happy friday, i broke my promise to never make an RSS feed
first things first: here is EPISODE 2 of jim gordon must die, "RIDDLER'S DAUGHTER".
secondly, we now have a neocities website containing links to all the existing episodes.
thirdly, we now have an RSS feed, so our podcast can be consumed through your podcast player of choice instead of google drive links! follow the steps for adding a custom or private feed (like you would for, e.g., a patreon feed), and add this url:
https://jimgordonmustdie.neocities.org/rssfeed.xml
no guarantees that this feed will be successfully maintained, but you know, i said I was never gonna make one, so you probably shouldn't trust me at this point

Bruce is dead in this one
I've talked about Black!Batmom dying but I don't think I've talked about Bruce dying yet. So here's that... I'm sorry in advance
Bruce promised Y/N a long time ago that he wouldn't die in the suit. Hell, it was almost in his vows and he doesn't die in the suit.
Jim Gordon would be the one to tell her.
She's going about her day not listening to the news or anything, Alfred and her are taking care of the twins, Thomas and Damian stayed home from school.
Jim comes to the door and at first Y/N is joking about how someone must think Bruce is Batman again but then he asks her to sit down.
He tells her Bruce is dead and she doesn't believe at first so when Jim leaves, she calls Clark and Diana because they would know, even if Bruce didn't die as Batman. After they confirm it, she is in shambles.
Alfred calls all of the kids home, and they find their mother on the floor crying while holding one of Bruce's sweaters.
"They won't remember him," She mumbles repeatedly. The twins are three and Thomas is seven/eight.
Jason cracks next, he can't bare to see his mom crying. Dick drops to his knees but Tim and Duke don't believe at first. Damian thinks he needs to stay strong for Thomas and wants to cry. Cass is doing her best to console Batmom but it's hard.
She wants to ask Talia to bring him back. She does but she knows that Bruce would hate that more than anything. He's finally at peace, or at least she hopes so.

Jim Gordon had seen a lot of things in all his years as both an officer and Commissioner but for the most part things stayed at an arms length or he was able to easily separate himself from situations. Of course, there were incidents that were a bit harder to seperate from like Barbara becoming paralyzed due to Joker, all the times he or Barabara nearly died, kidnappings, and watching friends and loved ones either die or go down a dark path, but for the most part his life wasn't too crazy.
At least that was until one summer that all changed rather dramatically. In the form of a redhaired teenager showing up at his police station. She was around 17 and was wearing teal pants, a black shirt and a teal headband. But no matter her age or what she was wearing it didn't change the fact that she looked like Barabra had when she was younger.
That mixed with the fact that she specifically asked to see 'Jim Gordon' was something that made all of the Gotham PD point her in his direction. Once they were face to face the girl let out a shaky breath.
"My name is Jasmine Fenton, I'm your second cousin and I need your help protecting my brother from my parents and Batman."
Jim was shocked, blinking confusion away as he held up his hand. "Wait wait. You're my-"
"Second cousin. My mother is Madeline Walker."
Maddie. He knew Maddie though he had only met her a couple of times. Her mom and his dad were siblings. That explained why Jasmine looked so much like Barbara at least.
"Maddie... right, I remember Maddie. Okay, so why does your brother need protection? Specifically from your parents and Batman?"
Jasmine played with her hands. "My... my brother is different, Commissioner Gordon and my parents found out. They hurt him... badly. So we came here because you're the only one who might be able to help us but if Batman finds out we're here then Danny could get hurt again. B-but my parents and the government are wrong out him! H-he's not evil, he's a hero. H-he's a hero but because of what he is... he's labled as evil..."
Jim frowned, "Okay... is your brother a meta?"
Jasmine shook her head. "No."
Damn. Meta protection act wouldnt help here.
"Alright... is your brother with you?"
Jasmine sniffled then nodded. "He's in the car sleeping."
Jim stood up, grabbing his jacket off of the coat hanger. "Take me to him, please."
"You won't hurt him?"
"You have my word."
Jasmine looked at him, her teal eyes filled with more exhaustion and anxiety than any childs should be. Then, she let out a shaky breath and lead him out of the room.
They walked through the police station before Jasmine lead him out to the parking lot to the furthest corner of it where a beat up red station wagon was parked alone. Jasmine then gestured to the back window as Jim looked in.
The seats had been laid down and blankets laid out in a makeshift bed where a teenager around 14 or 15 laid sleeping on it. The teenager had healing bruises on his face and arms as well as a multitude of bandages that Jim could see peeking over the blanket, specifically on his chest. What had Jim the most concerened though was how pale the boy was and how weak his breathing seemed.
Any doubts Jim might have had immediately flew out the window. It no longer mattered who these two kids were they were kids in trouble.
"Why didn't you take him to the hosptial?" Jim asked, looking at Jasmine who looked ready to cry.
"Because if the Government finds out where he is they'll take him away and kill him. What he is isnt supposed to exist and is listed as 'dangerous'." She sniffled.
Jim frowned. The goverment couldn't know yet they took the risk to come to him? They must have been desperate.
"Okay, let me see your keys. I'll take you kids to my place to hide then call my daughter."
"Y-your daughter?" Jasmine asked, handing the keys over regardless.
"Yeah. She's good with these kinds of things and if she can't help I might know somebody else who can." Jim explained, climbing into the drivers seat as Jasmine ran to the other side.
"T-they won't turn us in, right?"
"No, they wont. My daughter is a librarian and my friend is a butler, they know how to keep secrets." He promised, pulling away from the police station in the direction of his house.
He could only hope that he would be able to help these two kids, and that whatever fear they had of the Batman wouldn't end up being justified fears.

Thinking of the way that fandom perceives Dick and Damian's relationship vs Bruce as Damian's relationship as very different even though there are really more similarities than we often give them credit for.
Like this is b/c I saw a fanart where someone was like "oh mean Bruce ignoring Dick when he got injured, nice Dick comforting Damian when he got injured" but... canonically, the Dick and Damian one has no basis.
