In defense of season five Brian Kinney

(this has been in my drafts for months because i'm scared to post it sjkfhs)

We all feel a certain kind of way about season five, it's like... kind of unfortunate from beginning to end lmao. BUT STILL the one thing that I will always do is try to defend that babygirl, I will carry him out of the storm of criticism princess style and take him home on a white horse.

disclaimer: this is a confused stream of consciousness and I will get some things wrong because it's the season I've watched the least lol.

Why does Brian act the way he does? We know why he acts a certain way throughout the series and to me his behaviour in s5 is not that unwarranted or different from the other seasons.

1) At the end of season 4 he asks Justin to move in, he talks about wanting to spend more time with Gus, but does any of it happen? no.

Justin leaves and Brian is happy and proud of him, but honestly I would also see why that would make him feel a certain kind of way. He already thinks he doesn't deserve love and companionship and one of the few times he asks for it he doesn't get it. He prepares a trip to go see Justin, but at the last second he decides not to go, he gets cold feet because it sound like Justin is leaving him forever. Sort of, kind of, but it's enough. The same happens with Gus (imo). Like he's accepted that with time all his relationships will end and no one actually wants him to fight for them, because no one actually likes him enough to want to stick around. But do you know who will always stay by his side? Michael. Until...

2) Confession... I don't hate the assimilation plotline. It was handled horribly, but I still think it's pretty cool they dedicated so much time to it. They were doing this in the early 2000s and now most lgbtq+ media can't handle to seriously get anywhere close to it.

Brian and Michael's roles are on the opposite spectrum of the debate and Justin ping pongs between them way too pointedly, because (imo) the writers decided to use him as a plot device instead of a character. (Unironically to me Justin feels the most like Justin when he is being a dick to his mom about her boyfriend) (and even then I find myself questioning whether s4 Justin would do or say any of that)

ANYWAY Brian sees his best friend/brother travel where he can't follow him. Michael has a family, he is married, he has a house in the suburbs, new, more mature friends and Brian is looking at him from afar, wondering why he suddenly thinks the life they've shared is a meaningless, shameful thing of the past. Not directly, but in a way wondering why Michael can't just accept him the way he is anymore.

BTW Brian might have celebrated the wedding of his friends... but that doesn't mean he changed his mind on weddings as a whole. Actually his wildest marriage nightmares are proven right by the two married couples he knows. He probably looks at Mel and Lindsay destroying each other, stuck in a legal battle with Michael /and/ Ben, looks at the kids trapped in that mess and is glad that will never be him.

UNTIL IT IS. Justin, in his infinite wisdom, decides he wants all of that actually and he tries to "tame" (quoting Cowlip) Brian until he leaves him behind because the domestication isn't sticking and him alone is not worth as much as weddings and kids. There's supposed to be something MORE. Staying with Brian suddenly means settling for something lesser than what Michael has. This process starts way before the break up (talks of... puppies?) and it's there where (imo) Brian just breaks.

No Michael, no Justin, constant talk of marriage and kids and divorce and custody. No one fucking cares Brian has a reason to behave the way he does. It's normal to want different things in life, but no one in the cast has experienced what Brian has and no one tries to understand it and understand what he wants and why either.

Brian's entire existence in the series is being questioned: his worth, what he has to offer, what he can't/won't give as well as what he can/will give, what HE IS, everything amounts to literally nothing. he is being left by everyone, he's wrong and not enough. Meanwhile he hates being alone, he's needy and touch starved and sweet, he needs his special people around, but why would he ask them to stay, when they make it so clear that they think he is not worth anything? (he's left with literally only Lindsay who is so bad at keeping her mouth shut and just offering support and Ted who's mostly just thinking about his own dick 24/7 and is more of a distraction than anything else).

The only gateway to attention and affection he has left is sex except that isn't working as well anymore.

[2.2) (little aside about Justin) To me he is a bit like a moth flying into bright, shiny things. He's still stubborn and driven, but in season five his decisions feel shallow, like he's doing things out of boredom. At the start of the season he's coming back from hollywood, where he was happily living in kinney-like debauchery, and he's disappointed to be back to his old life. So (imo) he finds a new thing to obsess over: marriage. Then he gets to go to new york and weddings, kids and manors are suddenly a thing of the past. This is why to me, in season 5 he's just a big nothing of nothing, genetically modified to accompany the brian/michael assimilation plot line and then Brian's ending.]

3) Confession n 2 I don't hate Brandon and even though the competition is SO cringe, it's meant to be that way (i hope at least), to me the way it ends is what makes it clear. We get a glimpse of season one Brian, broken and lost, terrified, hanging onto the one thing that makes him feel wanted, safe and alive (sex). He wins, but the ending to the competition is not satisfying, Brian doesn't claim his prize (he doesn't want it). We get an unsettling, super close close up on Brian and Brandon instead, the lines are not good, but the visual storytelling carries that scene effortlessly. Past and present looking at each other, the future looming over them right out of frame where none of us can see it.

Aging is a main theme throughout the story and to me it feels very fitting to ham it up towards the ending. Justin spitefully telling him he looks good after sighing and moping around for entire episodes can't fix Brian's lifelong obsession with the loss of his youth. Brian is left to deal with it on his own when it's at its worst. He is old and lonely, Brandon and the competition is an escape, one last glimpse at what it's like to be the young, hot, reigning stud of Liberty Avenue, while being fully aware that his time is up.

In conclusion, Brian has not taken steps back imo, he is struggling to come to terms with the changes around him, while also feeling confident about his own convictions. Sometimes he is bitter and lonely and we get to see him say extreme things, but he's also more well adjusted than he was in season 1. He knows what he wants but he's still scared to admit it. Partly because (and the failure with the moving in thing could be a factor in this) he doesn't think he should ask for anything, partly because the people he loves are expecting him to change even more and against his will.

