the shade of poetry.
sunshine and the shade of poetry
I have so much love for this fic.
The war comes to an abrupt end, and everyone around Cody begins the long road to recovery and discovery. Cody, on the other hand, just needs to find a new job. Unfortunately, he has no idea which one to pick.
First, No-Order 66 post-war Codywan is my absolute favorite type of codywan.
Second, everything. But more seriously, Codywan is often written in a such a way that Cody's life revolve around Obi-Wan's life. He settle in the Temple to live with Obi-Wan, he helps Obi-Wan deal with Anakin's meltdown/death/leaving the Order, he takes one of the job the jedi have made for the vode so he can work with Obi-Wan...
Do you see where I am going with this?
It's all about Obi-Wan. And while it can be fun to read if it's not pushed to its absolute, this type of unequal relationship, where one dedicate their entire life to the other, makes my skin crawl. Funnily enough, it's also 80% of the time the POC in that role when it's about an interracial couple. And I just - can't.
Here, Cody is his own person.
He had a life before Obi-Wan, he has one now beside Obi-Wan, and he will have one still, after, independantly from the love of his life. You can love someone as much as the galaxy is wide and still have love for your own separate life, your own friends, your own interests, goals, journey...
Basically, after the war, Cody says fuck it to any kind of military job and set out to 'find himself'. He doesn't know what it will look like and all his brothers mock him gently, and a bit worriedly, as they leave him in the dust by settling into their own civilian lives, since they don't have the same kind of hang-up he does.
But, by the Force, he is going to figures out who he is and what he wants, aside from the jedi, aside from the GAR, aside from even his own brothers, if it kills him. The 'situation' with General Kenobi will just have to wait until then.
Imagine that. Wanting to be sure of who you are, what you want and the kind of life you want before entering a relationship. Wanting to be certain of yourself, first. Especialy in a relationship where you didn't have the same power status before.
An excellent look at Cody, at the commanders, at the clones, at a post-war life in the Republic. Bly, Alpha-17 and Wolffe just shot me through the heart. It is now my headcanon that Bly is short for Butterfly for... reasons.
Find out by reading it.
And as if that wasn't enough, there's a short sequel with Alpha 17 written by deniigiq. It's the gift that keep on giving.
in our hearts some ancient song
Or: Cody finds Fives first. There are galactic consequences.
It was touch and go for a moment but happy endings guys! Thrill and anxiety abounds beforehand. Temple shenanigans. Force's engineering. The chips get activated earlier than canon but they make it through!
Worth a Thousand Words
Lol! Post-War, the clones didn't get much instructions in how to approach someone romantically. Someone suggest Cody try to send a dick pic to Obi-Wan. Somehow, it works, but not the way you expect.
This is so great! I was howling with laughers and cringing in sympathic embarrassement. Poor Cody!
This, too, was a gift
After the Rako Hardeen mission, Obi-Wan suffers a complete nervous breakdown, kills all the Sith in a way he feels violate everything he is and stands for, then fall into a severe depressive fugue.
Meanwhile, the Republic tries to reconstruct. The clones take what is owe to them and try to settle on a new planet, figure out who they are outside the War, serving the Republic and the jedi, while looking for their missing savior.
Obi-Wan is really, really depressed here and dissociated from reality for a while so, beware. Yaddle is MVP. A great look into the clones culture. The Sith problem get resolved pretty quickly. The story is about what come after and how you deal with having done what you had to do in a time of war.
This I Vow
Cody and Obi-Wan gets married for a mission. Somehow, it saves the universe.
Healthy . Adults . Communication. Please and thank you!
When We Were Young
After the war, Cody dedicated himself to his brothers: their rights, their protection, their well-beings, their lives...
He knows Obi-Wan has dedicated himself to the Order, but he hasn't seen him long enough to talk about it.
Thought now they are going on a joint mission once more, maybe that's about to change...
(hit me) with your heart
The one where Cody walks in on Obi-Wan in an intimate situation, and that ends up changing their relationship and the future of the galaxy.
Porn With Plot. Spanking. Kink exploration Safe, Sane and Consensual. It saves most of the galaxy. Rolls with it. Amazing exploration of sexuality and consent. Glimmerglanger doing the Lord's sexy work, as always. The plot is actually there and great!
the turning fork
Anakin doesn't fall, but he and Padme don't keep custody of Luke and Leia. Anakin tries to grapple with the consensual loss of his children while trying to stay in their lives. Meanwhile, someone murders a senator.
Amazing! Fantastic. The feelings... The reflection on choices and morality and parenthood and the choices one made about their lives and the ones they are going to make in the future to live a life they want to live.
Leia has Anakin's bad temper and the Organa love her but are a bit overwhelmed. Luke is his sweet self, being raised by weirdoes assholes Cody & Obi-Wan in space Scottland Stewjon. Yes, Obi-Wan left the Order to raise Luke in peace. He gets Cody as a bonus, since the man is now Luke's dad and Obi-Wan is lucky he's sharing.
A Different Perspective
Obi-Wan, Cody, the war, and a bunch of men and boys who have never gotten to choose things for themselves before, as seen through Dex's eyes.
Guys... Guys... *sob*
Finders Keepers *
Your soulmate finds everything you lose.
Obi-Wan has never had a soulmate of his own to lose things to before. Now, he's picking up things and wonders who they belong to.
Cody’s never been sure if the things he finds belong to his soulmate. If he even has one.
Anakin is contantly losing things but it somehow save the Universe because Padme take good care of them.