We see Bruce emotionally lock dick out after Dick gets injured in robin: year one. we see Dick ignore Damian when Damian is shot in Batman and Robin 2009, focused mostly on talking to Jim Gordon and then going to England to lazarus-pit Bruce. Even in Battle for the Cowl, Dick doesn't comfort Damian, he just talks to Alfred about how he realizes Damian is his responsibility after Damian gets shot, then leaves to fight Jason. Dick's experience with Bruce after being injured as a child would be that Bruce emotionally locks up and is avoidant and controlling (saying he can't be Robin anymore). Damian's experience with Dick after being injured as a child would be that Dick is more focused on the mission than on him and absent. Which, I think the generally being absent is easier for the fandom to imagine something else happened than being emotionally locked up and controlling, because you can just say 'oh well maybe dick comforted Damian behind the scenes'. And it's fine to make that headcanon! I sure prefer it to what we have in canon! But that doesn't change what we actually see in canon.
I also see fandom reasonably drag Bruce for viewing Damian as something that needs to be fixed and a threat in B&R 2011... But Dick also views Damian as someone with an arrogant supervillain sneer and someone who needs to be saved by him in B&R 2009 (and the dialogue is when Damian is not there, but Dick doesn't have reason to believe he's in danger). He talks over comms to other people about Damian "See what I have to put up with?" (when Damian is still on the comms and can hear) Even if the most fluff Dick and Damian canon thing we have, Nightwing Must Die, Dick throws Damian to the ground in frustration when Damian is getting on his case (Verbally) and then yells at him, like I know if Bruce did that fandom would have his head XD like this isn't to Dick hate, it's to point out how fandom often glosses over the instances where Dick views Damian similar to how Bruce does, or when Dick is rude, for a 2-D "Dick good Bruce bad" sanitized fluff that does not really exist in canon.
anyway I wish fandom would let them both be complicated people and not demonize 1 or the other. they each can have good moments and bad moments, and good writing and bad writing.

⋆ 'PART ONE, - 'PART TWO, - 'PART THREE, - 'PART FOUR,
♫ “You're grown (a grown up), So grown (so grown up), now I must say more than ever.” Come On Eileen by Dexys Midnight Runners
Tumblr media
You listen to his confirmation and brighten up. You can sense the strange lack of wit in his words, and it frightens you in the same way it excites you. He believes in you. You repeat it like a mantra in your head. This hitman, sadistic homocidal maniac, as Jim eloquently put it, believes in you more then Jim ever did. Believes you’re worth more than everyone elses horrible secrets.
You think about what you said. You don’t even believe in yourself. Be an assassin. You didn’t even know how to shoot a gun until a few hours ago. You think Victor must be joking, but you read no humor in his tone. That dry sarcasm that flits into his speech was completely erased. Devoid of anything at all, except sincerity.
You turn to look at him, about to speak- about to ask a million questions. Would he take you under his wing? What about school? What about Jim? What about the people you’d have to kill?
Surprisingly, none of that seems to matter. And your voice dies on your tongue. You realize he’s been looking at you this whole time. When you meet his gaze, he doesn’t flick his eyes away. He’s lost in his own head, and you understand he’s thinking too. You’d trade an arm and a leg to find out what he was thinking. Regret for believing in you? No. Victor is shockingly honest. You’d learned that in the past few hours too. When your form was horrendous, he’d let you know. There was no sugar coating with him.
His brown eyes are distant, far off. You shift under his gaze and realize it makes you uncomfortable.
But not in a bad way.
No, it’s in the type of way you felt back home, when a dumb crush you had stared at you. The feeling of being mutually noticed and scrutinized. A pit drops in your stomach. What the hell was he thinking?
You two stare at eachother, and look into eachothers eyes. His ever longing gaze falls to your lips, and you slowly start to digest whats about to happen.
Your faces inch closer and closer together. Your high on adrenaline, on the idea your worth something. He’s inexplicably high on you.
A glove hand comes up to your face, cradling it. The city lights hit his eyes just right, you realize. The cool leather on your face makes your breath hitch.
Your not sure what’s happening, if this is a weird fling for him. His mouth is shut tight, and the lines in his forehead crease. You’re sure he’s going to kiss you in some strange turn of events-
His glove hand is placed over your mouth.
You give a short noise of surprise, muffled by his hand. Your eyes widen from there dazed state, and the moment is ruined. Of course he wasn’t going to kiss you. What were you thinking?!?
You stare at him, bewildered. Silently asking for an explanation. After a few seconds, he takes his hand off your mouth, and brings his finger to his lips. He’s shushing you. He nods down, and you follow his gaze to the stumbling men of Maroni. Ah. So that must of been what he was thinking about.
You feel your heart beating out of your chest. Show time. This could be the day you die.
“Okie dokie,” he whispers. “Time to boogie.” He says casually, repositioning himself off the ledge. You give him a slow nod.
The sound of Maroni’s men is loud. They laugh, open mouthed- obviously oblivious to your presence. Your heart beat slows down, and you realize- this is what you were made for. You wanted a purpose- you got it. If you make it out of this alive, you could be an assassin. With Victor, you try to brush that last part out of your mind.
You refocus yourself. You could be more than a resource. No, you could do more. Prove to Jim what happens when you don’t treat people with at least a little mutual respect. No wonder Penguin was asking for favors in return. He knew his worth. Something you lacked knowing, until now.
You follow in Victors footsteps like a baby bird, ready to leave the nest. You throw your legs back, and settle yourself onto the rooftop.
You and Victor share a gaze, and you flash him a smile.
Something in his eyes dies a little bit.
“You ready?” You ask him, as if he’s the rookie. The ghost of a grin on his face is lef, but it quickly dissapears, and your eyebrows furrow.
“…You’re staying here.”
Scilence passes over the two of you.
You physically recoil.
“What the hell are you talking about?” You whisper, trying to internalize his words. Again, theres no humor in them. You damn near choke.
You feel heat rising in your body. Anger. Memories of Jim telling you to stay behind.
Victor just nods at your words, repeating himself.
“You’re staying here.” He reaffirms, voice more gruff, as if he’s impatient. Your mouth drops a little at the audacity. His eyes suddenly look terrifying. Is he trying to scare you? Or is this just how he looks when he’s pissed? You flinch under his glare.