A the same time, he is able to question himself because he has grown and worked through some of the trauma that shaped him, also he has found a new kind of intense love with Justin, different from the codependency he has with Michael (and Lindsay) and the surface level friendship he has with everyone else, which is something that has made him realise so much about himself and what he wants and would like to be.

For the same reasons he is able to look at his empire crumbling and accept it, because during the show he found other reasons to fight and stay alive. When those same reasons are taken away from him, or he doesn't find the courage to go after them, he tries to comfort himself through sex, even if it's unsuccessful, but he's not closing into himself like he used to. He still thinks he'll get Michael back eventually and he's happy to let Justin go if it means he'll find what he is looking for, Brian doesn't want another relationship he doesn't care for it, the only reason Justin became his boyfriend is because he forced his way into his life and his heart ugh cringe lol. Obsessing over sex, age and fighting with his loved ones is not necessarily a sign of regression, just a momentary way to cope with the world pulling the rug from under his feet.

He went from attempting suicide to celebrating being cancer free. He wants the people who make him happy to be happy, even if it hurts him. He's not possessive and he's not particularly brave when it comes to relationships, but he's also growing constantly, willing and unwilling he changes and moves forward in his own way, sometime turning to look at the past but with no excuses, no apologies, no regr[GUNSHOT]

Then episode 10 comes and a lot more shit happens that i could write another 20 pages about but im done for now lmao ok bye

3. Springvalley -> Royal Cedar: Blossom woods. Majestic and reliable, he has been guarding the Blossom woods and Springvalley from the storm in Winterdale. -> Everbloom Elm: Everspring plateau. Covered in various flowers, she’s very proud of them. Gives you some random herbs every day if you go say hi to her. The tree is so full of herself, she’s basically giving you an autograph, don’t worry about it. -> Sun Queen: Suncrown lake. Cleansed from corruption by MC and SRs. Protects the Von Blyssen manor and vineyard. -> Twilight Oak: Morrinweald. The source of the valas’ power. Was corrupted by dark powers, later cleansed by MC and SRs.

4. Summerplains -> Restored Guardian: The Great Clearing. Was cut down long ago. We grow it back, like the one in Forgotten Fields. -> Elder Witchwood: Old Morass. She liked to watch the rituals the witches did in the swamp. Quickly becomes best friends with Pi and Mrs Holdsworth. -> Shadow Chestnut: Claymore mountains, hidden. He was tasked with keeping an eye on the Claymores- they have been serving evil for a long time. -> Aspen King: Lone Star canyon. Yellow-golden leaves, huge tree. Likes the Lone Star Cowboys, who bring gifts (anything from horseshoes to elk skulls). 

The New Fast Travel System: -> Advantage of using the trees: you pay for the trailer rides, but you use the tree portals for free. -> With all 4 big areas unlocked, you will need to cover great distances. You have a lot of choices: 1, Trailers (costs money, but most accurate, quickest) 2, Tree portals (free, but less accurate, takes a bit of time) 3, Pandoria portal in-between shortcuts (free, jumps great distances, but least accurate). -> Trailer rides now cost more money the farther the distance you go. Prices: 25 JS:  if you travel inside a great area (e.g. staying inside Harvestlands). 50 JS: if you travel to another great area next to you (e.g. from Harvestlands to Winterdale) 75 JS: travel to another area second next to you (e.g. from Harvestlands to Springvalley) 100 JS: travel to third next area (e.g. from Harvestlands to Summerplains) -> [Keep it in mind, that by our game design the JS cap has been raised to 100.000 and you earn more money, via reworked quest rewards.]

I think the most glaring inconsistent between the “smarts” of "hermione 1" and "hermione 2" is that she doesnt work WITH Harry and Ron as a team anymore. All those outrageous things like "punishing" Rita and Marietta and with her parents, even the time traveling, she does it off screen and alone. She’s SUCH a meta power breaking all the 4th walls because Rowling didn’t know how to write a trio anymore and cant let Hermione lowered herself to work with the actual teenage boy characters. (1)

(2). I can forgive her “momentary smarts” moments because I can see how actually being with friends emboldened her. I loved Ron for yelling at her for her slowness – as of book 2 I can see her taking that to heart and try not to be robotic. Before book 3, all her “independent rule breaking” was with them, to help them and when she was THERE with them.

(3) When she set Snape on fire or did the potions, she WAS alone yes, but Ron was watching her, and the Potion thing has logical development bc she had went into the Restricted Section for Harry in Book 1, and most important thing is she failed or was petrified. NOTHING like that anymore since book 3 because even Rowling knew those things Hermione did was too big for anyone.

On "Hermione 1" and "Hermione 2"

I think in the end it really just comes down to Rowling using Hermione as a "solve everything" trump card.

She said it herself, that Hermione explaining stuff makes sense because you just assume she's read it in a book. Ok, yeah...

But doesn't it also make sense for Ron to know things because he's wizard-raised and so would know stuff without need for books?

I mean look how perfectly it happened in COS!

Then Ron pushed Harry into an armchair and said, “You’re a Parselmouth. Why didn’t you tell us?” [...] “So?” said Harry. “I bet loads of people here can do it.” “Oh, no they can’t,” said Ron. “It’s not a very common gift. Harry, this is bad.” “What’s bad?” said Harry, starting to feel quite angry. “What’s wrong with everyone? Listen, if I hadn’t told that snake not to attack Justin —” “Oh, that’s what you said to it?” “What d’you mean? You were there — you heard me —” “I heard you speaking Parseltongue,” said Ron. “Snake language. You could have been saying anything — no wonder Justin panicked, you sounded like you were egging the snake on or something — it was creepy, you know —” Harry gaped at him. “I spoke a different language? But — I didn’t realize — how can I speak a language without knowing I can speak it?” Ron shook his head. Both he and Hermione were looking as though someone had died. Ok, so why Hermione would look so stricken I dunno, maybe anxious, but I'll give it a pass because Harry Don't Know Feelings let's go with that. So Ron somewhat explains "this is bad" (but he does describe Parseltongue as "a gift", so, yknow, he wouldn't cut off someone's tongue if they spoke Parseltongue, I see you there you people who think Slytherins are "oppressed"), because in popular opinion this is bad. He explains to Harry why that looked bad, why people reacted the way they did, and what is Parseltongue.

