By my side
Characters: Kelly Severide x Platonic!Reader, Matt Casey x Platonic!Reader, Sylvie Brett x Platonic!Reader
Warnings: Toxic men, abuse, protective firefighters.
Summary: You should've been better but at least your family is by your side.
A/N: For the sake of this, there'll be two ambulances which means two PIC's.
This has been sitting in my drafts for months unfinished and I suddenly decided to finish it after work on the train. Also couldn't be asked to proofread so sorry for any mistakes!! And I know this aesthetic thing sucks but it's been a long day and I'm tired, so sorry again. 😅😅
Tumblr media
Being a paramedic had always been your dream.
Growing up in a first responder household: firefighter dad and patrol officer mum, paramedics were a constant presence around them. So, it was only natural that was were you gravitated towards.
Following this, working at firehouse 51 was a given since that was where your father was a Captain at till he became battalion chief and moved to another house.
Your family had history in this house, making it somewhat sacred ground for anyone who shared your family's surname.
Yes, there had been times when you had to prove your worth and that you weren't a nepo baby but your family in everything but blood were always somehow five steps ahead of you.
So it only made sense that when you started to skip going to Molly's and skimping on details about what you did during your day offs, that they were concerned and confused to say the least.
Six months later, after nearly holding an intervention, you introduced everyone to your boyfriend Mason.
It was safe to say, everyone had their suspicions, even after being together for a year. All of which you excused, diverting and switching blame.
*****
You thought that you were finally happy with how everything in your life was settling but all of a sudden, fate decided that stability wasn't necessary for you.
Shouting and constant arguing should've been the first sign, blaring as bright as the sun, warning and shouting at you to break it off before reaching the one year mark but you briskly ignored it and marched on.
Then, the drinking problems, anger problems and impatience were made alight when you started living together. (he invited you to move in with him when celebrating one year together)
You found yourself not liking the man he started becoming the longer you were together. It irked you to no end and you constantly were skittish around him, finding it harder to have a civil conversation with him the more time passed.
It seemed that your feelings somehow transferred themselves over to your work life because you were suddenly snapping at the stand-in paramedic for Sylvie when she was sick for a petty reason.
The PIC in you forced you to immediately apologise before Kelly dragged you into his office, Matt following without a word.
Naturally, the three of you including Sylvie had a bond of 'commanding officers' as you were all in charge in some degree and over several years, the work relationship blossomed and the four of you were as thick as thieves.
It also helped that Matt and Kelly worked with your father and knew you from their pre-firefighter and your pre-paramedic days.
Under their concern filled gazes, you found yourself crumbling, eyes all of a sudden filled with tears from the stress of it all.
They couldn't help but confirm their fears which you tried to deny incessantly, for some reason defending Jason and explaining that this could all be fixed and everything would be back to normal in no time.
If only you didn't.
*****
Over the past year, everyone found you changing.
The stern but loving PIC you once were had become but a memory. It was as though you were a shell of your past self, something of which you agreed with.
Mason was draining the life out of you and the only time you weren't losing yourself to him was during your 24 hour shifts before being surrounded by him for the next 48.
You tried your best to leave, you really did but at some point in your now two year relationship, things took an abrupt turn and Mason had become this toxic, controlling man who has a newfound urge to resort to violence when you were being your true self.
Being PIC meant you had an amount of power under your title and after many years of work, you had perfected your nature. It's why you and Sylvie were so good at what you did; you used force when necessary and compassion was always on hand.
Over the course of the past year, you found yourself on the end of many interventions held by Matt, Kelly and Sylvie.
With all the reasons in the world, they argued and argued with you, laying out the easiest ways to break you free. They were as desperate as you were at this point to get you to break up with Jason. They missed and needed the old you back.
Unbeknownst to you, they schemed behind your back, trying and failing to convince you to leave Mason for good but you found yourself pathetically laughing at them before going home to endure hell.
You struggled to understand your behaviour. Abuse to this degree was something you never you experience firsthand and you would never wish it upon your worst enemies.
On sleepless nights, you constantly contemplated why you wouldn't leave. You wanted to, you really did but then you could hear him whisper in your ear and you remained firmly glued to his side.
So badly did you want to rip your arm out his earth shattering grip and run back home, to the safety of love and familiarity.
Your final decision was set in stone when he finally made his mark a month ago, fingertips bruised into your wrist when he wouldn't let you leave his car in front of the firehouse.
"Alright then, thank you for dropping me off. I'll see you tomorrow." You said, pressing your lips together in a tight smile, hand reaching for the door handle while the other fiddled with the handle of your tote bag.
He replied with something, you weren't too sure because you were already out the car, closing the door with practised precision and gentleness.
Your expressionless face brightened at the sight of your colleagues/friends/basically siblings at this point. The firehouse and all its inhabitants were truly your saving grace and without it, you weren't too sure where you would be.
Just as you were going to walk up the apron to meet them halfway, you were being pulled back by a random force. It was so sudden that you dropped your bag, your things spilling out as they rolled away.
You yelped, attracting the attention of those who weren't previously paying attention to your arrival in their mortal enemies car.
Scrunching your eyebrows, you turned to Mason in confusion, your eyes following the hand gripping your wrist to his face you were once infatuated with.
"What the hell Mason?!" You said with gritted teeth, trying to escape but he wouldn't let go. "Stop, your making a scene."
Before he could reply, several shouts came from behind you and before you knew it, you were being pulled into comforting arms as big and bulky men dealt with Mason.
"Oh Y/N." Sylvie's heart melted for you while it ignited in flames because of Mason. With your bag in one of her hands, she somehow collected all of your things, she brought you into her arms and hugged you tighter than a koala.
"Let me see your hand." She muttered under her breath, unbothered by the fuming men huddling around you in a protective barrier, on guard as they watched Matt and Kelly deal with Mason on the street.
She sucked in a sharp breath through her teeth at the finger shaped bruise on your wrist, you copying her when she lightly touched it. Despite her angelic exterior, you saw a red glint flash across her eyes, one you rarely saw but had seen several times before on the rare occasion.
If this was her reaction, then you were dreading Matt and Kelly's.
And your feelings were very much justified because as soon as they sent Mason away, you found yourself being subject to a very strong worded conversation.
They played the role of overprotective brothers perfectly. With the help of detectives who you were lucky to call good friends, your plan was set in stone and would take a week to fully come together.
Despite how meticulously everything was planned, you somehow ended up in the emergency room. Surrounded by doctors and nurses you recognised, you felt their sympathy and felt nearly emotional with the care that greeted you.
Thanking Maggie, you smiled and watch the charge nurse leave but you weren't alone for even a minute before three certain people came barging in.
With wide eyes, they drank in your slouched figure.
Matt looked alarmed, Kelly disgruntled and Sylvie on the edge of a breakdown.
You choked out a watery laugh, harshly swallowing back tears as you shook your head and blinked repeatedly. Releasing a shaky breath, you felt your chest tighten as your oxygen was constricted before it was all treated when enveloped in the loving arms of your 'siblings'.
Had it not been for your intense emotional state, you would've barked out in laughter at the anger displayed by Kelly who imitated a caged lion, Matt who spewed words Hank Voight would find offensive and Sylvie who played parts of a mother comforting their daughter but also Satan prepared to burn and punish sinners.
Your pain was muted by their presence alone. With their constant love and never-ending companionship by your side, you were sure to heal.

It felt a little strange. You couldn't remember when was the last time you had seen him or even heard someone mention his name. Yet he was here, face to face with you, after all those years.
"What are you doing here?" Severide asked. His voice brought you back to the present. By the look on his face, you could tell he was surprised. If it was a good surprise or a bad one, you couldn't tell. He’s always been really good at hiding his feelings. "I thought you had moved to Florida."
"I-I did." You smiled, nodding your head. "Couldn't get used to the weather, though." You confessed, earning a short laugh from the firefighter. You stared at him for a few seconds, lost in your thoughts, not knowing what to say next.
“So,” Severide tilted his head to the side. “What brings you back to Chicago?”. He curiously asked. “Don’t tell me it’s because of the weather.”
You laughed, then flashed a weak smile, looking at the paperwork in your hands. “Work, actually. A new school just opened up and they got in touch with me. Apparently they heard about the work I was doing down in Florida and wanted me to be part of their team.”
“That’s great.” Severide smiled. “I’m sure you're the best person for the job. You never loved anything more than teaching.”
The way he said it made your chest hurt. Your smile instantly faded away. “Kelly…” You took a step closer, trying to keep the conversation private. “Don’t do this. You know I loved you. Right?” You gently squeezed his arm.
“I know that.” He nodded, looking away before meeting your eyes again. "I know you loved me. I just don’t understand why you didn’t love me enough to stay."
The words caught you off guard. Before you could say anything back, he softly touched your hand on his arm and wished you goodbye.

I’ll take care of you-Kelly Severide
Summary: Your best friend, Kelly Severide, repays you for all the times you took care of him growing up.
Warnings: asthma attack
Author’s note: This will be a multipart fic, as requested by another user. I’ll post the final fic with the request attached. All fics will be platonic.
———
You have known Kelly Severide for years. As kids, you guys used to hide Kelly in your room when he needed to get away. Though your parents loved Kelly and often had him over for dinner, Kelly still had a habit of climbing the tree outside your bedroom window and lifting it up slowly after quietly knocking, needing his best friend.
You always welcomed Kelly with open arms. Often, you and Kelly would crawl into your little teepee, that you had in the corner of your room, and spend hours reading or talking. He was like the big brother you always wanted and you were like the little sister he always dreamed of, if he had any other life or parents.
To your parents, Kelly was the perfect kid with the less than ideal life, but you know how messed up his dad had made him. Most nights, Kelly found himself cuddled in your arms, face hidden in your neck while he quietly sobbed over whatever his dad happened to do or say that day. Some days, he would work up the courage to come in the front door earlier in the evening, needing to get out of his dad and the mistress of the week’s way. When it was time to get ready for bed, he would simply come climbing back through your window when the lights went out.