“You said- No, Falcone said, I have to go with you?!? You- you saw! I’m a good shot! I can do this!” You speak, and remember how you sounded begging to Jim to help more. Childishly, your voice rises from a whisper yell into something much, much louder- and his eye twitches.
He flinches in anger, roughly nodding down to Maroni’s men, as to tell you to shut up. You feel scolded.
Betrayl rips through you. So he didn’t think you had what it takes. What would Falcone say? Or was this Falcone’s plan all along? Have Victor leave you here, teach you some fucked up lesson about what happens when you trust people who just want to use you for what you have to offer. Would he kill you when he gets back? Have some other goon on stand-by to finish the job while Victor did the real killing? Were you just an organized collateral? Good for one bit of information, and then sent to die.
The more existential part of your anxiety is soothed, when Victor takes out a pistol. The same one pointed at you earlier. His finger is no where near the trigger, and he hands it to you.
You stare at him, shakily taking it from his hands.
“Protect yourself until I get back. Remember what I taught you.” He speaks, just below a whisper. His gaze is torn off you, unable to look at you and your damn sad puppy dog eyes. He knows what he’s doing.
You watch in scilence as he turns on his heel, pulling two more signature pistols from his suit jacket. He dissapears from the rooftop, and leaves you in your own sulk.
You want to cry, but nothing comes out. You stare at the pistol for a few moments, fiddling with the trigger.
No. You think. I can do this. I’ll prove it.
Before you find it in yourself to stop, you’re following in Victor’s footsteps again, down the stairs of the rooftop.
Tumblr media
The lights of the warehouse are dark. You attempt to stick to the shadows. There’s no sight of Victor, and you assume he must be outside, taking care of the men out there.
It’s a big empty space, and you’re surrounded in darkness. You feel your heart hammer beside yourself, and the grip on your gun is shakey. You hear numerous gunshots from outside, and your suspicions are confirmed. You know he can take care of himself, but a strange protectiveness wells up in you. You hope Victor’s okay.
You’re brought out of your thoughts when you feel a grip on your neck. You’re pulled into a tall body, back whisked against it. There’s a knife to your throat, and a quiet rat-like voice fills your ears.
“Falcone’s got rookies doing his dirty work now, boys.” The nasally tone chuckles, and you feel sick. Your breathing speeds up, and you hear the other shallow laughs of at least three other men.
Remember your training. You affirm. WWVD. What would Victor do.
You feel the knife gear up to slice your throat wide open, and you kick your head back. It sends the man flying behind you.
In an instant, you forget all about how these are people. Parents of your “friends”. Your fingers clench around the pistol, and you turn around, shooting directly at the man, just like a stop sign. He falls to the ground instantly, brains blown out.
He looks like the student you saw, face beaten in. You don’t care. You still have something to prove.
The other men look stunned, and your chest heaves. You point your gun wildly, shifting from one to another. They put there hands up. You realize they are unarmed. Idiots, you think. So egotistical, thinking men in numbers and pocket-knives would be enough to save them. They truly didn’t believe they’d get caught anytime soon.
You hear them beg for their lives. You just snarl. No, you think. You definitely could be an assassin. You definitely could be a killer. You were not an informant. No, you had a job to do. A real job; by order of Carmine Falcone. Zsasz and Gordon be damned.
You shot them all dead.
There bodies twitch underneath you, and you don’t stare in horror. No, this feels a hundred times better than a stop sign. You feel useful. First hand. You did this. You did something. And you’re proud.
Watching the bodies on the floor, you hardly realize the flickering lights of a single police car. You don’t hear the call of,
“GCPD! Put your hands up!”
You catch your breath, and feel your fingers only tighten around the gun. You whip around, still in position. No, you’re protecting yourself.
Your vision is blurry from the strong sudden flourescents of the lights. You squint, and make out a single cop. Or rather, a single detective. Jim fucking Gordon.
He stares at you, and he seems a bit bruised himself. Scuffs on his forehead and a bloody bruise on his cheek from fighting. You look at the gun pointed at you. The guns pointed at eachother.
You must look scared. Your previous confidence is replaced with something vulnerable. Intimate. You’re sure you look mousy, hair ruffled, blood sprayed, cheeks pink. Your body is small underneath Jim’s, and you struggle to look him in the eye.
“Y/N. Put the gun down.” He states, firm. He looks at the bodies on the floor. You don’t flinch.
“So you can arrest me?” You fire back, “So I can end up in Blackgate with all the people I helped put in there?”
He doesn’t falter, still in position. But he doesn’t speak.
“Think about it Jim. What I just did,” You nod to the bodies. “I helped! I did more than you ever let me believe I could! And if you arrest me, I’m going to die in that prison, Jim. You know that!” You speak, earnest. It’s true. Sooner or later, everyone would connect the dots. Find out who you are. Criminals would have a bounty on your head for exposing them. Best case scenario, you’d get beat to death in prison if you were lucky.
Theres something sad in Jim’s eyes, dissapointment. You feel tears pool in yours.
“You need me!” You plead with him, “Put the gun down! Let me walk! And I can keep helping you!”
He shakes his head.
“You really think Falcone’s ever gonna let you come back into the precint? Ever let me see you again?” Jim’s voice is breaking. You register his words. “Y/N, you belong to him now. You’re a criminal. You made your choice.”
You gape at him, trying desperately to push his words out of your head. Tears flow freely down your cheeks, and you feel him closing in on you. Subconsciously, your hand begins to drop the gun. Jim breathes a sigh of relief at you, through sad eyes. Gotham’s hero. You think, bitterly. Your only friend.
The gun has almost completely slipped from your hands. You’ve already lost. You faltered.
Until you hear the click of a gun. And look up to hear a familar voice.
“Hey Jimbo.” Victor speaks, gun pressed to Jim’s temple. Jim pauses, but his grip on his pistol doesn’t. Victor speaks through gritted teeth, turning to press it harder into his head. “Drop it. Now.”
His voice is low, and threatening. Ah, you get it now. This is the sadistic homocidal maniac.