“It matters,” said Hermione, speaking at last in a hushed voice, “because being able to talk to snakes was what Salazar Slytherin was famous for. That’s why the symbol of Slytherin House is a serpent.” Harry’s mouth fell open. “Exactly,” said Ron. “And now the whole school’s going to think you’re his great-great-greatgreat-grandson or something —” “But I’m not,” said Harry, with a panic he couldn’t quite explain. “You’ll find that hard to prove,” said Hermione. “He lived about a thousand years ago; for all we know, you could be.” - Chamber of Secrets

And all those are credible informations to garner out of a textbook! Especially from Hogwarts, A History which would probably give a bit of detail about the founders and their Houses.

And then compare and contrast with Deathly Hallows...

Ahem, heh, yeah. That's, the state of the writing in Deathly Hallows. Years of being told how awesome Hermione is for reading books and regurgitating what she read (aka a thing tons of kids do in their youth because kids are curious little buggers and love sharing their discoveries with others) really took their toll.

"Now that I think about it, I wasn't fooled by anything when me and YN started dating. I knew what I was getting into since the beginning. And I knew it was worth it. Since the beginning…

YN is always the one telling our story, but let me try it for once. I'm feeling like she's letting some embarrassing parts out, but they're important too, right? It's my turn today. Let's get it.

YN swims very well now, but when we met? Well… it was nothing like that.

"I'm so incredibly unhappy with this development." , you complained again for the 100th time.

Jungkook uncrossed his arms, looking at you with his "trusfrated" face.

"Why didn’t you tell me you can’t swim?"

"YOU NEVER ASKED!"

Your pressure went up high on the hospital dashboard, starting the bip sound.

"You let me bring you to the bigger water park in Seoul and you can't swim?"

You narrowed your eyes at him, but Jungkook couldn't hold his laughter.

"Don't laugh about my misery, Jeon. I can still drown you in the toilet.", you threaten him, but it only made him laugh harder. "And why did you bring me to the hospital? This is embarrassing", you crossed your arms the way you could, but the serum was still attached to you. Jungkook stopped laughing and sat in the chair next to you.

"You swallowed too much water, you brat. Had to make sure nothing was wrong with you. Couldn't risk it".

The lifesaver got you the fast as he could, poor guy. When Jungkook pushed you into the pool and jumped right after, he had no idea you couldn't swim, so he died laughing at your poor excuse of acting like you were drowning. You couldn't be, right? How could he possibly know that? He asked you the day before, and you said yes without hesitating. He felt guilt, but felt even more intrigued that you were too embarrassed or too proud to tell him you couldn't swim.

"Can't believe I got you on a date and that prick was the one who got to kiss you", he teased again, and you threw your pillow at Jungkook, but your movements were too slow.

"I am this close away from strangling you, Jungkook"

She never liked being helped in any way, unless she specifically asked for it. Have I told you guys how we met? This is very important…

Like always, I was rushing through the airport, traveling without the members this time. I looked at my left and I saw a girl sat down on the ground trying to gather her things that were on the floor. It seemed that her suitcase was very full and had busted just before her boarding. She was desperate to say the least. Only a old lady were helping her when so many people were just there, watching the scene…

"YAH! Aren't you gonna help? Really?", you yelled at the guy with the big bucket hat that passed right through you, stomping on your things that were splattered on the ground.

Jungkook had no plans to stop, but seeing your red face and despair in your eyes... he couldn't keep walking. He stopped abruptly, giving a few steps back and kneeling right in front of you, helping pick up your things. You were in such a hurry that you didn't even look in his face. "Thank you, thank you. I'm sorry.", you kept repeating as he and a few good souls helped you.

That's when you saw. Those hands. You saw those hands somewhere before. Skinny fingers adorned with tattoos. Wait a minute. You had seen that tattoos before. Did it spell it.... ARMY?No. It couldn't. Must be a crazy fan that decided to make the exactly same tattoos as Jeon Jungkook. It couldn't be him. You wouldn't stop an IDOL to pick up your things from the dirty floor at the airport. You wouldn't. You had bad luck, but not THAT much. Your eyes were starting to fail, blinking unconsciously when you receive your last stroke: he was picking it up so fast that you couldn't be sure what he was gathering, but it was nothing else than your panties. The pink ones. All the 13 you put on your purse. Why did you have so much pink underwear?

"oh, God… I am so, so, so, so, so sorry!", you whispered, trying not to gain any more attention and risk him being recognized by anyone. You could tell no one noticed BTS Jungkook was there, and you wanted to keep it that way. You had done enough damage by now. You saw his eyes bugged out when he noticed you recognized him too.

"it's okay.", he whispered back, still picking up your things at full speed, trying not to blush when he saw your underwear, too many for him pretend no to notice them. "C'mon, pick it up!", he rushed you when he saw that you were frozen looking at his face.

'WOW. He's even more handsome in person.' Your hands started to pick the rest of your stuff, touching his in the process. Jungkook took his hands away like he was shocked by the touch.

"I'm really sorry.", you whispered. "Go, go.", you shushed him, taking advantage of the thousands of people who weren't giving a shit to help you and were stepping on the smaller things you left behind. "I'm sorry", you apologized again, closing the damn bag and thanking the people around you (the few angels) that also helped you. If one of them had noticed who was there, he could be in big trouble. You couldn't see any bodyguards around him, so he could be alone. Imagine what could've happened.

