oooo i love me some unreliable narrator shit!!!!! mr. martin is the one who's been giving all the new ghosts the welcome speech, so everything they told maddie about them not being able to possess people or interact with the living is all bullshit

i thought it was really weird how mr. martin kept saying that specific phrase about ghosts not being able to interact with the land of the living, the way he worded it was strange and he always got weirdly angry about it, so I'm thinking he made everyone think that they can't do anything so no one would try to leave him

from what I've gathered from the short snippets wally and charley read in mr. martin's journals, it seems like he doesn't want any of the students to "cross over" i think he has been studying them so thoroughly to find out exactly what they need to cross over - so he can avoid it all costs

he doesn't want anyone dwelling on their living life and just wants to run his little fake school where he has all the power, he's no better than the other ghosts that think they're still alive, he's doing the same thing as the marching band kids and the theater girl, clinging to something he loved from life and doing that over and over and over again - he's acting as a teacher and running school events

so even though he constantly talks about trying to get everyone to cross over, really he's just making them a part of his teaching fantasy while he distracts them from their lives so they never resolve their unfinished business and stay with him in his fantasy. he started getting angry only when he lost control of the group and the ghosts started listening and hanging out with maddie more than him, he suddenly didn't have the same power over them that he used to

i definitely think there's something else to his motivations, i doubt it's just him wanting to play teacher for eternity, we have no idea why he started the fire and what his whole deal with janet is, why did they both lie for so long? was janet just too intimidated by an authority figure to tell the truth? how much can the ghosts actually interact with the living world? is there something special about the bunker because im pretty sure maddie saw mr. martin and janet when she was alive?? and mr. martin didnt seem surprised at all when he saw maddie there and immediately knew janet was going to possess her?? and what was mr. martin's big emotional speech about wanting to protect them??? from what???? so many questions!!! i love this show!!

me being neurotic about spoilers (this is a common theme)

obsessed with how this is my first instance of theorizing. the last two sentences are eerily accurate and i can't believe i said "alien planet" that's hilarious

this is good analysis too bad i was missing a key piece of information that makes my inadequate conclusion actually make sense

middle of Annihilation, first attempt at analyzing Where lies...this is actually pretty close to what I think about the tower text Now except missing the parts that would have never occurred to me without reading further (that the Crawler is Saul and that Area X is not on earth).

aw this is so cute. They don't even know about the first expedition footage with the sky leviathan POV (i have a pet theory that SR used that clip specifically to brainwash the husband. this is supported by his anecdote of falsely attributing memory to lived experience when its origin was television, as a young child)

Once i start saying phrases like "the virgin control and the chad ghost bird" and "the Caroline to his GlaDOS" and "everyone is a clone of a clone of a clone of a clone" that's when you know i've lost the thread

i love how i'm like "i could pass on more of lowry, i'm so sick of that guy" and then proceed to write four Thousand words of meta about him. i like the Theory of lowry. he's a horrible broken man who throws drinks at milves

and i love imagining that everyone who comes back from Area X is a clone no matter what not because that makes any sense but because i get to imagine two versions of every character. i'm like "i love the idea of Lowry being a clone all this time and somehow being protected from the fact by a quirk of his creation. And that he's imperfect compared to Original Lowry in odd ways but SR just chalked up his change to the intense trauma of the event, and if it ever seriously occurred to them they decided it didn't really matter. And if he knew. I don't know what he'd do And real Lowry is a megalodon in the ocean terrorizing plankton instead of lower-tier bureaucrats"

another thought: "I still love the thing that stitches across the sky. I think it's an avian cosmic leviathan, as the biologist is an amphibious cosmic leviathan. You could call it a dragon."

i ended up with a pretty secure Grand Unifying Theory that isn't interesting because you probably all have the same one. It's about the process

I like how Jonathan liked his letter of recommendation so much that he went and transcribed the praises in his journal to remember forever.

"THIS TALENTED BOY HERE JUST GREW INTO MANHOOD UNDER MY CARE. HE WILL NOT FAIL TO DO WHATEVER YOU PLEASE."

HONESTLY. It's adorable of him. Like... I know I wrote that post about Dracula's takeaways, which are all horrible obviously. And I can see how people would take it as a weird way to phrase things/very open to sounding creepy from the get-go. But honestly, I think it was supposed to be pretty sweet.