You can’t register anything thats happening clearly. Jim reluctantly drops the gun on the ground, hands going up in surrender. You heave a sigh of relief.
You realize, Victor is not yeilding. You thought he’d run with you. No. He keeps his gun pointed firmly at Jim. And you feel panic rising inside of you. You don’t want your only friend…if you can still call him that…dead.
“Victor.” You breathe, and he doesn’t look at you. His gaze is hard, eyes wide in alert as he focuses the gun further into Jim. “Victor, please.”
You plead with him. Jim is deadly silent.
“Victor, don’t kill him. He’s the only friend I have.” You beg, and Victor’s eye twitches, as if the sentiment makes him even angrier. He finally looks at you.
“I told you stay on the rooftop.” He grits out.
“…You also said I could do this.” You nod, to the bodies around you.
You two argue like a lovers quarrel, Jim stares intently, holding his breath. He’s realizing the extent of your feelings for eachother before even the two of you do. He makes a mental note. Zsasz has a weakness, and it’s you. The quiet, desperate, small girl he met that faithful day on campus.
Thankfully, before Jim can internalize just how useful this information is, a gun hits him square in the head, knocking him out. You whisper a quiet thank you to Victor, who had opted for roughly knocking him unconscious. For now. Victor thinks. He’ll kill Jim for pointing a gun at you. Eventually. When your officially his girl.
He grabs you by your arm, pulling you up. The sounds of more police sirens ring out. Jim called back up.
You look at Victor, trying to think it through. Why did he protect you? Why didn’t he let Jim arrest you?
Before you get the chance to ask, he’s dragging you along, sneaking through a back entrance. Hes silent the whole time, and you catch a glimpse of the five fresh cuts littered into his forearms.
When the two of you finally cross over, running hand in hand into an alleyway, he pushes you back into the building. It’s still dark outside, and the only thing you can make out is the glint in his black eyes from the streetlamps.
He looks at you, scanning you over, just like he did when you met him. Which you can’t seem to believe was just this morning.
You bite your lip, and search his eyes.
They are worried for you. Protective. A dark gaze connects to yours, and you swallow.
You get it. You get it now.
He’s in love with you.

How about a thing where Bruce rings Jim Gordon's doorbell to get drunk on Harvey Dent Day? Because I certainly wrote that, and it's right here.
One year post-TDK. 700ish words, I think. No porn, just feels.
-----------
Jim Gordon’s doorbell rings a little past 3pm, on a cloudy day, a normal day in Gotham by all standards. He expects a salesman he can politely send away, a reporter at worst, but he certainly does not expect Bruce Wayne. The three-piece suit, the smug air and one hand jammed in a pocket. “Commissioner,” Wayne says.
“Mr Wayne.”
Gordon makes his tone as interrogative as one can when addressing a man rich and powerful enough to ruin the entire city at will. But Wayne seems to take the cool, startled greeting as an invitation, and steps forward so decidedly that Gordon has to bodily stop him, and he is surprised too that it takes him some effort; Wayne is stronger than he looks. “What,” Jim says, “are you doing here?”
Wayne’s eyes are still unreadable; the hand not in his pocket produces a bottle, amber glass, slim with a long neck, white kanjis over a dark red label. “It’s Harvey Dent Day. We should celebrate,” he says. This time, he pushes Jim out of the way, not violently, but Jim would have needed to put all his weight into it to resist.
With mixed bewilderment and irritation, he follows Wayne to the kitchen, his kitchen, where Wayne has just fished two glasses from a cupboard. “Are you high?” he asks, and it’s his turn to wedge his hands in his pockets. “If you are, coming to the police Commissioner’s house is not a good idea.”
“Definitely not high, no.”
“Okay,” Jim says softly. “Then unless you tell me what you are doing in my house, Mr Wayne, you’re going to need to leave.” His demeanor stays mild, and his voice gets even softer than it was, but the warning gets through to Wayne; he stops unscrewing the bottle and his gaze drifts.
“It’s Harvey Dent Day,” he says again, quieter this time, with something in the voice that makes Jim frown.
“No, it’s not. Harvey Dent Day is on the 8th. Today’s the 6th.”
Wayne resumes his work on the bottle, pours two glasses. “Harvey didn’t die on the 8th,” he says. “He died on the 6th, when I pulled him out of the warehouse at Cicero.” He holds out a glass for Gordon.
The combination of Wayne’s voice, deeper now, with the steady, and suddenly familiar, eye contact, tells Jim more than Wayne’s words do. He takes a few steps back, as if the newfound truth had an imposing presence in the room. Wayne is still looking at him, and Jim doesn’t think Batman has ever held his gaze for that long.
The glass is still offered—Jim takes it.
Wayne sits down at his kitchen table. Jim sits too, and gradually, he stops seeing Wayne’s suit, his slicked-back hair, and his long legs, crossed at the knee, like an old Hollywood type. He sees the jawline, the unsuspectingly broad shoulders in a jacket, he guesses, tailored specifically to make Wayne look less muscular than he must be underneath—and that silence, calm and trusting, like peace in the storm. Jim would know that silence anywhere.
He swallows: surprise recedes, and other emotions flood him in its place. He exhales, and his own breath is warm on his lips, and, yes, his voice is shaking, when he says, “I thought you were gone.” It’s nowhere near what he means to say, which is somewhere in between don’t you dare leave me alone with this lie and please, don’t leave me, I need you.
Wayne has a small smile. “Not going anywhere. Gotham is my home.” He raises his glass. “To Rachel,” he says, and sure enough, his eyes are lined with tears that he’s not trying to hide. “And to Harvey.”
They knock back their glasses.
“Sweet Lord,” Jim says. The liquid in that bottle looks innocuous enough, a very pale beige tint in their small glasses—there’s almost no bite to it on his tongue, and yet it lands strong and almost uncomfortably warm in his stomach. Almost.
“Yeah,” Wayne agrees. “It does that.”
He gets the bottle from the counter, and Jim holds out his glass.