You watched Jungkook leave to catch his flight, almost running. What you didn't see was that he looked back, searching for your eyes, those beautiful eyes that made him forget his words.

You shook your head, trying to think straight while a funny thought crossed your mind: you just met a world renowned idol, a beautiful man and your ultimate crush from your favorite band, and your major concern was his well-being. Not the fact you were face to face with Jeon Jungkook, but the fact that he could be in serious trouble if anyone else had notice. Funny.

Oh, and yeah, you lost your flight."

We ended up meeting each other again in a presentation with the members. YN works for a youth and adolescent protection company. The way I see it, she's got the perfect job for her personality. I want to help people, like everyone does, but my girlfriend has something that sparks in her when she talks about it. That's why she works at terrible hours, just like me. I can't count the times YN had to go with the officers to some children houses to literally get them out of there, or how many times she cried herself to sleep thinking about them. The times she told me about some asshole parent cussing her and work colleagues for 'taking them away from them without permission'… It's sickening. Are they really that blind to what that kids suffer watching all the fights, getting beat up, cussed out… It's not normal. It's not okay.

It took me a while to get YN to trust me, or at least try to, cause it seemed like she saw a threat in every people she met. Like she would fight you to not be hurt. The amount of times we talked about it in the past…

"I’m going to tell you this, once, because I think you need to hear it: You deserve more, YN. You should expect more from the world and put in the work to get what you deserve."

"You don't even know me, Jeon.", you stated.

"I know you've been through some heavy things in your life and I know you don't feel comfortable talking about them yet, but I wanna let you know that whether we stay together or not, I'll do everything I can to help you through. I like you, YN."

"Your ways go against so many things I'm afraid of, Jeon Jungkook.", you laugh at his wide and round eyes looking at you. "And I've never been a fan of change, but you make me less scared of trying."

"That's very good.", Jungkook smiled. "Not everything needs an explanation, YN. I care about you. I don’t have to sit here and figure out why. I just do. So maybe you should try just accepting it too. "

"What are you saying, Kook?", you ask, unsure of his words.

"All I'm saying is that If you want me… you’ve got me."

And after a while, we started dating. Getting to know her wasn't easy, but YN is so interesting, so intelligent, so kind and hot, and brave… I can talk about her for hours (don't worry, I won't. Not now, at least). When we didn't live together, and I came over to her place, sometimes she had that really quiet way, but not the normal quiet way. She was clearly upset with something, but didn't wanna talk about it. 'What's the point of sharing if you can't help me, Kook? It's just gonna bug you, like it is bugging me. It's not worth it.'

It's not worth it. This phrase really pisses me off.

But I'm a persistent guy. I don't give up easily…

"You know… Leaning on other people doesn't make your achievements any less yours, YN. You can talk to me. I'm your boyfriend. Your friend. You can trust me."

"I know, Kook… I don't know how to fit you in my world without hurting you too.". Jungkook gave you a smile.

"Don't worry about hurting me," he replied calmly. "I like being a part of your world, and I understand that it's more complicated than you're willing to share with me. But I respect that."

This isn't the first time YN tries to break up with me. She acts like she doesn't be a burden to me, but she never was. But in the beginning, I always insisted for her to be there for my presentations, practices, shows, lives, all that I could. I wanted her with me all the time. But that just put more pressure on her, so I eventually stop asking. She'll go when she's ready to go.

“Are you tired of me?”

"What?"

"I know how difficult it is to put up with me, Jungkook. You don't deserve it."

Tears stung your eyes, and you roughly wiped them away. You didn’t know why your chest suddenly felt tight and your throat ached. You thought you were fine. You mostly were, when you were with Jungkook, but sometimes your mind insisted on telling you that you were holding back, robbing him from someone better. “It- it doesn’t matter. It’s not like it would work out anyway. I’m no good for you- for anyone. I’m a complete mess, Kook.”

Jungkook wrapped their fingers around your wrists, pulling your hands away from your face and staring at you with a burning intensity you haven't seen before. “It matters to me. I want you, YN, your mess included. I want you when you get so overwhelmed you cry and when you say mean things that you’re too proud to apologize for and when you ignore me because you think you don’t deserve me. I want all of you.”

My weekly roundup CW 22

I try to write down my thoughts after watching stuff to create a little weekly ranking in relation to the previous week on my, most of the times, quiet sundays (and because I love lists!). These are just my personal opinions and preferences based on the feeling I got watching the episodes.

And yes, this will contain spoilers!

Step by Step was on a hiatus this week, so it doesn't come up in this ranking :)

The award for the best character this week goes to:

→ 1. The Day I Loved You (10/10 Final)

The episode with the ending. It's prom night and of course Nikko doesn't make it in time. But Eli and Justin wouldn't be the two great guys who love Nikko more than anything if they hadn't prepared something. And that is to just bring the prom to Nikko's house and Eli gives him the prom dance and they are prom king and king. And all of that would be cheesy to no end under normal circumstances, but it's spot on here. Where the series lost me a bit was the ending. Eli gets accepted to an Ivy League university and goes to the US to be with Nikko. It's totally romantic and all at first. But it was a little too much for me. I was set on a sad ending because it's realistic. Nikko is going to die sooner or later from his illness, and the way he's been, he wouldn't want Eli to accompany him through that process. He would want Eli to go his own way, to find his little happiness on earth. That's just my personal feeling and what I took from Nikko's character and maybe personal experience also plays a small role here. With such topics I am then nevertheless somewhat more for realism at the end. This is only a small drop on the hot stone and has in the end no influence in the fact that it was simply a quite wonderful series! One of the best I've seen so far. Very wholesome.

↑ 2. Be My Favorite (2/10)

The episode with the most surprising ending.