“I must regret that an attack of gout, from which malady I am a constant sufferer, forbids absolutely any travelling on my part for some time to come; but I am happy to say I can send a sufficient substitute, one in whom I have every possible confidence. He is a young man, full of energy and talent in his own way, and of a very faithful disposition. He is discreet and silent, and has grown into manhood in my service. He shall be ready to attend on you when you will during his stay, and shall take your instructions in all matters.”

The initial expectation was for Mr. Hawkins to be the one coming, and Jonathan had to sub in. It's unclear exactly how long ago, but he did at least have time to do a little research about the area (as well as being involved in inspecting/choosing the property Dracula was buying; some of that may also have originally been Mr. Hawkins' job before it got delegated as he became too sick). Dracula has probably known for a little bit that someone named Jonathan Harker was coming instead of Mr. Hawkins, though probably not much more about him. @animate-mush had a funny post about how the specific wording Mr. Hawkins used may well have been meant to address specific concerns/desires of his client in regards to the type of employee he wanted. But even in doing so, I think everything he says is meant specifically as a compliment - possibly even in premature defense of Jonathan.

Some complaints that could be made (in general, not even by Dracula specifically): he's too young and inexperienced (we mostly all headcanon babyface Jonathan for a reason I think, and he's confirmed to be new to this specific role). He seems kind of retiring and quiet (there are spoilery quotes that support him giving off this impression, so it may have even been something someone objected to in the past at work for all we know). Can he be trusted to not talk about my business? What if I think of some new questions or need help with other paperwork while he's here, will he have the knowledge/willingness to handle that?

All of the things Mr. Hawkins says are kinda bringing up then discarding these objections. He's bragging hard, saying, I'm sick but my replacement is plenty good enough, I trust him completely. Sure, he looks young and quiet, but he is actually full of energy, trust me, he's gonna get the job done. He's loyal, he totally understands client confidentiality, he's gonna work super hard and will be sure to make up for any inconvenience of not having me there, and he can help you with whatever else you need. I practically raised him so I have trained him thoroughly and know all this from experience, he's gonna do great.

And Jonathan is absolutely super chuffed to hear it! Sure, the letter of introduction is a Thing with perhaps some established rules/expectations of format, and of course Mr. Hawkins isn't going to insult his own replacement, but perhaps he isn't usually this effusive. I kind of get the impression that Jonathan at least tries really hard to be grown-up and professional with his boss, despite also looking up to him as a father figure. And so not only being given this chance but getting to see a letter that proves how seriously Mr. Hawkins is taking him and how much faith he has in him... he's really really happy about it. Especially considering that he is brand new to all this, only recently having got confirmation that he passed his exam and is no longer a clerk.

This might be the first time in his career that he has been important enough to merit so official an introduction. It's possible that every other time has been more along the lines of "this is my clerk, Mr. Harker. You can entrust the documents to his care," or whatever. Much shorter, simpler, Jonathan more as an attachment to a more important employee than anyone notable in his own right. But that's not the case anymore! He's a solicitor now! And Mr. Hawkins thinks he is talented! (Dad is proud of him!)

i'm curious about any commentary you have about this is a love story 👀

beside the like,literal hours i spent trying to code that fucking thing, i realized after the first article and maybe, three posts that i needed a plot. or at least, a resemblance of a plot. a sequence of events that would happen and that then had to be filtered through the social media lens and through the eyes of the characters. I had to build the reconciliation organically, i couldn't just write ten posts on them and call it a day because then it wouldn't have worked.

Luckily our community was of great aid in this, and a lot of the posts i put in it, like reblogs or quotes, were directly taken from my dash around the days i wrote that specific section of the story. Like, when we where having the collective leatherboys breakdown, i decided to put it in the story. or the motogpconfession one, i think i wrote it the day after adora unearthed those posts.

i had a piece of paper on which i wrote down all the events i wanted to happen and then i assigned a race/time period to it. I ended up sending vale to like, eight or nine races in the process but i think i was able to cut it down to seven in the fic. Also i refused to check any of the wec races because it could have ruined everything (and it would have, because i'm pretty sure he will race the same weekend as sepang). i was already going crazy reworking the instagram skin, the wec schedule was not going to be my problem.