Today, Kelly had brought you home from school early. He basically dragged you out of the nurse’s office after you called for a ride. Though you were 18, you didn’t have a car. You would have just called your parents, but they were out of town and you couldn’t physically make it the 10 city blocks back home. Kelly ended up having to bridal carry you inside before rushing to get his things out of the car. Once he returned, you were shakily trying to set up your breathing machine, having insisted on the fact that “you weren’t kids anymore. You could do this yourself”, in between wheezes.
Kelly had enough, getting nervous as your lips began to turn blue. He snatched the tubing out of your shaking hands and finished attaching it before pouring in your medicine. Once he was satisfied that the machine was running smoothly, he placed the mask over your face. He had watched you and your parents do this throughout your childhood. This was nothing for him.
“I know we aren’t kids anymore, but letting me take care of you is just a little pay back for all the years you’ve taken care of me. Let your best friend have this one thing.” Kelly said dramatically, a pout gracing his lips as he stared at you.
You would have laughed if just breathing wasn’t a chore, but you settled for a smirk and a slight nod of the head.
“Thank you.” Kelly said, smiling brightly. “Hot chocolate, heating pad, more pillows, and your blanket from your room?” Kelly asked, standing from where he had previously settled on the coffee table.
You nodded and gave a double thumbs up. You reached for the remote, which Kelly slid into your hands before he made his exit. While he was running around, you picked your current Star Wars show and pulled it up. You happily let Kelly prop you up and cover you up before he ran back into the kitchen at the sound of the kettle whistling. He walked back in just in time for you to finish your meds. Kelly never ceases to amaze you. He sat down both mugs of hot chocolate before pressing a bottle of water into your hand, then reached up to take the mask off your face.
“Better?” Kelly asked, sliding a hand over your head to push the fly aways back before pressing a kiss to your forehead. “Your warm.” He commented, feeling your cheeks.
You nodded. “Figured. I was sitting in class when the coughing started. Normally, I’d stop and a puff of my inhaler would do the trick, but not today. Sorry to ruin our weekend.” You mumbled, shakily taking the cup of hot chocolate from Kelly as you spoke.
“Nonsense. You know I love hanging out with you. We will just have a movie weekend.” Kelly shrugged. “Let me get you some cold meds. Then I’ll settle in with you. You need to relax.” Kelly said, walking back into the kitchen. He didn’t take long, bringing back some medicine and a ear thermometer. “100.7. We can work with that.” Kelly said, tossing the medicine pack and thermometer on the table.
“You should go home Kel. I don’t want you sick.” You tried, knowing that he would object.
Kelly shrugged, throwing an arm around your shoulders. “And leave my best friend alone all weekend? Not a chance. Someone has to take care of you.” Kelly said, kissing your temple.
“I can take care of myself Kel. Really. I’d feel terrible if you got sick.” You whined, though you continued to snuggle into his side, knowing you were fighting a losing battle.
“I’ll take my chances.” Kelly said matter of factly. “Plus, you could barely walk 45 minutes ago. No way am I leaving you alone until you get stronger or your parents come home.” Kelly said, settling in to watch the show you put on.
“Alright. Alright. Fine.” You said, yawning.
“Shhhh. Get some rest sweetheart. I’ll be here when you wake up.” Kelly said, helping you get comfortable.
“Thanks Kel.” You whispered, snuggling into his chest and letting your eyes drift shut as you fell asleep to the beat of his heart.

Jay Halstead (& Platonic! Will Halstead): People You Love
Some stories just write themselves and that is what this one did. I’ve been in a writing mood lately and I have a whole list of ideas I want to go through. This isn’t super Jay x reader-focused.
Warnings: Mentions of PTSD and anti Will/ Natalie content
You took a sip of your drink listening to Will talk to his brother about his latest disagreement with Natalie. You had learned at the beginning of your relationship with Jay and first meeting Will that it was not a topic of conversation that you should chime in on.
Will wanted to be with Nat and there was nothing that could change that to his and her own detriment. You stirred the brightly colored liquid with your straw, listening to the ice cubes click against the glass. It was a sweet drink that Gabby had made for you. You were one of the few who frequented Molly’s that didn’t drink beer and only ordered mixed drinks. You had gotten hell for it from a few of the blue-collar boys, but Gabby had taken that as a challenge. There was always a new drink she had found for you to try.
You tried to hide your wince by taking a drink when Will went through some particularly low blows of the fight. The saying sticks and stones make break my bone never considered how cutting words could be. Especially from the people who were supposed to love you. “You want another babe?” Your eyes flashed between his eyes and your cup which you now found almost empty. You hesitate, but with the way Will is going, you will probably be here for quite a while yet.
“Yeah, just one more,” You agree. You watch him leave the table and make his way over to the crowded bar top. He wouldn’t have to wait if not for your drink, but he never complained. You heard a sigh and the loud click of a bottle being set more forcefully on the table.
“Alright, let's hear it.” You glance up at Will expectantly. You weren’t close but you had acquaintanceship because of Jay. You liked Will but it was hard to form a real friendship with someone when you felt like you had to edit everything you said because they couldn’t handle your honesty. Will had a strong alpha male confidence and ego. He needed someone who could call him to the carpet, but you weren’t willing to risk your relationship with Jay to be that for him. You tilted your head in question to his statement. “I know you want to say something, so let’s hear it.” You shake your head circling your straw in your cup again. The bangles that lined your arms clinked together loudly as they slid down to your wrists. “C’mon,” Will pressed.
“It’s nothing you want to hear.”
“But there is something you want to say.” His gaze held yours and he raised his eyebrows in question. There was a challenging spark in his eyes. He was looking for a fight. “You’ve been with my brother for almost a year and never had an opinion you wanted to share about any of my relationship problems? I doubt that. I’ve been trying and nothing has been working out. So, I’m up for a female viewpoint.”
“What you want is a fight. I like my relationship with Jay, I’m not going to ruin it by fighting with his older brother.” Will sits up a little straighter in his seat.
“Is that so? Well, this one can be on the house. No backlash or fallout. The way I see it-I asked, you answered.” You eye him up and down trying to determine the truth of his words and if he was able to abide by what he just offered. You looked at the bar. Jay was leaning leisurely against the bar top talking to Kelly Severide, Matt Casey, and Gabby. You could tell he was still going to be a minute. You look back at Will and nod.
“You and Natalie are never going to work.” Will blows out a breath and leans back in his seat before scoffing and shaking his head.
“You don’t-” You shake your head at him holding up your hand making all the bangles clank down to the bottom of your forearm, the loud noise effectively covering up his rebuttal.
“Uh-uh, you asked my opinion and now you're going to listen to it.” Will mouth turns into a firm line but he stays silent. “You two are bad for each other. I know you want it to work, to figure it out, for the little rainbows and butterflies to flutter down to fix all your problems. But it’s not going to happen. You two are bad for each other. She is bringing out the worst in you and from what I can tell- from the very limited time I’ve spent with you together- you are doing the same for her.”
“I love her,” You shake your head at the redheaded man in front of you.
“What you're doing to each other isn’t love Will. I know you care about her. Want what’s best for her but that doesn’t make it you. Love is finding each other's soft spots, their weakness. It’s learning and knowing exactly what could destroy them. It’s having all that power and choosing to protect them instead of bringing them to their knees.” You play with a bangle on your wrist twisting it, “I’ve been in a relationship where we picked each other to pieces, and I promise you Will that isn’t what you want.” You feel your eyes mist over with emotion, “It’s hard letting go but when you find someone that goes out of their way to protect you...When you would do anything to protect them...You will know that you’ve made the right decision.”
“I protect Natalie.” You shake your head at Will getting frustrated with his purposeful ignoring of the issues. “We just get heated sometimes, say things we don’t-”
“That’s what I am saying, Will. It seems to happen every other week with you too. Over stupid things that don’t matter.”
“Unlike you and Jay. Because I’m sure you too never fight.” Will shoots back and your frustration rises.
“Jay has PTSD. I’m more worried about protecting his mental health than notching up our day-to-day bickering. He gets in this headspace sometimes and it is irritating and frustrating because I just want him to talk to me. For him to let me help him. But he won’t. I didn’t understand at first. How could I? Then he had a really bad bout of it after a case. He didn’t hear me come in and I startled him. He pulled his gun on me. Pointed it right at my head.”
Will felt his own frustration turn into something churning in his stomach. He knew his brother struggled with PTSD from time to time. He knew that he had nightmares and that there were times when he was constantly on edge- hypervigilant. But Will had never been there to see the full extent of it. “When he realized it was me, I could see it all in his eyes. He was afraid that he could hurt me. That I would be afraid to be around him. If he had any idea how terrified I was, not that he would hurt me but that he would torture himself with it. Nobody can hurt Jay like Jay can. The fallout was awful. He struggled to get past it. I knew that it could never happen again.”
“So, what did you do?”
You looked at your arm and wiggled it. The bangles clank loudly together. “I made it so I can never sneak up on him again. When I went through my Bollywood phase and bought bangles my mom used to complain that the entire neighborhood could hear me when I walked around. I’m sure one highly trained soldier can hear it coming from a mile away.” You look over to meet your gaze with Will again. “Now when I see the signs, I wear them. That is what you do for the people you love.”
A look of understanding and respect is clear in Will’s eyes. You give him a smile and feel the threads of friendship beginning to form on the strong foundation of honesty and shared love of another person. “If you ever tell him that-” Will mimics zipping his lips before taking the last pull of his beer. You two sit in quiet understanding, and you can see Will marinating on your words. Whether they are thoughts about Jay or his relationship with Natalie you were unsure.