Fox and Bly and Bail and Breha and Bant and Kit and Boil and Waxer... all the others are there too.
chronic condition
Post War. Obi-Wan has epilepsy and it's tied to his prescience. Cody want Kix to investigate. Because they are weirdos assholes and he doesn't want to ask Obi-Wan outright. But also because he respects his privacy too much to make him talk about it. You know, they are only boyfriends. Don't won't to push boundaries too much, there. He's not a savage. Lol. Cody, you weirdo....
It was so good. So goooood... There was already the interesting part where clones don't ride into the sunset with jedi. They, too, chafe against their perception of jedi-superiority, so a lot of them choose something different than "move in the Temple and dedicate their lives to their jedi generals and jedi work". Which I love.
But, you know, I think this, it's a more realistic take and a more equal footing, long-term, than the unbalanced "clones devoted to jedi". Also, variety is always a special treat for the reader. At least it is for me. You could gave me a thousand of different headcanons, if it's well done, I'm on board!
And this one... The clones, the brotherhood/friendship amongst clones, Cody's backstory, the jedi, the post-war, the medical investigation, the Force/Jedi Order worldbuilding,.... What can I say? Save for a few fics with some of my NOTP/squicks, everything deniigiq has ever written just delight me and blow me away.
your atomic god *
The code of a clone is a simple thing: you were made to die for the Republic, for the Jedi. Make the most of the time you have before that.
Clone culture: seeded by mandalorian culture, but not the same. Introspection and identities issues: Cody ponders a lot about what it means to be a clone and who he is. Cody is super smart and cares a lot for his brothers. It has shaped my understanding of Cody.
Obi-Wan and Cody fell in love because they have actually a lot in common. Obi-Wan's lightsaber is playing matchmaker. This somehow save the universe.
Wrong Side of the Night
Is there a limit to how many fics by glimmerglanger I can rec?
*check magic eight ball* "My sources say no."
Cody has a very bad day, both he and Obi-Wan choose a less than ideal ways to handle the situation, and they have a long conversation about it the next morning.
Ouch. Like, ouch. Yet. Beware: Unjust treatement of the clones (not by Obi-Wan). Unhealthy emotional response. Impulsively angry sex. Dub-con. As-in, Cody's actions are driven by anger that has overtaken his reason and Obi-Wan's are driven by maladaptative reponse to a lifetime of traumatic environnement.
But, it's codywan, guys. So, once everyone has cooled-off: communication! Care and self-care! Trust! Support!
This fic was particularly impactful for me for personal reasons but I think it's powerfull, full-stop. You can love each other very much and still not act well towards each other. Beware of purity/cancel culture. People are failible and, at some point, they are going to fuck up.
But One: they are both harmed by the action they both perpetrated. No villain and blameless victim here. Two: once they have messed up, they both recognise their own part it it, apologise and commit to corrective actions.
This is what a good relationship look like, even with the slip up. This is what you can trust because of the slip up. They don't have to be perfect with the other all the time, because they know they can get through it and improve. The codywan is strong in this one.
I'm Not Safe Outside Your Arms
This is probably the most anguished fic you can find about a No-Order 66. But it has a happy ending!
Basically, and without spoiling it too much, the jedi do kill Palpatine but Darth Sidious continues to inflict pain, sorrow and suffering on the galaxy from beyond the grave.
Obi-Wan, of course, shoulders the whole of it but so do the vode. You're really horrified for Obi-Wan, but you feel for the 212th attack battalion: brave, strong and loyal to the end.
They should be free, they should be safe, for the first time of their lives. Their brothers are! But they aren't. And they choose it, because some choice, no matter how grim and terrifying, are no choice at all.
But there's light at the end of the tunnel. Everyone love everyone and no one is giving up. Get ready.
There Was Only One Bed
Make Your Bed (Lie in It)
They have to share a sleeping bag for cold weather reasons. Then, they just keep sharing. Yeah, Cody, we're onto you. Go through Order 66 with open-ended fix-it.
room for two
Cody and Obi-Wan are on an undercover mission, and for some reason, they have to pretend to be married. It appears that the pining will increase exponentially for the next week.
Not really a mission fic, since it's all about the trope. But it's there to put a "background" to all the small spaces sharing and there's even a tiny bit of action. It was funny and good and I enjoyed it a lot.
Warning for those who, like me, don't think the Code preclude relationships. Obi-Wan presents it like it does in the fic, but that he chose Cody anyway. I disagree. The problem is not relationship but the kind of relationship and how it impact the choices you make, your work, your committement. My headcanon for jedi/civilian relationship and their consequences/risks/problems is 70% like it is in Remedial Jedi Theology, which I recommend to everyone.
It's alright, it doesn't take off from it. It's mean to be this side of crackish, fun read, which it is, so I don't feel the need to split hair about interpretation of the Code. I just want to mention it for those who feel strongly about it. If it bothers you, you can stop at the end of chapter two. It's still great and can be read as finished at this point.
Crack
Classified
Obi-Wan goes undercover. Cody takes some calls. These two facts are absolutely not related.
Funny as shit!
First Choice
The AU where the clones get to pick their generals and Obi-Wan is, once again, left feeling unwanted. But is he really?
Warnings: Obi-Wan has Self Esteem Issues. This is still funny and the whole pagentry/tests clones make the jedi go through to pick and choose their general was gold.
The Trouble With Tookas
Never trust somebody a tooka dislikes.
It started with a fanart and end up with tookas as Sith detector. It's great. Sheevie is regretting everything.