Kawi is the embodiment of all people with a fragile self-esteem and Pisaeng is the voice that we don't like to listen to, that we hardly believe, but that simply speaks the truth. All the shortcomings Kawi thinks he sees in himself exist only in his head, and out there are people who want to be his friends because of who he is. Pisaeng wants to be his friend, even if Kawi can't understand that. But that's not what friendships are about. You don't get to decide why a person wants to be friends with you or what they see in you that you might not see yourself. Your friend sees something in you that helps himself, that gives him confidence, that is valuable to him. And shit, this show makes me cry simply because Kawi represents all my insecurities and my thoughts in my head, which I also have when I wonder why people want to be friends with me when I am just the way I am, with all my shortcomings and insecurities. I thought the conversations Kawi and Pisaeng had in the park and in Kawi's room were so wonderful. And I like that Kawi can travel back and forth in the timelines. I'm a curious bitch…this series satisfies my curiosity a lot! And it provides good humorous moments. And just endings like this one…Where you just sit there and wonder, what the hell happened between you in all this time? I'm really taken with it.

→ 3. La Pluie (6/12)

The episode of the roller coaster of emotions. First hot, then confused and shy, then I was briefly confused, then suddenly sweet again and then at the end I thought only Nope… So first Patts and Saengtai make out on the floor after Patts had showered - he could have joined him in the shower afterwards - I have nothing against the make out scene, it was aesthetically very pleasing, how it was built up, how the desire slowly increased, how the glasses flew and the emotions were released, just a very nice scene. And after that, Saengtai was shy as hell. I mean yeah, you can be a bit shy after something like that, but Patts was already trying to comfort him a bit and yet Saengtai is quite tense in his presence. I don't know, this hot and cold is a bit too much for me. But well, that's personal preference here. And in the end, Saengtai comes along on the trip and everything in my little heart was good again. Well, until Lomfon showed up and has this look on him and Saengtai kind of dives into that look and I can't see through what's going on in his head. And then he agreed to go out to dinner with him…argh! I don't like it here. So Patts, mark your territory! Saengtai is yours!

↑ 4. Our Dining Table (9/10)

The episode that felt very wholesome. There's my wholesome series back again! The dad is just the best! And Yutaka confessed his feelings to Minoru? Though in a very clumsy approach, but still! And it was sweet! And finally they can talk to each other again and be happy and when Yutaka was with his family and had the conversation with his brother, I shed a little tear! That was urgently necessary this conversation. Even if he himself has found his place in life and his own family, so to speak, he always has a place there and that's nice. An all-around nice episode.

↑ 5. My Story (8/10)

The episode of the (re)unions. Fifth and Zeke finally got to talk about what they actually are and how they feel about each other and my heart wanted to burst with sweetness! So no drama here this week, just pure love. It was about time!

And our main couple? Things were heating up here. First Sky was romanced by his boss, who had to confess her feelings to him. What Sky then very nicely and considerately rejected. But then it seems that he finally clicked and went back to Win to spend a hot night with him. I have to say, one of the best first kisses I've seen so far, because there was so much insecurity and caution in it, that they approached each other slowly and didn't just press lips to lips. I thought it was really good. Otherwise, my heart was befuddled by two love confessions before and I may have been a bit blinded.

→ 6. The Luminous Solution (2/6)

The episode with the dream sequences Okay, who the hell is this Time and what is he up to? I just see two possible cheating paths in my mind's eye: Thana and Time and the doctor and this one friend of his who flirts so openly with our little doctor, even though he knows the doctor is in a long-term relationship. He who has such friends does not need an enemy. The dream sequences looked very aggressive, why did they have to be so aggressive with each other? Okay, maybe that's their thing, but even the facial expressions didn't look like, "now I'm going to spank you", but more like "I'm going to really beat you up"…. And Mai and Ryou? They're getting closer, while the best friend doesn't like it at all. Mai is perhaps a bit pushy and the best friend too possessive. And Ryou stands in the middle grinning silly. I think it's quite cute.

↑ 7. Naked Dining (8/12)

The episode with the What the Fucks. What the fuck is going on here? First all the misunderstandings and not listening properly or articulate and then at the end of the confession of the colleague, although she knows exactly that something is developing between Mahiro and Souta. A blind man with a cane could see that! Argh…this story makes me angry! Why does such a stupid drama have to be built into it and why did no one listen to the other? And why did I always call Souta Futa before? Questions that don't seem to have answers. But seriously, this jumping to conclusions that arise in one's own mind I find insanely annoying. I draw such conclusions myself, which is why I welcome it in my environment when people simply speak to me clearly and do not keep opinions behind the tree. To then see it repeated in a series that has actually been very good so far just upsets me a bit. Mahiro is so convinced that Souta doesn't actually like him and yes, I agree with him, the attempt with the kiss, that was really stupid…you should know before a kiss if you really want to kiss the person (although sometimes a kiss can be so bad that you spontaneously lose interest in the person - speaking from my own experience). And Souta should try to express his thoughts more clearly, so that there is not so much room for interpretation. And then Souta runs to Mahiro to tell him not to jump to conclusions, sees him embracing his colleague, and jumps to those damn conclusions himself and runs away dejected….AAAAHHHHH!