Jay returns a few minutes later, setting a vivid blue and green drink in front of you and two bottles of beer for the brothers. You eyed the drink thoughtfully, “Gabby said you had to try it. She called it sweet poison, I think.” You stir it before sipping through the straw. You could taste the rum. Gabby had a habit of being heavy-handed with your drinks. It was good though. You turned to look at Gabby and when she raised her eyebrows in question you gave her an enthusiastic nod. She fist-pumped her accomplishment before turning back to Matt. “That good?”
His strong hand found your thigh under the table, and you smiled at him. You caressed his forearm with one hand while pushing the drink closer to him with the other. “Yeah, try it.” He made a face at you but took a drink from the cup, not the straw. He merely shrugged his shoulders when you asked what he thought. “Yeah, yeah it’s always too sweet for you.” Jay looks over at his brother.
“You okay man?” He questions, Will was being too quiet.
“Yeah,” He runs his fingers through his curls, “I was just thinking... Might be a good time to get away for a while. Maybe do a week trip at Gramp's cabin. Fish and stock up on some more wood for the winter. You want to go?” The offer seems to throw Jay for a second. Between Will’s struggling relationship and Jay being busy with a heavy caseload they hadn’t had much time to spend together. Jay looks over at you and you smile brightly at him squeezing his arm.
“Yeah, I have some time saved up that I need to go through.”

Are you free Saturday? I know a spot
Those two texts come in rapid succession as you finish cleaning the store up. You’d usually try to avoid checking your phone so often in front of your manager, but by this time you were usually the only one left.
What did you have in mind?
You erase the message in-between organizing the new book shipment.
Saturday? That’s a little too close for me.
You erase that message while balancing the books for that day.
By the time you lock up the store and head home, you had thought up a couple million ways to respond before erasing them. Putting your key in the lock and you finally respond with a simple Yes.
Your next thought was right before you slid into bed for the night. Where the hell is your dress?
Specifically, your little black one that showed off all of your curves. The one that was probably lonely from being unused for so many years.
Having split from your husband over a year ago and trying to start fresh back in Chicago, you were worrying yourself into a spiral. You hadn’t been on a date since you were 22 and you were feeling out of place, getting back into the dating scene at 29.
You and your ex had grown apart from the moment your marriage started. You had done everything you could to keep everything together. You—being the one who made more money—had bought a big house. One that had room for you two to grow a family and have a backyard for a dog. It felt right at the time, maybe it would be enough so the walls didn’t seem like they were closing in.
You and your ex had been fine. But that’s all you were…fine. You finally convinced him to do therapy with you and, unfortunately, the final straw for you was when you realized that he loved you more at 23, then at 27.
You had filed for divorce not long after that. He claimed he hadn’t seen it coming, and fought you for the house. You gave into it, wanting him to just sign the papers and be done with it. In the end, when you signed your lease back in your home city of Chicago you finally checked the box “divorced.”
It had been quite the change, getting used to being back in the city. You contacted one of your oldest friends, Kelly Severide, to hang out and catch up.
It was at one of those meet ups that you met Kelly’s girlfriend, Stella Kidd, and the two of you hit it off instantly.
Now a year later, Stella and Kelly were getting ready to get married, and you voiced your thoughts to them about dating again. Stella said that she had a friend who was your type.
You had no idea what that meant, but after a few failed attempts at signing up for one of those awful dating apps, you gave Stella permission for her to give her friend your number.
The day after the first two texts were sent, he texted you again saying: Great! I’ll pick you up at 7.
You remembered at 22 being a little more cautious about a man picking you up for a date, but you trusted Kelly and Stella so you tried trusting this guy too.
It was hard, everything you’ve ever known about dating, relationships, and love had been ruined with the breakdown of your marriage. Now you wished it wasn’t affecting your thoughts this long after.
So is it any wonder that it’s 6:52 on Saturday and you’re trying to reassure yourself by saying you got this during your last looks in the mirror.
“You’ll be fine,” Kelly was saying over the speakerphone as you contemplated taking a shot to calm your nerves, “Do you think we don’t have your best interest at heart?”
“Kelly,” you say plainly, “It’s been years since I’ve been on a date. I’m gonna look so stupid stumbling over myself and what if he brings up my marriage? You told him about that right? How do I fucking do this? Is it wrong if I take a shot of something?”
“Stella,” you hear Kelly call from his end, obviously feeling like he needed backup, “she’s freaking out.”
“Yes I am.” You almost growl in confirmation, “I blame you both for this. What was I thinking?”
“Relax, girl,” Stella’s voice says over the line in a reassuring tone, “I got you. Look, I’ve known Jay for a while okay, and I’m sure you’ll charm the socks off of him.”
“Oh god,” you say, slapping a hand to your forehead almost dramatically, “I know he’s too good to be true. What have you done, Stella.”
“Breathe, Y/N,” Kelly says, his voice clear and unyielding.
There was a knock on the door. You jump slightly, looking up at the clock on the stove. 7:00 on the dot.
You curse, telling Kelly and Stella that he was there. They told you to have fun and they’ll call you later for details before immediately hanging up on you.
Cursing your friends once more, you open the door, and your breath lapses. You were going to kill Stella for understating his looks by saying he was “good-looking”.
He was much more than good-looking. He was gorgeous. His dark hair was cut evenly. His eyes were a mix of blue and green and freckles littered across his features. He was dressed for a date, his outfit lining the structures of his body. You feel slightly better about choosing your black dress for this, you may even want to wake up tomorrow with it on a floor that isn’t yours.
I’m ready, you tell yourself in your head.
And for the first time since this whole thing started, you believe it.

Synopsis: You almost lose Kelly on a call one day, and it's all you can think about, so much that you have a night terror.
Warnings: Mentions of loss, swearing, shitty writing. (Let me know if I missed anything!)
Word Count: 1.9k
“If I’m on fire, you’ll be made of ashes too.”
“You okay?” You jumped out of your thoughts at the sound of Kelly’s voice. Removing your head from the palm of your hands, you turned your head to the side to look at him. “Yeah, I’m good” you said standing up, continuing to grab your belongings from your locker. “You?” you asked him curiously without looking at him, trying to brush off his concern and appear as unbothered as possible.
Things got serious on a call today. Being on squad for the past couple years has most obviously exposed you to some traumatic situations, but they usually didn’t involve one of your co-workers- this co-worker being your lieutenant, roommate, and the man you’ve grown to love. “Sore, but good” he responded.
“For the brush with death you had, I’m surprised you’re in one piece. Thought I was going to have to post a ‘roommate needed!’ flyer around the firehouse” you joked, as you sat down to tie your boots. The only way you knew how to cope with the fact that you almost lost the man you haven’t confessed your love for yet was through horrible ‘comedic’ small talk.
Severide chuckled in response, watching your every move as he waited patiently for you. “Will cleared me at med, I’m good” he assured you. “You told me you were ‘good’ today when you had an entire chimney crushing you. Just another day at the office though, eh?” you stood up and looked up at him with playful, annoyed eyes; this type of exchange was regular for you both. “You got it” he smiled back, putting an arm around you as he guided you out of the locker-room.
The drive back to your shared apartment was quiet. You and Severide were not ones to share your feelings with each other- you were merely friends; roommates; co-workers. You both had your own mental problems but being on squad definitely added to the pre-existing trauma-pile. You shared many similarities with Kelly – familial trauma, not telling anyone anything, being hard-headed – and this made it easier to keep your relationship on a platonic level. Only opposites attract, right?
“What’s going on in that big brain of yours” Severide asked, earning a laugh from you in response. He had one hand on the steering wheel, the other on his gear shift. He looked over at you, scanning your face as if the answer was hidden somewhere on your complexion. “Nothing, Kel. Promise. Just a long day” you shot him a smile, as you once again pretended that you weren’t riddled with anxiety.
Playing repeatedly in your head were the events that had occurred just a few hours prior. You were pacing outside the burning house, resisting the urge to run back in and mentally preparing yourself for the possibility of losing another member of firehouse 51 (and coincidentally, another best friend) in the line of duty. You were attempting to envision a life without Kelly, and you just couldn’t. You had already written him into the rest of your life, he just didn’t know it.
First Hermann and Ritter ran out, then Cruz and Tony- with missing equipment. “Tony, where is your mask?!” the chief asked him in shock. Tony’s hands were on his knees as he attempted to cough out the soot in his lungs. “Kelly… he ran… out of air” he spat out in between. The chief clenched his jaw in anxiety, the expression of severe concerned plastered across his face. Seeing your chief unable to keep his cool always sent you into an internal spiral.
You whipped your entire body and started walking towards him. “Chief, please let me go in there, I don’t weigh as much, and I can help them” you walked towards him and begged; you felt useless. You would loathe yourself for the rest of eternity if you could’ve done something to save Kelly’s life and you didn’t. “I’m not risking another life, Y/L/N” Boden sternly said, with a hint of disappointment knowing there was nothing anyone could do but wait.
Before you were able to plead with him once again, an explosion had occurred, the sound and vibration echoing in your chest and bouncing off every wall inside of you. You wanted to scream in horror, knowing your best-friend’s last moments could very well be taking place in this burning house, but you were unable to produce any sound. Your eyes were locked on the front door in anticipation, and you could barely believe it when you saw Casey and Cruz emerge with him.
Running towards Kelly and engulfing him, you felt like you were dreaming; you thought he was dead. “Fuck, Kel. You scared me” you muttered into his shoulder, relief washing away your anxiety. Kelly had been in many dangerous situations before, but even he thought he wasn’t going to make it this time.
You snapped out of it once you heard his voice. “I can read you like a book. Why don’t you just talk to me?” Says him. “You… read books?” you put a hand up to your mouth for theatrics, asking him with exaggerated sarcasm which caused him to roll his eyes.