*The ones about Cody and Obi-Wan and Obi-Wan's lightsaber
Your Life In My Hands
OR, the one where a lightsaber really is a Jedi's life.
Temporary character's death. Under 5 000 words, but by all that is good and holy, does glimmerglanger make it counts.
Like, damn. Plus, jedi and saber lore. Must Read.
Mission Fic
Standard Operating Procedures
The 212th run into a dark acolyte who curse them with a love spell. Roll with it, it's amazing.
It's actually mission fic, or more like case fic. They are working hard to find out how to break the spell and why some brothers are affected and some are not. It's great!
Rapture
Mission fic! Yay! Biological warfare, intelligence gathering, city infiltration, plot against jedi, temporary depowerment that won't keep Obi-Wan down, Competent Cody ftw, with art...
This fic has it all!
parallelogram
Obi-Wan fakes his death and Cody works through every stage of grief. He eventually decides that he's going to fuck his way out of the depression pit and finds himself falling in love with this handsome Mandalorian who he just keeps meeting.
Obi-Wan dies and Cody is out of all the fuck to give. First, he spirals. Then, he says screw the universe. He treat himself. He looks for sex. He undermines all the unworthy incompetent natborns officers. He take on Boba's gardienship, who is not in space jail at 11 but was up to this point under Mace's supervision. Ponds is very relieved.
He will crawl out of this depressive hole or die trying.
Smuggled In
NO ORDER 66. But, also Mission Fic. And I think it's more about the Mission than the fact it happens in a No Order 66's world, thought I love it and I'm gratefull for it.
Cody and some of the 212th get captured by smugglers, and nothing is quite what it seems to be.
Hahaha! I love this one! Cody is always blaming the shit that happens to the 212th on Obi-Wan and now the joke is on him because it went completely off the rails pretty early and the jedi is nowhere near where the action is happening. Or, is he?
Asexuality
Hedgehog's Dilemma
Cody is in love with Obi-Wan and determined to court him. Obi-Wan is interested in Cody but not sex. Cody has no idea what to make with that. They try to figure it out.
a lesson in attachment
Obi-Wan has never been enough. It's okay. The Force loves him anyway. And so does Cody.
Touching and, as greyS/Ace myself, it resonated.
Mpreg
A Slow Fall Towards Grace
I cannot even begin to tell you how much this fic touch me. Obi-Wan is an omega, though it's not a traditional depiction of A/B/O.
It keeps screwing him over thorough his life and the sex he ends up having despite himself is not funny. Read the tags. Obi-Wan is ignorant of how much people want him, but considering it's not because he's this bastion of Mary-Sue perfection, but because the alphas around him are knot-heads who excuse their poor behaviors and selfishness with their hormones, it doesn't read that way.
Cody is amazing. Obi-Wan is the Force's chew toy and beloved son at the same time. Loved it.
1861 c.100 s.60
Obi-Wan gets pregnant during the war and decides that the obvious course of action is constant and brazen denial.
Obi-Wan is a weird asshole. Cody is weirder. They are the perfect couple.
Anakin cannot deal with them because the twins came early and he doesn't have the time anymore. Listen, he doesn't even have time for Palpatine anymore...
Lol! Screwing with Sheevie. Clones fuckery. Adorable grumpy she-tubie. Codywan being the perfect assholes we know them to be and furiously in love. All the feels and pettily satisfying.
for every loved child
The one where new father Cody reckons with many of the anxieties and traumas of his past and gets some much delayed comfort.
Or how glimmerglanger managed to make me cry in less than 4 000 words.
It's not so much a mpreg fic, but a new parents fic. A late-night breastfeeding session reveals a lot of buried and current feelings, thoughts and issues. There's much pain, but it's all surrounded by intimacy, love and warmth. It's like hiding under the blanket with your SO and shading cathartic tears. Amazing.
Post-Order 66
I hate Order 66. I don't want to read fics about it. Some authors are just too good, though.
Haunt Me, Then
Fix-It, as much as possible. CC-2224 becomes Cody again and will die trying to make up killing his General and jedi, even if it kills him.
Heartwrenching.
We Build Our Empire From Ruins And Smoke
The Republic is dead and the Empire's throne is empty, and Fox will be damned if he lets anyone claim it.
Basically, post-order 66, the clones come back online and since everything they worked, die for and cared about is dead or gone, the gloves are off.
Come with prequels and sequels, it's actually a whole serie. No dialogue. Anakin is dead. Palpatine dies. Clones-centric.
Not something I agree with irl, because it's when democracy is threaten you should work twice as hard to secure it. But since it's fiction and the general canon sense we get of politicians and regular population confronted with Order 66 is that they either don't care or agree, it's pretty fine with me.
First Sight
For Cody, it's love at first sight. From Kamino to Tatooine, it lives inside him.
A Treatise on Breaking and Repairs
Warning: whumpfest. Great satisfaction at the end, though.
Three years post-Order 66, Obi-Wan get captured by Vader. Rape and torture ensue. The 212th, under the chips' control, are there for it all. In the end, Anakin gets his just dessert. Our boys make free.
But while you can make free from a place, you cannot free yourself from the horrors visited upon your soul that easily.
the boat that would row you back
Or, after Obi-Wan vanish it front of Vader on the Death Star, Vader decides he didn't get the proper fight he deserves and send CC-2224 in the underworld to bring Obi-Wan back.
Of course, nothing is that easy.
