Ok.
You know that lately I’ve been on a “Darkwing Duck” rewatch marathon.
In the last episode I saw, “Cleanliness is Next to Badliness”,  Steelbeak and Ammonia Pine join forces to rob more banks as possibile for the F.O.W.L., and Darkwing is busy in entertaining his new fanclub members.
Then a line of dialogue between the two villains hitted me:
Steelbeak: What’s all the racket?
Ammonia: Beat me, hun. Looks like Megavolt’s having a block party!
Aaand there’s the result:

--iwaizumi hajime x f!reader; fake/pretend dating, mutual pining, third year characters, confident/no-nonsense reader, puppet master oikawa, ocassional cursing, other than that no warnings!
--summary: Iwaizumi Hajime was more than content to not be at the receiving end of the hordes of fangirl's attention.
But when they all suddenly devote their time and love to him, he can't help but quickly want an out. It's Oikawa's suggestion- a good one at that. Get a girlfriend to scare them off.
And what better than use you, Iwaizumi's best friend with a long standing crush on him, to play the role.
a/n: this is my first haikyuu fic! i did not expect it to be about iwa considering im a huge daichi simp, but that’s what listening to bubble pop electric by gwen stefani and browsing through pinterest does to the brain, ig. please let me know if any characters are too ooc, as im still trying to get them down.
other than that, enjoy! messages are always appreciated.

Iwaizumi Hajime was hand sculpted by the gods, the entire female student body deduces with fanatic agreement one blessed afternoon. His shoulders are broad, skin rippling like waves breaking on rocks under the movement of his muscles. His stomach is firm and taut with the lining of his abs and his pectorals are considerably large enough to have every single girl in attendance foam at the mouth. And as he raises one— bulging — arm to wave sheepishly to the widened eyes of the crowd, his thick and veiny hand on full display, a collective moan is heard throughout the building. It has the poor boy ducking his head downward even further.
The fundraiser arranged to cover the expenses of the volleyball team’s traveling to away games exceeded its initial goal (that of which the all-female led student council was greatly responsible for) resulting in the entire team parading themselves around the cafeteria as a reward for the students’ commitment to the task.
Shirtless.
And while attention from the female population has usually always been paid to the star setter, Oikawa Tooru and all of his addicting charm, his absence in this mouthwatering and delectable ceremony has allowed for the ace and vice-captain of the Seijoh Volleyball Team to shine. Oh, and shine, he has.
Within a mere five minutes, the fiercely devoted and militant fanclub belonging to Oikawa has suddenly converted— briefly, they insist— to the groupies of Seijoh’s Vice Captain: powerful ace, leader of offense, total hottie.
The attention increases tenfold from that point on. Suddenly, Oikawa is no longer the only one receiving love confessions numerous times on a daily basis (much to his chagrin), but instead is sharing the spotlight with his best friend, who is more than uncomfortable with the unexpected shift in notice. He was never ecstatic at being labeled as ‘Oikawa’s number two’, adamant that he was his own entity despite the intricate intertwinement with his best friend, he was, in fact, totally fine with never being hounded by girls at every minute of the day. Sure, the attention would be nice, occasionally.
But this? This is outrageous.
This is the tenth girl today to have stopped by his locker, a pink flush encompassing her face as she sticks her hands out to present something to Iwaizumi. It’s tupper ware, decorated in a pink bow with his name written in cursive on the top accompanied by some cute glitter stickers. That would make this the fourth container he’s received this morning, and as much as the whole act fills him with a deep dread and hesitation, he doesn’t have the heart to reject her gift. Especially when her hands are shaking so hard and she’s stuttering every other word out.
So he puts on the standard smile, the one that he’s seen Oikawa pump out a hundred times a day but fails to meet in equal warmth and charm, and thanks her graciously and sincerely— even though he’s not that big a fan of milk bread and this is the third one he’s going to have to shove into his locker.
He bows to her with an awkward smile, “Ah, thank you, uh…”
“H-Hina!” she shouts, her hands slapping upward towards her mouth after the outburst. The pink flushes deeper on her skin, and Iwaizumi has to wonder what exactly is going through the air for a girl to have this kind of reaction to him. He hasn’t changed, hasn’t developed a new attitude that should have girls swooning at his feet. He’s the same as always, stubbornly so. He is Iwaizumi Hajime, hardass, avid monster movie watcher and the usual second thought. He supposes he should feel somewhat elated at the long-awaited recognition, but he can’t shake off the feeling that this is all incredibly unwarranted.
It's a surface value attraction. They're not really swooning for him, just the idea of him. That stings a bit more than he’d like to admit.
“Hina,” he affirms with a gentle nod, bowing his head in gratitude, “Thank you for the treat. I will, uh, treasure every bite.”
He doesn’t mean it to be anything charming (because he’s not) nor even remotely romantic (because it’s not), it’s just what he comes up with at the top of his head, but Hina starts to shake and a watery smile spreads across her face when she hears it and he knows he’s made this whole thing much worse. Before he can even awkwardly ask if she’s alright, she bows hurriedly again before running off with a shriek.
It's then that he’s sure Oikawa is one sadistic motherfucker because there is no way anyone mentally sane could take that reaction as a compliment. There’s an intense guilt that settles in his stomach for the rest of the day for causing a girl to tremble like that.
Curse the student council for that stupid fundraiser award. He would much rather walk to every away game than have to go through another day of this.
He opens his locker again, placing the container in there amongst all the other ones and the numerous handmade cards declaring affection. He closes it with a sigh. He can only hope that this phase of adoration is reaching its end.
Quickly.
**
It does not end quickly.
It's month three of endless confessions and Iwaizumi is about to lose his mind. Word spreads about his favorite kinds of teas and sweets (which he is sure Oikawa is directly responsible for) and his locker starts to resemble a mall kiosk more than any part of school property. The outside is decorated with stickers and taped with more love cards and he’s pretty sure someone found out his combination (again) because there are balloons floating out of it.
It's a circus. One that Mattsukawa and Hanamaki repeatedly laugh about every time they see it.
He would like to indulge in the acts or at least make some kind of peace with the situation, he really would. He’s always fantasized in passing about the pride and specialty one must feel at being the center of female attention, having seen it and thwarted it first hand from Oikawa’s fans, but the longer this drags on the more fraudulent he starts to feel.
How can he enjoy his favorite foods when the girls giving it to him are blinded by a false idea of him? They’re not genuine, and if he accepted them, he would only feel like a bad guy, taking advantage of poor girls who haven’t got the slightest clue about him. Because Iwaizumi doesn’t have the million dollar smile like Oikawa does, nor does he have the oozing charm and commercial personality.
He’s hard, and stubborn, and less inclined to entertain bullshit— the complete opposite of shitty-kawa. So whatever perception these girls think they have of Iwa, they’re wrong. and he can’t accept gifts from these girls who think they love him, when in reality, he’s the furthest thing from what they assume he is.
“Why are you so adamant to believe that what they feel isn’t real? What's so ridiculous about liking you? Hmm?” Oikawa sings with a laugh one afternoon, the whole team crammed into the club room as they change out of their practice gear. the other guys snicker at Iwaizumi’s dismay, the usual frown painted on his face is permanently etched deeper into his skin and he knows they’re all getting a sick enjoyment from his torture.
The constant reliability to the chaos Oikawa brings is now subjected to his own taste of havoc. And he’s absolutely miserable.
In all of his stubborn self-sufficiency, he’s refused to even indulge the guys with a verbal complaint, simply grumbling at the gifts before moving on with his day. Intent on dealing with this problem on his own and prohibiting himself from being a burden to anyone else.
But he’s off his a-game in practice and the crease between his eyebrows is now a persistent feature on his face these days.
“Because it's not real,” he grunts, throwing his sweaty shirt into his sports bag, “They don’t like me.”
Hanamaki snorts from across the benches, a wide smile on his face as he unlaces his shoes and sings, “They only like him for his bodyyy.”
“Can you blame them? Who would ever like Iwa for his personality?” Matsukawa joins him in snickering, earning a killer glare from the victim in question. Not helping. They only laugh harder.
“So what?” Oikawa questions amusedly, ignoring the sarcasm dripping from the other two third years, leaning his body against the lockers as he watches his best friend ripple with frustration. A constant sight these days.
“So what?” Iwaizumi turns to look at him, incredulity furrowing his features as his friends look at him like he’s grown a third head for being reasonably uncomfortable with this, “It's weird. They’re giving all of these nice gifts to a guy they barely know and they all look at me like a piece of meat.”
“God, girls objectifying you? The horror.” Mattsun torts again, earning a water bottle thrown at his face.
“So what?” Oikawa laughs again, the kind of laugh that reverberates around the room and rings a little too loudly in his ears. He’s heard this laugh thousands of times over the years, coming out to play when Oikawa is far too keen on putting Hajime as the butt of a joke. The mockery is clear in his voice, bleeding in the two simple words yet weighing like a hundred. He can usually take it, dish it back with equal fervor to his best friend, but this time around, he can’t.
This whole mess of a situation sits heavily on his shoulders and for the first time, any attempt to just barrel through a problem like he so often does seems pointless to Hajime. Because no matter how much he ignores, no matter how often he declines, the girls will continue to only see Seijoh's ace. Not Iwaizumi Hajime.
He sighs. He doesn’t know what he was expecting in venting to his friends. Validation if they were any nicer, but deep down he knew it would take a different trajectory.
Maybe they’re right; Maybe he is blowing this out of proportion. Maybe he should just accept the gifts, enjoy them while he can because the girls are choosing to do it. They’re not being held against their will, nor is anyone really being hurt by these peculiar circumstances. It's, theoretically, a win-win.
It doesn’t stop the pit in his stomach from sinking even lower when he sees girls stop their chattering in the hallways as he passes. It doesn’t stop the overwhelming feeling of disappointment he feels when he notices they stare at his biceps before his face before dashing away.
Matsukawa shuts his own locker with a grumble, “Must be nice.”
“You wanna take my place, Issei?” iwaizumi turns to look over his shoulder, meeting the mischievous twinkle of the middle blocker.
“Yeah man, I do. Girls at my feet everyday bringing me food? That’s every guy’s dream.”
“Yeah, if every guy was a piece of shit like you.” The words tumble without second thought and Hanamaki finds himself clutching his stomach with laughter at the retort. He doesn’t mean to direct his anger at his friend, but it seeps into his words anyways. He’s lucky they’re good enough sports to take it in stride. Even if the twinkle in Matsukawa’s eyes dims and he grumbles a “shut up” while he slaps the back of Hanamaki’s head.
He knows a solution— or sympathy— won’t be offered in his venting, adamant that this is something he needs to solve on his own, but he can’t help himself. He just has to get it out. “I can't even go to class normally anymore. There’s always a girl waiting for me.”
His back is turned towards his friends as he folds his gym clothes into the open cubby, but even despite the absence of his facial expression, the other three sitting near him can hear the exhaustion in his voice. Much as they might tease him, they’ve sat front and center to the slow decline of Hajime’s sanity and comfort as he was thrust suddenly into the spotlight that he was ill-prepared for. He’s laughably out of his element, but his plight is severe enough for all three of them to occasionally step in.
Hanamaki and Mattsun have had their fair share of instances in which they’ve had to redirect of a horde of girls hounding at them for Iwaizumi’s location, telling them that they had no idea where Iwaizumi could have gone when in fact, he was hiding in the clubroom. And while they would’ve been more than happy to send them his way just to watch him fluster and stutter, the two friends knew the momentary laugh wouldn’t have been worth the further depletion of Hajime’s confidence and happiness. Iwaizumi wants this attention to be for something genuine, for something that he was directly responsible for and can be proud of. Not something as surface value as an attractive body.
Truth be told, all three of Seijoh's third years want to help him as much as Iwaizumi wants this to be over. But just like him, they have no idea what to do.
Hajime sighs again, “Don’t even get me started about when I’m with (Y/N). You think stalking is bad? Try having to deal with evil glares too.”
Scratch that. They have one idea.
The mention of the ace’s other best friend, the one that they’re all too familiar with, has all of Seijoh's members perking their heads upward in interest. A lightbulb going off simultaneously as they all share a glance with one another. Hanamaki looks up to Oikawa who looks to Mattsun who looks to Hanamaki. Their eyes darting between one another, telepathically asking the same question.
Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Hanamaki and Mattsun finalize their answer with a hard stare at Oikawa and smirks on their faces. They both give a long nod to their captain and like the well-oiled machine the Seijoh Volleyball Team is known to be, a plan is formulated and put into action before anyone can blink.
“Oh?” Oikawa prods, taking the initiative. His grin is suddenly more wicked than before, “How so?”
Iwaizumi notices the subtle change in tone in the conversation, can hear the smile in Oikawa’s words, but he doesn’t think much of it. Simply attributing it to the mention of the beloved figure they’re all acquainted with. He can’t blame them, finding his own mood has tipped upward at the mere thought of you. And while he has apologized to the moon and back for inadvertently getting you involved in this nightmare of a situation, there’s a resounding comfort he feels at knowing that there's at least one person on his side. One person that is willing to trudge through the mud with him, regardless of how often they complain.
Because whatever happens to him happens to you, you insist. So if he has to deal with a hundred fangirls, then so do you.
He plows on, airing out his struggles and frustrations with his newfound attention. “They’re always staring at us, making the whole thing uncomfortable when we’re just hanging out. (Y/N) even told me she once got cornered in the girls’ bathroom during lunch.”
Oikawa gasps, always enthralled with any juicy gossip, especially on the rare occasion that it involves you— his beloved, headstrong, annoying other best friend. “What did they say?”
“Some weird shit about staying away from me, like I was their property.”
“And what did (y/n) say?”
Iwaizumi laughs, a genuine one that has been missing since this whole ordeal began. He turns to look at his friends, the smile reaching his eyes and pushing upwards on his cheeks. If they weren’t sure of their plan before, the happiness on his face was enough of a push to solidify it. The happiness that only someone specific can bring out. “It's (Y/N). What do you think she said?”
Oikawa, all too familiar with your personality and deviance from the norm since age ten, huffs out a laugh, “Hmm, let me guess, something about doing whatever she wants with whoever she wants.”
“No, actually, she—”
You’re washing your hands in the sink of the bathroom when you hear a cough from behind you. Looking upwards into the mirror, you are suddenly confronted with the reflection of six girls circling around you.
A groan tumbles out of your mouth. You knew something like this was bound to happen, jealousy always emerging victorious whenever girls were thirsting after a young man. You just didn’t think it would be happening so soon, only two months into the fanatic obsession with your best friend. It’s your fault really, you should’ve prepared for a moment like this to come. But as they all shoot daggers into your reflection you can’t help but recognize how woefully dreadful this is.
You'd kill Hajime for inadvertently getting you into this if he wasn’t already feeling so guilty about it.
Each one stares at you with an intense fury, and while you’ve never considered yourself to be much of a fighter, you’re mentally preparing yourself to throw a couple of punches in this cramped bathroom. You won’t win, six against one is hardly a story of triumph, but you’ll be damned if you get intimidated by this raging group of hormones.
The faucet stops, with almost impeccable comedic timing, and a silence emanates throughout the area. It's awkward, painfully so and their silent stares are not helping.
“Uh… Can I help you?”
The one in the middle (the leader, you assume) stands with a hip jutted out and her arms crossed. You’ve seen her in passing before. Her eyes narrow at your question, “So, are you two dating?”
You have to force yourself to not roll your eyes. Of course this is where this was going. Because God forbid anyone have friends of the opposite gender. Indicator number one that the interest of these girls was superficial, considering if they even really had been interested in more than the prospect of having access to Iwaizumi’s body, they would’ve realized that you’ve been in his life for a lot longer than he’s had any redeeming qualities— including those rocking arms of his.
You won't entertain this, something you’ve been adamant about even if Hajime has insisted you don’t , especially not when it's causing Iwa all this grief that you’ve had to comfort him through time and time again.
“Who’s asking?” You all but bark back, patience wearing thin.
The one to the right of the leader— Pigtails, you’ve taken to calling her— scoffs and stomps her foot, “We are, obviously!”
Patience is below the ground now.
The left one, the one with pink hair, speaks this time, “Iwaizumi won’t even talk to us for more than a minute but he lets you hang around! So, if you’re not dating you have to tell us!”
“Why?”
“So that you can help us get closer to him!”
“Yeah, no.” you respond curtly, feeling rather nauseous at the lengths in which these girls are going just to get his attention. Cornering his friend and doing a piss-poor job at intimidating them into coercing them for information about him. No wonder Hajime's been feeling so depressed.
Taking the piss out of him used to be fun, something you and Pikawa could share profound pleasure in, but now that it's at your front door and reeking of death, you’re quickly realizing just how much you owe that spiky haired idiot.
You grab your bag that lay at your feet, turning to face the six girls with a mirthless smile despite the hatred burning in their eyes.
“Good luck with… whatever it is you’re trying to do.”
You’re almost out the door when the leader, who has puffed out her chest and taken a step forward  blurts out, “If you’re not going to help us, then you better stay out of our way.”
There are few people in this world that you’ve dreamt about punching. Oikawa has made the list a couple times, but that’s only when he’s being particularly obnoxious. Iwaizumi has too, usually when his hard headedness has conflicted with yours, but even then the situation is usually better within the next hour.
But this girl, oh this girl, she has made the top of your list in record time. And you highly doubt she’s coming off of it anytime soon. And now that you’ve gotten a good look at her, you’re starting to remember exactly where you’ve seen her before.
You raise an eyebrow at her intimidation, “Or what?”
(You have to pat your back for that one because you really sound like the scary third year you’ve always dreamt of being.)
She doesn’t falter in her misplaced confidence, a smile pulling at her lips, “If he’s not yours, then he’ll be one of ours soon enough. And I can promise you, every boyfriend I've ever had always dropped his girl best friends when I asked.”
“Uh huh,” you glance at your watch that shows there are only fifteen minutes left in lunch. Might as well start on your meal now.
You pull the backpack slung over your shoulder in front of you, unzipping the large pocket and pulling out a familiar container. The girls gasp when they see it.
It's pink and has a little cat design on the front of it. Very cute and very distinct. You pop open the top, grabbing the milk bread that lies inside with your left hand and holding the lid and the box with your right. The lid is tilted forward, granting all the girls clear viewing of the cursive ink that lies on it.
The name is clear and the handwriting incredibly recognizable. The leader’s mouth gapes open.
You take a bite out of the treat, a dramatic moan escaping your mouth. You point at the girl, “Mm. You made this right?”
She doesn’t answer. None of them do. They only stare with wide eyes.
“I remember seeing you give this to Iwa this morning. It’s really good. He's not a big fan of milk bread, so he’s been giving them to me but I’ve enjoyed every single one of them! Although I am getting tired of eating the same thing over and over. So, if you’re taking suggestions, try Agedashi Dōfu. It's Iwa’s favorite.”
You lick your lips to make the point clearer. A gentle reminder of your place and their lack of one in his life. They seem to get it.
“Right then. Bye ladies! This was fun! I’m sure Hajime will be thrilled to hear all about it.”
Iwaizumi finishes recounting the story with a childlike wonder, meeting the furrowed brows and agape mouths of his friends with a joyous smile. There’s an unmistakable twinkle of affection in his eyes, one that he must not even realize is there. But it's noticeable, and his friends recognize it.
It's the same look he always gets whenever he talks about you.
It was mean of you to humiliate those girls like that, he knows, but his smile when recounting the tale is more than indicative of his true feelings behind the action. He briefly lectured you about it after you told him, insisting that it was important to be nice to these poor girls who didn’t know any better, that you begrudgingly agreed to, but he thinks about it often. Thinks about it at practice, in the middle of class, and every time he sees you.
He didn’t know how he felt about it, but from the way it warmed his cheeks and filled his chest with a weird lightness, he knew he was ultimately appreciative of the action. Honored that you would stick up for him unapologetically and protect him from unassuming teenage girls.
It shouldn’t be much of a surprise. Were the roles reversed he would do the same for you in a heartbeat. But still, he thinks about it. A lot.
“I haven’t seen those girls since, but I have been getting a lot more Agedashi Dōfu, so I guess that’s a plus.” He shrugs his shoulders in nonchalance returning back to the contents of his locker but the remnants of a smile plays on his lips.
“Well, how ‘bout that?” Oikawa coos. He steps closer to Iwa, placing his hands on the ace’s shoulders and giving them a good natured shake.
“I think I have the perfect solution to your problem, Iwa-chan.”
**
“You want me chu do wha?” you ask, mouth full of milk bread as the boy in front of you conveniently avoids your eye contact.
It's the seventh container he’s handed you this week, and while your little incident has quickly diminished the amount he usually receives, there are still the occasional stray containers with the sweet that he instinctively hands to you.
This time it came in a purple container. No outlandish designs or stickers like the other ones, but there is a written poem on the top comparing his eyes to the dirt of the Miyagi mountains. You suppose that’s romantic, but your leniency only goes so far. Particularly when this poem has no clear rhyming pattern.
You’ve long since passed the point of guilt for eating all of the treats that were clearly not meant for you. Hajime was much too conflicted with the gifts to even consider smelling them, so it serves as a solution to the problem to just give it to you. He doesn’t have to worry about maliciously taking advantage of these girls and you get food.
Win-win.
And while you’re not that into milk bread (having eaten it almost everyday for the past couple of weeks), your consumption of it seems to give him some peace of mind. Out of sight, out of mind kind of thing. And really, that’s all you’ve ever wanted for him.
But this is going too far.
Swallowing the last piece of milk bread, you look up at the idiot from your place on the bench. He stands in front of you, hands shoved deep into his pockets and shuffling from foot to foot.
“You’re joking, right?”
This is a joke. It has to be. There’s no way the world would be this cruel to you.
His eyes remain averted, his thumb and index finger pinching the bridge of his nose as if it would wake him up from this endless nightmare, “Look, it’ll only be until I can get these girls to back off of me a little.”
“No.”
“Wha— (Y/N).” He breathes out, a twinge of desperation and pleading seeping into his voice as he finally looks into your eyes. He doesn’t know what he expects to see, but the pure and unadulterated seriousness is not one of them. He’s almost convinced to drop the subject altogether. Almost.
“Whose idea was this?” You practically growl out, closing the container and cleaning your surrounding area of any stray crumbs. You thrust your hand outward, shoving the container his way. He takes it from you without question.
“Does it matter?”
“Whose?”
“...Oikawa.”
Of course it was. “I’m gonna kill him.”
“(Y/N),” he says your name more forcefully. It’s the same tone he uses with Oikawa when he’s being whiny. It's enough of a bite to have you stop rearranging your items for a brief moment, meeting his determined gaze with one of your own. He stares intently, eyes unwavering in their silent plea to make you understand.
That’s the worst part about it. He’s serious, and he’s confident that this is the only way to solve the problem that’s been plaguing him for the past three months.
If there's one thing you know about Iwaizumi Hajime, it’s that he’ll solve any problem on his plate and won’t stop until it's fixed. He’s responsible to a fault, refusing to burden others unless absolutely necessary. The fact that he’s viewing this to be the only solution and actually trying to persuade you is indicative enough of how desperate he is.
Even more so indicative of how truly fucked you are, considering you’ve already made a decision before he even explains further.
Damn him and that hard head of his.
Damn Oikawa for knowing what he does and still dragging you into this mess. No doubt he was thoroughly enjoying this.
“Will you please be my girlfriend?”
Damn that student council and their stupid fundraiser for getting Iwaizumi Hajime, the boy you’ve been best friends with since you were ten and had a crush on since you were thirteen, to ask you to be his fake girlfriend in order to thwart off hordes of fangirls.
Damn you for already having an answer before you can even think twice.
Iwaizumi Hajime was hand sculpted by the gods, and they were all laughing at your expense now.
end notes: whoop there it is. let me know what you all think! should i keep going? should i say fuck a degree and major in iwazumi hajime? idk man im about to.