The episodes with the rehashed scenes. I'm having a hard time liking the second Bad Buddy episode. I still found the first one quite entertaining. I would have found it more interesting to see more of them hiding their relationship from the friends, especially since the friend groups are getting along and hanging out now. So why couldn't they at least pretend to like each other a little bit, you don't always have to push and hit right away. But when it collided with A Tale Of Thousand Stars, my two hearts collided inside me. The series are not for me to mix. The dynamics and comedy are so different that by the end it was really hard for me to feel sympathy for anyone. I love Bad Buddy and I love A Tale Of Thousand Stars even more. However, Phupha is drawn so unlikable here that I have a hard time liking him. He was a loving loner who would have moved mountains for his friends and those he loves. Why he doesn't want to travel to Bangkok now to celebrate Tian's birthday with his family is a mystery to me. Even if he doesn't like people, he would have done that for Tian. I feel like they tried to make ATOTS match the dynamic to Bad Buddy and it doesn't work for me. Also, all the Easter Eggs from the original series ATOTS that have now been rehashed just don't taste right. The iconic mosquito net scene, for example. It is iconic because it was at the very beginning of the relationship and there was no kiss, but you could feel the attraction and tension of the two across the screen. It doesn't need to be humorously analyzed, whether they kissed or not. The scene with the T-shirt was more of a slapstick than anything else and I didn't find it funny and I don't want to think about it again...

Nearly everyone told you that the move was dangerous because of your past injuries, but you wanted to pay homage to your boyfriend. You’d been together for almost four years, and this was the first time he’d been able to come to AEW to watch you fight. Between the pandemic, the travel restrictions, and busy schedules, he couldn’t find time to make it to one of your shows, but tonight he was there. 

“Hey Penelope,” you smiled at the blonde next to you. “Are you ready for our match?” 

“You know I am.” She looked at you and winked before turning her focus back to the curtain as her theme hit. While she was walking out to the ring, you noticed that your boyfriend, El Phantasmo, was dressed in his Bullet Club shirt and his tights. 

“What are you doing? My match is about to start.” You questioned him, while still focusing so you didn’t miss your cue. 

“Tony wants me to walk out with you. I told him that I was okay to do that since I always bring spare tights with me.” He spoke, lifting one shoulder in a shrug.

Just when you were about to say something else, your music hit, and you took a step out of the curtain. Phantasmo was right behind you, and followed close behind as you began your entrance. 

“Representing Bullet Club, and accompanied by El Phantasmo, Y/w/n!” Justin called through his microphone. 

Once you finished your entrance, you and Penelope entered into a lock, and she swung around, grabbing your waist. The match continued back and forth between the two of you for a short time before it was time for your surprise. With Penelope on the mat, you moved to the side and reached the corner, and began stomping your foot. As if he could sense his wife in line of danger, Kip Sabian’s music began playing. You knew that he was going to come out right when you were ready for the move, but Penelope wasn’t informed. However, you didn’t know that and went for the move, but she moved because of the distraction, causing you to crash and become tangled in the ropes. You could feel an immense amount of pain coming from your wrist, and you knew something was seriously wrong. Continuing the match however, Penelope grabbed your neck and arm, attempting to drag you for her finishing move, but by surprise, you flipped through and landed a mid-rope DDT, causing her to drop to her knees. You rushed to the corner, stomping your foot once more before she moved in the correct spot, and landed a “Sudden Death” to her. After she fell, you rushed over to get the pin.

In spite of the things said, you pulled off the move and scored the victory. El Phantasmo rushed into the ring to celebrate with you, accidentally grabbing your hurt wrist. He didn’t know you’d gotten hurt, and when you reacted to the pain, he rushed the celebration to get you backstage. When back there, you instantly went to medical for Doc Sampson to check you out. The inspection of your wrist felt like hours, even though it was only a few moments.

“She just twisted it, and she should only be out about three to four weeks.” Sampson spoke before turning and walking out the door.

Once he left, Phantsmo spoke up. “You did my move,” he said with a huge smile on his face. “That was amazing babe!”

“I wanted to surprise you with it. With my past leg injuries, I didn’t want to get your hopes up, but I was able to do it.” You smiled back.

He leaned in slowly, bending down to your height on the examination table. With that, he placed a gentle kiss on your forehead.

“It was perfect.”

I'm confused like they got engaged but she's not wearing the ring , why ?

I think there’s really 3 easy answers here that immediately came to kind for me.

1. She looked like she was in pajamas when the picture was taken. A lot of women do not sleep with their engagement rings on. I never did and I still don’t. It’s very easy to bend or damage a prong in your sleep which can compromise the safety of a diamond (or whichever stone) and cause it to fall out. It also took me scratching my own face with it accidentally two nights in a row when I was first engaged to decide I was done wearing my ring to bed. When the pajamas go on, the rings come off. I put them back on when I get ready for the day the next morning. I also personally don’t wear my during cooking, cleaning, yard work, in the pool, or travel and a lot of women are the same way. This option seems to be the most likely to me because I don’t think we saw any other photos of Alba from the weekend? Just the one of her in pajamas. In that case, we have no way of knowing if she didn’t slip the ring back on later.

2. They aren’t ready for gossip rags or tabloids to pick up the engagement. Whether you all believe it or not, when there is gossip about a specific celebrity, magazines have interns and writers watch specific fan spaces or social media accounts to look for clues to link things together. Think back to the Just Jared Pumpkin article. They wrote that whole article based on fan speculation and gathering the picture proof of the matching pumpkins from Alba’s mom’s Facebook and Chris’s IG post. Think back to DM trying to connect the two of them together during that New Years and Vegas trip. She mentioned almost all of the connected people (Scott, Tara, Justin, etc.) on her podcast. If tabloids are looking for a scoop and want to be the first to drop it (an engagement article would be huge) they know who to keep an eye on to find clues. A simple picture with friends where a ring is clearly seen would be proof enough for them to run with a headline that said something like “Alba Baptista spotted with ring amid engagement to Chris Evans rumors.”

3. Are her friends attention seekers? Based on fan commentary, I think a large majority of this fandom would say yes. There might be a lot of things that all of us disagree on, but the one thing this fandom seems to be united on is agreeing that her friends are attention seekers. Now I know that we don’t know them personally, but if there is even an ounce of that statement that could be the truth, I can also understand why she would choose not to wear a ring around her friends. All it would take is one of them taking a picture of her with the ring in clear sight without her knowing and sending it off to a tabloid with a short story for some cash. And the sad part about it is she might not even be able to pinpoint which friend betrayed her. While I think this is the most unlikely option, I’m also not gonna pretend like friends and family have not to be trade celebrities to tabloids before for a payday.