The Carbon Cycle
Obi-Wan decide to try to grow flowers on Tatooine to heal himself. CC-2224 is having dreams about the General he supposedly kills. Somehow, it save the both of them.
I'm a whore for dreamsharing fic. I cannot even begin to tell you how much I love it. This fic... this fic is cleansing and healing and touching and beautifull. I loved it!
A Whim, A Desire
OK, this one doesn't hurt. Much.
Three years after Order 66, Vader finds an artifact that allows him to create his perfect dream world within the Force. However, he finds that maintaining this world is impossible without someone living inside it at all times. He throws in everyone he can from his past life, including CC-2224.
Obi-Wan fell asleep on Tatooine and wake up in his dreams in the perfect life.
But illusion is not reality and when the seems of the dream start to show, Cody and Obi-Wan will fight to make their dream a reality.
Both Cody and Obi-Wan think the other is an illusion, and so they are free and honest with each other. What they built is lovely. Vader show up like the Lord of the House but it allows Obi-Wan to play out his fantasies of still being able to talk to Anakin and being part of his life.
It doesn't ends in Yay! We saved the Universe and kills Sidious/Vader. Just - Cody, saving himself and those he can along the way.
Fantasic imaginings. Make you wish it could have happen, if Anakin hadn't ruined everything by becoming Vader. Vader's frustrations of people and things eluding his 'absolute sithly control' is hilarious, sad and the source of endless failures on his part. Thankfully.
diogenes (what makes a man?)
Cody, grappling with identity, purpose and what it means to be a brother.
Cody-centric. From Kamino to Tatooine. Lot of clones. Lot of feels and introspection. Most Dies But Some Lives.
Listen, I'm of the die hard opinion that if Cody's chip fail during the Empire, no matter when or how, he would not rest until he has saved all the brothers he can save. This is the same characterisation here.
|free the hearts and rust the chains|
There aren't many clones left in the Imperial Army. (...) Zhade-Ran doesn't trust her two bunkmates. Although perhaps not for the reasons she should.
I love stories being told from an excellently done OC. Here, we've got two troopers who want to desert and two clones who shake the chips' control after years of being under and deign for the natborns to join them on their way out. Now, all they need to do is find a way to get in touch with the Rebellion.
Loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!
An Elegant Weapon *
Cody is Force Sensitive. Obi-Wan teach him how to fight with a lightsaber. It doesn't save the universe, but at least it saves Cody. It's great! I promise Cody is still Cody and not changed into a zen jedi. He can just... feels the Force.
set the bones straight
Purge Trooper CC-2224 is an extremely efficient jedi killer. He will find them all. All of them. Even the one from his dreams.
Pffffiuuuu. Don't look into this one for Cody's softening influence on CC-2224 or breaking out of the chip's influence by the sheer force of Will and Morality. This is straight-up Purge Trooper. Happy ending, though. Sort of. As much as can be in Post-Order 66.
Recollection
CC-2224 malfunctions. The Empire tries to wipe him into working order. Cody is not letting them.
Or, Eternal Sunshine of the Reconditioned Mind. *bawl my eyes out* Codyyyy!!!!
|to failure, sweet victor|
The chip malfunction enough for Cody to seek out and join Obi-Wan on Tatooine. The chips function enough for CC-2224 to tries to kill that traitor Kenobi whenever he's online.
They make it work.
one meal at a time
Cody and Obi-Wan's love story, as told through food. This is so chokefull of love...
Errr... Order 66 fuck me up. I don't get why I put so many of them there. I guess it's popular amongst writers? And I can bend my likes/dislikes when the writing is that good. Curse you, good writers!
Home, A Place You've Never Been
Cody's chip fails. Cody dreams of Tatooine. Cody gets to Tatooine. Now that he's there, he must heal and tame Ben Kenobi, whose wounds on his soul make him the kindest not-jedi. But also depressed, weary and wary as hell.
Excellent. Obi-Wan is very oblivious. Then, in the three sequels, very happy. As much as can be post-Order 66.
The Raephen's Gifts
It's happy! Cody and Obi-Wan obviously make it through Order 66 and the Empire, along with some clones and jedi, and the Republic and the Jedi Order are restored to the galaxy.
But it's all alluded to only very briefly in the background. Basicaly, now that the galaxy is at peace once more, old married couple codywan get on a week long retreat on a peacefull planet in Wild Space where they are sure they won't be bothered or called.
They sleep, eat fish and maybe meet some Force entities along the way.
Just... old codywan, with disabilities, having a week of rest and healing. Chilling. It's everything I wish for them in a post-Order 66 era.
AUs I Cannot Help But Read
AUs, as in, change the Star Wars Universe, not the events of canon.
Listen, I hate when SF is not SF. But, again, some authors are just too good and they make it work.
Vampire AU serie
Yes. Really. Don't run for the hills! It's not your Twilight Romance. Everything is the same. Obi-Wan is just of a specie called Vampire because, you know, they drink blood as part of their diet.
And since it's Star Wars: Space Racism! Yay!
This somehow makes the Clone Wars both better and worse.
Sort of Vampirism? Its not the story
I put it there because in this sort-of supernatural AU, Force users drink blood.
But really, the story is about how Cody and Obi-Wan get trapped in a lost jedi Temple, how they must join forces to make it out, and how the ensuing unshakable trust help them deal with post-Order 66.
It was great. I love lost jedi Temple fic! I could read millions of them.
Commander Cody and Star Wars’ actual Disney princess
Obi-Wan, the prince in his high tower, is not waiting for a rescue. Cody is the not-knight interested in rescuing him.