one of the most difficult things to write was the rockstar au (that now i love very dearly) because. i didn't know what to write about. I knew i needed to put an au in the story, simply because our community is so profilic in writing them, but i had literally zero ideas. i swear to god, i went on an alternate universe generator site and cliked generate about a thousand times before i got this idea.

the non-text most difficult thing i did was enea's gifs because i used my phone and the app sucked majorly. 0/10 do not recommend that's the reason he's the only one i giffed and then simply reblogged repsol-ariel.

also, all the posts i took from tumblr, so reblogs and such, are actually from the blog with the username i wrote in the fic. in some cases their pfp is also the one of their blogs (this ended pretty soon tho because i was about to kill myself so i simply got random pictures on pinterest)

the easiest article to write was gogue's, even if it was the longest and more complex, because i'll be honest i'm really not made for dry sport journalism. I'm quite proud of it, actually. Describing him talking about Valentino was one of my favourite things, but also I loved the possibility to write glimps of his relationship with Alex.

also: i wrote vale's interview for skyITA after marc and bez's incident in italian and then translated it. i started writing it in english, but then i realized it wouldn't have worked, because i was thinking with the english sentence structure. So i thought: what could valentino say? and wrote it as if he was talking, pauses and not-ended sentences. then i took that and translated it the same way i do when i translate proper interviews or videos, changing the phrasing as little as possible. It was quite fun to do.

2024년 한국어 목표; Korean Language Goals

With my study abroad date coming closer and closer (only 19 days away ㅇ.ㅇ), I figured it was time to share some of my language/Korean specific goals for the year!

These aren't all of the things I want to "accomplish" for the year, and some are long-term while others are short-term goals, but it felt better to have something physical to look at to remind me of what I am aiming to do this year and have my thoughts organized.

The hardest thing about this is reminding myself (Hi, if you don't know me, I fear academic failure and set high expectations for myself), that it will be okay if I do these things only partially or if something didn't quite meet my expectations that it is okay.

There are some things that I want to aim for as a personal milestone that I didn't list here in an attempt to NOT overwhelm myself to get it done.

(Like trying to read Harry Potter in Korean, because 1. I am NOT at that level yet, and that will take quite the time to go through and 2. I want to buy the book second hand because JK Rowling is a bitch and I don't know yet where I could thrift the book while in Korea. Mostly want to read it because it is a book that I read over and over again as a child so the concepts/ideas/plot is familiar, just not the nuanced vocabulary and grammar)

So I am viewing this less so as a list of things to do before the year ends, and more as a set of remiders, affirmations, and sources for me to review throughout the year as I am abroad and expanding my use and knowledge of Korean.

There is so much to say about my goals and views of langauge learning, but I don't want to make this my longest post ever, so maybe some other day I will share some of my more abstract goals in another post.

Anyways, enough rambling, here's what is listed in my journal:

Annotate + break down THREE songs in Korean (*not in my journal, but the goal is to understand, memorize, and practice reading speed and listening with this)

Try learning AT LEAST 10 new words a week (*I see this one either not lasting long or turning more into 10 words every OTHER week lol)

Review each month what you've learned (*just trying to go back and refresh myself on things that I learned recently but may not have had the chance to put into practical use often)

Other notes:

Use your resoruces! I have so many Korean books and websites/apps saved, and I will use them for about a week before I forget they exist, so this is my reminder to look at them a little more often!

If you know how to say it, say it! Don't hesitate! The amount of times my friends and I have decided to speak in Korean to each other only to say something in English and then quickly realize we 100% know how to say that in AT LEAST broken Korean :/. Or when my professor would ask us to share what we did this weekend in Korean and think that my sentence or phrase is wrong, only for someone else to say something similar and realize I actually knew how to say it. Better to try and maybe be wrong and get corrected than to not try at all and learn nothing.

Keep it simple, but try to build your sentences! Actually a reminder from my Korean professor lol! If you don't know how to say it, look it up of course, but you can't pull out your phone in every conversation you have! Sometimes it is easier to keep it simple and short and others it's great to build on and connect where you can. The whole point of my last class was to work on using connectors and conjuctions for our sentences to lengthen them, but it's not always possible. Some days it is just easier to say 네 or 아 그래요 and move on if you know what I mean.

Any progress is good! There have been multiple times this year where I have literally gone to Korean tutoring and forgotten every Korean word I know and beat myself up over the fact that I feel like I "failed". Simply put, I burn out too quickly sometimes and take the minor victories for granted. Celebrate anytime you can when it comes to remembering a small vocab word or how to order food in Korean!