BIG tuesday
i skipped last tuesday because i was working on a take-home exam and simply did not have the time nor the inclination, so: beefy tuesdaypost today!
listening: my brother recommended 'dead magic' by anna von hausswolff and boy what an album. gothic, punchy, very vibey. the kind of album you let wash over you like an ocean wave.
pulled 'mostly kosher' from my to-listen list. fun, funky, very jewish, good vibes. ikh hob dikh tsufil lib
i've continued to mainline borodin symphonies 1 & 2. idk they're just hitting right.
and the new pieces for the orchestra i'm in - very french this time round: debussy's fêtes: kinda spooky and ominous and also fluid in a fun way! lots of buildup that seems to resolve into nothingness. horn parts for this are pretty good, not too difficult but are definitely Heard. chabrier's españa: really bumpin horn parts. fun bouncy motifs. what's not to like.
pocasting-wise, i'm up to partizan 38. 10 episodes left!!! the home stretch!!!!! it's so good but things are definitely amping up in the end-of-fatt-season way.
i've also listened to my friend b's gotham tv show podcast 'jim gordon must die'. very good and funny. i laughed out loud at some of the episode 3 descriptions.
reading: i was stuck in Bad Airport Times this past saturday (flight delayed 3 hours, then sat for an hour on the tarmac, arrived at 10pm when i was originally supposed to arrive at like 630) so i blasted through all ~150k words of 'freefall' by Kunoichi21 and xoTsundoku. bog-standard mafia au, but with a fun little circus arts twist; fun background fengqing; i do not like that they made beefleaf wholesome. give me my toxic beefleaf god damn it. but otherwise it was a fun read, sappy romcom-style. the fic itself isn't quite done but it's in endgame. the author notes have peak fanfic culture energy of "hey guys! sorry i didn't update, i started nursing school and my dad died" bro .... ;___; goddamn. please take care of urselves
watching: we are almost done with kill la kill! last two eps!!! so tonight we're doing that and also watching last week's dunmeshi together.
friend and i finished comrade detective. incredible. no notes. so funny. we started 'endeavour' which is a detective morse prequel thing and goddd the british-isms, and also started serial experiments lain. i don't know what i was expecting but god it was not this. i literally thought this was a cute fun hacker mystery show in the energy of cowboy bebop. it is Not That. not even close. it's good though i'm enjoying it. currently staggering through life going uhhhhh like lain does in the first few eps.
playing: fallow. i am re-installing disco elysium on my computer though. ive been wondering if i should try to keep going on the save file from last year or if i should just start over because i barely got in there at all.
making: many things. pottery!! some good some not as good.
so this design came out SO nice but the underglaze is so gd streaky! i hate it !!! i don't think it's really fixable either, i tried the hairspray trick to put new solid glaze over top the inside so at least that would look less like shit but i could not get it to work. maybe sanding it down? idk. it's ugly. it was supposed to be a bright teal but the woman who runs the studio mixed the batch up wrong so it's like. a really drab gray and not in a fun or intentional way. idk.
Tumblr media
some new bisque:
teacups came out! still mismatched but cute nonetheless! gonna do them in a sort of celadon-type color with white flowers to match the teapot that my SO has :)

i don't feel like adding more photos for these lol they're very boring. the pot for my mom came out fine i think. gonna go in with normal white glaze over top to paint in some trees or other botanical designs. i sponged the underglaze on so hopefully the final result won't be streaky. sponged red on my seder plate to hopefully accomplish the same thing. mugs came through the bisque with no issues but i didn't do anything fun with underglaze on one of them so no new pics of that, but the other i did this tree thing again:
Tumblr media
i KNOW it'll be streaky as hell. i just know. so i'm considering how i want to do it. perhaps putting some slightly transparent green over the top of it all to meld it together? unsure.
some new stuff: made a citrus juicer, this was attempt number 2 and just barely got it to work, attempt 1 was a total disaster. also made another mug type object, hopefully it'll still be wet enough this weekend to slap a handle on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
two mugs with red clay, i really loved the lascaux mugs that jessica bartram put up for sale last year but i didnt snag one in time so i was like. fuck it. i will make my own. gonna let them dry to leather hard before going in with black underglaze.
Tumblr media
i've been trying to draw again but. idk. i just feel very uninspired. i start drawing and it's like :| :| :|
eating: i was on my own food-wise for much of the last week because my roommate was babysitting for the rabbi, so i did not eat nearly as extravagantly as i normally do, LOL. i made a lo mein recipe that was kinda just a stir fry. this could have been my fault because i added a bunch of extra shit like bok choy and mushrooms. i also didn't use the correct type of noodle, and i didnt have oyster sauce so i used worcestershire, etc. many substitutions so it's probably not fair for me to say it was Just Fine. will have to try again at some later date actually following the recipe. herb and radish salad with feta and walnuts: delicious. 10/10. i tossed in some extra arugula and that was also good. and i made the tofu brussel sprouts tahini/hoisin sauce thing again because it's easy and tasty.
misc: visiting my grandma right now ...... entrenched in the ennui .............. spring break ........................

do you have any comic recommendations of joker's humanity being explored? Or just comics where he is handled as a complex, multidimensional human being?
Oh boy do I! [rolls out 100-slides Power Point]
I must make the note that these are specifically comics in which Joker is portrayed as either becoming sane (however briefly shown), exploring Joker’s psyche in a more detailed way (with his many recollections and reinventions of his own past -- but which are all very telling in themselves), or with him empathizing or displaying emotional reactions/decisions that one would not expect of him. These are not a primer on the whole of Joker’s character; there are many Joker classics I did not include, because a lot of great Joker comics are rather about Joker’s choice to be a monster, and persevering in that choice. I also did not include every single Joker origin story/recollection that I know of, because not all of them show off Joker’s vulnerabilities. In essence, I tried to keep this centred around comics that offer glimpses of his long-buried humanity. To my best attempt, these are also in chronological order of publishing.
*Heath Ledger voice* Here... we... go.