[Part 1] [Part 2] [Part 3]
The chime was heard and they let out a sob, a panicked look gracing their face. Unintentionally letting out a string of "no". Tetsurou's face fell as he stared up at them. " No? I don't- I don't understand? What's wrong? Is it.. Is it my uncle's politics? Your family? Those things aren't important, (y/n)." His voice was soft as he stood and put his arms on their shoulders. "What's important is our love for each other. With this, we can conquer anything."
Tears continued to stream down their face as he talked, the dagger shaking in their hands behind them. "I do love you, Tetsu."
He kissed them softly and hugged them, resting his face in the crook of their neck as the hand with the dagger shakily raised towards his upper back. As they watched, unable to stop their own body, all of their memories of the curse flooded in. Their stepbrothers manipulating them, the accidental incidents, and every other traumatic memory that came with this god forsaken curse. Their hand continued to shake, harder than before as they sobbed, the dagger getting closer.
"I will no longer be obedient..." They mumbled before yelling it out. "YOU WILL NO LONGER BE OBEDIENT." And in one fell swoop, they let go of the dagger right as Tetsu saw it with wide eyes. A loud clatter sounded as it hit the stone. They collapsed in complete relief as Tetsurou continued to stare in disbelief. He took a step back, and then several more.
"I'm free... I did it... I'm finally free..."
"You... You tried to kill me."
Right on que, Kei walked in, followed by Tadashi. "Guards! Take them away."
"No. Wait, no, Tetsu. Tetsu please, I didn't-" They continued to beg as they were picked up and forcefully removed from the Hall of mirrors before being thrown into a dungeon.
----⭐----
"You realize that they'll be sentenced to death immediately, yes?" Kei asked Tetsurou.
"I don't understand... Maybe I should talk to them." He spoke in a quiet voice, going to walk out of the room.
"No!" The blonde cleared his throat. "No, you're not allowed down there."
Tadashi spoke up. "Your Highnesss, Your uncle didn't want to sscare you but the ssecret police informed us of a posssible... uprissing. Thosse... ogress in the foresst, were after you."
"They were obviously part of the scheme," Kei continued. "The ogres never planned to hurt them. They were just toying with your emotions, Tetsu. They wanted to get close to you so they could commit the crime themselves."
"I don't believe it."
"Well, it does seem pretty unbelievable, but it is undeniably the truth. Let me worry about this, yes? Just worry about your coronation tomorrow." Kei pet his shoulder and left.

"Sso, yknow how I've been working with the red guard? Why not call it in now and take over their entire kingdom asss planned?" Tadashi hums.
"We need to get rid of the prince first, Tadashi. Though... I might have an idea for that matter." They looked at each other, a sick sense of glee filled their voices as the laughed.
----🍀----
Shoyo spoke to a group of elves and two giants as they planned to infiltrate the castle, only to hear a familiar voice. Searching, He found Ryuunosuke in a trash can. He managed to let Shoyo know about the trouble (y/n) was in before being interrupted by ogres. Luckily for them, the ogres joined their cause. The group searched the dungeons after taking out the only guard that was on duty.
(Y/n) heard voices. One voice stuck out so much that they decided to push their luck. "Shoyo???"
"(Y/n)!" They found each other and Shoyo helped (y/n) out of their cell. (Y/n) caught everyone up and together they discovered that Kei had poisoned the crown that Tetsurou was set to wear during his coronation.
--------
The coronation began and Kei proudly spoke. "People of Lamia, today is a very special day in the kingdom. Today, you're here to witness the crowning of a king."
Tetsu walked out looking just as miserable as he did the previous night, somehow managing to tune out the piercing screams of his fanclub.
From a door Shoyo could be seen poking his head out, followed by (y/n), and then an ogre. They scouted the guards before looking to the ogre for help.
Back during the ceremony, Kei ordered for the crown to be brought in and a child brought it in on a pillow. As Tetsu was in the process of being crowned, Kei and Tadashi waited in anticipation only for the entire ceremony to be disturbed by none other than (Y/n). They forced the doors open and walked into the room with all of elves, giants, and ogres backing them up.
"DROP THE CROWN."
The crowd gasped and turned to stare at the intruder in shock.
Tetsu whispers their name in shock at the same time Kei demanded that they be caught. All hell broke loose. Ogres were bashing in knights's Armor, Giants were swatting away guards, and at some point Tadashi even pushed a button that made the red guards appear. The moment they did, They were given orders to kill the intruders and anyone that got in their way.
Tetsu tossed (Y/n) a sword and swung via rope towards them. "I can't believe I'm saving you after you tried to kill me."
"I didn't try to kill you!" They defended.
A guard appeared and Tetsu immediately stood in front of them, point the sword and demanding they stay out of it. Another guard appeared and both Tetsurou and (Y/n) fought them off side by side.
"What so the dagger that was about to go in my back was an early wedding present?" He asked, still fighting the guard.
"Okay, maybe I did try to kill you. But it wasn't me!" They both flipped the two guards on their backs.
"What?"
"Okay, maybe it was me, but it wasn't my fault!" They ducked as another guard ran at them.
As their fight went on, Kiyoko continuously tried to turn Ryuu back into a human. She failed more than once, but eventually, she did it.
(Y/n) explained their curse and then Kei's plan to murder him.
"...Kei's trying to kill me?"
"Yes, One moment-" They paused to beat the shit out of one of the guards due to pure unadulterated frustration. When they calmed back down they led Tetsu away. "There's one more thing. He killed your father."
"What? That's not....no.... That can't be right."
"No shit it's not true. Who are you going to believe, Tetsu? This lying little fling of yours or the man who raised you?" Kei said with a false softness in his voice. As this happened, a snake could be seen, fully preparing to bite. It wasn't successful, as (Y/n) stomped on it's body the moment they noticed it and kicked them away.
A moment of silence before "He tried to kill Tetsu!" Was cried out and suddenly Tadashi had a mob of very pissy fangirls on his ass.
Tetsurou turned towards Kei with the most unamused look. "Well that answers that question."
"You vile child." Kei hissed at (y/n). "I should've gotten rid of you when I had the chance."
"You almost destroyed the kingdom! You killed my Dad, your own BROTHER! How could you??" Tetsu stared at Kei, expecting answers.
"I wanted something and he was in my way. So I got rid of him," By this point, they had a crowd watching them. "He wasn't fit to wear the crown and neither are you." He seethed before placing the poisoned crown on his head. He immediately regretted the decision as he forced out a single "Fuck." before collapsing.
"You saved my life." Tetsu grinned at them.
"And now we're even." They grinned back at him.
A shout was heard from none other that Tooru himself as he and Tobio ran up. "(Y/n) Stop! I'm commanding you to stop!!"
(Y/n) turned at looked at Tooru, walked over to him and snatched their mother's necklace back. "Wanna bet?"
Tooru had the nerve to look offended.
"Marry me?" Tetsu asked them for the second time.
"That, I can do." They smiled and kissed him softly.

Akihiko Sanada dating hcs
Tumblr media
(A/N: My first post on Tumblr, starting off with best boy! Hopefully this is good enough for a first post!)
- Character: Akihiko Sanada
-- Fandom: Persona (3)
--- Gender: Neutral (A little bit more feminine, but anyone can still read!)
---- Includes 13 seperate lines for if you have a persona.
----- Spoilers: Yes (Pass by if you don't want to see spoilers!)
----------------------------------------------------------
• Akihiko and you probably met at school, same class (or if you're younger) maybe just passing by the halls.
You not being in his fanclub was a relief to him, finally not some weird fangirl, he wished he wasn't bombarded by a group of girls and could be a normal high school student, and you made him feel that way.
He could hang out with you and not feel awkward, could actually do activities with someone not swooning over him (well, not immediately).
When you do actually start dating, I feel like he'd be the one actually confessing it, probably like the p3p confession, he wouldn't exactly do it in the most romantic way.
If you confess, he'd probably pull you straight into a kiss, a gentle one, he has this huge though soft smile on his face.
He looks like a dork.
"Y/N- I've- felt this way around you.. I think it may be love.."
He would probably take you to Hagakure's ramen shop after he gets done training, sometimes even treating you.
This man would treat you right, hang out with you and buy you things. Ultimate ladies's man. Well- that is if he was actually good at flirting.
This man is also horrible at flirting, awful.
"Uh- the sunset is almost as pretty as your- smile-??"
Actually he's pretty cheesy.
Whether that's cute to you or not is your choice.
Finding it funny and joking about it would make him feel comfortable flirting, him liking to see you laugh, he hasn't been able to do that to much people.
Actually thinking it's cute would fluster the heck out of this boxer champion, him? Being cute? You must have the wrong person, right?
Call him cute, he'll essentially break down, well- him trying to hide it.
He wouldn't try to look flustered, you started dating him because of his strength, yeah, most definitely, just look cool.
Although he would be horrible at trying to hide it, stuttering a bit on his words, and just shutting down quiet style, hiding his face subtly.
You tease him about it? Even more flustered. He'd say things like "Shut up Y/n-" or just telling you to stop. (Well, I mean the joking manner.)
You'd only stop when he'd literally offer you food to stop.
So now y'all asses at Wild-duck Burger, Akihiko ready to cough up some money.
If it wasn't obvious, Akihiko likes giving you gifts, his love language would be gift giving... Well if it wasn't for quality time.
He loves spending time with you! Jogging especially, although it doesn't have to be anything active, it could be baking, or knitting for all he cares. Well- maybe not knitting, he doesn't seem like the kind of person who'd like knitting.
I'm sure one time he took you to train with him.
If you enjoyed it, cool! Something else to do that you both enjoy.
Though I'm guessing you wouldn't, and in that case, he understands, he'd enjoy coming home from training to see you sitting down or laying on the bed, cuddling with you.
"You're always so cold in bed.. do you wait for me or-?"
He'd probably play with your hair a lot, long or short.
You'd probably go to some of his boxing events, and he gets really happy when you do. Secretly trying better to impress you.
He wouldn't flat out say in the ring that he was trying for you, but later in private he probably would, although kinda bluntly.
"I tried to show off for you y'know?"
After all the boxing matches, you'd be the one to patch him up most likely. Your pretty much a makeshift doctor in the comfort of Akihiko's room.
Speaking of Akihiko's room, you two sleep in there most of the time, though you give it your own touch.
There's all the times your boyfriend won boxing matches, and there's one right near the middle of you winning a spelling bee, or the winner of a 2nd grade art contest.
"I think any accomplishment is good enough!"
"Aki I won that 10 years ago!"
Also of course you're allowed to call him Aki, he finds the name cute, the faintest little blush in his cheeks whenever it's said. (he denies it though)
Hope you don't mind the constant smell of protein while sleeping, he most of the time has 2 whole buckets worth of it at all times in the corner of his room.
He offers you some everytime you eat together, saying it's helpful for if you'd wanted to jog afterwards.
declines everytime.
~It is now angst time~ (Final spoiler ahead warning)
You remind him a lot of Mika.
You know about his past, about Mika. You try to comfort him about it when he gets sad over it.
You knew Shinjiro because of Akihiko, you knew they were great friends, they treated each other like brothers.
So obviously, he didn't take his death very well, or at all.
You were the only one to see him cry, he was in his room sad the entire day. You convinced him to open the door, and you immediately hugged him.
He was devastated, and just started crying on your shoulder. He didn't fight them back or anything. You patted his back and brought him to his bed, and laid down with him.
He thanks you so much for that, saying when he gets better he'll make it up to you. If you try to protest, he'll just kiss you and shake his head.
So you'll eventually wore down and accept.
He promises he'll protect you, if it's the last thing he does. He can't lose 3 people.
~If you have a persona~
Obviously you'd join S.E.E.S. and honestly, Aki is all for it, who wouldn't wanna see their partner kick ass?
Just more time to train together?
At Dark Hour you're suddenly woke up by Akihiko every night.
"Aki it's 13 at night-"
"C'mon! Can't we can get a little training in at least-?"
In Tartarus, although not noticable, Aki does try to protect you if you're ever in critical health.
He'll purposefully make Polydeuces keep Dia just in case you may need a heal.
Yukari and Ken wondering why they can't just heal you.
If one of you is sick or tired, the other won't go to Tartarus, simple as that.
You'll stay at the dormitory and help the other get some rest, laying down with the other and singing lullabies to the other.
Akihiko will offer soup, which if Shinjiro is alive, he'll cook
Though if he isn't, Aki will just try to make it instead, it's always better than you'd thought it would be.
"Have a great night Y/N."
----------------------------------------------------------
A/N: I am finished!!! I hope it was alright for my first headcanons.
✿ Have a great day!! *.✧