I shit you not. Magic is used instead of the Force, but everything is very recognisable and the story is great! Lot of Cody's brothers are there.
Zombies
A stunning mission fic, 64 000 words long, where the Separatist experiment biological warefare on a neutral planet and the 212th get caught in the middle.
Down to less than a hundred soldiers, they must fight an entire planet for their survival. Buckle up! Clones Wars Plots! Zombies Nightmares! With sequel!
I cannot stress enough how much you need it. If you like action, this is the fic for you.
Sith Obi-Wan
Really not my kind fic. I headcanon the very bone of Obi-Wan personality as selfless. And to be Sith is rooted in selfishness.
Imcompatible in its essence. Does not work.
In this fic, it works. Sith Empire, so it explains Obi-Wan being Sith. Unexpected kind of A/B/O. Warning for Obi-Wan/212th battalion. The codywan is there and ready to do damage. Revenge ahead. Less than 6000 words, maximum impact.
Glimmerglanger strikes again. It was great.
Dark Sider Obi-Wan
Not to be confused: Obi-Wan is not a Sith there.
He is an ex-padawan who left the Order to fight a war for children against adults, then joined another war, then another war and another and another...
By the time he realised he strayed from the Light, he has cease to care about it. He is good at war and they always say if you're good at something, you should be paid for it. A galactic war may be the peak of his career, if it wasn't such a strange war. It doesn't quite make sense, and Obi-Wan's weakness is definitively curiosity.
Meanwhile, Commander Cody has it with this dark sider ruining things. He may be a fearsome separatist general, but Cody is no light weight himself. If the man is going to drop gauntlets left and right, than Cody is going to damn well one pick one himself.
Let's see who is the better fighter and strategic mastermind.
Always-A-Girl-Obi-Wan
Funerary practices? Master Ti writes back. I’m not sure what you mean, Master Kenobi. Used biomass is the property of Kamino and thus is recycled into the cloning process.
So that’s how the revolution begins—with dead brothers, but not the way you might expect.
Obi-Wan is still Obi-Wan. You might as well read this as Canon Divergence. But fandom readers will always has the fear of Mary Sue, I think, so I prefered to put the fact that it's Lady Wan at the foreground.
It's great. It's so freaking great... The 212th are all a little bit in love with Obi-Wan. Cody definitively is. Obi-Wan has nightmares and decide she's done with this shit. She's going to take her clones and stage a strike. See how the Senate like that! Ha!
Lol. If anyone ever make a fanart of Lady Wan as a pinup for ship's nose art, please, please, send me the link! Warnings for cloneship in the background.
Time Travel
while the world still turns
Cody touch an artefact in a jedi Temple and is sent at various point of Obi-Wan's life. All the codywan feels. Of course, it's going to save the Universe!
Fire to ash, present to past (who knows for tomorrow?)
Obi-Wan is fifteen again, things are different, people are confused, but maybe there's something good at the end of the path
Obi-Wan is the Force chew toy and beloved son at the same time. Obi-Wan has PTSD. Qui-Gon is confused. Listen, you don't get much more than "Obi-Wan get back in his old body". That's it. That's the whole fic.
The whole thing is about landing in a different time with undealt with traumas and finally dealing. Why put it on this codywan rec list, then? Ah, I'm not gonna spoil you, now, am I? You will just have to read for yourself.
The Suns Swing East
Over and over, Obi-Wan woke up and wished he hadn't. Palpatine wouldn't stop until Obi-Wan had Fallen (...)
He couldn't save himself (...) What he hadn't realized was that didn't mean there was no way to be saved.
Time-Loop!!! Palpatine realise Obi-Wan can kick Anakin's ass and decide he is the one he wants as his apprentice. Then, with sith powers, he tries his best to break him.
Obi-Wan is at the end of his rope. He has lived through many lives, all of them horrible, all of them failures. At this point, he wished he could join the Force. Seriously. Depression. Suicide attempt. The work. But Obi-Wan isn't alone. And those who love him will save him. And the Universe along the way.
Die Sheevie, die.
A heartfelt thanks to @glimmerglanger @deniigi @nightfoliage @lttrsfrmlnrrgby @galateagalvanized @esamastation @wanderingjedihistorian @nerjetii @petrichordiam @someawkwardprose @trixree @andthepeople
(The other authors either had no tumblr handle put on their ao3 profile, or their pseudo didn't work when I tried to @ at them. I thank them anyway, and all those whose codywan fics I have loved but not put there. Thank you.)

Shadow and Light: Chapter Three
Tumblr media
The Mandalorian/Din Djarin x F!Reader
WC:  3312
Other Pieces:  This is part of a larger miniseries that can be found here.
CW:  Slow-burn; plot-building; canon violence; non-canon fighting; pining.
Tumblr media
Channeling always left you drained, and it was doubly so when you used Ashla for healing.  It was like a fast-moving river:  when you opened the gates and let it flow through you, it wasn’t the using that wore you out – it was closing the gates, turning it off.
You’d heard about entire orders of people who could use the power.  You own adopted people had mystics who used it for guidance or healing, and you’d heard of the Jedis and Sith, and darker sects like the Nightsisters.  You knew that those who were trained in it could channel it specifically, but for you, it was just torrents of raw power that coursed through you.  Neither good nor bad.
And because you couldn’t really control it, there was always a spillover effect.  When you healed Mando that evening, the deluge of power also showed you visions upon visions that cycled through your head as you slept by the fire that night.  Visions of the past, visions of possible futures.  None of them really making sense.  The strongest vision – the one that stayed to the forefront of your mind even when you woke – was the most unsettling.
