At their Buckingham Palace wedding reception, singer Ellie Goulding performed her rendition of Elton John's “Your Song" for the William and Catherine's first dance, her hits "The Writer" and "Starry Eyed," and several of William and Kate's personal favorites.
“Performing the first dance of the night, Your Song, was nerve-wracking. My pianist, Chris, was nervous, too. It was just me and him on the stage at the time. I just remember looking at him and going, ‘What is going on right now?’
And then everyone came in, and we had to start. It was a really beautiful moment, but yeah, very scary!
I was so nervous that my hands were shaking like this [she shakes her hands]. That was one of my memories, I remember looking down and just seeing this.
But William and Kate were very appreciative. They are an awesome couple and told me how much they enjoyed it.
It was a really, really magical night. It was definitely one of the best nights of my life. I never thought I’d feel that honoured. The atmosphere was incredible and it’s something I will never forget.”
“They strike me as deeply sensible. Realistic. But also people with strong ideals about marriage and other things.”
“We’ve talked a great deal about the meaning of marriage and the meaning of their marriage in particular; some of the obvious strains of being in the public eye all the time. But as I say, they have thought through what they want from the service and what they want from their marriage.”
“They do have a commitment— a priority of being there for each other. A very simple and strong personal commitment. And it’s that kind of strength and realism which has impressed me.”