“Okay, keep joking around, Y/L/N” he chuckled to himself, knowing you weren’t going to crack anytime soon. He wishes you would just open up to him, but he knew it went both ways. “I think everyone’s going to Molly’s tonight, you want to go?” he asked you as he pulled into his parking spot. “I’ll see how I feel after we order some takeout” you winked, heading upstairs.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You and Kelly ordered some Chinese food, deciding to sit on the couch and watch the Bear’s game. Leaning your head on his shoulder, you attempted to slurp your noodles, which resulted in soy sauce splattering all over your face. He chuckled, and grabbed a napkin, dabbing the corners of your mouth. “You’re a mess, Y/L/N” he said, staring at you in admiration. “Hey, you knew what you were getting yourself into before we became roommates” you shrugged, watching him walk to the front door.
“I’m gonna head out to Molly’s, you comin’?” he said as he put on his leather jacket. If you were to be tempted with alcohol, the night would end with you in the back of an ambulance (and not ambulance 61). “Nah, I’ll pass. I’m tired” you spoke as honestly as you could get across. You did want to see your 51 family- they always cheered you up. But tonight, you knew you needed some self-care (if you count contemplating your entire existence as a self-care activity).
Kelly nodded his head, signalling that he understood. “Have a good night though, Kel. Be safe” you shot him a smile, and he saluted you on his way out. “Always, Y/N.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was 1:00am, and you were wondering what you did to deserve the tossing and turning you’ve been enduring for the past 2 hours. Perhaps all the melatonin had seeped out of your body being replaced by stress in the form of adrenaline. You kept replaying Kelly’s close call from that afternoon in your mind, a variation of ‘What If’s’ being overthought.
Kelly was your rock. You’d never admit that – especially not to him – but it was true. You were strong, independent, brave, and a plethora of other qualities that make up a badass female firefighter, but even resilient people need to be held sometimes.
By the time you had finally fallen asleep, your brain had decided to concoct a very vicious recall of events in the form of a vivid nightmare. Everything went exactly as it had in real life, except Kelly didn’t survive. He was pulled out by Casey and Cruz, and Capp, Tony, Hermann, and Ritter helped place him on a stretcher.
“Oh my… Kel??? Kelly. Wake up. Please, you have to wake up!” The chief was attempting to hold you back, but you broke out of his grasp in desperation. You vowed to stay right by his side as Brett and Foster went to work, but it was too late. And all you could do was let out an earth-shattering scream. “Kel… Kelly… WAKE UP!!!”
The sound of footsteps sounded into your room. “Hey, hey, Y/N. I’m right here. Hey, you’re okay” he cooed. You jostled awake and couldn’t distinguish reality from your nightmare- there was no way Kelly was right next to you, touching you, holding you; alive and well. “Wh- What? Kel?” You squinted and touched his arm, attempting to verify his liveliness. “It’s me, you had a bad dream. Everything’s okay” he assured.
Using the back of your hand to wipe off the layer of sweat that formed on your forehead, you looked down and realized you drenched the sheets with sweat.
You looked back at him, trying to convince yourself that he’s not just a figment of your imagination, but a real person. The second you saw his eyes glimmer in concern, you began to bawl, holding onto him with all your might. “I know… I know. Let it out. Everything’s okay. You’re safe.” Your head was nestled into his bare chest, and you knew you’d get tears and slobber all over him, but you figured you couldn’t embarrass yourself any more than you already have. His arm was around your shoulder, engulfing your entire body; no one’s ever held you with such fortitude.
After a 5-minute sob session, you reached over to grab a Kleenex from your bedside table. “I’m sorry I woke you up, you sniffled, avoiding eye contact. The strong fort you put up had been knocked down by your own brain; you felt betrayed. “You don’t have to put on a façade, Y/N. Especially not around me. You don’t always have to be the strong one” he advised. “Kel- I’m” “That’s exactly what I’m talking about, Y/N. You’re not okay” he responded, grabbing your chin with his index finger so you’d look at him. “Let me help you” he nearly begged; he just wanted to see you happy.
Your lip began to quiver, and you felt tears reach the brim of your eyes once again as you quietly said, “I lost you, Kel. It felt so real.” You shuddered in horror, recalling what you just dreamt. He didn’t want to pry too much so he took what you said as a start. “I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere. I promise.” You nodded slowly, feeling like a helpless child.
The motion of him rubbing his large, calloused hands up and down your back restored your inner peace, and you felt the safest you had ever felt under his touch. Your eyelids grew heavy, a headache from your crying session already starting to develop. You began to drift off; with his arms around you, you felt like everything was okay, and that all that mattered was the present- you and Kelly together.
He wrapped his arms around you, keeping you in his hold and kissing the top of your head. He muttered an ‘I love you’, but little did he know you heard all 3 words; you were safe here.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Y'all... it's been too long. I'm truly sorry. School is killing me, and September was going well until I got into a car accident, and I've been playing catch up ever since. Just an extremely stressful time right now, so I'm very sorry- if you're waiting for me to write your request, I appreciate your patience! I really want this to be a fun thing for me rather than a chore, but with school, unfortunately I have 0 time for hobbies. But I am going to try. I hope this imagine was bearable- please comment any feedback/ what you thought! PS this is based on the episode where the chimney falls on Kelly in season 7.

Homecoming
Tumblr media
Pairing: Jay Halstead x Severide!reader, Severide x reader (platonic)
Wordcount: 1957
Summary: You and Jay have been married for two years. He's a detective and you're still in the army. You've been deployed for months, but, after getting injured in an ambush, you get to come home early. However, Jay doesn't know you've survived or that you're coming home.
Warnings: A bit of talk about injuries and gunshot wounds, not detailed.
Note: This the first story I've posted. Feel free to tell me what you think or if you have any ideas for other stories.
Story:
You had seen him before you even walked through the gate. You had noticed him through the big glass wall between baggage claim and the arrivals hall. You started walking faster and as you walked trough the sliding doors into the arrivals hall you immediately saw the smile on his face start to grow. You ran straight into his arms. “Hey short stack, good to see you.” Kelly said, wrapping his arms around you and spinning you through the air. “I missed you, Kelly.” You told your brother. “I missed you too, kiddo. How was your flight?” Kelly asked and you told him everything.
For some time you and Kelly just talked. You told him about your deployment, -as much as you could without giving away any classified information- and he told you about everything that had happened at the firehouse in the last seven months. You talked and talked until you couldn’t help but ask the questions that had been burning inside you. “How’s Jay? Have you talked to him?” You asked Kelly.
You had met Jay while in the rangers. Jay had liked you from the moment you met, but you found him mostly annoying. Despite that, you two worked well together and no matter how much you wanted to deny it, the more time you spent with the man, the more you started to like him. For months you refused to tell him tough, because you knew that when your colleagues would find out you were dating, they would treat you differently. For Jay it wouldn’t matter. They would probably congratulate him and pat him on the shoulder proudly, but you? You were a woman in a testosterone filled profession. You had no doubt that if the other soldiers found out you were dating, they would bully you, start thinking of you as weak, incapable of doing your job. Unfortunately, that didn’t take away the fact that you were falling for Jay, hard. Knowing it would be his last deployment, on the day before he went home, you told him how you felt. You couldn’t let him slip out of your life without knowing you reciprocated his feelings.
From that moment on, you were together, but it wasn’t easy. After leaving the army, Jay spiralled. He started drinking and doing drugs and he barely slept. The times when you were deployed were the hardest, because there was nothing you could do to help the man you cared so much about. However, when you were home, you did everything you could think of to help him with his problems and through his nightmares. Jay had a hard time asking for and accepting help, which was hard on you and your relationship. You broke up twice, but never lost contact. You were always there for him and so, when Jay finally got the help he needed and went to the police academy, everything started looking up. Jay was finally in a better place and you had gotten a promotion in the army. You got back together with Jay and for the next few years everything was perfect.
Until one faithful night when Jay was working late and his phone started ringing. You had been injured during a reconnaissance mission. Somehow, your mission got leaked and you and three of your colleagues were ambushed. You got hurt the worst, catching five bullets in your shoulder, leg, chest and two in your lower abdomen. It was nothing less than a miracle that you had made it through, the bullet in your chest having missed your heart by millimetres. You spent a week in intensive care and you had scared Jay nearly to death. He had never realised how short life could actually be. He still wanted to do so many things with you, he had so many thing to tell you. He hadn’t even gotten the chance to tell you he was offered a spot in the intelligence unit. The unit he had dreamt of being a part of ever since he found out about the incredible work they did. While you were in the hospital, he barely left your side, realising exactly how much you meant to him and that he couldn’t live without you. He was completely in love with you and so, a week after you had left the hospital he asked you to marry him. He had taken you to dinner at your favourite restaurant and afterwards taken you for a lakeside walk. In the cool evening air, the sun setting in the sky, he had gotten down on one knee and asked you if you wanted to spend the rest of your life by his side. Without a doubt on your mind, you had said yes. Jay Halstead was the man you wanted to grow old with. Despite being overjoyed that you said yes, Jay was also scared. He was scared because once you got the all clear, you were going back overseas and after you had gotten hurt, that terrified him to his core. At first, he didn’t talk about it though, until you got back from your next deployment and he finally broke. He told you how scared he was and that started a conversation. You talked about resigning from the army, though, at that time, you didn’t want to. You were doing too much good to just stop and so, you kept talking about it. You had decided to put no pressure on your engagement, because even though you both wanted to get married, you both had jobs that kept you busy and you wanted your day to be just right. Therefore, it took you a few years to tie the knot, but you did it and now, you were about to celebrate your second anniversary.
With being married also came conversations about the future. You both wanted to become parents and that caused you to finally give in to the one thing Jay had asked you so many times over the years. You were resigning from the military. The deployment you had just finished, had been your last. You just hadn’t told Jay yet and it had ended roughly. After your last conversation with Jay, which had taken place two weeks ago, the humvee you were in had hit an IED. Your unit got lucky though. You all made it. You had gotten injured, but you survived. You had cuts and bruises all over your body but your worst injury was a concussion that had almost completely passed and actually came with a perk. The injury was enough cause for you to be sent home. Back to Chicago. Back to Jay.