You were still exhausted the next morning, so when you and Mando and the floating pod exited the canyon and saw the Razor Crest being dissembled by Jawas, well….there wasn’t much you could do other than sigh and watch Mando pursuit them pointlessly.  Once he was out of sight, you sighed again and guided the pod with the child into what was left of the ship.
“He does things the hard way,” you told the Child, who twitched its ears and held its arms out to you.  You lifted it out of its pod, and it snuggled into your arm with a pleased coo.
Jawas were canny scavengers, and you and the Child inspected the damage:  they had taken almost everything of value, tearing out components that could be repurposed for other vehicles.  The frame of the ship was intact, though, and they’d left most of the personal effects behind.  Mando’s sleeping quarters had been tossed and searched, but they’d missed the little nook you’d carved out for yourself in the cargo hold.  Your pack was still there, untouched, and you knelt down and rooted through it now for some food.
You had a package of preserved nutrition bars – they tasted terrible, but they were food.  You gnawed at one and pressed little bits to the Child, who ate them but frowned so mightily at the taste that you couldn’t help but laugh.
“I know,” you told it.  “They’re bad.”
Then there was nothing to do but wait, so you took the Child to the cockpit, settled into one of the remaining seats, and curled up.  The Child made a sleepy grumble as it burrowed against you, and before long, it was asleep.
It wasn’t a weapon after all.  You had truly thought it was some thing, maybe a cache of kyber crystals that the Empire used to power its awful death machines.  But it was just a child, a sweet little thing from what you could tell, and every moment you spent with it, the more certain you were:  your original plan only needed a little revision.  Instead of destroying the asset to keep it from the hands of the Empire, you were going to protect it.
*****
Mando was discomfited, so when he caught the Jawas destroying his ship, running after them in a blind rage seemed perfectly reasonable.
You’d thrown him off his center when you healed him the previous night, and he had been uncomfortable ever since.  Maybe uncomfortable wasn’t the right word.  He was a man of few words, after all.  Maybe bothered was a better word.
His arm was perfectly healed.  Even in daylight when he inspected the wound closer, it was completely mended without a single scar to mark where it had been.  It didn’t mean that the spot didn’t burn with the memory of where you had touched him for that too-short moment.
Maybe burn wasn’t the right word.  The best word he could use was yaim’la, the Mando’a word for comfort.  But more like familiar, like being home.  Which wasn’t a feeling Mando had felt in a very long time.  He had no home.
You had still been drained by the healing, and he could see the dark circles under your eyes as you trudged beside him.  But you never complained or asked him to slow his stride, and he grudgingly gave you some respect for that.
More curious was how you couldn’t quite meet his eyeline like you had before.  When you spoke, your gaze seemed to fall just a bit short, like you were addressing the top of his helmet instead of the slit where his eyes were.
The only respite was when he chased down the Jawas’ moving fortress.  He had managed to kill a few of the pests and had nearly breached the giant vehicle, but he had ultimately failed and fallen from it.  The fall stunned him, knocked him unconscious for a moment.
Then he woke up, and his arm burned with the memory of your hand on him.  Irritated, he marched back the Crest to find you and the asset curled up in the cockpit, and you both woke when he tried to turn his ship on.  A useless effort:  the engines were gone, as was the navigation system and the ignition switch.
-----
The evening was spent with Kulil.  Once the situation was made clear to the Ugnaught and a plan was made, Mando pulled back from the rest of you.  You and Kulil chatted amiably – you both seemed to be genuinely curious creatures – and Mando eavesdropped a little jealously.  He wished he could speak as easily as Kulil.
You each spoke about your experiences under the yoke of the Empire:  him as an indentured servant, little better than a slave.  You as a hunted person with the rest of the remaining Lasats, hiding in the craggy mountains and pestering the outpost of imps who staffed the permanent base they built on your adopted planet.
Kulil asked about your childhood and what it was like being raised in another species, another culture.  Mando tilted his head to listen to your answer – he had an idea what that might have been like.  He had been a foundling too.  He wondered if you had felt as lost as he had.  If you still felt lost.  At least he had the Way.  You seemed to be completely alone, drifting whatever way the wind seemed to blow you, or whichever way your so-called channeling seemed to pull you.
“It was fine,” was all you said, but even the Mandalorian could hear the lie in your voice.  You turned inward then, and Mando watched as your eyes shifted to the horizon.  It was twilight on Arvala-7, and you got a sad, faraway look on your face.  Kulil felt the shift in mood too, and the Ugnaught fell silent.
One by one, you each carved out your own places to sleep and turned in for the night.  Mando just settled in against one of the walls of Kulil’s house – he could fall asleep anywhere.  Besides, his spot gave him a prime view to watch you as you slept.  When he reasoned with himself that he was just watching over you because he didn’t completely trust you, he almost believed it himself.
*****
You were already thinking of the Child as your ally, your co-conspirator.
When Mando bickered with the Jawas, when he tried to roast one and refused to deal with them, you caught yourself making eye contact with the little green creature, and you swore the two of you were thinking the same thing:  Mando does things the hard way.
And because he did things the hard way, you found yourself tossed into the air and in the mud near the mudhorn’s lair.  You had suggested that perhaps he scan the cave first, but no – Mando stalked into the cave without a backwards glance, and you had tried to step in to help….and you ended up bruised and stunned while the Child lifted the mudhorn into the air with the same power you used to channel and heal.  You could feel that power crackling in the air, even with your head ringing and your thoughts muddled.