The Duck Archer Returns
With two identical faces staring at each other, the words “to be continued” appeared on the corner of the screen and the video was paused. Amongst the big crowd of eight people, just one of them applauded.
“What?? I’d never see that coming,” Launchpad said while clapping.
Della arched an eyebrow, “Wait, haven’t you seem this episode?”
“Seventy nine times, but never in a parking lot.”
Donald just rolled his bored eyes, trying and failing to distract himself with his phone, “Everything about this is stupid.”
Della crossed her arms at her twin.
She agreed that coming to a coach store opening just to see a retired actress from an old show for the thousandth was weird, not to say obsessive. But that made Launchpad happy, and he had got her hooked on Quiverwing Quack too, so Della was happy to join him today. Beside, with Christine Starling there, she knew LP would need help.
Donald, by other hand, had never joined the QW fanclub.
“Why did you ever come then?” she asked.
“Because Uncle Huey thinks I need sunlight and I had nothing else to do,” the boy shrugged, not regreating his words or caring about his sister hostility.
It was Della’s turn to roll her eyes.
“Sadly, our beloved show, Quiverwing Quack, was cancelled before we could end this story,” mourned the elder actress Christine Starling, a duck with orange hair and still yellow feathers, on a mic. “But there’s no end on the savings at Siesta Rick’s sofa fiesta!”
Even distracted-on-his-phone Donald felt cringe at the woman’s forced tone of excitement. Christine just sighed and forced one more smile as she cut the red bow with giant scissors.
“I’ll be signing autographs for one and all! If... one and all would want it.”
Yeah, no. Even before the actress finished her sentence, most part of the crew was already leaving. Christine couldn’t hold back a huff,
“Bunch of ungrates,” she groaned to herself as she walked to the autograph’s table.
Just two people were waiting on the line before Launchpad entered it, the twins following him.
“You good?” Della asked a bit worried.
“Yep, totally cool,” Launchpad confirmed, a chill smile on his beak. “Thanks for being here.”
The little girl just smiled back.
“Ok, keep it together,” The woman right behind them, though, didn’t look that ready. Her tan feathers were ruffled and she couldn’t stop playing with her red hair. “‘Mrs. Starling, I am your biggest fan’’- No, no. ‘I have molded my entire life after yours’- No! ‘I... I WANT TO KEEP YOU IN A BIG JAR ON MY CLOSET!’”
Della could just wide her eyes and even Donald lifted his head from his phone at that phrase. What the duck-
““Heh,” Launchpad, by other hand, seemed sympathetic. “Calm down, buddy. Christina Starling’s just a regular person. Trust me, I’ve been in plenty of these signings, and someday I’ll finally meet her.”
The woman seemed suspicious, “Wait, if you’ve seem her so many times, how come you’ve never talked to her?”
“Next!” Christine sholted.
“Ohh...”
“Oh boy-”
“Gah!”
Tunk!
The woman could just blink at the now passed out Launchpad on the ground. She was worried both about him and about the distracted duck who the man crashed over.
With a unnamused expression, Della pointed at the boys on the ground and looked to the woman.
“This is why.”

Sunburn [Prince Zuko] 37
Tumblr media
Warnings: 10,000 words Rating: PG-13   Pairings: Zuko/OC
Sunburn Chapter M A S T E R L I S T My fan fiction M A S T E R L I S T
Aang was missing.
The Avatar had gone missing and Sozin’s comet was only two days away.
There really was no time to lose.
Aang’s friends looked for him everywhere, left, right, north and south of Ember Island but it seemed like he had vanished into thin air. Theories of Aang being kidnapped or running away crossed their minds, but he wouldn’t have abandoned his staff or Appa behind. No signs of struggle supported the theory that he had vanished.
Seeking for leadership the group turned to Zuko who – let’s be real – after years of practice was the most qualified at finding the Avatar. They had left Ember Island some time ago. Ominous clouds flickering with lightning approached from the distance.
“Where is he taking us?” Sokka asked Tsai as the rest of the group sat in Appa’s saddle while Zuko commanded the flying bison. The girl shrugged in return. He had that determined look on his face that she knew meant there was no stopping him now.
“Zuko, I don’t wanna tell you how to do your job,” Sokka began. “But why are we heading towards the Earth Kingdom?”
The group exchanged a look. “There’s no way Aang’s there.”
“Just trust me,” he replied mysteriously glancing over his shoulder.
The red head was presently leaning her head and arms crossed on the edge of the saddle. Her eyes fixed on the back of Zuko’s head. She was so proud of him. She had absolutely complete faith in that he would find Aang before the comet. It was then that she heard a loud coughing someone clearing their throat demanding her attention.
“What?” She rolled her eyes towards Sokka rudely.
“So, you two are back. For good?” He poked nosily. An evil grin on his face as he crossed his arms over his chest eyes narrowing mischievously. She was about to respond when Sokka raised his hand.
“You know what- I don’t want to know. Don’t say it.”
The edge of her eye twitched slightly. There wasnoway.
“What?” She deadpanned.
“No, no.” He said jokingly. “Don’t say it.” He repeated his vile grin stretching further.
“SOKKA I’M GOING TO KILL YOU!” She lunged at him grabbing him by the shirt and violently shaking him. Even her brother wasn’t able to hold her back. “YOU SAW US?!” She felt so violated having been caught in such an intimate and PRIVATE moment.
“You two were being so loud! I heard a loud clatter went to check. Saw you two cleaningthe floor.”
Her face resembled more of a beet now. Ughhh how embarrassing. The group couldn’t help but laugh at her mortified expression. Flustered an irritated she turned around and hopped over the saddle and slid down to Appa’s large head bumping into Zuko’s side.
There was loud giggling and sniggering in the back to which she shot a deathly glare at.
“So, where are we going?” She chirped with a smile. He looked at her from the corner of his eye and couldn’t help but smile a little.
“You’ll see.” He responded in an ominous tone.
xxx
Back at the Earth Kingdom, the group approached a familiar looking tavern.
“Wait-“Tsai paused as she stood outside of the familiar building. “Of course!” She slapped her forehead as it hit her now, it made sense for them to come here.
“Now you know why we’re here?” He asked. “Oh! You guys are going to love this!” She said excitedly turning to talk to the group as they walked into the seedy tavern. They all exchanged a confused look. The familiar stench of spilled booze sweat and probably pissed wafted through the air still lingering in the tavern after all this time.
“And what’s there to love about a seedy Earth Kingdom tavern now?” Katara asked eyeing the tavern with a slightly horrified expression.
“June,” Zuko and Tsai said in unison. He pointed a finger across the tavern to the onyx haired woman that was cooly seating down beating a man down with only a kick while enjoying a cup of tea.
“Oh yeah that weird bounty hunter with the giant mole.” Sokka said at the memory of meeting the bounty hunter.
“Mole?” Katara asked. “Her skin is flawless.”
June stood up avoiding an incoming fist ducking and gracefully taking down a man without spilling a single drop of her steaming tea.
“No, she has this giant mole creature that she rides around on.” Sokka continued explaining.
“The Shirshu.” Zuko stated. “It’s the only animal that can track Aang’s scent anywhere in the world. It’s the one shot we have of finding him.” Tsai explained. “Wouldn’t recommend riding in the back of one.” She bellyached remembering the motion sickness stomachache she got that first and last time she rode the beast with Zuko and Iroh.
They all witnessed as June cooly threw her drink up in the air flipped a man on his back and slammed him over a table without breaking a sweat.
“I don’t know who this June lady is, but I like her!” Toph beamed with a wide grin officially joining the June Fanclub.
The group watched as June kicked an empty seat away from a table and took a seat continuing to calmly sip on her tea.
"I remember she helped you attack us!" Sokka said, glancing at Zuko and Tsai accusingly.
"Yep. Back in the good old days." Zuko deadpanned and began walking forward towards June. Tsai was already fangirling at the bounty hunter’s side.
"Oh great," June drawled out sarcastically with zero enthusiasm at the familiar sight of the Fire Nationers approaching her.
“Let me get that for you,” Tsai said politely taking the teacup and re-filling June’s cup. She simply rolled her eyes at the gesture. Turning her attention to Zuko who was standing next to her. "It's Prince Pouty and Fan Girl. Where's your creepy grandpa?"
"He's my Uncle." Zuko corrected her sharply. "And he's not here."
June’s eyes bounced between the two girls that stood on Zuko’s sides.
“Oh hon, you should’ve run.” June said to Tsai shaking her head before taking a sip of her tea. “So, which one of you two is the one with the daddy issues?” June asked her eyes bouncing between both Katara and Tsai. Both girl’s eyes went wide with angry expressions on their faces. Sokka held Katara back. Zuko held the Tsai back while her brother sniggered behind.
“Good to see you worked things out with your girlfriend.” June added with a small smirk before taking another sip of her tea. “Hope I get a wedding invite.”
“Nobodyis getting married!” Tsai protested blushing brightly basically heaving after the double shot kill to her ego. A similar expression on Zuko’s face.
June waved her hand dismissively at them. "Okay, okay, sheesh. I was just teasing…” She took a sip from her beverage. “So, what do you want?"
"I need your help finding the Avatar."
"Hmph." She scoffed and raised her cup to her mouth, "Doesn't sound too fun."
"Does the end of the world sound like more fun?" Zuko demanded stepping forward with a scowl.
xxx
"Nyla." June cooed as she walked towards the shirshu, holding a fresh piece of meat in the air and shaking it enticingly. The shirshu begun salivating greedily at the scent of the raw meat. June tossed the steak up in the air and Nyla caught it eagerly, chewing it loudly. Smiling, June walked up to Nyla and petted its snout, "Who's my little, hmm, Snuffly-Wuffly."
Nyla grunted and jerked his head up, its toxin-coated tongue lashing out and forcing June to step back holding its snout down in a lock.
"Okay, who's got something with the Avatar's scent on it?"
“I have Aang’s staff!” Katara called from the top of Appa’s saddle.
"That'll work." June said, taking the staff from Katara and holding it in front of the shirshu’s nose. Nyla sniffed the glider for a moment gathering its scent then lifted his head and sniffed the air. She began walking around in circles around the group and the its master.
The shirshu walked back towards June and lowered its snout to the ground before laying down and covering its snout with its paws quietly growling as it gently rubbed it.
The group eyed the creature with a puzzling look.
"Well what does that mean?" Zuko asked crossing his arms.
"It means your friend's gone." June replied matter-of-factly, kneeling beside her pet scratching behind its ears in an attempt to comfort the beast.
"We know he's gone." Toph said dryly placing her hands on her hips. "That's why we're trying to find him." She said matter of factly.
"No, I mean he's gonegone." June clarified standing up and facing the group. "He doesn't exist."
The Avatar gang all exchanged concerned looks. Grim expressions on all of their serious faces.
“But that’s impossible.” Mecha cried out in disbelief.
"What do you mean Aang doesn't exist?" Sokka asked in exasperation. There was some hesitation on his voice "Do you mean he's...you know, dead?" He asked tentatively.
"No, we could find him if he was dead. It's a real head-scratcher." June said, shrugging.
"Helpful.Realhelpful." Toph scowled withdrawing her application from the June fanclub.
“So, what are we going to do now?” Tsai asked suddenly feeling that stressful sensation knot in her back shoulder’s again.
“Guess we’ll just have to off the Fire Lord ourselves,” Sokka said dropping his arms to the side.
“What are you nuts?” She looked at him with a bewildered expression. “What?” He shrugged his arms up. “It might even be easier this way since you’re not opposed to you know- taking care of him?”
“Ha!” She couldn’t help but laugh. “Really funny Sokka. Did you guys hear that?”
She looked up and to her surprise saw that nobody was laughing. Everyone was staring at her with a dead serious expression. She felt the blood drain from her face. “Why are you all staring at me like that?”
“You have been the only one to ever strike him and live to tell the tale.” Katara said quietly. “And the fire won’t be an issue.” Suki added.
“Which is a huge advantage.”  Sokka backed up her statement. “We’ll have your back.” Her brother said with a smile.
She looked at them with a horrified look on her face. This wasn’t her destiny. “No, you guys,” She shook her head feebly. “There has to be another way. If Aang’s not in the world- maybe- just maybe- what if he went into the Spirit World. Corporally in body and spirit with Momo?”
“Is that even possible?” Katara asked.
The group shared all shared a shrug giving each other puzzling looks.
“I’ve never connected to the Spirit World, but maybe I could try it? Find Aang bring him back?” She suggested.
“Well if you’re going to do it, you best do it fast,” her brother let out a low whistle and shook his head. “If you don’t want to off the Fire Lord thenI will!”
She turned to look at Zuko with a pleading look in her eyes. There had to be somebody else.
“Well,” June mused arching her eyebrows at the group. “It’s been real.” She said raising her hand up dismissively. Turning to mount her beast. “See ya.”
"Wait." Zuko called out, walking to the front of the group. "I have another idea. There's only one other person in this world who can help us face the Fire Lord." He faced June and held his hand out for her to wait, "I'll be right back with a smell sample."
They all eyed him curiously as he quickly climbed into Appa’s saddle and climbed back down holding a smelly sandal. The stench immediately attracting several flies which started buzzing around it.
"You saved your uncle's sweaty sandal? Ugh." Sokka asked in disbelief, pinching his nose and cringing at the strong scent. Suki, Mecha and Katara’s expressions of disgust mirrored Sokka’s.
“Iroh does have a terribly strong body odor,” Tsai sighed.
"I think it's kind of sweet." Toph retorted with a sincere smile crossing her arms.
June was taken aback and gasped when Nyla suddenly lunged forward sniffing the sandal that Zuko was holding. She gasped in surprise and held on tightly to the shirshu’s reins as Nyla ducked furiously sniffing Iroh’s sandal.
"Let's do this." June said determinedly and tugged on Nyla’s reins as her beast ran madly desperately trying to find its target vanishing into the dark forest.
“Hey! Wait up!” Zuko shouted. The group quickly ran towards Appa and climbed on the flying bison ready to follow June. Appa flying into the air hot on Nyla’s trail.
The beast ran all through the night until dawn with Appa soaring after it. The teens all took turns between commanding Appa and sleeping. Nobody said much as they continued in their pursuit. Solemn expressions on everybody’s faces as the grim reality of Sozin’s comet arriving tomorrow dawned on them.
“Hey,” Zuko who was wide awake suddenly whispered to Tsai who was dazing off head on his shoulder. “Hm?” She grumbled sleepily. Toph was asleep on the other side of the saddle, Mecha a little next to her, Suki and Sokka in a similar position to them on the other side of the saddle.
“Do you remember the last time we rode the shirshu?” He said against her ear careful not to wake anybody else. “Don’t remind me.” She groaned at the unpleasant memory still with her eyes closed hugging his arm.
“Where…” He let out a small chuckle. “Where you holding on to me because you were sick or because of another reason?”
She opened her eyes suddenly feeling more awake than asleep and glared at him the slightest of smiles growing on her face.
“If I remember correctly,” She said removing her arms from his and slightly inching away from him. “Somebodywould’ve preferred if I fell off the shirshu that day.” She teased remembering how adamant he had been to her letting him go that day. He let out a humorous huff and wrapped both of his arms around again her pulling her close to him.
Both enjoyed the short-lived moment before reality hit both of them.
“Zuko, what are we going to do?” She asked looking at him with a worried expression. “What if we don’t find your Uncle?”
He wanted to insist that they would find him, that everything was going to be okay in the end, but there was so much uncertainty and ambiguity around them with the comet arriving in less than a day.
“We’ll figure it out.” He took her face in his hands. “We always do.” He hugged her.
“Zuko, if we don’t find Aang… What’s going to happen?” She held on to him tightly. Fear in her voice. Unsure of what to say he simply stroked the back of her head. “I’m going to try and enter the Spirit World tonight. See if I can find Aang.”
“We’ll find them.” He repeatedly soothingly.
Moments later they arrived to their destination. It was still nightfall. Great now an entire day had been wasted trying to find Iroh.
Days until the end of the world: 1. Nyla stopped on a gaping area of the outer wall of Ba Sing Se which divided it from the rest of the Earth Kingdom. The beast dug and pawed at the wall indicating that Iroh lay somewhere beyond it.
“We’re going to Ba Sing Se?” Sokka asked as Appa landed near the twitching shirshu.
"You uncle's somewhere beyond the wall." June stated as the Nyla stopped scratching the ground. "Nyla's getting twitch so he can't be too far." She looked up at the group. "Good luck." She said sincerely before pulling on the reins and riding away into the far away hills.
"It's been a long day. Let's camp and start our search again at dawn."
Xxx
It had all happened so fast.
"Wake up, you guys!" Toph called out in the middle of the night waking everyone only to witness a ring of fire surrounding them.
“There!” Toph shouted to an opening in the wall. There was no time to ask questions. No time to stop and look around and wonder what the hell was happening. There was no room to run to, no time to escape as four elderly men wearing fine robes colored in shades of blue and white stepped forward.
Master Piandao, Jeong Jeong, Master Pakku and King Bumi. All of them people whom the Fire Nationers had never met before.
"Well, look who's here!" Bumi exclaimed as he threw his arms out from under his robe, snorting and laughing in a maniacal fashion.
Katara sighed in relief as a a wide smile grew on her and her brother’s face. The rest of the group starred at them perplexed.
"Uh... What's going on?" Toph asked in confusion, "We're surrounded by old people."
"Not just any old people. These are great masters and friends of ours." Katara explained excitedly as she walked towards the four men and stopped in front of Pakku, bowing respectfully to her former master.
"So wait, how do you all know each other?" Mecha asked after the touching the Water Tribe sibling’s touching reunion with their new grandfather. He pointed at the four men in confusion.
"All old people know each other." Bumi joked and Piandao smiled at the boy from the colonies. The old king snorted and laughed as he asked. "Don't you know that?" He said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“You must be Sencha’s” One of them spoke eyeing the scarred teen before him.
Tsai pushed forward becoming entranced by the mentioning of her grandfather. Coming all the way to the front facing the elders. “You knew our grandpa?”
“Weren’t you listening Apple Hair? All old people know each other.” Bumi cackled once again finishing off with a snort.
“Yes, Sun Spirit.” Piandao responded calmly addressing the spirit that lived in her. She blinked twice taken aback by the knowledge the masters held.
"We're all part of the same ancient secret society." Piandao explained when his friend didn't continue. "A group that transcends the division of the four nations. Your grandfather was a part of our group as well. I lament his passing."
“Of course!” She said and dug into her her pocket to fish out the White Lotus Pai Sho piece that Iroh had given to her what seemed to be ages ago. Pai Sho is Afterall more than just a game.  “The Order of the White Lotus.” Both her and Zuko said in unison smiles of amazement on both of their faces.
"That's the one!" Bumi said comically bouncing in front of the other masters and raising a finger in the air,
"The White Lotus has always been about philosophy, and beauty, and truth." Jeong Jeong stated. "About a month ago, a call went out that we were needed for something important."
"It came from a Grand Lotus." Pakku said, taking over the anecdote from Jeong Jeong. He looked over at the Fire Nation’s former prince, "Your uncle, Iroh of the Fire Nation."
"Well that's who we're looking for." Toph said excitedly from behind Zuko.
"Then we will take you to him." Piandao said nodding his head slightly.
Tsai noticed how Zuko’s eyes softened at the mention of his uncle. They had finally found him. There was some hope after all.
"Wait! Someone's missing from your group. Someone very important." Bumi declared as he abruptly shoved the masters apart and walked towards the group. "Where's Momo!?"
"Uh..." Sokka cleared his throat, leaning as far back as he could when Bumi pressed his face against his, "He's gone. And so is Aang."
"Oh well, so long as they have each other, I'm sure we have nothing to worry about." Bumi stated calmly stepping back and patting his shoulder forcefully making Sokka bend forward. "Let's go!" Bumi cackled like a maniac as he slammed his fist against the ground making a tall stalagmite of rocks rise from the ground which propelled him over the wall of Ba Sing Se. The other masters shared an exasperated expression.
“Is he… Is he always like this?”