“Honestly? Jay’s not doing too good, Adam told me he barely ever goes home, makes reckless decisions in the field and he won’t talk to anyone.” Kelly told his sister. Your face fell. You knew it would be hard on him, but you didn’t expect it to hit him this hard. When Kelly saw the look on your face, he knew there was only one thing left to do. “Come on, I’ll take you to him.” He said as he stood up from his chair.
All Jay knew was that you were injured. He didn’t know what had happened or how bad your injuries were. For all he knew, you could be dead, but he couldn’t think about that. You could just as easily be alive. But then, why hadn’t he heard anything yet? He was just thinking of an excuse to use to make more overtime, when he was pulled out of his thoughts by the noise coming from the bullpen. For a second he thought he heard your name, but he quickly shrugged the thought out of his mind. You were on the other side of the world. You weren’t supposed to be home for at least another month, so it couldn’t be you. His curiosity was peaked though, so he walked out of the break room to see what was going on.
“Hey, what’s up?” He asked, noticing his whole unit had gathered around something or someone in the middle of the bullpen. He got lucky he was standing next to his desk, because when Kevin moved out of the way and Jay saw who had walked into his workplace the cup of coffee he was holding, slipped out of his hands and onto the table. Jay couldn’t believe that you were actually here, but, without an order from his brain, his legs started moving towards you. When he was right in front of you he still couldn’t believe he wasn’t hallucinating. His hand slowly moved towards your cheek, hesitant, because he was scared you would disappear as soon as he touched you, but he still had to touch you to know if you were real. The moment his thumb touched your cheek, tears appeared in his eyes. “Am I dreaming? Tell me I’m not dreaming?” He begged you, a single tear travelling down his face. Seeing your husband this scared, this vulnerable, made you emotional. You took his hand from your cheek, opened your jacket and placed it over your heart. “I’m here Jay, I’m okay. I’m right here.” You whispered. That was enough for Jay to wrap his arms around you and pull you as close to him as he possibly could and you did the same. As he picked you up, you wrapped your legs around his waist, leaving no room in between you anymore. Both you and Jay had stopped holding back your tears, letting them run over your faces. He had hidden his in your hair and yours was pressed into the crook of his neck.
For a while you just stood there, the world around you none existent. Just you and your husband, finally together again. As he carefully put you down, Jay pulled back to look at your face, into your eyes. “Hi” you said softly, wiping the tears from your face. A small smile appeared on Jay’s face as he looked you over. “God, I missed you so much, but… how are you here?” Your husband then asked. “Well, when we were ambushed, I got knocked out. I woke up in the hospital a week later completely fine, just a nasty concussion to remind me of what happened. Unfortunately that meant I couldn’t use anything technological for a week, but it was enough to get me sent home a few weeks early.” You explained. “And why wouldn’t you tell me that earlier?” Jay asked you. “I’m sorry about that. Everything just happened so fast and before I knew it I was on a flight home thinking it would be fun to surprise you. But when Kelly told me how you were doing, I realised that may not have been such a great idea.” You told him. That reminded you, you had a question yourself: “Why did you take it so hard?”
“Are you kidding? I didn’t even know what happened, let alone how you were. I called everyone I know in the military, but no one had answers. I’ve been checking my phone every five minutes expecting either you, telling me you were fine and you would come back in a month or some army guy telling me you were dead. I was worried sick, Y/N.” Jay confessed, more tears covering his cheeks, his arms pulling you closer. You stroked his cheek with your thumb. “Hey, I’m here okay? I’m home. And I resigned. I don’t have to go back, ever. I’m not leaving you again, I love you, Jay.” Jay didn’t say anything. He just did the one thing he had been dreaming of doing every day for the last seven months. He kissed you.

“Happy Birthday”
kelly severide x platonic fem!reader, andy darden x sister!reader (idk if i’m using the exclamation points right sorry guys)
a/n: i thought this would be cute, i don’t know if im going to do very many love interest kelly stories bc i rlly just see him as a big brother figure so majority will prob be y/n under platonic and sibling pov’s. I also figured I should write for someone other than Otis for once, but dw those are still coming ;)🤎
^^ continuation: idk if his birthday is correct I honestly did one google search and couldn’t find anything so i just made one up because i feel like he’s a capricorn LOL. also i basically completely made this timeline up because i don’t know if the seasons qualify as one whole year so im gonna say season 6 is 6 years after Andy’s death im so sorry if im wrong haha.
warnings: angst, fluffy, swearing, alcohol, not proofread so anything i missed?
Tumblr media
Y/N’s POV:
January 3rd, six and half years after Andy’s death and everyday still feels the same without him, dull and empty. I’ve worked through it though, just trying to take life one day at a time. The pain began to feel less prominent as I’ve learned to live with it. But today is my birthday. Which is a never ending reminder of who I don’t have with me which is Andy. Another reminder is that today is also Kelly’s birthday, so today feels like pouring acid salt into a cut so deep I can see bone.
Kelly and Andy were best friends growing up, and since Andy was friends with Kelly, I was friends with Kelly. They always brought me along everywhere with them, even when they didn’t want or have to. It was funny growing up because they would pretend to be firefighters and talk about how they were going to save the city one burning building at a time, and me being the 6 year old I was when I started playing with them, I decided that being a paramedic would be easier. You know because fighting fires is only a man’s job according to 6 year old me. So when Kelly and Andy were off to the academy to fight fires, I was off to a school of my own to help them when they get hurt. Now after what felt like a hundred years i’d finished becoming a PIC and craved more in life. So I met up with both Andy and Kelly and told them I was also going to go to the academy to become a firefighter. Andy was thrilled, he talked about how I could continue working at 51 with both of them and it would be amazing. Kelly however did not feel the same. He thought I was making a mistake, so when I went to school and finally graduated, Andy died. This only made me more determined to finish out his legacy and finish the job he wasn’t able to do. 5 years later I was a lieutenant at firehouse 90 since I could no longer bare the pain of working with Kelly anymore, and I was offered a job to go fight wildfires in California. Now a year and a half later I’m back.
I was two years younger than my two older brothers even if only one of them was really blood related. Kelly and I’s birthday landed on the same day though and that made Andy go all out every single year. So yeah, it truly sucked when Andy died and the extravagant parties, and food, and people died along with him too. Today marks 6 and half years of our brother being gone and Kelly and I haven’t spent this day together since. I miss him, I really do but it hurt so much without Andy. Our birthday was just another reminder of him being gone. But now 6 years later I’ve finally decided to put my big girl pants on and celebrate with him.
Kelly was never a birthday boy. He hated all of the attention and gifts, and if it weren’t for me at least sending him a “happy birthday ❤️” text every year to fill the radio silence every other 364 days of the year, he probably would’ve forgotten that he has a birthday at all. But today that will change.
Since Kelly is still a firefighter at house 51 and that happens to be the house i’m transferring to now that i’m back in Chicago, I decided I would surprise Kelly. It’s the least I could do since we practically haven’t spoken in almost 7 years.
One week prior, Third Person POV:
“In exactly one week we will have a female transfer on squad 3. She’s been in California for the last year in the wildfire division of L.A. You guys will welcome her with open arms accepting her back into the 51 family. It’s been a rough year, wildfires are very different from the typical structure fires we see almost everyday. You will be patient, and understanding, and treat her with never ending respect. The only reason she isn’t a superior officer to the lot of you is because she declined the offer…That’s all. You’re dismissed.” After Boden makes his announcement almost the whole house is confused due to the nuclear bomb he basically just dropped on them.
“Um what?” Otis says out probably the most confused of them all.
“A female on Squad 3? Who is she the she-hulk?” Cruz adds on with a joke no one laughed at.
“Do you have a problem with that Cruz?” Boden asks furious at his blatant sexism.
“No sir.” He says in response and sits lower in his chair.
“I’m just confused that we don’t even know who this chick’s name and she gets to waltz in here like she owns the place. How does Severide feel about this?” Someone from the back asks with each word just pissing Boden off even more.
“For your information, she worked at house 51 for 7 years as the PIC then transferred to house 90 to become a working firefighter. After two years of working on Truck, she quickly became Lieutenant, then after three years she was offered a position in California. So yes, she does get to ‘waltz in here and act like she owns the place’. Now for your information her name is Y/N Darden and I don’t give a damn how Severide feels because it’s my goddamn house and what I say goes!” Boden says with complete rage which shut the rest of them up.
After what felt like an eternity of awkward silence Casey spoke up, “She’s family Chief and we’ll treat her as such, we won’t let you down.” He says half serious to scare the rest of the men and women in the room, and half excited because he gets to see you again. Luckily for your surprise to work out, Severide wasn’t on shift that day.
Present Day, Third Person POV:
You stood nervously outside the conference room awaiting your grand entrance to surprise Kelly. As the seconds count down to break the six year technical no contact with Severide, the nauseous feeling in your stomach continues to rise. God you’ve missed him.
“Now please welcome your new Squad 3 member…” You hear Boden’s prominent voice say as he approaches the door to open it for you, “Y/N Darden.” He finishes as you walk through the door and immediately all of the old faces that you’ve missed from your past become familiar again. You can only spot a few new faces, but before you fully process that your eyes land on Kelly’s in the back.
You watch as his face morphs from complete shock and excitement to anger and disappointment. Before you get a chance to say anything though he speaks up.
“What the hell is she doing here!?” He shouts at Boden which immediately pisses him off.
“Severide, calm down! You can either welcome your new team member as her lieutenant professionally, or you can walk out and talk to me privately in my office. We’re not causing a scene in front of my men and women right now.” He says patiently like he’s talking to a toddler throwing a tantrum.
“You know…this is bullshit! Hell no!” Severide shouts once again with all eyes in the room on him he waits a few seconds before he approaches you.