+ Batman: The Killing Joke (1988)
Joker initiates a psychological battle with Batman, in which he tries to use Jim Gordon as an example of everyone being capable of succumbing to madness after ‘one bad day’. It doesn’t work, and he proves himself wrong -- but it’s the first and only time he’s genuinely shown to consider rehabilitation. Had to include this one, it’s THE Joker story and what kickstarted references to Joker’s prior family and his humanity in later 90′s/00′s comics.
+ Batman (1937) #450-451
Joker deals with the emotional aftermath of being left to die, and of killing Jason in Death in the Family.
+ Batman: Going Sane (1997)
The Joker seemingly kills Batman. Faced with the loss of his nemesis, Joker gives up crime and becomes Joe Kerr, an average man who only wants to dote on his girlfriend and live his quiet life. But of course Batman isn’t actually dead.
+ Deathstroke (1991) #58
Joker pretty much empathizes with and tries to help (in his own way) an abused little girl who's been writing letters to him. All while Deathstroke is trying to stop him from destroying a whole city.
+ The Spectre (1992) #51
The Spectre tries to pass judgment onto Joker, but Batman fights to save him and argues on his behalf. Briefly, Joker becomes sane, and immediately begs for death as he regrets his actions (which becomes a bit of a recurring theme).
+ Batman: Shadow of the Bat #37-38 (1995)
Joker kidnaps a bunch of people from Gotham University and hatches a plan to kill them, because he recalls his days as a comedian -- and he blames them for not laughing at his jokes. This is clearly referencing The Killing Joke (TKJ).
+ The Joker: Devil’s Advocate (1996)
The Joker has been captured and sentenced to death for mass murder, but he was wrongfully convicted, since he was actually framed. Batman cannot let him die when he discovers the truth; but Joker refuses to try and help in stopping his impending demise, too drunk on getting Gotham’s attention.
+ JLA (1997) #15
Conclusion of the Rock of Ages arc. Martian Manhunter manages to briefly turn Joker ‘sane’, to get him to hand over the Philosopher’s Stone. But he cannot hold the madness down for long. However, in that brief moment of sanity, Joker expresses regret once again.
+ JLA (1997) #35
The Spectre is considering destroying Earth because there’s so much evil inside the heart of humanity, including the very hearts of the Justice League. But then Martian Manhunter takes him inside Joker's head, and things get interesting. (I have an older meta on this issue here. TKJ is once again referenced.)
+ Batman: It’s Joker Time (2000)
Through a mix of comic book shenanigans (and some very unsubtle ‘TV rots your brain!’ messaging that was typical for the times), Joker ends up as the star of a TV show, where his mind gets probed by psychologists for the masses’ entertainment. This results in some very interesting stories and embellishments of his past, with the final version being another TKJ callback.
+ Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #145 (2001)
Joker gets captured and killed by Ra’s Al Ghul as part of a plot to destroy the world. Batman revives him in a Lazarus Pit because Joker has crucial information for saving the world. After waking up, instead of going psychotic, Joker briefly regains his sanity and begins to regret his actions, begging for death.
+ Robin (1993) #85
Between delivering ever-more exaggerated lies about his childhood to the therapists at Slabside Penitentiary, the Joker discusses his history with the Robins.
- Batman: Gotham Knights #52, #54 (2001)
Part of the Pushback arc. Riddler knows the name of the cop who shot Joker’s wife, and reveals it to him. This comic wildly contradicts other canon titles with the exception of Batman: The Three Jokers, so I do not consider it canon. The Joker in this story, while showing vulnerability, is one who perfectly remembers his TKJ origin, and that ruins the unreliable narrator multiple-choice-past integral component of the character. Gotta say, not a big fan of Dan DiDio’s choices.
+ JLA (1997) #84
First part of the Trial of Fire arc. Burning Martians force the minds of prisoners in multiple places into sanity, including Arkham Asylum. Joker expresses regret and the desire to die for his actions.
- Batman Confidential: Lovers and Madmen (2007)
Alternative origin of the Joker. Taking place within Batman’s first year, a psychopathic hitman by the name of Jack comes to Gotham, and becomes obsessed with Batman because in a world where nothing matters, Batman makes him feel something. He becomes the Joker when Batman slashes his mouth open into a permanent smile with a batarang, and he also takes a bath in chemicals. Since it contradicts Joker having been Red Hood prior to his clown days, it cannot be canon, but it’s a good story.
+ Superman: Emperor Joker (2007)
When Joker is accidentally given unlimited reality-shaping powers by Mr. Mxyzptlk, he reshapes the universe in his image. He keeps torturing Batman for fun until he breaks his mind. But Superman figures out the flaw in Joker's psyche that would fix everything, and uses it to save everyone -- except Bruce, who needs his memories taken away just so he can function. (I think this is where the pattern of Joker mentioning he needs to be stopped begins.)
+ Batman: Secrets (2007)
One of Joker and Batman’s fights gets caught on camera, and it appears as if Batman is pummeling his archenemy without mercy. The Joker uses this to frame Batman in the court of public opinion while the media hovers like vultures. Much like Devil’s Advocate, this story is an interesting exploration of Joker’s overwhelming need for an audience, and what he’s willing to do for Gotham’s attention and approval. This comic references TKJ too, and in one of my favorite ways.
+ Batman: R.I.P (2008)
While Batman is believed to be dead, Joker assumes a new identity with the goal of exposing and defeating the organization that orchestrated Batman’s ‘death’, and its leader. (Second time he thinks Batman is dead, and his response is again to become someone else -- though the first time it’s to run away. The second time it’s to exact revenge, and in a roundabout way, he helps Batman and Gotham here.)
+ The Brave and the Bold #31 (2010)
The Atom goes into the Joker's mind to cure him of a rare disease. While there, he sees Joker's memories, specifically him burning his parents after they catch him killing animals and him killing his accomplice after robbing a store. (This doesn’t sound like vulnerability, but I’m pretty sure this memory is a fabrication and a defensive mechanism. I’ve mentioned my interpretation of it in an older meta here, which talks about a couple of the titles here as part of an attempt to piece together a potential version of Joker’s past.)
+ Batman: Streets of Gotham: The House of Hush (2011)
Part of the bigger Streets of Gotham story, but this one details the story of a little boy called ‘Sonny’, and the abuse he suffers at the hands of mobsters. Later, the boy is clearly revealed to have been Joker, who enacts his revenge.