The group was being led down a rocky path that would lead to the Order of the White Lotus’ campgrounds. The group followed behind Bumi, Appa tailing behind them.
"So, Bumi," Sokka began as he walked carefully behind the king. "How did you end up escaping your imprisonment in Omashu?"
"Escape? I didn't escape. Everybody elseescaped!" Bumi exclaimed before throwing his arms into the air. "There I was, back in Omashu, waiting for justthe right moment. I didn't know what or when, but I knew I'd know it when I knew it."
Tsai topped in her tracks a obscure expression on her face. “You waited for the eclipse, didn’t you?” Her brother looked at her with a concerned look.
Bumi cackled and nodded rapidly, a maniacally grin on his face as he remembered how he took back his kingdom after being locked up in a metal box for months.
"Wow." Suki stared in amazement after Bumi had finished sharing his story. "You took back your whole city all by yourself!"
Bumi grinned proudly then glanced over his shoulder, "So what about you guys? Did you do anything interesting on the day of the eclipse?"
The group all exchanged a look.
"Nah." Zuko replied nonchalantly. “No, not really.” Sokka added. Mecha grimaced looking down at his scarred body. Tsai resisted the urge to face palm.
They approached a high hill and looked below from the incline to see dozens of small tents all pitched together at the bottom of rocky terrain. Odd dim lights illuminated parts of the camp. “Well, here we are! Welcome to old people camp.” Bumi said as he lowered a wall made of rock and waved his hand towards the camp.
The group stepped forward following behind the masters, but Zuko lingered behind his eyes scanning the crowd looking for any sign of his lost uncle.
"…Where? Where is he?" He asked stopping in his tracks.
Piandao, the swords master, stopped and placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. “Your uncle is in there, Prince Zuko.” He responded pointing to a large tent at the end of the campsite.
Zuko felt his stomach flipping with unease. His last memories of his betrayal to his uncle, the only man who had ever cared about him, still prodding him like a fresh wound. Part of him had been dreading this moment. He looked down in shame averting his eyes from the tent. He felt the sword master walk away. He stood alone in the camp soaking in the memory of the most dishonorable and treacherous thing he had ever done. Why would his uncle ever forgive him?
He wasn’t worthy of a single ounce of sympathy.
“Come on!” He felt a hand hold his. “Let’s go see Uncle Iroh!”
He looked up and saw the girl from the colonies standing before him beaming with excitement. She was dying to see Iroh. She turned guiding him towards the tent, yet he couldn’t bring his feet to move stopping just a couple of feet outside the tent.
“What’s wrong?” She turned. “Don’t you want to see your uncle?” She asked softly dropping his hand.
Maybe he wasn’t alone, but he was still undeserving.
Of everything.
After all his cruel father never missed a moment to remind him, he had been lucky to have ever been born. His own father had hideously scarred him when he had groveled for his forgiveness only as a thirteen-year-old boy. Why would his uncle be any different?
“What if he doesn’t want to see me?” Insecurity and fear pricked him. Again, he lowered his head, his hands dropping to his sides as he deflated.
“Why wouldn’t he want to see you?”
“Why would he?”
She remained silent. She wasn’t sure what she was waiting for but speaking felt wrong.
“My Uncle hates me, I know it.” He said with certainty. His eyes glued to the ground avoiding her prying worried ones. “He loved and supported me in every way he could, and I still turned against him. How can I even face him?"
She could’ve reassured him a thousand times that Iroh did not hate him. However, that wouldn’t have solved anything. She doubted if he would even believe her.
“I know you’re sorry and I think the most important part is that you’ve grown from your mistakes. Right?”
“I’m more sorry than I’ve ever been about anything in my life.”
“Then he’ll forgive you,” she stated. He looked up and saw her smiling sympathetically at him. “I know I did.”
He didn’t deserve his uncle or her.
She gave his arm one last squeeze while saying something about getting dinner. At this point he wasn’t listening. He clung to her hand, holding her in place.
“Thank you.” He said softly.
She left. He stood outside of his uncle’s tent wounds of regret and scars of shame holding him back. He stood outside with his head lowered, eyes glued to the ground like a coward.
He had to do it.
He let out a heavy sigh pausing in front of the tent flaps that were marked with the White Lotus symbol. It took courage he didn’t have to open the tent’s flap and step in.
"Uncle..."
Zuko was greeted by a familiar loud snoring as he stepped in and looked up. His uncle was heavily sleeping on the other sound of the tent. He couldn’t help but smile affectionately and walk further into the tent. He took a seat bending his knees underneath his body as he waited next to his uncle’s sleeping mat for him to awake.
He knelt with his head lowered listening to his uncle’s snores. Snores he never thought he would one day miss. It was pretty late; he didn’t think his uncle would wake up at this time of night. It was then that the snoring ceased. He raised his head slightly and his breath hitched in his throat when he realized his uncle awoke. He felt his chest swell with overwhelming emotion.
Iroh awoke when he felt a strong presence in the room. He sat up and stretched his aching muscles. Sensing the presence behind him, he turned slightly and from the corner of his eyes caught sight of a familiar face sitting behind him. He straightened up his back and remained silent.
Zuko felt his heart fall when his uncle kept his back turned to him. He swallowed the knot that had formed on his throat as he attempted to find the voice that he had lost.
“Uncle, I know you must have mixed feelings about seeing me.” He paused for a moment and closed his eyes fighting back the tears that had been welling in his eyes. His voice cracked with emotion as he continued. "But I want you to know, I'm so, so sorry, Uncle.” “I am so sorry and ashamed of what I did." He shook his head as the tear that brimmed in his eyes overflowed, sliding down his face. "I don't know how I can ever make it up to you, but I-"
He was cut off. He didn’t see his uncle turn and grab him by the sleeve yanking him forward for an embrace into his arms. He hugged him tightly. Tears slid down his face, the man couldn’t help but smile as he held his lost nephew in his arms.
“How can you forgive me so easily?" Zuko asked weakly as he returned the embrace. He was stunned by his uncle’s reaction. "I thought you would be furious with me."
"I was never angry with you.” Iroh explained his voice gentle. He brought his hand up to the back of his nephew’s head and hugged him tighter. "I was sad, because I was afraid, you'd lost your way."
Zuko closed his eyes and pressed his wet face against his uncle’s shoulder. “I did lose my way.” He murmured quietly; his words still weighted with shame.
Iroh removed himself from his nephew and held him at an arm’s length both of his hands on his shoulders as he looked at the man his nephew he had become with pride. “But you found it again…" He praised with a smile.  "And you did it by yourself. I am so happy you found your way here."
Both exchanged a smile. Iroh hugged him again and Zuko chuckled lightly. "It wasn't that hard, Uncle. You have a pretty strong scent."
Zuko didn’t know how long they embraced for.
“Midnight cup of tea?” The tent’s flap opened, and Tsai stopped dead in her tracks when she caught the deeply intimate scene between the two men. She didn’t want to interrupt such an important event. “Oh, uh- I’ll come back later,” she stammered awkwardly before retreating still holding the tray she was holding with tea and some bowls with dry noodles.
“Tsai!” Iroh greeted her cheerily happy to see the girl once again. He stood up. She looked around the room and placed the tray down on the closest table before embracing him “You did beautifully child.” “It’s so good to see you Iroh.” He hugged her back.
Zuko watched the interaction between the two still with watery eyes. This was his family now. The three of them were back together reunited.
“I hope my nephew didn’t bring you much trouble,” Iroh chuckled slightly. “Nothing I can’t handle,” she flashed him a cheesy grin. It was then that she got something out of her pocket. “Here,” she placed the White Lotus chip on his hand. “You’ll need this for the next time we play Pai Sho.” He couldn’t help but grin back.
Moments later the three sat on the carpet. Iroh enjoying a well brewed cup of lychee tea the two teens before him had their dinner. This meeting was nice, it felt extremely nostalgic, it was what the three of them had been missing.
“Iroh,” Tsai suddenly asked him. “What do you know about the Spirit World?
Iroh lowered his cup of tea and looked at her his lips drawn into a thin line.
“The Spirit World is a world filled with a vast range of immortal supernatural entities and more than often embody different aspects of life and nature.” He began. “I take it you’ve discovered your inner light. The truth about your spirit as being the one of light, fire and most important of all life. The Sun.”
She nodded. Both her eyes and Zuko’s looking at his uncle attentively.
“I’m going there tonight. To try and find Aang.”
Iroh stroked his beard seriously and closed his eyes for a second.
“It is extremely difficult for any human other than the Avatar, who is the bridge between these two worlds, to enter into the Spirit Realm. If you do it will require extreme concentration and you must be wary of your surrounding at all times. Remember, this is very important. There are good spirits yes, like the sun and the moon, but there are also dangerous ones. They will test and try and trick you Tsai.”
She lowered her head nodding in understanding.
“Iroh…” She began softly. “Why me? What is my purpose?”
“That I do not know the answer to.” He sighed.
Zuko placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. She raised her head nodding with a determined look on her face.
She had never done it but this time she had to. There was no excuse.
The trio finished their dinner and now Iroh and Zuko knelt on one side of the room. Tsai sat across them with two lit candles at her sides. Her legs were crossed under her body, eyes closed as she attempted the meditation, she had been practiced countless of times. She focused on positive emotions and on her breathing as she sought for some clarity.
“I’m glad you two made up, nephew.” Iroh whispered to Zuko. “How did you get her to forgive you? You know a woman’s heart is like glass, fragile but strong. Once damaged the-“
“I’m still in the room!” The girl snapped becoming a little flustered.
Iroh flashed her a nervous grin. Zuko face palmed embarrassed by his uncle. He would’ve never admitted it out loud, but he had missed this dearly.
“This isn’t working,” her deflated in defeat, her shoulders dropping as she slouched.
“Stand up straight.” Iroh said in a slightly stern tone. A tone that reminded Tsai of her over-bearing mother. She did as she told. “If you want to reach the Spirit World and maybefind the Avatar you have to do this.” He instructed. “You can’t give up.” Zuko added.
It was late. The three of them had to rest. The comet would arrive later today. She couldn’t keep them up like this. Regaining her focus, sitting up with her shoulders up and back straight. She inhaled a deep breath and awoke in a different world.
“W-Where did she go?!” Zuko shouted in panic rising to his feet walking over to where the girl had been standing a minute ago.
How had she vanished just like that?
“She succeeded. She’s in the Spirit World now.” Iroh said wisely. “When will she be back?” He asked frantically turning to face his uncle. Iroh shrugged lightly and raised his shoulders. “Soon, hopefully.”
Zuko was officially freaking out. How was he supposed to get any sleep with both Tsai and Aang missing when the comet would be arriving in just a couple of hours?
“So,”Iroh began. An impish grin stretching on his aged face. “How’d you get her to forgive you? Did you follow my advice?” He said letting out a coarse chuckle.
“UNCLE!” The flustered teen protested.