“You need to leave.” Is all he says as he walks out the conference room doors and you’re now standing there in the front of the room embarrassed as ever. Your face would be emotionless if there wasn’t tears falling down it so you quickly wipe them and mutter something along the lines of “this was a mistake” as you rush out of the room.
Boden stands there angry and everyone else doesn’t know what to do. Before anyone does anything though, Casey quickly goes to follow you and tells Boden he’ll handle it.
“Um…as for the rest of you, you’re dismissed.” He says walking out slowly while rubbing his jaw. This was going to be a long day.
“Hey Y/N, wait up!” Casey yells as he runs after you, you stop dead in your tracks at his voice and you turn around now showing your red and puffy face.
“Hey c’mere.” He says as he pulls you into a hug causing you cry a little harder, “Hey, shh, the birthday girl shouldn’t be crying on her special day, okay?” He says as he pulls you away from his chest and wipes your tears himself.
Surprised he remembered your birthday, your hands rest on his biceps as he does so and you sniffle and chuckle as he still treats you like a little sister. God you’ve missed him. And everyone here for that matter.
A little while later Casey brought you to his office so you guys could have a safe place to talk and not be overheard by the others. “I don’t know why I thought he would be happy to see me…” You say as you sip some hot cocoa. It was your favorite winter beverage and since it was your birthday he made you a cup of his famous recipe. Matt always made the best cocoa.
“I wouldn’t worry too much about it. He’ll come around, it’s a tough day and seeing you unexpectedly probably added onto that. Not saying that you’re the cause but just the reminder you know?” Matt says leaning back in his desk chair and tapping his pen on the top of his desk you give him an unsure smile showing you understand what he said.
5 hours into your first shift back at 51 it has definitely not gone the way you were expecting. From the blow up this morning and a winter weather advisory deeming it unsafe for you guys to attend to non life threatening emergent calls you guys were stuck at the house. Not that there was a lot to do, it’s just despite being locked in a building with Kelly, you have no idea where he’s gone.
Sitting around the table in the common room you were telling stories about some wildfire calls in California catching up with the others.
“So there I was dangling out the side of the Helicopter hanging on with one hand over about 30 acres of straight fire, I had barely any grip but my chief advising that call had figured out how to stabilize the helicopter with resources around him so he could get 30 free seconds to help me back in. It was probably the most scary and exhilarating feeling of my whole existence-“ You say but trailing off as someone caught your attention out of the corner of your eye you finally see Kelly.
“Wow! That’s actually insane Y/N i’m glad you’re okay-“ Otis said a little too intrigued in ur story, but you cut him off as you get up to talk to Severide. “Sorry excuse me Otto, I’ll be right back.” You say running off towards Kelly.
“Yeah Otto, she’ll be right back!” Cruz says dying laughing at you not knowing his name.
“There is no way she doesn’t know who I am or my name! We worked together for four years, I mean yeah I was only a candidate but still!” He says genuinely hurt you don’t fully know who he is when he’s had a giant crush on you for years now.
“Hey Kelly wait up!” You shout following him to his office.
“Go away.” Is all he says before shutting the door in your face.
“No! Please can you just hear me out?”
“Go away Y/N!” He yells again but this time louder with his voice cracking.
“Let me in Kelly. Please.” You finally beg rattling the now locked door handle.
Ignoring you he shuts his blinds which only causes you to be more stubborn. Sitting outside of his not-so-soundproof office you start annoyingly knocking on his glass door.
After about 3 minutes of this he opens the door. “You have 5 minutes.” He says surprising you so you jump to your feet and follow him inside.
You sit on his bed and don’t exactly know where to start your explanation so the two of you just sit in awkward tension for about 30 seconds of your 5 minutes.
“I meant it Y/N you only have 5 minutes. Start talking.” he says breaking the silence and starting a real timer at which you roll your eyes.
“Happy birthday.” You mutter watching his eyes go wide.
“What!? You said start talking so I did. I’m paying my respects to my lieutenant!” You raise your voice a bit at his aggression defending your actions.
Still met with silence you sigh and begin explaining, “I only had a year contract in California. I was always planning on coming back to Chicago.” You first admit trying to clear the air unsure if he was mad that you went there, or for any other reason.
“I’m sorry if this was a mistake, I just thought it would be nice to see you again.” You admit starting to feel guilty.
“You know what would’ve been nice? A goodbye. A notice. Even a text just saying, ‘Hey I’m going to California for the next year, see you when I get back!’ Or maybe before that a goodbye saying you’re leaving 51 and transferring to 90, that would’ve been nice. Not just showing up to work a week after your best friend died and finding out the only tie you still had to him left too!” He shouts at you almost triggering your waterworks again, but you can see he definitely triggered some of his own.
“You know what Kelly, I get that, and i’m sorry!” You shout back but taking a deep breath before continuing. “I’m sorry I didn’t say goodbye, you didn’t deserve that. I’m sorry your bestfriend died. You didn’t deserve that, but I want you to know, my fucking brother died! and I didn’t deserve that! I’m sorry you were just another reminder of what I didn’t have and I couldn’t even think about you without wanting to throw up! You know you two were so similar? Basically the exact same person, but when he died, that part of you died too. He died in all of us, so it’s not like I just lost him! I lost both of you and it broke my fucking heart. I love you Kelly, I truly do, but please don’t blame me when I had to take the measures to fix me before I could be there for you. You weren’t-aren’t the same person you were before and neither am I! But I’m back now, ready to start again, and be there for you if you need me, if you are too.” You finally finish your rant and see the tears falling down Kelly’s face as yours once did only a few hours ago. He sniffles a little bit leaving you on heard so you get up to leave but he grabs your hand and points for you to sit back down.
“I won’t stay if you don’t want me too. I can leave at the end of shift and go back to 90 just say the word that you don’t want me on your squad.”
“I don’t want you to leave, Y/N. But I can’t be responsible if you end up dying too…” Kelly finally breaks down after getting the last sentence out and you stand up pulling him into a hug.
Pulling him away from you and cradling his face in your hands you wipe his tears just as Matt did for you earlier and you say, “Kelly, I won’t die. and if I do it won’t be your fault, just like Andy’s death wasn’t your fault either. It wasn’t anyone’s, it was his stupid mistake for not listening to a confirmed order before going in. I know it’s bad of me to blame the dead for his death, but it’s true and he can cry about it from his grave if he has an issue.” You chuckle at the last sentence as does Kelly and you both smile.
“You’re just gonna have to trust me Severide, okay?”
“Okay.” He whispers back and places a kiss to your forehead then resting his forehead of yours. God it was nice to have your brother back.
At the end of shift Kelly brings you to Molly’s where Herrmann had set up a surprise party for the both of you. It was a good night. After a few drinks and being separated from Severide he finally comes and talks to you again.
“Hey there’s the birthday boy!” You greet Kelly with a hug and kiss on the cheek.
“Hey, um, Otis just told me earlier on shift you called him Otto?” He says dying laughing.
“Yeah and?” You say genuinely confused?
“That’s not his name! It’s Otis!?” Kelly continues laughing at how you could’ve screwed that up and your jaw drops.
“You’re kidding!” You say feeling horrible now.
“No i’m not! You worked with that kid for four years before you transferred how did you fuck it up that bad!” Kelly exclaims as the both of you are dying laughing.
“Omg, I feel so bad! Do you think he’d forgive me?” You say looking around searching for where he was only to find him already staring at you.
Kelly looks in his direction then looks at you and nods his head yes. “Something tells me he’d forgive you.” he says knowing about his love struck elevator guy.

Yay thank you so much I’ve been binge reading Otis content but there’s not a lot compared to others and I need more❤️❤️.
Otis x fem (paramedic) reader
I was thinking Otis has a crush on her and he thinks maybe she actually might have a crush on him too but when a secret accidentally comes out that she had a brief fling with Kelly (perhaps someone caught them at the firehouse once) he automatically assumes there’s no way in hell then that she likes him and that she was flirting with him not because she likes him and wants a potential relationship but because she’s just naturally a flirtatious person. He freezes her out and she decides to make a grand romantic gesture at the firehouse in front of everyone to prove him wrong and get the man of her dreams🥰.
Drone - Brian 'Otis' Zvonecek
Summary: Otis misunderstands a conversation that you have with Capp and thinks that you have something going on with Severide.
A/N: Sorry this took so long to write! I love Otis so much he's literally perfect.
One Chicago Masterlist
✰ ✰ ✰ ✰
“You remember!” Capp practically shouted and you cringed, already well aware of the eyes on you. The conversation had started innocently enough (if you could really call it that) when Capp had brought up the topic of firehouse romances. As if any of the guys sitting around the long table, shifting uncomfortably under his gaze, wanted to talk about their exploits.
You shook your head. You definitely didn’t want to talk about your exploits. That was asking for trouble. You’d worked hard to get where you were and you’d been lucky enough to wind up at 51 after a less than pleasant candidacy at 66. There was no way you needed Capp, of all people, airing your dirty laundry. “No.”
“Come on,” Capp drawled, “you’ve gotta remember. Not like it was a long time ago.” He replied, leaning further into the table, closer to you.
At the coffee maker behind you, Cruz and Otis were practically burning a hole in the back of your head trying to find out what Capp knew about you and some mystery firefighter. You were honestly praying that the alarm would go off. Did no one in Chicago have a fire they needed you to fight off?
“No,” you drew the word out as you thought of the best way to respond, “besides…how did you even hear about it?” As far as you knew, the only person who knew that you’d been (technically) sleeping with your instructor during the academy was said instructor (who technically only taught one course) and yourself.
“Severide told me.”
“What did I tell you?” Kelly’s voice rung out in the common area and you looked over toward the main entrance. He was just rolling in for shift and still had his bag on him though he was already in uniform.
“We were talking about dating in the firehouse,” Cruz started to explain. You didn’t dare look back as he trailed off, knowing that if he was working out the connection than Otis definitely was working it out.