Consistency is Key! Seems obvious, but one summer in between semesters I didn't study Korean for at least a month and wanted to cry when I tried to self study again before the new semester because that sense of failure was kicking in and I couldn't remember a lot of what I had been practicing. Even if it is just reviewing vocab, watching a youtube video in Korean, or even a K-drama, consistency is key when it comes to learning. It doesn't have to be a lot, just something.

Explore ways to learn, make it fun for you! I have only been learning Korean for almost 2 years now, and now that I am going abroad I'm realizing that I will be in much more different situations in terms of school and socializing, so how I experience Korean is going to be different for a little while. This is just a reminder to take advantage of fun opportunities and see where and when you can learn Korean.

You're probably doing better than you think you are. Don't stress. I feel like nothing needs to be said here, but if you look at where you started versus where you are now I am sure the distance is actually farther than it seems.

Yes! I try to respond to every single comment! They took the time to give me a comment, why wouldn't I take the time to thank them for it?

6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

That's tough, because I always try to give hellcheer a happy ending - they deserve it! But Release My Inner Fantasy, despite being almost purely smut, definitely has the angstiest ending. (although it might be slightly cheating since it is part of an ongoing series, and I do intend to give them an eventual happy ending)

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Again, I love to write happy endings! So most of my fics are very happy at the close. But Hooked on a Feeling might be my most sappy-sweet ending. It's definitely one of my more lighthearted fics!

8. Do you get hate on fics?

honestly, no! the hellcheer fandom overall has been very kind to me. the closest I get to hate on fics is people wishing/asking me to do something different than I've already done (i.e. write an alternate ending because they didn't want A or B in it), which can be very discouraging. but I don't get that a lot!

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I do! However, I had never written actual smut in my life until this year, so I'm still pretty new at it

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Not really. The closest I've ever gotten to a crossover is crossover elements loosely integrated in a fic. Devil in the Woods, for example, uses bits and pieces from things like little red riding hood and beauty and the beast while remaining very much its own thing!

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of! And I'd very much like to keep it that way

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

i don't think so! but i'd be honored if somebody did

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I haven't, but I have a lovely friend who betas for me on occasion and we bounce ideas back and forth so much it sometimes feels like cowriting ( @slumped-in-the-arms-of-fiction )

15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I intend to finish every single wip I have going atm (As well as a few on the back burner lol). but sometimes it feels like i'm never going to finish them, especially when i'm on the very last chapters. why does it always work like that???

I feel like i'm pretty good at writing intimate scenes. and by that i mean scenes where not a lot's going on, where a small group of characters (usually two) can be together or have a conversation that doesn't do much for the plot but sheds a lot of light on the characters themselves (both to the readers and within the story between characters)

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I'm very undisciplined with writing habits, i don't write every day or have certain goals. i struggle to describe people and scenery in a concrete way that is integrative with the story itself.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

find a native speaker and get (and listen to) their feedback. whether it's tenses, phrases, or cultural tendencies, let someone who's actually the expert be the expert.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

hellcheer! unless you count me scribbling in my journal when i was about eight, writing a boxcar children story because i'd heard that they employed ghost writers and i thought "i could do that!" i wrote like half a dozen sentences, convinced i was going to become employed by the boxcar children publisher.

20. Favorite fic you've written?

honestly? probably Devil in the Woods. it's the one i go back to the most when i need a comfort read.

Finnish

I’ve decided to turn this into a “learning Finnish” journal. Just like my practicing chess, I guess. Hopefully this doesn’t burn out.

I read that if you study 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, it should take one year to learn Finnish.

I’ve been at it for a month already, though not at that speed. I’ve gotten through very simple phrases, some vocab, some verbs, and then a tiny introduction to noun cases, which English doesn’t have.

At first when I heard about noun cases I was like “huh, nouns change for the sentence? Well that’s interesting. I’ll try to adapt to including that.”

Now after a month, I had an epiphany.

You *need* those noun cases.

If you don’t have them, the language makes no sense. You can’t tell what is going on. You can’t make yourself understood.