Tsai screamed uncontrollably as she free fell suddenly appearing in a night sky. She flailed her arms and legs, tears escaping her eyes due to the harsh wind that hurt them.
She braced for impact and landed on a large tree, then a branch and then ungracefully landed on the ground with a loud thud.
“Ugh…”She groaned painfully after being hit in the gut by spirits know how many branches and then slapping against the ground. It took her a moment to come to her feet and dust herself off. Immediately she shrunk as she looked at her terrifying surroundings. All of the trees that surrounded her in this forest had menacing faces that all seemed to look down on her.
“I can’t believe I actually made it to the Spirit World…” She said in awe, her voice trembling as she retreated. She played with her sun stone necklace anxiously.
“Hey! Watch it!” A man’s voice said.
She felt a chill run down her spine and slowly turned but didn’t see anyone. It seemed like she had bumped into a large mushroom that glowed in varying rainbow hues. She sighed hoping to ease her jumping nerves and lay her hands-on top of the mushroom using it to brace herself and take in a deep breath.
“I said- Watch it Red!” There it was that voice again. Looking down she realized it was the mushroom – speaking.
“Ah!!! Talking mushroom!” She leapt back falling on her behind crawling away from the mushroom. “Who do you think you are? Falling in-“ She wasn’t going to stick around and be scolded by a giant talking fungi. Screaming like a mad woman she ran away from the shroom shouting for the missing Avatar.
“Aang!!!” She shouted panic ringing through her voice. She did this for some time ducking at night birds that attacked her pulling on her clothes and her hair until she was simply walking exhausted. It seemed like she had been going around in circles. “Aang…” She called weakly now walking in circles.
“I’m pretty sure I’m walking around in circles,” She said out loud to herself. “That’s the same mushroom from earlier.”
“No, I’m not.” The mushroom spoke. She wasn’t fazed by it anymore.
She rolled her eyes irritated of this. She really didn’t have any more time to lose. Not that she knew how time moved in this realm. What would Iroh do? What would Zuko do? I mean he was the true master at finding the Avatar.
“Listen here fungus.” She said standing her ground. “I’m looking for a friend. He’s a boy about yei tall?” She pointed with her hand even though the mushroom did not have any eyes to see. “Bald? Has a blue arrow tattooed on his forehead?”
“Nope, haven’t seen him.” The shroom spoke back dismissively.
With hands on her waist she let out a frustrated sigh. She had already wasted enough time running in circles.
“I can help you with that cherub.” She heard a voice say. Again, she turned around looking for the source of this. This voice was nasal, shrill, it almost reminded her of Azula’s. It sent chills down her spine. It was then that she looked up and saw two massive yellow eyes staring down at her. The eyes closed and the massive creature fluttered down landing before her. The standing creature was larger than her and covered with dark fur. It’s two golden insects like eyes starred at her and it’s bat like wings remained sprawled out where two massive markings that resembled eyes seemed to be fixed on her. It was a batterfly. She knew that flutter bats, pollinating mammals, existed but this looked more to be a batterfly a hybrid of a bat and butterfly. It opened its small mouth the creature salivating as its fangs kept its mouth ajar. Uh-Oh… There was something about this creature that gave her a terrible feeling.
“I’ve been watching you.” The creature spoke.
“Who are you? Whatare you?” She asked raising her arms fearfully, stepping back defensively.
“Don’t be shy human.” The creature said advancing stretching out a wing to prevent her from escaping. She eyed the creature’s mouth with nervous unease.
“Think of me as a mere creature of the night. A silent observer. I have been watching you…” The creature cocked its head to the side still salivating. Something about this creature made her skin crawl. “I can help you. I saw your friend, this Aang… Bald, blue arrow, the Air Nomad, right?”
“Yeah!” She exclaimed excitedly. “That’s him!”
“Yes…” The batterfly drawled out slowly before slurping its own secretions. “I know just where he is. I’ll take you to him cherub. If you just get closer… Climb on my back. I’ll- yes – I’ll take you to him.”
She stepped back nervously looking up at the creature.
“You can just… Tell me where he is. Is that okay? I don’t want to be a bother-“ She inched back further and further until she once again bumped into the talking mushroom.
The batterfly became more agitated. It’s began slurping harder. Saliva soaking its front fur coat as it inched closer.
“Climb on my back. Come on. Just get closer- a little closer-“
Her eyes were frozen as she looked at the creature before her petrified. How did one fight a creature like this off? Her eyes darted around the space as she thought of an exit. “Closer!” Was the last thing she heard the creature hiss loudly. She raised her hands over her face crossing them in a defensive matter when she heard a loud hiss.
A bright light made her come to her senses. She saw the batterfly blinded by the light screech as it flew away hitting several trees and branches as it flew away. She stood in shock heaving with her heart on her throat. She guessed this is what Iroh had meant by saying they were dangerous spirits in the Spirit World.
She looked at her hands and realized she was glowing. Somehow, she had instinctually gone into the Sun State mode. She illuminated the room and noticed a translucent almost red string attached to her chest; her eyes followed the string which lead to-
“A lizard?”She deadpanned. She looked down and a couple of feet away from her stood what looked like a foot-tall red lizard with dragon features.
“Move your bum out of my face Red!”
“Oh, sorry,” She apologized to the talking mushroom and stepped away feeling rather foolish for a) apologizing to a talking mushroom b) did the creature even have a face? Shaking her head she returned her attention to the red lizard before her as the light around them dimmed until they were once again surrounding by darkness without the exception of the glowing mushroom.
“Are you stupid or just plain dumb?” It scolded. The way it spoke it reminded her of Sokka’s voice and tone.
“Excuse me?” She glared at the creature running out of patience. “I will notbe harassed by a talking mushroom, a- whatever that was and now insulted by a talking lizard.”
“Look who’s talking about harassment!” The mushroom below her spoke. This was officially insane. She heard the lizard continue to speak but wasn’t listening. “Watch it. Or I’ll step on you!” She threatened raising up a foot glaring down at the creature. She had had officially enough of the Spirit World ready to go back to reality any second now.
“Insolent girl!” The reptile fumed smoke coming out of its nostrils as it slowly grew larger and larger until its body snaked around her in a crescent moon shape. A dragon with scales the color of blood, massive wings, gleaming golden eyes beard and fur stood on all four legs before her. It’s voice now darker, more menacing as it snarled at her. “Out of all of my hosts you have been the biggest of headaches. Brass, impulsive, emotional, insecure- You are an absolute disgrace!”
It took her a moment to put two and two together. Surprised her jaw went slack and the petty insults went completely over her head at the surprise.
“Taiyo Shin,”She gasped. It was the Sun God. “It’s you.” Was all she could manage as she gawked at the massive dragon standing before her.
“What were you thinking? Everybodyknows never to trust the spirits of the night. It would’ve sucked you dry of your blood. Then again, I don’t think anyone would’ve missed you very much.” It scolded coldly glaring at her.
“Hey!” She protested. “It was my only chance at finding Aang. I had to do something.” She huffed. “Also - you and I need to talk.” She stepped forward with an accusing finger. Today would be the day that all of her questions were answered. There was no more time to waste.
“What do you want to know? And no- I do not know your place in the universe.” He let out a throaty chuckle looking at her with what looked like amusement.
She stood tall attempting to look down at the colossal creature. “Why me? And what do you mean I’m your host?” She looked at the spirit before her with large hopeful eyes.
The dragon looked down at her with an irritated look on his face and rested its head on a propped claw.
“You are familiar with our history. Eons ago dragons-“the spirit began dramatically. “Yeah, yeah, yeah- “She waved off dismissively. “Dragons were hunted, so you became human. I know. Whowas the first human that was your host?” She asked exasperatedly.
The dragon closed its eyes and smoke came out of its nostrils.
“The first was a man named Saisho, the rest are all a blur and then there’s you. Also, the first to come to the Spirit World.” The dragon said after a moment. “We came to humans and hid in plain sight amongst the same people that were hunting us. I have been passed from host to host for some generations now. I have witnessed their lives. Seen their joys, felt their pains. The reason we came to be one is unknown to me. I am simply passed from one host to the next. All hosts select their successors. Just as you will one day when the sun sets on your life.”
She listened attentively nodding her head slightly at everything the spirit had to say.
“So..” she began connecting all the dots. “Someone, chose me?” The dragon nodded. “And I will have to do the same- when I die?”
“No,” the dragon said flatly. “You’re not like your friend the Moon Spirit. You are as strong as all of the others that have come before you, you don’t need to leech of my life like your friend did to Tui.” He spoke referring to the Moon Spirit by name. “You are free to choose if you want this life, but remember…”
The dragon began rounding around her snaking her inside of a smaller and smaller circle. “We are fire, energy, and life.”
It stopped next to her resting its monstrous snout next to her. She raised a hand and slowly placed it on its scaly skin taking in the rough texture underneath her fingertips and brushing its golden beard. “Our purpose is to bring life as well as destruction to the worlds and like all things they must be balanced…”
She nodded slowly, finally understanding. “And you’ve been trapped inside humans this whole time?”
“By choice,” the dragon grumbled. “Now, get on my head. I’ve recon we’re running out of time and you still have to find your friend the Avatar.”
She nodded and struggled to climb on the dragon’s large head. It took her a moment to sit at the very front and grab onto both of its massive horns tightly.
“What’s your name anyways? You know, you can come out now right? Dragons are safe, they live in hiding but they are safe. You can live in the Sun Warrior Island, be happy, be with your kind. You know?”
“Call me Huo,” It spoke after a moment. “And I doubt it’d be as interesting.”
Huo didn’t give her a warning before stretching out its wings and lifting up in the skies which were breaking in dawn. She ducked and let out a breathless gasp as the dragon flew. They flew for some time passing glowing clouds as the searched from island to island.
“There,” Huo spoke and she could feel its body rumble when the dragon spoke. She held on tighter as it dove thru the skies to the island below. Landing on a small clearing in the middle of a jungle forest. The ground trembled at the impact.
Aang was sleeping on a small clearing above what appeared to be some ruins. Momo screeched loudly and hid behind Aang who groggily awoke eyes wide at the massive red beast before him. Aang raised a hand ready to bend at the dragon.
“Aang stop!” He heard a familiar voice shout.
The Avatar lowered his hand when he heard her voice. The dragon lowered its head and Tsai stepped down jumping off the side carelessly.
“Aang! I can’t believe I found you!”
They ran towards each other and embraced. Momo chirped and jumped on Aang’s head and then on her shoulder. It was good to see Momo too.
“Aang, I’ve found you. We have to go back!” She said letting go. “We don’t have time. Sozin’s Comet should be here today. I’ll-I’ll help you defeat the Fire Lord. There has to be something we can do. Maybe I can stop the Sun for just a moment?”
“Like all your other ones, that one too, is a terrible idea,” a throaty voice behind her spoke letting out some flames. Aang looked at the dragon behind her with his eyes wide. “Oh, this is Huo. He’s the actual Spirit of the Sun. He lives inside me.” She said casually motioning over her shoulder. After everything she had seen and lived in the past year and more, nothing seemed to surprise her anymore.
“It’s too dangerous Tsai. One lightning hit- We can’t lose you.”
She looked at him hard. Frowning a little. Both of her hands clenched as exasperated balled fists reflected her frustration.
“Doesn’t matter Aang. We’re out of time. I rather be in the real world than in the Spirit World. This place gives me the creeps.” She shrugged looking at her surroundings with unease.
“No,” Aang said stubbornly. “There has to be another way! I feel like there’s more to know. This feels undone.”
“So, you’re not coming back?” She said throwing her arms up in the air angry.
“Go back Tsai. I will return soon. I’m not running away from this.” He reassured her with a serious expression.
She sighed and lowered her head shaking it. She couldn’t believe this. This entire trip to the spiritual world had been for nothing. “Fine,” she sighed in defeat.
“What should I tell the others?” She said returning to climb on Huo’s head.
“That I’ll be back.” Aang said. Momo now sitting on his shoulder. She nodded and rolled her eyes at his response. “Oh,” Aang said as the dragon flapped its large wings getting ready to lift off. “Can you tell Katara than I love her?”
“You can tell her yourself!” She shot him an irritated look. “Let’s go!” She said to the dragon.
Letting out a rumbling roar Huo took off into the air.
“Little harsh?” It spoke to her.
“This entire trip was a waste of time. After looking for Aang for days and finding him he chooses to stay and do who knows what here all because it feels things feel ‘undone’ or whatever that means.” She huffed grumpily.
“Was it?” Huo spoke. “Was it all really for nothing?”
She marinated on the Sun Spirit’s words for a moment. Had this entire trip been in vain? She had accomplished something that not all humans had ever accomplished. Going to the Spirit World in both body and spirit was no small feat. She had also finally come face to face with her true self. She braced herself as the dragon flew higher and higher into the light ready to cross back to reality.
“I guess it wasn’t for nothing…” She said softly, yet loud enough for Huo to hear.
“As long as I am one with you no harm will come to you Tsai of Yu Dao…”

The group sat in a circle around the campsite having breakfast. It had been a rough night. Everybody had a long day ahead. Sozin’s Comet would hit the Earth’s atmosphere in mere hours and Aang still wasn’t back. Neither was Tsai who had ventured to look for him in the dead of the night last night.
It was then that a high-pitched noise echoed off into the distance. The teenagers and some of the elders all turned around uneasily looking over their shoulders.
“Anybody hear that?” Toph suddenly said.
It was then that Suki looked up at the sun. She used her hand to shield her eyes from the blinding sunlight.
“Is that… a bird?” She said slowly eyeing an unidentified object that was falling from the sky.
“Is it Aang?!” Katara jumped to her feet looking up.
“That’s my sister!” Mecha shouted after catching a familiar glimpse of red.
“It’s Tsai!” Zuko shouted in panic.
The group could all hear the distant screaming coming closer. Meanwhile The wind whipped against her hair as she free fell down from the sky. She remembered the last words that the Huo had said to her and believed them to be nothing but lies.
“Is she flying?” Toph asked confused.
“Somebody do something!”
Toph couldn’t see. Katara didn’t have enough water to create a massive bubble or something to stop her fall. Suki looked around hoping to make a makeshift trampoline or something. Sokka, Zuko and Mecha ran around in circles hoping to catch her or soften her land. The three eventually bumping into each other and falling back.
They all looked up and heard some loud cackling before seeing Bumi rise high on a massive rock pillar and stretch his arm around catching the girl by her shirt midfall. She hung from his hand lamely, breathlessly, her face white in fear and hair messed up as she caught her breath.
“What were you doing in the sun?” The Crazy King cackled while still holding onto her shirt.
She wanted to respond something clever when she heard a tearing. That... was not good. She let out a scream when her shirt tore revealing the bandeau she wore underneath, and she once again fell luckily crashing on top of the tree boys that had been attempting to catch her. “Thanks for catching me guys,” she sat sitting on top of the three.
“Don’t mention it.” Her brother said gruffly catching the air that had been squashed out of his gut.
“What were you doing up there?” Sokka asked pointing up to the skies as everybody rose to their feet.
“It’s a long story. I’m just glad to be back,” she said sheepishly holding the back of her neck. “I found Aang!” She announced.
It took her some moments to explain to everyone what had happened in the Spirit World and that Aang wasn’t coming until he had fixed his unresolved issues or whatever it was, he still had to do. At some point in between Katara lent her an extra shirt.
"Uncle, you're the only person other than the Avatar who can possibly defeat the Father Lord." Zuko said to Iroh as the group had returned to having breakfast all sitting around in a circle.
“You mean the Fire Lord?” Toph raised a brow and pointed at him with her chopsticks.
"That's what I just said." Zuko snapped and Toph smirked a little before continuing to eat her bowl of rice.
"Hmm..." Iroh hummed thoughtfully.
"We need you to come with us." Zuko pressed unwavering.
Tsai’s eyes were focused on Iroh with a concerned expression.
"No, Zuko." Iroh lowered his chopsticks and shook his head lightly. "It won't turn out well.
"You can beat him." Zuko pressed not being able to come to terms with Iroh’s refusal. He gestured to his friends and then to himself. "And we'll be there to help."
Iroh sighed a long exhausting, draining sigh. "Even if I did defeat Ozai, and I don't know that I could."
“Hell, I’ll do it" Mecha shrugged bluntly. “Or my sister. Close your eyes a stab here a stab here. How hard can it be?” He shrugged insensitively earning himself a well-deserved kick from his sister.
“The only way for this war to end correctly without history seeing it as any more senseless violence, a brother killing a brother to grab power, a young man from the colonies seeking revenge,” he rationalized. Iroh looked around at the young adults sitting in a circle before him with a stony serious expression, "The only way for this war to end peacefully is for the Avatar to defeat the Fire Lord."
‘Great and meanwhile Aang is playing ghost back in the Spirit World jungle.’
"And then..." Zuko paused for a moment and turned to look at his uncle with an unsure expression. His eyes filled with hope. "Then would you come and take your rightful place on the throne?"
"No." He drawled out slowly. "Someone new must take the throne.” He said turning to face his nephew. “An idealist with a pure heart and unquestionable honor." Iroh smiled genuinely, almost proudly at Zuko. "It has to be you, Prince Zuko."
"Unquestionable honor?" Zuko asked in disbelief lowering his head. A shaken expression on his features.  He shook his head and raised his shoulders in a little shrug, "But I've made so many mistakes."
"Yes, you have." Iroh agreed lightly, "You struggled, you suffered but you have always followed yourown path, you restored your ownhonor. And only you can restore the honor of the Fire Nation."
"I'll try, Uncle."
The girl from the colonies appeared distraught and brought her knuckles to her lips appearing deep in thought, her eyes glued to the ground. Her other hand mindlessly reached for his knee in a comforting gesture. His expression was similar, his hand also mindlessly reached for hers.
"Well," Toph drawled out after a moment. "What if Aang doesn't come back?”
“He will,” Tsai spoke. “It’s Aang. We have to believe in him.”
"Sozin's comet is arriving and our destinies are upon us. Aang will face the Fire Lord." Iroh stated calmly. "When I was a boy, I had a vision that I would one day take Ba Sing Se. Only now do I see that my destiny is to take it backfrom the Fire nation so the Earth Kingdom can be free again."
"That's why you gathered the members of the White Lotus!" realization dawned upon Suki and she gestured towards the other members of the White Lotus that were wither sitting or standing around the camp.
"Yes." Iroh agreed with a nod then he addressed his nephew once more, "Zuko, you must return to the Fire Nation so that when the Fire Lord falls, you can assume the throne and restore peace and order." He then frowned. "But Azula will be there, waiting for you." He added distastefully.
"I can handle Azula."
"Not alone. You will need help."
"You're right." Zuko sighed softly then looked over at Katara with a small smirk, "Katara, how would you like to help usput Azula in her place?"
Katara smiled, "It would be my pleasure."
“Tsai?” He squeezed her hand and turned to look at her with a confident smirk. He knew he didn’t have to ask her. But her eyebrows were turned up in worry and she let go of his hand remaining silent. He gave her a confused look.
"What about us?" Sokka asked as he gestured towards himself, then Suki, Toph and Mecha. "What's our destiny today?"
Iroh prodded with a slight grin “What do you think it is?"
"I think that..." Sokka rubbed his chin thoughtfully then smirked triumphantly and slamming his left fist into his right palm, "I think that even if we don’t know when Aang is coming back we need to do everything we can to stop the airship fleet."
"And that means when Aang does face the Fire Lord, we'll be right there if he needs us." Toph added and punched her fists together eager to put the Fire Lord in his place.
“I used to think my destiny was getting my vengeance and destroying the Royal Family,” Mecha began. “But I’ve realized I’ve got to save what’s left of mine. I have to return to the colonies. Take them back from our father who will be there waiting.” He said looking up after a moment his eyes meeting his sister’s aggrieved expression.
“Tsai?” Zuko asked again shaking her shoulder lightly looking at her with concern. “You’re coming with us, right?”
She looked at the group and could feel all of their eyes scrutinizing her odd behaviour.
“I-I don’t know.” She confessed lowering her gaze.
“You’re coming with me, right?” Her brother asked.
“I don’t know.” She repeated again this time louder her tone more aggravated as she shook Zuko’s hand from her body.
“Where do you feel like you need to be?” Iroh asked gently. He lowered his bowl and his hands in his sleeves, despite his gentle tone there was a contrasting hard look on his face.
She didn’t want to say ‘I don’t know’ for the third time in a row. She shrugged uneasily. That forgotten dreadful feeling once again knotting in her stomach making her blood run cold. She hugged her body uncomfortably.
“I just feel like I have to be everywhere and nowhere. I feel like I have to be with Zuko to take down Azula, with Mecha to reclaim the colonies and face our father, with Aang to take down the Fire Lord, with you guys to take down the airship fleet, with Iroh and the rest of the White Lotus to reclaim the Earth Kingdom. I know it doesn’t make sense and I know I’m not the most skilled fighter or the brightest so I wouldn’t make a difference anywhere- but I have this terrible feeling...” She finished explaining a fearful look on her expression.
“You might not be the most skilled or the brightest,” Sokka said. “But you’ve certainly got the most spirit.” He added brightly.
She gave him a flat look; she was being dead serious about this.
“If you don’t want to come back to the colonies Tsai, just say so,” her brother glared at her misunderstanding what she was saying.
“But it’s impossible to be in all of these places at once.” Katara mused looking at her with apprehension.
“Is it?” Iroh stroked his beard thoughtfully.
“’Wouldn’t make a difference?’”Zuko said leaning to her side in disbelief at what she had just said. “Tsai, you’d make all the difference.” He hesitated before placing a tender hand on her upper arm. He paused for a moment. “Wherever it is that you choose to go.” He said in a strained tone.
She looked into his eyes and for a moment forgot that there were others around them. She thought for a moment deciding where it would be the best place to go. Where she was needed the most.
“Okay,” She whispered nodding sadly having made up her decision. “I’ll go to Yu Dao.” She said slowly. Zuko’s expression was unreadable. “Guess I’ll see you after the war?”  She said to him. She had already caused her family enough trouble to last a lifetime. She couldn’t walk out on them now. Not when they needed her the most.
He nodded understandingly respecting her choice.
“Ugh… There goes my breakfast.” Toph gagged interrupting the scene. Those two were just way too damn sentimental.
Iroh couldn’t help but smile a little at the younger girl, “Then let us prepare.”