Now I do understand that some people will refuse to believe that they are engaged until they can see the ring for themself. I can understand that mindset. People want solid evidence and I don’t think that’s really unfair. However, a photo only depicts one short moment of someone’s life. Not their entire life or even their entire day. A photo is not always the best source of proof in some situations. I mentioned above how I frequently take my rings off to keep them safe and protected. Does that mean if somebody takes a picture of me when I have them off and you can see that I’m not wearing rings that I am not married to my husband? No. Of course not. Do we see the issue with that logic now? While that picture isn’t showing you what you want to be seeing (proof of the engagement) it also might not be representing the truth of the situation either.

There are also plenty of times we do have picture or video evidence of them together and people still try to scream it isn’t true. Alba and Chris showed up to the Ghosted premier together. They were photographed in Portugal together. Let’s also not forget all the times that they were together that he showed us proof of himself via his Instagram stories. She didn’t do that, her friends didn’t do that, he did that. He is the one that shared proof that they’ve been spending time together (some in locations none of us had even known they’d gone) and people still refuse to take it as the truth. So what good does evidence even do when there are so many people that refuse to believe the truth anyway? Or at the very least, the truth that he wants you to be believing. 🦎

I need some parenting advice. Will delete later.

Gen is a little genius babe. She has more vocab and is more articulate than some 6 year olds I know. She is also able to emotionally regulate in stressful situations.

But. In non-stressful situations she has zero patience (in perfect conditions, not related to being tired or hungry). If she is making a tower and a few blocks fall, or the paper rips while she is coloring, or Alyssa is playing with something she wants to be playing with, she is on the floor screaming. In public or at home. It takes me 2-10 minutes to calm her down. I know she is 2 years old. But a couple of George’s therapists have seen it and have recommended behavioral therapy.

Although, for some reason, she never does this with our parents? Not even when they watched the kids for 3 days while we were on our house hunting trip. They think I’m overexaggerating. She didn’t do this with Justin either until very recently, 2 or 3 months ago. And of course she never does this at a fun place, like at the park or at Target. It’s during errands or at home.

Behavioral therapy could help I’m sure, but it’s hard to get before age 3 and it’s not something I am pursuing at this point. Alyssa starts school in September and George in October (not ABA) and I will have so much time to work with her one on one. I plan on doing a preschool curriculum with her and enrolling her in a couple classes with peers, she is easily bored and needs constant mental stimulation.

Anyway. I am only bringing up the tantrums/lack of patience because I need to make decisions about potty training and her crib.

My friends and family think Gen is ready for potty training and to be in a big kid bed. They think I’m being lazy about it.

Physically, she is ready. She has been ready. But she doesn’t want to sit on the potty, and if I finally get her there, she doesn’t want to get up. I think she’s more interested in playing with the toilet paper and the soap after.

So. Do I fight with a child who is physically ready, or do I wait? She will be 3 in October. I’ve been told the longer you wait the harder it is. I know we’re just getting settled etc, but diaper changes are also very challenging for the above mentioned reason.

Next question is crib. She doesn’t want to be in a crib but after last night I do not think she is ready for a big kid bed, or even to have a side taken off. She travels while asleep. We tried to keep the mattresses flush with the wall as much as possible but there is a window cutout behind her. She flipped up and over the pillows last night while throwing a sleep tantrum (she’s the same kid that didn’t sleep through the night until she was 2) and down into the cutout. Three different times.

But also the night before last night she slept soundly and it wasn’t an issue.

Do I fight to keep her in the crib even though she doesn’t want to be in it and is almost 3? Or do I force her to stay in it because she flops all over the place? She’s in a king now and flopped off 3 of the 4 sides last night.

Potty training and big kid bed advice please.

Looong Holiday Weekend

Saturday morning @lessjokes and I got up and biked to St. Francis for breakfast and then popped into Beretta for a quick marg before Indy 5 at the Alamo, after which we biked to the friends 'n' fam opening of Jesse's new Enterprise Brewing where we ran into Theresa and Chris and Jane and Dave and Fred. The pilsner is pretty good. I bought some merch from Lauren and made a plan with her to meet up the next day at Stern Grove for Santigold and OGI, then Jess and Jane and I went to dinner at Ryo's new place Kuma on Valencia which was bomb. Then Jess and I went home (me electing to skip the Star Decay show and the Blue Velvet screening in favor of saving up energy for the next day) and she packed up and went to the airport and I watched a movie and went to sleep early. In the morning I caught the 23 out to the concert and hung out with Lauren and her friends on her blanket, and I ran into David and Kaveena and chatted for a bit. Santi was pretty good. Then I caught the M-Ocean or K-Ingleside (first time in a while either way) back to town and grabbed a 12er of Truly to take to Sylvia's backyard birthday BBQ. I arrived at the same time as Dave's friend from Barcelona, so we talked Barcelona for a bit, then I talked to Fred about being teenage punks turned 40ish old guys. I met Rebecca for the first time, she seemed pretty cool. Matt's kid was really funny. I drank a bunch of Trulys and ate a platter of grilled zucchini nobody was touching, and then afternoon turned into a blur. After midnight I walked with Fiona a few blocks, gossiped about the day and then hopped a sharebike home. The next day I took the ferry over to Oakland to meet Jane at the Snail Bar 2-year anniversary party. We had crudite, Colombian hot dogs and shrimp tostadas, all of which were bomb, then I caught a ride back to Jane's place and we caught the sunset on the deck and sobered up and then I drove my car (which I'd left there the previous week after our final dinner at Longbranch before David's retirement) back home and chilled out for an hour before catching the 24 over the hill to the Knockout to meet up with Sylvia, Fiona, Rebecca and Dave for karaoke. I sang "Only You" by Yaz and "When You're Gone" by the Cranberries, thinking of Jess far away, and I ran into my guy @chineseripofff for the first time in years and we hugged a lot and talked about the old days, and we all had to stay til just about closing to see Dave do "The Passenger," which was worth it. Fiona didn't sing but seemed to have the best time out of all of us. Rebecca gave us some cool tips about nightlife in the Excelsior, and then I caught the 49 with her in that direction, forgetting that the 24 I was gonna transfer to didn't run at that time of night, so I ended up walking all the way up Cortland to grab a sharebike. (I wanted this to be one huge paragraph btw but Tumblr is making me break it up...)