+ Batman #23.1 (2013)
In the middle of a job, Joker recalls how he once lived with his abusive Aunt Eunice. He also bonds with a gorilla. (This is where a specific meme of Joker going :/ is from, hah.)
+ Batman (2011) #17
Conclusion of the Death of the Family arc. When Batman bluffs about knowing Joker’s past and identity, he becomes so terrified he pretty much jumps off a cliff.
+ Batman (2011) #40
Conclusion of the Endgame arc. When Batman stops him from healing himself while they’re both dying, Joker begs for him to let go and has a breakdown before the caves crumble on top of them.
+ Batman (2011) #48
Both Batman and Joker are amnesiacs after coming back to life, not remembering their past identities, and yet still meeting each other. While clearly suicidal and not remembering his past as Joker at all, he encourages Bruce to not become Batman again.
+ Dark Days: The Casting (2017)
Part of DC’s wider Dark Nights: Metal event. Joker was captured by Batman and kept in the Cave for his knowledge, and he uselessly tries to stop Batman from unleashing Barbatos and the Dark Multiverse on all their heads. Bruce, however, is very stubborn.
+ Dark Nights: Metal #6 (2018)
Joker teams up with Batman to defeat The Batman Who Laughs.
+ Batman (2016) #49
Joker attempts to kill Selina Kyle, due to Batman and Catwoman’s impending wedding. In doing so, he talks about his need for Batman to keep existing, since no one else would be able to stop him.
- Batman: White Knight (2017)
Set in a world where the Joker is cured of his insanity and homicidal tendencies, Joker, now known as “Jack,” sets about trying to right his wrongs. Black Label, not canon. Mentioning it because technically Joker is made sane in it, and shown to be vulnerable emotionally multiple times, but I hate it. When he’s Joker he’s insane and obsessively in love with Batman, but when he’s sane and Jack he’s an upstanding citizen and in love with Harley. Congrats on downright saying being gay makes you crazy and that only the love of woman can heal you, DC. You’d think they’d stop it with the Predatory Gay trope in our day and age, but nah.
+ The Batman Who Laughs (2019) (#1, #4, #7)
After Joker intentionally infects Batman with the toxin in his heart that would turn him into Batman Who Laughs (all to give him an advantage in the fight against the villain), he expresses a desire for neither himself or Batman to ever win, and swears to kill Batman if he crossed the line. A promise which he keeps by actually shooting him, the mad lad.
+ The Joker 80th Anniversary: Birthday Bugs (2020)
Joker empathizes with a psychopathic child, who wants his peers to join his birthday party. It’s a dark kind of empathy, but still a form of caring.
+ The Joker 80th Anniversary: The Last Smile (2020)
Harley recalls a frequent nightmare that had Joker terrified: dying on the electric chair while Batman laughed at him.
- Harleen (2020)
A reimagining of Harley Quinn’s origin: a young promising psychologist encounters a very smart and manipulative serial killer, spinning story after story of his own past. A Black Label comic, so technically not in continuity, but I did like it.
+ Batman: Gotham Nights #9 (2020) -- Joker’s Wild
Joker recalls another version of his comedian days, while he holds the owner of comedy clubs in Gotham at gunpoint.
- Batman: Three Jokers (2020)
Very debatable if I should even list it, but Joker’s family is revealed to be alive in this comic, with the implication that they need to be kept safe from him. Black Label. Not in continuity and I will die on this hill no matter what Justice League #50 and the stupid Mobius Chair say.
Eyyy, hope you found this really long list helpful! Thank you for the ask <3

you’ve heard of the best books of 2022, now get ready for my WORST books of 2022!!!
tamburlaine must die by louise welsh ⭐
“very interesting that francis walsingham plays an important role considering that he DIED THREE YEARS EARLIER OH MY GOD.”
murder in the crooked house by sōji shimada (tr. louise heal kawai) ⭐
“i can't even say that they're pieces on a chess board because at least those have defined purposes. the characters in this book are blank-slate checkers pieces trapped in the absolute stupidest game of mousetrap in the history of mankind.”
murder between the lines (kitty weekes #2) by radha vatsal ⭐.25
“i marked the plot v. character driving force question as n/a because there is simply no action in this "book" love and light “
singapore sapphire (harriet gordon mysteries #1) by a.m. stuart ⭐.5
“oh so this is like COLONIAL-colonial singapore. the only characters that matter are white and singaporeans are either shoved to the side or killed unceremoniously, present only as bodies rather than people. “
tidepool by nicole wilson ⭐.5
“the ending is drawn out for several chapters of exposition that nobody asked for, leaving TIDEPOOL as lifeless and bloated as the corpses that litter its beach. by the end, very little has changed, and even less has been said.”
the partly cloudy patriot by sarah vowell ⭐.75
“the older i get [..] the less tolerance i have for sarah vowell's tone-deaf-american-exceptionalism-neoliberal-schtick. i think that's all i have to say on that point because the political writing in this book speaks for itself.”
rooks & romanticide by j. i. radke ⭐.75
“exoticism is cool if you're writing mediocre white gay romance i guess. i'm so tired. i have a migraine from typing this up.”
a botanist’s guide to parties & poison (saffron everleigh mysteries #1) by kate khavari ⭐.75
“the romance couldn't be more forced if kate khavari inserted ff.net-style author's notes midway through the text to threaten the characters to act more in love so she doesn't kill them off”
murder in old bombay (captain jim & lady diana mysteries #1) by nev march ⭐.75
“[...] would be outpaced by a one-legged tortoise!”
a haunted history of invisible women: true stories of america’s ghosts by leanna renee hieber and andrea janes ⭐.75
when you posit the past (sorry, The Past™) as one endless stream of drudgery and violence and the present (sorry, The Present™) as a utopia for human rights correcting centuries of structural oppression, then not only do you flatten the experiences of marginalized people then, you also flatten the experiences of marginalized people now!