Mecha packed up the supplies and weapons he would need on the back of the eel hound. An eel hound was a hybrid reptilian that could be considered one of the fastest creatures on Earth. Capable of climbing and running long distances on land as well as on water.
He noticed his sister was solemnly starring at the back of the prince’s head with what he interpreted as profound sadness.
“Alright,” he said turning to face her with an irate expression on his face. Growing sick of her moping around. He wanted her to come, he needed her to come, but not like this.
“Go,” He said bluntly.
She looked at him confused turning her attention to him.
“Go,” He nudged over his shoulder to Zuko and Katara who were packing to get on Appa. “You’ve been starring at him for almost an hour and haven’t said a single word. I know you want to go with him.”
“Mecha, I can’t. I’ve already- this entire situation. Everything that’s happened to our family. It’s my fault. I have to make things right.” She said feeling guilty as she mounted some supplies on the back of the eel hound. “I’m done making mistakes. I’m going back home with you. We both know its time.” She said sadly.
“A year ago, I told you to go, a year later I am telling you once again: Go.” Her brother said letting out an exhausted sigh and unmounting her stuff throwing it back to her. “It was my fault, I told you to go. Also, nothing I can handle.” He uttered seriously. If he had survived one of Azula’s thunder blasts he could survive anything.
“You can’t take ownership over my mistakes.” She protested.
“Besides,” He pointed a hand at Zuko and Katara ignoring her objections. “I can give you at least twentygood reasons why you should go to the Mainland with them-“
“Alright, go” She challenged narrowing her eyes crossing her arms over her chest.
“Alright,” He repeated in the same tone holding a finger up. “1) If Aang doesn’t come back, you’re the only one that can actuallylay a finger on the Fire Lord. 2) You’ve got to teach Azula a lesson, for the both of us. 3) Look at him, as much as I dislike Prince Ponytail- he needs you,” he admitted in defeat.
She couldn’t help but snigger a little at the nickname.
“He’s grown on you, hasn’t he?” “Shut up.”
“4) Youwantto go.” He sighed dropping his hand as if that was the only thing that mattered.
“I don’t.” She admitted. “I have a terrible feeling about today…”
“Excuses.” He glared unfaltering. “Also,” He said scratching his nose awkwardly before reaching for a scroll from one of his knapsacks. “I need you to do me a favor.” He said handing her the scroll. “Give this to Mai.” He asked a cheesy grin growing on his face.
She couldn’t help but hit his arm with the scroll. His grin only stretched. “The onlyreason you want me to go is so I can deliver a note for you. You selfish prick!” She hit him once again. God, her brother could be such a tool sometimes.
He shrugged in defeat still a lazy smile on his lips.
“Be well Tsai. I’ll see you after the war.” He grinned and hugged her. “Take care Mecha. I’ll see you soon… Hopefully.” She hugged him back tightly. “I’m so proud of you Vice Royal Governor.”
He was about to inquire on why there was such a sadness to her voice when they both turned when they heard a throat being cleared.
Zuko stood looking rather sheepish standing a couple of feet away from the embracing siblings. “I don’t want to interrupt,” he said awkwardly holding the back of his neck. “I just came to say goodbye,” He said tearing his eyes from the scene that felt much more private to him.
He was taken aback when a pair of arms wrapped around his neck in a strong hug that made him take a step back.
“What are you saying goodbye for?” She laughed a little. “I’m going with you!”
“Really?” He asked as a rare smile grew on his face. “I know Azula’s going to be excited to see you,” he teased. She hit his arm playfully. Both turned to face Mecha who was now on top of an eel hound.
“Mecha,” he said respectfully at the older boy.
The young man from the colonies sighed and steered the eel hound towards the couple. Zuko was expecting him to shoot him a jealous sibling death glare or even threaten him.
“Take care of him Tsai,” he said with a small smirk.
“Aren’t you going to threaten me?” Zuko asked in surprise.
“Nope, she’s yourproblem now.” Mecha laughed evilly. His sister shot him a glare. “Good luck,” he winked at them before riding away.
Typical Mecha.

Zuko sat on Appa's head ready to steer and guide him back to the Fire Nation. Katara and Tsai both sat back in the saddle they looked down at Iroh and the other White Lotus masters who all wished them good luck on their mission.
"So, If I'm to be Fire Lord after the war is over, what are you going to do?" Zuko asked Iroh.
"After I re-conquer Ba Sing Se," Iroh replied with a confident smirk, pulling a white lotus Pai Sho tile from inside his sleeve and flipping it into the air then catching it with the same hand. "I'm going to re-conquer my tea shop and I'm going to play Pai Sho every day."
“That best be an invitation,” Tsai smiled at him leaning over Appa’s saddle. Despite the grin on her face Iroh could sense a lingering cloud of worry.
Zuko smiled slightly at his Uncle.
“I expect you two to come and visit.
Suki, Sokka and Toph were ready across the field looking back at their friends on the back of Appa. Their eyes met and Sokka nodded once. It was time. "Goodbye, General Iroh."
"Goodbye everyone." Iroh responded as he looked at the heroes of tomorrow and closed his eyes for a moment bowing his head, "Today destiny is our friend. I know it." He said confidently.

Meanwhile in a distant land…
Fire Lord Ozai stood as the Phoenix King, the ruler of an empire that would rise from the ashes. He stood on top of a hill looking down at the Earth Kingdom’s terrain. Gazing at all the land that would soon be his.
“It’s time for this world to end in fire and for a new world to be born from the ashes.”
The skies cried and darkened with blood as they shifted into an unnatural hue. Wind beat strongly against the mountains and howled.
Sozin’s Comet had arrived.

I Was Never Good at Waiting (Sugawara X Reader) Chapter 2
Tumblr media
- It was your last year in highschool, everything had been going smoothly until you got assigned the new teacher. Sugawara Koushi was handsome, maybe too handsome for his own good. Be he wasn't flirting with you right, teachers shouldn't do that....I guess we will see where this year goes.
Word Count - 3,699
----
The doors were right in front of you, an arms length away. All it took was for you to reach out and pull them open, that's all it would take for you to enter the volleyball gym. But god those doors were heavy. You tried to pull them open, you really did. But they weighed so much.
Maybe it wasn't the door now that you thought about it, maybe it was your heart that was heavy. You remembered the faces of your teammates when you told them you didn’t want to come back. How disappointed they all looked, how disappointed they were. You loved volleyball, you practiced every second you had, it was your outlet for all the frustrations you had but could never talk about.
But you were a burden to the team. All the missed practices you had accumulated from bad grades, from lack of motivation to do something about it. All of it started to affect your games.
You knew you shouldn't have been the main setter, they had three other girls just as good if not better on the bench. All of them glaring at you while you missed set after set. You knew you could make them, at least you knew you could have made them. But you lost sight of what it felt like to have your teammates trust. It was all gone, and so was your need to be on the team.
You were already turned around and walking away when the doors opened and a head popped out.
“L/N?....L/N get inside of here you ass.” The voice was stern, but familiar.
You turned around to see the smiling face of your best friend, Yua. She opened the door wider as you sondered inside, not having the heart to look at the faces of the teammates that watched as you passed by.
“What are you doing here L/N, didn’t you want to quit?” Semi question as she walked up to you.
“I'm really sorry, I shouldn’t be here after the fight we had but you were right. I want to work hard and make the team proud, I want to be a part of the team again.” You looked up at the new team captain, she deserved the title. She hadn’t left like you. She was devoted to the team.
Semi looked you up and down before taking a step back. She shook her head, a displeased looked creeping across her face.
Your heart sank at the sight. They really didn’t want you on the team, you had done your damage. Tears brimmed your eyes as you nodded, it wasn’t your choice after all. “I’m sorry guy, I should have…” but you were cut short as a ball connected with the back of your head. Turning around you watched as Yua crumpled over in tears, gasping for air as she rolled around the gym floor.
You looked around the gym, confusion thick on your brow as you fought to understand what just happened.
“Look at your ridiculous face, did you really think we wouldn’t let you come back?” Semi chuckled, pointing a finger at the face you were still making. “You really are an idiot you know, we were waiting for you to start the meeting”. She outstretched an arm your way, pulling you into her side as she guided you to the group of waiting students.
“Wait was Yua planning on doing that all along?” You wined, massaged the sore spot on your head. You could still hear her gasping laughs, turning more into cries the longer she held her sides.
“I don’t know, probably, she was standing there ready to serve the entire time.” Yami laughed. She was now vice captain, and most likely in on the entire joke. “We missed you all summer stupid, we can’t practice without a setter.” She moved to the side, leaving room for you to sit beside her in the semi circle.
“You all waited for me, even when you had other setters? And you call me stupid..” You trailed off, a soft smile pulling at the corners of your lips. You turned around at the sound of a loud slap, ducking out of the way of an incoming ball. You looked back up, glaring at a red faced Yua.
“Too much?” She teased, walking over to join you.
You sat down with your team and listened to them go over everything the club entailed to the new first years. You missed this, it had only been a few months, but that was long enough to make you realise how much you loved being here.
Semi put an arm around your neck, pulling you closer as she pointed. “...and if you think about ditching out on us, you can do digging drills all night, just like L/N is gonna do at practice tomorrow.” She laughed along with the rest of the first years, but you knew better. It wasn’t a joke, she was going to make an example out of you.
Your face fell, you lied, you hated it here.
Soon the club meeting was over and it was time to return to class. You walked out of the gym with Yua, the both of you making way for the remainder of your classes.
“You should probably take this so you don’t look like a loser at tournaments.” Yua grinned, pulling your club jacket from her backpack. She dropped it in your arms, happy to be rid of the added weight.
“You planned this, didn’t you? Did you know Sugawara-sensei would help me find a tutor for math?” You questioned, tucking the jacket into your own bag. The familiar nylon brushing your hand as you zipped it closed.
Yua looked at you weird before shaking her head, “No, but that's nice of him. I was just hoping you would show up and cry a little.”
”Huh, I guess he is just being nice. I should probably thank him for going out of his way for me.” You muttered, more to yourself. It wasn’t unheard of for teachers to care about their students. But it was the first day of school, and he had just met you.
You walked into the classroom behind her, most of the class already full with excited chatter.
“Yeah, probably. Just don’t pass out while you're talking to him.” Yua teased as you both walked to your seats.
Hiroto waved goodbye to his teammates as he walked over to his. “Guess who's team captain this year!” He beamed as he sat down, eyebrows raised in excitement.
“Toshi, I already heard.” Yua was monotone, smirking as Hiroto’s smile turned quite literally upside down.
“Man, I was at least hoping you would take the bait.” He pouted, sinking into his seat.
Soon after the bell rang and everyone settled into their seats. Sugawara walked out from the corner office closing the door behind him.“I hope your club meetings went well.” He smiled over at you, gazes lingering on one another as he sat down at his desk. “Go ahead and take out your biology books and go to the first chapter.” He forced his eyes from your own, making an effort to engage in the other students as he opened his own book.
Opening up your book you sifted through pages until you were on chapter one. “And here is the boring stuff, I remember when the first day of school was all fun, no learning.” You sighed as you listened to Sugawara read from the book. Watching as he drew the diagrams onto the chalkboard, each one mirroring the picture perfectly. You cursed the hands you had been given. “He has nice handwriting, he can draw well. He isn’t even looking at the book, he’s doing this from memory! I couldn’t even draw a cat … everyone thought it was a cucumber.” He labeled out the parts of the diagram, defining the words as he went on. Even in his beautiful voice the passages made you want to bang your head on the desk.
Before long the period was over and it was his turn to leave for his next lesson. He packed up his belongings before walking over to your desk. You looked up to meet his smile as he rested a hand on your text book. “I’ll meet you here after your last period so we can talk about the tutoring, ok?” He readjusted the loosely held books in his arms, his grip faltering when you returned the smile.
“Yes Sugawara-sensei.”You agreed, taken aback by how close he was. You had sat closer to him during your morning meeting, but it felt different looking up at him like this. You felt so small.
He nodded back to you, waving a hurried goodbye to the class before exiting the room.
That was the first time you felt it, a heated gaze burning into the back of your head. You turned around to see two girls towards the back of the classroom, they scoffed when you met their leer, turning back to each other.
“Oh no, F/N-chan, you better watch out for Sugawara’s fanclub.” Hiroto laughed, mocking the girls behind him.
“F-fanclub, since when did he have a fanclub?’’ There was no way he had a fanclub on his first day, that was just insane. You knew of a few teachers that had that kind of attention, but they had been with the school for years. Even in that time they had only a handful of students that you could even call “fans”.
“During the club meeting a bunch of girls stayed behind and followed him around the school asking him questions, they were like vultures. Teenage girls scare me…” Hiroto trailed off as he shuttered, he couldn’t imagine a worse hell.
“Gross pubescent girls.” you shivered as the next teacher walked in to start your lesson for the day. Maybe they would go away. Most of the time the infatuation died off, before long they would be on to someone new.
Class went by fast, it was easy to focus once Sugawara was gone. It didn’t mean you understood anything your teacher had said about the math problems written on the board. But at least now you could try. Soon the bell rang and it was time for lunch. Kids started to shuffle out the door to the cafeteria as you stood up, lunch in tow as they rushed towards the cafeteria.
You stood up, walking with your friends as the tail end of the group dispersed into the halls. Turning the corner you bumped into someone, taking a few steps back you looked up at the two girls in front of you.
“Hey, Sugawara-sensei was talking to you, why?” One girl titled her head, her question sitting heavy in the air between the two of you.
“Um, well he’s finding me a tutor for math. He was just telling me when to meet him so he could go over the details.” You gave her a soft smile in an attempt to ease the tension she had created.
“Cool, after he’s done you can leave him alone.” She smiled back, the plastic shine visible on her glossed lips.
You were caught off guard by her sudden rudeness, opening your mouth to protest.
“Do you have a crush on him? How pathetic, he’s your teacher.” Yua laughed as she pushed herself in between you and the girls. “Did you run out of boys to chase Hina? Did they see how much of a troll you really are?” She gave the girls a concerned look, pouting slightly.
Hina bit her lip, looking over at the approaching group of teachers as they made their way down the hall. She pulled her friends sleeve roughly, tugging her down the hallway behind her.
“Bye, bye!” Hiroto waved sweetly at the girls as he pulled you along with them to the cafeteria.
“You are a trouble magnet, but you never do anything about it! Grow a backbone Y/N.” Yua complained, glancing back at you. Her scowl turned soft as he looked at your sullen features.
“Ok.” You mumbled as you followed on their heels.
“You're so snappy with us, why can’t you say things like that to all the people who give you a hard time?” Hiroto questioned as he placed a hand on your back, not wanting to push your mood further.
“I don’t know.” You sighed as you entered the cafeteria. You just wanted your classmates to leave you alone. You never caused problems for them, but they all seemed to want to cause them for you. Your mother had told you early on it was because you were different, foreigners always had a hard time adjusting in different countries. It would be different if the teasing had stopped when you were a child, but it didn’t. Each year it was someone new, the teasing topics becoming repetitive. You had tried your hardest to blend in, just wanting to disappear into the numbers of students that walked the hallways. But someone had it out to get you, you just knew it. “So be it, only one more year of these private school shits.”
Lunch came and passed, just as the rest of your classes did. You didn’t feel like being present anymore, it was silly to be upset over something as dumb as girls getting on your case for talking to your teacher about school. I mean, you figured that was one of the reasons you would talk to a teacher, for help at school. But here you were in your own little self pity bubble. You hated when you did this, but you hated everything else around you more, so you stayed inside it. The final bell rang, pinging throughout your brain hitting every nerve on it's way out.
“Do you want us to wait for you to finish your talk with Sugawara-sensei?” Hiroto leaned over as he pushed his books into his bag. The concerned look had found it's way onto his face before lunch and had lingered around ever since.
“No, I'm fine. Go ahead and head home.” Smiling, you cleaned up your belongings and placed them inside your bag, you wanted the alone time anyways.
Your friends walked out of the classroom, waving a small goodbye as they disappeared from your view. The rest of the students finished up and left for the day as the classroom cleaning was over. Before long you were the last one in the room, sitting at your desk as the hallway noise died down. The minutes ticked by as you waited for Sugawara, your eyes shifting to the door every time you heard the soft sound off feet down the hall. Soon enough an hour had passed with no sign of him, and so did you hope of getting the math help you desperately wanted. Just one more thing to add to your shit things that happened today list.
You put on your coat slowly, pulling your bag over your head. You adjusted it on your shoulder before giving the clock one final look. It was time to go home.
No one was staying after school for clubs today so it was just you in the school, your feet sounding ungodly loud as they echoed off the empty hallway walls. You were close to the staircase when your ears perked at the sound of your name being shouted down the hall. Peaking your head out from behind the corner of the wall you caught sight of Sugawara running down the hallway towards you. He waved for you to stop, slowing down slightly.
You wondered how far he had ran, his plees airy and rushed as he approached you. “Sensei?” you stepped out from behind the wall, walking over to his hunched over frame.
He had his hands on his knees as he fought for each breath, after a few seconds he turned his head toward you flashing you a brilliant smile. “I’m sorry L/N-san, I was stuck in a meeting in the west building. When I saw the time I rushed over here. I’m glad I caught you before you left..” He looked over you apologetically, guilt building as you returned his smile. He shouldn’t have felt this way. You were just a student he hardly knew, he could have talked to you in the morning. His fellow teachers laughed at him for being so worried about making you wait, after all he was the sensei. But he couldn’t get that sad look he knew had adorned your face out of his mind. He hated the thought of letting you down.
“It’s ok sensei, you didn’t have to run all the way over here. If you are too busy we can just talk tomorrow!” You smiled, turning towards the stairs.
“Come on, let's go back to the room and talk” Sugawara stood up, shaking his head at the notion.
You turned around, confused why he was making so much time for you already.
Sugawara turned around, waving at you to hurry.
You jumped slightly, picking up your pace to catch up to his long strides.
“How was the rest of your day L/N-san?” Sugawara asked once you were beside him.
It was sweet hearing him concerned with your day, something you weren't used to hearing.“It was ok I guess.” You shrugged as you walked back into the classroom. It was sweet, but you didn’t need to elaborate on the shit day you had had.
You sat down at a desk near the front of the room and he followed sitting on the desk next to your own. He looked over you for a moment, chewing at his cheek. “So, I couldn’t find you an available school tutor.” He dragged out the sentence, his tone wavering as you looked down at your hands.“But I have a solution.”
You looked back up, nodding for him to go on.
“So, either I can give you some extra homework and we can go over it in class. Or I can tutor you twice a week?” It sounded more like a question then an additional option, his confidence fleeting at the thought of spending more time with you.
“Well I mean what if we did both? I mean the more help the better right?” You perked up at the extra opportunity, anything to ensure your spot on the volleyball team.
He chuckled, nodding in agreement.“So we can meet on Mondays and Fridays after school if that works for you?” He was honestly always free, but he knew those were the days you didn’t have practice. He wanted to make it as easy as possible for you.
You were elated, not only were you gonna play volleyball again with his help, but maybe even understand a lesson or two as well. “Thank you so much Sugawara-senpai” You gushed, standing up suddenly.
His cheek couldn’t help but heat up at the change of honorifics used. He knew it was silly to be caught off guard by you calling him senpai, it was just another term for his relationship with you as student and teacher. But you said it with so much endearment, he knew you would be the death of him. “Let me walk you out.” He smiled, standing up.
As you both walked to the door he put his hand on the small of your back, guiding you out the door and down the hallway to the staircases. You remained silent, too focused on the heat permeating your skin. His touch was hot even through your thick coat, the warmth comforting on your cold skin. He removed his hand as you stopped at the shoe lockers, the burn of his fingertips slowly receding from your back.
“How did your volleyball club meeting go today?” His velvet voice broke the silence, his eyes watched as you slipped on your shoes. Your small fingers fumbling with the laces of your shoes. He could have sworn he saw them shaking slightly as you pulled on the strings.
Despite your nerves, this felt nice being next to him. Talking casually, it almost felt normal. “It went good, they let me back on the team. But captain Semi was already writing up conditioning punishments when I left.” you laughed, tucking your slippers into the locker. He closed it slowly, trying to drag out the conversation.
“Sounds like you're in trouble.” He smiled as he held the school doors open for you.
“Thank you again Sugawara-senpai, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me.” You walked past him, standing in the doorway. You turned around again to face him, the final look of the day upon you.
“It's no problem L/N-san, I'll always make time for you.“ Realisation set in as he saw the pink creep up your cheeks, before he could think of something to say you gave him a stiff bow.
“Goodbye Sugawara-senpai!” You shouted, turning to leave. You hurried towards the school gates, practically running for the train station.
He really did it now, if it wasn’t enough that he had developed an interest in his student on the first day of school, now he was actively flustering her. “Sugawara, what is wrong with you?”
You rushed home, your mind working just as fast as your little feet were caring you. “I’m sure he didn’t mean it like that right, he just meant that he would make time for you because you're a student and I'm a teacher and that's what teachers do. He definitely wasn’t going out of his way to help just you. He would do it for any student, because he's your teacher and that's it.”
You boarded the train home, mind racing at the day that had just unfolded for you. Before long you were at your front door, pushing it open and stepping inside. The living room was dark, silent as you took off your shoes. “I must be crazy, absolutely insane” You exhaled, finally in the safety of your own home. “There is no way I like my fucking teacher.”