Finnish has “noun verb noun” structure, but unless you’re using simple sentences and just saying “this is that,” it’s not going to get you far at all. You can’t tell what the sentence is actually saying without how the noun is written. Like you write “I want to go to France.” Okay, and do what? Go to France to visit? Go to France to live there? Go to France and stay there overnight in transport to somewhere else? Go to France and...what?”

You can’t tell from just the verb. The verbs are too vague. You can’t tell from word order. The word orders just seem to be what sounds “natural” with rules I’m still struggling to grasp. You can’t use articles, because there are no articles!!

Everything is figuring out from the context.

Everything relies on the casing of the nouns.

The plural doesn’t just change the noun, it also changes the adjective! Like if you say “that bunny is cute.” If you change it to plural, you don’t change the adjective. “Those bunnies are cute.” If it’s Finnish, you’d say “Those bunnies are cutes.” “Pupu on söpö.” “Puput on söpöt.”

No wonder this is a difficult language for an english speaker. I’m going into this with a (somewhat) good knowledge of Japanese, which is full of vague articles and having to know things based on context, but this is next level.

Oh, and there’s 15 of them.

Anyway, primarily using duolingo for this. At least at first. The local library has very little resources for learning finnish. An incomprehensible audio book which doesn’t even have subtitles, and a few phrase books which are for travelers which only teach specific phrases phonetically. But I’ll make do. I really want to learn it.

I love Finland.

Right now each post is going to be “Did I meet my 5 hour goal today?” And what did I learn. Since it’s duolingo, it’ll probably just be vocab and some sentence structure. The actual ‘rules’ seem to come from generous people who made comments on each sentence before duolingo locked them all. But that’s fine.

I can do this. It’s going to be hard. And I may actually never get to travel to Finland in my life... but I want to.

I hope you get better sleep! If you need some ideas I have a few!

Drink something! Surprisingly a glass of water in the morning and one at night helps not only to remember dreams but get better sleep! Water is the most preferred, but anything without caffeine should do! (Unless you’re like me with ADHD and that knocks me out)

Melatonin! Quickly google what foods, drinks, or even activities produce the most melatonin for the brain! Maybe try supplements?

Repetition! If you find a way that helped you fall asleep easily try repeating that again the next night to help you sleep! (But make sure it’s healthy!

Counting! It sounds silly but sometimes I count to 100 and in between I say phrases like ‘I will sleep’, ‘rest is easy’, etc. even though it sounds kinda cringe it has been my more success methods!

Info-dumping! If a lot is on your mind just get a journal and write what you want! Or even scribble making ‘your own language’ haha! Just using the notes app on your phone also works too! It doesn’t even have to have good spelling or be coherent, just dump and go!

Work out! I did little at home workouts that consist of using mostly just my body weight and even though they were on the lighter side, I still got tired enough to sleep!

Hobbies! Sometimes our brains just want to let loose and unwind a lil so do a couple lines of crossword! Write a paragraph for a fic! Color in some lines! Knit that blanket! Do whatever makes you happy and de-stressed!

Meditation! Now personally my brain as never been able to tolerate listening to the zen music and meditation, but if you try and see that it works, totally go for it!

Playlists! I have a playlist specified for when I’m tired or feeling not my usual energized self and if a playlist of different songs might help you sleep then I totally recommend it! Just prepare for some adds if you use YouTube or Spotify to make playlists…

Reading! Specifically old literature! I have a collection of Edgar Allen Poe short stories and poems and I fall asleep pretty quickly—not because it’s boring, but because the language is more old and the passing of the stories are different and it uses up all the remaining energy in my brain! If you want any recs, I suggest either that, or Carmilla, maybe even Anne of Green Gables or Howls Moving Castle if you want something more modern!

cabbagejournalss - this was a class assignment to make a comic where the dialogue changes the reader's perception of the story. i decided to put professor pollinator in a dangerous situation in which he does not acknowledge the threat to his life. is he stupid?

i really enjoy using black and white in comics. i had the chance to speak with an industry professional recently about my work and he recommended using more values to distinguish space since i'd only used two grays in the work i shared with him, so i pushed it here and i'm pretty jazzed about the result. i want to get better at working with color but i really like how grayscale looks too, not to mention it's a timesaver.

i probably made this backwards, i drew the comic and sort of wrote the dialogue around the action with the scant ideas i had going in. i usually like making stuff up on the fly like that, but i struggled making it sound natural and not awkwardly shoving words in to fill the space, which was compounded by his thick southern drawl and trying to come up with just the right phrase or pronunciation he would use (this probably could have stood a quick google).