It wasn’t anything official, or unofficial for that matter, but there was definitely something there between you and Otis. Well, you hoped there was something there and you weren’t reading too much into it. You’d been hanging around Molly’s on nights off to see him, sometimes (most times) staying until closing just so the two of you could talk. You liked all the same shows and usually if one of you was stuck pulling the night shift the other would stay up too and watch something. He was just as insufferable watching tv as you were, talking the whole time and yelling at characters like they could hear you. Whatever it all boiled down to, you definitely wouldn’t define your feelings as platonic. But you’d been taking the whole thing slowly. It wasn’t just that he was hot and you wanted to sleep with him (although, he was hot and you did really, really, wanna sleep with him). You wanted a real relationship with him, or at least a shot at one. Which was now dwindling as Cruz opened his mouth to finish the thought that had shut him up the first time.
“You two?” He looked between you and Severide and if you could’ve burned a hole in Kelly’s head with how hard you were glaring you were sure all the fire alarms in the house would be going off.
Kelly scratched the back of his and feigned nonchalance. Or maybe he really didn’t care who knew, “it wasn’t anything…uh,” he looked over at you, practically begging for you to confirm that the brief relationship meant nothing.
“It wasn’t anything serious,” you finished. You felt your whole face warm and clocked Otis’ retreating form from the corner of your eye. His Big Hug mug sat abandoned next to the coffeemaker and the side door that lead to the bunk room was swinging shut.
As Capp piped up again, your eyes met Cruz’s and you sighed. You knew Otis and you knew exactly what was going through his head right now. Leaving your own coffee on the counter, you headed out of the common area and passed Kelly to the locker room. He waited half a second before backing out of the room and following after you. Otis being upset was something you definitely had to deal with, you owed him an explanation and some honesty, but right now you wanted to talk to Kelly. Not because you had any lingering feelings for him or thought he might have any for you but because you were friends.
“What the hell Kelly? You told Capp we slept together?” You whispered, smacking his arm as he opened his locker.
“Hey, whoa, it was not like that.” He insisted. “I mentioned it to Casey-“
“Oh my god, Casey knows?” You huffed, “why not just hang a fucking banner?”
“Would you calm down.”
“Kelly. Casey’s my lieutenant…I don’t want him thinking I got any breaks.” You replied.
“Nobody thinks that.” He said it as if he was positive and you almost believed him.
“Who else knows?”
“Now?” He asked and you dropped onto the bench, covering your face with your hands. “Hey; come on, no one is gonna think of you any differently. We were both in completely different places in our lives.”
“Brian will.” You muttered, the words obscured by your hands.
Severide raised an eyebrow, waiting for you to repeat yourself. When you didn’t, he asked what you’d said.
“I said, Brian will.” You replied, lifting your head to look at him. “I really like him and we’ve been kinda, spending time together. I mean, nothings happened but I definitely want it to and now…oh god.”
“Otis’ll come around.”
You wanted to hope that Severide was right but despite having been roommates with Otis at one point, you knew that the two of them had never really been close friends. Any advice that Severide gave wasn’t really applicable. You knew you could ask Cruz but he’d probably just tell you to talk to him and you doubted Otis would be in the talking mood right now.
“Yeah thanks.”
You weren’t entirely sure how long you were supposed to wait for Otis to “come around”. It’d been almost a week and things between the two of you were still rocky. You knew you shouldn’t have taken Severide’s advice. As much as you loved him (platonically) he have notoriously bad advice and you were all too aware of that. Still you’d sat on your hands as if Otis would be the type of person to sense a misunderstanding and do something about it instead of just wallowing in self-pity.
Cruz had mentioned putting in a good word for you, the extent of which had simply been him reminding Otis that the two of you almost kissed at Molly’s the night before Capp’s over share (a fact that you didn’t know Cruz knew until he told you).
“Does everyone around here tell everyone everything? Are there no secrets?” You had grumbled as you laced your shoes and Cruz looked guiltily around the lockers (apparently talking to you was off limits because they were roommates or bros or whatever Cruz said) as if Otis would pop out from a corner.
“Just trying to help,” Cruz justified, raising his hands in surrender.
“I know,” you sighed. “I just, ugh…if we were dating I totally would’ve told him. I mean I was gonna tell him once I figured out where this was going. It’s not like I wanted to keep it a secret secret forever, I just…it wasn’t anyone’s business but mine and Kelly’s. And I don’t even like Kelly! I mean, yeah, I love him, he’s a great friend…he’s an okay, working on himself, friend, but I don’t wanna like…I’m not interested in him the way I’m interested in Brian. I’m not interested in Severide at all.”
Cruz looked almost apologetic as he stared at you, unsure what to say. Herrmann had given you the questionable (but possibly decent) advice of a ‘grand gesture’. Something to really solidified the fact that you were into Otis (“what’s that you’re always saying? Kid’s like a newborn baby, you gotta spell that out for him nice and clear.”) and wanted him to know it.
If he could’ve given any better advice he would have but the honest truth was that he agreed with Herrmann. Cruz knew Otis better than most, he’d tried talking to him at the firehouse after you’d left the common area and then again when they got home but Otis was stubborn and his ego was bruised.
“If you just talk to them, it’s a misunderstanding Otis-“ He’d tried to get Sylvie on his side, and she’d chimed in with a half-hearted agreement but ever since she’d started seeing Antonio she was practically useless as far as keeping her attention went. And left to fend for himself, Cruz was having a shitty time convincing his best friend that this wasn’t what he was making it out to be.
“It all makes sense now,” Otis had been bitching the entire elevator ride up and he didn’t stop now to listen to Cruz, “I mean, the inside jokes, the rides home together, god they’ve probably been together this whole time!”
“That doesn’t even make sense Otis, Severide was dating that paralegal two weeks ago. Besides, they’re the only person in the whole firehouse that calls you Brian.”
“That’s my name.”
“Yeah but day one, you said your name was Brian when Mouch called you Otis and they said ‘what do you prefer’ and you said Brian and they haven’t called you Otis a single day since.” Cruz tried to point out, “that’s not nothing.”
“It’s barely something.”
Talking to Otis was like talking to a brick wall, nothing he said was going to get through to him. The only real glimmer of hope Cruz had was that maybe something you said would right this whole situation. If you could just talk to him or something. Anything. Hang a banner from the roof of 51, post it up on the message board so everyone could see, announce it over loud speaker throughout the house. Whatever it took to convince Otis that you had feelings for him. Cause Cruz could tell you did (not that you were ever shy about it)  and he sure as hell knew Otis felt the exact same way.
“I don’t think Otis is gonna believe that until you’re standing in front of his face telling him that. And even then…doubtful. I think Herrmann might be right.” Cruz admitted, bringing himself back to the present.
“Me too.” You sat there for a moment, the sound of the bells going off catching both of your attentions. “Do you still have that drone?” You asked as you got to your feet, following Cruz out of the locker room.
“Yeah why?”
“I think I have an idea.”
Once you were back at the firehouse, jacket hung up and the soot from the last call wiped off your face (who makes a love confession looking like they just rolled around in a fireplace) you got to work. It didn’t take much, truthfully. Mainly because you’d had so little time to actually plan and execute the idea but also because you were more concerned with what you wanted to say and less how you were going to say it.
Of course, it would’ve gone better if Otis had actually done what the drone requested. You’d taken a crash course in flying the robotic devil from Cruz when you got back to the house, swearing that you would not break it lest Otis never forgive you. It was simple, all it had to do was fly out to the apparatus where Otis was, drop a note for him and then he followed the note, went to the bunk room, and you talked.
You had played the whole thing out in your head a million times between the locker room and the bunks. Thought of everything you wanted to say to him and what you hoped he would say back. Fingers crossed you managed to get through the entire thing without the bells going off. Or at least most. Or at least any. Because you did all the steps you set out to but Otis never showed. You waited and waited and then the bells rang for ambo and you realized you’d been standing around in the bunk room like a moron for half an hour.
“This is fucking stupid.” You muttered, giving up your perfectly planned speech about your feelings and stomping into the common area, more annoyed than anything.
Otis was right there, of course, leaning against the counter and talking to Mouch like nothing had transpired. Like you weren’t waiting for him.
“Brian Zvonecek, I swear to god I will murder you where you stand!” You snapped, the room going silent as you walked up to him.
“I-“
“Don’t even try it,” you were quick to cut him off, “I have literally been trying to apologize to you for a week, more than that even! Yeah, okay, I slept with Kelly before you even knew me. What kind of asshole just writes off an entire relationship because of something so unbelievably minor.”
When he opened his mouth to say something you blazed on.
“I’m not finished. I have been here almost two years and in those two years I have not dated, slept with, flirted with, or even thought about anyone. It was you from the moment I walked in those doors and it’s been you every day since. And I have played a long fucking game waiting for you to get that and since clearly you refuse to acknowledge that I’m literally in love with you, I just-“ you almost felt yourself losing your nerve, unsure where you wanted this speech to end or even where it was headed so you cut yourself off and kissed him. Right there in front of pretty much the entire firehouse.
Capp’s near deafening cheer caught your attention and you pulled yourself away (literally feeling like you had to pry yourself away from him because holy shit, kissing him was a terrible idea; now you didn’t want to stop).
When you dared to look, Otis’ face was beet red all the way to his ears. The grip on his mug relaxed, knuckles having gone white when from holding the handle so tightly when you kissed him. He felt like he was floating or like his head had been cleared of any useless information so that all he could focus on was you. You and the way you were glaring at Capp and suddenly Otis felt like he was remembering everyone else was in the room. Mug down, he grabbed your hand and pulled you out of the common area (the sound of everyone’s catcalls lingering as the door swung shut) and back into the bunk room.
“This looks familiar,” you teased and he huffed out a laugh, feeling a twinge of guilt for not just doing what the note you’d left on the drone had said.