ii. well, i've got open eyes & an open door
***
Living with the Hanajima family was...stifling.
No—not stifling! Tohru was so grateful to them for taking her in and for treating her so kindly. Saki’s parents had always been so welcoming to Tohru, and she considered Megumi to be her own younger brother. Even Misa, Hana’s grandmother, to whom Torhu rarely spoke, had doted on her the first night she spent living there, serving her tea and odango. The love and generosity of the Hanajima family was overwhelming, but it soothed an ache in Tohru’s chest she hadn’t realized was there.
But...the guilt was suffocating her, especially at night, after Hana had fallen asleep and Tohru was left alone with her thoughts. Hirofumi, Hana’s father, already worked so hard to support his mother, wife, and children; surely Torhu was just an unneeded burden in an already full house. She offered to cook, but the kitchen was Misa’s domain. She tried to take over cleaning duties, but Yumi, Hana’s mother, would bat her away with a playful smile, telling her she already worked too hard at her job. Feeling desperate, Tohru even approached Hirofumi about paying rent or utilities, but he’d just given her a stern look and said, “This isn’t a boarding house; you’re our guest.”
Their kindness brought tears to Tohru’s eyes, but with every grain of rice in her bowl and every inch of space she took up in Hana’s bed, Tohru could only see the growing debt she’d never be able to repay. At least with Grandpa, she’d done the housework, and she’d likely continue to do the same when Aunt Mie and her cousins moved in. Her time living in the tent had been cold and dark and oftentimes scary, but the independence Tohru had come to know had kept her spirits lifted. It all seemed a blur now, weeks out in the woods on her own flowing into tangled memories, but the one constant she’d known was the sense of peace that came from the knowledge that no one was burdened by her existence. She took care of herself so no one else had to.
Was it lonely? Uo had asked, after she’d calmed down that day in the classroom.
No, Tohru had answered, and it was true. Perhaps the spirit of her mother had been all the company she’d needed, but her memories of the tent always came with a sense of companionship, a sense of safety that surely wasn’t warranted. It wasn’t lonely .
Still...something didn’t sit right with Tohru when she thought about it too hard. Those first nights had been clear in her mind, the wind threatening the walls of her tent, the howls of stray dogs nearby, the scuttling of bugs across her skin—it had been difficult, but she’d persevered. After that, though, her time camping felt like a dream, warm and hazy and golden. She remembered the shuffling of papers; the tinkling of windchimes; a cat’s hiss; a boy’s soft laugh. Happy dreams, Tohru supposed, that kept her going during that time.
She hadn’t been lonely alone in the woods...but she should have been.
***
“I heard you ate lunch with Prince Yuki yesterday, Tohru,” Uo said as they stretched before gym class. “Those fanclub girls are not happy about it.”
“Eh?!” Tohru was taken aback. “Yes, Sohma asked to eat lunch with me yesterday, but it’s just because he saw I was sitting by myself. He was being nice.”
“You think so?” Hana asked, picking at the chipping black paint on her nails. “That’s not something Sohma does often.”
Uo nodded, hands on her hips. “Come to think of it, the Prince always eats lunch by himself, no matter how many girls pester him. He doesn’t even sit with his cousin.”
“O-oh? Really? Well…” Tohru tugged on the end of one of her pigtails, face growing warm under the scrutiny of her friends. “Maybe he thought I was lonely. He was very nice, we talked about gardening! Did you know Sohma likes to garden?”
“What is he, an old lady?” Uo snorted. “Well, just...be careful, Tohru. The Prince might be nice, but his fangirls are rabid .”
“His waves are...unusual,” Hana commented, more to herself than to her friends. “I don’t know what to make of them.”
“Unusual?” Tohru tilted her head to the side. “Have you...said that before? About him?” Something about it rang familiar.
Hana raised an eyebrow. “I have. But I still do not know what it means.”
“Maybe he’s like you, Hana,” Uo teased, poking Hana’s cheek with her index finger. “Maybe he’s got some secret powers.”
“Oh, wouldn’t that be wonderful!” Tohru exclaimed. “Hana, you’d have a friend like you!”
The corner of Hana’s twitched up into the ghost of a smile. “We’d have to be friends, first.”
“Then let’s make friends with him!” Tohru continued, clapping her hands together. “Maybe he can sense waves, too? Can you sense your own waves? Are his like Megumi’s? Or maybe it’s something totally different!”
“Alright, alright, calm down, Tohru,” Uo said, patting her on the head. “It doesn’t matter what’s wrong with his waves if he turns out to be a shitty friend. One step at a time.”
“Roger that!” Tohru drew herself up into a very serious salute. Hana laughed softly. “Friends first, waves second!”
“Maybe if we’re friends with him, he’ll give us produce from his garden…” Uo mused, stretching her arms over her head. In the distance, the gym teacher yelled at them to get into formation for a run around the track. “My old man needs more greens in his diet.”
“Tohru makes a delicious sukiyaki,” Hana commented casually. “I’m sure it would be even better with garden-grown vegetables.”
Uo snorted. “It’s not cold enough for nabe, Hana. You just want the meat.”
“Guilty as charged,” Hana said.
Tohru laughed with her friends as they began their run with the rest of the class, but a new spark had blossomed in her belly that she couldn’t ignore. If there was something about Sohma, then she had to get him and Hana to become friends. Hana had spent her whole life feeling like an outcast because of powers she’d had since birth. If there was someone out there like her...
Tohru had noticed it when they ate together, talking lightly about soil and sunlight, but Sohma had the saddest eyes she’d ever seen. They reminded her of the clouds before rain, dark gray and full to bursting. No matter how politely he smiled or how kindly he asked about her day, there was an intense sorrow in his gaze that broke Tohru’s heart.
If he had powers like Hana then maybe, like her, he’d be alone for a long time, too.
***
“Oi! Sohma!”
Tohru held back a meep of surprise when Uo shouted at Sohma from across the classroom the next day during lunch. She’d intended on approaching him herself, after he finished talking to Mayu-sensei, but Uo had beaten her to the punch. Mayu-sensei waved him off, giving Uo an amused smirk, and Sohma approached tentatively. Tohru couldn’t totally blame him; Uo and Hana looked scary when you didn’t know them.
“Is something wrong, Uotani?” He asked, head tilted.
“Nope,” she said, then patted the empty desk next to her. “Wanna eat with us?”
Sohma looked taken aback. “Only if you want to,” Tohru added hurriedly. “If you’re busy or already have plans with friends-”
“No,” Sohma said, still looking uncertain. “I would like to join you. Let me just...grab my lunch.”
Tohru beamed, relief flooding through her body. “Okay!”
“What are the waves saying?” Uo asked Hana, leaning back in her chair. Hana mused for a moment as Sohma ducked down to pull his lunch from his bag.
“I still can’t tell. There’s something...more. Something old.”
Uo’s eyes lit up in that terrible way that Tohru knew meant teasing was on its way. “You think he’s, like, a 30-year-old pretending to be a high schooler?”
“Older than that,” Hana said.
Uo gasped, awful grin widening. “50?”
“50 what?” Sohma sat down next to Uo, lunch in hand. Tohru could feel her face turning pink; if he’d overheard what Uo said-
“50 yen—Hana found a vending machine in the neighborhood that sells Calpis for 50 yen. It’s either a bargain or, like, cursed. Like an urban legend.”
“Oh.” Sohma didn’t seem to know how to react. “I’ve never had Calpis, but my cousin, Haru, really likes it.”
“Do you have a lot of cousins, Sohma?” Tohru asked. “We all know Kyo, and now Haru…”
“Yes,” Sohma said around a bite of katsu. “Our extended family is very large, so I don’t have any immediate cousins, but there are a lot of relatives my age who I’m close to.” He cast his eyes down, and Tohru wondered if he didn’t like to talk about his family.
“That’s so fun!” Tohru said, despite herself. “Growing up it was just me and Mom, so I never had any cousins to play with. I mean, I have cousins, but I’ve never been close with that side of the family…” She trailed off awkwardly, remembering that soon she'd be sharing a house with cousins she didn't know.
“Do you have any siblings?” Hana asked, and Tohru shot her a grateful smile.
Sohma nodded, mouth curling into a grimace. “An older brother.”
“Ooh, really?” Uo asked, that teasing glint back in her eyes. “Do you look alike?”
“Yes,” Sohma sighed, and Tohru thought she heard him mutter, “ Unfortunately .”
“Ha!” Uo rubbed her hands together. “Do you know how crazy the girls around here would get if they knew there was a second, older Prince out there?”
Sohma flushed. “We may look alike but we are...very different people.”
“Different how?” Tohru asked. It was hard to imagine someone out there with Sohma’s face but a completely different personality. Was he mean? Outgoing? Aggressive?
“ Kyon-Kyon !” Uo shouted, tossing her eraser at the other Sohma in the class. “Do you know the Prince’s brother?”
Kyo chucked the eraser back at Uo, a little too hard, but managed to miss. “Don’t throw things at me, woman!” His eyes moved from Uo, to Tohru, then over to Sohma, and a disgruntled frown settled over his features. “What do you want?”
Uo turned in her seat to better face him. “Do you know Sohma’s brother? He’s your cousin, too, right?”
“Ayame?” Kyo asked, spitting out the name with disgust. “He’s an annoying bastard, is what he is. He never shuts up .”
“Really?” Uo cackled, tilting back in her chair. “Tell us more.”
“What the hell? No!” Kyo growled. “Make that idiot next to you tell you about Ayame; it’s his brother.”
Yuki shrugged, bringing rice to his mouth. “He’s not wrong. My brother is loud and inconsiderate.”
Uo laughed again and slapped Sohma on the shoulder. “That’s rough, man!”
Tohru tittered, wondering if she should divert the conversation away from family, when she caught Hana’s gaze pierce over her shoulder. Tohru turned, and saw that Hana was staring at Kyo, who’d gone back to napping against the windowsill. The look in Hana’s eyes was uncertain...confusion, maybe? Intrigue?
“Hey, we got some time before class, right?” Uo asked, leaning over to rummage through her bag. “Who wants to play daihinmin?”
“Oh, that sounds fun!” Tohru said, grateful for the distraction. “Sohma, would you like to play with us?”
Sohma looked vaguely bewildered. “Oh...yes, I would like that. But I don’t know the rules.”
“Don’t worry, I always forget them!” Tohru assured him. “Hana’s good at explaining it.”
Sohma cracked a smile—a true, genuine smile—and nodded. “Sounds fun.”
By the time class started, Tohru was losing miserably, but Sohma was more relaxed than she’d ever seen him before, even as Uo teased him and Hana stared unnervingly. The site made her smile so hard, she thought her face would split in two.
***
Tohru didn’t mean to overhear the fight. She’d left her notebook in class and had run back to get it. But as she headed back to where Hana and Uo waited, she turned a corner and stumbled upon the two Sohma cousins locked in a heated argument. A part of her was curious, and another part worried, so she ducked back behind the corner and listened.
“-doing, talking to her? Are you trying to make Akito mad?”
“Akito can’t get mad if he doesn’t know. Are you going to tell him?”
“Fuck, no!” Kyo hit the wall next to Sohma’s head. “But he’ll find out, he always finds out. You think it’ll stop with him pulling us out of this school? You think he won’t hurt her, just to spite you?”
“I’m not stupid, cat ,” Sohma hissed, grabbing Kyo by the front of his shirt. “I know better than anyone what Akito can and will do. But I’m not going to let fear of him keep me from being happy. Not anymore.”
Kyo growled and aimed a punch towards Sohma’s face. Tohru gasped, but Sohma was quick, and dodged out of the way just in time. There was a loud clang as Kyo’s fist collided with the locker where Sohma’s head had just been.
“If she gets hurt,” he hissed, voice low and deadly calm. “I will kill you, damn rat.”
“If she gets hurt,” Sohma replied. “I’m not the one you should kill. Get your priorities straight.”
Before Kyo could reply, Sohma walked away, head held high. Tohru watched him disappear, then saw Kyo sink to the ground, cradling his hand. The locker he’d punched was dented, and Tohru could see specks of red forming on Kyo’s knuckles. Despite herself, Tohru hurried forward, sinking to her knees in front of Kyo.
“Are you okay?” She asked, reaching out to look at Kyo’s hand. He snatched it away, face growing pale.
“How much did you hear?” He demanded, eyes narrowing. “How much?!”
“A-ah, well,” Tohru pulled her hands back and settled them on her lap. “Something about a person named Akito? And you’re afraid Akito will hurt someone else? I didn’t really understand what was going on, but you two were really angry about it…”
Kyo’s shoulders sagged, and he seemed to deflate. “It doesn’t involve you, so don’t go poking your nose into places it doesn’t belong, okay?”
“Y-yes! Okay,” Tohru nodded.
“I’m serious,” Kyo said. “Akito...Akito is dangerous. Me n’ Yuki can handle him, so don’t try to get involved with this. You’ll just get hurt.”
Tohru couldn’t help but feel warmth towards Kyo. He was worried about her. She’d thought he had a softer side to him that he didn’t show to other people, and she was right. “Okay,” Tohru repeated. “But the person you’re worried about, will she be okay? Should we go to the police?”
Kyo almost smiled. “Nah, she’ll be okay. I’m watching out for her, so she’s got nothing to worry about.”
“That’s sweet,” Tohru said, beaming. “She’s lucky to have her own guard dog, huh?”
“Cat.”
“Huh?”
There was a light flush on Kyo’s face as he muttered, “I’m more of a cat than a dog.”
Tohru laughed. “I can see that! You’re skittish around people, until you warm up to them. And you nap in class a lot .”
Kyo huffed and gently bopped Tohru’s head with his good hand. “Yeah, yeah. You better get going, or wave girl and the yankee will tear apart the school looking for you.”
“Oh, you’re right! They’re probably worried I’ve been gone so long!” Tohru stood and brushed off her skirt. “I have bandaids in my bag, if you want to come with me. We could patch up your hand.”
Kyo waved her off. “Nah, don’t worry about it. I heal quick.”
“Okay. See you later, Sohma,” she said, waving as she began to turn.
“Kyo.”
“Hmm?” Tohru paused and looked back. “What?”
“Kyo,” he repeated, not meeting her eyes. “Call me Kyo.”
“Okay,” she said. “Okay. See you later... Kyo .”
Tohru ran off to meet her friends, heart feeling light. Maybe, just maybe, she’d befriended more than one Sohma boy today.