this was received well during crit, which i was surprised about because i was sure i did the assignment wrong. it was agreed that the part between panels 3 and 4 where he awakens the plant monster needed to be clearer; my professor pointed out that it's hard to see that he's still holding the flower so i should have made it stand out more, maybe by keeping it white, which i had considered while working on it and then just. didn't

i gotta draw professor pollinator more often, he's so much fun! i made him a few years ago when i wanted to make characters themed to specific scientific fields and he's very dear to me. i wanted him to look like a plant so he's round and bulb-shaped with short wavy hair like sprouting leaves (bulbs for reference below). i struggled a bit with placing and sizing his finn from adventure time teeth so they're a little inconsistent but maybe i could work that into part of his charm.

Candy Color Paradox episode 4

Having vented my complaints, and after some helpful conversations about the show, I was better able to enjoy this episode for the fluff that the show is rather than being frustrated about what it is not. I mean, I still think that it's missing a lot of opportunities to explore some interesting themes around ethics, celebrity journalism, Kaburagi's cool boy pose and the way he uses sex for his job, Onoe's... not innocence, but whatever it is that makes him a blushing maiden uke, and everyone's feelings about sex in general. But I accept that's not what the show wants to do. It is straight up yaoi archetypes and a silly plot to smash them together. ("Now kiss.") The glancing look at deeper questions is probably accidental.

That being said, here is what I thought while watching this episode:

- lol it looks like they heard my complaining about how bad they were at stalking people because the literal first conversation in this episode is about how they're too obvious in a parked car 😂

- ooh la la, and they're in a love hotel 😳🤭😉 How risqué. Poor little blushing uke. 🥺

- Aw poor Onoe. He was all ready to fuck then and there. (Or maybe just kiss? I'm not sure how he interpreted the phrase that Gaga translated as "let's do it.")

- It seems odd to me that a paparazzi photographer is also the one taking official portraits. Is that a real thing (in general or in Japan specifically) or just a contrivance for the plot here. Not important, just curious.

- More extremely jealous Onoe 😂 To be fair, I too would be jealous under the very confusing circumstances he's in.

- I hope we get Kaburagi photographing Onoe. Bonus points if Onoe doesn't notice him doing it. I love that trope and what's the point of having a photographer character if you don't use it.

- Haruta is blatantly flirting lol. I suspect that Kaburagi is trying to see if he can catch Inami in jealousy with this hair fixing maneuver, but he's caught Onoe in his net instead. 😂

- But are these actors dating/in love? Is the father/little sister thing a ruse or their genuine feelings? Now I want to know, not because I care about these imaginary celebrities, but because I feel like the answer will say something about the show's perspective on paparazzi ethics.

- Is Onoe putting the pieces together about Kaburagi's purpose? And does Inami's expression while on his phone indicate jealousy or disinterest? I honestly can't tell the answer to either of those.

- Innocent Onoe is literally eating vanilla yogurt while bad boy Kaburagi is smoking.😂

- Go Onoe! Bravely asking Kaburagi what he meant be "I like you." I'm so proud.

- On the one hand, I'm annoyed at Kaburagi for acting so aloof and not taking Onoe's understandable frustration seriously. On the other hand, "smutty alien" is adorably hilarious and I can't blame him for laughing fondly at it. I do wonder if it's a literal translation, or an actual phrase in Japanese, or if it's as random and absurd as it sounds in English.

- Onoe is so obvious when he tails people 🤣

- Inami is pulling an Issei and killing the paparazzi stalker with kindness. I love it. Perhaps that is just how celebrities in Japan deal with paps? I don't know.

- Inami is cute though. And very young looking for supposedly 40. Though the actor is 36, so not that far off.

- Oh the meta levels of young new actors trying to shake off their idol images. I have no idea if Kimura Keito and Yamanaka Jyutaro are actually trying to shake off their idol images, but it does feel a bit ironic or something.

- Onoe. Where is your journalist's skepticism. Are you always this credulous or is it because your brain has been turned to mush by your crush?

- I see Kaburagi wonders the same thing. Perhaps we're both being unfair to Onoe and he just has good instincts.

- Kaburagi noticed Onoe's yogurt and brought him the same kind! Cracks in the facade! Feelings creeping back in. And brave Onoe immediately goes to ask him...