On May 22nd, 1970, BBC News reported that the Cricket Council, under pressure from Home Secretary Jim Callaghan, had cancelled a tour by the South African test team. The Wilson Labour Government, in its last days, was concerned about the effect on the Commonwealth Games to be held in Edinburgh in July, with Asian and African countries threatening to boycott.
In a note to Prime Minister Harold Wilson, Callaghan wrote;
"…Although some members of (the MCC) would die in the last ditch rather than call the tour off, there are almost certainly those whose only desire now is to get off the hook - especially if the Government can be made the scapegoat of cancellation…Our present object, therefore, is to intensify the pressures by all the unofficial means we can find in the hope that the nerve of the Cricket Council will crack..."
Anti-Apartheid activist Peter Hain (later a Cabinet Minister in the administrations of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown), now Baron Hain of Neath, was leading the ‘Stop the 70 Tour’ campaign, with plans to disrupt test matches. He praised the Labour government for their actions, stating, "I would hope the Conservative Party will come out in support of the Labour Party in these circumstances."
Tumblr media
South Africa's Minister of Sport, Frank Waring, was reportedly ‘furious’.
But before we get too misty eyed over the moral leadership of the Wilson Government, their hands were not entirely clean on this. Cabinet minutes released under the Thirty Year Rule revealed that Callaghan and Cabinet colleagues were concerned about 'radical elements' connected with 'extremist coloured organisations' in the protest movement, and discussed charging Peter Hain himself with conspiracy, despite the fact that he hadn’t actually done anything.
According to the minutes, It was suggested that if evidence came to light suggesting the Stop the 70 Tour organisation or other bodies opposed to the South African tour were concerting plans to interfere with cricket matches against the South Africans, this might lay them open to prosecution for conspiracy, even before such plans had actually been put into operation.
Hain also annoyed the government by demanding that the policing of any protests must be free of 'discriminatory methods'.
He later told the BBC;
“…We knew that we were under surveillance…Our phone was tapped and I think that we had people on our committee and in our meetings who were probably agents of one sort or another. What started off as a very small protest campaign ended up being a campaign that went right to the top of the British domestic political stage and also an international political matter that reached into the heart of the Commonwealth relations..."

A/N - That's clearly what I'd do. I'm a simple woman. Something scares me, I burn it to the ground. 🙆🏻‍♀️
Tumblr media
------- 1 New Message --------
Oswald CRIPPLEPOT
Y/N! Answer your phone! I need immediate assistance!
Y/N
For what?
Oswald CRIPPLEPOT
I think there's something in my mansion!
Y/N
Call Victor then, he's your hitman. I'm busy.
Oswald CRIPPLEPOT
NO! He wouldn't understand! THERE. IS. SOMETHING. IN. MY. MANSION.
Y/N
Why wouldn't he understand?
Vic is pretty binary when it comes to that: walk into the boss house -> die.
🤷🏻‍♀️
Oswald CRIPPLEPOT
I KNOW THAT STUPID WOMAN! But it's not a person who is breaking in! Well, not a consistent person at least.
Y/N
Oswald... How did Ed put this?
...
GHOSTS AREN'T REAL!
...
Take your pills and go to sleep.
Oswald CRIPPLEPOT
I KNOW WHAT I'VE SEEN Y/N
Y/N
Oh. And what did you saw? Your dad in a night robe, with a candle telling you nonsense again? Must be Ed in that case.
Oswald CRIPPLEPOT
Pretty low even from you harlot!
...
NO! I saw a white mist going through the walls, it's so cold my teeth are shaking and I have a feeling of oppression.
Y/N
Must be because of your paranoia dude.
...
What am I supposed to do then? Put my nicest priest robe, grab a cross and holy water and swing it in the air yelling "NOW GET OUT SPIRIT! THIS IS MY COMMAND!"
...
Stop watching films Oswald.
Oswald CRIPPLEPOT
Screw you woman! You'll probably burn if you touch a cross and holy water! Do you even know about a book called The Bible? Cause I'm pretty sure you're not following it. At all.
Y/N
Look who's talking. Dude I could even read ancient texts if I wanted since I fucking know Latin.
...
But it's not the subject and you're wasting my time.
Oswald CRIPPLEPOT
DON'T ABANDON ME NOW!
Y/N
Stob being a baby! If you're so afraid, go grab a bazooka or something and blow up the house, your ghost won't go through any wall after that.
Oswald CRIPPLEPOT
So that's your solution when you have a problem or are afraid of something?
Y/N
Yes. And it works pretty well. And no ghost ever dared to show its transparent face in front of me.
Oswald CRIPPLEPOT
That would be because you're the epitome of evil. Even Satan is too scared to recruit you.
Y/N
Dude. Go back to sleep, you're annoying.
Oswald CRIPPLEPOT
Not before my problem is solved woman!
Y/N
Ok. I'll send someone. He's a professional and will help you.
Oswald CRIPPLEPOT
THANKS, wasn't so difficult after all, uh?!
----------- End of message ----------
.
-------- 1 New Message --------
Y/N
Good evening Inspector, I'd like to fill out a complaint form.
Jim Gordon
Are you kidding me, Y/N?
Y/N
No, I really want to do it, the reason is to signal a disturbance of the peace of the night by a lunatic.
Jim Gordon
Is the law a joke to you? You are the lunatic! I should be the one to fill out a complaint form.
Y/N
No, it very useful at the moment. Please send an unit at Mister Cobblepot mansion. Poor dude is losing it and is ranting about a ghost haunting his house.
Jim Gordon
I refuse to take your complaint.
Y/N
Oh, I knew you would say that.
...
That's why I called the Commissioner before sending you a text. Poor thing was still so scared of Victor, that I just had to mention him to make him obey. He'll call you I think.
Jim Gordon
...
You're infuriating! How in hell did you knew about the legal procedures to follow when a cop rejected your complaint?
Y/N
Carmine wanted me to follow law classes while being under his command. Then I passed the bar examination with flying colors✌️. Got an incredibly beautiful degree to put on my fridge.
Jim Gordon
Your despicable.
Y/N
Have a nice spooky night with Oswald Ghostbblepot Jimbo 👻
