Speaking about Darcy not marrying Anne de Bourgh, I've often wondered why Lady Catherine was so into Darcy marrying Anne when Colonel Fitzwilliam would probably be more interested. He needs to marry rich to maintain his lifestyle, he has no estate of his own (that we know of) so he's be staying at Rosings, he's family just like Darcy. Seems like a win win situation to me
This question is in reference to this question.
See you're not thinking like a rich person; that's the problem with your question. Lady Catherine is already sitting on a very large estate, but the purpose of life is to make your wealth even bigger and better! That is why your rich daughter needs to marry an equally rich guy so you can have two massive estates.
What are you a communist? Do you believe in equal distribution of wealth? Are you trying to push some sort of charity case on Anne de Bourgh?!?!?!?!
So yeah, that's why.

It was my mom's birthday yesterday and to surprise her I dedicated the day to reading her favorite novel, Pride and Prejudice, and writing down my thoughts as I read for her to look at once I finished; I don't think it's personally my thing but I'm glad I did so anyway and I now have a better understanding of something she loves.
Anyway Mr. Darcy seems like he'd be a Border Collie and I can't explain why.

Fun fact about my heiress, Lady Catherine: She essentially has four retainers. They’re still part of the roster of course, they’re just kinda a level above everyone else in terms of like this vague hierarchy that isn’t really enforced usually.
Reynauld is her first retainer. He’s the one who she really relied on so far as helping her actually run things went, since (as far as I can tell) he rose to a leading role during the crusades so he definitely has more experience than she does. Nowadays he needs to help a lot less but she still asks for advice or second opinions from him sometimes. She feels a lot more secure in her decisions when he’s there to back her up.
Dismas is her second retainer. It was briefly mentioned in Soldier On, but he’s Catherine’s bodyguard. Catherine wasn’t exactly liked when she first showed up because of what her ancestor had done, and that led to a lot of threats being thrown around (along with rocks occasionally). Dismas would walk with her whenever she had to go out to make sure that no one tried anything. She’s a lot more liked now so Dismas doesn’t follow her around nearly as much, but if he’s not with Reynauld or at the tavern, he’s usually with Catherine.
Bosanquet is her third retainer. He's the head researcher and local eldritch expert of the estate. Catherine essentially gave him every single old tome that her ancestor had lying around and she set him up with a private study in the upper rooms of an old library that he could use indefinitely. She also comes to him to help her plan expeditions, a responsibility that he shares with Reynauld. His expertise is invaluable and Catherine still contacts him regularly for assistance.
Warci is her fourth and final retainer. He’s...shoot man he’s just her friend. Catherine was extremely nervous when she first took charge of the Hamlet, and the hostility of the inhabitants plus the horrors lurking outside the town borders really did no favors. Warci was basically her emotional support clown for a good while since he could cheer her up or just help her through whatever kinda bad emotions she was feeling. Since she’s in a better place mentally she doesn’t need his help nearly as much, but she still considers him her retainer and her good friend, and does have him swing by on occasion just to talk and hang out.

Catherine Deneuve (Belle de Jour, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, The Young Girls of Rochefort)—Say what you will about the French but they really went off with Catherine Deneuve
Carol Channing (Thoroughly Modern Millie)—The original blonde that gentlemen prefer! Sang diamonds are a girl's best friend as a duet with Miss Piggy! She's bold and bright and she's got a big smile and she's funny! Her paternal grandma was black, something Carol was told by her mother at age 17 and publicly revealed in 2002.
This is round 1 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.

It took me a long time to realize this because, but the conversation between Lady Catherine and Elizabeth is rude, but for the most part, Lady C is not wrong.
“Why did not you all learn? You ought all to have learned. The Miss Webbs all play, and their father has not so good an income as yours. Do you draw?”
“No governess! How was that possible? Five daughters brought up at home without a governess! I never heard of such a thing. Your mother must have been quite a slave to your education.”
“All! What, all five out at once? Very odd! And you only the second. The younger ones out before the elder are married! Your younger sisters must be very young?”
Yes! They all should have learned and they probably should have had a governess. Especially Lydia and Kitty. The other heroines without a governess (Catherine Morland, possibly the Dashwoods) do have very attentive parents who manage their education. The Bennets don’t have dowries, they could at the very least be educated. It’s far less expensive.
And yes! It’s insane to have five daughters out at once. Even if we just look at it from a financial standpoint, that means five girls need ballgowns and adornment all at once. Families usually put only one or two girls out because of the prohibitive expense. And then we have of course the fact that Lydia is probably too young to be out anyway.
Elizabeth defends her family’s choices, kind of, or at least gives an explanation, but not allowing her family to be dragged through the mud is different than saying her upbringing was correct. And even if she kind of agrees with her family’s justification now, she certainly realizes how devastating these choices were later.
And yet, because Jane Austen is so clever, Lady Catherine is still a rude idiot. A good deal of what she says even during this conversation is ridiculous and condescending. But that is the genius of Austen, she sets up this argument so you get on Elizabeth’s side, even though Elizabeth is wrong. Which is the same as with Caroline Bingley’s warning about Wickham, we discount it because we dislike her and she sneers, but in her speech is the truth.
It’s a nice parallel with Darcy’s first proposal. He’s not wrong, but he is still a rude, condescending jerk about it.

the bats being asked how they would feel if they became their moms:
Bruce: sobbing
Dick: I'd be okay with that, she was truly a great mom... before she and my father were tragically murdered....
Tim: yea, I think I'm good. I loved her and all but I'd prefer not
Duke: maybe, you know, before she was jokerized and trying to kill me
Steph: fuck no
Damian: ....
Cass, after being reminded that her mother exists, silently stands and leaves to go and fight Lady Shiva again
Jason: look me in the eyes and ask that question again