- and... a mid-sentence cliffhanger.

- Looks like next week it'll be Kaburagi's turn to be jealous. And we get more Inami. Being flirty even. Hooray for me!

There probably are things I could say about their developing relationship, the slow melting of Kaburagi's numbness and cynicism, and Onoe's (honestly wise) anxiety about falling for this confusing ice prince (or tsundere seme, to use yaoi vocabulary), but I frankly don't care enough about the characters or this relatively shallow take on this conventional romance arc to think much about it. Still, now that I'm thinking of them as cartoons come to life I'm enjoying them a lot more.

I now see how entirely dramatic this phrase is(tysm prozac). I probably need to watch my provocative language, I’ve never In my life been a chill or fun girlfriend.

If “emotional terrorist” is a fitting title for any of these people honestly who could blame them, i’m basically an emotional fascist. After my regime is overthrown I have to rebrand obviously.

Teenager’s (and me), are calling this “having an era” . A little google action reminded me this all started with the “Flop Era”

Rebranding isn’t a new thing at all but hyper specific digital language used to describe how you express yourself obviously is and this is a tired conversation at this point.

How is “I’m in my looksmaxxed bushwick kinderwhore era” a thing you could say and how did I get to a point in my life where i know exactly what that would mean. It’s internet buzzword salad and it feels like it’s too much information for my brain to be storing and holding onto at all times (is this where my ancestors kept the berry forageing knowledge? is this really what i’m using it for??)

When you feel it’s time for your new era you could sift through pinterest rabbit holes and tiktok echochambers trying to find the perfect niche that describes the new and improved you. You’ll probably find a corner of the internet with other people just like you who like all the same esoteric celebrities you do, who listen to the same underground bands and who all talk the same cool way. But they are all doing it a little better than you.

Then you wake up from the digital coma you slipped into from stemming from unsupervised internet access at a young age, and you realize this is the dumbest shit in the world and ur actually and literally a full ass adult..

🎀Here is my personal plan of action for a non internet poisoned rebrand:🎀

Step 1- The Transformational Event

This could be a breakup, a breakdown, a move, or just a general realization that challenges all ideas you previously had about yourself.

Step 1.5- Deep Emotional Pain

Step 2- Get Ur Ass up

Envision the you that has moved on and no longer feels held down by the emotional weight of the situation. How do they spend their free time? What passions are they pursuing ? what kind of people do they surround themselves with? lastly how do they dress how would they adorn their space? Work from the inside out.

Instead of looking up glass skin healed french girl aesthetic on pinterest you could journal about this version of you or even make a physical vision board.

Step 3- Faking it

Initially you might feel like you are not mentally stable or cool enough or whatever to be this person. But the person is you and the only way you can become them is to just start.

Step 4- God and Faeries take over

Spoiler alert: what i referred to as “faking it” in the last step is also called vibrating at a higher frequency. As I type this out I’m aware that i only maybe half believe it but also this has always worked for me my whole life so……

The circumstances in your life will basically rise to meet you where you are. you’ll start to realize you have the types of friends the new version of you would, you’ll develop the habits you wanted to and you’ll realize you have faked it till you made it.

Step 5- You are sexier and doing better than you ever imagined!

As time goes by and you think back to yourself immediately after the initial transformational event you’ll realize you have become even cooler and happier and more grown up than you hoped you’d be

If u did this right you’ll also feel a little bit of gratitude for the transformational experience because it basically provided a short cut for ur prefrontal cortex development.

Marauder Characters Studying and Reading habits

Lily Evans - dog ears her book pages. she never uses a book mark as an actual bookmark (mostly because she looses them constantly or they fall out). it’s always a random item like a spare piece of parchment, a sticky note, a receipt, old homework notes, a gum wrapper, and a bobby pin at one point. she can and will use anything really. she also has random spurts of reading. she will go from three months to a year without touching a book outside of classwork and then devour anywhere from six upwards to ten novels consecutively in the span of a week without pause.

Regulus Black - annotates his books with a fountain pen, especially his novels. sometimes it’s just scattered commentary throughout, other times it’s underlined phrases. he also uses little coloured tabs to mark certain pages or parts that resonate with him (though never the orange coloured ones!) is always reading something (whether a novel for enjoyment or a textbook for class) though he often takes his time when doing so, he reads before going to sleep at least a chapter (though often this causes him to stay up and finish said book rather than sleeping but he’s working on it). likewise, he is never able to stay strictly to one book and often has five or six on the go all of them at varying locations so he always has one handy when his peers become boring with small talk or he just needs to escape for a little while.

