Just randomly thought, huh, we tend to discuss which Austen men we'd marry, but what about the opposite?

This gorgeous art is by @rain1940 to go with my fic "Transformation"!
This is Beast and Belle with their family of half-beast children about 11 years after the main action of the fic. Their kids are named Anatole, Phœbe, and Estelle. I am so in love with how adorable they came out! Thank you, Aliz!

Easy: John Thorpe. He's not the worst Austen character by a long shot, but I have long maintained that he is the most punchable.
Which fictional character would you fist fight if you were magically guaranteed a win?

WIP Wednesday
Tumblr media
Last week, I shared the prologue from my WIP "Rose Brides," a Disney Beauty and the Beast retelling. In this story, Adam has been born a beast because his father was a beast, and his father, and so on. His mom was a human from the village.
The snippet:
When he was six, Adam had begged his father to let him go to the village harvest fair, having heard stories from his mother of how fun it was, and desperate to meet other children for the first time. So his father had taken him—not as a kindness to his son, but so the villagers could meet their future lord, and be reminded of the current lord's terrible presence. His father had liked to appear among them periodically so they did not forget their place.
That day at the harvest fair was when Adam had learned that he was ugly. It was one of his earliest memories, all those people turning away from him with horrified expressions on their faces, the other children running away from him to hide, babies crying at the sight of his small but monstrous form. He'd always known he was different, but this was the first time he'd been among anyone other than his parents and servants, so he'd had no way of knowing he was not just different, he was hideous. On that day, he finally knew.
One face in particular stuck in his memories, because it looked so much like his mother's face, only older. She had looked right into his eyes and covered her mouth with her hands and wept. He'd had no way of knowing at the time that she was his grandmother. He'd never seen her before or since.
It was possible she was still alive now. He could have looked in the magic mirror or magic book to find out, but he'd never dared. He might even have other family than her still living, a grandfather, or cousins and uncles and aunts. Perhaps he'd even seen them that day when he was six, without knowing it. But he didn't want to know if they existed. It would be too painful to see his human family and know he couldn't be with them. Easier to just think he was on his own.

Austen ask: 2 & 25
2. Favorite Austen Man
Hmm this is so hard to choose! Darcy is wonderful because he's such a snobby dick at first and goes through so much growth, and what he does for Lydia shows what an incredible man he is.
Wentworth is wonderful because his passion and devotion to Anne for so many years is swoon-worthy.
But I guess I have to say Henry Tilney is my favorite. He's got it all! He's charming, funny, witty, silly, kind, honest, loving, playful, doesn't take himself too seriously, is handsome enough to be nice to look at but not so gorgeous that he's intimidating to us normal looking folks, he likes to read, he likes to dance, he likes going on walks, he knows muslin!

25. Favorite family connection
Henry and Eleanor Tilney are sibling goals! Their relationship is just a delight to read about. They are sweet and supportive and sassy to each other, and I love all of their little remarks and looks to each other that go right over Catherine's head but that they get because they know each other so well. They're so fun.
Thanks for the ask, I love both of these questions!
Here’s the list of questions if others would like to ask me one!

14 for the Austen asks!
14. Favorite love confession from the books
Do love confessions via letter count? Because if so, hands down, it's Captain Wentworth's letter. "You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope. Tell me not that I am too late, that such precious feelings are gone for ever. I offer myself to you again with a heart even more your own than when you almost broke it, eight years and a half ago. Dare not say that man forgets sooner than woman, that his love has an earlier death. I have loved none but you. Unjust I may have been, weak and resentful I have been, but never inconstant. You alone have brought me to Bath. For you alone, I think and plan." Ugh oh my god it is just unparalleled.
If we're going with spoken love confessions, I'll say Mr. Knightley's. He's just so agitated and earnest and desperate—just look at all the em dashes that Jane Austen uses in it! Adorable! And he keeps calling her "dearest" and is so humble and "If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more." So much goodness.
Thanks so much for the ask!

Romola Garai and Jonny Lee Miller in EMMA (2009)
Emma had no opportunity of speaking to Mr. Knightley till after supper; but, when they were all in the ballroom again, her eyes invited him irresistibly to come to her and be thanked.

The purest form of love is consideration. When someone thinks about how things would make you feel. Pays attention to detail. Holds you in regard when making decisions that could affect you. In any bond, how much they care about you can be found in how much they consider you

one word prompts: 8. window and/or 49. song for Sense and Sensibility? please and thank you!
Thank you for the prompt! This is the first time I wrote for Elinor and Edward, and it was fun to write something fluffy for them.
From where she stood by the window, Elinor could see that the flowers in the garden were slowly starting to bloom again. The garden was going to look quite beautiful this year, she suspected, and that was all because of her husband’s attention.
Soon after his proposal of marriage, she and Edward had talked about the Delaford Parsonage, their soon-to-be home, and what changes they wanted to make before they took possession of it. Edward assured her and her family that the repairs Colonel Brandon had insisted on had made the house very agreeable, and on her first visit to the parsonage, she agreed.
But it was the garden that stirred Edward’s interest the most.
A sudden movement in front of her drew her away from her memories. It was Edward waving his hand at her. Smiling and waving back at him, she left the room she was in, and passed through the hallway until she reached the door that led to the garden.
“Hello, Elinor,” Edward greeted her as she walked towards him. “Are you well, darling? You seemed to look pensive just now. Is there something I can do to help?”
Elinor smiled. “I was only thinking how much the garden has changed since I first came here.”
“Yes,” he said as he looked around them with satisfaction. “It’s coming along quite nicely. We’ll have to see if the roses prefer their new spot over their previous one, but I’m hopeful that this year, we’ll see more of them bloom than last year.”
“They will receive more sunshine now, so I’ll share your optimism,” she said. “Have you found a suitable location for where you want to plant the apple tree sapling Colonel Brandon is giving us?”
Her brother-in-law was always generous with them, and it gladdened her, on first seeing Edward and Colonel Brandon interact, that there was a bond of warmth and respect between them. She and Marianne agreed that their husbands were quite similar in many ways and how wonderful it was that a genuine friendship grew between them.
“I was thinking of planting it on the western side, about halfway between the house and the river. It will have the space there to grow, and it wouldn’t be in danger of being overshadowed by the other trees. What do you think?”
“I think that would be a good spot for it,” she said, smiling.

I love that folks are being more accepting of autism, but I don't love that autism is being sanitized into a quirk.
There's a cute and acceptable form of autism on social media, and I don't see any indication that folks are remotely ready for discussing the rest of it, which contains all the uncomfortable things that impede a person's everyday life, require support, and make acceptance almost impossible—where the hygiene struggles, inappropriate social behaviors, involuntary movements and outbursts, meltdowns, and emotional dependence issues live. And the cuter and more sanitized the "good" autism gets, the more unacceptable the "bad" autism becomes.