“Hey, Lydia.“ Marlize Starkweather came running up to her. “Heard you’re heading out to New York.”
“I am”, she nodded, “Inquisitor Herondale is sending me to check up on things. Ever since Valentine’s daughter showed up, everything’s a total mess.”
“You sure that’s the only reason you’re going?”, Louisa Lovelace grinned, coming up on Lydia’s left.
“I am not going there to snatch up the Lightwood guy.”
“Sure, you aren’t”, Marlize smirked, “so you wouldn’t mind if I went in your place?”
“Nice try. I’m going to New York to get shit done, not to get hitched.” With that, Lydia pushed past her friends into her office, the girls following right behind her.
“Who says you can’t do both?”
“And besides”, Louisa leaned over Lydia’s desk, looking around before whispering: “I have it, he’s looking to settle down.”
Lydia just rolled her eyes. “Right, because Idris-gossip is so reliable.”
“I heard it from Sophia Carstairs, who got it from Elena Underhill, who overheard Maryse Lightwood herself. His mother reliable enough for you?”
She stayed silent, but Lydia couldn’t help the grin spreading over her face.
“Come on!”, Marlize urged her, “everybody knows that Alexander Lightwood is THE eligible bachelor in all of Idris and the Institutes. His dad is rumoured to be next in line for Inquisitor and Alec himself is en route to become Head of the New York Institute.”
“And he’s so hot!”, Louisa blurted out with the widest grin.
“So hot”, Marlize agreed. “You know, last time he was in Alicante, I saw him training. Shirtless.”
“No, you didn’t.”
“Oh yes, I did.”
“Right”, Lydia interrupted the fangirls, “because him being hot is the pivotal argument.”
“It doesn’t hurt”, Marlize grinned back, hopping on Lydia’s desk, letting her feet dangle. “And I mean, he knows that you’d be a good catch.”
“Exactly! Besides from you obviously being awesome, just imagine: a Lightwood and a Branwell, joined in marriage… The raw power!”
“I mean, every girl in Idris would want to kill you for it, but I’m sure he’d be worth that.”
“Ah, can you imagine, being saved by Alexander Lightwood?”, Louisa cooed, spinning through Lydia’s office.
“I think I can look after myself just well enough”, Lydia stated.
“Even better! Battle Couple!”
“Ok, that’s enough. I need to get my stuff; the Mme Inquisitor has a portal ready for me in an hour. So, just let me be and I’ll see you in a few days.”
“Probably with a big engagement ring on your finger”, Marlize snickered, ducking just in time to avoid being hit in the head with a wallet.
Fine, the girls had a point; a good point. Alexander was the optimal husband-material and every girl Lydia knew was into him. And she couldn’t really fault them for that, admittedly. He was good looking, very much so; he was smart, one of the best Shadowhunters Lydia knew of; eldest son of one of the most influential and respectable families in Idris and he had the most promising future ahead of him.
Long story short, a girl had to be out of her mind not to want him.
Now, Lydia wasn’t exactly into all that gossip; she really didn’t get all the girls angsting after him, keeping track of his marital status or fantasizing about that guy. She’d be lying though, if she said she wasn’t intrigued. And Lydia was really looking forward to meeting him soon.
.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“Alec? You alright?”
So lost in his thoughts, Alec didn’t hear Izzy walk up until she stood right in front of him.
“Yeah. Why wouldn’t I be?”
“Because ever since you and Lydia came back, you’ve been extra grumpy.” She looked up at him with those big, soul-searching eyes and he knew her well enough to know that she wouldn’t budge until he told her the truth.
“Haven’t you heard?” He shot her the fakest grin. “I’m looking to settle down!”
“You are?”
“According to Lydia and the Idris gossip I am.”
“Oh, shit.” Izzy put her hand on his arm. “I’m sorry. Was it Mum?”
“Probably”, he scoffed.
“Listen, just ‘cause she’s spreading rumours, doesn’t mean you’re forced into anything”, Izzy assured him
“Yeah right…” Alec got up and headed for the door.
“Where are you going?”
“I need some air.”
Pulling his jacket close, he just started walking. Why was his Mum pushing this so much? She didn’t know, did she? It would be absolutely devastating if she did; it would explain though, why she wanted him to get married. Just imagine the scandal: Alexander Lightwood – Gay. It’s not like he wanted to come out or anything; if he did, he could probably kiss everything he ever wanted and worked for goodbye.
So, maybe he should just get it over with, marry some Shadowhuntergirl like Lydia. The Branwells were just as respectable as the Lightwoods, it would put him and his family in a good political position and besides, Lydia was nice, smart, a damn good Shadowhunter and yes, it wasn’t romantic, but she would benefit just as much as Alec would.
It did sound like a good idea, if it weren’t for a certain High Warlock of Brooklyn…
.-.-.-.-.-.-.
“Alexander!”, Magnus greeted him with a wide smile, “what a lovely surprise.”
“Hi. I’m not disturbing?”
“Never.” Magnus motioned for Alec to come inside and with the wave of a hand and some blue flames later, he held a drink out to Alec. “Cheers!”
After toasting, Alec downed the whole thing in one big gulp. That was an unusual sight on the normally so restrained Shadowhunter.
“Woah there, those drinks are meant to be savoured!”
“Sorry.” Alec put the glass down on the table and looked around the living room, looking indecisive, almost worried. “Sorry”, he mumbled, “I should probably go.”
“Or”, Magnus suggested, “you could take a seat and tell me what’s bothering you.”
He did not sit down, and Magnus could see the internal struggle going on. Well, Alexander has been taught his entire life that he cannot trust a Downworlder, opening up to Magnus probably went against every fibre of his training.
Tough. He came to Magnus, obviously distraught and in need to vent or something like that. And sure, Magnus would never deny the little skip his heart did when the pretty boy crossed his path but leading a Shadowhunter out of the closet was not his job.
Besides, he couldn’t force him to open up. No, Magnus didn’t want to force him to open up, he had better things to do. And if Alexander wanted or needed someone to vent, or needed help with something, then he should just get it out with and ask; Magnus would not play a guessing game, no matter how much he was into those steel blue eyes.
“Fuck, this is the last place I should be right now”, Alec muttered; didn’t make any move to leave, though.
“Yeah, you need another one of those”, Magnus decided, filling up Alec’s glass again, which he downed just like the first one. “How many more do you need until you start telling me what’s wrong?” Damnit, Magnus really let himself get roped in whenever Alexander was in front of him.
“Apparently, I’m looking to settle down”, he blurted out, eyes wide, putting his glass back down again.
Oh damn; a serious emotional issue, that was not Magnus’ fortitude. Maybe Magnus could charm himself out of that one. “Well, Alexander, don’t you think we should go on one date at least?”
Alec stayed silent; his face still ashen and hard as if he were one of the statues Magnus had standing in his apartment. Damnit, usually Magnus was flirty enough to break any sort of tension. “I’m sorry”, he apologized, “if you want to talk about it…” He held his arms open in the most dramatic fashion he could and draped himself on the couch.
“Apparently it’s the number one gossip in Alicante”, Alec groaned as he paced up and down the living room. “I assume it’s Mum who spread it and according to Lydia, it’s taken hold. I mean, what the fuck did she think she’d achieve? Pressure me into getting married?”
Uff. That was a wonderful thing to hear about the guy you’re really into. Sure, Magnus never thought it’d be a walk in the park, trying to get with a Shadowhunter, but the Clave really had so many sticks up their asses, it was making it all ridiculously complicated.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to bitch like that, it’s not your issue, is it?”
The fuck it isn’t! Magnus didn’t want Alec to marry some Shadowhunter girl, he wanted him to come out and go on a proper fucking date with Magnus! That wouldn’t help right now, though.
“That’s alright, Alexander”, Magnus forced himself to smile, “Just so I know what exactly you’re bitching about: is there a specific woman you’re rumoured you’re getting married to or is there just a bunch of Shadowhunter fangirls hoping to be the lucky one?”
Alexander blushed furiously and turned around, trying to hide his face from Magnus.
“The second one, got it”, Magnus grinned, taking another sip from his drink. “An I-love-Alexander-Lightwood-fanclub… Gotta say, if I were allowed in Alicante, I might just get in on that.”
Finally, the Shadowhunter cracked a small smile. Man, Magnus had started to fear that he had lost his mojo…
“Listen, your mother can’t force you to do anything you don’t want to do. And if all of Idris thinks that a marriage should be of political value or should only be between a man and a woman, well, unless you agree with them, you don’t have to do anything like that.” He was quiet a moment. What if Alexander did think like that and Magnus was here, getting infatuated with him? “Do you think like they do?”
“I don’t know”, he sighed and fell on a chair. “Fuck, why can’t I just fall in love with a respectable Shadowhunter woman like Lydia?”
“That’s not how love works...”
“Well, how should I know?”, he shot back. “My whole life long, I’ve been taught how the good Lightwood name stood above everything else, how our duty to the Clave is the chief responsibility to every Shadowhunter. My life’ll be certainly easier if I do follow those ideals”, he shrugged, grabbing for the glass that Magnus had already filled up again.
“Sure, it might be easier, but will it be a good life?”
“I mean, that’s how you make Inquisitor…”
“I’m not talking about rank, success, I’m talking about you”, Magnus explained. “I’m talking about happiness, satisfaction, pride in who you are and what you do… Real love.”
“Well, not everybody has the luxury to just do what they like, damn the consequences and conjure a cocktail out of thin air”, Alec scoffed and Magnus decided to play over the bitter tone of his voice and pretended, like it didn’t hurt him.
“You came to me to vent and I’m just giving you my honest take on the situation. If you don’t want to hear it, why come here in the first place? Especially since you know that I do not share the Clave’s opinion”, Magnus shot back, and yep, a little harsher than he needed to.
“Sorry”, Alec mumbled, fidgeting with his fingers. “You’re right.”
“Of course I am. I assume the very fact that I don’t support the Clave’s idea of love, happiness and whatnot is the reason you came here in the first place.”
By the way Alexander blushed, Magnus couldn’t be far off.
“I guess… Doesn’t really make anything easier, though.”
“Life isn’t easy, Alexander. Especially the good things you have to fight for. But they are worth it. What do I know, though”, he chuckled, “I’ve only got the odd century of life experience…”
“Right”, Alec nodded with what was almost a grin and got up. “Thanks for the listening and the advice and the drinks. I should get back to the Institute, though, we have a Mortal Cup to guard after all.”
“Sure thing.” Well, the Shadowhunter didn’t look as tense as when he waltzed in here, Magnus observed with a proud smile and waved after Alec as he turned and in big strides stormed back out.
Well, the ball was in Alec’s corner now; Magnus just hoped he would make the right decision. And by that, he obviously meant himself. What a giant fuck-you to the Clave that’d be! One of their most promising youngsters rebuffing everything they pretend they don’t stand for but actually teach it from the earliest age on; all that for the fabulous High Warlock of Brooklyn. Well, a Warlock could dream…

TAZ Amnesty Duck headcanon:
Much like Parks and Rec’s Ron Swanson/Duke Silver thing, Duck is actually a pretty good singer (mainly old timey country/folk kind of stuff) and on Friday nights goes one town over to perform in a bar. He can’t have the people of Kepler knowing his secret...
And he sort of forms this fan club of 40 something year old women in this town who all find him dreamy.
One Friday night, Aubrey and some of the others from Amnesty are bar hopping and end up a town over at a little bar with some nice atmosphere and oh look there’s even live music-
Oh shit. That Duck.
Long story short Aubrey drags Ned over the next Friday to watch and they both keep making country music puns and jokes until Duck realizes they know and tries to lie about it but he is Duck incapable of lying so now they know.
They convince him to play in Amnesty Lodge and at least 6 Silfs join the older woman Duck fanclub.

nonsexual acts of intimacy — select from the following for my muse to respond to:
♔ : Finding your muse wearing their clothes
wally knew he was breaking a lot of batman’s stupid rules by lingering outside gotham academy. he had no reason to be here, his own classes going on hundreds of miles away, it was just a bad day and wally wanted to escape to his best friend. only wearing a baseball cap as a disguise as if the worlds greatest detective wouldn’t figure out the speedster ( good thing wally knew that bruce wasn’t able to pick up his son from school ) it was artemis that he was more afraid of. plenty of lies were settled in his mind to feed the girl if he indeed got caught. he ducked his head lower when he heard the bell, green eyes scanning unfamiliar faces racing out of school for the one he’s seeking out. he finds him among the crowd quickly for dick is wearing quite a familiar sweatshirt over his typical preppy kid uniform ( don’t even get him started on artemis in a skirt !! ). it takes a lot like a lot not to just zip over to his friend and jog up to him normally. ❝ dude !! ❞ he engulfs the younger boy in a hug as if he didn’t just see him yesterday. ❝ sick flash sweatshirt. you know, if you want to ever join the flash fanclub we’d be honored to have someone with you dedication among us fanboys. also you want to go to the diner ?? i’m starved. ❞