Remus Lupin - ruthlessly cracks the spines of his books, likewise he folds them over when he’s reading. he refuses to buy hardcovers and is strictly into paper backs. somehow Sirius always manages to spill some sort of juice or melted sweets on the pages or covers. Madam Pince refuses to let him to borrow any books outside of the library because of it. he reads at a super speed like pace but has terrible retention to what he just read. he’ll remember that he enjoyed it or he hated it, though he would be screwed if you asked him about any plot points or anything that happened within it specifically. he struggles with very large fonts and staying invested into the reading. likewise he is a sucker for when the author includes a map at the beginning and has to show it to anyone he comes across becuase ‘look at this cool map! i love maps!’

Severus Snape - reading for enjoyment includes history texts, and medical/apothecary/potions journals. he subscribes to at least three muggle medical journalists and critics back home and reads them over the summers as he can’t during the school year. he enjoys ruthlessly marking up the margins of any and all books with his own substitutes and ideas on how to better it, alongside where they went wrong, or what he thinks should be tried instead. his hand writing is nearly illegible (very slanted and squished looking). lily got him addicted to black pens when annotating (it got worse when he found out there were red pens too!) he is a very avid reader but refuses to have more than one on the go at the same time which makes handling his classwork rather tricky at times and one of the reasons he marks up and goes through most of his textbooks before the school year starts so he has more time in the library at school to peruse what he wishes to.

Pandora Ollivander - that annoying person who remembers what page they were on when reading and doesn’t need a bookmark or such to hold their place, ever. she only buys hard copies, and refuses to mark it up in any way, shape or form as she finds it distracting to the information. on the other hand, her homework is filled out in shimmery and/or glittered fountain pens. she often charms her textbooks with her wand to highlight certain specifics she finds worth memorizing but charms then back to normal after exams before donating them. she reads sparingly more so when she feels the need to and not in some inexplainable drive to. she has an entire bookshelf at home filled with books she has yet to read but has no desire to start yet because she doesn’t know if it’s the right ‘time’ yet.

Yeah, there's a good few that are already apparent, haha. But still lots room to imagine! Let's see, since you specified Harkers I will answer this one for both of them as regards the other...

What seemingly meaningless action of theirs is most beloved by someone close to them? Do they know how much they love it?

Jonathan: I was tempted to say the way he specifically takes note of things like the train schedule and stuff when writing to her, but I think that's more deliberate/has intentional meaning. So instead, let's go for something he doesn't even think about doing at all, it just comes naturally to him (not that engaging in things Mina loves doesn't but you take my meaning) - the way he stops to feed animals. He hasn't ever kept a pet, and he doesn't have any sort of schedule to it at all, but if he sees a cats-meat vendor he will always stop and get something to give to a stray. If he's eating outside and a dog or cat or even wild bird passes by most of the time he will just pinch off a tiny piece of whatever he's got and toss it to them. He doesn't really even notice doing this, but Mina adores him for this instinctive little kindness to animals. She has told him, but not quite explained it fully and he mostly thought it was just about her loving animals. Which she does, but that's not the main reason why it makes her feel so incredibly fond of him.

Mina: The way she picks up terms from her latest interest and looks for chances to use them. He loves that she is so interested in learning, and always has something new to tell him about science or history or journalism or even things from his own law-books... But within that larger quality, he absolutely adores the way she seeks out little opportunities to share her knowledge. She definitely caters to her audience, and quiets down around people she doesn't know as well, etc. But when she's comfortable she likes to practice and apply what she's learned. Sometimes it even verges a bit on showing off, though that is definitely more confined to her closest friends/most relaxed moments... but generally it's just that she has learned some specific term or detail and gets excited to use/share it when it could be applicable. She knows he loves it when she tells him about her interests because of how he reacts (and because he's reassured her that he wants to hear when she feels embarrassed of talking too much). What she doesn't know is the intense little rush of love and smile he tries to keep from being too wide whenever she gets that certain look in her eye before mentioning some kind of jargon or using a specific phrase for something. (He doesn't want her to get self-conscious about it.)