The next day was the 4th, so I got up and went Duc Loi to get stuff to bring to @corntard's BBQ. I got a 12er of Topo Chico hard seltzers (which turned out to be not as good as Truly, in my opinion, despite the cooler packaging), King's Hawaiian rolls (because they were out of hot dog buns), two bags of ice, and a coconut water. Mike, Constance and @westerday were there when I arrived, followed by Kate and Sean, Javier and Leti, Dave and Sylvia, and then Sunny and Rebecca and a few others later on. We talked film stuff, the new bike lanes on Valencia, travel, the old days, and probably lots of other topics, ate Korean dogs and taters and a couple big salads, and then the sun was setting and it was time to go. Dave and I strolled by the Make-Out Room but the Healing Gems show hadn't even started yet so we grabbed a booth for two at the LAC and talked about social anxiety and romantic relationships for a while. Upon our return to the Make-Out Room, Stella and Justin and Shannon and Greg were outside smoking and I hadn't seen Stella in a WHILE and she had a bunch of fun news to talk about, so we basically missed the entire Adron set (although we could see it and hear it decently from out front) just catching up. A very well dressed @vicwomg came over to say hi and we talked about the Wednesday night jazz scene briefly. It was cool to have this particular group randomly hanging out after all these years. Stella and Justin had to take off, so I went inside to watch Healing Gems. Sylvia arrived and found me and Dave. Healing Gems were pretty good. Dave and I bought LPs and we sat at a booth and finished our drinks and then I went home. The next day I spent mostly on the couch recovering, but I had a nice FaceTime with Jess and ate some healthy stuff and then went to Doc's to meet up with Dave and Sylvia (yet again) for a drink before Weird Wednesday at the Alamo. Innerspace holds up. Another drink at Doc's after and then home. The next day, another day on the couch, followed by another trip to the Alamo (with Dave and Sylvia again, and Helena) for the premiere of Joy Ride, which fucking RIPS, after which Dave and I caught a car to the Savoy Tivoli for Wesley's 40th birthday party. Mike, Constance, Sunny and a few others I didn't know were there. I talked to Sunny at length about the arc of her special friendship with Veljko, which was pretty entertaining. I met Wesley's friend Rabin who was wearing a kickass hot pink Madonna crewneck. (Hope she's okay.) Then Mike and Constance had to go home, so we took a bunch of photos in the street out front and then they left and the rest of us went to Bow Bow where I sang "Those Were the Days" and "The Wanderer" for Wesley (get it?) and then Wesley did a great performance where he sang "mammas don't let your cowboys grow up to be babies" instead of the real line which was very funny and awfully poignant? Dave (three times I think!) opted to sing songs he didn't know because nobody else wanted to do them. Then a bunch of bros came in and took the place over so we left. Now it's the next day and I'm recharging on the couch (and seeing if my memory still works) before Melanie gets to town in a couple hours and it's time to go out again. Wesley says he's gonna be in the "south Mission" tonight if anybody wants to meet up.

Hi Charity, here's why I think Taylor Swift is an Enneagram 6. now, I have considered Enneagram 3 like many internet users have mentioned for some reason. however, Taylor doesn't seem like the kind to shamelessly promote herself. if she's done it she's done it ironically as a joke (no offence to 3s, I have a 3 fix/wing to my heart fix so I understand) and she may have a 3 fix, her heart fix is likely to be either 2 or 3, but 3s promote themselves as the best and they flaunt their successes to show that they're competent and not in defense of insults to her success like she did when Justin Timberlake insulted her in their skit. Taylor is successful, but not only 3s can have success and a lot of success. if she doesn't have this hallmark trait of an enneagram 3, who lets you know how competent they are every once in awhile, she likely isn't a 3. Taylor focuses on supporting other women, and she replies all her messages her friends send (stated by Camila Cabello). that seems more 6-ish than 3-ish and these are just a few examples. Taylor seems more of a head type imo. If I had to choose I'd say 6w7 and so/sp for her iv because she's focused on friendships/relationships much more than her own self but she does not hesitate cutting people off (sp) if they threaten her or the people around her which she said in an interview

Your argument for 6 sounds 2ish/2-wing to me.

In the interest of considering this, I watched a couple of interviews with her -- she's very calm, put together, slow-talking, and seems quite sure of herself. I don't see any 6ish nervousness or 7 wing 'manic' behavior (loudness, enthusiasm, being silly). She seems very serious and focused. Not all 3s are obviously cringe -- high Fe makes them aware of how they are coming across, and what would look bad (but even though, doesn't she pick on her ex's?). She seems like a heart type to me. Despite being sx-blind, she's always trying to connect and find relationships and reach out to people. Fits so/sp 3w2 quite well.

ETA: Go look up Anne Hathaway Time Travels... on YouTube and watch the difference. I doubt Taylor would announce in front of everyone that the last time she was on the show, she split her pants twice. That would just be ... not image management. And yet, that's what a 6w7 just said on live television. ;)