When Mando finally made his way over to you, you were seeing double.  The sun glinted off his beskar helmet, and you squinted your eyes at him.
“Cyar’ika,” he spat angrily.  “I told you to stay back with the kid.”  He extended his hand and hoisted you to your feet.  “Are you hurt?” he added, a little less rough.
“Fine,” you wheezed.  You knew you’d have a constellation of bruises in the morning, but you wouldn’t admit that to Mando.  Not when you’d finally exasperated him enough to make him swear in his native tongue.
Besides, the Child was slumped over in its pod, and it needed your attention more than thinking up a witty rejoinder for Mando.

He stayed away from you as much as he could, after that.  After that word slipped out of his mouth, unbidden.  It was seeing you tossed by the mudhorn, seeing how hard you hit.  How you didn’t move afterwards.  How you didn’t move until he stood over you, his heart in this throat, only to be greeted by you squinting and smiling up at him.
Luckily, you didn’t seem to know what the word meant, and Mando tried to forget it.  The job was almost over.  He’d leave you on Navarro, complete the job, and return to his lonely life.
The problem?  The more he watched you – with the unconscious Child, with the Razor Crest as you helped rebuild it (you hadn’t lied – you rebuilt both of the engines) – the more he wanted you to stay on.  He’d readily admit to himself that this job had been made easier by your presence…and he was starting to admit that he liked your company.
By the time he was punching in the final coordinates for the approach to Navarro, Mando was ready to make a proposition to you.  A deal, for you to stay on and work with him.  His stomach was twisted and churning, and he could already feel the blood heating his face.  For the thousandth time since meeting you, he was grateful for the helmet.
Mando landed the Crest, and he heard you leave the cockpit.  He powered the craft down and followed you a moment later, and he found you standing beside the Child’s pod.  Your face was wan but resolute, and you looked directly into his eyes.  You were obviously gazing at the slit in his visor.
“You can’t finish this job,” you said simply.  “You can’t hand the kid over to those…monsters.”
Mando wasn’t surprised.  You had taken to the Child immediately, and after it revealed its power – similar to yours, apparently – you had gotten even more productive.  He had prepared for this.
“I made a deal,” he replied.
You had prepared for him too, apparently.  You gave a single nod and stepped between him and the pod.  Never taking your eyes off of him, you pulled your bo-rifle from your back and snapped it into its staff formation.  You didn’t turn it on yet.
“I don’t want to fight you, Mando,” you said, and he could hear the trembling in your voice.  “But I will if I have to.”
The helmet hid the small smile that crossed his face.  It wasn’t cruel or taunting – it was almost soft.  “I don’t want to fight you either,” he replied.
“Why can’t we – “ you started, but that thought was cut off by Mando:  lightning quick, faster than you could turn on your staff, the dart from his gauntlet found the soft skin of your neck.  Your eyes widened a fraction as your hand flew up to finger the tiny dart, but you were already falling.  Mando took two wide steps to catch you, and he didn’t miss the look of betrayal on your face before you fell asleep.
You’d get over.  So would the kid.  Everyone got left behind in the end.
The sedative should work for hours, and once you woke up, maybe you’d be more reasonable and open to business.
-----
When Mando returned to the Razor Crest, he was ready to check on you and wait out the rest of your long sleep.  The payment for the job paid him enough beskar to remake his armor, plus extra for the foundlings.  If his conscience prickled at leaving the Child behind…he pushed that aside.
You weren’t sleeping, though.
You were waiting for him.
With your bo-staff, turned on and crackling, and when you jumped out of the shadows and shocked him, Mando was taken aback by how furious you looked.
The shock wasn’t enough to seriously stun him, but it threw him onto his heels, and you took advantage of that.  You, on the offensive, and Mando fighting off your flurry of strikes as you shouted at him.
“Was it worth it?” you yelled, hitting him hard in his vulnerable instep with the butt-end of your staff.  “Worth it to turn an innocent creature over to the Empire?”
“You don’t – “ he started, but you cut him off with a hard chop to his forearm.
“They’re gonna kill it, just like they kill everything they touch!”  You spun around to avoid his hand, grasping at you to still you, and Mando felt the shock when it landed on his back.  Muted by the beskar, but still stinging.
“Stop!” he roared, and he threw his weight backwards to pin you against the inner hull of the Crest.  Once pinned, he swiveled around and grabbed your wrist, and the staff clattered from your hand.  The two of you stood like that – your face tilted up at his as you glared at him in pure fury.  Your eyes were shiny with tears, and your chest was heaving – more from the effort to hold back your tears than from the effort of sparring with him.
“It was the job,” he said, a little quieter.  “And this is the Way.”
Your eyes narrowed.  “Oh, the Way.”  You said it so sneeringly, Mando pulled back a fraction.  You noted the movement and closed the gap and then some, until your face was close to his helmet.  Through the visor, this close, he could see your eyes – the flecks of color in the irises that shifted as you blinked away the tears that kept springing up.  Even angry – furious – you were the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen.
“Tell me, Mando.  When you become a Mandalorian, what do they do first?  Give you a helmet or tear out your heart and replace it with beskar?”  You shook your head and pulled your wrist from his grasp.  Swiped it across your eyes angrily.  “What use is a Creed if you don’t use it to protect the helpless?”