“I thought you were gonna tell me, I don’t know, that you still had feelings for Severide. And I mean, I would’ve understood, it’s Severide. But I just, I didn’t wanna hear that.” Otis admitted, taking a seat on the side of his bunk.
“Brian,” your tone was softer now than it had been in the common area, less upset that he hadn’t shown and more apologetic that he thought showing up would mean being let down. You stepped between his legs, shins hitting the bed frame, and took his face in your hands so he was looking up at you, “I don’t have feelings for Kelly and I never did. It was a stupid hook-up while I was in the academy and it ended before I even got to 66. I didn’t say anything to you about it because I wanted to see where we went. And I didn’t want you to think that this was insincere. I meant what I said out there…I was pissed at you but I meant it…I’m literally so in love with you-“
“I know the feeling,” Otis replied turning his head just enough to kiss your palm. You loved Otis when he was soft and when he was anxious and when he was unsure but especially, you loved this piece of him, when he knew how he felt and he wasn’t afraid of saying so. When there was no threat to his heart or his ego and he could just be confident in himself. You saw it often and you relished it every time. “I know the feeling,” he repeated, “cause I love you too. So much.”
The bells went off and you stepped back as Otis stood up. He pursed his lips, looked ready to say something (or maybe throw something at the sound box on the wall) but instead he grabbed your wrist and leaned forward to kiss you. It was faster and less romantic than you would’ve liked but the fact that there was a fire somewhere in Chicago that you had to get to took precedent to anything else.
“When we get back,” Otis promised when you got out to the apparatus floor.

——————————————————————————
“You look happier.” You confessed, walking up to Kelly before taking a seat next to him at the bar. You knew that the music playing in the background was not loud enough to hide the sadness in your voice. He knew you like the back of his own hand, so you couldn't help but feel a little ashamed by the comment you just made.
"That's because I am." He flashed you a half smile. "I am happier." You couldn't say it didn't hurt you a bit when he confirmed that. You met his smile and stared at him for a while, rearranging the thoughts in your head. You wished it was you. You wished you were the girl that just walked out of the aisle with her arm looped around Kelly's.
"I'm happy for you. Really, I am." You nodded your head, gently squeezing his arm. "I am sorry that things didn't work out between us. But…seeing you here with that big smile on your face made my heart fill with joy. I always wanted you to be happy, Kelly. Even if that means I have to see you getting married to someone else."
Kelly stared at you for a while, not knowing what to say. He could see you were telling him the truth, you really were happy for him, but the look in your eyes told him something else. He could see right through you. You were hurting.
“I heard you’re leaving 51.” He changed the subject, taking a sip from his drink as he looked away. Deep down there was this odd feeling as if he was suddenly doubting the decision he made just an hour ago. He felt that if he kept looking into your eyes for too long he might regret getting married to the person that could've been you. Sometimes he looks at you and asks himself where did it all go wrong.
“Yeah, I'm leaving 51.” You quickly nodded your head, whipping off the tears that were forming in your eyes. “I need a fresh start, you know? I think spending some time away from Chicago might do some good.”
“Away from Chicago or away from me?” Kelly mumbled, his question felt more like a statement. Before you could answer, he shook his head and flashed you a smile. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have said that. I think you should do whatever makes you feel better. If staying away from Chicago for a while is the solution, then go for it. I’ll be here for you when you come back.” He gently squeezed your shoulder as his own eyes started to water.
You nodded your head and pressed your lips together, holding back a sob. There was no point in holding back the tears, they were already running down your face as you quietly stood up and grabbed your purse.
Looking back at the party, you saw all of your friends smiling and having fun. Herrmann saw you standing there and quickly made his way toward you, noticing the fresh tears in your eyes. Without saying a word, he grabbed you by the hand and dragged you to the center of the room where all of your friends were drinking and dancing. Everyone from 51 was there, having the time of their life. They would hate you for not saying goodbye.

It was another one of those dreadful days, the days you didnt want to exist anymore, you didnt want to convince yourself to get out of bed. However, when you are a firefighter you cant have those days. You pushed yourself out of bed and got dressed, taking a deep breath in and letting it out as you walked out of your front door.
You walked through the garage doors seeing the rest of squad sitting at the table already. You sat down with them and leaned back in your chair staring at the ground. This caught Kelly’s attention though so he tapped you on the knee which dragged you out of your thoughts.
“You okay Ru?” He asked, concern very aparent in his voice. This got the other guys attentions. “Uh yeah fine, why?” “You look sick, like you havent slept or eaten in a few days.” “Oh, I dont know. Ive been fine just didnt want to get out of bed this morning thats all. No need to worry about me Lieutenant,” I told him before getting up from my chair. I patted his shoulder as I walked by; I made my way to the bathroom and looked at myself in the mirror wishing I could be like Kelly, like Matt, like Herrmann, I just wanted to be a boy.
I grabbed a bag from my locker before going into one of the showers. I took off my shirt and redid the wraps on my chest, I took the binder out of my bag and pulled it on as well. I pulled back on my shirt and tucked it in, I put my bag up and walked into the common area.
I was about to sit down when the alarm went off, we rushed to the trucks pulling up our gear and getting inside. “Are you sure youre okay Ru?” “Yes i promise.”
———————————————————————
I made lunch for everyone once we were back at district. We had been on a few jobs already and I knew everyone was hungry and luckily they enjoyed my cooking. The smell of food made my stomach churn, which sent me to the bathroom to puke.
“Now I know you arent okay, tell me whats up. Its my job to know how my teams doing and obviously im not doing a good one.” I heard Kellys voice enter the room which made me upset even more. Why couldnt he just leave me alone. I just wanted to go home and cry but he just wanted to see me break down in front of him didnt he?
I sat on the stall ground so I didnt have to open the door. “Ill never be a real guy Kelly, ill never get to be like you or matt or herrmann or cap or any guy for that matter. Medically im seen as a woman physically im a woman but only mentally do i get to be a boy. Its not fair. I wish i wasnt here anymore Kel. I havent eaten in a week, ive barley got a wink of sleep. I cant keep going but i have a job i have to save people so i still come every day even if i want to put a bullet in my head. I dont because i know ill hurt people but why do i have to hurt so others wont?”
I could see his shadow come closer before he sat down on the outside of the stall. “I know the whats the word?“ I let out a light laugh before resting my head on the door, “Dysphoria.“ “Yes that, it’s hard you’ve come to me about it a few times now. Well I’ve always pried it out of you but you don’t have to do anything alone. You are a real guy, you are a boy. That was done and said once we met you. Now, once shift is done we will get through the rest of the day together. We can invite your brother too.“
“Ill see if Adam’s free...uh thank you Kelly.“ “Oh course Ru, always. You know that.”
I was about to respond but the alarm blared and I quickly wiped my face and opened the door. Kelly’s face met mine and I let out a small breath and smiled, “Lets go Lieutenant.” I pushed past him lightly and quickly got to truck; Kelly not far behind me.
———————————————————————
Like Kelly said we were leaving work together, he drove me to my apartment and I honestly never imagined he’d be in my apartment. Normally when he helps me we go to his apartment so we arent alone and its not awkward. I heard nothing but his feet following behind me as we got to my apartment I unlocked the door and plopped down on my couch. I heard the door close and lock before Kelly flicked on the kitchen lights. “Can we invite Shay and Dawson over too? Please?” “Yeah of course, ill text shay and you text dawson.” “Great. Adam isnt free tonight, there on a case so i thought we could invite them.”
Shay came over almost instantly, she had alcohol like always; Dawson following a few steps behind her. I closed the door behing them locking it and sitting down on the couch next to Dawson. Dawson was my best friend, besides Kelly of course. I met Dawson when we were young, she was always my favorite person; now I get to see her every day, this jobs wearing on it a bit though.
She was there through my whole transition and now Kelly is here for the after thoughts and major dysphoria because you still arent in the right body. Your parts werent correct and you knew you would never be able to like it because no matter what you did you wouldnt have the real thing.
I was ripped from my thoughts from Dawson placing her hand on my hand; I looked up and she was still in a conversation with Shay and Kelly. I smiled softly and laid my head on the back of the couch calming down; the thoughts stropped rolling in and I just got to happily listen to my friends having a break.
Once Shay and Gabby left I thanked Kelly once again for wanting to help me get through today. He stood on the other side of the door but everything happened so quickly I felt his lips press to mine. “Im sorry,” he said straightening back up. “Kelly isnt into only women i see?“ “I do know i like you, so yeah I guess I dont only like women.”
“See you tomorrow Ru?” “Or how about.”
I cut off my sentence but pulling him into another kiss and he stepped inside closing the door behind him.

Hey! How's it going? So you replied to my comment on Call It Love saying that it was one of your favorites and I'm jw what other Jay (or Kelly) stories of yours you'd say are your favorites? I'm slowly trying to go through your masterlist. Idk why it took me so long to come across your stuff.
Heyyy! Thank you for reading my stuff, I truly appreciate it so much. 😊
I think I'd say for my Jay stories, my top 3 are:
Soccer Practice |  Halstead!Sibling | Jay picks up his sister after soccer practice, but things don’t go as planned.
Dead and Waiting | 18+ | Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8, Part 9 (FINAL PART), EPILOGUE | Jay Halstead x Reader | Reader gets caught up in an undercover case, and she's forced into faking her death.
Heartbreaker | Jay Halstead x Reader | Reader joins Intelligence and has a reputation for breaking hearts. The reader tries to warn Jay that
And for Kelly I'd pick:
Hostage Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4 | Kelly Severide x Reader | Y/N is a Firefighter at Firehouse 51, they get taken hostage inside the Firehouse with Casey’s niece, Violet.
The Academy | Kelly Severide x Platonic!Reader | Y/N and Firehouse 51 respond to a call at the CFD’s Fire Academy. It’s a bad day, with good friends to see you through.
Believe Me | Severide!Sister | Kelly has a new girlfriend, it doesn't go well for the reader.
Happy reading, and thank you again, darling! 😘