You shoved past him to leave, and his hand shot out again to stop you.  “Wait,” he tried, but you pulled against him and he pulled you back and you were stronger than he realized, and you both tumbled onto the hard crating of the Crest.  You tried to scramble away from him, but he grabbed at your ankle.
Which made you rear back your other leg and kick him directly in the head.  Hard.
It was enough to stun him, and you clambered to your feet and stood over him a moment.  “I thought you were different.  I saw you in a vision, and it didn’t have to end like this.”
And then you turned on your heel – sans your bo-rifle – and ran into the night.
-----
Everything that came after – rescuing you (while you were rescuing the kid), the fire-fight, the escape on the Crest with the aid of the Mandalorian covert – had felt right.  Like his feet were on one of your paths that you had talked about.
Right now, though, he had to make it right with you.  Even if you had teamed up to fight off the stormtroopers, mercenaries, and other bounty hunters, you sat in the co-pilot’s seat now and glared at him.  As if returning for you and the kid wasn’t quite enough to make up for his betrayal.  His eyes drifted to the lurid bruise on your neck from the dart, and he felt a sting of guilt.
“I’m sorry,” he said again.  “You were right.”
You hadn’t been especially talkative before, but your silence now was heavier than the beskar armor he wore.  It was palpable.  It filled the cockpit and made it hard to breathe.
“You were right,” he repeated.  “I don’t know what else to say to make it better.”  He swiveled in his seat to face you.
There was a long moment of the two of you just staring.  Well, you were staring at him, but Mando’s eyes were studying you – from your stony face to your palms laying on your knees.  To your left foot, tapping on the floor.
“Fine,” you finally said, and your face relaxed a little.  “So what next?”
“I don’t know,” he answered honestly.  “We’ll need to stop for supplies.  Then I say we lay low for a bit and regroup.”  You nodded at that, so he continued.
“You were never trying to join the Guild, were you?”  He wasn’t angry at your original lie, but he was curious.
You shook your head, and a faint blush rose in your cheeks.  “I had a feeling about that building and the client.  About the job.”  You glanced at him and then looked past him.  “I had a feeling about you.”
Mando tried to ignore the warm flush that sparked in him.  “A feeling, or a vision?” he joked, though he wasn’t sure if it sounded joking through his modulator.
You smiled at him, then waved your hand.  “Oh, those,” you said dismissively.  “I have so many, it’s hard to tell what’s real.  They’re only possible futures.”
“So no vision of a possible future like this?”
“Are you asking me if I ever saw myself on a pre-Empire gunship with a stubborn Mandalorian and a creature of unknown origins?  No, I hadn’t seen that one before.”  The thaw between you seemed complete now, judging by your teasing tone and the corner of your mouth quirked into a smirking little smile.  After a beat, you yawned, covering it with the back of your hand.
“Come on,” he said.  He stood up and motioned for you to follow him.  You had been sleeping in the cargo hold, curled up on your pack and your cloak like a stray lothcat.  He had started cleaning out the spare quarters bit by bit on the way back to Navarro.  It had been a repository for junk, spare parts, but once cleaned, he hoped you might like it enough to consider it home.
Looking at it now with you by his side, Mando felt a sudden wave of uncertainty.  Embarrassment.  It was such a small space, just a narrow cot and small footlocker and a pair of tiny shelves.  Far less than he wished he could give you, and that thought made him even more uncomfortable.
You seemed fine with the space, though.  Happy, even.  You gave a little cry of delight and ran off to gather your pack from the cargo hold, and then you came back.
“Thanks for this,” you said, and you reached out to squeeze his forearm in gratitude.  Then you were in your new quarters, already unpacking your meager belongings, completely unaware how that lone touch of yours – even through the beskar gauntlet and the course canvas cloth underneath – set him ablaze.

Hey. You know more about star wars then I do, so I was wondering if you had any idea about this. I heard someone recently claim the jedi cut off contact with obi-wan's birth family, and was wondering if that was true and/or what the context was.
(Feel free to ignore this, obviously)
Hi! There is absolutely zero evidence of that, so my guess (not having seen the original context) is that it's projection based on his lines from Obi-Wan Kenobi where he says he vaguely remembers his birth parents and a brother, before he got his new family, the Jedi. The Jedi are adopted into their new family when they're young, most of them don't really remember their birth families other than vague memories, because that's how people work, almost no one remembers stuff very well from that age. We have no real evidence how much birth families are involved in the child's life once they're adopted, literally all we know is that Obi-Wan himself doesn't really know them. We don't know how much of that was a choice on his part, we don't know if it's simply because that's how closed adoptions work, we don't know if it's a policy because the galaxy is very predatory towards Force-sensitive children, we don't know if the families are given the option of information on the child as they grow, we don't know anything about how it works, other than that they're adopted with permission from the parents. So, we can't prove that the Jedi didn't cut off contact with Obi-Wan's birth family, but saying that it's what happened is false as well, because it's a very blank slate. Do I think it's likely that it was a clean break? Yes, that's how closed adoptions work, especially in fiction. But here’s the thing:  In Star Wars, adoption is seen as a very good thing and that makes sense, given that Lucas adopted his own kids, too.  A core theme of Star Wars is being able to “let go”, that The Phantom Menace was structured the way it was specifically because he wanted to show that Shmi letting Anakin go on to his bigger destiny was the right thing to do, that life changes and moves forward, that she couldn’t hold him back. The Jedi children being given to the Jedi Order to go on to their bigger destiny is a reflection of that, the birth parents are willing to let them go, because their path lies elsewhere in this space fantasy fairy tale.
